than us. It is a Wednesday, Joel Clatinan hour. Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. Not going to roll the sleeves up for another hour. Because this is such an easy lift

this time of the year. There's so many things to talk about, Jay Mack. Tomorrow, the NFL season starts. And it's not just that. It's just not a game. It's Mahomes. It's Lamar. It's Baltimore.

It's Kansas City. Heavyweight fight that's been one-sided so far. I'm already sick of the Chiefs. Travis, Kelsey, Taylor Swift, Patrick Bowens. Can we be done with these guys? Goodness. Well, let's talk about tomorrow's NFL start, because it's fascinating and it's been one-sided,

and it probably shouldn't be. I've argued before. I think Baltimore may be the best-run organization in the sport. And if they're not, it's Kansas City. Two great coaches, two great owners, excellent executives, usually excellent coordinators and defenses. The difference has been Mahomes and Lamar. And it's not just that Mahomes is better than Lamar. Mahomes is better than everybody in the last 20 years not named Tom Brady.

It's that Lamar falls off a cliff against Kansas City. And you know I love Lamar. I've been saying this forever. This is a Hall of Famer. but when these two meet head-to-head, Lamar can't complete 56% of his throws. His passer rating is like CFL. And this is one of the most gifted quarterbacks I've ever seen in my life. What the hell happens?

So clearly this rivalry, it's not about the coaches, not about the owners, not about the draft picks, not about the defense. It's been about Lamar, regressing. Why? So let's start with this. Mahomes is a better player. Okay, he's better than everybody. He's better than everybody not named Brady in the last two decades. He'd better than everybody.

But why is he falling off a cliff? And let me theorize why I believe this to be. So Lamar Jackson is 20 and 1. That doesn't even make sense against the NFC. And I mean he's blown the doors off teams like good Detroit, San Francisco. He's 20 and 1 against the NFC. Why? Because if you don't face Lamar Jackson regularly,

it's like growing up in San Diego and trying to drive on ice. You can read a manual. It's not going to work. You've got to be on ice, driving on that ice in Milwaukee and Minnesota for years to figure it out. That hyper speed is like nothing we've seen. It's like Michael Vic, but way faster, way twitchier. It's like being a parent. Your grandparents give you a heads up, your neighbors, your friends.

Yet Dr. Spock didn't give you heads up on the smells of it. And so if you've never faced Lamar or face him infrequently, there's nothing like him. You have nobody on your roster to duplicate him. But if you face him regularly, I had a GM tell me this years ago, you get him a second time in a season, and Steve Spagnola now faces him on a fairly regular basis. You can have game plan for him. But you couldn't game plan for Brady, and you can't game plan for Mahomes.

Because what makes Brady and Mahomes so brilliant, you took away the deep ball from Mahomes. He's like, okay, death by a thousand cuts. You took away Randy Moss from Brady. Okay, it's death by a thousand cuts. is that both Mahomes and Brady have a second pitch, a third pitch, a fourth pitch. And that's why they're two greatest quarterbacks, in my opinion, of all time. Nolan Ryan had a great fastball. And if it was humming, we may get a no-hitter.

But he won 52% of his games. Clayton Kershaw didn't throw that hard. He went over 60, right? And didn't have all the no-hitters. And so I think what Lamar is developing, and I've always, said he's a better passer than he gets credit for. I watch the games, you watch the games.

It's not a liability. But Brady and Mahomes have mastered the pocket to a level that, I mean, there's only a couple of people like a Peyton Manning, a Marino, and Elway that even rival it. And Aaron Rogers or Marino. I mean, there's just a handful of guys ever that have rivaled it.

And so that's what's fascinating about Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. It's not that Mahomes is winning, it's that Lamar falls off a cliff and it does appear. I'm not saying Lamar's Nolan Ryan, but it does kind of feel like if Lamar's run game is implemented and Humman lights out. If you can slow that down, if you're hitting a fastball, it doesn't feel quite the same. And I think that's been the secret sauce for Kansas City is the frequency in which they see him.

Right? the frequency. There's a bit of a game plan. There is no game plan for Brady. There is no game plan for Mahomes. There is none. He may not run the entire game. Fourth quarter, bad wheels, takes off 45 yards. There's no game plan for him. And that's why it keeps both of them. Brady, Mahomes, keep hoisting trophies. All right. Caleb Williams so fascinating I'm looking at all these one o'clock game Sunday tightened bears I'm locked I may not even go red zone I may just turn that thing on and watch every play like it is fantastic and what makes Chicago so fascinating is that they've done

virtually no it's not virtually they've done the impossible in the NFL They've never had a great quarterback ever for an extended period. The chargers! The chargers! They're chargering! They've had rivers.

