We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.

Winning on Clay is an art.
The rallies are relentless.
And at the French Open, only the toughest survive.
I'd know.
I competed there for decades.

Oh, here we go.
It is a Wednesday eve of the NFL draft.
We got all sorts of stuff.
In fact, something may break during the show.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening,
thanks for making that part of your day.
Very, very interesting night.
Tonight, the Warriors try to make a two-oh on Houston.
You know, Jay Mac yesterday we talked during the show.
The line, Vegas was telling you who was going to win the game last night,
not because the Lakers were favored, but it was a five and a half point spread,
which considering they got thumped in game one,
kind of told you what the odds makers thought is that they were going to play with much more energy.
So we kept saying, you know, Lakers are the side.
They're going to win, they're going to win comfortably.
It actually was closer at the end that it needed to be because the Lakers really thumped them.
Well, they took their foot off the gas in the fourth, but Lakers, for sure, easy winner.
All right.
two biggest differences from game one, number one Lakers were immediately physical and made
Minnesota work for everything, and number two is the T-wolves couldn't hit their threes, and they
shoot a lot of them, and they did all year, but when Ant, who's a great three-point shooter,
is two-for-eight, they're in trouble, and they were. And I thought last night is what I actually
thought the series was going to look like, which is a limited offensive team with Ant
being the best player, and you're kind of crossing your fingers night-to-night of Julie.
Daniel can deliver. He was good last night. But what's remarkable to me that at 40 years old,
with other stars in the game like Luca and Ant, LeBron is still the tone setter in that game last night.
Activity, energy, defense, setting the tempo. It was LeBron. And you could feel its presence
every time he was on the floor. And it's interesting, if you go to LeBron's career,
following a loss, he's the very best LeBron. In fact, LeBron's always been great in the same.
second game of a playoff series. He tends to feel out the first game and then attack in the
second game. Sort of how all of us are with the second cup of coffee at work. You know, that first
cup of coffee you're trying to get organized. We're not, any of us are not really capable of
completing a grown-up task until we're into the second cup of coffee. And that's how to LeBron does it.
He eats like a boxer that feels out the first round. And then he attacks in round two. And that's what LeBron
did. And that's why LeBron's comp is not Michael Jordan. It's Brady. For Brady at 45 years old,
the league the NFL in pass attempts, and throw for 4,700 yards, and lead the league in
completions, that's LeBron, who in year 22, with other stars on the floor in a crucial
game for the Lakers, LeBron's the tone center. And remember, LeBron tried to pass the baton
to AD four years ago. He tried to say, hey, dude, I'm not into point.
Leight us in scoring.
And although AD finally got in shape, and AD was very consistent defensively,
you never knew what you were getting from AD offensively.
So so often, LeBron would wait when he was a teammate at AD.
He would play a very soft first quarter, want AD to take the baton with scoring,
and AD wouldn't, and then LeBron would have to take over and pray Austin Reeves could help him be the two.
This is where LeBron and Luca are great.
is that LeBron's not into the points thing.
He doesn't care.
He wants energy in the fourth quarter.
He conserves it when he can.
Like last night he couldn't.
He had to play with energy right out of the gate.
But he was letting Luca take over the scoring.
LeBron's not one of these guys that needs the buckets.
He wants the win.
That's what his legacy is.
So last night, Luca 31 points, LeBron 21.
He is totally comfortable with that.
That's why AD and LeBron, there's a lot of.
to talk. Now, it could be internet rumors that LeBron knew the trade was coming. I don't know if
he did, but I think LeBron was okay with the trade, because LeBron is always understood, who
plays off me well? Austin Reeves, he loves him. Why, he can score and shoot. He didn't like
Kyle Coosma. Why, as Milwaukee found out, he still can't shoot. LeBron couldn't depend on Coosma.
LeBron feels like, oh, I can depend on Austin Reeves in most series to be good, although he's been a little
clunky so far. So this
to me is what really is
amazing. This is the 50
5th
playoff series for LeBron.
And he remains
the tone setter
with Ant and Luca also
on the floor. And here was LeBron
in his game two performance.
We looked at what we didn't do so well,
which was a lot of things in game one.
We took that to heart. We hold each other accountable.
We make the adjustments and
we had a better out on tonight. And
and now we need to be even better on Friday, you know, going into Minnesota.
So that's what the playoffs is all about.
But you've got to be able to save and kill no matter what's going on.
I do like the Lakers in the series.
I think it probably goes six, not five.
But this is what I thought it would look like.
And it's a really big distinction between AD and Luca.
