What up? Welcome in. This is the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be making it's part of your day. Thanks so much. I'm Doug Gottlieb. I'm in for Colin Gowardt. Collins' epic vacation, we believe, will come to an end. We'll be back Monday, maybe Tuesday.

I don't really know. I don't control Collins' catcher. Back to him. It must be Tuesday because I'm filling in for Dan on Monday, but it was a possibility of calling on Monday. So that means these are things you don't care about, I know. So you're on your way to Lake Beach, Mountain, family, or maybe, you know, in a cruel joke, cruel twist, your kids' first high school football game is tonight, or your favorite college team plays tomorrow or plays Sunday, whatever. kind of your last holiday weekend of summer is kind of screwed up a little bit. I'm sorry.

And your last Friday before, you know, college football season really truly kicks off is kind of screwed up because I'm hosting not calling. Sorry. Like, I can't help you with those things. What I can help you with is some perspective on last night. It was the late great Denny Green who on a Monday night football game. And we forget so quickly that Denny Green coach the Arizona Cardinals. We think of it,

We think of the Minnesota Vikings, but he coached the Arizona Cardinals. And the Cardinals were not very good. I think Matt Liner might have been

their quarterback. Maybe it was Kurt Warner, but it was before they made the run toward the Super Bowl. And the Bears were good. This, I think, was coming off of the Super Bowl year. And on a Monday night

football game, the Cardinals had the Bears right where they want them, and they couldn't close the deal, couldn't win the game. And they let them the hook, right? But it was the big line which most sports radio producers and board ops they have up there on screen, which is they are who we thought they were. And that's Colorado.

Right? That's Colorado. And it's always interesting to me on how we have these expectations of guy shows up and, you know, six days later they have them. sells a great football program. Now, in fairness, what I saw Bob Stoops do and transform Oklahoma was nothing short of miraculous. Oklahoma,

during the last year of the John Blake era, was an abject disaster, but it was not devoid of talent. They just, John Blake's last game, and John Blake was a, I think he passed away recently as well,

John Blake was a really well-regarded man, and recruiter, but he wasn't a very good ex and nose coach. And his last regular season game, I think his last game of his coaching career as head coach, was against Oklahoma State. And in that game, they ran some shotguns. Before we call it spread, it wasn't spread. They ran some shotgun. They ran some power eye.

And they ran some wishbone as well, all in the same game. None of it worked. None of us pretty well. There was no kind of foundation or theme or what they did. They just went out there and played. Stoops takes over. And if you remember that first year, they did take a walloping, I believe Texas A&M beat him like 66 to 3. But after that year two, it was on.

He found his quarterback in Josh Heipel, is now the head coach at Tennessee. The system, which was installed by Mike Leach. Mike Leach actually left and went to Texas Tech because the head coach after one year. They started to run the football a little bit more. It got a lot more conservative. More than anything, the defense kind of just took over and was dominant. that was a 500 team that became a national championship team in two years. And because we've seen it there, because we saw it with Urban Meyer, you know, two years in Ohio State, two years in at Florida, our assumption is that Dion Sanders could do the same thing in Colorado.

And that's not happening. Now, I don't know what their ultimate ceiling is because it stands to reason they're a better team this year than they were last. year and their league, their conference is easier this year than was last year. And you can sit there and yell and scream me all you want and say I'm some SEC or Big Ten Wonk or Pac-10 lover or whatever you want to call me. I'm actually an alum of the Big 12. I'm a proponent of the Big 12. I think the Big 12 is awesome.

And if you want to say top to bottom, there's better athletes in the Big 12 and there were in the Pac-12, I'm okay with that. The difference is last year was a special year in the Pac-12 where you had fifth-year quarterbacks at Washington at Oregon, you had the number one pick at USC, you had a six-year pick quarterback who didn't play, but now he's

seventh year at Utah. Like you just had dudes. Arizona was loaded. It was an incredible league last season. And while the Big 12, I think, will be really good, I think it's going to end up being the third best league. Some years the fourth, this year probably the third. The differences last year

was an unbelievable year, and it was year one for Colorado and they walked into a bunch of buzz saws. The difference is that this year, North Dakota State, hard game, well-coached team. They're not the same since their coached left for Kansas State. But then they go to Nebraska

and Colorado State. Two games they won at home last year after surprising everybody beating TCU to start the year. But I watched last night and I felt like anybody have kids that likes to to go to Benihana.

