Now we do our show, broadcasting live from Media Row. Like I said, have our crew back at the tire rack.com studio. Tirec.com will help you get there, an unmatched selection, fast-free shipping, free road hazard protection,
Starting point is 00:03:26 over 10,000 recommended installers. Tirec.com, the way tire buying should be. Tyrek. And I've already seen the clips up if you want to go to the Fox Sports Radio YouTube page, our social media at Covino Enrich. Lots of cool clips from earlier today. We caught up with Pooka and McCua, my dude Fred Warner, Vince Wilfork. So a lot of fun so far today.
Starting point is 00:03:49 At Radio Row. And yesterday, Paige Sparantic and Kurt Schilling. If you missed anything, just search Covino and Rich wherever you stream your podcast. Follow rate and review. And again, follow our New Orleans Adventures at Covino. Vino and Rich and at Fox Sports Radio. Now, later today, again, you never know who's going to stop by. I heard that Malcolm Butler of the Patriot Super Bowl champion, two-time Super Bowl champion.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Yeah, buddy. Stopping by to say what's up. And, of course, it's Wednesday. So going to turn your hump day into a hump night. If we have time, some midweek major, the biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture. But a few rando observations out here as the buzz gets thicker at Radio Row. As we see athletes, celebrities and people just walk on by. It's cool to bump into familiar faces.
Starting point is 00:04:33 I just saw presidential candidate. And I say that because it's a true story. Stephen A. Smith walked by with an entourage like he was already running for president. That's a story today. God bless you and God bless this country. Yeah. The only entourage I've seen just as big, if not a little bigger today, was Shannon Sharp when he walked past us. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I saw him walking by too. So, yeah, everybody who's anybody's here. And if you can't make it into the room where it happens, We bring the fun to you. That's why we're here. No doubt. Some good parties last night. We're going to go to Collins party tonight.
Starting point is 00:05:07 We'll report back Marniana and let you know how that is. Stars. Some other random observations. I got to start off with this one. Stars. Out here in New Orleans, there is a lot of security, right? We appreciate that and props to people keeping us safe. But Rich is fixated.
Starting point is 00:05:23 He said it about five, 15, 16 times already. What do you think of the Mountie Heads? observation number one My question is We're really leading with this I just got to ask Do you lose respect or Does it command respect?
Starting point is 00:05:38 I don't know because the New Orleans Police Department Doing their thing Thank you Not mocking, just saying They got that bow-winkle Mouty hat Like it's almost cartoonish
Starting point is 00:05:49 And I don't know if it garneres more respect Or if it's funny I think you're talking Dudley do right I think that's where you're getting that Yeah They got on the full-on uniform and it's kind of intimidating, but they all walk around with their hats, man.
Starting point is 00:06:02 It's a presence. I'm leaning towards commands respect. Rich is like, I lose respect. It looks goofy. No, no. So, again, just throwing out there, even though we're still giving props because we do appreciate it
Starting point is 00:06:13 because they're the first people we're going to if there's a problem. Let's be fair. Yo, let it be known, my friend. I'm a huge supporter of the police. Yes. What are you going to do say that you don't support the police? A lot of people do, Danny.
Starting point is 00:06:26 A lot of people do. A lot of you expect. I respect the police more than anyone. They're here to help us. I'm just saying the uniform. I'd like you to know I'm against racism. No, the uniform, you know, in every city it varies. I feel like NYPD, LAPD, different uniforms, different cars.
Starting point is 00:06:42 You know, the police are different. And we're in New Orleans, it is like a navy blue Dudley-Dudeley-Rite. Mountie outfit. I'm like riding around on horses and everything. Honestly, it's wild. So that's observation number one. Observation number two is what a weenie rich is. He just had a roast beef sandwich.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Again, in between the Cowboys show. Yeah, he had a poe boy because we're here in Nolens. So in between Colin's show and this show that just started, he had a roast beef poe boy, and he keeps complaining that, my belly hurts. My tummy aches. I didn't say tummy hurts. You down with the sickness? Yeah, apparently.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Clarissa Thompson was supposed to be on the show today. There's some little virus or butt going around New Orleans right now, and you heard at the top of the hour, Ilo say that Jalen Carter of the Eagles. missed his media availability today with illness. It's concerning because we have alerts on our phone and there's been alerts, you know, shooting out from everybody that there's something going on around here where people are getting sick.
