Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career
in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not
only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
So let's get to it.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I put on 10.
I was having trouble
stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way
with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences,
having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere,
but you're having them with a licensed professional
who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

You know, I don't know if it was good for me physically, but right before bed, I had a giant brownie.
Oh, I saw you tweeted about that.
I went right to bed.
Where was brownies?
Lexi made some brownies.
Oh, okay.
And I got to tell you something, I woke up this morning.

great to have you in today we got a pack show obviously the herd brought to you by jersey mike
subs be a sub above so whether it happens or not uh
I'm reading this morning.
This is the latest breaking news on Deshawn Watson, who's a Pro Bowl level quarterback.
We know it's never been more of a quarterback league.
I know a lot of people are saying, why are you talking about it?
It hasn't happened yet because a lot of people I trust are saying now it's Miami.
Deshaun, they've agreed to terms.
Now, it doesn't mean it'll happen.
Miami, Stephen, Ross, the owner, wants to get resolution on some legal stuff.
But Carolina's out.
Miami and the Houston, Texans have agreed to terms draft picks and all that stuff.
And from what you read, you know, they didn't have to give up nearly as much for Dishon Watson
if he did not have a mess legally staring him in the face.
But this is what's interesting about this, is that when you're young, they call it a kingmaker.
When you're young in any field, you're a young football coach, you're a young broadcaster,
you're in politics, you're at a law firm, you need a kingmaker.
somebody that believes in you. Because when you're young, your career is kind of turbulent and you make
more mistakes and you, you know what I mean? Like you don't dress as good as everybody else and you,
I didn't have any money and I look crappy and a cheap tie and you need somebody that believes in you.
And it's very interesting in Miami, whether or not the Deshawn Watson thing happens,
too was officially not it in Miami. It's too public. Miami, it's, they know, everybody knows.
And here's what's fascinating.
Two has been given 13 starts for a rebuilding team, right?
We don't think this is a complete team.
It's a rebuilding team.
Here is numbers.
66% completion percentage.
Almost a 90 passer rating.
18 TDs, 19 picks.
Zach Wilson would die for those.
Justin Fields would die for those.
Daniel Jones and his first 13 starts would die for those.
So, like they're bailing on him?
And by the way, they probably bailed seven starts ago.
Why?
Number one is he never got any momentum.
The injuries said he didn't know the playbook.
He never got any momentum.
It's also an impatient owner.
Justin Herbert and Joe Burrell make him look kind of below average.
The GM and the head coach have an impatient owner.
They got to win now.
But here's something I think is undervalued in all of this.
Josh Allen at Buffalo.
That Josh Allen is so tremendously gifted
that Miami's coaches, Brian Flores is a defensive coach.
He's faced Josh Allen at Buffalo five times.
He's 0 and 5. He's been blown out four times.
And Josh Allen has carved up his defenses.
And the NFL is getting increasingly quarterback reliant.
And Brian Flores is a defensive coach and says,
I can't face that.
that two times a year with Tua.
And it reminds me, I remember when LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony came into the NBA
the first year.
Now, LeBron was out of high school and Carmelo was out of college.
So Carmelos' offensive game was a little more sophisticated at that point.
And the King games weren't on much.
But I can remember it was year two or year three.
It was not the first year.
It was year two or year three.
And they were both.
I mean, Carmelo was crushing it in Denver.
And LeBron was a phenom, right?
But there were people arguing, because Carmelow was really turning the nuggets around.
And I watched them play a game.
The Cavs played Denver.
And I happened to watch a half of it.
And even though they both played well, when you put them side by side, it was like, oh, this is not close.
This is not close.
LeBron's way more athletic, way better defensive player, a bizarrely great passer at like 21 years old.
And everybody was like, if you watched them,
separately, Carmelos
an all-star, LeBron's great.
When you put them on the floor together,
it was like, okay, I know
they just both scored 30. This is not
close. And I think that
is a big part of this.
Is that when you
Tua, you see him, and then there's Josh Allen.
Remember, Josh Rosen
in Arizona only got
13 starts too.
And in those 13 starts, he was on the same field
as Aaron Rogers, Mahomes, and Russell
Wilson. And when
And you put those guys on the field with Josh Rosen.
And by the way, Aaron Rogers didn't even play particularly well against him.
But he made throws Josh can't.
And Mahomes made throws he can't.
And Russell moved around like Josh can't.
And I think a big part of this is it's one thing to struggle.
It's one thing to be a little small and not athletic.
