All right, here we go. It is Thursday.
Starting point is 00:02:36 This is the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. Great show today. So in one hour, I'm going to do what I do once a year. I'm not really into mock drafts because it's just signing up to be wrong like 40 times. But I do right before every NFL draft. I do the top 15 picks. What would I do if I was the general manager of the top 15 teams drafting?
Starting point is 00:03:04 I'm not going through the entire first round. but I went through the top 15, one hour from now. Here's who I would draft based on rosters, need what you've done in free agency. This is what I would do. I've always said if I didn't do this for a living, my dream job, either a screenwriter or an NFL general manager. So in one hour, I'll be the general manager. It is great to have you in. So at the end of yesterday's show, Jordan Schultz, filling in for JMAQ this week,
Starting point is 00:03:32 in one of the herd line stories, had that Time Magazine's list. of the 100 most influential people in America, they did not have Caitlin Clark on the list, but they had two other WNBA players. And they had a bunch of other athletes. I love Jalen Hertz. I don't think he's one of the 100 most influential people. I love him.
Starting point is 00:03:54 And it struck me. I had so many people reach out to me on this yesterday. So I just want you to think of words matter, influential. Influential is the word Time Magazine used. Influential. She played one year of pro basketball in a small market for the worst team in the league. And she literally changed the entire financial makeup of the league. That defines influential.
Starting point is 00:04:23 The WNBA had its most watched season in 24 years, its highest attendance in 22 years, and set records for digital consumption and merchandise sales last year. That is all Caitlin Clark. six WNBA teams have already preemptively for their games with Caitlin Clark moved to bigger venues. Time Magazine used the word influential. I didn't. They used that word. Well, Colin, I heard this.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Colin. They gave her athlete of the year in America in December, and so there was no reason to put her off. on the April list. All right, so Time Magazine is telling me, she went from the athlete of the year in America in December, and by April, she's less influential than Brianna Stewart. Yeah, yeah, I'm not going to buy that argument. You think Hollywood in the 90s said, listen, Tom Hanks,
Starting point is 00:05:26 everything he's in is great. He's won back-to-back Oscars. But let, you know, let's share the spotlight. Nope, movie studios were fighting over Tom Hanks. Thanks. Everybody wanted Tom Hanks. Because Hollywood's gotten into trouble in the last 10 years when they've tried to make independent movies where women fall in love with fish. And now nobody goes to a theater except for Tom Cruise and Christopher Nolan big Avenger movies. Right? Like the big directors, the big stars. Play the hits. I've been doing this for 33 years. I've had a pretty good career. TV and radio. Podcasting. Play the hits. You think Fox upstairs and baseball coverage goes? You know, we've done a lot of Aaron, Judge Otani, Juan Soto. Anybody checked out the Mariners schedule lately?
Starting point is 00:06:13 Can we squeeze them in? That's never been a discussion ever here. The NFL this year literally has a new rule. You no longer have to put every team on television at least once because they realized Carolina's not well run. That's a Carolina problem. Why should I force network CBS, Fox, ABC to put on bad products? So this idea, and I'll say this, there have been a lot of great individual female athletes globally.
Starting point is 00:06:46 But in terms of North America and team sports, men have dominated. And because men have dominated this for so long, they get it. UFC. Just put John Jones and Connor McGregor on every big card. It's not about sharing. We'll pay them a fortune. the rest of the guys, we'll pay what we want to. Major League Baseball, Fox coverage,
Starting point is 00:07:07 Moro Tani and Aaron Judge, the NFL, it's funny, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, the Philadelphia Eagles. You ever notice who they put on television? Big brands all the time. The minute the Pittsburgh Steelers are uninteresting, boom, gone off. Let's put on the Detroit Lions.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Play the hits. But the WNBA last year, bless their hearts, finally got a star, and they didn't know that. They couldn't figure it out. Well, we don't, we don't want to put too much, too much Caitlin Clark on. Nope, every game, every list, every game, every contest, every all star game, every single day, all Caitlin Clark. Well, it will offend, who cares? You didn't make any money in 24 years. You're subsidized by the NBA. Who gives a rep? Who are you offending? Players that don't make revenue, you're subsidized by the NBA.
