Thanks for making us part of your day. Well, Robert Saul has been fired. Reportedly, he was blindsided. I don't know how you could be blindsided. You get blindsided if you get hit by a bus. You don't get blindsided if you get fired by the Jets, the Raiders, the Cleveland Browns. It's just you get hired to be fired. Now, if you're the Miami Heat, then we would be blindsided.

We got a knife in the back from Aaron Rogers. I don't know if that's blindsided or not. Well, give me seven or eight minutes to kind of sort through this. So Robert Sol this morning said he was blindsided, fired by the jet. And we warned you, if you'd be. if you go to London where Woody Johnson was the former ambassador to the UK

he's got all his boozy billionaire buddies in the stadium ex-jet Sam Darnold beat you something's gonna happen and it did this morning so in the moment for all you alphas out there it feels good yeah

it's like going to the batting cage when you're in a bad mood take a few whack somebody's got a for this. Congrats. You just fired the most competent coach on your staff. Nat Hackett is probably

the worst OC in the league. He's still there because Aaron make sure he's there. So this will be the fifth head coach, head coach, interim coach in 11 years. Does it sound like a well-run business?

If you owned a company, you're on your fifth CEO in 11 years, would you be a well-run company? For the record, if they beat the bills on Monday Night Football, that terrible Robert Sala coach, they would have been in first place. With way past his prime Aaron Rogers. So ask yourself, what is easily the best part of the Jets, the defense? The part he coaches. Robert Sala didn't whiff on a quarterback in the left tackle in the first round.

Forcing the organization to hand all the power to Aaron Rogers. Robert Sala didn't mishandle the Hassan Reddick mess. Again, I know it feels good. Jets, it felt good to beat the Patriots. It feels good to fire the coach. It always feels good for poorly run businesses to fire people, and that will solve it. And go ahead, Colin, he didn't get along with Aaron Rogers. Well, we told you that a couple of weeks ago, and you pushed back on your go green

Reddit boards when we told you they're not getting along, it's not rosy. So now suddenly you're an expert on the relationship between Robert Sala and Aaron Rogers. And I don't think they get along well. I don't think Robert Sala, a little bit too much ego, he just

couldn't keep things to himself. Remember when he said this is an inexcused absence at the podium during minicamp? Robert, keep it to yourself. Remember when he said, Aaron Rogers will not play a in the preseason. Aaron was mystified by that. Keep it to yourself. When he banged on Aaron

Rogers, the best cadence quarterback in the NFL probably my entire life. Aaron fired back. Coach, vanity. Keep it to yourself. We all know about offense, defense, special teams, the three phases of football. Here's the fourth. When you have an old, rich, prickly quarterback, monitor what you say at the podium. He wasn't very good at the podium. Belichick gets made fun of for saying on to Cincinnati, but Belichick and Brady never went to dinner in 20 years. But at the podium, they co-parented.

They never embarrassed each other. They always were on the same message. Sala and Aaron weren't. Well, Colin, Aaron's difficult to get along with you. I know. Ask Mike McCarthy, but that's the deal. You brought him in to save the franchise. Don't humiliate him. Don't embarrass him.

Yes, he can be sensitive. So the interim coach is Jeff Albrecht, who was the loud guy on hard knocks, former player. Kyle Shanahan tried to hire him at one point, kind of an alpha guy. He could win. I mean, interim coach is like substitute teachers. Everybody loves him. He could win.

I wouldn't doubt it. But in the end, you're on your fifth coach, head coach or interim coach, in 11 years. this is what you are as a franchise. If your company had the fifth CEO, would you think, oh, it is humming here? And I understand firing coaches. Andy Reid got fired in Philadelphia. Sometimes, as Pat Riley says, you need a new voice.

This is a team that is good at one thing, the one thing solid coaches, and they could be in first place by Monday night. Just think about that. This is not a team like what you're, watching in Carolina. This is not a team that's hopeless. The roster's pretty good. Sala had his side playing well. I mean, can you imagine if Hassan Reddick would have been in the building? How good this defense would have been? It's already good now. And here's the other thing.

