This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated. So let's get to it.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit are armed?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

It's the herd wherever you may be in, however you may be listening or watching.
Thanks for Megan us part of your day.
J. Mack, a lot of things going on today.
Danny Parkins checks in.
later this hour on the Chicago Bears.
I know they won. It was ugly.
I think they're getting blown out at Houston.
Joel Clatt next hour, Mark Sanchez, stops by.
I was sitting there last night, and no games last night.
I watched a little debate.
Oh, no, you didn't.
Yes, I did.
Oh, Colin.
Don't ever debate against the former prosecutor.
That's all I'm going to say. Don't do that.
So I was thinking about this about a lot of people are afraid of,
of being alone.
And to me, there's always been a big difference between lonely, that's not great, and being
alone.
I'm alone all the time, and I like it.
So Minnesota, Sam Darnal was great, but so is their defense.
And Jonathan Grenard was talking about Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Two picks, 50% completions, horrible passer rating at 44.3.
And he said, we felt bad for him.
The Vikings defense, guys like, we felt bad for him.
And I would rather have no quarterback for a year and be seeking one than have an overcompensated quarterback and be stuck and trapped.
I have, I've said this before, I am claustrophobic professionally and personally.
I don't like being trapped.
I don't like being trapped.
A lot of people don't like to be alone and they stay in bad relationships.
I'd rather, you know, I'm lucky, but if you gave me the choice of hanging out by myself and in my thoughts
or in a loveless relationship, it's real easy for me.
And I think what happens when you're alone and when you try new things and move across the country
and take a new job and you don't know how it's going to pan out, what you're saying is you don't
trust yourself.
Let's be honest about it.
You don't trust yourself.
The New York Giants don't.
trust themselves mara John Mara doesn't trust his GM that's what he's saying going
with Daniel Jones that or he doesn't understand what good quarterback play is and I
don't believe that the lesson today is don't fear the unknown the unknown is
exciting and fun I've said every job I've ever taken I wasn't ready for that's
the fun of it I had a friend years ago she took a job at Google she said she was
lost for six months
I was like, yeah, that's the great part.
But deep down, you trusted yourself.
The Giants don't trust themselves.
Daniel Jones, since he signed the contract, has a 65-passer rating.
He's 1 and 6. He's awful.
And they're still arguing.
When you have no quarterback, there's absolute clarity.
Uh-oh.
We're all getting fired unless we get this right.
That's an amazing place to be.
The only place better to be in the NFL is we got Patrick Holmes.
We got Matt Stafford.
We got Josh Allen.
We got Lamar Jackson.
We got Justin Herbert.
We got Jalen Hertz.
We got Dak.
That's the best place you want to be is having the guy.
The second best place is we don't have him.
We can get fired.
It's on us.
That's like being single.
A bad quarterback, overcompensated quarterback, Cleveland, the New York Giants.
What an awful place to be.
Give New England credit.
Three years of Mack Jones.
He got him to the playoffs.
And they're like, now we don't think he's going.
good enough and we don't think he's the right guy or leader see you russell wilson
sean peyton russell wasn't the problem last year it was denver's defense sean payton's like
yeah it's not going to work long term boom and they got their guy san francisco garoppel goes to a super
bowl so yeah i i i know but we there's certain things he can't do we're going to move off him
tray lands yeah we're going to move off that too the offensive coach is golf to staff
the offensive coaches in this league trust themselves
but a lot of the owners don't trust their GMs
a lot of the GMs don't trust their scouts
if you're if you're basically in a Cleveland relationship
now get out of Deshawn Watson's contract deal with it go find the next guy
it's a mess
go look at the great offensive coaches
they're not afraid to be alone they're not afraid to not have the guy
I mean, it's just like if you're in a six-year relationship with somebody,
you're six years, you're in a relationship.
And a friend asks you, you think he's the one or she's the one?
And your answer is, well, I really like her dad.
I mean, we just leased a car.
We have a dog together.
Time to draft a new boyfriend or girlfriend.
Time to get a new quarterback.
That's not the answer.
Fear is clarity.
No quarterback is clarity.
Everybody in the building knows.
Get it right or we're all fired.
Bet on yourself.
The Giants are afraid to do that.
Speaking of New York, you know, yesterday I thought to myself,
boy was I pessimistic.
Boy, was I negative.
And that's not who I am.