LeBron, after they won, the championship, the COVID championship.
Remember the next year, AD came out of shape to camp.
And I was told it ticked LeBron off.
It was like, okay, dude, it's your team.
I'm going to be ready for the fourth, and he couldn't because you never knew what you were getting with AD.
And then AD got healthy, took his body seriously, but in the end, LeBron still couldn't trust him offensively.
LeBron loves Luca.
Luca can have 18-point quarters, 23-point halves, and it lets LeBron play off the ball, conserve some energy.
this. LeBron is always known
who we would play well with and who we wouldn't.
He knows the game, and he knew
there's two guys, three guys in the league I'd be great with.
Steph, and he flirted for a couple years.
Steph said no thanks.
Yokic, that was never going to happen.
Denver's not letting him go.
And Luca.
I believe LeBron is always known.
Steph, Yokic, and Luca are the three stars in this league
he would trust and he'd be great with.
and now he's got one.
Okay, so this came out.
Oh, boy, I can hear all the young media sycophant fan boys freaking out over this.
Tom Pelliserro NFL Network apparently wrote an article on Shadur Sanders.
Said a lot of good stuff, but there were multiple people who did not like Shadur Sanders' attitude.
Now, this is a story now because Shadour Sanders over the last week to two weeks,
we've heard about him dropping in the draft.
One of the quotes in the story was,
the worst formal interview I've ever seen in my life.
Horrible body language, blames teammates.
Biggest thing is, he's just not that good.
An assistant NFL coach told Pelliserra.
It didn't go great in our interview.
He wants to dictate everything what he's going to do,
and he kind of makes you feel small.
So listen, interviews do matter a little bit for quarterbacks.
Baker Mayfield, I was told, was so good in his interviews.
He had so much football non.
He had such great energy, great eye contact, sense of humor.
People were blown away with Baker Mayfield in the interview.
He was good on the whiteboard, funny, confident, without arrogant.
So my takeaway on this is, yeah, this is part of being in a quarterback.
Aaron Rogers, by the way, read Ian O'Connor's book.
Why did he drop in the draft?
Aaron came across as too cocky.
It matters.
I can just already.
see the fence being built to protect
Shed or Sanders. Who I like.
But the scouts,
they're not just making stuff up.
Coaches don't make stuff up. Remember we were warned about
Kyler Murray's attitude?
Yeah, they were right. Cam Newton's ego.
Johnny Mansell's focus.
If Josh Rosen could stay healthy,
Jay Cutler's arrogance,
yeah, they were right on all those.
Now people say, what about CJ Stroud?
Oh, boy. People like
C.J.
Stroud. They said his comp was Jared Goff. Super accurate. Doesn't get hurt. Doesn't move a ton.
That's not a bad comp. Jared Goff's been to a Super Bowl. And the other thing was, there's a new test out.
It's called an S2 evaluation. It's just more information. It doesn't mean it's foolproof.
CJ Stroud did not do well on it. Bryce Young had an amazing through the roof score. So obviously it doesn't just
equal wins, but it's more information. It's a cognitive test, and people think it's better than
Wonderlick. It's really good with quarterbacks. You still need a left tackle and a good coach and a good
coordinator and a good owner and a good general manager, but it's just more information. So this
article has a ton of nice things about Schinders Sanders. It says a bunch of nice stuff, but there are a
couple people that say it comes across as cocky, and I've said this, and I said this about Caleb Williams.
over the next two to three years,
you've got to be very careful, I believe, in judging a kid's confidence as an NFL scout,
because they're all getting paid now.
They're all millionaires coming into the game.
And some of those kids have had money.
Some of those kids have not have money.
But last year's class, Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels,
and especially Caleb Williams,
he was the first quarterback ever drafted that was richer than any of the scouts that interviewed.
him. I mean, he had a better net worth before he signed a contract with the Bears. And so the kids
have money now. They're being empowered by NFL. There's going to be a little bit of confidence.
And I think some of that confidence will come across as arrogance to NFL people because these kids
now, they don't come in wide-eyed. They're driving new cars. They may own a condo. Their family's
more set. They're going to come in and not grovel to you. And I think a lot of NFL people are kind of used to
quarterback's coming in, yes, sir, no, sir.
Hey, coaches, they got more money than you do.
So I do think this is something over the next three or four years to watch it play out.
When I hear worst interview ever, that seems a little dramatic to me.
But I would say this to the media as well.
Take a deep breath.
This is just all information.
Interviews matter.
They were right on Johnny Mansell.
I mean, Cam Newton's a great podcaster.
