Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to SportsSlic on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:34 And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife-Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you're. know is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:02:07 podcasts. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless. And at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast for no nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players, and the moments set to find Roland Garris.
Starting point is 00:02:25 Jen, she's an outsider to win the French for me. and she likes Clay. Listen, Leonard Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Hey, thanks for listening to the Covino Enrich podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 5 to 7 Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. Find your local station for Cavino-Ritch at Fox SportsRadio.com. or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching FSR. Let's go. Let's bring it on a Monday. Let's bring it every day. How about that?
Starting point is 00:03:11 You're supposed to be bringing it all the time. That's what I heard. Podcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio. Maybe you can stream all of our Fox Sports Radio shows live 24-7. And the new and improved I-Heart Radio app. If you're listening on the app, what's up? It's Kavino and Rich. Search Fox Sports Radio on the app.
Starting point is 00:03:29 stream us live and the newest feature on the app, Rich, you could preset it, just like you do on the radio. Preset it, don't forget it. We're not Ron Popil. We're Covino and Rich. What are he used to pimpe back in the college days? He would be watching late night. Set it and forget?
Starting point is 00:03:46 Rotissory chicken. Ronco, bro. Steve Covino, Rich Davis, we be rocking out. Let's go. Can I just start off by saying, Rich? I hope you had a Thunder. Yankees sort of weekend. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I was a three-game series, relax. Hope you had a Cody Bellinger, hit streak sort of weekend. And can I just thank Juan Soto for picking your Mets? You think you're better off with Adam? Exactly. If we had Juan Soto,
Starting point is 00:04:14 we wouldn't be as well-rounded, we, because I'm on the team mentally, we wouldn't have Cody Bellinger, we wouldn't have Max Fried, we wouldn't have Paul Goldschmidt, we wouldn't have Devin Williams. That's what rounds out a team. You could have that pouty-face Juan Soso
Starting point is 00:04:28 any day, of the week. We'll talk about his lack of enthusiasm on today's show. It's too much overreaction, but we will, like you said, get to Soto. So-so. Could you do the Brock? I'm already thinking about Brock Prattie. We'll put him on standby. Can you do the Tom Brady diet?
Starting point is 00:04:47 What is the Tom Brady diet? You'll find out. Can't do it. Can't do it. Would you want to do it? Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, bring an excitement to the WMBA. We'll get to that. What's a The a is You said the Juan Soto story's
Starting point is 00:05:03 blown out of proportion Caitlin Clark Angel Reesting is blown out of proportion Is it great for basketball Was it a big story? Absolutely Was it just a regular foul On Caitlin Clark's part?
Starting point is 00:05:13 Absolutely just a regular foul Where was all the drama? How does this become racially charged? I don't mean from the fans I just mean from anyone's point of view I hate when that happens It's just great competitive basketball
Starting point is 00:05:26 now spicy i also if we have time i want to get to some of the things that our kids seem to get to do nowadays that seemed like a dream when we were kids my kids experienced something yesterday that when i when i was a kid it seemed like no way you could do that and here are my kids doing it in 2025 all that but we got to start with brock purdy only because we fill in for dan patrick on Friday. Sure did. Get home. I don't know about you. I take one of those like you know when you take a nap and you're worse off? Like you wake up and you're grogier than you were
Starting point is 00:06:05 had you didn't even try to take a nap? Especially if you take a longer nap. Yeah, you wake up. Where am I? What's the fire? Right. You got to take that's why I see power nap. What's going on here? You got like take a 20 minute nap, right Spody? I once went to sleep and I woke up gronky. Oh, let me tell you, I... Not groggy. Not groggy. Yeah, gronky. Shaking your shoulders like, hey.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Brock Purdy, I see my phone has like 80 messages. And I'm like, oh, no, who died? You know, you have that thought? Like, what happened? Somebody died. And no, quite the opposite. Brock Purdy signs a deal of all deals with the 49ers. And I want to thank Dan Byer, who was covering for us, covered the story perfectly.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And Dan was kind enough to call me to get my 49er perspective. Yeah. Well, we figured it was only right. It's like what luck that you would be on. the air in the morning. Not when the news actually broke. And it wasn't like 645 Eastern 345 Pacific. It was 503 Eastern 203.
Starting point is 00:07:06 So right at the start of the show. So you would have had all two hours to talk Brock Purdy. It was a tailor made for Rich, but we filled in for Dan so we missed it. Maybe it's good. We weren't here. Yeah, maybe not because you would have heard Rich just screaming about it for two hours. Bro, Bertie, Bradford. But DB, real solid move to call up Rich or get Rich on the horn.
Starting point is 00:07:25 to give his two sense. But what was your first thoughts, Rich, when you heard the big announcement? You know, initially, I didn't have like a love or hatred of the deal, but the more I'm looking at it and the more, you know, hearing Dan and Moncee talk about it on Friday. Seems really fair.