I am known in this building as glass half full column.
and I thought
there's got to be another way
to look at the Jets
and then Robert Saul, their coach,
said this yesterday.
Unfortunately, it does
because I think
I know we're going to get the defense fix
that is not a problem.
That's a problem.
It's not a problem.
And I know we're going to get a lot better
from week one and week two.
We got a great opportunity this week
against Tennessee on a short week.
And so I thought this morning
How about five positive things about the Jets?
And there are five.
Number one, San Francisco's a tough opener.
I mean, outside of Andy Reid, is there another coach in the league that you wouldn't want to face in week one than Kyle Shanahan with five months to prepare?
And we thought Christian McCaffrey out.
Trent Williams' holdout would soften things up.
No, not really.
San Francisco was a brutal opener.
How about number two?
The Jets O line didn't rank highly on PFF, but it held up.
pretty well. Bosa didn't get a sack.
I didn't think their O-line was a problem.
I thought it was fine. I didn't think it was
dominating like the Lions O-line
in overtime, but I thought it was fine
and the Niners have a better-than-average
front seven. How about
number three? This loss
in the way it happened should propel
the owner to get out the checkbook
and sign Hassan Reddick.
Like they needed a more
consistent pass rush. Brock Pretty had too much time.
How about number four?
Aaron Rogers is not as athletic as he once was
But he still throws a beautiful ball
When he had time to throw it comes out like Marino
It's beautiful
He was the fourth highest graded passer week one
I'd like to duly note that Sam Darnold was number two
But Aaron was four and it looked pretty
He always looks pretty
He's going to get more comfortable
I mean he's not very good in week one anyway
He's like one in four in his last five week one
He's kind of distracted in the offseason, does his own thing.
So Aaron's never been great in recent years.
Once he got paid the big money, he does his own thing in the summer.
I'm okay with that.
Burroughs not good in week one either.
I think he's great.
And number five is getting blown out in week one is not gloom and doom.
The last four years, a team that got blown out in week one made the playoffs.
I mean, Kansas City didn't get blown out, but Kansas City lost week one at home last year to Detroit and then won the Super Bowl.
so Julian Edelman
yesterday on our show said
let's just
pump the breaks on the doom and gloom
for New York
they played the defending
NFC championship team
against the 49ers a team
that has continuity
that's played with each other for multiple
years now
we can't just expect the Jets who were a
seven win seat
yeah with seven win team last year
to go out there and compete with like one of the
best teams in the league. And Aaron Rogers, he's smart enough to learn what he has to do to be
productive. That was his first game with live action bullets. So like, I'm pumping the brakes on the
whole thing. Yeah. I feel better about myself today. I don't want to be like negative guy
spraying the negative aerosol over the crop week one. That's not who I am. Did I mention that
Sam Darnold had the second highest passer rating? That may have slipped by. I just,
want to make sure everybody realizes Sam Darnold was the second highest redded passer.
There's a lot of positive vibes. By the way, the Viking schedule gets much tougher.
The Jets schedule gets much easier. So I do think right now if I had to make my two favorite
bets of week two, one of them is Jets at Tennessee minus four. I think the defense will play with
its hair on fire. It was completely embarrassed. Robert Sala confidently said that's not going to be
the problem. Will Levis is not going to succeed. Jets win comfortably in week two. Vikings,
meanwhile, schedule gets much more difficult in the next four to five weeks, probably pull back a bit.
So, J. Mack, there it is. Yesterday, as I saw you leaving the building, I saw a shadow cast over you,
a pall over you, and I wanted to lift you up because it's not how we want to start the season with
negativity. It's fine. It's an L. We took it. We're on to Tennessee. We're moving on, not a big
deal. I think you're overblowing
it a little bit. I think the Jets
didn't look great against a juggernaut, as Edelman said.
But can I go back to the Vikings
49ers real quick for a sec? Yeah. Didn't they play
last year? They did. Who won that game?
Wasn't that close?
Vikings won. I don't
see why we're discounting Minnesota
in this spot. No, I'm not. I tend
to think
Sean Pat and I said this. There's certain
times you can really coach your team hard.
I think Sala, the advantage to getting kind of humiliated in week one, especially when you do have talent.
Carolina got humiliated, they may not have the players.
They probably don't.
But New York has the players and got humiliated.
So professional athletes like to be coached.
