Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I put on 10.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way
with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences,
having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere,
but you're having them with a licensed professional
who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
and just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

Here we go.
It is a Friday game one NBA finals in the books live in Los Angeles.
It's The Heard.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, thanks for making us part of your day.
J. Mack, you lean toward the Mavs in this series.
I lean toward the Celtics in this series.
You sweating, a little sweating this morning because that was problematic.
Much ado about nothing.
Dallas is fine.
They're going to be okay.
It's one game card.
All right.
I don't like to overreact, but it was not a positive night for Dallas.
So the Celtics, as you saw, have a much greater cushion in this series.
So Jason Tatum scored like 10 points under his average,
and they still let at one point by 29 points over a very good and very hot Dallas team.
that Dallas has sort of a path to win
and that means Luca and Kyrie are both money
one wasn't last night
and so if you really look at the Celtics
you have five different players
who could be a one or a two
so Porzingis is a one or a two score
Tatum is a one
Brown could be a one but he's a two
Derek White on bad teams
is a two and Drew Holiday
last year for the bucks pre-dame was a two
four Celtics on the
this roster have made multiple
all-star teams.
The Celtics are what the NBA
is trying to avoid.
They didn't like that Golden State,
great team, add KD.
They didn't like that. The new
CBA makes it almost impossible
to get three stars.
And whether or not you want to
classify Porzingis and Drew
Holiday as stars, they could drop
24 points on any night and you
wouldn't be surprised.
Porzingus last night, he was the first
Unicorn. He was the first big that came into this game. Pre-Wemby and poor
Chet Hongren. Before that name just got thrown around, that term got thrown around. Porzingas came
into this league. His game has evolved and there's nothing Dallas can do. Dallas does not have
the luxury or the cushion offensively that Boston has.
Luca and Kyrie for them to win, both have to be wizards.
Kyrie was bad for big chunks of the game, and they got blown out.
And so the Celtics have multiple paths to win in this final.
Last night, Taden didn't score a lot.
Jason Tatum, their guy didn't score a lot.
Didn't matter.
Poor Zingos was money.
So the one team in the West that gave Dallas trouble was OKC.
Really had them beat.
OKC is a younger.
cheaper, less talented version of Boston.
They don't have multiple guys with all-star appearances.
And OKC, they've got a Chet Homegrid,
a big who can go outside and hit threes, like Porzengis.
They have multiple wing defenders.
They can throw at a Luca.
So Boston is a better version of the team that gave the Mavs
the most trouble in the West, OKC.
So Boston has the ability, they got four, five,
guys, they can spread the floor.
Both Horford and Porzinger, their bigs,
can pull you outside and hit threes.
Horford's a great three-ball shooter
from the corner, and the Celtics have
three or four guys or more that can put out on a
wing and defend your guys and keep
throwing bodies at Luca. So this is a
problematic series. I mean, Boston is 5
and 0 against
the Mavs, all
lobsided wins
when Joe Missoula
has been the coach. This may
just be a bad matchup for Dallas. Now,
I think Dallas will probably play a very inspired first quarter, at least against Boston in game two,
because they played poorly.
But the other part of this game that's a real story, beyond Porzingis and the offensive depth that the Celtics provide,
which the NBA would like to avoid this kind of roster where it's got five, six guys.
I mean, Horford's made multiple all-star games in his prime.
They don't want this.
They don't want stacked rosters.
Boston's kind of a stacked roster.
It doesn't feel like the Warriors because they won pre-KD.
But this team is, this is All-Stars.
This is one and two guys.
Loaded all of them.
Derek White's probably the most underrated guy in the league.
He made first team all-NBA defense.
And he's a very good offensive player.
He's a two for a lot of teams in this league.
He's a four to a five on this team.
It's not what the NBA wants.
The other thing is Brad Stevens, the GM of the Celtics one executive of the year.
But he didn't just win it just for adding Porzingis and Drew Holliday.
he also upgraded the coaching staff
Missoula had the better game plan
against the older, more experienced coach Jason Kidd
this coaching staff is older
how about the timeout in the third quarter
Mavs get on a run
Celtics call a timeout
they tweak they adjust and they go to 14-0-0 run
so I think Dallas
is not a very good game one team
Dallas has been very good in game two
I think they'll play a very inspired
first half against Boston.