Have you asked my son, hey, you can pick one restaurant on earth to have a reservation at. One restaurant. And my son is not sheltered. He's really not.

He's lived in Connecticut and California and Oklahoma. He's been to Wisconsin and to Maine and to New Hampshire and to Minnesota and to Illinois. and to Texas. He's been to Oregon, to Nevada.

He's been to Arizona. He's been to a lot of places. So at 15 years old, if I would say to him, like, hey, dude, you can have a res eat at any restaurant ever on Earth right now. Do you know what he'd pick? He would pick Benihana. And to those of us who are adults, we go to Benihana and we're like, okay, here comes the egg thing.

Right, here comes the Volcano Fire. Volcano Fire. Then they'll cook the Chironsons. chicken usually first, right? The chicken first. And then they take the spatula and they can kind of flip the chicken into your mouth. They get to land in your mouth. Any of these things, anyone who's ever been to Benny Han, I was like, yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. And at the end of the day, you're like, yeah, food's fine. It's fine. It's in no way bad. But no one ever says, you know, I know you can go to a Michigan Star restaurant. but what you should do is try that Benny Hanna over Newport Beach. It's amazing.

Like, it's just not. So I look at Colorado football last night, and I think, it was like Benny Hanna. You know? Shador's good. He's better than advertised. Obviously, Travis Hunter's amazing. He's just an amazing young football player. Last touchdown catch was incredible. How do he make it?

I'm sure he's good enough on defense, although it's hard to tell. Like, we don't have an ISO cam on him. Like he's big time. Those two guys are really good football players. And, you know, they scored at the end of the first half, kind of like it's a party trick. But at the end of the day, their defense isn't very good. They can't run the football. They're kind of soft.

Shador's good. But, you know, it feels like the whole deal is just set up for him to be a star so that he can win a high some trophy. He can be a high draft pick. Like, that's really, it's not set up with the idea of, hey, let's win a bunch of football games. Let's grind it out. let's be tougher, let's be nastier, let's be meaner. No, that's not how they can play. It's just like a trip to Benihana,

whereas there's lots of kids are like, man, Colorado's playing. The rest are like, it's okay. It's fine. They beat North Dakota State. They didn't cover. There was nothing, no lasting takeaways. It's not like I want the two hours back, or two and a half hours back from watching the game, but it's not like I'm calling my friends. Like,

did you watch that game? That was the amazing game. Did you see what he did? I can't believe what he did. And then there's the weird part of Dion Sanders. They get the ball back. They get the ball back with less than two minutes to go. It's like a minute 35 in the clock. First down. And North Dakota State has one timeout.

And it's not like we haven't seen this before. Like we saw it last year. Didn't Mario Cristobal pull one of these deals out last year? Where he tried to score an extra touchdown and ended up losing the game. I think it was the Georgia Tech, I want to say, last season. anyway here you have Dionne Sainters all he has to do is take an E

take an E take an E and if they wanted to punt then they could punt then you could quick kick it and scrib it down there it would have been 10 seconds left the game is essentially over

like if you're really creative about it you can run around for 10 seconds back there before you take one of the knees and then take a knee and the game would have been over after the third play of the time expired with one time out left. Instead, they decided to

throw the ball on first down, where Shador badly under threw the ball. Lucky he wasn't intercepted. Which allowed for a bunch of times, and even though Colorado State didn't, oh, Colorado State, even though North Dakota State didn't do anything out of it, they sure as hell could have.

Here's Deon when he was talking about passing late in the game. Shador is such a good kid. Sometimes it cost him. It caused him. because at the end of the game, we just want to run the ball. Let's get out of here. And he took a shot, you know, to La Jante. Because he wanted La Jante to have a big play.

