Oregon coach Dan Lannning, Nick Wright, stops by, but we're going to start. Feels like the Lakers got dumped. Oh, gosh. It's painful. Here we go.

Little flirt. They went out and had drinks, flirted a little, got some appetizers. And Dan Hurley, he took their number, never called back. Just ghosted. They got ghosted by Dan Hurley. It happens. I mean, not to us, not to guys it does, but it happens to people out there. That's right.

It doesn't happen to us. So I was talking to, let's just say, an NBA insider of note. And he made a very interesting point to me about the league. He said, listen, we got a salary cap. We got CBA things. It's hard to make trades in this league. You're only as good in the NBA, he said, as your have-to's. And I thought, that's pretty interesting.

What does that mean? And so what it means is, let's say this is your have-to. Hey, we have to get Jalen Brunson a really good number two. That's a great have to. That's a great one. You got the real team. You got the core. You got Jalen Brunson.

But you have to get him if you want to win a title, a really good number two. That's doable. Here's another good one. We got to get Wemby some help on the perimeter. Well, you got Wemby. You got Popovich. Good ownership. That's a pretty good have to.

Hey, we have to sign Eric Spolstra to an extension. We have to get Luca some defensive help. Again, there's no perfect team, although Boston may be close. Those are half-toes, right? Everybody's got them in the NBA. Those are good have-toes. Currently today, these are the Lakers have-toes. We have to sign 39-year-old LeBron James 40 in December

to a three-year max contract, because he's our only elite playmaker. and if brawny's available, we'll have to draft him. That's the current state of the Lakers. That's it. You have to sign a 40-year-old, still really good, 40-year-old player to a max deal for three years, and you're going to have to draft brawny if he's available. And now you have to settle for probably,

since Dan Hurley ghosted you, you have to settle for probably your second, third, or fourth choice as a head coach. Those are the Lakers' realities. They also have one of the poorest ownership groups. The second largest front office in Los Angeles. Pretty light on draft capital. And since AD arrived, they're in the cross-your-fingers business with AD and his health.

Those are the realities of the Lakers. Okay, it's a little bit like the Dallas Cowboys. The expectations are high. Reality is low. And their roster is always a little bit overvalued. I mean, before these playoffs started, I can't tell you how many people said, I think this team's got a shot to go out to the Western Conference finals. They got, well, they matched up pretty well with Denver,

but we had told you if they played Denver early, they're going to lose in four or five games, and the coach is going to get fired potentially, and it happened. So if you, I've said this before, if LeBron takes a night off next year, with the current roster. Or AD takes a night off. That happens regularly. Austin Reeves is your second best player,

and he would not start for the Dallas Mavericks in their back court today or the Boston Celtics in their back court. He would not start for them. For the two finals teams in the back court. That would be the Lakers' second best player. So Dan Hurley, in a sport college basketball that's in transition, making half the money said no thank you so when you look around the NBA just ask yourselves this is the ultimate truth serum as the NBA insider told me what are your have-toes

hey we have to get aunt Edwards a second guy that's physically and emotionally 22 points a night that's a pretty good have-to do that's a pretty good have-to that's I got my coach. I got aunt. I got a defensive center. I got Mike Conley. What are your have-dos? That's what Dan Hurley turned down.

So I thought this was interesting. Interesting. Mike Tomlin signed an extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday. It was not met. It was not met with celebration from many. Mike Tomlin is what you call in the NFL a made man. he's a made man production can dip third in the division missed the playoffs he's okay and if you i've found this if you question tomlin at any point oh the old heads come roaring down the hill

to criticize you for a variety of reasons this is a sport that has fired andy reed who got to five nmc championships often mostly with average quarterbacks and a sport that just bailed on Bill Belichick who could not get another job with all those rings. Mike Tomlin, last three playoff wins. 2016, he beat Matt Moore and the Dolphins. That year he also beat Alex Smith, but they had no touchdown, six field goals. The year before they beat Cincinnati and A.J. McCarran. Last seven years, no playoff wins, four of them with Big Ben.