But I think the Josh Allen factor is a real thing.
In fact, whenever you're up against greatness, it shrinks people.
I mean, do you know how many coaches have been fired in the SEC since Nick Saban arrived?
It's insane.
I mean, Les Miles was winning 10 games a year and they got rid of him.
Why?
Because God, he looked bad when LSU would beat everybody in that conference.
God, did he look bad against Saban?
Everybody's like, they can't do it.
By the way, Auburn's guy.
Auburn runs through coaches.
They do fine.
It's just not against Sabin.
And so when you have great and you put it up against it, same field, same conference, it shrinks everybody.
Two is numbers are not terrible.
13 starts is fairly inconclusive, but they've officially moved off him.
And they're willing to risk it potentially with Deshawn Watson with all sorts of legal problems.
Why?
Because they feel like if you put Deshawn Watson on the same field with Josh Allen,
you got a shot.
It physically feels like you got a shot.
Two great playmakers.
I want to talk about Mike Tomlin.
So Mike Tomlin yesterday came fairly unglued when he was asked about the USC job.
And by the way, I'm not blaming anybody that put Mike Tomlin's name out there for the USC job.
I mean, you know, I mean USC swinging for the fences and that doesn't bother me.
But Mike Tomlin was very, very upset about it.
And I want to play the reaction.
I know you've already heard it, but I want to play it one more time.
Hey, guys, I don't have time for that speculation.
I mean, that's a joke to me.
I got one of the best jobs in all a professional sport.
Why would I have any interest in coaching college football?
That'll be the last time that I address it.
And not only today, but moving forward.
Never say never, but never.
Okay?
Anybody else got any questions about any college jobs?
is not a booster with a big enough blank check.
Thank you.
Anybody asking Sean Payton about that?
You know, anybody asking Andy Reid about stuff like that?
And that was the interesting part.
Because I went to my Twitter account, Twitter, and people were like, well, what is he saying?
What is he saying there when he says Sean Payton and Andy Reed, both who I love?
I'll tell you what he's saying.
exactly what he said.
Well, why don't you bring up Sean Peyton and Andy Reid?
Andy Reid, Sean Payton and Mike Tomlin.
I'll have one Super Bowl.
One.
Andy Reid's winning percentage is 62%.
Sean Payton's a 64%.
Oh, Mike Tomlin's a 65%.
Well, what about division titles?
Well, since Mike Tomlin came into the NFL in 2007, Andy's got six.
Sean's got six.
Oops.
Mike has seven.
Mike Tomlin's saying,
why don't you bring them up?
I'll understand it.
By the way, Sean Payton,
lower winning percentage, had a better quarterback.
Breeze is a much better quarterback historically.
I think he holds half the records in the NFL over Big Ben.
And he's got Patrick Mahomes.
Ben's not close.
Is the media guilty of undervaluing Mike Tomlin?
I'm guilty of this, by the way.
I'm very guilty of this.
I tend to glorify the offensive head coaches.
Sean McVewalks in the league.
I got stars in my eyes.
Oh, and then Kyle Shanahan comes in and like,
oh, Kyle Shanahan.
And Sean McDermott could be better than both.
He's a defensive guy, and I'm like, yeah, there's a guy in Buffalo.
Offense attracts us, right?
Like, McVeigh, the schemes, crazy, it looks different.
We tend to all of us kind of really love outside of Belichick.
We all just embrace the offensive guys, not the defensive guys.
But what Mike Tomlin is saying is exactly what he said.
Why don't you bring up the other guys?
And here's where Mike Tomlin has had to deal with something that I don't think's ever been discussed.
One of the beliefs the other day when I was on this call with Tom Brady and a bunch of reporters,
somebody brought this up.
I forget who it is.
I apologize.
Somebody brought it up.
It was a good point.
They say the toughest players to coach in football are aging star quarterbacks.
Jimmy Johnson and Dan Marino, great example.
Big Ben, the last three and a half years, and this needs to be noted.
has been awful. Three and a half years is not a short period of time in the NFL. A coach gets
two years if he doesn't when he's fired. In three and a half years, Big Ben is 20th in completion
percentage. 21st in passer rating. Do you realize that's including all the rookie quarterbacks
the last three and a half years? That's bad. And there's no succession plan. And Ben is high
maintenance and a lot of drama.
So when people say, well, what is Mike Tomlin saying?
Exactly what he said.
We probably should not include a Hall of Fame coach.
And it's not going to be a lot of years before he gets in.
What is it?