Starting point is 00:07:40 That's my first instinct. And so far all parties. You nail that. Sometimes in something so fair, the story's sort of like, oh, okay. Yeah, but that's nice, right? It's like, yeah, that makes sense. I almost feel like they,
Starting point is 00:07:55 got it right where for us, you know, when we do a radio show, a podcast, we're having fun, it would be more entertaining to be like, man, he took the 49ers for all their worth, or man, I can't believe the Niners stifed him. Like, the storyline to me seems like, all right, now he's what, the seventh or eighth most highest paid quarterback, which if the 49ers think he's the guy to win, that seems about where he should be, top 10, but not at the top. How did he get a no trade clause? maybe that's how he got a more fair deal out of it. Maybe he's like, look, I'm not going to try to haggle with you over jump change,
Starting point is 00:08:32 but throw that clause in there and we got a deal. I mean, there's guys above him on the pay grade scale that I don't think are that much better than him. I think he's sort of where he fits, I guess you'd say. I think your point, and it's something that Monty and I talked about on Friday, of the belief of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, that there may be. 31 other teams that wouldn't want to pay him $53 million a year, but the 49ers were definitely were willing to do so. And I also just never thought that he was going to get a Sam Darnold $35, $40 million a year contract. And so when people were saying, oh, they spent too much,
Starting point is 00:09:13 that wasn't the question. It's, do you want to spend $50 million and have them, or you want to let go and go in a different direction? Because there was no way he was going to take anything less than what he got. And if you believe in Brock Purdy, I really do feel like the guys around him, as far as pay goes. Let me read some of the names. Do you believe in Brock Purdy?
Starting point is 00:09:34 Do you believe in Purdy? And I hope you do. Now listen, he's no Josh Allen. He's no Joe Burrow. And those guys only make it a couple mill more a year. Dak Prescott. I'm not a, you know me. I don't think Dak's,
Starting point is 00:09:52 should be the highest paid. Yeah, but that's all the flex of the NFL. You know, sometimes I believe that players go to places they wouldn't normally want to go just because they want to flex that they're the highest paid. Like your boy, Wonsoto. Oh, geez. We're not talking about Wonsato.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I know, I'm just saying. I don't think Wonsoto cared to be the highest paid, by the way. Yeah, all right. Seems real happy with the Mets. It's all about the money. You're crazy if you think it was about the Mets. Now, guys that are making around the same money, is Brock Purdy.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Are guys that I don't think are much better than him or better than him at all. So I feel like if you look at, like Danny G., if I say... It's also fit, though. That's why it makes sense. It's a good fit for both. Jared Goff, like, those are guys that you would put in the same conversation
Starting point is 00:10:36 and same breath as Purdy. Really? You don't think? Talent-wise, I don't know. I would take them over two any day of the week. And Jared Goff, I think they're in the same conversation. I don't look at Jared Goff and say,
Starting point is 00:10:51 You know what? The Rams got rid of Jared Gough to win a Super Bowl. Yeah, but then he's gone on to have success with the Lions when everybody thought he was a throwaway in the trade. Same level success Brock Purdy's had with the Niners. You got to strip away who's around him and what kind of play caller he has or what kind of like offensive scheme he has. I think they're very comparable because the Lions have a lot of weapons. The Niners have a lot of weapons. They both have had great play callers. So I think that's about on par.
Starting point is 00:11:17 And when the 49ers were decimated, Brock Prady played, okay. When Matthew, I'm sorry, when Jared Goff played on teams that didn't have a lot of weapons, it was okay. Like, I think it's comparable. I think they're awfully close to the highest paid guys. But then again, all the all the quarterbacks, these guys are all 50 million dollar men now. I mean, last year on our show, you said you thought he was around a 40, 45 million dollar quarterback. And you know what? Going into this negotiation, I can't lie.
Starting point is 00:11:47 I think he, I believe that. but if you think he's the guy, you're going to have to pay him this amount. Yeah, and that number's not realistic. It's not, they're going to pay him $45 million. Again, they're saying we will pay you $40 to $45, but if not, then we'll just go in a different direction. And I don't think that they're ready to go in a different direction. So they have to pay the tax of bumping it up if you want to look at it that way. I don't think the 49ers look at it as a tax.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I think they fully believe in everything that he's done. I have a question. We talk about this in all other forms of business. Like whatever you do for a living, listening around the country right now, if you told your boss like, this is what I want, or I'll go elsewhere, listen, if you could go elsewhere, go get paid, right?
Starting point is 00:12:34 I just wonder, is there another team in the NFL that would have paid Brock Purdy $53 million? Because that's what market value would dictate, but I just don't know. I think the Niners were fair to him, also based on the fact that he got him to a Super Bowl and an NFC championship game, making like hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Proven he could do it there with that system and that he's coachable, much like Goff as Sam insinuated before. So, yeah, very comparable. So I think, again, like you said, Rich, it may be boring. It's actually nice to hear that. It seemed like a fair deal for everyone involved. It just made sense.
