J. Mack, we all know that when people are young, good parents matter. Right? Like you as a parent, me as a parent. We thought a lot about that. We didn't want chaos. They're in support. Add little wisdom. Do the best you can.

Occasional chaos is not the worst thing in the world. Not the worst thing. Because we're going to have to deal with it in real life. In real life. But I was thinking tonight's a great example. So tonight it's Lamar Jackson, a great young talent, and Joe Burrow. Equally, a great young talent. And one of them, Baltimore, is the guidebook on how to help raise your star quarterback.

One is how to hinder it. So let's just talk Lamar Jackson. So he gets to Baltimore. He gets to sit for a while behind a veteran, a pro Joe Flacco. They don't draft him to start day one. And very soon after John Harbaugh signs an extension, no chaos, veteran coach extended. They re-sign a left tackle, a Ronnie Stanley. They eventually draft a center over the course of time.

Tyler Lindembaum left tackle center, very valuable. By the way, they eventually shift offensive. coordinators as Lamar grows in the pocket as a better passer to Todd Monkin who they feel. Previous coordinator was good. This guy's a bit more past-centric. So as Lamar grows, they add Zay Flowers. And then this year they add Derek Henry. And they add at the deadline another receiver.

Offense, offense, weapons, weapons. They've changed coordinators to a more pass-centric coordinator as Lamar has grown. They don't ask him to start. They extend the great coach. Left tackle and center. Outstanding. Centers don't get drafted much in the first round. Baltimore says, yep.

By the way, Kansas City did the same for Mahomes. Went and got a center. All they're doing, what can we do to make this kid flourish? Now go to Joe Burrow in Cincinnati. You wonder why he looks perpetually pissed. He inherits and has to start immediately, Zach Taylor. We still don't know if he's a good coach. The offensive line, they can't get it right.

It's ranked 27th this year. It was 26 last year. I think a couple years ago it was rated lower. They can't get the offensive line right. This offseason, they let go of Joe Mixon, who I've been saying for years is a top five running back. He's had some stuff off the field starting in college, but he's really good. And, oh, by the way, they let him go, and Cincinnati has no run game. And a bad offensive line.

Oh, by the way, they lose their offensive core. coordinator, a really sharp kid, Callahan, he goes to Tennessee. Do they comb the market? Do they get into a bidding war for Cliff Kingsbury? No, no, they just move one of the guys on the staff up. Oh, by the way, they've got two really good receivers. Playing hardball with both. Higgins, not going to play tonight probably, and he won't laugh.

He'll be gone. And Jamar Chase is unhappy. I mean, that's the difference between the parents being at home. The parents adding wisdom. The parents not demanding too much too soon. As the kid grows, the parents challenge, support, and hey, you're on your own. Mom and dad are going out. See in a week.

Baltimore, the entire time, what can we do to slowly grow this incredible young athlete? And Cincinnati, how can we save money? Didn't even make a play on Cliff Kingsbury. Let's just take a guy on the staff. Guy and the staff may be good, but generally in any company, it could be Nike, it could be Intel. Generally, you want a global search to get the best guy, generally. So as JFK, one of our great presidents once said, ask not what your quarterback can do for you. Ask what you can do for your quarterback.

One franchise gets it. One is trying to save money. And that said, I think tonight. night's really competitive, wouldn't be shocked if Burrow wins, but everybody keeps asking, well, why is Joe Burrow so grumpy? You would be too. Burroughs the only great quarterback in the NFL that doesn't have either an elite coach or a really stacked roster.

Gough does. Herbert's roster's good. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar, Jalen Hertz. I even like C.J. Stroud roster. Joe Burrow trying to save money in Cincinnati. That's why he has a perpetual scow lawn. All right, so it was interesting yesterday. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.

Isn't it amazing when you draft a quarterback, even if they don't succeed early, it makes the franchise much more interesting. So Caleb Williams had a moment of honesty. He said, it's getting really frustrating. Over the years, I work really hard on my accuracy, and I'm really kind of struggling at times. I pride myself not being accurate, not being on time is a really frustrating thing for me. And he has struggled this year.

