What an honor to fill in for Colin on the Hurd. Super Bowl Week, New Orleans. So pumped. We're Covino and Rich. Fox Sports Radio, again, in for Colin on the herd.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Media Row. New Orleans. Super Bowl 59. Super pumped to be here. And we have an action-pack show. A triple doozy of awesome. We're joined. You caught it to triple doozy?
Starting point is 00:02:55 I just made that up. You like it? Vince Wilfork stopping by. Excited about that. Fred Warner stopping by. As a Niners fan. I'm abnormal. pumped about that.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Relax, man. Keep it in the pantalones. I'll try. I'll try. Thank you. Yeah. No slow roasters. Too early for all that.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Sorry. And we're joined by Puka Nuku. And when you think about it, we got Puka and Luca in the news. So lots to talk about today on Kavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio. You know what? What's interesting is Pooka and the Ku is a great guest to have today because there's a lot of RAM news. a lot.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Matthew Stafford was even in the news today. Are they possibly thinking about moving him? That just makes zero sense. You can ram it all night. Yeah, you got to bring that up with him too, man. We have lots of questions for Pooka and Kua. So stick around and get involved. Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Going to turn your hump day into a hump night. And not only three hours of Colin, we got two hours of our regular show, two to four on the west, five to seven on the east, Covino and Rich. So five hours of fun from Radio Row. And just as Puka approaches, want to explain that, the vibe is so good today, starting to build on this Wednesday. We were here Monday and Tuesday, obviously.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It's a little slow. People are starting to come now, getting excited for the Super Bowl. There's a buzz in the air. I feel it. Celebrities are walking around. Spotty was in the bathroom with Gronk earlier. Like, ooh! What are they doing there?
Starting point is 00:04:26 I mean, he just happened to see him in there. I don't know if he was gazing or anything. But look, the stars are here. Stars. And we're going to talk to them and we're going to have a lot of fun. Oh, there is. And I see Puka Nikoi. Mark I, the great New Orleans Saint was getting coffee with us at Starbucks.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Yeah, that's the vibe of Super Bowl, New Orleans. Again, super pumped to be here. I'm Steve Kavino. That is Rich Davis. Danny G.'s super producing and making his way. Man, he's looking handsome. It's great to see him again. He's getting his headphones on.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Let's welcome. Puka Nakua. What's up, my friend? And Rich Show. in for Colin on the herd. Thanks for your time, man. Man, appreciate you guys. How you doing?
Starting point is 00:05:07 It's been a good week so far. It's been great. I want to ask you that. How are you doing, man? Because I know you wish you were playing, but you're here, and you look excited. Everybody's excited to see you. What's it like for you being here? Shoot, yeah, it's just trying to get a grasp of what the offseason looks like now going into year two and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:05:23 But yeah, definitely, hopefully, hopefully, yeah, planning on not being here next year. At least doing a different type of media. Hopefully I'll get to wear one of the jumps since I just barely saw all those guys in and the Rams will be ready to roll. Nice. Now, how does it feel when, you know, it's only a few weeks ago, you know, the ball is to you on a play that could, you know, win the game? Do you still carry that? Like, you were so close to the team that's in the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:05:45 We were in Philly in the snow and you got that close. Is that, have you mentally moved past that, or is it still, like, you know, bothering you? I definitely is still bothering me. I think it will probably bother me the rest of the offseason, and it'll be the motivator for the many motivators that come in the off season. But, yeah, it's been kind of, I think about two years and a row. row, how we finished off in Detroit. Our last offensive possession was the last pass thrown to me, and then the same thing
Starting point is 00:06:07 here in Philly. So I can't let that happen again. If the opportunities are coming my way, man, letting down our team is not the best feeling. Yo, Puka, I got to ask because you get that close. The team that's in the Super Bowl on Sunday could very well have been beaten by you guys at home a couple weeks ago. What's with the Cooper Cup stories? What's with the Matthew Stafford rumors?
Starting point is 00:06:28 I saw you even put on social media that I thought that only happened to the NBA. Have you talked to Cooper Cup? Yeah, we've had some conversations, and Cooper had reached out to us kind of before that news had broke, but, I mean, I just feel like I'm so blessed, and I love that guy, Cooper Cup. From the moment I walked into the Rans facility, he's been the leader and the mentor that I've needed in my career, also in my life, to be able to see him be a father in the off-seasons and the husband that he is,
Starting point is 00:06:54 and it's been such a cool thing to watch, and I freaking love that guy. I'm going to miss being able to play. Even your girlfriend. Didn't your girlfriend also post that she's going to miss the Cup family? Yeah, yeah. I feel like I try to be involved as much as he would allow us. And, yeah, just to be a part of that guy's life. And it's been an interesting week.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Yeah, I can say. You guys were very close. I'm sorry to hear that because on a personal level, that's got to suck, not just as a teammate, but as a friend, he's gone. How's training going to be different moving forward? Because you guys train together, too. Yeah, I think we still got to figure it out. I got to figure out some of the things and be like, man,
Starting point is 00:07:30 he's been showing me the way I've been able to watch him and how he prepares for the football season, in season, and then how he's prepared out of season. So trying to make sure that, man, I take down some of those notes for myself because I got to be able to continue to get better. On a positive note, though, is it a chance for you to step up and now be a mentor and maybe grow some more now that he's not there? Like, you're the guy. I think so. And 100%. I think that's what has been the blessing and I look back on, man, what are all the things that he's taught me and what are the things that I've already built in my routine of being able to be with him.
