Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Turn someday into right now with Body by Jake Radio, nonstop workout music and expert tips 24-7. Hey, head over to iHeart.com. Starting point is 00:01:24 Body by Jake Radio, where hope meets momentum. Search Body by Jake Radio and stream it for free. Have a great day. Hi heart radio. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend, and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers.
Starting point is 00:01:51 We also love sports. And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The volume. What is going on, everybody, John Middilkoff, and a little go-low podcast. Here's the deal.
Starting point is 00:02:34 We have separated the golf podcast from the football podcast. We've been cross-pollinating them, and I said, you know what, let's separate it. So we have a, this is a new audio feed. We have a YouTube channel that is just going to be golf. We're going to separate the two. So today, this is going to, I'm technically on vacation this week. Vacation will be strong. I'm at home with my child and my wife.
Starting point is 00:02:58 But I was like, you know what? Lots happened. So let's just record a podcast, a go-lo podcast. Anthony Kim, Rory Scottie, Tiger spoke today, some rib bets for the weekend. But that will be the game plan today. But this is the podcast or this is the feed where all the golf content is going to live. So and the YouTube channel is just type in go low, my name, and that will pop up as well.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I'm going to try to do some on-course videos throughout the summer. If I ever get back to the golf course again, please, God, get me back. But, yeah, so that will be the game plan. We will also do mailbag questions, not today, but. but at Golopod, at Golopod is the Instagram. So I have a separate Instagram account just from my normal Instagram account because that's where people for football stuff, and I try to separate it out.
Starting point is 00:03:55 So at Golopod will be my Instagram, fire in those DMs, anything golf related. And we will answer them here throughout the year. And the game plan will be, we'll just start banging out these podcasts moving forward throughout the golf season. I'll be in Indianapolis next week for the Combine, so I'll have to figure out if I do a RIV reaction. Might do one Sunday afternoon. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:04:23 I got some family coming in town, but that's a fluid situation. But at Golopod will be the Instagram. This is the audio feed. And let's talk Anthony Kim. I did not expect to start with this, but Tiger Woods was asked about it this morning and gave a pretty, I thought, powerful response, a well-thought-out response.
Starting point is 00:04:44 And I think he, you know, kind of summed up what we all were thinking. It was a pretty powerful moment watching Anthony Kim. And for some of you that live on the East Coast, it happened in the middle of the night. For me, I think he finished at like 1130. Now, granted, when you have a, you know, four-and-a-half week old, you don't sleep much. So it was right in my wheelhouse. I was laying there in bed. I saw on social media, flipped it on.
Starting point is 00:05:10 and watched the last several holes, it was electric. It was awesome. And I think on the most basic level, before we dive into the contacts and everything, it was just a really cool, pure moment. And I know we did a deal last year with Liv. It was cool going to the tournament with Colin.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I mean, Kepka came up and talked to us. And when you're at the event, you know, you got ROM walking around, Bryson walking around, Phil walking around, DJ. you know, very prominent players. The in-person experience is cool. I've never, the events don't matter. Like, winning those events for Brooks Kepka or Bryce,
Starting point is 00:05:50 it doesn't mean anything, right? And clearly fans aren't consuming it in terms of viewers. But, like, there is no disputing. I mean, Bryson and Rom are two of the best four or five players in the world. And that's what made Anthony Kim's win so incredible. He was paired with those guys at an event which is clearly the signature event of the live tour
Starting point is 00:06:15 they're getting like 100,000 people on given days and it was packed and he fucking drubbed him Anthony Kim on I mean it was Saturday for us but Sunday for them because they're playing four rounds shot nine under Bryson shot two over and ROM shot wonder
Starting point is 00:06:34 he beat Bryson by 11 strokes He beat Rom by eight. He was five down to start the day. He boat raced him both. So to me, part of the moment was clearly his comeback. You look at his face. You can see cocaine destroyed his nose. His addiction, which he has been very open about.
Starting point is 00:06:56 I mean, he had not played competitive golf for almost 15 years. And like Tiger talked about, he remembered when he broke on the scene, Tiger was playing against him. Kid was a rocket ship. And he was electric in terms of emotion. And let's face it, like, I was listening to No Laying Up podcast. And one of their guys was saying, he's like, I watched Scotty shoot like 9 under and barely showed any emotion. Like, didn't give a shit.