They got Herbert. They had Breeze. They had fouts. Niners have had four or five. Packers have had four or five. Eagles have had three or four or five. Bears none. Never had a single quarterback.

Ever throw for over 4,000 yards. That's like being a casino and never making money. People go to your casino and give you money. The casino always wins. 100 years running a casino. Yeah, we never made a profit. How do you not have one quarterback ever that's thrown for 4,000 yards? They don't have a quarterback that's ever thrown for over 30 touchdowns.

Even Blake Bortles did that in Jacksonville. What the hell's going on with Chicago? Well, it's the weather. No, it's not because Green Bay and Buffalo had it all the time. What it is, it's cultural. It's systemic. And I'll give you an example. So when they hired a coach years ago, is the league's pivoting to offense,

The rules are all offense. The oldest owner in the NFL, Mrs. McCasky, who does she rely on? Bill Pollyan, 80 years old. I love Bill. I know Bill. But Bill, old school, let's go with a defensive coach. Jeffrey Lurie, very produced a lot of movies in Hollywood. Jeffrey Lurie, if you look at his businesses, always on the cutting edge, he just keeps hiring offensive coaches.

Getting quarterbacks, offensive coaches. mobile quarterbacks, offensive coaches. You look at staying cronkey. Again, L.A., a lot of business, cutting edge of stuff. Let's go hire Sean McVeigh. 30 years old. Less need.

Young GM. They're constantly moving. They're kind of progressive creators, Jeffrey Lurie, Stan Cronky, always trying new stuff, but they have their values, they have their formulas like everybody else. So to win in Chicago,

isn't just about being really talented. Caleb Williams, and it's unfair, will have to be transformational. Because the oldest owner, they're still celebrating the 1985 Chicago Bears. The Bears have done virtually the impossible. They're a casino that doesn't make money. How in the world can you not one time have quarterback throw for 35 touchdowns? All the rules have changed. how

you do it when you're clinging to the past you do it when you celebrate a team from 1985 that's what Caleb Williams will have to overcome moratorium on celebrating the 85 bears

it's enough it's great let's move past that I mean the Rams aren't even celebrating their title team from two years three years ago in LA Like they moved on from Aaron Donald. They moved on. They don't talk about it. It's the next thing.

So good luck to Caleb Williams. He's going to need it. Because it is incredible. When you look at this league, you know, sometimes you think, you know, all these billionaire owners is not the way it works. It's not even with coaches, GMs, quarterbacks, or owners, or ownership groups. it's not even. I don't care if it's fair. They may all be billionaires.

They're different. And Chicago's been like different on the bad side of it. All right, Jay Mack. Joel Klatt one hour. Steve Sarkeesian stops by today. The Pittsburgh Steelers spending more money on defense. Tell me if you've heard that before. The Niners did something.

Do you see what the Niners did? I don't think so locked in on the Jets. I think I missed the Niners. Oh, freeing up the cap space. Is that what you're talking about? Yeah. Okay. Yeah.

It's funny how the smart people figure out ways to find money. A little easier to do that with Brock Purdy making like $800,000. Oh, but they've had all these great players pre-Brock Purdy. Why do they keep being able to afford all these great players? That should be the Dallas model, huh? Why can Dallas not have as many players, and the Niners have like nine pro bowlers, and they're paying all of them? They're paying all of them.

And they're going to continue to pay all of them. Why is that? We'll talk about that coming up. academically in football, they feel like the right fit. Nine of ten and Notre Dame, which is in the Midwest and is a big brand and should be a Big Ten school. And if I had to fit two more teams in here, in my opinion, from what I've seen, it would be USC in Tennessee, a Big Ten and an SEC team. You can alter and change college football. Transfer Portal, NIL, conference realignment, disband the PAC 12, folks, you can change the tax system.

Rich people are going to stay rich. You can occupy Wall Street forever. Berkshire Hathaway, Black Rock will be at the top. The only college football program that has entered the national championship discussion on a regular basis in the last 50 years, Oregon, because of a brilliant man named Phil Knight, his company Nike, and their vision. I watched them map it out when I worked there. That's it.

