We hail it as the greatest Thursday night game ever. Then we backpedal set its top five. Certainly one of the most entertaining. and joining me as always, Joy Taylor. You thought last night's performance was amazing. If you're listening on radio only, you need to rush to a television set to see Joy Taylor. Now, what is this character?

So I'm a snake, but it's kind of become like a snake mermaid vampire situation. But I am a snake. That's what the snake skin is for. But listen, I have to go all out. A beautiful snake, by the television, and you can't go halfway. Look at that. behave yourself or I'll bite. That's right.

Watch out for snakes. Well, that was, I think both of us, that was amazing last year. It was incredible. There was a moment in the game last night that was funny. I was like, I watched it with a bunch of Arizona Cardinal fans. And they were frustrated all night. And at one point, I said, God, Aaron's really playing well. And then I looked down, he had 71 yards passing.

I'm like, what? That won't qualify in the top 100 games of productivity for Aaron Rogers. 20 years from now at a bar, nobody will ever talk about that. That is the single most impressed I've ever been with Aaron Rogers in his entire career. That was the moment. When you take somebody's assets away, I love Mahomes. If you took Travis Kelsey, Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, out of the lineup. up. You're not getting that. I love

Josh Allen. If you took Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, Stefan Diggs, say, go to Arizona and beat the Cardinals. You're not winning that game. He was missing his top three receivers. They were missing 11 starters. His

best tight end got hurt mid-game. They didn't have their defensive coordinator. They go on the road against a great team, by the way, and win it. And the time of possession, 37 minutes, you had no deep threat. Arizona knew you had no deep threat. It had almost a, and this is a compliment, you know, Aaron's always been prettier than Favre. Aaron's game is beautiful. It's like art.

You know, Farr's game had a real kind of Midwestern, scrappy ethos to it, right? Last night felt farvish. It was kind of ugly and it was a lot of clever, quick stuff and Aaron's running and getting banged around in the game. It was not pretty. But that's the most impressed I've ever been with Aaron Rogers. Arizona actually felt a little like Green Bay. What do we always say about Green Bay once or twice a year when they face a physical team? They get pushed around. Green Bay pushed Arizona around.

But listen, this is really, Aaron had a very interesting summer, but he bet on Randall Cobb, that paid off. He bet on himself, that's paid off. And there's a lot of talented quarterbacks in this league. But I'm going to tell you something. One other guy in this league could have won that game, Tom Brady. That's it. that was manipulation line of scrimmage, incredible harmony with the head coach.

You know, Belichick's made a career on taking away your offense's number one asset. They call it playing left-handed. Belichick makes you play left-handed. Okay, Aaron didn't have either hand. He was handless. He didn't have his best receiver, his second, his third, his tight end. Goes on the road and wins that game. A.J. Dillon, by the way.

ended up having a great night. Green Bay has to feel great about themselves because they don't have a couple of their defensive stars. And I will say this. I've said this about Aaron Rogers before. Once or twice a year, I feel like he checks out. Like last year, they went to Tampa. It was a windy day in Tampa.

He threw a couple of early picks. And Aaron just kind of checks out. It's just like, you know, he'll kind of stand by himself. He holds his jersey. But what he did last night, he talked to Aaron Andrews before the game. And he had said, like our chances because nobody else is giving us one. And I do think teams feed off that. They feed off your leader. And I think sometimes when I've watched Aaron kind of check out,

I think teams check out. You can tell when you're in a room, a locker room, you're at home, somebody you're close to checks out. You can see it, the body language. But Aaron last night, no DC, no tight end, midgame, no receivers, 11 starters out was all in. And I think that belief spread through the locker room. By the way, Green Bay, I've always said, I always know they're good with Aaron. I'm never impressed with their good. And I always knew, no, they play with the lead well. But when you're, last night was a street fight. And Green Bay doesn't win all those street fights. They lose a lot of those street fights. And it was almost a throwback, Favre-ish game. And I've always said I prefer Aaron over Fav. I think, you know, analytically, he makes better throws,

mistakes, better pre-snap, less ad-living, but that is as impressive a win as I've ever seen from Aaron Rogers. And it, I mean, again, you look at the productivity, it'll never go down. They'll never do a blogger. I'll never write Aaron's 10 best games. This will never be included. It won't even make the honor roll. That blew me away.

