Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
Starting point is 00:01:18 You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis'clock, he's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the,
Starting point is 00:01:30 IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was. Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro. And these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets. He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move.
Starting point is 00:01:51 And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off. And that was the last time I saw him. Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the
Starting point is 00:02:18 iHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. To Fox Sports Radio. Oh, here we go. What a night in the association. It's the herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. Well, J-MAC, as a Knicks fan, probably feeling really good right about now. Giddy, downright giddy about not only the Knicks winning,
Starting point is 00:02:53 but how about the Chokeloma City Thunder? Absolutely gagging, Colin. I was laughing. It's not a cliche. When we say, don't trust you. young teams in the playoffs. They would have been better off being on the road. They could feel it.
Starting point is 00:03:11 They got tight. Their coach got tight. Everybody got tight. Said Homewoods. Wow. All right. Let's start with this. Okay, the Celtics lost at home.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Bizarrely, they're not even that good at home. They're actually a better road team. Nick fans, I've never seen a game one upset that means less. This is the only game the Knicks are going to win. Boston's not going to miss 45-3s. I know, enjoy the moment, Nick fans. You are feeling it today. Oh, give me a break.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Boston got a 20-point lead. They hammered this team all year. They fell asleep. And then they just took bad shots. Jason Tatum, he froze. He does that from time to time. He does it much more than any of his fan boys want to admit. It was the classic Jason Tatum game late, where you're like, is he on the floor?
Starting point is 00:03:59 Is he playing? Where's Jason Tatum? But the Knicks wings, OG played well, Mikhail Bridges, they were running off shooters, defended well, they deserved credit, but the Celtics had the third fewest layups in the league and the fewest free throws. What does it mean?
Starting point is 00:04:16 Shots. They don't. They just live and die with a three. And like those great warrior teams, when Steph and Clay weren't hitting them, they had bad nights. They got blown out multiple times in the finals. So, I mean, Boston, they don't get layups.
Starting point is 00:04:29 they don't shoot mid-range, they don't get to the free throw line, they're shooting 63s. And last night, I mean, in the second half in overtime, or second half, yeah, an overtime, yeah, they shot 49 shots, 37 were threes. And I will defend Jason Tatum later on in this show because I think he's a little bit trapped with this team. But the reality is you see this from Boston, and strangely, it's often at home. They're a great road team. They're a better road team than a home team. But they have these nights. And, you know, Jason Tatum, nobody wants to admit it.
Starting point is 00:05:05 But he has these collaborative nights where he's just settling for bad shots. And again, I think he could draw more fouls, but this is what Boston is. They're going to be fine. The Knicks have absolute offensive limitations. It's going to be okay. Boston's not going to shoot like this. I mean, the first quarter was classic Knicks. They were out playing Boston.
Starting point is 00:05:29 was rusty and the Knicks kept missing free throws. They couldn't get the free throws right. I was on Moneyline Knicks first quarter to, J-Mack. They couldn't hit free throws. So the Knicks have an absolute ceiling, but Boston, they give you one of these every so often. And I've said before, they remind me a lot of the Warriors team, but back when the Warriors were shooting all the threes, the rest of the league was not. But Boston leads the league in threes. They don't get to the free throw line. They don't create layups or mid-range shots. So when they have one of these awful shooting halves, I mean, they led by 20, they dominate this team. And we've said this all the time in the NFL. You'll see a team lead 28 to 7 at half, and the game ends like 31, 27, and you're
Starting point is 00:06:15 like, we were so close. And it's like, not really. It's hard to ask athletes who dominate an opponent over and over and over to always bring their A game. And Boston had to, you know, a bad second half, settled for too many bad shots. And here's Jalen Brown after the loss. I feel like we just settled in the second half a lot. Some of them felt good. Some of them felt like we maybe forced the issue. Definitely our rhythm and our timing was a little bit off. We got a lot of great looks. In those moments when the other team got momentum, we can't just fire up threes. You know, to break up momentum, we got to get to the free-to-the-line, get to the pain, a basket. They're going to be just fine. And Jason Tatum is going to be just fine. And I'll
Starting point is 00:07:05 defend him in about 10 minutes. All right, let's go to the opposite of the Boston Celtics. Literally the opposite team, the Denver Nuggets, who was an underdog, went into O KC and dominated the late game situations. The Nuggets shoot the fewest threes in the NBA. They live at the free throw line because Yokic can create so many opportunities around the basket. And Yokic, unlike Tatum, is a coach on the floor, does not care if he offends people, is mostly collaborative, but sometimes he takes over. And if you go to the fourth quarter, OKC got tight. The young, nervous, at times terrified thunder at home froze.
