Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to SportsSlic on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:34 And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. I'm Akela Hughes, and Rebel Spirit, season two, is about both of those things. As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority of black city. which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Every family has its secrets.
Starting point is 00:02:12 But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. Is everyone lying to me about who they are? I felt such desperation. I felt it was what I had to do. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And don't forget, after the show, if you miss any of it, Danny G puts up the podcast, the best of. And we got our bonus pod today where we said we're going to pay a little tribute
Starting point is 00:03:32 to Gene Hackman and go over the best fictional coaches of all time, our video pod on the Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel in about an hour. We'll also talk some baseball because we're pretty hyped about that. But later on this show, Travis Kelsey, we'll get to that, some NFL and more. But every Thursday, we get you involved 87799 on Fox at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. If you want to chime in on social media, we reminisce, we throw it back. And we got some crappy news that Hooters, in theory was always great. I was never a big Hooters guy, but in theory is fantastic.
Starting point is 00:04:12 It wasn't really big on the East Coast. You grew up in Jersey. I grew up in New York. It wasn't a big deal. The rest of the country. After work, though, once in a while, we would go. You know, we would go after work. It was a good, like, meeting spot.
Starting point is 00:04:24 But you would think, like I said, that that business model was a no fail. They announced bankruptcy. Maybe it'll be saved. I don't know. They also said Joanne's this week. week, the Arts and Crafts Place, going down. So a lot of the places we grew up with are gone. Like, did you ever think Sears would go away?
Starting point is 00:04:41 I would have never thought that. Once Roebuck said farewell. No, but seriously, like Sears. You know, and I mentioned that just recently, Rainforest Cafe, they're hanging on by a thread. They just closed down one of the most iconic locations in New Jersey. And there's one left in Atlantic City. I'm sure there's a few here and there,
Starting point is 00:04:59 but they're hanging by a string by a thread. That being said, we ask you, Fox Sports Radio Nation. Let's throw up back and reminisce on those national chains that we all remember that are no longer here. Stores that we miss. Do you think you could buy one of those animatronic alligators somewhere from Rainforest Cafe? Go for it, man. But speaking of anatromics, I'll kick it off. Everybody remembers Chucky Cheese.
Starting point is 00:05:21 It's still around. Right. But before that, there was a place and it was magical. And it was all over the country. And I used to go there as a kid, as an 80s kid. anytime there was arcades and pizza involved, I wanted to go. And that place, this magical memory for me that I miss. And it's not that I miss it because I miss my childhood and I want to go back,
Starting point is 00:05:44 but I wish I could have shared these things with my kid, but they no longer exist, really. Showbiz Pizza Place. Do you guys remember that? I'm old enough that I went there before it turned to Chuckie Cheese. Chuckie Cheese ended up buying it out, but their animatronics were full-body animatronics. Billy Bob.
Starting point is 00:06:00 And the whole premise was Billy Bob. and fats and the rockafire explosion. They were a band, Rich. So you were going there to watch like a show and a performance. Like they were rocking out while you were eating pizza and then run into the arcade. The ball pan. Yeah, dude, I loved it. My mom took us to the McDonald's playground.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Yeah, the playland? Yeah, but the NG, you don't understand how it had to beg. We had to beg our parents back then, right? Now we're such suckers with our kids. So I miss that. I'll start up by saying show biz pizza place. Missed that place. I'll hit you up with one.
Starting point is 00:06:36 The pizza tasted just like the Chucky Cheese pizza, though. And it was not great pizza. I loved it as a kid. They've improved their pizza. I went to a party for my nephew a couple months back. Pizza better now at Chucky Cheese. Good job. But their animatronics, we're always weak at Chuckie.
Starting point is 00:06:50 It's what Hooters should have done. They should have improved their food. You said to like gronk there for a second, pizza better. These days, pizza better. Hooters, it is shocking that you would think, good looking women, tight t-shirts. Food, you know, sports on. Like, it had the business model and they had money and they made money.
Starting point is 00:07:09 As I told you. Tucky, tacky yet unrefined. My wife, their silky panty hose and those leg warmers they wore. What are they going to do with all those white puffy socks now? Yeah, I know. My wife worked at Hooters when she was in college, and she actually won Miss Hooters International. Your winner of the 12th annual Miss Hooters, international swimsuit pageant is
Starting point is 00:07:34 number one 10 Sarah. Name the voice of the announcement. No, but I think people will be like her name is hoots. Real name. Yeah. And she worked in hooters.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Chris Rose. Chris Rose. And by the way, money gig. I did that for like five years. It was the, they, so they had money at one point because I remember being like, what are you going to pay my houses? Yeah, maybe Chris Rose is why they're going bankrupt.
