This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians,
and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit are?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

It's the herd on a Tuesday, wherever you may be, and however you may be watching or listening.
Thanks for making us.
Part of your day, Julian Edelman stops by today.
Nick Wright, our herd hierarchy, top 10 teams in the NFL.
One hour from now, Jets will not be in the top 10.
I know.
I got pushback last week because I didn't have them in.
They're definitely not getting in.
Well, J-Mack, time of possession.
The Jets had the ball 21 minutes in Aaron Rogers' entire career.
That is his lowest time of possession.
That includes his first year starting.
Hey, I detect some glee in your voice over the jets getting dismembered.
Have a show, Colin.
Have a show.
So this Aaron Rogers, this one, this isn't baseball.
I don't care about years ago.
This one is 40 off an Achilles surgery.
He is not mobile.
He doesn't leave a three to four foot radius.
He is closer to Kirk Cousins than Patrick Mahomes athletically right now.
He has a below average offensive course.
They have no tight-end production at all.
He's prickly.
And they have one elite receiver.
Cross your fingers.
He's never hurt.
But the rolling, mobile, athletic Aaron Rogers in Green Bay, that's over.
That's high school, Juko, Cal, Green Bay in his prime.
That's over.
He didn't move much as last year in Green Bay.
This jet's offense.
Let's just talk offense.
Is the third most explosive in their division.
give him the edge over New England.
But they don't have a Josh Allen.
They don't have a Tyree Kill, a Jaden Wall the other side.
Mike McDaniel is a coach.
It's the third best offense in their division, and it's an offensive league.
The Jets scored 13 points.
They had one legitimate drive.
The other touchdown was on a free pass,
which I'm told last night, Aaron's the best quarterback ever at the free pass.
I've got my theories why.
You know, there's nothing to lose.
hates throwing interceptions. Let's throw it downfield aggressively. But I guess the good news is
now it's Will Levis, Bo Nix, Jacoby Brissette, Sam Darnold on deck. And Aaron, I mean,
again, it can be pretty. He can still sling it with time. But the structure around him is so
weak. You have a defensive head coach who looked overmatched last night. I mean, San Francisco
did whatever it wanted to. You have an offensive.
coordinator who's completely over his head.
You have a so-so offensive line.
It appears to be okay.
And again, one great wide receiver.
You know, the Jets bought in Aaron to be the savior.
But that's not his personality.
He wasn't a savior in Green Bay.
What was he saving?
They were great the last year of Brett Farb.
He wasn't saving anything.
That's not his personality.
Saviors are people that put things on their shoulders.
and Aaron's aloof.
He's already eye-rolling his two best friends on the team.
Nat Hackett and Alan Lazzardi, eye-rolled both last night.
He's not a savior.
Now, it should be noted he's never been great recently in week one.
His last four week-one games, he's been atrocious,
completing under 60% of his throws, a passer rating of 60.
He's a bad week-one quarterback, and my guess is he is one of the more distracted off-season
quarterbacks.
So he does not come to camp as focused as, you know, Brady in his prime or Manning in his prime or Mahomes in his prime.
But I don't see anything.
I mean, I've watched football since last Thursday.
I saw Kansas City's offense in Baltimore and Philadelphia and Green Bay and I'm watching Dallas and I'm watching San Francisco.
I don't see depth of playmakers.
I don't see an elusive quarterback.
I don't see brilliant schemes.
Unbelievable play calling.
I don't see it.
This is not close to a top 10 offense, and this Aaron, again.
This Aaron isn't the Aaron you remember fondly, or the one in Ian O'Connor's book.
This is Old 40 off a surgery, one elite receiver, below average play caller Aaron Rogers.
Here he was after the mess.
We expect greatness when we step on the field.
There were moments for sure.
The moments have felt really good, but not sustained.
I think a lot of stuff's correctable, which is great for coaches.
It's frustrating for players because we know how close we were slash R.
This is a tough opener for us, travel-wise and schedule-wise, but no excuses.
We got to play better.
I've got to play better.
Now there's the other quarterback, Brock Purdy.
Who, by the way, as a starter, is 18.
and four with a passer rating of 113.
J. Mack loves him.
I'm okay with him.
But he does, and last night was another example.