Why?
because he's more personality.
That's why in the NFL,
never had back-to-back winning seasons.
But he was memorable.
Like, that's what people said
going into the Cam Newton draft.
Like, he's a lot of personality,
a little bit into Cam.
Everybody freaked out.
And that's actually why Cam's kind of a good podcaster.
He's a performer.
And that was what they say.
The stuff is mostly right.
Right?
It was right on Johnny Mansell.
And by the way, the people that love Baker Mayfield,
Not everybody, but the people that love them, they're like, he can read a defense.
Teammates will love him.
He's got a ton of confidence.
They've been right on Baker Mayfield.
And the critics of him myself were a little bit of ego, kind of immature, maybe not as good athletically as people think.
And that was right, too.
So don't overreact to this.
I can see young people now coming into the sport with a little ego, a little confidence.
They've been paid.
They made money.
It's not the end of the world.
I think Shadur's biggest issue is one that is well documented.
Arm, mobility, size, his traits are...
Okay.
That's the issue.
The interview stuff, this feels a little hot for me,
but I can see everybody freaking out.
This is unfair.
No, it's not.
It's totally fair.
This is the game.
This is what happens when you're a quarterback.
Andrew Luck came out.
Literally a perfect prospect.
And people questioned,
his arm strength. It was like, you watched him. Do you ever think, you know, Andrew Lux's a
noodle arm? Other than that, he's fantastic. Like, everybody gets picked apart. Take a deep breath.
All right, but it is interesting, Jay Mack, that a week ago to two weeks ago, because these
interviews were done a long time ago, now they're getting out, because people are doing a lot
of articles, and so, you know, the athletics got six articles a day, and now stuff's coming out.
I do think what is interesting, though, that even the people who like Shadur Sanders,
like the giants, people in the building like him, the buildings also split.
See, what you're getting with Shadur Sanders is, because let's take Cam Ward out, he's going to the Titans.
Every quarterback after that, Jackson Dart, people are very mixed.
Shadur mixed, Jalen Milroll mixed.
What we have outside of Cam Ward is B to B minus Quar.
quarterback prospects, and when you have that, you get divided opinions.
Yeah.
Your Chodor point is great.
I think it's worth a larger discussion.
So, Colin, you and I have run businesses.
You've interviewed a lot of people.
Some kid comes in thinking he's a hot shot.
Hey, how are you?
What's up, man?
Acting all cool and too cool for school.
I've made my money.
I've got my social media following.
If he acts like that, are you more likely to hire him or be like, oh, if this is what he's
like in the interview, what's this guy going to be like to deal with?
Because I know you want to give pause that some of these coaches are older.
And they want, yes, sir, no, sir.
If Shador's walking in there like his stuff don't stink,
I don't know that I want that in my building as a young leader of a football.
I just don't.
I remember when my daughter was interviewing for jobs.
And I talked to her about this.
I said, I'm just going to tell you what dad thinks.
You can take this information for whatever you want, but I own a business.
And I have a staff.
I have a radio TV staff.
I've got a volume staff.
I said, don't ask about vacation.
Right.
Don't ask.
When I hear that, I'm like, oh.
I said, I don't care if you think that's what all the young hipsters ask about is work-life balance.
Nobody wants to hear about work-life balance.
That's the only advice I'm going to give you.
You're going to work and work hard.
When do I start?
I said, I'm just telling you, for dad in my generation, and my generation owns a lot of those businesses, we're turned off by that.
Like, because we worked our butt off.
We're not going to work you to the bone.
We're not asking for 70 hours a week.
But if you ask about vacation, and that's a real priority, you know what?
Go be an influencer on IG.
By the way, Patrick Mahomes' dad was a professional baseball player.
You think he walked into interviews with NFL teams, acting like he was the man?
I'm not bashing Shador here.
I personally would take him at two or three.
Yeah, so not.
But it almost feels like there's an old coach somewhere around the league who sat in on an interview and heard and saw this.
And was like, yeah, I want this guy on my job.
If he's acting like this in an interview, what's he going to be like in the locker room?
Well, and again, I think both are true.
I think young quarterbacks now and young college football players come in with money, so they're not groveling.
I think that's true.
That's not a bad thing, but it's true.
I also think it depends on the coach.
I think a Sean McVeigh would handle it better, but there are a lot of coaches in this sport.
Old defensive coaches, they want a, you know, a kind of,
kneel to the
Not quite kiss the ring, right? But there is...
No, show some respect. I mean, now Brian Daebel,
he can't roll into the meeting and be like,
here's all my Super Bowl rings. He can't do that.
