I think he's on the East Coast doing things that I probably would not be doing on my vacation. I am joined today, as always, by the great Alex Curry. Alex, how are you on this fine Thursday morning? Oh, I'm great, Jay Mack. This is my birthday weekend. So I'm like, vibes are high this whole week into next week. We're going to have a great time the next two days. Indeed.

A birthday weekend. Is there Vegas on the horizon? What do we do? You know, I work on weekends. I have my Fox Sports radio show on Saturdays. I work baseball on Sundays. And, yeah, birthday Monday. Wow, everybody's excited. Alex has the birthday. And my Dallas Mavericks come through last night. How about that? We're going to start the show talking NBA finals. Yes, I will get to the quarterback of the Jets who said some more extreme things yesterday. Nothing wrong with that. He's an extremist. We'll get to it. But I need to start with the Mavericks. And Luca Donchich and Kyrie Irving. and kid. What a performance that was. Listen, NBA playoffs have been thrilling. And I, you know,

I want to be a positive guy. You know, Alex even said the vibes are fluent. I need to be positive. So I'm not going to start the show going after Aunt Edwards, aka the next Michael Jordan. Come on, folks, Dwayne Wade's a much better example. But I'm not going to go after him, right? I'm not going to take a shot at, you know, Rudy Gobert struggling mightily against Luca Donchich. I'm going to start positive. I'm going to start with Kyrie Irving. I need to apologize to Kyrie Irving. I'm sure you guys saw after Minnesota Dispatch Denver in game seven, the cocksure Anthony Edwards said, oh, I put, I had the cuffs on Jamal Murray. Jamal Murray at 35 points. And next up, I want all the smoke from Kyrie. I'm going to guard Kyrie Irving.

Well, Kyrie Irving came out in game one last night and had 24 points in the first half. Out of character for him is he had been kind of a slow starter letting Luca lead the way early. Kyrie went off. You could see in the video there on FS1. Anytime Anthony Edwards was on him, barbecue chicken. I'm going right to the basket.

And Kyrie Irving talked to Charles Berkeley and company about that last night. You at home minding your business the other night. What about it? You put your beautiful family just chilling, probably having a nice meal, and then the young fellow says, I got Kyrie.

And you said, excuse me? And he said it again. He said, I got Kyrie. Yeah. That's the most aggressive you been in a long time. Yes, sir. I know that had to irk you a little bit. Use it as a motivation.

You know, when I was sitting at home and I saw it, I was like, it's just a nod of respect. How about that? Be careful what you wish for, young fella. You know, listen, hey, we all say stuff. Anthony Edwards regretted it clearly. But let's focus on Kyrie Irving, right? I mean, that is such a good perspective from the old man, Kyrie Irving. and I can call him old at 32 in these playoffs,

which has been characterized by young stars everywhere. Kyrie's kind of the old guy, the old head. Now, I've had a personal checkered history with Kyrie Irving. When he came into the league, man, this kid had all the swag, the drip, the Riz, whatever you want to call it, he had it. He had those cool viral commercials when YouTube was kind of popping, and then he was Uncle Drew and made a movie,

and everybody loved Kyrie Irving. And I don't know whether the stardom and the ferns, fame went to his head or that game winning shot against the Warriors in game seven on the road went to his head. But Kyrie went sideways. And it had been a bad run for him personally. I mean, we're talking about a guy who demanded out of Cleveland with LeBron after winning a title. There were reports that Kyrie Irving said, you know what? If you don't trade me, I'm going to go ahead and get surgery that I may or may not need. And they traded him. He goes to Boston. He's with Young Tatum, Young Brown, Marcus Smart. They had a squad. And Kyra's like, nah, not for me. I don't

need these young guys. I can't deal with these young guys. So then he goes to Brooklyn, and that was an epic disaster. I mean, he drags Kevin Durant with him. I think I said at the time that this ruined Kevin Durant's career, and you could argue Kevin Durant's gone all downhill since leaving the Warriors for Brooklyn. And he did that to follow Kyrie Irving. Like I said, Kyrie Irving was a cool guy. People like him around the league. He's got an elite layup finishing package around the rim. Nobody does what Kyrie Irving does, but it flamed out spectacularly. I mean, you guys remember of Brooklyn. The guy's burning sage in the locker room. And James Hardin's looking at him like, bro, what the hell's going on here? Kyrie was going sideways. And, you know, then there was the whole

bubble situation where the players were trying to get to the bubble and finish the season and have the finals. And Kyrie Irving publicly went on a call and was like, why are we doing this? We shouldn't finish the season. We should not play. And it was just, Kyrie Irving was having a moment. You know, we don't personally know what these athletes are going through off the court. with their families or their girlfriends or wives or what have you. Kyrie was going through some stuff. And he ends up demanding out of Brooklyn. That just was unbelievably bad.