Starting point is 00:07:23 You watch Rory and Scotty, Birdie, and Eagle Hole. It's just pretty unfazed most of these events. Colin Moracawa shoots 10 under on Saturday. It's like, yeah, pro golf or whatever. And let's face it, most of these guys. in this day and age are so filthy rich, the emotion in a lot of these events, non-majors or Ryder Cup,
Starting point is 00:07:45 aren't exactly tiger fist pumping all over the place. And I kind of miss that. It's why I've said forever, whenever this re-emergence comes of these tours, Patrick Reed coming back is great for business. You need some villains. Bring Terrell Hatton back. Bring, you know, some of the crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:04 You can't have everyone just all smiles, all good guys. it becomes kind of boring. It's one thing the NBA has lost. When I was a kid, they had a lot of major wildcards who at any given moment could do some crazy shit.
Starting point is 00:08:19 The NBA had nut jobs. It was great for business. You know why? Because people cared. People came in to see what is Rashid Wallace going to do today. What do you think Dennis Rodman's going to do tonight?
Starting point is 00:08:34 Now everyone's filthy rich. It's so corporate, You can't even get like a controversial statement out of anybody. It's like that's kind of boring. You need some curveballs. The NFL, luckily, because of the nature of the sport, is going to have some crazy guys. And golf, like part of the live, you know, fracture, it took away the villains. And Anthony Kim, by no means, was a villain, but he was like this mysterious figure who just disappears,
Starting point is 00:09:03 who was a guy on rider cups, on president's cups, who was. was just an electric factory from a viewer standpoint and it was just gone and doesn't come back till his late 30s and you see him it's clear like the demons do not hide when you look at his face and he does not hide from them and for him to play against these guys and i mean he was just making put after putt after putt going nuts with fist pumps and putting his arms up it was like you just felt something emotionally and one thing if sports are not moving you emotionally they They're just going to lose people, right? And I think golf has always battled with that.
Starting point is 00:09:42 It's a niche sport. And that's one thing Tiger brought to the table. Emotionally, you always felt his presence, especially when things were going well. And I watched this last night again, can't sleep because there is no sleep in my home anymore, which maybe one day it'll come back around, is I watch Rick Shields,
Starting point is 00:10:02 who I think is like the original golf YouTuber. He was an international guy from the UK, I think. He did a deal a couple years ago with Liv, and he's played with all these guys. And last year, he played with Anthony Kim. Now, it was like an hour-long YouTube video of them playing 18 holes, I think in Hong Kong, where I think Liv's playing next. And it was just, Anthony Kim said something in that video that I thought was pretty interesting. He's like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:10:27 I bet I'm a momentum player. Like, when things get going, I can ride the wave. Like, Scottie Schaeffler to me, is not a momentum player. He's just a dominant player. Like at any given moment, he can just make a bunch of birdies. A bogey doesn't derail him. He's unfazed by the ups and downs of a golf tournament. It's why he's always there at the end.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Whether he starts slow or starts fast, it's inevitable how it's going to go. I would say like Tommy Fleetwood. A lot of these are not momentum player. Rory's a momentum guy. Phil Mickelson was a momentum guy. Tiger was a lot like Scotty. He was going to keep swinging until the bitter end.
Starting point is 00:11:05 You can tell when Rory's got it going, especially early in a tournament, like hop on that wave. Anthony Kim's a lot like that. And he clearly got momentum at this course in Australia. And then he just got laser, you know, red hot. Red, you couldn't have been any hotter. Honestly, Scotty could have been in his group and he might have beat him. I mean, shoot 9 under in that environment was really impressed. He was making every put imaginable.
