This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with
Robert Smygel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.

That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment,
and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Carson Palmer stops by.
Blazing five, I love the picks.
J. Mack, so many.
You know, I got to tell you this.
Next Friday, Notre Dame, Indiana, the college football playoff starts.
So you look at this weekend, and you're like, well, it's the calm before the storm.
But the L.A. Rams separating from the old Brockster.
I'm mentally ready for the Brock Purdy slam.
And listen, there's no defense.
He didn't play great.
What you want me to do?
So, but that's not the lead story today.
The lead story is Debo Samuel.
Look at me.
Take care of me.
And that's what the San Francisco 49ers did.
Spent the early portions of the game trying to make sure Debo was happy.
Just like Brandon I, you, same thing to the Niners.
Held out.
When he came back, six games, no touchdowns.
Stop pandering to wide receivers for.
49ers. Build your O and D lines.
Your best receiver is a seventh rounder who came into the league with no ego and still doesn't have one.
Joanne Jennings.
You start drafting these wide receivers in the first and second round about a couple years in.
Get me the ball.
Debo isn't washed, but he's not what he used to be.
And clearly, inarguably, Brock Purdy was forcing the ball to Debo Sweeney to make sure he was
okay, don't be shocked, if A.J. Brown and J.L.
Hurts, and they waste a first half doing the same damn thing as they face the Steelers.
And if Pittsburgh wins, and Philadelphia's first quarter and a half is trying to get
AJ Brown the ball, that's what happened last night. Brock Purdy went into that game,
and, in fact, I looked this morning, first 12 offensive plays, four at 12 drawn up for
Debo. You should have had eight at 12 drawn up for George Kittle. He's still elite. Kittle's amazing.
and you're having to take care and babysit and coddle.
This is not the NBA.
It's the NFL.
You play to win the game.
And it was an ugly night.
It was a wet night.
Matt Stafford couldn't do anything right in the first half,
but the Rams came to play a game and win.
No agendas, not trying to placate anybody.
I mean, listen, Cooper Cup could be upset.
He's been unseated by Pooka Nakuwa.
Clearly, Cooper Cup blocks as much as he goes out for a pass.
But it was Matt Stafford,
Kiron William, Sean McVeigh,
Cooper Cup, Havenstein, all about winning a game, no agendas.
Stafford had a very bad opening half, right?
I mean, he almost threw about nine picks.
But you know what?
He did it at halftime?
They're like, you know what, let's just run the ball.
Let's just run the ball.
Did Pooka get upset?
Did anybody go into the locker room?
The Rams came out and said, it's all about ball.
Let's just run the football.
Stafford was off his game.
And then eventually Matt, a couple nice escapes.
Kyron Williams, terrific young player.
Just a terrific young player.
Blake Corum getting snaps, Puka Cooper Cup.
I mean, it was just all about football.
And the Niners, by the way, here's another thing about the Niners,
that Devondre Campbell, a linebacker,
because Dre Greenlaw was healthy, came in and played, and was great.
And they let him be the starter, and Devonre Campbell pouted.
Refused to go into the game in the third quarter.
Pouted.
Took his ball and went home.
Can you imagine that?
Suddenly now San Francisco is not just old and expensive and brittle.
They got a culture issue.
Get Debo demanding the ball.
You had Brandon Ayuk holding out of camp.
You got Campbell the linebacker.
Does he think he's Fred Warner?
Does he think he's Dre Greenlaw?
Hufunga?
Bosa?
How many pro-bowls?
I mean, give me a break.
So, you know, it was a classic example of this, by the way,
a very young Rams team.
That defense, nobody's making any money.
That Rams team, it's like a college team.
No egos.
On the road, sloppy and wet, ugly first half.
I think even their kickers are rookie.
I mean, everybody's young on the Rams, except old Matt Stafford,
who was absolutely great when it mattered the most.
And by the way, the Rams now are finally healthy.
They're getting their tight end.
their number one tight ends coming back.
So the O-line's finally healthy.
And by the way, Stafford wasn't sacked.
When Stafford isn't sacked,
the Rams have won 10 straight games.