Whereas a Belichick could back in the day,
Mike Tomlin could do that. Here's my Super Bowl
rings, son. How are you?
By the way, I'm very curious about the... By the way,
you and I have both interviewed for jobs.
I have had good interviews. I think
interviewed pretty well. But I've had interviews
before I walk out, and I'm like,
I was weird. He was like,
the interviewer's aggressive or
they're not
really looking for what I provide.
So listen,
interviews, these interviews are not four hours
long. Sometimes they're 10
minutes. Not all interviews
go well. I mean, I've done a million podcasts
with people. Sometimes the podcast is over
and I'm like, that wasn't a very good podcast. It just
never got going. Some of the advice you would give
your kid, hey, play it safe. You know,
don't say anything risky and feel
out the interview the way Mike Tyson would feel
out of fight or LeBron feels out of series.
E's in. Don't come
all cocky and i just wonder if shadour
has turned off enough that he plummets
here and i don't i still contend
i still contend
cam newton turns of people off
but cam
was so damn talented who cares
shador's not in his class well that's what i'm saying
Caleb williams turns some people off
calum's too talented
the biggest issue with shadour is
arm okay mobility
average size
that's the issue
is that if if if
people like I keep hearing about you know this kid that went transferred to UCLA
Nico Villaliyava everybody's a bad bad bad bad kid if he lights it up at UCLA or had he lit it
up at Tennessee he's going in the first round got them to the playoffs yes yeah come on
in the end the greater of the talent just to be clear I would take shadour at three if I were
the Giants I know people don't love him I would I haven't interviewed them or anything but I would
look hard at like if you don't get a quarterback and you're the Giants hello five and
12th. Like, that's where you're headed. You and I are both on, we like him more than the world does.

Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
And we were thinking I'm originally calling it.
it one of the early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers
was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing,
a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say,
Hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little
notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title
for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

All right, welcome back.
So, you know, for a couple years, thank God I don't read social.
media, but for a couple years, here's all I've heard.
Every time we talk about the Milwaukee
bucks, I've come on this show and said, yeah, they're too
old, it's not going to work, time to blow it up.
They don't have any draft picks. They gave up too money
for Dame. It's not going to work. And
Milwaukee fan is like, you guys,
cherry pick, you don't watch the games,
you don't know. No,
actually, we've been right.
They're going to lose to the Pacers.
I predicted a week ago, I said
Pacers got better players. Pacer's have an
undervalued roster. Pacer's have
three really good players in their prime.
Milwaukee, Janice is a $25 million chandelier in a rundown house.
And he's putting up huge numbers in this series.
He's a monster.
He didn't have good enough players around him.
He's had one, and I'm not blaming him.
He's great.
He's probably slightly out of his prime, or maybe he's in his prime, but he's great, but it doesn't matter.
They don't have draft picks.
The Kyle Kuzma move with the deadline was a nothing burger.
Dame is a weakness defensively and passed his prime.
So Milwaukee's had one great playoff run and they won a title.
Every other year has been a disappointment since then.
And they're going to get knocked out of this series.
They'll win game three, but they're going to get knocked out of this series.
In fact, in Janus's last seven playoff games, he's had huge numbers.
The bucks are 0 for seven.
So again, the national media skepticism was right on point.
He's doing 35 and 15 in this series, and they're down 02.
and they're clearly the inferior team.
And we were saying on their show three years ago,
you don't have to sit and watch every NBA game.
They're just not athletic enough.
They're not young enough.
Boston's still got some youth.
Cleveland has youth.
Oklahoma City's got youth.
The West has tons of young athletic teams.
Milwaukee's too old.
So, listen, this towns, this city lost Lue Alcinder,
Farv and Aaron Rogers, and somehow survived.
To me, you could,
guarantee your viability as a franchise by trading Janus in the offseason and getting five first
round picks and four players. I mean, look what Rudy Gobert got. You can get a ton, and it'll guarantee
for the next 10 years, you're a viable franchise. You are not winning a trophy with Janus.
You don't have the draft capital. Dames getting older by the second. Kyle Kuzma's not it.
You're not winning a trophy. So what are your standards? I mean, Green Bay, the Packers,
have their faults, but they're trying to win Super Bowls. They're making moves to win Super
Bulls. Milwaukee, you want to be a playoff team because Boston and Cleveland and are
significantly better. Like, it's not close. Athletically, defensively, and so it's one of these
things. When people say you can't trade Luca, you could trade Luca, you can't do it for one
first round pick. If you had to trade Luca to the Lakers for AD Austin Reeves and three first
round picks. Okay, you've got to sleep
on that. Yonnes,
he may not be able
to get a free throw. I'd want four first
round picks. I'd want an all-star
level player, and then two or
three other players.