And he lands in Dallas. And a lot of people are like, well, this ain't going to work. But, but LeBron James is a guy who thought it was going to work. And me the whole time, I thought Kyrie Irving was the Scorpion. And the Scorpion and the Frog story, which I think I've told on this show before, you guys know the Scorpion wants to cross the river and ask the frog for a ride. And the frog's like, no, you're going to sting me. And I'm going to die.

We'll both die. And the scorpion says, no, no, no, I'm different now. I'm not going to do that. Frog says, all right, fine. Gives him a ride halfway across the river. What does the scorpion do? Bing. Frog's like, why the hell would you do that?

We're going to die. And they both die. And Scorpion says, yeah, it's what I do. I'm a scorpion. I thought Kyrie was the scorpion. And now all signs indicate he's all grown up in these playoffs with Dallas this season. There's no more. I need a week off.

to go to my sister's birthday. There's none of that. He's got his act cleaned up. He's been a model citizen in Dallas. He's working great with Luca. Maybe he's just a better two than he is a one. He's not the leader that he was trying to be in Brooklyn or trying to be in Boston. And he's better a number two guy.

And I'm just telling you, Mavs are three wins away from the NBA finals. And I would not be surprised at all. I think they're the betting favorite in my eyes to win the NBA championship. Now let's pivot to the NFL and my favorite team in the league. Yes, the New York football Jets, mired in, I don't even think I can call it mediocrity. They have the longest playoff drought in the NFL. And this is a Jets team, folks, where there were expectations last year, and then what, four snaps into the season, Aaron Rogers pops his Achilles, and it's over.

So Rogers is supposedly healthy. Jets made some great free agent moves. They're back on track. A lot of the sharpest gamblers. We'll have one of them on in the third hour. Really love the Jets. There is a lot of momentum around the Jets to go to the Super Bowl, to perhaps win the Super Bowl.

Well, Rogers took to the podium in New York yesterday, and here's what Aaron Rogers said. As you get older in the league, if you don't perform, they're going to get rid of you or bringing the next guy to take over. I mean, it happened in Green Bay. And I'm a few years older than I was back then. Well, I think if I don't do what I know I'm capable of doing, we're all probably going to be out of here.

So I like that kind of pressure, though. Anytime I hear I like that kind of pressure. It reminds me of Stephen Jackson, who I've shared a dressing room here with at Fox. And Stephen Jackson had a great quote, I make love to pressure. You know, I can't stop thinking about that quote. But regarding what Rogers said, that's not normal quarterback speak. you don't go to the podium and say,

hey, if I don't deliver, everybody's done. We're all toast. We're all in the unemployment line. You don't hear that. And it made me think of this quote from Sam Altman, the guy who started chat GPT, extreme people get extreme results. And undeniably, Aaron Rogers is an extremist.

And that's not a knock to say he's an extremist. I'm an extremist in some aspects of my life. I'm sure Alex is. Colin I know is. But Rogers is an extremist. Hey, guys, I'm going to ponder my future with the Packers and in the NFL. But first, I'm going to go on a darkness retreat.

Like, that's not normal. He's an extremist, okay? You guys know a lot of single fans out there on the herd. Obviously, men, not women. But on the first date, you're not supposed to talk about religion, politics, or exes, right? Aaron Rogers is pulling up to the table. He's talking about all three of them. He doesn't care.

When he goes to the podium or on podcasts, he's talking about religion. He grew up Catholic. He don't want anything to do with Catholic now. Aaron Rogers talks politics on religion. He was nearly the vice presidential candidate for Bobby Kennedy, who he refers to at the podium as Bobby, like it's his boy, which they probably are buddies. But he is an extremist. And you know what I said?