Starting point is 00:07:51 They froze. And this was Yokic at his best. coaching and playing. He is the anti-Kauai. He communicates with everybody. I mean, obviously, he empowers Aaron Gordon and Russell Westbrook, but it should be noted, Jamal Murray as well. I mean, this right now, there was a time when Michael Jordan, I've told the story before. I was on a couch watching Michael Jordan against the Phoenix Suns in the final. And with a friend who's a great basketball player, and I said, why can't there be more Michaels? I mean, he's not the strongest player or the biggest player. He's not the best ball handler or the best shooter. The NBA average size is 6-6. He's 6-6. He's 6.6.
Starting point is 00:08:34 I mean, I know he can jump, but Dominique had a higher vertical. Michael was so much better than even Charles Barkley. You know, like even Akeem. And you watch Yokic, he is so far and away the best basketball player in the world. And now he's also the best player coach, which Bill Russell did for a while. I mean, you got Tatum, he can freeze, you got Janus, don't trust him late, can't hit a free throw, you got Embed, he's never healthy, you got Kauai, weird personality, you've got Luca, who's not in great shape and is not willing to defend, and for the record, not only is Yokic flawless offensively,
Starting point is 00:09:11 he's actually an improved defensive player. He looks like he's in better shape. So again, this game was not just Yokic, although he was remarkable. Westbrook, once again, gives you so many tools in the bag. including improved shooting. Congrats to a shooting coach. Also, Aaron Gordon is another one of these guys. I was talking before the show to J-MAC. That young player for Houston, I love Amman Thompson.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Aaron Gordon's like a bigger, stronger, more experienced version of Amend Thompson. He just does everything. Rebounds, block shots, late in games, tipping it, defending, length, relentless, energy. And he hits the game winner last night. And what I love about Yokic is this mentality. Here's an organization that went through a coaching change a week before the playoffs. So you can see Yokic on the sideline. He's literally like, you know, we're all like, we've got to be included in this.
Starting point is 00:10:07 If you go back to that Clipper Denver series, this is what the Clippers needed. And they have a great coach in Tailu. But Kauai doesn't provide that. And Hardin certainly doesn't provide that. It's always excuses for those two. Here is Yokic saying, yeah, I'm not going to be stoic. It's not a time to be stoic. He is coaching, he is playing, he is elevating, but, but again, not at all, a guy that has to take the last shot.
Starting point is 00:10:35 It's Westbrook and Aaron Gordon who combined for the last shot, and here's Yokic after. He's the soul of this team, he's a blue guy, he probably doesn't give them much respect that he deserves, but I think he doesn't need leg attention, so he knows what he's doing, so I'm happy for him. a remarkable, remarkable night. And we were talking about this. There are a lot of cliches in basketball, right, in all sports, but don't trust young guys in the playoffs. People always say to me,
Starting point is 00:11:03 how come you don't respect O KC? It's not that I don't respect them. I don't trust them. I respect a lot of people. Love many. Trust few. I don't trust OKC in a big spot. Chet Holmgren was nervous.
Starting point is 00:11:17 The coach was nervous. And, by the way, OKC is one of those collaborative teams. You get it. get it, but be honest with you, I want SGA with the ball. That's who I want shooting every shot, eight straight. I wish Tatum, you know, SGA in the regular season, he's a machine. But when you get into these playoff games, that's why OKC played no close games this year. Minnesota led the NBA in close games and clutch moments. So here you get OKC rolling
Starting point is 00:11:48 everybody, and it's like, oh wait, we're the favorite. Denver's older and wiser. How many playoff games is Westbrook and Yokch and Murray and Gordon? OKC got tight. They're not in close games. This isn't college football where if you're winning by three touchdowns, you just have better players. I mean, I would argue OKC's got a deeper roster, but if you're giving me a starting five, and I get Yokicch and Murray and Gordon, and then I get like a Westbrook who's a spark plug,
Starting point is 00:12:22 we talked about this yesterday the betting markets have okay c is an overwhelming favorite time out young teams do not sweep veteran teams with a trophy who have been in these games
Starting point is 00:12:35 we've been trying to bury the warriors for six years Denver's not going anywhere that is a really good team J. Mack by the way Steph didn't play last night LeBron didn't play last night and the league was fine
Starting point is 00:12:50 well it's one night We get Jalen Brunson last night putting on a... How good is Jailen? We need to start, honestly, putting him in context with his greatness. Jalen Brunson is magnificent to watch. I know you love him, right? Yes, I'm one of your favorite players. I really, really like him as a player.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Now, next hour to start, Nick Wright, but I am... So I do four predictions before the NFL season. This will be my second. Okay, so I do the coaching and free agencies all done, and then I do the coaching, free agency draft is all done. So 45 minutes from now, I'll tell you who I have some changes, mostly middle and bottom of divisions.