Starting point is 00:08:01 More Caitlin Clark all the time, always. Hurting feelings is the reality. ESPN and baseball right now. They've hurt each other's feelings. They'll get over it. If you don't make money, you're not a league. You can't subsidize people forever in sports. So Caitlin Clark changed the financial structure of the league.
Starting point is 00:08:24 She's not, wasn't my word. It was Time Magazine's word. They used influential. And now she's not influential. So here's a rule for anybody considering starting a league. And I do think the WNBA got so mocked and criticized, they finally figured it out. In sports, don't get caught up in sharing the spotlight. Because occasionally an athlete will be the spotlight.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Don't play nice. Play the hits. Caitlin Clark is easily the most influential athlete in a team sport since Michael Jordan. Patrick Mahomes is great. The league was doing fine. Tom Brady retired. The league's doing fine. Far, Peyton Manning left, fine.
Starting point is 00:09:19 They're great. I mean, you can argue Steph Curry is influential because of the way he changed the way basketball is played. Maybe that's the second most influential. person. But I mean, the only athlete in my lifetime I can think of that compares to Caitlin Clark, and it's not a team sport, it's golf as Tiger Woods. I mean, Tiger Woods literally got people to a television on Sunday. For a decade, it was Sopranos after Tiger Woods round. I mean, he changed American viewing habits. So just think about this. Six WNBA teams have already preemptively moved the Caitlin Clark games to bigger venues. Time Magazine,
Starting point is 00:09:58 You use the word, I didn't. You invalidated your list. You made it inauthentic because you were trying to play nice. Don't play nice. Play the hits. Okay. So, you know, I mostly, because very busy, living a very full life, I stay off X a lot. You know, it's like a conspiracy theory platform now.
Starting point is 00:10:23 I kind of stay off it. But apparently I made some news. I got a call yesterday afternoon from somebody very clear. close to the Niko Iamaliava family. So he's the quarterback at Tennessee, very good, making a lot of money, and decides, I'm not going to show up to a spring practice. And the story from Tennessee's side was he wants a bunch of money, and we're not going to give him a raise. We're already paying him $2.5 million.
Starting point is 00:10:44 We're not going to $4. Now, his family is saying that's not it. So, you've got people at Tennessee saying it's all about the money. His family say it's not about the money. It's about the fit. I don't know if going to UCLA is better. than playing at Tennessee. I think Tennessee's got better players. It makes $150 million a year. It's a huge program. I'm not sure I'd leave Tennessee for UCLA football, but he's a California kid.
Starting point is 00:11:08 So I was told in this Wild Wild West NIL era, as of yesterday, he's going to UCLA. Now, his family is saying it's not about the money. Tennessee's saying, eye roll, give me a break. So I am surprised by this because I said in Southern California, it's understood that UCLA is a basketball school. U.S. is a football school. U.S. is a football school. They got a lot more money. It's private. You can pay people whatever you want and don't have to report it. And USC, Jen Cohn, the athletic director in Lincoln Roddy, they are highly aggressive with football. They are spending a lot of money on NIL. UCLA football, I was told two years ago spent less than Utah and around what Oregon State spends. So I thought it was very probable. It would be USC as he transferred. We talked about that a couple of days ago.
Starting point is 00:11:53 But I was told yesterday by somebody close to his family, it's UCLA. Now, is it been. is it official yet that we're on day two of a 10-day portal opening it's not official yet but i was told lincoln riley loves a five-star high school football recruit that is in the program now uh hussein long street he's a very very very go to youtube great high school quarterback lincoln riley loves him doesn't want to send any bad messages or bad vibes that that kid that freshman will play at least some this year and they want they think he's going to be the future of the program and so ucla is like you know, we're going to roll the dice here. But I will say this, and I've said this before,
Starting point is 00:12:32 I don't want to hear about how all these young athletes are impoverished and you always have to take the money. I do not think money should drive decisions when you're a great young athlete. I would stay at Duke or Carolina over go to the G League over $100,000. I mean, I'm sorry, you play at Duke, you get $30 million of free marketing. The only reason I know who Zion Williamson is, he played a Duke. I'm not watching G-League or YouTube videos for high school basketball players. So I don't know if this is a good move.
