The herd hierarchy. Pretty easy at the top. Not so easy at the bottom. What do we do with the Dallas Cowboys? What do we do with the Seattle Seahawks? Jay Mack, we had trade deadline today at one right after our show at 1 o'clock Pacific. The NFL trade deadline. There's a lot of teams out there.

Green Bay is one of them. What do they do? Pittsburgh, what do they do? Are you a buyer? Are you a seller? Bears yesterday were sellers. I loved it. Ravens were buyers.

Win-win for both teams there. But, Colin, we could have a lot of breaking news this show if there are trades happening. Fast and furious. Listen, it was an exciting Halloween night for me last night. I should note, several people. People came up to me and were mentioning your donuts comment to me yesterday. I know. Selling me out for the donuts.

I was cracking up in the streets. Well, the streets. You hang out on the streets. That's what I do. Let's start with this. I begged the Chicago Bears. I begged the Chicago Bears before the season. Trade Roquan Smith.

I know he's a great player. You're spending too much money in the front seven defensively. It's not winning enough games. Trade him. Go get Justin Fields help. See if the kid can play. Go buy him a left tackle. spend money on offense.

My entire life, the Chicago Bears have been the irresponsible family member that spends money on the wrong stuff. And yesterday, by getting more good draft picks for a linebacker, the Bears yesterday finally went and said, you know what? I think I'm going to start a 401k and put money on a nice house.

They grew up. Listen, Baltimore gets a really good player. But Baltimore's in the Super Bowl bubble. Chicago has a young quarterback. They don't know what they have. Offensively, it's an anemic roster outside of maybe tight end, one back and one receiver. We don't know if any of their offensive linemen are any good. But due to this trade, now they have a first round pick.

Two seconds, a third, two fourths, two fifths. Oh, what do you know? And a hundred plus million cap space. Go buy the best left tackle in the NFL. Go buy two receivers. You don't have to spend top of the market. But go get two real nice receivers to play with Darnel Mooney. Then go draft another wide receiver for Cole Comet.

Get another running back. Another interior offensive lineman. I would have hired an offensive coach. But Matt Eberflus appears to know what he's doing. And Luke Getsey, the offensive coordinator with smoke and mirrors, I think's doing a pretty good job considering they have one legitimate wide receiver. I think Luke Getsy at OC's done a really good job. But Chicago's entire football identity in my life is, we're tough guys over here.

And you're losers. Get smarter. How about get people that can catch a football, highly trained and skilled offensive people? How about innovate? Don't go nostalgic. This is a great move. You've got to figure out if Justin Fields can play. It's not a coincidence.

At the minute they gave Josh Allen, Stefan Diggs, he got real. The minute Jalen Hertz got A.J. Brown, pow, Tua gets Tyreek Hill. Whoa! DeAngelo Hopkins to Kyler Murray. Oh, that's interesting. You got to give Justin Fields a chance. Now you've got lots of draft picks. By the way, you know, Seattle this year hit on like their first five picks.

That's unheard of in the NFL. Well, it's a math equation. It's a numbers game. Now Chicago's got, you know, a couple of seconds, a couple of force, a couple of fifths. They can still make more moves. Get three seconds. You're going to hit on one, miss on another, and in the middle on another. It's a numbers game.

You need draft picks. You need capital. You don't want too much of one. Chicago now has quickly built both. And they're looking through the windshield, not clinging to the net. 1985 Chicago Bears and three times a year for a home game bringing them out to celebrate. It's over. It's over.

It was over in the 90s. It was over in 1986. It's 2022. Love the move by the Bears. Who knows if they spend the money wisely? Who knows if the players they draft offensively work? Who knows if Justin Fields is the guy. But there's something there with Justin Fields.

I see enough I like that he just needs a little jet fuel, like a second receiver, maybe a third, a second tied in. This is not a knock on the Ravens. I think for where they are right now, they got a tackling machine and a playmaker. I like it for them too. But Chicago's the story here. Baltimore always wins.