Starting point is 00:13:31 You're not going to like all of them. And then we have Nick Wright as well. Are the 49ers on your playoff? Are they in there? Just missed by six games. Six games. So we got a good show today. Last night was so much fun.

We have some big news.
Starting point is 00:14:15 What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:14:31 So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And... Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:50 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand, because I,
Starting point is 00:15:48 competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jen she went. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:16:24 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So, listen, I could beat up on Jason Tatum today, but there's so much I like about him. Smart, thoughtful, collaborative, good teammate, great player. So let me put this, you know, Phil Jackson is the greatest, basketball coach and Steve Kerr's pretty good and so is Spolstra. There's a lot of good coaches, Popovich. But Phil Jackson was the Zenmaster and he did the triangle offense. But there
Starting point is 00:17:25 was also times that Phil knew, I'm going back up. Kobe's on a heater. I'm going to let Michael do what Michael's doing. And I say this all the time about business. You can't get too rigid. You've got to make exceptions. Every day at this company, you got to make an exception. You can have values. You can have vision. But here's where I'm going to defend Jason Tatum. So we had another one of those nights where he lacked aggressiveness, and it looks like he was one in nine in
Starting point is 00:17:54 fourth quarter and overtime. So, listen, Steph had bad nights. I saw a finals game, Michael Jordan against Utah. He had a bad night. Kobe had bad nights. Shack had bad nights. That's okay. What I don't want is my super talented athletic 6-8 wing with great handles
Starting point is 00:18:10 settling for threes. But the Celtics three-point culture is demanding it. So it puts Jason Tatum a collaborative nice guy in a weird spot. His free throw numbers have gone down three straight years. Why? Because the Celtics want more threes. And if you shoot threes, you don't get to the free throw line. That's why it took Jimmy Butler for the Warriors to finally get to the three-point line.
Starting point is 00:18:30 So Tatum can easily beat guys off the dribble all night long. But he keeps getting to the free throw line less and less because the Celtics are paralyzed. They have this culture where they're just paralyzed. We've got to shoot 55 threes. And I think it puts down. Jason Tatum, a nice guy and a collaborative guy in a weird spot. So last night, I mean, again, if Kobe was on this team, he would get Missoula fired. I mean, Michael Jordan would have Missoula going upstairs daily.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Michael would fight this stuff, and Phil Jackson understood, sometimes you just got to let special happen. And last night, nine seconds left, game is tied. I don't want a three from Jason Tatum. I want to buck it, put it on the deck, and beat your man, which, by the way, he can. He's a brilliant basketball player. But to sell things, shoot more threes. I mean, they literally last in the NBA in free throw attempts and third to last in layups.
Starting point is 00:19:34 It's like when they're bad, they just settle. And so I think there are coaches. Sometimes I think Jason Tatum should just impose his will and deal with the repercussions. later. Who cares if Missoula yells at you? They're not going to fire Tatum. They'd move off a coach before they'd move off Jason Tatum. But this is just this, it's kind of like Bobby Knight
Starting point is 00:19:55 Basketball, right? Like, this is the way we play. Basketball players more than any athlete, along with soccer stars, they're artists. You have to let them improvise. Basketball at its best, they call soccer the beautiful game because it is. The great players, they just
Starting point is 00:20:11 need opportunities. You just got to let Ronaldo do his thing. play out of structure from time to time. It doesn't mean you're blowing up structure. He, you're not creating a precedent. Just Jason Tatum's the best player. Dude, it's your ball. Next three.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Just get to the basket, get to the line. Get out of the culture in the system that's paralyzed by three. So again, Tatum is such a nice guy, and he is such a great collaborative player that I watch his body language. There are times it's like, and you can watch him put the ball in the deck and immediately beat his guy. He could get to the basket all night long. But he's going to play within the system. He's a Duke guy, and he's a Celtic guy, and the culture does work. But last night, you got nine seconds left, and it's again, Jason, just go get fouled. He's a brilliant player
Starting point is 00:21:03 who I believe at times, not all the time, but at times feels he's a little trapped by this three-point culture that doesn't want mid-range. I mean, look. Look at the shots, fourth quarter and overtime. Look at the second half shots for the Celtics. I mean, they just settle. That's what they do. That's why they never get to the free throw line. That's why the Warriors before.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Jimmy, they don't get to the free throw line. Here's Tatum after. How do you not let you're frustrating with lack of calls prevents you from attacking if you don't think you're going to get a call? Is that connected at all? No, that doesn't connect. I mean, it's the playoffs. Like, you know, we probably should just play without the rest.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Like we use how physical it is. So, you know, that don't really cross my mind at all. By the way, Matt Stafford's Super Bowl. Yeah, I'm not even going to look where I'm throwing. Remember Sean McVan, the sidelines with Aaron Donald? Aaron's going to blow this play up. Lawrence Taylor sometimes. Lawrence is going to line up where Lawrence wants to line up.
