Joy Taylor is joining me on a Tuesday.
Good morning, Colin.
Patrick Mahomes with the Chief stops by today.
Great to see you, Joy.
I'm getting fired.
I got college football less than a week away.
You know I love college football.
Joel Clatt next hour.
So I want to start with O'Dell Beckham.
O'Dell Beckham signed a massive contract during the last hour of our show yesterday,
and we talked about this contract.
You know, I always think wide receivers are a little overpaid, sometimes a lot overpaid.
But here's the story.
So Eli Manning had gone into the tank the last four years.
And here's what the Giants did in the offseason to save Eli Manning.
They stole Tom Brady's left tackle.
They drafted with a number two pitch.
in a running back rich draft,
Sequin Barclay.
They re-sign Odell Beckham,
draft another offensive lineman in the second round,
and then hire one of these great offensive gurus, Pat Schumer.
Gift, gift, gift, gift.
God, I thought Eli was 2-0 against Tom Brady.
He's 3-0 against Tom Brady.
This isn't a Super Bowl.
It's the 2018 off-season.
So it's very interesting.
I'm sitting there thinking this morning.
Jared Goff, just a kid.
already has Todd Gurley,
already has a really good receiving
core, and they went out and spent
$80 million to get him another toy
Brandon Cook. Patrick
Mahomes has Kareem Hunt,
Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelsey.
They went out and got him
another toy.
Sammy Watkins. Matt Ryan
already has a loaded
backfield. Julio Jones.
They went out and drafted in the first round
a wide receiver from Alabama.
Cam Newton last couple of years.
gets an explosive dynamic running back.
Christian McCaffrey gets DJ Moore, first round wide receiver.
Derek Carr already had a Mari Cooper.
They get him.
Jordie Nelson, gift, gift, gift, gift, gift, gift.
And Tom Brady, at his practices, name tags.
He doesn't know the name of his receivers.
Tom Brady for 15 years now has been the best player in the league.
He is the only star quarterback in this league who takes pay cuts,
every single contract.
And he looks around and goes, waitress, waitress, everybody's coffee cups getting filled up.
A little over here, please.
Folks, if you were the best person in the world at what you did and you were willing to
take pay cuts to benefit your company, wouldn't you want to see the reward for it?
Don't tell me the Super Bowl is the reward.
Tom's the one getting you there.
He's the one carrying that receiving core there.
He's the one carrying those Rex Burke heads there.
He's the one carrying that defense that couldn't stop a cold there.
He's looking around the league.
New England's never drafted a wide receiver once in the first round.
He's taking pay cuts.
The Niners drafting receivers for Garoppolo and Gop and Mahomes and Eric Carr.
Even Aaron Rogers got Jimmy Graham.
So you'll wonder when Tom Brady hangs up on a radio station.
You'll wonder why he walked out of a press conference four weeks ago in New England at camp.
You'll wonder why he punted a football a couple of weeks ago at practice.
He was notably visibly angry.
You'll wonder why they don't play Malcolm Butler and don't give him a head up.
When he did this on a radio show a couple days ago, did you hear this?
Maybe there's a reason for it.
We saw the reports this weekend that Alex was on the TV.
playing, which he wasn't for the second half of last year, I guess, not on the sideline.
Is that accurate?
Yeah, he was with me this last week, so it was, yeah.
What changed him not being on the team playing last year and this year?
You know, I don't want to, I'm not getting into all that.
Okay.
When I ran in him at the Super Bowl last year, Minneapolis, and I talked to him there,
he had said in his opinion that all this stuff had been overblown that he and Belichick
actually had a pretty good relationship, but even then.
Would you say that was true?
I said I don't want to get into it.
Okay.
Go ahead, Evan.
Yeah. I mean, everyone knows it's well documented how, you know, the work that he and I do together.
No, I know. I know. Yeah, no, yeah, no, I understand that. I'm just trying to figure out because I saw the reports this weekend that he's traveling with the team. Was he on the sideline on Friday?
Yeah. All right, guys. Have a great day. I'll talk to you later.
I mean, they kept pressing. They kept pressing. They kept pressing. He answered the question. Then he revisited it.
And everybody today's like, oh, the theatrics for Tom Brady.
folks, are you driving to work or watching this show right now?
Do you feel like you're a really good employee?
Have you taken a pay cut?
Well, when you take a pay cut and you're carrying franchises year after year
and you're watching Jared Gop and Derek Carr
and you're watching Minnesota pay Stefan Diggs a fortune,
rush to pay him 40 million guaranteed,
and you won't pay Danny Amandola a buck 50.
you wonder why Brady's pissed.
Come on now.
Eli Manning has gone into the dumpster in four years,
and they reward him with a left tackle.
They draft a guard.
They get him a running back.
They get him a great coach.
They get him Odell Beckham, Jr. for the next four years.
New England wouldn't pay to keep Danny Amandola,
Brandon Cooks, Dionne Lewis, Nate Solder.
And you can't figure out quite why Tom's a little.
upset. And this just didn't about Brady. This is about anybody in America, man, woman, or
teenager. If you are carrying an organization, never forget, Belichick was fired before Brady and was
5 and 11 in New England before Brady. And you're carrying this puppy for 15 years. Don't tell me
his wife's a supermodel he can afford a pay cut. It's about respect. It's about respect.
You know, Aaron Rogers said
R-E-L-A-X. How about R-E-S-P-E-C-T?
I'm taking pay cuts here.
Everybody's getting a refill in their coffee.
Tom's like, hello, waitress, over here.
No, nope, sorry. Danny Amandola.
We can't afford a nickel to keep him.
And Minnesota's given Kirk Cousin, Stefan Diggs.
They've already got a star back, a star-tied-end, a star defense.
Yeah, Brady's ticked off.
Do you blame him?
all the headlines.
Oh, the theatrics.
Oh, the...
His coach won't give him a heads up in a Super Bowl.
They won't add anything.
They won't draft a wide receiver.
By the way, Big Ben in the last...
My staff gave me this this morning.
This is an interesting staff.
Big Ben...
I mean, by the way,
have you noticed what Atlanta...
Matt Ryan, Big Ben,
Juju Smith-Schuster,
Breeze, they're drafting running,
backs Alvin Kamara, wide receivers.
These teams just keep spending
top picks year after
year on receivers and backs
and left tackles and
good God.
I mean, it's just unbelievable.
Look at the weapons
added this year to the star quarterback.
This is for my television audience.
On top of the weapons they have
and they won't pay Danny Alendola.
I'm going to make an argument right now
is that because Julian Edelman's
not playing in September, in September,
without Edelman.
New England's got the worst wide receiving core in the league.
You keep talking about the Cowboys.
Alan Hearns would be their best player right now on the perimeter.
You got to be kidding me.
They die for Cole Beasley in September.
So congratulations.
Eli Manning is now 3-0 against Tom,
2-0 in Super Bowls and 1-0 in the 2018 off-season.
He gets Pat Schumer, Nate Solder for the next four years,
Juan Barkley for the next four years.
Good Lord.
It's amazing.
He has every right to hang up on people.
Let me ship to this.
A lot of times, it's not your fault.
But it's your reality.
You're a young kid.
There's chaos in your home.
It's not your fault.
You inherited your parents.
But it is your reality.
So suck it up.
and deal with it.
I saw this story yesterday where Hugh Jackson had to tell one of his
coordinators, stop calling our players stupid.
Greg Williams came out.
When Denzel Ward the cornerback, young cornerback for the Browns got hurt,
Greg Williams called him out and said, he's just stupid.
He didn't know how to tackle doing stupid stuff.
I wish you would listen.
Hugh Jackson came out and said,
I'd prefer that Greg Williams didn't call our players stupid.
So I've always said it takes a really special person, Superman, to overcome dysfunction.
Baker Mayfield is good enough to start in the NFL and is good enough to win games in the NFL.
But he's not Cam Newton.
He's not Andrew Luck.
He's not Carson Wentz.
He's not John Elway.
That's what number one, number two picks are.
He's not going to be able to overcome complete dysfunction.
Just think of what has happened and what he inherited.
Again, I'm not blaming Baker, but this is his reality.
He inherited Hard Knocks.
He didn't have a choice.
He inherited a coach on the hot seat.
Owen 16 didn't have a choice.
He inherited Greg Williams, a coach who calls players stupid.
He inherited an inpatient owner, Jimmy Haslam.
They also now lead to get Des Bryant.
He inherits a team that now has most.
Disfunctional wide receivers.
Listen, John Elway and Eli Manning, four Super Bowls between them,
refused to go to NFL teams out of college.
They said, I'm not, John Elway is like, I'm not going to Indy.
And Eli Manning's like, I'm not going to San Diego.
Their dad stepped in.
Their football dad said, we're not doing that.
We're not going there because they know how hard it is to reboot your career.
I've never said Baker's not talented enough to start and win games in this league.
Check, check, check, he'll do both.
But is he talented enough to overcome a coaching staff, which feels like a 1978 relic
where the offensive line coach makes fun of people who stretch
and where the defensive coordinator, Greg Williams, is calling players stupid publicly,
chastised by his coach.
Now they're the leading candidate on Des Bryant.
Oh, brother.
I've said this.
When you enter, it's not your fault, it's your reality.
Carson Wentz walks into Philadelphia when they had a little dysfunction, Chip Kelly.
Their roster was being a little rebuilt.
Carson Wentz is Iron Man.
And Cam Newton goes to Carolina, and he's Superman.
and then Andrew Luck goes to dysfunctional Indianapolis, impulsive owner,
doesn't have the right coach, GM, he's Batman.
But Baker Mayfield, if he's a superhero, has always been Aquaman.
I mean, you know, he's a superhero.
But if there was a bank robbery on shore, he couldn't do anything
because you get him out of water and he's just me.
Nothing wrong with Aquaman.
But Aquaman couldn't do anything on land,
which I don't know, that seems like a slight.
imperfection as a superhero?
Superman could go in water,
Superman could fly, Superman could lift buildings.
Aquaman's like, hey, hey, there's a bank robbery over here.
Sorry, is it in the water?
No.
Is there a puddle nearby?
No.
I'm just out here on my...
Yeah, yeah.
If anybody's got a boat that's sinking, I can certainly help.
If you're on a rock out in an island, I can certainly help you then.
but if you're on the land thing, I mean, Greg Williams calling players stupid.
It's 2018, it's not 1978, an offensive line coach that made World War II references
and said, you know, nobody really needs stretching.
That's a lot to overcome, man.
You got to be Superman.
This is his offensive line coach in Cleveland.
Listen.
World War I, World War II.
All those guys that are four.
that war, right? They did push-ups, jumping jacks, sit-ups to climb the open ran. But none of this
fancy. Okay? Right? And they won two world wars. Two world wars by doing jumping jacks,
push-ups and sit-ups. Two world wars. You think they were worried when they're running across
Normandy about stretching? Are you kidding me?
Huh? Well, let me see. Give me my rubber band so I can stretch to run across that. You've got to be
kidding me. I bet he doesn't like things on his lawn.
Wens can overcome that. Andrew Luck did overcome that. You think him and Alex Guerrero would get along?
I mean, Hard Knocks for the record is on again tonight. You can watch what Baker Mayfield,
who I never thought should be a number one pick. You can watch tonight on Hard Knocks, HBO,
what he has to overcome. Wow. Call him Player Stupid, 2018, for an injury. I mean, wow. The place I used to
has become pretty much a basketball network.
How do I know that?
Another list by them that is embarrassing by their football experts.
I mean, honestly, I think now they're just trolling people.
The worst list yet.
Wow.
Coming up next.
Like there's certain things in life that you either have to embrace or I give up trying.
Like I always tell my kids all the time.
If you don't care about something that I don't care about it,
If you don't want to go to volleyball practice, then why am I putting any effort in?
You've got to show me you care about something.
And there's also things in life that if you don't get how important they are,
I'm not going to try to convince you how important they are.
Like technology.
Like you either get technology is going to put 30% of Canada out of work within a decade
and 20% of America because of automation.
You better figure that out or you're going to have issues if you work in an industry
where you can be replaced by a robot because it's coming and it's coming.
coming fast.
Like there's certain things you just have to be aware of.
And in sports, there's several of these.
But here's the one where I just, like you either get Andrew Luxor Good or you don't.
I can't help you.
So ESPN, a place I used to work, has become more of a basketball network.
And increasingly, it shows in their coverage.
They put out a list yesterday from their football experts of the top 100 players projected for this year.
First of all, it didn't even make sense.
They said, we don't want you to consider previous seasons.
Well, then why would you have Aaron Rogers number one?
Why would you have Tom Brady, too, if I didn't include previous seasons?
Tom's just a 41-year-old man with a hot wife.
What does that mean?
Of course you consider what they've done.
That's why I think JJ Watt will be good because he's been good, even though he was injured.