Chicago never does. And I love what the Bears finally were willing to do. Spend the money wisely. All right. Charles Robinson, smart guy. rights for Yahoo. He had an article today saying it's the NFL trade deadline. What do the Packers do? And his take was, smart guy that he says Green Bay's not one move away. Don't sell out your future. And it made me think a lot about Green Bay. It really did. We were talking about this as a staff this

morning. Green Bay is in a weird spot where they've been stuck ever since they drafted Jordan Love. The Green Bay Packers have been stuck in, do we care about the present or the future. They got Jordan Love to protect their future. They could have gotten a receiver. They could have gotten a star. They could have gone out and gotten a star. They gave up the first round of the draft for a Utah state quarterback that was a 50-50 proposition at worst. They moved up for it. They gave up picks for it. So they really weren't into the present. They were really protecting the future. And then they found out, oh hell, Aaron's still great. Lom. Wasted. draft pick. Are you into the present? If you are, I'd go get a receiver. Or is it about the future?

Zadarius Smith, you let him go to a rival in division. He is crushing it. Okay, so you don't care about the present. But then you paid Aaron 50 million large. You do care about the present. But then you drafted a linebacker in the first round last year instead of getting him a receiver. It's about the future. In Devante Adams, you got draft picks with him, so it's about the future. But you did pay Aaron 50, and you got him Randall Cobb, and he doesn't have a future. So Green Bay, you're at an inflection point. You're one game out of the playoffs, and you have Aaron Rogers. It is about the present. You have a roster full of talented guys. You have a back-to-back MVP. Go get Chase Claypool, DJ Moore. Even a Jerry Judy would help.

Go look at right now. To prove my point, go look. And we all know this to be true. Best quarterbacks win the divisions. Best quarterbacks win Super Bowls. Best quarterbacks usually end up in conference championships. Look at the quarterbacks right now in the NFC playoffs. Daniel Jones, Marcus Mariotta, Jalen Hertz, Jimmy Garoppolo, Gino Smith, DAC, Kirk Cousins who shrinks. And Aaron Rogers. And you're telling me it's not about the present. Ever since that Jordan love pick, you've waffled on this. Are we building for the future? Is it about now? Listen, the minute you paid Aaron Rogers 50 large and he's waffling back and forth on retirement, you can talk about the future. You're always protecting.

You're the classic, you know, you never pull out of the 401K. The NFL, to some degree, is the opposite of a 401. K. If you're in the Super Bowl bubble, pull money out for a short-term solution only. Screw the future. You're not going to draft another Aaron Rogers. You're not going to go from Farr to Aaron Rogers to Mahomes. You know how lucky and rare it is to go from Farr to Rogers? Make a move. You keep going back and forth. Does the present matter? Does the future matter? You let Zadaria Smith go. You won't go get a wide receiver. You drafted Jordan Love. So it must about tomorrow.

You do get that for the next two years probably, maybe three, but let's say two, you have a quarterback that's top five in the league in talent. And you're not going to draft that again. You're going to be too good to get the draft pick to get it. You're not going to get a top seven or eight draft pick. And that's where a lot of the Hall of Famers come from. All right. So I disagree there with that writer for Yahoo.

You can be a smart guy and I can disagree. start looking at those NFC playoff quarterbacks. I mean, it's a lot of guys that I have to defend Jimmy Garoppolo and nobody likes him. I'm one of the few people that like him. I defend Kirk Cousins. Nobody likes him. Those are two of the better guys you can face in the playoffs right now. It is a steady diet this morning of Gino Smith and Marcus Marriota and go for it.

All right, what to make of the Bengals. Also, a report on the Raiders is their head. coaching spot potentially open, herd hierarchy, and an Indiana pacer comes out and basically says, Lakers, please trade for me. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.

I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Thought Cincinnati would pull it out, didn't. But we were three and two, our blazing five, back to back to. back winning weeks. We're on a roll. We feel good about that. But Cleveland went on. They have dominated this mostly because Miles Garrett is unblockable, and the O line for the Bengals has struggled with Miles Garrett. They did again. Jemar Chase was out. Star receivers matter. Ask Aaron Rogers.