Starting point is 00:22:10 I'm not anti-structure. But Jason Tatum can beat every guy, every week. in the league, he can beat off the dribble four out of five times. Sometimes I'm not looking for a three. I'm looking for a bucket. J. Mack with the news. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:22:29 This is the herd line news. Caught me off guard a little bit there, Colin. I like you saying nice things about it. You got to come into the show well-rested. I keep you on your toes. My guy, Jason Zatim. Well, let's go to a guy. I don't know if you're in on him yet. Luca Donchich. He is Los Angeles Laker. They lose in the
Starting point is 00:22:44 first round. However, The Lakers are reportedly fully committed to Luka now ahead of a possible extension negotiation this summer. Luca's no longer eligible for that $345 million supermax, but he could still make a four-year $228 million deal with the Lakers. Colin, this feels like a no-brainer. You get in a Luca business. Let's load up. Let's get him on a weight program, perhaps.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I don't know, get him on the LeBron workout. Well, Anthony Davis, give the Lakers credit. Davis who used to make fun of the dad bod. He is last couple years in L.A. He was in great shape. He wasn't injured. So, I mean, I tend to think the you age very, you've ever seen anybody that's like 60 years old and they look great. I don't have to see what they had for dinner.
Starting point is 00:23:33 I know it was fish. I know they don't smoke or drink too much. Like, you can watch an NBA player. Look at Dwayne Wade. I knew Dwayne Wade was really intentional with his diet and his boss. Like you can even see to me, I don't know what he weighs, but Yokic looks in better shape this year than last. And he's a better defender. Luca doesn't look like.
Starting point is 00:23:56 He's terribly intentional about the diet and being in the world's best shape. Yeah. Unfortunately, that's fair. I will say the numbers that they split up with Luca and without him for the Lakers, shocker, without Luca, they were actually kind of sort of good. Defensively is the one to watch, though. Everybody thinks like, oh, Luca's so bad. defensively, there was really no margin there.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Well, that's because people score on the Lakers regardless because they don't have a rim protect. They don't have a rim protect. Hey, the Knicks don't have a rim protector, and the Celtics decided let's shoot 63s. I don't know. I think the Lakers are going to be fine. Again, go get Miles Turner.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Let's not trade Austin Reeves. Let's not overreact. They're going to be fine. Next up, another NBA story. Now, Colin, I firmly believe we should be doing Janus as often as Aaron Rogers because he is on the way out the door in Milwaukee. according to Howard Beck of the Ringer. And I need you to listen to this because it's a little sucks.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Well, Howard's been around a long time. He has been around a long time. Not a newsbreaker, but just a solid reporter. He's saying that it looks like early on, Yannis could be headed to a big market team. Here we go. It's the Damien Lillard conundrum, where it's like maybe we should have moved off of him sooner,
Starting point is 00:25:07 but you can't trade Damien Lillard unless he has to be traded. Oh, he has to be traded. Cool. All right. Now let's move. I think it's the same thing with Milwaukee. Does Janus ask out? But if he does, does he have a list?
Starting point is 00:25:16 Some rumblings that it's already just the big cities, it's, you know, one of the LA teams or one of the New York teams, or maybe, you know, Miami not big market, but glamour market, mid-sized market. I think they threw Chicago in there. I can't remember if Houston came up. It should. Guys, it's Houston. Houston makes sense. They have a lot of ammo. Oh, they've got four good young, but now they're going to want Shangoon, and I would demand it.
Starting point is 00:25:39 But Houston will make this work in a second. And by the way, if Houston would make it work, they would keep amend Thompson for sure. But the truth is, Milwaukee, when you give up a superstar, you're not going to win the trade. Right. But that doesn't mean when Milwaukee got rid mid-70s of L.L. Center at the time, they were relevant for a decade because they got so much back. So Milwaukee is going to get a haul. Don't just get draft picks. Obviously, you can't in the NBA because of salaries.
Starting point is 00:26:09 And don't just get players. You need a combination of both because draft picks miss in the NBA about 40, 50% of the time. And players, by the way, are going to be asked to carry more of a load than they currently probably do in Houston. So you're asking young players to go to Milwaukee in the deal and now star where they're just supportive players. And you don't know if they'll be stars. Will Javari Smith, if you move it, would he be a star? Is he just going to be a guy who's athletic? Houston's to play.
