Didn't tell the staff I'm saying this.

What? After four weeks of no coffee, I went back to coffee the last two days. No. Okay, so I've been off coffee for about six months. It's like I had to. I had like stomach things, but it was like, it's really hard. It's really hard the first couple of weeks and months, but I have found the most incredible, like, plant-based energy drinks.

My daddy used to own an energy drink company, like, when we were growing up. So I grew up on, like, healthy alternatives to that stuff. But I got something for you. Okay. Well, no, I don't need the coffee. I was fine, but waking up early, you know, grinding for the show. No, this riot energy is insane. You are going to absolutely love it.

It's like a slow roll. And I said, and there's no crash. I went back to the big Starbucks drink, which is embarrassing now. And I know it's just sugar. I mean, it's like all milk. I know the audience is. With a little espresso. Just if you're going to do it, be hardcore and get like a quad.

That's what I used to do when I was doing. I don't think I know what that is. Four shots of espresso? Four shots? That's insane. I do everything to the extreme, okay? Yeah. I went too hard.

We have a good NBA guest coming up. Mark Medino will be here very shortly. I need to start the second hour with Aaron Rogers and my Jets. And I know I did a lot on Rogers yesterday and a lot of Jets fans. We're not happy with it. What's going on, guys? I thought we wrote together on this Aaron Rogers thing. So we had a spirited Aaron Rogers discussion in the morning meeting.

I have told Coward before, I think we need a camera in that morning meeting because guys are piping up saying cool things. And I had totally forgotten this. Do you guys remember Aaron Rogers was like a beloved figure in the NFL? People liked Aaron Rogers. He was wholesome Midwest, state farm commercials, discount double check. he was like, I don't know if he was quite the face of the league because Tom Brady was around dominating and Peyton Manning was there, but Rogers was very well liked.

He was, you know how like there's that saying on Instagram, like, he's your Hooper's favorite Hooper, right? So I love Zach Levine. I'm a big Zach Levine fan. I will say I've got some Zach Levine stuff that I heard this week. He's working out here in L.A. I have it from very good sources. Lakers fans just keeping an ear out.

But like I like Zach Levine, and if I had Zach Levine, who do you like watching? You know, he would tell me, and then I would be like, oh, got it, got it. In the NFL, Aaron Rogers was that guy. Everybody liked him. And we're trying to pinpoint when he went sideways, if you will. And I don't know if it had to do with internal stuff with the Packers or whether it was COVID. But something went down in 2020, and he came out the other side as like just a different dude.

He's, you know, going in on the vaccine and conspiracy theories. It just was out of character for Aaron Rogers. I don't know when he made the choice to get political. Maybe he met Joe Rogan and they're doing their own thing. It's fine. It's interesting. He's as polarizing as he's ever been now. He was not polarizing, say, 2017, 2015, 20, he just wasn't.

And, you know, every time I hear polarizing and changing, I think of Floyd Mayweather. And you guys know the famous story of Floyd Mayweather. Amazing, talented boxer, just a superstar, but he wasn't getting the purse that he wanted. So he turned villain. He went full on heel. He became Money Mayweather, literally throwing cash around at the strip club. He cultivated this new personality and instantly became a box office hit. And everybody wanted to get his fights and he's making money just hand over for this.

He changed fundamentally who he was. Now, I don't know that Aaron Rogers did that fully or it was that calculated, but something went sideways. A relationship, something with his family. I don't know. Maybe one day Rogers will tell us. But what I do know is that Aaron Rogers obviously is piping up a lot this week. He now believes, okay, that the Jets, the most futile NFL organization over the last 13 years, the longest playoff drought in the league, he believes they are must watch TV.

Here's Aaron Rogers on serious Mad Dog Radio talking about the league, the Jets, and television. We are must watch TV. And that's pretty obvious. everybody knows that. Whether you love me or hate me, people want to see me play. They enjoy watching me play. And we are a team to watch this year. Not surprising. As far as us, Owen people, yeah, that's fine. Whatever. I don't care what anybody has to say about that. That's great. You know, it was sh-h-h-h-h-h-me. It was rough for the league. I get it. Me only playing a few plays last year. That's going to be different this year. And, you know, what happens when we

play them back this year with six great prime-time games, you know? What are going to say next year? You know, if I wanted to get a little conspiracy theorist, I would wonder, well, must watch TV. A lot of talk about TV and jets. I wonder, has anybody heard about Rogers since he went down with the Achilles injury? That, I don't know, maybe he's had a camera crew in tow the entire time, calculating all everything, documenting his recovery and his podcast appearances. Maybe there's a Netflix, Amazon special. the works for Aaron Rogers. I don't know. Anybody else hear that? Maybe Rogers sees what Peyton

Manning is doing this second act, right? Peyton Manning, Omaha Productions. I mean, they're, they're crushing it. Maybe Aaron Rogers sees Tom Brady's going to Fox to do TV. Oh, interesting. What do I need to set myself up for my next act? Do that quarterback series on Netflix, that was wildly successful. What if they just followed me around? I've got quite an audience. It's almost as if Aaron Rogers has been doing this building up to something. I don't know. Is he going to release his own special, My Recovery? And he's now signaling to his tribe of fans out there.

