Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:06 For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:01:22 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
Starting point is 00:01:41 You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes,
Starting point is 00:02:06 follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Hurd. for listening to Fox Sports Radio. With my man, Jason McIntyre, also known as J-Mack,
Starting point is 00:02:43 and we are in for Colin Cowherd. Obviously, he is off. We hope he has a wonderful weekend. As do, we hope for you. But for now, we're going to bring you into that weekend with a great three hours. So keep it locked right here on Fox Sports Radio and the I-Hart Radio app. Let me welcome in, my man, Jason McIntyre. Hey, Mac, what up, brother?
Starting point is 00:03:04 I'm great, Chris. I am great, very excited to be hosting with you. It's been a few years since we did this. I think we did it from the FS1 Studios pre-COVID, and it was an NBA-ish show in July. This one will be a little NBA, a little NFL. And, of course, as usual, Chris Broussard and I will agree on everything because we are in lockstep in life and in sports as well.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I don't know how that sounds to me. I got to let me think about that before I. I let you lock me in to being in lockstep with you on everything. But, no, you my man, we're going to have a lot of fun. We got Eiff from Salam joining us in about 20 minutes. He is always great. No, not just NFL. Don't be fooled that he was, you know, a former NFL player.
Starting point is 00:03:50 He also knows his hoops. So we'll talk about him, everything with him. But J. Mack, let us start off with the NBA, as you mentioned. And we saw yesterday, DeAndre Aiton, one of the top centers in the league. I was saying earlier on first things first, that he almost made my third team all-N-B-A as a center. Because I went with Rudy Gobert,
Starting point is 00:04:17 but I thought long and hard about putting my man DeAndre Aiton in there, 17 points, 10 rebounds a game. You can mark that in to the box score. But Indiana made him a max offer sheet, four years, 133 million. And after all of the back-and-fours, all of the cold shouldering and everything from his team to Phoenix Suns. At the end of the day, they went ahead and matched the offer.
Starting point is 00:04:42 So DeAndre Aten will be back with the Suns. Can't be traded until January 15th. And can veto any trade anywhere for a year. So basically, good for the Suns, but you know what, Jay Mack? The real story about this, it essentially takes Phoenix out of the Kevin Durant sweepstakes. Because they were one of the teams on his wish list. The sons aren't willing to give up Devin Booker. And so even if it were a three or four team deal,
Starting point is 00:05:14 if they're not partying with DeAndre Aiton or Devin Booker, it's simply not happening. And so now, Miami, second team on his wish list, they don't seem to have the pieces to get it done. I've said all along that I feel like he should return to Brooklyn. I feel like Brooklyn should be like, you know, we looked KD, we didn't find a great offer. So we'll see you in September at training camp. But it seems to be down to Brooklyn staying there.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Or there is a little momentum. I don't even want to say growing momentum. But there's a little bit of talk about KD returning to the Warriors. Now, I've heard that. I've heard rumblings. Not sure I believe them. but I have started to hear in a few different places that KD would like to go back to the warrior. So here's what I want to ask you, Jay Mack.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Do you think it's a bad idea for Kevin Durant to go back to Golden State? I think bad is putting it lightly, Chris. This is a terrible idea. First of all, I don't think the Warriors would mortgage the farm, giving up, say, Jordan Poole, Wiggins, Coominga, Wise, and Moody, which is kind of what the Nets want. But for Durant's... Well, remember, they can't give up Wiggins.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Yeah, they would have to move Ben Simmons. And he's got to be untradable right now because nobody knows... I mean, nobody knows where his head is at. But let's say just philosophically, if it can work, because maybe you can work it out with a three-team deal or something like that, just philosophically, do you like the notion from KD's standpoint of him going back to Goldstein? It's terrible for Kevin Durant.
Starting point is 00:06:58 This is an... This would be an unmitigated deal. disaster. Chris, you've heard the phrase you can't go home again, right? Because when you go home, it's never the same. And I know a lot of, well, it was a little different for LeBron because he won the championship. He had not won before. Kevin Durant went to Golden State, won two titles, was the NBA finals MVP twice. They were the greatest team in NBA history in 2017. Okay, they went 16 and one in the playoffs. Just they level, they vaporized the entire league, Chris. Kevin Durant was the best player in the league, but we've got to remember he was 28 years old.
Starting point is 00:07:35 And in 2017, or 2018, when they wanted it again, he was 29. He was in his prime. KD turns 34 in September, Chris. This is a guy coming off in Achilles injury. He's still a very, very good player. That seems to be, you seem to be building a case for him to return. Absolutely not, Chris. Because if he's not as good as you seem to be saying and he can't carry his own team, why not go get some chips?