And I want to go to a bite that Aaron had after the game. And it wasn't necessarily about the game. It was about the Packers. So let's play this bite. I love this bite. The one thing I will share that I said was, and I thought about this and one of our guy that works, been working at the stadium for a long time,

and I had a conversation about this years and years ago, but the G that's on our helmet and on our jersey travels with you. And I just reminded of the guys, you know, because a lot of guys will be leaving town maybe for a couple days, kind of getting away. just remember how special it is to wear that G and when you leave you take that G with you and it doesn't just stay in Green Bay

travels with you, represent the team the right way. Well, half the stadium was Packer fans so the G does travel very well on planes to wherever the Packers are playing. But I suggested something earlier this week so I don't want to sound like I'm jumping on some bandwagon or hyperventilating here. So I suggested earlier this week before this game

because I thought Green Bay last night was going to go on the road and they're missing all these starters. I'm like, this could get ugly. This could be one of these Green Bay goes on the road and just gets rolled. So what I'm going to suggest is something I suggested earlier this week, but I'll say it again. It's time to sit down with Aaron Rogers, working a new deal, give them a ton of guaranteed money,

and trade Jordan love. Listen, drafting is an inexact science. Belichick and Pete Carroll have a dozen players they've whipped on. Everybody makes big mistakes. The key is, don't double down on him. Jordan loves not special. We'd know if he was. Jordan loves not playing.

If he looked like Kyler Murray at practice or Joe Burrow or, I mean, we were hearing, Peter Schrager was telling me in training camp, forget the season, he was telling me in Patrick Mahomes' training camp, he was telling me, this kid's going to take the league over. I'm like, Peter, he didn't even win at Texas. He's like, he's going to take the league over. You haven't heard anything from Jordan Love. Everybody makes mistakes.

Just don't double down on the mistakes. And I'll admit this. I love angry Aaron when he's chirping and I like happy Aaron. I thought the summer of Aaron was kind of dramatic and kind of tedious. But whatever mechanism it takes for anybody in life to get to the spot they need to mentally, emotionally, intellectually, whatever it takes for you to get there, that's what works for Aaron. and it worked. And there's a term called couples therapy. It's time for Green Bay to sit down and have couples therapy.

Give them guaranteed money. Folks, Tom Brady said this past week, he said the league's become a skill competition. Who's probably the most skilled quarterback in the league? It's not Brady. It's either Mahalms or it's Aaron Rogers. You can't let that walk out the door. And by the way, I would say this.

Aaron's not going to find the harmony he has with Matt LaFleur. He's not going to find it in Pittsburgh or Denver. That's not a knock on Tomlin or Denver's next coach. You watched that game last night. I mean, that was like symphonic. That was just like, I mean, I didn't love, I still don't understand going into the shotgun at the half yard line. But the symmetry, McVeigh and Stafford, you know, Lefleur and Aaron Rogers, Ariens. and Brady, you're not going to find that on the market.

Everybody's looking for that. Matt Stafford was trying to find the young guy he could work with. Aaron's found it. And I will also say this to defend the Packers. They do a really good job on drafting, way better than average, way, way better than average. They rarely draft a offensive lineman in the first round. And outside of New England, I think the Packers have had the most consistent offensive lines 20 years in the NFL. And it's not like they're going out and getting left tackles with the third pitch. thick. Half these guys are fourth, fifth, six. It doesn't matter. They're tight end.

They get those guys in the fourth, fifth, six. This is a good place. And Green Bay has got to admit, their front office has to admit. Sit down in a room. Don't double down on your mistakes. Move Jordan Love. Sign Aaron do a great contract and just say, A, we communicated poorly. We're sorry. B, admit to yourselves. Jordan Love's not special. We'd know if he was. C. Aaron still is. He's seven years younger than Tom Brady. And Brady is throwing the ball. I said it last weekend. That's the best I've seen Brady throw a ball.