Starting point is 00:13:10 That's partly where I don't think there's much meat on this bone as they say. Because, again, I feel like it was a story that sort of came and went because I think the narrative is like, well, I guess it's sort of a fair deal. Moving along. No controversy. To answer your question?
Starting point is 00:13:26 Lynch and Shanahan like him, you know? I don't think a lot of teams would have paid him more than that. So he took what he can get and he was happy with it and both parties win. But not only took what he could get, I'm saying if the Niners said, hey, no, no, no, 45 a year. What would Brock Purdy have done? Be like, no, not signing. We saw this NFL draft of quarterbacks. But it would have prolonged the process.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I know the Niners then would have been like, oh man, what do we go from here? Right. But I just wonder where Brock Purdy goes from there. You put the franchise tag on him, which is about $46 million next season. And then you have that same discussion the next year when the franchise tag would be worth even more. And don't have the contract flexibility that you would have in signing him to this sort of long-term deal. And if you did what you just mapped out, it's disrespectful to a guy that, was your Mr. Irrelevant and has done so much and seems to be a popular guy in the clubhouse,
Starting point is 00:14:22 locker room, and seems to be a guy that John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers believe in. What a story though. You know, as you sign this contract and we move forward and you get ready to watch the rest of his career with San Francisco at least, you have to say one of the better stories in sports ever. It's like the story of the ugly duckling or something brought the life. It really is. Like no one wanted them. he's irrelevant and then he flourishes in this beautiful swan of a quarterback that has a big fat
Starting point is 00:14:53 contract now honestly it's one of the best and that just makes it solid right there that's the story and to your point covino check out this stat brock purdy's rookie contract paid him an average of nine hundred and thirty four thousand two hundred and fifty two dollars per season now he'll make that every six point four days you know Got to feel good for the kid. Does he stay hungry, though? That's the key in all of life and in all of sports. Does he stay hungry?
Starting point is 00:15:25 Because what made him great probably, well, he has great discipline. He seems like a great guy. But it's the fact that he had this chip on his shoulder to prove that he was relevant. Now that he's got his payday, does that change? A guy like him, I don't think so, but you could speculate. Well, we'll see what happens this year. Now, I'm not saying there's a pressure on, but all right, now you're pay. like a top 10 quarterback.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Can you take this roster that lost a couple pieces, win 10, 11, 12 games and get the 49ers back to where they were? If he could do that, then wouldn't you say, well, you know what? He's worth it. He's the guy. Definitely. The only reason you question him, the stats are there. It's already proven. It's his awshucks little baby boy face. And the fact that he's Mr. Irrelevant, he's an unassuming guy.
Starting point is 00:16:13 He doesn't have superstar qualities, but he wins. Yeah. So that's the only reason we even question it because he doesn't have superstar qualities, but guess who else didn't? The guy with the sweetest diet that we're going to talk about later, Tom Brady. He wasn't a superstar, but he had work ethic. And it's funny we're comparing
Starting point is 00:16:31 Goff to, we're talking about the number one overall pick, which was Jared Goff, to Mr. Irrelevant, the very final pick. And I have to imagine that Goff is just being taller and having longer arms and bigger hands made him obviously a more desirable quarterback.
Starting point is 00:16:46 coming out of college. Yeah, so five years, 265, no trade clause. Danny G. scratches his head on that one. Maybe he just threw that in. Like I said, when I'm buying a car at Danny G, right? Just when I'm about to sign the deal, I'm like, you know what? If you throw in some car washes, free car washes, then I'll take it. Kavino said, I want a shoulder massage once a week. Yeah, you know, wait, I want some sweet new floor mats or something, those rubber ones. Yeah, I want something you want something extra right right in there at the end of the deal maybe he's like guys we got wait a second hold up hold on i'll do this deal i love it in fact but no trade clause and like all right you know what let's just get it done so props to him man it's a really
Starting point is 00:17:30 really great story rich well now what happens here honestly yeah it's not that it doesn't matter but you got a children's book already boom you know how it ends and brock pretty mr relevant signed a five-year deal for $265 million. The end. Doesn't matter what he did. This guy. And he won a Super Bowl? Can we throw that in?
Starting point is 00:17:48 I mean, but you could write that book now. And it's a bestseller. Could you hope that's where the story goes? Yeah, it could get even better than that. Well, just to put in perspective, I will say. Don't sleep on it. It's one of the best stories ever. I would say me. The American Dream is still alive.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Yes. Yes. Honestly, don't forget about the story. As our old boss used to say, think of the story. Oh. This is a movie in the making. And it already ends with a happy ending right here. And it could get even better.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Yeah. Put in perspective. It was 2021. When Brock Purdy waited every single rounds of that draft thinking, oh man, all that hard work in college. Every step of the way. Hey, man, I'm not going to get drafted. I may end up at a practice squad, maybe a practice squad.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Maybe I'll get some reps against, you know, the first team, maybe some team carries me along and I make practice squad money. He gets picked. Trey Lance stinks. Jimmy Gropel gets hurt. And here is Brock Purdy.