Because I wouldn't have to pay him anymore, right?
I could get some expiring contracts.
But this thing's not working.
Yeah, I know.
The media,
cherry picks. No, sometimes the
national guys, because they're not as
emotionally embedded in the franchise,
guys can see the truth. You are watching the truth in this series. Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. As you said at the outset, NFL
draft on the horizon less than, uh, what, 36 hours to go, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones met
with the media yesterday, said Dallas is working on pretty substantive trades regarding players
ahead of the draft. When asked, he said they were taking calls with teams but wouldn't offer
specifics. In other news, Colin, Micah Parsons has shown up to voluntary off-season workouts
while seeking a contract extension. So, Jerry Jones talking about trades, Michael Parsons,
who could have easily just sat this out, said, I don't have a contract, I'm not showing up.
Dallas, Dallas, to me, if you want to catch up to Philadelphia in your own division, forget the
AFC, forget the other teams. Dallas does not have a top 10 roster. Not a top 10 roster.
They're not a top 10 team in the NFC column. But that you could go through it. It's just not good.
So to me, I don't even think it's debatable. I've said before, I would move off Micah. I would trade
down in the draft. They need 12 draft picks and hit on about eight of them. And all of a sudden,
in the NFL, that's what's great about it. It's not baseball where you have to wait for a guy in
the minors. If you go hit on seven or eight draft picks, that could be six.
starters and all of a sudden you look up and you're like, okay, now Dax's contract doesn't
matter as much because we got six guys from the second round on that can play. And they have
drafted well over the last few years. That being said, who's trading for Micah Parsons,
giving up picks and then paying the guy top dollar for his position? Oh, I think Mike
it had been a market. A robust market or not real? I mean, honestly. He'll give me a team.
Even if you got a rookie quarterback. Minnesota, if J.J. McCarthy plays and you're not paying
for four years. The Vikings have a billion picks. They got a lot of picks in this track. Or maybe they have
the fewest pick. But it's not a great edge rush or drive. It's not, okay. So Minnesota says,
I'll take Micah, give you four picks or three picks. Yeah, we can pay them. We're not paying
a quarterback. Sam Darnold's gone. We're not paying anybody. Minnesota, Micah Parsons, absolutely.
So rookie quarterback. Now, if you have a rookie quarterback, like Jay and Daniels, you've got
four years of a runway. Interesting.
By the way, Michael Pennix, Atlanta. They went and got the kid
from New England last year, but they don't sack the quarterback.
And it's not a great edge rush or draft.
I'm Atlanta.
I'd say, you give us Micah Parsons in our division, and we'll give you our first round pick
this year and our second next year.
By the way, Atlanta's got Michael Pennix.
Go for it.
I mean, Atlanta, to me, in Minnesota, if you want to catch Philadelphia, I mean,
hell, Philadelphia is rumored.
They want to trade A.J. Brown to go up and get Carter from Penn State because they want
more pass rush.
I like the idea of trading, Micah.
I just don't know that the market's that big just because he's going to want to be the most highest paid defensive end in the league.
I just like him, but man, this cowboy story.
All right, next up, Colin, I love this story.
So Tyrese Halliburton, the great point guard of the Pacers, dropped 21 and 12 last night in a great Pacers win.
I'm just telling you now that Pacers are going to be a problem in the next round for Cleveland.
However, Halliburton was voted the most overreward.
player in the league.
In an anonymous player poll by the athletic,
his coach Rick Carlisle shared his thoughts on the voting last night after the game.
And the other guys on the list were Jimmy Butler and Janice.
And I want to see the guys faces that voted those guys.
I want to see the faces of those guys.
All right.
This is a poll.
Not everybody even answered in the poll.
The whole thing is B.
Okay.
and it's just, it's really a shameful thing.
First of all, coaches have to defend their players,
so it's not a shameful thing.
I looked at the entire poll.
90% of it I agreed with.
I didn't agree with this one.
The reason he ends up,
Yonis gets this because he can't hit a free throw late.
Well, I'm just saying it's a shooter's league and Yonis can't shoot.
So you could argue, yeah, I mean, he's highly productive.
Halliburton doesn't have a lot of swag.
He does that, and that's the good, this is a great discussion.
Half the league five years ago, like Westbrook over Curry, because Curry's got pharmacy shoes as a shoe line.
