What a performance last night. You know, it's... It is a marvel.

There's only two athletes in my life. Maybe three. Messy, maybe the third. Where maybe they're not the greatest player, Brady, LeBron, and Messi. But on any moment, on any possession, they transcend the game and are still dominant players. I mean, last night, you know, Wembe's got 50 and Yannis can get 59. But LeBron James put on a show last night that was one for the agents. The goat! It's official, colleague.

Come on. We love him. All right. So LeBron and the Lakers beat Memphis. But it was beyond that. LeBron had 35 points. He's in year 22. He's shooting 46% from three-point land.

Best of his career. A third straight triple double. So Michael Jordan was more like Seinfeld. Nine great years, highly impactful, still discussed today. LeBron's become Law & Order. We're on year 35. I watched an episode, too. days ago, it still crushes.

I know Michael played 15 seasons, and many of them were great, but he was a shell of himself at the end. LeBron's in year 22. On any possession, best player on the floor, in any game, 80 got in a foul trouble. They're like, LeBron, take it over. Best player on the floor. He's not as good as Yokic. On Yonis's best night, he's not as good as Yonis.

He really doesn't have the dexterity anymore of Wembe. Wembe's just insane. And Aunt Edwards is much more dynamic, athletically, and a consistent. basis. But LeBron's IQ, his leadership, his ability to pick up things during the course of a game. And it's always been this Michael Jordan LeBron thing. LeBron's easily got the best resume in the history of basketball. Michael was red hot for about eight to nine years. Red hot. He was the coolest player. He was the best looking. He was the best dressed. I'm not denying that. For a nine-year stretch, there's nothing like him. Love him. I watched air again three nights ago. I watched the

movie about Michael Jordan. He's still relevant today. His shoes, I think, still out sell LeBron's. I'm not, but you can't give me this Michael with six for six. If you want to do titles, Russell had 11. Robert Orie's got more. There's got to be layers in contextualization. I've argued forever.

If the Chicago Bulls were in the Western Conference, like the Chicago Blackhawks are in hockey, it's right on the line. He would have lost multiple finals because he couldn't beat Bird in the Celtics or Isaiah in the Pistons for years, so we never got to finals, stop punishing LeBron for being more successful.

He got the 10 finals. MJ to 6. Magic got to 9. MJ to 6. Stop punishing people for being more successful. Don't be so ring-obsessed, contextualized stuff. What LeBron's doing doesn't make sense. I mean, again, messy on any possession in soccer, that's the best thing. That's the best player in the world.

Tom Brady at the very end. Only like Mahomes was better, absolutely. I still would have taken Brady over Lamar, Josh Allen on a drive with a minute to go in a game. I would have taken Mahomes over Brady, but I would have taken Brady over everybody else, not named Patrick Mahomes. And last night, you're watching LeBron, 35 points, triple double, third straight game. I mean, it's just, it's just crazy to me.

And his intelligence is huge because, you know, last night, end of the game, big possessions, you know, we're looking at now 18 dominant seasons for LeBron James, 18 to 20. Michael had nine. I mean, really, really dominated the league seasons, 9 to 10. Like it's just you get into a point where it's like Brady's stats post 40. That's part of the story. Brady's career post 40 is better than 95% of the players who've ever played. LeBron's career post-34 is better than not only some All-Stars, but 95% of the players that have ever played.

Down the stretch, J.J. Reddick and J.J. is a smart guy. He has clearly discovered that Anthony Davis is the best player on a consistent basis. but LeBron, he'll listen to him. He'll let LeBron coach on the floor. The Lakers won. LeBron was amazing, and here's J.J. Redick after. Braun saw something in the way that they had guarded it the first two times, and him and they are.

I said, are you three? You on the same page? Just want to make sure you three have the same page. The other two guys are doing the same thing. Yeah, we got it. Bron gets a back cut for a dunk, so he's just, you know, he's mastered the game, and we don't win that. game obviously without him.