But that's his character. I'm like, dog, come on, dog. Not right now. You know, it's not time to be the good guy right now. It's time to put this game away. You ever felt like you won, but you didn't win? Let's move on from there. I'm going to try my best to hold back my anger, but we got the W.

So, okay, so here's the thing. either Shador either Shador's lying or Dion's lying right because that story doesn't make any sense remember we're told how smarter football player Shador is and I'm willing to believe it that he's ready

to be a pro quarterback I'm ready to believe it no one plays quarterback with any sort of football like you to win a game and throws the football there because his boy needs to get a touchdown.

No one does that. There's only there's only really a couple possibilities. One is they're trying to win awards. Trying to have Heisman moments, trying to win awards. That's what it felt like. You know, throwing a touchdown late

when they're in zero coverage and all you're doing is taking a knee, that's trying to pump up the stats. That's what that is. That's a possibility. could be a possibility that Dion's trying to do that for his son or trying to run up the score. That's a possibility. Or, or they're telling the truth and it's the dumbest football decision you've ever seen your life.

Possibility, but as remote a possibility as you can possibly get. So what do we have in summation? Dion thinks they're way better than they played. The rest of us watch and are like, eh, same thing. A little bit better. Same thing. You know, and you walk away thinking, Shador's good.

Travis Hunter's good. I've seen the volcano trick. I've seen the egg thing. I've seen the little flip your spatula with your piece of chicken into my mouth thing. Like, I don't know. I'm probably going to be hungry in like 40 minutes again. Anyway.

was a star Notre Dame only two seasons he really played there he had over a thousand yards rushing and he's a star running back now for the LA Rams but also a star punt returner Kyron Williams joins us in the herd

Aaron, how did it come to be? Like, who came to you and said, hey, what do you think about returning punts? You know, that was a, it was kind of an early conversation that we had coming into this season. I remember the first day of, I think, camp, Coach McVeigh came up to me. It was like, look, man, if we have to use you, we might need to use you a punt returner, you know. I feel confident you have to trust me to go back there and catch the ball and do what you got to do. So, you know, that's something I had an idea of throughout the whole training camp. You know, that's something I may do.

So when he came out and said that, it was no surprise to me. But, you know, it's something I've done before, you know, and that's something I'm not really too worried about doing them. Yeah, but I'll just tell you, I'm not a fantasy owner of yours, but fantasy owners are, like, freaking out. Like, well, okay, maybe we can get some more points out of him. But the last thing we want is our running back on the shelf. And, you know, like, you even had an injury when you first,

Scott to the down to the Rams. How do you balance that between you're a guy that wants to go hard every time you get the ball and it's an additional possession, additional chance to make a play?

On the other hand, like, you know, the lifespan of a running back is short enough to begin with. The last thing you want is, you know, to waste it on some hit on punt-return. How do you balance that?

Yeah, I mean, you're not wrong, but, you know, it's just a decision-maker as a punisher, there's knowing when you have opportunities to make one, make a play happen or not.

You know, it's something that I feel as if I have a good feeling for. And, you know, you can't play the game, expect, or thinking it's going to, the worst thing, the worst thing is worse is going to happen. So, you know, I'm just going to go out there, be a good partner and make smart decisions. And knowing that I still got to go be a running back, you know, I'm not.

I know how to, you know, pick and choose what I got to do. What is, what's it like not having Aaron Donald at Camp? I mean, it's definitely different, you know, because he was somebody who's obviously a Hollywood fan player, one of the best players who played ever on the defense side of the ball. So, you know, it's definitely different. But, you know, those young guys like Bradham, Jerry versus, you know, Kobe Turner, they're showing up. You know, they're making plays as if, you know, AD was still here. So, you know, it's good seeing that.

It's good being able to have that competitive work against them guys who, you know, who are going on. Yeah, but it's different when he's not in there. That dude, he puts fear into grown men's hearts. Oh, yeah. That's what AD does. Just ruin in practice. Hey, can you not ruin practice? All right, finally, I'll retire.