Starting point is 00:08:00 for the past two years. And, yeah, just the man that I've watched lead this group, the Rams organization for many years. And it's an exciting challenge, and it's a privilege to be able to be in that role. We're here with Puka Nakua, Kavino and Rich, in for Colin on the herd. Looking handsome.
Starting point is 00:08:15 He's got the glasses on. He's got the hair pulled back, the baggy jeans and everything. Handsome young man with a lot of money, dude. Do they train you on how to fight the ladies off? You have a girlfriend, but what sort of, like, thinking goes into the end. I would imagine.
Starting point is 00:08:30 though, like when you're out and about, like, what's your approach with that? There's Pooking the Coole. You know a lot of ladies want to approach a dude. If he's at a party, just to take a picture, like, what's your mindset when it comes to all that stuff? Yeah, I guess now that I think about it, that's probably the way to get in and start a conversation is just to kind of come out as for a picture. Because I would say I'm the worst at saying, no, that's something I haven't learned as well as I probably should. But, I mean, football fans, I'm so appreciative. I grew up in Las Vegas and then in Utah, so there was no professional sports teams for the idea to
Starting point is 00:09:00 to go to see an NFL player for me at Sprouts or something. That's a privilege that these guys have. We're living in Southern California. So I never want to rob somebody of that moment because I didn't have that moment. And I don't want them to be like, oh, I saw Pooka at the store. And then he said I couldn't take a picture. So I'm always saying yes. But I would say I try not to avoid anybody.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I love the conversations. Everybody always has to come up with a smile. So I'm like, if somebody's come up trying to mean mug me, I probably wouldn't be as recipient. But they always got a big smile on their face. So, Puka, is there any bigger thrill when you see a little kid wearing your jersey? No, it's the best. It's the best feeling. It still doesn't feel real.
Starting point is 00:09:36 And, like, driving to SoFi Stadium when you're driving through Inglewood and you're pulling up to the game and there are people on the sidewalk and they got a 17 jersey, it feels awesome. Now, your Puka, L.A.'s now got a Luca. How do we feel about this? Pook and Luke is our podcast coming? Hopefully. I don't know if I'm in the market now for season tickets. I know what I've seen you ball. You're a basketball guy as well.
Starting point is 00:09:58 How do you feel about this? Is this big for LA? Do you like this? I love it. I think it's huge. I think it's an ability to take LeBron, I think, kind of off the ball and have somebody who's in their prime right now to be able to lead the kind of team. But it's super exciting. You have two superstars and somebody who I love good basketball. So it's going to be fun to watch. You get a jersey or what? Oh, I got to. I posted right after. I saw that. I texted one of our offices linemen who wears 77. I was like, I need that jersey now. You can still slam or what? Last time we talked to you, you were slamming. You still slamming? I still got it. Basketball is I feel like how I try to stay in.
Starting point is 00:10:28 shape for sure. People know he's one of the most elite wide receivers. Do you like to show off your basketball skills so people like, ooh damn, Puka can play? I wish. I mean, I always say after I'm done playing football, I want to go play overseas basketball somewhere. I'm like, I want to be able to go on a team where I can get 25 shots up a night. It's funny you brought that up. I did want to ask you about that because there was a story today about J.D. Martinez, the baseball player, wanting to get into pickleball after his career. I mean, you're young and you're in the middle of it now, but what do you see yourself doing in the future? future. I would love to play sports if I could continue. If there was basketball, yeah, I mean, I do play a little pickleball. I wouldn't say I'm as good to go pro. I've definitely seen some people in the kitchen and they go absolutely crazy and I'm like, I'm not as good as I think I am.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Really? But continue maybe with something else. Yeah, I, I, I, I'm 95% sure I'm going to play overseas basketball somewhere. I mean, if I go to a country where everybody's 5'10, I can go play. It's a good game plan. It's a good game plan. I could go get 20. 25 shots up at night. That's true, right? You could be like the LeBron of like another league somewhere. I could go pull the Jordan roll and be the GM and the coach and the player. I'm like, hey, so Puka's getting 25 shots tonight. Coach, what do you mean?
Starting point is 00:11:39 I'm like, Pooka's getting 25 shots tonight. That's great, man. Yeah, Pooka, let me ask you, you know, we all look forward to Sunday. I know it's a little tough not being in the game. Could anyone stop Saquan Barkley? When you watch him, I mean, the Rams have a good defense. And there's no one seems to have an answer for this guy. How does it happen?
Starting point is 00:11:57 Yeah, I think, man, when you... How was he funding that hole, that gap? How was he doing? When they got some big guys up in their front, on their offensive line, but you think of the size and the speed that he has, the ability to have contact balance, and then the acceleration is something that, man. You're watching the game live, and I'm like, holy cow, he was just standing next to everybody,
Starting point is 00:12:15 and now he's 25 yards past everybody. And the acceleration and the speed, he's somebody, it's definitely super excited to watch, and I think it definitely will be a challenge to slow him down. I know it's still a fresh wound, but the touchdown he scored against you in the snow where he's banging his helmet. He said that's his favorite play of his career.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Do you have favorite plays of your career? Do you look back and be like, yeah, that was a sweet touch on. That was my favorite. I think the one our game, we had a screen play against the bills this year. It was like a high-spoint game. Just walking out on the field and be like, yo, we got to score points to win this game. And we were able to match some.