TCU was interesting for a moment. Boise State will get an occasional upset. But come on now. It's the same big dogs. And if you think in a 12-team playoff, a Liberty of Boise State of Houston can line up four times against the big dogs. It's not going to happen. You don't have the dogs for this iditarod.

It's March Madness. We've seen it before. And March Madness, it's much more popular. You only have five starting players. If you have a great NBA talent, you can win multiple games. Colin, what about Gonzaga? Well, Gonzaga is a Blue Blood, and they still don't have a title. But they're a Blue Blood.

They got three or four NBA guys every class. They've got NBA dudes everywhere. And for the record, they still don't have a title. So in March Madness, it is dominated by the Blue Bloods. And college football, with all those NFL bodies, in no way a liberty, even a Utah, which is a great program, lining up week after week, after week, after week, four times, three maybe, probably four times to win a natty, not going to happen. So people are paralyzed by it, but, you know, you can convince me that NFTs of the future, now it's stocks, it's equities, it's bonds, it's cash, it's real estate. You can sell me on all this stuff. it's the same teams

Bama, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, USC now has the right, every time USC's got the right coach, they're battling for natties, Oregon and Phil Knights money, Penn State, LSU, it's the same teams. Don't fear change.

If you don't love change, college football for most of my life didn't provide much change. But now in the last three years it's been nothing but change. And it's the same teams in your top 10. J-Mac with the news.

No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, let's start with the NFL that Brandon Ayuk contract saga obviously ended four years, $120 million deal. He's tied with Tyree Kill and Amarrah, St. Brown, is the fourth highest paid receiver in the NFL. But Ayuk took to the podium yesterday and actually made a bit of a revelation about the process. Here he is. I'm not going to lie, I made a little bit more difficult than it needed to at the end.

But, yeah, I mean, it was like that from me, from, I'm not going to say the whole entire time, but for about the past month, I think we were pretty good. I just had a feel for what I wanted, not just in terms of money, but in all those teams that you said. And ultimately, I wanted to be here. And I ended up being here. So I'm happy. I'm good. I'm happy.

I'm ready to go. Yeah, he makes a lot of money. and they continue to be able Wanted to be here? Really? Well, no, I think he did. The deal was on the table for two and a half weeks.

He didn't sign it. Well, time out. Doesn't a player have a right to push back on ownership? Yeah, but he did push back and they said, we're not budging. He signed the deal that was out there for two and a half weeks.

It was like he didn't want to practice or go to camp. But he has a right. He can. Is that a good look? Well, he doesn't care about the look. What about his teammates? It's not an individual thing.

Is it a team sport? He signed with 10 days to go. You want to be here? You want to get on board with everyone else? You just don't want to work out. Starters no longer play in the preseason. Let's slow down on that. This is not 1988.

They've taken a preseason game away, and starters no longer play. How about practice? You want to join practice? Do you think he forgot how to catch a football? I think he just showed very. Listen. I didn't like how this saga ended. I don't think the Niners did either.

It does feel like we're getting this sort of conveyor belt of wide receipts. receiver drama, which has always been the drama position in the league. But I do think it's okay to push back a little bit. I mean, I think, again, he didn't do this in week four. He didn't do this at the trade deadline. This is the offseason. He's a very productive player. I mean, Jamar Chase is doing the same thing.

This is a guy, again, it's not, remember, this is not like a left tackle. Like Trent Williams, by the way, I worry about some of the mechanics of being left tackle because that's part of a cohesive unit. Brandon Ayuk's job is to run routes, run fast, and get open and catch. You can hold out a while for that. There are positions I don't want holdout. Quarterback, left tackle. What about edge rusher?

What do you think about that? Again, I'd like an edge rusher in camp. When it comes to running backs, corners wide receiver, those are like hyper-athletic positions where guys don't forget how to backpedal or catch or find the hole. I'm going to let a running back or receiver a corner fight to the end on the contract. I want my quarterback and my left tackle. I want those dudes in camp. Okay, so the problem is Bosa remember did this thing last year.

And he's on record as saying, like, I wasn't myself because I didn't have the usual August. It took me like a third, two-thirds of the season, half the season to get up the speed. Okay, that's fair. That's not great, Colin. It's not great. But this is also San Francisco where they've got Debo and Jennings and Kittle and McCaffrey and drafted two receivers. This is not a team that is dependent. Like Trent Williams, they're dependent on.