That's what I'll do. Karen Williams is doing this. In for calling him, Doug Gottlieb. This is the Hurt on Fox Sports Radio and the IHeart Radio app. Okay, so what's McVeigh really like? Like on a day-to-day basis, you're starting running back. What's your interactions with him like on a daily basis? You know, it's about ball.

You know, he's super locked in. Whether he's on the offense side or the defensive side, you know, he's super locked in. And, you know, he's always coaching. He's always out there trying to help people get better, and he's scheming. You know, you can always tell that when he's out there calling plays, he's working on, you know, he's working on getting himself better as a coach, too. You know, he's challenging himself with different looks, you know, different play calls and being able to create different looks for it as an offense, you know, be able to confuse a defense.

and, you know, be able to confuse the defense. And, you know, he's always working. You know, they can tell like that. He's always got his mind always going, always thinking about ball. But there's also a funny side to him. You know, he likes to crack jokes. He likes to do funny things and, you know, tell funny stories. And so, you know, he's a great coach.

He's one of the best coaches I've been around for sure. Did you watch the Conner Stallions documentary? Yeah, I've watched some of it a couple nights ago, actually. What do you think? I think it's funny and honestly I think it's crazy how people are willing to go that far for you know

their school or just for how much love they have it's crazy to be able to see you know because I'm a player so I never really had that fan feeling so it's crazy to see that people actually love love football just as much as we do yeah I know love it even more like

to a level of like so kind of kind of uncomfortable in terms of we'll do anything for the for the team to win as a domer you watch Michigan how much do you think that was responsible for Michigan's success? I don't think it has no to do with their success. I think they just had great players.

And the things that they were able to do is just allow them to keep winning even after they did get caught. So I just think it has much more to do with just how crazy fans are, not only these fans, but how crazy their love and passion goes for their team. Thoughts in your Irish heading into college station? Oh, yeah, I'm excited. excited to watch the game to be able to see a new team.

You know, it's crazy how many I'm three years removed to see how different it is already. So I'm excited to what they have to do and what's the store for Saturday. That is weird, right? Because, like, usually you're a couple years removed. You're like, oh, he was a young buck when I was there. He was

red shirting when I was there. Like, now they have, you know, every year now bringing in a new quarterback new dudes. That's just, and especially for a place like Notre Dame, which has not been a transfer haven in years in the past. It is interesting to turn on your, and you're not that far removed and not and legit need somebody's name because you don't know who that guy is. Right. I just don't know. You know, they don't have the name of the back of their

jerseys either. So you got to really know them to know who they are. And I just, you know, I'm so far removed. I don't. You guys open the season against the team that everyone's talking about because they, they took the Niners, you know, all the way to the end in the playoffs. And, you know, the Lions, obviously you have a former Rams quarterback. You've got the GMs, former Rams personnel guy. Like, there's a lot of Rams to what they do. Look, I know it's the whole season.

It's not just one game. They're not a rival. But what is it like for you in prepping for that Lions game where you're a team that, let's just be honest, people aren't talking about the Rams. A couple years removed from Super Bowl, Hall of Fame quarterback, elite coach, people aren't talking about what's it like for you to be preparing for a game

where people are talking about the lions more than talking about the Rams? Man, I don't really hear too much, you know. We don't really try to stay in the headlines. At least I've done at all. And so I don't really hear too much that's going on. I'm just worried about focusing on how I can get better each and every single day so that when Sunday comes on the best player version of me to go allow, help my team to go win. So, you know, I think we're just continuing to keep working and keep, you know,

bonding and gelling other team. we know who we're playing obviously, but, you know, we're the first game with the season. We're excited for what the challenge is, and, you know, we're going in there, knowing that no one, it's us against everybody. So we're just, you know, excited for the opportunity that we have to open up the season on September 8th.

Like, I'm never going to see this guy again, ever. Yeah, that's crazy, man. It's crazy the business and that business side part of it when you get close to guys. And then some of those guys, you know, unfortunately don't make it.

And so it's crazy to be able to, you know, just move on from, you know, be to what it used to be like, I guess. But, you know, it's just the business that we got ourselves into. And we just got to continue just to remember what's the goal in if at all. Yeah, no question. But, like, you're sharing a locker room with a guy for, like, a couple weeks. And all of a sudden, next thing you know, like, you don't see him ever. Keys, Keys, Keyes.