Starting point is 00:08:00 I remember he was getting paid. I remember thinking like, you know, they got money. It was always on like, like Fox Sports or ESPN or Spike TV. They would always televise that pageant. And guess why I got replaced by? I did it five years and around. They're like, sorry, we're going with someone else.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Arsenio Hall. Oh, man. Who, who, who, who. I was like, guys, I don't have a dog pound. I guess I lose this one. Could have at least got replaced by Steve Harvey. Or at least by Randy Watson. So, bump to see Hooters go.
Starting point is 00:08:29 Before we go to all the feedback, I'm going to throw one out there. I won't be like I was Sam in List 10. I'm kidding, Sam. Yeah, leave some pizza for the rest of us, Sam. kidding, buddy. If you're a homeowner or you remember buying stuff for your apartment after college and you were like trying to be a big boy, there's a couple. Bedbeth and Beyond, you would have those coupons that were like 20% off and you'd
Starting point is 00:08:51 always have one like that your mom would leave your apartment for you. I can't believe that they don't exist anymore. Bedbeth and Beyond gone. And I'm going to throw out another name. You might even forget they even existed. Remember linens and things? Of course I remember linens and things. All those, like, home stores that you'd go to buy all the stuff you needed for your college dorm or, you know, your new apartment. Yeah, I got my first big boy apartment. Let me go buy bath towels and a toothbrush holder at linens and things. Before we go to the phones, though, Rich, again, 87799 on Fox at Covino and Rich.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Let's take some accountability and say, yeah, we could miss these places all we want, but we're to blame here. because if our lazy asses weren't going to Amazon, which changed everything, a lot of these places would still be here. So, you know, we got to say that we're the problem. That's partially true, but it's also about money management and how you make strategic decisions. It's me. Hi, I'm the problem. It's Steve.
Starting point is 00:09:48 I'm not going to Circuit City, dude. I'm buying it online. But they have to respond to that, though. They have to, like, be like, okay, we're just to put us up online. You know, businesses could have pivoted, but Amazon wiped out so many. And again, our new habits and our new way. world of the world is what wiped a lot of these places out. I know it's not a store, but I thought this way when, remember when they made the
Starting point is 00:10:09 announcement a couple years back, like, we're going to discontinue Twinkies? And everyone was like, what do you mean? You can't discontinue Twinkies? And I remember asking everyone, well, when was the last time you had a Twinkie? And everyone's answer was like, I don't know, a decade or so? Well, there you go. You're the blame here. You can't expect some of this stick around if you're not going there or consuming the product.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Let's start with you guys. And Danny, I would say, I want everyone to think of some more. Josh, you started off in Ohio. Those discontinued those stores that shut down. What do you got? Hey, happy Thursday, guys. I hope it finds well. Thanks.
Starting point is 00:10:46 So as a four-year-old in the late 80s in Dayton, Ohio, there was no bigger thrill than walking into a children's palace. And it seemed like the toys were from the floor to the ceiling. My older brother got his first cobra commander there. I don't know if you guys had that where you live, but I believe it in turn became Toys R Us later on. Well, not only Toys R Us and the one you mentioned, Children's Palace. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Toys R Us lives in like in a kiosk form. It doesn't even really exist anymore. They're trying to make a comeback. But, I mean, who would have thought Toys R Us would be gone? I remember my mom waiting early in the morning, as a great mom did in the 80s or 90s, to try to get me a Nintendo game for my birthday or something. at KB Toys
Starting point is 00:11:31 Oh yeah They could be a kid Popular in the mall Or not that's Chuck E cheese And you know Also in the mall Orange Julius Was a hot spot
Starting point is 00:11:42 That's a good one Danny Still in Burbank by the way And one last thing about Burbank California They opened up a Toys R Us A big store It used to be a Kmart Everybody was so excited
Starting point is 00:11:53 As they were putting the store front up Turns out it was for a movie They were filming No way really? Oh that's so You have it. We can't go in. Oh, that's sad, dude. All right. Don't want to steal all the pizza.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Who's next? Tom, in Florida. Tom, what store shut down? What's up, man? Every Friday and Saturday night to late night. I miss Beneggans. Beneges was on point in the 90s. Dude, I miss Benegins.