He stays on script and he executes.
This offensive roster, it's insane.
It's stacked.
I mean, tight end's good.
The backup running back's good.
The left tackles the best ever.
Debo, Jennings, I.U., Kittle, the other tight end.
They didn't even have their best offensive player last night.
He doesn't need more horsepower.
It's provided at left tackle, at running back one, at running back two.
From the head coach, Brandon Iyuk, Debo Samuel, George Kittle, he doesn't need more horsepower.
You can argue it's the jockey or it's the horse.
All I know is a horse.
San Francisco's offense is Seattle's slew meet Secretariat, meet C-Biscuit.
It's pro bowlers everywhere.
So what do I need more horsepower for?
The Patriots built a dynasty on do you your...
job, and that is exactly what Brock Purdy does.
He does his job.
The read, accurate, throw it to the right place, get it to the playmakers.
There is no PR guy behind the scenes talking to Shanahan and John Lynch saying, we need a new
campaign, let Purdy cook.
He's not interested.
He's more prep cook than chef.
Back, read, distribute, playmakers do the rest.
He's the classic postman.
He delivers the gifts on time.
You can give him the credit.
You can give the players the credit.
But I will say this.
I think he's literally the perfect quarterback for Kyle Shanahan.
Remember, not anybody can do this.
Let's be fair.
They wanted Trey Lance to do this.
That's why they gave up so much draft capital.
They wanted somebody else to do it.
And he couldn't.
And Brock Purdy does.
And I love watching San Francisco's offense with Brock Purdy.
He doesn't have a ton of horsepower.
Didn't have a huge arm.
He moves okay, not great.
He's not Lamar, Kyler, Josh Allen.
But that's okay.
He doesn't add lib out of the play.
Let's be honest, when you watch San Francisco and you can watch their second running back,
look like a top five running back in the league, a lot of this is Shanahan.
You know, I always said this offense is Shanahan and Christian McCaffrey.
after last night it feels more Shanahan than Christian McCaffrey
so not anybody can do this
Brock Purdy does it's just symphonic
it's beautiful it's fun to watch
and here was Kyle Shanahan
on his great
always throwing to the right spot
doing the right thing reading the right target
quarterback Brock Purdy
he seemed very very good
I mean there was many plays that he left out there
I thought he made some big time plays.
I mean, there towards the end, you know, got a little conservative,
just felt that we had the game and wanted to focus on winning the game.
So we didn't have him do a lot there at the end,
and he was very smart with the ball,
and made sure that there was no chance for them to get back in the game.
Brock Purdy is always smart with a ball.
We had Tom Brady on a couple of weeks ago, and we asked him,
what is the secret sauce for young quarterbacks?
And Tom said it's all above the shoulders.
See it, read it, let it rip, execute.
We spend so much time on size and moving and horsepower.
Yeah, I watch Brock Purdy.
This is the most fun I can have watching NFL football is watching the Niners' offense.
Would it be better if he was 6'6 and wildly athletic and not nearly as, I mean, reliably accurate, deep shots down the field that were incomplete?
I mean, when I watch this, it's like that's how football should be played.
and it feels like not only is Purdy,
lucky to have Shanahan as his first coach,
but Shanahan feels like he's lucky to have Brock Purdy,
incredibly coachable,
always throws it to the right place,
always on time,
nicely packaged,
perfect for the playmakers to execute after they get the ball.
So,
but the bigger issue for the Jets
is not just Aaron Rogers.
Again, the schedule gets really weak now.
So that should mean they won't need
errand to do a lot of lifting.
But can I ask a question?
Robert Saul is a defensive coach.
What was that defensively?
I'll try to explain it and unwrap
what I watched with the Jets defense last night.
Coming up next.

Well, as the Jets offense couldn't manage to roll downhill, the Niners did.
San Francisco's leading wide receiver last night,
Joanne Jennings is really their number three or number four target.
Here's what's remarkable.
A seventh round receiver, a undrafted running back, and a seventh round quarterback.
for the Niners,
dominated the Jets defense full of first-round picks.
Let that sit for a while.
San Francisco led the NFL in big plays last year.
They had 10 last night against the Jets' vaunted defense.
They scored on eight consecutive drives.