So, you know, that's just something that, you know, for me growing up, that's something I remember doing when I was with my family. You know, we would always go to, you know, places like Buffalo or, you know, different just type of sports bars to be able to catch, you know, all the NFL, NFL games. So I parted with them just be able to allow other people those experiences, those experiences I have. Karen, listen, man, we wish you nothing but success.

start here because he's back again, Doug. Cam Rising, quarterback for Utah kicked off his seventh year of college football with a bang last night, throwing a career high five touchdown passes in their dominating win over southern Utah. So let's break this down because yes, you heard that correctly. Rising, seventh season of college football. How's this possible? 2018 started at Texas, redshirted. 2019 transfers to Utah red shirts again NCAA denied his waiver for immediate eligibility 2020 permitted an additional season due to COVID 21 and 22 he starts for Utah 23 medical redshirt and now here we are 24 starting again and get this technically still eligible and could play

in eighth year if he wanted to but he did tell reporters that uh that uh that That's not the plan. Seven years is more than enough. So as of now, his plan to be done after seven seasons in college football and got things rolling for the Utah youths last night. Well, you know, Alan Bowman is similarly in his seventh year with Oklahoma State, and they'll take on each other. That'll be the two oldest quarterbacks ever. That's great. And he started his career at Texas Tech.

Was it Texas Tech for three years. then was at Michigan as a backup and I think he played in six games total for two years and then last year they were playing three quarterbacks he ends up getting names starting quarterback like midway through the year and now he's back for year seven that's incredible so that's crazy because for him

he has been in college for seven years but probably only has as you've mentioned there maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of like 10 starts Rising actually got a couple of full seasons and so that's kind of remarkable. to go that long in college and finally be the full-time starter in your seventh year. But good for him. It's got to be weird.

Yeah. It's got to be weird. Yeah, I mean, look, I... Rising to be somewhere six straight years, to be one place six straight years is that's got to be. Yeah, I mean, obviously a lot there with... Like, hey, do you want to go to this meeting? Like, I've been to that meeting. I don't remember if it was year two or year four or year five.

I was at that meeting. It's sort of a... It's sort of pro. the sense that, you know, with like Kyle Whittingham, it's like, okay, coach, yep, no, it's a great story. You know, people used to say that about it. If you're with Pete Carroll for too long, you've kind of heard all the same stories, two, three, four times over again.

Cam Rising's like, oh, yeah, coach, no, yeah, I'm aware. I heard that four years ago, so we're all good here. But, you know, all the best of Cam Rising in this seventh and potentially final season in college football. But now we're going to turn to the pros, Doug, because no surprise here, some news out of the NFL, Miami Dolphins, giving their heads. head coach Mike McDaniel contract extension through the 2028 season. Now the Dolphins, of course, have made the playoffs in McDaniel's first two seasons in Miami,

and they had the number one total offense in the NFL last year. Still, however, Dolphins have not won a playoff game since 2000. Yikes. Yeah, I mean, like, look, I think this has got to be the last year where you feel like they have a chance. because next year, that's when Tua's contract goes live. And I just, if you can't surround him with the elite talent that they've had, I don't see them being an elite team. He's fine. He's not bad.

Sure. But as much as he's discussed, he's not in league quarterback. And, you know, they're a team that they got to have home games in the playoffs to be successful just because, you know, they're a little bit weather dependent. Yeah. But I think there's no question that his style, like, coaching is one that people like and it works. I just think the ceiling they're bumping into is personnel-based.

