This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care which I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated. So let's get to it.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit are?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

Oh, it is a Monday, our first NFL season Monday.
They're always fun.
Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd wherever you may be,
and however you may be listening or watching.
Thanks for making us part of your day.
One hour from now where Colin was right,
a lot of that, and where Colin was wrong.
A little bit of that as well.
Haselbeck, Michael Irvin, stopped by the show today.
Well, I think the Atlanta Falcons are out of my herd hierarchy top 10.
I got to tell you, all of us know.
You can't overreact.
There are some things you look at and you go, wow, that's troubling.
And then there's a lot of stuff you look at.
These rookie quarterbacks all struggled.
You've got to understand that they all struggled.
But last night, maybe, I feel strongly about this, Jay Mack.
it may be a preview of the NFC championship.
I've got to tell you, I have two big takes last night.
Number one, Detroit got outplayed and out-coached and won.
That's okay.
That's not Detroit we grow up with.
They are not a one-off from last year.
They're tough, they're resilient, they're deep,
their offensive lines are the best in football,
and that's a pretty good sign.
The Rams dominate the second half with McVey and Stafford
and the Lions won in overtime,
where the Rams looked exhausted and just,
ran out of players.
Now, the lions got a little bit cute for me.
This is a power run team.
You know, I like Jared Goff more than everybody else, I think, on the planet.
Less Goff, more running.
Two really good backs.
One's a star.
Offensive lines, the best in football.
I would just run nonstop if I was Detroit and Dan Campbell.
So my first take is Detroit would have not only lost this game in previous decades in years.
They may have gotten blown out, and they won, and they were outplayed for big chunks of
in the second half, all the second half, except
overtime, and I think they were out coached.
Here's my second take.
That's the best loss
I've seen in years for any team.
The Rams were missing both their offensive
tackles, their best corner,
three offensive linemen, no
Pook in Nakuwa, down 14 at half,
Sunday night football, in
Detroit, and Matt Stafford
put on a clinic.
That's the best quarterback in the NFC.
That's a top five quarterback in the NFL.
I don't care what list you're doing.
He and Coo, he and Coo,
per cup without Pooka Nakua, not a lot of time to throw, backups on the offensive line,
they went into the teeth of that defense and just first down, first down, first down,
dominated total plays, dominated third down, dominated time of possession, and they were down
several of their top players, and it got to overtime, and they ran out of bodies, and they ran out
of gas.
And Detroit, maybe because they were so fatigued, said, guys, let's not get cute.
let's just run the football over and over and over
and the Lions. This is what they should be doing.
Nine out of ten plays.
And you know, I'm a golf fan.
This team is built to control the clock.
What happened in the second half of Detroit should not happen?
Run the ball, eat the clock, force teams to get physical,
because I don't think many can.
So I would not be shocked.
This was a great loss by the Rams.
They'll never be this unhealthy.
I would not be shocked if this isn't the NFC championship.
That's how strongly I feel about it.
In fact, I think the Lions got too cute and the Rams ran out of people.
But it's week one, don't overreact, and here was Dan Campbell, the winning coach after.
I knew it was going to be a hard-fought game.
I did know that.
Because I think this coach does a hell of a job.
You know, I do.
I think Sean always puts together a good game plan.
And then Stafford, man, you know, it's almost like you don't want to hit him because I think,
think when you hit him, he plays better.
Yeah, Matt Stafford, whatever you think of all the great quarterbacks in this league,
and we can put Mahomes on a level above everybody else, then it gets into the Herberts and Lamar's,
and whoever you want up there.
Half of you want back.
Nobody throws a prettier football, including Mahomes than Matt Stafford.
And for all you young quarterbacks, this is what it looks like.
all you young quarterback's in.
You're missing your tackles.
Your best or second best receivers out.
You're on the road.
You're down 14.
Do you understand that you could put some of the most talented players in the world in that spot as a quarterback
and they would be engulfed by it?
They'd be overwhelmed by it.
On the road, one of the louder stadiums, pass rush everywhere, missing your tackles,
three missing offensive linemen.
Your top corners are out.
And Matt Stafford put that franchise on his shoulders last night,
against a great football team and nearly pulled it out.
There are not five quarterbacks on the planet that can do what Matt Stafford did last night.
That was a clinic.
They just ran out of bodies.
Good game, good teams.
All right.
So, Dak Prescott, you know, Jerry Jones loves this.
Right before the game, Jerry Jones announces DAC has a new deal.