So Andrew Luck doesn't make the list of the top 100.
The quarterbacks who made it are Rogers, Brady, Breeze, Wensch, Rosslessberger, Wilson, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford,
Philip Rivers, Jimmy G, Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins, Deshawn Watson, Alex Smith, excuse me, Alex Smith?
What general manager?
But Colin Andrew Luck's coming off an injury.
JJ Watts on the list, so is he.
Deshawn Watson's on the list, so is he.
You're going to tell me if you were a general manager in the NFL
and you could this morning have Andrew Luck or Alex Smith.
And I like Alex Smith.
You choose him?
Alex Smith has had great coaches offensively, Jim Harbaugh, Andy Reed, and in 13 years,
has thrown for over 20 touchdowns three times.
Andrew Luck's never had an elite offensive head coach.
In five seasons, he's done it four times with awful offensive lines.
In Andrew Luck's last healthy year, this is the last year he was totally healthy.
His numbers were remarkable.
40 TD 16 picks, 300 yards a game, 62% completion percentage,
passer rating at nearly 97.
In the last year, he played a bunch of games, but was not healthy,
his numbers were still B plus in the NFL.
2016, now he was not healthy.
It's been confirmed now.
He even admits, and he's a humble kid, I played through pain the whole time.
63.5 completion percentage, 290 yards a game, 280,
31 TDs, 13 picks, 96.5 passer rating.
wasn't even healthy.
You would literally take a defensive lineman off an injury, JJ Watt, over him, and Alex Smith.
Alex Smith, I'm going to say something and you're not going to believe it's true.
And I like Alex Smith.
Alex Smith had a year recently where he did not throw a touchdown pass to a receiver.
That same year, Andrew Luck had 40 touchdown passes.
Remember that year for Kansas City?
They didn't have very good receivers.
He didn't throw a touchdown pass to a wide receiver.
It may have been like week 15 or week 16.
It was like really late in the season.
It was like December.
I mean, come on now.
It was the entire season, John?
It was the entire season.
Oh, my bad.
I gave Alex Smith some love he didn't deserve.
Now, come on, folks.
You're a general manager in this league.
Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, and Andrew Luck are available.
You don't choose Andrew Luck.
Yes, here it is right here.
2014, Alex Smith had a year he didn't throw a touchdown pass to a wide receiver.
For the record, you may not love Andrew Luck like I do.
I get it.
But can you least acknowledge now?
He is the least appreciated great player in the league.
He doesn't make the top 100 list.
Deshawn Watson, off an injury, has been good for a four-game, six-game stretch does.
Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, and I like Alex,
but there's not a general manager in the world
that would choose Alex Smith over Andrew Luck if they were both available.
Good hell.
I mean, you got to try if you're a network doing football lists.
You got to do better than that.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This.
is the herd line news.
So Alex Carrower's relationship with Tom Brady and the Patriots became the story of the year last
year and it is continuing to this year.
And unsurprisingly, Bill Belichick was the next to be quizzed about it during his weekly
radio hits.
Yeah, no, he's not a member of the organization.
He works at TV12.
I think we're all aware of that.
We have people in our traveling party.
Some are in the organization.
Most are.
And some aren't.
We have people in various capacities that work with us.
on game day.
And again,
it's,
I mean,
every team has that,
you know,
so we have that too.
You need some extra people on game day
in the video department.
As you mentioned,
other,
there could be,
especially people in medical staff,
security and so forth.
So,
you know,
we have other people that are not,
some are full time,
some are,
let's again call it
game day type employees
because of just a higher demand
in certain areas on game day.
So.
Pretty good answer by
Belich standards.
It is.
It is.
It is.
But the whole time I'm just imagining, like, could you imagine someone asking LeBron, like how you mentioned yesterday?
So, you know, do you think it's okay if that Maverick Carter and Rich Paul are just with you all the time?
If someone asked that question, the entire room would be like, what?
What are you talking about?
Yeah.
I don't understand.
Why would that be a problem?
What's the question?
It is amazing how this Alex Guerrero thing, he is a career extending.
trainer.
He is there.
This is not a back rub, like at the four seasons or a nice hotel.
He is extending Tom's career and players around the league.
T.J. Hushmanzado was on our show, Jo joins like, oh, no, I've used him.
He's remarkable.
And Tom's getting nothing but crap for this.
It is amazing.
It shows you the football culture in America, which is don't give the players anything,
no guarantee.
And I love the NFL, but God, in the NBA, a marginal player can travel with a group of dudes.
It's no big deal.
I get that there's a lot more players in the NFL, so you can't accommodate everyone.
But guess what?
Life isn't fair.
Everybody doesn't get the same treatment.
Tom Brady gets his own guy.
That's okay.
And I think with this, last year, I was a little more on the Patriots side because I understand
you're trying to keep balance within the organization and you don't want to sell your
training staff out and you don't want everybody wanting to go get a second opinion.
You have to keep some sort of control.
Right.
Fine.
But this is Tom Brady's guy.
Address the team.
Let the team know that we have trainers.
These are the ones you're supposed to use.
And this is Tom Brady's guy.
That's not how this works.
It's very simple.
Yeah, it is.
But I do think it shows really,
we just have our two most popular sports in America are the NBA and the NFL,
and they are really, it's different.
One is very pro player and one is very, I wouldn't say anti-player,
but one is more controlling of players.
And so when a player, even as Tom Brady's has,
as he is, when he brings
just a trainer on.
We're freaking out. But listen,
everything that you just said at the beginning of the segment.
You got to get with the times, man.
Times they're changing. Yeah.
Players have their own brands now. They have their own guys.
They're their celebrity. They make money off
the field and off the court
easier than they make it
working in the NFL. They have
huge contracts with huge sponsors.
Now that they don't need football, but this is not
the same thing. People have their own
brands. You got to let them have a little, like
So Hugh Jackson was asked Monday about some especially harsh comments from Greg Williams made about Denzel Ward's injury in a preseason game. Jackson didn't seem too happy about Williams blaming the injury on Ward's stupid tackling. Take listen. No, it's not whatever Greg. Greg doesn't get to do just what he wants to do. I mean, we'll work through all of that. But our players got it, there's a certain way. We do want them to tackle because of size, structure and all that. We don't want a guy to get hurt or anything like that. I mean, I'm sure Greg does advise. But
We don't need to do all that stuff in the media.
By the way, it should be noted.
They took Denzel Ward, and it was not the right player to take.
And the knock on Denzel Ward was he was small.
Bradley Chubb, the best pass rusher in a college draft, many are saying in years was available.
So not only did they take Baker over Sam Darnold, they took a tiny corner over Bradley Chubb.
I will tell you, I think they whiffed on their first pick, and I think Cleveland
Whiffed on their fourth pick. And again,
Denzel, Warden Baker can both play
in the NFL, but you could have had Sam Darnold and Bradley
Chub, who I think are Hall of Fame
potential talents over time. This
to me is more of a culture thing with
the Browns. You wouldn't hear
an assistant going
out or a coordinator
coming out and saying something like this
to the media in New England.
Maybe now is a little different now.
But the fact that he says
like Greg doesn't get to do whatever he wants, yeah, yeah, he
just did. He should be afraid to say something.
like that. He should know that we don't talk about things like that to the media.
By the way, doesn't it show you that we've seen Todd Haley and Greg Williams kind of say things
that no assistant would say to a coach they respect? Both Greg Williams and Todd Haley want to be
a head coach and both think they're better than Hugh Jackson. If one of my, if I had people,
if I was running a business and my vice presidents were making strong opinions to the Wall Street Journal
without coming to me first.
That's like, oh, so you think you should run the company.
It's not disrespectful.
It's dysfunctional.
There's not a level of respect to begin with
because you should know this is going to undermine my boss.
This is going to undermine the team.
Would Nick Saban's assistant?
When you're a two or a three,
let the one do the talking.
Like this is just disrespectful to Hugh.
It shows you these guys, Greg Williams and Todd Haley,
think they should be the head coach.
if they're making strong comments like that.
And it's disrespectful to the player, too.
Finally, for the second time this offseason,
Jalen Ramsey has O'Dell Beckham Jr. on his mind.
Shortly after O'Dell's new contract was announced,
Ramsey once again reminded everyone of their upcoming week one matchup.
He tweeted it's going to be a show very soon.
Hashtag Batman versus the Joker.
Ramsey has been talking about the Giants lot this off season.
Let's take listen to his comments earlier this month about O'Dell.
I mean, let's get this out the way right now.
He's a good receiver.
We all know that.
but y'all know me at the same time
if y'all think that
yeah he's good but I'm good too
if y'all want to say he's the best of his vision
I'm the best of my position so we're going to go at it
we're going to get the people's show first game
first game of the season that's what y'all asked for you know what I'm saying
as fans of the game as you know NFL
everybody that's what y'all asked for so
we're going to give it to you I like you
I know I am I can tell you something
he gets it he's an interesting kid
every time the first time I heard
heard Jalen Ramsey, I didn't hear him, I read his quotes.
And I was like, everything he's saying is accurate.
Like, Jalen Ramsey's one of these guys that's cocky and talks a lot.
But if you're accurate in your assessments and your opinions, I'm good with it.
And if you go out there and back it up, he's great.
So I have no problem with this.
And I like when guys, especially, you know, at the beginning of the season, when you get
into the playoffs and you know, the Super Bowl, doing the whole prediction thing and stuff,
it makes me nervous.
But during the season, like, sure, talk, talk that talk.
Go out there and make it interesting for the fans.
Give them some, give the, the rivalries are what make it interesting.
Not the Jacksonville and the Giants have a rivalry.
But if you talk leading up to it, you don't sell the fight, if you will.
Yeah.
I like it.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.
You ever gone to, what do they call them, a chiropractor?
And you get a back alignment because, you know, you did something.
I remember years and years ago, I went to a cousin's house for Thanksgiving, like 20 years ago.
I was playing football, nerve football with kids, and I stepped in a hole on Thanksgiving.
And I put my back out of alignment.
I couldn't move.
I woke up the next morning.
I couldn't move for two days.
And I think I need to get something aligned.
I am out of alignment with NFL general managers and coaches.
I'll get to that.
Plus, Doug Gottlieb is coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
FS1, and the IHeard Radio app.
I need a back alignment.
I need an NFL chiropractor because I don't align with NFL GMs anymore,
giving huge money to Sammy Watkins and Brandon Cook and Mike Evans and O'Dell Beckham.
By the way, the Giants are 7 and 12 in Beckham's biggest 19 games.
With that, I bring in Doug Gottlieb after our show, Fox Sports Radio.
God, I'll get into O'Dell in a second.
Let's start with Brady.
So Brady hangs up on a Boston radio station.
He also walked out of a press conference on a practice field a month ago.
He also got caught during a practice screaming and punting a football in frustration.
It's obviously he's got a wide receiving core in September that's going to be awful.
My takeaway is I think Tom, I think, you know, castles don't fall off a cliff.
You live in that castle, you can see the floor starts to wear out there road.
I think Tom has a real sense.
I don't have much to work with right now.
That's possible.
That's possible.
And good morning to you.
Good morning, Joy, as well.
I also think that guys who live in castles can speak to the rest of us living in shanties.
But like, look, I just think that the W.E.E.I. guys, Kirk and Callahan, they, you're allowed,
hey, one question about Alistraro, fine, I'll handle it. A follow up, that's a one and a half. Okay.
You has three questions. And after each answer, he told you he was done. Like, I'm done.
Try this with your wife when you get home at night, right? Ask her about something. She's like, look, I'm, I just,
just, I'm done. Ask you again.
Or if she asked you about your day at work, you know, it wasn't a great day.
I'm just kind of done.
You keep kind of going back to it.
And eventually, you have to draw a line.
And so I actually, in this particular instance, he had had enough, enough.
And he had said after the first answer and after the second answer, I really don't want to talk about it.
So we're going to ask you another question about it.
Like, they were right to ask the first time.
I'll even give them that they had a follow up if you want to say that's one and a half.
We all know the drill.
You're not doing your job unless.
you ask the question that everyone wants you to ask. And they did. But you don't have to ask three
times. No, that's a fair point. And I also think, I do think going back to my point, which is I think
you're right. I think Tom's gotten worn out. But, you know, it's very rare if you think about this,
Doug. If you were the best basketball player in the world and you would take in pay cuts,
you'd at least want to see where the money's going. You can make an argument in September.
he's going to have the worst receiving core in the league.
And yet all these quarterbacks who have better people this offseason,
they got their coffee cup filled up again.
Like, does Tom look around?
I mean, in a salary camp world, all these players know their limitations.
Jared Cooks got girly, maybe the second best left tackle in the game,
an excellent receiving court.
And they give him Brandon Cooks.
I mean, I do think Tom's kind of...