That one is uncomfortable. Brandon Iyuk showing up late. Let's say Brandon isn't big in week one. You'll catch up the speed very quickly. The other problem is his replacement, if you will, Pierceaw got shot. Yeah. And so he's not going to be able to go.

So who's the stretch to the field guy? You don't need to play the two high safeties against the Niners if there's no Brandon Iyuk. You can kind of clog the box to protect McCaffrey and Debo. I think it's a low-scoring game. I think the Niners Jets, if I could bet any part of that game and feel good about it, it would be the under. I like the under.

I think it's a played between the 20s game. I think the Trent and the Iuke and the Pearsall stories. I think the offense is Christian McCaffrey hasn't played. So my guess is, and you're not going to score a lot of points on the Jets anyway. And I don't think the Jets offense, I mean, Aaron's often as surgery. That offensive line could be very good for the Jets. Probably not going to be great week one because old guys don't play in the preseason. I think Jets Niners is, it feels very 24, 23, very close, very.

very low scoring. It feels like it might be a 90s kind of game with some really hard-hitting defensive. I don't see 3330. That's Jacksonville, Miami. I think this is physical. It's a classic game. But I mean, these have been noisy teams. And I think they're going to come in both. They're going to be like heavyweight fighters feeling each other out for about a quarter until it gets going. But I don't see a lot of points. Who has the edge in Sala Shanahan? They were on the same staff together is super close. Shanahan. No, no, from this perspective, Shanahan knows what Salah's going to do,

or Salah knows all the best stuff that Shanahan does? Offensive guys usually have the advantage in week one because they have an entire offseason to create new stuff. I mean, we know what Salah does. It's on tape. Shanahan, Andy Reed, Peyton, McVeigh, those guys come out week one with tricks that you don't see. Remember last year in the opener?

Veteran coach Pete Carroll comes in. Rams had a whole new run game, run scheme. the Seahawks were completely, Pete Carroll's a great defensive coach. They were caught flat-footed. And so I always give the advantage to the offensive coaches in September. Then as the season wears on, you know, there's injuries. You got more film on young quarterbacks. Then the matchups don't feel as lopsided.

Next up, Stefan Diggs is with the Texans. Remember he left the bills this offseason. And he talked to GQ, GQ magazine. And GQ said in talking to Diggs, Stefan Diggs, I was in the worst mental space I've been in since I've been in the league. He's talking about that in Buffalo, and that's what led him to wanting out. So, Stefan Diggs, in a terrible mental space, and the Houston Texans just said, come on down, we'll take you.

This Texans Colts game's very interesting. I don't know what to make a Diggs because they have a fleet of receivers now. Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Dalton Shultz, they picked up Joe Mixon. I just wonder, is Diggs going to be able to get out of that? that mental space if he's not getting the ball, because I don't know if he's going to. Well, I think Diggs in Minnesota and Diggs in Buffalo was the piece to extend the offense. I think he's a peace in Houston. And so I think you have to have a different mindset.

I think Stefan is going to be at practice and realize very quickly. We've got dudes everywhere here. So I don't think, I think he's fine. In fact, I've said this about Stefan Diggs. He doesn't blow up every year. He goes to a place, and by the end of year, three, he gets a little chirpy, but I'd love him on my team. And I think Houston has a chance to be a Super Bowl team. I mean, I really do think Houston's really good. So my take is he's

going to be a difference to Fawn Diggs, and I think he's going to realize it very quickly. You're not going to get 120 catches here. They got too many dudes. But in Minnesota and Buffalo, he was essential. He was the target of note on a third down. So if he didn't get it, he's like, dude, I'm the guy. I think he's going to view it differently in Houston. I like your optimism. Texans, two and a half at the Colts. I fired on this game this morning. I like Houston. You're very high on the Colts.

We'll talk about it. We'll save it for Friday. To tease the audience. Here's that Texan schedule. Colts, Bears, Vikings. I am taking Blazing Five under consideration. Oh, he's back, baby. Yes.

No, time out. I'm not back. I said, I'm taking it under consideration. That makes you're back. It's like when the kids ask for ice cream for breakfast. And I say no for six months. Then I go, well, we're on vacation. I'll consider it tomorrow.

Okay, what changed your mind? You've already leapt to. We're getting, we're getting, you know, mint chocolate chip tomorrow at 7 a.m. What change your mind? I'm taking. I saw a number last night. So listen, I know I'm not going to have a winning week. I know I'm not.