So this Ram team, no turnovers last night, no sacks,
but more importantly, no pouting.
No taking my ball and going into the locker room.
No building a game plan to play Kate and pander to a wide receiver who's not what he once was.
Here's a couple of the Niners, George Kittle,
who is still amazing and Charverius Ward,
talking about Devondre Campbell
quitting mid-game.
It's more of one person
making a, like Mooney said,
a selfish decision,
and I'm with Mooney on that.
And I've never been around
anybody that's ever done that.
And I hope I'm never around anybody
that does that again.
So for him to do that,
that's some self-to-stop to me.
Come out of me, like,
it's probably going to be good son,
so, you know, it is what he is with that.
Say this for Devo.
Debo didn't go into the locker room.
Now, he had a terrible drop.
I could not, as a football coach.
I do not believe the culture of the NFL.
They don't do load management in the NFL.
They don't do that.
You play hurt.
Everybody's hurt by week three.
Everybody's back-up quarterbacks are banged up for practice.
Everybody's banged up in the NFL.
The Niners have great linebackers.
The guy that left is their third-best linebacker.
But to quit on your team,
in the middle of it.
Bye-bye.
Take care.
See you.
I mean, Debo, I don't like that stuff either.
But he's playing.
He's not what he once was.
But you can't quit in your team.
Can't do it.
Can't do it.
Meanwhile,
yesterday I came on the show.
And sometimes I see the comments.
You folks can be a bit hurtful.
I suggested, I thought it was just reasonable.
I am America's honesty broker.
I said, I think Belichick's going to stay one year at Carolina, get exhausted by the tedium,
which is known as college athletics, and go back to the NFL, because I do think next year he'll get a job offer.
And this is all rehabbing college TV.
So did you see the little addendum in Bill Belichick's contract, the Carolina job?
It's just a little footnote.
What's that in fine print?
Belichick can leave
June 2nd
this year back to the pros
Now, he's not going to this year. Nobody hires a football coach
June 2nd. But
Bill Belichick can enter
the portal, as they say.
June 2nd. And that may be
a little footnote, little fine print,
but I can assure you the
legal teams fought over that.
Bill demanded that was in his contract.
And Bill got it.
Because this job, the top agents in college football, I noted this yesterday, Jimmy Sexton's the powerhouse,
he's not sent his best clients for this job because of the administrative, chancellor,
academic, athletic, you know, fissures in the athletic department.
So basically, Belichick can be off tobacco road before he's finished with his first cigarette.
at.
This addendum is not
about this year.
He's not going to leave now.
My prediction, he'll stay a year,
and Belichick goes to the NFL
and we'll get an offer because there's seven openings
a year. And Belichick had a quote
yesterday. He said, it kind of came to me, this
college football thing. No, it did not.
It did not come to him. The NFL
left him. And so he's a pro football
coach. And he
he is going to get an offer next year, in my opinion,
and he'll bolt. And
And all this for Belichick has been about rehab.
So Brady leaves and win a Super Bowl.
Belichick looks out of touch.
Matt Patricia to offensive coordinator.
So then you go into rehab.
So what does he do?
He gets on TV and Bill's smiling.
He's fun.
He's got fun stories.
He is showing the NFL.
I'm not the old curmudgeon you think I am.
Then he's got the young girlfriend.
He goes to college.
He looks youthful.
It's fun.
he's again showing the market.
Hey, I'm not some old crusty guy.
I'm going to relate to kids and the transfer portal.
I am here to stay.
Except for the fine print.
The fine print says he can get into the portal June 2nd.
And you fight over stuff like that.
The legal team spent hours on stuff like that, sometimes a day or two, on stuff like that.
Here was Belichick yesterday when asked about it.
Belichick basically said, I did not come here just to leave.
Then why is that in the contract?
You think he asked for that?
And Carolina said, sure, we'll pour 30, 40, 50 million into it,
and you can leave in an hour.
It's not the way it works.
I've had a few contract negotiations.
So anyway, that I thought was something.
The details, always look at the fine print.
and there you go.
You know, it's interesting.