So this is where in my business, in this little TV radio business, the media never wants to be wrong. So a lot of people in the media are terrified to have a strong opinion. And there is a fine line from rushing to judgment and identifying the truth. It's a fine line. I get that. But three games in, and we were right, C.J. Stroud's better than Bryce Young. Bigger, stronger, more accurate, more self-awareness, he's better. That was not rushing to judgment.

You all watched American Idol or the voice. How many keys does it take? How many lines does it take? How many lyrics, the melody? Can you tell him like nine seconds? C.J. Stroud, three games in, better than Bryce Young. It's been right. By the way, five games in, same draft class, Justin Herbert Tua.

Herbert was better. He was breaking records and didn't have an elite coach. He was bigger. He was stronger. He was more mobile. He could take hits better. It took about five, six games. Herbert's better than Tua.

So when you look at Jaden Daniels and Caleb Williams, one of the things I don't think this is rushing to judgment. I think this is identifying the truth is that Jaden Daniels will be a more accurate thrower of the football. He was in college at LSU, 70%. He's at 71% now. Is Jaden Daniels is better at delivering the ball accurately? So far this year, Jaden Daniels,

it would set an all-time rookie record, 71.5% completion percentage. Caleb Williams is close to the borderline, 61. Passer rating 1067 to 83. So accuracy is a big deal in the NFL, and I don't think it's rushing to judgment, to say that, yes, Jaden will be a more accurate distributor of the football in his career, and that matters a lot. And here's something else, because they're both mobile.

Leadership. We saw it in college with Caleb. He can be moody. He can brood. we've never seen that with Jaden Daniels at LSU, Arizona State, NFL camp season teammates love him, coaches love him, players in the NFL

privately calling their agents and telling them I want to play for the commanders. Meanwhile, Caleb, he and DJ Moore, what's the riff? He and his offensive coordinator. It's not ideal. I think in the leadership department right now, I think it, and I think Caleb's really talented. But accuracy, I'm making a definitive opinion.

It's just easier. Jaden is an easier, got a better rhythm, it's more effortless, he's just a more accurate deliverer of the football. And we knew that coming out of college. That was the knock. That's what the scout said. And we all said it. Caleb can get, he can get a little inaccurate.

You got to pull him back in to the fairway. He can galf in the weeds sometime. Mechanics, sidearm in it. That's why it was compared. And leadership, the things that people question, the fingernail stuff, the jumping in the crowd, the moody, the brooding, a little bit with Caleb. I think we've seen it. And we've seen no sign of that, nothing but great leadership from Jaden Daniels. So right now today, that doesn't mean Caleb couldn't win a Super Bowl or be dominant if he gets the right coach.

That's not what I'm saying. But accuracy and leadership, I think there's a separation so far. I think Caleb's been noisy. The bears have been noisy. And Washington just keeps blowing people out and competing with the best teams in the league. So I think there is a fine line between rushing to judgment and identifying the truth. And that's not to say Caleb's not going to work. I like him a lot.

I don't think this is the right head coach. I don't think it's the right coordinator. the offensive lines regressed. I am not saying they're not reasons. Accuracy leadership, all I'm saying is I see a separation. Many of the scouts, if you go online and look it up,

the concerns with Caleb have surfaced and the one primary concern with Jaden Daniels, thin, little slight, could get injured. Been banged out one game, but hasn't really been an issue. Okay, J-Mack.

I'm excited for Greg Kosell this week, because there's a couple of things that I saw last week, and I think when you get to week 10 in the NFL season, we've said this for the last two weeks, and I think tonight, if Baltimore blows out Cincinnati, you have a separation between the haves and have-nots. I still think there's a few have-nots hanging on. Maybe the jets are still hanging on. The dolphins, a have-not hanging on. Cincinnati, a have-not hanging on. Is this the weekend?

We give up on the have-nots. The life preserver doesn't work. Possibly. And there is one team. There's some breaking-ish news now. I'm sure you saw before the show about a certain quarterback. The games come off the board. You cannot gamble on it.