So it's $230 million, $60 million annual average.
You know, four years, 240.
million. So two things happened yesterday
with the Cowboys that are very predictable.
They paid a lot of money
for a player they drafted. They love
to do that. And the Cowboys
looked absolutely brilliant in week
one of the regular season. Do you know what they did
last year in Week 1 of the regular season?
They won by 40 points.
This is what the Cowboys do.
Now Cleveland's a mess. The Deshawn Watson
contract, I don't know what happened.
He's not the same player. I can't explain it.
13 starts for Cleveland.
He's got a 78 passer rating in
completing 59% of his throws.
He's not as athletic. He doesn't see the field.
He's not that accurate. I never loved him as a quarterback.
He's bad now.
So I don't know what to say about it. He changed jerseys.
I don't know. It's not working.
Now, he was missing some offensive lineman.
Dallas has a good pass rush.
I'm trying to contextualize all of it.
But that contract now, you thought the Russell Wilson-Denver deal was a bad one, but they hit
on Bo Nix.
So that means they'll be able to make up on that big salary for Russell Wilson very quickly
in one year.
Cleveland's trapped three years of that.
And when you're missing offensive linemen,
you don't want to face the Cowboys, because they got a pass rush.
But it was so Dallas.
Sunny weather,
Dak's got a new contract,
the pass rush is humming.
It just felt like Dallas.
And the reason I've always stayed very consistent with my cowboy predictions
is because the Cowboys stay consistent.
They overpay, they win a lot in the regular season,
and inevitably,
they don't do very well in January.
In fact, what I was really blown away with
was the play calling by Mike McCarthy.
It was such a classic cowboy quarter.
They were getting a great pass rush.
McCarthy and Dak were in rhythm,
beautiful sequencing by the Cowboys,
and then they almost butcher it at the end of the half with a clock.
I hit a 66-yard field goal,
but they mess situationally.
They messed up their clock, the timeout.
It just was so Dallas.
pass rush, play calling and
DAC humming, and they can't quite get
situational football right.
But I'm not going to get too
worked up over this because I've seen this movie
so many times. I still think it's a very,
very weak running back room.
I still think they're incredibly
dependent on CD Lamb, but to Mike
McCarthy's credit,
they use CD Lamb.
It didn't matter if it was jet sweeps,
bubble screens, down the field,
to Mike McCarthy's credit, and he's a good
coach. I don't think he's a great one. He's a good one.
they went to CDLAM.
I don't know if you can sustain that for 17 weeks.
I think teams with better corners and a better consistent pass rush could give them trouble.
But the last three years, the Dallas Cowboys, I kid you not, look it up, have one more regular season games than the San Francisco 49ers.
Okay?
So I've seen this before.
But let's be honest.
Here's the good news.
If DAC is your quarterback, you're never in chaos.
If DAC is your quarterback, you're always viable.
Until about January 15th, if DAC is your quarterback, Jerry Jones is happy, and here is Jerry on the new deal for DAC.
I'm happy that it's done.
This was a time when it was right there for us to do.
We were all set to go, and that's so critical.
I've seen so many things that were worthy of doing that weren't done because you missed the timing to make it happen.
opening day up here against Cleveland.
This was a great time to make it happen.
So there is so many things happen in week one and you can't overreact to it.
I mean, that's one of the things you just can't do.
You can't overreact to this stuff.
But I will say the Jim Harbaugh win for the Chargers,
and I know that was a corner TV game for Eladia.
That was impressive.
That was an ugly football game,
and I want to give Jim Harbaugh some credit on the other side.
did you have Michael Irvin Matt Hasselbeck
what was your big
interpretation of week
obviously Cincinnati
without their receivers is a water pistol
offense I thought New England's defense
the physicality of the Patriots was impressive
I mean they were blowing plays up left and right
big picture I'd go back to Friday night
and the Jordan love injury Colin I know you love the Packers
you thought Super Bowl I think Pete Trager said they're going to the Super Bowl
maybe if he's out a month
and it's Malik Willis has been reported
Like there's conflicting reports on if they're going to go after Ryan Tannahill.
But if it's Malik Willis, Packers are done.
The season's over if he's out for a month.
There's just no chance.
Not in that division in a pretty stacked NFC.
Yeah.
I didn't love the Friday game because it took four great teams were taken off the Sunday schedule by Thursday and Friday.
But that game was awesome.
Yeah, it was.
I was watching a lot of bad quarterback play yesterday.
