Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:35 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Heard. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go. Once again, Breaking News live in Los Angeles. It's the herd wherever you may be,
Starting point is 00:02:42 and however you may be listening. IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. We have been very fortunate. On a bit of a role lately with Breaking News, we have it again today. Joy Taylor, it is our lucky month, I should say. March has been. Best marks in my history of my broadcasting career. There's never been a march like this. I think it's safe to say that now. I hate being that person that's like, this is the craziest time ever. Recy bias.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Yes, but it is. It's been insane. And I think that it's because there's a lot of pressure on everyone to level up. You can't just sit around with what you got. You've got to make big moves. So here is the latest Tyreek Hill, superstar, field tilter in the NFL. Fastest player in the league.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Kansas City wants to keep him. Kansas City's made an offer and Tyreek Hills probably leaving. Jets and the Dolphins reportedly are in the lead to get Tyreek Hill. Again, Kansas City wants him, but, you know, in the NFL, you've got to have some value proposition here. You can't pay everybody top of the market. Devonte Adams reset the market when he left Green Bay and went to the race. and they don't want to pay them Devonte Adams money.
Starting point is 00:04:02 And they got a lot of money invested in Travis Kelsey and a lot of money invested in Patrick Mahomes. So I've said this before, be it Dax contract, Aaron's contract, or Mahomes contract. You can kick that stuff down the road. But eventually things get really, really tight. And you can't have multiple players. If your quarterback's top three pay in the league, you can't have multiple players, top three playing the league.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Eventually got to move off them, right? That's why Cowboys moved off to Mari Cooper. That's why the Cowboys are moving off people. So my first takeaway is there's no way in the world if I'm Tyreek Hill, if I get a good contract, I'm leaving Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. No way in the world. Matt Stafford just took less money. Why? Because Matt Stafford said I get the value of McVeigh.
Starting point is 00:04:48 I get the value of L.A. I get the value of this great offense. I get the value of winning. I get the value of the culture. I get the value of my GM. You're not going to find a Patrick Mahomes in. New York and Miami. Miami's been trying to replace Dan Marino for 30 years. You think two is the answer? Two is not the answer. You're going to have a new quarterback in one year.
Starting point is 00:05:09 You may have a new coach in two years. You think Zach Wilson is Joe Namath? Listen, you got to be careful about chasing money. I don't care what business you're in. It's almost always a bad decision. Kansas City will find another talented receiver because college football gives the NFL 20 to 20. a year. College football gives the NFL about one great quarterback a year, and he will never get a coach as good as Andy Reed. He probably will never get a GM as good as Brett Veach. He may never get a family as good as the Hunt family, and he's not going to get Patrick Holmes. So if you have to be the highest paid lawyer, quarterback, whatever, good luck. Broadcaster, you're not going to be happy. As long as you get a good contract, you can make it up.
Starting point is 00:05:57 showing up in Super Bowls. So it's Kansas City wants him back. But again, all I read is, well, it's a lot of guaranteed money. It helps the cap. Aaron Rogers is still a 13.5% cap hit. Matt Stafford didn't need to make Aaron money. And he's only a 6.7% cap hit, meaning Rams will have a much better team around their quarterback.
Starting point is 00:06:22 So both parties to me lose here. I mean, Kansas City's not as good without type. Tyreke Hill. He's a game changer that won't be as good. They'll still be good. They won't be as good. They'll find somebody. It's another rich receiving draft. They'll probably get a first round pick for him. I would I would demand a first round pick. They want two first round picks, probably maybe a first and a fourth, but you'll get a first round pick. And Kansas City will still be really good. There is no, no proof that Tyreek Hill by the end of next year won't be a fast guy and a bad team. I don't think Robert Sala's going to work. I'm not sure Zach Wilson's going to work. I don't know if the new coach in Miami works. I know Tua long term isn't going to work. So if you just want to, if you've got to be the highest paid guy or highest paid person in any field,
Starting point is 00:07:17 you're going to have to pay a price. And it's probably you're going to lose some stability. Tyree Kill is going to lose the quarterback, the coach, the GM, the stability, the best hide-end in football, who you have to. to bracket. Good luck. Now, I will say this for Patrick Mahomes. Tom Brady won three Super Bowls as Julian Edelman as his number one receiver. The only criticism I've ever had a Patrick Mahomes is he's the trust fund kid of the NFL.
Starting point is 00:07:47 He got a Mercedes at 16 years old in a condo on the beach at 18. I mean, seriously, he inherited a top 5 GM, a top two coach, a top old line, a top tight end, Tyreek Hill, a creative game planner, and a decent defense. And when he got there, a bad division.