And you know he's got his tribe, his guys who ride with him through thick and thin. I don't know. You just wonder what Aaron Rogers is up to. Ask for the must-see TV aspect. Okay? I'm a huge Jets fan. And they are nowhere near the top five. So I put together my top five must-see TV NFL teams this season.

We'll go five to one. Here we go. At number five, I think this is easy. The Chicago Bears. I mean, we're talking about a coach on the hot seat, a number one pick who's being anointed as maybe the next Patrick Mahomes. He looks like Mahomes. You got new receiver in Roma Dunezze.

I even like the D'Andre Swift pickup. They got Keenan Allen. Listen, man, this Bears team finished last season strong. The defense looked good. They're in a tough division. I think the Chicago Bears, I am fascinated to see Caleb Williams. I will remind people, he did look awesome at times. He had great plays at USC.

He didn't win anything. Maybe a holiday bowl here or there, but like I need to see it, and I'm very fascinated to see Caleb William and the Bears. At number four, bit of a curveball, bit of a curveball, Shane Steichen, Anthony Richardson, and the Indianapolis Colts. Here's a franchise that has not won a playoff game since Andrew Luck retired. Okay? They almost every single year have a new quarterback under center for week one.

Not this year. Anthony Richardson's back. And I'm so excited to watch him because in the flashes he showed last year, this guy was dynamic as hell. They're never out of a game because he has a howitzer for an arm and he is a tank. He's a Cam Newton type guy running through defenders. Now, he's got to stay healthy.

That's obviously key. But I like Shane Steichen. Even OC Jim Bob Cooter has had some good times with Matt Stafford. I think this is a legitimate wildcard team in the AFC. I cannot wait to watch. Maybe I'm the only one. the Indianapolis Colts. At number three, here we go,

the Dallas Cowboys. And it's not because they're America's team. It's because Mike McCarthy is lame duck. He don't have a contract extension. It's DAC. We don't know what's going on there. It's C.D. Lamb, not at OTAs. It's Micah Parsons.

He was, like, battling a sumo wrestler two weeks ago? What's Michael Parsons going to do next? I mean, after games, he's going on podcast, popping off. it feels like it's a combustible situation in Dallas and they've had a really good run with Dak. It does feel like the end of the line. I don't know what the future holds, but I'm very curious.

When this goes sideways, assuming it does, there's some major fireworks expected in Dallas. Let's go to number two. Yes, out here in Los Angeles, I cannot wait to watch my guy, Jim Harbaugh. I do have a lot of guys. I like Harbaugh. He does live kind of near-ish me.

Now I haven't seen him, but I do know his kids go to a school where a bunch of my buddies' kids go, and they say Harbaugh, every time they see him super friendly and nice. I think he's going to crush it, guys. I know there's a lot of newness. Keenan Allen's gone. Mike Williams is gone. I talked earlier about compound interest and continuity.

Well, how's this for you? Are you ready? So the guy they got at OC is Greg Roman. You know where he was, obviously with Lamar Jackson back in the day. And he knows Harbaugh very well from San Francisco. They're like Baltimore West. They got J.K. Dobbins, Gus the bus, Hayden Hurst, I think that just the knowledge of players and Roman and Harbaugh,

it's going to gel quicker than people think. I think this is a surprise team. I really like the Chargers this year. And I just give out the name for fantasy football guys who watch the show. Ladd-McConkie. You've got to get him early. I'm just telling you, he's in for a big year, the rookie out of Georgia. And number one, the team I'm most interested in watching should be no surprise.

The best team in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers. Brock Purdy doubters galore. Listen, it's tough for me to crowbar a Brock Purdy segment on this show because the staff is just like it's Brock Purdy. Folks, I'm telling you, Brock Purdy is legit. We've got two years, two years data on Brock Purdy being one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. I know he's small. I know he was the last pick in the draft.