Starting point is 00:07:40 So I hope that's not hopping into you, Rich, because, you know. Because you're breathing on us. Exactly. I just had a big-ass po-boy too much sauce. I mean, think about it the other day. Colin mid-segment was like, yeah. Starr, stars, Luca.
Starting point is 00:07:54 You know what, guys? I got to go. And so there is a little something. going around. And by the way, that's not why we filled in for him today. He was making his way here to New Orleans. So that's why we did double duty today. But speaking of the food and his bellyache, I got to tell you what he did last night. Oh, no, I have an observation about the restaurant we had lunch at. Go ahead. Again, this, not trying to be controversial. We went to a really nice little bar pub. Got a Popeboy. Got a couple apps just to kill the time in between.
Starting point is 00:08:26 between shows. I'm talking to our buddy from the odd couple, Kelvin. And we both looked down. And Kavino had given me a signal look down before I didn't know what he was talking about. The tiles in this bar had a swastick, a pattern. And I'm like, not just one. It was just full on throughout the bar. The whole tile floor was the tile. And everyone's like, what is going on? Yeah, like I said, I'm against racism. Yeah, exactly. Thank you, Daddy. Immediately, one of the workers, they go, look at the sign.
Starting point is 00:09:03 And there's a big sign that says, this place was built in 1902 prior to World War II, prior to Nazis. And it was a sign of peace. And I'm thinking, still, change your tiles. Well, they say Hitler took that symbol and inverted it. Exactly, exactly. Yeah. So, I mean, historic in a sense, it's. an old floor.
Starting point is 00:09:26 They explained it, but it's hard to not notice. I mean, don't you think it's like to change in time? I mean, yeah. The simple sort of changed over time, yeah. Don't you think the employees must be really sick of explaining it to every single person that comes in? That's why there's a big giant plaque. So again, some random observations. And before we get into other stuff, LeBron and John Madden and midweek major and some football
Starting point is 00:09:49 observations. You got your notes? Rich. Elon Musk owns that restaurant. Stop it. Last night, we all went out. Fox Sports Radio. You know, some of the bigwigs.
Starting point is 00:10:02 It's always fun to hobnob and booze and schmooze with important people. And, you know, some other shows were there. Rich thought it was the right time to go splitcies, as he called it. Havsies. Havsies with our boss. So Rich and our boss, I mean, solid move, lame move or boss? move because it is our boss. You're down employing it, though. It was like Lady in the Tramp
Starting point is 00:10:30 style. Well, yeah, because then they interlocked arms and fed each other, not even joking. No, I'm joking. I think that was joking. That part was joking, but they actually did it, is my point. They shared food and went halves. So the question is, before we dive into the other stuff, let's have some fun, Kavino and Richless. Get involved. 87799 on Fox.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Is it okay to share meals with your bro, your buddy, or is that something you used to with your wife or girlfriend? Like split plates. Yeah, you're split in plates. Well, here's the thing. I think anyone that says rich, it caused a lot of chit-chat. And a lot of laughter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:07 But I think anyone that has a problem with this is out of their damn mind. I'll tell you why. Then why did everybody react? There have been times where... Why did head honcho Don Martin call you soft? Yeah, yeah. Why did everybody lose respect for you all of a sudden? Thanks, guys.
Starting point is 00:11:20 No, listen, you could say, well, it's your wife. It's different. but recently I met a diner with my wife and I saw on the menu they had a Rubin and they had I believe it was a pulp pork grilled cheese
Starting point is 00:11:35 I think it was a Ruben Sierra just a little mustache and I was like I was like babe you want to do havesies want to split and my wife gets annoyed that I want to do this all the time but to me I'm the guy that wants to get a little taste of everything
Starting point is 00:11:48 so we're at the restaurant last night I happen to be sitting next to the boss we have a big table really fun time Great crew with Foxcores. You think it's coincidence, Rich was sitting next to the boss, or he was kissing ass. Oh, Jesus. Kissing ass. That's what he was doing.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Rich was kissing ass. That's what your dad would say. And our boss Scott, I saw him eyeing up the scallops or the fillet. Yeah, sometimes it's hard to make a choice, but a real man makes a choice and sticks with it. Or, hey, sometimes it doesn't work, and sometimes it does. Or I saw that we were both decided. between two things like, hey, dude, you go on with the scallops or you're going with the steak? And I'll give Scott credit.