What are you doing? What are we doing here? Just have couples therapy. Just admit Green Bay, you made a mistake. Aaron bet on Aaron. And Aaron won. Hell, even the Randall Kopp thing, which I thought, 10 million for Randall Cobb.

That works. Everybody makes mistakes. Just don't double down on them. Don't be Twitter. I'm never wrong. I'm wrong all the time. I have a segment, I admit it. Green Bay, you messed up.

It's okay. Good God. Pete Carroll's going to go to the Hall of Fame. He's going to go to Canton. Look at their last six first round picks. Belichick. He can't draft a wide receiver tied end since Grunk. It's okay.

You know, you lose a defensive end or a great receiver or a corner. And there's good losses. And Arizona, that's about as good a loss as you can have. I don't think anything less of Arizona. Green Bay's offensive line mostly controlled the game. J.J. Watt was out. Green Bay's defensive line controlled it. They dominated time of possession. Yet Arizona came within

a play of winning the game, which is crazy. It made no sense to me. I thought Green Bay played brilliant football, had no turnovers, not many pedilies. I controlled the time of possession. I mean, I didn't love their play calling near the goal line. I thought they were too finesse. The fact that Arizona almost won that game, Arizona is now also 7 and 1. Their resume is great. They've got wins over Tennessee, a dominating win in L.A. over the Rams. They beat Cleveland. The fact they took the ball at the one yard line, DeAndre Hopkins not around, drove 99 yards, and got within one weird play at the end where it looks like the receiver thought it was a running play, even though it was clearly a passing play.

I don't think Arizona has nothing to hang their hat on. To me, it didn't feel like it was their night. They averaged, when DeAndre Hopkins was in the game, they averaged 11 yards of play. I could make an argument if DeAndre Hopkins was just in the game for the final play of the game, they would have won the game. But the idea they just drove, because I think Green Bay's defense played really well most of the night,

the fact they drove down the field, I mean, I kept watching that game, And my takeaway was, oh, these are two of the top three or four teams in the NFL. That's all that was. Somebody had to lose this thing. We've seen this years and years ago. I remember watching Baltimore and the Patriots play and, you know, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and Brady and Grunk. It's seven, eight years ago.

And I think New England won in Foxborough. And I remember thinking if it was in Baltimore, Baltimore would have won. Those are the two of the three best teams in the league. That's as good a loss as you can have. My only concern with Arizona, the good news they have. 10 days off. My only concern with Arizona is Kyler Murray got hurt last year. Kiler Murray got hurt last night. Kyler Murray is limping around. Kyler Murray, you know, Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray are good comps, both baseball players, little small, slide well, throw a beautiful ball.

Russell's never limping. And Russell just now is hurt for the first time I can ever remember college or pro. Kyler takes more hits. What he asks of his body is clearly more taxing. that's my only concern. But I, you know, this is the kind of win. If this was college football, I wouldn't move Arizona down one spot in the poll. I would not, I could make an argument depending on what happens to the rest of the league. I'd move them up. I mean, listen, the stadium was 50-50.

I mean, there were times when Arizona had the ball that was louder. The crowd was louder screaming than it was when Aaron Rogers had the ball. It was not really necessarily your classic home game. So Arizona blew me away. DeAndre Hopkins, 11 yards of play. One more plays in the game late. They're going to them in the corner. They may win that football game.

Joy with the News. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Happy Halloween, guys, with those of you seeing me for the first time. She's a snake. I am a snake. I know I kind of look like a mermaid vampire thing, but I'm supposed to be a snake.

Patrick Mahomes had one of the worst games of his career last week. He did. The 27-3 loss of the Titans. But he didn't. take responsibility for his poor offensive performance and he's assured his teammates that they're going to turn things around I mean you can just watch the tape and know that I need to play better in order to have success I mean there was plays where guys were open there's plays we had matches downfield that I

didn't hit that I usually would give those guys opportunities to make plays so I said stuff to them saying that I got to be better but at the same time they have that that mindset they're gonna try to build me up so I mean it's it's a it's a thing where you're not gonna play your best game every single game and that's when you really have to rely on those other guys to kind of step up and make place for you. Well, Patrick Mahomes, the last three games, has a 62.5 completion percentage, has 875 yards, four touchdowns, five interceptions, and two fumbles loss.