Starting point is 00:26:38 Houston clearly makes sense because of the trade capital. I'm sorry. I'm not buying this LA teams. How the hell are the clippers getting yonis? They have no ammunition. No. It's not happening. These teams are Miami. I know that's a luxury market, but they don't have anything.
Starting point is 00:26:52 The cupboard is bare. They're not a good basketball. L.A. teams are not getting yon. So that's the only reason I'm poking holes in this. By the way. I'm just telling you, don't rule out a team like the Orlando Magic, Colin. They've got some really good young players. The Wagner brothers are good.
Starting point is 00:27:04 And a bunch of picks. Like, I don't buy the Brooklyn stuff. They just have nothing. But Houston obviously makes the most sense. If you can keep Amman Thompson, Shengoon, and Janus, that's formidable. Here's a kid from Greece. You don't think he'd like that Orlando and Houston weather? I mean, seriously, no state tax.
Starting point is 00:27:21 I've never been to Greece. Have you been to Greece? It's beautiful. I've seen pictures. It's very warm. I thought you were Mr. Worldly Traveling. They had a hit song yesterday. You read to me that sounded like the music industry there needs an upgrade.
Starting point is 00:27:35 All right. The final story here is a whopper. Okay. Okay. So Tyreek Hill is. kind of sort of a crazy person, and he was asked by somebody who his top five quarterbacks in the NFL are, and he just happened to leave someone off the list. Here we go. Can I rank my top five quarterbacks?
Starting point is 00:27:54 Umar, Josh, Pat, obviously. No, this is no order, by the way. Baker Mayfield and Joe B. So he's not, too, is not even the best quarterback in Florida? I'm surprised he didn't throw at Kyle Trask and Trevor Lawrence. Listen, okay, so you and I went at it during the commercial break. Four guys are a lock, okay? Four guys we know. I mean, the fact that Tyreek apparently playing and not watching the league. Yeah, Lamar, Josh Mahomes, Joe Burrow are a lock.
Starting point is 00:28:31 The fifth went open for interpretation. And that's why I'm okay if he said, Tua, that's my guy, that's my quarterback. We're going to win the Super Bowl. You should hype your guy. To me name Baker Mayfield, a top five quarterback. Well, Baker is better. than to him. Does that, I mean, you could look at it. Does Tyree Kill want to go to Tampa? He wants out of Miami. He's made that clear multiple times. He may not want to go that far.
Starting point is 00:28:52 He's got to stay in state to see all his 10 kids or whatever he has. I'm telling you, this is bad news if you're the Miami Dolphins. If you're to or right now, you're like, you know, it is interesting that he would mention Baker. I wouldn't be surprised because Baker's the kind of guy that would get on a phone and text them and go, whoa, get over here. Yeah, Tampa's not that far from Miami. Like, this would work out great for Tyree Kill. I just don't like. any of the messaging coming out of Tyreek Hill in the Gulf. If I'm Mike McDaniel, I just wonder if I'm looking to get the hell out. I gave it a run. By the way, it helped in the regular season, Tua, established Tua as a franchise quarterback.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Tyreeks a very good player. I, there are, you know, I don't think in the AFC where all the good teams are cold weather teams. I don't think Tyreek Hill is a game changer in January. I've said this before. NFC, a lot of the best teams are domed teams. Yeah. Or, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, Los Angeles. It's, you know, I mean. You would still have to go to Philly probably. Detroit's a dome team. But let's just be honest about the AFC. Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, it all starts there. Cincinnati's going to be good. I think New England's going to be improved.
Starting point is 00:29:59 It's a lot of cold weather. And I just think Miami was a fun experiment, and it did establish Tua as a franchise quarterback. So you got a lot out of it. The fan base loved him. But nothing grows to the sky. I got to ask you. So we know the four locks at quarterback. Who's your fifth? Stafford. And there is a guy who just...
Starting point is 00:30:19 CJ Stroud, Herbert. There's a guy who just won the Super Bowl for the Eagles. I went toe to toe with Mahomes a couple years ago. I don't live in the moment. Jalen Hertz is not your fifth? No. Some people live in the moment. I don't.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Did I see CJ Stroud over J. If I had to start a franchise today... You're taking Stroud over Hertz? You do understand Hertz has the best online in a decade. The best receiving tandem, the best running back. I'd like to contextualize, and I love Hertz. But he has the best online maybe in 20 years. Kind of.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Remember how good Dak was when he had the best online? It's amazing how it works. So we're penalizing Hertz now. He's not penalizing it because he has a great offensive line. I'm not penalizing. There's a bunch of great players in this league. There's 10 to 12 elite quarterbacks. He's one of them.