Teams that get humiliated have that urgency and desperation.
I think they'll play very, very well.
But Boston is a handful.
They got Porzingis and Horford.
They're very okay C, but better.
Bigs can shoot.
They can guard you one-on-one.
They can throw multiple wing defenders at you.
They got four of their five guys on that team.
Multiple-time all-stars.
One guy, all-NBA first team as well.
That's a loaded roster.
The new CBA makes,
this hard. You need a sharp exact. You need some luck. You need some breaks. They kind of stole
Porzingis. And here he was after. But at the end, it's just basketball. And I've been doing
this for a long time. But tonight was like a firm affirmation to myself, know that I'm pretty good.
You know, maybe I'm not perfect, but I'm pretty good. And I can play like this. And I can definitely
add to this team. Yeah, I don't think there's any question about that.
All right, so, Los Angeles, we got Disneyland out here, we got the mountains and the beaches.
It is a nice place to visit, and that's exactly what Yukon's basketball coach.
Dan Hurley is doing today.
He is in Los Angeles meeting with the Lakers.
So most college basketball coaches, like 95% feel like college basketball coaches.
They've got the big ego.
I don't even have to mention the names.
They need control.
They're control freaks.
They scream at their players.
From roster to set plays, they need control.
They feel like college coaches.
I got a list right here about 10 guys.
There's yellers.
There's screamers.
There's egos.
And the other thing is, two guys have made it.
Billy Donovan and Brad Stevens.
Both are really, really sharp guys.
Both non- screamers.
Both like control, but they're not control.
Fleex. My concern for Dan Hurley, he's a barker. It is his DNA. He can bark. He kind of demands things
instead of asking for them. And that works at the college level, especially when you're winning.
I think he could work, but I could see some pushback. That's why I believe the Lakers have to
give him a massive deal, $12 million a year, $5 years, $60 million, work with the Lakers. I think
LeBron for a couple years, but eventually
draft develop and move off
him with AD as the centerpiece.
I have my doubts
if the Lakers
can handle this. I think Hurley
can handle it. He's a tough
cat. I don't know if the Lakers
can't. The Lakers
have the patience of a nine-year-old
in the back of a car
coming home from vacation, and they keep
asking mom and dad, are we there yet?
Ten minutes later, are we
there yet? And I think that's what the Lakers, Jeannie, Bus, and Rob Polinka would be asking by year
three. Are we there yet? Are we great yet? Hey, hey, hey, Dan, I mean, are we there yet? Are we
almost? And it's going to take time. This is not a very good roster. It's got an old legend in
LeBron and a very, very elite defensive player, not as dependable offensively, but a top player
in AD, then a bunch of guys,
then a bunch of three and four and five guys,
just guys, rotational guys,
Jared Vanderbilt, Austin Reeves can, you know, a little bit of a playmaker,
not a one, two, or three in a championship team.
He'd come off the bench for the Celtics.
That can't be your three.
I mean, come on.
Derek White's a better player, and he's like, they're five.
Poor Zingis is a better player.
If you watched the first quarter of that game last night,
seven, three, handles can shoot like a guard.
Come on.
So I don't question it.
I will say Hurley is intense.
The NBA, it's 82 games minimum.
You make the playoffs, it becomes 90, 95 games very quickly.
Paul Pierce on this show yesterday talked about his first NBA coach, Rick Batina, who had just come from Kentucky.
When you come out of college and playing for a college-based coach, I thought the pros was
no different from college. Until I heard from like other players, veterans that were on the team,
you know, you had Kenny Anderson, Dana Barrows, you know, guys who play for other NBA
coaches, they'd be like, you know, this is not the NBA. This is crazy. It was times where we lost
the game. We would land one in the morning and we'd be at to be in the gym in the hour. We
practicing on back to backs. But I don't know no different. I don't know no different until like
really until like Doc come around
you know and then I was like oh this is this is NBA
so again I think Hurley could work
I think it could be a little bumpy with his volume
but it really comes down to the Lakers will they
finally not be the nine year old in the back of the car
coming home from vacation will they be a little patient
I don't know if they will be L.A. is a very distracted market
the Dodgers future, the Rams, the Chargers, USC's looks really good, really successful.
