Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying.

Starting point is 00:04:07 For Fox Sports Radio, Covino and Rich at Auburn. Details at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. We'd love to see you there. We're going to party. September 27th. Also, if you like our show, we're on every day, Monday through Friday, two to four on the West,
Starting point is 00:04:22 five to seven on the east. We also have a bonus podcast overpromised on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. You could watch what you hear, so check that out. And just appreciate hanging with you guys. Appreciate being here on the herd. You heard?
Starting point is 00:04:35 You nerd. Now, we're going to talk, Lauren James in just a second, but I saw the Vegas odds for the top five AFC teams to represent Zent in the Super Bowl. Okay. Do you agree with this top five?
Starting point is 00:04:52 I'll read it to you right. Can you do it in countdown form like Spider-Harrison? I'll do my best Rick D. Spider-Harrison and Casey Kays. Combined. If you're going to do a top five countdown, you've got to do it like a pop radio superstar. Spada Harrison. Casey Kaysam.
Starting point is 00:05:06 In case you don't know, by the way, Rich Davis is the guy on Pop 2K on SXM. And I am the guy on Turbo and all that other stuff. We combine and join forces to do this show. Pretty sweet side hustles. Yeah. All right, so I'll give you the top five AFC teams. Coming in at number five. Favorite in Las Vegas.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Number five. The Jets at plus 850. Okay. Number four. They're Houston Texans. Coming into number four. Plus 800. Cincinnati Bengals.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Plus 750. It's the Bengals with a bullet. As we move up the countdown. The Baltimore Ravens at plus 550. And we've made it to the top. Of course, the Kansas. City Chiefs at plus 3.50. Is there a team
Starting point is 00:06:05 outside the top five that you're like, hell, they forgot them? So you got Kansas City, Baltimore, Bengals, Texans, Jets. Hmm. Is there a little disrespect on the name of the Buffalo Bills? I'm just amazed that. A little disrespect. On everybody's sort of list
Starting point is 00:06:21 because there's so many question marks there. You're really banking on Aaron Rogers to be the man. And I understand they've been picked to win it all. Keep in mind if you know, they had Aaron Rogers, you know, last four plays. But didn't you say yesterday, the Jets are going to jet? The team around the Jets.
Starting point is 00:06:38 All of a sudden, they're not jetting anymore? The team around the Jets around Aaron Rogers last year was good. I think they made improvements, and he is actually going to play this year. Knock on wood. So I don't hate the Jets being in the top five. In fact... Where were your 49ers again? This is the AFC.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Oh, AFC. Okay. AFC top five. Fortinators would be number one in the NFC. I'd imagine. Ooh. Jets? Jets. Houston, Sinci, Baltimore, Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:07:05 The only maybe is if you have faith in Buffalo or Miami and you think that we're sleeping on Mike McDaniel, but Danny G. pointed out yesterday a lot of defensive setbacks on the Dolphins. They lost a couple of key players to free agency.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And the Buffalo Bills, you wonder if Josh Allen has enough weapons and if that team is, you know, did they miss their little window of opportunity? But at this point, the bills are more proven than the Jets are, so you'd think the bills would be at 5 and the Jets would be at 6. Speaking of, they do have the number one trash talker in the league.
Starting point is 00:07:46 That is true. Josh Allen. Yeah. So you're telling me I was voted as the number one best trash talker? Coming in a number one trash talker, Josh Allen. Let's go. Josh Allen tweeted that out a couple hours ago. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday.
Starting point is 00:08:01 You know what? I don't hate the list. So we can move on to LeBron, but I saw that come across the TV screen. I'm like, you know what? Casey, of course. Baltimore, of course. NFL is high-fiving themselves for making that your kickoff game. Your two most favorite teams in the AFC play a week from tomorrow. So congratulations NFL for just, you know, striking gold again.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Yeah, I'm not mad at this. So Kansas City, Baltimore, Cincinnati with Joe Burrow. I mean, these are those of your top three. We've talked about those quarterbacks being three of the four current best, right? Then you got Houston, who was coming off a really hot year with C.J. Stroud. And I've heard people argue that they take a step back. And then I've heard other people say that they're going to win 12 plus games. So no one really knows.
Starting point is 00:08:51 That's a funny part about sports talk radio and TV. I mean, that's the part that drives me crazy. It's like no one's got a crystal ball. I mean, the funny part is when you. You see the outtakes years later of, you know, people's terrible hot takes that are as cold as ice. Who knows what the Texans are going to do? If they went 12 and 5 and C.J. Stroud lit it up. He'd be like, yeah, I get it.