And Robert Sulla is going to come in hard and he's going to come in really loud and really intense.
And I think New York, a lot of their best players have been in this league for four or five years.
Some are young, but C.J. Mosley, Aaron Rogers, Quinn and William.
These guys have been around the block, a Mike Williams guys, Tyron Smith.
They can be coached hard.
I think Robert's going to put it on pretty loud and intense and heavy this week,
and I think they'll respond.
And I think the one team in the league that won and had no business winning was Tennessee.
So the line should be six to seven.
It's four because they won.
If you watch the game and I watched every snap, Tennessee gave the game away.
I mean, Chicago had 64 yards passing.
Tennessee had a 17-0-0 lead.
They controlled the football game.
So Tennessee really lost but gets a W.
Jets with real talent are humiliated.
You mean the inverse.
Tennessee basically you think won, but they lost the game.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they won the game.
And so they probably feel much better about themselves.
And the betting market's like, you know, Tennessee.
Tennessee is potentially awful.
I would largely agree.
They're not Carolina bad.
but they've got major holes in the Will Levis stuff
with the coach coming out and saying,
yeah, we could have just punted on every first step.
I mean, when the coach says,
we would have been better off punting
than giving Will Levis the ball.
How does that play in the locker room?
When a coach says that, players hear that.
And Sala, hey, guys, you got pushed around
and you got bullied by the Niners.
How you feel about that?
Yeah, it's different.
Fired up.

If you're watching the latest season
of the Real Housewives of Atlanta,
you already know there's a lot to break down.
Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Pinky has financial issues.
I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like to be interesting.
On the podcast, Reality with the King,
I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows,
including the Real House Wise franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about.
As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it, I understand the game.
As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home,
they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app,

So I was just reading a little tweet from somebody inside the building, Michael Mulvahill,
who does all our stats and ratings.
He's a lot of information.
Big 10 ratings last week.
Viewing time was up 148%.
We kept telling you, I grew up with a PAC 12.
This Big Ten now with USC and.
Oregon, Washington, UCLA with Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State.
It's big time.
It's hard to turn the TV off.
And for years, I've called Iowa the fake ID of college football.
They'd win eight or nine games, argue they should be in a major bowl to the
playoff because they beat up on directional schools out of conference, maybe Purdue,
and then they'd go get shelled against the big boy.
But you can only have a fake ID for so long.
at some point you're 21 and can drink legally.
So it's time for a new fake ID of college football.
You know, somebody that is new on campus, talking a big game, little thirsty, and not of legal age, kind of a poser.
And I think it's Colorado.
Dion Sanders is the new fake ID of college football.
I'm sorry.
A lot of talk.
A lot of hat, no cattle.
I mean, at least Iowa could hold their liquor.
These guys are vomiting on themselves after a margarita.
It's bad.
They've lost seven straight games to FBS teams.
Worst run offense in America.
Can't defend the run, can't play defense tackle poorly.
I mean, at least Iowa wore a collared shirt and sort of played the part.
Maybe they can match up with Michigan.
Colorado can't even compete.
they have the worst rushing offense in college football, and nobody talks more trash.
A lot of stories about what they're playing over the loudspeakers.
I don't care about those, but it feels like they're one big campaign to get Shadur Sanders,
the Heisman or the number one pick.
It's just a timeshare sales pitch, and I'm over it.
And let's be honest, Iowa graduated college.
They got a good job at a local accounting firm.
They're doing fine with their life.
Colorado is a mess.
They're on academic probation, and they're bragging about skipping class on Wednesday.
The new fake ID of college football is Colorado.
All hat, no cattle.
Dion, though, says, we're just fine.
I feel like we got the right guys.
You may shake something up a little bit.
Phil Lodold is a wonderful offensive line coach.
Pat does a tremendous job in calling place as he did the first game.
so you just can't take a snapshot of one game and not understand the first game.
What we have won in front of the offense?
I ain't hear all these questions.
But I understand it comes with the territory.
When you lose, you're going to be ridicule.
You're going to be prosecuted and persecuted.
I'm good.
All right.
I am comfortable with a new fake idea of college football.
And I will say this.
Iowa fans may have been at patient at times and want bigger ball games, but they were humble.
Could Colorado scale back a little on the trash talk?
Just a little on the ad campaign?