Starting point is 00:11:30 You never thought he was going to miss. And it was just really cool and powerful to work. watch. It was something that, let's face it, the last couple, I mean, he was shooting 80 in some of these events last year. 80, which for me and you, awesome round, for these guys, is an embarrassment. I mean, it truly is. Now, I don't think he touched the club for a long period of time in his life. And one thing he talked about with Rick Shields, and I don't think he's been sober that long. And part of the reason he got sober, because not only could he not stop drinking once he started, but it would morph into drugs.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And clearly, it's pretty, again, pretty evident that cocaine was a major drug of choice. And some of these stories come out about him essentially blowing lines back when he was playing on the PGA tour between holes at Augusta. I didn't know of that. I mean, I knew he had issues, but some of this information that has come out about his struggle at the end of his time. And this is like 2009 in 2010 was something I, I, I know. I didn't quite understand the depth of his issues. And to now come out, he's got a young daughter and he's married. And it feels like he just kind of got his shit together.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And to watch him play and play against those guys. I just don't think this, it would have been a big deal no matter what tournament he would have won on Live, if he just would have won the tournament. I think it's dramatically bigger that he's literally playing with Bryson Rump. and kick the living, you know what, out of him. Anne had to come storm. It's not like he had the lead, and those guys were chasing. He was down, and he boat-raced them both.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Honestly, embarrassed them both. And both of them, Bryson's got no fuel for the room. Like, after the event, everyone's, you know, spraying water on them, celebrating with them. Rahm even waits to give him like a hug and a handshake. Bryson sits there and like, hey, you're going to sign your scorecard? It's like, Bryson, take a deep breath, go to the clubhouse, just let him have.
Starting point is 00:13:30 have this moment for a minute, homie. You know, let's just, let's just back up. And again, Bryson, I enjoy him, and you talk about a guy who's really embraced the showman. But if it's not him, I don't think he's got a great feel because that was like, bro, back up. But it was, it's one of the more out of left field moments in a long time in golf. And a lot of people have talked about this. This is not an original thought.
Starting point is 00:14:01 But obviously the Saudis have spent a lot of money. You know, hundreds of millions of dollars on the fills, on the ROMs, on the Kepka's, on the DJs. This was, they have not had a big on the course moment yet. Like, Joaquin Neiman winning events doesn't matter, right? Rom hasn't won yet, but he finished his second, basically. It doesn't matter. Even if ROM wins every event, it's not going to matter. This mattered.
Starting point is 00:14:26 This really mattered for them. And just for the golfing world. I mean, it was a, it was the number one story last week. And even over Morikawa, who won at Pebble for the first time. You know, he hadn't won a tournament like two and a half years. He hadn't even finished, I think, in the top 10 in like almost a year. He had been kind of in the wilderness. And he's clearly when he's on, one of our best American players, better young players, for sure.
Starting point is 00:14:52 But this was the story. And it was powerful and cool to watch. It was just, there was something like, genuine about this guy, his story, coming out of the mud, coming out of the wilderness, coming out of, as he said, I could have easily been dead, easily been dead. And he's still here and he wins. And I don't know how necessarily live capitalizes on this. And hopefully he can keep playing well.
Starting point is 00:15:20 But I think this makes it a lot more intriguing of as Brian Rolap has got Kepka back, has got, you know, Patrick Reed back. Obviously, they're circling Bryson to get back at the end of this year. I think you have to look at what can we do with this guy. Is there a way that we could get this guy involved? Because if you get this guy out at waste management, at Riviera, at, you know, wherever, any of the big, I'm not even talking majors, I'm just talking about the big PJ tour events. Bay Hill, he would get, I mean, an enormous amount of support.
Starting point is 00:15:56 He'd be a rock star. He really would. And maybe he kind of likes the live situation more. Can fly into the radar a little bit, but immediately, you know, you got Tiger and Rollap. Well, let's take a look at this. And I'm not acting like he would come and just dominate. I mean, hell, Kepka almost finished DFL at Tori Pines,
Starting point is 00:16:16 and then he missed the cut at waste management. So it's a different animal. But that was extremely enjoyable as a consumer, Just as a sports story. There's no way around it. That was really, really cool. Today's show is brought to you by our presenting sponsor Hard Rock Bet, Florida's Sportsbook. I know it's tough when no football makes me sad.