I know he's limited athletically. I don't know. He had two playoff comebacks and should have won the Super Bowl, the 49ers blew that game but I can't wait to watch the Niners. The other thing, a little last comment. I forgot who it was, but a writer said this is kind of a last dance, if you will, for the 49ers,

because one of Ayuk or Debo is going to be gone. Kittles getting up there in age. McCaffrey's got a lot of wear and tear and the defense is getting old at linebacker. I don't know what the future holds. I think the Niners win the Super Bowl this year. They've been going to the NFC championship game or Super Bowl every year seemingly.

I think they break through this year. I cannot wait to watch the Niners. And I know Alex Curry has some thoughts here. I didn't include the Rams. Chiefs fans are going to be butt hurt, of course. Who else am I missing? I'm shocked you didn't put your jets on there with Rogers coming back. I mean, I'm excited to watch the Steelers.

I mentioned that in the herd line just because of the reality show quarterback situation that's going to go down with Tomlin having nothing to lose, with no loyalty to either of these guys. Last year of his contract, never having a losing season, and one of the toughest back ends to his schedule. I think the Steelers are on there. And then obviously with Rogers, must watch TV.

You just did a whole bit on it. It's tough for me with the Jets because I'm watching them regardless. But like our non-Jet fans, like, I can't wait to see Gang Green this week. Like, it's going to be Rogers. Rogers is the poll. That's who's getting people to the box office. Do you think they're rooting against him more than they are for him?

It doesn't matter. That's what polarizing is. You're going to watch either because you love him or you hate him. He knows that. Well, everybody loves our next guest. He's been covering the end of the end. forever. Mark Medina. Mark, come on in. Did I call them too early?

Oh, here is the long walkout. What's up, buddy? Covering the league since 2010. Ready to talk about the NBA playoffs. I don't know. Should we start with the JV matchup or go straight to varsity? Whatever you want to do. Let's go with Luca Donchit. I'm such a fan. I heard this week he was compared to, and we talked about this with Rick Buecker. They compared him to Larry Bird.

He got little James Hardin action. I've said he has the vision of Magic Johnson. I don't know, where are you on Luca? Well, Luca Dodgich is a generational player. He's a special player. I don't like the comparisons, though. I mean, first of all, I think that all those different players are distinctly different. Magic is about passing first.

Larry Bird, three-point specialist, but also had a complete game. I think Luca Dodgich is a very special star, but we're just seeing the beginning stages of this. We know that he is a special player, but prior to this past season, the knock on him was, oh, he's trying to do too much. He's scoring a lot. He doesn't trust his teammates. We've seen growth this season specifically with trusting his teammates, partly because he's improved in that area, and partly because the team is better.

He's not an elite defensive player yet, but there is a buy-in with that. So, special player deserves all the accolades, MVP candidate, but I'm not going to compare those players. Come on. He did have two great defensive plays in the final, like, two minutes, with the steel off the bad pass by McDaniels, and then the breakup of the lob, I think it was from, Conley to go bear. He's got an all-around game. I just, I balk at the idea that Yokic is

definitely better than him. And tell me, you are in the media. It feels like the media goes for whoever wins the championship and then goes Gaga for them. And if you haven't won a title, well, you haven't won a championship. Like, can we just slow down? Lucas done more in the first five years of his career than Jordan. Almost anybody else. I mean, Magic went and played with Jabbar, which is, come on. And Bird had a bunch of Hall of Famers with him. But I don't know. his first five years have been off the charts. We've never seen this. There's no doubt.

I mean, it depends each voter, but there seems big picture that there is a carryover effect of a player's postseason success, even though it technically is a regular season award. But I think that when you look at Lucas specifically this season, he was making a lot of inroads with catching up in the MVP race because of just how special and dominant he was toward the latter part of the season. So I think it's inevitable. He's going to get championships.

He's going to get MVP awards. it even could happen this season because of how well they're playing, not just with Luca Dodgers, but Kyrie Irving being the best version of themselves. And they have a really good supporting cast with PJ Washington, Derek Lively, the second. They're a much better defensive team. They have a lot more scoring depth than they had in past seasons, and it's the right ingredients at the right time. So where are you on Kyrie Irving? First of all, three layers question.

We'll just do two. Number one, what have your interactions been like with Kyrie as a reporter, if at all? because he is a squirrely guy. And second, is he matured past all the nonsense from Boston and Brooklyn? Or is this just a perfect fit in their winning so he's happy? I think it's a combination of all these things. He's healthier. There's no extraneous circumstances that explain his absence like we saw in Brooklyn.

And the fit is better. We've been able to see, even on other teams, when he's available, he is a great basketball fit. He has a great talent. He's able to be a score, great playmaker. But his chemistry with Luca Dodgish has been able to reach a deeper level because Kyrie can have the leadership presence. Luca leads by how strong of a player he is on the court, but he's younger.