None, zero. but if you say anything other than that's a Hall of Famer, wow do you get pushback? And to me, what this really says isn't about Mike Tomlin. What it tells you is about the cultural of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Because I think Mike would be a star on TV, more than capable head coach,

but it is an offensive league, and the Steelers are always great defensively, always have a pass rush. Have they figured out their offensive line yet? It's been like six years. Do they have the right offensive coordinator? finally feels like it's been forever. Most of his allies, most of his buddies,

clearly on the defensive side. But think about this. We have kind of poked the Green Bay Packers in the ribs for wearing dockers, very conservative. But the Packers have bailed on both Aaron Rogers and Brett Farb with years left of high-end play. They bailed on a Super Bowl-winning coach, Mike McCarthy, and hired a young kid that we didn't know much

about handsome guy out of Tennessee. Those are big swings. For a little old conservative Green Bay. Big swings. I mean, compared to the Steelers, I mean, Green Bay is buying crypto. They're a tightwalker, a lion tamer, a bungee jumper. Compared to the Steelers, they're driving an EV. And in Pittsburgh's like, how many, let me check the odometer on my Honda Civic.

I mean, Pittsburgh by the Tomlin extension, and Mike can coach, great motivator, but it is interesting in a league where you are defined. I mean, Andy Reid got run out of Philadelphia, was arguably at that point. Well, he was the best coach in the NFC. Belichick's the best coach ever. Fire. I mean, I know he's never had a sub-500 season, but if you even push back a little on Mike Tomlin, the old heads come roaring down the valley and it's like big ben four years no playoff wins as half the afc was trying to find their next quarterback and with the top 10 defense five of

those seven years nothing no playoff wins a j mccarron map more no touchdowns i mean it's i i'm okay with it i'm not losing sleep but you start looking at that division, Stefansky got Cleveland to playoff win. John Harbaugh. He went a lot of games. I don't know. It, it,

Jack Taylor got to a Super Bowl with a bad offensive line. But I am not here to question it, because I know what happens when you just say, really, an extension? A little heat? You know, it is what it is. But it does tell me a lot about the Steelers. who are probably more fearful of failure, right?

Sometimes you're missing the head coach. Then they are willing to elevate potentially, offensively, at least at a league minimum. Steelers have been on quite a role of bad offensive play for some time. Fear drives a lot of decisions in this league. Um, J. Mack, I saw this this morning.

This was interesting. We're all hypocrites. I've said this. Everybody's a little bit morally flexible. We all are. You know, when anybody takes the moral high ground, give me a break.

And, and, um, we're all hypocrites, right? You could dig deep into any of our lives and go, well, you stand for this,

but why do you support that? But it is interesting how the WNBA complain for, For years, about three things. One's been solved by Caitlin Clark, and the two others will be. And nobody's calling them out for it until our next segment. Be careful. Be careful calling out the WNBA.

I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. They're finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.

So I thought this was interesting. You know, Caitlin Clark has been left off the Olympic team. People are taking sides. What a shame. I don't like sports debate. Anywho, the WBNBA announced.

that their TV ratings and their attendance are shattering records now with Caitlin Clark. The television viewership three and a half times, greater than last year. Merchandise sales up 756% because of Caitlin Clark. I was thinking about this. If the WNBA is the cake of women's basketball, the Olympics is the icing. It's only once every four years. All cakes are a little better with icing, but cakes are edible without icing,

but every cake's probably a little better with icing, right? So not putting Caitlin Clark on the woman's basketball team is not going to crush the WNBA. But clearly it would help the WNBA if we met and recognized more of their really good players. here's where I find the absolute hypocrisy with the WNBA, its players, its fans, and its media. For years, you can look it up. We did this morning.

Found multiple arguments. Multiple articles. For years, the WNBA players lamented their salaries. Were outraged by their second class travel, often criticized. the media for not covering them. So those were the three big knocks. We don't make what the guys make them even close. Our travel stinks.