I don't know if the Lakers Steve Ballmer, New Arena, I don't know if they can handle being the fourth or fifth biggest story in L.A. for a couple years.
J. Mack, I want you to be positive. I don't want you to freak out. But there are some matchup concerns for Dallas.
I don't think they're going to keep Boston's offense under wraps. Now, I do think they can play better defensive.
offensively, but I do think there are times when you get into a series against the team that you have to admit certain things.
Like, hey, we're not going to stop Luca or Boston's going to get theirs.
They're going to score 160 in these games.
They're just going to get their points.
Yeah, it was troubling when they hit seven threes in the first quarter.
I think they hit like eight or nine the rest of the game.
But, yeah, I think we hit on some of these matchups, right?
Lively, we liked him a lot.
I don't know that he's a great fit in the series.
I agree.
They put him in pick and roll all afternoon.
It's like Jason Tatum against Live.
on the perimeter, that's not good.
I got to say Jalen Brown was phenomenal.
Jalen Brown was so damn good.
My pick for the MVP of the series.
I think 22 points on 12 shots.
And in that third quarter, when Dallas cut it to eight,
everybody's shooting threes on Boston.
Brown's like, screw this, I'm driving.
He kept attacking, getting to the foul line.
That's a smart player.
I picked Luca at half court for the dunk.
Like, Brown, that's a good bet by you.
Yeah, no, Jaylen, I know exactly what I get
from about 10 players in the NBA every game.
nine of them are viewed as elite offensive players.
Brown works harder for his points.
He's not quite as fluid.
But I know what I'm getting.
He reminds me a lot of de-weight.
Not a brilliant outside shooter, but hits big shots and often decides to physically
lean on you, finish physically punish you.
He's very de-wayed to me.
Always great effort.
Smart basketball player.
Get in your kitchen.
Make you uncomfortable.
And ends up with 25 points all the time.
He's a really good basketball player.
D. Wade was never as naturally,
offensively pleasing, more of a mid-range game.
Didn't have a beautiful shot,
but he ends up with 25 and guards your best player.
And that's Jalen Brown.
High IQ, high effort, great body type.
Like, he's one of those NBA guys
that if he had a chosen football eight years ago,
you're like, you'd find, I mean,
he's just physically stronger than most pro basketball players.
It kind of looks like, if you squint,
do you see a little prime warriors
with this team five out, shooting a million threes,
can defend multiple positions.
Well, I mean, Porzingis is your KD.
Obviously, KD's better, but like just a matchup problem.
Yeah.
Just a matchup problem.
And their, their, their, their, Dremont is Drew Holiday, maybe,
who's like a smart passer can defend literally anyone.
He'll defend Luke in the Post.
They're built really well.
And fully formed?
It's like a really good team, man.
Yeah.

To be clear, 84 was big to me not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so...
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black.
black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in
American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you

We get so wrapped up in the chase

and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person

Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

So we have seen through the years environments in sports can affect athletes.
We know there's top golfers who play well on certain courses.
Top tennis players play well on certain surfaces.
At the college level, college teams are almost always much better at home.
They're young.
They can unravel, be intimidated on the road.
But in pro football, pro basketball, hockey, baseball, you know, you usually know what you're getting.
But I, from stars, pro athletes.
But I did feel last night it was like Kyrie in front of that crowd felt like he was almost affected by it.
He and Luca, your turn, my turn.
Not many assists by Kyrie.
I just felt he and Luca were just disjointed out of sorts.
Now, some of it is obviously Boston.
Boston is so deep defensively, so many good wing defenders in such good size with Porzingas,
they can just guard you man-on-man one-on-one and not switch.
I mean, Jason Tatum can guard a big.
He can guard a wing.
So Boston's really good defensively, and I don't think Minnesota was good defensively.
I think this team has just certain gifts.
You know, their best player, Jason Tatum, is a veteran.
Ant's a kid.
And so the Celtics, it's hard to manipulate them.
They can just guard you one-on-one.
They don't have to necessarily switch.
Their bakes can stay at home.
Tatum, I got it from here.
Holiday.
Derek White.
Now, we're good on the wing.
We don't need help.
They're a very hard team to manipulate.
The other thing about Kyrie, we've got to be honest.
Luke is amazing.
Kyrie has been hot and cold in the playoffs.