Starting point is 00:13:02 But I am told somebody close to the family that UCLA's the spot. Joel Clatt, who I think we were both surprised. Joel Clatt talked about this on my show a couple days ago. I could see him back on the West Coast. I would think that he wants to be in the Big Ten, I would think. But I think he could wind up somewhere else. I think UNC is interesting, North Carolina. that's that's just to just to keep your eye on that the la schools make a lot of sense now i have
Starting point is 00:13:33 heard that there has been a huge quiet influx of ucla money that's all that so i'm not going to be shocked if he winds up at ucla um i am not tied to ucla boosters and donors i know a few u sce boosters and donors. But if Joel Klatt's hearing it, that validates it for me. So I've heard it to UCLA. He's a very talented player. He is absolutely going to be if he has a good year with UCLA or Tennessee. He's going to be a first round, second round prospect, long, tall, good arm, just needs to clean it up. But he looks the part. You know, and I mean, when I watched him, and I watched Jackson Dart and I watched both of them, if you told me one of them was going to end up eventually being an NFL star, I would have chosen this kid,
Starting point is 00:14:26 even though his game is not as clean or refined as Jackson Dart today. I did think this was interesting. This made me laugh yesterday. So, you know, full disclosure, Urban Myers is a friend. But everybody is saying, good for Tennessee for taking a stand. Urban Myers like, yeah, I've coached in the SEC. Forget this stand stuff. As a guy that's been evolved almost 40 years in this game,
Starting point is 00:14:48 I can't believe this happened. Here's the reality is Tennessee is screwed. They've got a problem. You lose a potential high draft pick. You have the backup quarterback left last year, and now you have a redshirt freshman after your nine passes and a freshman. You have zero experience. And the portal opens as we speak.
Starting point is 00:15:07 They are going to have to go get one. Yeah, I kind of get that too. So that's where we are as of now. Time magazine. Stop being nice. Stop worrying about sharing. I mean, again, men-dominated team sports in North America. It's not about that.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Just, man, play the heads. Get the stars up, front, center, rinse, repeat. Rachel Nichols in studio in an hour from now, in 45 minutes from now, I'm going to give you, if I'm the GM, here's what I do with the top 15 picks. I think the Raiders pick is fascinating. I think the Jets pick is fascinating. When I really sat down today with a 10th, team and really wrote down what I thought, I'm the general manager.
Starting point is 00:15:57 I think there's one shocker. There'll be one shocker, but I would do it if I was GM. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
Starting point is 00:16:23 but this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was...
Starting point is 00:16:42 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little note pad. Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:57 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
Starting point is 00:17:16 help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-heart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice. radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:23 And for more, follow Timbo Slicelife 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen Chinchin win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina.
Starting point is 00:18:50 But I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. All right, you are now entering the No Bull Zone Sponson. by credible great rates, none of the bull. A lot of stuff to talk about today. 40 minutes from now, my top 15 mock draft, who I would draft if I was the GM of these teams. So last night, I got to tell you a funny story. So moving some of my operations to Chicago over the next several months,
Starting point is 00:19:40 and so I bought some season tickets for the Bulls and the Blackhawks. And so my wife last night went to the Miami Heat Chicago Bulls game, and she goes, honey, did we buy tickets to a really bad team? I'm like, yes, Chicago's tanking. It's not a very good team right now. And so Miami just blasted him and clobbered him. But as I'm watching the game, I am thinking to myself, wouldn't this be a great place for Kevin Durant? I mean, Miami wins a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:05 I know Miami is known as, you know, there's an old saying, a sunny place for shady people. But the heat are grown-ups. The dolphins and the Marlins aren't. The heat are grown-ups. They haven't missed the playoffs. in back-to-back years for two decades. Nine conference finals in 20 years. They've been in two finals in the last six years,
Starting point is 00:20:29 and I don't think they have that good of talent. And Kevin Durant, he can hide. Stars hide. It's an international city. He'll hide. He'll get a major coaching upgrade, Spolstra from Budenholzer, goes to a weaker conference.
Starting point is 00:20:44 And oh, by the way, Bam out of Bayo when he played in the Olympics, Bam, a very long, athletic, excellent defender will take the tougher defensive assignment. And I'm just looking at it, and I think to myself, you could talk about the Knicks, but is Tibbs going to be there and his Tibbs a great fit for KD? Long practices, a lot of minutes. That's not what Spolster is going to do. Spolster gets stars.