But you look at the Bengals this year, they're now four and four, a really talented four and four. And you look at the Rams, and they're really talented three and four. And they were both in the Super Bowl. Once again proving for the umpteenth time, it is a year, two-year league. This is why I defend the Niners going for Christian McCaffrey, and the Eagles for getting Robert Quinn, and the Ravens

forgetting Roquan Smith. It's why the bills got Von Miller this year and why the Rams got OBJ and Von Miller last year. If you believe you're in the Super Bowl bubble, go for it. It's like I said last segment. It's kind of the opposite of a 401K.

in the NFL, sometimes you pull money out just to win now and only now and to hell with the future. And that's why I'll always support teams like the Niners and the Eagles and the Ravens who go buy a playmaker. But it also speaks to how impressive Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs are. They've been together five years, but let's count four because that's when they started working together every Sunday. in four years, two Super Bowls and four conference championships. And what makes that really impressive in a year-to-year league, in three of those four years, they've had an absolute rebuild. One year, they had to rebuild the defense.

Another year, that being last year, they had to rebuild the entire offensive line. This year, no Tyreek Hill, they had to rebuild the wide receiving core. And yet once again for the Chiefs, there is no drop-off. That is when you have a Hall of Fame coach and a Hall of Fame quarterback, when you have to do annual rebuilds of units. And there is absolutely no drop-off. What Cincinnati is realizing, and the Rams are now, if you think you're in the bubble, go for it.

Story this morning, the Rams offered two first-round picks for Carolina, Rush and Brian Burns. Their takeaway is, Jalen Ramsey Prime, Aaron Donald Prime, Cooper Cup Prime, Matt Stafford Prime, Sean McVeigh Prime. Let's go get a prime edge rusher. We didn't want to pay for Von Miller. We can afford Brian Burns. I'm not against it.

I don't know if they're in the Super Bowl bubble, but I will say this. Brian Burns, better pass rush, get the ball back. You'd be closer to it. So when people are freaking out about draft picks, just remember this. It is a year-to-year league. Belichick Brady were an exception. Mahomes and Reader an exception. and you may be looking at the two best coaches ever

and the two best quarterbacks ever. That is an outlier. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. How was your Halloween, by the way, Colin? I went out and had a steak with my beautiful wife.

Our neighborhood does not have a lot of trick-and-treaters. The one we used to live in Manhattan Beach had a ton, so we'd just sit outside and have a cocktail, and the kids were amazing. But where I live now, there's not as many trick- or treaters. So I went to a restaurant. There was nobody there and looked into my wife's eyes and you know that kind of thing. Are you a medium rarest kind of guy for steak? I am with horseradish.

It was a wonderful night. Yes. No A1, huh? All right. Tom Brady and the Bucks, they're on a Cold Street, Colin. Lost three straight and they're two games below 500. Brady and the Bucks, unfamiliar territory. And Brady's talking about the matchup with the Rams this weekend on Fox.

Here's what he had to say. I'm glad it's unfamiliar. and I want this to be as unfamiliar as possible. So losing sucks. And we've put a lot into winning just like every team does. No one's feeling sorry for the bucks. We know that. And we've got to go change it.

So I think the attitude is there's no surrender. All as we can do is learn from the last eight weeks and try to apply it in a winning way this week. And it's a big challenge for us. So we're going to see what we're made of. And I think time will tell all. I know this isn't the only reason. But the minute the Packers let go of Corey Lindley at center, it's not the same offensive line.

The minute Ryan Jensen got hurt for the bucks, they can't run the football. I have watched multiple teams this year, loses center, a center's out, and they come unglued. We all know left tackles matter. But I feel so much of this is they can't run the football and they lost arguably a top two center in the league. Remember how bad the Chargers were when they lost Lindsay for a couple of games? and they were on a third string center. It was Justin Herbert, whose big, mobile and strong, was getting crushed. I think it all goes back to camp.