Stop with the negative mentality. 20 years. I'm one in 19 opening week. Stop it. Come on. But I do think this is important. The staff is all, you know, there's a, a, Behind the scenes,

like three questions this morning. What are we doing on Friday? Oh, I like what they're doing. Dad, when are we going to get home? And so I have to come to a conclusion. So I'm going to look at some numbers. I saw something last night. I already gave you a couple.

The final story, a team you will not be backing is the New York Giants. Colin, they play the Vikings this weekend. Anyways, they were going to draft a quarterback in the offseason. It ended up taking Malik neighbors, the electric receiver, with their first round pick, and they kept Daniel Jones. Clearly, New York is not in love with Jones, and in last night's season finale of hard knocks, Joe Shane and Ryan Poles had this interaction while watching Georgia's Carson Beck. it stays away for a long time. Daniel Jones, I mean, they're not even hiding it now.

They're contempt for him. But the Giants are just like every meeting, it's like, who must be nice. We're not happy. I mean, it's everybody in the building knows it. But here's my take. Is that if Daniel Jones can't handle that, then get over it.

You're not the guy. Like, you've got to just deal with criticism at this position. If you can't handle it, if guys like me and commentators are bothering you and stuff on hard knocks is, bothering you, you're not built for this. You're not built for it. I do wonder, is there any way he could save his job with neighbors? Neighbors has looked awesome. I got him in fantasy. This guy is going to produce. Ask yourself this. If Caleb and Jaden Daniels, forget Daniel Jones, if they

look really good and you're the Giants, and you're like, oh, here's two more guys that are better than my guy. Because Bo Nix is going to succeed. I'm not saying he's going to win a bunch of games, Bo Nix is going to be productive. If Caleb and Jaden Daniels are productive, that's three more guys. So I think a lot of what the Giants is, and this is just, it's funny that you get into these conversations, like you can keep talking yourselves into stuff in life.

This is good enough and that's good enough. Well, is it really? Ask yourself all the time. Keep asking yourself a question about everything in your life. Is it good enough? And if the answer is consistently yes, then your standards aren't very high. Because most things don't last.

Even in the stock market, go back 30 years, 90% of the companies now here weren't there. Things change. It's very rare when you go, Mahomes, Allen, Brady, Manning, Breeze. Those guys you can count, you know, that's about 20 guys all time that are like that. Other than that, on average, you should always be thinking about what we're going to do at quarterback over the next three years. Very rarely do you get a Peyton Manning and you're like, we're baked in for 30. 13 years. Like Houston right now.

Houston's like, we got our guy. Even Joe Burrow, I love him. One more injury? I mean, next year for Cincinnati? Well, I'm looking. He's got a big contract, Burrow does now. But like, yeah, it's not the worst thing in the world to keep drafting quarterbacks. Like, right?

I mean, the Giants should have a plan. It doesn't seem like they do. Joe Shane, I don't have a ton of confidence. But once you find something that works, you got to ride it. Like you said, G.J. Stroud, that's the guy. Bryce Young, we don't know. Although I think I know Bryce Young's going to be good this year Oh, good, oh boy.

You're not feeling that? Well, I'd be fine. Better than Daniel Jones. You know the gentleman's wager on that? No, I think Bryce will do better. I still think Bryce is good. I have not bailed on Bryce. He's not CJ Stroud, but I think he's going to be a good player.

Can be good. Yeah, can be good. But everybody sold their stock last year, and it's like, that was the worst receiving core in the league. One of my buddies does a write-up, and he said, go look at Jared Goff's first season. How bad. He was awful.

He looked like, oh, my gosh. He's a total bus. And Bryce Young's got mobility. He can move. Well, what happened? Jared Goff got a real coach. No disrespect to Fisher. But he got McVeigh.

And it's like, oh my gosh, Jared Goff, this guy's really good. So now Bryce Young gets Canales and let's see what happens in Carolina. J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. on defense and all the fanboys came out. Colin, that's because many of our offensive players haven't gotten paid yet. They're very young. I said that three years ago. Three years ago I said that. The Steelers just spent

$45 million more dollars on a defensive player and the story out of Pittsburgh to have another offensive lineman hurt who will miss week one. at this point, Pittsburgh's delusional with this whole offensive and defensive spending. I'm serious here. Here's the most money spent on defense in the NFL this year. Oh, shocker.