Five years you get to get voted in.
Mike's not going to be sitting on the beach waiting to be voted into the Hall of Fame.
Either is Sean Payton and either is Andy Reid.
Mike was saying exactly what he said.
Come on now.
Mike Tomlin, a college job in the PAC 12?
He's right.
All right.
Westbrook,
who big numbers last night.
He's starting to turn this career around.
Also, Jim Harbaugh this weekend with a, cannot be understated,
a massive, massive moment for Jim Harbaugh this week.
And I'll get into that too.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs
at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said
that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush
got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out
on the Look Back at It podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode,
with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Keer Games.
And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we,
are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

So great to have you in.
Nick right around the corner,
Joe Clatt top of the next hour.
So the Lakers won last night
overtime against the Bad Spurs team.
And it's been kind of interesting
that, you know, Russell Westbrook
is somebody like a Baker Mayfield
where I'm viewed as somebody that's highly critical of him.
I do believe I've been right on both.
But that's not really the goal here.
as context and providing what I think is something to make you think. It makes me think.
We've gotten through four Laker games this year. You've really gotten the entire Westbrook
experience. A lot of assists, a lot of turnovers, these second most turnovers in the league.
Last night, you had a 33-point game. You had game one where he couldn't shoot. You're
getting all of it. His game doesn't have a ton of nuance. It's a lot of energy and speed.
If he's hitting his, you know, layups and balls that are, you know, makeable shots for him,
not threes, not long jumpers, then he has good nights.
You know, I've always used this.
The analogy I would use with Westbrook, he's a little bit like the loudest,
flashiest guy in a room, maybe in a lounge, gets the most attention,
and people without discernment are impressed.
But in the end, if you're still arguing that he's more impactful than Chris Paul
or Steph Curry or Damien Lillard, you're impressed by that guy with a flashy shirt
and that's loud.
And I think every player in the NBA and in football has a comfort zone, games in which
they feel the most comfortable.
For Kirk Cousins, the Minnesota Viking quarterback, it's that 1 p.m. window on Sunday
against Detroit, a 500 team.
It's never Sunday night football.
It's never Monday night football.
It's not a playoff game.
And for Westbrook, a Tuesday night against the Spurs, LeBron's out, play 35 minutes,
he's incredibly comfortable.
You're going to get 15 games.
like last night for Westbrook.
And he gives you everything.
I mean, so far in this season,
we've gotten exactly everything from Westbrook.
He was averaging literally five turnovers a game entering last night.
He was shooting 9% from three point land entering last night.
You get the gamut with him.
The game didn't have a lot of nuance.
That's why at 32 he feels kind of washed.
And at 33, Steph Curry, whose game has a ton of nuance.
LeBron James at 37, 38, his game has a ton of nuance.
They age better.
It's almost like in golf, there's the guy that's long off the T, the John Daly, can't really putt, not good with his irons.
He gets a lot of attention, you know, he'll win some tournaments, but in the end, he doesn't age well because there's no refinement.
You know, the game is rough.
Westbrook's game is rough, and I think his comfort zone are these games like last night when you just can let him go.
It's an average opponent, play a bunch of minutes, and he feels free.
LeBron's on the floor.
He gets the ball.
He can control it.
You're not going to get those in playoff games.
It's not a criticism of Westbrook.
It's not about being right with Westbrook.
But I think what you've seen in only four games with the Lakers so far, four or five games,
you've seen the entire Westbrook experience.
Get used to this.
There'll be these nights where like, woo, like 33 points in 28 minutes.
You're going to get these.
And then you get to get the games like the game one where you honestly, you cannot believe
how bad of a shooter is.
You'll get all of it.
You'll always get energy.
You'll always get minutes.
and that's why the Lakers brought him in.
It wasn't for postseason excellence.
They're going to go to AD and LeBron in those spots.
That's not even Rondo can be important in those spots.
That's not why you brought him here.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, the Packers announced Monday that Devante Adams was being placed on the COVID-19 reserve list,
meaning he is highly unlikely to play tomorrow night against the Cardinals.
and Aaron Rogers said there was a shock factor when he heard the news about Adams,
but they'll find a way to work around the situation.
He said the teams dealt with playing without him in the past two years,
and they're not a better team without him, but they found a way to win.
They are 6 and 0 in those games.
It's one of those stats where he's right.
They are 6 and 0.
But the betting market is telling you what most of you can see out there.
This team feels really dependent on Devonte Adams,
and they're not really developing that.