The interior of the O-line, specifically, Jensen, gone. They've never run the football as good. You can blame Leonard Fernette, but we know what playoff Lenny's all about. In the big games, he shows up. I'll never doubt Lenny Fernette. He always comes up in big games. I think a lot of Tom's issues, obviously it's a marital situation, but they just not as good in the interior,

their own line and they've never been the same. And it's interesting because when they lost Gronk, who's a great blocking tight end, remember? If Gron's in the game, you don't know if they're running or passing. When Cam Brate, their tight end was in, you know it's a pass because he can't block. That's right. And for some reason, Collins, very interesting. They're playing a new guy, Otto, what is his last name at tight end? Brady didn't even target him except once last week. No, it's, uh, Otten. Otten, that's there you go. Kade Otten, who is, never heard of that guy. No, but he's actually, he was at the University of Washington. I watched him playing high school. I thought was the most underrated tight-in in the draft.

He's going to be a good player. I don't know if he's any good. Well, he's okay now. But you know this. Tom Brady likes veterans. They brought in Kyle Rudolph, who barely is playing. And you wonder, who's calling the shots there. Is Brady out of, he's not able to say, give me a veteran tight end.

He's not asking for young guys. I think something's going on in there because they know this is Brady's final year. By the way, Colin, weird scheduling cork. Only two games at 4 p.m. this weekend. Yes, Seahawks, Arizona is one of them. It's not a great game. And what's the other one? This Rams Bucks game.

By the way, I think Seahawks, Arizona's a good game. Last time it was 199. I don't know. I think all Seahawks going. You're all in on the Seahawks. What's not to like? Me shaving the Seahawks insignia in my head after the season when they finish over 500. All right, next up, the Browns.

Obviously, they won their fifth straight game last night against the Bengals. Stefanski just owns Zach Taylor. This was bad Zach Taylor last night, right? He looked so lost without Jamar Chase. Again, every time I watch these two teams play, Cleveland gets unbelievable pressure on Burrough. Miles Garrett. Yeah, Miles Garrett is insane. He may be the best.

Lyle Collins was abused. Yeah. It was embarrassing. But listen, we've said this before. Cleveland's got good players. This is, Cleveland can't get the quarterback right because of, you know, Deshaun Watson. Cleveland's got top 7, eight roster in the league in terms of total players once Deshaun Watson is starting. So their win last night, I do wonder, are they moving Kareem Hunt today?

Because remember, he's probably going to be a cap casualty because Watson is the big money guy next year. And if they had lost, I think Kareem Hunt's probably gone to a contender. Now do you keep him and say, you know what, maybe we can make it happen with Dishon Watson and get to the playoffs later this season? It'll be interesting to see if they're a buyer or seller today. I think I'd move him. By the way, have you seen the memes going around about your guy, Joe Burrow without Jemar Chase? He's Andy Dalton. He's Johnny Mansell.

He's Bakerman. It's pretty funny. The internet sometimes is funny. Burrow did kind of look not great. Remember a week ago today, you were calling them like the fourth best team in the league. Time out. It's a game. The Chiefs lost to the Colts.

Tom Brady was crushed by Carolina. It's the NFL last year. The Jets beat the number one-seated Titans. It happens. It's Halloween. There's weird stuff in the air. There's Kit Kat. Weird stuff in the air.

The aroma of snickers in the air. It's a weird night. I know the audience loves when you defend. You just dig your heels. It's fine. He's a good quarterback, obviously. All right, finally, trade deadline for Eastern today. And Jerry Jones's Cowboys, are they going to look to Annie up and make a run at the Eagles?

Jerry was asked, you know, because he does radio hits all the time, about the deadline today. He was asked about it on 105-3, The Fan. And, you know, Jerry Jones is what he does. He stirs the pot. This is an area where aggressiveness trying to go after and make something happen. and it's got to come to you, but we've got some things that are coming our way. It's different than it was 10 years ago. That never crossed my mind 10 years ago that you might be running out of time.

It does cross my mind now. Consequently, I don't have time to have a bad time. My schedule has tightened up, and I have a little less cruising time and a little more doing time. He's got all those good Texas cliches. Yes. How would Brandon Cooks look in the white and silver? Not bad. You know, you and I have said this.

Obviously, it's a great defense. They found Tony Pollard's their wand. Dak is a very, very good complimentary piece. You can't drive around, Dak. They look like a team that could win a playoff game. The concern is C.D. Lamb gets hurt. Not a lot of juice. And Brandon Cooks can run.

