This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest,
SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care which I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey,
or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast,
The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,

Are we two days away from week one of college football?
The week zero thing is weird.
It's kind of like pre-boarding.
I don't know how you board a plane before you board a plane,
but it is kind of part of the lexicon.
We're welcoming pre-boarding now for flight 250 out of San Anna.
But isn't pre-boarding boarding, right?
Isn't week zero really week one?
whatever it is, real week one kicks off in two days, which means this is a real game week,
not a dress rehearsal for college football.
For the NFL, today is cut day, right?
Cut down day.
Rosters obviously have expanded.
Practice squads have expanded.
But today was supposed to be the day in which if Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't traded, he would be released.
We've had other players that you've known.
Josh Rosen got released today.
That's his sixth team, six team already for Josh.
Rose, that feels like a new league record for a number 10 pick in the NFL draft.
Anyway, the Rosen thing is interesting because he was with the Browns.
There were some people that thought Garapolo would end up with the Browns,
especially because the Browns won't have Deshawn Watson for the first 11 games.
But then the more you research it and you listen to so many of the talented reporters
out of Cleveland, you started to realize,
Cleveland wasn't really interesting.
Interested.
So then the story comes down yesterday afternoon.
I'm just, again, things, yeah, afternoon, right?
Yesterday afternoon.
I'm Doug Gottlie, by the way, filling in for Colin.
That Jimmy Garoppolo is staying with the San Francisco 49.
Staying with the San Francisco 49ers.
Now, he had to take less money.
It would have been $25 million off the top of the cap based upon his previous salary.
That's why he was going to get cut.
said, it's a $6.5 million one-year deal, which there are some incentives in there that could bump it up from seven figures into eight figures.
That we would assume is if Trey Lance either stinks or gets hurt.
And how he, the level to which he's allowed to stink is very much in question.
But if he gets hurt, obviously, now you have a great backup plan.
but it's very interesting to me and my show follows this show, 3 to 6 Eastern, 12-3 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio on the Iheart Radio app.
And it's interesting to me how I spent a bunch of time in my car the past 16 hours or so since the Garoppolo news broke.
I had to drive my son to football practice almost an hour away and back, sports radio the whole way.
driving around last night,
running into a couple errands,
and then driving around earlier today,
and I'm listening and I'm watching TV shows,
and we make,
and I get that,
now is the NFL pay the bills,
but the drama and the,
the way in which we like to perceive things
as being dramatic,
that by many people's estimation
is what makes sports and sports radio interesting.
I would love to make this a really interesting story.
That the Niners held Jimmy G's feet to the fire.
And Jimmy G. is just lurking, waiting, knowing Trey Lance isn't good enough.
And the Niners know Trey Lance might not be good enough.
So this is their back of a.
Or this one might hurt those debate shows in the morning.
Maybe it actually is what it is.
And you're like, that's the most cliche.
Sports statement ever.
Sure.
I got it.
What if?
And I'm not saying what if.
I'm saying it's very, very likely.
I can't say I'm 100% sure,
but it's very, very likely that you don't have to look and dig all that deep.
The Niners had an asset that they felt like,
based upon how much he made
and how he performed in the most important,
game of his career.
Like, let's not get a twist.
Everybody makes it out that, well, Jimmy G. always gets hurt.
He did. He also stunk in the second half of the Super Bowl.
They had the game won.
He played poorly.
He wasn't the only reason that they lost, but a Super Bowl winning quarterback
would have won that game.
He had Emmanuel Sanders open.
And again, this is not Doug Gottlieb telling you how quarterbacks are supposed to play.
This is Doug Gottlieb talking to actual.
NFL quarterbacks and football personnel, it'll tell you like that throw, which he overthrew
Emmanuel Sanders, it's supposed to be, if anything, underthroat.
That way, if he comes back to the ball, there's a PI, you get the ball at the one yard line,
you punch it in, you win the game.
There were other throws, other decisions, and if you watch Jimmy Garoppolo, who you might like,
Colin is super into, way more into than the rest of the NFL.
But Garapolo has that, that napalm button.
right, where he just completely eviscerates his own cause, like once a game,
and like that, that's a Jimmy G.