Starting point is 00:12:31 He led off with, by the way, how do you like your steak? He led you there? And I go, medium rare. How about you? So do I. He goes, so do I. And then it was the, I guess that makes us split pals. But at that point, it's like, all right, do you?
Starting point is 00:12:50 No, you want to get the steak and the scalps and we'll just split them? I see no problem. The fact that you boneheads even address this, this is brilliance. And then, Kavino had this huge ass pork chop, and I'm like, let me get a little taste. I got to try three entrees. A little sample is here and there. Okay, I get it, right? You know, again, you're on the company dime, and as Rob Parker says,
Starting point is 00:13:12 when the company pays, you eat filets. Oh, he's a whole other story. Eat filet. But sharing with another man, splitting the plate, your thoughts, At Covino & Rich, at Fox Sports Radio. Yo, I was saying back at the studio, we've hung with I with Sam. We've been to my house. I was saying we've been out for meals.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Are you cool splitting entrees with one of your buds? I guess. That was a very hesitant, I guess. Yeah, because sometimes you, as a guy, you see what you like, and I don't even want to share it, let alone split it. Like, get your own meal. Listen, if someone wants a little taste. Little taste.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Then they can have a little taste, but I'd prefer to keep my own. an entree because I'm kind of a fatty so I want to eat all the food on my plate same I'm with Sam I sent you and Ryan the picture there Sam you see that I think I saw this on your socials Danny I can't say I've never done it
Starting point is 00:14:07 I know but it's not something that I lean toward rich seems to be like an endorser of this tactic well I'll say what not everyone's down for it and again yeah Arnie Spaniardier just texted into the show what a suck up Rich is I don't even share
Starting point is 00:14:23 any of my food with my wife. That's what I'm saying. Sharing with the boss. Kissing ass. Wow. What's it to you? By the way, you know, thank you, Artie. I love that guy, by the way. That's great. I will say this. I recently did this with our video guy's spot, and he's like, never again. We were at the graduate hotel in Auburn. Yeah. And I'll be honest. I'll take accountability. I'm always the guy that wants to do this. We went to some great place for dinner at the graduate. And there was a Southern fried chicken sandwich and a smash burger. And I was like, oh, damn it. I'm just indecisive, dude.
Starting point is 00:15:01 You're amazed I'm married. I picked one woman. To me, I'm like, cor-quit-want, white, black, I'll take it. Variety is the spice of life. So when you put... Oh, that's a good one. Did you come up with that? I did, actually.
Starting point is 00:15:11 I made that up. When you put a fried chicken sandwich on one side of me and a smash burger on the other side, I said, spot. Let's do it. Come on. Splitsky's. Split-a-ro. Cherseys.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Spots like, okay, fine. He did not like the chicken, and he's like, yeah, you're an ass. I hate you know. Like, he was so mad. Because you steered him in the wrong direction. Well, hey, you know what? We'll let you decide.
Starting point is 00:15:35 It's an old school. It's Super Bowl week, so let's do an old-school NFL. Fox Sports Radio Nation, you make the call. Yeah, listen, there's a ton of NFL and NBA and stuff to get to. But why not start with a fun light question? I want people to understand, though. It's not all about football in the game. There's a lot of fun to be had at these events in the week leading up to Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:15:57 It's a lot of people. You see all the families outside of the convention center going into the NFL experience today. That's what I'm saying. As Kimino loves to point out, how come our dads never took us to places like this? You mean to places our dads never took us? Yeah. No, I mean, it's fun for the family. It's fun for the coworkers.
Starting point is 00:16:13 We're hanging out with our colleagues. We're going out for dinners. You know, we're here at Radio Row. It's kind of a reunion. You've seen old colleagues that you worked with. So there's a lot more story to tell than, you know, who's more motivated. The Eagles or the Chiefs. The Eagles.