Starting point is 00:18:53 It is an amazing story. But to put in perspective, that draft in 2021, who is the top 20 pick? Mack Jones, right? In 2021? Yeah, I think so. Around that time. Mack Jones is now Brock Purdy's backup. Who else was in that draft?
Starting point is 00:19:10 Number three over. Overall, the 49ers gave up a lot to get Trey Lance, who signed a one-year $6 million deal with the Chargers. So just to show you how much changes, there's no way. Zep Wilson was in that draft. Yeah. Jones was 15th overall. Trevor Lawrence was number one.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Wait, so Zach Wilson, Mac Jones. Wait, Zach Wilson was in that draft? Yeah, he was number two. Trevor Lawrence, number one. And Trevor Lawrence isn't even working out to the way they wanted to. So, you know, that was a quarterback top heavy draft, and Brock Purdy was probably thinking, man, it's not going to work out. Meanwhile, here's a guy a couple years later, just to show you how things could change so quickly. Do you ever, does he ever think he would have been the guy making $50 to $60 million?
Starting point is 00:19:57 So just on over the cap.com, when you break down their yearly salaries, Purdy is behind Mack Jones and Curtis Rourke on his own team of salaries for what would be for the rookie contract. What'd you say, Danny? 934,000? Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, you mentioned Jones being the backup. Curtis Rorke's deal is actually worth more than what Purdy had.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Man. So just to show you how just belief in yourself. That's it. By the way, did you ever see that clip you had to have because you're a 49ers fan? But not everybody lives for the 49ers like Rich does, where Nick Bosa has a one-on-one, like private moment with Purdy capture on film. and Bosa's like he opens up real vulnerable and he's like I was a first round pick man and I'm nervous sometimes man I don't know how you do it I don't know how you have that belief in yourself man
Starting point is 00:20:50 rock pretty's almost brought to tears because he just has this crazy belief in himself that you just got to give him credit where it's due good for him give credit where it's due rich do you ever think about how two Super Bowls ago you could have ended purdy's career prematurely because he almost tore his ACL when you when you scared him in the staircase. Chase him to the stairwell. By the way, happy for Brock. Let's go Niners.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And young quarterback has heart attack because he's startled by maniac fans. And Fred Warner got his deal. We had that at the top of the hour. So he's the highest paid linebacker again in the national football. Niners making it rain right now. So you know what? Maybe all is okay in the Bay Area, Santa Clara.
Starting point is 00:21:33 We'll see. I mean, their schedule. I've heard Colin points us out. Stars. But if Brock Purdy can't win 11, 12 games with this week-est schedule they got, then you got to start scratching your head. But the 49 is have the weakest schedule I've seen in a decade. Rich, does this remind you?
Starting point is 00:21:52 The other side story here is the reason we're talking about it now is because we weren't on our normal time slot on Friday when it happened. Dan Byer made the announcement. Meanwhile, it would have been rich because it happened during this time. But we were filling in for Dan Patrick. does it make you think of like man I should have been there in moments like when you're rich was employed by another radio station and didn't show up on his last day and everyone showed up there with a cake for him on that day yeah it's one of my saddest regrets so now you got another one you know
Starting point is 00:22:23 what I thought of uh for the big purdy announcement wasn't uh no I'll think of one I'll put it he threw the last pass to Debo though rich he wasn't there I'll give you one that it'll ring true to you being in that Steve Kavino all things Yankees. Didn't Michael K, he was all butt hurt, that the game where Aaron Judge was like trying to break the record, it was like an Apple TV game? Yeah, yeah, that was a big story.
Starting point is 00:22:49 And he missed out on opening day, I believe, this year, right? Wasn't it? It was his first opening day. It was his first opening day that he wasn't a part of. But yeah, the judge thing was, that was a big deal, though. And I get where you're coming from. It just makes you think of on a side note of things you missed out on. that you should have been at, but for whatever reason or another, you weren't able to make it.
Starting point is 00:23:09 And we filled in for DP on Friday. Catch the podcast if you missed it, but we didn't get a chance to celebrate. And we got robbed of Rich's natural reaction, but Dan Byer did get you on the phone to get your reaction. So that is really cool. Well, listen, coming up, a lot that you're not going on to miss can be known Rich today. Can you do Tom Brady's TB12? The TB12 diet is a lot. It's pretty intense, much like Tom Brady.