Starting point is 00:08:06 When he got there, it was bad. Not bad anymore. So, all right, let's see it now. Because the great quarterbacks, it is not a smooth ride. Even Tom Brady,
Starting point is 00:08:18 he had 10 years. He didn't have the defense. Then he got Randy Moss, then he lost him. Aaron Rogers has only had one great defense. Peyton Manning only had one or two great defenses. in Indianapolis. By the time he got great defenses in Denver,
Starting point is 00:08:32 he was falling apart physically. Eli Manning had a great coach, then he had a bunch of bad coaches. Like, it doesn't, you don't get Patrick Mahalm's career. It just doesn't happen. Right? Like Magic Johnson, of all the great NBA players,
Starting point is 00:08:48 and Magic's great. Magic's as, you know, Magic, LeBron, and Michael are the three best non-centers I've ever seen. But Magic inherited Kareem Abdul-Jabbar a legendary coach, the best GM in the league, the best brand, and I think Jamal Wilkes and Norm Nixon. I mean, magic would have been great. But Michael Jordan, you know, inherited Orlando Woolridge
Starting point is 00:09:11 and Quentin Daly and a coach that got fired. You know, Michael had to get Pippin years later. And then he got Phil Jackson after Doug Collins. And that's Michael Jordan. Go ask LeBron James as great as he is his first seven years in Cleveland, pulling Larry Hughes and, you know, up and down the court. Okay, the way Patrick Mahomes got the Magic Johnson landing, and both are great. But you know, Magic loses a coach.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Magic Kareem gets older. Things change. It's never a perfect ride, even for the all-time grades. So now, Patrick, that division is insane now. You know who's happy today? The Chargers, the Broncos, and the Raiders, because nobody can guard Tyreek Hill. And that division, those GMs and those coaches, every day they look up and somebody else comes to the AFC and has Sean Watson's in the AFC and Matt Ryan's in the AFC. It's like, can we get one of these guys out of our division?
Starting point is 00:10:08 One of these guys out of the AFC. So both people lose here. Tyreeks not going to be as good. He's going to be a fast guy and a bad team. And Kansas City is not going to be as dynamic. They are no longer this morning if Tyreeks gone, they are not the most talented team in their division. They're not. He's a field tilter.
Starting point is 00:10:25 He changes everything. You have to change all your coverage. They're doing jet sweeps with him. They're doing bubble screens with him. There's not a lot of him on the market. But he wants to be like Devante Adams money. We all make choices. I think people who chase money, I've said this for 25 years on the air.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And for most of it, I've said this. Chase great management. It's not saying you should take a lousy contract. Don't just chase money. Any field. You'll eventually be unhappy. Jets, no stability. Jets head coach, defensive.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Dolphins, instability, ownership. By the way, bad old line in Miami, like terrible O'Line in Miami. Even with yesterday's acquisition, Armsteads always hurt. That means Tua, who's not mobile. You're not going to get extended plays in Miami. Three step drops, get it to him. You watch. You're not going to get the offensive line in Kansas City or the quarterback who can
Starting point is 00:11:26 throw the deep ball like Mahomes. you're not going to have four and five seconds to get open. They're not going to be as clever probably as Kansas City. So you just forget for a deep receiver, you know what's really important? A quarterback that throws a great deep ball, an offensive line that allows the quarterback to sit in the pocket for five seconds. Miami's got a terrible O' line. I hope Kansas City and Tyreek Hill for Nick Wright's sake make up. That is crazy.
Starting point is 00:12:00 This one, speaking of crazy, this is crazy. this is a weird story. The Steelers are willing to go get Baker Mayfield. There is one small condition. They want him for free. So the Steelers have said, according to sources, if the Browns pay Baker's salary, they'll take Baker Mayfield. I don't like the move. And here's why. Even for free. There are certain jobs in America or a big personality doesn't help you and backup quarterback. And I would argue quarterback's not one of them. Big personality, Cam.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Controversial personality. Cap. A toxic personality, Baker. Those guys can't be backups. So if you're bringing Baker Mayfield in, he's got to be a starter. He's not a backup personality. Like Cam Newton's not a backup personality. If you're going to go, Tim Tebow, by the way, just too much noise.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Tebow's a starter? No. Or he's not on your roster. Or he's an H-back. But big personalities or toxic personality or con. You want your backup. You know who you want your backup to be? Jacoby Brissette.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Case Keenham. Colt McCoy. If Colt McCoy puts on a baseball cap and sunglasses and walks through a mall, nobody knows who he is. You want it to be Tyrod Taylor. agreeable, coachable, understated, that's a backup quarterback. So if you're bringing in Baker, you're bringing in a starter. And then, and I'll say this, ideally, you'd want better than Trubisky or Baker is a starter.