Starting point is 00:18:35 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Starting point is 00:18:57 before Jonas Brothers This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:19:08 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL,
Starting point is 00:19:26 late-night comedy guy, Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in. tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchen win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now and I actually can win on any surface because
Starting point is 00:20:27 If she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Speaking of cool, on Sunday, Scottie Sheffler shot 63. He, I actually think in a weird way,
Starting point is 00:22:23 he's more impressive when he doesn't win some of these golf tournaments. Because he'll shoot like 72. I think he did that at Waste Management. His first round was 73. At Pebble, his first round was 7. And you're like, you know what? This is going to be his week where he finishes like 26th.
Starting point is 00:22:37 He's just going to have one of those weeks where it's just off. And then all of a sudden Sunday, he's making the turn, you know, to go to the back nine. And you're like, he's like three shots back. And he's five under on the day. You're like, how does he do it? And a couple of years ago, the comparisons to Tiger felt a little outrageous. It's like, come on, guys. He's not Tiger.
Starting point is 00:23:01 There are clearly Tiger qualities of this. And to me, the most, I would say similar quality that they both share is their competitive nature. Like, they just don't ever, like, I don't have it this week. I'm just going to finish 40th. I am going down swing. Remember, this was like five or six years ago. Tiger got a, I think it was a 10. Might have been at 12.
Starting point is 00:23:24 It's either 10 or 12. I think it was a, he got a 10 on hold 12 at Augusta. And he birdied after that hole. five of the next six holes. I forget who it was. I don't know if it was Marco Mira or Steve Elkington or someone like that tweeted. That is the defining characteristic of Tiger's career.
Starting point is 00:23:47 That no matter what happens at any moment from when he was young to when he's 50 years old, he never taps out. He never loses focus of like, I'm still competing. I'm still going to figure this shit out. If most people on the PGA tour, let alone just casual golfers, get a 10 on a par three, whether you're playing Augusta or whether you're playing the local muni, you probably unravel, which is human nature and very understandable.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Right? You're just like, I fuck. I'm out of it. To Bertie five of the next six holes, like defines Tiger Woods. Like, that's who he is. And to me, there's something with Scotty, like he starts the day on Sunday at Pebble. he's got no shot. All of a sudden you look up, he's Eagle 2, he's Eagle 2, he's he's eagled 6, he's just rattling off birdies.
Starting point is 00:24:35 You're like, this guy, man, this is incredible. He did the same shit at waste. It's like, oh, he just doesn't have it. Then all of a sudden on Sunday, he's roaring up the leaderboard, Bertie, Birdie, Birdie, Birdie, Eagle, and you look up, he shot 64.
Starting point is 00:24:50 And the crazy thing is, with all of his wins over the last several years, I feel like he, I texted this, to a buddy the other day. I think she easily could have like 8 to 10 more wins. I'm not, he probably doesn't think like
Starting point is 00:25:07 that. It's clearly not the way he's wired, like he ain't living in the past. But he's probably less than 15 shots here or there from having 50% more wins on the PJ tour. Like having 35 wins right now. I think he's got what, 20? Like easily having 10, who knows, maybe
Starting point is 00:25:25 15, I'm talking like a shot here or a shot there. And he wins the tournament. I mean, now, you could also argue guys like him and definitely Rory falls under this category. When he's so far out of it, like starts the day, seven back, it really frees him up. And he's the best player in the world by a mile. It's like Rory's probably the second best player in the world. And when those guys get going, I mean, Rory, way out of it, Sunday, Pebble Beach, shoot 64.
Starting point is 00:25:55 And I would say this is about Rory at Pebble. He shot 72 on Saturday with a triple and a double. So, like, he finished T-14. To me, if he just parsed those two holes, like, it's, it's, and I think he tripled hole four, which is a relatively easy hole. I did not see the highlights of what happened, but clearly it was an epic disaster.
Starting point is 00:26:22 And I think he doubled 18 that day. So to triple and double two holes where, I don't know. I mean, a lot of the field is definitely birding the hole. A large percentage of guys are birding both holes to go five under shows. And that was his first event, unlike Scotty, who's, you know, one AMX. He finished third at waist. He finished fourth at AT&T. I think the one thing the PGA tour is missing, which kind of feels inevitable,
Starting point is 00:26:53 is these two guys paired in the last round of one of these tournaments. We said it forever with Tiger and Phil, and it just never really happened. it just, it just, it kind of never came together. They were clearly the best two guys. They were clearly rivals, but they didn't have that many rivalry moments. It's like Trevino and Jack were rivals. They went head to head a lot. Now, it was a different world back in like the 60s and the 70s.