And I think we all should take a deep breath.
Young quarterbacks are going to struggle.
what would concern me if you're Tennessee
or you're the New York Giants when you don't have
a rookie quarterback and your guy looks like he
can't play. Or Carolina
could be frightening. Like, do we have to redraft
the quarterback position? But there were
some really good teams that lost. I think
the Rams are excellent. I think the Indianapolis
Colts are a really
interesting football team. Now,
that was one of your bets and a lot of wise
guys lost on that. The wise guys
lost on Tennessee and the
Colts. Well, Colts covered depending on the number
you got. The Panthers was a
tough fate. I mentioned Joe Burrow
somehow escaped criticism
here in the first 10 minutes of the show. I'm
borderline shocked given how bad
the Bengals look. Yeah. Well, again, I want
to contextualize it. No, Jamar Chase,
T. Higgins, it said, you just...
Jamar Chase got a lot down. It was
a corner TV, did he? Yeah,
the kid Gonzalez held him to like
two catches in the second half. Jamar Chase
couldn't do anything. And Burrow look.
Not tier one.
Well, again, but remember,
Bengals are bad week one.
Jamar wasn't at practice.
You're talking about going up.
I mean, even Jamar Chase mentioned if I played it's limitations,
how many snaps, T. Higgins out.
Boyd's gone.
The three.
Joe Mixon's gone.
So you basically took all of the weapons and you give him Jamar Chase,
who's playing limited snaps, limited service.
I mean, I just don't, I didn't even care.
Like, that was one of those games I didn't care about.
Like, the other game I didn't watch it.
I mean, it's a corner game.
It's in the corner TV.
It was Atlanta, Pittsburgh.
I know I'm supposed to watch it, but I was like, I'm not going to buy Pittsburgh if they win like they did.
So like some games mattered to me.
I really wanted to watch Seattle, Denver, and Bo Nix.
I really wanted to see him play.
Everybody was banging on him, but I actually thought he was okay for a rookie on the road against a great defensive coach and great corners.
Okay.
I mean, he had a bad pick, but I'm not, the Cincinnati thing I don't care about.
You don't care that they opened at home?
No.
That they started the game, three and out, three and out, three and out, with a tier one.
quarterback? If you took my four best
producers off the show, one came
back sparingly for a couple of snaps,
we're not going to be great.
That's just the reality of what,
I mean, running back, star receiver,
number two receiver, number three receiver.
They got Chiefs this week. When they start
0 and 2, then what?
They're going to go, they're going to be very interesting
this week. They're not beating the Chief this weekend.

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta,
you already know there's a lot to break down.
Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Pinky has financial issues.
I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.

What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, point game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series.
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
while he got the ball, like,
after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
You know, we all pick games on a Sunday that we really want to watch.
The Chargers Raiders was really interesting to me.
So the Chargers were one and nine in their last 10 games where they didn't score more than 22.
And yesterday, 22 or more, yesterday they scored 22 and they won.
And that's Jim Harbaugh.
he's a little bit like a very successful Hollywood director where budget runs on time
you know the production runs on time he has a clear style you know it's his movie and he
didn't know us have to have movie stars to win I mean I watched that game last year this team
last year and they had to score 34 to win with a defensive coach now they have an offensive coach
and it was your classic rock fight it was just in the alley they don't have a lot of weapons on the
perimeter. Justin Herbert had to make two or three big throws, but Herbert now could execute the
offense instead of beat the offense. Every Harbaugh team, every game, I know exactly what I'm
getting. Tough physical. Joe Alt, you know, nobody knew who they were going to draft. They're
going to get a receiver. Harbaugh drafts Joe Alt, the Notre Dame tackle. Didn't allow a sack or a
pressure. Even got matched up against Max Crosby a few times.
no pressures.
It was so classic hardball, beginning with the staff, he gets a coordinator that likes to run,
the draft, he takes size up front, and I watched that game yesterday, and it's always
function over fashion.
If you want to put up stats, if you want to be the man that is not Harbaugh, they're very,
the rookie receiver let them in catches.
They've got like number two running backs everywhere.
They need another offseason and a draft to get better offensively.
There's some clear limitations.
But the great Max Crosby lined up across from Joel multiple times didn't even have a pressure.
Forget Sacks.
So they were very sloppy early.
They've got some youth on that offense.
But I thought overall, it was just so classic chargers.
It was say hello to your new Los Angeles chargers, less flash, more.
finishing and here was Harbaugh after.