Starting point is 00:09:13 If they went 8 and 9 and took a step back and he threw, you know, got a little exposed through more interceptions, you wouldn't be terribly shocked either because that division got better. The Texans had a great offseason, so I'm not sure how they take a step back. C.J. Stroud would have to fall on his face. I know. People are like, you know, the typical, well, what if people are studying the tape on them and they find the holes in his game and expose them? You know, the typical?
Starting point is 00:09:37 And nobody's talking about their defense. Look at that defense in the playoffs. And you know how we were talking about the top four quarterbacks in the league? Yesterday, who's the number five? Who's the number five? The top four are obvious. Who's the number five? Got a lot of feedback of a lot of people backing up Danny G.
Starting point is 00:09:52 With C.J. Stroud, too. Like, dude, it's him. It's him. He's him. And we'll see. And you know how I feel about D'Amico Rhyans. I think he's a hell of a coach. I love him.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I love him. No, I think Damico Rines is great. So I think they got the top five right. I think Buffalo could say, disrespect, other than Buffalo. That's sort of, I think, where we all stand. Or if you're Jacksonville fan, I don't know many of them, but you could say, no, no, hold up now.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Trevor Lawrence signed that big contract. It's time for him to prove why he was considered a generational guy that just has, as you said, matched statistically to, I know Colin does those blind comparisons. The fact that Garner Minchew and Trevor Lawrence have the same stat line over the last couple seasons, that's got a change if Trevor Lawrence wants to, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:44 be the guy that everyone thinks he could be. Yeah, Danny J. Does that fire you up as a Raiders guy that they're not even in the mix here? Well, I mean, that's not expected. Yeah, but does that make you excited? Like, well, hey, I hope they prove everybody wrong. No, at the big white meeting table in the blue kitchen here at Fox Sports Radio, we were having our pre-show meeting.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Yeah. And Tui and music were not surprised to see Nick Wright on the big screen picking the Raiders last in the AFC West. And then it was my friend Chris Brousard's turn to go, and he picked the Raiders last in the AFC West. Chris Broussard! You know, and I told those guys, if bulletin boards were still a thing, if I'm Antonio Pierce, I just put that up for the team to see. Yeah, you know, Tom Brady. Yeah, let that motivate you. Tom Brady, I love that he did admit
Starting point is 00:11:30 that they would take those things that they would hear on sports TV or radio and make it bulletin board material. Yeah, I've never seen a bulletin board before. I know. You know, I will say... It's little than our grandpappy had. Danny, it's hard to argue, though, with that division,
Starting point is 00:11:46 with everyone being so high on Jim Harbaugh and, you know, what Trump-Paeton and Bo Nix looks like that they could put together in Denver, but, you know, in the right direction. I'm intrigued about your Raiders because you're right, they do have a good defense. They're fun to watch. Antonio Pierce did get that team fired up last year.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Hey, I'll give the Raiders this. Because there's a lot of teams that stink, and I'm not watching them. The Raiders, they're projected to not be that good, but they're fun to watch those still, right? Like, I still watch the Raiders. I'm tuning in. They have a very talented squad.
Starting point is 00:12:16 They lack depth. So if any of the starters go down, that's where they get into the weeds a little bit. But the thing about the Chargers, people are basing their predictions on Harbaugh. Not the personnel. Yeah, I'm not sure if he has the right personnel yet, but he's going to get there. And one thing that was really interesting as the teams got down to 53 yesterday,
Starting point is 00:12:35 the Chargers kept seven wide receivers, which made people kind of look twice because, as you were saying on yesterday's show, Rich, people expect him to run the ball a lot. But the Chargers keeping seven receivers kind of leans towards maybe they're going to throw the ball on. Those are your top five in the AFC. Hey, Tui, music. Any of you guys watch a receiver on Netflix? I thought it was fantastic. Did you watch?
Starting point is 00:13:01 Just briefly to start. I haven't finished it. Devante Adams struck me as so generally unhappy in Las Vegas. And there were times where it was like, you know, towards the end, like, I get it. Yeah, with Antonio Pierce, it was a different story. It was a different story with Pierce and it was the QB situation. Oh, he did not. I know he was not vibe.
Starting point is 00:13:20 He did not. He didn't hide the fashion. There's two ways to look at it. he's very unhappy or he cared a lot. He didn't like Carapelow. You could tell. And I don't even think he liked Aidan O'Connell. You were like, no, they liked him.
Starting point is 00:13:33 I think he was just like, yo, I went from Aaron Rogers to this. Yeah, I, Danny knows, as he said, we were talking about it earlier. The Raiders thing is tough. It does not look like a great situation for success. And yeah, when you're a guy like Devonte Adams, who's like done it all, and wants to continue to add to his resume. I know he mostly moved to Las Vegas for personal reasons. He wanted to be more towards like the West Coast.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Him and Derek Carr were boys. But as soon as they got rid of Derek Carr, I think he was left looking around going, how did I end up here? It's like you move, you relocate. I mean, it's just not football. Nobody wants to move backwards professionally or in life. Rich, you always like to bring relationships into this.
