Nobody takes as much vacation as Colin Cowher does. I'm joined today by Alex Curry.

Alex, great to see you. Great to see you. Colin deserves it, though. You can't give him that. much slack. You told me last time we did this. You're like, man, I'm exhausted after three hours. How do you do this for three hours? Let the man take some time. He is a machine. I don't know how he does it. College, Goward, one and only. But Alex, last time you were here was your birthday. I'm sure that celebration was great. What do you got this weekend? You're celebrating anything special.

Well, it's Father's Day. Come on, your dad. You should know that, right? Thanks for reminding me. Uh-huh. Yeah. One of my sisters just had her first baby, So we'll be celebrating not only like my dad's father's day, my husband's dad's father's day, and then a new father and the family. Yeah, it's a great... Happy early Father's Day to you. Thank you very much. I am my dad. Great sports weekend.

Holy. Lots of awesome stuff. Yeah. Tonight, well. Okay, we'll get to that in a bit. You're not feeling to talk about that. We're going to start with the big news. Obviously, the huge news in the NFL.

Trevor Lawrence, the awesome quarterback. Can I call him underrated? Underrated quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He signed a massive. new deal. I see five years, $275 million. The numbers are staggering. 200 million guaranteed for signing the contract. He got $37.5 million, so we know Trevor Lawrence will spend the weekend just swimming in bathtubs full of money. It's awesome to be Trevor Lawrence, right? And you guys know how this goes. Half the audience out there, oh, they overpaid Trevor Lawrence.

Jay Mack, come on. This guy hasn't done anything. Three years in the league, he has one playoff win? He's got the most turnovers of any quarterback in the league since he was drafted. And I was texting with one of the producers last night about one of my big issues right now around the NFL is how we talk about quarterbacks. And, you know, we're in an engagement economy, people. That's what we are right now. You need to stay engaged. I need you watching 10 minutes of every chunk. And online, everybody, you got to put out Instagramable, shareable content that can keep you scrolling. And one of the most popular things to do now, is these blind quarterback resumes.

Yes, we do them on the show. Yes, I hate them. I'm allowed to. Where we cherry pick stats to fit our narrative. And folks, there's one out there that is a whopper. Jay, have you seen the one on Trevor Lawrence versus Daniel Jones? It's crazy. They're like the same guy.

And I just, I feel like it's lowest common denominator nonsense. We do this a lot online. I know the smart people can see through it and see, oh, whoa, pro football focus shows that, damn, Trevor Lawrence is already one of the best deep ball passers in the NFL over the last three years? Well, that's why they got him, Christian Kirk. They looked at the analytics and said, oh, well, Trevor Lawrence can chuck it deep. He's got great deep ball accuracy, great window placement. Yeah, he's had turnovers. You know what happens? Peyton Manning struggled early in his career. John Elway, go look up his numbers. Early quarterback struggle. This is a young kid in his

first three years. And truthfully, if you want to toss out his rookie year where Urban Meyer was a and gone before Christmas? Well, that's okay. I'll understand that. And then you dig in deeper into the numbers, and nobody wants to dig in, right? We're in like a bit of a lazy time here in America for sports fans. Just give me the obvious numbers.

Nobody wants to dig deep, drill down, spend a few minutes to, like, get smarter. Because, oh, would you look at that? Trevor Lawrence, in year two, midway through the season, something clicked. And he finishes on a hot street. Five straight wins. get to the playoffs. They win a game, the great comeback against the Chargers, and they lose to

the Chiefs, no harm in that, okay? What happened in year three? Trevor Lawrence comes out of the gate on fire, eight and three to start the season. So look at that, end of year two, first half of year three. And look at this sample size, ladies and gentlemen. 13 and three record, awesome numbers. Now I know the touchdown passes you'd like to see them higher. Some of that is, hey, you take what the defense gives you. He's got a good running back in Travis E.T.N. But that is a full year sample of Lawrence. I know the three-year body of work is not great, and I know there's people yelling at the TV and radio right now. Jay, hey, hey, hey, I take C.J. Stroud over Trevor Lawrence. Okay. So you have one good year of C.J. Stroud. Yes, he was phenomenal. Outstanding rookie year. Hit the ground running. Looks like he's got a new offensive coordinator who was outstanding last year.