Starting point is 00:07:57 This is the phrase you can't go home again. and I know some people are like, well, his home is not Golden State. And then the counter to that is, well, it certainly is an OKC. They hate him in OKC. He has been booed in OKC for five years. He's not going back here. They burned his jerseys, right? So this is, and to get philosophical on you, like, this is kind of a man with no home.
Starting point is 00:08:14 And Kevin Durant is a bit of a wanderer. He is the kind of guy who is searching for something. You know, going back to his high school days, Kevin Durant, three different high schools. He went to three different high schools, Chris, like bouncing around. And then he's a northern Virginia DMV kind of guy. I'm from that area as well. Look at you with the psycho analysis. Well, again, Chris, out of the blue, he goes to Texas.
Starting point is 00:08:36 You know, and he was very good there. I mean, maybe he's trying a new thing. Let me get out of the area. Go to Texas. And then he comes to the NBA, OKC. Then he leads for Golden State. I advocated that move. Then he goes to Brooklyn.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Now he wants out again. Like, what is he searching for? And Chris, I just say there's a better chance that things go awry for KD on his return to Golden State because they're not going to be as good. They just aren't. He's very good, but everybody's older. If he went there, they would be the definitive favorites. I mean, I think they're already up there with the Clippers in the West.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Right, they're up there and they're, let's even call them the favorite. But it's close, right? Clippers. Listen, the West is loaded. Denver Nuggets are going to be very good. With KD. With KD. They don't become the definitive favorite?
Starting point is 00:09:22 What does being the favorite mean? That doesn't mean anything. They would have to win. I think there's so much pressure. There'll be so much. When the Ray returns to Golden State, they are the best team in the NBA. That's what it means. Okay, on paper, yes.
Starting point is 00:09:35 What is that worth? Okay, let's look in the locker room. What happened at the end? KD. kind of said, I'm out of here. First of all, he's cool with Draymond. Of course he's cool with it. Yes, but guess what?
Starting point is 00:09:45 It's cool to be friends on social media and doing podcasts, and when you see them in the club. It's another thing to be part of an 82-game season and a 20-game playoff run and be in the locker room with them all the time. We remember it got ugly with Draymond Green. and Kevin Durant. It ain't ugly now. Draymond's on his podcast,
Starting point is 00:10:02 dropping all this revisionist history. Hey, we loved him in the organization. It was you guys out there, the media that didn't appreciate him. I'm not saying they didn't like because they recognized his greatness within the Warriors organization, but so did the media.
Starting point is 00:10:18 It was the media naming him the finals MVP, especially the second year, you could have justified giving it to Steph, even though KD was the best. It was the media, like you just said, saying he was the best player in the world. That's revisionist history. Oh, we couldn't have beat the Cavs in 17 and 18 without KD. I think that's revisionist.
Starting point is 00:10:41 I think they could have beaten them in 17. And so Draymond is doing this, J-Mack, to make way for if KD somehow decides he wants to return, it's all good. Steph will get to this later, but there are reports about him reaching out to his. KD. I mean, there was a report that all three of the stars, including Clay, had talked to KD. I'm just saying, look, I tend to agree with you that it's not a great idea for Kevin Durant. But for different reasons. I don't think he's washed as you.
Starting point is 00:11:17 I mean, I don't think you think he's washed. No, no, no. But you certainly paint the picture like, huh, now he's 34. He's coming off the injuries, Chris. He's as good as he used to be. No. Absolutely. He is. He is.
Starting point is 00:11:29 When is he ever? Why isn't he as good? Because he couldn't carry a team? When does he ever carried a team to a championship? In the 2017 playoffs, Kevin Durant averaged. Are you ready for this? 55% shooting, 44% from 3, 89% from the foul line. 28 points was the finals MVP.
Starting point is 00:11:46 He got outplayed head-to-head in the first round by Jason Tatum this year, period. He got outplayed by Jason Tatum at-to-head. Let me share with you why. And he did. But first of all, he was. it's easier to play high-level basketball when you are surrounded by stars. And that's what people don't understand
Starting point is 00:12:08 when they give all this. KD has so much pressure on him, you know, in the finals in 2017. Yes, he had pressure because everybody hated him. Not everybody, but, you know, people looked at him negatively because he went to Golden State of 73-win team that had just dropped him in the conference finals. That was the pressure.
Starting point is 00:12:29 But he had gotten over that. He got over that when he decided to go there. He said, I can handle it. And he played great all year, and he was great in the finals. But on the court, when you have the opponent double teaming a teammate, Steph Curry, when you have Clay Thompson, another guy they have to worry about, it's easier for you to do your thing. So KD was great.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I'm not taking anything from him. but let's not act like he had to carry a team by himself like he was asked to do in Brooklyn. Kyrie was great in game one, didn't do much in the last three. He was okay. Their offense was give it to Kevin, give it to Kyrie, and let's watch them go one-on-one. Maybe we'll set a pick other than that. Do your thing, guys. Whereas in Golden State, a lot of ball movement, a lot of player movement, more sophisticated, better scheming.