Last week, he was 20 of 35 or 206 yards, no touchdowns, one interception and one fumble loss. He's tied with Zach Wilson for the most interceptions this season with nine. He only threw six all last season. So he is clearly pressing more. He is clearly turning the ball over more, which, You know, when you are a good team, you can turn the ball over and it's not all equal, but their defense is struggling as well, allowing 29 points per game.

They're tied with the Texans for the fifth most in the league and are allowing over 400 yards per game, 404.6 yards per game, which is the fifth most in the league. So when you're turning the ball over and your defense can't stop anyone, that's going to amount to losses. Now, do I still think this is correctable with the chiefs? yes, I'm not going to completely jump off the bandwagon yet, but it is starting to trend in that direction where we all could have a healthy concern about the Chiefs. And they don't look like a Super Bowl team right now.

And I think that's fair. Now, they are favored by nine against the Giants on Monday night, according to Fox Bet, which feels right. And I do think that they'll win this game convincingly. But there's a lot of pressure on the Chiefs this week. If they don't perform well against the Giants, it's going to start to be panic mode. Yeah, I mean, the way to correct a problem,

it doesn't matter if you're a landscaper or a quarterback. is to acknowledge an issue. I always said, the healthiest thing about Kansas City, this is why it'll get corrected, because Patrick Mahomes is smart, has self-awareness. We talk about this. Russell Westbrook's a great player. His lack of self-awareness drives me crazy.

Westbrook, there are issues he doesn't get past. It doesn't matter what you do. When you could acknowledge, yeah, I'm not playing well, I got to get better. It'll get solved. Because we know he's physically capable. Stuff always get solved in life. If you acknowledge, wow, I'm really doing this

poorly. All right, I just get better at it because we've seen him be better at it so we know we can get better at it. That's the issue and he's fine. Like I trust Patrick Mahomes, so therefore I trust he'll solve his issue. Well, yeah, I trust smart people. Yeah, exactly. That's exactly it.

But he's not denying that they're having issues and that's, to your point, that's where it starts. But he's smart. Andy Reid is smart and they're champion, so they'll figure it out. But it's not, that's just one side of the ball. He has nothing to do with the defense, but him turning the ball over to a defense that's struggling constantly is amounting to more issues, which is what they need to fix. So Doc Prescott's been working through a cap strain in practice this week.

The team has not made a final decision on whether he's going to get the start against the Vikings, but he is hoping to play on Sunday night. Today I pushed it. Today, I mean, yeah, I didn't go half or 75 percent. I went all, and I just told myself that if something was going to happen, I'm going to do it today, but I needed to fill the full goal. And I did that. And I've taken team reps and as I said in the walkthrough, taking every,

every rep and a walk through. If this was the end of a season and you were in a playoff race or you need a playoff positioning or the playoffs, do you think the thresholds would be a little different? 100%. It'd be no question. That's interesting to me that they asked him if this was a do-or-die week, if this was a playoffs, would he push through? I mean, they're in a great position.

They have a huge lead in their division and they're coming off of a buy. They don't necessarily need this game. They're favored by three against, or the Vikings are actually favored by three. according to Fox Bet. And this is not a game that they have to force him out there. Now, we also know how Kirk Cousins does in prime time. He shrinks. Not to pick on anybody.

I mean, you don't want to have your backup out there, obviously. But again, they're not in a pressure situation like the Vikings. So let me push back on this. So the AFC is deeper. There's more good teams. I mean, the Chargers may be fighting for their life to be a playoff team. Not a good team. Same with Cleveland.

And they're a very good team. The NFC is really good at the time. Tampa Bay, Dallas, Rams. We saw Green Bay last night. What you want to be in the NFC is you want to be a top three or four seed, because you want to open in the playoffs with like a Saints, a Kirk Cousins, a James Winston. That's going to be the wild card team. It's going to be Atlanta.