Starting point is 00:23:33 There's a lot you have to give up. And when we were looking at this, I was questioning myself, like, how much do you really want to get in shape? So there's a little breakdown of the TB12 diet. It'll be fun to go over. Plus, we're giving away prizes, rich. Plus plus prizes. Last one standing.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Mondays we do it, your chance to win a Swiggy, our coveted stainless steel water bottle. So stick around. We'll do some trivia. Last one standing. We got more, Kavino and Rich next on Fox Sports Radio. All right. Now, from searching online to asking your friends and family,

Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts
Starting point is 00:25:10 throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:25:16 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it and well we were thinking I'm originally calling it
Starting point is 00:25:24 one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different
Starting point is 00:25:32 memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast for people could call in and say, hey Jonas, and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Jen, you win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. watching the last week of Around the Horn. Props to Tony Reilly. Never crossed paths, but only heard good things about the guy. Got mutual friends.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Congrats to their long run. Watched it for 23 years when he was stat boy on PTI. Yeah, buddy. I'm Covino. That is Rich. The worldwide leaders of nonsense. Hope you had a great weekend. Cody Bellinger sort of weekend.
Starting point is 00:29:02 That came was close until the eighth. I mean, it was two, too. I mean, though, I mean. Not an Antonio Brown sort of weekend. Is this guy shooting at things? I was going to say shooting people, but he wasn't shooting. He was just shooting guns. He got robbed.
Starting point is 00:29:14 People were trying to rob him at a fight and busted out some guns, getting into trouble. So, yeah, I hope you had a better weekend than that. We're going to play the last one standing to have a great week, a great Monday, giving away prizes here on the Kavino and Rich Show Fox Sports Radio. Live from the Fox Sports Radio studio, remember for over 40 years, Tyraq has been helping customers find the right tires for how, what, and where they drive. ship fast and free back by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tire rack.com the way tire buying should be.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Now Rich, before we move on, again, your chance to win some prizes. Last one standing. If you want to play later, 87799 on Fox. You always welcome you to chime in. Any final thoughts on your boy? Rock Purdy, man. I think the only narrative that changes. How about him making, what's the expression when you make people?
Starting point is 00:30:07 Like, eat their words. Isn't there an expression for that? Eat crow. Yeah, eat crow. How about him? Is that your grandma? No, yeah. Eat crow.
Starting point is 00:30:15 No, that's why I looked at Sam because he has references of an 80-year-old. Yeah. So. She also says, as the crow flies. No, but it's true. That's a good thing because that matters. It says straight line like a, because it's not in roads. And how?
Starting point is 00:30:27 How about the real, the real part of the story that everybody can relate to, the satisfaction one gets when you make people eat crow. He doesn't. He doesn't have to say anything, but you know what? How many people on TV, Danny G? Please don't say that again. You were just saying it. How many people were saying he's a nobody quarterback, a nobody quarterback from Norville?
Starting point is 00:30:50 He has no athleticism, no star power. He's just here for the moments, the system, he's going to be nobody. There was a take that stands out to us that we saw on FS1 where the panel was arguing, would he have to win two Super Bowls to be a legitimate star quarterback in the league? Yeah, where are those people now? How about making people eat crow? That's such a great feeling, man. I wish that for everybody.
Starting point is 00:31:13 However. Because everybody's doubted at one point. With the money now does come the expectation, right? Like, when Brock Purdy would ever slip up, it's like, yeah, but we got to like nothing. What a steal. It's Brock Purdy. Now when he's making like practically, you know, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence money, he's right there in that same pocket of Goff and Tua, you know, top 10 cuby money.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Nah, because you know what? This adds to the crow or whatever that means. Stop saying Carl. It does, because now people are going to be like, yeah, but is he really worth it? Now he has to prove it. The criticism will be tenfold. The criticism is still going to be there. So it just puts more of a chip, more of a fire in his belly, and now more reason to have them eat crow even more, whatever that means.
Starting point is 00:31:53 You know, I feel that inside, Rich. There's a part of me. We ask you not to say that again. I'm sorry. But there's a part of me and I think a part of everybody that uses things like that as motivation. You could let it fire you down. or you could let it fire you up. And I definitely use that as fuel to my fire and everything that I do.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Anyone that doubted me, anyone that didn't believe in me, dude, here's the crow. Now I want to shove it in your face. Now, as much as I would love that to be the narrative, because if you don't know, Kvinan on Rich, Rich Davis, I'm a Niners fan. So I want Brock Purdy to show everyone that I'm worth all 53 million. In fact, I love it. Niners got me on a steal of a deal, of a wheel of a deal, and watch me now. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Yeah. But then there's the other part of me that thinks of a famous quote from Queen Latifah. Uh-oh. First time someone's quoted Queen Latifah on Fox Sports Radio, I bet. No, Danny did last week. Yeah, I don't know. He missed it. I mean, that was Ben Mallor, a big Queen Latifah fan?