Extreme people get extreme results. And I am of the belief Rogers comes off the Achilles. They got the new offensive line. They add Mike Williams from the Chargers. This offense is going to make the judge. jump to light speed. Now, stop me if you've heard this before, the Jets are going to be pretty damn good. Folks, I've been on this show, I think, for two years now, maybe more. And I've been excited for the Jets every year. I've tempered expectations only because deep down, I know this is

the year. This is it. It's happening. Okay, I know the AFC's loaded, and there's a bunch of people here in the studio laughing. Jason, come on. The Jets again, listen to Rogers when he's saying this stuff. He really knows everything's on the line. He wants to be the villain. Aaron Rogers throughout his career has thrived on being the villain. You know, they draft him. Brett Farves

hemming and hawing. Do I stay? Do I go? And he's getting these little tweaks. Old man, Favre folks, he's tweaking. He's poking the bear. He wanted it. Rogers basically, remember, he was supposed to go maybe number one in the draft, maybe top five. He slides all the way to 20.

You can read some of the reports from back in the day when he fell. Since then, massive chip on his shoulder. Okay? And guys who have chips on their shoulder? I may have a small one. Some of us do. Coward certainly does. They thrive on using that as motivation.

Michael Jordan famously would, like, create these fake scenarios, fake trash talk, fake hate, and then use it to his advantage. I believe Rogers is using all this. He knows. When he goes on podcasts with Joe Rogan and company and talks about religion and the vaccine, he is being an extremist. He wants you loving him or hating him. We're in an era of tribalism.

And Aaron Rogers is signaling to his tribe. Yo, I'm over here, guys. It's like that scene, I probably shouldn't reference this. A great movie where a guy goes into prison, Edward Norton Jr., of course, American History X. And he takes off his shirt and he's all tatted up with, you know what on his body. and it's a signal instantly to his crew. Hey, come on over here. Come hang with us.

Aaron Rogers is signaling with these comments. Hey, you're either with us or you're against us. And I'm sure, you know, he's getting word of this. Oh, McIntyre, he's against us. No, no, guys, I'm with you. I'm a fan of the Jets. I'd love for you to tamp down some of the extremism, maybe dial back the villainy.

But if it works for you, it works for the Jets, it's got to work for me. And I see Alex is wearing her, can I call that Jets Green? This is don't. Do not pull me in this category. This is not Jets Green. It's a little more of a sea foam green. Seafoam, wow.

But I know you're excited. I am. Yes. Four snaps is your sample size. Slow your roll. Let's maybe see an entire game before we get into, oh my gosh, they're going all the way to the Super Bowl. I'm excited for you that there is hope now.

You know, he's healthy. Let's hope he can stay healthy. But he's old coming off one of the hardest injuries to come back from with, again, as you said, a lot of pressure that apparently he thrives off of. And he's saying he well. welcomes it and he does better with it. Let's see a game. Let's see one full game with Aaron Rogers and the Jets.

And we have a good staff here. And any time I talk about the Jets and the excitement, it's, Jay, do you remember his last season in Green Bay? He was kind of garbage? Not good at all. And I was like, hey, hey, wait a minute. When they drafted Jordan Love, he was so angry, thriving off the anger that he was the MVP of the league in back-to-back year.

So I'm optimistic for the Jets. I really do believe good things are ahead and good things are ahead here for the next three hours coming up next. I'll tell you why you shouldn't worry about the wins and losses. Yeah, Caitlin Clark, lost again last night. Don't worry about that this season. That's next. The first thing I did was check the WMBA score of the fever game. I've never done that in my life. Check a WMBA score on my phone.

Never. I couldn't even tell you who played in the finals last year. Caitlin Clark was playing. I wanted to know how the game was going. And of course, it was close late, so then I pull up my other app, which is my cable TV, and I was able to watch the final minute. It was a disaster, but it wasn't Clark's fault. Anyways, fever lose again last night.

They lose a close one to Seattle. They drop to 0 and 5. Someone in our morning meeting said that Iowa lost five games last season with Caitlin Clark. The fever have lost five games already this season. But it doesn't really matter the wins and losses. It's largely irrelevant. The mere fact that we are talking about the WNBA and people are,

even if you're not looking at it with both eyes or checking online, you have one eye on what Caitlin Clark's doing. Folks, I've been on the show, like I said, I think for two years. I don't think we ever had one WNBA topic. Not one. We're now doing it at least once a week. News flash out here in L.A. Caitlin Clark is visiting the L.A. Sparks tomorrow, and I will be at the game.

I'm excited to go. Never seen her live. But it's something that there's a moment happening for the WNBA. And LeBron, on his Mind the Game podcast, talked with J.J. Reddick, about defending what Caitlin Clark is doing right now. The one thing that I'm not. I love that she's bringing to her sport, more people want to watch. More people want to tune in.