Starting point is 00:12:21 I got to say this, but. Camino worked there forever. That was my last job before radio. They sent Covino to college. I can't tell you how many Turquio tools I served, how many samplers. The Health Club chicken platter for the win, dude. Their nachos, their honey mustard. Their sampler was fantastic.
Starting point is 00:12:39 I loved working there. I had a great experience there. I miss it as well because they had a great bar with over 100 beers on tap. And, dude, it was a scene. I loved it. It was that Benegans Friday's Chili's, Appelby's scene. It was that level of restaurant. Hoolahans.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Chotchkees on the walls. We talked about this briefly when they announced. what earlier last year that they're going to reopen one Chi-Chi's. Yes. And listen, I think some of these may come back in one-off pop-up type of situations. Because the nostalgia generation. People want that Monte Cristo. Yeah, they'll thirst for it.
Starting point is 00:13:21 So I wouldn't be shocked if they're like, hey, we're going to do a Ben against pop-up in a few big cities. You used to love that. And if you guys don't know the reference, if you guys remember the movie Waiting with Dane Cook and Ryan Reynolds. They worked at a place called Shananigans, and it was a parody on Benigans. Let's go to Tripp. What a great guy in Vegas. Hey, Tripp.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Hey, guys. It's always great to hear to speak with you all. Hey, buddy. Danny Gee took the one. I was going to say, Orange Julius. But a couple more would be a sharper image is online. But Radio Shot used to be fun in the mall when you were a kid because during Christmas you could go play with all the electric
Starting point is 00:13:58 cars. They would let you run them all over the mall. If you needed a wire or remote control car? Yeah, Radio Shack was your spot. That's a good one trip. And you know what? Kavino and I worked at Sirius XM in the early days of satellite radio. And Radio Shack was the one place that had like the early satellite radio. That's right. For the plug-in plays or whatever you needed, any component. When we were little kids, they had the free battery cards. We'd go in and get a free battery and they would cut a little hole out of the card. You know what? I saw a story about Radio Shack. Doesn't like Nick Cannon own them? I think they might be like one or
Starting point is 00:14:28 somebody owns it. There's only a couple. There's only a couple. There's only a couple. There's only a couple left. I'm pretty sure. I'm going to look that up right now. I mean, that was the spot if you needed anything. Let's go to Marcel in Los Angeles. You're on with Kavino & Rich. What's up, bud? Restaurant, but a blockbuster, definitely going there on Friday and Saturdays on the weekend when you're getting out of school with your parents. You know, you're so right on, Marcel. It's an obvious answer that no one said yet,
Starting point is 00:14:57 so thank you, my friend. Blockbuster, Hollywood video, whatever your spot was. I wonder if we glorify it because the reality is, You love sitting on your lazy ass just going through our Hulu, Netflix, Amazon. It wasn't even that, right? HBO Max. It was the experience of it. I said it was Foreplay. Yeah, the new releases.
Starting point is 00:15:16 You would go that you would rent the video game for the kid in your family just to keep them out of your hair so you could squeeze some cheeks watching a movie with whoever you were with. Like if your girlfriend had a little brother, you got him a video game. Get him out of your hair. Get him out of your face. It was like the ramp up to a great night. Yeah, that was it. You see some local people that you knew there.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Hey, what's up, John? They'd sell candy and microwave popcorn at the counter. You get some sour jacks. They all had that same smell when you walked in. You know what? In the Blockbuster documentary, they described that smell. It was a combination of wet carpet from like just so many people walking through with like soppy sneakers combined with plastic from all the cases and popcorn.
Starting point is 00:16:00 So it was popcorn, dirty carpet, and plastic. And it had a specific smell. But Blockbuster Video, I'm telling you, the ultimate foreplay. If you were a teenager or a college kid, let's go pick out a movie. You and your girl would hold hands, start at the A's, work you weighted the Z's, new releases. And you're right, Kavino. I always remember they had sour jacks instead of Sour Patch Kids. I always wanted to rent Blacula, and I never did.