That's why he, by the way, he wanted Randall Cobb.
Aaron tends to throw to people he trusts.
Right.
So he trusts Randall Cobb.
He trusts Devante Adams.
And it also feels, when the market moves to two, two and a half points for Devante Adams,
what is the line up to now?
Is that six and a half points?
Well, they're, yeah, six and a half.
That means, think about that.
Aaron Rogers is a six and a half point underdog.
Yeah, I think it's a lot.
It's a ton.
I think he's a lot of points.
Now, other players have.
stepped up in Adam's absence in those games. I agree with you. He is very vital to this offense.
And Aaron has become very comfortable with him. And he's also the best or one of the top three
receivers in the league. So it is a major loss. They're also out without Alan Lazard. He was
on the COVID list as well. So they'll have Randall Cobb, Equanimis, St. Brown, and Robert
Tunyon. And their defensive coordinator, Joe Barry, is also on the COVID-19 list.
This is expected not to join them for Thursday's game. So they'll have
They're kind of up against it.
They are.
I still think it's a lot of points for the Packers.
I know.
We might be disrespecting a little bit.
I think it has a chance to be a blowout.
A blowout.
I do.
I think it.
You know what?
Green Bay has two games like this a year, Joy.
Yeah.
They travel.
They're kind of up against it.
And they just fold like a deck chair.
Last year at Tampa was one of those games.
They had two of them last year.
They had two the year before.
One was against the chargers.
one was against Philadelphia.
That was a home game.
One was against San Francisco.
Sometimes when they're up against it, this team, you know, I've said this about Aaron.
They play better with a lead.
They play better in comfort.
They're a little finesse.
When they get into these octagon games where there's some things working against them,
they've shown in the recent years they can really fold fast in these spots.
I don't know.
It feels like a trap.
Six and out points is a lot of points.
It's a lot.
But they do face the Cardinals tomorrow night in Arizona in what is,
the greatest Thursday night football game of all time.
We thought it was Seahawks Rams.
Oh, we're backing off that now?
I think it's top five. It was the greatest
Thursday night football game ever and then Devonte's out.
That's not top five now.
Okay. Well, as you said, there are six and a half
point underdogs according to Foxbat.
So the World Series started last
night and had a pretty
crazy moment in it. So Brave
starting pitcher Charlie Morton will
miss the rest of the World Series after leaving
game one with a fractured bone
in his leg. So we're showing
here how it happened, it didn't, it didn't look like that right away. He got hit by a batted ball,
a 102.4 mile per hour batted ball, which would shatter my leg. Right. But they were leading five
nothing when Morton struck out Jose Altuvae on a broken leg. He almost went to the ground and came
up with a limp and he left the game in the bottom of the third inning throwing 44 pitches. Very
impressive effort. Despite the
setback, the Braves went on to win the game
6 to 2. Got up to a great
start and a big lead. And
this is a thing because Charlie
Morton is as trustable
in a big spot as anybody on that staff.
Yeah, it puts an unexpected
strain on their bullpen on the Braves bullpen
to start the series. World Series game
2 is tonight at 7.30
Eastern on Fox.
AJ Mentor replaced more in hell dashed
just the three hits and one run.
So there's been some questions
on whether or not Matt Nagy is losing the locker room.
Alan Robinson's recent comments seem like Maggie is responsible for both his struggles
and Justin Field struggles this season.
That's something that we're continuing to build on.
Again, continuing to get reps in practice.
Again, I mean, it wasn't, you know, many snaps that we kind of took throughout training
camp and stuff like that.
So, I mean, a lot of these things, you know, again, we're just trying to build on.
It's kind of an interesting thing.
Now, this is again why I always say if you take a young quarterback,
you need to make them the starter right away if they're the future
because you are taking snaps and development away from them.
But I would argue Mahomes sat and he's been the best of all of them.
Yes, but there's outliers to situations.
You don't have Alex Smith.
You had Andy Reed.
You had a very, very good roster.
and most of the time these young quarterbacks are not going to a great roster.
They're not going to Andy Reid.
This offensive line, though, is so bad.
So I was talking to somebody that covers this team in Chicago yesterday.
And he said the concern is that the offensive line is so bad
that Andy gets you in and out of like blitzes.
You can ask a veteran quarterback to do that.
Right now, Justin goes to the line.
And if they bring heat, he's in big trouble.
No, he is.
And he's been sacked 22 times, the most people.
by any quarterback in the league so far this season and he's only started five games.
There's no denying the offensive line is a problem.