Starting point is 00:27:19 But, and clearly by the 2000s, you just had more competition. The fields were different. Now the fields have never been more different. That would be awesome. Even Liv, technically just got that with Rahm and Bryson in the last group. Now, both guys did not play well, and Anthony Kim destroyed him. But PJ Tour would gladly take just those two guys in the last group of a random tournament. It does not have to be, I mean, they don't own the majors, but, I mean, best case scenario,
Starting point is 00:27:48 it would be like a gust or the U.S. Open, those two guys pair. I'd be cool with just the memorial, just, you know, Bay Hill, just an event that, you know, you pick another big tournament. throughout the year. So I think Scotty's over under wins this year. He's already got one would probably be like four and a half. He's the heavy favorite every tournament he enters. And when the dust settles, it takes a disastrous round for him not to win the tournament.
Starting point is 00:28:19 And for him, a disastrous round is like 71, 72. Because he, I mean, it's two Sundays so far the last two weeks have been 64 and 63. Now again, like I said, you feel a little free when you're out of it, and he's so good, no pressure, he can dominate. He can shoot five under on the moon. But it's been remarkable to watch. And to me, the craziest part, and I would say this about Rory too, the drive that both these two guys have with, I mean, Scotty's probably made $100 million the last 24 months. Honestly, that number could be small. I could be low.
Starting point is 00:29:00 He is not driven by money. Completely unfazed by money. Completely unfazed by status. Because he'd like, he might just come in. Like, look at Zander. And I understand he's been banged up. Zander's made a ton of money the last couple years.
Starting point is 00:29:17 And what did he get off his back? Won some majors. You look him now, he's kind of just, whatever, ho-hum. And I'm not acting like Zander's not trying his heart. New kid. Is Andrew as focused as he was and driven as he was a couple years ago? And I wouldn't even blame him.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Like, I'm not talking shit. I'm just saying it's human nature. You look at Scotty, unfazed by his child, unfazed by his money, unfazed by his fame. It's like every week stunned if Scottie doesn't win. And I expect this about Rory too. Finally gets the monkey office back last year with the Masters, even admitted last week that, you know, didn't mail it in but wasn't quite as focused the rest of the year after that moment.
Starting point is 00:29:56 because early on he won Pebble, he won the players, he wins the Masters, like his season was kind of made then, kind of comes in, like he was ready to roll. So I think we're going to get, we know Scotty is going nowhere. I think we're going to get a big season from Rory. And now we've got to keep our fingers crossed that those two guys in a big tournament, the players, again, I would take just any random tournament they're both in, get matched up together, factor in, and we see those guys in the final group. We can only hope.
Starting point is 00:30:27 The start to the season has been a very, very good year for us, Team USA. Because Goddorup has kind of established himself. It's like I'm a major player here. And the crazy thing about him, I think he's from Jersey, he looks like he could have been a member of Tony Soprano's crew. Like he could have been hanging out with Chrissy. You know, like he's kind of a little overweight. He's got the chain.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Looks like he could delete a 12-pack in the blink of an eye. Looks like he'd be a fun hang. Hits it like 360 yards. Is open like Lee Trevino, yet he hits his like power cut. He is just, hits it really low. He's a really good player. I mean, obviously he wins the Sony Open, which is like, okay, it's impressive win.
Starting point is 00:31:12 And then to win waste, did get a little lucky that Hadeki just melted down. Really, he was atrocious that whole day off the tee, but his short game kept him in it. Ended up pumping in the pews, then pumping in the water. but ultimately Gauterup, you know, for a guy that just missed the rider cup,
Starting point is 00:31:31 you could have made the argument like Chris Gauterup should have been on the rider cup. Didn't make it, like, feels like a lock now to make the President's Cup, which is cool. Morikawa, I mean, was a guy who was running on fumes at the end of last year. It was a pretty controversial pick for the Rider Cup, which I think if you could do that over again, he wouldn't have been there.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And I was watching the Golf Channel today because Tiger talked. They had on like his swing coach and Colin was struggling on the range at the beginning of last week. And clearly figured something out on Saturday when he shot 10 under par. And to win that tournament,
Starting point is 00:32:09 the way he won it, I was watched on the plane flying at Los Angeles. The dude's hitting in the, you know, the guy ahead of him hits it into the, not in the beach, like the rocks. Like he wasn't on like sand, like beat sand. He was on like big rocks.