And that has often been the case for every team he's ever played on in year 22. You don't win the game without him. So this sounds like a criticism. Has your wife ever told you the best version of you is the getting out of the way you? I mean, I've never heard that personally, but I've heard that before. The best version of you is sort of getting out of the way you. That's what Nick Sariani's become. So the Eagles play tonight.

and they play Washington. I like Philadelphia tonight. Home team, veteran quarterback at home, better roster, short rest. I think it's a tough ask for a rookie quarterback to go and play in one of the loudest stadiums in the country against arguably the best roster. I like Philadelphia tonight to pull away second half. But it's interesting. If you go to the first five games this year, Philadelphia's offense and Siriani's an offensive coach. And the last five games, they average almost 11 points more a game.

It's a totally different team. Totally different team. Why? Because remember in the offseason you were hearing about Kellan Moore and Nick Sariani and Jalen Hertz? There was all this. And you always heard that about Shane Steichen and Nick Seriani. Are they getting along? When Nick Seriani got out of Shane Steikin's way and let him call the offense, they went to a Super Bowl.

And you've been hearing about this, Kellanmore, Nick Seriani, at the beginning of this season, there was a lot of, I don't know if it's going to work, Kellan Moore beginning. Remember when he got hired, it was like, I don't know. No, is he going to have the offense or Siriani? And at the beginning of this season, it was Siriani meddling too much. Now he stepped out of the way, just like he did with Stuyken in the last month, and look at the offense. It's great. Kyle Shanahan and Andy Reed and Sean Payton. They play design.

They play college. It's their specialty. They're on the headset. That's their specialty. But there are a lot of great coaches in this league. Dan Campbell, Mike Tomlin, Pete Carroll was a Jimmy John. Johnson was known more as a walk-around coach. That's a turn that's used.

Walk-around guy. You set the tone. You set the temperature of the team. But you hire Josh McDaniels. Belichick did that on offense. And I was talking to Josh McDaniels after the show yesterday. He said, Bill, you know, once a game is like, hey, what do you think here? Or what do you want to call here?

He said, but Bill understood. Like, that's my expertise. Tom and Josh McDaniels, you got to get into a flow. There's a certain tempo to offense. And it's really tough, even with an offensive coach. Either you're all in or you're a walk-around guy. You can't go halfway. You can't go halfway.

And beginning of this year, Kellynne Moore and Siriani, Nick was dabbling too much, just like he did with Nick Seriani early on. And when he finally said, Nick, it's your offense. And this year, when he said, Kellyn, it's your offense. And by the way, this is not a criticism. Dan Campbell is a walk-around guy. Mike Tomlin, walk-around guy. Pete Carroll, walk-around guy.

some guys are specialists like Sean Payton is going to design call orchestrate the offense that's Kyle Shanahan that's fine but the criticism of Kyle Shanahan has been maybe you should walk around more and take a look at your special teams they're always awful and with Dan Campbell he wants to set the tone and temperature he wants to touch all the parts but you don't want to mellow I mean I was just talking to somebody about Jim Harbaugh is it Jim Harbaugh it's a true story about Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harbaugh Jim Harba ball will go into meetings and he wants his assistant coaches and coordinators to figure out the jigsaw puzzle he'll walk into a coaching meeting he'll watch a play let's say a screenplay is getting blown up here and he'll turn to his coordinators i've heard this about jim for years and he'll go who boy you guys have a ruffling on your hands this week that boy that defense blows up screenplays jim gets up and walks out he identifies the issue boy you guys got your hands full this week gets up walks out. Your job to figure it out. So it's not a criticism. Harbaugh tends to be more walk-around guy. I mean, there's video all over the internet of him walking around and getting guys pumped.

Tone temperature. And so I think that's the thing with I struggle with Siriani is that he's had these, you got to give him credit. He's got the self-awareness to go to know. Siriani, I pulled away. We got great. And I think early in the season, he went back because, you know, Kellyn, he's gone through all these coordinators, right? And you're a head coach. and you want to make if I hire somebody on this show and the staff you want to babysit you want a helicopter and all of a sudden after five weeks I think nick seriani went oh i'm doing the same thing to call him more you know that i did the shame stuykin and so he had the self-awareness to go i'm gonna back off and i'm gonna i'm gonna put my arms around the whole thing and i think that that well i think

that's what he is it's not a criticism mike tomlin's made a career pete carroll dan campbell jim harbaw not in on all the play Belichick's not telling Josh McDaniels what to do so I think what you're hearing now is the Siriani Kellynne-Morthy So we've seen two different versions of the Eagles offense with Jalen Hertz

Underachieving and turnover prone or great There's like no middle class with it It's like it's a mess that won't work Oh that's unbelievable Right now Jalen Hertz is unbelievable And I think sometimes Husbands have heard this the best you is stay out of the way you and that's okay.