I saw for the first time that they had a chartered plane for the first time in their league history. You know, they flew private. That should be celebrated in his own right. That should be celebrated. And it's because of Caitlin Clark. Don't get it twisted. Don't get it fucked up. Caitlin Clark is the reason why a lot of great things is going to happen for the WNBA.

LeBron's spot on, obviously. LeBron's on a bit of a heater. I don't know if you guys saw last night. He was having to beef with the NBA challenge rule. Say, oh, Mavericks had two challenges. They won both and now they're out. That's not fair. Of course, that goes viral.

LeBron, nicely done. But in regards to Caitlin Clark, like, she had her best game of the year, 21, 7, and 7. The stats, it doesn't really matter. If you guys remember, Victor Wembenyama and the Spurs, last season, you know, Wembe Nama starts out, They're losing a million games, but nobody really cares. It's about the player and their growth and their development.

San Antonio Spurs are relevant again since the Tim Duncan era, right? They're back, thanks to Wemben Yama. Arrows are pointing up. People are excited for Wembe next year. Caitlin Clark and the fever, they're not going to win the title this year. Yes, it was a dumb wager by me to take a long shot. You know, some pizza money on the fever to win the title. They ain't winning the title.

Playoffs, I doubt it. But Caitlin Clark's growth in development is huge. Did you see the news this week? She became the first female to sign a deal with Wilson. She's going to have her own signature basketball. That's something Michael Jordan got. This is crazy. I mean, the trickle-down is unbelievable.

LeBron mentioned the charters. Did you guys see that Kim Kardashian's brand skims is now a partner with the WMBA? So what did the WNBA do the first week of the season? Hey, we're going to dress up some of our best players who are also attractive. going to put them in skims, underwear, and put that online and is going to go viral, and everybody's going to talk about the WNBA. Another victory for the league. A little thing they're doing, just small stuff.

So, you know, the NBA players, when they walk into the arena, they have cameras, and they capture them coming in with a fit check. You know, they got the earbuds or the headphones and the cool clothes. I think I told this story a year ago on the show. So Steph Curry came into a game once, and he had a trophy hunting. sweatshirt. And I was like, ooh, that is a cool brand name. So I went online and I went and bought a trophy hunting sweatshirt. And of course, you know, the guy who has the company saw my name and stuff is like, oh my gosh. So he sent me an email. Let me send you some more stuff. And I now wear

some of the guys gear. All because I saw Steph Curry walking into the arena wearing it. Well, what is the WNBA doing now? This is just a small thing. They are now highlighting the fit checks of the WNBA players walking into the arena. Caitlin Clark, here she is. Look at her outfit. And then next thing you know pretty quickly, you can buy her outfit. And then the tall rookie on the L.A. Sparks, Cameron Brink, who's like six foot four, blonde, like super popular on Instagram. Her outfits are styled so they go viral.

The WNBA is doing a great job on the business side of things, capturing eyeballs, capturing momentum, all because of Caitlin Clark. They now announce they're going to have. two new franchises. The WNBA, we could call it a fledgling league. That's not a knock. Not with the Caitlin Clark impact. They now have two new franchises coming to the WNBA.

Chartered flights, brand deals with Kim Kardashian-Spanks, fit checks across the league. Folks, this is like, we're going to see people at the Harvard Business School do breakdowns on the Caitlin Clark effect, not that differently than what happened with Taylor Swift when she was doing her concerts. I'm just, I know some people are like, oh, come on, Jason, stop talking WNBA. This is cool. Folks, I love this.

I love all aspects of it. I think it's great for the league, great for business, great for the brand. All these women are starting to get more paid, more exposure. And I think they got to thank Caitlin Clark. Let's go to Alex Curry with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

Just to cap off your Caitlin Clark rant there, I think one of my favorite things that I've seen is she's pulling in a lot of non-sports fans, non-traditional sports fans. You're getting in a whole new audience that you're bringing not only to the game of basketball, but the WNBA, and then just being interested in sports. Because again, you have to see it to believe it. And now that they're getting that national attention, young girls, women are seeing it. And it's just, it's just going to do wonders for women in sports. So it's, I love it. But let's get to our first heard line story. The Timberwolves dropped game one to the Mavs at home last night. Eddie Edwards didn't have his best game scoring just 19 points on 6 of 16 shooting.