Starting point is 00:32:54 Your boy Mallor says that Purdy doesn't elevate anybody around him. That guy's full of baloney. That guy's full of Gabagoola. What does he make? The Babagoooooooooooole. That guy's full of Baba Ginoos. Look at that guy. Gabagoole.
Starting point is 00:33:05 It looks like Shrek eating Baba Gnush. It was Baba Ginoosh. Now it's Gaba Gould in the promo. And you don't make Gaba Gould. Could someone tell them it's an Italian meat? You don't make it? You don't mix it. Anyway, there is that sense of Queen Latifah.
Starting point is 00:33:18 There's a saying where you get way more famous before you become rich, meaning a lot of celebrities will make their best stuff, best albums, best movies, best shows. And they're not really paid much. Then they get paid a ton to do a hunk of junk. the album they got paid the most for is their stinker. The movie that they got paid 20 mil to do is the box office pooper. So you're famous before you become rich. Yeah, so I'm just hoping that we didn't see the best of Brock Purdy. I hope we don't look back and say,
Starting point is 00:33:55 I remember in the beginning, NFC Championship got hurt, then went to the Super Bowl. I'm hoping Brock Purdy is not a no playoff wild card quarterback. and we're like, oh, remember the good old days when we thought. I don't think you'll get that from Brock. I certainly hope not. I just don't. I don't think he's that type of guy.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And there's guys, I love their confidence. Like Big Brandon who works here, one of the editors, he's a big Niners guy. He's a firm believer that because he's also a guy that they have to build around. He's not the superstar. They'll have a superstar line. They'll continue giving him weapons that he needs. They give him superstar money, though. Yeah, no, but there's still money for other players.
Starting point is 00:34:30 It's fair money. What I'm saying is guys like our buddy Brandon. believe that when your front offices like Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, there are certain offices in all of sports where you could guarantee that they'll always be competitive because of the way they run the organization. So you could argue that the Niners drafted well this year. You will see, right? I mean, who knows?
Starting point is 00:34:50 But with their weak-ass schedule, Brock Purdy is soft launching. You know, when a pitcher comes back from the IL, and you really hope their first start back is against the, long team. Like, Kavino, you wouldn't want a pitcher. You wouldn't want Gary Cole's first start to be against, like, the Dodgers. Right. Because you're like, well, what, he's thrown into the wolves right away?
Starting point is 00:35:15 Right. I think you always want your star pitcher to come back and play like the Marlins in their first game. You want to build off the confidence. Play the Angels. Yeah, exactly. Well, who swept the Dodgers this weekend. But I will say, I think with Brock Purdy, he gets his contract.
Starting point is 00:35:30 And then he has the weakest schedule. So Brock Purdy is essentially playing the White Sox in his first game back is what I'm saying. Well, look at the Niners schedule. They don't play any team you would consider a Super Bowl contender. The Niners may be won and done in the playoffs, but I bet you the Niners over will hit. If it's 11 and a half in Vegas, Niners could go 14 and 3 and be that team this year that's way overrated. They play bunk teams.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Take a look when you get a chance. There's trash on that schedule. Oh, man, it's the NFL though. Like, you never know. It gets better. We talked about this on Doug's show. The schedules this time in May are not what they are in September and October. Injuries play a factor.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Team surprise. Teams disappoint. No, I agree because sometimes the team could be bunk one year and then great the next year. But, for example, let me just rattle off some of the 49ers opponents and tell me this isn't a great entrance for Brock Purdy and is $53 million. 49ers kick off the season. Wait, wait, wait, wait. We have to do this properly here. The rich loves to look at the schedule game.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Tim, we're watching. And there's not a guy that likes to look at the schedule more than me, huh? It's true. I'm sorry, guys. I'll just give you the first five. 49ers. At the Seahawks. No offense, Dan.
Starting point is 00:36:48 I don't think your Seahawks are, I think, I feel confident there. Oh, you do? Yeah, you're considering Seattle went to San Francisco last year and beat the 40 members? They were 10 and 7 this past year. Get burned. Yeah. No, feel confident on all you want. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:37:04 All right. So 1-0. Okay. Then they play at the Saints, 2-0. Then they play the Cardinals at home, 3-0. Then they play the Jags in Santa Clara, 4-0. You said that about the Cardinals last season, too. You know there'll be a loss in there.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Yeah, this is going to be a 3-and-2 somewhere. Then they play the Rams, Bucks, Falcons, just two wins in there. The Niners, they don't play. That's a win. That's a loss. They don't play Buffalo, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Green, Bay, Minnesota, Eagles. They play, anyone that I would say,
Starting point is 00:37:38 Kvino, give me the best teams. Detroit, like, they have the easiest schedule in the NFL. In the history of the NFL, I think. Yeah, it's 41% winning percentage, something like that. Right now on paper. That does help. Yeah, but you have to deliver. So, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:37:50 You'll help build some confidence. Hey, speaking of quarterbacks, we're going to talk Tom Brady and his crazy diet. You got to hear what's involved with this diet. Would you do it? Could you do it? We'll explain. We've heard about the TB12 diet, but they've not. gone into what he does. Oh, yeah, it's very detailed.