You do not want to open if you're a four seed. And right now, I think Dallas is like a four seed. So in a weird way, this is a really important game because if you, For instance, if you look at Tampa's schedule, take out Buffalo, they could run the table. Okay, you'd look at Green Bay schedule. It's tougher, but they get Kansas City next week and they still haven't solved their defensive problems. You may be fighting for a third four seed. Okay, if you get one of those seeds, you get a really nice opener.

Or you could open in Arizona or in Los Angeles. So to me, a calf injury, I think I would push him to play. I know it sounds crazy. But you don't want something He's coming off of a catastrophic injury from last year But that's not his calf No, but you know how these things go

When you have a catastrophic injury You compensate on the other side You start tweaking things He's, that's part of why the shoulder injury happened because he wasn't, he was throwing it so much Because he wasn't using his legs from the ankle injury So I would not push him This is a really long season

You've got a lot of games left You are in a great situation Not that any game is a throwaway to your point But you don't want to push him out there If he's not ready this is not a do-or-die situation. But you are a snake. Snakes sometimes slither around and don't...

Yeah, but I'm like a garden snake. I'm harmless. Okay. So the 49ers are in a rough situation right now. Obviously, Trailands is the future of the team, but he has a knee injury, and Jimmy Garoppolo is still getting the starts. And Steve Young thinks that the lack of a clear answer with that position is causing some panic in a locker room.

Maybe it's just me, but I can watch and feel the resiliency. And I could feel our locker room is not great. And I'm worried and it's fraught with terror because now six weeks in, Trey is still, I mean, he would be playing if he was ready to play because it's too late to turn. We're in because he's not ready. And now Jimmy, about two weeks ago when he heard his calf, I watched him and I just felt when he announced he was going to be out of a couple weeks that things have changed. So now, here we are. Now we set the stage, where do you go? Well, it's too late to turn back. Frought with T. Terror is not how you want to describe the setting of a locker room.

Here's what I would worry about. McVeigh and Stafford, oh, it's working. Yeah. Okay. Russell Wilson's amazing. Kyler's amazing. This is the best quarterback division in football, I would argue. If Treylands doesn't pop, you could be in a tailspin for six years.

I mean, I'm sorry, but. Yeah, but you don't, you can't, you also can't stick with Jimmy Garoppolo. No, as I'm saying, it's like. You took Trey in the draft. You better handle this with care because if this doesn't. doesn't work. And by the way, five first round quarterbacks, there's a history here. Two of them look like they're working. Trevor Lawrence looks really good. And Mac Jones is, I think, better early than we thought. That means two or three of these guys are not going to work.

We're not going to go five for five. It's never happened. It won't. Like, this thing doesn't work. We think San Francisco's this emerging, you know, it was a superpower. It's just stepping back for a minute. And it's like, boy, you better cross your fingers at Tray Lance works because this division, I'm sitting watching Stafford and Kyler. It's like, those are Hall of Famers right now. But here's the problem. You're right, and the division is very tough, but Tray Lance is a rookie. And you took him.

It's not like you made a trade for another veteran like Matthew Stafford and the Rams. You gave up first round picks for him. You have to make Tray Lance work. And now Jimmy Garapolo is mentally moving on. The team is moving on to. to Steve Young's point, there's complete confusion about what the current state of the team is. The fans are excited about Tray Lance. So you're in it now.

I mean, this is kind of a situation similar to Tua. Like, you've made this decision. You have to develop him, and that's going to take a little bit of time. Like, it's going to be a bumpy road for a little while. Even if Traleance is good, that division is serious. You're four of four for a while. You have to buckle in and be a little patient, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

San Francisco feels like four of the four for a while. rest of this year probably rest of next year yes yeah joy with the news well that's the news and thanks for stopping by the heard lie rights for the ringer he's got the slow news day video cast kevin clark one of my faves stopping by in a friday after a glorious performance you know i said this Kevin nobody's going to write a column 20 years from now and go 10 greatest performances by Aaron rogers and include this one it'll disappear into the ether but i said i'm always impressed with quarterbacks who do more with less. That may have been the most impressed I've ever been with Aaron Rogers.