Get through at least two margaritas before you throw up on yourself at Senior Froggies in Boulder.
J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Wow, Wednesday off to a fiery start, just lobbing grenades.
That was like a Molotov cocktail into the Colorado training room.
Holy cow.
All right, let's go to the Niners.
Took down the Jets on Monday without Christian McCaffrey.
Jordan Mason showed out, book 47 on the ground.
Well, you know, week two right around the corner,
short week for the Niners,
and Christian McCaffrey is a long shot to play.
According to Ian Rappaport,
here's Kyle Shanahan with the latest.
Definitely, I believe that if it was a playoff game,
he would have played.
You know, it's not just the calf.
It's the Keyles, and the Keylese's tendonitis,
and that stuff comes and goes.
and when it is acting up,
something's going to be very careful about.
Christian's very diligent about that stuff.
And if it was a playoff game,
you know, he made it very clear to me
that he believed he could go.
But when you hear that type of stuff,
and it's not a playoff game, and it's week one,
and especially when you're dealing with the lower extremities like that,
it was a tough decision,
but hearing all the words and stuff,
in the long run, it made it easy.
Yeah, I would not play him.
I wouldn't care if he didn't play until October,
20th. Just this kid behind him, this Jordan Mason, the Georgia Tech undrafted guy in that
offensive scheme, Shanahan's history, his dad's the same way. They made a lot of 1,000-yard
rushers off of middle and lower draft picks. Like, I wouldn't play McCaffrey. The other thing is,
you're trying to break in eventually all these new wide receivers. They have another young
tight end. I would get everybody else up to speed. So I pointed this out, I believe you were on
one of your many vacation days.
When Christian McCaffrey had his most touches ever with the Panthers,
he had 287 carries and a bunch of catches.
The next season he played three games because of injuries.
Well, what happened last season?
Christian McCaffrey, 272 rushes, a billion receptions.
And it's like already out of the gate, he's hurt.
Like, smaller running back, he's an awesome talent that's undeniable,
but you just cannot give him the ball that many times and expect his body to hold up.
I would rather he's ready for the opener in division against the Rams.
Something else to point out about this game.
You're always good at this.
Open with the Jets.
Division rival Rams.
That Vikings is a classic sandwich game where you think you're feeling pretty good about yourself.
Watch Minnesota play.
And by the way, Minnesota schedule is tough.
They can't take any weeks off.
They're looking up at everybody they play.
The Giants was their one breather.
So I think they're in, this is a time.
tough sled for the Niners, and I agree with you.
Years ago, and I remember reading this, I must have read this 10 years ago.
It was the White Sox won a World Series.
They had been 20 years ago.
1991, they won the World Series.
What year was it the White Sox won the World Series?
I remember reading an article, whatever year that was.
And I was reading an article about a decade ago, and they were talking about that
White Sox pitching staff, and they were talking, I'd never heard this before, but they
were talking about arm fatigue for teams that go into the playoff.
It was in 2005 that White Sox won.
Okay.
And then years later, somebody wrote an article about arm fatigue.
It may have been Verduci or somebody, one of the great baseball guys are a bust their only,
Tim Kirchin, whatever it is.
And they were writing about arm fatigue.
And they were talking about when you ask your staff to go in these high leverage pitching
situations, don't be shocked if they really struggle.
You're better served to, like, get them on the IR.
Don't worry about them until, like, June.
And I feel like McCaffreyian running backs, especially,
smaller running backs who initiate contact, there's an argument.
They're better served, not playing McCaffrey until October.
And just getting you out from a 17 game schedule to 13.
What if you just played him a little and he limited to like 15 carries?
It's very hard to play him a little.
I'll tell you why.
Because you give him the ball three times and he picks up nine yards to carry and you get addicted to Christian McCaffrey.
And then a dump ball goes for 25 yards.
Yeah.
I mean, it's just like saying, hey, I just want a little.
ice cream and you're sitting there at nine at night and you go in the fridge and you take a
bite, I'm going to put it away.
No, you're not.
You'll eat the pint.
That's tough.
McAfree's so great that when you get a little sample of him, you're going to use him. He's an automatic first down. And so, I think the smartest teams in this league,
If they had a playoff run additionally, bring them in slowly.
Let me ask about Seyquan Barkley.
Was he overused in the opener?
He had a lot of touches.
He did.
And it felt like they needed that game.