Yeah, I mean, it's tough for them because it's all sort of circumstantial on the road you have ahead based off of who the good teams are. And for Tua, we saw it last year. Obviously, Chiefs have been reigning supreme in the AFC, and there was a particularly cold weatherfront that rolled through Kansas City, and they struggled to even move the ball in those freezing cold. temperatures. But some of these other teams too, like you expect Buffalo to be one of those teams, whether it's at the end of the regular season or throughout the playoffs. They're going to have to

go into Buffalo, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, I mean, I guess even potentially the Jets on how they do with Aaron Rogers. And so that's what's going to be tough for them and the way that they're built is, I guess one team they would be lucky to potentially match up with. It would be like the Houston Texans. That could be something that could play to their advantage if they ever had to play on the road in Houston. You know, we know this a lot with Peyton Manning in his heyday back with the Colts and being

able to play inside, but then sometimes struggled when, you know, they had to go into Foxborough. Correct. Yeah. So looks like Miami and Tua shaping up to have a long relationship with Mike McDaniel, but whether or not they'll be able to translate that into some substantial

playoff wins, well, that remains to be seen. You actually touched on this with Kyron Williams there. They have their week one game Rams Lions. Let's talk about the Lions though here. They got their first playoff win in over three decades last season and they're in prime position to be a contender in the NFC this year. Maybe even a real Super Bowl contender. Don't believe me? Well, why don't you just ask them? Their general manager, Brad Holmes, who came over from the Rams, was asked what his expectations are for this season. Quote, win the Super Bowl. Simple, straight to the point,

Doug. Win the Super Bowl. That's all Detroit cares. about anymore. Quite a turnaround from where we were just a couple seasons ago. I don't see them winning a Super Bowl at Jericho's quarterback. I just don't. I don't see it. I can be wrong. Don't see it. And then, you know, like, look, even their decision-making last year, coaches' decision-making in terms of when to go and not go, you know, was weird in San Fran. I thought last year they had the chance, even though they were on the road, they had San

Fran on the ropes, and they couldn't capitalize. So, I just, whatever reason, and it's not like Brock Purdy sets the world on fire, I just... Sure. I don't, I'm just not a buyer there. Yeah, I mean, it's much like what we saw with how Goff was able to be successful with the Rams is the lions are very much in that sweet spot still. I mean, they are totally loaded. They have offensive line to give him the protection that he needs. otherwise we know Goff easily gets rattled.

They have great running backs that he can hand the ball off to, and they have other offensive pieces to work on offense. So this is the best situation, and year to year, you don't know how things are going to evolve in the next year, and who wants to get paid and new contracts and whatever, and offensive lines get old very quickly. So if there's going to be a year,

it certainly feels like this year. I honestly think one of the biggest things they're going to run into is, I think the Packers are going to be real, real players. And so last year was a great window for them with Kirk Cousins went down. The Bears were still struggling. And the Packers, you know, it took until halfway through the season or so for them to get their stuff figured out. And now, I mean, we'll see what happens with the Bears and Caleb Williams,

but all early returns in the preseason is at least they are substantially improved over last year. It looks like the Bears actually have a quarterback, and the Packers continue to look like they're super talented. But none of it matters until we get to the game. But I'm with you. I'm with you. And I think Minnesota is still going to be pretty good. I do.

Maybe that's because, as you know, I'm one of the few. Colin still also holding a couple shares of Sam Donald. No, no, no, Colin has a much larger holding of Sam Darnold shares than he'll even admit publicly, I'm sure. True, but I'll actually publicly. admit it, so I'm okay saying it, you know. Anyway, point is, yeah, I think division

is tough, and they're playing a tougher schedule. We do have this sort of expectation, and, you know, obviously we'll see what ends up playing out with the Lions, but we do have this expectation that teams that sort of come out of nowhere, have a

promising postseason run, that it's like, there's a steady increase, like, oh, first you win a playoff game, and then you go to the NFC championship, game, which means the next year you go to the Super Bowl and the Lions could be like what we saw with the Bills, who we thought the Bills were, got to an AFC championship game and it's like, oh, they're going to be going to toe to toe with the Chiefs every year and it's going to be one of the two of them always going to the Super Bowl.

And it's like, ever since then, it's, oh, wait, actually the Bengals might be better. And oh, you can't get back to the AFC championship game. So it's never a lot guaranteed that these teams that find success are just immediately improving the next year. No question. A lot of times, it's harder to have a second good year or a third good year than it is to have just a good year. 100%. You know? And as you point out, they're loaded. A lot like Tampa Buccaneers were loaded for you because, you know, when you're bottom five in a league, bottom 10 in the league, you're drafting good players every year. Even if you miss on one every other year. Sure.