Starting point is 00:31:08 But he's not better than Stafford. Today, come on. What are we doing? Wait, wait, he's like 10, 12 years younger than Stafford. You're a lot younger than me. What's it matter? Oh, oh, he's firing shots. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Jay Mack with a news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Line News. What I'm about to say, I'm not advocating that you should empty your 401K. Don't do that. Don't empty your 401K. It's quite a tax bill.
Starting point is 00:31:39 And I'm not saying you shouldn't. always have a horizon or your line on, or your site on the future. I'm not saying that. But when it comes to sports, sometimes these teams are busy preparing for the future. Just win now. Don't worry about the succession plan. So I was thinking about this with the Rams. Matt Stafford just finalized a new deal, $44 million a year, very team-friendly,
Starting point is 00:32:10 and Sean McVeigh, the head coach, smart guy says, hey, I think I'd like to keep him around for a while. So he's 37 years old, and the Rams have two first-round picks next year. And my take is take the best offensive tackle and the best corner. Why do you have to take a quarterback? You think that guy's going to come in and be better than Matt Stafford in the next two to three years? Remember, Stan Cronkey is the richest owner.
Starting point is 00:32:38 He'll just go overpay and buy the richest corner. quarterback, and Sean McBey at 37 will squeeze every last ounce of juice at a Matt Stafford. Stafford's 37. Do you remember what Tom Brady did after turning seven? Four Super Bowls, three MVP's in Super Bowls, 47,000 yards throwing and 120 wins. And I'm not saying Stafford is Brady, but that's Tom post-37. Why did the Patriots move off Brady? Was Tom the problem? The opposite. He was the life preserver in New England. The boat sank the minute he left. They couldn't draft.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Belichick took over personnel and had a seven-year stretch where he couldn't draft players. This whole thing about replacing Matt Stafford. Think about this. If you think I'm wrong, think about the teams. Let's take Mahomes out of this, who may be the most talented quarterback ever. Let's just take him out. I'm going to name quarterbacks, first-round quarterbacks, who were home runs, not A's. All-time talent.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, C.J. Stroud. Zero Super Bowls. One Super Bowl appearance. Add all their years up. One Super Bowl appearance. Joe Burrow. And who to get beat by? Guy over my shoulder.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Matt Stafford. This idea of the succession plan. I'm not saying the Rams can't take a quarterback in the third or fourth round next year or fifth round. Even if you got Drew Aller, how much? How many years with Drew Aller? How many snaps in the NFL would he have to take until he was as good pre-snap as Matt Stafford? That's four years. Stafford's one of the best pre-snap guys in the league. He's on a short list of Peyton Manning, Brady Mahomes pre-snap. Getting yourself, he's a brilliant, and he's also got one of the great natural arms in the league.
Starting point is 00:34:31 So, I mean, it's different than Aaron Rogers in Green Bay. Colin, what about Aaron Rogers in Green Bay? He was declining. He was a pain in the butt, and his last year he had a losing record. Stafford is one play from getting to the NFC championship. So whenever I see this, we do this all the time in sports. People have been trying to bury the Warriors and Steph Curry for years. They tried to bury Brady forever. New England should have just kept Brady and Belichick should have hired a real GM and let him draft players.
Starting point is 00:35:01 The boat sank the minute he left. If Steph Curry left tomorrow, Warriors are done. I mean, how long have the Bulls been rebuilding post-Jordan? Last dance. Last dance. How about you dance until I have to bring in an oxygen canister? The bulls are still trying to replace Michael. The dolphins are still trying to replace Marino.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Denver had to go by Peyton Manning to replace Elway, and he was on his fourth neck surgery. When something is great in sports, we buried Tiger. Then he wanted another masters. I mean, Jack Nicholas at the end. We do this in Hollywood. We're trying to find the next star.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Who fills a theater? Tom Cruise. Everybody thinks Silicon Valley's all these 21-year-old hipsters. All the big dogs, Zuckerberg now, 40s, 50s, 60s. So this idea that, oh, the succession plan for Matt Stafford, there isn't one. The Rams have virtually no chance to draft a quarterback, not only not as good as Stafford or maybe not as close to as good as Stafford. That's how good he is.
Starting point is 00:36:07 because even the teams like Buffalo and Baltimore and Houston and the Chargers, all these teams at Cincinnati that have hit home runs, they're not getting to Super Bowls. Sometimes these teams, last year Bro didn't he make the playoffs. Matt Stafford's deal is so reasonable for his talent. And I understood the Rams, I talked to him. They didn't love this year's quarterback class. and they think next year's is better. And by all means, you're not going to get Arch Manning.