J-Mack, I know you've never heard that, but there are guys that have been... I haven't heard in the last 12 hours, but I've heard that one before. Interesting, there's a lot of stuff at play tonight. Do you remember how many years we've talked about Cliff Kingsbury kind of cratering in the second half of seasons? Texas Tech, Arizona. That was... So the last two weeks, this Washington... has not looked amazing offensively.

I wonder tonight do we see kind of a rock bottom, maybe a rookie wall for Jay. Well, in Philadelphia, to me, even with the hook, is the play. Yeah. I'm with you. I like the Eagles. But I think this is interesting. We've been singing the praises of Kingsbury on here.

I just... I'll throw this at you. I don't know this to be true. But I'll throw a Cliff Kingsbury theory at you. Very nice guy. A player's coach does not discipline. Little too soft to be a head coach, college, or pro. He doesn't like confrontation.

Over the course of a football season, as a coach or a coordinator, there has to be confrontation. There's apathy, there's mistakes. So Cliff is a very good coach. He brings a certain positivity and optimism to every place he goes and people feel good about themselves. But players like the rest of us in our lives get lazy and sloppy and need somebody to bark. And he's not a barker. So Cliff Kingsbury's teams over the course of his season, don't wear as well.

And the coaches, Andy Reid is a barker. Sean Payton's a barker. Belichick was a barker. Harbaugh can use volume. So everybody on the internet wants a coach that never yells. Volume works. Kirby Smart can bark. Sark can bark.

Saban bark. By the way, Urban Meyer could bark. You know who never barks? Lincoln Riley. His teams at USC have gotten worse over seasons. Is that if you're very optimistic and you're very positive, players love that. So do you need a good cop, bad cop? Maybe Dan Quinn is...

And Dan, so Cliff, I've been told, is a great coordinator because he doesn't have to be the bad cop. He doesn't like it. But I am theorizing here is that if you look at a lot of the... Rick Newheisel had this reputation. He's smart guy, good coach. But in the end, where's the bite? Where's the bark?

Because all of us, I'm the same way. After the football season, you know, it's like I'm full speed ahead football season. And then we hit basketball and we hit draft. that it's like some days I got to get that neuro gum down because I got no energy for the show. Just hop on my back, buddy. I'll carry you to the finish line.

I was watching Wemby last night. Yonis, 59. By the way, 16 of 17 free throws for Yonis last night. This was a guy who couldn't make free throws, remember? The fans were counting to 10 because he was doing the violation. Well, he's worked, you know, like a Lamar Jackson. Yeah. He's okay to work on your game.

Yeah. Tim Duncan got to be a better free throw shooter. Oh, yeah. That's a good one. Yeah, Tim wasn't good early, but, you know. their coach, Dan Lannning, is getting, according to a story, NFL interest. People in the NFL see him as very much Dan Campbell of the Lions. Alpha, culture creator, I mean, high intensity. Here's the thing. Years ago, I thought being a great college coach at a program like a Texas or an Oregon was equal to being an NFL coach. I mean, when Saban went from the Miami Dolphins to Alabama, I get it. Better job maybe.

but not anymore. The NIL and Transfer Portal, it's just swung too far. I'm all for change. I love conference realignment. I love the playoff. I love the games. But the NIL and Transfer Portal,

now let's just talk transfer portal. It's basically, it's free agency with no contracts and no salary cap. I mean, that's literally what it is. Basically, Patrick Mahomes right tackles like, I'm upset, I'm not playing.