But they had Brandon Cooks and they didn't want him.
Remember, he was on the Patriots and pictures like,
duty wants to get paid, he's not worth it.
But Danny Amandola, he loved Danny Amandol.
They wouldn't even pay for him.
He did, but, you know, Danny Amandola was a bad version,
and an always banged up version of Wes Mucker, who he loved,
and they parted ways with, and West had one year in Denver before.
He ultimately retired.
So, look, I completely understand the idea of it looks bad when Eric Decker retires,
when a couple of their off-season signings at wide receiver, they also cut.
It does look bad.
but they always find a way to make it work, right?
They still have, you know, you still draft a kid,
Braxton Berrios, out of Miami,
who feels like kind of the next wave of that slot-wide receiver.
You can put him anywhere.
They still have two really good running backs.
You still have Rob Grankowski,
and eventually he's getting back Julian Edelman.
Like, he's going to be fine.
And you're right.
When you keep giving back, remember,
they also gave him more money in more bonuses going back to just last week.
I just think you've said this before about,
Vietnam, like the change in Vietnam was that we saw war every day. It was into our homes for the first time.
Right. And we as a country weren't ready for seeing how wars were won. Yeah. Body counts.
Bodies being dragged back onto planes. Like we weren't ready for that. Right. I don't know if it's whether
the Patriots aren't ready for this type of media coverage and the leaks that they've had or if we're not really
used to the fact that Tom Brady's kind of always been this way. He's kind of always been, hey, look, I'll give you a little bit,
but I'm going to do it my way. And if you question,
the way I do it, well, then I'm just kind of done with you.
Right? Like, if you had to watch Bill Belichick at a press conference every day,
you would go, man, I really don't like this. But if you hear them in soundbites, you can kind of
make fun of it. This is us simply getting a glimpse into everyday life of the Patriots the last
15 years. And whether it's the Patriots not being ready or we're not a really understanding
of what it takes, they're still going to win the AFC East. And I don't see any sort of decline.
Their defense couldn't be any less talented within it was last year. I think it's going to be better.
I think the wide receiving corps, he'll find a way to make it work.
So O'Dell Beckham gets money.
I've been saying this.
Odell feels like the first NBA player in the NFL.
He got a shoe contract that he doesn't necessarily equal wins,
but he puts butts in seats.
He's international.
He's got a shoe deal.
He is spectacular, if not consistent.
And I think the NFL kind of looks around,
and the Giants, they're an accounting form.
Like I said, they're an accounting firm with cleats.
They're the most conservative team in the league.
But they're not.
Aren't they're not?
No, you're using, that was a, that's a narrative that you have, that others have.
But that's an old narrative.
They overpaid for Livia Vernon.
They overpaid for Nate Solder.
Now they overpaid for Odell Beckham Jr.
Look, he is, he is the best combination in the NFL of athletic ability of speed and route running.
Yeah.
He is that good.
Yeah.
Okay.
But he was hurt his rookie year, still incredibly productive.
He was hurt last year.
So that's the only takeaway from him.
on the field. But he's been a pain in the ass.
Yeah. With the kicking net and getting into it with Josh Norman and his overall behavior.
And then we're like three or four months removed from the Snapchat video with him and a woman in a hotel room.
I understand that he's been on his best behavior. I understand that he's tried to earn back some of that equity by being a leader for wide receivers on the practice field and in the preseason.
but my two issues with the Giants inking this deal at this point in time is
can we not see him through adversity?
Adversity exposes.
Right.
Diversity, everyone always says you really find out who your friends are when you go through adversity.
Well, you really find out who your players are, you know, when you go through adversity.
When you play Portland, when they have, we have two or three game losing streak and the sky is falling,
and people are wondering if they made a mistake drafting Sequin Barclay instead of Eli Manning,
how does O'Dell Beckham Jr. handle that, right? When he doesn't get the football, he gets two or three catches, but they win a game, and they come to him and go, O'Dell, what did you think about your touches? How does he handle that adversity? We don't know that. So the Giants have empowered him and said, hey, faking it or maybe really changing over the last three months where there's been no adversity, you've been great. The other part is they become highly leveraged at these three positions at left tackle, at defensive end, and of course, at wide receiver. And they didn't address the most important position, which you're not.
quarterback, which they could have in the draft.
And then, oh, yeah, by the way, there's one pie.
Like, all these players who, you know, and granted, it was only Sterling
Shepard celebrating in the locker room yesterday with the video.
Right.
But anyone who's celebrating, hey, guys getting paid, that's awesome.
There's only one pie for the Giants.
This is what the Raiders have run into.
Everybody got pieces of the pie in the offseason.
Now, Cleo Max, like, I want the biggest piece.
They're like, yo, dude, there's no pie left for you.
And so while the Giants may be celebrating having Odell Beckham Jr., eventually, these
contracts will limit them in terms of what they want to do in the future.
So ESPN comes out with the top 100 list of players.
And listen, I like Andrew Luck more than everybody else.
But there's 14 quarterbacks listed, including Alex Smith and Kirk Cousins.
Andrew's not on the list.
Now, you could say it's an injury, but JJ Watt was hurt on the list, Deshaun Watson's hurt on the list.
Carson Wentz hurt on the list.
Have we come to a point where, okay, I get him, I like him more than everybody else.
But he is now the least appreciated great player in the league.
Can we admit that now?
Yeah, he's probably slightly overhyped coming out of college, and now he's massively underhyped.
What they should have done is, like, Andrew Luck N.A., right?
Like, hadn't played football in two years.
Right.
So it's impossible to see where you rank him, but you would rank him.
Right?
It's really, really hard.
If you ran a team with his injury and you could draft him and Alex Smith, you would still take Andrew Luck.
We do this, we see this in all sports.
Yes.
You go with the...
By the way, we saw him the height of his powers.
Alex Smith had a lead on the road in Indy,
and it was the biggest collapse
for the greatest comeback in the history of the playoffs.
Andrew Luck was one quarterback, Alex Smith, with the other.
And like, look, there's a ceiling there to Alex Smith.
Don't believe me, the Niners saw the ceiling,
the chief seal of the ceiling.
So I'm with you.
I will only give whoever put together this list
for ESPN's top hundred players a past
because it's been two years.
Now, the only thing that really matters
is two weeks ago,
he looked like a guy who hadn't played football
in a couple of years. He wasn't sharp.
He was under duress. His offensive line wasn't
great. And outside of his tight end, no one
could separate. Last week, he felt
good. He looked good. He was sharp. And he
even said, it was the first time
that I had felt like I
thought about where I wanted to put the football
and the ball went exactly where. It is
baby steps. This is Tiger Woods
in February
didn't make the cut at Riviera
right down the street. Tiger Woods
in August nearly wins the PGA.
I think it's reasonable to expect
that what we're looking at here is Tiger Woods in March.
He's starting to figure it out.
I don't think he's surrounded by a good enough supporting cast.
They have, though I've liked the moves they made for their offensive line,
it's not like they're going to have the best offensive line in football,
having just gotten together.
They still don't have a ton of weaponry for him to throw to,
and he's going to have to throw guys open.
But I would expect by the end of the season,
injuries, obviously, notwithstanding,
Andrew Luck will look like a top five, top seven quarterback in the NFL,
because when healthy, that's what he is.
By the way, football season's officially here.
You're doing your radio show after mine.
It's fun, right?
Oh, my gosh.
We actually have football games.
Notre Dame, Michigan this weekend.
It's incredible.
Notre Dame Michigan this weekend.
I'm a huge hardball fan.
Are you a Harbaugh fan?
Yes.
Okay.
I always back him.
He has to win this one.
And I've never said that in three years.
I have not said one time with Harbaugh, you've got to win this one.
Because, by the way, he's a bad ballmark from being three years.
Brady Hoax mess.
And a crazy play on a.
a block punt.
Boy, I dropped it.
But this game, if he loses to Notre Dame, we only have 40 seconds left.
But if he loses, I'm going to eat a dirt sandwich on Tuesday.
Well, they have a ridiculously difficult schedule.
You and I have been standing on top of every sort of soapbox saying, look, it's not just
about how good you are.
It's about how you can manipulate the schedule in the right year.
But they got a dominant defense.
They did lose their top wide receiver to injury.
And they have, Shea Patterson's the first legit quarterback he's had at Michigan.
Michigan needs to win this game.
I can't wait.
Washington plays Auburn.
That's a biggie.
Keep your eye on.
Texas Tech, Mississippi.
That's a big one.
Yeah.
All right.
Doug Gottlieb, good stuff.
Joel Clat on today.
Tony Gonzalez, Patrick Mahomes.
The herd.
This hour number two is the herd.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening live in Los Angeles,
Iheart radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1.
Joy Taylor is joining me on a Tuesday hour two.
College football, massive games this weekend.
Michigan, Notre Dame Harbaugh has to win.
Washington, Auburn is a massive game, national title implications.
They're both good enough to make the playoff.
Tony Gonzalez, Patrick Mahomes, the next star quarterback.
You know, I love Sam Darnold.
Patrick Mahomes, though, has been the most impressive in the preseason sat last year.
So it kind of feels like his rookie year.
I want to start with this, though, is that, you know, I've said I believe in analytics.
I don't, I think analytics also matter.
Analytics matter.
but in pro sports, you're dealing with alpha, males, and young men.
Man analytics sometimes matter, too.
Don't go crazy on analytics, but they do matter.
And we have seen baseball analytics.
The teams that were early adapters and put their arms around analytics are being rewarded.
The Indians, the Cubs, the Dodgers, the Red Sox, the Yankees.
Teams that are now embracing analytics in baseball are succeeding.
Joy, you would admit that in the NBA, Golden State embraced analytics, Houston embraced analytics.
They have been similarly rewarded.
In the NFL, analytics are just seeping into the sport.
And some of the early adapters are the Niners, the Eagles, and the Rams.
They're putting their arms around analytics.
The Cleveland Browns, Jeff Fisher, was old school.
it didn't work.
I think Tampa Bay's got a coach.
Dirk Cutter, who's a little old school.
They're the worst team in their division.
The Cleveland Browns have an offensive line coach that rolls his eyes at stretching
that has a defensive coordinator that called a player stupid.
This is old school football.
It's very interesting.
Over the course of the weekend, Warren Sharp does a really good job with analytics.
Greg Williams talked about an injured player on his team.
team and said, maybe he'll finally listen to me and stop doing those stupid things the way he's
tackling and tackling the way I tell him to tackle.
Kyle Shanahan also got a defensive back hurt, said, I wouldn't say frustration.
That would be negative toward Jimmy.
I love Jimmy.
He's very tough.
He's gotten hurt, but I don't question any of those.
Same dilemma, same position, different way to handle it.
And, you know, I think this is one of the things I believe in.
I think analytics matter.
that you can't just close your eyes to players and humanity and toughness,
but you better be 75, 25, 25 analytics, 75 analytics, 25 manaletics.
Okay.
All right.
And when I look at Cleveland, I see the opposite of the Niners and the opposite of the Rams.
This is what worries me about John Gruden, fire breathing John Gruden, old school.
Old school used to be one of those things.
that was a badge of honor.
Old school, when you said old school,
you were battle tested and you were experienced.
But when I hear people say old school now,
it's like, oh, you're unwilling to adapt.
Everything old school isn't bad.
No, you're right.
That's right.
There are old school things I like.
But everything in life is about balance.
You can have old school grit in that, you know,
relentless, hard work.
working mentality and still embrace, you know, analytics that are going to help you examine the
game in a different way.
But I do think you-
And, you know, just stretch.
I think you have to be a pretty, in 2018, I think you have to be pretty pro-player.
I think the yelling, screaming, dehumanizing thing, there's not a lot of successful
screamers out there.
You can bark a little at practice.
Don't call them out in the paper.
Don't call them out too often in the games.
Mike Shoshchewski has a legendary reputation.
he'll crush in practice.
When the games come, he's on the refs.
When the games come, he's on the refs.
He's on his coaches.
During practice, he's on his players.
Well, I don't believe that you can't be hard on people.
I mean, it's a part of almost every business that you have to take some criticism and grow.
If you're the same person or the same player you are when you came in the league five years in,
you're probably not going to be in the league unless you're just raw talent.
But there's a, like I said, there's a balance to everything.
You can criticize someone.
It can't just all be negative.
and it's how you say something, just how you present it.
There's two ways of looking at everything, right?
If you look at it in a positive way,
not only are you protecting the player,
you're protecting yourself and your entire team.
People are going to feel supported.
Now you can go and tell him behind closed doors,
hey, you're tackling the wrong way.
You can't call a grown man stupid.
What do you think the rest of the team's going to think?
That's what I think.
Once that's on paper, once that's on the social media,
players are going like, they're DMing each other.
They're like, dude, you can't go there.
I mean, words matter.