Starting point is 00:12:47 And yeah, we had a screen who blocked the guy. We get it out one-on-one and being able to spurt off. And being the end-zone and be like, yeah, we kind of sealed the game. even though they pushed it and they made it feel close a little bit after, but that was a fun one for me. We saw a clip where Jaden Daniels was saying that he's not that bitter. He'll probably watch the Super Bowl. You're definitely watching, right?
Starting point is 00:13:06 Or are there mixed feelings like I don't even want to watch? Honestly, I haven't watched sensory loss. Really? So you're just tuned down. Yeah, this is the off season. That's why I feel like that's been some of the advice I've got from the veterans. Like, man, enjoy your off season because it goes by fast. So I figured if I'm in the off season, I'm watching the NBA every,
Starting point is 00:13:24 I got NBA league pass now. I'm tuned into every game they got. Watching the NFL must be like watching an X with a new dude. I don't want to see it. I don't want to. So do you just show up to a party or do you have a party? You're not really watching any tune in for Kendrick Lamar maybe? Is that a plan?
Starting point is 00:13:42 No, I don't know. Yeah, I mean, I'll see the highlights. I'll be on Instagram or Twitter after. I'll scroll through and see kind of how it all went. See what everybody. See the post game thoughts. Okay. You know what?
Starting point is 00:13:51 And you brought up social media. I wanted to ask you this too. We're here asking you a bunch of questions. You're getting hit up constantly by fans asking you questions. How do you tune that out, man? How do you choose and pick and choose what you want to respond to? Do you take a break ever? Yeah, I guess in the social media era and the information age that we're in,
Starting point is 00:14:10 I think it's exciting. I definitely don't say in football during season, it's hard to have a lot of interactions with people who aren't in the football facility just because of time constraints and stuff like that. So I enjoy the conversation because normally somebody's going to mention football, but it kind of gets you out of your little bubble and, like, man, takes you out and be like, man, I'm a normal human being who's going through a dive just like the fires. I think we're kind of something that kind of put everything in it.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Football into kind of a different perspective for us, but then also, man, like how just a simple hi or hello, how you're doing to somebody walking by can make a difference. Sean McVeigh has this odd skill where he doesn't he like remember every play he's ever coached or run. Do you have any weird odd like skills along those lines? Oh, no, I wish. I would say, I mean, definitely football players. I feel like I try to remember, but we were in a meeting. We're installing a new play, and he's like, yeah, go back to September of 2016,
Starting point is 00:15:04 and we're playing the Falcons in L.A., and we're on the right hash at the minus 45, and I'm like, yo, what are you talking about right now? I'm like, how did it? You just told me I needed to run this route, and you're all the way back in 2016 and two seconds. We're here with Pooka Nakuwa, Kavino, and Rich. You're talking about how to vets, the veterans are always saying to enjoy the offseason, because it goes fast. How often do you work out and what's your regiment like in the off season?
Starting point is 00:15:30 Off season, I mean, last year we got to follow Coop and kind of going through that first off season. I mean, we were going five days a week and so it's super excited. We'll hit routes and our conditioning probably two to three times a week. And we lift super heavy. Coop loves to lift heavy. So I think that's kind of what I've got used to. It makes you feel good and strong through the football season. I wish I only had to hit guys who were smaller than me, but that's not just how it works out.
Starting point is 00:15:52 So to be able to go in there and throw some weight. makes you feel nice and strong. When you take your shirt off, you're like, ah, I do this. I lift weights. Are you worried about what you eat, though, all the time? Are you able to relax and enjoy? I definitely have cut down on my eat. I used to be a fast food goer pretty much every day.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I still enjoy a good 10-piece chicken nugget every once in a while. So that's some of the things that just make me feel good. It's not necessarily about the food. Do people recognize you when you roll up at the fast food window? I think so sometimes. I have said that. There he is. Get his Nuckie.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Hey, man, I think that was Pooka Nakuwa. I've said this before, Camino, Pooka Nakua, it has me torn because I'm a Niners fan. But it's so hard to not root for you that I have this torn feeling when I think about the NFC West. Looking for it to next year. Do you assume the Niners will bounce back? 100%. I think it's one of the best organizations in the NFL. They still got a great quarterback, and they still have key players.
Starting point is 00:16:48 I think of somebody, I mean, I'm a BYU fan, so obviously when they have Fred Warner and BN. He's coming by later. We're excited to have one. So to be able to see that guy out there on the football field is Simon Special. So you know their defense is always going to be very strong. And obviously they got both in the front. So they have playmakers all around. I think it just proves to how hard it is to win in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:17:05 It really requires all 11 pieces. You know, interestingly enough, Fred Warner, a guy that's great at punching out the ball. This is like a theme we've been talking about. Defensively, it seems like people are being coached punch out the ball. They're taking boxing lessons. Bucca's got a stick and move. I was going to say, is that more in your mind? than ever before that when I get the ball, not even tackling,
Starting point is 00:17:26 people are going to be trying to punch out the ball. It seems like it's the emphasis on this. Yeah, 100%. And especially with how fast the game is, it's a moment of inches of how precise they can be and how precise you can be. So to be able to try to move that ball, but then it's also a scary thing as a ball carrier
Starting point is 00:17:41 to be like, man, I can't transition the ball to the arm as soon as I catch to make it my most valuable hand-free because everybody's coming to punch you. They're given their best side. They don't even care if they tackle years. I'm swinging one, two, three combo, and they're like, I hope I hit the ball on all three of them. I'm like, oh my goodness. Puka Nakua, we talked to you before.