And he's a rookie quarterback.
But again, what Alan Robinson is saying is true.
He didn't get those reps in training camp with Justin Fields because they were given to Andy
Dalton.
That was what the priority was.
And Andy Dalton is not the future of this organization.
So there are certain things that are hindering his development and where they are right now.
And it's because they're playing from behind because it was Andy Dalton.
team and that's where they are. Marquis Goodwin also criticized Nagy's game plan. Jalen Johnson
said something about Nagy for getting a fine for being late. And I mean, look, they're losing
and things are falling apart quickly. And that's how it goes. Their season really comes down to this
week. If they, Garoppolo comes to town, like if Chicago...
They're three and a half point underdogs, scoring to Foxxbubb. Yeah, bears are a favorite, aren't they?
Are they underdogs? They're favorite. No, they host the Niners on Sunday. They're three and a half point
underdogs. The bears are.
Yes.
Boy, that's...
That they should be.
Well, they better win that game.
That feels like Maggie's futures hanging on that one.
Well, you know, they have a good defense and they brought in...
But you know what they're going to have to do, Joy?
So they're paying like four defensive players a ton and they're all old.
Watch the next guy that comes in, if it's the next guy, what Chicago really has to do is stop paying linebackers a fortune.
Because they literally...
That's what they do, though.
It's amazing to me.
They're the only team in the league that doesn't pay a quarterback and is broke.
The only team in the league.
The Rams are paying golf and Stafford, and they still have money.
So what the bears have to do, it's fairly obvious.
You're playing all these linebackers.
You're paying all these guys in the front seven.
Keep one, move three.
And to me, go spend the money on the offensive line.
Whether it's naggy or the next guy, they have so, they have the proportion of money they have at linebacker
is ridiculous. It's insane. Think about this. The Rams are paying two quarterbacks and have a, and they just
redid another contract, Rob Halverstein, their right tackle to get more cap space. Literally,
Chicago doesn't pay their quarterbacks and had to get rid of their best corner Kyle Fuller.
Either hire a capologist or stop paying one unit all your money. Their offensive line is terrible.
Yeah, whoever is running the Rams cap is a whole seminars or something.
Deutsche Bank. He's making all the world deals. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news. You think I'm crazy about this, but the New Orleans Saints a couple years ago had like 11 pro bowlers. Every unit was great. And they had cap money. Like, people know how to do this cap or they don't. The Rams obviously know how to do the cap. The Saints obviously know how to do the camp. The Bears don't know how to do it. I mean, they don't pay anybody. It's ridiculous. How do you not keep Kyle Fuller a corner?
paying your quarterbacks. It makes no sense at all. They're not paying one of your running backs.
You're not paying your... They don't know what they're doing. Hire a capologist.
Nick Wright, co-hoes, first things first, joining me now, brought to you by Mercedes-Benz,
the best for nothing. Let me start with the Tua situation. I said, 13 games is all we know.
And his 13 game numbers are not terrible. They're really not terrible. And I said,
one of my beliefs is, it's when I watched LeBron and Carmello, like year two or
early year three, I watched them play together on the same game, and they were both great.
But I remember watching like the second half of that game going, okay, that's not.
Those are not the same players.
Like one guy is defensively, athletically.
And I think Josh Allen is 5 and O against Miami.
And they look at that and think, okay, they've blown us.
That cannot be the answer.
Am I overstating Josh Allen?
What do you make of the situation?
Well, here's what I would make of the situation.
I think Tua, coming off what you could argue, are two of his better starts, the last two.
I know that the team is not finishing these games.
However, he's averaged 300 yards last couple games, has made some high-level throws,
which were part of the struggles early on.
When the alternative is Deshaun Watson,
who is such an unknown when it comes to his future in this league,
his future freedom, all of it, if I'm Miami,
to me, it's too big of a risk to cash in these chips that we have built up through
this kind of supercharged rebuild that obviously has gone off the skids this year
to trade for a quarterback that has that much baggage is putting it very lightly
hanging over him.
So I think I would hold the fort with Tua for the year, see what he looks like,
and then if I am moving on, I know they traded away their people,
pick, which now looks like it's going to be a great pick. They're going to regret that,
but they still have surplus draft capital, Colin. And I know that you're big on Aaron Rogers
going to Pittsburgh, but maybe he's available. Russell Wilson, maybe what he's doing right now
is pantomiming a Dolphins huddle. Who knows? Because the Seahawks, by the way, don't have
their draft pick either. So I have seen just enough from Tua and I have enough trepidation about
to Sean that I think I would hold the fort for the rest of the year and see what it looks like
after the season. I know that's not the sexy answer, but I think that's what I would do.