Starting point is 00:16:30 Trust me. Two hours, we got a lot of NFL. We got some NFL stars stopping by. Stars. But I will say this. Dare I sound corny and say, this is great team building. It is. Not the split of the dinner.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I'm saying the fact that, you know, I was chopping it up with. Doug Gottlieb's here. We just saw Kelvin at the restaurant we were at. You know, tonight we're going to be going to Collins party. So it really is an opportunity to really spend some time with the people on your team, essentially. Exactly. And it's not just us. It's everybody.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I mean, the superstars are out. The pro bowlers are here. And when I say pro bowlers, I mean Pete Weber. Yeah, exactly. Covino, do you hear a lot of exaggerating because I overheard Rich tell Gottlieb. I watch all your video clips. Yeah, he's a. Do you?
Starting point is 00:17:18 He's a sucker. I said one of them. No, I watch all of them. Now, start thinking about this, too. Yeah. Because aside from football, it's unbelievable that we're even talking NBA right now, but there's so many moves to be made in the next 24 hours or so, right? So I got to ask you about LeBron James.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Seems to be handling the news pretty good. Had a nice game yesterday. Bronny hit a three-pointer. As he did point out, though, when he went to the. bench. AD wasn't there. I know. And he's used to AD being in that spot. But he saw Lucas smile and he felt right at home again. LeBron, more motivated to stick around or call it quits, knowing that his replacement is there. Think about that. Maybe not necessarily just LeBron, like you. Let's say, you know your replacement's there. Do you want to hang around and go for that
Starting point is 00:18:14 ride with the new guy and teach him the ropes and show him around? It's not like LeBron's not going to be part of this. No, no, no. Yeah, but you don't know how much longer he intended on playing. There's a theory of Luca may have prolonged his career and gave him second life because it takes a lot of weight off of him. Or do you think LeBron says, yeah, we're going to go for it. He's a true professional.
Starting point is 00:18:36 We know that, you know, I want to win with this guy, but it's his team moving forward and I'm done after that. Well, you know what? Hold your LeBron and Luca thoughts. Because there's other Luca thoughts, and they have to do with, when you're called, like, out of shape or chubby, is that a motivator in itself? Absolutely. The simple fact that even he said so. The simple fact that the narrative that Luca is 25 years old and a little thick with a bunch of C's.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Mm-hmm. T-H-I-I-I-C-C-C-C-C. So we'll start thinking about that guys. We'll get to that. Some more NFL, of course, a little preview. Eagles, Chiefs. But we are joined next by Super Bowl champion Malcolm. Butler. So hang tight. We got more
Starting point is 00:19:15 Kavino & Rich next right here on Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Fox Sports Radio.com. And within the IHard Radio app, search FSR to listen live. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news,
Starting point is 00:19:35 huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:19:50 So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:09 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey Jonas, and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
Starting point is 00:20:46 help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Ely Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things.
Starting point is 00:21:33 The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Giamonka seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad. But secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No. I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? life. That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:23:10 If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Georgia accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King,
Starting point is 00:23:33 recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment.
Starting point is 00:23:56 To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back to the show, Covino and Rich. Yeah, Radio Row. I'm Steve Covino. That is Rich Davis. Yes, let's welcome. Two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots. Malcolm Butler, everybody.
Starting point is 00:24:22 How are you doing? I'm doing good, man. How are y'all doing? Having a hell of a day, man? I mean, I think of you and, you know, you got to think immediately one of the biggest plays in Super Bowl history. In history. What the hell?
Starting point is 00:24:36 Let's start there. Oh, hey, man, big-time player. Make big-time plays, baby. Hey, it only counts when it counts. You know, I'll ask you this. How did your life change after that catch? Because you were the hero after that win. How did life change immediately after that?
Starting point is 00:24:54 I'll just say, Mr. Kraff said, what's your name? Right. All of a sudden, you're really important, right? By the way, has Russell Wilson ever, you know, approach you like, yo, I sort of hate you, my man, or no? No, well, I met him. I don't know, we was at the correspondence dinner. I think in 2015, I was talking to his grandmother.