And after the game, he explained why he thinks he and the rest of the team didn't play up to their standards. We came out flat today, I mean, and then we found our energy, then we went back to being flat, so I think it was just on us. Everything was on us today. I didn't get downhill as much. Yeah, just stuff like that. We was just a little tired, probably.

not an excuse in the playoffs. Everybody is tired. Yeah, okay, the Mavs ended Saturday, so they had an extra day of rest. But then Aunt gave Kyrie the perfect bulletin board material that you talked about off the top of the show. When you're going to call out one of their top players and say, I got you all. Kyrie's just at home with his family on the couch watching the game, as he mentioned on the broadcast last night, and he said it kind of took him by surprise. He was like, okay, now I know they're going to be a little tired. I'm going to use that to my advantage. And yeah, this has added motivation. And Kyrie came out and completely set the tone last night

when he scored 24 points in the first half. Like, he was the Mavs right out of the gates. I'm not buying the tired excuse. You look at the boxwork. They're winning in the first quarter. They're winning at halftime. Tired. You're 22 years old.

What are you talking about? Carl Anthony Towns is in his prime. I don't. It felt like a lot of excuse making. And I just want to remind some people, this is a Minnesota team. after winning the first two in Denver. They lost three in a row,

and they led for a combined one minute in those three games. So I know we want to crown them and young Michael Jordan and all this. Let's pump the brakes a little bit. I don't want to give Anthony Edwards any bulletin board material, but Alex, he didn't score a two-point basket in the second half. He said he wasn't going down-hill. He didn't attack the rim.

He settled for threes. Zero points in the third quarter. He didn't want to attack the big rookie, Derek lively inside. I mean, Dallas is a shot-blocking machine on the interior. They got length. I like Dallas in the series. Everybody liked Minnesota.

That's fine. You know, I'm on an island where I like to be. I'm an extremist like Aaron Rogers. No. I'm over here. I just, when you're in the playoffs, there's no excuses. Yeah. Like everyone's hurting.

Everyone's tired. You show up and you play. You adjust and you move forward. Yeah. That's how you win games. All right, let's move on to another young team. The Cavaliers have fired head coach J.B. Bickerstaff after five seasons with the team. Now, under Bricker staff, the Cavs reached the playoffs in the last two seasons and advanced

to the Eastern Conference. semifinals for the first time since 2018. Now, in a statement released today, Catt's president of basketball operations, Kobe Altman thanked Bakerstaff for helping establish a culture in Cleveland, but also said they need to be aggressive and take risks to move the franchise forward. Now, doesn't it feel like he was moving the franchise forward? I mean, he got the team, as I said,

to the Eastern Conference semifinal for the first time in six years. That's the first time since LeBron was on the team when he lost to the Warriors in the finals. that's a really big deal to be able to take a young crew and get them there. So what this kind of screams to me is a team doesn't make a move like this unless your stars aren't happy. Right? And they have a big offseason to try to keep Donovan Mitchell. He's a free agent after next season. There have been reports that Mitchell and other of the teammates didn't have confidence in Bickerstaff.

So are you shocked by this? It's a tough one. I feel bad for Bickerstaff. Like you said, first playoff series win since pre-Lebron. Yes. Without LeBron. But this does not look great for Donovan Mitchell. Like, you want to keep your star.

It's a star league. Yeah. So they probably went to Donovan Mitchell and said, what do you think? I mean, that has to be what it is, right? I mean, even if he's like, I don't want to be involved in coaching moves. I mean, they reached the playoffs the last two years. Like, that's not like a bad, like, I mean. a bad record and a reason to let someone go.

He was a part of the rebuild. He advanced you to a position you hadn't been at since you lost the biggest name in the NBA and LeBron James. The last time you were there was with LeBron James. Now we got you there and you're like, bye. Yeah, season's been over for a week. They, what, let him twist in the wind?

Yeah. Maybe they were like, who else could we get? Like, who can you get? Like, do you have someone lined up already? Hopefully. That would make sense. Like, if you have someone, like, ready to jump in, but I mean, he didn't do a bad job.