Starting point is 00:16:27 I remember always wanting to rent Barb Wire with Pam Anderson. Oh, me too, yeah. By the way, I looked it up for Tripp. Nick Cannon was named the CEO for Radio Shack. in 2020. I don't know. Is that an honorary title? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:16:41 He's busy with 35 kids, so I don't know how that worked out. Maybe they'll stay in business if he buys them all the remote control car. He can just employ them at all, though. Seriously. They can be all these employees. These are stores that we miss. Stores. Based on the Hooters and Joanne's News.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Stores. Who do we got? Let's say how to Todd in Michigan. Hi, Todd's the coolest. You doing today. Hey, buddy. What's up, man? You don't mention Chi-G
Starting point is 00:17:07 That was a big, big place for us to go up in the mid-80s That's probably so much to do Because of the green onion scandal No, no, Todd's underwater I'll see if I can get a better connection Todd? All I heard was green onion scandal What?
Starting point is 00:17:22 Todd needs to go to the cell phone store Got a new cell phone Because they don't exist He needs to go to singular wireless What's up there by us? Yeah, I got 18 here that I'd like to run down Go for it. More than Marrier, Dan
Starting point is 00:17:33 It's not taking. It's given. I know we got full calls, but I want to get these 18 restaurants that I miss in. Dan has a whole list. I'm ready. Dan's going to give his top 10. Number 10. A&W has revitalized themselves in a different way. Sonic is taken over the drive-in, but the A&W driving was a big deal when I grew up.
Starting point is 00:17:55 The frosty mugs being taken out to your car as you wait. I know Sonic does it now, and A&W is still thriving just in a different. fashion, but there was something about the A&W drive-in. In fact, the building that ours in my hometown, it hasn't been open for 40 years, still has the same building and the same awning where you would park and place your order in that speaker. Totally remember the A&W. And you made me think of something else, DB, and I don't think anyone's going to say it,
Starting point is 00:18:22 so I'm not taking anyone's answer. But when we do those graduate hotel appearances, a lot of them, they just take over other hotels and they rebrand them. and one of them we went to was an old Howard Johnson's hotel. That was 16 on my list. Yeah, that was, I was going to say Howard Johnson. The whole Joe, and I'm not talking the New York Rich's favorite New York met. I'm talking the hotel, but we would go there for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:18:44 He was a 30-30 guy, by the way. He was, yeah, and a sweet mustache. But Howard Johnson's, we would go there not to spend the night or anything. We would go there as a family for breakfast all the time growing up. By the way, can you imagine as a little kid how confused I was thinking that Howard Johnson was my New York Mets, but there was also hotels. I'm like, is it him? Wait, what is going on? Again, a breakfast spot.
Starting point is 00:19:07 No joke. You know what? Before we go to, I'll take everyone's answer. East Coast, after every school play, concert, or a little league game that was of importance, they may remain in a small way. But does anyone on the West Coast, have you guys heard of friendlies? You'd go for a fribble, yeah, after a big. school event. They had ice cream. It was a like a diner, but they also had ice cream and milkshakes.
Starting point is 00:19:36 And, you know, like, it was a major chain on the East Coast for sure. When you would, it was the quintessential, oh, you had your school concert or the playoff game in Little League. Yep. Afterwards, everyone went to Friendly. It's like how we went to TCBY. That was at more of the thing.
Starting point is 00:19:52 But this place had food too. CCBY was the country's best yogurt. And I remember being like, who wants frozen yogurt? But they are also very few and far between TCBYs. And one more, and then we'll go to the phones. A very East Coast truck stop place. They were in neighborhoods as well. They had a thick fins bar.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And there was nothing better than Roy Rogers. I used to love specifically their nuggets and their sweet and sour sauce. They had great fried chicken. Did you guys have Roy Rogers here in L.A.? Hardys was their hardy's like their, uh, Roy Rogers took over a lot of those things. Good, dude. And they used to have a sweet bacon burger, too.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Did Roy Rogers have curly fries? Or am I confusing that with Arbys? I think your Arby's did, but... Right. Roy Rogers, I remember only going to Roy Rogers when I'd be on, like, a road trip and we'd stop there. Yeah, they'd be a big truck stop type of place. All right, let's start at the top, and we'll go rapid fire.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Mike in Florida. Hooters and Joanns, the latest to be gone. What do you got? Yeah. Pay what you way. Ground round was a nightmare for any chubby kid growing up. I love ground around. Mike, try to tell us the second one again.
Starting point is 00:21:11 I don't think I knew that one. But ground round, Kavino's not joking, a nightmare for chubby kids. Parents, if you ate, if you bought an entree, your kids paid what they weighed. So if you weighed 85 pounds as a little kid, 85 cents. So the whole joke was like, don't bring your fat for it. But that was the spot for sure. The slider Sundays. I have so many of those little baseball helmets left over.