Starting point is 00:13:45 But there's two things that Trubisky has that Baker doesn't. Likeability and mobility. And that's why I think he's a better fit. I mean, I'll give you an example of the toxicity with Baker. Did you see this headline yesterday on Twitter from Aaron Wilson? Sources. Baker Mayfield and the Panthers have mutual disinterest in working together. I've never even seen that before.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Basically, Baker and his people call this reporter and said, yeah, tell the Panthers, we don't want them either. Oh, brother. Can you just fall on the sword once? A report came out, Panthers don't want Baker. Baker's got to get his people to say, we don't like you here. It's just his brand. He's just toxic.
Starting point is 00:14:27 So, and Baker and Mitch Trebisky, if you look at their numbers and I put them on the screen, it's the same guy. They both enter dysfunctional organizations. Trubisky is a more winning quarterback, is a more accurate quarterback. Their TD interception ratios are about the same, not great. Passer ratings virtually identical. The difference is likability and mobility. I like Trubisky, and I think he fits the culture of Pittsburgh better than Baker.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Um, T.J. Hushman Sata said this earlier in the week. Baker's got to get quiet. He's too noisy. Not saying that Baker can't play, but it's the extracurricular that comes with it. He's going to have to quiet down. He's going to have to humble himself. I'm sure he's been humbled. You want to go to the coast. They don't want you. Now it's just a place of, where can he, where can he land? But what would I give up? Honestly, fifth, six-round pick. That's it.
Starting point is 00:15:27 All right, Tyree, Kill, and the Chiefs, that relationship could be ending Jets, Dolphins, the landing spot, and the Steelers will take Baker if he's free. There's probably a lot of things in life I'd take if they were free. I don't wear watches. Give me one for free. I'll probably take it. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:15:50 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,
Starting point is 00:16:12 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skisks of a win. hits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
Starting point is 00:16:33 And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment. And the next, we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right what you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:17:13 And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you're not. But just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct.
Starting point is 00:17:56 So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast. Learn the Hardway with me, your host. and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field
Starting point is 00:18:29 and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose.
Starting point is 00:19:12 On my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free, our heart radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Big breaking news. The Jets and Dolphins have trades in place to take Tyreek Hill from the Chiefs, the fastest player, and one of the more dynamic players in the NFL from the Chiefs to the Jets or Dolphins. Okay, the best place to do go is stay with Kansas City. Best thing for Tyreek Hill stay in Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Coach, quarterback, culture, stay in Kansas City. Second place is Miami. No state tax. offensive coach Jalen Waddle, excellent receiver on the other side. They can't bracket you on every play. Third best place to go is the Jets. Defensive coach. I'm not into the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I mean, let's be honest about it. Young quarterback in the division with, you know, a couple great defensive coaches. Sean McDermott and Bill Belichick is just not easy. I think the Jets are a mess. So Jets are one of the easiest fourth place finish picks outside of Atlanta in the entire NFL.
Starting point is 00:20:17 And I don't think Tyreek Hill. Listen, Tyreek, let me plead with you. The NFL has a history of really fast guys on bad teams. It's called the last 15 years of the Raiders with Al Davis. You'll just be a fast guy on a bad team. You're never going to get a quarterback as good as Patrick Mahomes. You are never going to get a play designer as good as Andy Reid. you're never going to get a fan base that loves you like Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Miami's transient. They barely like sports. New York to Yankee Town and a giant town. Kansas City loves you. The GM's going to give you great pieces around you. You can't, according to reports, he's torn on the decision. It's not that difficult. Kansas City is easily the best choice.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Miami's a weak second. Jets should not be in the discussion. As somebody who doesn't manage your money, I'll just say this. Don't chase it. It's not like Kansas City's making you a lousy offer. I mean, Green Bay deserves credit. They gave Devante Adams a great offer. They didn't lowball him.