Just, I mean, think about the last person that called you stupid.
I punched him right in the forehead.
Speaking of that, Joel Clatt was the last guy that called me stupid.
You were the last guy.
That was an incredible segue.
You really were the last guy that called me.
I know, and I did it on your own radio show.
I wear that like a badge of honor.
Like, I'm old school, right?
Okay, I think you agree with me.
I'm a Harbaugh guy.
Yeah, I'm a Harbaugh guy as well.
Goes to San Diego, turns it around in two years.
Goes to Stanford, their 0-12 turns around in three years.
He goes to the 49ers, turns around in one year.
He goes to Michigan.
He's a bad mark at Ohio State from being in a playoff already.
I've supported him, but we're in year four.
He's got to beat Notre Dame Saturday.
Because then I'm up against the wall defending him.
I'm like, okay, Colin, four years, all his player got an NFL quarterback.
This is the first game with Harbaugh.
I feel as a defender, Jimmy, you've got to line up and beat that team.
I would agree with you.
Now, I think that they can achieve.
everything that they need to
this year, even with a lost Saturday
night. So I wouldn't put myself
firmly in the Campbell if they have to win this
game because they can still go win the division. They can go
to the playoff even if they lose this game.
Certainly. It's going to
make it a lot tougher because
I think that the
discussion around it will be so
intense via what you're
talking about. The scrutiny will be
so intense that it'll be tough to overcome
for that team. I happen
to think that they win Saturday night. I think that
they're a better team than Notre Dame this year.
I think it's close, but I think that they're a better
team, and I think that this is
his best chance. I mean, this is his best
team that he's had at Michigan.
A lot of people are talking about their offensive
line, and yeah, that's certainly a little bit of a
question mark, but I'm also
a hardball defender. Colin, here's the thing.
This notion
or narrative that he's somehow
overrated or is
underperforming at Michigan is false.
It is false. It's not only false.
It is like, okay, what
your agenda saying that? Correct.
If you, listen, in any line
of work, look at you.
So you are a great high school athlete.
You get a college scholarship
and you succeed. You raise a great family.
Now you're an excellent analyst.
Oh, thank you. Success, success.
My theory is like, if you keep succeeding
in life, I'm going to give you a pass
on a bump in year three of your newest
job. Harbaugh's won everywhere.
He overachieved as a player. He overachieved
at San Diego, Stanford,
the Niners. Yeah.
like folks he's a bad spot against Ohio State from being in the playoffs and I don't want people to get revisionist in their history like they just came out of the Schimbeckler era and everything was great before he got there I mean it was it was bordering on a dumpster fire it was at Michigan when when he entered the fray there and a lot of heck the guy you sit across from in the afternoons Whitlock has has got the hoke ties from oh yeah that's why Whitlock defends him
Brady Hoke and that's why he bashes Harbaugh because the more he can bash Harbaugh,
the better the Hoke arrow looks in hindsight.
And that agenda is very clear and it's very plain for everyone.
I don't have any agendas on this show.
I try to call balls and strikes.
Thank you.
That's me.
Strike.
Ball.
That's me.
Ball and strike guy.
That's you?
Yeah.
I'm ball and strike guy.
Yeah, but you got a book.
I have a slight agenda with Sam Darnel, but I think I'm right on that one.
I was going to say you got a slight agenda on Baker Mayfield.
as well. No, I think I'm right on that one. We'll see. That'll be...
I mean, it remains to be seen. They both played pretty well in the preseason.
Oh, absolutely. Hey! I hope that they have a lot of success, both of them. Okay. So here's what's
great about college football this year. And I used to bang on the Big Ten. Good Lord. Michigan's got
the best defense. Wisconsin has the best offensive line. Ohio State has the best roster. Penn State has
the best schedule and playmaking quarterback. And I think Iowa may have the most underrated player in
the country, Nate Stanley, their quarterback.
And you forgot Michigan State has the most experience.
Oh, they have a grumpy coach.
Oh, you can't win a national title.
You can't win a national title with a coach that grumpy.
Nick Saban's more grumpy than Mark Dantonio.
In fact, he groomed Mark Dantono.
They coached together.
Yeah, Nick Saban can also be hysterically funny at press conferences.
Nick Saban's funny.
I mean, only when he's demeaning the press.
I mean, then we all laugh and like, ha-ha, look at he's demeaning that guy in the front row.
Find me the last grumpy coach that won a national.
championship. Nick Saban last year. What are you talking about Find Me the last? Nick Saban's
grumpy. I don't think he's grumpy. I think he's I think he has a thousand times the
personality of Belichick. I think he I think Nick Saban's a riot. I think when he goes to the
podium, when Nick Saban goes to the podium, you're hilarious. Nick Sabin is a notorious grumpy.
Exactly. He's not grumpy. By the way, what Nick Saban goes to the podium like three times a year,
right? And he goes in, he goes on these rants. You guys do realize those are funny. Those are funny.
Some of them are funny, but they're taking them as funny.
He's not meaning that he's like, oh, today I'm going to be funny.
No, no, no, no.
He's going in there like, ugh.
That's his mindset going into some of those press conferences.
You're like, this is hilarious.
It's only hilarious because he's demeaning the guy in the front row.
God, Sam, go get a couple of these Nick Sabin crazy rants.
I think Nick goes into those things in his mind.
Nick knows I'm going to do a little theater here.
What a tangent.
To get my point across.
What a tangent. We were talking about the Big Ten and the depth of the Big Ten.
I would bring up Michigan State in that. You didn't want to because of their grumpy head coach.
But let me go further with your analogy. Can you imagine right now the media hysteria that would be surrounding a conference that included Washington, Oklahoma, Clemson, Georgia, and Notre Dame?
That would be the equivalent of what the Big Ten has right now. Right now.
They've got five teams in the top 15 probably should be higher than that.
I think Michigan is the most underrated team.
I totally agree.
Everybody's got them at 15, 14.
I'm like, timeout.
They probably have next to Clemson, the best defense in the country.
I would rank those five teams in the top 12, personally, with the least of them being
Penn State at 12.
I would have Michigan State right at 9.
Then I would have Michigan at 8.
I would have Ohio State right up there in the top four and Wisconsin in the top five.
So, I mean, this is a loaded conference.
This is such a great weekend.
Washington plays Auburn.
Auburn schedule is too hard to make the national championship.
championship, but their talent, especially front seven defensively, is good enough to play for a
championship. That's a heavyweight fight. Can I just bring up a little, just a nugget for everyone
in college football to think about when you're watching Washington and Auburn on Saturday?
That's the second biggest game. Some would argue, actually it's the best two teams colliding.
Probably, and I think it's the most meaningful game in the week one. That's a great way to put it.
And here's why, is because I don't believe that Washington can make the playoff if they lose on Saturday.
and you might be thinking yourself, what are you talking about?
They would still have Oregon and Stanford, but they could win.
Joel, you're crazy.
No, no, no, no.
Hear me out.
Auburn's likely not going to win their own division.
They're not.
And likely not going to win the SEC.
They'll likely be a very clear third place team in their conference this season
with the quality of Georgia and Alabama going on in the SEC,
which means even if Washington were to run the table after a loss to Auburn in this scenario,
you would have them being defeated by this third place team in the SEC
and Georgia and Alabama might be in a position to get in.
Oh, by the way, you could clearly state the case
that those two teams would deserve inclusion based on this best metric over Washington.
So I'm just telling you right now, college football fan,
this is the most meaningful game in week one
because the entire season depends on it for Washington.
And it's a very, very clear to see that in my mind.
They will not be able to overcome a loss to Auburn.
All right.
Have we got the Sabin clip yet?
Okay.
We don't have one yet?
I got hockey scores out here.
You can't get me a Sabin clip?
Okay.
All right.
Let's go.
You do this every week.
Yes.
So this is my...
Joy, if you've never been on the show...
Oh, this is the best part, Joe.
This is the best part.
Joy, he, Mr. Courage, he gives us...
You know, I've mustered...
I've got two real upsets this week.
Okay.
Actual upsets.
Joel Klatz almost upset of the week.
This week we're getting real upsets.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Give me some music.
Give me a drum roll.
Give me something.
Here we go.
I've got Washington over Auburn in the most meaningful game in week one.
I think the Huskies beat Auburn.
Auburn's favorite in that game.
What time out?
That's not an upset.
What's the point spread?
Three.
Three is if I tripped over an end line.
That's not an upset.
What do you want me to start talking about that I?
I think Oregon State's going to be within 42 of Ohio State.
That's not very fun.
I'm going with the upset Washington over Auburn.
That is an upset?
It is.
You're like making common malfunction.
Yeah, this is like he's short circling over here.
Like the hairdriar hitting the bathtub.
What is wrong with you?
That is a flimsyest, weakest.
Oh, spoken like the guy from Seattle.
That's not even an upset.
It is.
Washington's ranked in the latest eight people.
Washington's ahead of it.
of Auburn. And they're a dog.
From Vinnie the Chin in Vegas.
Oh, you quote Vegas all the time when it serves your needs.
Okay, that's your big upset.
What's your next one?
Clemson beats Alabama in the national title game.
I think Michigan beats Notre Dame.
That's not an upset.
It is an upset.
Bengals aren't upset.
Am I taking crazy bills?
What is happening right now?
Well, the graphic says almost upset alert.
So you're picking Washington and Michigan.
Yes, I am.
To win this weekend.
Do you want me to sit here and talk about Oregon State and Ohio State?
What?
You got the Warriors winning the time on the NBA?
38?
Got Philadelphia making it?
That has a spread of 38?
Got the Eagles making the playoffs this year?
Oh, whatever.
What a gambler.
Well, those are flimsy.
You're unbelievable.
God.
Unbelievable.
I was so excited.
You're like, I got two.
I do.
I have two legitimate actual upsets.
Michigan over Notre Dame, Washington over.
Last year you were coming on this show going Panera bread beats Ohio State and we were celebrating it.
Now you're picking Chris Peterson, the second best coach in the sport and Harbaugh the third to win.
Joel, I'm usually on your side, but Colin really sold that.
And I got a guy with Colin on this one.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
All right, Joel.
Listen, a game I'm calling.
Which one are you calling?
FAU Oklahoma.
It'll be 72 to 40.
I disagree.
I'm just saying.
Okay.
Joel Clatt.
Was that good enough for you, Colin?
You didn't call it.
You didn't have the courage to go on that one.
Well, I'm calling the game.
All right.
Just try to upgrade next week.
Unbelievable.
It's still preseason for you.
And this is how he behaves.
Got a book.
Clat can't pick an upset.
By the way, I'm going to show you something in the NFL that nobody's talking about.
One guy, not even a player, is going to affect three teams dramatically.
Oh, that's bold.
Yeah, that's coming up.
That's the not even an upset.
That's just courage right there.
That's just courage.
College football is back.

H-E-R-D. You get savings. So O'Dell Beckham signed a gigantic contract. Yesterday and speak for
yourself, Jason Whitlock and Bucky Brooks, two guys I work with a lot, had different opinions.
So let's lay it out for you. I think the Giants have made a mistake. I think that O'Dell
Beckham Jr. has been on his best behavior this off-season.
season to get the money.
I don't think he loves the game.
I think he loves the attention.
I think he loves being a celebrity.
Now he's got the money to be that kind of celebrity,
and that's where they're going to get.
They got a celebrity-wide receiver.
He's not Julio Jones.
He's not Antonio Brown.
They will not get their money's worth out of this deal.
Oh, I disagree.
I believe he's the engine to that Giants offense.
And if they didn't pay him, if they didn't retain him,
that offense can't function.
Eli-Man is a different quarterback when number 13 isn't on the field.
the New York Giants had to open up the bank because he is their most important player.
Both make points I agree with.
Eli is a different quarterback with O'Dell Beckham.
You just look at the numbers last three years.
You can't deny it.
I also think he's a celebrity more than a wide receiver in his mind at times.
But we know this to be true.
What I'm about to say that we know what I'm about to say is true,
that certain things can be okay on their own, but much better.
know, I haven't had a jelly sandwich since I was eight.
I have a peanut butter in jelly sandwich six days a week.
Then I just suddenly love jelly, right?
Like, we know certain things on their own combined with something flourish.
This happens all the time.
And I'm going to give you something called the Pat Schumer effect.
Three things are going to happen, some good, some bad, because of Pat Schumer.
Case Keenham had huge numbers last year.
They will decline in Denver precipitously because he doesn't have Pat Shermer as his offensive coordinator.
Case Keenham numbers are going to drop like a rock.
He's had one great year in his career with Pat Shermer.
Eli Manning's numbers will improve dramatically from Ben McAdoo to Pat Shermer.