Starting point is 00:13:23 So that is why I, look, Kevin, if you want to bring up the injuries, that's fair. Chris, time out injuries. Don't tell me Kevin Durant is not as good as he was in 2017. He's absolutely not. He's played 80. I'm sorry, 90 games. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:13:38 He's played 90 games in three years. He has not the same player. And Chris, to your point, hold on, to your point, in 2017, the Warriors did have stars. Clay Thompson was a star. Dramey was a star. They are not. They were down two to one in the finals. Clay Thompson was being discussed as washed because he was playing poorly.
Starting point is 00:13:55 Playtime and average the same amount of points in the playoffs. He's not even close to the same player. Do not play that card. Yeah, but I think he will be when he comes back. Maybe if they get Kevin Durant. However, Draymond Green was essentially benched down the stretch in a pivotal game by Steve Kerr. It was a genius move. So these guys aren't the same warriors where you're going to have to double clay and focus on Steph.
Starting point is 00:14:17 It's a different story, man. Five years later, Chris. Five years removed from that incredible team in 2017. J-Mac, again, I agree with you. It's not the best idea in the world for KD, but I don't like your reasoning. This team that you seem to be poo-pooing. I'm not poop-pooing.
Starting point is 00:14:35 They just won the title. Dre's not what he used to be. Yeah, they just won the title without Kevin Durant. And you're going to tell me that adding Kevin Durant, they're not going to be as good. Again, they'll be good. They will be the definitive favorite. Hold on, let me ask quick.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Who is the second best person on the Warriors in the finals? This should be easy. Wiggins. Okay. And in any deal to make salaries match, Wiggins has to be moved. I don't know if a third team is involved. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:15:01 A third team could easily be involved. Indiana could absorb. They have a ton of cap room. Utah's about to get cap room because of Mitchell. Simmons would easily be moved. If you remove Wiggins, who was the second best player on the Warriors, he was incredible defensively against Tatum.
Starting point is 00:15:14 He came through offensively. Like, Kevin Durant is going to have to fill that role. And I know he's better than Andrew Wiggins. Well, he's not going to be a defender. Well, okay. Who's defending on this team? He'll be a good. He'll be a good.
Starting point is 00:15:24 He's not anymore. He's not great. This is not a knock on play. This is reality, man. We'll see, Jay Matt. He was coming off a major injury, and he's dropped into the most important games of the season. Can we give him a minute to get back together?
Starting point is 00:15:39 His dad was trying to kill me over text message. I get it again. Right. Let's see what he does. I'm not saying he'll ever be as good as he was as a defender, but can he be good? Yeah. I think he will be a good defender.
Starting point is 00:15:53 And if you've noticed over this run for the Warriors, these last six years, everybody, when they go to Golden State, they play better because their role is defined. The offensive system is player friendly if you want to hustle and move. And so I'm not certain, but I do think a young guy, like if you have Kevin Durant, I can say by to Jordan Pool as much as I like it. I'm not losing Jordan Pool at all. As much as I like Jordan Poole, I would have Steph, KD, and Clay as big time scores. And then I think a Jordan, I mean, a Cominga can step in as maybe that defensive play. Who are you giving away for Kevin Doreen? Give me this deal.
Starting point is 00:16:41 If you're keeping Cuminga and Wiggins, come on. What's going on here? If I have to give up Wiggins and Poole, then I can say, yeah, I'm keeping one of the young boys. Now, if I, if I, if I, I, I would love to do it without Wiggins. I'm with you on how great he was. Okay, time out. Chris, you're saying Wiggins and Poole. So they rejected a Sons deal for Aiton and Bridges and you think they're doing Wiggins and Poole? You got to give up way more than that.
Starting point is 00:17:06 They're going to want Wiggins, Wiseman, Coominga, pool. They're going to want all that. And the Wires should say, no way. Yes, Wiseman would be a part of it. Wig, if I had to give up Wiggins pool and Wiseman and maybe Moody, that's it. I'm not doing that. All right, but that's not the issue. The point is, is it right for KD?
Starting point is 00:17:24 No. All right, and here's my point. You're saying this. It's a terrible move for KD. I think you're making an argument why it would be good for him. No, it's a terrible move. Well, let me finish. All right, I listen to your three, four, five minutes soliloquy.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Can I say something? Go ahead. All right. You are saying KD's not as good as he used to be. The warriors aren't as good as they used to be. It wouldn't be laid out on a platter for him. You know, they wouldn't be like 17 and 18 where it's automatic. Those seem to be reasons where KD.