And frankly, our salary should be better. Well, Caitlin Clark's already solved one of those. The attention thing. She's kind of solved for two years the travel thing. They're now going to chart her planes. Don't you think you could get maybe a five? to a 10-year upgrade in travel, if Caitlin went to the Olympics,

introduced eyeballs to all these excellent players that you don't really follow? I mean, did you really know Mary Lou Retton before the Olympics? She was a top gymnast. The Olympics, like March Madness, often introduces us to athletes we didn't know much about. Maybe we've heard of, never watched. But, I mean, complaining of. about your second class travel, lack of attention and salaries, you have this player that can elevate all of them,

and you're like, well, she may not be one of the top 15 players. Oh, we're quite precious, aren't we? That'd be like being a 25-year-old. Nobody offers me a good job. Somebody does me, you're like, well, I don't like the hours. They wouldn't give me three weeks off, just two. Yeah, you don't get everything in life. Even the Kansas City Chiefs had to move off Tyreek Hill.

They couldn't afford his salary. Even Tom Brady to win Super Bowls took a little bit of a pay cut. Even LeBron James had to leave Cleveland in Akron, his hometown for Miami to win titles. The WNBA wants all sorts of things. Now has an opportunity to ensure all three of them. You don't think introducing players over the Olympics 20 million viewers per game couldn't help you in TV contracts, extensions of broadcasting?

A little? I mean, a little? If you're going to complain about stuff, use Google, it's a search engine. This morning I found article, here's an article, layover, cramp seating security lines, a day with players on a WNBA commercial flight.

Kaelin got you two years upgrade. Maybe if people watched, the other players. Like, I really like them. They're really cool. I mean, you already saw in Las Vegas, the Aces. The Chamber of Commerce gave every woman on that team like a Hyundai. Like every, they're like, we like these girls. They're part of the community.

If not national endorsements, local endorsements. I mean, it's the hypocrisy is alarming. Brady didn't get everything he wants. Mahomes and Andy Reid don't get everything they want. Connor McGregor doesn't get every fight in his prime that he wants. Tiger Woods didn't win every tournament and every sponsor he wanted in his prime. You don't get everything.

Yes. You'd have to find a place for Caitlin Clark on the Olympic team. You'd have to squeeze in the kid. You don't get everything. You'd have to squeeze her in. I don't think that's a big ask. Having to squeeze maybe the 24th best player on a 15, 12-person roster.

Here's Diana Tarasi on Caitlin Clark being left off the team. The game of basketball is all about evolving. It's all about getting comfortable with your surroundings. And, you know, college basketball is much different than the WBA than it is overseas. Each one almost is like a different dance you have to learn. And once you learn the steps and the rhythm and you have a skill set that is superior than everyone else, everything will fall in place. Yeah, but sometimes you skip steps, you know, when you want to get stuff done. when you want to elevate stuff,

when you want a 10-year deal to get better travel, or better TV salaries, or, you know, more publicity. It wouldn't be the first time in sports. We've skipped a step or two. J-Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. It's so funny, Colin, how they're like afraid of Caitlin Clark. There's just afraid of her coming in and actually playing well and being a superstar that we know she is. They've gotten suddenly women's basketball has gotten very rigid. And it's guys, guys, don't get rich. I mean, we've watched the NFL change a rule during the Super Bowl.

The Eagles Patriots Super Bowl. Remember the catch rule? That year it blew up. Everybody was outraged. Then in the Super Bowl, all of a sudden the Eagles were bouncing stuff and they let it be a catch. The NFL's done a better job than any leak. And they're in the power seat. They are constantly evolving, changing.

rules, making it a better television product. We're watching baseball, by the way. Baseball's like, we're going to put a runner on second base. What? We're going to have a pitch clock, huh? Like, baseball's all about history. Baseball's like, we're going to tweak some stuff. Sometimes you skip steps. You make exceptions. Companies do that all the time for employees.

They make exceptions. I looked up the last gold medal game that they played in. The stadium was half full. For the Olympic game, by the way. Half full. I mean, think about this. You know it's, in Paris, it's packed. Let's say I'm a starter on the women's Olympic basketball team, which has won like seven straight medals.