I guarantee you this year, not just because of Saquan Barkley,
because Ben McAdo
still doesn't have a football job
and Pat Shermer's probably
after Kyle Shanahan and McVey
a lot of people think the smartest offensive guy in the league
and third, the Vikings lose Pat
Shermer as a coordinator
they're going to go from about 13 wins
to 9 or 10 wins
and I like Minnesota a lot
but one coach is going to have a massive effect
in this league. Pat Schumer
and why am I bringing him up
because I think the New York Giants sat there and thought
nobody really knew who Stefan Diggs was
and then Pat Shermer
and Case Keenham was kind of average
and then Pat Shermer
is that I think of you're the New York Giants
and you look at Pat Shermer
and then you look at Odell Beckham
and you're saying you know what for four years together
he'll create real football magic
and we know this
Matt Ryan is a good quarterback
had Kyle Shanahan was a great quarterback.
Kyle Shanahan left.
He went back to being a good quarterback.
I think one of the reasons the Giants make this move is Pat Schumer.
That's why when Jason Whitlock and Bucky go back and forth,
I could agree with both.
Both of what they say, I agree with.
But I think in the end the Giants said, and I kind of get this,
is we're going to get a running back with the number two pick because of Pat Schumer.
And we're going to sign Odell Beckham to a long-term deal because of Pat Schumer.
And we're not going to draft a quarter.
quarterback yet. We're going to go with Eli two more years because of Pat Shermer. And they're not
necessarily wrong. Look how bad Jared Goff look with Fisher. Look how good Jared Goff look with
Sean McVeigh. Look what Kyle Shanahan did to Jimmy Garoppolo. Five and O. Look what happened to
Matt Ryan when he lost Kyle Shanahan. I know this is not some sexy topic. You don't want to talk
about Pat Shermer. But if I'm the Giants, a big part of drafting Sequin, passing on a quarterback,
signing Beckham is this guy.
And I think outside of Sean McVeigh with the Rams and Kyle Shanahan with the 49ers,
a lot of people look at Pat Schumer as that guy that just takes offensive weapons
that are good and makes them great and the great talents he makes into spectacular players.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So John Lynch made his first big move as GM of the 49ers.
when he traded for Jimmy G.
But apparently, Jimmy G. wasn't the only quarterback that Lynch was eyeing.
Let's take a listen to his recent appearance and part of my take.
Did you ask for Tom Brady?
I'm not supposed to talk about that.
You can't talk about another manager.
You did, and that's okay.
That's a cold move.
But I like that.
You know, it's your first year in the league as a general manager.
Why not just take shots?
Worst thing that happens is to say no, right?
Yeah, we were calling about Jimmy, and we did have that conversation and got quickly rebuffed.
Yeah, I'd say so.
I figure, you know, what the heck?
You got to take your shot, right?
You can't score if you don't shoot.
So I had to summon up the courage and, you know, Bill laughed.
Yeah, Bill laughed at me.
That's awesome.
And basically hung up on me, but hey, you know, I took my shot.
Hey, shoot or shoot, you know.
That's an amazing story.
It's an amazing story that they got Jimmy Garoppolo for a second round pick.
That is.
But the second storyline, storyline B that he had to cut stuff.
ask for Tom Brady is so amazing.
That's guts.
Lynch used to work here at Fox.
I covered John in Tampa.
You know how you work with somebody and you always know, oh, they're going to be successful?
Lynch was one of those guys' playing.
He was out of Stanford.
He went to Stanford to be a quarterback who came a DB.
And it was always like, oh, John's one of those guys.
He's like a less famous John Elway.
Like you meet John Elway.
Russell has that effect to me.
Like when you meet Russell Wilson, I remember.
remember meeting Russell Wilson as a Super Bowl and telling my, at the time my producer, Vince
Case, I'm like, he's going to be commissioner.
Like, you're just like, oh, that guy's, that is a culture changing human being.
They have a certain finesse about them.
And they're just, you just, they walk into a room and it's the look and it's the personality
and everybody likes them.
And they just lubricate the room.
And Lynch has always been one of those guys.
And apparently they live without fear.
Yeah.
Because they ask for Tom Brady and trade.
Speaking of Tom Brady, the Patriots receiving unit, it's been sliced pretty thin this preseason.
They've cut Malcolm Mitchell, Jordan Matthews, Kenny Britt, Eric Decker retired, and of course Julian Edelman will miss the first four games due to suspension.
So it's not too surprising that Des Bryant's name has been thrown around.
And here is Tom Brady on Des.
I know Des just a little bit.
You know, I think he's obviously a hell of a player.
But, you know, I don't make those situations for our team.
And I don't, you know, go in there and tell him who I want.
And that's not the position I've ever played.
You know, you just respect our team for what they're looking.
for and our personnel people and, you know, my job is to play quarterback and who's ever here,
that's why I have to make it work with.
Unless your name is Jimmy D.
I got to be honest.
I don't hate Daz in New England.
I don't either.
And we said this, I'm not a Daz guy, but I'm not a Dess guy with Dack.
But he is the all-time leading touchdown maker at wide receiver.
Not Michael Irvin, not Bullet Bob Hayes, not Alvin-Harper.
not Jason Whitman.
You start looking at the touchdowns that Desd gave you.
You can't tell me he can't play in this league.
And again, as long as you sign him once the season starts and you can cut him
and only have to pay him for like a month, I'm okay.
I'm not going to give Des the leverage with me.
But in New England right now, I'm not sure it's a terrible move.
I just think that Tom has the ability to elevate everyone around him.
And we've seen time and time again, the Patriots organization, be able to handle
those bigger personalities and bring them into their culture and let them, you know, reboot themselves if they will.
So I don't think that, I mean, I would like to see Des Bryant and Tom Brady together.
Like that's just appointment television to begin with.
Not that wherever Des goes, everyone's going to be watching just to see how he performs.
But I do think it does in New England would be interesting.
Finally, perfect transition.
Many fans believe that the preseason isn't quite working.
We've discussed the preseason a lot, maybe being too long.
teams really play their starters, and of course they're not playing the greatest games,
despite charging full price for tickets.
So Jerry Jones has an idea.
Let's listen.
My solution is real simple.
It's cut back on preseason games, have one at each team's home, and play a couple of them,
and then you need to add two games to the regular season,
which I've been a proponent of for several years.
That's a better equity or a better way of.
of players using what they bring to the table, their talents, their skills, their professional
time and pro sports, that'll give them a bigger payday.
That's fair.
And the other thing it does is certainly give our fans what we all think they deserve,
and that is a competitive game.
Well, I like the first part of that.
I don't think you have to add games to players, but I will say this.
I think Jerry's right.
Preseason two games.
Each team gets one home preseason game.
I mean, I'm watching these games.
These teams now are just not even playing top players for a play.
Forget a series.
So, I mean, I think, you know what?
I think coaches are sending a message to the owners.
And that message is this preseason is way too long and you guys can figure it out.
But we're not, there's no reward in preseason.
There's a huge risk.
Right.
And it's just no good for fans either.
I mean, like, you're watching mostly guys that aren't going to make the team.
They're charging full price for the tickets.
The problem with Jerry's theory, overall theory, is, I mean, it is going to, he claims it's going to add a billion more in revenue for the players.
Yeah, but probably $5 billion more for the owners.
Correct.
And also, if they're playing two more regular season games, that means those starters are going to be playing the regular season games, not the guys that aren't making the team.
So you can't talk about how you're worried about player safety and longevity and all that when you're adding two more regular season games.
It just doesn't – that doesn't work.
This is – I mean, look, like, Jerry – you know, Jerry's good at what he does, and he is great at making money, and that's what this is really about.
It's not about the quality of the game.
No question.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd line news.
I was saying this earlier, you know how you go to a chiropractor for a back alignment?
I need a new alignment because I know.
longer aligned with NFL GMs.
Odell Beckham got this massive contract.
And, you know, I've said before, I mean, Odell Beckham, in his 19 best NFL games,
the Giants are 7 and 12.
I mean, Sammy Watkins has been on three teams, had no impact with any of them, just
signed another major contract.
I watched him with the Rams last year.
Sammy Watkins was their fourth leading wide receiver in that huge playoff game against
Atlanta at the Coliseum.
He had one catch.
And he just got another massive, massive payday.
Brandon Cook's is on his third team.
He's had really no impact on any of them.
And that's with Breeze and Brady as his quarterbacks.
And he got a massive contract.
Mike Evans in Tampa, good player.
His five biggest games as a pro, the Buccaneers are one and four.
I mean, I just, I'm not aligned with GMs right now.
Jarvis Landry, I have 34 million guaranteed for a slot receiver.
I mean, Stefan Diggs, I like him.
But they got a great defense.
They got a great back.
They got a great tight end, Rudolph.
They have a great wide receiver.
I'm just not aligned right now.
Of all these guys, you guys are all talented.
Beckham's probably the most talented.
But man, 56.5 guaranteed for a perimeter player who is injury prone and has been, let's not get ourselves here.
He's been a lot of maintenance.
You know, it's just I'm out of alignment with the NFL.
Like I have no problem paying players.
quarterback left tackle, pass rusher, defensive lineman, center, corner, middle linebacker, star running back.
I mean, receivers like seventh for me.
So maybe I'm wrong.
There's two new rule changes in the NFL.
The catch rule's been flipped and the helmet rule is going to be enforced.
They're both very pro-wide receiver rules.
So my guess is that's what the NFL is doing.
They suspect wide receivers are now going to have major influence winning games, which even the great ones haven't
through the years. Tony Gonzalez,

So now we go to the final preseason game.
This weekend is their final week of preseason NFL, which is, you know,
that's going to happen over the next couple days, mostly unwatchable, junk football,
a guy's not really, you're going to get one or two interesting stories.
Young quarterbacks will play a little bit.
That's interesting for the Jets and maybe Cleveland.
Then they have a very good college football weekend.
So Lamar Jackson, by the way, this past game had a very good game,
but nobody added any in the media.
and nobody added any context to it.
He didn't play until the second half.
He was playing against third team guys.
So, you know, everybody was like, oh, Lamar Jackson came out and said,
I hope people know I can throw.
Listen, you're completing 47% through three games.
That is not even close to good enough.
He is a project, not a prospect.
And his passer rating is 76.
Again, that is significantly below average.
So this is what I have with him so far.
I don't mind his yards per attempt
because most of these rookies,
they're trying to put in good spots underneath routes.
That doesn't bother me.
But remember, this for Lamar is often against third teamers.
Flacco's not playing.
Robert G is starting or playing.
He's going second half on this stuff.
So I want to do this once again
because Josh Allen for Buffalo.
Everybody, you know, myself included, oh, wow, he looks pretty good.
This last week they started him against the ones
and Josh Allen was completely overwhelmed.
So I want to go back to what I said before the draft on the quarterbacks.
This is what I said.
We'll put it up again.
Rosen and Darald can win now.
They can overcome some weaknesses with their personnel.
Baker Mayfield can win now, but he's going to need some help.
He needs more help.
He's not the thrower of Rosen or the athlete of Darnold.
Alan and Lamar, they're just, if you put him in the games right now,
they're going to struggle to win games.
Okay, now after everything I've said,
here's where I believe we stand right now today,
which is the tears have changed, but not much.
Sam Darnold remains can win now.
Not going to go 10 and 6, not going to go 11 and 5,
but he can overcome a bad offensive line and no running game.
He's got little Andrew Luck.
You can win games now with him.
Baker and Rosen, from what I've seen,
can win with help.
Rosen, little tweaked injury, had those in college.
That concerns me.
And I'll remain steadfast in my belief that Josh Allen and Lamar can't win early.
Now, Josh Allen's going to start.
But Baltimore is a better organization than Buffalo.
So they're not going to put Lamar on a field either late this year or next year of the year after,
depending on how Flacco plays.
But when I watch Josh Allen against Cincinnati against a one defense,
and I watch Andy Dalton in that same game.
Wow.
It was a massive gap.
So I think, and by the way, if you line these guys up on preseason completion percentage,
which is a real thing, it kind of goes in line with what I believe they were.
Darnold easily has completed the most.
Baker and Rosen close next and then Josh and Lamar beneath them.
That's about what I thought it would be.
Now, I do think that Rosen throws a better football than all of them.
He's just a better thrower with the football.
But there's, you know, there's a lot of elements.
He's not as athletic.
He's not as durable from what I've seen as Baker and Donald who can take more hits.
So that's where we are right now.
I think this weekend, it's a very exciting time,
is that in this week four, you're going to see some of these young quarterbacks.
I believe strongly five quarterbacks taken, two can't win.
too can with help, but I do think
Donald is separated.
You know, some people are going to say, well, Baker and Rosen,
I think Sam looks like the best quarterback.
And Sam looks like I thought he was going to look like.
Now, it should be noted, in my opinion,
Teddy Bridgewater is still better than Sam Donald.
I still believe he is.
Not by much, though.
The gap is closed.