After that game, I was like, there was a moment in the game last night, Kevin, when I was like, God, he's playing good. Oh, he's got 71 yards passing. I'm sorry, I'm way over my skis. But I was blown away by it. I mean, good God, they were missing 11 starters. I mean, what was your takeaway on just Aaron? Let's just start with Aaron and your takeaway.

And he's amazing. And he's one of the few guys in the league who can win a game almost by himself. Now, he has help. I mean, Green Bay, they built that. Aaron, you can stop watching now. Brian Guttencunce has done a really nice job going that team around him. Yeah. But he's one of these guys, and there's only four or five in the league who can win this sort of game. Now, it took a lot of luck. It took AJ Green making a rookie mistake in his 11th year in the NFL. But this was unbelievable. I totally agree.

I did not anticipate this sort of performance from Green Bay last night, and I got it. Yeah. You know, I said this that the draft has always been, I love college football, But I've, you know, you whiffed on half of these guys. The best GMs, Belichick, Pete Carroll have first round whiffs. Forget later whiffs. What you can't do in this league is double down or get stubborn. You know, Steve Kimes's like, all right, made a mistake, boom, next. And I think to myself, and I said this before this game last night.

So I said it like Tuesday. I said, it's time for couples therapy. Sit down. Don't double down on Jordan Love. If he was great, we would have heard about it. We were hearing about Mahomes at practice. Like, just say, Aaron. We screwed up.

We apologize. Here's guaranteed money. We're reworking your deal. We're going to trade Jordan Love. By the way, Garapolo got a second round, but you get something for him. I honestly do really believe this, that it really is time to just sit down and go, we botched it. We apologize.

I mean, you know, let's 37-year-old Aaron Rogers go to the market, Kevin. I don't think I'm overreacting on this. I really don't. Your thoughts? You're not overreacting. Since the beginning of 2019, which is a Matt Lerfer, Matt LaFleur took over. They are 33 and 7.

That's the NFL's best mark in that period. So, well, Fleur can coach. And listen, the grass is not always greener. I mean, we, Colin, I heard you talk about the University of Miami a couple days ago. And he said, they don't want to win. There's a lot of NFL teams who don't want to win. The Packers want to win. They're all in.

The first step towards winning the Super Bowl is wanting to win the Super Bowl. They've got one of the very good line. And defense, I think it's getting better. Devonte Adams, when he's playing, is one of the best receivers in football. this is set up for him. You think Denver's a better situation. You think Carolina's a better situation. Come on. If you're Aaron Rogers right now and you want to win a Super Bowl, and listen, I think Tom Brady has broken some minds of quarterbacks in this league. And I think that there's a legacy thing now where Russell Wilson or Aaron Rogers says, hey, you know what I want to do? I want to go to some random team with a good defense and good weapons, win a Super Bowl and show that it's me. It's not the coach. It's not the coordinator. It's not the GM. It's me. but Tom Brady is one of one.

And that was a unicorn of a situation. Aaron Rogers is in the best place for Aaron Rogers right now. And I hope that every party involved kind of sees that right now, Colin. Yeah. I got to tell you, I was sitting. I went over to a friend's house last night, and they're big Arizona Cardinals fans. And I just felt I was actually amazed at the end.

When Arizona drove down, I looked at them and I thought, you guys have been complaining for three and a half hours how miserable this night has been. You're going to win this game. And I was like, that was maybe the best loss of the season for a team. I looked at Arizona. I don't think, if they were, I said this, if this was college, I wouldn't move them one spot down in the rankings. I thought Arizona, it just wasn't their night. That's what it felt like to me.

What did it feel like to you? They were a couple yards away from a huge win. And AJ Green making a boneheaded mistake that he won't make again. is that that's an okay way to lose in the regular season. Kyla Murray is still completing over 60% of his deep passes. I think no one's even close. Matthew Stafford's at 53% to give you an idea. And by the way, that's come down in the last couple of weeks.

At one point it was over 70%. What you can do off of that is almost incalculable. You can do so many things because you're stretching the field vertically, horizontally. He's such an amazing athlete. But the passing to me is the thing. You saw DeAndre Hopkins get banged up yesterday. but he understands now how to play that deep ball when it goes.