Starting point is 00:18:00 We know you're a Toyota guy, so tell us what's going on with Toyota, man. Yeah, being a Toyota brand, I'm one of the ambassadors, I guess who would say who's a part of Toyota, and it's a blessing. I drive my super every day to the facility, and it's been so sweet to be able to part of some of the different programs that they do. We had Watts Rams, who's one of the smaller football programs down there in Inglewood, to be able to part of them and supports the next generation of football players to speak just like I had mentioned. I grew up in Las Vegas and there were, I couldn't go to Sprouts and see who my favorite
Starting point is 00:18:31 player at the grocery store. So to be able to represent Toyota and how much they impact the game of football on the field and in my life, but then also for other people who want to be around the football game. It's a true blessing. By the way, Pook, lucky to catch passes from a great quarterback like Matthew Stafford, whose wife has a very popular podcast. Would you be cool of your girl had a podcast and she talked about you? I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:54 I haven't watched Matthews. She does a good job. Yeah, I've seen some of the clips on Instagram, but I'm not a big podcaster, or a listener unless it's Joe Rogan. That's your guy? I dabble every once in a while, so I don't see too much of what's going on. Let me recommend another one, Kavino and Rin. Add that to the list, please.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Yeah, send it to me in the Dupat. Yeah, I got you, man. Yeah, Pook, a pleasure having you here. Always get to see you, bro. Always root for. He's the ram I have to root for. That's a great. Thank you, brother.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Thank you. In for Colin, Kavino and Rich. We got more next, filling it for the herd live from Radio Row. New Orleans. Hang tight. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:19:36 On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to...
Starting point is 00:19:52 We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was...
Starting point is 00:20:16 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:20:51 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the civil war. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Ely Boulevard. Get to the grocery store. I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes.
Starting point is 00:21:39 In Rebel Spirit, Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal. campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Geomanca seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else. A master of disguise who went on a crime spree.
Starting point is 00:22:23 At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No. I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. C&R, Covino and Rich, Infra.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Colin on the herd media row. Ro. Super Bowl 59, New Orleans. Thanks again to Puka Nakua. Tons of energy. Just a all around, good fella, cool guy. Nice to see him again. And let me shamelessly promote this, Rich. Not only are we doing Colin today, but we're doing our own show, our regular show. Monday through Friday, we're still doing five to seven on the east, two to four on the west.
Starting point is 00:23:48 We're joined by Clarissa Thompson later on. And here on, we got Fred Warner, stopping by your boy. That's my guy. And Vince Will Fork. And you never know who's going to stop by Radio Row. I'm Covino. That is Rich.
Starting point is 00:24:01 Danny G. Superproducing. Getting ready for your heard-line news. We got your videos going on at Fox Sports Radio. If you want to play along at home, at Covino and Rich. And we're going from Puka to Luca. I mean, how do you not talk about what's doing with Luca in the NBA? Yesterday, LeBron. There's like a million different little storylines.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Like when he goes to the bench. 8D is not where he usually is Every little layer of this is funny to me He was pointing at Luca though Luke uh should you know should be ready by this weekend to play And it's super exciting There's so many story lines here And I think everybody's come to the conclusion that nobody knew about it
Starting point is 00:24:42 LeBron didn't know about it He told his side of the story of how shocked he was and everything else But part of the story today is You know he loses a hundred million dollars on that max deal Right? We know this. Luca has to leave. He is sort of surprised by the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:25:00 It's like a gut punch. He said it was very hard to deal with the first few days. Loses $100 million on top of that. But now they're saying, but he gets to play with the legend and has a chance to win. So my question is this. Is that even close?
Starting point is 00:25:16 Is that an ancillary prize that even compares to losing $100 million? Or do you see it as, yeah, well, his legacy with LeBron and a chance to win leads to more endorsements in L.A. He's going to end up making more money anyway. Or does that $100 million really sting? Who knows what he planned on doing with that money? Get the hell out of here.
Starting point is 00:25:34 You know what that's like? Danny, have you ever worked at a radio or TV station where they might lobe ball you, but they say something like, but you got free snacks in the kitchen? Yeah. You always hear, we'll send you out to do a lot of remotes. That's how you can make up the money. You get a lot of side gags. Those little handshake deals and those little promises,
Starting point is 00:25:51 and we'll pay in snacks. They don't pay the bills, really. So, yeah, I want to know your thoughts on this. Like, there is something to be said about he's playing with his idol. He has said it's a dream come true. It is. Like, what a surprise. Imagine all of a sudden, LeBron James is your teammate.