I thought it was
lights out.
Really great defense by our guys and
just super
happy about it.
The whole team was inspired.
We had a lot of three and outs in this game.
But when we needed
to not have a three and out the most
and get to take the ball
92 yards
and 80 yards.
and 80 yards in the second half.
I mean, those were game-winning drives.
I mean, it's classic.
The Raiders had more first downs, double the passing first downs.
The Raiders were better on third down.
The Raiders threw for more yards.
The Raiders won time of possession, and the Chargers won the game.
That's Harbaugh.
Second half, Jim Harbaugh's team, lean forward, run the football, be physical and punt.
very good situational coach Antonio Pierce is punting Jim Harbaugh leaning in very aggressive it's just this is this team could not win games unless they want to shoot out they bring in an offensive coach with the same defensive players because their first two picks were offensive guy same guys and they win a game where they had six passing first downs and 11 total first
downs. That is coaching. That is coaching. The offensive coach, through physicality and culture,
created with the same dudes, a much better defense. J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I saw one of those
Chargers stats where I think they had like 21 first downs and 16 times they started with a run,
like their first play. They just, that's all they want to do. Run the football. And
They got a massive offensive line, Colin.
Chargers team's interesting.
The Joe Alt had a great, a great week one.
I know a lot of these young quarterback struggled,
but Joe Alt was better than advertised.
Did you see that scrum like in the end zone?
And Joe Alt comes in and he's like towering over everyone.
Oh my gosh, like Trent Williams.
All right, let's get started with Monday Night Football.
My Jets, Aaron Rogers, back on the field to face the 49ers.
Coming off last season's Achilles injury,
Roger spoke to SNY about his return as part of a full sit-down for their pregame show
that will air tonight at 5 Eastern ahead of the game.
The ups and downs, the highs, the lows, the in-between, the appened last year.
There'll be a lot of appreciation for being able to be back on the field.
There was definitely thoughts in the locker room after I got hurt that that was going to be it.
So to be able to go back on the field will be a really sweet emotional moment for me.
You want a title in New York, you go down and it is.
like very few other places. So there's a lot of special feels around this organization.
It's a proud organization, proud fan base. Hopefully we can give them a lot to cheer about.
I got to tell you, I'm a little nervous. Do you ever get this feeling in your stomach?
Yeah. I don't want Aaron to get hurt again. Oh, I know, but I'm thinking makeshift O-line,
San Francisco Great Pass Rush, taking four snaps in 500-some days. My whole take is, and I
I think the Jets are going to play really well tonight.
I think it's a field goal game.
I have the Jets and the points.
I think it's going to be a very competitive game.
I think in two months I may be not, but I think right now the Niners are totally vulnerable.
Christian McAfree, Trent Williams' health, or Christian's health, Trent's holdout.
I think the Niners are about as vulnerable as they're going to get right now.
I think they'll be fine.
But I do think the Jets defense, I think this game is a little bit like a much more skilled version of the Chargers Raiders.
A lot of it's played between the 30s, not a ton of first downs.
The defense is going to kind of control it.
Each team will have a very good opening series,
but then defense will win the day,
and I think it's a 26, 20, 2420 field of the game.
Yeah, one thing we saw in week one so far
is these quarterbacks who didn't play in the preseason,
they did not look good at all in week one.
Like almost across the board.
A couple of, like Lamar Jackson was pretty good for the Ravens.
And then you tossed in, Rogers, didn't play last year,
his age and the Achilles.
There's a lot of being, I mean, there's, I'm watching this game tonight.
I don't sit and watch a lot of pregame shows.
Like, I'm just interested in all of Aaron Rogers.
And there is part of me thinking, just stay upright.
Stay on your feet, get rid of the ball, run the ball.
Listen, the league is better when Aaron's playing.
I'm sorry, it's a better league.
He's a guy that gives us content.
So the Jets last year were unwatchable and they won seven games.
So, and I think after watching.
Buffalo's defense and Miami's offense was hit and miss.
I think the division's wide open.
New England's probably a little better than we thought,
but I wouldn't take much from week one on Cincinnati, New England.
I took a flyer on the first half under thinking it's going to be, you know, slow start feeling out.
Yeah, 21 and a half.
Yeah.
Maybe it's like 10-10 at the half.
I think so.
I do too.
I think it's just a really physical fun football game.
We've been very lucky.
The standalone game so far have been Kansas City, Baltimore.
Unbelievable.