I'm going to go play for the Ravens. That doesn't work. The pendulum, I've seen this my entire life in so many big. businesses, it swung way too far. It used to be too hard for players to transfer. Coaches move. Why can't play? Now it's too easy. I mean, a kid before the Michigan Ohio State game, a Michigan player could go join Ohio

State and say, you want the audibles this week? You want the play calls? I mean, that's not what you want. And so this is why Jay Wright, see you, save and buy, coach, that's why a lot of these coaches, we just saw Boston College head coach say, I'll go to Green Bay. I don't want to deal. We have words now that we didn't even have three years. ago. Collectives. A coach has to deal with a collective. Donors, regents, politics. And you got multiple, you know, transfer windows. So guys are in and out of programs all the time. And there's no salary camp. And I don't

think players, they don't mind players getting paid. They like that. But I've been told, it's hard to create a culture. Lincoln, Riley, and Brian Kelly are finding this out. You're walking on eggshells. A player has a bad game. you want to actually sit your quarterback for three weeks? He just transfers. None of the players want to deal with adversity. And these coaches aren't equipped to be general managers. They don't know what they're doing.

In fact, what's happening in college football, the good programs are finding out of work or former general managers to run their salary cap. Coaches don't have time for this. They don't know what to pay a high school player. So it's just, and again, I mean, some of these players have longer Lamborghini leases than they do stays at their current school. I mean, they're just bouncing around the sport.

I don't mind players getting paid. But there's got to be a salary cap or a contract or something. I can't just walk out of this company. I got, I'm just having a bad show. I'm just leaving today. Or in the middle of a football season. I got a transfer window. It's called the end of my contract.

You know, that's when I could. But you have to have some certainty in the sport. And it's very, very hard to create a culture when you're walking on eggshells. You know, and by the way, it's not all pro player. Why would I develop a player? Hell, I'll just go by Wisconsin's right tackle. Why would I want to develop players? I'll develop the really good ones, but what if a kid comes in?

He's a slow growth player. He'll be really good in three years. I'm not going to wait three years. I'll go get Boston College best player tied end, put him in. So it's not all great for the players. Coaches get over players very fast. They make decisions now. You know, you're six games in.

to a freshman's career and it's like, yeah, I don't have three years to develop that kid. Back of the line, kid, go transfer to UNLV football. That's happening all over the place. So it's not just poor coaches. Players aren't growing. I was talking to an NFL exec about a month ago. He said, it's not a very good draft. A lot of these kids have not been developed.

They're talented, but they bounced around to two or three programs. They're really talented, bad football players. So I think Dan Lanning, if I was Dan Lanning, now he's got it pretty good. That's one of the top six, seven jobs because of Phil Knight's NIL money, but I think the pendulum has swung too far. I love the games. I love conference realignment. I have no problem with the NIL.

But the transfer stuff is a circus. You spend as much time recruiting your own players to stay as you do guys to come to your school. It's just too much. It's relentless. These college football coaches get like 10 days a year when they can turn the phone off. 10 days. NFL guys make more money, have a better. pension, actually have a pension, and they get 45 days a year.

Which one would your family want? Right? So if Dan Lannning, if it comes calling, I get these top coaches. I get a Ryan Day. I get Jim Harbaugh. Have you watched Jim Harbaugh? He kind of looks happy. You notice that?

I mean, they had the NCAA all over him for three years. Literally the last couple of years, you could go buy a high school football player, which used to be the death penalty. You can now buy a high school football player. You can pay him as a sophomore, junior. And USC got in trouble this week because they had an extra special teams coach. Who cares? Connor Stallions.

Give me a break. Everybody's got, you know, the microscope and everybody else's plays. It's a circus. So the pendulum's gone way too far one. I'm not anti-transfer portal. But even the NFL's got, you know, a designated salary cap. You got to have contracts. There's a free agency period.

You got to have bumpers on that, on this bowling alley. You got to have some bumpers here to keep the ball in the middle of the lane. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, big one this weekend. Raven Steelers, everybody's fired up for that game.

Lamar Jackson is looking to buck the trend of his struggles against Pittsburgh. Lamar, weirdly, just one and three against the Steelers in his career and was asked about his poor record heading into the AFC North Showdown. I don't know what it is, man. It's just that, I believe, that rival atmosphere. I believe last year we were supposed to have them, but things just didn't go out way. You know, the football guys wasn't on our side. But it's a whole other year's New Year.

I'm looking forward to the game. Yeah, it is a great rivalry. So we've got some numbers here on Lamar. It's just, what do you chalk it up to? Familiarity, Tomlin being a genius. Well, Mike Tomlin has been in his career like Belichick. very good with young quarterbacks. Now, Lamar has graduated.