So I think if I ran the Jets, I would start Darnold.
I would move Teddy.
I think Darnold can win a couple of games early.
They play the Jets.
Or they play, excuse me.
They play Oakland, they play Detroit.
They've got some winnable games.
I think you're better served, not risking injury to Teddy B.
Put him out there for a team that needs him.
Take an offer.
Get a pick and get an offensive lineman and just go with Sam Darnel and Josh McCown for the next several years.
Both good enough to win.
One's the future.
One's the mentor.
But I think Teddy's kind of in no man's land.
He's not your future and he's not your mentor.
Go get picks.
Sam's good enough right now to,
seven and nine it, eight and eight. And that's about what he's going to be.
You're going to be about seven and nine, eight and eight. If things work his way,
stays healthy, Jets would have to stay healthy. The other thing this weekend, that, and I don't think,
I want to go back to Jim Harbaugh with Joel Clatt talked about this, is that, you know,
I'm a really big believer if you keep succeeding, if you've succeeded on multiple levels,
man, woman, relationship, business, football, that I'm going to give you a,
pass if I see growth, but you haven't hit it yet. I'm shocked at the number of people,
especially on social media, that are anti-Jim Harbaugh. The guy overachieved as a player,
turned around San Diego in two years. He took over, Stanford was Owen 12. Three years later,
as a 40-point dog, he beat Pete Carroll and the Trojans in the Coliseum. He goes to San Francisco,
replaces Mike Singletary's mess and immediately wins games, gets to the NFC championship,
I think a couple of times.
John, you were up there, right?
Three times.
And then goes to the Super Bowl.
And no question takes over Brady Hoke and improves immediately.
I don't get the doubters.
Folks, what is there to doubt?
He is a bad ballmark from already making the playoffs.
Now, that year they would have been destroyed by Clemson and Alabama.
But sometimes I sit there, do we live in the moment so much now in America that we can't acknowledge a person's resume?
Are we here to judge everybody on what just happened yesterday?
I mean, I know you all rush to Twitter because you want to be profound, and most people who live on that thing aren't.
You know, it's like Rush Limbaugh calls them the invisibles.
People that aren't something want to be something.
They don't want to put in the time, and Twitter's easy.
You know, a couple clicks, and you're a big star.
talking to Jay-Z and taking shots at people.
But are we not in America any longer watching resumes?
I can make an argument that Harbaugh's resume is far more impressive than Nick Sabins.
Nick Sabin didn't turn Michigan State around.
He was winning like seven games there.
Even at LSU his fourth year at LSU, he was lost four games.
He went to Miami and got run out of the NFL.
Nick Sabins hit one home run.
I mean, again, LSU,
was a win, but it took him a while at LSU.
And that's Louisiana. They got nothing but high school stars everywhere.
You line up Harbaugh's resume, the only person that connects with it,
that you could really say is better as Urban Meyer.
Urban's gone four for four on turnaround jobs and multiple national titles,
but doesn't have success in the NFL.
Folks, do we not acknowledge that Jim Harbaugh,
in overnight went into the National Football League up against Pete Carroll,
in his own division.
Sean Payton in the NFC.
And he was a three with Alex Smith and Kaepernick.
Like are envisible?
Are resumes invisible now?
Do they not count?
It's remarkable to me.
I don't.
Now, if he loses Notre Dame,
I'm going to have to eat a dirt sandwich
until they go in a seven-game winning streak.
But even if they lose the Notre Dame,
he's had four.
He's had, when did he coached his?
San Diego. He's had 15 straight years of a success. And you're, yeah, it's like 06 he was in San Diego.
It's 2018. Where is he failed? God, resume still count. My bad. Hour 3's coming up. Patrick Mahomes,
who's really had the best, if you want to call it, rookie campaign of all the quarterbacks.
Don't be that guy in the room with a long, sloppy looking untuck shirt, untucket.com code,
herd 20% off.
H-E-R-D, G-Q calls them perfection.
Hour 3 coming up.
Next.
This is the herd wherever you may be.
And however, you may be listening.
Hour number three live in Los Angeles.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
Iheart Radio, Foxportio Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1.
Okay.
So we had Joel Clad on, and I argued
that I think Nick Saban has a lot of personality
and it's funny. When he goes to the mic, Nick Saban decides
three or four times a year, I've got a point to make, and I'm going to make that point.
Now, he's intense, but I think he's funny. Mark Dantonio, the coach of...
The Rockets.
No, no, no, that's Antonio, Michigan State. I always butcher his last name.
It's Mark Dan... Mark Danio, Michigan State. And the guy at Houston Rockets,
is Mike Dantone. Yes. Right. Exactly. Okay. The guy in Michigan State's just grumpy.
Nick Saban's funny. I'm going to play this tape. We'll do a poll on my stupid Twitter.
Grumpy or funny. You tell me what this is. I think it's funny. I don't even know why we play.
Why do we even play? Why do we even have practice? Why do we compete? You just think we just,
you know, whatever happens, we just another player. I and everything.
going to be perfect. All of our fans think that. You all think that. That's what you write about.
Why would you ask me? I mean, I read stuff all the time like, oh, that's nice to know.
You all don't remember the Georgia Southern game, do you? I don't think we had a guy on that field
that didn't play in the NFL, and about four or five of them were first-round draft picks.
And I think that team won a national championship, but I'm not sure. And they run through our ass like
shit through a ten horn, man, and we could not stop them. And, you know, thanks for asking.
I think that's funny.
Next to Jay Leno, that's the funniest stand-up I've ever seen.
That's like Chris Rock.
He's joking with people.
There are guys that are grumpy.
He has a sense of humor.
I think he's funny.
You don't think he's funny?
I mean, look at the picture behind you.
He is a grump.
He is a grump.
Some grumps.
He's not grumpy in that he never smiles.
I think he is.
But you can be a sarcastic grump.
I think he is an incredibly embraceable.
funny grump.
The guy in Michigan station...
When did Nick Saban become lovable?
I don't know.
When he goes to the podium, maybe it's because when he delivers this stuff, he's smiling.
Yes, it's insane.
Like, if I was angry all the time, but if I'm laughing, it's easier to digest.
I don't think I'm grumpy.
I think I'm a little jaded, maybe, a little cynical.
But I think Nick Sabins are right.
Anyway, we'll do a poll.
We'll put it up.
Tony Gonzalez showed up in 15 minutes, by the way.
Patrick Mahomes showing up before the end of the show.
The Chief's new star quarterback.
Best for last, I'll give you every NFC team in three words.
But I'm noticing today that it's an amazing what the New York Giants have done for Eli Manning this offseason.
They stole Tom Brady's left tackle.
They drafted with a number two pick in a running back rich draft, Sequin Barclay.
They re-sign Odell Beckham, draft another offensive lineman in the second round,
and then hire one of these great offensive gurus, Pat Shermer.
Jared Goff, just a kid, already has Todd Gurley,
already has a really good receiving core,
and they went out and spent $80 million to get him another toy Brandon Cook.
Patrick Mahomes has Kareem Hunt,
Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelsey.
They went out and got him another toy.
Sammy Watkins.
Matt Ryan already has a loaded backfield.
Julio Jones.
They went out and drafted in the first round,
a wide receiver from Alabama.
Cam Newton last couple of years.
Gets an explosive dynamic running back.
Christian McCaffrey gets DJ Moore,
first round wide receiver.
Derek Carr already had a Mari Cooper.
They get him.
J. Nelson.
gift, gift, gift, gift, gift.
And Tom Brady, at his practices, name tags.
He doesn't know the name of his receivers.
Tom Brady for 15 years now has been the best player in the league.
He is the only star quarterback in this league who takes pay cuts every single contract.
And he looks around and goes, waitress, waitress, everybody's coffee cups getting filled up.
A little over here, please.
folks, if you were the best person in the world at what you did and you were willing to take pay cuts to benefit your company, wouldn't you want to see the reward for it?
Don't tell me the Super Bowl is the reward.
Tom's the one getting you there.
He's the one carrying that receiving core there.
He's the one carrying those Rex Burke heads there.
He's the one carrying that defense that couldn't stop a cold there.
He's looking around the league.
New England's never drafted a wide receiver once in the first round.
We saw the reports this weekend that Alex was on the team playing,
which he wasn't for the second half of last year, I guess, not on the sideline.
Is that accurate?
Yeah, he was with me this last week, so it was, yeah.
What changed in him not being on the team playing last year and this year?
You know, I don't want to, I'm not getting into all that.
Okay, when I ran in him at the Super Bowl last year, Minneapolis,
and I talked to him there, he had said in his opinion that all this stuff had been
overblown that he and Belichick actually had a pretty good relationship,
even then.
Would you say that was true?
I said I don't want to get into it.
Okay.
Go ahead, Evan.
Yeah.
I mean, everyone knows it's well documented how, you know, the work that he and I do together.
No, I know.
No, yeah, no, I understand that.
They kept pressing.
He answered the question.
Then he revisited it.
And everybody today is like, oh, the theatrics for time.
Tom Brady.
Folks, are you driving to work or watching this show right now?
Do you feel like you're a really good employee?
Have you taken a pay cut?
Well, when you take a pay cut and you're carrying franchises year after year,
and you're watching Jared Gop and Derek Carr,
and you're watching Minnesota pay Stefan Diggs a fortune,
rush to pay him 40 million guaranteed,
and you won't pay Danny Amandola a buck 50.
And you can't figure out quite why Tom's a little upset.
and this just isn't about Brady
this is about anybody in America
man, woman, or teenager
if you are carrying an organization,
never forget, Belichick was fired before Brady
and was 5 and 11 in New England before Brady
and you're carrying this puppy for 15 years
don't tell me his wife's a supermodel
he can afford a pay cut. It's about respect.
It's about respect.
You know, Aaron Rogers said
R-E-L-A-X. How about R-E-S-P-E-E-S-P-E-E-E-E-E-S-E-E-E-E-E-E-S-E.
E-C-T.
I'm taking pay cuts here.
Everybody's getting a refill in their coffee.
Tom's like, hello, waitress over here.
Nope, nope, sorry. Danny M. Andola. We can't afford a nickel to keep him.
Yeah, Brady's ticked off. Do you blame him?
All the headlines. Oh, the theatrics. Oh, the...
His coach won't give him a heads up in a Super Bowl.
They won't add anything.
Have you noticed what Atlanta, Matt Ryan, Big Ben,
Juju Smith-Schuster, Breeze, they're drafting running backs, Alvin Kamara, wide receivers.
These teams just keep spending top picks year after year on receivers and backs and left tackles.
Good God.
I mean, it's just unbelievable.
Look at the weapons added this year to the star quarterback.
This is for my television audience.
on top of the weapons they have, and they won't pay Danny Allendola.
I'm going to make an argument right now is that because Julian Edelman's not playing in September,
in September without Edelman, New England's got the worst wide receiving core in the league.
You keep talking about the Cowboys.
Alan Hearns would be their best player right now on the perimeter.
You ought to be kidding me.
They die for Cole Beasley in September.
So congratulations.
Eli Manning is now 3-0 against Tom, 2-0 in Super Bowl.
and 1-0 in the 2018 off-season.
He gets Pat Shermer, Nate Solder for the next four years,
Sequin Barclay for the next four years.
Good Lord.
He has every right to hang up on people.
Tony Gonzalez would never hang up on anybody,
unlike Tom Brady.
I am defending Brady today.
Tony Gonzalez joining us.
17 years missed two games stud.
Oh, geez.
Have you ever hung up on anybody?
in an interview?
No.
You didn't like Whitlock when he covered you, though.
No, I couldn't stand him.
He's not a likable guy.
Just playing.
I love old Whitlock.
He's my man.
No, I mean, I go back to this thing, though.
Like, money, obviously money matters,
and then you get to a point when you're like Tom, Brady,
where Peyton Manning, whatever.
But there is something about, it's weird about guys.
I can't speak for women on this, Joy.
And in fact, you'd be an interesting one asking this because professionally.
But men often judge themselves on paycheck
and professional success.
And when Tom T keeps taking pay cuts, and they keep asking him to make Danny Amandola great,
and Goff gets another weapon, and Mahomes gets another weapon, and Eli gets weapons,
I can see Tom thinking, okay, I'm taking pay cuts, Belichick had a losing record before me and got
fired.
Can you get me a first one?
Can you draft the Calvin Johnson once for me?
Isn't that a respect thing?
No, well, come on.
I hear what you're saying here, and I saw the segment before I came on.
If I'm the organization, if I'm Bill Belichick and Kraft and all those people,
why would I go out and pay top dollar for any receiver?
You don't need a big-time receiver when you have this type of quarterback, a Peyton Manning type quarterback.
So you're punishing Tom for being great.
Yes, I'm going to punish you because I'm going to surround you with an offensive line,
with defensive players, with that whole team that gets us to the AFC championship every year.