Starting point is 00:17:57 will go. I'm 34. I've only played 90 games my last three years. I can't carry a team. Let me go somewhere where we can all work together and it's not just me. Argument for Golden State. It's not laid out on a silver platter. It wouldn't be easy to win it.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Argument for returning to Golden State. My reasoning is this. J. Mack, if Kevin Durant goes back to Golden State, he'll forever be known as a Robin. He will. Because they have proven that they can win it, not once, but twice without him. Okay?
Starting point is 00:18:38 It is Steph's team. And so, look, KD, by his own admission, he can get mad, by his own admission, GQ magazine, he said when he first joined him, Warriors, he's not a leader. All right, he can go there and not have to be the leader. He can just hoop to use his word. All right, but it will always be known as Steph's team.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Now, here's the upside. If they win another championship, which I definitely think they win one more, maybe two. If they win multiple rings, Kevin Durant will also go down as part of the one of greatest duos in NBA history. You got Jordan Pippen, you got Shaq Kobe, you got Kareem Magic, you'll have Steph KD, winners of three, four rings together. And that is, you know, and it won't be the gap between Jordan Pippin. It'll be more like Shaq Kobe.
Starting point is 00:19:39 And KD may win more of those finals MVP's. So if he has kind of come to the self-revelation of, you know what, I don't want to lead a team. I just want to hoop. I'm fine going in there. It's Steph's team. You know, people going to criticize me. So what? I don't care. I just want to be happy. If he has come to that realization, then he could go back there. But he'd have to understand. I'm going to be recognized as an all-time great, but a number two. You can't. You can't be a Robin if you have two finals MVP and an NBA MVP, Chris. That just, that doesn't add. No, you can't. Sure, why not? Why not?
Starting point is 00:20:21 You were a finals MVP twice and the MVP of the league. You were an alpha. He was MVP of the league ages ago. Yeah. You were talking about 2017. You're talking about his career. Remember, this is a Kevin Doreen who went on Twitter this week and said, what did you do for your legacy today?
Starting point is 00:20:37 He never won as the lead leader of a team. That's what I mean. He was the best player, but he wasn't the leader of that team. How do you quantify leader? You either set the culture like a Tim Duncan did in San Antonio, like a Steph Curry does in Golden State. Hold on. You ask me a question. Let me answer. Or you are a vocal leader. You get everybody going. You solve the issues and challenges that the team is facing. They look to you for advice or as an example. Did they do any of that with Kevin Durant? Yeah, he played great.
Starting point is 00:21:14 But he wasn't setting any tone. He stepped into the tone. By that measure, whoever is drafted by that team is the leader, right? No, no, no. Who was the Miami Heat leader when LeBron went there with Chris Bosch? Initially, it was Duane. Okay, because Wade was drafted there. So you're setting the idea of what the leader is.
Starting point is 00:21:33 No, because Wade had already led them to a championship and it's part of your personality. LeBron was learning to lead. You, sometimes you're born with it. Sometimes you can improve at it. But it's not just about being drafted somewhere. All right. We got plenty more.
Starting point is 00:21:53 You can see it's going to be a fun three hours. Chris Brousard, Jason McIntyre in for Cowan Cowherd. Herline news is coming up after our man, Eiffram Salam. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. Starting point is 00:22:45 I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement
Starting point is 00:23:02 to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger.
Starting point is 00:23:30 So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont. Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
Starting point is 00:24:23 So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:24:40 to look back at it on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know
Starting point is 00:25:13 when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch life becomes about wins and losses Steve Burns Dustin Ross because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid because that's two different intentions bro absolutely and that that's two different levels of trust I want you to just really be a good person Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure,
Starting point is 00:25:38 and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app, search learn the hard way and listen now. All right, welcome back to the herd. Colin Kyle Hurd is off. You got Chris Broussar
Starting point is 00:25:51 and Jason McIntyre. And now we're going to be joined by former NFL offensive Lyman Fox Sports Radio weekend host our man, Ephraim Salon. What's up, Ephra?
Starting point is 00:26:01 What's happening, man? How are you doing? We are good. Quickly, we're going to get to the NFL with you, obviously, some pertinent questions there. But Jason McIntyre and I were just talking about whether or not it's a good idea for Kevin Durant, from his perspective, to go back to Golden State. What are your thoughts on that? In terms of, if we're talking about his legacy or something like that, no, it's not a good idea.
Starting point is 00:26:28 If he just wants to win more championships, then, of course, is a good idea. Why wouldn't you go to the odds on favor to run it back again? I mean if he's trying to stack championships, it's a great idea for him to go back to Golden State. Do you know you work well?