And I think, look, Jameson Williams, like, they hadn't gotten much out of him. And by all accounts, he's way better this year. So their talent may be better, but it doesn't matter in terms of. Everybody has talent, and you've got to figure out a way to get them all to pull in the same direction. That's rhyme music with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. But when we start to go through all the great wide receivers, do people list Brandon Ayyuk? And maybe it's that he's part of the system, part of an ensemble cast, they have so many good players there that he gets caught up. But I thought the decision was pretty evident for him in that he was presented with a potential trade to the Patriots. Like, look, either you can be one of the best players with the Niners and have a chance to win Super Bowl, or you can be the best player with the Patriots and not win anything. It's like, no, I want to stay with the Niners. Okay, well, that's how works. So he gets 120 guaranteed. He's not the high. He's not the high. is paid, but it's a lot of money.

What's interesting is, does anyone feel any more or less sure of the Niners the likelihood of success since a Yuc has consummated his deal? No. But if you get down to it and you're like, well, what about

Trent Williams? Now, that one is interesting. Now, Trent Williams is older. He's done this holdout thing before, so he's a pro at it. But he's older. and he wasn't great at the end of last season, and I'm sure that he's probably past the point of no return in terms of getting back to being a superstar, but he's still a leader and a really good player,

and you want him. So it's trying to thread that needle. But the reality is, if you're the Niners, your season is much more dependent upon having Trent Williams than is on heaven brand of Ayuk. Iyuk is going to help you win a game in the regular season or two, but you have no chance of getting where you want to get to without Trent Williams, whereas you could survive without Ayyuk.

you could survive so congrats everybody was kind of annoyed with this story you're like yeah is he playing it now why not I don't know everybody was kind of annoyed with the story

now nobody's annoyed anymore now we just move on now Trent Williams that becomes interesting and Trent you know for his part he knew how toxic a situation it was in Washington he forced his way out of there

but now you're in a state situation, you can't make this and you're like, well, this is my last big payday, great. But you got the chance of the immortality of becoming a Super Bowl champion. I don't think you have that chance if you overpay for Trump Williams because

he doesn't have nearly the tread life left that Ayuk does, that Debo Samuel has, that Brock Purdy has, that some of their other players have, they're younger, they're going to have more opportunities.

Now, some of you might say, well, if it's your last bite at the apple, take as big a bite as you can because you're never going to get all that NFL money. I agree. But the biggest post-career benefits you're going to get are if you come from winning a Super Bowl. Everybody wants to have a Super Bowl champion on their commercial, represent their car dealership, represent their industry, represent whatever it is. So if you're Trent Williams, you've got to calculate that. What is the most I can push for while still maintain the integrity of the team that we have? Because in order for me to make the Hall of Fame, in order for me to do all these things I want to do, it really, really helps post career if you've won a Super Bowl during your career. All right, we got an outstanding final two hours of the show.

And yet the Big Ten has how many teams? The SEC, Texas and Oklahoma are in the SEC. and look at the big 12, it's weird.

Weird. But we haven't gotten to the, and I'll say the weirdest part about conference play is Colorado is now a big 12 team. I'm an alum of a big 12 team. Traditionally, you're supposed to kind of root for, you don't want them to look good, and you want to think you can beat them,

but you have to root for your Big 12 or SEC or Big Ten brethren. Now you're like, wait, now I've got to root for Colorado. Like, I liked it way better when I could just make fun of them. Think about that. Now, if you're a big 10, you're an Ohio state fan, you're like, I need SC to be good this year. It helps our league. You're a Georgia alum.

You're like, I need Oklahoma to be good this year. Helps our league. Or if you're an Oklahoma alum, you're like, I need Alabama, I need Texas, I need A&M to pick it up. I need them to beat Notre Dame. That's just weird. I mean, the word weird has become really a big talking point over the last couple months. Nothing more weird than seeing those teams.