Robert Saul is a handsome guy with good energy.
He got worked.
He's 18 and 34, and his defense was remedial and got worked by a seventh-round receiver,
an undrafted running back and a seventh round quarterback.
You cannot win in this league unless you're great at the top.
Owner, GM, coach, quarterback.
The Jets aren't.
I mean, San Francisco did whatever they wanted.
Perhaps most troubling if you're a jet fan
is that the weakness of the Niners, this is indisputable, is the O line.
And they push the Jets back for four quarters.
Jet sweeps, traps, sweeps, sweeps,
Seam routes, underneath, bubble screens, it all worked.
And here's my question with the Jets.
What do I have?
In the AFC East, let's just take their division.
Buffalo, I know what I have, an excellent defensive coach and a superstar quarterback.
I know what I have.
In Miami, brilliant offensive coach, the fastest wide receiving core in the league,
not great in cold weather can be tremendous and warm weather.
I know what I have.
Even with the Patriots after week one,
physicality, defense, I know what I have?
What do I have with the Jets?
A now immobile 40-year-old quarterback,
a defensive coach got worked last night again,
who's 18 and 34,
a suboptimal owner and offensive coordinator.
It's a lot of flim-flam.
It's a lot of noise.
it's a lot of sizzle over substance.
What are the Jets?
They're actually their own jeopardy question.
What is the team from East Rutherford, New Jersey?
What are they?
So they're not good on defense either.
So seventh rounders and undrafted players do whatever they want against them?
The weakness of the Niners pushes them all over the field.
What are they?
I know what Buffalo is and Miami is and Kansas City is.
and Baltimore is, and the Rams are, and the lions are.
I don't know what the Jets are.
The Jets don't know what the Jets are.
Here's Robert Sala after.
When he leave football team,
and I know they were missing Christian,
but they still have Debo and Iuke and Jennings
and a really good old line and a really good quarterback.
So credit to them, like I said,
it's a championship outfit,
and they introduce to some championship football.
And we'll get that.
That's fixed.
J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
This is the herd line news.
I was texting with some Jets fans as this is what I do.
We're trying to grade on like a scale of like an A to an F
Aaron Rogers performance last night.
And I settled on like a C plus,
but it sounds like you were a little lower than that on his,
on how, what he did last night.
It's not what he did, it's what he is.
He did not move from a four-foot radius all night.
This is now what he is.
If you look at the top quarterbacks in the league, forget the throwing, make an all-throw.
Mahomes moves, Hertz moves, Lamar moves, Josh moves, even Burrow moves.
Those guys are all under 30. Yeah, it's not a surprise.
Aaron's 40 off of surgery.
He is closer to Kirk Cousins now.
Grab it, step left or right, throw.
That's what he, even Stafford moves down better than Aaron Rogers.
or at least did this weekend.
This is what he is now.
Aaron does not move.
His last year in Green Bay,
we saw that he was no longer a mobile quarterback.
He was more than this, but he was no longer mobile.
He was just a stationary, sit-in-the-pocket, static, let it rip.
And he can be beautiful.
But just know, you have no tight-end production,
a suboptimal O.C.
If Brees Hall twists an ankle, a rookie running back,
you do not have elusiveness at quarterback.
That's just what this is.
And that Tennessee Titans D line is a handful.
Ask Caleb,
ask Mobile Caleb Williams about that Titan D line.
So, I didn't get the grade.
What were you chiming in on Rogers?
I just, my question is, is he now just a B-minus guy?
Oh, well, B-minus is generous, but that's why I ask,
because I know you're like a friendly teacher when it comes to grades.
B-minus.
Well, I don't know what he, I mean, I don't know what he, I mean,
I'm watching this team.
What is the defense?
I think it's not a matter of what Aaron did last night.
What I'm watching, with all that time to prepare, this is now what he is.
Well, he did have a clean pocket for much of the night, which was nice.
They didn't really get to him, the offensive line held on.
It will not be that clean against Tennessee.
That's a much better pass rush.
You're already going 0 and 2 on the Jets, huh?
I'm not.
I'm just saying it's going to be interesting.
Blaze in five? Jets again next week?
Oh, it's already in there.
Let's start with the Packers.