I am going to talk about Brock Purdy.
Now, Jason, I want you to get ready
because I've said before,
in our business, you know this to be true.
In our business, you and I can not love a player
and were immediately marginalized as haters,
and that's not the case.
Like I've always said,
I really, really like Jason Tatum of the Celtics.
I don't love him.
late in games, I think Jalen Brown's the guy I trust to want the ball more,
and he's shown it as an MVP of the Eastern Conference and of the finals.
In the two biggest series in the Celtics in the last decade,
Jalen Brown was viewed by the team, the coaches, as the guy that we give the ball to.
So I don't hate Jason Tatum.
He's one of the 10 players in the NBA I would start my franchise with,
but I would also put Jalen Brown on that team too,
because he is a killer late in games.
And so with Brock Purdy in deck, I've never hated Dak.
He is Kirk Cousins with a star in his helmet.
That's what he's always been.
He's Kirk Cousins with a star in his helmet.
You can win a division.
You can go on winning streaks.
The intangibles are amazing.
Quality guy, smart guy, leadership qualities.
But let's not pretend it's Mahomes, so you can't pay him like Mahomes.
And truth is, both cousins in Minnesota, he got paid more than his real value was.
and DAC the same, and now the Cowboys are out of money.
So that, now here's where San Francisco's in a spot.
They haven't written the check yet to their Kirk cousins or their DAC.
So I want to discuss that coming up.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.
Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news.

Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen, Kingdom

into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets,
meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking
criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion
dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds,
just how long can their empire survive?
The largest tax investigation in American history.
You need to tell me what you know.
Is somebody coming after me?

This could be a rough three to four minutes.
It's time for a little Brock Purdy discussion, J-Mack,
a Brock talk, if you will,
during the holidays,
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Sometimes it gets uncomfortable when you talk politics and purdy.
13 starts this year, barely averaging a touchdown pass a game.
With one of the best scheme coaches in the league, one of the great tight ends of all time who's still outstanding,
the best seventh round receiver in football maybe ever in Joanne Jennings, who PFF has as a top 10 receiver in the league,
with Debo and a top 12 offensive line.
in review, great head coach, great tight end, first ballot Hall of Famer, two good wide receivers, stable offensive line, 13 games, he is looking for the bag, 15 touchdowns, nine picks.
Brough, you're going to pay that $58 million?
You're the Cowboys.
And he's playing his worst football when you need him to play his best football in his last four starts, in three of four of those.
under 200 yards.
But this is really interesting.
I know what you're saying.
There is no McCaffrey.
Let's give you a couple of career.
Barack Purdy moments.
And you saw this with Stafford last night.
When the fit was hit in the Shan,
Stafford was great.
Brock Purdy, trailing by a possession in the fourth quarter in his career,
including the playoffs,
has a 57 passer rating.
That is who he is.
Brock Pertie tied or trailing in the second half in his career,
has a passer rating under 70.
And the Niners are on the precipice of paying him $60 million.
You'll be a more functional Dallas Cowboys who acknowledged yesterday,
we're still out of money for the foreseeable future.
You watch that game in the second half.
Weather stunk.
Quarterbacks win games like that.
That was Stafford saying, hey, let's run the ball.
Stafford had four or five throws, one big one over the top.
I mean, Stafford all night had one huge throw and a couple important throws.
But, and once you pay pretty, you'll have to move off key pieces that were the key components to the infrastructure, which is given the illusion that he's elite.
I know Wicked is really popular right now.
Wizard of Oz, behind the curtain vibe going on.
pull back the curtain on Brock Purdy.
Look at those career stats again.
Oh, he doesn't have Christian McCaffrey.
Yeah, his lineup isn't completely stacked with Hall of Famers.
Matt Stafford last night finally had an offensive line.
But Cooper Cup has regressed.
He's got puka, but no really big time tied end.
And honestly, a defense full of kids.
And it was Stafford late,
who made the two or three big throws.
Give Stafford the keys to any car he wants.
Any car.
Big throws, key escapes, no turnovers, avoiding sacks.
Here was Brock after.
I had to be better for this team and didn't play my best tonight.