Starting point is 00:25:13 I don't know where she's from, but she is. so sweet. I think we was sitting there talking for like six or seven minutes. He said, come on, Grandma, we got to go. Isn't that odd that one of your greatest moments is one of his greatest nightmares, right? He probably still thinks about that every night, the same way you do, just opposite. Yeah, I'm glad I got the better end. Yeah, hell yeah. By the way, part of two of the more exciting Super Bowls than the ever maybe, you know, that ending versus the Seahawks when you win. And then against the Falcons, right? Oh, yeah, yeah. 28 to three? The anniversary was just the other day. Hey, we came back like I keep coming back for that church
Starting point is 00:25:48 of chick. We're going to talk about that because I can smell it. Malcolm Butler here with Kavino and Rich. Now, that play didn't happen by accident. You were prepared for it. So what was your preparation? You know, how did you prepare for plays like that and quarterbacks back in the day? Well, back in the day, like, you just see the athlete and we always just wanted picks and stuff like that. But once I got to college, I started to learn the technique, and especially when I got to the New England Patriots, playing for under Bill Belichick. I started learning the technique. The game starts slowing down more.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I didn't play as much, but I always was an urgency reserved player. We had Brandon Brown, Derell Revis, Logan Ryan. Like, I deserve to sit, but I didn't think I deserve to sit. But, like, you got to earn your stripes. Right. And I think I earned my scripes enough to be able to get in the most important game. In the most important work in moments, too, yeah. Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Yeah, Malcolm, let me ask you, when you see Coach Belichick now going to college, do you think these young kids will respond to his style? Yes, yes. Like, of course they're going to. I mean, he appeals to the young he has a younger girlfriend. Maybe that demo, maybe that demo likes Coach Belichick. Damn, she might be on campus. She might be, oh, social studies and stuff.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Let me stop playing. But, yeah, like, I know the game, like, Nick Saban got out the game because, like, the NIL deals and stuff like that. Like, he can't compete no more. But, like, it's an even playing field now. But I think players will most definitely go play for Bill Belichick. And, like, Bill Belichick never been a social media guy or a guy about money. You either do your job and help the team win.
Starting point is 00:27:38 and who don't want to play for one of the best coaches in the NFL? Speaking of. And then he finds Malcolm Butler. He's going to go find him another Malcolm Butler, another Tom Brady, another Julian Elder Man. You played for the Pats 2014 to 2017, then again in 2022. What was it like going back at the end of your career? Because KD said today he has no interest in going back to the Golden State Warriors.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Was it just as fun the second time around? Do you take pride in starting and ending your career with the Pats? How was it? Man, I just felt like it was different. I kind of felt like Billichick wasn't as hard as it used to be. Really? So it was different. And then I got older also.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Yeah. And then the players got younger. So maybe I don't know what I was seeing, but like, I don't know. It's just different, man. Like, we had our runs. But I don't think. it wasn't it's just like it's not the same now it wasn't the same then right i saw vince wilfork earlier we had him on the show and he was saying how when you when you have tom brady on your team
Starting point is 00:28:48 you never feel like you're out of it was that a sense you had even you know even though you're on the other side of the ball did you have a respect for brady and when you see documentaries like man in the arena is it cool to look back at all those moments you guys had yeah yeah 100% when i first seen like I never thought in my life I'd play for the New England Patriots. Yeah. I said, damn, my bad. I said, dang, it's cold. Like just playing the game.
Starting point is 00:29:16 And then I'm like, dang, it's cold. Then I end up in the locker room and I see Tom Brady with this big trapper keeper. I'm talking about, I don't know if he was a teacher or what, but he is a teacher, teacher of the game. Yeah. But I'll tell you about Super Bowl 52. He said, we're going to come back and kick you. Yeah. I said, man, whatever.
Starting point is 00:29:38 What? Throwing that thing. Came back, and that made me a true believer. So Vince Wilford is very right. We're here with Malcolm Butler, again, Super Bowl champion. What's the last three years been like for you, man? Because you retired in 2022. So what's that been like for you?
Starting point is 00:29:56 I coached high school football. Nice. Yep. Went to the state championship. in 2020 and Jason Whitten stopped us this year from going. No way.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Be the breaks off of us. And is that fun for you? You get joy passing down your knowledge of these kids? Oh, I love it, man. I love it. God blessed us to bless other people. I love that. Hey, you know, Malcolm, when you're here and you see all these people, is it sort of like a reunion? You bump into old guys you would see across the across the field?