But I'm like the fifth starter. The average fan, sports fan, not just average person, average sports fan of America, I have no idea who that is. None. You would after the Olympics. I mean, sir, you would. You may not have known all of Taylor Swift songs or any of them. But by the time she had her tour, your daughters, your friends, your friends. friends, your wife, you knew kind of a few songs on her playlist.

Like, introduction to stardom is why these leagues, this is why the NFL's always loved college football. It introduces you to Baker Mayfield. Whether he succeeds or not, by the time Tebow and Baker get to the NFL, it's like, let's put him on television. I mean, Cleveland Brown Games, first year is a rookie. Baker was all over commercials. Baker was all over television.

NFL didn't push back on it. Go look at Caleb Williams. Is Caleb Williams one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL? No, not top 10. He's all over the TV schedule. Why? NFL's like, Jim Harbaugh, chargers were terrible last year. Go look at their schedule. Made to order for Harbaugh.

You make exceptions. You tweak. That's just sports. That's just business. Smart business, yeah. All right, let's go to bad business in my New York Jets. Mandatory minicamp kicked off this week. And there were two notable unexcused absences.

One of them was Hassan, who they got from the Eagles. He wants a new contract. That's contract. The other was Aaron Rogers. Oh, interesting. Robert Sala says the absence is unexcused, and that it's for a previous engagement that is, quote, really important to Rogers. So let me ask you, was he not the player who was quoted at the end of last year, or it may have

been on the offseason. I'm not going to use the word he used. He goes, but we got to get anything, all this BS. that's non-football out of the building. Ironically, he's not in the building today for minicamp. He was the guy that said that all football, but he's probably doing a non-football event and not there as the starting quarterback, off a year in which he didn't play.

And, of course, the Jets are putting it out through reporters. Well, Aaron was here over the weekend for photos. He's been around all spring. He's been here. It's just the camp is here, and it coincides with a, apparently a political event it's still unclear exactly what the event is that'll come out here

the event is clearly a non-football the stuff that he lectured teammates on again we're all hypocrites you know in life you dig deep enough every politician every person is a hypocrite and I'm as morally flexible as everybody else but don't be very careful about lecturing people as a politician or a star and entertainer

and then you're kind of like doing what you warned and lectured others about. He used the word BS, the full word, all this non-football BS, get it out of the building. Well, this is non-football. Where are you? The Jets essentially pay him for six months of work. He's getting what, 20, 30, 40 million? I don't know, six months. Is that too much?

Is it less than six? I'm just going June-ish through December-ish, six months? He had all offseason to do all this political stuff. It's disappointing. I'm trying not to get too triggered by it. But Rogers, anyways, let's move on to Brandon Ayuk and the Niners, Colin. Ayuk's looking for a long-term deal.

He wants to get paid because Justin Jefferson got paid. AJ Brown got money. A lot of other receivers landed new deals. But according to Mike Silver, the 49ers' latest offer to Ayuk was in the $26 million per year range. That's reasonable. Putting him below Amaran San Francisco.

Brown below AJ Brown and Iyuk is not having any of that. That's what that feels very fair to me. He was an all pro receiver last year. Oh, okay. 28, 26 per year puts him below Cooper Cup, we've got a contract years ago, below Devante Adams, who has an old contract, below Jalen Waddle? He's better. I think he deserves more than Jalen Waddle, but I will say this.

something I've said for years and years. Because the Dolphins paid 28 for Jalen Waddell does not mean the Niners have to pay 29. Other teams don't set the market when the Cleveland Browns guaranteed to Sean Watson's contract. Do the Steelers have to do that? Since when do the Cleveland Browns set the market?

When the Mariners gave Robinson Canoe a 10-year deal, do the Mariners set the market? You don't have to do what other teams do. Winning teams have more leverage. They have Debo. They just drafted two receivers. They have Kidlin McCaffrey. So Brandon Ayuk does not have the leverage in San Francisco.

If this kid Pierce Hall can play, that is significantly less leverage. Also, by the way, you may be able to trade him and get like a number three receiver and like a third pick. So remember, you're not paid just on production. You are paid on production, leverage, timing. Kirk Cousins has made much more than Tom Brady. playing quarterback. You would say the timing for Ayuk is great. Everybody's getting paid.