So I got to watch the film and see what happened and where my mindset was at with each play.
But I just feel like I had a lot of plays left out there that I could have made for our
team. I thought the defense and special
teams played so good.
And that's what's hurting me.
I just feel like I'm failed. I failed
the team. Once again,
pretty average. And that has been my
Brock Talk. J-Mac with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news. This is
the herd line news.
Okay. All right. Have
your moment. Enjoy it.
Let's start. Let's start
with the Eagles, Colin. It's been a
drama-filled week for Jalen Hertz and A.J. Brown, the crux of the drama stemmed from
Philly's poor pass attack. They've thrown the fewest passes in the league this year. But
Jalen Hertz says all that matters is winning. It's not any difficulty in winning.
When that's your main thing, and that's truly my main thing. Definitely put an importance
on what winning and what that is. But also, as you grow and as you evolve, the longer you
can saturate yourself in something, you know, the more comfortable you can get in it.
Very interesting. I like his leadership skills, too. I hope he doesn't spend the first four
series trying to make A.J. Brown happy. I told you that was going to happen. Yes. Remember,
I said A.J. Brown prop. Remember I said Kittle props? Kittle prop. One of them got over the other.
He landed on four catches. But I don't know. The line is going up in this. I guess the Eagles are saying all the
right things and people are buying it from four to half yesterday to five and a half now.
I'll take Pittsburgh. I'll take Pittsburgh. You go ahead, just like yesterday.
I'll take the less needy team who's just going for the W. You know, football is, baseball is an
individual sport. You go to bat and you're pitching. Even though that seems selfish, that's how
it's the infrastructure. Basketball and football is very much a team sport. Oh, yeah. Okay, now you can
have an individual star that's important, but Patrick Mahomes, without a great left tackle,
got crushed in a Super Bowl, right? So every sport has a different feel to it. If you go into a
game and you are trying to prove a point instead of trying to win, you become the Niners last
night, because that's all they cared about in the first three series. Let's get Debo the ball.
First 12 attempts plays, four for Debo. This isn't the first time that's happened. Remember Malik
neighbors? It's happened with the giant. It happens.
How'd that work for the Giants?
It's not good, but that's the reality.
I mean, listen, they have not lost a game this season with A.J. Brown on the field.
For the record, they're not losing a lot of games to anybody when everybody's on the field.
Well, they got smashed in Tampa without A.J. Brown earlier in season.
Well, it was that week one or two?
I mean, come on. It's September.
You're not even.
I tell you're feisty today.
I got a good night's sleep.
Half the job here is reading you.
Forget the sports.
All right, let's move on to my jets
who have already been eliminated from the playoffs.
They got a lot of blown fourth quarter leads.
Losing one-score games, seven of the last 13.
They're terrible all around.
Now, this is where it gets interesting.
Earlier this week, Garrett Wilson suggested
the team might have a losing gene,
and Aaron Rogers seems to agree.
Might be some sort of curse.
We got a snap as well.
But whatever the case, you know,
this team, this organization is,
going to figure out how to get over the hump at some point.
You know, the culture is built by the players.
You know, there's a framework set down by the organization, by the upper ups, by the staff,
and in the end, it's the players that make it come to life.
And at some point, everybody's going to have to figure out what that special sauce is
to turn those games that should be wins into wins.
Well, I know what it is.
The elite quarterbacks like Stafford in the last two weeks, Matt Stafford has made the
throws to win those games. That's the, as great as McVeigh is, and you know, I'm a fanboy
of McVe. The last two weeks, Stafford has won those games over Josh Allen and Purdy
because he's made two big throws late. That throw over the top when he got Puka.
That's the ball game. Well, also, Brock Purdy made a great throw to Debo in third and ten.
Debo dropped it in the red zone. Yeah, I'm not, dropped it. No, I'm not denying that. That was a
really, really ugly drop. That could have been six. Debo's got some rules. I thought it would
Seven six if you looked at it, yeah.
But as for Rogers, like, I don't know.
Now he's talking about a curse.
Bro, I'm so over this guy.