Philadelphia Green Bay Wild.
Rams, Lions, Overtime.
These standalone games.
Well, the best teams.
Well, it's also you can just dive into it.
Nothing against the Red Zone.
But like yesterday at 1 o'clock, I wanted to watch Bears' Titans.
Nothing against the rest of you teams, but I didn't care.
I wanted Bears Titans every snap.
How was that?
Well, it was, you know what?
It was, I learned a lot.
Oh, really?
But I don't think it was artistic football.
Yeah, I think I would agree.
Next up is the Miami Dolphins.
They got a lucky, and I'm sorry Dolphins fans, it was luck, okay?
They got a lucky one over the Jags.
But what happened before the game was the big story.
Tyreek Hill was detained by police on his way to Hard Rock Stadium.
You know, the police kind of went a little overboard,
and there was a verbal altercation.
Here's Tyreek Hill afterward on what went down.
Right now, I'm still trying to put it all together.
So I'm not going to give you a version that I still don't.
know what happened. I don't want to bring it racing to it but sometimes it's kind of iffy
when you do, you feel me? So what if I wasn't Tyrie Kiel? Laura knows like what that guy or
guys would have did, you feel me? I'm just glad that my teammates were there to like support
me in that situation because I felt alone, you know, and when they showed up, um, it made like,
it made me realize that we got a good team this shit, though, for them to like put their,
for them to put their life on the line, you know what I'm saying? So,
It was amazing to see, man.
Yeah, weird, weird situation.
According to a reporter who was there, Tyreek has been cited for careless driving.
I don't even know what that is.
And a seatbelt violation.
Yet somehow it escalated to get on the ground.
A seatbelt violation?
I don't.
You got to do, sorry, law enforcement.
Got to do better than that.
It's a good thing.
You know, Samaritans out here were videotaping the thing because it looks like something bad went down.
If you're looking at the screen, like, it's like, oh my gosh, what happened?
he wasn't wearing his seatbelt and careless drive.
I don't.
Not good.
Anyway, Tyreek had a pretty good game.
80-yard touchdown reception that kind of flipped it.
And Jalen Waddle also had a big play.
Waddle had a good game, A-chan.
That took them a while.
And by the way, I think this, that pre-game situation,
I think it's hard for teams wrestle with that stuff.
I think this team's going to be really good.
I thought they were really sluggish early.
By the way, there was a play by Holland, the safety.
Oh, the punch, the peanut punch.
That is one of the plays of yesterday.
Maybe the best defensive play all day was by a safety.
He's good, Javon Holland, yeah.
He came out, Jacksonville was going to score.
He punched the ball out at the one.
Miami recovers and takes entire momentum from the game.
Nobody's going to talk about that play because it's all fantasy and offense.
That is the defensive play of the weekend by Holland.
So Jagger grew up 177.
Yes.
E.Ns at the 1 to go up 24-7.
Games over.
With like 17 minutes left in the game.
He punches it out.
Dolphins recover.
Use that.
Next play was the Tyree Kill 80-yard touchdown.
It was like, Bing, Bang, and then, you know.
I hope we just understand that should be something coaches use on film.
That's the punchout tackle.
That was the, forget all the other stuff.
That was the game for Miami, that play by Holland.
What's the kid?
Charles, Peanut Tillman.
No, he was the legend at that.
He was the one who started it, but he was well known for the peanut punch.
They're down 24-7 without that play by Holland.
Game over.
I don't know what to do with the Jags-Con.
Trevor Lawrence was like completed three passes in the second half for like 27 yards.
Like the Jags look pretty good.
And then to lose that game, I don't really know what to do with them.
My take is Houston is going to win that division for a decade.
I am so blown away by C.J. Stroud, yeah.
And by Anthony Richardson is such an insane athlete.
He's got some potential.
Watching C.J. Stroud play quarterback.
It's literally, I feel bad if you have a young quarterback and you watch
C.J. Stroud. He makes everything
look so effortless.
It's a little bit like Herbert. You put him back
there, 1001, 1002, and the
ball is always deliberate accurately.
Always. Final story
is Josh Allen had a big
day for Buffalo. Buffalo
was in trouble early down 173.
They were bad early. Josh Allen bailed him out, though.
Monster game, 271 total yards, four touchdowns.
He had two rushing, two
passing. He really put the team on his back.