Starting point is 00:21:07 The heat gets stars. Riley Lakers, heat gets stars. The Knicks, Tibbs almost feel sometimes collegiate long practices, grinding players in minutes. And then you could say the Celtics, I just don't see KD as a Boston guy. That's just me. I don't, and I don't think they're going to make that move. So I kind of have always felt like the Miami Heat are the Warriors East. Great coach, great owner, great GM, excellent culture, miss on draft picks, the whole league does.
Starting point is 00:21:38 But get the free agent signing is usually right. And I'm looking at KD, and I've told you before, I love KD, the player. He seems like a nice guy. his career moves drive me nuts, but the Miami Heat do stars well. Peyton, Shaq, Wade, LeBron, Bosch. I mean, LeBron and Butler left, but I don't know, seemed like they all got to, they get to a lot of finals in Miami, and they don't always have the best roster.
Starting point is 00:22:02 I mean, Jimmy Butler got to a couple of finals. I didn't like the roster. I like Jimmy Butler, and Tyler Hero was good last night. I'm hitting miss on him. So just a thought as I watched them, a clobber, Chicago, beginning to end last night. Katie, no state tax, winter league mostly, Pat Riley Spolstra, that feels like a good fit to me.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Jordan with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, calling the Mavericks beat the Kings. Last night to keep their playoff hopes alive, Anthony Davis. Yeah, 27 and 9. He was good. While Mr. Clay, 23 on 8 for 11, shooting very efficient after the game, Thompson told the media, quote,
Starting point is 00:22:48 we wanted to give the city of Dallas something to be proud of. Speaking of the word proud, Colin, we've talked so much about Luca and that trade going to the Lakers, but how about the fact that you have two future Hall of Famers and Clay Thompson and Anthony Davis? They got some pride too, man. And I think it'd be foolish of us as basketball fans as lovers of the NBA to put that aside and forget the fact that these guys want to do something special too. If before Kyrie Irving tore his ACL, so who knows if he comes back the same player. But before that happened, I had a very unpopular opinion. In the short term, if they were healthy, they're better than the Lakers and Luca.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Now, long term, I'm taking Luke in his prime. Of course. But they have the best center rotation in the league. before Kyrie got hurt, one of the best closers all time and certainly in the league now, under 6'4. Big athletic, they need another playmaker to take the ease and the burden off Kyrie Irving playing 38 minutes a night. But they've got a really good roster, but it all fell apart simultaneously. And so it makes the trade, which was a bad trade, look catastrophic. pick. If Kyrie was playing right now and AD and you have a healthy roster, this team's absolutely
Starting point is 00:24:11 capable of getting to the Western Conference finals. They've got good players. Most of them are banged up. Yeah, if you think about it, last season in the play-in game, Clay goes 0 for 10, 0 for 10. Yeah, last night, 8 for 11, 23 points. Oh, he played well. Speaking of pride, I mean, you're talking about a four-time NBA champion Clay. Davis is a top 75 player. It was cool to see that, at least temporarily. Derek Henry signed a two-year, $16 million contract with Baltimore in 2024, and it paid off
Starting point is 00:24:41 immediately. Henry ran for just under 2,000 yards, had a league high 16 tuds. The Ravens could extend the 31-year-old running back to give the team more cat flexibility and keep him in Baltimore long term. Here's Ravens GM, Eric DeCosta, talking about his running back. We have a lot of different balls in the air right now.
Starting point is 00:25:01 That's probably what I would say on that. I'm not going to talk about what we're doing, what we're not doing behind the scenes business-wise with these guys. I don't think it's good for me to do that. We're blessed to have a bunch of really good players, and we're going to try and keep as many of those guys as we can. You know, it's interesting because we saw it last year with Sekewon. Now, the Philadelphia Eagles just extended Barclay, and he has two years or had two years left on his contract. It would make a lot of sense, too much sense for me. when I think about the Ravens to extend Derek Kennedy.