So, no, I mean, a lot of the NBA is an aesthetic league.
It's a cool league.
It's a culture league.
It's a culturally, yes.
Yeah.
So Halliburton has no interest playing that game.
And a lot of the NBA guys, dude, it's about, it's about what, you know, are you cool?
He got an attitude.
That's fine with me.
But Halliburton, like a Steph Curry, is not really into that.
And so you get punished by NBA players.
It's not a shameful poll.
It's just a poll.
And for the record, I agreed with the players on all but two categories.
I thought they were right.
This one I didn't agree with.
And there was another one.
I forget what it was.
There was another one.
Somebody was overrated, I think, and I just didn't agree with it.
But let's slow down on it's outrageous or shameful.
Anonymous polls are part of society.
You have them in tech, politics, sports.
You have anonymous polls.
Half the sources in American media are anonymous because people don't want their name on it, but they'll tell you the truth.
All right.
I mean, listen, Halliburton was on the U.S. Olympic teams.
He's a good player.
He's awesome.
He's a franchise.
And he's a great guy.
Top five point card on a league.
Yeah.
But this whole, like, he's not cool.
He doesn't live above the rib.
He's not dunking on people.
And like Anthony Edwards is cool.
He's getting fine for yelling inappropriate stuff.
I can't say on this show to fans.
Okay.
Like, that's cool.
I think that John Morant is cool.
You know how dumb that?
is, I would take Caliburton over John Morant in a heartbeat.
Yeah.
Would you?
Yes.
It's like this discussion.
But we also have to realize that the NBA's always been like this.
Dr. J was a great player, but he was also cool.
Yeah.
Like it mattered.
So I think Michael Jordan was a great player.
But Michael, the dress, the look, the earrings, it's okay for one of our really popular
leagues to have cultural significance.
And the NBA, since I've been a kid, the NBA has always been the league.
Like when I was a kid growing up, the first star was Spencer Haywood.
And he pushed back against the league, and Spencer was kind of viewed as cool.
He was a tough guy.
He was cool.
And so that's okay.
Some of my favorite players, I thought Bernard King was cool and Gus Williams was cool.
They weren't great players, but I loved their game.
I love their style.
And that's okay.
But let's just call it what it is.
Halliburton's not considered cool.
He's a tremendous player.
So Andrew Luck was like a member of a book club and had a flip phone.
But in the NFL, it doesn't.
No social.
It doesn't matter in the NFL.
That's interesting.
In the NFL, who cares who's cool?
Because you're winning football games.
Yeah, cool in the NFL is winning.
Yes.
You know what else is cool?
Tyrese Halliburton winning with the Pacers.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
Anyways.
Final story, Colin is back to the NFL.
The Titans came out yesterday and told the media,
they're not going to trade the number one pick.
Tennessee is closed for business at one.
And Diana Rusini is reporting the Giants
were the most aggressive team trying to get the number one overall pick.
Obviously they need a quarterback.
They want a quarterback.
They just don't like Sador.
By the way, how's Kim Ward interviewing?
Oh, I haven't heard anything about that.
Have you?
Nothing.
Because he's going to one team.
He's going one.
I think he's only talked to a few teams.
So the Giants are going to get a quarterback in this draft.
The question is, is it Shadour?
Is it Jackson Dart?
One of these other guys?
The New York Giants are the most interesting team in the draft to me,
because they're at three.
I feel.
I feel the draft starts with number three.
And again, some of this Shadur-Sanders stuff coming out is just because he doesn't have dominant traits.
Like nobody's talking about Cam Ward's personality.
Why?
Super mobile, big arm.
Nobody cares.
Like, like, like, the lot of this is just people will deal with stuff the greater your talent is.
But when it's marginal, then they really start to pick on you.
They pick you, yeah.
J-Mack with a new.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
By the way, I'm looking at this NBA poll.
Who's the MVP?
51, 56% SGA, 37% Yokic.
I agree with that.
What team other than your own will win the title this season?
Boston, number one, Oklahoma City, too.
I mean, if you start looking at this, most underrated, most underrated player was Kate Cunningham.
I agree with that.
Best organization warriors,
yeah, it's hard to, hard argue.
Worst Hornet.
So this stuff, you know, again,
it's not shameful.
It's just players need, you know,
I think it's funny when you talk overrated or underrated.
Yeah, let me give you an underrated,
an overrated.
I like this guy's game.
Zion Williams.
Can't stay healthy.
Doesn't win a damn thing in New Orleans.