He's not really vocal. Kyrie can fill that void. And then I think when you look at the supporting cast, they've been dramatically upgraded compared to last season. I even think last season, the fit that Kyrie Irving and Luca Dodgich had, it was good. They just need more time together. immediately upon arrival, people around the Mavericks organization would talk about how great

Kyrie is behind the scene. So I think that now that all the other ingredients are in store here, you're seeing, I think, flashbacks of that title run that he had in Cleveland in 2016. Could have been a honeymoon face, because we know Kyrie go, we'll go sideways. But let me ask about Donovan Mitchell, not Donovan Mitchell, I'm sorry, Anthony Edwards. So Anthony Edwards looks to be like a massive superstar in this league. Looks to be awesome. last four games it seems like defenses are starting to figure him out maybe he's tired at 22 years

old which is such a cop-out I feel like we got everybody got a little premature with Edwards and he kind of read his the clippings remember they won the first two in Denver the Jordan nonsense starts and then they lose three straight like badly

where are you on Edwards oh he's a special player but he's young he's going to have ups and downs I think that he's going to have bounce back performances is the good thing is I think that he's made of the right stuff. Yeah, he's honest and says, hey, he wants to take on Kyrie, but I think that he is a student of the game.

He's developing into a complete player. You've seen him grow as a passer this season. You've seen him grow as a defender this season. He's not a finished product, though. The good thing about Minnesota is they have a lot of roster depth around him. You look at that game seven against Denver. He did not shoot the ball well, but play great on defense. And Carl Anthony Towns really replaced that.

I think the dynamic between Towns, and Edwards really good. They can be 1A, 1B. Horned Anthony Edwards, he's even remarked to his trainer when he was out last season that he thought, in a weird way, it was a blessing in disguise because this allows Anthony Edwards to grow. So short term, what does that mean?

This is going to be a hell of a series, Dallas, Minnesota. It could go either way, can make the case for both. But I think that big picture, Anthony Edwards will bounce back, probably slow the role of the hype, as far as Michael Jordan goes, but He is the real deal.

Okay, so wait, you said Carl Anthony Towns like it's going well. Okay, Mark, let's say Dallas wins this series. You've seen all the financial stories written. Owner does not want to pay the luxury tax historically in Minnesota. Paying Gobert, Cadwere, McDaniel's got a contract. Nasreeve got a deal. They're not going to be able to keep this core intact if they don't.

I don't think if they get out of the Western Conference Finals. Do you think they all come back next year? I think they all come back. No doubt. The ownership situation is tenuous. but keep in mind who's running the front office, Tim Connolly. He was with the Denver Nuggets. And you know what their play was?

Let's maintain continuity. That's partly what got them to that championship run last season. So when you talk to Minnesota and the players around there, they're not looking about trying to make playoff noise and be that cool, fun story. They want to win a championship. But if they fall short of that, whether it's in the NBA finals or in this West Finals, I don't think it's about making dramatic changes. It's about trying to use the continuity for momentum purposes and that compound interest that you've been talking about. Oh, listen to you. Look at you.

Listen to the show. Nice. All right. Who would you rather build around Anthony Edwards or Jason Tatum? Oh, that's a good question. I like the pros and cons of both players more, you know, as far as their positive attributes, but if I had to build around, I'd say Anthony Edwards. Oh, kill it. Where did I go wrong with this?

Okay. Let's hear it. Okay. I think, well, Anthony Edwards is a little bit younger. I mean, Jason Tatum is still in his prime. and he's young. But Anthony Edwards has a few years fewer, so that buys some time. But I think that when you look at just what his game is all about, he doesn't have to necessarily be a high-volume score. I think that he is going to continue to morph into being a playmaker role. Jason Tatum has

done that as well and become more efficient. But I think his natural inclination is to be that score. And as a result of that, I think it's easier to build a roster around Anthony Edwards that will be with Jason Tatum. But look, I think we're really splitting hairs here because The boss is Celtics, they have so much depth. The fact that they got Christoph Porzingis this past season, they obviously need him in this playoffs, but prior to his injury, that fit has been really good because it's brought out the best in Tatum,

brought out the best in Jell and Brown. But, Enhan O'O words, I think, is and will continue to become an even more special player. Let's go to that Celtics Pacer series. Halliburton doesn't sound like he's going to play. Last time he had the hamstring, he missed like 10 games or something. something? Yeah. So it sounds like it's not good.