Starting point is 00:14:20 That's like going from a 10 that you're happy with, I think a sixth that you're unsure about. Yeah, but I mean, like, I think everyone's been there personally where you might move to a city or move to a different town for your job. And then boss changes, you get let go. There's budget cuts. And you're like, all right, now I'm living in Cincinnati or why am I here? Like, you're, and I think Devante Adams, even though Vegas is cool, he's got a new kid,
Starting point is 00:14:43 he's happy. I think if Gardner Minchu doesn't get him the ball. And he didn't even like how Jimmy Groppo was passing him the ball and like, unsafe situations like throwing the ball behind them exposing him to get hit hard i think if garden inventory delivers he'll be happy otherwise i don't know how it happens but you've seen the rumors about he'll end up with arin in new york i don't know how that happens maybe you get some the rumors started because of comments erin rogers has said and put out there i can't wait to play again with him right and also people watched the first few episodes of receiver took that and ran
Starting point is 00:15:16 without finishing it because if you finish the netflix series you see okay he really loves playing for Antonio Pierce, as do all the Raiders, and he says, I was born to be a Raider. Look at my school year pictures in elementary school with my Raiders. He was born to be a Raider. So if Minshu can just be a serviceable quarterback, hit the intermediate routes and get out of the way, let the receivers and the tight ends do the work for you. Maybe your Raiders will be in the top six then. No, nobody's going to put them there, but like you said, a few minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:15:51 these things happen. Yeah, use that as fire. Light a fire under your team. Number six. If all these things happen, they might be like number 12. But the reader. You're going to eat those words if that defense steps up.
Starting point is 00:16:04 The Raiders. It did make me think of something else when I was watching Receiver. You saw when Devante Adams had the birthday party for the kid at the house. And some of the other parents are like, who is he? I was fun of funny because I went to back to school night
Starting point is 00:16:17 with my wife last night. Our kids elementary school. You know, Was it like open house, parent teacher, the school year started? Was Thornton Mellon there or no? Back to school, a good one. Do you think parents fake it when there's a celebrity or athlete at school, like pretending they don't know them?
Starting point is 00:16:34 Or do you think a lot of times? Like, if you're a teacher and you have Devont Adams kid in your class, I think football it's possible because they're in helmets and uniforms all the time, but you know they're massive and big, so they're probably somebody. But I do believe that some of these parents, don't know who he is. What does he do? He's obviously a professional athlete, right?
Starting point is 00:16:56 They see him. But I do believe that. We interviewed people before and we're like, who is this guy? Because we didn't recognize him like outside of the uniform. I saw Kim Kardashian post. Like, I can't believe my kids in first grade. I'm thinking, there's no way any teacher in that school is not like,
Starting point is 00:17:12 yo, that's Kim in Kanye's kid or something. They're like on a different level of pop culture fame. Well, I would say the difference with Devante Adams. He's in Taco Bell commercials. He's got a Taco Bell in his house. And I do love a good Gordita Crunch. All right. Well, hey, that's, I just want to bring that up.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Do I pretend? You just treat them like normal people. I don't pretend. Every once in a while, you'll see somebody famous here in Los Angeles and, you know, you freaked out when you saw Mr. T. Yeah, Rich, you were the guy that were all pumped about it. I was sitting at a diner two weeks ago with my wife on a Friday morning. Mr. T.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Clubber Lang himself rolls up into Morts, which is a little It's like a diner in Tarzana, California. You mean he doesn't have like a lifetime supply of Mr. T cereal to eat? And he's like, hey, I'll have a scribbled egg sandwich fool. And I said, oh man, you that chumper who I had to come from? And I said, I thought he
Starting point is 00:18:03 pitted a fool that didn't eat his cereal. I said, Mr. Tee, legend. Hey, have a good day, man. And he's like, and I was like, Clubber Lang in the flesh. He was so kind. He's like, you made my day. No one bothered Mr. Tate. I didn't bother him. I just said hi. I mean, as you know, I teach youoka. Spot.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Hi spot. Hi, spot. And I once had Jennifer Lawrence come in to take my class. But she was probably pervy and like positioning her and stuff. But no, but she's like an A-list actor. She used a fake name when she came in. So I had to pretend the entire time like, Oh, hi, Barbara.
Starting point is 00:18:34 I don't know who you are and I can't acknowledge who you are, but you're taking my class. It's like you're the most recognizable actors right now. Jennifer Lawrence is pretend. Barbara Johnson. I thought it was Joey Lawrence. I didn't tell you you look like, uh, That's pretty funny.