You know what they're calling him, right?
Cho Rogan.
That's what they're calling Aaron Rogers now.
Listen, I'm just reporting what the internet says.
People, even Jets fans are out on this guy.
I'm dead serious.
I'm not making this up.
I just don't want him on the TV.
I actually thought he played.
I don't need this nonsense.
In fairness, you know, I've come around on Baker.
I support Baker.
I don't like him this weekend, but I support Baker.
I thought Aaron played his best game of the year against Miami.
But once again, Tua and Miami figured out a way to win,
and the Jets couldn't make things working in very end.
DeVante Adams catches the ball.
Should get the first down, but his momentum took him out.
They have to settle.
But Aaron played well this past week.
I'll just say one of the reasons that some of the Jets fanboys,
potential excitement, the left tackle out of Penn State,
Olu filling in for Tyron.
He was great.
He played an awesome game.
Aaron Rogers had some time in the pocket.
So there's not like, oh, we might have a left tackle.
I will say this.
I've said this.
The Jets problem is not the personnel.
That kid from Penn State can play.
They have their left tackle for the future.
They don't have a lot of needs on this team.
They need more production at Tide-in, period.
You've got to have another weapon.
Receivers are good.
They could use, I mean, I'll be honest with you.
They don't have a lot of needs.
What they need is a quarterback in their prime.
That's a small deal.
I know.
When I said that two months ago,
all the pushback from the fanboys,
go look at this roster.
Running back, check.
Receivers, check, check.
Left tackle now, check.
Defense front, edge rusher,
corners, safety.
We got to pump the brakes.
I'm just saying,
we were on this six weeks ago.
The issue isn't everybody else.
Get a coach and get a quarterback.
Easier said than done.
So I got a Vegas trip coming up,
so I went and looked at all my tickets.
When you go to Vegas, you get futures tickets.
And one that I had to tear up was Jets over 10 and
half wins.
Oh, gosh.
Why did I really think that was possible?
Colin, you're a fan.
They're one of the worst teams in the league.
No, you're a fan.
But they're not now.
They are not one of the worst rosters in the league.
I'll argue that all day long.
Now that they have a left tackle, they got components.
It's one game.
I watch the entire game.
I'm hopeful.
Final story is Detroit Lions.
They have the best record in the NFL,
and they still have not clinched the NFC North.
The Vikings are a game back and the Packers are three games back.
Jared Goff recognizes there's no room for error heading into the final few weeks of the season.
We have to keep winning.
We'd love to say 12 and 1, our division is wrapped up, but it's not even close.
We've got two teams on our heels that are pushing us pretty hard, and we've got to keep winning,
and I'm sure they're just waiting for us to lose.
You know, J-Mack, I did a deep dive on this, and there's a game every week in the NFL,
where my instincts are one side, and then I talk to my buddy Chad Millman, and I go, yesterday afternoon, I didn't go work out, I just stayed home, and I just kind of went through a bunch of stuff for Blazing Five and all that stuff.
There's a lot of things that line up for Detroit here, like a lot.
For Detroit.
For Detroit.
This is a team that is getting ready for another one of those spicy blowouts.
I think you're talking to some of the wrong people.
Okay.
And I know, Chad, but whatever he's feeding you on Detroit, just be a very careful here with the Lions this weekend.
Okay.
I have a feeling it'll be in headlines.
By the way.
Make plays in five.
Oh, yes.
With vigor and confidence.
Vigour.
Okay.
All right.
J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
around the corner.
So here's some great news for Jerry Jones and bad news for cowboy fans.
Forbes today released the most valuable domestic franchises.
And the Cowboys are worth $2 billion more than second place Golden State Warriors.
Rams are third, Yankees, Knicks.
Good news for Jerry.
Here's the bad news, though.
A headline this morning by Stephen Jones, Jerry's son.
The Cowboys expect another really, really tight off season.
They're out of money.
It's going to be really, really tight.
The Cowboys are your friend who makes a great living,
but strangely lives check to check.
He's got a range rover, but he's a renter.
What?
How does that work?
There's no limitations on how great the Cowboys could be.