You know, I've been talking about this for years is owners now are so rich. They didn't, I mean, used to be even 10 years ago. They weren't all billionaires. A guy would have a $700 million net worth. they would give a coach an extra year. But the owners now are all multi-billionaires. So firing a coach, firing a staff is a rounding air. They just don't care. But by Monday night, the Jets could be in first place. And so, I mean, if you want to know why Kansas City keeps winning,

it's all that institutional knowledge and that momentum and that culture that they don't constantly disrupt in their division. The Chargers had, oh, Anthony Lynn, Brandon Staley, Jim, bar, they're restarting the engine every couple years. How many coaches have the Raiders had since Andy Reid got there? Broncos are on their second or third. So, like, I am not a fan

of blowing everything up. I always ask the question, if you're going to fire a coach, this is why I've kind of supported Matt Iberfluse. Does the coach know his side of the ball? Salah is great with motivation and he's great with defense. So he's gone and maybe the alpha, you know,

the ex player, a tough guy, maybe it works. He's got kind of a Dan Campbell field to him. I got nothing against him. Kyle Shannon's a smart guy. He likes him. It may work. But this will not be a job that everybody signs up for. There's going to be potentially

Trevor Lawrence is going to need a coach. Maybe Dak will need a coach. Maybe Joe Burrell will need a coach. You're going to this mess? I'm going to move my wife, my daughter's cross-country to Woody Johnson. But again, hey, get your aluminum bat out, go to the batting cage. It feels

good today. Get those wax in. you are a franchise. Am I supposed to believe Woody Johnson didn't talk to Aaron Rogers? Really? Didn't give him a heads up? Really? I can't believe that. Because Woody Johnson in the off-season, all he talked about, we got to get the offense right.

Well, who runs the offense? Aaron Rogers? You didn't give him a heads up? You didn't say, Aaron, I'm really disappointed. I mean, it's Tuesday now. You got over 48 hours. Yeah, a lot of time. Aaron never got tipped on this?

I mean, go ask Mike McCarthy. Once Aaron goes on, you know, his darkness retreat, and I'm not talking about the official one in Oregon. When he turns dark, and we talk about this all the time, you're done as a coach. So, and I think over this past week, we showed it on the air. Aaron went dark during that game. he's doing the hand motion and Nat Hack and hurry up and get the plays in.

He turned on the staff. So, again, it makes you feel good to go to the batting cage, and it makes you feel good to pretend on your Reddit board that Aaron didn't have anything to do with it. Now you're what you're going to do. It's going to be like LeBron. They're going to go out now. Aaron's going to distance himself from this. This is what LeBron does.

Totally distance yourself. I had no idea. Remember, agents get in all this storybreakers in this business. They get their news from agents. And so, you know, you're going to find there's going to be a lot of positioning on this story. It caught Aaron by total surprise. I had no idea. And his friends will relay the message.

I have a hard time believing. Woody Johnson fires Robert Sala. The most competent coach on his staff, the one guy who's great at his job and didn't tip Aaron at all, I was told Aaron and Sala were buddies. I mean, if they're buddies, you're going to fire my best friend at Fox? You're not going to call and say, yeah, something. happened. I mean, I don't buy that. If you're telling somebody they're valuable and you know they're really close with a guy and the staff, you're not going to tip him off? I mean,

believe what you want to believe. Believe what you want to believe. But fifth coach, 11 years, you could be in first place by Monday night. All right, J. Mack, you're a jet fan. I, I, I'm not going to get in your way for a couple of minutes. You tell me what you feel right now? Well, I don't know. You just referenced LeBron James when LeBron James runs off coaches. Here's the difference. LeBron wins championships everywhere he goes. Aaron Rogers hasn't won anything in this league, except an MVP award and a bunch of postseason losses since he won the Super Bowl way back. TikTok didn't even exist when Aaron Rogers won a Super Bowl. That's how long it's been. Yet he should have all the power in New York, Colin? Like, this isn't about Robert Sala. We know that,

right? This isn't about Sala. Sala didn't lose the game in London to the Vikings. Aaron Rogers was awful, but he doesn't want any accountability, right? He's like, hey, hey, we lost. There's a losing franchise. Not my fault. To Aaron's credit, he acknowledged he was terrible. That's what's the irony here. It would be one thing if Aaron was great in London and Salah's defense got shredded.