Starting point is 00:18:50 That's funny, man. That is funny. All right. So thank you guys for hanging out with us. That's your top five. We got to talk LeBron. It basically goes like this. Think about it.
Starting point is 00:19:02 He said that he doesn't want to be called dad on the court. Take a listen. Cannot call me dad in the workplace. Once we leave out of the private facility and the gates close, I could be dad again. In a car, if we ride together, at home, I could be dad. no he got to call me like two three or brine or you know goat if he wants to
Starting point is 00:19:25 it's up to him I mean he that's up to him I have some thoughts share yours on that too again 8774484 3 4374 the herd we'll do that next your thoughts on dad a.k. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:22:45 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.

Starting point is 00:25:44 Sweatshire weather. Nice. So we're talking LeBron. But before we do that, let me tell you a quick little story that sort of backs up what's going on here, I think. Yeah. Nobody wants to be feeling like the old guy.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Nobody wants to be like, oh, he's the old guy at the club. It's the old guy at the club. No one wants to be, you know, that guy are made to be feeling that way. and, you know, I'm very close in age with my uncle Joe. So it's my mom's younger brother, right?
Starting point is 00:26:16 They're Mexican, so there's a lot of kids involved. So it's my mom's younger brother. He's significantly younger than my mom, but he's my uncle. So we would go out on the prow. Back in the day, we would get involved. That's what he would say. It's get involved. Yo.
Starting point is 00:26:31 But keep in mind. We get involved tonight. That meant we were going out to the bar, maybe meet a few ladies, have some fun, you don't know, right? Keep in mind the age difference because it's your mom's younger bro. Let's say he was 30-something and you were in your 20s. Exactly, right? So we could go out and have a good time.
Starting point is 00:26:48 But there was a rule in place and he would be, he called me Bayo Babe. That's just my nickname in the family. Hey, oh, babe. Because I hit home runs like Babe Ruth. That's why. That's why. I know, actually because I ate hot dogs like Babe Ruth. That was a hot dog king.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Ayo, babe. when we go out your cousin I'm not Uncle Joe I'm your cousin got that everyone in my group of friends the girls we'd hang with
Starting point is 00:27:20 they all thought he was my cousin because when we went out that was it he's my cousin yeah your cousin Joe I'm like he's not really my cousin my uncle but that's just how we rolled
Starting point is 00:27:29 to not make him feel like the old guy so I understand where LeBron is coming from LeBron says to Brony hey when we're playing you call me
Starting point is 00:27:40 two three here's what he said cannot call me dad in the workplace once we leave out of the private facility and the gates closed I could be dad again
Starting point is 00:27:50 in the car if we ride together at home I could be dad no he got to call me like two three or Brian or you know goat if he wants to
Starting point is 00:28:00 that's up to him I mean it's up to him no we've talked about this when Brani got drafted by the Lakers it never dawned on me the amazing trash talking
Starting point is 00:28:12 that will take place anytime something happens to Broadway like yo go tell you daddy there's going to be so much great trash talking we look at it as a some people who are like nepotism he doesn't belong other people are saying
Starting point is 00:28:25 what a beautiful story father son we've yet to talk about what amazing trash talk potential there is here there hasn't been a father's son combo like this since me and my dad when I would go to work with him as a kid my dad he ran a vending route right this is a true story and i want your feedback because we have a thought on this okay again 8774 the herd my dad would bring me to work on his vending route he'd be taking me
Starting point is 00:28:49 all these factories and all these weird places where he had soda machines and i'd be there with my pumpkin pie haircut right and i look very Hispanic my dad's an italian guy you look like when you were kid you looked like tattoo from fantasy island almost identical so imagine tattoo de plain boss de plain That's me, right? Little white tuxedo on and everything. I'd be helping my dad carrying cases of soda to whatever place he was filling up because he had the vending route. And I would go to work with him and it was so embarrassing.
Starting point is 00:29:20 No one ever really thought he was my dad because he's a very Italian-looking guy and I was a very Hispanic-looking kid. So they always thought like I was his hired help. And they would say, oh, you brought a little helper with you. And I'm like, no, he's my dad. dad. He's my papa. And they're like, oh, hey, you brought your little helper? I was always the little helper.
Starting point is 00:29:43 And so my point is, on the flip side, Brony never wants to be looked at like he's the little helper. Let me tell you, that was the weakest feeling ever. I'm like, no, I'm here because that's my dad. And there's no shame in that. And I bring that up because LeBron didn't have any problem with ever saying, I got to give Tui the props here. He never had problems saying, I want to play with my son.