Starting point is 00:26:08 But Luca's a star in his own right. So, again, he loses $100 million, about $100 million with that max deal. Not getting it. But he gets the chance to play with a legend and a chance to win. Again, a chance to it. There's no guarantee there. Why are we acting like in Dallas, he didn't have a chance? He made it to the NBA finals.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Exactly. So I don't even know how you even compare the two or how you even try to make it like some sort of ancillary prize that, well, he lost that, but he's got this. You know, unless LeBron delivers something else here and carries them to a championship, I'm not sure how that even compares. The bottom line, even though these guys are rich
Starting point is 00:26:47 and it's hard to sort of sympathize, I get it. No one feels sorry for rich guys. Imagine having to leave, being traded overnight. You just bought a house, and you're minus $100 million. The thought of playing with LeBron is cool, but it's not that cool.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Now, I agree. This is a gut punch, but you live in Los Angeles now. And I'm not saying Ellie's better than Dallas. Taxes are higher. Taxes are higher. But, I mean, perhaps more, if he wants them, media opportunities.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Maybe all of a sudden, it's Luca the actor, Luca, more commercial spokesman. But you can do that anywhere now it is. That goes with what you were saying before, though. There's no guarantees there, right? That's just like, yeah, but you could do this. It's something that people are glossing over because he's a Laker now.
Starting point is 00:27:36 And we're not trying to downplay the fact that he's a Laker. Now, that is cool. But, I mean, $100 million is a lot of money. I'll give you the analogy, and you'll hate it because you're a big Yankees guy. it's when people overstate Yeah, but he's got the pinstripes And I'm like, yeah, does anyone really care about the pinstripes anymore?
Starting point is 00:27:53 I get it, the Lakers have a legacy It's like Lakers and the Celtics have Have incomparable history Doesn't mean Luca Who's, let's be honest, a foreign player It looks like he's going to love it and accept it But it's not like he was thrilled to be taken out of a supermax possibility And how long is he going to play with LeBron?
Starting point is 00:28:14 You know, maybe he rejuvenated him We get LeBron for a few more years. That's great. But again, I don't know if that compares to losing $100 million. And Rich, to answer your previous question, I think Juan Soto proved that. Certain teams, it just doesn't matter. It's not how young players think about the game anymore. You know, the pinstripes.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Yeah, that was a big deal to us in the legacy and playing for the Yankees. That meant something to us at a certain point. But now it's more of a business where he was like, nah, you know, I'll go play for the Mets for more money. I'm good with that. So even though they're the Lakers, that's not necessarily how everybody, views the Lakers. Now, the Luca angle for me that I'm most intrigued by
Starting point is 00:28:51 is the narrative that he's out of shape and he's fat. And if you remember back, it all started, do you remember Danny G when they grabbed the beer out of his hand? I do you remember that? Yeah. People are like, do they not want him drinking? Do they not want the carbs, the calories? Remember they grabbed
Starting point is 00:29:07 the drink out of his hand and everyone's like, oh, that's peculiar? So add this up. Like, do the math here. Loses $100 million. More taxes in L.A. Totally's fat. No, he bought a house, right? He bought a house that he really can't even live in now. Now they're telling him he's fat.
Starting point is 00:29:22 I get there's all this plus side of playing with the legend and a chance to win. But they don't compare it to the gut punch that Lucas taken here and that blow to his confidence. Now, is he going to turn this dilemma into the lemonade and use this to motivate him? He's actually said it. It's a great motivator. He said, let's make it clear. It's not true. he goes, but it's very motivating.
Starting point is 00:29:47 You know, second to someone criticizing your hairline is like someone telling you that you're overweight, especially as an athlete. Bro, yesterday we were in the lobby of our hotel and one of the barbacks was carrying an order past us like an appetizer in his hands, and he passed Covino and I, and he looked at me and he's like, pardon me, big guy.
Starting point is 00:30:08 The rest of the night, Danny G's like, am I fat? Did he call my fat? At a Luca moment. No offense, Danny. You're not like 6-4, so it's not like big guy. You know what? And by the way, any guy who's... Did you just call me Zion now?
Starting point is 00:30:22 Yeah, no. Y'all, I get some bignets for you. Any guy who's a little self-conscious, if someone calls him big guy for the rest of the day, they're thinking, I think he meant I'm fat. I think he called me fat. I don't know. So, you know, you got all these things that Luca's dealing with. So we expect him to come out on fire on Saturday if he still plays on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:30:42 but in reality he's still dealing with a lot of that. And again, we like to think they're sports robots that have no feelings or thoughts whatsoever, get out there and play. But these are all things I'm sure he's battling and juggling with as we speak. And Rich, that's just another one. That insult sort of burns. It might be one of the most burns for a guy, for an athlete especially. I would say hairline and fat.
Starting point is 00:31:07 When you call an athlete out of shape, for an athlete insulating, they, Their conditioning stinks might be the biggest insult. Regular day-to-day grown men insulting someone's hairline or their family. Yeah. You know, there's very few things. And really add on to that, right? He's moving to L.A. How's he going to avoid the tacos out in L.A., man?