Starting point is 00:26:48 Oh, did we lose Ephraim? Dang, he was making a good point, too. Legacy of the top and the greatest players ever, yeah, that's not what you should be doing if you're Kevin Durant. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Mac, let's get back to some NFL with you. Yeah, Ephraim, I don't know, this Lamar Jackson stuff this week is very unsettling to me. You got some TV show out there putting out that Lamar is not a top 10 quarterback. Yeah, Dak Prescott cracks the top 10. I mean, what is going on here? And then you got former hitman Bernard Pollard taking some shots at Lamar Jackson. Receivers don't want to play there. Man, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I don't know, I don't know, Eiff. Maybe I'm the last Lamar Jackson defender on the planet, but the guy's got one MVP. He's taken to the Raven to the playoffs, I believe three. times already in his career. He's still ascending. What's the deal here, man? Yeah, I don't know all the negative press and all that's coming from. Lamar Jackson is an electrifying young quarterback with so much room to grow. Just think about it, winning your MVP in your second year and, you know, leading your team, like you said, to the playoffs and, you know, all of a sudden the narrative has changed. and, you know, the Ravens had a shot of making the playoffs last year before Lamar Jackson gets hurt.
Starting point is 00:28:08 We know he can throw the ball, and we know he's dynamic with the ball and his hand in the open field. So personally, I don't know where all the negative backlash is coming from in terms of his talent and what he brings to a team. If I'm a GM, I would love to have a Lamar Jackson on my team as a quarterback. Are you kidding me? But don't you think, look, and I'm a Lamar, fan too and I thought it was a travesty that he wasn't in the top 10 but he does have to improve
Starting point is 00:28:36 a lot at throwing the football don't you think? I think that's what all the criticism is at. I do but you got to also realize the type of offense they run. They've catered it so much to his ability to run and to move the pocket
Starting point is 00:28:52 that very rarely in some games in the past we have seen him stand in the pocket and throw the ball for you know 300 plus yards and multiple touchdowns. He has that ability. So do they need to tweak it? Tweak the offense?
Starting point is 00:29:06 But that's what I'm saying. If the offense doesn't dictate that he does that, then it's not going to ever happen. Of course they need to tweak it. If they want to keep him in the pocket and keep him out of harm's way, stop running read options. But that's taken away a huge, see, I think that's the chicken and the egg argument. are they doing the feeling is that they're basing the whole offense around his strengths
Starting point is 00:29:33 and exactly but in order to evolve as a quarterback right you bring a young player in he's used to doing this it's fine but as the evolution of a player's talent right if you want to continue to evolve that player's talent you have to push that player right you have to push that player and have them work on the things that others may seem as defensively. efficiencies. If they're not willing to do that with their offense and get comfortable with him running at a certain type of way, he'll never evolve into what you need him to be or what you want him to be or what he can be. So, Ephraim, if we're at the negotiating table and you're the Ravens and you say that to me and I'm Lamar, I come back and say, hey, guys, that's all good
Starting point is 00:30:17 and well, I got it. Sure, I'll improve as a passer. How about you get me a receiver? Because you look around the league, Ephem, and all the good quarterbacks, what did their front offices do when they were on the rookie deal. They went and got a superstar receiver. I mean, Stefan Diggs goes to Buffalo, Josh Allen becomes a star. O'Dell Beckham goes to play with Baker Mayfield. That didn't quite work out, but O'Dell put up some good numbers. They made the playoffs, and you look around the league. The young quarterbacks get star receivers. You look at the Baltimore depth chart right now. Rashad Bateman, second year receiver is their number one option. Now, if I'm Lamar Jackson, I'm like, guys, how can you not get me a guy? Kyler Marie gets
Starting point is 00:30:55 the Andre Hopkins. What do I get? got. You're absolutely right. And if you want them to stay in the pocket and pass the ball, you got to get them, you got to throw them the ball. You got to have somebody to throw the ball to, correct? Like you need multiple weapons to throw the ball to. I don't want to dig into this deeply yet because we will, but T. Y. Hilton turned down more money to stay in Indianapolis. All right. T. Y. Hilton's like 34. Juju Smith's Jux to turn down more money to stay in Pittsburgh. I'm just saying Kenny Gala, they chose Daniel Jones and the Giants. They overpaid.
Starting point is 00:31:29 So I'm just saying, all right, little revisionist history there, Jay Mack. But you're not, but you're not giving us like top tier talent, like young talent. The mid tier is rejecting them. But you can also draft. But you can also draft well at the receipt, at that position, correct? Hollywood Brown left them. He was homegrown. He left.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Hollywood, I think if I'm a receiver. I think he led the league in drops last year. I'm not certain, but he's up there. This is the question, Ephra, because I think you pose, you present a good question. Is it because Lamar can really only play this way that the Ravens do this? Or is it that they are styming him by playing that type of offense? Whatever the case, you notice,
Starting point is 00:32:15 a receiver that's looking to put up numbers, looking to get the bag, is he going to want to go to that type of offense? So it's like you said earlier, they probably have to tweak things. All right. Eiff, great stuff. We only got to one topic, but you drop knowledge
Starting point is 00:32:30 and brought energy like you always do. That's our man, Eiff from Salam. Have a great weekend, man. You two brothers. Y'all stay safe. Later, man. Yep. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Herdline news is next. Here's the herd. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Chris, Jason. Great to be with you guys. Great.