Starting point is 00:30:32 I just seen one guy. He said, yeah, I've seen a bunch of guys. I just seen one guy. He said, man, I would have been in on the play if they ain't called goal line three corners. It's called three corners. Somebody got to get out the game. Malcolm Butler here with Kavino and Rich.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Again, you're only 34 years old, right? So you were an older guy on the field, but you're a young man in life. You're getting your competitive flow as a coach. But is there a party that still wants to compete in other sports? man I thought about playing ball again but no I can't do it like once you stop you just can't crack the engine back up no more no but you're still in shape oh yeah yeah you got to look good so you're keeping in shape yeah you're styling today here on radio you're looking sick man
Starting point is 00:31:17 hey 50 away keep the weight away that's it man and you're aside from the Super Bowl win and the rings and everything other memories that are near and dear to you any other accolades and memories that stand out to you in the NFL? Man, just, I appreciate everything. I'll tell you that. Is it the relationships, the friendships? The relationship, the friendships, the respect, the ups and downs. Like, you got to appreciate everything while you hear
Starting point is 00:31:45 and, like, just be thankful for everything. I'm thankful being on Fox. How are these guys feeling a couple days before the Super Bowl? They got butterflies. You think some guys are just naturally calm? What were you like? Were you in your own head? This has to bring up a lot of memories for him.
Starting point is 00:32:00 So, like, I was like, I ain't going to play. I mean, my first year, I was like, I ain't going to play. But, like, in the meat room, my coach said, Malcolm, be ready to play. You're going to put your little West Alabama school on the map. And I got in and did my thing. But I wasn't scared. I wasn't scared. You were prepared.
Starting point is 00:32:21 I was just ready. Nice. I love it. And you're here, by the way, churches, Texas chicken. Yeah, I'm smelling it the whole time. Oh, yeah. What are you guys doing this week, Super Bowl Week? Hey, man, look, we're having a block party Thursday.
Starting point is 00:32:34 No, Saturday. On South Claiborne Street, $1,600. Look, kids eat for free. Nice. You're going to get some autograph, jerseys, pictures from me. Nice. And then somebody got a chance to win chicken for the whole year. Get out of here.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Really? Hey, hey, hey, I love it. Hey, so pull up like that fresh chicken. Nice. churches, Texas chicken. It's a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for being on the show. A round of a pleasure,

Starting point is 00:33:29 I was saying there's certain guys. He's shown a lot of man ankle, bro, man ankle, but he owns it. Yeah, you can tell there's certain guys in the world of sports that are styling, others that, just whatever. He's one of those guys that he put a lot of effort into his wardrobe. Yeah, there's guys like him, there's guys like
Starting point is 00:33:46 Jason Kelsey who just show up in their sweatpants and their flip-flops. No doubt. There's no right or wrong answer when going to the game, but he's styling for sure. Starting point is 00:34:47 4 days until Super Bowl Sunday. Now, coming up, I want to talk more about Luca. Oh, yeah. Because, I mean, we are here at the time. the Super Bowl, but the AD Luca thing, there's so many layers, so much intrigue, and the more you're getting little nuggets and tidbits from these guys, the way Lucas' body language is, he seems a little aggravated, but I think that aggravation is going to result in... Yeah, but if you lost $100 million and it's just a little aggravated too.
Starting point is 00:35:16 But Danny, you're a Lakers fan. And then you're criticized for being overweight. Danny, you were saying earlier when he filled in on the herd, when someone insinuates you're out of shape, like at the restaurant last night. Well, you've got to bring up old stuff. Yeah, so we're at the bar slash they have great appetizers there at our hotel. And we were waiting to go on a little outing with some of our coworkers. So we're standing there waiting.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Covino's standing next to me. One of the barbacks walks by, and he's bringing an appetizer to one of the guests at the hotel there. And he cuts through the middle of Covino and he looks right at me and he says, excuse me, big guy. Big guy. And no offense, Danny. No offense, Danny, you're not like 6'4.