Head coach. Everything was great. Jay, Jordan Love. Yes, an eight game sample size of Jordan Love was outstanding. very praiseworthy stuff from Jordan Love. And you guys want to act like, oh, well, I'd take those guys over Trevor Lawrence. Folks, Trevor Lawrence has shown us over a longer period of time when he was dominant in college, when he was very good for a good year. And then he had the high ankle sprained on Monday night football last year against the Niners. I think he had a concussion. And the numbers went off a cliff and the team fell out of contention.

The wheels came off. Folks, the Jags did the smart thing here early. I know we're going to show the graphic here of what quarterbacks are making an average amount per year. And now Trevor Lawrence is tied with Joe Burrow at $55 million a year. And yes, does that look quote unquote bad? Sure. But this is where the numbers are a little fuzzy. Lawrence's new deal doesn't kick in until 2026.

So he's not making $55 million this year. He's not making $55 million next year. I opened our morning meeting this morning with, well, this is great. They signed him early. The money doesn't kick in until 2026. The Jags Super Bowl window, it's still there wide open. And the great producer, Ryan Music, looks at me and laughs. Now, he's a big borough guy.

He's laughing at me, Super Bowl window. Come on. Can they get to the second round of the playoffs? And I get that. But the deal that they have for Lawrence doesn't kick in for two more years. They do have a runway here. And I know the division got better where the Jacksonville Jaguars, with Trevor Lawrence should be in contention in a tough, rugged AFC.

I love everything about this deal. I think Lawrence, I don't know if he's going to live up to number one billing and win multiple Super Bowls, but he's a damn good quarterback, and the Jags did a darn good thing. Now I'm going to turn my attention to a topic that you guys are probably going to hate. I have in my notes here this morning as I was in the dressing room, the next story is a doozy. And you guys aren't going to like this, but it's about Caitlin Clark and something that happened yesterday. And no, it does not involve Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever winning against whoever they played. I honestly don't know the opponent.

She did not have a great game. She had like seven points, seven turnovers. Doesn't matter, Fever won, they're on track, maybe get in the playoffs. But anytime Caitlin Clark does not have a great game, it gives fodder for the internet dopes to say, hey, see, she's not Olympic worthy. She had seven points. Like, just stop. But what the real interesting story with Caitlin Clark is, is what happened before

the game. So she met with the media, okay? And the media has now expanded from, let's not talk about chartered flights and promotion for the league and Indiana fever. We've kind of been through that. Let's not talk about the Olympics. And a reporter tried to pin Caitlin Clark down on a difficult question of the culture wars currently happening online. Yeah, we're going there. So Caitlin Clark was asked about people using her name to promote agendas. And here's what she said. Like I've said, like basketball is my job. Like everything on the outside, I can control that. So I'm not going to spend time thinking about that.

You know, people can talk about what they want to talk about. It's great conversations about, you know, whatever it is. But I think for myself, like, you know, I'm just here to play basketball. I'm here to have fun. I'm trying to help our team win. Oh, yeah. That's a tough one for Caitlin Clark. Now, she was asked about it again later.

And she had an answer, but she wasn't thrilled with how people are using her name. And listen, I think Caitlin Clark's handling this great. Okay? We're talking about a 22-year-old rookie. Hey, Caitlin Clark, thanks for getting us the chartered flights. That's outstanding. Thanks for selling out arenas coast to coast and shining a huge spotlight on this league. Thanks for promoting women's basketball. And oh, by the way, thanks for dealing with a target on your back every night you come out. Great. We know you're struggling to, you know, solve defenses in the WNBA that are all geared to stop you, but do you think you could solve racism in America? Because that's what it feels like they're asking, Caitlin Clark.

Hey, can you solve these culture wars? They're gross and disgusting. And I would say largely on this show, we have not weighted into that. We're kind of mostly focusing on Caitlin Clark and some of the basketball aspects and, you know, the awesome stuff she's done for the league. And yeah, we'll talk about the cheap shots and the fouls and the threes. But we're not wading into this culture war stuff. And there's just really no win, okay?

Surely you guys remember Michael Jordan. He was asked about it. Once his star rose and he was winning chips, they're asking Michael Jordan about his political, hey, are you going to stump for this candidate in North Carolina? You know where you're from? And of course, Michael Jordan allegedly uttered the great line, Republicans buy sneakers too. But he was not a 22-year-old rookie, okay? Tiger Woods. You guys remember when Tiger Woods was ascending?