Quarterback's going to apparently miss this week. And now there's reports, maybe surgery. Yeah. Not great. You know, we need the good quarterbacks playing. Bottom line, when Patrick Mahomes got hurt briefly on Monday, I was like, come on, please. You know, I'm not a Chief Scott. I was like, we don't need not.

We need Mahomes in the game. No, I mean, Baker Mayfield, it wasn't Mahomes that made that game compelling. Baker Mayfield, playing without a star receivers running around making plays, actually saved the night. By the way, Baker hosting the Niners off a bye short week. Have you looked at that game? Is that going to make the plays at five? If it doesn't, you got problems, buddy. There's one layup on the board this week.

He says discussing he and Aaron Rogers, that he's missing plays, he can struggle with some of the signs and the signals, and that it's very, very complex, and Aaron is very demanding. Aaron, as you recall, got frustrated with young Green Baywide receivers. And I have said this is where Brady and Aaron Rogers are very similar, two very heady guys who don't want to be babysitters.

And I support Brady and Aaron with this, although I do think Garrett Wilson is a sensational talent. Aaron's passer rating with Garrett Wilson is 85. With Alan Lazard, it's in the 120s. What does that tell you? Is that Brady worked with Randy Moss and Wes Welker. He also worked in Tampa when he had Mike Evans, and then he brought along Gronk and AB. But for years, New England whiffed on first round,

second round, third round receivers. Edelman took four years to work, and we know how smart and diligent Julian Edelman is, is that LeBron James, Aaron Rogers, and Tom Brady don't like working with young kids. LeBron doesn't mind working with his own kid. I get it, Dad, but they don't like working with young kids. And when Tom went to Tampa, get me Lenny Four Net dumpoffs,

get me Gronkin A.B. and Mike Evans year seven. So it's interesting here, as the young kid is acknowledging, yeah, I'm struggling with this stuff. And, you know, that's why when D-Hop goes to Kansas City, I'm watching that game, and I'm like, it looks like he's been there for eight years, that back of the end zone touchdown. And that's how Moss and Welker were with Tom Brady. And that's why LeBron James and D. Wade, eight games in.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis, second game in. It works. Guys with short careers and short shelf lives do not want to be babysitters and mentoring. Aaron Rogers wants to win now. So does Tom and his prime, and so does LeBron. And that's why it's up to a general manager to get it right. Just drafting a white. It's okay when Jordan Love generationally is young, and so are the receivers.

That's different because Jordan Love is growing. Tom's fully grown. Aaron's fully grown. This is what you get. LeBron knows the game. He's not going to play with kids. He's got no interest. Kuzma, ball.

He didn't want them. Get me grownups. Tom Brady yesterday. We talked about this, and I asked him, like, you and Randy Moss, like you work within two practices. You and Mike Evans, you worked instantly. You didn't know Mike Evans.

Why? I remember playing with certain rookie receivers. Literally, it was like the first day of OTAs. And I'd call like, hey, run a slant. And he looked at me like a slant. Okay. And that's kind of the most generic route looks. since we were running those in parking lots, you know, with your friends.

And there was a few guys I played with that would, they'd start the route slow, then they'd speed up into the break, then they'd slow down coming out of the break, and then they'd look for the ball, and I'd look at it on and be like, what the hell was that? Yeah, but you didn't have to do that with Welker, Moss, Mike Evans, a young Chris Godwin, it figured it out pretty quick, but it was immediately Mike Evans, immediately West Welker, Randy Moss stuff worked instantly.

And Aaron with Alan Lazzard, passer rating is the highest on the team. Not the more gifted receiver, Garrett Wilson. I get the pro athlete. It's up to the general manager to figure this out. I get the pro athlete. The all-time great, the Aaron, the LeBron, the Brady saying,

not a mentor. It's not my job. I'm not a babysitter. Get me guys who can play and can run routes today. Now, Sunday. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

All right, let's start with Josh Allen, who's having a great season. 17 touchdowns, only two picks. Bills are 7 and 2 coasting to the AFC East Crown. We talked about just how good Allen has been in the red zone, but McDermott believes he's taking a huge step forward in his development. You watch his comfort level in the pocket. You watch his progressing through his progressions and his progression reads. I just think when you play that quarterback position,

There's just so much when you come into the league on one's shoulders, whether it's on the field or off the field. And he's done a great job of chipping away at that growth and into that kind of workload. And where he is now is, I really believe he's at the top of his game. Yeah, I think that goes without question. If you take the reckless out, he's amazing. But is it the reckless what makes him amazing?