So it has to be some sort of a chemistry thing. Again, with the star player or maybe the team as a whole. I'm not, the Donovan Mitchell saga is going to be very interesting this season. Very interesting. All right, let's switch gears to the NFL. Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract. And there have been a lot of talk about what's going to happen with him in Dallas. Jerry Jones has said he wants to keep Dak,

but he's also willing to let the season play out. and Dach added his thoughts about these contract talks at OTAs this week. I don't play for money. Never have, never cared for it, to be honest with you. Yeah, we'll give it up to just to play this game. So I, yeah, so I allow that to the business people to say what it's worth, what they're supposed to give a quarterback of my play, a person of my play, leader of my play, I guess you can say.

say and for me it's about as I said control I can control and handle that part and the rest will take care of itself. I mean we all do what we love in this industry for money. So you can say that as much as you want but doc you're going to go to the place like that gives you the best deal, right? I mean I do think that DAC holds all the cards in this scenario now because at the end of the season he's a free agent. They can't franchise tag him. He has a no trade clause in his contract and there are plenty of other teams that I believe would probably overpay DAC because he is a good quarterback. Now here's the question. He's a great regular season quarterback, right? He was in the MVP conversation last year. But his playoff record is

two and five in the postseason and he's never gotten past the divisional round. So if you're the Cowboys, I guess that's what you're trying to weigh and he's had talent around him. He has had so much talent around him and the ability to succeed while he's in Dallas. So it's just a question of do the Cowboys want to continue with Dak and think maybe he can get him over that hump? So I don't know. Have you ever been like a body language expert person? Have you ever given body language all the time? Okay. So I worked it way back when I was a young guy, I worked at this celebrity magazine Us Weekly and body language was huge. You would. Body language was massive. This makes so much sense.

I was like a young idiot, so I didn't really know this stuff. And the other people on staff are like, oh, body language. Everything. You can tell. So if you watch that DAC video, I don't know if we can play it without the sound. Alex, he's rocking back and forth. So he feels uncomfortable. Well, yeah.

He's uncomfortable talking about money. Like, also, like, what happens if you get hurt this season? What happens if you get hurt this season? He's talking about money. Yeah. He's just rocking back and stuff. No. I mean, as much as you want to say, money doesn't matter.

Money matters. That's why you're playing the game that you love. That's why you're like the most important. You are the most important highest paid position in the league on one of the biggest franchise in the league, the Cowboys. Like, yes, okay, yeah, money doesn't matter. I would do this anyway. I love what I do.

He's lying. No, you're going to. It's about money. It's going to know what the deal is going to be. That's what's going to happen. What's the saying when you say it's not about money, it's about money or something like that? Is that a phrase?

Well, his last contract, that was about money. That was a big deal too. It always is. He doesn't want to be, you know, short changed. No. looks at Jared Goff's contract that says 53 a year. Look at my numbers in the regular season. What are you talking about?

Yeah. And again, the sample size, you said what, is two and five playoff record? Yeah, two and five in the postseason and never gotten past the divisional round. I know it's unfair to do this, but seven playoff games, is that a sample size when you have like an eight-year body of work, eight times, what, 16 games? I mean, seven games, it's tough to judge. They don't do well in the postseason. I mean, bottom line, the Cowboys don't do well. They haven't for the last 20 years.

I haven't done well in the post season. I'm trying to defend him, but it's different. Oh, okay. I mean, listen, I want these guys to get paid. He's going to get paid, whether it's by the Cowboys or by another team. The thing is, if the Cowboys let it go to the end of the season, like, he's a free agent. They can't franchise tag him. He has a no trade clause during the season.

So they either have to get a deal done with him this season, or they're going to be, they're going to have a much higher price. Because I feel like teams are going to come in. and outbid and overpay to get a guy like Dak Prescott because he is a good quarterback. And some of these other teams that aren't the Cowboys that need a good quarterback, they're going to pay for the most important position in the league, especially a guy that was in the MVP conversation last year

during the regular season. Yeah. I know the last dance phrase is played out, but with the coach kind of a lame duck and Dak... They didn't do anything this off season. Jerry Jones say, we're going all in. And then what did you do? What was all in?

What's up, brother? How you been, man? Can't complain. Life is good. I had the Mavs last night they come through. I'm assuming you watch the game and you're rooting for your guy, Kyrie Irving, huh? Yeah, absolutely, man.

And I couldn't be more happy for Kyrie. I got a chance to talk to him when we went over there and played against the Mavericks. And the one thing that stood out, man, just by seeing Kyrie, for what I know, I had him as rookie year, he's happy. And Mark Cuban and Nico and Jake hit and those guys, they've embraced Kyrie.

And for him, You know, most of us ballplayers say, you know, is basketball or nothing, man. Basketball is everything. Karee's like, I want to be happy. I want to be a good person. I want to serve my fellow man. And then basketball is just something I really love and I'm great and I'm good at. And for him, it's the people around him.

And he's been embraced in Dallas. Yeah, do you feel like he's a different person? I know we don't totally know these guys what they're going through off the court. But it seems like he's had some rocky stops in Boston. clearly in Brooklyn. And now he's, is this more about him maturing? Or is this like the right supporting cast in Dallas and front office? They've got a history with him.