He's had some concussion issues and missed games. but there's a reason he, you know, work. He's a hard worker. He can get down the field and stretch it. I think that makes a lot of sense. And again, Jerry, it's now time. You're paying DAC that big money. To me, Dallas, it's now time.

I know I mentioned this yesterday. We agree that the Eagles and the Niners are the two best teams in the NFC right now, right? Absolutely. Are the Cowboys the third best team in the NFC? If you believe that, I'm not sure I do, but it's an argument. If you believe that, that's another reason. reason to go get Brandon Cook. Okay. So who is the third? Well, I'm saying is the first two

are absolute. Obvious. And then there's a class of, you know, I mean, if Brian Burns went and gone to the Rams yesterday. That's not going to do it. The Rams have no offensive line, Colin. Cooper Cup hurt his ankle. They're saying, oh, there's some tissue injury. He should be good. He should be good to go.

They're not going to be able to move the ball in the Bucks. Because you saw Warren Sapp calling out the Bucks defense. I don't know if we're going to do that later in the show. Like calling out Devin White. We could do that if you put it in. I mean, he shredded him on Instagram. And it was like, I do not want to be the Rams going to Tampa this weekend. Listen, man. Rams are looking. All right. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News. So there are a lot of rumors out there.

Here's something you and I all know. There's going to be at least seven NFL head coaching openings. My guess is eight. But we'll go with seven because that's kind of the average. So Raiders owner Mark Davis yesterday refuted the rumors and said Josh McDaniels is going nowhere. He is our coach now and for the foreseeable future. So if we eliminate the Raiders from having a job opening, and I don't think it's fair to hire a guy, I think Josh is a bright guy, Derek Carr's not his quarterback, their defense is terrible. So we know this to be true. There's going to be at least seven NFL job.

openings. Let's start with that number. And we also know that Sean Payton is the best head coaching candidate available on the market since Andy Reid was. I've been interviewing Sean Peyton six of the last seven weeks here for a half hour. It's the smartest coach I've ever talked to on a regular basis. And you don't even get to hear the stuff off the air. He is functioning at an incredibly, he's going a million miles an hour upstairs. Sean is really bright. and so the question is Sean Payton, he's at Fox now, we're all realistic here, could easily go next year and get a job.

So let's just guess the seven job openings, the ones that feel like they're trending. And let's be reasonable about this. Okay, the Panthers already have an opening. It does look like Denver and the Colts feel like pretty solid. The owner's going to step in and make a move. The lions say they won't, but Arizona just re-signed Cliff Kingsbury.

At some point, you may have to make a move. Dan Snyder, I don't trust. Look at the commander's schedule in the last six weeks, a lot of losses. And then the Chargers. I know, I know, they just hired him. You can't miss the playoffs again with Justin Herbert, being the best quarterback in the league, two straight years that misses the playoffs.

There's only one of those jobs that is a great job. one the chargers why there's six to seven positions you have to get right in the league left tackle they've got it center they've got it quarterback they've got it weapons they've got it edge rush or bosa they've got it corner asante samuel junior they got it that's the job oh by the way sean payton is during this football season living part-time in los angeles so that's going to be very interesting. We will have seven job openings. All those teams outside of Carolina are denying it today. All of them steadfastly denying it. If you take the Raiders out, and I'm not so sure the Raiders wouldn't make a move, but let's take them off the board because the owner has put his name on it and it's out

there. There is one quarterback, left tackle, corner, edge rusher, weapons. You're not even paying Herbert yet. That's a job. That is a really, really good job. I don't think the Raiders, is a bad job. But if the owner's going to come out and put his name on it and say, you know, we're keeping our guy, then okay, I believe you. If Dean Spanos came out today and said that, okay, I'd take the chargers off the list. But last year, all of a sudden Gruden got whacked. Urban Meyer did.

You looked up. How many new coaches this year? I don't even know. Is it eight? So I'll go to low number seven. Guys like Sean Payton, they're not going to a team without a quarterback. They're also not going to somebody that doesn't have five or six key positions filled. I think it's an easy one.