Now that was a, that game felt more than just a week one.
It was like, hey, these two teams could be battling for home field advantage in the playoffs,
you know, Eagles and Packers.
I don't think that's the case here with San Fran and the Vikings.
I think there's a pretty big gap between these two.
So I'm with Resting McCaffrey and then you unleash him against the Rams next week in a game.
you really want to win, right?
Yeah, yeah.
All right, next up is Tua and the Miami Dolphins.
They face the Bills Thursday night,
what should be a really good game.
However, Tua, he's had a rough go against the Bills in his career.
Eight starts, he's one in six and was injured in the other.
Tua knows there's one way to end the narrative
for the Dolphins against the Bills.
That's going to be what's written out there
until we do something about that.
That's going to be the narrative that we can't beat the Bills
and until we do beat them and we beat them consistently,
like none of that's going to change.
And we have an opportunity to do that this year.
We have an opportunity to do that this Thursday.
Yeah, you know.
Go ahead.
Hat backwards at the podium.
No, forget it.
No, okay.
Don't blame Tua because they can't beat the bills.
They can't stop Josh Allen.
That's also true.
But Tua's numbers are not good against the bills.
Here they are.
Well, again.
61% completions.
He's like a 73% guy.
He has not played well against him.
them, that's fair. But they've also had,
in his tenure in Miami, a very good
pass rush and one of the top defensive coaches.
You're not going to put up great numbers against
Sean McDermott in that pass rush.
Buffalo does two
things. Josh Allen and a pass rush.
Well, the opposite side of the coin is Josh Allen is
11 and 2 against Miami. No, no, he has owned them.
It is like Big Ben and the Browns.
He's owned them.
41 total touchdowns, 13 picks for Josh Allen.
Now, listen, he
put on a Superman show in the opener.
Can he do it again?
We're seeing a lot of professional money on the dolphins here.
No, I think you and I got last Thursday's game, right?
We both like Kansas City.
I like Miami.
I watched that game against Arizona, and my takeaway is, okay, at some point, this can't just be the Josh Allen offense.
And I don't mind that Stefan Diggs is gone because I like their tight ends and cooked the running back.
And they went and got the Florida State receiver, so that's interesting to me.
But that game felt like Josh, they were.
down like 173. Josh had to save them again at home against Arizona. The dolphins were down 173
at home or 17 0 177 something like that. But I Jacksonville to me has a lot of components to be a really
good team. We think Arizona's a fourth place team. Yeah. And Miami's got some injuries. I saw most
it officially ruled out for Thursday. Devin A. Chan, they're going to, he's not automatically going to play.
And he's really nice out of the backfield. Dude's fast. So.
I don't know. I got to be careful with Thursday night football.
Final story, let's go to college football.
Texas had a win in the big house over Michigan.
Saturday. I was way wrong on that.
Boy, you nailed that game.
Texas looked awesome.
They are now number two in the latest AP poll.
The Longhorns battle mighty UTSA this weekend.
And Sark doesn't want them to fall into the same trap as Notre Dame.
Human nature is human nature.
And so what did I do this morning?
I walked him through the Notre Dame scenario of them.
going into college station a week ago and winning that game and being anointed
top five team and in the college football playoff and a week later losing to
Northern Illinois and so I showed that clip of the field goal and I showed the
clip of Northern Illinois storm in the field this morning as a good reminder that
nothing we're entitled to nothing you know we're capable of anything we've got a
really good team but we're entitled to nothing we're going to earn everything we get
and we're going to have to earn the victory here Saturday night boy if you
watch that Texas Michigan game the
Two teams in this sport right now that feel different just look different.
Georgia and Texas, they look different.
There's a lot of teams that are better than I thought, USC, and there are teams that aren't maybe...
Ohio State hasn't played anymore.
Oregon, by the way, has been bad, right?
Like, USC's better than I thought Oregon's worse.
Ohio State will be fine.
But when you watch Texas, Steve Sarkeesian came on this show about a week ago, and he said something before the game.
He said, we have situations where our backups are as good as we can't tell the different.
between our ones and our twos.
And that was a little like Michigan last year,
where they had guys in the defensive front rotating in,
you're like, they're not going backwards at all.
I think Texas and Georgia are stacked teams.
I think Alabama's good.
They're not stacked.
I think Ohio State's pretty close to stacked.