Starting point is 00:35:56 So when he says, big guy, you've got to take that a certain way. Or that's just the way he addresses people. Like, all right, boss. Hey, all right, chief, you know. But that big guy, if you're a little sensitive, that could be on your mind all day long. There's a lot of funny social media bits of when people say that. For the rest of the day, they're just dwelling. He just basically called me fat.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Big guy. Big guy. And I told Jonas Knox the other night. I said, imagine if Shapiro, our boss, traded you to ESPN. And then you caught wind publicly that he was saying you were out of shape. You were fat. You weren't in shape. That's why he traded you.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And Jonah said, I'd be on the treadmill for an hour immediately. No doubt. And you know what? Kavino and I have always talked about how when you go through a breakup, and let's be honest, when you're traded straight up and you're a superstar. And your conditioning was in question. You are going through a breakup. He straight up broke up.
Starting point is 00:36:50 The Mavericks dumped them. Now, listen, it was a really big trade to Superstar. But you could look at it as, you know, he got dumped. And what do you do during a breakup, Kavino? You hit the gym, you better yourself. You get motivated. It lights a fire. I think with LeBron on his side and LeBron being a superconditioned guy that spends millions on his body, on his routine, on his fitness and diet, I want to be shocked.
Starting point is 00:37:14 If he goes to LeBron and Luca plays better than he's ever played, I would not be shocked. Because honestly, when you're an elite athlete, you're 25 years old and people are, questioning your conditioning, you still got the metabolism at 25 to be like, you know, F you, F you. Here's the dangerous side. It's a double-dusy of motivation because, I mean, he's already self-motivated to be as great as he is. But now he has this little bit of revenge, too, like, all right, I'll show them.
Starting point is 00:37:41 So add that on top of his already motivated self. And man, he's going to be dangerous. And if you think he's fat, he got to the NBA finals. He led his Mavericks to the finals just nine months ago being, quote-unquote, fat. So something to think about Luca, Lakers, will it work out? We talked about it earlier on Colin Choate. To judge and grade this trade is preposterous. So we're just going to have to wait and find out.
Starting point is 00:38:06 And the NBA is waiting for us. After Super Bowl Sunday, the NBA is waiting. Get ready to heat up. All right. So we got more of that. And we're going to talk little John Madden and culture shifting, all right? Yeah. This week is the anniversary of when John Madden actually became a coach.
Starting point is 00:38:23 in 1969. And that shifted the culture, forget about, of the team of the NFL, practically. Yeah. But other coaches and the impacts they had in regards to culture shift and more, midweek major. We got it here on Kavino Enrich, live from Media Row, Super Bowl 59, New Orleans. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Catch all of our shows at foxportsradio.com. And within the IHeard Radio app, search FSR to listen live. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:39:01 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:39:15 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it. One of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
Starting point is 00:39:35 people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite on Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get. your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the
Starting point is 00:40:48 history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes. Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that?
Starting point is 00:41:10 They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Gianmanca seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea?
Starting point is 00:41:38 It seemed very crazy, but I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong or what that might look like? No. I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man.
Starting point is 00:42:09 This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man. the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that.
Starting point is 00:42:41 I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hippocrat, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man.
Starting point is 00:43:06 If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from a Hypocrite as part of the My Cultura podcast.

Starting point is 00:44:44 Now, we're talking a lot of Luca and LeBron. We still got Midweek Major coming up. The biggest stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Thanks again to Malcolm Butler for stopping by. Is the phrase I would be remiss? Is that a phrase? Yes, I think so, right? I would be remiss trying to sound all professional.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I think it's remissed. Somebody owes you $5. So, remiss, thank you, I was Sam. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that if the Super Bowl comes to your home state, your town, and you've got kids or family or just go with your buddies. When they do these fan fest and fan experiences, honestly, it's such a thrill to see all these little kids getting excited, seeing their favorite players, seeing all the, you know, kick a field goal,
Starting point is 00:45:30 throw a football, you know, through a tire. They got setups and the NFL does it right. They really do. I took a walk through the fan fest and it's so good. Honestly, to see all those kids, as you said, my parents didn't take me to these type of things. I know, man. Way cooler than Chuck E. Cheese.
Starting point is 00:45:46 If you can, take your family. It's always a great week, always a great time. And there's superstars everywhere. Now, our buddy Wes from Vegas hit us up. He goes, the more and more you guys, Wes from Vegas, mustache, I know that guy. He says, more and more you guys talk about this trade of Luca and AD. He goes, the more you talk about it, I don't think it's as big as you're making it out to be. Big names, yes, but reality is the trade is one injury prone star for another injury prone star who's out of shape.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Just a thought. And I would never wish that. No, no, because I'm not thinking that. But there is a possibility that although there's big names involved, it's like the dud of an outcome. We don't know that yet, right? I want to refute that. Now you owe me $5 for that word.