I think it's not only an easy one, but a really, really easy one. Raiders, I think, would be attractive, but the owner says we're not open for business. J. Mack said, Colin, we could have moves during the show. We just had a biggie. Do we have a siren or anything that we could just set off? The Vikings are getting it. They're super talented, young tight end from Detroit. T.J. Hawkinson. The Vikings get him and a couple of fourth round picks down the road. The Lions get a seven.

second round pick this draft and a third round pick next draft, but you don't know what draft picks are going to be. The Vikings with an offensive coach now have Adam Thielen, Justin Jefferson, very talented big T.J. Hawkinson, Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, an offensive coach that now knows how to make this stuff bake and work. They already lead the division. They're pulling away. But by the way, Green Bay, you just sit back there idly. I got news for you. This is a, this is a, what we've talked about. The NFL at times, if you're in a Super Bowl bubble, it's the opposite of a 401k. You just pull money out, spend it for the short term only. And that's, Vikings are saying,

we don't care about these draft picks. We want a star tight end. Albert Breyer is going to join us now live. First of all, I don't know what it says for Detroit. It's not great for Dan Campbell. What do you make of the new? I think he's a really, really good tight end. Yeah, I do too. You know, And I think for the Vikings, this is sort of an effort to give yourself what you had for all of those years in Kyle Rudolph. There's a compliment to Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. And, you know, I really kind of go back to the summer, Colin here. And the approach that Kevin and Quasi, their new head coach and new general manager, were taking. And, I mean, one thing I can tell you, talking to those guys in the spring, the summer, the fall,

that they kept emphasizing was what Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer left for them in Minnesota. was pretty good from a cultural standpoint, pretty good from a talent standpoint. And that was one of the big reasons why they didn't tear anything down. They said, we're going to build on this. And we're going to invest in the locker room that we have because we believe the right guys are already here.

And the 6 and 1 start reinforces that I don't think people realize there's three games up on the Packers right now in the NFC North. Like a couple more things happen. And that thing could be over. Right. So, you know, I think it's a great indicator of where the Vikings are what was left behind for for for for Kevin O'Connell and quasi Adolfo Menza and where they think they can take this team now.

Yeah. I just you know, you look at the Vikings now and this is really just more or less moving two picks down like you said. It's moving a second down to the fourth round and a third down to the fourth round. And to get a guy who's got the ability to be an elite tight end who was a top 10 pick. Yeah. You know, I really love the move for the Vikings. Yep, and Vikings are doing basically what the Niners did with McCaffrey.

They're like, listen, we feel in the NFC, we're in an elite two or three group class. We're going for it. Adding a playmaker, the NFL's pivoted to offense. We're moving to offense. I think Minnesota, you've got to celebrate this puppy today. If you're a Viking player in that locker room, you got Zadarius Smith from the Packers and T.J. Hawkinson from the Lions in division. You've got to feel great about where you are. That's the other thing though, Colin, I wouldn't underrate what you're saying there.

Like the guys in that locker room, this is an implicit message to them. The same way the McCaffrey move was for the Niners locker room, we believe in you. Like, we think we've got the right guys here. And we're doubling down on right now. And, you know, even though those guys are new and I know that's like one of those things for players, like, you know, you're a third or a fourth or a fifth year player. Yeah. And, you know, you see a new coach and GM come in. Your head's on a swivel.

You know, for them coming in and blowing things up. To me, if you're a player in that locker, a veteran player, a guy who's been there a long time, like Kirk Cousins are in Adam Thielen, you know, or on defense, a Harrison Smith or Eric Hendricks, like you're looking at this and you're saying to yourself, these guys believe in us. And I think that that can be energizing for a team.

Okay, there's a lot of talk with the Raiders. Their owner came out yesterday, said Josh McDaniels is fine. Derek Carr's having a horrible year. Josh Canola is going a meeting and say, hey, I inherited this guy. This isn't my quarterback. There's a lot of rumors so many that Mark Davis had to come out. I think this is a pretty good job. Free agents.

