This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

Here we go. It's hour two. It is a Friday. We are live in Los Angeles. It's the herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1, Washington World Series last night. I'm reading an article by Tyler Kettner of the New York Times.
He's a great baseball writer for a long time about the Houston pitching staff.
It's just Philadelphia is struggling to get hit.
It's hard to get hits.
The Astros pitching staff this year held opponents to a 2-12 average.
I mean, that's insane.
That would win you're the world, too.
Well, the Phillies, you know, they had that game where they knocked out five home runs,
but you're getting a good point now where they're not consistently,
if you don't get the long ball, you need rallies, you need multiple hits.
Can you win two in Houston?
That's a tall order.
We don't have to, well, we said before the series,
Philadelphia was the better story.
Houston was probably the better team.
I would agree.
So the better team looks like they got an edge.
Well, Jason, he's on a consistent heater.
I'm on a three-week heater where actually the bets have fallen.
And I've said this year, I like underdogs.
Scoring is down from two years ago.
Last time we checked about a touchdown game.
So points become more and more valuable.
So I've never, I've just taken underdogs.
This week I have five more underdogs I like.
and three or four of the five picks I love, so here we go.
That's a hot one.
Let's blaze it up.
Fire it up.
It's Collins blazing five.
Colts and Patriots.
I'm going to take the Colts in an upset plus four and a half to win.
Five of their six games have been decided by one possession.
Their defense has held opponents under 400 yards in every game.
Only six teams in the league have done that.
Their defense is not the issue, and the Patriots have four wins,
but they've beaten Zach Wilson, Jacoby Brissette, Jared Gough, and Mitch Trubisky.
They're not blowing people away.
And in the last three starts, Mack Jones has been awful.
He is regressing.
A 64 passer rating in his last three games, there's no way I can give up four and a half points.
I'm going to take the Colts and the points, and I think they're going to win an ugly, ugly game 24 to 23.
Chargers at Falcons.
This is one of the games I really like.
I like Atlanta Plus 3.
runs the football. Eil Marcus Marioo is funny. When he doesn't get hurt, he's really good.
Three straight games, passer rating over 100. Their number five in rushing, their last three weeks,
Marioata's been excellent. Seven touchdowns, passer rating of 123. They run the ball a lot,
and the Chargers defense allows almost 5.7 yards of carry. It's the worst in the league.
So Atlanta's run game against the Chargers run defense. Also, Keenan now,
still banged up and Mike Williams and Josh Palmer so they're receiving corps banged up.
Chargers aren't scoring a lot of points these days. I'm going to take Atlanta to beat him,
take the points. 3027 Falkers.
Vikings at Commanders. I'm going to take the commanders at home plus a field goal. Tyler Heineke,
say what you want. They're better with him. I was a Carson Wentz guy, but they're better with
Heineke. And the defense, this three-game winning streak, the defense playing well for the
commanders, five takeaways. So they're taking the ball away. Ron Rivera loves that.
You look at him during the three-game streak.
he's given you 92 passer rating.
The defense has taken the ball away.
And each of the five wins during the Vikings winning streak have all been by one possession.
And they don't have a lot of big plays this year.
Vikings, and that's why they maybe got Tyler Hawkinson, T.J. Hawkinson is because
Justin Jefferson, people are clamping down on him.
And so the Vikings are 30th in the NFL in big plays.
I'm going to take the points.
And now it's crazy.
And also, team may get sold.
Maybe people are fired up in that locker.
locker room to positive locker room, should be. Washington wins over a team I like,
2824 commanders.
Seahawks said Cardinals.
I don't understand the line. I didn't understand it when they played a few weeks ago.
I'm going to take Seattle on the points. They're a better team.
And they're a young team getting better every week. Seattle plus one and a half.
The defense the last three weeks has been top five in the league in multiple categories.
They're a super young team. What does that mean?
These young guys are just figuring out how to play. They're getting better every week.
I mean, how many rookies are playing for this team?
Charles Cross, Abraham Lucas, Kenneth Walker, Kobe Bryant, Tariq Wulin.
They're all playing great and they're all getting better week to week.
And the Cardinals' scoring defense is 30th and the Cardinals' offense.
You know, for all the talent, less than five yards of play.
Seattle wins the game.
Seattle's a better team.
2420.
Heck, Arizona plays better on the road most of the time.
I'm going to take the Seahawks to go on the road and win here.
Ravens at Saints.
plus two and a half. Monday night football in New Orleans.
That's crazy loud. That's a big home field advantage.