Starting point is 00:25:32 They have other guys, Linderbom, Kyle Hamilton, Isaiah Likley, other guys that could extend. Well, he's one of their six core players. To me, it's a no-brainer. Yeah. He already proved his worth. I can see moving off Mark Edwards, the tight end. Mark Andrews, yeah. Mark Andrews.
Starting point is 00:25:47 It's a good tight-end draft. Yeah. He's getting more banged up. That's a tough physical position. Tight-ins can age very, very quickly. I like Mark Andrews, but I would move off him at this point if I had to save money. I get that move. But there's no downside, right, to extending Derek Henry.
Starting point is 00:26:01 He is a unicorn. He's 31. He plays like he's 25. There's no age there. Okay, this is pretty cool. Shohei Otani continues to impress. He blasted his leadoff home run 448 feet. Wow.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Oh, look at that. Oh! Now Otani's tie for the league lead in front month for six. Oh, my Lord. But this is his 12th homer, Colin, of over 445 feet. Now, why does that matter? Otani's got more home runs of over 445 than any other Dodger
Starting point is 00:26:32 since they've started tracking the stat a decade ago he's been on the team a little over a year That's not that far from leaving the stadium That is a bomb He was seen pouring his teammates water by the way This is how unselfish this guy is There was a great clip of him He's getting water, it looks like he's Thursday
Starting point is 00:26:50 No, he's actually getting water for his teammates I would argue Colin And I'm curious where you're at on this Is this the greatest free agency signing in MLB history? Well, he's the greatest player in baseball history. He's the most skilled player of all time. Yeah, I mean, I believe two years ago, the Dodgers said, because the Dodgers spent money. And a couple years ago, they started restructuring deals and spent a little less than usual.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I think the Dodgers saw several years ago this is a better version of Babe Ruth. And he's such a good... Honestly, he looks like a movie star. He is such a good-looking humble kid. It's just amazing. Yeah, it's interesting because I'm in New York. That's where I live.
Starting point is 00:27:43 We have Aaron Judge, who's kind of our version of Otani, maybe not quite the same. And I was at a Yankee game the other day, and people were talking about Aaron Judge and how great he is. And I asked a couple of Yankee fans, I said, would you take Otani over Judge? And they both said, you know, we love Judge, we loved. But yes, Otani is the only guy that transcends the sport, truly.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Absolutely. So he's perfect for L.A. Baseball is lucky right now. If you look at baseball's best players, and this isn't always the case. They're big. Well, they're all good guys. Bryce Harper's a great guy. Mookie Betts is a great guy.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Crowd's boring, but a great guy. Oltony, Aaron, Judge. Like, it does matter that the guys that are front and center are, like, good people. That doesn't always work that way. You can get some, you know, problematic guys. But baseball's got it humming right now. Their stars are in the right market. And they're all, like, friendly, humble, good teammates.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Like, it's a good spot. I would agree. Jordan with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd-line news. You know, it's, there's a... an old saying don't outthink the room. And maybe it's a guy thing, but sometimes, you know,
Starting point is 00:28:57 I'm trying to be smart and I'm breaking something down and I've got a big decision in my life. And I've had smarter people than me say, you know, maybe it's an agent, maybe it's a boss or something somebody says, yeah, I wouldn't outthink the room on this. And so, you know, I'm hearing all these stories about Shadur Sanders, Dion's son, dropping in the draft. So let's say that happens, and he becomes really good. I want you to think about a few things. Are we overthinking the room? So, number one, he's the son of a legend.
Starting point is 00:29:35 That's worked a few times. He was not only accurate, with an atrocious O line, he is the most accurate college quarterback ever. Major conference, 74%. He actually played very well, unlike Jackson Dart. against the best teams. He didn't have to win. He played well.
Starting point is 00:29:58 He carried a battle line and no run game to 33 points a game. So if you don't draft him in your Cleveland or the Giants or maybe even the Jets, are you going to look up and go, yeah. Yeah, we probably outfought the room.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Like, I always understood passing on Josh Allen, who's amazing. He didn't get any college scoff. He went to a juco. He was crazy wild. Greg CoSell told me going into his last year at college. He goes, keep your eye on this kid.