He has two nine-point games.
He's got two 12-point games.
He's got multiple games.
He's been dreadful from three-point range.
One for seven.
and 0 for 5, a 1 for 6, and 0 for 3 in the playoffs.
So Kyrie has been all over the map
beyond the arc in these playoffs.
Now, he gets away with it
because Dallas is well coached, better defensively,
and Luca, he wins those close games.
But Kyrie talked about his night in Boston after.
It's basketball at the end of the day.
You know, being in this environment, you know,
I'm used to it at this point.
You know, early in my career,
there was a different relationship that I had with Boston,
just being able to come here, be settled with a veteran group.
Now I'm here as the veteran over the past few years,
just experiencing the playoffs here, even regular season.
It's been the same thing.
I thought it was going to be a little louder in here.
But I'm expecting the same things going into game two,
the crowd trying to get me out of my element.
The environment is going to be what it is,
but my focus is on our game plan and making sure my guys feel confident
and I feel confident.
I probably wouldn't have said I thought it was going to be louder.
Although I do think Dallas will play very well, especially early in game two.
Here's Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, let's start in the NFL with Jalen Hertz and the Eagles.
Colin, as much as we've talked about the Eagles this offseason, he's going to have his third straight diff and offensive coordinator.
I think that's a bigger storyline that we know.
Kellen Moore is the guy now.
And, you know, between Nick Siriani and Moore,
they're describing the offense as a hybrid scheme
incorporating both coaches' previous systems.
According to Hertz, almost everything is brand new.
You get to a point where you kind of feel,
hey, I'm going to feel comfortable with this.
I'm going to like this.
But that time comes, well, you can wrap it,
wrap it, wrap it later on.
But, you know, right now it's been a lot of new inventory in.
Majority of it, you know, probably 95% of it being new.
And so it's just been that process, and it's been a fun process
because you get to see what works for other people.
Playoff team, no question.
No question.
No question.
No question.
We'll see.
You're a little higher on Jalen Hertz.
I like him, but I do worry about the pullback last year.
A lot of turnovers, injuries.
I don't know.
I'm just trying to think of a guy who went to the Super Bowl with Stuyken was unbelievable.
And then they bring in a new O.C.
Didn't work.
Now they got another O.C.
I don't know.
Imagine if, you know, Fox kept putting new guys in charge of this show.
And they wanted to just constantly tweak it.
And one day you were like, yeah, 95% of what we're doing is new stuff.
You start kind of covering hockey.
Cricket.
Start talking to hockey.
Yeah, I mean, I think, yeah, I don't know.
Football players are used to change.
I don't worry.
But why wouldn't you go back to what made you successful?
Because you've got to remember, these coaches, most coaches aren't Andy Reed.
They can't coach to their players.
Most coaches are limited.
McVeigh can coach to his players.
Those are very rare.
A lot of these coaches, this is what I do.
Pete Carroll at the end.
It was like the players got better, the defense didn't.
He had a style.
He had a way to do things.
He wasn't going to tweak it hugely or significantly.
Like, coaches coach what they do.
Here's my system.
Here's my style.
Here's what I do.
And so I've thought about this.
Why don't other basketball coaches take the triangle?
Phil Jackson, a pretty good coach.
Coaches, Brad Stevens is one of the coaches.
I've talked to an executive in the league about this.
Brad Stevens intellectually, Steve Kerr intellectually, guys that can tweak stuff.
They're guys that are quick learners.
But a lot of coaches, like, have their thing and do their things.
You see it all through the NFL.
There's a lot of guys that this is what I do.
And then if you're really good, like Demico Ryan's at Houston, you may be a defensive coach,
but you go to San Francisco with Shanahan and you take what Kyle does to your game,
and then you implement that with the Texans.
Now, that's what really good young coaches do.
Rahim Morris, Sean McVeigh, he'll probably implement some of McVeigh's stuff.
But a lot of these older coaches in these sports, this is what I do, this is my defense.
they hire assistants that can teach their view of the world.
Frank Vogel's got his style.
Mike Dantonie sort of does what he does.
I do kind of wonder about Kellynne Moore, too.
Remember, he was like a hot shot in Dallas.
They loved him and then was like, ooh, we're moving on.
And then we went to the Chargers, flopped.