All right, fair enough. You know, I defended Mike Tomlin, who we tend to love our offensive coaches
more than our defensive coaches. Of course, Belichick's the exception there, because it's an
offensive league and the Andy Reid's and the Sean Payton's and the Sean McVease. I mean,
Kyle Shanahan's record's brutal, and we think he's way better than Mike Singletary, and it's like,
I don't know. Is he a record doesn't tell me that.
So that's part of it.
We don't hold.
44 win percentage for Kyle Shanahan.
Yeah.
44.
Yeah.
And it's four out of 10 games and he's a genius.
Right.
You nailed this one, by the way, but go ahead.
And so my takeaway is what he said yesterday was basically exactly what he said, which
is you're not, Sean Payton's not up for a USC job.
And he reads not.
And they haven't had the deal with a drama of Big Ben, which he didn't say, but I know
we all know that.
That was my interpretation of Tomlin yesterday kind of with a short fuse.
Your thoughts?
Yeah.
I think that you were spot on.
and you and I had the exact same takeaway.
Those two names he mentioned were not too random names he picked out of the hat.
It's two guys who are always considered two of the five best coaches in football.
It's like there's Belichick and then there's, you know, who's the second best coach the last few years?
And Tomlin is sitting there saying, I've never had a losing record.
Sean Payton went seven and nine three years in a row with Drew Breeze.
Yes, I've had a Hall of Fame quarterback.
But so is Pete Carroll.
so as Sean Payton, so as Andy Reed.
I've been to as many Super Bowls or more than any of those guys.
I've won as many Super Bowls as any of those guys.
Yet, I always get jumped in the line when we talk about the great coaches.
Sean Payton doesn't, Andy Reid doesn't, but Sean McVeigh gets to get his name mentioned ahead of me.
Kyle Shanahan, who we've said, who I do things, a brilliant offensive mind.
But the fact that matter is, aside from the one year, they have a losing record every single year under him in San Francisco.
And Tomlin, I think it's fair, because you used to see this, by the way, with Mike McCarthy before he fell out of favor.
I think Tomlin's like, you guys all talk about Mike McCarthy.
He's at Aaron Rogers.
Like, what are we talking about here?
And so, yeah, I think Tomlin, because he is such a team guy and not a me guy, you don't usually see this part of him.
But I think that last little second was his frustration that you guys talk about all these coaches.
I've never had a losing record.
I've been to two Super Bowls.
I've been to another conference championship game.
And by the way, I've had to do it up until last year the whole time in a conference
with Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and then just Tom Brady.
Like I've been in the NFC, you're not going through Peyton and Brady.
I had to.
So yeah, I think he puffed out his chest a little bit saying, look at my resume compared
to Andy Reed and Sean Peyton.
Tell me why they're better.
Now, this, I'm going to do.
very diplomatic here is my friend. I don't want to put you in harm's way. The Kansas City Chiefs,
it has been a little turbulent. It has been a little rocky. First of all, when Michael Irvin
said the dynasty's dead, they have not had a dynasty. We've got to get to three of them. Let's
stop the dynasty talk. But the second thing is, I do not believe the season's over. I think
they'll figure their way out to 10 and 7. They'll figure it out. They'll get it right. But even
you would have to acknowledge, it's a little bit of a mess.
Is it a correctable mess right now?
More than a little bit.
Listen, I think it is correctable.
I think it's fascinating that despite this Titans game where they were awful at everything,
all the smart offensive numbers say this is still a top four offense in football.
Yeah.
For points per drive, points per play, how infrequently they punt,
despite the fact that they're turning the ball over three times a game,
they're still about as efficient as any offense in football.
So I think the offense will get the turnovers right and look more like the Chiefs' offense.
This idea that, oh, playing too high safeties has solved the Chiefs offense,
I don't think the numbers support that, even though against the Titans,
they looked like they had never practiced together.
The defense is worse than it was in 2018, and that is a huge problem.
Here's what I'll say about the Chiefs.
They face a playoff game Monday night.
Luckily, it's against the Giants, but they must win that game.
and then all of a sudden, the following Sunday, the Packers come to Arrowhead and we'll see if they can get it right and see if they can, because they go after the Giants, they go Packers, Raiders, Cowboys.
They're going to beat the Giants. If they go two and one in that stretch, then they're fine.