Starting point is 00:30:08 We can have endless sound bites of play with my son, play with my son, play with my son, play with my son. But he has a problem being called dad? So that's where there's some hypocrisy there. You know, if LeBron has any sort of issue about being the old guy, Covino, as your cousin or slash uncle. Cousin Joe. No, there's no women around. He's my uncle Joe. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:30:30 He should start with some color in that being. in that right? Can I get it, amen? Because he's letting that white take over as we saw on the Olympics, and I guess he wants to look like the matured dude on the wisdom. Yeah, I got a lot of wisdom. I don't like that look. It's a young man's game.
Starting point is 00:30:48 I get it. It's a young man's game so he doesn't want to be looked at like dad, right? But I'm with you. Get the Just for Men. Dye that beard. The beard is weird. No play for Mr. Gray. We know the deal.
Starting point is 00:30:59 I agree with Danny G completely on that. We'll tell you that. Emmett Smith or Keith Hernandez. Both. Both. And again, that adds to the hypocrisy of what he's saying. You know, does Brani want to be called Brani? Then, you know, stop referring to me as your son.
Starting point is 00:31:12 I'm Brani then. Can't go both ways. There's going to be a lot of great trash talking. I think it's that that's the story we've neglected that. Think about it. Think of all the veterans and people that are going to, you know, bust chops as far as that goes. If there's, you know, if they lose a game or there's, you know,
Starting point is 00:31:29 there's miscommunication on the court. If he starts yelling at Brony, then it's like, yo, your daddy's yelling at you. Like there's going to be, because you've seen LeBron Barkett teammates. Is he going to be having that attitude towards his son? Yeah, I understand. We can't play dumb and pretend like we don't understand that. He's trying to set the ground rules of, you know, when they're on the court, it's just business.
Starting point is 00:31:52 You know, they're just teammates at that point. So there's no favoritism. There's no father's son. They're just teammates at that point. But again, the whole thing, what makes it a beautiful story, is that it is father's son. Do you refer to your parents ever by their first names to other people? I've never called my parents.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Oh, that's a weird thing. Mom and Dad. Every in my life. So everyone was like, are you adopted? Like, no, that's my mom and dad. The truth of it was... I asked the wrong person. You're the one person on planet Earth that never called their parents mom and dad.
Starting point is 00:32:21 But it goes with the story. The first time you're called Dad. Not in the bedroom, Rich. I'm talking about, you know, when you're actually a dad. Daddy? Yeah, when you're actually dad. It sort of hits you like, wow, I am. I'm a dad now.
Starting point is 00:32:34 It makes you feel a little older. Like, oh, I'm a dad now. My parents had me when they were like 21. So mom and dad to them just sounded like an old person thing. And they felt too young for that. And when you're a kid, no one ever told me to call him that. So what do I know? You don't instinctively pop out and be like,
Starting point is 00:32:53 Dad, Da! No one told me that. You're the one baby that never said Mama and Dad? Never, ever. Still to this day. I refer to them when I'm talking to my siblings as mom and dad. But I never called them mom and dad ever Because they were young when they had me So if you ask my mom, she'd be like, It's like we grew up together
Starting point is 00:33:11 I'm like, well mom slow down. You're in your 60s 70s maybe, I don't even know So yeah, I never did that That's the truth to answer your question I know it sounds a little odd Yeah, very odd But hey, LeBron James Bronny James, this will be a fun storyline
Starting point is 00:33:28 That we didn't even think about So your thoughts at Covino and Rich Now it's time for some herd line news. Let's do it. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, guys, go from the NBA to the NFL.
Starting point is 00:33:46 We talked about this yesterday. ESPN polled over 100 current NFL players anonymously. And one of the categories was, biggest trash talker at quarterback. Well, Josh Allen brought home that top spot. And now Josh Allen has responded on Twitter. Just a bit of go. Here's what he said.
Starting point is 00:34:04 So you're telling me I was voted number one best trash talker. Let's go. I love it. You know what? What do you want that? That's a cool. That's a cool list to be number one. How many O's in the Let's go?
Starting point is 00:34:16 Six. Yeah, I think six. Oh, he leaned into that. It's more like less cool. Yeah. To owning the title. Good for him. I think it's cool.
Starting point is 00:34:26 It's interesting to me that he was surprised by that. I wonder if he was aware that he was a big trash talk. You know, like, oh, really? I didn't know. I'm trying to blank. Who was the quarterback that was super polite? Like, it was Philip Rivers. Like, every time he got hit, he's like, great hit, man.
Starting point is 00:34:40 No, no. He was one of those, like, country boy trash talkers. Andrew Luck, I think. Yeah. I love that subconscious. Like, it makes the guys not want to hit you that hard. Because Philip Rivers was a trashdard. But he had, like, a specific way about it.