Starting point is 00:21:37 You know what? Fascined me as a kid, so I know I can't be alone. Remember the first time you were allowed to do soft serve by yourself? Places like that would have the ability as a kid, you could pull the lever and do your own soft surf. No, I remember that. Glorious. But it made me think of, too. Again, I'm from New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:21:55 So Route 22, New Jersey, you go up. Our guy that mentioned Beniggins before, the parent company also owned State. and ale and that was the higher-end version. That does not exist as far as I know. I used to love that place. Demetrius in Tulsa. What's up, Tulsa King? Well, three things. One, an old franchise, Arthur Treacher's kind of was part of that fish and chips thing
Starting point is 00:22:19 that was going on for a while. Second of all, Howard Johnsons not only did hotels, but they also did restaurants. And we have a turnpike between Tulsa and Oklahoma City and the midway at Howard Johnson's was always open 24 hours. so if we were going between the two, we could stop there. And third, someone, they had to be really old to remember this, but Sears, and I think Montgomery Ward had a house. You could buy a house kit and build it.
Starting point is 00:22:46 That's insane. Sears and Roebuck originally, right? You can do that at Costco or you can get like sheds and stuff. Yeah, LV in Vegas. What's up, LV? I got two for you. Love your show. Thanks, man.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Little League, Shaky's Pizza after the game. and then who did not go to a tower's record in the early 90s? Tower. Tower Virgin, Sam Goody, Coconut, F-I-E. They're all got. Tower Records was that and what was the name of the other one? What did you guys mostly? Sam Goody?
Starting point is 00:23:19 Okay, you had Sam Goody on the East Coast. Oh, man. Did you have nobody beats the whiz? No, we didn't have that here. You guys have Amoeba records out here. Oh, we had warehouse music. Warehouse music. That's the one I was thinking of right now.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Hey, Danny, you know, the, as I was thinking of it. I love when you always say it, the youngsters. The youngsters today, they don't know that thrill of, you had to wait at a record store or a video store to get concert tickets. That and also when there would be a big music release. Like I remember when Snoop Dogg's first solo album came out, there was a line outside the warehouse music store. You waited in line for hours to get that new CD.
Starting point is 00:23:56 That's where I'm always so torn with music and entertainment podcasts. We have everything at our fingertips. Does it make us lazy or is it convenient? I just can't ever put my finger on if I'm glorifying the past. Like if I wanted to listen to music, you had to go buy a CD or record to go, you know, to listen to a radio show. You had to listen live. There was no podcasting and movies and everything you'd have to go to a video store. Now everything's just right.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Everything's on your phone. Is that awesome or not? I don't know. It is. But again, you know, you lose a lot as a result. And that's what we're going over. And we're probably moving in a better. direction, but it is kind of sad to see these things go away.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Speaking of music, I'm pretty certain that Sam Ash closed down there last store. Guitar Center still remains Sam Ash gone. So if you want to buy a trumpet, you're not getting at Sam. It's really funny you would ask that because when you said Sam Ash, my only thought was, I think that's where my grandparents bought me my saxophone. No doubt. Yeah. If you need to buy some reeds or a pair of drumsticks, Sam Ash was your spot.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Yeah. That doesn't exist. As far as I know, again, certain brands here and there online maybe. Look, Rich and I, we worked. Our first show together was on Maxim Radio. I mean, magazines barely exist. Yeah, it's true. Three more quickies.
Starting point is 00:25:17 We'll go rapid fire with John and Illinois. What's up, bud? Thank you. Hey, yeah. Julius. That's cool, though. I didn't know Dairy Queen on that. Who's looking at the socks?
Starting point is 00:25:45 Yeah, I didn't even know they had feet. Wait, they have anything? They have anything below the knee? What's going on? Just kidding. No, I'm not. Josh in Pennsylvania, what's up, Josh? Man, you guys killed my store idea.
Starting point is 00:25:58 I was going to say the wall in Pennsylvania. We would go down to the mall. And I feel like it was like Thursday. It was a certain day of the week. I think it was Thursday when, you know, your favorite rock band was dropping their new album. And it'd be so exciting hopping in the car, you know, skipping school, heading down to the mall. You'd have the headphones. you could pop on to, you know, hear the different tracks.
Starting point is 00:26:21 You'd play like 30 seconds of the song and test it out before you could buy the CD. Josh, I'm so convinced, and I know it's self-serving, I'm so convinced we had the best childhood. If you're roughly 40-ish, I feel like if you grew up. My daughter watches, you know, like stranger things, your throwbacks, and she swears that we had it the best. I'm like, yeah, I think we did. I'm convinced life now is better and more convenient.