No state income tax, beautiful facility.
nice place to live for a great young athlete, center of the country, mostly decent winter, spring weather, business-friendly state, huge brand, television money rolling in, but they can't budget themselves correctly.
Dallas spent all their money on a Rolex, and yet they're renting furniture.
And if you think I'm off my rocker here, I just want you to think about this for a second.
The Philadelphia Eagles have two wide receivers, two, making over 25 million.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a quarterback making over 50 million.
The Philadelphia Eagles have three offensive linemen making over 20 million,
and they could still pay Sequin Barclay a ton.
Think about that.
And you guys couldn't get Derek Henry for $8 million at the trade deadline.
And that's just what the Eagles are paying their often.
offense. Howie Roseman, the Eagles general manager, is running laps around the Dallas Cowboys.
Since the Cowboys played in their last, just a conference championship, forget the Super Bowl.
Since the Cowboys played in their last conference championship, Eagles have been in three Super Bowls,
and many believe, and I may be one of them, this year will be their fourth.
So I've said this about the Celtics and the Lakers.
If you look at the Celtics and the Lakers and the Eagles and the Cowboys, it is not close.
in the ownership and executive level.
It is not close.
I mean, look at Philadelphia what they're paying their offense.
Philadelphia has got young stars, stars in their prime, aging stars.
Dallas has two great players.
So this Mike McCarthy decision that we're going back and forth on, I got news for you.
Howie Roseman and the brilliant owner of the Eagles, Jeffrey Lurie, would have this puppy all figured out.
It wouldn't be a weak-to-week proposition.
I think sometimes you forget the gap between the Ravens and the Bengals in the same division.
The gap between the ownership and the executives.
It's not about Lamar and Joe Burrow.
They're both amazing.
They're all-timers.
Both of them.
The gap between the commitment and the foresight and the vision of the Ravens compared to the Bengals.
It's a mile.
You think because the Lakers, and you think because the Cowboys have these big brands, they have their act together.
I'm telling you, they got a range rover in the driveway, driveway, and they got rented furniture.
I mean, this idea that they're going to be tight again.
I mean, the Denver Broncos are paying a fortune for Russell Wilson, and right now they're a playoff team.
The Rams were paying for Matt Stafford and Jared Gaw.
and they got to a Super Bowl and won.
And they were being two quarterbacks of fortune.
It's not, we always blame the players, look upstairs to the guy in the dark glasses.
That's, and the GM, that's where these games are often decided.
Carson Palmer, around the corner.
Blazing five today, J-Mack?
I'm not kidding you.
I had to put it off to the side.
I didn't want it to burn the desk.
That's how hot it is.
You're coming in hot today.
What's going? Was that a late night last night?
I may put shades on to block the sun from the blazing five.
The thing's on fire over here on the desk.
That's what happens.
Overconfidence can cost you.
Have you heard that, by the way?
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers.
And guess what? We have some big news.
What's the news, huge news?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to a...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing.
a bit for the podcast for people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman helped make you funny.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud.
But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
The largest tax investigation in American history.
You need to tell me what you know.
Is somebody coming after me?
Jacob told, Levan, you're ruining my life.

Come back.
Blazing 5, top of the hour.
And I'm going to give my love for Caleb Williams is the bears have been a hazmat spill for six months.
And that kid keeps stepping to the microphone and saying all the right stuff.
You know he's gone seven games with no pick.
That's an NFL record for a rookie.
I know everybody wants to bury these kids when they lose games.
I'm just telling you, our next guest knows what it's all about.
Where you land is about 70% of the game.
15 years in the NFL, best quarterback USC's ever had by some stretch.
Carson Palmer now joining us live.
First of all, he's just named head coach at Santa Margarita High, which is big time.
He coached the freshman last year with his son who's a quarterback,
and now he's going to take over the program.
You know, you were up there in Sun Valley
and you're living a great life.
And then all of a sudden, it's like you got the little
coaching bug. So I want to congratulate
you, first of all. Drew Bledsoe,
my friend, coaches as well and loves it.
So congrats to you.
Thanks, Colin. Yeah, I'm
right back in it.