And at some point, the Niners Brass, which has built a championship caliber team,
does anybody else, anybody want to argue that the Niners,
outside of quarterback, feel like a championship caliber team, right?
Debo Samuel, a top, whatever position you want to call him,
he's in the top five of his craft.
Trent Williams, top five of his craft, right?
Nick Bosa might be the
I know this is sacrilege
but Nick Bosa might be the best
player in the NFL, best defensive player
in the NFL, and I do know that Aaron Donald exists.

but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode.
where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

I'm talking.
Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Nick Post was the MVP of the Super Bowl up until the fourth quarter of that Super Bowl.
He was incredible.
And we could go through Fred Warner and some of the other defensive players they have.
They have elite level talent.
So the San Francisco 49ers who do this for a living and live with and know Jimmy Garapolo
have dealt with the injuries, have dealt with some of the other little piddly little stuff,
understand the napalm button, right?
The one gigantic mistake turnover that you know he's going to make, you like set your watch to.
You're like, oh, there's the Jimmy G turnoff.
and how he performed in the biggest game of his life,
especially when it mattered the most in the third and fourth quarter.
And they decided like, look, we think there's better out there.
It's not really any different than when they had Alex Smith.
Granted, different regime, different coach, different gentleman's, I understand.
But Alex Smith got them the NFC championship game.
He wasn't the reason that they lost to the Saints.
They had two fumbles and special teams.
But the point was that their evaluation,
was Colin Kaepernick gave them a better chance
and Colin Kaepernick got them to a Super Bowl.
Well, I think that was what they're hoping for with Trey Lance.
But what if this is just very simple.
They had Garapolo.
They didn't think Garapolo was the greatest of all time.
They didn't feel like they wanted to resign him.
They made a move for a quarterback.
They groomed him for a year.
And then they held on to Garoppel hoping
that someone would have a Minnesota Viking sort of
Teddy Bradford
Teddy Bridgewater sort of injury
where the Philadelphia Eagles
were able to pawn off
Sam Bradford and get a first round pick for him.
That's what they were hoping.
And we go through this entire preseason.
The Browns need a starting quarterback
and he could have renegotiated his deal.
They needed for 11 games.
They weren't interested.
Look around the league and everyone else
at this point has talked themselves into
whatever quarter quarter of whatever
quarterback we have, whatever young quarterback we have, seeing how that plays out.
The only team that it makes a ton of sense for is the Seattle Seahawks.
And they already are in knowing the same division, but have consistently been really competitive
against the Niners.
And they play them in week two.
So the Niners give Garapolo the biggest contract for any backup quarterback in the NFL.
So they have an asset that they can still trade.
Now he's more tradable because he makes.
less money. It's only a one-year deal. They protect themselves if Tray Lance gets heard of
or Tray Lance is just awful. And they still have that asset that they can still move and still
get something back in return while protecting themselves against injury. And then if you ask yourself,
okay, well, you've told us all of the things we need to know about San Francisco, why would
Jimmy G sign a deal for $6.5 million? I think it's pretty obvious. What I'm
options did he have, you know?
The only hope you would have is, I guess, Seattle, right?
I guess Seattle.
He's not taking that deal unless he knows there is no better deal out there for him, you know?
Unless he knows there ain't anything better out there.
And if somebody goes down, I'm sure the Niners have said, look, dude, if all things are
good with Trey and somebody goes down and you can go somewhere and start,
And we can make a move.
We'll make that move.
But in the meantime, you don't have to leave.
You know the offense.
You've been a backup quarterback before.
Remember, Garapolo is not one of these guys that came into the league and was anointed and started day one.
He knows the job of a backup quarterback.
And yeah, he got to swallow his pride a little bit.
Okay.
We all do.
We all do.
Hell, Josh Rosen's had to swallow his pride five, six times now.
And I got it.
You're like, well, Garapolo has started in a Super Bowl.
and he played really well in the first half.
Go back and look.
Other quarterbacks have accomplished similar feats.
This is the league.
NFL, not for long.
Garapolo's not Aaron Rogers,
he's not Pat Mahomes.