Starting point is 00:21:31 He just, he wanted to go home. All right. But this is not going home. Devonte Adams, I sort of get. Green Bay, players don't, you know, not all players love it. And he wanted to go home. Vegas is fun for a young guy. A lot more fun than Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:21:51 This, you're just going for money. You're not going to a better culture, better team, better fit. You're just going for money. Bad decision. Bad, bad, bad. I mean, great for the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Great for Denver. Russell's probably texting him. Man, you got to go chase the money in Miami. You got to go to Miami. I think this, he'll be a fast guy on a bad team. I've been watching this thing for 40 years. You just disappear. Nobody talks about the fastest guy in the league
Starting point is 00:22:22 unless he's on a really good team. He's just a fast guy in a bad club. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, Matt Ryan will be 37 years old this fall when he takes the field as a cult for the first time.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Grandpa, Matt. I've said from the start, I'd like to play as long as I can. I feel really good. My body feels really good. I still feel like I can play at as high a level as I ever have. Well, it's funny. I played in a division that it was Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and then me, you know, at one point. And I was like, I think maybe 35 at the time when I was doing that. And I was like, no, I feel young. Tom's like 43 and Drew's 41. I like the, you know, I'm still pretty young. It's, it definitely changes, you know, quickly. but I feel good. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Well, he was drafted in 2008. I met him. I met him that year at Bristol, really mature, like a grown-up. I met Russell Wilson before he played in the league and Matt Ryan. You knew instantly. Oh, those were face of the franchise guys. Total grown-up. Yeah, some people just have that air about them.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yes. They know how to talk to people. I met Russell Wilson at 23 years, 22 years old at a Super Bowl before he played for the Seahawks. And I was just like, Wow. Like, is he going to be commissioner? Like Larry Fitzgerald, some guys you meet and you're like, are you a player or an executive? Yeah, that was my impression of Sean McVeigh the first time I met him.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I was like, how old are you? Now I understand why you are where you are at the age that you're at. Because at your age, I was a complete lunatic. I still am. And you're the head coach in the NFL. It makes sense. But there's eight active players from that class, including Matt Ryan. Here are the others.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Joe Flacco, Chad Henny, Josh Johnson, all quarterbacks, Dwayne Brown, Deshaun Jackson, Callais Campbell, and Matthew Slater. So I don't think that he is too old to get anything done there. I think this is a great situation for Matt Ryan. I think possibly a better situation for Matt Ryan than for the Colts because I don't know that I would have moved off of Carson Wentz. Then Carson Wentz was probably a longer-term solution and it was a bit of a panic move. but he's no longer there
Starting point is 00:24:41 and this is a good replacement for Carson Wentz. My question with the Colts is I think we might be giving them a little bit too much credit. We might be giving them a little too much credit. They're running through Gris quite a bit. Well, that's the other that you could,
Starting point is 00:24:54 there's an argument to be made. That is fair. You know, I do think that sometimes we get caught up in the brands and that they're a little quiet and, you know, consistency matters, especially at that position. And they've been having it's a little bit how things were with the Broncos for a while.
Starting point is 00:25:09 You've got a great roster, you got a lot of pieces, but you can't get that position right. No, it's hard. By the way, they've been searching for Marino in Miami, as you know, forever. Yeah, but we give Miami their proper due for not being able to figure that out. Some of these other organizations, I think, kind of get a pass because of the, they are overall more well-run, less drama, less chaos than a situation like Miami. I'll flip the telescope. So Andrew Luck retires suddenly, and they're screwed. Yes, fair.
Starting point is 00:25:36 I'll argue, Philip Rivers got into the playoffs. Matt Ryan's good enough to get him to the playoffs. And Carson Wentz, if Derek Card had to make the best throw of his career to Hunter Renfro, they would have made the playoffs. So they also could have won the game against a terrible Jacksonville team. But in the end, considering Andrew Lott, what if Peyton Manning would have retired moving into his prime? Oh, they weren't prepared for it. No, I don't think the retirement is their fault.
Starting point is 00:26:02 That was a decision by Andrew Lut. So am I? Now, him retiring when he did was there. fault because they wouldn't put pieces around him to protect him. And his body deteriorated much faster than it needed to. But that was a previous regime. So Ballard comes in and it's like they're just trying to, what they're trying to do is bail water and hope they can find their guy. But if you look at the history of the NFL when a Peyton man, when a great quarterback leaves, like an ill wear, it's, it's 20 years of nonsense. Yes. They've still been viable. And I think this again,
Starting point is 00:26:33 like Philip Rivers and Wentz, is best. case scenario. I don't think it's a bad scenario. I do think Matt Ryan will be productive there. He is an adult. You're not going to have any kind of issues with coaches. You're not going to have any issues with teammates. Things that you did hear about with Carson Wentz now in two places.