Jordan Love. So he went down with that MCL sprain in his left knee. The initial timetable,
three to six weeks. But get this, Matt LaFleur hasn't even completely ruled him out for this week yet.
I couldn't give you a percentage, but if he gets cleared, we'll give him every opportunity like
we always will. And, you know, I know he's doing everything in his power. I know we're,
he's spending a lot of time trying to get back as soon as possible. But certainly we're
going to put him in a position where if he can't protect himself that he'd go out there.
If Jordan's not cleared, then we'll start Malik and Sean will be the backup.
Do we officially know it's an MCL sprain?
Yeah.
It's not a tear.
It's a sprain.
So it'll be sore.
Yeah, it might take it.
He's not risky to put the guy you just signed to a billion dollar contract, just trot him out there with an MCL spring.
Well, he played on a Friday, so two extra days, right?
So it will be sore.
First of all, this is really encouraging that he can miss one game.
Well, they're not going to win with...
Is this gamesmanship from LaFleur?
No, I don't think it is.
Remember, young athletes heal faster than old athletes.
And Green Bay does things right.
I mean, most of these young athletes get hurt.
We say eight weeks, they're back in five or six.
So, I mean, to me, this is incredibly encouraging.
Whether he play...
Maybe it is gamesmanship, but what it tells me is he's going to play not this week
the next week at minimum. And that's fine. You remember last year, Trevor Lawrence had an injury,
like a high ankle sprain, and they had a Thursday night game. And everybody said,
he's not playing, he's not playing. So I went in bed against them, right? The Saints. And
Trevor Lawrence, lo and behold, plays and is fine. I remember that. So you could be
on to something with this. Now, you could argue Trevor Lawrence playing exacerbated all the
injuries and he kept getting more hurt. Yeah. So that's probably what Green Bay is weighing now.
Willis is not beating Indianapolis. Indies a good team. So,
Indies now favored by three and a half on the road.
I think you just got to take the points with the Packers just in case love shows up, right?
Or do you take the Colts in a blowout because this is all gamesmanship?
I mean, let's just remember.
The Colts receivers were winning deep indoors in week one.
Now you go outdoors in Green Bay.
Jaya Alexander's not bad.
That's got to be Packers are passed for me.
Colts his favorites on the road. Come on.
Next up, Dallas Cowboys, Colin.
We've got to talk about him every day.
They already paid two of their top three stars in CD Lamb and Dak Prescott.
They got a combined $376 million.
Now their attention turns to Micah Parsons, who addressed his future in Dallas on his podcast.
My fans are worried about me, man.
I know I'm going to be a cowboy.
You know, there's nothing like Cowboy Nation.
I think the love is very mutual.
But as for me, man, I'm just focused on winning games.
I want to win those big games.
I want to win those playoff games.
Get to the Super Bowl.
for me the contract is not really what I'm worried about.
It's just me being the best player I can be for my guys, my teammates.
And, you know, if a contract, something like that happens furthermore up,
then that happens.
But right now, we're going to focus on just trying to be legendary.
All right.
A lot of money talk in Dallas.
The hype train is rolling in Dallas, J-Mack.
Well, if you're Parsons, basically, you saw how Jerry just dragged this stuff out with Lamb and Dack.
You don't even have to worry about it.
He's going to sign you, whether it's five.
minutes before the week one game next year?
Who cares?
Listen, as long as you
draft well, teams in this
league can pay three stars
big money.
Dak, Cedi, and Micah.
You can do it? Now, can you pay
DeMarcus Lawrence another guy on the edge when you're
paying Micah? That's the question.
Well, wait. I don't think that's the question.
You can pay three guys big money.
Can you win a Super Bowl?
Yeah, I mean, San Francisco's
paying six guys big money.
So, I mean, you can
pay three guys a lot of money, but you do have to
hit on draft picks. You do have to find guys in the third, fourth, fifth round. I mean,
again, Brock Purdy, seventh round. Joanne Jennings, seventh round. This running back kid from
Georgia Tech undrafted. You can pay, I mean, we've seen Kansas City's moved off some, but they
have Chris Jones, they have Travis Kelsey, they have Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid
versus Jack and McCarthy? Come on, no. I'm just saying is it's not that you can't pay three,
but you got to get your drafts right, and you've got to find,
what you have to do is you've got to do like the Niners.