Starting point is 00:34:54 Yeah. So, yeah, and then the other thing we pointed out yesterday was Josh Allen also voted most overrated. So perhaps a connection there between all that trash talk and also people thinking that he's overrated. And we talked before. Buffalo's not in the top five in the AFC as far as, you know, Vegas to make it to the Super Bowl. So maybe he's going to play with a little chip on his shoulder this year. Overrated.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Teams not in the top five. He's a trash talker. So watch out for Josh Allen. Josh Allen, here we go. All right. We'll stay in the NFL. The 49ers still without Brandon Ayyuk and Trent Williams. due to some contract issues ahead of their week one matchup against the Jets.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Now, what are the Jets preparing for? Well, let's take a listen to their head coach Robert Sullen what he has to say about the situation. Fully expect those two. Fully expect Trent Williams to walk on the field and still be his all-pro self with a newly minted contract, I'm sure. But in IUC, I'm sure he'll be there. I'll say this, with or without him, there's still a championship roster. And, you know, they've got some dudes all over the roster. it's going to be a fun game. Great country. It can be a great challenge.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Robert Sala expects both IUK and Williams to be back, Rich. I guess that's good news for you. Trent Williams way more important. I mean, what, less than two weeks, Monday night, at home? I said it yesterday. I don't want it to be a Chief's scenario from last year where, if you remember, they didn't sign Chris Jones. Lost week one and they're like, sign Chris Jones. Signed Trent Williams. We were talking about that noise that could be in the Chief's Way. Right? You don't need all that extra noise. The 49ers don't need all that extra noise. That's true. Yeah, it's kind of annoying to start the season off that way.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I'll say this. If they are without Williams and Iuke to start the season, it is interesting. The Jets, even despite all the issues they had last year, they were super competitive against the Chiefs, and it was Mahomes' second worst game all season. So, I... There's something I love, Ryan, and that is 49ers minus three and a half.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Because I think if they do get these two guys signed, that seems like a gift of a line. You might say, oh, you got the hook to half a point. It's Monday night, first game of the season. At home, I know the Jets got high hopes, but the 49ers at home, week one, if Trent Williams and Iook are signed, three and a half. I like to pick the number of my head before I look at the spread to see where my mind was at. And I'm like, what, Niners, five, six and a half. three and a half? Buy a half a point.
Starting point is 00:37:34 I love it. I love it. There you go. All right. Wrap up with this. Pango's wide receiver, Jamar Chase, has returned to practice and is prepared to play week one versus the Patriots. Chase, of course, was a hold-in throughout training camp and hopes for a new contract. Teams made it pretty clear. They think he's great.
Starting point is 00:37:50 They love having him, but currently sides cannot agree on a new deal. So he still has this current year, next year's fifth year option. And then, of course, the franchise tag, if that were. to eventually come into play. So, Jamar Chase, back into the fold for the Bengals. But unlike C.D. Lamb does not have that new contract in place just yet. You know, you ever see that Jerry Seinfeld bit where he says when he's scuba diving, all you're thinking the whole time is like, don't die, don't die, don't die.
Starting point is 00:38:17 When you're a wide receiver that's elite now, you've got to just be thinking like, don't get hurt, don't get hurt. The money being given to wide receivers, like, Jamar Chase is thinking like, come on, let's get this done. Yeah. He'll get 30-something mill a year for sure. Yeah, and the Bengals have sort of talked about this where they didn't feel as though the sides were particularly close
Starting point is 00:38:37 on a new deal for this offseason. And they have the franchise tag on T. Higgins. This feels like they're like, this season, we're going directly at the Chiefs one more time. And then after that, like, okay, we'll see what we have to do. Probably going to have to let T. Higgins go. We're going to have to pay Jemar, so we'll give Jemar that big deal. It'll probably surpass Justin Jefferson if he stays healthy
Starting point is 00:38:58 and then kind of rebuild from there. Perfect. Thank you, Ryan. Thank you. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News. Now I know, Kavino.
Starting point is 00:39:11 You love bobbleheads. I'm kidding. That's why I chose you as a co-os. So tonight, all the rage out here in Southern California, Otani Bumblehead Night, last year, like, people were fighting over these. Not that there's not already fights at Dodger Stadium with fans, but the Otani
Starting point is 00:39:28 Bobblehead caused an extra hour of traffic last time. Earlier this season. They're doing it again. Second round right now and there were more adults fighting over for these things than there were kids.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Honestly, I think we're going to upset some people here because this is ridiculous. Bobbleheads, stadium giveaways, Otani, we'll get to all of it plus some more NFL. We'll talk about drinking on the job
Starting point is 00:39:52 a la some Tessator Jesse Palmer last week. So, More next. Kavino and Rich In for Colin On the herd. Be sure to catch live editions
Starting point is 00:40:01 of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS1 and the IHeard Radio app. Polly Fusco here
Starting point is 00:40:09 with Tony Fuscoe. Yo, as everybody knows we're the host of the award-winning Polly and Tony Fusco show. Yeah. But instead of us telling you how great we are,
Starting point is 00:40:17 here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on our show. Quick, knowledgeable, and funny, opinionated. Whoa, whoa, whoa. What are you doing? You're interrupting us?