Starting point is 00:32:54 little debates so far. Let's see if we can keep the fun rolling here. We're actually going to start off with the NBA. It's been quite an offseason so far. You guys have already discussed the potential Kevin Durant movement. Another star everyone has their eyes on is Donovan Mitchell, enter the New York Knicks. Tony Jones of the Athletic is saying Utah was willing to let the Knicks take Mitchell in a trade for six first round draft picks, plus Quinton Grimes, Emmanuel Quickly, OB Topin and Miles McBride, but the Knicks declined that offer. Chris, is he asking price too high for this 25-year-old three-time All-Star? Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:33:35 And look, to Danny Angel's credit, they aren't asking for great players. I mean, all those guys are young. The fact that they don't want R.J. Barrett is on one hand stunning, but we understand it. They're not trying to be good next year. They are trying to be horrible and try to get Vic win by Yves. Hopefully I said it right. You didn't. Seven footer from, yeah, from France.
Starting point is 00:33:57 I might have chopped his name up. But Big Vic, we'll call him that way. That's who they are going after and obviously the draft pick so they have some flexibility in the future. So look, no one else can offer that many picks. All right. So the Knicks do have a little bit of leverage. So they just need to hold it out and they will get Donovan Mitchell, give up those players. And maybe four, maybe five.
Starting point is 00:34:22 first round picks. They have 11 over the next seven years. That'll still leave them well equipped in terms of drafts. So I think it gets done. But the Knicks are right to say, hold up. Six picks, that's ridiculous. Yeah, Danny Aange has no leverage, as Chris said. Donovan Mitchell wants out. They want a tank. I think five picks and no spare parts. Sorry, no disrespect to Quentin Grimes. I don't see what the fascination is there. But from a Knicks standpoint, hold up. Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell is basically like doing what Portland had with C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard. Now, not quite. It's like a light version, but they went to the
Starting point is 00:34:58 playoff six years in a row, Chris, as the starting back court, and I believe they made a run to the conference finals. So if Knicks fans should get excited about that, plus you still have Randall and Barrett, I think that's a top five team in the East, foe show. I love it for the Knicks. All right, for sure.
Starting point is 00:35:15 It's a good team. It's a good team. You're right. I'm excited if I'm the Knicks, and I can get Donovan Mitchell and keep Barry? Yeah. The Knicks. Russell Robinson in the middle to protect the rim. That's not bad. Chris, the Knicks have one playoff series win this century.
Starting point is 00:35:29 That's it. No, I know. That's a fact. One playoff series victory. That's it. They're starving. They're starving in the garden. All right.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Let's move on. Well, let's transition to a little golf. It's the comeback tour. Everyone's following. Tiger Woods has returned to golf after his near fatal car wreck back in February of 2021. Unfortunately, this time at the Open Championship, the comeback is short-lived. Woods will miss the cut. And quite frankly, guys, he's going to miss it by a mile.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Finishing nine over par with only about seven players right now in the entire field with a worst score. Yeah, tough. Jason, do you enjoy watching this version of Tiger or just to be able to see him play still? Or would you prefer him sort of hang it up and just be an ambassador of the game? I actually, I don't want to say this too harshly, but I enjoyed watching him fail because I bet against him to make the cut. Because I saw every. Everybody and their mom was laying the lumber on Tiger Woods minus 150 to make the cut. Guys, he's a year removed from like a near fatal car accident. Can we settle down and betting on Tiger Woods?
Starting point is 00:36:35 Don't bet with your heart, bet with your head. You got to fade Tiger going forward. Sorry, Ryan. My goodness, Jeff, can we take the money out of it? This guy's got no heart. I know. My goodness. Cold-blooded.
Starting point is 00:36:47 All right, look, none of us like seeing Tiger play like this. But we do like seeing Tiger play. All right. And that's the, that's the quandary for golf, right? I don't think anybody in golf, even look, guys that he's beating over the years, I'm not sure they even like seeing this version of Tiger Woods. All right, fans that have rooted against him, same thing. And no one wants to see Tiger like this.
Starting point is 00:37:11 But when Tigers in a tournament, at least when it starts, there is more excitement, there is more buzz, there is more coverage. And that's the problem that golf is facing right now. But look, he's 46 years old. Even if he hadn't had the horrific car accident, he's just much older. Let's face it, he wasn't playing great. He had the one win that we all celebrated a few years ago. But other than that, he wasn't even playing great before the accident.