Like, I don't want to say this is his last chance as an OC, but this can't go poorly for Kellanmore.
Like he's got to thrive.
By the way, they all could be fired if this doesn't go well.
Head coach.
Seriani's a little.
Little chippy, a little immature to me.
Just just, I'm, this could unravel again, absolutely.
Scary.
That's good news for Dallas, actually.
Next up is Caleb Williams.
Spent the last three weeks of practice getting a feel for the Bears' offense,
although he's experienced some ups and downs, as every rookie would.
He's gotten a ton of praise.
One thing that stood out to Caleb is this new high-powered offense.
I didn't come in necessarily with ever.
expectation to, you know, to be a, and seem like a 13-year vet. I came in to, you know, to work,
I work my tail off, show the guys that I'm here. I'm working my tail off. I'm progressing.
And, you know, trying not to make the same mistake again. That's the biggest thing.
Day in the day I was trying not to make the same mistake over and over and learn from them.
Right now, we're working with our head down and we're building. And so, you know, just having that
that moment with myself. I do it every day.
as I sit there and say, we're going to be pretty damn good.
Really, hamming it up for the cameras there, the hard knocks cameras.
We're going to be pretty damn good, says the rookie on a team that's never had a good quarterback.
That's very negative.
When did they go to the playoffs last?
Was that with Trubisky?
Yeah, Trubisky got him.
Matt Nagy and Trubisky.
Yeah, they didn't win.
I remember because I had money on them and it was the double-doinck field goal.
Remember that?
They got there.
That's like Kyler-Marie.
Wait, we got to the playoffs.
Way to go, guys.
Boy, you are on one today already.
No, no, no.
I'm just...
Chicago, we need Chicago.
Now, I'm not a house guy.
Who's me?
Fox needs...
We need Chicago to be good because they're in those one o'clock windows.
They've got a lot of one o'clock window games.
And I didn't think the NFL did the traditional networks any favor with their one o'clock window games.
It's a lot of saints.
It's a lot of Washington.
It's a lot of Chicago.
So if Jaden Daniels and Caleb Williams hit it, then the one o'clock window is going to be really fun.
And I have Washington and Chicago kind of battling for a wild card to the end of the year.
Washington?
Sometimes you've got to root for the home team.
Yeah.
Our guys.
A lot of people work very hard here, so you want that one o'clock.
Because the NFL clearly, they've made Christmas a priority.
It's Wednesday.
They're moving games to streaming services.
The Thursday schedule is the best ever.
Monday night football.
Sunday night football.
I felt like they kind of forgot the one o'clock window.
The NFL's right.
They want to juice up the primetime games and get big ratings.
They'd be like, look, we got a big ratings.
But again, you give me a couple, and we know the teams that are going to get put in the late Fox, the late CBS, the money.
It's going to be the Baltimore, San Francisco, Detroit.
Jets, Kansas City.
We know that.
So I'm hoping if Chicago and Washington can just be fun to watch.
I think Jaden's got a little Lamar.
I think Caleb's got a little Mahomes, and I think they're going to have bumps.
but my guess is both are pretty good, pretty quickly.
Optimistic, Kyle, what do you have for breakfast today?
Geez, you come out all sunny and rosy?
Red Bull! There it is.
I'm jumping through the screen, baby.
Red Bull at 9 a.m. Oh, my gosh.
Final story is C.J. Stroud. Oh, my goodness.
This is the third straight day we talked to C.J. Stroud bashing Aaron Rogers.
Okay?
So the latest one, and it came, again, from sitting down for this podcast, is, you know,
he talked about the idea that Rogers' relationship with his teammates cost to.
Tim Super Bowl wins, saying, we don't know how Aaron Rogers treats his teammates,
but you can guarantee that Tom Brady treats his teammates right because of how he got them rings.
Boy, CJ Stroud has given a lot of bulletin board material to Aaron Rogers.
Like, where's this coming from, Colin?
I kind of like it.
A little salty.
But about what?
C.J. Stroud. He's planning his flag.
He's a Brady guy. He's a winner. He's in trophies, not fame.
money and podcasting.
I'm liking C.J. Stroud a lot.
I like him. I like what I hear.
He's planting his flag, man.
I'm about winning games.
Aaron has won games, but it's a lot about Aaron.