He's not Lamar Jackson.
He's not seen as a top 10, top 15.
Obviously, and this is not me telling you.
It's the league.
He wouldn't take this deal if there was something better out there.
If somebody had said, hey, let him cut you.
you'll be our starter because that does the conversations do actually happen whether it's
tampering or not he would not take he would not take 19 million dollars less unless he knew that
was that was significantly more than anything that was out there for him so what if we just take
it for what it is the niners have an asset he has value
and he is more valuable to them if he's going to only take $6.5 million
because they can keep him or move him and still have him on the roster today.
And what if Garoppolo took it because that's the best deal he can get?
And oh yeah, by the way, if, if Tray Lance stinks or if Jimmy G or if Tray Lance gets hurt,
he's right there. He reassumes the quarterback position.
I mean, like, look, this this did in fact happen to Kurt Warner in Arizona.
Just remember, Kurt Warner was in Arizona as a backup.
And then Liner got hurt and he came in and Kurt Warner was better than Liner.
And then the next year, it was the same dance.
And Kurt Warner waited and when he got his opportunity, he led him to a street pole.
I don't think that happens with Garoppolo.
He's not the Hall of Famer of a Kurt Warner.
But the idea is, hey, man, just stay in the game.
It's a long life.
It's a long life.
Stay in the game.
Don't say nothing to nobody.
Just do your job.
Show up at work every day.
And if you're good enough and you're ready, you'll get an opportunity.
We can make it about a lot of things.
Well, the Niners don't trust Trey Lance.
Garapolo's making six and a half.
He's making backup money.
He doesn't even have a playbook.
They likely overpaid him to keep him away from
Seattle, to keep him relatively happy, to keep that asset that they know they can move if
somebody else's quarterback goes down.
And meantime, they protect themselves against some sort of traumatic injury to Trey Lance,
or God forbid, Tray Lance just stinks.
What if it is exactly what it is?

All right. We'll get to Ryan Music with the News upcoming in a moment. But let's welcome back in Bill Romanowski. He was cool enough to hang around. We had some technical issues, some gremlins. And I did hear part of your answer, but not all of your answer. So let me just get back to it. Obviously, you won Super Bowls in San Francisco. You know the deal.
I'm just wondering your take on Jimmy Garoppolo and what the Niners were.
able to do with his contract going back to yesterday?
Well, you have to realize he's a guy that took him to the Super Bowl.
He's got a great winning percentage.
When he's healthy and he's playing, you know, he wins.
And Kyle Shanahan clearly has had Trey Lance.
he knew what he did last year
he brought him in
as this is going to be the savior
to the organization
and I think
they are starting to wonder
if he is going to be the player
they thought he was going to be
and they need a safety blanket
you know they need
Jimmy G
to be there
guy just in case
Trey Lance isn't
what they thought he was going to be.
And this is me
speculating. I do not
know, but it's pretty
clear by
the maneuvers of
them first trying to get rid
of Jimmy G. Now
they sign them to a deal
that works, you know, under their
salary cap, and they
get them at a good price,
and he's going to be, hey, he's a guy that will be Tray Lance's backup,
but he clearly, they are in a situation where I think they're in this place
where they're not sure if Tray Lance is their guy for the future.
So it's pretty interesting the dynamics that are going on right now.
And if they messed up this Trey Lance deal, you know, all they gave up for him, it would be a lot of egg on their face.
The question becomes why, if you're Jimmy G., would you sign this deal?
Is the answer it had to be the best one out there for him?
I think, I do not think there was another opportunity out there that another team was willing to take him on.
So I think, you know, they must have came back to him and basically gave him a message that, hey, Jimmy, or to Jimmy's agent, we're not exactly sure what's going on with Trey.
You may have a chance to step back in as a starter.
and if that is the case,
then you're going to not make
$5 or $6 million
with a starting package for you.
You'll be back up.
Hey, not where you were,
but you will get close.
And, you know,
you know us.
We know you.
This is probably the best play.
It was probably the best situation for him.
Bill Romanovsky, joining us four-time Super Bowl champion
and, of course, a member of the San Francisco 49ers
and among other things, the Oakland Raiders.