I mean, listen, if Kyler plays in Jerry World right now, he might hit the Jumbo Tron, okay? Like, he is throwing it so high, and I think the receivers are really good at adjusting to that. Steve Kimes done a nice job in churning the receivers over the past couple of years to get the exact right fit, I guess you would say, for Kyler and sort of that offense. They're only going to get better, and so I'd be hugely encouraged. As you said, this was barely a home game for Arizona. It's more like a bowl game. You know, a neutral site bowl game worth 50-50. I think that this, you know, if you played this game 100 times, it would have gone 50-50.

And so if I'm Arizona, I feel pretty encouraged to be able to make that kind of statement. You know, I was, Joy and I were just talking about this is that when I watched the Niners on Monday night in a monsoon, despite Carson Wentz having a couple of bad, you know, turnovers, the coach never lost any confidence in him. They really coached aggressively. That's not the case with Garoppolo. You can tell Kyle gets very conservative, really pulls back. And I was thinking about this is that in the history of this league, a recent history, if you draft five quarterbacks in the first round, one's a star, two can play, two don't work.

Well, Mack Jones is working and Trevor Lawrence is really good. One of these guys isn't going to work. And I'm like, you start looking at that San Francisco thing, and I'm watching Kyler, and I'm watching Stafford and McVeigh. And Russell Wilson's a Hall of Famer, and I'm like, man, if this tray thing doesn't work, this could be a long tunnel. Where are you right now with who would you play, where the Niners are at? Right now, Kyle Shanahan's record is that of Mike Singletaries. We may like him more.

It ain't great. Where are you on the Niners, Lance Garoppolo, going forward? Yeah, I was just about to say the Singletary thing, because for as much as we brand Kyle Sanahan a genius, we haven't seen it this year. And if you were to watch the Colts and the 49ers play on Sunday, and you said one of these teams is tough, has a genius head coach who can maximize the quarterback position, you'd say, yeah, it's the Colts, okay? Because normally, normally the 49ers are that team. Kyle Shanahan just doesn't have it this year. I think the quarterback thing, as Steve Young alluded to, the quarterback thing has spread to every facet of the organization looks like. It looks like they're just

a little bit hesitant. They don't know what direction they're going in, and they need to make a decision. in my opinion, I think that's Trey Lance. You know, I'm starting to worry about Kyle Shanahan because I've said over and over again, I think he's one of the best minds in football. Well, if you need, and everyone says, oh, he's had some bad luck. If you need everything to go right for you,

if you need the perfect situation to be great, you're not that great. You know, I mean, there are guys in this league who win games they're not supposed to with the head coaching position because they can create something out of nothing. Now, he's done that at the quarterback position. He's made guys who are really bad quarterbacks

into productive ones. But from a team standpoint, he hasn't necessarily done that. He has not made a bad team into a good team on a weekly basis in any situation. And I kind of feel like at this point, I'm starting to worry long term about that. And if Trey Lance doesn't hit and you have to play him right now, I think things could get ugly. I still believe he's one of the best minds in football. But from a long-term vision thing here, I'm just not seeing much. No, I agree.

By the way, it looks like you're in a nice hotel room. You got a big story coming out? Where are you? This is my apartment. It's my apartment, Colin. It's very nice. It's got nice pictures and art here. Okay, very nice.

Like San Francisco, and I'm to the point now with San Francisco's season. I mean, as good as Arizona is in the Rams, I think I just put Trey Lansson. At this point, I think I just, I honestly think if they can't beat the bears this weekend with Garapolo. Well, he has to be healthy. Well, I mean, he's going to play this weekend. So if Garapolo plays and loses, let's just get this kid snaps. Well, he's not ready. We're not winning with the other guy. Like, it doesn't matter if he's ready or not. He's got playing. He's a rookie quarterback. When are you going to start developing it? Or you'll end up with a Tua situation.

He had to answer questions about it this week and did not do a great job. When asked about it, he stumbled around. And Mike Tomlin didn't want the USC job. It was very clear after 20 seconds. Both these coaches, Mel Tucker and James Franklin, are hot property. They're being asked about it. How do you, you know, their agents are obviously talking to people. And it's a weird position. I do like Michigan really, really close with a possible upset. This is great news for Baker Mayfield. I think Cleveland was going to beat Pittsburgh. Case Keenham played.