That's not even a criticism.
That is absolutely true.
A lot of Aaron stuff is about Aaron.
Tom's stuff was about winning.
And C.J. is planting his flag.
I'm a Tom guy.
We have to make him a regular on the show if he's available.
CJ Stroud?
Monday mornings after winning another game.
Geez. Now, I got to ask, do you think there's any truth to that sentiment that Rogers' teammates didn't like him?
No, I think Rogers' teammates do like him. I think Aaron's teammates do like him, but I know two teammates that do, did like him, and still found him to be moody and sometimes a little to himself, a little aloof.
And they liked him. These were fans of Aaron, but you kind of got to wait on the day for Aaron. What's Aaron's mood today?
Tom kind of gave you the same personality, same temperament every day.
So you've got to pick your spots with Rodgers?
Aaron's, you know, older, single, rich, good-looking guy.
Just, you know, they kind of go to their own drummer.
They do what they want to do.
That's just the reality of men.
Old, rich, never married, no kids, no sacrificing, can be a little different.
You do what you want to do when you want to do it.
Got a little prickly in the end, and then, you know, Green Bay said there's the door.
You keep saying older, he's only 40.
Is that old?
40, never married, no kids.
Does he have a pet?
I mean, at some point.
I think he has a pet iguana.
I'm not sure.
No, that's a pet.
You talk to the iguana every day.
Bounce of the conspiracy theories off the iguana.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lie News.
I got to tell you, I find this story,
this is Caitlin Clark stuff to me is just fascinating.
It's got a racial component.
It's got a gender component.
Gino Oriama, who's a great coach.
she's the best women's basketball coach of all time, said,
Caitlin Clark was set up for failure, calls out the delusional fans.
He went on to say, listen, these people are so disrespectful and so unknowledgeable in the Dan Patrick show to give women's basketball a bad name.
This kid was set up for failure right from the beginning.
She's not built for the physicality of the league yet.
She's not quick enough to get away from the physicality.
So let me start by saying fans are all delusional.
Fans overvalue their own players.
They blame refs for every law.
I mean, you ask an Ohio State Buckeye fan, they've never lost a game.
It's the refs.
It's a conspiracy theory.
It's just, that's fans.
Even my smartest friends, they're blaming the refs.
The number one pick, let's start with there.
The number one pick in all pro leagues does not turn things around year one.
You know how many games?
The Spurs won this year with Wemby?
The same number they won last year without Wemby.
Andrew Luck in 2012 is the only guy that has walked into this league and carried a crappy roster.
Joe Burrow, year one, two and seven, and one and got hurt.
Trevor Lawrence, 3 and 14, awful.
Kyler Murray, 5, 10, and 1 led the NFL in Sacks.
Again, Wemby, Spurs this year were 22 and 60.
I think that's what they were the year before.
They were just more fun to watch with Wembe.
So everybody take a deep breath.
There's a racial component here.
Yes, there is.
There's a gender component.
And let me talk about that.
This is hard for a lot of people.
I'll speak slowly.
we do treat women differently.
We're more protective.
Do you know women were not allowed to run marathons in the Olympics until 1984?
There was no science to back that.
They weren't allowed to run the Boston Marathon until the late 60s.
There was no science for that.
We felt protective.
Women were not allowed to box in the Olympics until 2012.
guys have been boxing in the Olympics since 1904.
It actually speaks well of us.
A lot of men in the media feels different when people are picking on Caitlin Clark.
Dads are tougher on boys.
Right?
Toughing them up.
Get them ready.
The reality is some of this, there's a racial component, there's a gender component,
but I will say this.
Caitlin Clark's got a little Steph Curry and a little Larry Burney.
she's a trash talker
she's tough she got a little swag
little swagger to her
not that she's brought this on
but she's built for this
the media so far is not
it's okay
but I understand it
this was somewhat predictable
a rookie going into a pro
league is going to be overwhelmed
Wemby Kyler Murray
Joe Burrow
Trevor Lawrence and these are like
Trevor Lawrence is like an all-time talent
Caleb Williams this year
I think if he wins eight, they should have a parade in Chicago.
If they go eight and nine, he's going to have a four interception game.
That's the way it works.
But it could be the Olympics, it could be marathon running, it could be boxing.