I'm one of the best receivers. Is he a top five receiver in the league? I've said that before. I think he's like number four. Okay, so he should be paid like the top guys in the league. Well, should be paid like. That doesn't mean more or even. No, not more.

Justin Jefferson's getting a lot. Well, that Justin. Is he in that stratosphere? No. Okay, so it's Jefferson Chase. I like Devonte Adams. Devonte Adams, who got his contract like three years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I think he's like number four or five and that, you know, he's that kind of level. I like him a lot. I think he's really, really good. But again, your timing is a lot of how you get paid. I mean, I could go on and on and on. I had enough contracts that sometimes I've been very fortunate in timing and, you know, I sign a deal and a recession hits nine months later.

You don't know what the timing is. Right now, the Niners have McCaffrey who can catch, Kittle, Debo. Jennings, who by the way, is a nice number three. Solid. And they also just drafted two-wide receivers and an offensive coach. So it's like they don't need Brandon Ayuk to win that division. True, but you also don't need this headache of a really talented player and all-pro receiver. I'll tolerate a headache over a four-year deal I can't get out from because I have to move off other people.

You don't get everything you want. I wish they had traded. If I had Kyle Shanahan, Trent Williams, Debo, Kittle and two rookie receivers. I said this with D-Wade for years. I would take that deal. I would take $26 million. Like when I was D-Waid, I have Pat Riley as my GM,

no state tax, aqua water out my front door. You say it's easy for you to take the 26th. What if there was a radio guy out here who all of a sudden got a new $15 million deal? You know you've got a better show than him. Wait a minute. He set the market now at 15 mil a year. That's the going rate.

Maybe I'll have to test the market. It's not true. it's not true is I don't know what other people make a lot of my position is based on timing and leverage and opportunities if you're sitting to just staring at money you know there's a ton of things that go on in this what an advantage to have Kyle Shanahan a capable quarterback Christian McCaffrey a great number two receiver George Kittle it's hard to double team you you almost get you can't be double teamed and then they drafted this Pearsall kid out of Florida. If he can play.

Like this idea that it's like, well, he made this. Since when do you allow the Miami Dolphins who probably overpaid? I think we both agree significantly for Waddle. They're going to set the market. They need Waddle and Tyree Kiel because they're quarterback. They don't know if you can make it through a season healthy. So if you're not judging it by the market, well, I don't know. What should I, you settle for?

That 49ers say 26-Mil-26 million feels realistic. That's a decent number. That's what he's worth. Well, says who? Well, that's what the Niners are saying, and they ultimately have the decision. So that's the thing. If he can't trade the Niners, they can trade him. So if Carolina, who needs a receive, well, they got Deontay Johnson, but somebody,

a wide receiver DDT with a quarterback on a rookie deal, would gladly pay 27, 2830 million. Let them do it. So the Niners should unload him. What are you holding on to him? Well, how do we know they're not taking calls and discussing it? We don't always know that. I'm fairly certain we did recently. that the Niners are not, you know, one of those deals.

And JJ Redick is building a staff for the Lakers. You can't buy everything you hear from the media. Yeah. Final story is Drake May started the offseason as the third quarterback on the depth chart for the lowly patriots behind Jacoby Brissette and Bailey Zappy. But last week, last week, Drake May jumped Zappy, big time. Big time news in New England for such a moribun team. He's now getting a lot of the number two reps as he continues to make strides.

Jacoby Brissette talking about Drake May's improvements. The good thing about it is not like, oh, I got it right now. And I'm like not thinking about he's just constantly, you know, trying to find ways to get better, making some nice throws out there. And you're seeing his progression come a lot. You know, he's been here for, what, three and a half weeks a month. And, you know, he's made tremendous strides. You know, not only calling the plays, footwork throwing the ball.

And, you know, and I guess his overall, like, understanding of the, his offense. How about that? You know, Jacoby Burset is, and I love this, he has become the guy in the league you want in your quarterback room. He's good enough to win a game if he starts. Like total class, if he doesn't. Like Alex Smith at the end of his career, now Alex made a Pro Bowl, but there are these guys in the NFL, you just want in the quarterback room if you have a young guy. And Kobe Berset's become one of those guys. He got a shot as a starter. He's okay, but not a guy. you're going to build around. But he could have a job for...