I want to ask you, though, about the dynamic in the locker room.
Here's the guy who they had practicing on a side field.
Peter King was on the herd last week, said he didn't even have a playbook.
Now he's back in the quarterback room.
Like, what's that dynamic going to be like?
You know, you have to realize in sports.
that people and all the players know.
They know if Trey Lance is a leader,
can make everybody better, can make every throw,
can run the offense the way it's been run in the past under Jimmy G.
They know.
There's no secrets here.
So they know what Jimmy G. can do.
They respect Jimmy G.
They've seen him win.
They've seen him make every throw.
So it's a situation where, you know, they'll be fine because the only thing that matters is winning.
The 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch care about winning.
And that's all that matters.
And if Jimmy G. is the guy.
that gives them the best chance to win,
then there'll be no issues in the quarterback room.
There'll be no issues in the locker room
because he'll be plugged right in.
But I think Tray Lance is getting the first chance,
and if it doesn't work out,
they've got the guy who, like I said,
brought them to a Super Bowl once prior.
Bill Romanowski joining us in the herd.
I'm Doug Gottlie, filling in for Colin.
Let's get to the Raiders.
who last year had really an incredible season when you consider all of the issues off the football field,
not just having to fire John Gruden, but all of the other things circling around.
Now it appears like you have, I mean, it doesn't appear, you've got an upgraded wide receiver with Devante Adams.
They feel like they fixed some of their issues.
You bring in Josh McDaniels, who has done a magnificent job working with the Patriots and the offensive side of the ball.
And it gives him a second chance to kind of remake himself back in the AFC West last time didn't go well with the Broncos.
But even though they're more talented, with all of the change, what's the likelihood that they're as successful as they were last year, Romo?
Well, the big challenge is the AFC West will probably be, they'll probably be a Super Bowl contender or a Super Bowl win.
that comes out of the AFC West because it's stacked.
There is no weak link in the AFC West.
Josh McDaniels, I was just there this past weekend for an alumni weekend.
I spent probably an hour, hour and a half talking with Josh McDaniels.
I love that guy.
And I think he is going to be, I think he'll have.
have great success with the Raiders.
I think he'll deliver a Super Bowl.
Not sure if it will be this year, but there will be
Super Bowl championships coming to the Silver and Black under
Josh McDaniels.
That's how confident I am.
And when you speak to him, you're like, this
guy is going to be one of the best head coaches.
to ever coach in a national football league,
you just got to give him time.
Yeah, it's interesting because obviously it didn't go well first time around.
He's owned that.
He's even talked with the media about how he's changed
and he's done some reflection.
Obviously, he was going to be with Indy
and then pulled the rip court on that deal after agreeing to it.
How does his style fit with Derek Carr?
You know, offensively, he's a guy obviously worked mostly with Tom Brady when he was successful.
How does that fit with how Derek Carr plays?
Well, I think, number one, you got to start with you got to have the intellect to be able to run his offense.
So he's got a quarterback who is really bright.
Derek Carr is a bright guy.
He can, you know, if you can handle John Gruden, well, you can handle Josh McDaniel's offense.
So now it's just going to be is, can he lead?
And do you see, do you find in the first four games that Derek Carr has been missing
great coaching all along, and that's the only thing he needed to get, you know, the Raiders to,
I call it the promised land, and at the end of the day, it's about winning.
The winning is all that matters, and is he the guy that can get you to a Super Bowl?
and we're going to know early and it will happen fast and if they don't win early,
you will all of a sudden know that, hey, down the road,
they will have to make a change at quarterback.
Last thing, obviously Denver was a place which was home to you for so long,
and they've done the same thing, right?
Change coaches, but they've changed quarterbacks.
they bring in Russell Wilson.
How does that dynamic play out to you?
A guy who, like, look, for Denver last year, anyone who watched that team said,
feel like you're a quarterback away.
Now, they had to get rid of some pieces, some good defensive pieces to get him.
And you lost, your head coach was a defensive wizard.
Now you're bringing in an unproven but offensive mastermind to work with Russell Wilson.
How does that dynamic play out?
You know, Russell Wilson has proven he can win a Super Bowl.