This is the mecca of football
in this country, the Trinity League.
It's an incredible opportunity for me.
It's where it all started for me.
It's where my football journey began.
my faith journey began.
So it's a really special opportunity to come back home,
back to my alma mater and be a part of this program again.
Good for you.
You're too darn young.
You've got to be back in the action.
You look like you're 32 years old.
So I've said this before in the history of football.
I can make an argument that the two quarterbacks,
who I think are all-time talents,
but they didn't get the great landing out of college,
are you and Joe Burrow?
And as I've watched Burrow, my heart goes out for him.
They gave away Joe Mixin for a seventh rounder.
They won't pay Jamar Chase, who's just incredible.
And this is not to take a shot at Cincinnati, but you got into a situation there where you said,
guys, enough is enough.
And you're a loyal guy.
Do you see when you watch Burrow, do you see a little bit of that where you're like,
boy, that kid is, your heart goes out a little bit for him?
Well, it's not what I see, you know, from a skill standpoint or production on the field,
because production on the field is second and none.
I just see a frustration on his face, and that's what concerns me.
You know, it looks to be building.
It looks to be waning and weighing on him.
So I think the thing that jumps out of me is you can see the frustration on his face.
It's tough to put up the numbers he's put up to score the points they've put up
and be in the situation they're in, which is on the outside looking at.
Their playoff shot this year, unfortunately, it looks to be slim to none,
and you've got to start thinking about next year.
But I'm starting to see some frustration grow on Joe's face,
and that's concerning.
Yep, we talked about this about a month ago.
He was getting feisty even before games, and you can feel it,
and I feel bad for him.
He looks at Lamar, and he can look at Josh Allen and Stafford and all these guys
have a better supporting cast.
So of all the rookie quarterbacks, I really like Bo Nex,
and I think a lot of it's Peyton and a lot of it's fit.
His numbers are good, but you could just see him growing.
You look at all these young quarterbacks.
Is there one that kind of snaps or pops out for you?
Well, I'm biased because he went to USC, but Caleb Williams in Chicago.
You know, it's been, you just talked about it a minute ago.
It's been a tough year.
There's a lot of chaos in the organization.
There's a lot of questions about the staff.
But he hasn't thrown a pick in seven games.
That is an amazing staff.
Think about that.
When you're in that moment and you're him and you're fighting for every yard and trying to get a win,
you're trying to get the ball down the field.
I mean, it is really easy to make a mistake.
It is really easy to force one.
into coverage. It's really easy to put yourself and your team in a vulnerable situation.
And I think that's the most impressive thing about him right now is he has not done that.
He's trying everything he can do. He's doing stuff he was doing at SC, moving around the
pocket. You know, he's not getting a ton of separation on the outside. So he's creating a
separation by holding on the ball for three, four, five seconds, making guys miss and giving his
receivers downfield a chance to shake loose and in all that. He's got guys flying around and
body's coming at him faster than they ever had before in his life, and he still hasn't thrown
one to the other team. That's a truly amazing staff.
You know, it's, I watched the Niners last night, and I'm like, listen, you know this.
You know this like Arizona. Like windows close really fast. We have a regulated level of violence.
You can have two or three great players. Your left tackle goes down or ages, and all of a sudden
the quarterback's like, okay, our windows closed. I look at the 49ers, and I said this coming into the
season. I said, guys, they're getting old, they're expensive, and they're getting a little brittle.
I kind of felt like last night, is kind of, of all the season that came down to that, is just that
now they've got some culture stuff. Did you ever have a team where you could kind of sense it,
Carson, like, oh man, it's closing. It's getting close. It's closing.
Yeah, oh, absolutely. It happens every three, four, five years. And sometimes, like in Kansas
City when that window is being talked about closing, you find a new way to reinvent yourself
and defense in Kansas City.
And they're not explosive and throwing the ball over people's heads, but they find a way
to win games at the end of the game.
So, yes, that can absolutely happen.
I think the biggest factor in that window is the fact that they got a paybrock pretty here
pretty soon.
And that's going to be a substantial chunk of their salary cap.