There is a gender component here where it doesn't feel quite right.
I keep hearing they're picking on her.
And maybe they are.
They're targeting her.
Yeah, probably.
There's a money component, a financial component.
She's got, you know, $28 million shoe deal.
and multiple endorsements.
So there's some jealousy.
Prove it.
But again, I'll say it.
I think she's built for it.
She got a little Larry Bird trash talk.
She kind of gets in your face.
She's not intimidated by it.
She's never complained about it.
I don't think you can, I don't necessarily think you can blame fans.
Caitlin Clark was discussed yesterday by Gino, though, in the Dan Patrick show.
If you're a college player and you're a great college
player like Caitlin was, the delusional fan base that follows her, disrespected the WMBA
players by saying she's going to go in that league and tear it apart.
These people are so disrespectful and so unknowledgeable and so stupid.
So the kid was set up for failure right from the beginning.
But nobody's printing.
You know Diana Tarassey was right.
This kid's on the wrong team.
She's got the wrong skill set.
They handled the physicality of that league.
And she's a rookie.
There's a huge target on this kid's back.
She's just not built for the physicality of this league.
For the record, I don't think fans disrespected the WNBA.
They didn't watch it.
And if you don't watch the WNBA, and James Jones pointed this out,
he has been watching it for years.
Professional men's basketball, men jump over other big men and dunk it.
you'll see an occasional WNBA breakaway dunk,
but it's not as vertical a league.
It's more grounded, and it's more pushing and shoving to score.
It's more the manipulation of bodies.
In the NBA, you can't stay in front of anybody.
Everybody's too quick.
The bags are shooting threes.
The little guys are flying past you,
and then jumping over you and dunking.
That's not part of the WNBA's game,
this vertical nature around the basket jumping over people,
so it's a push-shub game.
But I don't think the fact.
fans are necessarily any more delusional than other fans.
They just don't watch the WNBA until now, and now they feel like she's being bullied.
And I think it's something that we're just more comfortable with young male athletes getting
pushed around sacked, rub your face in the dirt a little bit.
I think people probably are a little bit more comfortable guys dealing with that.
So I think there's a lot of components here at play, money, race, gender.
But I'll say it again, Caitlin Clark appears to be built for it.
She's not complaining about it.
I mean, she's averaging 16 points a game.
I think five rebounds, six and a half assists.
She's not shooting terribly well, 38%.
But it's realistic to think next year she'll be at 18.5 a game.
Six rebounds, seven and a half assists, shooting 43%.
That is kind of a natural ascension or ascension of her skills.
And I think she's been kind of what we thought.
She can get her own shot.
She's a hell of a shooter.
She is a playmaker.
She sees the floor.
and it's a bumpy year one.
Welcome to college star entering the pros.
Andrew Luck is the outlier.
And even in Andrew Luck's rookie year and second year,
what did they always complain about?
He throws too many interceptions.
That's because nobody was open.
But, I mean, he made a lot of mistakes.
He took sacks.
He threw a lot of picks.
And he was considered in 2012,
one of the all-time, like John Elway great,
right out of the shoot.
And he was a turnover machine.
Take a deep breath.
Caitlin's going to be okay.
We're all going to be okay.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but literally.
But just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed, correct.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast.

Tomorrow it doesn't get any better than Super Saturday on Fox.
First, it's Philly's Mets from London.
Yeah.
Followed by the Belmont Stakes, live from Saratoga, and in primetime, it's Dodgers Yankees,
all on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
Yankee Stadium was buzzing for the Twin Series, I was told.
I had a friend that was in New York.
So what is it going to be like for the Yankees Dodgers?
You're not getting tickets there.
Very expensive.
Out of my price range.
price range. Let me tell you something right now. Yankees, Dodgers, you got to watch those games.
That's an all-star game. That is as good a baseball series in years.
Like really stacked rosters.
So Christop's Porzengas was obviously great last night.
So the NBA is a big man's game. The average player is 666, 67.
So for years there was this narrative. Small ball.
It was Steph Curry and the Warriors. It was mostly Draymond Green was a uniquely small.
and a great defender and Steph Curry was amazing.
But small ball was like, hey, you can have five guys on the floor.
They can all run, handle it, and shoot.
But let's be frank.
It won titles for one team, the Warriors.