So that to me, I think Denver will be right in the mix.
And like I said, I don't know what team is going to come out on top in the AFC West.
I think Denver has got a clear shot at it.
They're strong, they were strong everywhere, but quarterback.
And if you don't have a quarterback, you don't have a chance.
That's the reality in the National Football League.
This isn't back in the 70s or early 80s
where you could have an average quarterback,
but a phenomenal defense, and you could get it done.
That's not the case now.
You have to have that position.
Russell Wilson, proven winner, now new head coach,
you're going to see if that head coach quarterback can drive, you know, a potential Super Bowl in Denver this year.
I think it's an absolute chance that they can be there.
And, you know, Russell Wilson has proven it before.
Let's see if he can prove it again.
Romo, today's a tough day for a lot of people who play football, right?
Today's you got to cut guys down.
This has happened to you.
I mean, you're a great player, right?
your pro bowler, Super Bowl champion.
What's that like when, and I know, I remember with the Raiders,
I had a very close friend who was called the Grim Reaper, right?
When you get the call from the Grim Reaper and you come in,
what is that moment like when you've been a great football player
and somebody tells you, we don't want you anymore?
Yeah.
You know, for me, I was traded from San Francisco to Philadelphia,
and then I signed with Denver as a,
a free agent.
And then after six seasons in Denver,
Mike Shanahan called me into his office and said,
I might want you to be a happy backup.
And I walked out of his office,
and I called my agent,
and I said,
call the Broncos right now and tell them to release me.
And my next call was Dalai Davis.
And I knew I wanted to be a raider.
And I knew I wanted to get back at the Broncos for what had just transpired.
So I was never necessarily cut, but I was put in some scenarios where, you know, this was a team didn't want me anymore.
And, you know, you either take.
that information and cry about it or whine about it or you take it and let it give you the fuel
to make them realize they made a mistake. And that's what I always try to do. Make it the fuel
that make them, you know, realize they made a bad decision getting rid of me. And but for a lot of guys,
you're right. This is potentially the end of the road to their NFL future. And it's, you know, a really
tough one. You know, for me, after 16 years to leave the game of football, hey, this, that football was my
life. And to move on, I transitioned well. I had a great education from Boston College. I had a
lot of connections and, you know, had aspirations to do a lot of different things. And I started a
nutrition company, Nutrition 53. I was in a bunch of movies. So I was able to transition.
But for a lot of guys, football is it. And, you know, transitioning is really difficult. So you're right.
really tough day for a lot of young men out there.
Romo, we really appreciate you joining us, giving us your great insight.
Thanks so much for being our guest in the herd.
You're very welcome.
Take care.
All right, that's Bill Romanowski, a pro bowler, a four-time Super Bowl champion.
And that actually plays what he talked about when he got cut or he asked to be cut by the Broncos, right?
That's essentially, it ties two stories into one, right?
Because that's what happened with Jimmy G.
want you to be a happy backup, right?
Which means you have to take less money
and you got to put on the smiley face
and then you got to now for Jimmy Garoppolo
his entire life is getting Trey Lance ready
for each weekend and then being ready himself.
And then into this Baker Mayfield story,
there's the around the NFL podcast
where Cynthia Freeland
said that she was talking with Baker Mayfield
and Baker said, quote,
I want to F them up.
and like I don't know how I again I haven't listened to everybody else commenting on it but
most dudes most athletes this is exactly what they think I'm I can tell you like I don't hold
Notre Dame in any way responsible for why I had to leave Notre Dame not at all none of it is their
fault okay all on me but I will tell you that when I left one of the schools that I had a really
hard time turning down was Marquette
They were coached by a guy named Mike Dean.
Mike Dean is one of those crazy people,
but those lovable, incredible crazy people.
And his recruiting pitch was incredible.
He sent me a four-page letter.
I still have in my mom's house.
Four-page, like, love letter of why I need to play for him.
I would have loved to.
I love my visit there, everything about it.
This is before Marquette had Dwayne Wade and Tom Crean.
This is the previous regime.
They were very successful.
But my main, one of my, my two draws were Dino.