Starting point is 00:30:30 So I watched him against Oregon and Iowa. He was a turnover machine. He was inaccurate. He was wild. Played small college football. Like I get people going, yeah, I like him, but we want to win now, and he's like three years away. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:30:45 I look at Shudor Sanders. He checks a lot of boxes. And this whole thing about, well, he doesn't. doesn't have any great traits. Okay, I want you to think about this. This is out think in the room. How many great quarterbacks are there in the NFL? Like Lamar's great, Mahalms great, Burrell, great, Allen great.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Now I would say Matt Stafford, Jalen Hertz, there's C.J. Straub, there's some really, really, really good guys. And Stafford may be great. Aaron was years ago. So there's five or six great quarterbacks. 14 teams make the playoffs, meaning good, or very good quarterbacks get you to the playoffs. And in the NFL, what you're trying to avoid is what the Colts have going,
Starting point is 00:31:33 which is, you know, this is not working at all at quarterback. That because the Colts have the GM, they got the coach, they got a good roster. Yeah, this isn't working at all. I got 50 college games, 74% completion percentage, battle line, 33 a game, you keep telling me he's not mobile I keep watching the film he's mobile it's not Lamar mobile but he's not Jared Goff he's more than mobile mean Mahomes you know you watch Mahomes and you see oh that's great get great out of here good makes the playoffs Trevor Lawrence has made the playoffs Kirk Cousins Jared Goff good makes the
Starting point is 00:32:20 playoffs so good is clearly good enough for your franchise to be playing in January. Isn't that really what it's about? I mean, Tua, I've said this about Tua. I'm not a huge Tua fan. Two is good.
Starting point is 00:32:36 I don't think he's very good, but he's good. And Tua got the bag, and everybody on their show. I mean, DAC is good. Now, I wouldn't pay Dac great money, but Dax's good. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:52 I just, I think sometimes, I think, you know, Joel Clatt on Tuesday discussed what makes him NFL ready. You cannot question his accuracy. He is lethal. He can put the football in a shoebox, really anywhere on the field, mostly inside the numbers. I've told you how bad Colorado was before they got there. And everybody immediately talks about the Coach Prime effect or the Travis Hunter effect. What took them from one win to nine wins was, yes, those guys, but mainly it was Shador.
Starting point is 00:33:28 It was the fact that he was a great quarterback. Yeah, I don't know. So I will have my mock draft in 25 minutes of the top 15 teams. And there are certain teams in this league. I don't know how you pass on him. I don't really get it. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:34:54 We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it. One of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:35:47 or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
Starting point is 00:36:07 help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get. your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:37:11 TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian win. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:37:39 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Tonight, it's an AL Central showdown as Bobby Witt Jr. leads the Royals that gets the Tigers 630 Eastern right here on FS1. Okay, I'm very excited. I do it once a year. I'm going to do my mock draft,
Starting point is 00:38:16 top 15 draft picks at the top of next hour. I've told you before, I'm delusional if I didn't do this, which is pretty easy compared to a screenwriter or an NFL general manager, I would want to be a GM. But when I went to school, my college, Eastern Washington University, did not have a major in NFL personnel. So I ended up talking. But I love this.
Starting point is 00:38:42 I'm into it. You know I love the draft. And so we're going to do that in 20 minutes. I'm going to have a mock draft, and I'll give you reasons. I think it's well thought out. I think, you know, I may miss on 14 or 15, but I really think I'm right. It's almost like when you buy a powerball ticket, I start thinking, you know, I could use a boat, a second car. I've already won the thing every time I play it, and I know I'm looking at this mock draft,
Starting point is 00:39:05 and I'm like, these teams are idiotic if they don't listen to me. These are brilliant picks. I think you'll enjoy it. We'll say that. Okay. So a lot of times there is because something is great for a long time
Starting point is 00:39:19 it sort of gets embedded with us it may be a local restaurant that's good for a long time and even if the service gets bad you're kind of used to it, you love it and you keep going and I would give you an example Boeing I grew up in the Pacific Northwest Boeing was very prideful leading exporter in the U.S., you know
Starting point is 00:39:37 the pride of American engineering and Boeing's having troubles. If you Googled problems with Boeing right now, you know, since 2018, $51 billion in operating losses, and they just had a door plug recently rip off a plane at 33,000 feet. Boeing, you know, the term now to talk about Boeing should be, if it's Boeing, I'm not going. It's struggling as a company, and they've had whistleblowers and problems. and, I mean, there's controversy every 15 minutes with Boeing. It makes me think about the planes I'm flying, seriously.