They know him well. He's embraced his role and knows who he is. So when he's looking at Luca Donuts, it's different than looking at James Hardin and Kevin Durant as peers as equals or LeBron James and saying, hey man, I'm the guy who hit the big shot, Brian. He looks at Luca. And Lucas says, Kyrie, you've been here before you've done this. Teach me how to do this.

PJ Washington and those guys are saying, Kyrie, you're the OG in the room, okay? What do we need to do better defensively? How do we execute? How do we come through in these moments? And Kyrie, we heard him last night during his interview say, hey, man, I want to win. I don't want to go home.

You know, I think I've taken these things for granted. And Kyrie has some of the, it's a good problem to have. And moments, the game has come too easy for Kyrie. So when you're that good, I was never that good. I knew I had to work hard. When you're that good, you have to remember to work hard to use your teammates to play in the system. So these are all the things that Kyrie's coming around full circle in his career to take part of or else he'll be going home early and he doesn't want to be a part of that.

Struggle with Ryan Hollins, Fox Sports Radio. Ryan, we watched Rudy Gobert really struggle last night. That drop coverage, Luca just annihilated him. Listen, I remember Luca was picking on him back when he was in, Utah and the Mavs knocked him out of the playoffs. I didn't see anything different. Can Minnesota do anything differently against the Luca pick and roll? I don't do they blitz Luca?

Do they, I don't know, maybe go Nas Reid over Gobert because he's a little more athletic. We saw Nas trying to guard him like 25 feet from the hoop. Gobert ain't doing that. Any thoughts on how Minnesota can adjust here? So remember, this is game one. And the one thing, this is chest not checkers. All right, Jay, this is chest not checkers. PJ Washington, okay, and Jones Jr., they showed you, they showed Oklahoma City,

if you take away the lob, we will hit the three. So now they're going to say, we're going to take away a lob. You guys have to hit the threes, and let's see if you're in rhythm, because we kept you game one out of rhythm, and we didn't give up all those three-pointers. I think Dallas only hit, what, six or seven three-pointers from the entire game, but they got rimmed. Then the third adjustment, I think what you're saying is you're going to switch, And then this is where Dallas becomes dangerous because you got Gobert or Nas read or Kat,

who? Luca and Kyrie on the perimeter. So that's what makes it a dangerous. And OKC was the biggest headache because they could do what? They could go out and switch. They were able to switch with Dallas. So now you're in a situation where you have to pick your poison. So to answer what you're going to have to say, they're going to take away lob likely

in the next game. The next adjustment may be a blitz. The next adjustment is going to be a switch. and these adjustments in the playoffs could come by quarter by quarter. It can be that detailed in the playoffs. I said something on social media that got people ticked off. I said, I think Luca's got the biggest bag in NBA history. I mean, you just watch him.

He can beat you with the mid-range, the three, the post-up, the vision is incredible. And listen, I know last round, Lou Dort is a tough matchup, really good defender. He had no chance against Luca. Foul trouble every game. Jaden McDaniels, second-team all defense. He's too skinny? Luca just bodies him in the post. I don't know how you stop this guy.

I do believe he will be in the discussion for one of the best players in the history of the sport. I mean, he's 25, I believe, and he's been on like five all NBA teams. Ryan, Luca Donchich, Unstoppable, right? Unstoppable, I give you that. He may not have the best bag on his team. Kyrie Irving, as far as bagging,

and moves and getting to your spots. I don't know we take them above Kyrie, but I do agree with you. What was special about Luca, and I saw this coming. I don't know how the kid wasn't the first pick. in the NBA draft. And the thing about Luca is that he does beat you in a array of different places.

And even worse, he doesn't in slow motion. He does it with a bad knee. A young bull's going to be on the injury report every single night. But he takes his time, and you don't realize how big he is. So he's a mix of Larry Bird and James Harden. He takes his time.