I think last year he graduated to, he's a franchise guy. You can't call him young anymore. Like Justin Herbert's not young anymore. I give you like three, three and a half years, you're a young quarterback. Year four, you're a guy. So I think Lamar will start winning some of these games.

But Mike Tomlin, Bill Belichick, Sean McDermott, some of these best defensive coaches, they, I mean, look at, Dimeco Ryan's got five picks off Jared Gough. Right? And Jared's great. So I think a lot of it's just Tomlin.

And this is the second straight week. Steelers will face a running quarterback. Do you remember what Jayden Daniels did on the ground against Pittsburgh? I thought he would have some success. I thought he had a very good first half. He had three carries for five yards. So Steelers did a good job bottling him up. Highsmith and Watt.

Well, Highsmith ended up getting hurt, but they were coming on the ends and not letting him break the pocket. And I would assume the same will happen on Lamar this weekend. It's a bit of an advantage for Pittsburgh, having faced Lamar Jackson light a week ago. Yeah. That's a huge edge. Yeah.

Right? So you're facing the guy in Lamar that you've seen multiple times, and now we just had his kind of comp the week before. That's why this is a stayaway game. I think the number's right, but Pittsburgh goes in with a couple advantages of having faced. Lamar's always brutal if you've never faced, and that's why he's so good against the NFC.

Yeah, there was some three and a halves, I believe, earlier. Those are all gone. This is, you know, in this, it's like just take the underdog, always. Yeah. Like when these two battle, because it's just, you know, Harbaugh and Tomlin, then familiarity is unbelievable. Next up, Colin, is another big AFC matchup. This is the number one game of the weekend.

Chiefs undefeated go to Buffalo to take on the bills. Since the start of the 2020 season, these teams have met seven times. Good rivalry between Allen and Mahomes. But Josh Allen, this is, there's no extra motivation ahead of Sunday's matchup. Big game, yes? This week? It's a week 11 game. It's no bigger, no less than the last 10 games that we've had.

And that's, I know the media perception and the fan perception and what this game means. But for us, it's just week 11 for us. Yeah. Nobody believes that. Come on. Nobody believes that. This game all comes down to the injury report on Sunday morning. If the bills have their receivers or most of them,

them, I think they have a chance to win. If they come in without the rookie, without Amari Cooper. Coleman's been ruled out. So he's out. I think what happens is at practice today if Kincaid isn't a go, it's probably a sign he's not going to play, and I think we'll see this line come back toward the Chiefs a little bit. Amari Cooper, they're hopeful he can make it happen.

I will say the bills have shown well in the regular season. Remember they went to Sanfran to beat the Niners last year, and I think they took the last two regular season matchups from the Chiefs, but in the playoffs, different story. and you know who turns out on top. Final story, Colin, is to the NBA. Last night, Yannis was absolutely dominant in an overtime win against the Pistons. 59 points.

He also scored 22 of their first 24 points. Just reminding people, oh, yeah, I'm one of the best players in the league. He outscored Detroit in overtime 11 to 9, and the 59 points were the highest by any NBA player this season. Also, Wembe Nyama dropped 50, I think you referenced that earlier. Eight three-pointers? That's all he shoots now. That's all he does. Eight threes?

He's 12th in the NBA and three-point attempts, and he's seven-foot four. What are we doing? Are you saying this is not a good strategy? Well, he's unstoppable within eight, nine feet of the hoop. Unstoppable. So we're going to have him shoot a shot that he's not as efficient at. So... But the analytic mavens, this is the future of the game.

dunks are threes. And right now, the NBA, 40% of shots now are threes. Would you rather have two points or three? I would rather have efficiency. I would rather have a guy make 59% than 37%. I don't go to watch sports for math. Well, I think the spurs coaching staff likes winning, which they did not do last year. Over the course of volume of a season, but in the playoffs, you'll notice is that situation, Mid-range basketball becomes much more relevant. That's the playoffs. We're in regular season.

Come on. Well, I know. But that's why the NBA regular season aesthetically is not as appealing. It's just a three-point contest. Well, let's be real. The Knicks' Bulls game last night was off the charts. Bulls led by like 22. Nicks go on a huge run.