You've got to find a lot of sixth and seventh round guys
who not just make the roster, they're productive.
Is the Rams a better comp when they went top heavy to win the Super Bowl
with Stafford Cup Donald?
And I think Jalen Ramsey was the fourth guy.
And then they moved off them for a year, rebuild.
And then last year was supposed to be another rebuild,
but it wasn't because they hit on multiple guys in the fourth fifth.
Pooka Naku is a fifth rounder.
You hit on several of those guys and get them free for four years.
Then you can pay your guys at the top.
They're going to be interesting.
You have to pay Micah.
Seedy Lamb and Dak are done.
You have to pay Mike.
At this point, yeah, you might as well.
Well, he's your peck.
He's a first round guy, so you did your job.
Reward yourself.
And I got to give the Cowboys credit.
Did you look at their box score against the Browns?
They had 17 quarterback hits.
And there was like three guys there.
I've never heard of.
DeMarvian, whoever.
I don't know these guys.
They really showed up.
Yeah, I don't think we worry about the Cowboys defense with Zimmer.
I think they'll be fine.
Now, will it be great?
I don't know.
but it'll be fine.
But you and I both know by the end of the year, nobody can stop anybody.
That's why offensive coaches keep ending up in the final four.
Nobody stops anybody at the end of the year.
You have to score.
So the notes here say Micah Parsons had 11 quarterback pressures in week one.
That's insane.
I think the Carolina Panthers, who I bet on like an idiot, had two combined in the entire game.
Micah Parsons, pretty good football player.
Final story, Colin.
How's this one?
So Lamar Jackson and the Ravens had that Thursday night loss.
right so you got some extra days off um so braven's got back at practice monday and guess it wasn't
there lamar jackson just a no show at practice and of course harbaugh got asked about it here he is
with a number of guys that weren't out there um some personal uh some some some you know physical
so you know injury report comes out wednesday afternoon so you'll be better advised on that day
regarding all those guys i don't recall lamar getting hurt i saw him get to
his bell rung like six times against the chiefs.
Well, listen, it was a very emotional loss.
Maybe he just said, I need a couple of days
to myself. Yeah, you did. You had a couple days.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday. And then Monday, back
at practice, let's go. You're the leader of the team.
You're the highest paid guy, and you're going to no-show.
I need an extra, a day off.
That's fair.
Yeah. That's fair.
Good luck, Ray.
Raiders get nine and a half in Baltimore.
Antonio Pierce bounced back.
No, you know.
The Raiders are a stay-away team.
team for me. I think they're going to be a
frustrating bet because the coach is such a coward
when it comes. He doesn't want to
go for it on fourth down. Well, that was just
one instance. Six point
game? It's like six minutes left. I didn't
like the call. Hunting from Chargers territory?
I know. I didn't like it either.
Raiders fans are like, I mean, I want to know
Devonthe Adams. That was anti-analytics.
You don't have to love analytics.
That was anti-analytics.
That's saying, I'm going 1984
football. And then the Chargers
ran it down their throat in the second half.
J-Mack with the news
Well, that's the news
And thanks for stopping by
The Heard Lye News
So I was reading a story this morning
About Baker Mayfield
Who just had a great Sunday, he really did
Baker Mayfield
holds significant advantage over
Deshawn Watson since leaving
the Cleveland Browns
So Deshawn Watson now has another charge against him
You know, it's funny, I was thinking about this
In retrospect
And it's easy to say now
Baker was probably a good fit for Cleveland.
He's a little undersized, got a chip on his shoulder.
He's an underdog for the dog pound,
and he has a combative nature for a city that's tough, Cleveland.
Deshawn Watson is just a creepy outsider that nobody wants to be close to.
And can you argue the Browns got greedy that Baker was a great fit?
Now, I'll be the first to admit.
I'm exhausted by Baker.
I think you have to move on, but I'm not from Cleveland.
Living in Cleveland would be exhausting for me.
So I don't really have an opinion on Baker and Cleveland based on anything other than sitting 2,000 miles away.
But it is interesting that the Brown sort of cast Baker Mayfield aside, as if to say, listen, we're above Baker Mayfield.