No, I don't buy. I think Stafford, Josh Allen, there's a little bit of that and I'm okay with it a little bit, but I think it can be mostly coached out if you have the right plan, the right protection. I mean, Stafford, by the way, he'll have reckless throws, but I don't, I don't think

he has been, as Puka Nakua arrived with Cooper Cup, they got the kid Demarius Robinson, he's not, he, DeMarcus Robinson, he had a really bad pick at Chicago. Remember that pick he threw in the end zone? He had a terrible pick that Stafford in Chicago. Oh, that's right, yeah. But he's had about two all year,

like really bad ones. Mollum's had like five. So if you had to beat the Chiefs in one playoff game, who would you rather have, Stafford or Josh Allen? There's just such different quarterbacks, different stages in their career. Yeah, I don't know. I think probably Josh Allen because he can run. I think his ability to move is such an advantage. I agree with that, but, you know, show me the playoff game. He showed up and won as an underdog. Well, he did. He did give them a lead with 13 seconds to go in a game, and his defense failed. Did they win that game? Well, again, he did his job. Oh.

Kind of like Brock Purdy in the Super Bowl. He did his job. Went down the field, scored. Well. But the defense didn't do their job. How much time was left? It was overtime. See what I did there?

Yeah, I'm defending my guy Purdy. Shout out to Brock Purdy. Anyways, let's get to the Niners calling Christian McCaffrey. Big news. He's probably going to go this week for the Niners in Tampa coming off the Achilles injury. We haven't got official confirmation whether or not he'll play. And Shanahan is being very coy about his staff.

At what point do you think there will be a decision on whether or not Christian plays Sunday? To, like, publicly, kick off. Not in your mind. What do you need to see from him or what does he need to tell you? That he's just Christian McCaffrey, and he's not hurting. But, you know, as long as everything goes well, it has in the rehab. So just as long as it doesn't get sore and have setbacks each day with practice, usually if you get that in practice, that means it's going to be worse than the game.

So hopefully you can string together three days in a row. I'm not having any of those. You see, Mac? He's coming back. He's going to have a nice Sunday. I texted some of the guys on the staff. I think this game will be in headlines on Friday. Yeah, this may be a blazing five game.

So a quick reminder on the Niners. So last year they lost three straight heading into their buy. Remember there was the Browns game where they had some injuries? And then the Vikings and then the Bengals. They came out of the by going to Jacksonville, flying across the country to Florida. And they waxed them 343. I have video on my phone safe because I love it.

Debo Samuel coming out of the tunnel before the game, and you can see them. They're dancing. They are all juiced up, ready to go. Smash Jacksonville, one on a huge tear. Now you're getting McCaffrey back, Debo back, Jennings back. Yeah. It's a smash spot, as they say. Good luck this week, Tampa.

It's a smash spot. Final story, Colin, is, yeah, we got to go here. Patrick Mahomes reagravated that ankle injury late in Monday's overtime win over the bucks. after the touchdown passed to P. Rine. Mahomes was helped off the field. Everybody was nervous, holding their breath. He did not miss a snap. The bionic Mahomes has not been limited in practice,

and he talked about playing this week. You have a little bit of a roll. It's a little bit of sore, but I'm able to move around and I look forward to getting out of practice and seeing how I can push it as the week goes on. You can only do so much. I mean, obviously, it was pretty late, but getting some stuff in the trainer room after the game,

and getting some stuff to take home. you throw it on there, stuff you can do overnight that you put on there to kind of reduce swelling. He'll be fine. That's my answer. Some Patrick Mahomes. He'll be fine. Listen, all these guys by week four are banged up.

There's no healthy player in the NFL, perfectly healthy player. Except maybe punters. Nobody's healthy in this league at week four. That's why when I see this load management stuff, I laugh. These NFL guys are all playing through injuries. NBA guys like, you know, I got a headache. Let's not take unnecessary shots, all right? I'm just curious.