Oh, yeah. One side starts propping up Tiger Woods. The other side hates Tiger Woods because that's what we've done now in a number. America. You either are with us or you're against us. There's no in the middle. I'm in the middle. I don't really care. I don't want to be on your side or your side. I'll be on my side. I'll be fine. But Tiger didn't take the bait. Tom Brady, if you guys famously remember, once he's got the dynasty rolling and they see a certain red hat in his locker, Tom, what's going on here? And Brady was like, kind of, damn it, I screwed up. How did I get in his? And he navigated the waters,

definitely stayed right down the middle. Okay. And Patrick Mahomes, this officer, this officer, season had his dopy kicker make all these comments at a commencement address. And, you know, everybody's like, Pat, Pat, you got to weigh in. We need your take. Pat, where are you? Are you going to defend us? You know, Taylor Swift's on our side. Pat, are you going to come to the?

Patrick Mahomes is like, I don't talk to that guy. Offseason comes? I don't talk to him. That was basically it. Patrick Wilhomes avoided it. So you're telling me, these veterans, these guys in their late 20s, whether it was Jordan, Tiger, Brady. I think Brady was in his 30s when it happened, the hat.

and Mahomes in his late 20s. They're avoiding the topic, but we now expect Caitlin Clark to weigh in and save and solve racism in America and misogyny and all that other stuff. You think a 22-year-old rookie, Caitlin Clark's out here to hoop. She's trying to get better. She's trying to solve the defenses that are all bottling her up and have one focus. I think it was one of the stars in the league, Kelsey Plum, was like, listen, we're playing Caitlin Crunk.

We just want to chop the head off and everything else is fine. Everyone's geared to stop Caitlin Clark. She's trying to worry about hoops, and now she's getting asked about being propped up in disgusting online culture wars. Are you kidding me? I should chide the reporter and call them out for even going here, but that's where we are now, right? The Olympics is yesterday's news. I had a great Olympic take. I used on my podcast this week.

I was going to rejigger it and kind of fire this week. And now we're on from the Olympics to now culture battles, which have been fought by a lot of male athletes. And I don't know, guys. I was going through looking for a female athlete who had to deal with this so early in her career. I can't find one. This is uncharted territory, which is, I guess, how Caitlin Clark likes it. But I do applaud her answer. And listen, she doesn't need my advice.

I mean, she's got sneaker deals. She's got a lot going on. I would say, stay in that middle. That's where the smart people are. You guys have heard the great saying, listen, if your thoughts and political insights all align with your neighbors, you're not a clear thinker. if they all align with all of your friends. You don't disagree with anything.

You're not a clear thinker. You need to be an independent thinker. And I think, I believe, Caitlin Clark is probably in that group where she's not going to get sucked into this nonsense. And I don't know, Alex. I'm a little worried for Caitlin Clark. This is a big burden to bear

for a 22-year-old rookie. But can we just acknowledge how well she has handled the weight of the world in every possibility? I mean, she went straight from March Madness right into the WMBA draft, right into the WMBA, to then dealing with this criticism that I don't think anybody could have anticipated. We knew that she was going to alter and change the game for women's basketball,

and we've seen that as we have. We are talking about her every single day. Every week, it's a new topic of Caitlin Clark in what she has not only done for the game or what she hasn't done or what she's done. getting taken away. But as you imagine, she's 22 years old and a rookie. She hasn't even had a moment to breathe from college to the pros to just getting hounded with everything. And as you've heard her say, she's handling it with so much grace that I'm just here to play. I respect all the other players in this league. Everybody in this league, no matter how you look, no matter what you

do deserves the same amount of respect. And that's the, that's the route she's taking and that's the route she should stick to unless something significant happens where you need to take a stand on it for Caitlin Clark. But with everything she has been through just in these couple of months, it's you have to applaud how well she's handled it. And I know some people are going to hit me up. I will not be looking at my phone during the broadcast. I got to be locked in folks. But a lot of people, Jason, when Kevin Durant said he just wanted to hoop, Jay, hey, you were like he's not a leader. Well, no, no, no, no, that's different. Caitlin Clark is a leader of her team. Kevin Doreen didn't want to be lead.

He absconded. Sorry, KD, to come after you again. Anyways, coming up next, everyone has been freaking out about Aaron Rogers' unexcused absence from my jets. I kind of need to take a deep breath. We're going to dive into that next year on the herd.

Back here on the herd, I feel like every time I'm in for Colin Cowherd, the New York Jets pop up.

Folks, it's out by design. The staff knows I'm a big Jets guy and I'm kind of passionate for the team. I just can't even with Aaron Rogers anymore. Have you ever had a neighbor who was just abysmal? And you just can't deal with him to the point where if you walk out your door

to pick up the garbage and that guy walks out to pick up his garbage, you'll just wait another like two minutes, scroll on your phone, just to avoid the guy. And I feel like that's happening with Aaron Rogers and the Jets and me right now. I'm just, I'm at the point. I'm at my breaking point, honestly.