Remember the first three Super Bowls?
He didn't have big-name receivers.
Tom Brady will make somebody great.
First of all, he's got the, you know, tied in, arguably,
the best tied in the league, Grankowski.
Julian Edwin will be back there after the first four games.
Philip Dorset, I got a feeling he's going to come out and play really, really well.
I think the Wes Welker, remember Wes Welker's career before he got to the New England Patriots?
You didn't even know who he was.
Now he went there and he plays with a guy like Tom Brady.
He's going to make him a star.
And that's what they do.
That's why this organization is so good.
I wouldn't do it either.
Tom, I know you're upset, but you're really good.
And you'll be okay.
You'll make somebody famous and let us build this team like we always do.
And go to the AFC championship again and maybe go get another Super Bowl.
Have you noticed what they're paying wide receivers this offseason?
It's incredible, Tony.
I honestly think I honestly think I was telling Joy this yesterday that because the catch rule is being flipped,
that that's at least one catch a game, 512 games they should.
year will there be 500 catches that are allowed that were disallowed and many of those will be
touchdowns and also the helmet rule is going to be automatic first down for offenses i almost
feel like those two rule changes are really pro offense especially pro receive if i'm a receiver
now you cannot i mean good luck is a safety coming downhill and hitting me you could be thrown out of a game
yeah jalen ramses had that the other day goes people are going for knees now because you can't go upstairs
So, I mean, I cannot believe what they're paying wide receivers.
Would you pay O'Dell Beckham what he just made?
Well, yeah, if you're paying top-notch quarterbacks $30 million,
a top-notch receivers should be worth $20 million.
Really?
Don't you think?
I mean, Kirk Cousins is getting whatever it is, 30.
Yeah, but Kirk touches the ball 64 times a game.
I'm, I don't know.
I'm still going to give a big receiver,
especially someone like O'Dell Beckham,
who is one of the top three receivers in the league,
whatever, you can make that argument, whatever you want.
Julio, Antonio Brown, Andre Hopkins.
You got to pay those guys between $17 and $20 million.
Now, if you're giving quarterbacks, that's a $10 million difference.
That's, you're telling me he's not worth that.
But here's what I think he is.
Give me your career in your seven prime years, what were your catches and touchdowns?
I was always consistent through about 14 years.
What was it, basically?
It was probably around 78 catches a year.
And six touchdowns?
And yeah, six touchdowns.
And you block.
Yeah, I blocked.
What were you largely making?
Now, I know it was, but it's not like you retired 30 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, five years ago.
What was your $6 million a year, seven?
No, not quite that much.
The most I ever made, and I can say this because it's public record.
Right, right, right.
It was 7.7.
Okay, so there you go.
Yeah.
So that's that you were blocking 75 catches, great in the room, never hurt ever.
Yeah.
I would have no problem paying that.
You're talking about Odell Beckham's been hurt.
He's not necessarily team guy and his biggest games.
Generally, Tony, and I don't have the numbers in front of me,
if I go to your 20 biggest games in your career, did you win 15 of them?
If I said, Tony, your 20 biggest games, how often did your team win the game?
I think we won.
All of them.
Yeah.
Okay.
Beckham's 19 biggest games, they're 7 and 12.
Uh-huh.
Your games gave me double use.
What are you going to do, Colin?
What are you going to do, though?
Are you going to give?
What do you?
Do you don't want to pay him then?
Just let him go?
Just let him walk out the door?
Because he's going to get that from somebody.
Somebody's going to pay.
Okay, but I don't.
So, that's somebody else's salary cap.
I would rather, I'm saying, I'm not anti-Odell,
but I start looking around this league.
I mean, good Lord, at some point,
Brandon Cooks has to win games for a team, doesn't he?
Sammy Watkins had a catch last week.
It's just third team.
I get it.
But you just...
You have to pay him.
I don't think you have a choice.
And if you look, I just go off the scale.
And this is something that frustrated me.
You just were naming off my stats.
And as a tight end, it's even worse.
Like, I'm not going to get anything close to that.
What does Gronk make?
Eight million?
You know what tight ends are?
Nine million?
You guys are the comedians of entertainment.
So an actor comes in and largely reads somebody else's,
memorizes somebody else's words.
A comedian, and by the way, it's on tape.
You can cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.
A comedian writes his own stuff, has to perform it live.
He screws up a word and a joke.
The joke does it.
But an actor makes way more than a comedian.
The tight ends have to block.
You never miss games.
Your great games were wins.
80 and 6.
And you're making one quarter of a receiver.
I would have hated wide receivers.
I couldn't stand them.
I still can't stand them.
Especially the rules nowadays, too.
like you got back to that.
These numbers are just going to go up even more because of the rules.
Now, I went to the Buffalo Cincinnati game this past Sunday and going over the middle,
these guys can't hit anymore.
I was like that back in the day would have been a kill shot.
And the guys go across the guy, I don't care.
You're not going to hit me.
Go ahead and hit me.
I mean, you don't have to hit people's knees, though.
I will say that.
I don't care what Rams.
Well, where can I hit you?
Hit me right here.
Hit me in my thigh.
I used to tell guys before the game, I bet you look, don't hit me.
Stay off my knees.
and I promise I won't embarrass you.
Don't hit my knees.
You used to say that to people.
Before the game would even start.
I'd bag, all the DBs, especially as I got all.
I'd like, come here, let me talk to you.
Before the game.
Before the game.
On the field, I would say, hey, let's just stay off my knees.
You can hit me as hard as you want.
Do not hit me in my knees, please.
Because Marcus Lee, Marcus Lee in Jacksonville, you go low like that.
I mean, you just, I feel so bad for that kid.
Because that didn't have to happen.
Hit him up high.
Hit him in his chest.
Be a man.
Hit him in the chest.
Joy's just shaking her head at that.
So Tony Gonzalez, 6-5.
I mean, no, I hear what he's saying?
The knee injuries are the worst, but what are they supposed to do?
They're already like, don't hit him in the head.
Don't leave with your head.
Lead with your elbow.
Don't hit the knees.
Tony's so many body parts you can tackle.
Tony's 6-5-260, bench presses Rhode Island.
Here, just hit me in this thigh area.
Are we good on that?
Yeah, like you're fast and talented,
and I'll just hit you in that little thigh area just to make sure.
Okay, pre-season.
Does it matter at all?
To 90% of the league, no, it doesn't not matter.
It's for those little bubble guys that are trying to make the team, the guys that,
because most of it's, it's literally for five guys on the team.
That's what preseason for.
Five guys on the team.
Do you remember ever playing with a player that literally you didn't know,
and you saw in preseason and went, oh, my God, like the preseason literally made his career,
gave him an opportunity, a low draft pick?
Yes.
And that does happen for now we're going even lower.
One guy.
That may be one guy.
I remember I played with, you probably won't remember his name.
His name's Eric Hicks.
He came in, he played defensive end.
He actually ended up starting for us.
He was undrafted, kind of a smaller guy, ended up, made the team, and then put on a bunch
of weight and it worked his way into a start.
It was one of those stories of where you come in and you have no business making the
team.
Like you're probably not going to make the team.
And then you end up making a team.
And you feel so happy.
for those guys. He was so good in preseason.
He was making plays and the coaches liked him, but that's one guy.
Otherwise, the draft picks are going to make the team.
The guys who started last year are going to make the team.
Their backups are probably going to make a team.
There's a couple of bubble guys that need to do what they need to do to make the team again.
But really, there's going to be, it's honestly, you don't need, I miss preseason, I think twice in my career.
First game I showed up the first time, my fifth year, I held out a camp and showed up.
I had five, six catches first game, 85 yards, a touchdown.
My last year, 17th year in the league, I didn't show up to camp, and I still, you know, had Pro Bowl numbers.
It doesn't affect the majority of the guys on the team.
It's just for those five guys that the coaches feel like they need to evaluate.
Good seeing you, man.
Good seeing you.
You could be a regular now.
We're going to see more of Tony Gonzalez.
Car shopping's confusing.
A lot of terms, dealer price, list price.
Here's what's not.
Saving three grand off MSRP, Truecar.com.
Check out True Price on True Car.
Joy with the news.
Oh, I got to take a break.
Hell.
I don't even know where I'm at.
Sorry about that, Joy.
I just set you up.
This segment's been 20.
I had a little panic there for a second.
I'm like, I don't know.
It's a 24-minute segment.
Let me read another spot.
Patrick Mahomes is around the corner.

So, all right, Patrick Mahomes.
You know, I said before the season started, Joy, I said,
we're all going to pay attention to Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson.
We're going to pay attention those guys.
But if you consider Patrick Mahomes a rookie, because he didn't play last year,
so really it says, you know, he played like week 16, week 17.
Like, he's really, to a large degree, he's a rookie.
And, you know, it's like he's the one ready to play.
Patrick Mahomes didn't have to play much as a rookie, which is a huge gift as we take 21-year-old Sam Donald and start.
And we take Josh Allen for the bills and start.
And joining us via the Coward Global Satellite Network, it is Patrick Mahomes.
All right, you're the guy now.
Last year, Patrick, you just sat and watched Alex Smith.
He's the veteran.
You're the young kid.
And now it's your team.
Okay, when you go to bed at night, is it restless sleep?
Is there a little anxiety?
You're a franchise quarterback.
How's it been different in camp?
Yeah, I mean, it's really been awesome.
Just being able to get all the reps.
I learned a ton last year from Alex.
He taught me kind of a blueprint on how to have a lot of success in this league.
And now I'm trying to make it my own, trying to make my own kind of schedule and plan in order to have a lot of success this season going forward.
Now, Alex and you are different players.
Now, you're both athletic guys.
He can really run.
He's got great speed when he gets out running.
You've got the bigger arm.
Andy Reed goes out and gets you Sammy Watkins.
You already had Tyreek Hill.
Is it fair to say that you like the deep pass more?
You got a little big band, a little Cam Newton.
You like the home run a little more.
Yeah, I mean, definitely.
I mean, as a quarterback, you like to throw touchdowns.
I mean, I just like to stretch the field and throw it deep a lot.
The thing that I have to learn and I'm learning this preseason,
went on and hopefully I can minimize the mistakes as this season goes on is you have to
kind of pick and choose when to throw that deep ball. And I learned, I think, the Falcons game
and I threw the interception when I was trying to force it deep. But then you kind of come back
later on in the game and you throw a deep pass to Tyreek and score touchdown. So just picking
and choosing when to utilize the deep ball. Did Alex talk about not just football with you,
but being a franchise quarterback? Did he ever sit you down? You guys go out and have beer and say,
listen, it's not just about football. You are now
representing a billion-dollar organization. Did you guys ever talk about that stuff?
No, I mean, not necessarily talk about it, but just the way Alex handled himself was a kind of
a thing I could watch as I went through this entire last season. I mean, we went out to dinner
and ate with each other's girlfriend and his wife. And I mean, just to be able to be around him
and see how he handled himself was a huge thing to help me learn of just how you have to do
and how you have to be to have success in this league.
Listen, the NFL is confusing.
You're doing the hardest thing in America in sports to do, be a successful starting quarterback.
I mean, even I can shoot a basketball.
I've hit a baseball before, but to sit behind the line, is it at times overwhelming, the multiple audibles, the changing defenses?
Would you have been able to be, could you have started last year, or do you feel like you needed the year?
Yeah, I mean, as a competitor, I feel like if I would have got out there, I could have.
have made a lot of things to work. But when you look back at it now, I see how much
advanced, how much far ahead I am just from one year of just sitting back and learning and seeing
how you have to operate in this offense. It is a complex offense. And I feel like I'm on a whole
different book, not a different chapter, but a whole different book than where I was at at the beginning
of last year. Listen, you got all these speed guys on the outside. Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins,
but I think you have the best tied end in football. I think because he's healthier than Gronke,
he's better, Travis Kelsey.
How do you make sure you don't ignore the tight end when you have all these home run hitters on the outside?
I mean, you can't ignore that guy.
That guy is open every single time he's in the right spot.
And I think the biggest thing with him is he kind of played the quarterback position growing up.
And he knows how to be on the same page as you on every single route.
I mean, he'll break off a route in ways that you're not supposed to in the theoretical book part of it.
But he'll break off and you throw it to him right on time because that's where it's supposed to be at.
And I feel like just having that kind of safety blanket, the guy who can make big plays on his own,
but at the same time just be in the right spot is something that will help me a ton this year.
What is Andy Reid do?
Every quarterback that plays for Andy succeeds.
Okay.
What is Andy Reid's gift?
What is it that makes him special?
I think it's just a combination of how relatable and how he can understand and explain stuff to you,
but at the same time push you to be better every single day.