Starting point is 00:36:42 They'll be too good. It doesn't matter. But if you can move up and say, and not have to give up one of your first-round picks, but this idea that I'm going to give up two first, couple of fives, a six to get my guy, just get Stafford better players. The Rams should have drafted a corner. They didn't. That's why they're interested in Jalen Ramsey.
Starting point is 00:37:00 So those first two picks next year, go get the best corner. End of the first round. It's a very good corner draft. Top of the first round. It's a very good offensive tackle draft. Those are the two positions they need, and that's about it. This team's good enough to win a Super Bowl. Next year, they've got two first, two-fifths, two-six, two-seven.
Starting point is 00:37:17 If you want to move up, do it, but get guys who can play. Don't replace the guy who's as good as almost any money in the sport. And, again, I'm not saying, you know, Spender Rothira. I'm not saying that, but when it comes to sports, like they're Brady Post-37, through for 47,000 yards. You tell them me, if you use next year's draft, they need a corner. And then you just got another high draft pick offensive line, another tied end, another receiver. Just give Stafford better gifts instead of trying to replace them.
Starting point is 00:37:53 It's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news?
Starting point is 00:39:00 We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:39:20 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down. Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
Starting point is 00:39:43 and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Me and hilarious guests from, from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself.
Starting point is 00:40:33 I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian won. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Starting point is 00:41:01 Consider this your courtside seat to the French. and Chopen. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Saturday, it's baseball night in America. As Kyle Tucker leads the Cubs against Juan Soto in the Mets, or the Giants take on Byron Buxton and the Twins. Check local listings for the game in your area. Saturday, 70s turn on top. Cubs may be the best team in baseball.
Starting point is 00:42:05 No, I'm serious. The Cubs may be the best team in baseball. So, my wife, she just asked me this morning, can you get me Cud tickets? I said, you picked the wrong year to get great Cubs tickets for free. So the Warriors and the T-Wolves series starts tonight. So hear me out on this. Now, I'm going to take Timberwolves in six. I think they present the same problems Houston did.
Starting point is 00:42:32 in terms of depth and size and physicality, but they have smart veteran players who've been here before. Houston didn't, and Houston froze. Minnesota's had too many clutch games this year, too many clutch games last year, too many big playoff series. You get all the expertise and IQ of a veteran team and a big size and depth advantage, plus it's a great staff.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I like Minnesota and 6. And I was saying this this morning. I want you to hear me out because you're going to not believe this. I believe privately, Once the NBA got the bag, $76 billion contract for 10 years, 11 years. Okay, now it's up to the networks. It's up to Amazon. It's up to ESPN and ABC.
Starting point is 00:43:14 It's up to NBC to make money on that. That's not the NBA's problem. That money's guaranteed. Once they got their bag, once they sign that deal, Adam Silver is looking ahead to the next deal. NBC, you figure out how to make money back. Maybe it's round ball rock. That's the answer.
Starting point is 00:43:34 But that's up to you. We got ours. Guaranteed. And I think privately, if you asked Adam Silver who he wants to win this series, it would be Ant in Minnesota. When Michael left, this league didn't have a domestic star. And as the international players are taking over the league, once again, Yokic, best player in the world, best player on TV last night.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Once again, Tatum doesn't have. the riz and has maximum riz the aura the smile the aggressiveness the game he is the future the NBA's had this before where they lean on their star and as the star ages they don't have the next act
Starting point is 00:44:20 and last night was a great watchable NBA night and you know who wasn't on tv lebron or step and the league was just fine everybody was just fine. What won't be fine is if you start renegotiating those deals with all your, you know, all your broadcasting groups in six to seven years, and you don't have a domestic face, and the league is even more international because our basketball culture is so messed up in this country, AAU, and the European system is so much better at creating skillful, smart, focused players.
Starting point is 00:44:54 I mean, the league wanted John Morant and Zion to be the face. They just weren't ready for it. Ants ready. The game, the aura, the staff, the coach, the collective, the roster. So I think privately, now that the NBA's got its money, and it's a classic short-term pain, Minnesota wouldn't get the rating this year that Golden State would. But if you could pick a team to beat Minnesota, it would be the Warriors and Steph. That would be the team you'd pick. But right now, for him to knock, I mean, I was looking here this morning. Think about this. He's knocked out Kevin Durant before, Devin Booker,
Starting point is 00:45:31 Yokic, LeBron, Luca, next up, Steph Curry. In the last couple of years, he is knocking out the stars of the league. That's how Michael became the face of it. That's how Shaq and Kobe. Remember Shaq and Kobe had Del Harris for years. They were very, very young. They couldn't get past the superior rosters. Then as they age, here comes Phil.