But Texas looks different.
Their offensive line, it's bigger than pro lines.
Yeah, no, the Georgia game, October 19th.
I don't know where that is.
I'm looking at this guy.
I guess it's in Texas, says versus Georgia.
And that's the week after the Oklahoma game.
Oh, man, that schedule gets way tough
and they're in the middle.
Those two back to back.
Like, they should beat Oklahoma.
They'll be favored.
George is tough.
That'll be the game of the year, maybe in college football.
But they're going to roll over Oklahoma.
And if you notice, you see a lot of SEC opponents on the schedule,
and none of them are rank because the SEC's not that good this year, people.
I know SEC fans are panicking.
And they're like, oh, come on.
They're just not as deep as they normally are.
SEC's not a juggernaut.
Well, now that it's an NIL world, Ohio State's got a lot of money,
and Oregon's got money, and USC's high school recruiting.
They're going down to the South and pulling guys out because they're paying them.
And the transfer portal, too.
A lot of money out west.
If you're sitting on the third string on Georgia,
why would you do that when you go start for anyone else?
These SEC schools were in small towns where a car dealer's the richest guy in town.
We got Apple out here and Google.
Google out here and Meta out here.
Some of these, six of the...
Now, now, I will say this about the SEC.
It's still really, really the conference filled with the most NFL bodies.
Yes.
So we're all freaking out because USC beat LSU, but LSU is going to win 10 games.
Well, no, Notre Dame beat Texas A&M on the road.
Miami went into Florida and won.
Like, we've seen a bunch of surprises.
I mean, if you look at the top 25, it's still a bunch of SEC teams.
Obviously, they're going to get favoritism and they're undefeited.
You're going to blame the moderators?
No, I'm going to blame the dopey voters who every year is just, oh, they're the best team every year.
They've got the best players.
Well, they usually do.
SEC is the best conference.
Colin, okay, Michigan didn't beat Alabama in the playoff last year.
You know, everybody liked Alabama.
You can't sell me on the SEC.
They're down.
Yes, they're great at the top with Georgia.
That's undeniable.
I think they've got the best quarterbacks.
Jackson Dart at Ole Miss is excellent.
He's good.
Back at Georgia's great.
I think Nussmeyer at LSU is a good player.
No, he's no Quinn Ewers.
That's a guy I'll ride with.
I like his game.
You don't like the cut of his jib.
J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Line News.
You know, I got a sense.
That occasionally I'll sprinkle in a cocktail to my life.
Always, always with a focus on the big games, not on big game night.
There's two things I can't do late.
Eat ice cream and smoke a cigar.
I did both last night.
So I'm a little fuzzy today.
I'm not going to lie.
I'm a little fuzzy.
But you know what?
Third cup of Joe, I'm going to get through this thing.
You got the gum?
Whoops, you got the gum?
No, I chewed it all.
You're out of it.
I chewed all my gum, so I have to order new gum.
Boy, why's not in town and you're just letting it all hang out, huh?
I mean, goodness gracious.
I don't even put my drinks on coasters when she's out of town.

I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like to be interesting.

All right, he's the new guy at FS1.
Our friend Danny Parkins out of Chicago.
Breakfast ball in the morning, off to a great start.
Now, as a guy that has grown up in Chicago and suffered through a lot of lean years,
because all that MJ stuff, that wasn't on your clock.
You're a kid, right?
And now it's about the white socks and the bears and,
and, you know, the bulls who are officially tanking.
Here's my concern about the Bears.
I love Caleb Williams.
But in college last year, three times, in the preseason and in game one,
he's completing 50% of his throws, 55% of his throws around there.
And whereas Mahomes and Stafford, other great quarterbacks,
Josh Allen, can get a little loose because they're so gifted.
Cam Newton did this.
If you look at the guys that get loose,
Andy Reed brings Mahomes back in the fairway.
McVeigh brings Stafford back in the fairway.
Cam didn't have that guy in a defensive culture.
And I worry that as Caleb does what Caleb does with all this God-given talent,
he gets mechanically a little off.
He's missing receivers.
Is it a legitimate concern?
I know it's early.
Is that a concern?
Well, it couldn't be earlier, Colin.
It's been one game.
The preseason was 20 pass attempts, and there were four drops,
including one that was completed the Roma Dunesay,
where he stepped out the back line of the end zone.