Nicks take the lead with four seconds left and then they end up losing. Carl Anthony Towns, by the way, 46. I mean, don't you love these point explosions? Well, we saw it last year. There were point explosions in their regular season. They do not happen in the postseason. Why do you keep talking about the playoffs? Like, come on, that's six months away.

But that's when people watch pro basketball. They watch it in the postseason because people play real defense. It becomes much more situational. The intensity goes through the roof. You know how Yonis is dropping 59? The pistons aren't going to be in the playoffs. You play, it's the best on the best and all those. If you score 40 in the playoffs, that's insane.

Guy score 50 now and you're like, yeah, they play the pistons. Nice job. Boy, this is a negative attitude. NBA less. I mean, it's not like, what, do you smoke at cigars and not watching NBA? Oh, I watch the Lakers. I get it. I'm just saying it's a reality of what's happened to the game.

Aesthetically, it's dunks in threes. And I think, just remember in the playoffs, nobody's scoring 60, and the game changes. The NBA's two sports, regular season, postseason. NFL is the same, but the intensity ratchets up. I mean, a playoff game feels different than week four, but it's the same game. But my favorite argument is like, oh, would you rather go back to 90s NBA when Michael Jordan was winning like 93-87 in a battle with 57 fouls? I think the pendulum has swung again too far to shooting threes. I think the aesthetics not as appealing.

That's why I love playoff basketball. I don't love regular season NBA basketball, if just threes. But I think in the playoffs, you need a bucket, you need to stop. That's why Kauai Leonard's always a great playoff guy when he's healthy. He's a great get a bucket, get a stop guy. Three-pointers, regular season. not available, I could take him or leave him. But in the playoffs, when he's healthy, not many better on-ball defenders, not many better mid-range

get-a-bucket guys than Kauai. So when he's healthy, he's a very good, he's a great playoff player. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd-line news. points. That's insane. This was the worst defense in the league. They've made one change Jim Harbaugh and a new staff. So it's funny too because he used to be so polarizing at Michigan. I felt like I was on an island supporting him. And now everybody loves him. He's having

so much fun. Here's 30 seconds this weekend of Jim Harbaugh against the Titans. I'm just pretending like I'm drawing a pass suit. Pretend like you're throwing a passie. If you go backside, I mean, I could.

Or the other side. Or the other side. Both sides. And they're going to go empty. Herbert rolling to the right. And here he goes. Herbert into the end zone. That's a beast.

Beast, Beast mode, baby. That Herbert, I mean, he's incredible strength to hold onto that ball. Right? Oh, yeah. Way to go, Beast! He's calling him Beast for now. He's a beast. Justin's a beast.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I love it. And it's just so much fun. And Jim's having so much fun. And his immediate success in San Francisco and the Chargers is proving two things. Number one, there's a lot of really mediocre head coaches in the NFL that are good coordinators like a Cliff Kingsbury.

But you put them to the top, to the president, you put them to the CEO level. And they're just, that's not what they do. I mean, you watch Sean Payton is in salary cap hell in Denver, has a very thin roster. salary has a rookie quarterback. Today, they're in the playoffs. Now, they won't end up there, but today they're a playoff team. Andy Reid has been working guys for seven years in Kansas City or however long he's been there. There's so much better than every team in the NFL. There's a lot of guys, Brian Flores, Cliff Kingsbury.

They're tremendous coordinators, but they get elevated to head coach, and guys like Harbaugh, Peyton, and Andy Reed, and Belichick and his prime are just working those guys. Adam Gase, coordinator, coach, disaster. Brandon Staley, coordinator, coach, disaster. But, you know, this sport wants to get the hot shot coach. So Jim Harbaugh, the second thing it proves, there's a lot of mediocre head coaches. The other thing it proves is Jim Harbaugh wins everywhere he goes very quickly. Okay.

And yet he's never copied. Why? Because it proves the most important thing about a great coach is authenticity. There's one Dan Campbell. there is one Tomlin, there is one Jim Harbaugh. There was one Pete Carroll chewing his gum at 70 years old, 8,000 miles an hour. There is one McVeigh, one Shanahan. You've got to be authentic.