Starting point is 00:38:07 It's wild. Dan Byer, update us on the world of sports. What's up, man? The 49ers making moves again today, making Fred Warner, the highest paid onball linebacker in the NFL, giving him a three-year extension. We're $63 million. Right down. 15 and 2 this year.
Starting point is 00:38:22 See, Rich is so overconfident with his team. And Kavino, you and Spot no Rich much longer than I have. But it's when they lose and he gets so butt hurt about it that there's just not an equal given take. There's no back and forth. So we'll see week one. Maybe 14 to three. Talking trash about the Seahawks. All right. 49ers, though. Yeah, the way he set that up, by the way,
Starting point is 00:38:44 I didn't realize they were starting with the Seahawks. Like, he totally dumped on the Seahawks. Yeah, absolutely. If you would have said, if Saints was the first game, I would have felt more confident, which. Noted. Very, very well noted. Three year, $63 million extension for Warner. $56 million dollars guaranteed.
Starting point is 00:39:00 It's $21 million a year for Warner who now passes Roeck Juan Smith for that highest paid on-ball linebacker title. Eagles gave head coach Nick Siriani a multi-year contract extension and the Brown signed fifth round pick, Shador Sanders, to his rookie deal, four-year contract with $4.6 million. Other rookie signingsignings include the Chargers signing their first round pick, running back Amari and Hampton, and the Packers signing their first rounder at wide receiver Matthew Golden.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Pat 40 of S.com reports the Notre Dame USC football rivalry could be coming to an end after the 2025 season, but the schools are still negotiating possibly a long-term extension. USC has proposed a short-term extension to at least play in 2026. Braves activated pitcher Spencer Strider from the 15-day IL. He'll pitch tomorrow against the Nats. Dodgers activated outfield of Teaska Hernandez from the IL and optioned outfield of James Altman to AAA, Oklahoma City. And finally, guys, for those that may not be aware, but the Indy 500 is coming to Fox.
Starting point is 00:39:58 You'll see it on Sunday, but you will not see two-time defense. champion Joseph Newgarden near the front. Pushed to the back of the grid along with Team Penske, teammate willpower after rules violations in qualifying again, the Indy 500 on Fox coming up on Sunday. Guys, back to you. No, thank you, DB. And that Spencer Strider coming back is a big deal. For a team that started out so bad, I will say this.
Starting point is 00:40:20 I like to dump on teams I don't like, but I've told you all long, don't count the Braves out just because they started so bad. They're over 500, just like that. That was like the most meager trash start for a good team. Remember they what? They were like one in seven, one and eight to start. 24 and 23 as we speak. So congrats to all the Atlanta fans.
Starting point is 00:40:41 That's going to get real tight down the stretch with the Mets, Phillies, and Braves. So your team in the division of trash. How tight, like your summer shorts, like those new ones you bought? Tider than a team in a division with not another team over 500 like your Yankees. Okay. Red Sox in second place, two games under 500. Great division. So, hey, stick around because we will talk some baseball, some Juan Soto.
Starting point is 00:41:02 I'm sorry, Juan Soso. And if you want to hear, if you're trying to lose some weight and you think you could pull off the Tom Brady diet, man, you got to stick around because this is insane. And one last thing, there's something of rooting interest in the NBA conference championships. There is a reason why we should be paying even closer attention. I'll let you know that too. So you've got a lot to listen for. More. C&R. next.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to us.
Starting point is 00:41:41 We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:42:07 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel

Starting point is 00:45:09 Did you pull this out of my Alt Vault playlist? Yes. I got a legendary Alt Vault playlist that I made myself. Oh, good for you. that's Iowa Sam. It's Kavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio giving away prizes this show with last one standing the toughest, most intense game of all.
Starting point is 00:45:36 What a way to start the week. That's opposite of Brock Purdy. You give us a hard schedule. Why on a Monday when I'm dragging ass do we have the toughest game of the week? Brock Purdy's got that easy schedule. I saw you yawn earlier. I think it's the best game of the week.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Is that the best way to start off? Yeah, I love last one. So we'll play that give away prize and a little bit. Stick around for that. And then tomorrow we'll do some trivia. Either Shaq Diesel. Shaq Diesel tomorrow. Somebody stopped by doing some trivia.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Shaq is on the board. All right, nice. So always giving away prizes. Again, thank you guys for hanging out with us. We're Kavino and Rich live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio. And it's time for our tire rack play of the day. Former Dodger now kick-ass Yankee. Cody Bellinger came up big for the Bronx bombers and I loved it.