Jacoby Brissette could have a job in this league for 10 years. You want him in the room if you have... Remember Josh McCown, Jets? Yeah. Chase Daniel. Another guy. Jacoby Brissette's that guy. Just get him in your quarterback room.

He may win six games this year. He may not start by week 13, but he is going to be a mentor, gets the game above the shoulders. I don't know if he'll make it out of... Make it to October. The schedule for the Patriots early at Cincinnati. We know they're pretty good.

They're a Super Bowl contender. I think they're in your Super Bowl bubble. Seattle, and then two of the top five defenses in the league on the road. Jets and Niners. They're not going to win a lot of games this year. I hope Drake May doesn't have to play against those guys. He's going to get obliterated. Go look at the, if you go look next year at the NFL draft prospects, the mock drafts I already have. The Patriots are going to have a top three or four pick.

They can either trade down, which I would have been okay with this year. And they may next year because they don't need a quarterback. So New England is going to get beat up this year. But next year, unlike the Giants that need to draft a quarterback, the Patriots get out of the first second or third pick and not need a quarterback. Trade down and get multiple picks. So the Patriots just need, get through this year, figure out if Drake May, clean him up, refine him.

Next year, trade down or get a great play. I would, New England could have traded down this year. Their take was, let's just get Drake May. let's get them in house. We're going to be awful. So they're going to be terrible this year. But they're going to be one of the rare teams next year that's bad and doesn't need a quarterback.

That's a great place to be. And what about Brandon Iuke is a landing spot in New England? I told you, I think it's a great space. Go get Brandon I. My question is this, though. What's it going to cost? Well, yeah. I think New England's the place.

Because I really like him a lot. If they get the first pick and then they'll have the 33rd pick, The first pick of the second round, maybe that's a value to the Niners. You're not giving up a top five pick for IU. No, you could give maybe the top of the second. Because you have to pay IUC too. It doesn't come, you know. J. Mack with the news.

America's oldest ballpark is set to host a celebration a century in the making when the Giants take on the Cardinals in a special tribute to the Negro Leagues, live from the historic Rick Wood Field, June 20th, only on Fox. You notice how baseball is doing more television events, and they're the highest-rated Games, Phillies in London, this event, you know, field of dreams, home run derby, when networks create events, baseball, which couldn't for years figure it out on their own, gets ratings, create urgency, create special.

The Phillies Mets game I would not have watched. I watched like seven, eight innings of it because it was in London. Sometimes you have to manufacture urgency, manufacture specialists when the people criticized the NBA in-season tournament. Did you see the ratings? They were beaten Christmas Day ratings, like they were excellent for the championship. These are long, long seasons. Even the NFL now, they're going to 18 games soon. Another buy.

These are long seasons. We're all distracted up to 6, 7, 8 hours on our iPhones, average American. you have to manufacture some urgency and some special. It's okay. The in-season NBA tournament. It's fun. It's different. Stop whining about everything that changes.

The pitch clock, speed the game up, field of dreams, playing London, NFL, Gamon Dusseldorf, Brazil, Mexico, you got to create special. We are a more distracted nation than we've ever been. And this is a political year. So people are really having to be. have something to watch, listen to, pour themselves into, rabbit holes to fall into,

if you don't create that. Like, this is, every four years, we get one of these political seasons falls right in the middle of football season. You've got to create special. Because there are going to be days. You're going to be changing that thing to Fox News or MSNBC or CNN. So I saw, I was talking about this yesterday with a couple of people around the league, the Dan Hurley situation with the Lakers.