Guys would love to live in Vegas. No state tax. Warm weather in the winter. Hunter Renfro, Devonte Adams, Colton Miller's a left tackle, Josh Jacobs, Darren Walrus, players everywhere here offensively. Mark Davis comes out and says that. Do you now believe it's off the table? Or is this just saving the locker room for the rest of the

season. Yeah, I think they're going to give a time. I mean, and I think Josh McDaniels has, you know, more than just the rest this year to prove that he's the right guy. Look, like, I think there are a couple things there that, you know, maybe they were wrong on. Again, I know the Raiders felt like the same way the Vikings felt that they were close. Like that team that they had last year was not far off from being a real contender. And, you know, the moves that would, that they made in the offseason, validate that going and getting Chandler Jones from Arizona, going and trading for Devante Adams from Green Bay. I think one of the things that I think they had an idea could be problematic early

in their time there in the spring and the summer have sort of been like ripped open and now look like a massive problem. And that to me is the middle of the defense. Like looking right up the middle of the defense on the edges, right up the middle of the defense. It's a problem. It's a lot of their teams to control games against them. I mean, look, like I still think the Raiders have a chance to get to 500. the end of the year. I think the talent's there to do it

is just going to be on Josh McDaniels and his staff to coach around the flaws in the team. And, you know, through two months now, they haven't done a good enough job of that. But I really do think that Mark Davis believes in the group he's put in the building, the relationships they've been able to build the, put,

they've been able to build over the last few years in the program that they've got in place now. So I don't think this is going to be a one in time. I'll tell you this. What the Bears did is hard to do. They have been grabbing and clinching to the 1985 bears

for my entire adult life it feels like they lead with defense, they pay linebackers, it's the culture in Chicago, we're tough guys, and I love what they're doing, which is what they're saying is, you know what, we want picks, we want cap space, we are going to give Justin Fields

a chance to prove he's great. If you name the best Chicago Bear wide receiver in the franchise history, you have to go back to like Mike Ditka is the best target they've ever had. I think they're making a pivot as a franchise. We are going to figure out if this kid can play. I thought it was a great move by the Bears, even though you lose a playmaker, but he's not winning in the division now. So what's the point? That's my take. Well, and I think part of it

too, Roquan's a great player. But I think part of it's fit too. And it's a realization of where you're at. And I think the danger in playing well, and the bears have played well early. We talked about this last week, Colin, for Matt Iberfluse, is that you get drunk on that early success and you lose perspective for where you are. I don't think there's any question the bears are probably two off-seasons away from being where they need to be.

So that's the first thing is that through playing hard and playing tough and beating the Patriots last week and hanging with the Cowboys this week, the Bears could have been susceptible to veering from the planet, and they haven't. And I think that's a credit to Ryan Poles and Matt Iberflus. Also remember

where Ryan Poles came from. came from Kansas City. What did Kansas City do for its young quarterback? It loaded the team around him. And this is setting the bears up in that way. Again, like Roquine's a really good player, but they made the decision they weren't going to pay him at the top of the linebacker market.

He's not exactly a perfect fit for Matt Eber Fluse's defense. If you look at what Matt Eber Fluse had in Indianapolis, bigger, longer linebackers like Shaq Leonard, good as Roquan is, that's not who he is. And so, you know, I think what they look at here was, this guy's probably not going to be on the team next year. We're not building for right now. So, like, let's go see what we can do to put some more capital into the war chest for

2023. And if you look at what they've got now, is three picks in the first two rounds in April, seven picks in the first five rounds in April. And, oh, by the way, $120 million in cap space. And it'll be interesting to see if they're done. Because they've got a couple of pieces in their roster right now, and David Montgomery and Eddie Jackson, who could be valuable to us. teams. But I really like where the bears are going right now and that the team's locked in

and playing really hard for Matt Eberflus and you see them sort of sticking to the plan when it would have been easy to veer from the plan over the last couple of weeks. All right. T.J. Hawkinson is going from the Lions to the Vikings, adding another element to a really good offense. We love the move. Is there something today, we presume Green Bay won't make a move? Let's pivot back to the Packers. I think you can. got to go for a DJ more. I said earlier, they've been waffling on, are we into the present, or are we into the future? They give up Zadaria Smith. They draft Jordan Love. Okay, it's the future. Then you pay Aaron 50. Okay, so it's the present. I think they need to make a receiver move.