Got all the money,
but he's cool because he does.
He dunks on people and dates porn stars.
Here's why he's not overrated.
He's appropriately rated.
Because everybody in the league is like, too bad he can't stay in shape and stay healthy.
Nobody sees him as a top five player.
I think Zion is appropriately rated.
I think Kawhi Leonard similarly.
Everybody with Kauai says the same thing.
Bro is great.
He's just never available.
Okay.
Can I give you another one?
Yeah.
And I like this guy too.
Trey Young, Atlanta Hawks.
Again, I would say appropriately rated.
I've always liked him more than the critics, but he is wild.
There's arguments.
He's not a winning player.
Definitely doesn't defend.
Well, yeah, that's half the league.
But I don't think Trey's overrated.
I think Trey Young, who I've met and I like, is appropriately rated.
We know what is, I'll tell you.
So, overrated, like if you said Yonis is overrated,
that I can argue because I can say this
what matters in all these playoff games
the last four minutes
Janus can't hit a free throw
so that there is
people used to think by the way
I remember when the Lakers
moved off Shack
and everybody's like crazy
but I had a source inside the Lakers that said
Shaq didn't want to practice
Shack bad feet falling apart
Shack is distracted
and we have to make a
a choice, and Kobe, his life is basketball.
And so people freaked out, but in the end, it doesn't mean the Lakers didn't love Shack,
but they had to make a choice.
And so they went with a more, the healthier, more obsessed, committed player.
It doesn't mean you don't like Yannis.
But it is concerning that you don't trust them at the line late, and these close
playoff games are decided on free.
I mean, the Lakers last night went 20 for 20.
at the free throw line. If they go
12 for 20,
that's a four-point game even though they dominated.
So,
underrated doesn't
mean you're bad.
Underrated means you're considered
a star, and maybe you're not
quite living up to elements
of that.
Rick Carlisle is
taking overrated as you stink.
No, no, no, he's viewed
as an all-star, and he, you know,
Like last year he had a bad stretch.
What if I said Joel Embed overrated?
Now that one I'll take to the bank.
Yeah, I was told for years, just wait until next year.
I'm overweight.
Yeah, that's one that I am just over.
He was the MVP, I think two years ago, right?
And again, he's talented, but I watched him at the Olympics,
and it validated every concern I had, which is within a team structure,
is he a winning player?
Oh, let me give you another one.
Overrated.
I'm going to take some heat for this.
Kyrie Irving.
Tell me what he's won without LeBron,
and you'll sell me.
Stop with him.
What do you want?
What is he done without LeBron James?
I think Kyrie is appropriately rated.
The best closer under 6-4 in league history.
The most skillful, small player, arguably ever.
Guy hit one shot against the Warriors to win the fight.
One damn shot.
And he's more clutch than Steph Curry?
under 6-4?
He was in the finals last season.
Okay, let's just...
Yeah, as the wingman to Luca.
Oh, go.
Oh, boy.
Okay.
No, Kyrie is a sensational talent
who, fairly, is a smaller player who's been hurt a lot.
And everybody, by the way, I was out on Kyrie in Brooklyn, with all the COVID stuff.
But you have to be fair in our business.
Yes.
He has been very good and not distracted in Dallas.
As the clear number two, though.
Well, let's see what happens next year.
Maybe him and AD will battle for the number one.
I'll say this.
He always comes to camp in shape.
He does?
Well, now he does, yeah.
We don't want to talk about the book.
Listen, I've switched.
Didn't like Hardin, did like Hardin.
Not back down.
Not sure with Hardin.
Kyrie, I'm out.
Kyrie wins with LeBron.
I'm in.
Then he went weird out.
Now I'm kind of.
Yeah, I hate how I'm floating the overrated guys.
And I'm going to look like the hater.
You're not.
I think most people in.
society are appropriately rated.
I think if there's
one guy in the league that I thought got way too much
love, it was Embed. It's like
I'm not sure he's good in the team structure.
He's hurt all the time,
and frankly, they keep running players
around him, and none of them fit.
Okay, Lemelible. We'll wrap up a La Mellible.
I think everybody
looks at him. It's really fun to watch.
Little on the flashy side.
Certainly an NBA player.
He's a fun NBA player
to go pay for a ticket and watch.
He's an NBA player and kind of a borderline star.
He owns a bunch of really cool cars.
Yeah, well, there's nothing wrong with that.
Swag.
Not wrong with that.
People love him.
And as an NBA player.
Well, again, but nobody's like, you know what?
That's the face of the league.