Starting point is 00:40:17 And I think the Pittsburgh Steelers have become that. If I said to you, there's this NFL team, well, who? Just listen. They haven't won a playoff game in eight years. And it's April, mid-April. They don't know who their starting quarterback is. Does that sound like a well-run operation? Diana Rusini yesterday.
Starting point is 00:40:40 We talked about the Steelers Aaron Rogers. Here she is. I think Aaron Rogers is definitely sitting back going, I want to go to a place where I can drop right in like Tom Brady did in Tampa Bay and win a Super Bowl this year. I don't think the Pittsburgh Steelers are built to win. I can tell you I spoke to Pittsburgh this morning. No updates.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Think about this. No updates right now at this point as we're a week out from the draft. They still have no idea whether or not Aaron Rogers. is going to sign with it. They still want them, but I just think Aaron knows he's got the leverage in the situation here, and he may just sit this thing out and wait. It's April.
Starting point is 00:41:21 I mean, the teams that are well-run in this league, like the Chiefs and the Rams, have moved off, like Super Bowl-level quarterbacks or playoff-level quarterbacks. Steelers don't have a quarterback. So now, I believe, I've said this, Aaron's too smart to make a dumb decision. I don't think Pittsburgh fits at all. Now, I could be wrong.
Starting point is 00:41:42 He'd make a big announcement, and I could be wrong. But if you wanted to be a stealer, my guess is he would be a stealer right now. If Aaron wanted to be a stealer, he'd be a stealer. He would have announced it two weeks ago. And so I think the smart move here for Aaron Rogers, the very smart move is, hey, I'm going to wait for the draft and see where the chips fall on quarterbacks. I don't want to become Kirk Cousins, an older quarterback. I go to a team. Then they draft a quarterback, and there's controversy, and the young quarterback.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I mean, Aaron doesn't want to go somewhere where they draft a quarterback, and the young quarterback's getting snaps attention. And if he has a bad game, everybody's like, play the young guy. They don't want to go there. So I think Aaron smartly is sitting back and going, yeah, I'm not really interested in rolling the dice with Pittsburgh. So that's my take. here's another story that is listen
Starting point is 00:42:36 I know that all you guys I see the reaction Bill Belichick dating a girl in his 20s it's kind of icky you know like 15 years younger than his son it's whatever I'm not a moralist whatever
Starting point is 00:42:55 I'm not even going to tell you what my wife said but um so Belichick's girlfriend and told North Carolina not to introduce Steve Belichick as Bill's son to combat nepotism claims. Like we can't all figure out that his son. Whatever. So what I think is interesting about Belichick in college. So I initially strongly believed that he showed no indications of ever wanting to coach in college.
Starting point is 00:43:24 You know, believe what people show you and tell you. Believe their actions. Bill was a bad drafter. He didn't watch college football. on Saturdays, he wasn't sitting down watching UCLA and Oregon State, clearly. He didn't draft well. The coaches that really
Starting point is 00:43:39 draft well or have a draft feel like Jimmy Johnson loved college football. I know I work with Jimmy. Jimmy loves watching college football. That's why he was so good drafting it when he became a cowboy coach. Right? Bill doesn't. And so my initial take is it would be like a gap year.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Carolina was going to be like a layover in an airport, right? A couple hours. And that his contract even stipulated he could leave pretty quickly. And that he would go to Philadelphia or Buffalo. Well, they like Sean McDermott and Buffalo and Siriani just won a Super Bowl. So, you know, Bill's staying at Carolina for the time being. But I will tell you, the other thing that's really clear is he doesn't appear to have a lot of NFL interest. That was clear.
Starting point is 00:44:27 and the couple organizations that I thought he would go back for, one just won the Super Bowl, that's clear. And I do think, you know, dating somebody in their 20s feels a little awkward. It's one of those things among guys. You're like, thumbs up. In the corporate world of the NFL, it would be a little wonky. So I do think Bill's going to stay at college football.