Starting point is 00:32:29 And it was like a 20, 30 minute delay. Morcao was sitting there in the middle of the fairway and just blast one onto the green. And yeah, I guess it was a little off the green, two puts and wins the tournament. And then announces that he's having a baby, which is like, Colin, good luck, buddy. Enjoy your sleep now. Now he's so rich, you probably have night nurse and day nanny. But regardless, Joe Judge would be like, you better get one. You got to focus.
Starting point is 00:32:53 which I agree, Joe, trust me. I would love one right now. But regardless, Morikawa winning, Goderup winning, Justin Rose winning a couple weeks ago at Tori Pines was really cool. I mean, at his age to be as good as he is, how hard he works. A lot of respect on that one, which is not great for us because he's just such a consistent member of the Ryder Cup team. Kind of feels like he might be a playing captain one day,
Starting point is 00:33:19 kind of like what Kegan could have done and probably should have done last year. It's been a very good start to the year. I mean, these are, you know, Goder Ups now, like a big-time player on the PGA tour. I mean, Moracalla is a multiple-time major winner, multiple-time Ryder Cup. I mean, he's, he should be one of our best young players. I mean, Justin Rose is, of the last, like, 20, of the Internet era, I mean, he'd be a top-10 player. Tiger Phil, Ernie's, Kepka's, Dustin Johnson's, like Jordan Speeth, like Justin Rose is on that list. So to see him still playing at this level at that age,
Starting point is 00:33:57 he went on Rappaport's. That'd be Dan, not Ian. His, I think it was a podcast and talked about his routine. It's like, God, this guy's a fucking grinder. This, even Tiger today. They're like, Tiger, you come, he said he didn't say he wouldn't play the Masters. I don't expect him to play in the Masters, but he left it kind of open-ended. But the one thing he says, like, I'm still working to try to play.
Starting point is 00:34:26 It's like, Tiger, you're 50 years old. He was worth like a billion dollars. Why are you still grinding so hard to try to still play tournaments? Because that's just the way these guys are wired, man. Like when Tiger and Justin Rose and these guys got it into business, these private jets and these PIP payments and these equity, none of this shit existed. It wasn't as glamorous as it is now.
Starting point is 00:34:47 They got into it. I say all the time about football coaches. If you're John Harbaugh, if you're Andy Reeves, if you're Andy Reed, if you're Bill Belichick. Like, these guys got into football before people were making $15, $20 million a year. You know, 25 years ago, there was a small percentage of coaches making a million dollars a year. Position coaches definitely weren't making that much money. So there's like a, there's like a pureness to their love of the game.
Starting point is 00:35:15 That it's just different now. Like, if you get into pro sports in 2006, All we talk about is money. When are you going to get your next contract? How much you make as a rookie? What are they paying you? It's like, what's your shoe deal? What's your clothing deal?
Starting point is 00:35:30 It's like that in basketball, football, golf, you name it. Just what you're going to make? I feel like it wasn't quite like that when I was young. Obviously, when I was a kid, Michael Jordan made a lot of money, right? But it just felt that there was a different vibe. And I'm not trying to, you know, this like false. sense of history. It truly was. It didn't quite feel like it does now. And that's what I respect about Justin Rowe's. It's what I respect about Tiger. And one takeaway I had today watching
Starting point is 00:36:02 Tiger talk is Rollap, who, kind of like Goodell, I haven't seen him talk that much, which I don't have a problem with. Like, he doesn't need to be front and center. He needs to utilize Tiger Woods. Like, you get Tiger Woods at 50 years old in front of a microphone. There's like this combination of calmness, confidence, and swagger that he brings that I feel like he's being underutilized. Because clearly behind the scenes, he's playing a major role. But you get him in front of the microphone. He basically promotes a sense of vision, of confidence. If I was a prospective company that might sponsor an event, I watch that.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Like, I want in on his business. I'm not talking about him playing anymore. I'm not even counting him playing anymore. I expect to never see him again. Maybe on the Champions Tour on a cart. I'm not expecting him ever to play a PJ Tour event again. I will be pleasantly surprised whenever he plays the Masters.