Starting point is 00:26:50 So I'm with you there. I don't have, you know, Super Bowl expectations for this team, but I do think it's a good option. I'm just saying, I don't think they're a dysfunctional organization. But this isn't a long-term solution in Matt Ryan either. So they still need to stay active in trying to find who their next franchise guys.
Starting point is 00:27:06 I think they should draft a quarterback, maybe not this year, because I do think they have a wide receiver need. Matt Ryan needs, you got to give him weapons. I mean, once they lost Calvin Ridley for the year, you knew instantly, oh, this is a bad team. And then when they lost the other receiver to Tampa, you're like, oh, this is maybe the worst team in the league. So he needs help.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I think a team like the Colts. And the way that these trades are being made and the, and the draft picks that are being given away to get franchise guys, take your time, do your due diligence, and scout the guy that you want coming out of college, and then offer someone a package to move up and get them. They're never going to be in a position to draft in the top of the drafts with the roster that they have.
Starting point is 00:27:55 So just make the trade. Give them three first round picks. Move up and get the guy that you want. So many teams are so afraid to make that drastic move. Why? Look at what Denver gave away to get, Russell Wilson, why wouldn't you do that if that's what you want to go for? Like Trey Lance.
Starting point is 00:28:10 So a number of teams are looking for a quarterback next season, and the list is getting smaller. The Niners still have not traded Jimmy Garoppolo. And according to Jeff Howe of the Athletic, they might not trade him at all. The Niners are reportedly not going to part with Garoppolo unless they have an offer that they are blown away by. They could choose to continue evaluating Trey Lance during the off season to decide later later on if he's ready to be the starter.
Starting point is 00:28:33 I think if Tray Lance is not ready to be the starter at the beginning of next season, this is catastrophe. Well, it's a little bit of a gulp. I mean, it's a little. It's a catastrophe. How can you not be ready to be the starter? That's a lot of time. Yes, it is a lot of time.
Starting point is 00:28:48 I am really okay for a guy that played almost no college football sitting last year. Me too. But talent's talent. Like, Kyla Murray only started for one year of college. Like, talent's talent at some point you've got to get on the field. And if you're telling me, Garapolo's the answer for another year, what you're telling me is at practice, Garapolo's better.
Starting point is 00:29:07 Garopolo's better than Tray Lance. It practice. And practice is something. You don't have that much time. You just don't. Especially not for what the Niners gave up for him. That's a colossal mistake if he is still not ready to play. Now, I think he is.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I think this is just more, you know, kind of pressure to drive up the price for Jimmy Garoppolo, which they've said is two picks. but at this point it might make sense for them to just wait until the start of the season. So O'Dell is still on the free agent market. He is recovering from an ACL injury that is expected to keep him sidelined well into the 2022 season. Rams GMs, GM, L.S. Needs said the team definitely wants to re-sign him. And O'Dell said L.A. feels like home. He won the Super Bowl, but he would consider options.
Starting point is 00:29:53 Mary Kay Cabot reported that O'Dell would be open to going back to Cleveland if the team was interested. Oh, my. That is a facial. not great. That's bad. That is bad for Baker. He loved his teammates and the Browns fans. And she also noted the Deshawn Watson trade was a factor. Yeah, this is a full stop right there. This is something else. This is another mark on the Baker Mayfield era era. I thought the exit with Odell from the Browns, I know everyone didn't like his dad getting involved, but I felt like he just had to do the break glass situation to get out of there. So I was okay with it.
Starting point is 00:30:31 And now seeing how everything's played out with Baker Mayfields, it's pretty obvious that it was a toxic situation. But this is a huge tell because the Rams are obviously a very well-run organization. They're great with players. Odell contributed this year. And I think he may end up back with the Rams, but the fact that he would want to go back to Cleveland's or even put that out there. To put it out there. It's extremely telling. Boom.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd line news. Well, this is painful to say. but if Tyreek Hill chooses the Jets of the Dolphins, Kansas City is no longer the best roster in that division. Sorry, they're not. Chargers have massively upgraded. And by the way, chargers were good. The Raiders have upgraded. Denver's got spectacular talent. And now a guy to, you know, pull it together,
Starting point is 00:31:16 galvanized the room in Russell Wilson. Nick Wright joining us live, I'm sure he's going to pretend that he's not nervous. Come on. This is... Well, hold on. No, I just want... Hold on. Wait, we can talk about this in a moment. You said they're not still the best, but then you listed three teams. Are they the worst? I'm just curious. And Colin Cowards, forget the shoe bowl bubble. If they lose Tyree Kill, oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:31:39 So what? Just behind the Chargers? Just behind the Chargers? Just behind the Chargers? Denver. Oh. Oh, they'll be third by the end of the show. I already know it, but it's fine.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Listen, here's the deal, America. They might lose Tyree Kill. Uh-oh. And I was hosting recording tomorrow's episode of the What's Right with Nick Right podcast, and my son as this news broke. He broke the news to me, and people can, you know, check it out on YouTube tomorrow. In real time, I didn't deal with it great.