People are like, he's fun, he's flashy, he's good, can be a little sloppy as a player.
Little.
But, but, do you can play.
Oh, he can get buckets.
Oh, no, he can play.
Yeah.
I'm like this.
No, I'm like Mr. Optimus.
And you're over there.
throwing John Morant grenades, and I'm here.
Live in LA, it's the herd.
That's good.

Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
for people could call in and say, hey Jonas,
and then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Some of the best parts of the show are when we're not on the year.
Okay.
A Diana Rusini professional journalist says the Steelers Browns and possibly the Vikings
could be involved in Kirk Cousins trade discussions.
The Vikings?
You mean the Sam Darnold Vikings?
The Daniel Jones Vikings?
The Aaron Roger Rumor Vikings?
Kirk Cousins again?
So listen, with quarterbacks, I got to see it to believe it.
You can tell me a house is beautiful.
I'd like to step inside.
I got to see it for myself.
And here's the thing with J.J. McCarthy.
I watched Michigan.
I watched the last two years under Harbaugh on J.J. McCarthy.
I saw a great O-line, a great running back,
great defense, a great pass rush.
Great culture.
I didn't see great quarterback play.
They didn't ask him to do anything.
Five of his last seven games at Michigan,
he didn't throw a single touchdown pass.
His best college game last year,
he had won where he passed over 300 yards.
Purdue!
And when he played like,
I went and looked at,
morning the big 10 championship game against ohio state in the nattie he's thrown for about 140 yards
in the biggest games they asked him to do less and so it's nothing against him but i got you know it's like
i'm watching minnesota daniel jones sam darnald they considered extending sam darnald there's
the rumors with aaron rogers now kirk cousins he's also had two surgeries to clean up the knee
i got to see it to believe it i never bought into the hype and one of the things are the
thought was interesting. Maybe it's because he played at Michigan. I don't know why. Maybe he's got a good
agent. But there was a lot of hype a year ago in the draft. A year ago today, all you were hearing is
pooh! People are going to move up for J.J. McCarthy. They'll give up. Number one pick. Nobody did.
The Vikings gave up like a four and a five. There were two teams, and I had this very well
source that wanted to move up for Michael Pennex.
So be very careful pre-draft
what you hear. Michael Pennix, yeah,
no, no, no, two teams tried to draft Michael Pennings,
and I couldn't get him. Atlanta did.
So in Atlanta, had Kirk Cousins, they still drafted Michael Pennix.
So it's not like there was this mad rush to get J.J. McCarthy.
And I'm not saying it's not going to work. It's like Jackson Dart.
I watched Jackson Dart. I never said,
wow, franchise quarterback NFL. He's talented.
when I watched Michigan play,
it was a lot of hand on the ball off.
I mean, when they played Penn State,
the coaching staff made a decision,
we're not going to throw the ball in the second half,
like at all.
That's what I saw.
You can try to sell me on Bigfoot.
I need video.
So I got to see stuff.
There's certain things, I got to see stuff.
And sometimes it's just your resume.
Other times it's video.
So now, now, is he liked?
Is he in the wait room?
Yes, yes.
Aaron Jones' teammate.
Just saw him a couple of people.
days ago. I'm not downing he's he's working out. Here's Aaron Jones. He looks he looks great.
I've seen him today moving around. He looks good in the weight room looks good, confident.
I'm very confident in him. He has all the support around him and we're here to lift him up and
he's going to be ready to go. Yeah. For the record, I think that second surgery makes everybody
even in the building and out of it. It's like, is he going to be ready to go?
I did think I watched the preseason with J.J. McCarthy.
And what I watched was he was a little bit more athletic.
It reminded me of Bo Nix.
He was a little bit more athletic at the NFL level than I thought he would be.
He moved around.
Bo Nix.
J.J. McCarthy, they got out and moved.
They're quick.
And he's a confident kid.
So, I mean, it's just Kirk Cousins, Vikings, what do you want me to think?
Right?
Like, this is what I'm seeing.
This is what I'm seeing.
By the way, somebody I use at least once a year before the draft,
I think his draft previews are exceptional.
Lance Zerline, who's dad coach in the league.
He works for NFL.com.
He's really good on this stuff.
Very, very buttoned up.
And, you know, it's, I don't think,
because there's not a lot of star power at the top of the draft,
I have found my sources have been very honest about the draft.
They like a lot of players.
They don't love a lot.
I'm telling you, the Ohio statewide receiver,
I don't think he's getting out of the first round.
I make a...
Abuka.
Yeah.
I do not believe he's getting out of the first round.