Starting point is 00:37:41 So we want to hold on to can Tiger win another major? And I'd love it to happen. But unfortunately, I don't think it's. in the cards. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lye News. All right, at least one Lakers legend
Starting point is 00:38:01 says he'd be on board, J. Mack, with the LeBron for KD. Trade? My goodness. We'll get into that next. It's Chris Broussard and Jason McIntyre in for Colin, and this is the herd. Be sure to catch live editions

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Starting point is 00:40:32 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:40:52 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Then you're finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:41:11 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross
Starting point is 00:41:56 because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines,
Starting point is 00:42:09 is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the hard way
Starting point is 00:42:20 and listen now. All right, welcome back to the herd. I'm Chris Broussard, along with my man Jason Maggattar. We are in for Colin and we are live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. J. Mack, let's go back to the NBA. And interesting
Starting point is 00:42:36 column in Bleacher Report a few days ago. They talked about a Kevin Durant for LeBron James trade. Now we know Phoenix, Miami, even Golden State. All these trades are very complicated. KD. for LeBron would be simple. Straight up, salaries are very close and you could do it easily. And I talked to someone close to LeBron about it. LeBron will want no part of that whatsoever. He's happy in L.A. He wants to stay in L.A. He's not just desperately chasing rings. And so he doesn't want any
Starting point is 00:43:13 part of it. I don't think the Lakers would do it. I don't think they'd send LeBron somewhere where he wouldn't want to go just out of respect. But who knows? Robert Ory, a Laker great by virtue of hitting so many big shots. He was on his podcast, The Big Shot, and he had different ideas. Here he is, Robert Ory. I think there's only probably one dude in league right now, are two dudes.
Starting point is 00:43:40 I say two dudes that aren't on the trading block. that wouldn't be on a trade. That's Luca and Steph. Everybody else can be traded. I don't care who you are. Do you think the Lakers would move on from LeBron? Hell yeah. Really?
Starting point is 00:43:52 Yeah. Because you don't think about it. I think it's kind of rooted now, you know. Yeah, but if someone say, you know what, I'm going to give you, let's say I give you KD. I was going to say it's going to have to be a Durant. Yeah. Yeah. If you Rob Polican, someone says, okay, I give you KD for LeBron, you have to do that trade.
Starting point is 00:44:10 because KD got by 10 years left. LeBron got by 3. Okay. First of all, and I love Big Shot. Couple little factual errors. I'm sure they were factual errors, mental typos, if you will. The fact that he didn't include Janus
Starting point is 00:44:27 in the untradable group, that's a mistake. I'm sure he would include Yonis. He just overlooked Yonis. And then to say Kevin Durant's got 10 years left, who do you think is, Tom Brady? All right? It'll be 34 in September.
Starting point is 00:44:42 So that may take a little bit of steam and credibility away from what Big Shot said. But your thoughts on that, J-Mack? Well, first of all, this is an absolute stunner. I did not read this column or hear the podcast. And it's not a report. This is the first I've heard of this. It's not a report. And I will say, regarding-
Starting point is 00:44:59 It's not a report, J-Mack. It's just an opinion. Regarding Robert Ory, he came on my podcast straightfire about three weeks before Darwin-Ham was hired and said, I'm telling you, Darvinham's the guy for the Lakers. And I was like, okay, sure. Everybody else was saying all these other names. He nailed it. Now, I don't know if he has inside info. I know he's worked at the network out here that does the Lakers. He does some studio stuff. Big Shot Bob is connected. That being said, Chris, I was just digging into this during the commercial break. I can't believe
Starting point is 00:45:26 I'm saying this, but I think the Lakers would have to consider it. Now, LeBron would hate them forever and you'd never want to be the team that trades away LeBron James, the greatest player in NBA basketball history. That being said, he's 38 in December. KD. 34. KD.'s younger. And more importantly, Kevin Durant is locked in for four more years. LeBron, we know, is going to go wherever he wants to in two years to play with his son, a la C.m. Griffey Jr. So if you want security and you're the Lakers and you know, hey, we got KD for four years? KD. and Anthony Davis? Hell yeah. I mean, listen, I love LeBron. I love Kevin Durant. I can't believe I'm saying this. Chris, think you've got to strongly consider it if you are the Los Angeles Lakers.
Starting point is 00:46:11 I'm just stopping short of saying you got to do the deal because it's LeBron Friggin' James. It's LeBron James. You don't just give away LeBron James. Well, you're not giving him away. That's the thing. You're getting Kevin Durant. You're getting Kevin Freak and Durant.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Now, obviously there's one more potential stumbling block. What's that? Russell Westbrook. Oh. I mean, it would only be four years. but would KD sign off on it? Because I'm going to be honest with you. Westbrook obviously has his issues.