Starting point is 00:32:10 He broke the news to me. I thought he was kidding. And then I checked the tweet, and the first name I saw was Marquez-Vald as Scantling. And I didn't love that. I didn't love a Tyree Kill Marquez who being replaced by Marquess Valdez-S-Cantling. But, Colin, Colin, you know what made me feel better? What? And you know what has given me a sense of calm?
Starting point is 00:32:29 What? these two words, Jets, dolphins. I like the idea of doing business with either of those teams. I like the idea on being on the receiving end of a Jets or a Dolphins trade.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I like the idea of the dolphins trading away this year's first plus a second, plus Jail and Waddle, who they gave up two first round picks just to get a year into his rookie deal. Or the Jets. They have the fourth pick, they have the 10th pick,
Starting point is 00:32:58 they also have a history of being awful every year of my life. I like the idea of having those picks coming back. And here's what else I like. A few other things, Colin, if I may. I like how Uncle Colin has told us wide receivers are the icing on the cake and you don't overpay
Starting point is 00:33:14 for him. And Belichick gets out early. Oh, so maybe the new dynasty is following the old dynasty's tricks. Let's get out early. Let's get young players. Let's get cost controlled. And I'll tell you one other thing I like. While the Broncos are diluting themselves into the fact, the idea that they can win
Starting point is 00:33:29 right now and trading away future picks. And the Raiders are deluding themselves in the idea that Devante Adams is going to make Derek Carr turn into someone other than Derek Carr, and they're trading away first round picks. The Chiefs have a 10-year plan. We're going to have the best quarterback in the world for the next 10, 12, 15, 18 years. Let's let's not try to microwave it the way the rest of the league is. So I'm all right with it, Colin. I'm just all right with it.
Starting point is 00:33:53 And maybe, just maybe, Odell Beckham Jr. takes my advice from a few months ago and checks out some Can City real estate. That dollar goes quite a bit further in Kansas, and then it does in Pricy Los Angeles, my friend. So we're just fine. We're just fine. You know what? I'm good.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I'm not worried about it. Tyreek, I appreciated watching you as a player. I love you, but we'll be fine. Go enjoy the Jets. By the way, it is now official. The Chiefs are trading Tyreek to the dolphins. Here's the good news. For five, five picks.
Starting point is 00:34:29 you get the Dolphins first round pick this year and their second. Number 29. And their second pick. Number 50. And their fourth. And then next year you get a fourth. And a fourth and a sixth next year. No Jalen Waddle. I would have liked Jail and Waddle.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Okay. You know what? I'd rather trade it with the Jets. I'm not going to lie to you. Okay. I like the idea of Zach Wilson throwing it out of bounds and the Jets having the sixth pick. And I was getting that. I'd rather traded with the Jets.
Starting point is 00:34:58 However, and here's what, you know what? Here's an added little piece. I can't believe I'm getting all this news live on the air. I have to react real time. Here's the other thing, Colin, that is happening here, all right? It is going to give my guy Patrick Mahomes a chance to make some of your old Patrick Malm's commentary look all the more foolish. Because we have a lot of video of Colin Goward saying, well, let's see him without Tyree Kill. Well, now we're going to get to see it.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Yeah. You should be excited. It's going to be Juju Smith Schuster, Mark Wesvalda Stantling, and a rookie. Let's go. Let's go. I'm fine with it. Underdog Chiefs. Back where I feel most comfortable.
Starting point is 00:35:40 You're going to have them out of the playoffs. I guarantee it. Mark this tape, Libby, and all the producers, by September. Colin's going to have the Chargers and the Broncos in the playoffs out of the AFC West and the Chiefs missing entirely. Mark it down. I'm excited for it. So I will say this.
Starting point is 00:35:58 My collar's all screwed up. I'm fired up. No, I will say this. The Chiefs getting the Dolphins first and forget all the other picks. Forget the fourth and sixth round picks. Kansas City is such a good team. You have no idea if a fourth round pick is going to play a lot. Let's just concentrate on getting the first and second this year.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Go draft a receiver. Go draft two receivers. They don't have a ton of needs. They got Justin Reed at safety. I will say this. If you'd have told me the Chiefs got five picks, Randy Moss, New England gave up a fourth round pick for Randy Moss.