Hamstring injuries are dice. It is the playoffs, though. So keep that in mind. But even before his hamstring injury, I was talking to his trainer, Drew Hanlon, earlier this week. Oh, yeah. He made it clear that he wasn't even fully 100% because of the back spasms. Didn't go into great detail.

But we knew ahead of time that Tyrese Halliburton was dealing with some stuff. And the reality is the Pacers, they're a high-powered offense. They play well as a team. But if they don't have Tyreus Halliburton, like they don't have a fighter's chance, against Boston, but knowing how he is, my hunch is he's going to patch everything together to at least go down swinging. So I think he will play, but these hamstring injuries, medical staffs don't want to mess around with this. Do you do all-NBA voting or no? I have in certain years. Sometimes I haven't. And I'm leaning toward even if I'm eligible for votes, I don't want to

go down that path anymore because, and now it clearly affects player contracts. It's not worth it. Yeah. So Halliburton got All-NBA, and now he's eligible to make a billion dollars because voters voted for him. But they didn't vote for Jalen Brown. Now he got it last year, so he's gotten paid. It's going to be fine. But you're right. Is this something the league needs to – I don't know how you tweak it, but tying it to all NBA does feel a little strange since it's votes that matter. Yeah. Well, here's the thing. Obviously, I'm biased coming from the media, but I think that that is the best pragmatic solution compared to do you have the player votes? Do you have the coaches votes? Clearly the players don't take the voting seriously when it comes to All-Star. So that's going to create more problems and solve them. With coaches, yeah, they obviously know the game well,

but as we see when they pick All-Star Reserves, they tend to lean more toward players that have been either on winning teams or that are veterans and that they're familiar with. And sometimes that makes for the right call, but sometimes it leads to blind spots. So Devin Booker being all-NBA over Jalen Brown. Like, why the hell will the sons get two guys when the sons were a six seat? Well, I think another part of this is that when you're on a team like the Celtics,

sometimes when you're having multiple star teammates, it almost hurts your candidacy because here's the thing, different basketball minds, whether it's media or other people around the league, there's split opinions on, okay, who deserves the larger percentage of credit for that team's success? So when you're, you know, competing with Jason Tatum and Christophs for Zingis and a lot of good depth, that can go against you. But Jalen Brown, definitely deserving. But I think the tougher part about this exercise is when we talk about all-MBA or All-Star,

and you say, is someone deserving or not? Yes, usually you can say yes, but who are you taking out? Yeah. And that's the hard part. I think Tyre's out for him deserves all NBA as well. All right, we got about a minute left. Donovan Mitchell's coach just got fired Bickerstaff. Your best guess as to what happens with Mitchell when they present in the extension

after the finals? My best guess, and it is a guess because it's the NBA. It's fluid. I think that he is going to come back to Cleveland because of that extension. The fact that, look, you can make the case that a lot of their shortcomings had to do with the fact. They went up against Boston and there's injuries. But you never know because a lot of teams, including the Lakers, they're going to try to make their best trade pitches to get Donovan Mitchell. But I don't think from Cleveland's end, there's going to be enough of an appetite that it's worth trading him.

Even if he denies that extension. There's no way to get him to say guaranteed can't ask for a trade. You can't do that in a con. Because he could just say, give me the money now, sure. And then in a year, I'm out, guys, I'm done, trade me. Yeah, I mean, you just do that. Contracts don't mean anything in today's NBA. But it's more about if he declines it, the reign is on the wall that he might want to then leave next summer.

You want to get something in return. But I don't think there's packages available that will be worth it in Cleveland's mind to do that. All right. Mark Medina covered the NBA for since 2010. My gosh, you got to see a little Kobe, a little LeBron. A little warriors too. Yeah. A little warrior.

What a good run. Just a goal. golden run. I think we're going to see W we're both going to see the Indiana Fever Sparks game tonight. Yeah, I will be there. All under the W too. Can't wait. I mean, I'm not betting on the game, but my family's excited to see it. All right, coming

No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Let's keep the NBA playoff talk going, because Jalen Brown was a hero in game one with his game tying three-pointer to send it to overtime, and he kept those horrokes going in game two last night.

Now, he scored 40 points, which tied his playoff career high in the 126-110 victory. And after the game, head coach Joe Mazula, praise Brown's commitment, saying that Jalen cares about the right stuff and understands that winning is the most important thing. Now, J-Mack, this series has quickly become the Jalen Brown show. And I think last night's game is how most people thought game one was going to go.