No, no, no. Salah's defense was the first all year to completely flummox the Vikings offense. So Salah's defense, without Hassan Reddick, who should be there, with Soss Gardner getting hurt, with Quinn and Williams at one point getting banged up, completely shut down Justin Jefferson, completely shut down the Minnesota Vikings, who'll probably drop 45 this week. And Aaron was terrible. And Hackett keeps his job and Sala gets fired.

Well, this is what happens when you, what's the saying when you lay down with dogs, you get fleas? Woody Johnson was desperate for relevance. Do you know how the Browns were desperate? Hey, Deshawn Watson, we'll give you the fully guaranteed contract. Come on down. Hasn't worked out. Jets were desperate. Longest playoff drought in the NFL. Yeah.

Aaron, please. Let me get on the private jet. Aaron, please, we need you. Remember last week, I said the match are going into the playoffs. The Yankees are going to the playoffs. I said this last week. The Giants are not terrible. They're terrible. And the Knicks have their first championship level team in 20 years.

And I said this last week. In New York, it's a battle for the back page. So the Mets are, I mean, the way they win, you can't take your eyes off them. The Yankees are disappointing you, but they're the number one brand in town. Here comes the next season. And say what you want about the Giants is, Big Blue has all the trophies in that town. They have a lot of fans. They play in the same stadium.

And that went in Seattle. People are like, all right, they're getting all fired up. This is also about crazy Woody, impulsive Woody, not. getting attention. Yeah. Because they lose Monday night. The Jets once again have a great defense and embarrassing offense.

Remember how we talked about Aaron Rogers wanting to copy Tom Brady? Tom Brady leaves to go to Tampa and, you know, has some beef with Ariens and ends up winning the Super Bowl, brought his guys. Hey, Grunk, come out of retirement. Antonio Brown, come live in my house. It all worked out for Brady. Rogers tried to do the same thing.

Hey, Nat Hackett, come on, come on with me. We'll build something in New York. Hey, Lazard. Randle Cobb, remember that experiment? It's all been a disaster. Listen, I don't want to be too harsh here on Rogers, but at this stage in his career, is he a loser? He hasn't won games. He hasn't won anything since those MVP awards.

He's losing left and right with coaches, with players. Well, remember, MVP awards are very big in baseball. Nobody cares in the NFL. Nobody cares. It's all about winning on Sunday. This is not a league that romanticizes itself. Think about this. You can't listen to a baseball discussion in New York.

Somebody will call a show and bring up Mickey Mantle. When's the last time you listen to Sports Radio in America, and somebody brought up Hugh McElhaney, the running back? We don't even bring up Barry Sanders. So baseball, its history, its lore, is very much about the rearview mirror. Football's the windshield. What have you done Sunday? So ask, what is Robert Sala done as of this moment?

arguably the best defense in the league. Yeah. Shut down Minnesota. Best coach on the staff. And he's out. And again, it feels good when your team sucks. You can't fire the players. So it feels good for a fan.

It's that whole thing. I've got to release all this anger and tension. Everybody in New York, WFAN today will be, yeah, yeah. You just lost the best coach on your staff. Now, is he a great head coach? certainly that's debatable. I think there was too much vanity. I mean, he's a great-looking guy.

He's got good energy. He's kind of cool. It's New York. He probably walks into restaurants in New York. And, you know, he's a great-looking guy. I get it. And I thought he was really very weak at the podium. Again, if he said this stuff in, I mean, if he said this stuff in Carolina or Seattle,

it just wouldn't make, it wouldn't make the news. But if you, if Aaron Rogers calls you out in Green Bay, Dallas, New York, San Francisco, go, big brands, big cities, that's a whole different ballgame. So that's why when the Jets hire these young coaches, Adam Gays, who was peculiar or Robert Sala, you got the vanity and kind of the alpha stuff. There is something to be said. I mean, Sean McVeigh is great at this, the master of talking and not saying a ton. Derek Jeter, the master, Eli Manning, the master.