Your Broncos, Peyton and Knicks. Tough spot, rookie quarterback against Steve Spagnolo's Blitz-happy defense. Banged up Mahomes off an overtime extra session game against the Denver team. Okay, division rival game, getting a ton of points. Just got humiliated, watched Denver play very good football. Really? Yes. Wow.

Bowdo Knicks? On the road. Well, it's actually, this is a 1 p.m. kickoff, so it won't be an issue. No. You know, the nighttime game today. So it's a short week, one o'clock window. Denver's going to be just fine. Really?

Yes. You're not putting this in place in five. Why not? You're going against Mahomes? Some people have that kind of courage. Others are afraid to meet the challenge. Well, listen, this is a year for favorites. Favorites are dominating, not just the NFL.

I'm talking like every sport election. Favorites are crushing this year. You're getting in front of a Patrick. Mahomes. Good luck with that, you know? I guess maybe Sir Tan can lock down Deaunt and D. Hopkins, two touchdowns for D. Hopkins. By the way, Hopkins, they got him for a fifth round pick. It's incredible. And the Cowboys gave up a fourth round pick for a receiver that can't separate. It's not quite Randy Moss, but do you remember it was like, is D. Hop washed in Tennessee? And then he comes to Kansas City and he's catching touchdowns. What? What's going on here?

And again, he's not a separator. He's not a sideline separator guy. He is a high volume 10 attempts, 10 targets, 7 to 8 catches, good in the red zone. And it's like Brady talked about. You put D-Hop with Mahomes. You're like, oh, yeah, this works instantly. It is amazing when you watch these young receivers. You just think, hey, you go out and you run routes. It is, these guys get law.

Alan Lazzard and Aaron Rogers' passer rating is a different level than Garrett Wilson. And Garrett Wilson's a top 15 receiver in the league. He's a tremendous player. Tremendous player. I know we haven't seen a lot of them, but Amari, Cooper was trying to catch passes from Deshawn Watson. First week with Josh Allen. Touchdown. First week.

He's hurt now, but I mean, like, it's just... Devonte Adams with Aaron Rogers. Game two. Game one was Little Nothing Burger. Game two made two big cats. That's right. A step up from Gardner Minshu or whoever, Aiden O'Connor, I don't remember who it was in Oakland. Or Vegas.

J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News. very interesting comment. So we all know there's about six essential things you need to be like an elite team, coach, GM, quarterback, pass rusher, weapon or two, stuff like that. And I think that Cleveland Browns have the coach, the GM, and the pass rusher. They can get weapons. That's the easiest thing to get. Get a weapon. You can get Puka in the fifth round, right? So yesterday,

GM Andrew Barry was asked about Dishon Watson. This is a weird answer. We couldn't get clarity this morning on the staff. He said, it's always possible for Dishon Watson to come back and play football for the Browns again. What? What? It's always possible for Dishon Watson to come back and play football for the

Browns again. This year, ever? What? I think it slipped. I think they're thinking about moving on, and they're right. I would move on. I would cut the bait. they're in year three, because remember the first year couldn't play, they're in year three of a five-year plan.

It's an awful contract. So was Russell Wilson's. And right now, Denver's paying the price this year's salary cap, and next year. And Denver's fine. I think by next year, there'll be a playoff team. And by the way, Russell Wilson's not a bad guy. He doesn't have 25-plus lawsuits. And Russell Wilson still can play.

He may not be great Russell Wilson, but he's good Russell Wilson. Deshawn Watson is washed. He's not liked by Cleveland fans. He has no leadership skills I can tell. The team doesn't necessarily gravitate to him. Cut bait. Move on. I mean, listen, it's an awful contract.

If I would have told you, hey, a couple years ago, the worst contract in the history of the NFL, guess which franchise signed it? There'd be like six teams, and the Browns would have been one of them, you would have guessed. you wouldn't have thought like less need staying cronky, you know, you wouldn't have thought the Eagles, you would have guessed among other teams. You know, a Dan Snyder team would do that or a Cleveland Brown team would do that.