I mean, do you think the Packers will make a move today? Would there be a player they may look at? Yeah, there are a couple players out there. New England has receivers that are on the block. I think you could probably get Kendrick Bourne or Nelson Nagler out of there. the Steelers are an interesting team to call. If you want Chase Claypool, I think the price is around a third round pick, and the Packers have talked to the Steelers. So that'd be another one. DJ Moore, I think the cost might be prohibitive.

He might be talking about a first round pick and something else for him. But Claypool would be an interesting one. And I think it is incumbent on Brian Goodakun, their general manager, to at least look at this right now based on the environment, changing in their division a little bit with what Minnesota is doing here. And it's also interesting talking to, coaches, you know, across the league about what they face in the Green Bay offense over the first two months of the season and where the problem is.

Colin, one of the main problems is Aaron doesn't like receivers motioning and moving around, which is part of what Matt LaFleur has been running for, you know, over the course of his career as an NFL coach. And he likes everything being stagnant, which is how Peyton Manning was because he wants to be able to look at the defense. And that means you need receivers who can beat man coverage. That was what Devonte Adams did for the Packers. He opened things up for everybody else because he could beat man coverage.

They don't have that guy right now. The hope is Romeo Dobbs and Christian Watson can develop into that guy, but they don't have that guy right now. Claypool could be that guy for him. Down the line, maybe Odell Beckham could be that guy for them. But they've got to make a real determination, I think, today ahead of the trade deadline, and looking at this and saying, are Dobbs and Watson going to get there this year? This isn't about whether they get there in 23 or 24.

Are they going to get there this year and change the dynamic for our offense? That's something that the Packers have to reckon with before 4 p.m. today. Yeah, they always felt like post- Thanksgiving. Romeo Dobbs, by the way, is a really good player. I wouldn't be shocked if he had a great post- Thanksgiving season. If he popped, it wouldn't surprise me at all. But still, I still think he would be a two in this league. And Alan Lazard's a three.

So to me, if you get DJ Moore, that's a one and that's a real receiving court because I like their tight end as well. Albert Breer. Right. You have one more thing to add to that? Yeah, no, no, no. I'm just saying it's like one of those things. Everything falls into place when you have the number one.

Like in a lot of cases, if you have the number one guy, now you're starting to slot guys in where they should fit. So I think it totally makes sense. What you're saying is if you get a real number one in there, do you believe Claypool is that guy? Maybe, maybe not. DJ Moore certainly is. Yes. It would change the dynamic for the younger guys in that offense. Good stuff.

Albert Brear. Thanks, Albert. Monday morning quarterback covering the NFL for over 15 years. Yeah, it is amazing. It's like in baseball we always talk about. You know, you go get a one. Then your ace becomes a two. Your two becomes a three, and it changes the dynamic.

but you put DJ more on Green Bay. Then Romeo Dobbs, who is emerging. He's better today than he was a month ago. Post Thanksgiving, he is a deep threat. I mean, he can really move. He can't be your one as a rookie. Could he be a really good two? And then Alan Lazard is more of a three.

Then you're Randall, calm, or Sammy Watkins, that you can't depend on physically because of their health and age. They're fours. You have a good tight end. Aaron Jones is an excellent receiver as a back. That's a real offense. Boktiari goes back, plays left tackle. right now, if you don't have a number one and you don't, and you're going to try to fake it

with Romeo Dobbs, you're not, I mean, with what Minnesota did today, you're not a, you're not a player. And to me, DJ Moore is a, I mean, he's a classic, really good player that you don't watch. None of us watch because he's in Carolina. He's a really good wide receiver. But Colin, he took his helmet off to celebrate against the Falcons. How could you like DJ? He's probably a backwards hat kind of guy. You know what? I heard, somebody made the argument that he took his helmet off, he was out of the end. Outside of the end zone, which is legal. Rules of the law. Hey, quick word on the Hawkinson

deal. Do you remember when they went to Philadelphia outdoors on Monday night football? And not in the dome setting, and they couldn't move the football. Like, the Eagles were all over Justin Jefferson. Hockinson will open the middle of the field. He's one of these rugged Iowa dudes. No, Iowa does. This is such a great get for Kirk Cousins.