Everywhere I go, I got a buddy who lives up the street, and he's a Packers fan. He's like, how's your boy Aaron Rogers doing? You know, pointing and laughing. And you guys know, I used to work at a celebrity magazine where it was one of these glossies and we would get all this news. It was a great job. You know, you had to, like, interview Jessica Alba. It was a great job.

But PR 101 was a massive thing at this job. Anytime they knew there was trouble ahead, they would find a second story to kind of change the narrative quickly. We're seeing Elon Musk. This is happening with him right now. He's in court all week. And then all of a sudden, hey, guess what? Your likes are private now on Twitter or or whatever they call it. It's like you just want to change the narrative. Well, the Jets bungled, botched this Aaron Rogers disaster this week so badly. And I think a lot of it, unfortunately, falls on Robert Sala, who comes out and calls it like an unexcused absence. When he could have said like 74 other things to describe why Rogers isn't there this week. So obviously, you know, we have

the sound. We're going to start here. Back in January, Aaron Rogers wanted to keep it football. Just the football. And here he is back in January calling out the organization. Everything that we do has to have a purpose too. When you step in the building, there's intentionality with everything that you do. And it's not a half the time thing. It's not a sometimes thing. It's not a most of the time thing. It's an every time thing. If you want to be a winning organization, then to put yourself in position to win championships and be competitive, Everything that you do matters. And the that has nothing to do with winning needs to get out of the building.

Okay. So Aaron Rogers has been around all offseason. He's been at everything, you know. He hasn't missed anything. And now here we go, minicamp mandatory. Rogers is a no-show because he has something that is still not out there. I joke that maybe it was another darkness retreat. All the Rogers fans online, no, he said he's not doing that again.

so maybe he's at some a political event I don't know where he is I find it hard to believe Cowherd said he's vacationing somewhere who knows Robert Sala at the podium this week sounded awful explaining Roger's absence

Tyrod said he had only found out that morning is there any reason I wasn't communicated to him before no it's a one-in-one conversation it's not something the team needed to know what Aaron and I are on the exact same page there's no issue between Aaron or his teammates for that matter. So like I said, we addressed it yesterday. It's more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside.

Not a problem. I mean, Tyrod Taylor, the backup just showed up and was like, hey, you're starting today, bro. Aaron's out. Okay. Sure, I'll take first team reps. But this just goes into the dysfunction of the franchise. I mean, folks, you guys know, I was born in New York. I'm a Jets fan.

I lived through the lean years, one win, quarterback shuffle, the Sam Darnold train wreck, seeing ghosts, Adam Gaze. I could go on down the list. It's been ugly. Longest drought without a playoff appearance, my Jets. I don't know where this ends. I don't. Maybe Aaron Rogers shows up and it's kumbaya, no big deal.

But here's the thing. Sala said, no teammates have issues. Well, Soss Gardner, the best player on the defense, or Quinn Williams, whatever. Sauce Gardner came out and he's angry and he put out a tweet or an X or whatever it's called, you know, are you guys really making a big deal out of this? Because he missed two days of practice? Well, sauce, my guy, I'm a Sauce Gardner fan. You know, I know I said you could maybe trade him for a poo-poo platter of massive picks.

I digress. Sauce, Aaron Rogers has said, let's keep it football in the building. And now when it's football time, Aaron's not the same. Aaron's not in the building. I don't know how you can chalk this up as nothing. It's got to be something. Even if it's a couple-day brush fire, it's the latest in a string of PR disasters

for Robert Sala and the Jets. And I'm hopeful that Rogers shows up. It's kumbaya. The schedule is easy. The offensive line holds up. And next thing you know, it's 12 and 5. And the Jets are in the playoffs, winning the division.

That is in play. And I will be betting the Jets to win the division. You can scoff if you. If you want, the division's theirs, assuming Rogers can stay healthy and upright, and, you know, locked in on football. Let's go to Alex Curry with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

Jaymec, I can't help but feel sorry for you. I like, but are you surprised it's so on brand for everything that's happened with Aaron Rogers over the last three seasons? You know what I love, Alex? What? What? What? What is? What is?

That's not what he is, though. That's a front he puts on for, you know, whatever phase in life he's in at that point. Where do we find that? Do they sell that at any stores? Can I find that in the draft? Just good vibe quarterback. I don't know. Good luck.