Starting point is 00:40:25 out promo. Yeah. He wasn't talking about you. You took those clips totally out of context. Oh yeah? Well, after this promo, I'm going to take you out and beat you. Let me put this into context. Shut up. Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Folly and Tony Fusco show on IHard Radio, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Yeah. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman, documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clipper Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions.
Starting point is 00:41:25 my journey from basketball to college football or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars. fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when He said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:42:58 What the hell does George Bush got to do a little camp? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:43:16 To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all right. But just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:35 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite things. Therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month,
Starting point is 00:43:57 I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:44:22 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Good one, Tony. Covino and Rich. That's us. Who are these guys? It's the CNR show in for Colin on the herd, and we just discovered J-Lab headphones.
Starting point is 00:45:03 I got my box. Got mine right here. I got mine right here. Which one do you have? The better ones? I call dibs on the better ones. I have the hybrid ANCs. I got the flex open wireless earbuds.
Starting point is 00:45:13 Hell yeah. No one wants to see you flex. Yeah, we just discovered J-Lab headphones, and we know Collins hooked. For his most recent East Coast trip, Colin used the J-Buds, Lux, over-ear noise-canceling headphones. Find the blue box. Nice blue box right here at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and more.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Or simply visit jaylab.com. These are nice. Can't wait to try them out. Again, I'm Steve Covino from Union, New Jersey, home of the world's tallest watersphere and me. That's Rich Davis, Franklin Square, Long Island. We're out here in the Valley, live from the Marios of Los Angeles, of Los Angeles with Danny G. Spot,
Starting point is 00:45:51 Tewian Music. Ryan's here. Thank you guys for hanging out with us. Again, the number, 877-484-3437-S-877 for the herd. Now, Rich, we're going to continue talking about bobbleheads, right? Yeah. But coming up next hour,
Starting point is 00:46:09 midweek major, the biggest stories in sports and pop culture, and drinking on the job. Yeah. And, of course, some more NFL biggest can't get enough. Right, yeah, exactly. Ryan and Fresno wants to talk real quick about drinking on the job. He's been on hold forever. Oh, damn.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Let's go to Ryan. Yeah. What's up, Ryan? Hey, it's Brian, actually, from Fresno. Oh, what's up, Brian? What's up? Brian. Brian.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Wide leaders of nonsense. That's us. Your brother from out here in California. What up? I listened to the show in the afternoons, but I got a drinking on the job story for you. Let's hear it. Yeah, during my summers in college, way back when, for three summers, I had a job at a major brewery. and every 15-minute break and every lunch break we got,
Starting point is 00:46:53 this whole staff of guys would come up to the break room, and they had a fridge just fully stocked with all of our product. And there was no holds barred, man. You could drink as much as you want during your break, and these guys would come in here on a 15-minute break, and they'd be shotgunning and hook-shot in their empties into the garbage, and it was a full-on frat party in the break room. Let me tell you, how unproductive and how many beer gutts?
Starting point is 00:47:18 imagine every day during your breaks beer. Dude, the second he said, No holds barn, I just thought of Hulk Hogan and I was in Zeus and I sort of, no, I'm just kidding. Brian, thank you so much for getting us started on that. We're talking about that next hour, drinking on the job. Is it a good thing? Are we headed there where it becomes a normal sort of thing?
Starting point is 00:47:39 We'll explain because it's happening in sports. But right now, we got to get into this bobblehead conversation. We've talked about it in the past. It's ridiculous. We're out here in Los Angeles, like we said. And I'm sure there's a lot of people in LA that woke up this morning. And they're like, yes. Today's the day.
Starting point is 00:47:56 It's Bobblehead Day. And I have to ask, respectfully, of course, how old are you? I just don't get it. I understand the value. I guess this is our Collins sort of thing where he hates people with backwards hats. I don't understand bobblehead obsession. I just don't. I understand that this has X amount of.
Starting point is 00:48:17 value and you want to get it and sell it on eBay. There were some rare Otani bobbleheads from the previous run that they had the gray road jersey on. They misprinted some on purpose and the ones with Otani and the gray Los Angeles road jersey are
Starting point is 00:48:33 online right now. People are bidding like tens of thousands of dollars. Right. There's nothing lame about 10 Gs if you can make it somehow. So money and all that but to collect them, to obsess over them, to take one from a kid, you're an adult.