That's not the question. Cleveland's a much better team than Pittsburgh. Records throw them out. Cleveland's better than Pittsburgh. Baker Mayfield is expected to start Sunday. The fracture is healing. This is big for Baker because next week, it's at Cincinnati, and after that, it's at New England, and Mack Jones is playing really good football right now.

Those are tough games. You don't want Case beating the Steelers this week. weekend, which I think he would have done. And then you go on the road and lose, and all of a sudden, say what you want, Cleveland radio is going to go crazy. They're already starting to like, well, Baker wants back in. Baker got clear. This is a big for Baker.

I love them. I did not include this in my Blazing Five because I didn't think Baker was going to play. This would be my second best bet on the board. I think Cleveland's going to run Pittsburgh out of the stadium. So this is good. And it's good for Baker personally. You know, you can say it doesn't matter. everything matters.

Rumors and leaks and all this stuff is bad. I mean, we've watched Chicago this year. Dalton, Justin Fields, Nagy in trouble. Noise is bad in the NFL. Like the NBA, you always bake in noise. It doesn't really matter. If you got the players, you'll win games.

I mean, with the Miami Heat, there were stories going on every 15 minutes. But in the NFL, a lot of choreography, you need, you really need a lot of unity. Green Bay last night had great unity on the road, banded together. you don't want noise. You want Baker beating Pittsburgh. It's nice to see you, Case. Go sit down for the rest of the year.

Case Keenham. We love you as a backup. Put him in the rearview mirror. Give Baker the ball. And I think they'll win convincingly this weekend. Here's the other thing that is amazing. I don't even know if I should waste this now. It is crazy.

So, Devonte Adams has missed seven games with the Packers. They're seven and no. You start looking at the value of quarterback. quarterbacks in this league. Right now, the best quarterback, or at least the best performing quarterback, leads every single division. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Ryan Tannahill, Derek Carr's got a higher pass rating the Mahomes today. That's the only exception we think Mahomes is better. Dak Prescott, Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady, and Kyler Murray. And my point is, last night was an advertisement for the value of quarterbacks. So on Monday Night Football, the Seahawks and the Saints

were mostly healthy. But they didn't have very good quarterbacks. The game was unwatchable. Like, who wants it less? Last night, the Packers were missing 11 starters. Arizona was missing mostly DeAndre Hopkins, JJ Watt. It didn't matter. Both teams just moved the ball up in the field.

Like, the fact that Seattle gave up two first round picks for Jamal Adams looked silly. Green Bay 7-0 without Devonthe Adams, who I would argue is the first or second-best wide receiver in the league. it's that Carson Wentz is healthy, the cults are fine. The last four weeks, they've had all sorts of injuries, wide receivers out, safeties out, it doesn't matter. Carson Wentz is healthy and they can win games.

That's why I say about Denver, Washington, and the Steelers. I love the rosters. You can't take them seriously. This league now, this morning I was counting, is basically 14 halves and 18 have-nots. Now, New England and Jacksonville and Chicago think they have the right quarterback. can't count them yet, but we think they do. But the 14 halves are the 14 teams that I think are teams that have a Super Bowl capable quarterback.

Bingles, bills, bucks, cardinals, chargers, chiefs, colts, cowboys, Packers, Raiders, Rams, Ravens, Seahawks, Titans. Now, Seahawks, obviously, Russell's not playing, but when Russell plays, they're a half. And there's 18 teams, I'm sorry about Kirk Cousins, I don't put him there. And there's 18 teams, you can't really take them seriously. They would literally take a call tomorrow to upgrade a quarterback. So when you start looking at that game last night, how many starters were out? How many stars were out?

Green Bay still won. Arizona still moved the ball. Monday, teams were pretty healthy. Didn't have the quarterbacks. Literally was unwatchable. You cannot give up enough picks for a great quarterback. Aaron's on the market, give up eight. It just doesn't matter.