Good luck. Hard to find. All right. Well, let's talk about the best team in the NFL because the Chiefs are coming off back-to-back Super Bowl wins. And now look to become the first team to ever complete a three-peat. Now, Casey unveiled their rings last night distributing more than 400 rings among the players and staff at the event. Now, the trio of Reed, Mahomes, and Kelsey now have three rings in the last five seasons. Now, I don't know if you took like a close look at these rings, but they have 529 diamonds,

38 rubies, 14.8 carrots worth of gems, which is insane. The 28 of the diamonds represent holding all opponents to under 28 points in the playoffs. And then the top, it opens up with the game winning. Tom and Jerry play design inside on the top part, and it's engraved with everything there. Then all the bottom, I don't know if we're going to see it in this video of it being opened, but the bottom has like a field with player pawns on it and then says back to back on the side with the overtime 25. 22 win.

These rings are insane. They're becoming like big trophies. But it's here you go. Okay. So look, there's the field on the bottom. And then the top part, there's the play. design engraved on it. That's pretty awesome.

Absolutely insane. Enjoy it, right? I mean, yeah. The best part, we heard, I think you may have talked about it yesterday, Travis Kelsey shared that, you know, he's not retiring anytime soon. But he hasn't been 100% the last couple of seasons. He's 35 years old. I think what this comes down to is like, as long as you have Andy Reed, Patrick Mahomes,

Travis Kelsey, as we all learned last season, you cannot count out this team. You can't count out this team, but can they three-peak? No, they will not. I mean, you don't want them to three-pies. So you're speaking from the heart. There's no chance. I mean, they've won three of the last five seasons. They've won the Super Bowl, and when they didn't win it, it was what Tom Brady and then Joe

Burrow in the AFC championship game. But they have a tough opening to the season. They're opening against the Ravens, the Bengals. They have an early week-six-by-week. We heard Travis Kelsey come out and explain why that's tough when you're starting. when you're so banged up later in the season, you kind of want it a little later. Again, the last year, we thought,

oh, man, they're not at full strength. They're struggling. There's no way they can do it. This is a down year for Patrick Mahomes, and then he goes and wins the Super Bowl. Yeah, three out of their final four on the road, no left tackle. They're not repeating.

And it's fine. Chiefs fans, yes, I don't reply to these bozos on the internet. But yeah, I see all Chiefs fans clip it off. You said we weren't winning last. Last year, Jason. Yep. Guys, I don't, congrats. Enjoy it.

It came with receipts. You know that nothing lasts forever, Alex. But what does a financial advisor say? Past performance is not an indicator of future success. They've won some Super Bowls. Wonderful. Enjoy it. Lap it up.

Three in the last five? Oh, this is a bitter. This is a bitter non-chiefs fan. They're their best team in the league. That's undeniable. Uh-huh. I mean, everyone bet against them. Are you, are you thinking they winning in the Super Bowl?

Everyone bet against them last playoffs. I picked against them. Yeah. Every game except the Super Bowl, and I learned my lesson. I kept thinking. I was like, ah, no, Josh Allen can do it. Ah, no, the Ravens can do it. Lamar Jackson.

No, they couldn't. No one has proven that they can do it yet. When someone proves that they can take down Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid. Joe Burrow took him down in Arrowhead. Tampa Bay Bucks beat him in the Super Bowl. He hasn't been healthy sense. Let's see. Did the Jets beat him last year?

They lost a close one. I forget. It was close. No, no, Alex. I'll put you on the spot. Are the Chiefs going back to back? Back to back, yes or no. Yeah, Cici doesn't want to go on the dark. I'm ready for it. I'm saying they're not doing it. What do they? Pooper get off the fence? Is that what it is? Come on. You got to make a call.

I mean, there's a three. Yes or no. There's a couple different sayings there, Jay Mack. Come on. Come on. Come on. Alex. All right. No, we're moving on. We're sticking in the AFC West because the Chargers will have their eyes on taking down the Chiefs after hiring Jim Harbaugh this offseason. Now Harbaugh will be the fourth head coach that Justin Herber has. has played under in his four seasons, and he spoke recently about playing with Harbaugh. It's been an honor to play for him so far to share that quarterback room with him. You know, he's definitely a very intelligent, committed and competitive guy. He truly wants to win whatever he's playing, whether it's the golf tournament, whether it's football quarterback competitions,

he fully expects to win. So whether we're pulling sleds, he expects to be the fastest or to pull it the furthest. And when we're carrying those bedballs, he's wanting to go the furthest. wants to go the fastest and to have a guy like that set the stage, set the standard, you know, for these undrafted guys, for these rookies to see that, you know, I think they follow in his footsteps. You can already feel a shift with this Chargers team and it starts with the respect, right? You can hear that from Justin Herbert talking about Harbaugh, and then we've heard Harbaugh talking about Justin Herbert. I mean, that is a huge piece of a championship team.