Boston came out and really controlled the game for most of the time. And a lot of that is because of Jalen Brown. Now, I know we touched on this in the first hour a bit, but the NBA all team came out Wednesday night, Jalen Brown got snubbed, and this game felt a little bit like, let me show you how good I am to the rest of the league. I mean, Jalen Brown scored 10 points during a 20-0 Boston run. Jason Tatum took a while to warm up, and that was okay because Jalen Brown stepped right in and picked it up, and the Celtics are now two wins away from their second NBA finals trip in three seasons. Yeah, the motivational angle is pretty cool, right?

Yeah. We saw Kyrie Irving in game one. after hearing Anthony Everton. He talked about it. He said, he's like, oh, yeah, I was at home watching, watching that post-game presser with my family. And he's calling me out. Okay. I'll take that.

I'm coming after you. Don't be fooled. Players see everything. Even, like, little things from fans on Twitter. Like, you, everybody is so easily accessible on social media. Unless you have, like, some sort of setting where you only see things and tweets and comments from people that you follow. you're going to see what people are talking about, especially if it's trending.

So it's... I'm with Brown here. I think he got snubbed. I felt like he should have been on there. Listen, I'll never forget. Russell Westbrook averaged a triple double. Remember, and he won the MVP? I was like, his team was like fifth or sixth in the West. They got destroyed in the first round.

How the hell is he the MVP? Just because he put up a bunch of big stats. Get out. So I thought that was bunk back in the day. And I think you've got to be rewarded for your team's success. It's not just about numbers. This is the, what is the most valuable player conversation? Are you going strictly off the stats or are you going the value that they bring to their team?

Yeah. And I think people are torn on that. Lamar Jackson was the MVP in the NFL last year. Yeah. They had the number one seat. Would anybody say he's the best player in the NFL? No. Not as long as Patrick Mahomes is breathing.

Yeah. I mean, he didn't lead the league in majority of quarterback stats, but he willed his team to get to where they are. And it doesn't matter. That's why. It's like, are you going to go stats? Are you going to go what they mean to that team? Are they how valuable are they to their franchise? I don't know what is it like.

It's not 50-50. It's probably like, I think team success. Listen, if you just want to go stats, there's a bunch of guys stat patting on crap teams. Like, it can't just be 60-40 stats. I think team success has to be matter more. I think 6535? I mean, it's tough because do you believe that like just in the NBA and NFL? Because we've seen Mike Trout when, I think, what he has three MVPs now,

and he's been on one of the worst teams. I would say baseball is more individual. Yeah, Shohei Otani, two unanimous MVPs on one of the worst teams with the Angels in the league. Like, it's, I mean, that's tough too. If you are significantly one of the best. And yes, if you're on a bad team, that's going to come down to stats. But there has to be, like, in this situation, I think, a little. Well, baseball is a little more individual.

Like, one individual cannot in a team atmosphere. The team record. Yeah. Like Aaron Judge, didn't he hit, like, 97 home runs last year or something or two years ago? Not last year. He was injured last year. Yeah, two years ago. And it's like, he's not going to win.

97 would be. I'm asking. Norley. You know, guys put up massive numbers and it's like, it's got to be more than the numbers. You've got to win. So anyways. Yeah. All right.

Let's move to the other series because Timberwolves did not look like the powerhouse team we've seen. It's postseason in game one against the Mavs. Anthony Edward admitted that they were a little tired in the loss, but head coach, Chris Finch, did not hold back his criticism about the team. lackluster performance. It was a rough film session and told the guy, it's been a long time, so I've been this disappointed in your effort, your performance, your attitude, your application, your attention in detail.

It just wasn't there. Unless the conference finals started, not sure if they got the memo, they got this afternoon. I mean, even though the game was close, Kyrie was playing on a different level, Mavs felt like they were on a little different level. But if you're going to take a positive out of that situation, because I like to look at the positives, is that you were able to keep it close. And as we heard in the post-game presser, especially for Mann, he said they beat themselves, we can't play tired.

Like, there are positives that you can take out of this. And I don't know, hopefully move it forward. I mean, Anthony Edwards was scoreless in the third quarter of game one. None of their three stars, Carl Anthony Towns or Rudy Goberer, scored 20 points in game one. And the T-Wills had their worst free throw shooting night in the postseason in game one, making just 61%. It's like all of those things combined are not going to win.

you a game. Your stars have to show up. I don't know. I like Finch. She's a straight shooter. I didn't love that quote. Like, it's been a long time. What are you talking about?

You guys got destroyed at home by Denver. Like absolutely pummeled. That was like, what, 10 days ago? Like, let's not act like this was an out-of-character thing. Like, the Mavericks play really good defense. Like, that's a fact. Mm-hmm. I mean, I know I'm keeping up for Luca.