Porzingis, you watched them last night.
Defensive end, offensive.
He's seven foot three with guard skills.
That's the NBA, my entire life.
Two guards, two little guys.
Isaiah Thomas and Steph Curry have led dynasties,
and they were surrounded by really good players.
But Magic wasn't small
Shack wasn't Duncan wasn't
Akim wasn't MJ wasn't Kobe wasn't
Bird wasn't
Duncan wasn't
And most guys aren't small
They're not
They can hit a shot
But Steph
The best version of Golden State
Smallball team
The best version of it
They added 611 KD
That was the best version
When they got big
So I think small ball work
This is my theory
From like 2012 or 2013 to 2016
It worked
Because the centers weren't very big
He had Jo Kim Noah, Tyson Chandler, Mark Gasol, you know, defensive guys.
But the minute the bigs got good again, Janus, M.B., Yokic, A.D., and now you watch Porzenghis, it's a big man's game.
Basketball's always been a big man's game. It's always been for tall guys.
You just don't, I mean, you just, now some of them, they can sometimes break down physically.
Greg Oden's career.
It just didn't happen.
Kwame Brown wasn't as good as we thought.
There are busts.
There are guys that don't land.
But this whole small ball thing,
a lot of that was like a four or five year period.
It felt like when the centers weren't dominant.
The minute great centers arrived,
here comes Wembe.
Now we got Chet Hongren, NAD, and Yonis,
and Mbid, and Yokic.
Well, look who's good.
I mean, Dallas got better when they added size and forwards.
They already had Luca.
They already had Kyrie.
It wasn't until they added size in the first.
front court, you're like, oh. So Porzingis talked about his value last night.
But at the end, it's just basketball, and I've been doing this for a long time.
But tonight was, like, a firm affirmation to myself, know that I'm pretty good.
You know, maybe I'm not perfect, but I'm pretty good, and I can play like this,
and I can definitely add to this team.
By the way, this is interesting.
the Mavericks before Luca was pulled
and the game's over they pull Luca
before that
Luca had 30 the rest of the team had 45
and the rest of the team was shooting 9% from 3
so this is potentially
J-Mack I think this is potentially
a bad matchup
styles make fights it's potentially
a bad matchup for the maps
just because
the Celtics have so many
good wing defenders who don't need help.
The bigs can stay home.
They've got so many Jalen Browns and Drew Holidays and Derek White and Jason Tatum's.
Tatum can guard a big.
He can guard a wing.
He can guard almost anybody.
And you're not going to guard Kyrie because he's quick and twitchy, but Boston has the
ability to just defend you one-on-one.
The bigs don't have to cheat.
They can defend you on the wing.
Two guys, first team, all NBA.
two others very good on defense.
So there is, and Kyrie's had some stinkers in the playoffs.
He's got at least one or two per series.
He's had two per series stinkers.
Well, those are losses automatically.
Against Minnesota, it wasn't because Minnesota struggled offensively.
Against OKC, a bunch of kids didn't necessarily mean a loss.
If Kyrie has another game like that, it's an automatic L.
Automatic L.
So here was a deflated Luca after the loss.
Their spacing is great and they have a lot of shooters
so I think we've got to do a better job
taking those three away
I think we really got good shots
just didn't make them
but we got to go game by game
now the game one is over
we got to watch film what we do
what we do wrong and focus only on the next one
I would say take the Mavericks
first quarter game two
Sunday I think they'll be great
and inspired
but I do think they're matchup issues here
I think Boston's going to get their points.
I think Horford and Porzingis are going to get, they're going to pull guys out.
Boston's good off the dribble.
I think they're going to get to about 113, 114, 14 points a game.
And the only way Dallas is going to match that, PJ Washington plays over his average,
or both Luca and Kyrie are wizards, which can open up the floor for other people.
But there are matchups.
I mean, let's be honest, Minnesota matched up perfectly with Denver.
right perfectly but Dallas may just not back Dallas had some real issues with okayC and Boston's like a better
version of okayc a much older better offensive unit so this could just be a bad matchup for
Dallas that's what you and I said I like I like Boston in that game but I said I'd like to watch it
it's the first couple rounds of a fight I'd like to watch their styles I think Dallas could be in a
little bit of trouble another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy
Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