Starting point is 00:46:34 You too, good one. Okay, because Anthony Davis was having a very MVP-like healthy season up until this abdominal strain that he just got. But prior to that, he was healthy on the court and looking like the best version of himself. That would suck, though, if that were to happen. No, I agree with that. I just don't see it.
Starting point is 00:46:54 And then with Luca being fired up, hopefully, we're going to see the best out of both of these players. I mean, just, you know how sometimes the scheduling gods, you know, give us something to root for. Imagine come NBA playoff time, the Mavs and the Lakers face each other, like, in the second round or something. Somewhere along the way, they face each other. Tell me that wouldn't be the ultimate, like, all right, let's see how this worked out. So I think the world should be rooting for that. I'm pumped for it, but there's always that possibility, and that's why I brought that up. Okay, so I'm going to set this up.
Starting point is 00:47:32 We set it before. Now I want you to start thinking about it. I believe it was yesterday, but we had so much to get to, so many guests stopping by. We never got to it. But this week is the anniversary. You marks the anniversary of when John Madden became a coach in 1969. And you could look back and see that. say, well, that sort of changed the culture for everything.
Starting point is 00:47:55 Dun dun dun and dun dun dun dun. Wait, wait, hold on. I have to say this. Hey, kids, John Madden's just not a name on a video game. You just think about it too. Are kids and other, you know, anyone younger than 30 or so? I mean, they know that Madden was a coach, but he is, he's the, he's the face of a video game, but, you know, a game changing coach in the NFL when he took over for the Raiders, Super Bowl champion. I believe, you know, we think of John I thought he was the tough acting to acting guy. You know, think about it this way. If you're a kid of the 80s or 90s, you think of John Manette as an announcer.
Starting point is 00:48:29 When my feet bursted into flames, I thought he was the guy I had to call up. John? Boom. Tough acting, ten acting. But think about it. If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, he had video games and tough acting to acting and, you know, him and Pat Summerall, one of the best duos of all time. I thought he was the guy breaking into walls, you know, with Miller Light. That's what I thought.
Starting point is 00:48:49 I thought he was like the Miller Light version of the Kool-Aid man. If you think back to our parents' generation, we think of him as like the awesome old guy. He was the youngest coach in the NFL at some point. Crazy, right? Picture like young John Madden just making such a culture shift in the league and what he brought the energy. Not just the Raiders, just in the league. I think of it. At one point, he was tiny enough where people were hoisting him up on the shoulder.
Starting point is 00:49:15 That's crazy. I think of the famous clips of the curl in his hair. and the pocket protector with his button-up shirt. No doubt. So when you think of John Maddoch? I think of his checkered pants. And the culture he brought to the Oakland, L.A., Oakland, whatever they were at the time. They were Oakland.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Oakland Raiders. Yeah, he never coached the L.A. Raiders. Look at it this way. There's very few coaches in all of sports that changed the dynamics and the culture more. I'll throw out a couple. And if you want to chime in, 87799 on Fox, live from Radio Row. Yeah, we like to get everybody involved. This is your chance to chime in at 87799 on Fox.
Starting point is 00:49:54 I'm going to start off with a simple one. That's got to be Joe Torrey for the Yankees. You know, you could say that Buck Showalter. He built that team. Built that team with Stick Michael, Gene Michael. But Joe Tori, once he got in there, changed a culture of that locker room, and they became a winning championship franchise. He definitely changed it for that decade.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Okay. Well, I could think of like 10 better answers than Joe. Tori. That's why I said I get the obvious out. You're the greatest, bro. I am the greatest. Let's give Rich a hip-hip-or-ray. Hip-hip-A-Rae.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Greatest guy. Greatest guy ever. Greatest guy. Always goes with the Yankee answer. Kavino, everybody. You mean the guy who never stops talking about Pete Alonzo, one of 49ers? Get over here. Let me smack you.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Hey, more next. Live from the Super Bowl. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:50:42 We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to... We're the first people to do podcasts. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.