Starting point is 00:45:51 And you've got to win titles. You've got to get to championships to be the face of the league. I don't think the league needs. a domestic face of the league, but it's ridiculous to argue it doesn't help. You don't think Aaron Judge putting up ridiculous cartoon numbers? You don't think Rob Manfred loves a Yankee on pace to hit 420? So here's Steve Kerr on Ant. Yeah, Ann is an amazing player, and I love his energy.
Starting point is 00:46:22 I love his infectious enthusiasm for the game. You know, they are where they are because Matt is a superstar. Okay, so we've got to talk about this again. And all year, I kept saying I just, I think Cleveland or Boston are going to win the championship. And I said yesterday, Denver's not getting swept. Denver's too good. Denver's got too many good players, too much size, best player in the world. So one of the things you have to be careful of, I remember years ago, Derek Rose and the Chicago Bulls were just crushing people.
Starting point is 00:46:58 in the regular season. Then they face LeBron in the postseason. It's like, bye-bye. It's over. Not that I didn't think Derek was great, but he wasn't LeBron, who shut him down. As a big, on a small, shut him down. So last night's a prime example. I think O'KC would have been better playing in Denver. Huge favorite, at home, world's watching. They got totally tight. Chet Holmgren, shoot 78% from the free throw line. Dude missed a pair late and looked nervous. And they coached nervous. And they played nervous. And Denver didn't, because Denver's been been in these games before. Just think of all the big games that Yokic Murray, Westbrook, and Aaron Gordon have been in. How many big games has SGA been in? How many big
Starting point is 00:47:39 games has Chet Holmgren been in? It's not that many. And also when you blow out people over the regular season, and we've seen this before in other sports, one of the reasons, it was a huge advantage for the Kansas City Chiefs last year. I don't know they got worked in the Super Bowl, but they played in so many close games. They were really good in close games. And a team like Baltimore or Detroit, by the way, who the last couple of years have been blowing people out,
Starting point is 00:48:05 uh-oh, now we trail late. Well, Kansas City trailed all the time late. Huge advantage. So here's SGA. You know, Chad Hongren. Dude, that's a bad miss. That's not a rattler. That's not, look at this thing.
Starting point is 00:48:19 Those are bad misses. Here's SGA after. We're going to find out what we're made of, We're really made of. And we can expect it to be smooth sailing this whole journey. No journey in life is, and we know that. And today is a bump in her own, unexpected. No one expects to lose, especially that way.
Starting point is 00:48:38 But it's the game of life. So it's about how you respond to getting knocked down. And that's what we got to do next game. Playoff basketball is similar to parenting. You can read all the books. You can ask your friends who have kids. You have no idea. what it's like to have kids before you have kids.
Starting point is 00:48:59 And you can talk about playoff games, and you can talk about the drama. OKC, they got tight. They gagged. They just weren't ready for the room. They would have been better playing in Denver. Everybody's wearing shirts in the arena, except the announcers. They were joking about that.
Starting point is 00:49:17 And they got tight. So you just don't know until you have a kid. And you just don't know what the playoffs are like until you've played as a huge favorite, everybody wearing your giveaway shirts at home against world champions, the best player in the world, they're older, they're wiser, they're bigger, and you've never been there before. You can go to YouTube and watch all the MJ highlights until you've been there, until you've been 11 feet away on the green on 18 and Masters on Sunday, you don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:47 You can watch all the highlights you want. You don't know. J. Mack. Denver. You just triggered a memory. I remember our firstborn, you know, we're in the hospital, and you're in there for like 24 hours, 48 hours. And then they're like, all right, here's your kid. See you.
Starting point is 00:50:04 And I remember walking out in the hospital like, oh, my gosh, what do I do now? Can I handle this? You don't want to drop it. Dude, I was so nervous. I was like, I'm in charge of a kid. It was terrifying. But yeah, you're right. No, that's one of your better analogies in 2025.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Well done. Yeah, well. That's good. You're on a heater. I had somebody texting me. Did Colin just say aura and Riz? And I was like, yeah. I said maximum Riz.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Maximum Riz. So I can use Riz in a sentence. I'm not just a guy thrown out lit to pretend I'm cool. I'm throwing stuff out. You know, I'm throwing stuff out in the middle of paragraphs. I met your daughter before. Can you get her to listen to the show? I just need some young person feedback on Riz and Rhea.
Starting point is 00:50:44 My son will not be listening. All right. Hour to Nick Wright, my latest NFL predictions. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick.
Starting point is 00:50:54 And guess what? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
Starting point is 00:51:10 But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:51:52 And I'm C.J. Tolodano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was hungry. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow.
Starting point is 00:52:08 Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to him. He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was.
Starting point is 00:52:25 Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro, and these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets. He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move. And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off, and that was the last time I saw him. Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed human.