What are you waiting for? Move off him. I mean, Denver moved off Russell Wilson. And it, believe me, go look at their dead cap hit today and next year. It's big, it's substantial. They had to give up draft picks. They had to give up everything. Denver's fine.

Denver's not Kansas City, but they're not bad. They got the quarterback right. They got the coach right. So Cleveland's already got the coach and the GM and the pass rusher. They're all elite. I think Stifansky, Andrew Berry, Miles Garrett, great, great, great. You can find weapons. Go get a culture creator.

I mean, look at how bad the chargers were. All they did change the coach. Boom. Last to compete for first. You don't need, you get the coach and the quarterback right, or one of them. The Rams just got McVeigh. They had golf, looked like a bust, got McVeigh. Boom.

Double-digit win, Super Bowls. So it's like you got so many of the elements in Cleveland. What are you waiting for? Denver moved off Russ, and Russ could still play. They're paying for him to play for an AFC rival, the Steelers. Let's get out of this thing. I mean, Deshawn Watson, with the Brown so far, I looked at this up this morning. Think about what these numbers are.

61% completion percentage, 81 passer rating, 19 touchdowns, 12 picks. That's Kenny Pickett. Go look it up. That's Kenny Pickett. And Kenny Pickett was a good guy. And the Steelers, they got to the playoffs, and they moved off him. And he cost nothing. I mean, so it's like you can get this headache out of the building.

But that Andrew Barry, I mean, there's nothing to salvage. The car is totaled here. There's nothing to salvage. Not liked by the fans. Can't play. Everybody feels weird. And I would argue, I'm not some psychologist here, but I think his personal issues are affecting his play. I think he's a mess upstairs.

I think the stress, the fans on the road, I mean, I think it's just, I think it's worn him. I think it's aged him overnight. Listen, I mean, it's just, Andrew Barry, you know they're having these conversations. I mean, Denver moved off Russell, and he could still play. You know they're having these conversations. Jordan Schultz around the corner. Got some men have health stuff breaking. He'll be in studio. Greg CoSell, top of next hour.

How about the, did you watch the Warriors at all last night? They're playing 12 guys. I've never seen this done before. They have a 12-man rotation. They're 7-1, beat the Celtics in Boston. I watched the second half. It's early. I know. But I didn't have them as a playoff team.

First, they are the best defensive team on the wing in the league. They got all these young kids. Okay, no Jalen Brown, no Porzingis, let's not overreact. They are looking sharp early. 7 and 1. Did you have them as a playoff team? Nope. Okay, just make it sure.

I don't even know some of the guys off the bench. I don't even know who they are. But it's working. 7 and 1, yeah, there was no Jalen Brown. It's called the NBA. Guys miss games. They're playing 12 guys, whole bench. They had a guy hit a three-pointer last night.

So with the trade deadline, I thought the really smart teams, the Baltimore's, the Kansas City, the Buffalo, they got their excellent quarterbacks, veteran savvy receivers, D-Hop to Kansas City on Monday. It already works. I didn't love the Cowboys move. What did you make of that trade deadline move? So in terms of Dallas, I thought it was really hasty. This is a team that's not a receiver away, Colin. And with Dak now and I are,

We don't know how long he's out. To go out and get Jonathan Mingo, a second round pick in Carolina two years ago, and give up a four didn't make a whole lot of sense. But this is the business that Jerry Jones runs. It is not about winning football games. And he said, prior, we want to get a wide receiver. He really tipped his hand. He overpaid.

I mean, think about this. They gave up a four back to Carolina for Mingo. Hopkins for Kansas City cost a five that could become a four. So they completely overpaid. And talk about Kansas City. What an unbelievable coup for them to get D. Hop, who three weeks ago, Colin, everyone was saying this guy's washed. He can't play anymore. He can't run. He goes out against Tampa. He has over 100 yards, two touchdowns. It is a completely different feel in one week for him in that offense with Patrick Mahomes.