Starting point is 00:37:08 But to have him play a role in terms of a frontman. Like I was watching this YouTube to this video on the festival. Balkans. And Matt Ryan, there's just a comfort he has putting him in front of a group of reporters, putting him on Pat McAfee. Forty-Nighters have that in John Lynch. The Giants hired Buster Posey to rent. When you hire these former big-time athletes, they're very comfortable in that environment. You know why? That's all they've done their entire life. But once they get in that mode, unlike when they were playing, there's less of a guard. They're, they're
Starting point is 00:37:50 They're more relaxed. They actually promote. Like, even if they don't, they feel like they know what they're doing. And Tiger, who clearly is just a golf addict, loves the PGA tour, and is a huge reason. My buddy Scotty texts me today, he's like, you know the crazy thing is? Knock on wood, thank God this didn't happen. I guess you don't need a knock on wood because we avoided it. If Tiger would have died in that car accident, he had.
Starting point is 00:38:22 at the Genesis, whatever, five years ago. Do Rory and some of these guys, would they have gone to live? Do the Saudis now own the PGA Tour? Because I think there's a decent chance. I think his role of being around and supporting the tour and being like one of its loyal soldiers of the number one guy on the front lines of the importance of this entity, whatever that is now, I don't even know how you even.
Starting point is 00:38:54 and it's harder to quite describe everything that's going on because it's ever-changing. But might have saved golf. Truly might have. And when you watch him talk, you just go, he has like the credentials of Jack Nicholas because 80 plus wins, 15 majors, the greatest player I've ever seen and probably will ever see.
Starting point is 00:39:17 But now he's kind of got this confidence in front of a microphone, like truly, ask me whatever you want. You want to ask me about Anthony Kim? You want to ask me about Charlie. You want to ask me about the schedule. You want to ask me about, you name it. The Super Bowl, I don't give it. I'll hold court here for 30 minutes.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Like Arnold Palmer. Really, that role would have been Phil's, but Phil's done. Like, he's never coming back to the BJ. Like, he's excommunicated. So now Tiger has the role of the most accomplished guy and also the spokesman, and he's really good at it. Like, it feels pretty natural.
Starting point is 00:39:53 to him. It's actually something that there was more of a guarded nature when he was younger. And he's been like this for a while now in his older years, probably that late 2018-19 run, but definitely since he got injured and came back, he has been so good in these press conferences. They need to utilize him more. I would have him, and I get it, he's busy.
Starting point is 00:40:18 He's going to get more busy if he plays a Champions tour and goes to watch Charlie in college. You got to double down on Tiger Woods, being a spokesman for your business. Like, that is really, really important. There's a reason teams have their quarterbacks talk all the time. Usually they handle themselves really well in front of a microphone. It's good for business. Seeing Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes or whoever talk all the time.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Because they're good at it. They're good looking. They're good speakers. They're just, they're natural at it. they have to communicate anyway in their role on the team as a quarterback, right? Every time they get in a huddle, they're the guys talking. And I think there's a similarity there with Tiger of like, make him be your quarterback. Not on the course, those days are done, but off the course.
Starting point is 00:41:15 And I watch them today, I'm like, God, I could watch Tiger Woods press conferences every single week if they happen. And obviously just from a human standpoint, a little human interest story would be Charlie, who most of us started watching years ago when he would play in that father-son event with Tiger. And he started really young. I remember the first time he got an eagle. He was probably like 12 or 13 years.
Starting point is 00:41:40 I used to love that event to what he's become now going to Florida State. And I read this article on The Athletic. This is not like some token invite to the team. He's established himself. over the last, like, eight to 12 months on the amateur circuit. Like, he's a good young player. And I always said this, because people like, I bet he ends up going to Stanford like his dad.