I mean, he wants you to get the best out of every single restaurant.
up every single play, every single film study. But at the same time, he can explain and do those
things to you in order for you to have a ton of success. And he really utilizes your strengths,
no matter what quarterback it is, and put you in the right situation for you to make the place.
Your strength is your arm. Do you have a weakness? What do you need to work on?
Yeah, I mean, you used to keep getting better within the offense. I mean, that's the biggest thing.
I mean, when you're a young quarterback or when you're a veteran guy, you want to make sure you
master the offense where you can really dissect the defense. And I mean, that's the biggest.
That just comes with reps, comes with just studying off the field, a film study, and going through your playbook, whatever it takes in order to have a full understanding of what Coach Reed and what the coaches want from you and what you have to do to utilize to have success.
What young quarterback, whether it's a rookie or a Carson Wentz, like in the last five or six years, has there been a young quarterback that you really like his style that you think you look like?
I don't know if there's a quarterback that I play exactly like.
I mean, I look back at kind of when Matthew Stafford first came out, just how he would be able to kind of make plays.
And whenever stuff wasn't there, he could kind of use his arm in different angles to make some throws.
But I try to take a lot of stuff from different people, the best things they do and try to make it my own in order to have my own type of style.
By the way, I saw you make a throw.
Ball was in the air, I think, 79, 80 yards.
If I just said, you know, let's just make a bet.
Stand at the goal line and throw it.
And I give you a little bit of a running start.
Stand at the goal line.
I know you've done this at least once in your life at college or something.
How far can you throw it in the air?
The furthest I ever threw it in college was 83 yards,
but I had a little bit of wind at my back.
I had a little bit of wind in my back.
But I like to say that I can get it anywhere from 80 to 85 yards depending on the day.
God, Lord.
That is incredible.
Well, with Tyree Kill, you'll have those opportunities more than once.
Hey, good luck to you.
You are an amazing talent.
You have looked good so far, and I cannot wait to watch with all those weapons.
Thanks, man.
Yeah, I appreciate you having me.
You bet, Patrick Mahomes.
83 yards.
83 yards.
Go to a football field.
Let's round it up to 85 yards.
You don't think you could do that?
Oh, God, no.
In high school, I think I threw it 47.
and I'm not kidding you,
I had a crystal bath after that.
I mean, I celebrated for weeks after that.
And I'm not that much smaller than...
I'm 6-2-195.
That is an absurd.
I bet you Brady can't throw over 63.
60.
I don't even know if Brady can throw 60.
That is absurd.
All right.
Is it time for the news now?
Yes.
Okay, Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So Alex Carrero's relationship with Tom Brady and the Patriots is a little interesting storyline this year.
And unsurprisingly, Bill Belichick was the next to be quizzed about it.
Tom Brady hung up yesterday.
And during his Belichick's weekly radio, he had this to say.
Yeah, no, he's not a member of the organization.
He works at TV 12.
I think we're all aware of that.
Well, he have people in our traveling party.
Some are in the organization.
most are and some aren't we have people in various capacities that work with us on game day
and again it's i mean every team has that you know so we have that too you need some extra people on
game day in a video department um as you mentioned other there could be especially uh people in medical
staff uh security and so forth so you know we have other people that are not some are full-time
some are let's again call it game day type employees uh because of just a higher demand in certain areas on
game back. That's the longest answer
Belichick's ever given to anything.
That's for considering what they
were talking about, Joy, like the Guerrero
thing, that was a comprehensive answer.
Yeah, he usually would be like,
yeah, Brady hung up. Do you think he's
funny? I don't think Belichick's
remotely funny. Sabin makes me laugh.
But people say that Belichick has
a big personality when he's not
talking to the media. By the way, we did that
Sabin thing. Let me check real quick.
It's a poll. I never do these polls, but we
I think we do about one a year. Hold on.
I'm going to check right now.
So here's what our poll is saying.
Is Saban funny or go?
Oh my God. I'm getting crushed.
Yes.
That's not surprising to me.
62% of people think Saban's grumpy.
The question is, is Saban funny or grumpy?
Yeah. It's 62.38 right now.
He's bumpy.
That's okay, though.
I mean, he's a winner.
Maybe Belichick was making up for Brady hanging up.
And Belichick thought, I got to diffuse this crap.
because now we got ourselves a controversy.
Is that possible that happened?
Maybe.
This whole thing really should just...
It's really silly.
It's just not the way things are anymore.
Guys have their own trainers.
They do their own routines in the offseason.
This is not coming to training camp and get in shape anymore.
And they have their own brands and their own people.
That's okay.
And Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time.
He can have his own trainer.
Yes.
It's really going to be all right.
All right.
So the Eagles made a couple of additions to their locker room.
off season after winning the Lombardi trophy, and one of them is a sign that reads Super Bowl 52
champions, and it's a picture of the trophy. Malcolm Jenkins told reporters that he'd prefer not
to see that daily reminder. He said, I hate it personally. I'm well beyond celebrating last
year's accomplishments because they don't mean anything this year. It's not boxing where we get to
hold the belt and somebody has to come and beat us and take it. We're at the bottom, just like
everybody else. I love Malcolm Jenkins. That's a great quote, and he's right. This is a big reason
why it's so hard to repeat as Super Bowl champions because you
you keep most of the team intact obviously and there's a certain
sense of you know complacency last year they were the underdog
and they had the dog masks and everyone you know was rooting for them
and it was this great storyline and they got their backup quarterback there's so many
things going on taking down the dynasty and Tom Brady
you guys are the ones everyone's gunning for now it's
I mean he might say that he's at he's at the bottom because that's his
mentality it's the right mentality to have though
You're starting over.
Yeah.
No, I love that.
Last year doesn't matter.
That's how the Patriots do it every year.
Yeah.
So finally, in March, a video service of O'Dell in Paris sitting on a bed with a model and a box of pizza and some other things.
Look like a soccer star.
That's what you see soccer stars do regularly.
We're not used to our NFL guys being in Paris with a pizza, supermodel and a substance.
That felt very international soccer star to me.
Did it?
Yeah.
And had that feel to it?
Well, around the same time, Odell claimed he wanted to become one of the NFL's,
highest paid players and the Giants were fielding trade offers for his services.
Yeah. So in a recent feature, ESPN's Seth Wickersham dropped this little tidbit.
One curious club hired a private investigator to track Beckham.
I was told that.
The Paris video had introduced drug use rumors. The team wanted to run down, even if recreational
drug use falls below his surgically repaired angle on most team's list of concerns.
But the P.I's report set off no alarms.
I heard that story.
I would imagine this happens a lot more than people think.
Yep.
I think this happens with high draft picks.
What deteriorates talent faster than anything?
Drug use.
Injuries and drug use.
I can see the injuries, but I can't.
I mean, if I said to you, oh, there's this really great attorney and he went downhill, you'd be like, oh, drug use.
I mean, what else would it be?
He didn't get dumb.
He was not one day a great litigator.
and the next day a bad litigator.
Like drug use is something, because I can see the other stuff.
I can see an injury.
Drug use ruins a lot of lives and careers.
And when you saw that picture, if I'm a GM, I'm like,
I'm okay with the pizza of the model in the late night.
That powdery stuff I'm not okay with.
Well, it's good that nothing came up.
And I never imagined that O'Dell was the one who was involved in that
because he's been performing up until his injury at a high level.
But this whole follow.
guys thing. It seems very
I mean, it is a private investigator.
It's sketchy and weird to imagine
that someone's following you and you don't know about it.
But they're investing a lot of money in these guys.
So I'm sure that this happens a lot.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herd Lye News.
Coming up next, best for last,
three words to describe every
NFC team.
One more herd? The herd streams
24 hours a day, seven days a week
within the I-Hart Radio app. Search Hurd
to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like.
All right.
Car shopping's confusing.
A lot of terms.
Dealer price, list price, invoice.
Here's what's not.
Save three grand off MSRP.
We do it every day at this time.
Best for last.
After almost three hours,
Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point yet.
Quit holding out on us, cowherd.
It's the best for last.
Okay, we did it yesterday with the AFC.
We'll do it with the NFC.
You can describe every team in three.
words. Let's start with the NFC East Philadelphia. Super Foles Hangover. To me, Nick Foles has been
garbage in the preseason. Carson Wentz is still hurt. They've been banged up, didn't have any of
their running backs or Alshan Jeffries. Listen, Philadelphia's well run from the top down, and they
have tremendous line play. They will be very good. But folks, New England's not one in Super
Bulls back to back. Their division's tough with Dallas better.
New York Giants added an elite offensive mind, left tackle, running back, O'Dell signed.
Let's go to Dallas.
Don't doubt DAC.
For all the DAC criticism, folks, his first two years in the league, he started as a rookie.
He's won 22 at 32 games, and of the remaining 10, five have been one possession.
The NFC is better than the AFC.
This division has produced a Super Bowl champion in the two years he's been starting.
The kid can play.
I think he's better addition by subscription, subtraction with Des Bryant out.
He's better when he can mix the ball around, spray it around the infield, seven or eight targets.
He's 14 and 2 and he's had eight or more targets.
Don't doubt, Dak.
New York, OBJ.
Real simple.
He is now highest paid wide receiver in the league.
Eli Manning is clearly better when he's healthy.
He is theatrical.
He is outspoken.
He can be energizing.
But it's kind of his franchise.
He's the most popular player.
He's the most disgust player.
And he's now the highest paid player.
And there's going to be media pressure on him constantly.
And he's either going to make it or break it this year.
Because if he goes down or if he goes into theatrics,
it's going to affect everybody on that team.
Finally, Washington, fourth place finisher.
Listen, Sean McVeigh left.
They've never quite been the same offense.
Now, they were injury riddled last year,
but they've already drafted a running back and he is hurt.
I like Alex Smith, but I don't think they're the same team without Sean McVeigh,
and I look at their talent and everybody else's,
and I think it's a fourth-place team.
Not a bad fourth-place team.
Could be the league's best fourth-place team, but it's a fourth-place team.
Chicago, let's go to the NFC North.
Tribisky or Fallsbrisky?
I don't buy the kid yet.
Never had a two touchdown game.
I think Chicago's got some nice elements.
They've got a nice linebacking crew, one of the better in the NFC.
But I didn't think he should be a number one pick.
I wouldn't have traded up to draft him.
I'd go false-biskey.
Green Bay, Aaron and out.
They still don't have a running game.
They still don't retain their good offensive linemen.
They've upgraded at Corner.
They got him Jimmy Graham.
This is still Aaron Rogers team.
They looked like the Cleveland Browns last year when he got hurt.
Minnesota, miracle, no more.
They got a lot of breaks last year.
They were really healthy on defense.
Aaron Rogers got hurt.
Bears were starting a rookie.
Now they've got a first place schedule.
Pat Schumer's gone.
They'll be good, not great.
And Detroit, the doormats.
Matt Patricia, Matt Stafford.
I mean, Belichick's coordinators don't work.
They don't work.
Even the good one, Josh McDaniel.
They don't work his head coaches.
Let's go to the NFC South, Carolina.
No Camdo.
Listen, it's a precision league.
He has looked better in preseason.
Christian McCaffrey's popped in the preseason,
but in a division where I have Breeze and Matt Ryan
and really good offensive coaches for both, no camdo.
New Orleans, Drew and crew, pretty easy to sum up.
He's got two great years left.
They'll go as far as Drew can take him.
Tampa Bay, walking the plank.
James Winston, Dirk Cutter.
I think the owner's questioning both.
In Atlanta, Ryan under radar.
I think Atlanta right now is my pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Sark and Matt Ryan's second year.
They've made upgrades defensively.
It is a top five offensive line.
Let's go to the NFC West.
Legion of Doom.
I know everybody loved it.
I know everybody loves Seattle.
Offensive lines in total rebuild.
Outside of Doug Baldwin, no great perimeter players.
They drafted a receiver, excuse me, a running back in the first round, probably a reach.
And Earl Thomas isn't happy.
Richard Sherman has gone.
So is Michael Bennett.
A lot of politics, a lot of talking.
Yap, yap, yap.
It just doesn't feel like an optimistic locker room to me.
Arizona, this is mean, but Bradford hurt yet?
Listen, the weakness of the teams, the offensive line, and Sam Bradford has a history.
I don't have to embellish.
Josh Rosen will play this year.
Like it or not.
Los Angeles, rambunctious roster reformation.
It's almost like they are working with a different bank than every other team.
They're just paying people massive gobs of money.
I think if you count kicker and punner, it's the best roster in the league.
I think it's the best roster in the league.
I don't know where they have a weakness.
They're not great at linebacker.
And they got All-Stars everywhere on this roster.
And San Francisco, Garoppolo on Topolo.
I think for the next 10 years, San Francisco is going to make a run at multiple NFC championships and Super Bowl titles.
For Joy Taylor and the crew, see you tomorrow on a Wednesday in L.A. It's the Hurd.