Does everyone believe in what you're doing? Can you buy in and can you absolutely absolutely trust everyone that you're around. Now, I mean, there aren't huge high expectations coming off of what, five and 12 last season. There's definitely going to be a big turnaround. But you also have to remember, this is a new-looking offense. They don't have Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Echler anymore. And again, Justin Herbert has had four head coaches in four seasons. So again, you're learning just how to work with someone again, a new everything that's going down that way. So how much of a jump can they make?

That's kind of the question of how far can they go? I definitely think they can, they're going to have a winning season. They have to have a winning season, but you're still in a tough division with the Chiefs, with the Broncos, with the Raiders. So it's not, again, it's not an easy path, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel when you have a guy like Harbaugh driving the ship. Yeah, I've gone back and forth. Will they immediately

massively improve from five to say nine wins? That's a big jump. The big jump. Or is it going to take a year or two while they get weapons in place? Yeah. You look at the offensive skill position, guys.

They're not great. Well, that's a big deal. Like, Herbert's not only having a new coach, but a whole new kind of like, who am I going to? They got a new offensive coordinator. Yeah, a new system, new guys. Like, everything is going to be new.

But that's also not new for Justin Herbert. Like, he's probably one of the. guys, it's like, okay, here we go again. I mean, listen, I think Herbert can wallpaper over some of the ugly stuff on that offense, and Harbaal will certainly help a lot just from his locker room presence. I mean, they had Anthony Lynn, Brandon Staley, two guys who, you know, better as coordinators than as head coaches clearly. And we had now heard the tension that was there between these guys and Justin Herbert, right?

We found that out later on. and chemistry is everything. Do you respect someone that you're working with? When you do, you're going to get a better product out on the field. Yeah. That kind of goes in like any walk of life, right? If you respect someone that you're working with, you're going to do a better job with what you're doing. Agreed, yeah.

Yeah. All right. Well, let's switch gears to the game tonight because the Mavs are on the brink of elimination tonight, trailing 3-0 to the Celtics. We've got a rough fourth quarter in game three fouling out with about four minutes left in the game, including his final two fouls in a 26-second span. Now, despite his complaints about the refs, Luca will look to just focus on winning.

We talk about how we come back from 20 points in a four-quarter in the finals. We were having fun. We're defending. We were running. Our pace was great and just taking good shots. I just really want to win. You know, sometimes I don't show you the right way. but at the end of the day I really want to win

so I got to do a better job showing a different way his frustration got the better of him in game three and when you are the leader of the team when you are basically making everything happen for your team

you have to learn to control your emotions in a moment like that they didn't have Luca their best player on the court for the last four minutes of the game and lost by seven points I know you do have to remind yourself he is dealing with a knee and a back injury so you have to you have to imagine that that frustration is something that's also playing into everything here and the fact that he is doing everything for the Mavs and we did see Kyrie step up a little better but his guys are not leveling up to where he's at he is carrying this team through these finals right now and obviously it's not you can't just have one they've lost they've lost the first three games it's not going to work that way I did bet against him in game three.

I bet he's under for points and luckily he fouled out. But what sucks for him is he's not adjusting to how the Celtics are defending it. No. Because last round, Minnesota was like, we're just going to play Lucas straight up. And Luca's cooking in the middle of the lane and step back threes. That's not happening against Boston because of the length. Tatum and Brown are great defenders. Holiday's great.

And he's driving, waiting for the double to come to kick it out. and there's nobody to pass to. So he's forcing bad shots. He had 27 points on 27 shots, Alex. It's not efficient. And I didn't like the complaining. If you look at that video of him when he takes the charge or tried to draw the charge,

he looked at the bench and says, you better effing challenge that. Like yelling, cursing at your bench from four feet away? It's getting to him. Come on. It's getting to him. And this is where great athletes become superstars and iconic. You have to learn to control your emotion.

You want to use. that frustration in the right way on the court, right? Not towards the refs to get fouled out and to kind of have that reputation as someone who's complaining all the time. You have to learn to control your emotions when you are the top player on your team, when you are the leader of anything. There's just so many examples of, like, even the Celtics when they were in the finals a couple years ago against the Warriors, I mean, Jalen Brown just turnover machine in the fourth quarter. Tatum couldn't make a shot. You go back to LeBron with the heat. I know it was his second time in the finals, but he just kind of melted down.