I mean, literally, Eli Manning and Derek Jeter are the best I've ever seen. They talk a lot and never say anything in New York. They never throw a teammate under the bus. We know Jeter and Adrod had their issues. Never, ever a problem. Belichick Brady didn't get along. Didn't go to dinner in 20 years. They never threw each under the bus.

The messaging was always the same. I always had this theory about Brady. He did this Monday morning AM radio hit in Boston. Obviously, he didn't need the money. It was Brady starting the messaging with Belichick for the week. Here's the message for the week. That's what Brady did that. Big Ben did this for years in Pittsburgh,

where you start the message for the week. So Brady sometimes was furious with Belichick. He wasn't being respected. We saw that at the very end on the documentary, but the messaging was good. Salon-era's messaging was terrible. It was terrible. It's like, guys, sit down for 10 minutes every Tuesday and Thursday

and talk and say, where are we on the same? Just call it the same page. Have a little thing. Bring a PR guy in. What's the same page? You say this, I'll say that. It takes 10 minutes. That was part of his undoing.

Michael Irvin yesterday nailed it when he said, I didn't understand how the quarterback and the coach were going up to hug after that big moment. And Rogers was like, settle down, like keeping at arms. Like the way Irvin talked about that, we should have seen this was coming. Well, when that happened, remember that video we probably have in the back? When that video happened, I defended Aaron on this. I said, dude, it's the second quarter, chill out. And that, like the podium stuff with Sala is the thing I think you can criticize Sala on,

is that he was sometimes he was more like buddy than coach. That's the one thing I will defend Aaron on. at the podium, dude, you're the grown-up in the room. Do not throw Aaron under a bus. He's prickly. That's who he is. We've all, you know, listen, if you take over a company and you've got a student or you got an employee that's a little prickly, but they're important, you just have to know

that going in. Sala knew going in. Aaron had a history. I'm not going to blame Aaron for that. Aaron is being authentic to who Aaron is. Go read the book by Ian O'Connor. This is who Aaron is. And he now runs the franchise.

He's a quarterback, and the best player on your team are one of the top four or five. you got to do it better. So Sala, that's where Sala to me gets criticism. It's not on the coaching. That's not what it is. It's really on his inability as a young, good-looking guy with a lot of testosterone to sometimes take one for the team. Act like a grown-up. That, I think, it's fair to criticize him.

But can he coach? Kyle Shanahan loved him. Okay, that defense is for real. Nobody slows down the Vikings. And they shut him down with Soss Gardner on the point. So don't tell me he can't coach. Yeah, he'll be a defensive coordinator somewhere in this league. Tomorrow.

It's not going to happen now, but both Mike Vrable and Bill Belichick are available. Vrable would be my choice. He could deal with some of the Aaron Rogers drama. He's a tough guy. I know Mike. Totally respect Mike. Vrable would be my choice for the New York Jets. It's not going to happen now.

They're going to go with an interim guy who interim coaches are substitute teachers. Everybody loves them. I'm a Vrable guy. And with average quarterback play, he became a number one seed. He's smart, respected. He will get Aaron's respect. They need to get the quarterback of the future. But you'll have Aaron for, like, next year and maybe another year.

And, you know, I mean, who knows how that goes. But that would be my number one choice. My number two choice would be Belichick, as long as Bill gets no say in personnel. Bill butcher the last six drafts for the Patriots. his GM at the time up there left went to Houston and they've been wizards in the draft and that's because Bill would not let his GM in New England clearly have the final say and I was told that three or four years ago that in mid-January Bill would kind of say okay I'll take it from here so Belichick the coach I love I think Vrable has a good eye for personnel

and I think he's a really good coach I'm sure he could work with Joe Douglas by the way I don't think Joe Douglas is a terrible general manager, but he whiffed on a left tackle, Hassan Redick, and a quarterback. Those are three big whiffs. I think he's very capable because I like the Jets roster. I think they have the best corner duo, an all-pro linebacker, Quinnon Williams. They got players. I even like the Penn State offensive tackle.