You know, I mean, you don't want to
think MVP after one
here's my question
Colin he was
he's the whole offense again
well that is a problem
so hardball gets through the
chargers immediately
he takes the burden
off
Herbert yeah how many years
I'm watching them and I'm like I'm watching
all the weapons Philadelphia has
and the Niners have and the Detroit
and the Rams have are we just going to be the
Josh Allen centric show again is that
all the offense is that's it
It? Yeah, not sustainable.
It's not layered at all.
It's like I like Cook, but it's just Josh Allen is Superman.
Put a cape on it.
But who are you more concerned for?
Remember Lamar Thursday. We both agree.
Ran way too much.
He's taken hits.
He's got excellent weapons.
Andrews, that receiving core is the best he's had in years.
I feel like I just watched it.
I'm like, yeah, Josh Allen's great.
Okay, I know that's been established.
Yeah. Is Mack Holland?
I think they could go out and get a receiver at the trade deadline.
I really do. If I was them, I would look at the Raiders and Devante Adams.
You got to give, this team has to have a second gear beyond Josh Allen.
Huh.
Yeah, listen, I don't think the long term this is going to work, but I think Alan could win the MVP if he's doing this stuff.
But we care. It's football. We don't care about MVP.
Yeah, but he's always been like the second banana to Mahomes, you know.
We know he's a great player. We all know that.
I just don't, I think the organization, it's a little bit like Cam and Carolina.
The reason Cam aged so fast, it was like they didn't get him enough good players and playmakers
so they could pull back on his constant domination of the offense.
By the way, the Buffalo defense was torched by Kyler Murray.
Kyler Murray looked good first half.
Second half, I don't know what the hell happened to him.
I mean, come on.
You bang on Kyler Murray nonstop.
I do.
He was good.
His little feet battered around yesterday.
No, he is.
First of all, Bill's Arizona was one of the most.
That was one of the best games to watch.
I think it was the first kickoff.
return and the new rules was by
DJ Dallas.
Here's the thing, if you don't get the kick
into the end zone, the returner
has such a runway. There's only one line
of people. Right, and they're all way back
and it was like, oh, geez, there's something there.
DJ Dallas was like the number three running
back with the Seahawks, that's right? And I'm
watching them and I'm like, he's a kick returner?
Boom, gone. Yeah. That wildly
entertaining game. Good game. Certainly.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
Heard line news.
Well, so I sat and I watched every snap, maybe regrettably, of the Bears' Titans.
There was no offense.
It was all defense and special teams.
Here's the good news for Chicago.
You won a game that in the history or franchise you would normally lose.
I mean, you would do what Tennessee would do.
You'd outplay somebody and lose.
You got outplayed and won.
That never happens in Chicago.
But that's about it for the good news.
here's two things I worry about with the Bears.
Caleb Williams has got to get more accurate.
Three times last year at Southern California,
he completed under 58% of his throws.
He only completed 50% of his throws in the preseason,
and he completed yesterday 48%.
He's got to get more accurate quick.
All right, like that, period.
And what concerns me, he doesn't have a McVeigh or a Shanahan
or a Sean Peyton or Annie Reed to smooth out the rough edges.
he just doesn't.
So Chicago averaged 2.8 yards of play yesterday.
That was worst in the league.
And Tennessee's defense is good.
It's not that good.
So listen, I get it.
All the young quarterback struggled.
I thought Bo Nix was better than everybody thinks.
But I get it.
And I also get that Gino Smith was good.
And Derek Carr was good.
And Sam Darnold was good.
And Baker-Mayfield was good.
And time on task matters a lot in this league.
And I picked Tennessee to win this game during the Blazing Five Friday.
I said this is going to be much more turbulent.
And I also pointed out Friday, I said, his accuracy is erratic.
It was in college.
It was in the preseason.
But the difference is, is when Mahomes was erratic, he had Reed.
And, by the way, Russell Wilson last year was Sean Peyton had his best year in two years.
And Bo Nix was accurate yesterday.
This is a defensive culture.
It's a defensive head coach.
Does he have a strong offensive coordinator to sandpaper the edges?
because the accuracy, which was, in fairness, all the people I talked to about Caleb,
that was the concern.
Leadership's good, athletic ability is good, size, power arm, all that stuff.
But I wonder.
Now, it's not like Will Levis bad where you don't even know if he can play in this league.
Like, I think Will Levis is too mechanical.
I don't think he's fluid enough.
I don't think it works.
Daniel Jones not talented enough.
Bryce Young just doesn't look strong and accurate enough.