And the truth is Cleveland is Baker Mayfield.
really if you look at their id if you look at sort of their identity it's a lot of baker
it's a little undersized a little overconfident a lot of swagger an underdog feisty that's
Cleveland a little brash more than you'd like you know in those in those commercials he did
for progressive when baker lived at the stadium you know it was kind of fitting it felt like
Baker. Nobody wants Deshawn Watson in the stadium. That's for sure. Living or otherwise.
It's just not working. He looks washed. He's creepy.
But it's why, when I watched Baker this weekend in Tampa, a place I worked for a couple of years, Tampa now is perfect for him.
You know, Tom Brady comes, gets him a Super Bowl, leaves, and you're like, all right, who's our next pirate?
And it's Baker. The headband, he's definitely got that.
swash buckler attitude.
But it's really interesting.
He found his warm weather Cleveland.
Kind of a second tier franchise.
The difference is when the bucks are really good, they've won Super Bowls.
But Cleveland wanted to believe in him, got greedy and bailed.
I hope Tampa realizes, like Purdy in San Francisco.
This is a really good fit.
Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay is a really good fit.
And you watched him this weekend.
He was as good as any quarterback.
He really was.
Here was Baker on the key to his current success.
Just having fun.
I mean, yes, it's our job, but football's a game.
And just finding a joy in it.
I play my best when I'm having fun.
And this group allows me to do that.
And everybody in the building.
So I'm so thankful for them.
And like I said, keep building and keep going.
No pressure.
No massive expectations.
Tommy got him the trophy.
Can you make us?
of feisty Tampa Bay underdog.
That is Baker's brand.
This is a perfect fit for Baker Mayfield.
He probably was for Cleveland,
but they got a little greedy.
He not only became a playoff quarterback there,
he won a playoff game over his rival, the Steelers.
And they still said,
enough, we're going to elevate above Baker.
And the truth is Cleveland is Baker.
Easy for me to say now, but Cleveland is Baker.
They're not to Sean.
Nobody's happy with that.

Strong with Big Noon Saturday. Jalen Milro in fourth ranked Alabama take on Wisconsin in a huge
SEC Big Ten clash. It all starts at 10 a.m. with Big No.
Big noon kickoff live from Madison, Wisconsin.
Now it's Alabama, Wisconsin at noon on Fox.
Pretty lean college football weekend.
What do you think the spread is on that game?
Which one?
Alabama, Wisconsin.
I would say Bama minus 15.
Wow, that's good.
I did not see this.
It's a minus 16.
It's a big number.
Kalin DeBore is on our show at the very end of it today, third hour.
Yeah, he's obviously watching, so I won't say anything about the game.
Well, Alabama's going to, I think Wisconsin's going to struggle to score.
That's my take.
But I think Alabama's got to get its offense.
Listen, even though Alabama's got a lot of momentum and players,
it's a new system, a new staff.
That stuff's not easy.
Yeah, now they've got to go on the road to kind of a hostile environment.
Camp Randall is, I mean, the state of Wisconsin,
between Lambo and Cam Brandle, that's about as good as football stadiums in America.
Don't forget they got the Dells in Wisconsin as well.
Popping off in the fall.
So when Tom Brady went to Tampa,
There were uncomfortable moments.
He and Bruce Ariens and the offensive line,
they battled for a year or two.
And when Matt Stafford came to Los Angeles, it was tough.
Remember those first?
He was asking Matt Stafford to learn an entirely different offense.
It wasn't always comfortable.
Aaron went to New York and sought comfort.
Bring Nat Hackett over and Alan Lazard.
I thought it was ironic that he eyed both of them last night.
And at one point, ignoring Nat Hackett on the sidelines, just would not look at him, ignored him.
That's Aaron.
And then he also, I rolled, you know, the sigh, the strong heavy sigh with Alan Lazzard's drop early.
Now, Aaron does lead the NFL all time in free play touchdowns, which I didn't know until last night.
It doesn't surprise me.
But Aaron often projects that he lives on the edge.
He is an independent.
he does not comply.
The truth is he seeks comfort.
Aaron seeks comfort.
He wants relationships to be on his terms.
It's all about making sure Aaron's comfortable in those relationships.
There's no pushback.