He's not quite there yet, but I think he's talented. I like the roster. So Vrabel would be my guy, J-Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. We're going to have a ton on the Jets, obviously, today. We're waiting for stuff to trickle out, but like some of this stuff that he didn't even get to address the team.

Jordan Chultz and Pete Shrager, guys are reporting stuff, but it's still trickling out. So we'll get back to the Jets. But let's start here with the Niners, Colin. 49ers, no strangers to slow starts, right? So they were 5 and 0 last year. But before that, they were 4 and 4 going into the bye week. And then in 2021, they started 3 and 5. All three years, Sanfran still made the NFC championship game.

Kyle Shanahan is not banking on that, saying I've seen teams start 0 and 4 and get there before. So there's lots of things that go into it. But I think every year's different. We've got to write our own story and it has nothing to do with the other years. Niners have a huge game. And this is probably the biggest Thursday night game of the season since the opener, right? Chiefs Ravens. Niners, Seahawks, Niners favored by three and a half.

I don't know, Colin. I think the Niners are the side here, but a lot of underlying issues with San Francisco right now. I think the Niners are the side as well. Seahawks played so poorly against the Giants, but the Giants deserve credit because they dominated the line of scrimmage. So it's easy to say, well, the Seahawks played poorly. No, the Giants made the Seahawks played poorly. If you watch that game, the score is not reflective of what I saw.

I saw Daniel Jones in an offense running a ball and dominating the trenches. So I think San Francisco wins, but they do have problems. And once again, if you take Christian McCaffrey, the magic in this office, offense, you can have everything else. Trent Williams left tackle, Christian McCaffrey. We're not even a third of the way through the season. the Niners probably can turn it around, but I don't know who the best team in the NFC is right now, and honestly, I keep coming back to your Washington Commanders. I'm not even joking after five games.

But if I see more out of Lawrence, I think I could still take him over Caleb. I mean, we like Caleb. I'm not saying I don't like Trevor Lawrence.

I think Caleb is a spectacular talent who for four years is inexpensive and I got no injury history. You got to consider that. They can't just be like the way he throws a ball. What are you doing to my salary cap? Are you available on Sunday? I'll take Caleb. My final story is Devante Adams remains a raider despite all of the trade rumors.

Best corner duo in the league. A couple of capable running backs. All pro linebacker. I like the roster a lot. I think they need more pieces on the perimeter, but I like the roster. So is it a good job? I don't think it's a great job. Maybe it's an okay job because the roster is good.

But I get not my GM, impulsive owner, and a very prickly quarterback who's thrown a couple of coaches, say what you want under a bus. Ask Mike McCarthy and Sala. When you're escorting Sala out of the building and he's blindsided, you don't think Aaron could tip him off? Aaron, this was not Woody Johnson just, hey, surprise, don't buy it. Now, that's how it will be played by Aaron and all the handlers in the media. Here's how all the storybreakers work. They work with all the agents, and this is going to be very LeBron, where it's going to be, hey, I don't know what happened, man.

It came out of the blue. Nonsense. But here's the thing. The downside of the Jets is it's a great potential year for job openings. Philly, Jacksonville, Dallas, Chicago, Sincy could all have new coaches. Joe Burrow, Dack, Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence, could all have, Jalen Hertz, could all need a coach. So last year, there was only one great job opening. Chargers.

That's why Harbaugh took it. You've got a left tackle, which they're hard to find. You get one great one a year out of the draft, and you had a quarterback. That is hard to find. And you had SoFi Stadium, great market. Like pro athletes, like it in L.A. That one great job. This year you could have six.

Caleb, Dak, Burrow, Hertz, Trevor Lawrence, and there'll be a surprise firing. So this is just one of those years. And it doesn't happen very often. I mean, when Matt LaFleur got the job with Aaron Rogers, you're like, that's an unbelievable job opening. Justin Herbert and a left tackle, that's an unbelievable job opening. That's why the Spanos's who never spent big money on a coach said, here's 15 million or whatever they paid him. And I talked to Dean Spanos about this. Like, you know, they hired a sister.