So the preseason sample size was small.
This was only 29 pass attempts against the Titans.
But listen, undeniably, it was not good.
And I think to your point,
undeniably, Shane Waldron, the new offensive coordinator of the Bears,
he's not Sean McVeigh.
and he's not Andy Reid.
So I cannot put the offensive infrastructure of the Bears on Caleb Williams to say that he's going to be in a situation like those other greats were in it.
So I think all of that is fair.
It is one game.
But I'll be honest, you referenced growing up in Chicago, and I'm 37, I'll be 38 soon, but it'll be a matter if I was 57 or 77,
no Chicagoan, no Bears fan at any age ever has seen a great quarterback.
So we tend to be a patient bunch.
Like, we're not Philly.
We're not New York.
Justin Fields had his name chanted at Soldier Field in his last game.
Not his first game.
Not the first game of his last season.
The last game of his career, when it was very clear to anybody,
that they were going to get the number one pick,
and they were going to draft Caleb Williams,
and they were going to move on from Justin Fields.
So we've got some patience in us,
because if we've waited our entire lives for greatness at the position,
We can wait until, you know, week two of Caleb Williams' rookie year.
So now that you've moved your family to New York, you get an opportunity to listen to WFAN and read the New York papers,
and they're an aggressive, outspoken, loud lot.
And I said this morning, there are four or five things I take away from the Jets loss that are positive.
The Niners are a brutal team to open with.
Let's be honest, this offensive line was not terrible.
Bosa didn't get a sack, and Aaron doesn't open well.
He's a distracted, rich, single guy in his off-season's.
He hasn't been good in openers in like six or seven years.
Having digested some of the New York media, I'm sure you did over the last day,
what is the sense in New York Giants are toast, but what's the sense with the Jets this morning?
Well, they're concerned because it didn't look good,
and they were supposed to be great defensively.
It's one thing about Aaron Rogers, and okay, he hasn't played in 20 months,
and he's 40, and he's coming off of an Achilles,
and, like, it's reasonable to have some rust on the offensive side of the ball.
And yes, Kyle Shanahan makes a lot of people look real bad.
But Robert Salah was the defensive coordinator with Kyle Shanahan.
So if anyone should know how to stop that system or at least slow it down,
it should be Salah, and the Jets defense was just getting gashed over the middle in the passing game.
they are getting gashed on the outside with the running game.
So there's definite concern, and I certainly wouldn't say that I can speak for all Jets fans
just because I've been in New York for a little bit, but I would say this too.
This is one of the few teams in the NFL that it really is Super Bowl or bust.
Like Aaron Rogers, if he's healthy, he will be better than Zach Wilson last year.
But for how long you have this year with Aaron Rogers?
Maybe next year?
He's Mercurial at best, so he's clearly going to be a year-to-year,
opposition. So to me, it's like, okay, great. Maybe they will be better than last year and
they'll figure it out a little bit and they'll be a nine or a 10-win team. But the goal of this
entire exercise has not been to make the playoffs. It has been to win the Super Bowl. And I'll ask you,
that team that we saw Monday night, they look like a team that was more ready to make a Super Bowl
or miss the playoffs entirely. Yeah, I said offensively, when I watch Kansas City and Baltimore
on Thursday and the Packers and the Eagles the following day and the Lion's,
in the Rams, the Jets don't stack up offensively.
I mean, they're a twisted ankle from Brees Hall to being a really limited offense,
like a really limited offense.
I mean, you look at San Francisco, they don't play McCaffrey,
and they have seven offensive players, including left tackle Trent Williams.
I'm like, oh, those are, Joanne Jennings is their number three receiver,
and he was unguardable.
So I think what I think when I look at the Jets is the margins are very thin,
is that if they're healthy, it could be good.
But this is a long season.
Well, it's a sport of injuries,
and if they're healthy, they can be good.
Yeah, you can say that about a lot of teams,
and they are relying on guys who you cannot trust to be healthy.
Aaron Rogers had been pretty healthy throughout his career,
but he's a 40-year-old coming off in Achilles.
I don't think it's unreasonable to say that's concerning.
Tyron Smith, he's missed a lot of games.
Mike Williams.
It was Garrett Wilson and who else in the passing game.
He was just locked in on Garrett Wilson.
Good guy to be locked in on, but you'd like to have more help there.