And it's no coincidence that Travis Kelsey had his best game of the year. 12, 13 catches was dominant. And Kansas City told me that we want Hop to play in the slot because he can move the chains. that's similar to what Kelsey's going to do. So now you have two guys that can play inside, and even though they're different positions, they can play off of one another. Oh, by the way, they have Xavier Worthy,

who's going to take the top off of defense, and they have Pacheco and hopefully Hollywood Brown coming back soon as well. That offense feels a lot different within one week, and Patrick Mahomes had his best game of the year as well. So all of that together makes me feel like Kansas City, who also got Josh Hushie two years ago, 10 and a half sacks, really had a great deadline.

I'll give you a couple more. I thought Pittsburgh did quite well. getting Mike Williams, did not have great tape with the Jets, was not a great fit with the Jets. Aaron Rogers said his ACL really hurt him with us. He wasn't 100% back, but I think Mike Williams gives them a true 50-50 ball winner. That's what we think, in the Red Zone especially. That's all they need. Pittsburgh told me three weeks ago, Mike Williams was the target because we need someone to play off of George Pickens

inside the 20s, 50-50 ball. They also got Preston Smith, a really good 68-5-6-8-5 career. with Sacks. So you add him to a defensive line, strength on strength. They have Highsmith, they have Watt. Now you add a guy who's been in playoff games and Preston Smith. And how about the Detroit Lions? What a job they did. They get Zedarius Smith. He was with Green Bay. He knows the NFC North really well. He has three Pro Bowls to his name. He has eight playoff games. The Detroit Lions are never going to be able to replace Aidan Hutchinson, who leads the league in Sacks. But you bring in Smith, who has probably the best experience

that they could possibly get. And not only that, the Lions had nobody else on the roster with more than two and a half sacks this year. So you bring in a guy who knows the division, can play in big games, and most importantly, can be a mentor to those young guys bring them along. I love what Detroit did.

Yeah, we all love what Detroit has done for the last four years. Their personnel department's really, really good. You know, it's interesting. A couple of things here. Christian McCaffrey's coming back. The Niners are at four and four. I actually think the Rams and the Niners are going to go on a real surge,

Rams getting healthier, the Niners getting CMC back. What do you think he, I mean, your connections there. What does he do for that locker room and that team now? So I talked to a defense of coordinator whose team is likely going to be in the playoffs, good defense, and I said, if Christian McCaffrey comes back this week next week, does that give San Francisco a legitimate Super Bowl push? And he said, what Christian McCaffrey is going to do for this offense is completely magnetize it? And I said, what do you mean by that?

He said, well, when you're playing against LeBron James, for example, and the NBA, cross-sport analogy, and we love those, your entire game plan shifts to LeBron because you have to take account for him on every single play. So even when McCaffrey doesn't have the football, this offense is going to be a lot better. You're going to see a big production increase from Kittle, Debo Samuel, and then Brock Purdy's come back down the earth the last few weeks. But this is going to be a domino effect. For an offense in the red zone, I know you've talked about this a lot.

22nd in red zone percentage in terms of touchdowns. Now you're going to see that offense in the red zone get back into that top five, top 10, where they belong. So it's not like he's not going to solve all their problems and they've had some injuries, but McCaffrey gives Kyle Shanahan that magnetizable weapon that he hasn't had. So it's pretty clear in the last four weeks. I call it borders that, first of all, Philadelphia doesn't lose when Jalen Hertz doesn't have turnovers.

Now, you're going to have some against better teams. but they put up almost, it's almost like when you bowl with your kids, you put the things in the gutter. So what they've done with the office, what do they call those bumpers? Bumpers. What they've done with Jalen Hertz is,

we want you to run a little more. We're going to bring about six to eight attempts down, and they have said, listen, this is what we want you to do, and this is what it feels like to me watching Philadelphia. They're not, bills have done this for years. They get two Josh Allen-centric.