Starting point is 00:31:27 I feel bad for the guy. There's a lot of temptation out there. You know, more food options in Dallas, I think. So, listen. There's a lot of fattening food in Dallas. How's he going to avoid in-and-out burger, man? Can't the guy just enjoy some? do you think that, based on what we're all saying, to put a little bow on this conversation,
Starting point is 00:31:45 do you think Luca comes out to L.A., and all of a sudden we see a trim and slim Luca playing defense for the first time in a while, remotivated. Like, Kavino is the number one person in my life that loves to talk about, yeah, I've got a chip on my shoulder, I'm motivated, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You're telling me when the team that you brought to the NBA finals and a team that you're, you know, you're one of the faces of the league. You're 25 years old, and they're saying, yeah, now go to the Lakers. Yeah, you can react one of two ways. You can crumble and cry and pat about it. But when you're as competitive as this guy is,
Starting point is 00:32:22 and you've accomplished so much at such a young age, you take that as fuel to your fire. You're like, I'm fat, I'm out of shape, I don't play defense. Okay. You just cost me $100 million. You didn't even let me know I was out before I even bought a house. Okay, I'm going to show all of you guys. I think that's, what he does and we reap all the benefits and get to watch. So I think that just adds to the excitement. And again, to wrap it up like you said, Rich, all these gut punches, all these insults, all these little things that we're just sort of glossing over.
Starting point is 00:32:54 I don't think the fact that, you know, he gets to play with LeBron and a chance to win is a, is a good side bonus prize here. I think the future's in his hands and I can't wait to see what he does with it. Listen, again, if he was on subpar, you know, sub 500 teams, you know, maybe sniffed the playoffs a couple times, then it would be like, oh, look at this an opportunity. The guy was in the NBA finals a year ago. The guy is a, you know, you could argue a top five to ten star in the league for sure. It's just a matter of if he tightens up the conditioning and plays some better defense. And you know what, maybe LeBron, as the veteran he is, pulls aside, Lucas says, for all we know, LeBron.
Starting point is 00:33:36 could be an amazing influence on this guy. Because you can't question LeBron's work ethic. LeBron is 40 doing things that no one's ever done. And the thought is he may have prolonged LeBron's career because it doesn't look like LeBron's slowing down that much, if any. We always hear how much money LeBron famously spends on staying in shape and his trainers and his chef and all that stuff. If I'm LeBron, I slide all those phone numbers and all those contacts to my new teammate
Starting point is 00:34:05 and be like, dude, you need to get on my diet plan. Could I make one more dumb analogy? Because no one makes better analogies than Colin or me. Well, you make dumb ones, but yeah. Sure. Colin started it. Yeah. Colin makes good ones.
Starting point is 00:34:18 I make dumb ones. What do you, Kavino, and every other guy on planet Earth do after a breakup? Besides crime. Go to social media and look for someone else. I don't know. Kavino, I've known the guy for 10, 20 years. I hit the gym. You hit the gym.
Starting point is 00:34:35 get motivated and you could say that this is a breakup. It was a trade, but when your team gives up on you like that, when you were the guy that was supposed to get this supermax deal, how do you not feel motivated? It would be like if a radio station or a TV station in your case, Kavino or my case said, yeah, we don't want you anymore. You don't want to then show them like you made a mistake. And by the way, you don't think he has some bitterness or motivation
Starting point is 00:35:01 because that's the storyline that was leaked out there. Like, they could have maybe positioned it differently. Like, oh, we just didn't think that he was the fit we needed right now. It was like his conditioning was part of the story. Like, what an insult, dude. What an insult. So, yeah, I'm pumped to see how he uses this as motivation. And we got more stories in the world of the Lakers coming up here on the Kavino and Rich show.
Starting point is 00:35:29 In for Colin on the herd. All right. Let's go to Danny G. Who's going to be doing some herd line news. Let's go. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:35:41 All right, fellas, the leading story from Super Bowl Week in New Orleans. Fox Sports Radio's Rich Davis shared a dessert with his boss yesterday evening, Lady in the Tramp style. You know, this, we got to talk about this later. There was such a fuss because me and our boss, Scott, did splits skis. Splitsky's. Splitsies? Or splitsis?
Starting point is 00:36:03 I don't know. On two entrees? No, you're the professional. I mean, do we do the steak or the scallops? And we said, you know what? Why not split them? Is that a bad move? You guys were a legit couple the whole night.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Yeah, it was embarrassing. I got to watch for a second again, it was with our boss, but I couldn't believe you even went there. I mean, I think it's okay. You know, your thoughts at Covino and Rich. Can you share two entrees with your boss? Yeah, and they fed each other. Yeah, they did. That was so cute.
Starting point is 00:36:28 All right. Some NFL, some NFL news coming up. We'll start with the NBA, though, because a trade went down this morning. The NBA trade line, as you guys know, the deadline is tomorrow. Shams has another one. Breaking news from this morning, the Bucks have traded three-time All-Star Chris Middleton to the Wizards in a deal that sends Kyle Kuzma to Milwaukee. Middleton's 33, spent the last 11-plus season to Milwaukee. Of course, was a big part of that championship.
Starting point is 00:36:53 In fact of that championship in 2021, averaging just 12.6 points this season because of injuries the past few seasons he's been tailing off, as you know. Kuzma 29, averaging 15.2 points. He injects some youth to a Bucks roster that features three core players in Janice, Lillard, and Brooke Lopez all in their 30s. Yeah, that could be nice, man. I'll be honest, because that team, you know, right now currently sit in the five position in the east. But, you know, you know what the NBA now, seating seems to not matter the way it used to. So the Bucks will be a postseason team. It's just a matter of, is this an addition that could take them to the next level in the east?