I wanted to play for him.
and two, they played Notre Dame every year.
And I wanted to F them up, right?
That's a very normal,
I almost, like unhealthy, healthy part of being a dude and a competitor.
You know?
Like, again, I had it worked out my mind, like, yeah, I screwed up,
but Notre Dame should have figured out a way to fight for me to, like,
keep me like, dude, we can't.
That's not happening.
But it doesn't matter.
You know, it's just like Baker Mayfield.
Like, dude, he lost a lot.
locker room. He played poorly. He was hurt. It just, it wasn't working anymore. It wasn't.
And so they trade you to a place where you get a great opportunity. Like, look, I mean, obviously
Sam Darno probably thinks the same thing if he gets a shot to play against Carolina at some point. Like,
dude, we were 3 and O. Christian McCaffrey gets hurt in our season. Then I get hurt because I got
nobody to throw to. But I mean, if anyone has some issue with Baker Mayfield saying I want to F them up,
then sports are not for you.
That's it.
Or really be a competitor.
And it's really hard for a competitor to deal with a non-competitor.
Not every person is a competitive person.
I do.
There's something in terms of learning empathy.
You got to understand.
Like we're not all wired the same.
But if I have somebody running my football team, I want them to be competitive.
I want that.
That's the visceral response that you want.
Oh, we play the Browns the first week?
Oh, we, I almost feel like Baker Mayfield, when asked about it, should do the Montgomery Burns.
Oh, we play the Browns?
Excellent.
Excellent.
Not sure who his Smithers would be, but, right?
Excellent.
We play the Browns.
You know, you would, wait, you would rather trade me than a guy who has.
has all of those civil cases off the field,
and he's been torn his ACL twice.
Like, I took you to the playoffs from zero wins.
Like, really?
You know, there's a lot of things you can dislike about Baker Mayfield.
That ain't one of them.
Just not one of them.
Just not one of them.
Doug Gautlybin for Colin is the hurt.
You know what?
We have time for rhyme music in the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line.
Hello, Ryan.
Hello, Doug.
You know, nothing like a morning where you can work through the technical issues on the air.
That's the best part of it all.
All right, we will hit on a college football story here.
Our first taste of college football over the weekend, it's good to have it back,
but we look ahead to this weekend, which is the main course to kick off the college football season.
The key matchup, number two, Ohio State, hosting number five, Notre Dame.
Wow, first week of the season.
Yeah, that's a good one.
That's a good one.
And as it currently stands, Ohio State is the 17th,
and a half point favorite over Notre Dame. Yikes. But Notre Dame head coach, Marcus Freeman,
when asked about it, said this, quote, I'm going to write that down. You said 17 and a half
points, right? Well, we'll use that in a team meeting today. It's good to know. He didn't know.
Yeah, right? He didn't know. I think he did. That was a great thing about Mike. My coach in
college, late grade Eddie Sutton. The betting line would never help you. Vegas thinks you're 17.5
points better than Notre Dame. You're not any good. They don't come to practice. And then if you
an underdog, like, even Vegas knows you're not any good. You're a 17-a-law. They don't think
you're good. You guys walk around here like you know what doesn't stink. This is a gigantic
game for Marcus Freeman. I know the players love him. I know he was a tremendous, I mean, one, he played
Ohio State. Like, that's kind of a cool hook for him. And he was very good in the defensive
side of the ball.
But they gagged away a lead and ran
out of gas against Oklahoma State in the bowl game. His first
game is head coach. Now you take on
the Ohio State University. You don't have
to win the game, but you can't get
beat by more than 17 and a half points. Yeah.
You'd like to be able to keep that one a little
bit more competitive in your big debut
taking over for Brian Kelly.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by. The
Heard Line News. I do have a college
football thought I will share with you.
There's sometimes one play can
actually get you fired. And I
think that might have happened this past weekend.
No one got fired, but one
play, I believe, will be, we'll circle back to and go, that was the
play that got this, this coach fired. Coming up next,
there's a lot of interesting ways to renegotiate your contract.
What if a former MVP is renegotiating
through Twitter with
non-blue check marks? That's next.
the hurt. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and
friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week,
my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the
athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