Starting point is 00:46:21 Bellinger. Biles it in the right field. back it goes at the wall Soto at the fence leaf it's gone wow what a night what a night a grand slam for cody bellinger the yankees have blown it open it's an eight two Yankee lead oh good for you and your gangers and yes it was a great weekend my Yankees closed the gap a little with our bet rich you and I have a bet rich and I have a bet about who has the best record by the end of the and that was courtesy of the Yankees Radio Network, and that's our Tyraq play of the day,
Starting point is 00:46:58 and I loved every second of it. Thank you, Tyrax. For over 40 years, Tyraq helping customers find the right tires for how, what, and where they drive, shift fast and free, backed by free road hazard protection and convenient installation options. Can I just say that when Max Fried struck out Soto,
Starting point is 00:47:15 I felt a little tingle in my Fox Sports Radio Dingball? Dude, it was a really nice. It was a knee-buckling braking balls. I mean, boy, y'all, y' y'all. Dude, he is one of the elite pitchers in the league. Slow down. Keep your pants on. We wouldn't have had them if we had Soto.
Starting point is 00:47:29 Why do you say that? Because I don't think they would have made the moves they made had they kept Soto. Had they kept Soto? So honestly, they wouldn't have been worried about their pitching stuff? In retrospect, the fact that the Yankees got freed and Goldschmidt and Williams and Bellinger with the granny. You and Yankee fans are so sad. You know what you're like Yankees fans like Kavino. You put all your eggs in that one Soto basket.
Starting point is 00:47:50 And honestly, I thought they should have because he helped get. them to a World Series. Now I'm sort of glad they didn't. The Yankees are more well-rounded. Now that you couldn't get them, now you're doing this whole BS thing. It's not justification. Yankee fans are doing this justice weekend. No, you might as well go on Facebook and talk about how you've been happier than ever.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I'm going based on what my eyes saw over the weekend and what they've been seeing. Convino and Yankee fans are ex-girlfriends that post about how they've never been happier. They're the greatest ever been. Singling and mingling. Sitting there. Oh, my God. Happier than I've ever been. Living my best life.
Starting point is 00:48:22 Yankee fans get over yourselves. It's almost gross. It's almost sad. It's almost sad how the pinstripe pride and this proud team just can't handle. You dated him for a year. He's with me now. It wasn't just some random Ansler year. It was a year that they went to the World Series in.
Starting point is 00:48:41 So that's part of the journey. You left with unfinished business. I don't know why that doesn't matter to you. Oh, probably because your team hasn't won a World Series since 86. But that matters. That matters. So you left with unfinished business for what, your neighbors next door for $5 million extra? Beat it then.
Starting point is 00:48:59 That is a slap in the face. It's a slap in the face. It's not just about money. And he's explained that. Yankee fans don't like to hear anything unless he left for the money. He's a bag chasing. Now of a sudden, now of a sudden he's lazy and fat as a slug. According to who?
Starting point is 00:49:12 According to reporters. According to you and like Yankee nerds on. Bob clapish and Michael Kay and everybody else. We'll explain. Bob clap this. Get out of here. Tell him to his face. Bob will probably smack you in the face.
Starting point is 00:49:22 It's like an old reporter. How about a clap to the face? So we'll explain because now there's a story of Juan Soto's lack of enthusiasm and people are noticing. I'm not even... And I noticed it too. I'm not even quite sure what that means. I know exactly what it means.
Starting point is 00:49:36 It means body language. What do you mean you don't know what it means? You don't know what enthusiasm is? The only thing that Juan Soto has yet to break out. Oh, you mean the Soto Shuffle? Is the infamous Soto Shuffle. Yeah, because there's nothing to shuffle about. That's why.
Starting point is 00:49:48 The Mets are in first place. They have a better record than the Yankees. And it shows that he still a me guy. because your team's still doing well and he's still pouting like a big baby. He's not playing with the same gusto and attitude. Forget about the numbers. Attitude that he had last year and years before.
Starting point is 00:50:03 His exit velocity is second only to Aaron Judge. He's hitting the ball hard at people. He's not letting the ball's just not falling. Juan Soto will get hot. That is a guarantee. I don't understand why anyone, Yankees fans, Mets fans, anyone will be worried about Wons Soto. The Mets have their best start in,
Starting point is 00:50:22 Like, you know, the last 25 years. Meanwhile, because Juan Soto is a little, you know, statistically under-delivering? Well, we'll explain what they mean by lack of enthusiasm. Plus, Tom Brady's diet. You want to lose weight? You're feeling like a slob? You're going to have to take some notes right here on the Cavino and Rich show. We do it next.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:50:55 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed. First people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen.
Starting point is 00:51:13 We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&LN. Michael's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 00:51:34 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know.