Starting point is 00:36:32 So for the Chiefs to get five picks is a ton. Five picks. Now, now. And save $20 million against the cap. And not pay Tyree. Devante Adams screwed up the market for everybody. Paying receivers $30 million. What is this?
Starting point is 00:36:47 Monopoly money? We got to be frugal. We got to be fiscally sound. Go ahead, sir. Yeah, like you've ever been fiscally sound. Like Nick Wright's ever been fiscally sound. You go from your paycheck to a casino, know, five minutes. I'm fisting. Yeah, well, it's hard. You're fiscally sound. It's hard to be fiscally sound
Starting point is 00:37:05 when Joy Taylor's flying to New York City to party with your wife on the weekends and then leaves where the check comes. All of a sudden, I'm like, I didn't order that champagne. They're gone. Go ahead. So my takeaway is you're not going to be as good this year, but long term, I'm totally good with this trade. I'm totally good. Now, remember, let me throw this out. Let's not forget just Russell, to Denver. They added the second best interior. defensive lineman against the run in Jones from Niners and Randy Gregory. So Patrick, that is understated for them because they have great corners. It's understated for Denver.
Starting point is 00:37:39 Their pass rush got significantly better and they did it quarterback. So I don't think, I think Denver this minute has a chance to be better than Kansas City. I'm not picking it for fourth. But long term, just getting a first second and a fourth for a star receiver. I take it. I like Tyree Kill. But that is a haul. I like him too.
Starting point is 00:38:01 That is a haul. Yeah, imagine how good. And by the way, imagine how good Tyreeks going to look with Baker throwing to him when the dolphins end up going and get him. Your worst nightmare, Colin. I'm just firing. I'm just ready to go here. You know what? We needed to rebuild the defense anyway.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Yeah. It's fine because the fact of the matter is with the defense, with Honeybadger leaving, I like Justin Reed, but you need some legitimate pass rushers other than Chris Jones. So you do that. and there is an element of, and I understand it's in vogue, because it worked for Tampa and it worked for the Rams, of go all in, go all in, go all in, go all in.
Starting point is 00:38:36 But if everyone is going all in at the same time, a lot of those people are going to end up disappointed, and then there's going to be the chiefs, just, you know what, hanging in the back, just being like, oh, okay, we'll let you guys, we'll let you guys jump out to an early lead. But this is a Kentucky Derby now. We got a hole, we got another backstretch for long to come,
Starting point is 00:38:54 and I'm fine with it. I'm good with it. And we got the best jockey in the world and the best horse. So you know what? Reed Mahomes. Kelsey ain't going nowhere. I'm good with it. I think they might have gotten better.
Starting point is 00:39:05 You know what? I did my tears today. I had the chiefs at the top but barely over Buffalo. I think maybe they've widened the gap. I'm convinced. And Mark Westwald is Scantling. He's underrated. I was watching some of this film.
Starting point is 00:39:18 No, he's not. Aaron's missing it. Aaron's too focused on on Devonte. Mark Westwald of Scantling, maybe some have said, was the best receiver free they had last year. Someone said. Nobody has said that. And if they did, they were removed from the discussion or the chat room.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Nobody had said that ever. You sold me on a lot of things there until that last point. You just blew the interview. All right. Well, I don't even want to go to a second topic. I'll see you. So, all right. Why would we?
Starting point is 00:39:48 The chiefs obviously got better today. They followed the Patriots model. They sell high, High low, cheap, not $30 million a year for a receiver that's about to be 30 years old. Let the Raiders do get in that business. We don't need to worry about that business. We got Mahomes. We're fine.
Starting point is 00:40:07 I'm good. I feel great. I think I'm going to go celebrate. I don't even know I'm going to be on the air tomorrow. I'm done. Four years, $120 million. That's, I'm sorry. That's $30 million a year, Colin.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Break out the abacus. That's a lot of money. And I just gave up how much guaranteed? 72 million guaranteed. Okay. 72 million guaranteed. Well, you know what Miami's thinking? We're not going to extend Tua.
Starting point is 00:40:35 This is the way Miami's thinking. We're going to have a new quarterback by next year. We're not going to pay him or Waddle so we can pay a fortune for the fastest guy. I mean, I would not pay that and give up a draft. It's not that the Dolphins paid that. They gave up this year's draft. They gave up a one, two, and a four. So they have a third round pick for an offensive line despite Armistead.