And that's just not – and by the way, there is nothing wrong with seeking comfort in life or as a quarterback.
But you also have to be willing to be challenged and have uncomfortable conversations.
Hey, Aaron, you brought a lousy OC to the building.
That's on you.
Nobody else wanted him.
That's your call.
Deal with it.
That was your call.
And Alan Lazard, again, he's a number three receiver in this league.
I see what he's getting paid.
That was your call, too.
You can't distance yourself from that stuff.
So Aaron projects that he's a rebel on the edge won't comply.
But to me, he's always seeking comfort.
And some of it's good.
but I mean, John Elway and Peyton Manning in Denver.
They went back and forth on stuff.
It's not a comfort league.
It's just not the way it works.
It's difficult.
You can have stretches,
but Tom Brady never went to dinner with Belichick in 20 years.
That's a fact. Never went to dinner.
It was an uncomfortable relationship often.
Remember when Belichick finally gave him a game ball
and how awkward and cringy it looked?
There was tension for 20 years in that relationship.
Aaron will ghost you.
He doesn't want that stuff.
Well, that's part of the sport, bro.
That's part of it.
I will say we could all be negative on the Jets, but here's something.
The NFL is, don't kid yourself, they're very intentional with their schedule.
You know, fans always say rigged the game.
Oh, be quiet.
What leagues do?
You've seen this with March Madness, and you see it in the NFL.
The NFL is incredibly intentional with their schedule.
They gave Jim Harbaugh two very winnable games to start.
Caleb Williams will not face the Packers until week 11.
But, you know, meanwhile, you've got the Jets facing New England twice in the first eight weeks.
The NFL wants Aaron to win, and they want this story to be a big one for ratings.
Last night, I guarantee you it got big, big ratings.
And so if you look at this schedule at Tennessee, New England, Denver, Minnesota, that is
built for the Jets defense. Will Levis, Jacoby Brissette, a rookie, and Sam Darnold.
Then it toughens up considerably, especially down the stretch. But I do not think that this is a
coincidence. I think the NFL likes to build stories. And they're not changing who wins and loses
games, but it's an intentional schedule. But even that said, you can't manufacture a good team.
and so the Jets do not have tight-end production,
one legitimate receiver,
a now 40-year-old immobile quarterback,
and a bad play caller.
So I'm interested if Brees Hall twisted an ankle,
they're down to a rookie running back from Wisconsin.
Like, the margins for the Jets are thin.
Now, I think they're going to beat Tennessee.
I think it's going to be low scoring.
It's four points is the spread.
I just don't think Will Levis can play.
I think when you get humiliated, and the Jets defense was humiliated last night for three and a half hours, that was embarrassing.
No Christian McCaffrey, almost 200 yards rushing.
That was embarrassing.
Ten big plays by seventh rounders, undrafted play.
That was embarrassing.
The Jets defense will play with its hair on fire against Tennessee down in Nashville.
But when I watched the Jets last night, I came back to this.
I watched Kansas City and Baltimore's offenses on Thursday.
Wow.
I watched Philadelphia Green Bay offenses on Friday.
Wow.
I watched the Lions and I watched the Rams.
Talent everywhere.
Hell, Buffalo scored 34 points after a really, really turbulent start.
Like, this Jets offense, you can't manufacture things.
Aaron's not going to get super elusive.
The O line was pretty good last night,
but they are one injury away from being like a low oxygen.
offense. Like, forget high octane, low oxygen.
Breece Hall twists an ankle. It's Garrett Wilson
and 40-year-old Aaron. I'm not rooting for that. I'm just saying
I'm watching last night and I'm like, you start putting up
the skill people, the top 12 skill people in that game last night,
nine or nineers. Debo. I mean, Jennings was great.
The backup running back was great. Brock Purdy
was great. Trent was great. Kiddell. It was just one.
after another. It's so layered.
I'm not trying
to be a negative guy here. It just felt
like to me, if the
defense isn't as good as we thought,
and we don't know if the coach is the coach
in the future, what are the Jets?
J-MAC, these are serious
questions that need to be answered.
If I said to you, of all the
elements of that team that was embarrassed,
what is the one thing you
trust? What are they?
Where is the reservoir of talent?