Starting point is 00:37:29 But we're seeing that Domino's fall, and we're going to see. see some major moves in the next few hours. So I'm excited. And as we always say, as soon as Super Bowl's over, that's the perfect time to dive into the NBA. Oh, hell you. All right, we are here in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. Let's go to the NFL. Nick Seriani, the Eagles head coach, weighed in on your guys' debate yesterday
Starting point is 00:37:47 on the Covino and Rich Show about motivation and adversity. He says this team's embraced adversity, Seriani said yesterday, even going back to the 2023 season, which we haven't talked a lot about since the beginning of the year. We're grateful for that. We're thankful as bad as it sucked at the time. I know I'm grateful for that because it shaped us into who we are now. And a big reason why we're back here.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Embracing adversity is huge for your development as a person, as a player, as a coach. I love that they're starting to address this because everybody's so focused on the three-piece storyline. Nobody, except for us, Kavino and Rich, are really focused on the fact that the Eagles get a second chance at redemption, man. And that motivating factor is real. The fact that they get a chance to win and the fear of losing again, that's such great motivation that we are just, I think, undermining here in this story.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Well, the progression of the Eagles is interesting, right? Two years ago, they're in the Super Bowl. Then you counted them out. They're won Jalen Hertz, fumble away from winning. They're one BS call away from a tie at the end of the game instead of the Chiefs winning on the final drive. Then the next year, again, The locker room lost.
Starting point is 00:38:59 They get killed in the second half of the year, losing the wild card. And you're like, oh, maybe the Eagles trajectory is down. And here they are in the Super Bowl again. So Nick Siriani, there is something to be said. I saw an interesting clip on social media about how, if you're a dad or a mom, letting your kid go through adversity is so important. Like if you are there, like, as a pillow every time they fall, or if they're having problems with sports or academics,
Starting point is 00:39:23 like letting your kid struggle at times is very important. And you're right, sometimes losing. is important in the process. All right, let's wrap it up with the NBA. The Lakers are now 2 and 0 at the Clippers New Intuit Dome after crushing the Clippers last night, 122 to 97. That's nine wins in the Lakers' last 11 games. LeBron said, though, that when he went to the bench
Starting point is 00:39:42 for his first breather, it was very strange to not have his usual seat right next to his buddy, AD, but that a smiling Luca helped him make the adjustment. And he also said, I thought the trade news was for sure fake. I thought it was a hoax. people messing around or whatever. But then when AD called me and FaceTime me and talked, and we talked for quite a while, and even when I got off the phone with him,
Starting point is 00:40:05 it still didn't seem real. I like the body language he's shown with Luca, again, pointing after some big plays yesterday, pointing to him on the bench. Whenever I see your smiling face. No, no, you want that. You know, they got to build some chemistry, and it was a good start last night,
Starting point is 00:40:20 even though they're not on the court together. But the other side story, Danny G., maybe we'll talk about it later on, is Brony hit his first three. Yeah, I saw that. He hit his first three, man. Look, that's all coming together, guys. Best garbage time player ever.
Starting point is 00:40:32 You know, we might talk about that. I find it to be true, because when he's on the court, you're tuned in, and it's exciting. Perfect. And that was your herd line news. Kavino and Rich in for Colin on the herd. Now, coming up, I'm excited about this as a 49ers fan. Fred Warner is going to be driving. Fred Warner, not only is he the heart and soul of the 49ers defense,
Starting point is 00:40:56 we've got to talk about a lot of stuff. his beautiful wife, former bachelor contestant. I want to know if his social media game is strong. Got to talk about the 49ers' weak-ass schedule in 2025 as a fan. I feel like they should win 13 games. I mean, you would think so, yeah. Owen 2 in the Super Bowl courtesy of the Chief, so does he hold a lot of hatred towards Mojones and Kelsey and these guys?
Starting point is 00:41:19 So we'll talk to Fred Warner, best linebacker in the NFL. Also, Vince Wilfork, a guy that's been to four Super Bowls, won two of them. A lot of action-pack fun coming up. Kavino and Rich, in for the herd. Right here. Fox Sports Radio, live from New Orleans. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. And together we're Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You can catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific, on Fox Sports Radio and, of course, the IHeart Radio app. Why should you listen to Kavino and Rich?
Starting point is 00:41:58 We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world? We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? So check us out. We like to get you involved too. Take your phone calls, chop it up as they say. I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Maybe the most interactive show on planet Earth. Be sure to check out Covino & Rich live on Fox Sports Radio and the IHeart Radio app from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific. And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich wherever you get your podcast and, of course, on social media. That's Covino and Rich. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news.
Starting point is 00:42:43 What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide.
Starting point is 00:42:55 of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band
Starting point is 00:43:13 before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:43:24 And then I wrote down, on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:43:51 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:44:11 Keith Giamonka seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy, but I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No, I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life?
Starting point is 00:44:53 that is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier.
Starting point is 00:45:27 than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store. I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes. In Rebel Spirit, season two goes deep on both of those things, the fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space.
Starting point is 00:45:59 We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2
Starting point is 00:46:12 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, we're Kavino and Rich. In for Colin on the herd. Live from Media Rose, Super Bowl 59, in New Orleans. Normally Monday through Friday, 5 to 7 on the east, 2 to 4
Starting point is 00:46:31 in L.A. Colin is in route. Yes, yes, yes. In fact, we'll see him tonight at a party. In fact, I'm very excited about that to party with Colin and all the stars. But yeah, we're in for Colin now, and we're still doing our regular show later on,
Starting point is 00:46:45 so join us then. And you can follow our New Orleans adventures at Covino and Rich, because we've met a lot of people. You know, it's a whole scene. We did opening night. We party with some of the Fox Sports crew yesterday. And again, today is the day where people start piling in.