Mike Williams, not a guy you can count on to play a lot of games.
So is this a Super Bowl caliber roster if they get MVP caliber quarterback play?
Of course it is.
But it's been a while since Aaron Rogers has been an MVP caliber player,
and we have no guarantees whatsoever that he's going to survive the season.
You know, a take, I only got a couple of minutes left.
A take on DAC is now the highest paid quarterback.
We know the last guy to Signs O is the highest paid quarterback.
I don't think I've ever heard your take on DAC.
Nick Wright and I feel the same way.
Great guy, good quarterback, overcompensated.
What are you on DAC?
Well, that may or may not be true, but it almost doesn't matter because of how the economics of the sport work.
Yes, the most recent guy gets the most money, but also it's binary.
You either have a quarterback or you don't.
The Falcons gave Kirk Cousins 100 million guaranteed at 35 coming off a ruptured Achilles
because they had Desmond Ritter last year.
Desmond Ritter's not on a team right now.
So all of a sudden they get a quarterback and they're like, hey, we can win this division.
We can win playoff games.
The Dolphins pay Tua.
They have no other choice.
The Packers pay Jordan Love.
They have no other choice.
So Dak Prescott, 31 years old, coming off of the best season of his career, runner up for the MVP,
Dallas had no choice.
The only way Dak Prescott wasn't going to be a cowboy was if Dak Prescott didn't
want to be a cowboy. So we waited for everybody else to sign those deals. And now his
AAV, average annual value, starts with a six. And he got one million more guaranteed than
Deshawn Watson. That wasn't an accident. It was because he had the leverage.
Danny Craig Carton, Mark Slareth, Breakfast Ball, brand new show, a couple of weeks old,
moved his family from Chicago, which we strongly encouraged to New York. Is it going okay so far?
It's going great. I'm here. I'm traveling back. The family will be out here soon. And I just,
I did it for the opportunity to change my life, change my family's life, and get to your level.
Did you say before the break that you order your gum?
That's the richest, rich guy thing I've ever heard.
Are you just never in a store?
You're never in an airport kiosk?
You're never at a gas station?
You order your gum?
What is that?
Neurogum.
It's a caffeine-infused gum, and it's, well, whatever it is.
It's odd.
You order your gum.
I got to get to your level, Colin.
That's why I'm here.
To get to your level, I'm ordering gum.
All right, breakfast ball, Danny Parkins.
Good seeing you, buddy.
You as well.
Joel Clatt joins us next hour.
Yeah.
I'm looking over the games this weekend.
What happens when the best bet is Thursday?
You think the best bet on the board is Miami against Buffalo?
I think there's three bets I look at this week.
I think Miami against Buffalo is my number one or two bet.
Houston hosting Chicago
and the Jets at the Titans.
So you like three favorites?
You know I don't love favorites, but last
year, the Joe's,
pros versus Joe's, sharps versus
marks, the marks and the Joe's.
I've never heard that one, that's funny.
No, the fans bet favorites.
On average, fans bet favorites.
It's why, because I have some buddies
who do this for a living, it's why I don't bet favorites.
I bet underdogs. But there's a reason you're
an underdog. Your quarterback's not good, and the league
is more quarterback-centric.
You're giving me Aaron Rogers against Will Levis.
C.J. Stroud against Caleb Williams.
What do you want me to do? I don't care what the line is.
Okay, so let's go Tampa Bay, Detroit.
We've got a minute here.
I'm just reading the injury report from the Bucks.
They're going to be down three defensive backs, including Winfield.
Their great safety against Amara St. Brown, James and Williams, Jared Gough.
They didn't look particularly sharp throwing the ball.
I think St. Brown had three catches.
They're going to torch this buck secondary.
So the line has gone from three to six.
seven.
That's a huge jump problem.
They played poorly in the second half and won,
and Sean Peyton Noah says,
that's the team you can coach hardest.
You win, but don't play particularly well.
And let's be honest,
the Lions didn't have the football in the second half.
Well, they went away from Montgomery
didn't have a carry in the fourth quarter.
I mean, Detroit's a power team.
I don't think they know they are yet.
It's like, guys, 40 carries a weekend.
They could run, Jared Goff,
play action pass.
Like, that team and that O line in those backs,
you could run the ball three to four.
a 40 to 17 type lions win?
Hour two, Joel Clatt next.