I don't think it's that situation.
where you're watching and you're wondering,
man, that just doesn't work at all.
That may never work.
But yesterday, the Bears, they got too many offensive weapons
to have a 42-passer rating on third down.
That's bad.
And again, I said it was going to be turbulent,
and I picked the Titans to win this game.
But I didn't think the oxygen masks would have to drop,
and the stewardesses would be screaming in terror.
They barely landed the plane.
And they got kind of lucky to land the plane
because if Will Levis didn't make arguably the worst quarterback decision I've ever seen in my life,
they lose this game and are anemic offensively.
So, again, it's all these young guys struggle,
but I had said this months ago in the draft,
Jaden, Daniels has a defensive coach,
and Caleb Williams has a defensive coach,
and Michael Pennix has a defensive coach,
Bo Nix has an offensive coach,
and I thought Bo Nix yesterday had a bad pitch,
wasn't great. But I do
think it matters because all these
guys are hitting that ball in the rough.
How do you get it? Even Mahomes
early was amazing. But his mechanics
would go sideways. He would be reckless
and sloppy. Andy would get him
back in the fairway. And here
was Caleb Williams on his debut.
I sat down and enjoyed the moment.
Just watching all the guys celebrate,
understand that I need to be better, I will be better.
Whether it's a win or loss,
you know, you expect yourself
to play a certain way. You expect yourself to go
out there and perform a certain way.
That didn't happen today.
And so, you know, it's enough motivation for me.
You know, we're going to, you know, somebody else's home this week, too.
And so, you know, it's enough motivation for me to go out there, get better this week
and make sure that, you know, I perform differently next week.
Okay, now, it gets much tougher.
They go from Will Levis and at home to C.J. Stroud at Houston.
Sunday night.
that's a big primetime game.
This schedule now,
that gets interesting for the next
couple of weeks. So
again, we knew the flight
was going to be bumpy.
I said before, I worry
about the culture, not Caleb.
How do you sandpaper this
stuff? Because
you can't have a 42-passer rating on third down
with those weapons, at home on a perfect weather day.
Here comes the bad weather in six
weeks. Here come the great
defenses. Sunday night at Houston's
going to be a totally different environment.
In fact, I like the Texans big in that game.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know
there's a lot to break down.
Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Pinky has financial issues.
I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.
On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King,
recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows,
including the Real Housewives franchise,
the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about.

I understand the game.
As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash will get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball, like,
after you go through a training camp with that, I said,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.

Erica on Fox, as Raphael Devers
and the Red Sox take on rival Aaron Judge and the Yankees,
or the raised battle of Jose Ramirez and the Guardians.
It all begins Thursday at 6.30 Eastern on Fox.
Check for the game in your area.
Well, yesterday was Reclamation Day in the NFL for quarterbacks.
Derek Carr crushed it.
So did Sam Darnold.
Baker Mayfield, four touchdown passes.
Gino Smith scrambled for a touchdown and won.
It proves how valuable snaps experience time-on-task is at quarterbacks.
and it also proves how important the fit is.
That's the best I've ever seen Derek Carr play.
He's got a new offensive coordinator.
He looked fantastic.
Sam Darnold went 12 for 12 at one point.
That's as good as I've ever seen Sam Darnold play.
He's got a great offensive coach, left tackle and wide receiver.
Baker Mayfield was scrambling and dealing and playmaking.
And I've said this before.
I just don't think it's healthy to root against people.
I was tough on Baker.
I think I was right.
but I think he's a good guy. He's got a great marriage, a great wife.
I'm genuinely happy for people in life who love something, are crazy, passionate about something,
and they eventually get the right fit.
Derek Carr, that's as good as he can play.
He's got a new offensive coordinator.
And Baker Mayfield, finally, the expectations have come down.
He's playing with house money.
He's got $100 million net worth.
He's happy.
And Baker looks like he's playing happy.
He's confident Baker and supportive.
supported Sam Darnold.
And new O.C. Derek Carr, dudes can play.
So once you take the expectations off of these young quarterbacks
and give them better fits and better teams and better cultures,
I mean, Gino went from the messy Jets to a well-run franchise
with one of the best GMs in the league, the Seahawks, and John Snyder.
And so it's like, it's just good.
These guys care, Reclamation Day.
here's Baker Mayfield
after it with our
Laura Oakman
Just having fun
I mean this
Yes it's our job
But football is a game
And just finding a joy in it
I play my best when I'm having fun
And this is
This group allows me to do that
And everybody in the building
So I'm so thankful for them
And like I said
Keep building and keep going
You know I think
Quarter of even John Elway
Didn't win at the highest level
Until he got a Shanahan
This league is much more
situational on quarterback than anybody wants to admit.