Starting point is 00:40:56 is still a total rebuild. So that's, but by the way, your Scantling thing, let's just edit the tape. That Valdez, Mark, you. All right, listen, I got a little over my skis or Marquezvolda Scantling. So be it. It happens. But otherwise, I haven't studied receivers in the draft yet because I didn't know the
Starting point is 00:41:13 chiefs were going to do it. But McColl Hardman, hey, McCall Hardman, we drafted him once upon the time. He's been ready to break out. Receivers are fine. Spent all the picks on defense. Go after Josh Allen, Justin Herbert. Do it that way. I feel great about the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:41:25 This is a good day. Some of this feels like projecting, but I'm not a therapist. I'm not going to make that call. Nick, Nick rides a pleasure to see you. Pretty good pleasure to see you. Yeah, you too. I'll try to get a better suit next time. I got a little worked up.
Starting point is 00:41:37 See you guys. That was funny. Yeah, that's $120 million to a wide receiver, and you gave up this draft. Miami's takeaway is we're not going to pay a quarterback because we're moving off two in a year. We're not paying Waddle, who's a terrific young player. We got to pay somebody. And we're not outside of the left tackle who they just bought from. the Saints. They're not paying a lot of people on that team. So let's go with an offensive coach
Starting point is 00:42:01 and a limited quarterback. We're going all in on a guy who is virtually impossible. Also, Tyreek Hill, he can do the jet sweep. You can do the bubble screens. He is a home run waiting to happen. He's a home run hitter. There's not a lot of guys in the league like him. I mean, I love Cooper Cup. He's a volume receiver, and you can do a lot with Cooper Cup. Think about Tyreek Hill is a faster Cooper Cup. You can put him in jet sweeps. I mean, that jet sweep the Rams had against the Bengals, it could have been the play that won the Super Bowl. You can go deep with Cooper Cup. You can do bubble screens with him. You can do drag routes. You can do anything with Cooper Cup and he's open and all of them. That's kind of Tyree Kill, a faster version of
Starting point is 00:42:40 Cooper Cup. You could just use him. He changes your offense. You can use him in a million different ways. So there you go. Starting point is 00:45:28 To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so... Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:45:51 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years. from black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host,

I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:46:22 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch life becomes about wins and losses Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:46:46 I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:47:09 when a wide receiver, a good one goes for five picks. The Dolphins gave up their first round pick, their second round pick, and this year's fourth round pick. Now, they have a third round pick, and they also have another fourth round pick. So the dolphins will have a third round pick and a fourth round pick. One of the things Joe and I were talking about is during the break. Tua is not a great deep ball thrower,
Starting point is 00:47:33 and he's not the kind of guy that can extend the pocket with his feet. And the dolphins have a bad offensive line. Now, they've tried to address it in free agency. They went and got Tron Armstead offensive tackle from the Saints. He's heard a lot. He's very good, very good. Heard a lot. Connor Williams from the Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:47:51 Okay. So, I mean, those are upgrades if they're healthy. But, you know, Tua is not the guy and guy. Like, Justin Herbert can run around, extend the pocket and go deep. Even that said, the Chargers went and addressed the offensive line with Roshan Slater and Corey Lindley, and they were both home runs. Because at some point, your quarterback has to be able to sit in the pocket and throw the ball. Tyreek Hill's game is the deep ball. Now, he's a little like Cooper Cup in that he's really good on JetSy. sweeps. He's really clever. He's really good in bubble screens. You know, you don't think of Cooper Cup when you think of Tyreek Hill. I do because they're really multi-dimensional players. They're good with the ball in their hands. They're good after the catch. They get open. Now, Tyreeks in a different class speed-wise than the league. I mean, essentially the league. But you can use them. I mean, I will say this. Very few non-quarterbacks in the NFL are worth a point in Vegas. Tyreek's worth a point. Jamar Chase is worth a point. DeAndre Hopkins, when healthy, is worth a point. There's about four to five receivers in this league. They're worth a point.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Or a game. I think Jamar Chase will win you a game every year. Tyreek will win you a game. I mean, they beat New England twice last year without him. Now Waddell in his second year, Tua with an offensive coach, Tyreek Hill. Miami's better today. There's no question. Miami's better and Miami's looking around the AFC and like we got to get weapons. So I don't have a problem with Miami doing it. I think Tyree made a bad decision in terms of legacy. I just, you're not going to find better than my homes than Annie Reid on the market. But I get the move by Miami.
Starting point is 00:49:34 Five picks is a ton. But he's a game changer. It's the herd. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