And we found out the contract they offered him was no. no better than the contract last year or this year, Kentucky offered their basketball coach. Lexington, Kentucky, Los Angeles, California, college basketball, pro basketball. Kentucky offered Dan Hurley essentially the same number the Lakers did. And it's really interesting. So the Dallas Cowboys have had success since Jerry Jones purchased them with two coaches, Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson. they made a lot of money and had a lot of power. The Lakers basically, in recent memory,

have had success with two coaches. Pat Riley and Phil Jackson, made a lot of money, had a lot of power. But yet both the Cowboys and the Lakers, huge brands, don't have a sense of how key those coaches were and the power they had and the authority and knowledge they have. The second thing is, both the Lakers and the Cowboys, will overpay for players, young players, but it's like both organizations are reluctant

to give another person, usually an adult male, some power in the organization. They don't like that. They're threatened by that. Jerry's threatened by that. He'll overpay for a linebacker, but not a head coach. He'll give power to a quarterback, not a head coach. So, and I would caution you here.

I mean, in Hollywood, you need an actor, but you've got to pay a director or screenwriter, too, right? So I would offer you this. The NBA is signing a new TV deal with a bunch of partners. All right. And they're going to make about $7.7.5 billion annually as a league. Split it 50, 50 with the players. What does that tell you?

That tells you within a few years, a couple years, a few years. You're going to have NBA players making $70 million a year. And you're going to pay your coach four, have a Frank Vogel deal. What are we doing here? They're going forward. It's going to be harder than ever. I mean, you start giving young people in their 20s, 70 million a year. It's very possible.

They'll be slightly harder to coach. I mean, there's a reason NFL players are often more in line with a coach because they can cut them. Right? So this is the time to pay a coach and to have a foundational coach who has leverage in the building. But the Lakers, you know, the other thing is it looks like it's hurting business. So the Lakers were only 11th in attendance and middle of the pack in local TV ratings. And we're only about 16 days, 15 days to the NBA draft. I think you'd want a guy in there.

And Vogel, by the way, I read this morning, was like their second or third choice, maybe their fourth choice back in 2019. So it's just one of those things. It's not helping business at all. Right? Like attendance is down, local ratings, local interest. I told you the last Laker game I went to, it was all these influencers sitting around me.

They weren't even watching the game. I had the phones up the whole game. Nobody my age was there. It was all influencers. Chris Broussard yesterday on Hurley passing on the LA job. Now, I know they're not one of the wealthiest ownership groups, but remember 20 years ago,

20 years ago, they offered Coach K $8 million a year, which 20 years ago, was more than 11.5 million now. And so I think that's what it would have taken. That's where Hurley would have won it for the security. Hmm. Hmm. I don't know. It just seems to me the Cowboys and the Lakers, they've had success with a Riley, Phil Jackson,

Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, not only compensated, not only kind of stars in their own right, but they had power. Institutional knowledge. wouldn't you go back to that? Wouldn't you find your next that? But it's as if the Cowboys and the Lakers are willing to overpay for players, but they're threatened by another dominant adult in the building who may not line up with their worldview.

That threatens them. I'll overpay for a linebacker or a shooting guard, but I'm not going to bring another pair of eyes, another pair of ears in the building that could be a threat to me. That's what it feels like to me. Because if you did something in life a couple of times and it worked and then you stopped doing that and it

didn't work, I'd go back to what works. I'd go find a Parcells, a Jimmy, a Riley, a Phil. Whoever that is. I don't know if Dan Hurley is that, but he feels like he could be that. He feels like he could be that. How much do you think an NBA coach matters relative to an NFL coach?

Not as much. Okay. Especially an offensive coach who was a play. caller. I think offensive coaches are much more valuable than NFL defensive coaches. I think Andy Reed's worth multiple wins a year in Super Bowls. I think Kyle Shanahan is. McVeigh is. I think defensive coaches

can be good with personnel. They can be good motivators, but most don't really understand offense. Tom Brady privately probably roll his eyes at some of the Belichick stuff. They just don't, even Belichick. They just don't, they don't even know some of the terminology. You think LeBron felt that way?

I mean, rolling his eyes at Darwin am. I mean, Lakers, remember, they had to settle for Vogel, who was their third choice, and they won a title, and then they moved off of them. The Milwaukee Bucks won a title with Boudnails moved off of him. Michael Malone was fired so many times before winning a title with the Nuggets. Like, I, coaches matter in the NBA.