Starting point is 00:26:43 But I feel like if you grew up in the 80s and 90s, we grew up in a very special time. More of a magical time, yeah. All right, Dwight, rapid. We're running late, but a lot of fun talking to you guys. What's up, Kentucky? All right, I just heard you guys say y'all were to get 40. So I'm going to take you way back 20 more years. Okay, do you guys remember George Weld's restaurant? And then I'm, okay, it used to be a Woolworth.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Woolworth's kind of like a Walmart. Of course, yes. Woolworth. There was an East Coast place called Caldore. I don't know if that made it out here. Caldor, Keymart, Woolworth's for sure. My grandma used to tell stories about eating at Woolworth's cafeteria. Bradley's two guys.
Starting point is 00:27:18 But you know what? I do want to just plant one more thought before we move on because this stuff we didn't even talk about, but mall stores, like obviously structures gone. But I used to work at a place. It became Men's Express. Now it's Panda Express, Sam. Yeah, now they sell a panda clothes.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Now, I used to work at a mall store called the garage. And it's not what you see now garage. There are some stories called Garage. I used to work in a men's clothing store called The Garage and they sold like Levi's and boss sweatshirts and things like Big Johnson T-shirts and all that. But if you remember, there was a whole chain of merry-go-round, chess king, Ativo, all these stupid stores that don't exist anymore at the mall.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Well, hey, speaking of clothes, what do you got to rock nowadays? By the way, we'll take the rest of your feedback and we'll get into some Travis Kelsey and NFL next. But how about Travis Matthew? Oh, yeah. Whether you're teeing off, headed to the office, or kick him back to watch a big game. This is the convenience. Travis Matthew.com.

It's so nice because it's not too baggy. It's not too tight. It's just right. No, you really got to check out their crew next. They're quarter zips. Those Rob Parker quarter zips.

It's just high quality. And if you're going to make a springtime purchase, why not get your 20% off? Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:29:38 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:29:52 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
Starting point is 00:30:11 people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:31:17 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlic on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slical Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the present. of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation
Starting point is 00:32:32 in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You can picture a young Danny G. In line at Sam Goody. I'm sorry, warehouse out here in L.A. Yeah. I'm here for the Snoop Dog album.
Starting point is 00:33:38 No, back then he's like, I'm here for the Snoop Dog. It was a little lower. The voice was a download. I'm here for the Snoop Dog. My voice already sounded like this in fifth grade. Yeah. him in fifth grade. He had a beard and everything. He was running a do-rack. He had a beard.
Starting point is 00:33:50 I'm here for Snoop. Now, to wrap it up, again, Hooters and Joanne's going out of business. Other stores we miss. It is Fox Sports Radio, Covino Enriched, live in the Thai rack.com studio. Hooters, Hooters, yum, yum, yum. We got to say that, I mean, even in the world of sporting goods,
Starting point is 00:34:09 we've seen them all come and go. Dix is the go-to, I guess, Big five out here in L.A., but growing up. Big five stinks. Hermans, we are sports. Hermans, sports authority. Gotta go to Moes.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Models. Go to Models. Grand opening. Grand clothing. Did you guys have played against sports? No. But I think they're still around. I feel like...
Starting point is 00:34:32 Those are so good for people on a budget. Sporting... You used sporting goods. Oh, really? Sporting good stores. I could spend hours just walking around a sporting good store. Oh, look at these batting gloves. Look at these badminton racons.
Starting point is 00:34:43 You're all. You could, if you're a grown man or a woman, you could kill two hours in a sporting good store, a big one. But they're just not what they were. And, you know, the sad reality is some of these smaller ones, like out here in Los Angeles, we have big five. Yeah, they were always too small, Rich. Danny, I went there to get my kids some sporting goods for baseball and softball. And like, we don't have this and that size. And I talk to my wife and I go, they're pushing us to order on Amazon because we go there to try to support the sporting goods store.
Starting point is 00:35:14 and they're like, oh, we don't have small batting gloves. Oh, you need this in a size one kid's like, yeah, we don't have it. It's like, if you don't have these things, what is your first instinct? Yo, babe, do they have it on Amazon? And then you become that person. And that's how these stores go away. Exactly. Exactly. So it's sad, but again, got to move forward.