Starting point is 00:42:01 It's like, no chance. Their home base is Jupiter, Florida. Tiger Woods loves those no taxes. He loves that sunshine, and he loves that mansion on the water. He is a southeast guy. Charlie Woods, if he was good enough, and he probably, even if he wasn't, teams would have been interested. but once he became good enough, he's playing in the SEC.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I always guess he would play at Florida. But Georgia, Alabama, Vanderbilt, one of those schools, I didn't necessarily think Florida State, but it makes a lot of sense. Obviously, they've had pros before. And what a cool moment for Tiger. What a cool moment for anyone who's on that team. Not that if you play at Florida State, you don't have access to sweet courses in Florida. That program and those kids will have an open,
Starting point is 00:42:50 policy at every course that matters in the South. Definitely every course that matters in Florida. From Jordan's course to Tiger's course to you name it, it will be a great time to be on that team in terms of access. And the people you will meet as a college golfer, the coach of that team, it is going to be an awesome experience for everyone. And I'm excited to watch and follow the guy's career. Miles Russell, the star Young Lefty, is going to be,
Starting point is 00:43:18 I think he's in Charlie's class. in his recruiting class, so who's supposedly the best number one amateur and has been the top guy for a couple years. I remember one of my buddies who works in the golf apparel business, and he's part of, you know, the team that signs guys to wear their stuff.
Starting point is 00:43:43 And I said, do you think he was just skip, Miles Russell, skip college and GoPro? He's like, NIL, bro. Do you know how much money he is going to make and just get to enjoy himself in college. I'm like, I didn't think of that. He could easily stay for four years and make $5 to $8 million, $10 million a year.
Starting point is 00:44:02 So the NIL money that Charlie, I would guess, Florida State, I'm sure, has a deal with Nike, but maybe Sunday Red sponsors the golf team. We'll have to see how that plays out, but excited to watch that for sure. And the last but not least, Riv, I just don't see how you don't. take Scotty to win this tournament. Plus 325. Hard Rock bet. I was looking at the odds today.
Starting point is 00:44:27 I mean, his odds have been well, it's been plus 250 before. So I never hate taking Scotty. I don't think you ever feel bad about betting despite these crazy low odds having Scotty Schaeffler on your betting ticket. Because you will look up on Saturday or Sunday and he will either be in the lead or coming back and right near the lead. You will always have a chance. And that in golf, that's all you can ask for. I mean, a guy that's been gambling on golf for a long time, you can bet on five guys to finish in the top 10 and four of them can miss the cut. And it kind of sucks. Because you're like, I got this guy, long odds, and this guy, and Homa and Cam Young. It's like, those guys are even around on Saturday. It's like, his odds suck. Yet Scotty Schephler is
Starting point is 00:45:16 literally always in the mix on Sunday. And as a golf better, that's really all you can ask for. Now, it's easier to pick top tens and top 20s with other guys because they have better odds. Scotty's odds to finish in the top 10 are like minus 300. They suck. I mean, you get Rory this week plus 140. To me, that's an auto hammer. This course is going to play really long. It's going to be soaked. You're going to get no role. He just showed at Pebble. He's in pretty good form. He's played well here before. I think Rory top 10 plays. plus 140's an auto hammer. Hadecki, he's playing really well.
Starting point is 00:45:50 If his driver just worked decently on Sunday, he probably runs away with waste management. He came storming back last week, looked fantastic. You can get him plus 240 to top 10 in this tournament. A little bit of a long shot, he showed a lot of promise at Pebble. Several years ago, Sam Burns was leading this tournament on Sunday and completely melted down.
Starting point is 00:46:16 but he's comfortable at this course and had success at this course before, you can get him 30 to 1. So to me, looking at some of the guys that are a bit longer odds, Sam Burns is about as long as I go. And I might dabble a little bit on 30 to 1 Sam Burns to win this week. So take Scottie to win, Burns to win, Rory Hedekke to top 10. And that will be your boy's card for the weekend. Enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Hopefully everyone's doing well. and look forward to watching a little golf this weekend. The Volume. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what?