I'm like, isn't that the teen you're pulling for in the postseason? Yeah, I am. Yeah. I'm all in on Dallas financial. So, yeah. Okay, that checks out. Let's move to the NFL. The bill's drafted wide receiver, Keon Coleman, with the 33rd pick in the draft this year. And after the losses of Stefan Diggs and Gabe Davis's offseason, Buffalo desperately needed another offensive weapon. And Josh Allen said he thinks Coleman is a perfect fit. I think that, you know, his play style, what we needed in

our offense and talking with our offensive coordinator. our quarterback coach, Brandon B, and obviously coach McDermann, a guy that's a big body guy and a guy that can go win on a back shoulder fade and not afraid to be a physical wide receiver. And then again, I think you pair him

with some of the guys that we have in our room right now. We're going to have a pretty small group that works together. If you're watching the tape that we were showing right now, he is a big physical guy that's not afraid to run through anybody. which, as you just heard Josh Allen say, that fits their style of play very well. But they did lose or talk to wide receivers.

You know, Stefan Diggs put up almost 1,200 receiving yards last season. So the question is, like, obviously there's going to be growing pains. Anytime, as we were talking about with Caleb Williams, you're moving from the college game to the NFL. Is this too much pressure to put on a rookie receiver? Is he that missing piece that can get that? Josh Allen over that Patrick Mahomes hump in the playoffs. Yeah, we've seen, I don't know.

We've seen some of these receivers come from college, and they're ready. They're ready to jump in and put up big numbers. To the people who are concerned that Coleman, how's he going to handle cold weather Buffalo? He played at FSU. He's from Louisiana. Ah, but this kid went to Michigan State start. So he knows cold.

Michigan cold. I think he's going to be fine. He's been amazing in interviews. I don't know how many you've seen. Oh, my gosh. His personality has been out of this world. the cookie thing when he was at the presser. I think talking about golf,

like he just has been, if that is a reflection of what he's going to be like in the locker room, he is going to be, as we were talking about earlier, it's an easy, there's always like that kind of guy that you gravitate towards. And even just watching him on these like pressers and TV and social media clips, I want to hang out with the guy.

So I'm sure his teammates are going to want to do the same thing. A breath of fresh air from Stefan Diggs. Quite the opposite. Quite the opposite personality But digs I mean first it ended badly in Minnesota Yeah It's badly in Buffalo

I've been there for a while. Okay? The Luca Donchage hot takes in the surrounding media space right now are going a little overboard. Now, I am prone as Alex is, as Colin. Everybody, we're prone to hyperbole. And so Ryan Hollins was on the show yesterday. And there was no camera on me when he was speaking. But if you had seen it, I nearly fell out of my chair because here's what Ryan Hollins had to say about Luca Donchage.

I don't know how the kid wasn't the first pick in the NBA draft. And the thing about Luca is that he does beat you in a array of different places. And even worse, he doesn't in slow motion. He does it with a bad knee. A young bull is going to be on the injury report every single. night, you don't realize how big he is. So he's a, he's a mix of Larry Bird and James Harden. He takes his time. He's in slow motion. He's big. He's going to trash talk with you. And when he's rolling, man, he's seemingly literally unstoppable.

Okay. He's already got a better step back than Hardin. And Hardin owned the stepback in the league for a while. I can't. The Larry Bird one's tough because I grew up watching NBA in the 80s. Magic Johnson fan. I didn't like Larry Bird. I went through the spiel yesterday. Like, I don't like Boston teams. I respected Byrd, but like, what's not to? I'm sure you guys have seen the clip on Instagram where Larry Bird, someone does like an audio,

and Larry Bird was playing like Portland. And then he had a back-to-back with the Lakers. So against Portland, he took like every shot with his left hand and scored like 39 points or whatever. He went off. And then he's like, afterward they're like, why were you shooting lefties? Like, I had to save my right hand for the Lakers tomorrow night. Like that's amazing stuff like that.

You know, Luca's not doing that. And I'm a Luca guy. But to a point on Hollins, he's like, I don't know how Luca wasn't the first pick. Do you guys remember the 2018 draft? This was still, it was not a fully European league yet, right? With Janice and Yokic. By the way, all NBA came out. Four of the top five guys are not American in all NBA.

Okay? This is where we're headed. We're there. It's a European league. But in the 2018 draft, DeAndre Aten. who is from the Bahamas but played collegiately at Arizona. He was the number one pick. Phoenix.