The Steelers by a mile. By a mile. You ever had a buddy? He's got a third watch. He just bought another set of golf clubs and a third car, and he's complaining his kids. isn't in a good enough school district? Look in the mirror. How are you spending your money?

The Steelers don't spend any money on offense. Third year in a row, the Steelers lead the NFL in defensive spending. You can keep making excuses, but I'm watching your spending. A third watch. You keep doing these things and then complaining, you know, our offense isn't good enough. You're not spending money on it. So it'll also be the second time in two out of the last three years that the Steelers are spending the least in the league on offense. So, you know, at this point with Mike Tomlin, you can keep making excuses in Pittsburgh.

But today, the story is, oh, what do you know? And I, by the way, I like this player. I like this player a lot. But they signed Cameron Hayward, $45 million three-year deal. And he's a good player. But you can't keep complaining about and defending Tomlin and complaining about the results. I'm watching your spending. I'm watching what you're spending on.

You didn't need another Land Rover. Defense is good enough. Your pass rush is good enough. That's fine. You do that well. You've been doing that well forever. Can't get the old line right. Not productive enough, though you're talented enough at tight end and wide receiver.

So I'm just looking at this. Most money spent on defense in the NFL. by a mile Pittsburgh at 147 million. Next is the Packers. And by the way, the Packers do spend on offense, but they truly are the youngest offense in the league, and they're going to pay for all these guys. Jordan loves contract, he'll kick in,

Christian Watson, Romeo Dobbs, their offensive line. Green Bay spends money on offense. So they really are, as they moved off Aaron Rogers and some other players left tackle. Green Bay will be out of this space very, very quickly. It's not a surprise. the least money spent on offense.

Titans number one. Well, it stinks. What do you know? You get what you pay for. And because it is a salary cap league, although you can play around with the money, you don't spend any money on offense. Pittsburgh and Tennessee,

this is why you're a BB gun. Defensees are good. Your pass rushes are good. But here's Mike Tomlin this week on the Steelers' New Look offense. Where do you see this offense? Does he believe it has more firepower than it did in the last few years? I'm not interested in making you comfortable today, to be quite honest with you.

Those are just words, and really at the end of the day is somewhat meaningless. We'll have an opportunity to put some tape out there this weekend that's kind of reflective of that discussion. I'm more of a doer than a talker. Talking glowingly, particularly when you're undefeated this time of year is easy, and I'm not attracted to easy. he still remains the best soundbite in the history of the NFL by far and nobody even close and I like Mike but God you just keep telling me well well we're going to spend an offense when these draft picks come up for contract and you keep spending money on the other side the league is pivoted

and I'll tell you this one of the reasons I like the Rams is last year second year in a row the Rams in the top of the draft all defensive guys so don't know have to pay him. They're spending money on Cooper Cup and Matt Stafford and note boom the tackle and Havenstein the tackle. Right. And eventually Pooka Nuku is going to get his bag. But if you look, Tyler Higbee, the tight end makes good money. So the Rams, they're spending money on offense and drafting top draft picks on defense so they keep the defense chief. This is what the Kansas City chiefs have been doing. The chiefs have been brilliant at this.

They're going to pay Travis Kelsey. They're going to pay Mahomes. They pay Joe Tunney. They pay for offensive tackles. Kansas City are going to spend some money. They'll spend it on Chris Jones, but mostly they moved off Sneed, the great corner. They'll just keep drafting and keep that defense young and fresh. Keep the defense young, cheap, and fresh, with the exception of a Max Crosby, a Chris Jones and Aaron Donald in his prime.

You've got a great front four guy. You pay them. you can motor through linebackers and safeties and most corners. How many lockdown corners we have in the league? Last year, Sauce Gardner Patrick Sertan. Are they winning games for teams? Now, pass rushers can win games. Dominant defensive linemen can win Super Bowls.

and also while you're at it pay for your own stadiums Stan Cronkey had a 2.5 billion and that's minimum some say it's more $2.5 billion cost overrun on SOFi he kept saying

make it better he kept paying the bills and you know what didn't ask taxpayers to pay that 2.5 billion he did it himself he's a billionaire I think he's America's largest residential and perhaps commercial

real estate owner. You've got plenty of money. And owners convert more of the base salaries into signing bonuses. You're all billionaires. I don't want to hear about it. You ever notice this? Fans I think believe that because of the salary cap, it's just

even. No, it's not. There's a reason the Raiders in Arizona are perpetually lousy upstairs. It's the billionaires, not the players. We blame the players, and we fire the coaches. It's the owners. And there's a reason the Rams and the Eagles and the Niners with very aggressive and progressive and wealthy owners

are always good. They do this. You ever think about that? Think about how many. It's insane. How many great players the Niners have? Nine Pro Bowlers are paying all of them. McCaffrey, Iuke, Kittle, Trent, Boso, Warner, these guys make them 30, 27, 18.