If they go one and two, they're hanging by a thread, and obviously they go 0 and 3, the season's over.
By the way, Colin, when you have coffee with the NFL decision makers, can you ask them, please, why?
Chiefs, Packers, one of the biggest games of the year.
The week before, the Packers are playing on Thursday,
and the Chiefs are playing on Monday.
Strikes me as a little unfair, a little, you know, schedule and balance, if you will.
I'm not sure if they looked at that at 345 Park Avenue.
But, you know, one team has maximum rest.
The other team has minimum rest.
It's a big game.
Maybe something we'd look at in future years.
That's all I'm saying.
Okay, so finally, I'm not a Westbrook fan,
but I would vote him in the Hall of Fame.
I'd pay to watch him play.
I do not think it's fair to call him a villain
because I think he's a good human being.
He's got a game that has not, as I've said,
sometimes a sport moves with you.
It's moved with Brady, where you can't hit
quarterbacks and receivers.
The sport has moved with Brady.
It's moved away from Russ.
But I said, you know, last night,
we've seen four or five games with Russ and the Lakers.
You've gotten the full Westbrook experience.
A million turnovers, a million assists.
He can't shoot.
He gets 33.
What do you make of him in L.
is he what you thought he would be?
Well, listen, he is first year in Houston, his only year in Houston, he was bad the first
three months, good the last three months.
Same thing with Washington.
Bad the beginning of the season, good, the end of the season.
So I think it's going to be a work in progress all year, particularly in the beginning,
for the three guys, LeBron A.D. and Russ to play together, and some of that's going to be
Vogel having to learn.
He can't play a center with those guys.
He can't have Russ and a center on the court.
You can't have two total non-shooter.
on the court. What I want to remind the audience, though, is they did not just get Russ for the
playoffs. They also got him for this exact moment. We're giving LeBron the night off. Can we not
lose to the Spurs, please? The Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron's second stint there, with Kyrie and
Kevin Love, were four and 23 in the 27 games LeBron sat. That doesn't even include the year
Kyrie was gone because LeBron played all 82. The Lakers, seating is
going to matter at least somewhat. They need to not lose winnable games when they are resting
LeBron or letting him heal up from nicks and bruises. So I think that that's part of the value.
Can you not get blown off the court in the minutes he sits and the games he sits?
You know, they're going to take all year to have to figure out how they're going to work in the
playoffs. But where they are positioned in the playoffs, nights like last night, maybe tonight,
if LeBron rests again against OKC, Russ can be valuable. But before I go, I have a question.
for you. I know it's your show, but I have to ask you a question. Sure. You've been doing this for 30 years.
Yeah. You know, Vegas to Tampa to Portland, Bristol to here. You've won every award. If you're not in the Hall of Fame, you will be soon.
All right. How long did you practice your Tom Brady question in a mirror before you got to ask?
You know, it's funny. I wrote it down. I thought if you get nervous, I'm sure you did. He's got to look over there. There's a question. And then you ask it to Tom.
the way, my favorite part was, and this is not a shock because he's a conscientious guy,
he gave us a five-minute answer. A five-minute answer. Oh, yeah. Listen. I know. Listen, Colin,
I remember three years ago when Tom either tweeted or mentioned something about you,
and you said on the air, like a child on Christmas, Tom Brady knows who I am.
You were so excited. And seeing you get to ask him a question, it just warmed my heart, Colin.
I'm very happy for you. All right. Good seeing you, buddy. Nick Wright. First things first.
Yes, I did take a great deal of pride
Because I had a question, remember last week,
and I thought about it and I thought that's too pithy.
That's not substantial enough for Brady.
Yeah, it wasn't.
It was too ethereal.
It might have been a great story.
But it wasn't a good question.
And I said, I'm going to ask Tom.
Tom substantial.
I'm going to ask him a substantial question.
And I want a substantial answer.
I literally thought about it all weekend long.
I'm never going to get to ask Tom Brady another question in my career.
He's like the only guy I've never met in this business that I've wanted to meet.
I don't know what I would ask Tom Brady.
I would spend a lot of time thinking about it.
I did.
Yeah.
I figured this is it.
This is like, this is it.
This is my one time.
I bumped into Don Cheadle in Santa Monica more in the last two months than I've seen Tom Brady.
I never get to see him.
Who is someone, well, obviously Tom Brady is someone you wanted to interview?
I would love to sit down with Tom for 30 minutes.
Who is somebody you haven't interviewed in the sports world outside of Tom that you would want to?