The best story I heard, and I know I referenced my men's leagues and basketball and stuff. Well, the gym I go to is the old Clippers facility. So there's a ton of former NBA people, current NBA people hanging out. And of course, they see me on TV blabbing. They're like, who's this guy? So then I start becoming friends with them and they start telling me stuff. The best story I heard about the 2018 draft. So the GM, James Jones, who was at the time in Phoenix, goes to the, I think it was a European

in championships to watch Luca play and comes back and gets his report to the Sun's Brass. It was basically like, I don't know. Who's he going to guard when he comes here? I don't know. I'm not that impressed. I'm not that impressed was basically the gist of it. They take DeAndre Aiton and Luca, you know, the rest is history. Anyways, side note, the guy who went after Aiton was Marvin Bagley, who was awesome at Duke,

but he's another big guy bounce around the league. Luca, obviously way better. So it doesn't stop there, the Luca comparisons. Chandler Parsons, who I think has been on this show, had a great nickname when he played in the league, Chansom Parsons, because he's like a handsome guy, Chandler Parsons, dated a bunch of quasi-famous people. Anyways, Chandler Parsons was on a show this week

and actually doubled down on the Luca Donchich Larry Bird stuff. As a basketball player, Luca Donkich can do everything Larry Bird did and more. And there it is. There's your viral moment for Thursday. I understand the old guys are going to disagree. And here I am. Sitting next to him again. Oh, it's a different game.

It's too physical. Luca can never play back then. It's like he doesn't have to. He plays now and he's better than he was back. Like, he's just better. Listen, I try to be level-headed in some of this stuff. I don't know that he's better than a guy who won the MVP three straight years. Okay?

That being said, here's what's fascinating about Luca. He's only 25 now. But in his first, he accomplished more in his first four years in the league than Larry Bird did because Byrd came in the last. the league later. Just as many players did, Michael Jordan came into the league later. And that's why when you look at the tracking numbers, Luca is ahead of all-time greats like Jordan and Byrd when it comes to MVP's and points per game and blah, blah, blah. Like, Luca's already accomplished it. I'm just going to go through

it real quick. So he's the rookie of the year, obviously, at 19. His second year, at age 20, he was fourth in MVP voting. In his second year in the league, Larry Bird was still in college. He was still riding a lawnmower in the off-season. Luca Donchich, at 20, was fourth in the MVP voting. At 21, he was sixth. At 22, he was fifth. Then he was eighth. This year, he was third.

Five straight years, Luca Donchich has finished top ten in the MVP. And I know, the old heads are going to be like, he can't touch Larry Bird. I've referenced Tribe a lot with Aaron Rogers here in the last two days. You guys know how it is. People are wedded to their era. And, you know, Alex is a music person. She knows this. Whatever music you were listening to growing up, you have an affinity for.

It is the best. I grew up 80s music. I love 80s, okay? I'm too embarrassed to post my workout mix. But a lot of it, when I go to the gym and I'm throwing the plates around, it's a lot of 80s stuff. It gets me pumped up. I mean, a lot of, like, rap, you know, obviously. Sorry, Team Drake.

But, like, I like 80s music. So a lot of people who started to watch basketball. 80s who were young kids are influenced by the 80s and they say oh no way anybody's better than magic better than larry bird are you kidding me better than jorda get the hell out of those people basketball influence them i watched 80s NBA i watched 90s i'm not saying i'm like smart enough but i it's very obvious that the players today are vastly superior than they were back in the day Folks, we don't do this in the NFL. We don't do this with airplanes.

We don't do this with technology. Just about everything is better now than it was for medicine, technical advancements, workout training, regiment, diet, everything. It's simply improved as opposed to 20, 30 years ago. So it's not that hot of a take to say, yeah, Luca's on track to be better than bird. Now, I can't say he's better than him. And Alex, I know you would even blush it. Like, you can't, it's tough for me to say better than Larry Bird.

But not yet. You can't do that. Like, it's, Larry was it, it's like comparing to like a Magic Johnson, uh, Kobe. Like, these are guys that are like forever going to be some of the greats that brought the game to where it is. And it's, it's what we do. You compare, right? when you have a young star rising up because you want comps. But like it's a good compliment.

Say he's like a Larry Bird. That's cool. But he can't say he's better than. The things I can say is that I feel confident in saying is he's got more to his game than Bird. Okay. Because he was a different game now. It's a different game. It's a completely different game.

Larry Bird wasn't shooting 28 foot step back three pointers. Like Luca can do that on the reg. It's not a big deal. I think his vision is there with Magic Johnson. I'm sorry. I know the Magic Johnson highlight reel is amazing. Luca could do those passes. I love Magic's my favorite player.

And then Steph Curry came along and I was like, I got a ride with Chris. I love Steph Curry. I mean, he's my cousin. We have the same last name. Oh, obviously, yes, yes, yes. All right.