So you're going to lose a D-Bo, you're going to lose a kiddles, you're going to lose maybe
a Bosa, who knows. Once they have to pay him, everything changes. And I think I talked about it
last time I came on your show. You know, Brock was not a first round pick. There were some flaws in his
game and his physical makeup. And I think you put Brock in an environment where the ball's wet,
where the wind picks up, where the temperature drops and that ball gets a little slick. It doesn't
quite have that tackiness on it. You see some issues and some flaws pop up and you saw him last night.
They're still going to have to pay him and they're still going to have to give them a big
chunk of that salary cap and that's where you start to see that window close faster.
Finally, I always thought Bill Belichick's a pro coach and though there are similarities now
more than ever between college and pro, it's actually crazy that college players now have no
salary cap and almost no free agent window. It's the wild, wild west. The NFL's got all the
borders and the fences and I look at Belichick and I think, oh, Bill, Bill loves structure. There's no
structure in college football. I don't think it can last that long. I think he can win games,
smart guy. Do you think he could go to college and just it would drive him nuts after about a year?
I think it's going to be really fun to watch. The attention to detail and the fact that you have
limits on how many hours you get with your team. You only get, you know, five, six, seven hours
with your team during the season. In the NFL, guys can come in at five, they can come in at six,
and they can stay until nine, ten, eleven o'clock at night. So I think that's going to be a big factor in his
success is he doesn't have the time to work with these guys. But like you said, this is the new
NFL. There's no cap. You know, there's no number of draft draft picks you get to add to your team.
You can go and take whoever you want from wherever you want if the school's pockets are deep enough.
And obviously, North Carolina is showing that they've got deep pockets. They're serious about
the football program. It's been a basketball school for as long as anybody can remember.
But they, you know, they're searching. And Bill is a great place to start.
The thing with Bill is just figuring out what kind of tolerance, what kind of patience he has with 18, 19, 20-year-olds as opposed to 20-to-35-year-olds.
Carson Palmer, varsity head coach, Santa Margarita High School named there yesterday as alma mater.
His son is going to be a sophomore, right?
Your son's name is what?
And he's a sophomore quarterback?
Fletch, yeah, I've got a sophomore quarterback.
And like I said, I'm right back where it all began in the Trinity.
league coaching at Santa Margarita.
Really, really excited about this opportunity
and being able to have an impact on these young
men's lives. Yeah, good for you.
That's great, giving back, and congrats
to your son. I'm going to actually, I've got to come down
and see a practice. I really want to watch this stuff. I think it's
great. Good for you. Thank you so much, Carson.
Great seeing you all. All right. Old
brother, of course, a Jordan Paul, who comes
on our show. So that's kind of a legendary Southern
California high school. There's a handful of Bosco's
in Santa Margaritas and
modern day, and
you've got some Sarah's here.
in Mission Valley.
I think it's called Mission Valley, where
Sanchez went. So there's a lot of these legendary
schools, and that's cool.
Blazing 5. Let me throw this out to you.
Now, J. Mack,
I'm not really a boycott guy.
So when people
like say, I'm boycotting,
it's like, it's an American option.
But, you know, when people
years ago got a little into their
fields with the NFL,
I'll never watch again.
Oh,
ratings have come out.
NFL ratings season to date.
18 million people per game.
The best in nine and a half years.
People are watching.
Isn't that funny?
You know, what I think is interesting is that the media
kind of resents power too often.
And by the way, I think it's good for comedians and the media to take their shots at power.
I get that.
But you can't become paralyzed by it.
Roger Goodell has never gotten the respect.
This guy has navigated COVID, streaming, CTE.
I mean, it's still a sport that can be dangerous.
And every time I turn on a football game, such good kids, the NFL asked you to play.
sometimes a little dinged up, but they will reward you financially, handsomely.
And it's harder to run Netflix than a smaller streaming service.
It's harder to run the NFL than the MLS.
And they have navigated through a lot of storms,
and they have come out as the NBA ratings go through the floor over the last four years, NFL is up again.
Hey, guys, it's us and the Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.

We just contributed to it.