He's in slow motion. He's big. He's going to trash talk with you. And when he's rolling, man, he's seemingly literally. unstoppable because it's not like those small guards that zip past you. He takes you, takes his time, he puts you in jail, he gets in that mid-range, and he can shoot right over you. All right. Let's go macro, big picture in the league now. Obviously, the Lakers, a huge talking

point with their coaching situation. Where are you on the JJ Reddick potential hire, this nonsense that he's maybe the next Pat Riley? I mean, listen, Hollins, people are going crazy out here in L.A. What are you hearing? I'm all in with JJ Reddick. And the reason is we forget you acted like Steve Curtin do this at a very high level. And also, you're not going to put JJ Redick in the situation his first time as head coach and not have some veteran coaches,

some former head coaches. Hey, maybe J.B. Bickerstaff is the name that maybe could go and join the Lakers that can go and teach JJ some of the little things that he may not know. But the biggest thing for JJ that I will challenge him on if he gets the job, your job is. to relate to the players and even more so replayed to your stars. What's he doing?

Relatable LeBron James. He's got LeBron's respect and we've seen on his, their podcast, which is, it's a new NBA, man. It's a new media okay. Coach and the player, they might run the podcast during the season. You never know. But at the end of the day, he's got LeBron's respect and he can call out LeBron.

And LeBron responds best when people can do that. The only other head coach that would be in play in my mind, it would be Tyrone Lou. And if it's not going to be Tyroneau, I think at this moment, you have to go with JJ Redick. I play with JJ. He knows the game.

He's thorough. And the biggest challenge for him is to be relatable, connectible, and also being able to call guys out in that locker room. And when I played with JJ, he had no problems calling guys out. Yeah. All right. So, listen, this is kind of flown under the radar here the last 24 hours because the conference finals are happening.

But the all NBA teams were announced. And Shay Gilges Alexander made it. He's now eligible for the Supermax extension. Ryan, I don't know if you saw this, but per the numbers, SGA is going to be making $81 million, potentially, in like $2029 or something. $81 million, okay? Listen, I'm not looking at anybody's pockets.

More power to the people. Get that paper, stack that paper. $81 million. What's the perception going to be? Or does it, do you just not, who cares? 81 mil? For SGA, who's, I don't, is he a top five player in the league? I don't think so, but he's very, very good, obviously.

Hollins, what are we doing, 81 mil? What are you talking about? He was an MVP candidate this year. And the one thing, you won't know what the players think. He has league-wide respect amongst the players. He's got the swagger. He brings it, and he has the game to back it up. We just got done talking about who.

Luca Donchis. You put Luke on the platform and said, Luca is going to be one of the best ever, maybe the best bag you've ever seen. Shea Gildes is Alexander. is in the Luca Donch's conversation for how young he is, his team success. For God's sakes, they're supposed to be rebuilding right now. He's so good that they were the number one, what were they, number one and number two

in the Western Conference. So for Shegiltz, it's Alexander. I don't think any players or anybody's going to have a question about the money that he's going to be making. You see, he's a young talent. And even more so, hey, the Clippers are probably looking at back and saying, man, we traded Shay away as great as Paul, Georgia's, that looks like an obscene move to make and send all your draft capital over there.

So at the end of the day, Shea's deserving of that contract. I'm happy for these guys getting money. And McIntyre, don't you ever question money again, what's wrong with you, man? So here's the big picture. Again, I'm happy for Shea and everybody. But Ryan, let's be realistic, okay? The NBA did not like the super team era. They don't like guys hopping around.

SGA and OKC, he's not turning that down to leave and go somewhere else, right? He's definitely going to stay in OKC. So it seems to me like they're trying to prevent the super teams from happening. I thought the Super Team Arrow was amazing. Did you not think so? Me personally, I loved it. I like the parody that we have in the NBA. But again, you cannot cry about things going on.

And I want to throw this out. As you talk about Super Team, look, man, Oklahoma City, they're playing Sam Persky is the goat right now. But what he's doing, it's like they're playing NBA 2K. When you go out and you juice your teams, You get everybody. What if they went out and they got Paul George? No.

They went into choir of Paul George. Hey, what if Kevin Durant wants to get his LeBron James on and says, man, I got a shot to go to Oklahoma City and win. So OKC is poised to put together a super team. I love their culture that they built. And when you win a championship, it's not just the stars. You got to have a star mixed with culture. Oklahoma City has culture right now.

They got young stars. everybody who's going into that system is eating. They're playing well. They're developing and even more so to have a fun. And the one thing I love about Shay, and I got to cover him his rookie year with the Clippers is he is a down to earth. He's the same guy. And even with the money,

you're not fearful as an organization that he's going to just devour the room. With all of his success, he's the same guy and he has embraced his teammates in the culture in OKC. And it may really be a desirable place to play. So, hey, man, I wouldn't be mad if Katie made that much. move. I wouldn't be mad if Paul George said, hey, man, they treated me right in O'KC.