He wouldn't take shots against Dallas. J.J. Barreya locking him up. Yeah. This happens. Let's not over react. Lucas, still, for my money, the best play in the league, I would take him over Yokic. I just, he's at a rough series. It happens. He's, what, 24, 25? I think

it's going to be okay. I just, I just hope for NBA fans, maybe they can sneak a win tonight so we can at least get a game five, but I mean, Boston is manhandling. Yeah, they are absolutely controlling the maps. I know you have a busy social life, but let me ask you, it's Friday night, it's the start of the summer.

Yeah. And there's an NBA finals game on when the series is 3-0. It's not, this isn't like stay at home, I got to watch this, do not disturb, I'm not doing that. Like, it's Friday night. Like this is on my phone, I'll just check it. It feels over to me. You know? This is stuff.

I mean, I'm watching it because I have my Fox Sports Radio Show, Fox Sports, Saturday tomorrow where I'm going to be talking about it. But there hasn't been much buzz, but I think where they also really messed up, there was 10 days in between the finals and the championship series. And that just, you're going to lose any kind of audience when you like just, you drop off like that for almost two weeks. And you can see it with the players too.

It's just, it's a little different that that drive and that hype isn't right there to just keep it going. And fans are feeling that too. I know this is too hot. of a take to go long on, but this is just the facts. The Indiana Pacers played Boston better than Dallas has. That's a fact. They were in position to win three of the four games, Alex, in the fourth quarter.

They had like an above 90% win probability. Yeah. They're better on the wings. They just simply match up better with Boston. Now, they don't have better players than Dallas, but Dallas's players don't match Boston's. It's just a bad, they haven't scored 100 points yet in the series. Indiana was torching this Boston defense.

Without Porzingis. It's bad. This is Boston series. It's just, are they going to win it tonight, or are they going to win it in game five? And I do wonder, like, is Boston so dominant and built so well that we're going to see teams adjust their strategy? We'll talk about it later in the show. Going forward, like, hey, Rudy Gobert. Maybe instead of Carlante Towns trade, you just get rid of Gobert.

I know he was a defensive player of the year, but it's like, let's just do the five out with Carl Anthony Townsend's at Center and finally. another wing and I'm sorry centers but Alex this is crazy I looked at the shot chart yeah the Celtics took six shots that were not threes or in the paint that's it six mid-range shots that's unheard of yeah this is

the new basketball so I think Boston's got something special and they're winning Luca and they're doing it good luck but they they were the best team in the regular season yeah and they're proven it here in finals they won the east by 14 games we forget that Alex Curry with the news well that's the news And thanks for stopping by.

Listen, I can prattle on about Aaron Rogers all I want, missing two days of many cases. But why don't we bring in a Super Bowl champ who's been in mini camps and knows what it means when somebody's absent? Mark Schlerath joins the herd. Mark, happy Father's Day weekend to you. Let's start with Aaron Rogers.

A lot of the media members make it a big deal out of him not being there. You've been at all the minicams during your career. I don't know. What does it mean when your quarterback, your leader just is a no-show? Well, I mean, I don't think that's ever a good look. and depending upon what Aaron Rogers had planned, what his excuse was, how he worked through it with the team,

let's face it, all the chips have been pushing in the middle. Aaron Rogers is everything to the New York Jets. They are banking on Aaron Rogers being healthy throughout the season. Look at the beginning of the year. They've got six, I think, primetime games early in the season. It's all about Aaron Rogers and his ability. Now, if you went, if Aaron Rogers addressed the Jets and say, man, I've got this thing. I cannot miss.

You know, it's been on the books for a year, didn't have the minicap schedule, sorry. I'm going to go do it. I think if that's the case, then I don't think it's that big a deal. And they know all their hopes of being a champion. All their hopes are saddled on Aaron Rogers. And you look at it last year, as good as that defense was,

and they were exceptional last year. When Aaron Rogers went down, their season was over. They know that. And so as long as they're okay internally with it, and I think the players are okay with it because Aaron does a great job of building relationships with his guys. He does a great job of leading his guys. I just don't know what the circumstances were in regards to, you know,

what was addressed and why he's missing this time. All right. One more on Rogers real quick. But in all your time, Washington, Denver, just being in the league, can you ever recall a quarterback having so many, shall we say, outside interest. This isn't like a quarterback who likes to go fishing or hunting. This is a guy who was up for being a vice