Starting point is 00:46:45 But if there's a player that knows how to play off of him, it is Kevin Durant. And that was J-Mack. They didn't win the championship. But that was a very, very, very good team when they were together. And I know neither of them are as young as they used to be, of course. but the question is, would Katie sign off on that even for a year? But if you're the Lakers and you really want to do this deal,
Starting point is 00:47:12 and again, I don't think it happens. I think the Lakers, I just don't think they do that to LeBron. I also think even though they don't look like they're in position to win next year, they want to have him break Kareem's record in a Lakers jersey. But to Robert Ory's point, LeBron does not have a no-trade clause. And so that's where it becomes, I don't know, is that something they think about? Let me say this. As much as LeBron doesn't want to go, and I get it, I understand it,
Starting point is 00:47:46 he would have a better chance of winning another championship in Brooklyn. J-Mack. Brooklyn would be nice. The roster is built around the type of roster that LeBron James needs. You got shooters, Seth Curry, Joe Harris, Kyrie Irving. Ben Simmons? Ben Simmons can go down to the dunker spot. That's all I need from him. I don't need him to be out on the three point line. Okay, hold on. Timeout. Let's back up for it.
Starting point is 00:48:21 And then, Kyrie, Kyrie, let me just say, Kyrie, obviously is a wild card no matter who he's playing with. But I do think LeBron is built to get the best out of Kyrie. We've seen it. The only time Kyrie's really won, it's not guaranteed, because you never know with Kyrie. But the only time Kyrie has won at a big level was with LeBron. And here's the other thing, J. Mack, Kyrie is smart enough to know. Oh, please. No, he's smart enough to know.
Starting point is 00:48:49 And I've been told this by somebody that's talked to him, that he has got to be on his best behavior next year. If he wants to resurrect his image and get the bag, or at least have a shot at getting the back. It's not guaranteed. If he needs to have a shot at getting the bag next summer, then he has to not only play well, which we know he will when he plays,
Starting point is 00:49:11 but he has to show up. He has to not take hiatuses. He has to be on time. He has to have a good attitude. He has to be a good teammate. I think he can do that with LeBron James as the leader. And Chris, you seemingly have forgotten that in 2017 or 2018, whatever it was, Ty Lou was coaching the Cavs,
Starting point is 00:49:30 and he was telling Kyrie what to do. And Kyrie's like, it's LeBron's team, and he throws the ball at him and walks out of practice. But he's had a change of heart. Oh, really? Has he had a change of heart? He only has been as a knucklehead in Boston, and he was a knucklehead in Brooklyn, and he treated Steve Nash like garbage, and now he wants to go to the Lakers. No, none of those places.
Starting point is 00:49:48 He's going to grow up. A tiger doesn't change his stripes. This is who he is. Kyrie Irving is a crazy person who doesn't want to work well with anybody. He's the kid who in third grade gets the does not play well with others on his report card. That's who Kyrie Irving is. If he didn't play well with others, he wouldn't have a championship. All right, number one.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Number two, he's clearly had a change of heart because why is he even considering playing with LeBron again? And again, I understand he's still a wild card even with LeBron. I'm just saying you can't sit here and tell me definitively with all of the reasons he has to behave that he absolutely would not. Too many questions, Marks. Ben Simmons, Kyrie Irving, that's way too much. LeBron has a better chance at a ring. What's the question mark with Ben Simmons? His head?
Starting point is 00:50:34 I don't know. He has no chance at a ring in L.A. this year. Who? He has no chance in a ring in L.A. this year. LeBron? Why? Because they won it two years ago? And they can't do it again?
Starting point is 00:50:45 Oh, really? Was Russell Westbrook on the team? I just read a report that San Antonio can be the facilitator in taking Russell Westbrook's contract. Get back to me. Right now, they have no chance. No chance? No chance. Rob and Ryan, clip that off and put it up.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Chris Broussard said the Lakers have no chance. No chance. No chance. That is nonsense. Oh my God. No chance for LeBron. LeBron's going to be 38 years old in December, my man. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:51:11 He was at an all-NBA level this season. He got to carry him by himself? He was an all-N-Bayer this season. Stop it. Stop. There's a lot of all-N-B-A players. Not Donovan Mitchell. Oh!
Starting point is 00:51:22 I went there. That's all you got? Never been all-N-A in his career. Aren't you a Knicks fan? I am a Knicks fan. I like Mitchell. And you ripping down. of him.
Starting point is 00:51:30 Hey, guys, clip that. Just the fact, baby. We got two hours left of fire here on the herd, Chris and J. Mack.