You've got to be yourself. Players will sniff out a phony. And Jim can be a little different, but there's one Jim. Even his brother John doesn't feel like he's anything like Jim. And that's the key to Harbaugh. It's not schemes. He builds toughness, resilience, a culture. He is a man's man.

And that's really the key to all this. And so, you know, there's a lot of average head coaches. There's a lot of great coaches. Most of them aren't head coaches. And the number one trait, be yourself. That's why Belichick's guys all struggled. They were trying to be mini-bills. That's why, if you go look at all of Belichick's guys, they're trying to be

mini-Belichicks. Eric Mangini is one of the nicest guys I know. People didn't, you know, when he would have to bark, you know, some of that Belichick seeps into you over the course of 10 years. Of course you're going to duplicate a lot what Bill does and copy some of it. And so eventually, it's really hard to break away when you've worked under an unbelievable legendary coach. You're going to steal stuff, copy stuff. It's just going to seep into your personality. And a lot of these Belichick guys just didn't work or didn't.

or didn't work as well as they should have. So to thine own self, be true. And that is the magic with Jim Harbaugh. He was on our show last week. And I said to him, you look so happy. That's true. I mean, I think that is guilty as charged there. Very happy.

And we have a good time here. We work hard, but we have a good time doing it. And then our guys get dead serious about winning. on game day, you know, no question about that. And they, you know, they put their work in. It just, it just becomes infectious, you know. I love these guys. And there's no doubt, though.

Very tough spot for a rookie quarterback on short rest. We'll get to that in a second. We just talked about Harbaugh. And I do think they remind me. me of the Chiefs, coach, quarterback, pass rush, defense, little light on wide receivers, do people in the league think the chargers are for real? 100%. And it's all about Jim Harbaugh. I mean, this is the exact same roster, Colin, essentially as last year. And the results are totally different. Last year, they were basically

25th, 26, 27th in every defensive category. Now, to your point, they're number one in the NFL and defense. It's not only Jim Harbaugh, but it's bringing in Jesse Mentor, his defensive coordinator. It's bringing in Shane Day, who was gone for a year. Justin Herbert said to him before the season, this is the guy I need back in my corner. And I talked to Shane about two weeks ago. I said, what's the difference now? Previously,

he said, with Jim, there's a sense of empowerment. There's a sense of do your job. I will delegate to you. And I think Harbaugh, for all his great, all the great things he does, and he has wonderful traits as a head coach, delegating, he did it at San Diego, he did it at Stanford.

He certainly did it with the Niners and Michigan, he has the ego-list personality enough to say, you do your job, and I don't have to have my hands necessarily on every single thing. You've seen the development of Justin Herbert. You've seen the defense, and obviously they're six to three firmly in the playoff. What is the ceiling for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are 3-0 with Russell Wilson, and his passer rating is 106, six touchdowns, one pick? What's the ceiling? I just love this football team, and I love them because it's old. school football with a new twist. It's Russell Wilson diet. It's the Seahawks version of him,

but maybe not as much of the read option. And when they went three weeks ago and they decided Colin, they were going to move on from Justin Fields. I was the first one that said, I think it's a mistake. I don't love this move. They were four and two. It looked like they were in a good position, but Russell Wilson has taken them to a new level. And I go back to the conversation he had with Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh one-on-one. They spent multiple hours together. And they really bonded. And I think That's when Russell Wilson became the future of this franchise, at least this season. Because Mike Tomlin has always said, if you're a starter, you cannot lose your job if you get injured. They bring Russell Wilson back.

You see that moonball. You see Mike Williams. You see George Pickens, the connection, how accurate he's been. And then also, they remind me in some ways of the Lions where if you look at teams after they play Pittsburgh, there is a level down effect the next week. That's Pittsburgh. That's what they want to do. They're so physical defensively.

And it also reminds me of something that Richard Sherman told me once where he said, with Seattle, we used to tell Russ, just get us to 14, get us to 17, we'll do the rest. That's the sense I get now with this defense, which really to me is the most efficient across the league. Coaching hot seat, a bit of a mess in Chicago. Mike McCarthy, it looks like they could be in a soft tank. Doug Peterson's in trouble. So Saul is already gone. We know that.

that was the first one to go. And let's just talk coaching hot seat. We can start with Iber Fluse. Yeah, I think with Iber Fluse, remember last year it felt like he might not survive. They end up turning it around. That's what Brian Dayball hopes to do, by the way, with New York. Had that second half surge to maybe have success and keep his job. And I think he's okay.