It's much more fun to say, this superstar can carry a franchise.
Brady doesn't have all those trophies without Belichick because the great Brady didn't
develop for years and years and years and years.
And Derek Carr yesterday, now it was Carolina.
That's as loose.
That's as much as Derek Carr's ever thrown the ball down the field.
Sam Darnold 12 for 12.
Look at that throw.
I mean, Sam Darnold, it passed a rating over 100.
They're going to look like the MVP of the league.
So this stuff matters.
Fit, situations, matter, and four guys proved it this weekend.
So I'm going to push back on a lot of the narratives.
I actually thought that Bo Nix was okay.
It's at Seattle.
They have excellent corners.
It's one of the loudest places to play.
And Bo Nix, now the passer rating will tell you,
passer rating is like 47.
They asked him to throw 42 times.
He had a stinker of a pick, but I don't think it was as ugly as stat say.
None of these other rookies are having to throw it 42 times, run for their life.
Denver didn't have a great O line.
Seahawks had a pass rush.
One of the smartest young defensive coordinators, Bo Nix was accurate.
Bo Nix was mobile.
If Seattle doesn't get that first down on that great catch by Tyler Lockett on third down and
If they don't get that, Bo Nix gets the ball back with a chance to win.
I mean, this was one of the games we all, Jay Mack and I agreed with.
Like, this is a terrible spot for Bo Nix.
I thought the game planned by Sean was conservative.
It was underneath passes.
But that's what he should be throwing on the road against great corners.
Take what they give you.
Here was Sean Peyton after.
He seemed calm, poised.
I thought that part of it, you know, he was, I felt like he was very comfortable and ready.
Again, nobody plays great for four quarters outside of DAC yesterday.
You don't get a lot of that.
Mahomes has had bad Super Bowls for the first three quarters.
But considering contextualizing what he had to do in the place he had to do it
and how many passes he through, I know the passer rating will tell you he was awful.
I didn't think he was.
I think he's much more mobile than people think.
He's always been accurate.
I thought he was composed.
I didn't think he looked nervous.
Seattle's got elite corners.
They're one of five teams in the league with great corners.
There's not a lot of them.
And Mike McDonald is supposed to be...
I mean, here's the funny thing.
Seattle's got a better roster.
So does Seattle fans feel better today with the future with Gino
or Denver fans with Bo Nix?
Now, Seattle's got better players.
Seattle's got much better players, in my opinion,
than most people think I like both their backs,
I like their receivers, I like their tight end,
their offensive tackles are good,
but the O line is still a work in progress.
but I don't know.
I'm watching Bo Necks.
That's one of the games I really wanted to watch.
I don't care what the quarterback rating says.
For the situation he was in, it wasn't terrible.
Like, Jaden Daniels could move a little bit.
He looked uncomfortable in the pocket.
Caleb looked uncomfortable.
Bryce Young looked shot.
Will Levis not working.
Daniel Jones, I don't want to get into it.
I was like, 42 throws on the road,
gets those corners of pass rush.
Not terrible.
If Lockett doesn't make one of the catches of the week,
on that third and six, a one-hander, Denver's got the ball with a chance to win.
I don't know.
Feels pretty good for me.
Colin Wright, Colin Wrong, top of next hour, the Steelers won.
So one of our producers is a Bengals fan.
I didn't really watch that game.
That was just a corner game for me.
I'm not going to be able to stomach a lot of the Patriots offense.
There are games in week one that I just, I eliminate that one.
I just take the Cincinnati, New England one off the board.
I kind of felt like that Pittsburgh, Atlanta.
I'm not going to watch.
Pittsburgh's just only one way to win field goals, the quarterback situations of mess.
There were just some games.
But then I watch a game like Detroit and L.A., and I'm like, I don't care of the Rams lost.
When that team gets healthy, that team's going to be good.
So there are, you know, Kansas City, Baltimore, I buy that game.
Philadelphia, Green Bay, I buy what I see.
Detroit, L.A., I buy what I see.
Chicago, Tennessee, unfortunately, for both teams, I buy what I see.
was so ugly and I watched every snap and it was unwatchable,
but I wanted to go a mile deep on the Titans and the Bears
and a mile deep I was.
Hour two next.