No, no, no, no, no. go get Herbert a coach. So Aaron's past his prime. That's not me being negative. He's past his prime. And he's not the easiest guy. And he likes Hackett. So I would make the argument,

if you just replace Hackett today with this interim coach, that could be it. You could literally be a playoff team. But they fired the wrong coat. I think Hackett's a huge part of the issues. Garrett Wilson. a young receiver called him out on a podcast last week. I don't even think he,

I don't even think it was intentional. He's just like our offense is simple. It doesn't, we don't do anything. What? I mean, it wasn't mean-spirited. It was just sort of a kid lacking self-awareness is like, yeah, we don't do anything.

It's kind of simple. Oh, my God. So I think if you just replaced Hackett with this interim coach, be like, or was Sala. I think that would have solved a lot. I mean, you watch the Jets on TV. Very little motion. I mean, their run blocking is, it's brutal.

And it's not because they don't have talent on the offensive line. The young Penn State kid, Elijah Vera Tucker, when he's healthy. They have two capable tackle. It's not only they don't have, they got players up front. The run blocking ranks like 27th in the league. It's terrible. That's the O.C. All right, I want to talk about the Chiefs.

Everybody in the league except the Chiefs. Even the good teams. it's circumstantial. Is this guy playing? What's the weather? Is that guy playing? Not with the Chiefs. Star running back out.

Number one receiver out. Missed a field goal. Fluky interception in the end zone. It doesn't matter. Over 400 yards. Blow out the Saints. They're missing their top two weapons. I mean, outside of Travis Kelsey, Pacheco and Rishi.

Missing him. It doesn't matter. I mean, Mahomes didn't even play great again. That doesn't matter. Everybody else is circumstantial. I mean, Juju Smith-Schuster's career's done. New England disappears. Oh, no, last night he had seven catches, 130 yards.

Kareem Hunt, I think he's out of the league. Oh, no, he's not. 102 yards in touchdown. They just make it work. They just make everything work. Jujo Smith-Schuster, productive in Kansas City, disappears in New England, goes back to Kansas City. You're like, wow, he's a go-to receiver last night.

between Andy Reed and Mahomes, it's to make everything work. It doesn't mean. Circumstances don't matter. And all these other teams in the NFL that use excuses. Well, Joe Burroughs got a terrible defense. Mahomes got to the AFC championship against Tom Brady, first year as a starter with the 31st defense. It was just as bad as this.

And they got to the AFC championship. Well, Josh Allen lost Stefan Dix. He didn't have a slot receiver from Boise State. Oh, really, that's why he was. seven for 30 at one point. Well, I mean, the Eagles are missing a couple receivers. I don't want to hear it. Rishi Rice, Isaiah Pacheco, field goal missed,

wacky interception in the end zone. It doesn't matter. They pulverize the Saints. Everybody in this league is playing for second place. I mean, think about this. Here's what's terrifying. Just look this up. Kansas City's 5-0.

Mahomes is 19th in pass-a-rating 16-8. these six picks. If they were only good at quarterback, what would they be? And Spaggs, his defenses historically always get better late. Like Spaggs, the defense, he's such a great mentor and teacher. His defense has get better over time. So, I mean, I'm watching them last night, I'm like, every excuse in the world, we're missing this, right, you hear it, Miami, well, I mean, two is not available. It's the worst offense in the league with that. Nick Wright next hour, heard hierarchy. I got my top 10 teams. I thought last night it felt very warriors for the chiefs.

It felt like, oh, it's Monday. It's a standalone game. Taylor Swift's in the crowd. Let's Katie, Steph, Clay, Drayman. Let's flex. Back-to-back champion, going for a third. Let's flex. How many little, how many laterals did they do?

and he has two playoff wins in the last six years. Is Aaron Rogers even good? Like, I don't know that you'd want this job because I don't know if Rogers is good anymore. The roster is really exceptional. Yeah, but you're dealing with your quarterback. No, what I'm saying? The roster, don't confuse really good roster with a really good job. Jacksonville or the Jets.