Because I couldn't figure out why Soss Gardner
wasn't on the field last night.
Yeah, he missed like a couple series.
Mosley missed a couple series.
I don't know what was going on.
I don't trust the defensive line right now, which is weird, because we talked all
offseason.
The offensive line is the problem for the Jets, right?
Can they gel together and protect Aaron Rodgers?
They were actually...
They were fine last night.
I thought they were probably the strength of the team was that I thought Aaron got
decent protection.
I would say above decent.
Yeah, yeah.
B or B plus protection.
He wasn't under duress.
He had time to throw.
He just wasn't making the throws.
Now it's his first game in front.
500 days. I would say that I feel the most confident about the offensive line. I have large
questions about the defense. Now, I don't know if that was just the Shanahan zone running scheme,
but they were doing a lot of inside runs that the Jets didn't look ready for. Jets are getting
blown off the line of scrimmage. Trent Williams showed up like a week ago. We're like,
oh, has he been eating Cheetos for the last month? He played like every step didn't give up a
pressure. Like, it was just frustrating. Generally, people think defense is ahead of offense.
and I think it usually in the NFL maybe works that way,
unless you're considering McVeigh.
Look at the Rams' offense.
The Rams were missing.
Three offensive linemen, both tackles Pooka and Akua.
And look at their offense in the second half against Detroit.
It was brilliant.
Okay, look at Kansas City's offense.
Andy Reid, first game.
Xavier Worthies are rookie.
Rishie Rice, all the turbulence.
Didn't have good tackle play.
We were concerned.
Their offense was great.
Niners' offense was great.
You start looking around the league at the offenses that hummed.
I mean, really...
If likely's toe is in the end zone, Harbaugh instantly signal, we're going for two.
Does the narrative for the Chiefs change if that's a touchdown and they get the two-point conversion?
I don't know.
But to get back to your Jets' point, like, you know, I thought you were maybe not giving Brock pretty enough credit because Jets' elite defense.
You remember last year what they did?
Mahomes struggled, two picks.
Jalen Hurts struggled, loss.
C.J. Stroud knocked out of the game.
Jets' elite defense showed up last year against elite quarterbacks.
Brock Purdy was spectacular last night.
Do you know how many gambling influencers were saying,
one of the best bets on the board is Brock Purdy to throw an interception.
He didn't sniff into interception.
He was flawless.
Here's what's troubling, though.
He didn't have to throw into tiny windows.
People were wide open.
That's another point.
Yeah, this was...
Why the hell of the Jets playing zone when you got elite quarterbacks?
Well, ever noticed that Cooper Cup runs a 4-6 and he's always wide open?
That scheme.
When I watched the Niners last night, it's not like Jennings is a 4-3 guy.
They were all wide open.
That's scheme.
That's coaching.
If Worthy gets open for the Chiefs, that speed and scheme.
There are guys that separate.
Tyree Kill.
Jalen Waddle.
They just separate.
Cooper Cups always open.
That's scheme.
And I'm watching San Francisco last night.
And I don't know.
I'd be one thing if Purdy was delivering missiles into tiny windows.
You're like, okay, it's John Foll.
Josh Allen.
Did he do that on the IUC touchdown
catch that he dropped?
That was a great throw.
Phenomenal.
By the way, the remade Jets
offensive line,
according to PFF.
Okay.
The remade Jets offensive line
was, in week one,
27th in pass blocking.
I'm just, that's what
they do for a living.
Okay.
That's your highlight.
So it begs the question.
If that's the highlight,
what are they?
And I think
it's easier to define for any company what you are when you have good leadership.
Well, that's interesting because that 27 doesn't match the eye test, which happens.
I mean, it's not like Rogers was running for his life or getting decked.
I think he was sacked once.
But he was also getting rid of the ball pretty quickly.
Well, that's by design.
He doesn't want to be a statue in the pocket and clobbered by Bosa and company.
I don't know.
It was shucks.
If the offensive line was not good, then what was good for the Jets then?
If it wasn't the offensive line.
That's what I'm asking.
That's what I'm asking.
Thanks, Kyle Shanahan.
Thanks a lot.
Nice.
I'm asking what?
The first hour of the show is, what are they?
I don't know what they're good at.
Heard hierarchy next.