So Jalen can do some of the, things Josh can. But I always think you get less efficient the more you ask of a quarterback. When I watch Philly, I think they found a formula for Jalen. What do you hear? So I think the last few weeks

he has played his best football. And we talked about five or six weeks ago, I think I mentioned, I thought Philadelphia should not be in panic mode. And it's the first time in four years that Howie Roseman, the GM, did not make a deal with the deadline. That tells me that he feels really good about Jalen Hertz. He feels really

good about A.J. Brown and Devante Smith, who's had his two best games of the year. I mean, Sequan Barclay is really, he's the Magnus Carlson chess piece. He's three moves ahead of the defense on every single play. He's the offensive, to me, offensive player of the year ahead of Derek Henry right now. He's been that

dominant three times. He's been player of the week in the AFC. I would say he's third in my MVP race. So you would go Lamar, Alan. Seekwan. Okay, so, and then maybe Henry's four or five. So Seekwon gives that offense an entirely new dimension. I think it really helps Jaylen with the play action.

Their play action yards has gone up the last three weeks in terms of it was at about five and a half six. Now it's seven and seven and a half. Isn't that interesting? So he's throwing the ball down the field a little more. And then I think defensively they have found two terrific young corners. Cooper DeGine, who they traded up to get in the second round, and Quignan Mitchell out of Toledo, who's their outside corner, their speed guy. He can run with everyone.

And then DeGine plays inside. He's a punt returner. Those two guys are the big reason. why Philly's defense through the past aerial attack is seventh and past yards allowed. And last year they were 25-16. Howie just didn't feel, hey, we're getting better.

We don't need another piece. We don't need another piece. We're okay. We have a really good offensive line. We got Dallas Goddard coming back. We avoided disaster with the A.J. Brown injury. So I really like where Phillies at, and I like to what you said. Jalen Hertz, if he can throw the ball 22, 24 times a game, run five or six.

That's the design. You don't want Jalen Hertz throwing 35 times a game. Listen, I don't want Josh Allen and Mahomes throwing 45. I think offensive linemen are better going forward than back. And I think anytime you ask an offensive tackle to go back pedal 45 times, you're begging for trouble.

They want to go full speed ahead and pancake. And I just don't like any quarterback throwing 45 times a game. It's not a shot at Jalen Hurts, but I just don't like it. You remember this summer we had Deon Dawkins in studio from Buffalo. I asked him, how much more fun is it to run block? And he said,

man, run block. That's what we love to do. Pass block is a necessity. But when you run block, now you're getting excited. You control it. You're going forward. Your first move is forward, as opposed to back. So now all of a sudden, you as an offensive line get that momentum. One move we didn't talk about, I want to

address because we're in the NFC East, is Washington getting Marcus Latimer. Now, I had a GM tell me, he worries about his health, but the GM also said, I would have made the move, but it can be a bit of a caution here. He misses time. So we talked about Cleveland with the reset, Zedarius Smith,

New Orleans felt the same way with Marcus Latimore. That's been the one knock on him. He has been injured. I don't think he's going to play this week, I was told, by the way. I know he hasn't practiced a whole lot. But long term, you think about this season, the second half, Washington, that was the one position they didn't have. They had a dearth of corners.

They drafted Emmanuel Forbes. I like him. Has him played the last couple weeks. Marcus Latimer's a four-time pro bowler. He's 28 years old, and he's a vertical corner. He plays on the outside. And so I asked the GM as well, why do you think they made this move? Is it an all-in?

Now he said, they made this move. move so that they can go up against Philadelphia who's controlled that division the last four years. Marcus Latimore is going to guard Devante Smith. He's going to guard he's going to cover A.J. Brown. He can travel some. And Dan Quinn has always had a lockdown corner with his

best defenses, whether it's Richard Sherman in Seattle. You think about how good he was with Diggs or Dron Bland last year in Dallas. Marcus Latimore is that. They have played more zone than Dan Quinn would like this year. Now you can play man, that single high look. Marcus Latimore gives the commanders a whole

lot more flexibility defensively. And it's amazing, Colin, what a great young, electric talent can do in Jaydon Daniels. He's changed the whole face of the franchise. So I love what they did. They were aggressive. They get a terrific, terrific corner who's only 28. And by the way, this year, $600,000, that's always going to cost them. So he's very affordable. Really good move by the commanders. Yeah, Jordan Schultz. Good stuff today. You brought good energy. Did you have some of Dad Starbuck? I got Pop here. I got a little espresso. I got my best friend.