Starting point is 00:44:53 I did not think this six months to a year ago. I think he just stay at college football. ball. I think he'll be pretty successful because I think now you don't have to go, you know, beat the bushes for high school players. You can go buy college kids. The NIL helps Bill. But, you know, the whole girlfriend thing, she's kind of like running his brand now. And it's, I mean, I, again, I'm not a moralist, whatever, but it's just, it's just a little odd to me. And I do not think it's viewed by the NFL as, you know, copacist. It's kind of like, you know, Belichick's also 73.
Starting point is 00:45:32 And he's not a Pete Carroll 70. Pete Carroll's like young and joyful and fun and laughing and aspirational. Pete is a different personality. I had said Raiders go hire Pete, Bears, hire Pete. Like Pete's, some people are 70 and feel 50. Nick Sabin's close to 70. Nick Sabin feels mid-50s. He's talking a mile a minute.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Belichick looks his age and kind of is grumpy like his age. And so, I don't know. When I watch the whole New England thing, I'm fascinated by it. Carolina is the Patriot way in a year going to be dude lost his way? Because I'm just watching all this internet stuff and the girlfriend, and I'm not judging. You do you. But it is weird, and I don't think people in the NFL look at it and go, yeah. Yeah, this is a guy that is current.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Like, he went to ESPN and Bill's one of those guys that when he looks. laughs on TV, it looks like he's struggling to laugh. Like, it's not natural and fun, and it's kind of, it felt a little forced, courtesy laugh. And so he was trying to rebrand. And I get it, I'm not, you know, whatever, she's probably a wonderful person. But as I watch this whole thing, and I'm seeing the video this week, and she's kind of running the show, I'm like, Jordan, it, it, this feels a little odd. The video of her that we just saw, where she walks off to him with practice, there's a ton of guys running her. It's weird. It's just weird.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Okay. And I understand that they've been dating. They're in a relationship. This is it right here. Yeah, yeah. What is she, what is her authority? Nothing against her. But what is her authority? This is not a personal attack. No. What it is the winningest football coach in the history of the NFL, the most important coach since Bill Walsh. I mean, he's on the Mount Rushmore, and he goes to college, and I didn't really buy it.
Starting point is 00:47:22 But I hope he does well because I like college football, and I'd love to watch him. And, you know, listen, in Bill We Trust, I sat at the other company and for 10 years, watched every Patriot game practice, anything I can get my hands on. I'm rooting for him. But I, this, I mean, you can't avoid with all the social platforms. Now, you can't avoid this stuff. No. If you turn your phone on, these images of Bill, the girlfriend, Carolina, are flying in. What are you talking about at practice?
Starting point is 00:47:46 I don't get it. Why is she there? There's no other girlfriend or spouse at a practice. You know what it shows me he's staying in college? Because. Because he's smart enough to know. He knows he can do that in college. Yeah, he's smart enough to know that, you know, there's some owners are looking at it going, you know, all right.
Starting point is 00:48:04 I don't get it. You said the word icky. That's, it's just. And I'm not judging on that. I'm not a moralist. I'm specifically talking about her at practice. It just doesn't send a good message. That's, that's.
Starting point is 00:48:16 Yeah. And you and I are not. I mean, I know you well enough, even though I blew you off for dinner last night. You did blow me out for dinner. Although, you know, listen, you didn't feel well. I didn't. I didn't. I went to the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:48:25 By myself, had a glass of wine. I still don't feel well, but I'm not missing my mock draft day. So it's just, you know, I don't think I come across as a moralist, but stuff can be off-putting. It's just like, eh. Yeah, that's it. Off-putting, good word. If you went with your wife and my wife to dinner and with a 70-year-old and the girlfriend was 20, we'd be talking about it.
Starting point is 00:48:51 I mean, whatever. That would be the entire topic of conversation after dinner. Hey, what do you think about that? Maybe I'm being too judgy. Whatever. Okay. Rachel Nichols, the mock draft that nobody's been waiting for. The mock draft I'm waiting for, and I believe these are smart picks, I'm the GM.
Starting point is 00:49:11 This is what I would do based on your free agency, your needs, your lack of production, contracts. You know, I'm going to look at the top 15 team. This is what I would do. Not sure how many will be right, but it's. next hour to The Hurt. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
Starting point is 00:49:29 I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. Nice. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:49:38 We get to ask other people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