Starting point is 00:35:34 If you want to chime in with other ones that you remember or you want to give a shout out to and recognize stores you miss, hit us at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio. All right. Travis Kelsey. Let's touch on this guy for a second. Oh, hold up. You touch on him. Travis Kelsey. Not done. Not done. And then you got to ask yourself, not everyone gets to choose to go out on top. Not everyone's John L.A. Not everyone is, uh, I'll be honest. I'm trying to think who else? Michael Jordan after the second three people, but then he came back as a wizard. Jay G. Wentworth. I mean, uh, Jason Whitworth. Jay, G. I mean, Andrew Whitworth. Yeah, Andrew Whitworth. Very few guys, you could say when you look at what guy won a Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:36:20 Jerome Bettis. I remember the bus winning a Super Bowl in Detroit. They beat the Seahawks. Sorry, Dan Byer. Money Mayweather went out on top, and he's in the news today because him and Jake Paul are beefing publicly. But not many people get to choose
Starting point is 00:36:35 to go out on top. That's a rarity. That's a special thing. So when Travis Kelsey said, yeah, I'm not going out like that. I mean, short of another Super Bowl, you're going to go out on a note you don't want. It's really what it is. It's a sad reality.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Well, hold on. I'm going to quote him now. I don't know if you saw it, but he did say, we ain't going out like that la Cypress Hill style. We ain't going out. He said, Scooby-Doo, y'all, Scooby-Doo. Yeah, Sendog. Yeah. We ain't going out.
Starting point is 00:37:11 He said, losing Super Bowl. Licks. Losing the Super Bowl left a bad taste in his mouth. So therefore, he wants to go at it, run it back one more time at least. Again, 35-year-old Travis Kelsey on the Pat McAfee show. Even TB 12. Remember Tom Brady? Do you remember how the story ended? With a very dispiriting loss to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs, I believe? Yeah. I mean, all right, so Tom Brady, we all thought his first exit. was going to be on a pick to end the game, I believe, against like Jacksonville. Was it Jacksonville, Deadbier? Oh, Tennessee. It was against Tennessee, like a team that really didn't go much further.
Starting point is 00:37:57 And it was like, man, that's how Tom's going to go out. And then he comes back with the Bucks, wins the Super Bowl, but then tries to run it back. And he did have a comeback in that game. The only saving grace is that he actually had a pretty decent second half, but they just couldn't win. That Bucs offense? though was so hard to watch his
Starting point is 00:38:16 final year. It was just, and it wasn't really Brady's fault. It was just, it was grueling. It was like watching Iowa's offense. But he didn't go on. Like, it was sad because you knew it was the end, but it's not like he sucked that season. The team just wasn't better. And the simple fact that he had won the year before and it was almost like, wow, he really did it. Yeah, but he also, he beat freaking Patrick Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Remember the path that he took to get there? That was insane the year before. Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees, Mahomes. Like, that was badass. So again, it is unlikely to ever go out on top. But even when you try rich sometimes to take that mental still image, even in your own life, of like, yeah, this is my last day at the office, you rarely remember. You rarely remember it? You know, I'm thinking no matter what you do, do you guys remember the last time you played an organized baseball game?
Starting point is 00:39:05 Like, did you strike out? Did you ground out? What was your hurrah? Did you hit a home run? Did you end it like Derek Jeter? No. You would think you remember, right? Like, if you played baseball,
Starting point is 00:39:14 that dude had a walk-off, you know, hit to end his career. If you feel as though, if you feel like you cared so much about sports as a kid, isn't it shocking how you probably don't remember your last at bat or your last football game? Don't. I couldn't tell you if I tried.
Starting point is 00:39:31 And by the way, Jeter's last home game was to walk off. Yeah. He did get a hit in his last bat on the road. Remember it was like a weak infield dribbler? And it was like, look at that. He even hustled out his last hit. Yeah, but he was always. always full of magical moments there.