Well, they're not paying Brock Purdy. Well, Carolina is not paying Bryce. where are they're great players. A lot of teams not pay, where are they great players? I'm seeing Houston not paying C.J. Stroud go by Stefan Diggs and Joe Mixing. I'm seeing what Houston's doing.

Houston, Domingo Ryan's, Nick Casario, really sharp dudes. I'm seeing what they're doing. They're going buying good players. They're buying productive dudes. Laramie Tonsel's getting money. Stavon Diggs getting money. Joe Mixing getting money.

They're paying their dudes. C.J. Stroud not getting paid yet. So you look around this league and you look at a lot of these young quarterbacks. Where are the dudes? Where are the dudes in New England? Who are they paying? They're paying nobody. So, you know, San Francisco and people say, well, once they pay Brock Purdy, they'll convert more of the contracts.

Now, I do think they'll probably move off one of their two excellent linebackers. They may move off a safety or a corner, you know, a right guard. I'm not saying you don't have to move some of the pieces. I'm not saying it's easy. but you know pay for your own stadiums convert this stuff into signing bonuses now David Tepper has all sorts of money in Carolina but he's too impulsive and doesn't know how to spend it so that culture down there in Carolina hopefully it gets fixed right now it's broken but and I you know what's

interesting about this is Green Bay you say what about Green Bay well Green Bay proves because they're always good that unless you have a great owner and there's about eight of them you're better off not having an owner doesn't get in the way my time my time take is there's eight to nine great owners, and then a lot of them just get in the way. Green Bay is like, hey, we don't have a great one, but we don't have a bad one. And we can function at a very high level. Mark Murphy's one of the smartest guys in the league running their organization.

So, but San Francisco's lineup, Philadelphia is the same thing. You ever look at how many great players Philadelphia has? I mean, you could build literally, if you took the Eagles and the Niners and just said, we're going to build a Pro Bowl team off those two teams, you could play with any anybody in the league. Now, you may not beat the team that has Mahomes at quarterback, but you could play with anybody in the league off two rosters. Why? Smart owners, aggressive owners, willing to write checks, willing to convert base salary into signing bonuses. I don't want here. I don't want to hear about, it's a little tight on the cap. Some of these organizations

historically have been cheap paying coaches, which is crazy. If you got the quarterback and coach right in the league, I mean, that was one of the great signs about Denver when they got the new owners. They're like ponied up the dough for a coach. A lot of these organizations for years wouldn't spend money on a coach. Like, what are you doing? Coach quarterback is 60, 70% of the league. All right, Joel Klatz around the corner. Tom Brady was on the show yesterday.

Things are going well. Do you see the legal gambling on NFL games this year? Legal gambling will reach $35 billion. $35 million? Bill. Oh, Bill, B, B. Okay. So all the do-gooders and the precious people out.

there. It's over. You're not, you lost. It's like being anti-sports gambling is like being anti-gay marriage or anti-cannabis. You lost. You look silly. Stop fighting it. The league wants it. The players have a rev share. They get paid. Everybody getting paid on it. It's over. The cannabis, the anti-canamus crowd, you lost. Gay marriage, it's here. It's not going backwards. Get over it. Gambling, do-gooders. Stop being precious. Some of you in the sports media. Well, we don't ban bagels because of obesity. We don't ban tequila because of alcoholism. And we don't ban Maseratis because of car accidents.

At some point, we all have to be responsible for our decisions and choices. People can get hurt. The average sports wager in this country is $4. You just got to hope all those gamblers are listening to the right people, you know? Or if there's a lot of people out there who are no idea what they're telling them. Or they're just, it's, I like gambling on football. I think it's fun. it makes the game's more fun.

And ratings indicate people are willing to watch blowouts longer. That's indisputable. Everybody's so all the stigma. There's no stigma of sports gambling. It's here. It's in Europe. It's here.