But in Iber Fluss's case, this offense last year was 20th in the NFL. Now they're 30th. So they fire Shane Waldron, who was a questionable hire. They spent hours with Cliff Kingsbury in L.A. They could have had them in their building. They go with Waldron. You see the issues they had. They had to see how Getsy last year.

So when you fire an O.C. in season, it gives you some time, Colin. It gives you a few weeks. But the offense to me is in such disarray. And Caleb is not the same quarterback he was a month ago. Because a month ago, he was really efficient. He was accurate. He was in the pocket. Now it looks like a total mess.

You have players like DJ Moore star players saying, I don't really know what's going on here. Eber Fluse is in a really tough position because if he's going to turn it around, it's going to have to come to the offensive side. They have not had any success on that side of the ball in a month. And I just don't know what's going to change by switching your offensive coordinator.

So I think Chicago, for him to keep his job, has to make the playoffs. And I don't really see a path for that, considering they have the hardest schedule left in the NFL. How about McCarthy? So Jerry Jones has only fired a head coach once in season. One time. It was Jason Garrett about a decade and a half ago.

And it was hard for him because he was like a member of the family. Absolutely. And he always said, I never wanted to do that. I almost regretted it. So to fire Mike McCarthy in season at 3 and 6, I don't really see that. But I do see a team that even before DAC was lost for the season was completely rudderless. I see an owner in Jerry Jones who seems to be very emotional with some of of his decision making in the draft, some of the moves he's made.

But with his head coach, that's the one thing he's stuck out. So I don't really know what he's thinking, Jerry Jones. I don't think anybody does. But if I am the Dallas Cowboys, and I want to be serious about winning, which they haven't been for decades, you need to really take a look in the eye and look in the mirror and evaluate who you are and who you're not. You're not a good football team.

You're not a move or two away. So forget the three straight 12-win seasons, Colin. Throw that out the window. You got embarrassed by Green Bay in the play. at home. You brought in Mike Zimmer. They had the worst defense in the league after having a top 10 defense three years in row with Dan Quinn. So I'm very concerned about Mike McCarthy, but I'm more concerned about the actual face of the franchise than Jerry Jones.

Winner tonight, Eagles at Home Against Commanders. Do they win the NFC East? I like the Eagles at home. I think they do win the division. But to me, the bigger thing here is Jaden Daniels and how Washington has mirrored many of the same things that Philadelphia did. in terms of mobile quarterback, and not only that, an accurate quarterback who you can build the franchise around, you saw Jalen Hertz get that big deal. Jaden Daniels is eventually going to be the highest-paid quarterback in the league. You have to imagine three years down the road.

But bigger than that, it's the picture of Dan Quinn, stable head coach, good coordinators, and then you go to the GM, Adam Peters, and then you go to the owner, Josh Harris. The Eagles did that with Sariani to a degree, Hallie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie. So I think Dan Quinn to me is one of the biggest stories in the NFL because he gets fired by Atlanta. He leaves Dallas and now he's reinvented himself. There was a great story to Dan N. ESPN about how he reinvented himself. And I did a story on Dan Quinn seven years ago and I asked him, what's your biggest philosophy in coaching? He said, I want to empower players.

I want to create relationships. But he's also reinvented himself realizing that the formula he had in Atlanta wasn't working anymore. So he went back to the drawing board. He met with Terry Francona. with the former manager of the Boston Red Sox. They were down 3-0. They ended up beating the Yankees. He's adopted a new formula.

I think he's realized it's important to delegate more, and obviously they've had great success. Yeah, we talked about that as a topic earlier. Dan Campbell's a delegator. Siriani, at his best, is more delegator when he meddles with Kellynne Moore, did early this season. When he meddled with Shane Steichen, it didn't work. And Jimmy Johnson was more of a walk-around guy.

Pete Carroll was. I mean, there's a lot of videos on the internet of Belichick with a whistle around practice. Just coming in, especially on defense, having an opinion.