Starting point is 00:48:48 You're no better than that guy who's getting autographs in front of the little kid who deserves one. You know what I mean? Like, because they always say the first 18,000 or whatever. Last week was that Soto figurine day in New York. That's my favorite thing about the Juan Soto figurine is that any time they advertised it at Yankee Stadium, when the umpire would stand up,
Starting point is 00:49:09 he'd cover the F-I-G. Yeah. So it said Soto-Urinite. Yeah. Instead of figurine. Yeah. So, you know, we're manned boys. We thought that was fun.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Of course I did. I'm a child. There's so many levels, right? Because only the first 18,000 get one. What's the process there? You know, do you have to run around to another entrance and find where they have more inventory? And why only the first 18,000? Like, you're going to sponsor something.
Starting point is 00:49:36 Agreed. Why not let every kid get one? And this is what caused the major pile up around Dodger Stadium the last time Otani had a bobblehead night. People are fighting? Yes, because Dodger's. Dodger fans across Southern California are getting out of their job at 2.30, 3 p.m. today to get to the stadium first. But not everybody can be first, obviously. So there was an extra pile up for an hour and a half, CHP said around Dodger Stadium getting in last time.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Now, I don't want to talk out of both sides of my mouth, but I'll try. Right. Right. So let me try to do this real quick. Look, I don't understand the obsession. I don't care. I don't collect them. but I do love free thanks right so if I'm there and everybody has one and I don't or even worse all the kids are there
Starting point is 00:50:23 and I got my Otani bobblehead and your kid didn't that sort of sets such a terrible tone you're already overpaying for everything there right you don't get the free bobblehead because you weren't there on time or whatever the case is that in itself
Starting point is 00:50:40 is a story but then for you to then take it and sell it I want to punch you in the face then for you to talk about it and brag about it and collect these things. I also want to karate kick you. So adults and their bobbleheads, are we alone on this? Do you love them?
Starting point is 00:50:56 Do you secretly frown on people that obsess over these things? Do you throw it in the same category, Rich, as just like toys for an adult? It's the same as collecting action figures. Some do it. I won't judge because we all got our own thing. But if you want my honest opinion,
Starting point is 00:51:13 I think it's sort of weird. I'll tell you this, if you're a single guy, it's not going to help you with the ladies. You know what? In fact, I'll give it a George Foreman guarantee. No woman. No woman has ever said, oh my God, I'm so hot. Have you seen his bobblehead collection? You know how like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:27 You know how like no man has ever said? I'm not getting it with that girl. Have you seen her eyelashes? Because you don't really care about that stuff, right? A woman does not care about your bobblehead collection. I don't think there's any woman under the moon that would care about that. You don't think a woman's ever said the following sentence? any has the throwback Fernando Valenzuela.
Starting point is 00:51:45 Oh my God. No woman has ever said that. Listen, but we all collect different things, so I don't want to be that much of a, you know, a jerk. But I have a couple thoughts. I run out of that. Number one. True, we all have our dumb things.
Starting point is 00:51:57 Number one. Yeah. It's been said before, but I'm piling on. Why not everyone? Why not everyone? Why not everyone? Especially kids. Or why not every kid under 13?
Starting point is 00:52:09 You don't want to print more. at your 3D printer, how much does it cost to make a bobblehead? If you're sponsoring a night at Dodger Stadium, give everyone a bobblehead. Stop trying to create this sense of urgency because now you've got traffic. Imagine telling your kid.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Imagine you have like a 12-year-old son. Crying kids? A little kid. Yeah, but you're 10-year-old and you're like, buddy, we're going to the Dodgers game tonight. Otani Bobblehead Night. You get there, and there's none left. You know why? Because some old guy like hoarded four of them. Like, it's just ridiculous. Everyone should get one.
Starting point is 00:52:42 That's pathetic. Dude, it's Dodger Stadium. Billion dollar industry. Sponsors need to step it up and say, we're going to make sure we have one for every kid. I'm not saying like every kid deserves a trophy. It's a giveaway. Every kid does deserve the giveaway at a stadium.
Starting point is 00:52:56 When you're paying the prices for tickets, Dodger dogs, beer prices, everything. Everyone should get one. And if you don't do that and you say, no, that's not how it works. You need to find a way to distribute these because it can't be like, we're going to give a crate of 2,000 down the left field line,
Starting point is 00:53:11 2000 down the right field line. Or it comes with the ticket when you buy it. Like you might, right? The first 18,000 they purchased that ticket. They've started that. Yeah, it has to be that way. Petco Park that do that. Well, guess what? Yeah, props to them because not every stadium does that. It should be linked to the barcode. I agree. And you know what? We'll take your feedback on this next. Plus, we'll get to midweek major and more. C&R. In for Colin on the herd. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