My number one answer is always Phil Mickelson.
I think he's a fascinating guy.
I would talk business.
I would talk golf.
I think he's smart.
He's,
I think,
I would sit down and talk with Phil McKles.
Have you interviewed Aaron?
Aaron doesn't like me,
so he would never talk to me.
Yeah, but like,
no,
I have interviewed him.
I've talked to him live in person once.
And,
and I would,
I'm very confrontational.
So I would just tell him,
Aaron,
when you're mad,
I love you and when you're happy,
I love you,
go to a therapist
for all the Zen stuff.
Don't do it publicly.
I don't like that,
Aaron, you're a quarterback
a franchise guy.
Let's not talk about your therapy sessions.
Mad Aaron,
yelling at team.
I love and funny
Aaron after a win I love.
I would love to interview Michael.
Jordan?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I thought the MJ documentary
I got a little bit of everything.
I got the feisty competitive Michael.
I got the having a bourbon laughing Michael.
I got a lot of Michael in that.
I don't like to reminisce on a lot from last year.
But that last dance documentary
Oh my God.
I loved it.
Like was so substantial to our show
substantial. It was the life preserver.
It was. It was. We had no show. Ryan, we were coming up just, I mean, we would have talked about candy corn for a month.
We needed anything to get through shows. I got to take a break. I talk too much. It's the herd.

Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.

Anytime anybody gets defensive about something,
it means you're right over the target.
You've landed.
People don't get defensive.
Nobody goes up to George Clooney and says,
you're ugly.
And Clooney's like, hey, what do you mean?
It doesn't land.
When people get defensive like Cleveland Brown fans about Baker,
it means you're on to something.
Baker Mayfield wants to play this weekend.
I don't blame him.
Because Case Keenham came out and beat Denver and looked good.
And then Jedrick Wills, the left tackle,
had to almost apologize for saying this after the win.
We didn't feel any drop off.
Case is a veteran guy who's played in multiple.
He's probably played in more games than I have my whole career.
You know what I'm saying?
So there was no drop off.
Everything felt very smooth.
I ran the offense smooth.
Everything was fun.
It's not exactly what you want.
between starter and backup.
There's no real difference.
Jedrick Will's had to backtrack because people are getting a little defensive in Cleveland.
I don't blame Baker Mayfield.
Okay, we know what's going to happen here.
If Case Keenham, and Baker's not healthy and Baker probably shouldn't play,
and I said this last week, you can do whatever you want.
You can play them through the injury.
You cannot, but there's not a huge drop-off.
The betting market here sees about a one-and-a-half-point drop-off.
I think Cleveland wins this weekend.
They win with Baker.
I think they win with Case.
So there's an argument to be made.
Just get Baker healthier.
If you can win, now, now, now, maybe in Cincinnati on the road,
maybe you're like, I'll play with a Hurt Baker.
But I think Cleveland wins this weekend.
And I think they win with Baker or Case.
But you do see what's going to happen.
Is that if Case wins over Pittsburgh, he is 2 and 0.
And then Baker could come back and would face the best Cincinnati Bengals team in 20 years
at Cincinnati and Joe Burroughs on fire and Joe Burroughs weapons are all healthy.
And if Burrow beats Baker, we're going to have a conversation.
You can tell when you're right, when you've landed the punch because people get defensive.
And Jedrick Wills is like, I didn't mean that.
What I meant?
It landed.
And it's going to really land if Case plays this weekend and wins.
And what's interesting is,
I think Baker's smart enough to see this is a winnable game for us.
Last time we played them, we moved the ball up and down.
The problematic part for Baker is the next two games after this, if Case goes 2 and O,
are at Cincinnati.
That's the best Cincinnati's played in 20 years.
And then at New England.
And Mack Jones' last 10 quarters, it's been pretty good.
Second half against Houston, four quarters against Dallas, four quarters against
the Jets. Mac Jones, those are the best 10 quarters. So then you go up against Belichick
and a hot Mac Jones. You go to Cincinnati and a hot Joe Burrow and case goes 2 and 0 and you go
0 and 2. You think that's going to be a topic? Of course it's going to be a topic. So, you know,
and then you have your left tackle saying it's not a big drop off and the betting market's not
seeing a big drop off. Don't get defensive about it. You're defensive about it because you know
here it comes.
So I think, you know, Baker's like,
get me out there against Pittsburgh.
Because at Cincinnati and at New England,
you know, last year,
you win those games.
November?
I'm not sure.