Starting point is 00:47:01 There's a thick buzz in the air and lots of superstars walking around. And later on today's show, we're still joined by Vince Wilfork and Fred Warner stopping by. So again, I'm Steve Covino. And that's Greg Olsen's walking by. It's one of those days where you can see everyone passing by. Hey, what's up, Greg? Yo, what's up, man? You owe me 20 bucks.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Yo, and that's Rich Davis. Danny G is super producing and thank you guys again for hitting us up at Fox Sports Radio at Covino and Rich. You miss Pooka Nakua. He stopped by. Catch that on the podcast. He was a lot of fun. But, you know, we went from Puka to Luca and I'm real excited to see what Luca does this weekend and real excited to see if there's any updates from Danny G about other moves made in the NBA. But let's switch gears a little bit. Let's get off of Puka and Luca. Because we still got to talk Brony later on and more LeBron and Fred Warner. Facebook turned 21 this week. Your boy, Mark Zuckerberg.
Starting point is 00:48:03 That's my guy. That's Rich's boy. Well, they go way back. I just think it's interesting. A lot of people don't know. Rich was the third Vinklevoss. It's true. No, but I think it's wild that, you know, nerdy dude, college dorm room.
Starting point is 00:48:16 I remember getting that book in college. It was just a book of freshman faces. And you're like, yeah, who's the hot girls? And you'd look through like a little creepo. when you were 19, 18 years old. He takes this idea, I'm like, I was a billionaire now. So we're talking 21 years later. Yeah, Facebook is
Starting point is 00:48:31 old enough to drink now. That's wild when you think about it. I'm just thinking about now in 2025. Think of any time you meet someone with their new girlfriend or boyfriend. They're like, oh, how'd you guys meet? The answer
Starting point is 00:48:47 now, nine out of ten times is Tinder, Bumble. It's always some type of, oh, slid into my DMs. That's how people meet now. Now, rewind, you know, 10, 20 years, if you met someone online, that was something you hated. Like, that was, like, the secret. Like, tell them we met at a bar.
Starting point is 00:49:07 Super Bowl week. We're here in New Orleans. Are people still swiping if they're single, opposed to actually meeting people at Super Bowl parties? Probably, because now we're conditioned to do that. And I would say if you're a single guy, you just try everything. You know, cast and that, yeah, use all your weapons possible to make this happen. I'm also wondering now, is it just as odd to meet someone in person as it was to meet someone online in 2004?
Starting point is 00:49:39 Because most people, like you said, Rich, aren't really meeting or taking it to the next level in person anymore. It's more of that connection you build as a text relationship or in and out of the DMs and that sort of thing. Bro, we just got back from Las Vegas for the Benavitas fight. Yeah. We were meeting up with some buddies. This is Las Vegas. Like the capital of, like, I'll be honest, like, easily meeting people. Like, you're looking at the casino.
Starting point is 00:50:04 There's booty passing left and right. People are drinking, having fun. And we still had friends that are swiping. Like, yeah, let's see who's here. Let's see who's here. It's a different world then. In reality, not to be cliche. Facebook, which turned 21, changed the world,
Starting point is 00:50:16 and it made us go from a social network to almost anti-social. in real life. And it's a weird scene and a weird observation to make, but it also makes you think of how long it's been around now, and that's why this is the way of the world. Again, since 2004, it's 21. So take it back to 2004.
Starting point is 00:50:37 What were you up to? You know, that's when the Red Sox won. That's when the curse was lifted. You and I began our radio career together in 2004. That's when Rich and I started working together professionally. If you wanted to take it back to 2004? That was the Super Bowl where... Tom Brady and the Patriots beat the Panthers.
Starting point is 00:50:56 So it's been a lot has happened, yeah. And to answer my own question, I do think it's almost as odd. And, oh, well, old-fashioned. It's just as odd now when you hear that someone met in person. Like, hey, how did you guys meet? For a young couple to say, well, oh, we met at a bar or we met at a club. Or, you know, I was at the gym and I met this guy. That's just as odd now as it was to meet someone,
Starting point is 00:51:20 that taboo sort of weird feeling you got. when people were admitting they were meeting each other online or on Facebook in 2004 in the early 2000s. I'm glad you brought it up to break up the NFL and the NBA a little bit because it is the 21st anniversary of Facebook launching. And I'm sorry, the Facebook back in the day. It just is interesting to think. And it went from a place to meet people and hook up to now know what your aunt Sharon thinks about politics. But honestly, social media led into the dating apps. And according to Forbes, Danny G.
Starting point is 00:51:49 to pulled up an article. We're talking about more than 50% of people say they met their most recent partner on an app. Yeah. I'm not surprised. So proof is of the pudding. Just throwing it out there. So a little timestamp here on the Kavino and Rich show. Oh, and speaking of which? Look at this. What a transition I got. Fred Warner joining us next.
Starting point is 00:52:07 Yeah. Apparently he met his beautiful wife by sliding into her DMs. Yeah, so we're going to talk to Fred Warner, 49ers, best linebacker in the NFL. Next, in for Colin on the herd, Kavino and Rich. Meteoroe. New Orleans. More next. Hang tight. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:52:34 We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