presidential candidate. I don't know Mark, it just strikes me as a little odd and different, maybe just because we've never seen it before. But I don't know, John Elway was not this kind of guy. Your quarterback's in Washington. John Elway had seven car dealerships why he was playing. He was managing car dealerships

why he was playing. So, I mean, he had things. It just wasn't the social media aspect of it. It's one of those things now we're more aware of some of the other interests. But I guarantee you this, sitting down with Aaron Rogers and having meetings with Aaron Rogers before you call a Packers game, there's nobody more dialed into the game plan. There's nobody more dialed into what defenses are trying to do to him.

There's nobody who's more engaged in football during the football season than Aaron Rogers is. So, I mean, I understand he's got some quirkiness to him. I understand he's super intelligent. I understand he's got other interests. But I guarantee you this, when he is ready to, to play when they are in the season when he is preparing for that that's what his focus solely is on so i don't i just don't have a lot of a lot of concern for a guy who's done it the level that he's done at for you know into his he's what 40 years old now um he if he's healthy the jets have a

great chance of winning that division if he is not healthy they have no chance of winning that division yeah well said uh all right let's let's move to Trevor lawrence Five years, 275 mil, a lot of guaranteed money. You know, again, you don't want to judge the online takes, but people don't think Trevor Lawrence has earned this. They're like, well, CJ Stroud must be worth more. Jordan Love should get more money. Mark, just tell the people, Trevor, you're not getting paid on what you did.

It's what you can be, right? Well, yeah, you're getting paid for what you've done to this point. And then obviously, you know, you get into a position where this is not a quarterback desperate league. It's a quarterback deprived league. And so if you've got one that you think passes what I like to call, you know, this is a Joel cladism, the confetti test,

well then you're going to have to make a decision at some point on paying that guy. And so they feel in Jacksonville that this is a guy that can take them to the promised land, that can win them a championship. I guess the difference between a really good quarterback and elite level quarterback is

the elite level quarterbacks tend to cover wards, right? They're like compound W. Like, they just absolutely cover the warts of your football team. And you're going to have warts on your football team when you pay a guy a large percentage of your salary cap. So can he overcome the deficiencies on your team to lead you to the promised land? Right now, I would say Trevor Lawrence has proven to be a good quarterback. But is he a war cover? No.

And they're banking on the progression that he will continue to get better and better and better. and he'll be able to cover those warts. But at this point, I look at them defensively. I think they're really a talented football team. But will he be able to cover whatever offensive warts they have? That remains to be seen. But that's the market, right? I mean, I understand you haven't won playoff games.

You haven't competed for a division, for a conference championship. You haven't gone to the Super Bowl. I understand the complaints there, but that's the market. That's what everybody's looking for. and sometimes you're going to sign a guy just because there's nobody else out there. I don't think that's in the same categories like Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones feels to me like I call it an EOR contract on my podcast, right? Like, oh no, we got to sign our quarterback.

There's nobody else to sign. You know, I mean, that's the EOR contract. I don't think Trevor Lawrence fits in that category of we've just got to do this because there's nobody else. We've got nowhere else to go. Yeah. All right, we could wrap up with the Patriot Way. A lot is being made in New England. We're not going to do things the way Belichick did him. You know, we're going to bring in this wrapper to throw passes in the offseason. That's cool and fun. And look at this. I don't know, Mark, Patriot Way kind of worked for two decades.

You know, the rigidity, the militaristic attitude of Belichick kind of sort of worked. I don't know, your thoughts on the Patriots. Well, it worked because you had guys within that organization that allowed it to work. I mean, Brady could sit in a team meeting and get yelled at by Bill Belichick. Like, I could find a, you know, I could find a quarterback from Foxborough High School could do what you're doing. You know, you could chew him out. He had the Teddy Bruskees of the world. He had guys that he relied on to be able to take the brunt of that criticism during the course of a team meeting.

And then all the young guys had to fall in line. Like, if you're going to shout out Tom Brady, if you're going to cuss him out, then I've got to be able to take that as well. when you start losing those guys, you know, you don't have that prevailing attitude of, you know, everybody's got to be, you know, going to fall in line. So I would say that that's probably more the reason that you're moving off that militaristic way because a lot of the players of today aren't going to handle that well because you don't have those guys sitting in there taking it like Tom Brady and Teddy Bruske and some of the other great players that play for Bill Belichick in the organization.