Starting point is 00:39:45 No doubt. Again, but professional athletes, they have the footage, they have the moment, and they rarely go out on top. So you've got to tip your hat when they do. So for Kelsey to run it back, I mean, he must really have some regrets of how he played his last game. You know, because for them to run it back to think they're going to win again, I find that hard to believe. It's ambitious. You know who would have been great at deal or no deal
Starting point is 00:40:08 or press your luck? No whammy, no Emmy stop? John Elway when John Elway finally won You just remember when we were kids He lost to the Giants He lost to the Redskins And he lost to the 49ers And you're like man Elway
Starting point is 00:40:22 O and 3 in the Super Bowl But he's so cool He won Helicopter dive into the end zone Underdog beat the Packers They came back They ran it back And they beat the Falcons
Starting point is 00:40:33 And I remember thinking like Why is he not walking away That's why I feel like Kershaw's pressing his luck He could have went out of champ Yeah That went again I don't know
Starting point is 00:40:41 Let's go to Dan Byer for an update. DB, what's going on, buddy? Remember when Brady retired the first time? They thought that the final touchdown pass would be the one that Mike Evans threw into the stands. Yes. And so then that ball was the hot commodity. And then Brady unretires. And then it's like, ah, too bad.
Starting point is 00:40:58 And so whoever bought it got the wrong end of the deal. The Titans did win the next week, though. Remember, they beat the Ravens and then lost to the Chiefs in the AFC championship game. But anyway, speaking of the Buccaneers, former Buccaneers, head coach John Gruden will be reinstated into the team's Ring of Honor once again. Removed in 2021 following a New York Times article at the time that published Gruden's emails from 2010, where he used racist, homophobic, and misogynistic terms in those emails with other NFL personnel. You guys mentioned Chief Senator Travis Kelsey confirmed he'll play in 2025.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter is not working out in Indianapolis. Did speak with reporters today at the Combine saying that he's telling teams, He wants to play both positions. NFL salary cap $279.2 million for next season. That's the highest ever. Spurs head coach Craig Popovich says he will not return to coaching this season following a mild stroke in the fall. And a statement Popovich said he is hoping he can return to coaching in the near future.
Starting point is 00:41:59 Nick's Senator Mitchell Robinson could make his season debut tomorrow against the Grizzlies, according to ESPN, as he's listed as questionable. Yonison Teddekunpo will go for the bucks tonight against the Denver Nuggets. and Jake Knapp, some history on the PGA tour, becoming the 15th player to shoot a sub-60 round. His round of 59 puts him at top the leaderboard at the Cognosin Classic at 12 under par. Guys, back to you. Thank you, Dan. And we got more Kavino and Rich.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Next, right here. Fox Sports Radio, hang tight. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, dude? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:42:35 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to our time. First people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?

We're going to do some of the best movie and TV coaches and discuss Gene Hackman's life, plus nasty nester in the news. We'll talk some baseball on, on overpromised Fox Sports Radio's
Starting point is 00:47:10 YouTube page. If you listen on the podcast, be sure to check it out and vice versa. Again, I'm Steve Kavino. That is Rich Davis. And Rich, I had another thought. You know how earlier in the show we said that we always envisioned our grandparents living in the black and white?
Starting point is 00:47:26 Because all the footage and photos we saw were in black and white. So with that thought, do our kids think we lived in the blurry? Because all of our footage and photos of the 80s and 90s, all blurry footage. now. Do they think we lived
Starting point is 00:47:40 in the blurry? And the truth is yes, because that's what your little son said. Yeah. Why is it all so blurry? I showed him a clip of the Mets in the 80s when I was a little boy and he's like, Dad, it's so blurry. And by the way, Dan Byer showed us a clip we had never seen. I posted it at Rich Davis at Kavine on Rich
Starting point is 00:47:55 and it's when they made the switch to the news being in color. Now, you know why I was never told this story though? This is the revelation I just had my brain right now. I've never seen that clip and it's really interesting. There was a moment where we went from black and white to color.
Starting point is 00:48:12 It's probably because a lot of people didn't have a color TV. So even though they did that, like from my mother's perspective, I never heard my mother tell me the day it went color because she still had a black and white television. If you had a black and white TV, it didn't matter. Even though they made the Wizard
Starting point is 00:48:27 of Oz in color? It was always in black and white. So maybe your grandparents. It didn't matter to them until they had a color TV. So I imagine a lot of people didn't even notice what happened. visually because they still had black and white televisions. Anyway, I digest. Remember in 1955, the McFly's?
Starting point is 00:48:48 They had a TV and they were, remember we were like having a TV? It was like, yeah, you have money. Yeah, I know. Yeah, I got two TVs. Two TVs. Reruns. Live from the tire rack.com studio.

And we'll see you guys on overpromised in a few minutes, all right? Until then, Arriban d'Achi, baby. We'll see you in the overpromise land. Goodbye. Have a great one. Hey guys, it's us
Starting point is 00:51:36 The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. Nice. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:51:45 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We get to ask other people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