The Saints over the last month have 14 offensive touchdowns.
That leads the league. Is that crazy?
It's a different offense recently and the Ravens are all beat up again.
Gus Edwards. J.K. Dobbins, Mark Andrews, Rashad Bateman.
I read this morning, I think he's out for the year.
Lamar Jackson was okay recently in the fourth quarter,
but Lamar has struggled a lot in the fourth quarter.
I have a hard time betting against New Orleans.
These big standalone games in New Orleans, I think it's the loudest stadium in the league.
Baltimore is talented.
They're beat up.
They have not finished games generally that well this season.
I'm going to take New Orleans to beat them 3024.
Dogs are barking.
I'm taking five underdogs.
Atlanta's my favorite play of the weekend, which, you know, I'm just jinx myself there.
I just see seven straight prime time games.
Don't care.
Woo-hoo!
Hey, you've got to have courage on this show.
You have guts.
I like a couple of those picks.
I think we'll revisit at least two of them.
I'll say this.
Isn't it crazy, though, the commanders, those players read, they're going to sell the team.
I mean, there could be a lot of guys in there like, all right, three-game winning streak.
It's also weird.
As much as I like Carson Wentz, they play better with Taylor Heineke.
I'm trying to get in the head of Washington players.
if you heard FS1 was getting sold, how would that impact your show?
Well, if it was a owner I did not like, I wouldn't be in a great mood coming to work.
I mean, seriously.
I mean, I don't know.
I think Washington, you know, we thought that was the worst division in football.
Giants are good.
Dallas's defense are crazy.
Philadelphia could be the best team in the league.
Washington.
They're in the wild card mix firmly.
Oh, no question.
In the NFC.
Green Bay is falling out of it every week.
I mean, Green Bay is going this direction.
Washington's going that direction.
Eric Mangini, three years, Jets coach, a couple of years in Cleveland, three rings with the Niners.
So we were talking about this is that I said, I picked Miami to be a wild card team,
but I could see them going up to Buffalo, Baltimore, Cincinnati, or Arrowhead,
and it's blowing sideways, and here's Tua, who doesn't throw much of a deep ball.
But then I think to myself, well, they do a lot of short stuff,
and bubble screens and maybe they don't need the deep ball.
Do you buy Miami?
Like, do you see them as a team that could win multiple playoff games?
Well, here's the first thing that I learned about Super Bowls and playoffs is it's like Fight Club.
You don't talk about it.
I don't love it, too, is talking about it.
I think that's problematic.
They're explosive offensively, but they're fairly one-dimensional.
And I think there's real issues.
when you look at the course of their season,
they probably shouldn't have beaten Buffalo.
They shouldn't have beaten Buffalo.
Buffalo played them in every aspect of that game.
They shouldn't really beat in Baltimore.
The Detroit games tied at halftime,
and two is really one hit away from not being in there.
So you love the ability to score points and be explosive.
It just seems like there's a lot of limiting factors,
and now they're starting to buy into the hype sum,
which I think is a mistake too.
Yeah.
So, you know, it's interesting.
on the Zach Wilson stuff, and you had your reservations.
But, you know, I got, you know, Greg CoSell saying,
listen, he's struggling with simple stuff.
And Mark Sanchez came on yesterday for eight minutes and broke it down.
And he's a fan of him.
And he's like, Colin, this stuff is, these are easy reads.
These are planting your foot and make the throws.
He's bailing on the pocket.
He's not reading simple stuff.
You know, I'll ask you this question again.
Robert Salas appears to be doing his part, the defense, the energy.
Am I crazy here?
Do you think there are people in that building?
that are sitting already going,
we may have to do this again.
We may have to get another guy.
Yeah, 100%.
And look, it could even be the owner who's saying that.
When you look at this team,
Zach Wilson for a few weeks wasn't the problem.
He didn't help, but he wasn't the problem.
And then last week, he's the problem.
And when you've got the rest of the team developing,
emerging, competing,
and you've got guys like Mike White and Joe Flacco,
not that they're necessarily superstars,
but they give you some potential upside.
It's not going to be that long before they're talking about,
you're sitting him down,
and I'm sure there's internal discussions as to whether or not he is the answer,
and then it doesn't look like any kind of progress he's made
is saying that he is.
Yeah. You know, you know, these teams like Green Bay
didn't make a move of the deadline.
And they probably should have gotten Chase Claypool, but Chicago in their division did.
And I liked his body type with Mooney.
I think it's a good.
It's going to work.
What should I expect?
If you were coaching them, you have Justin Fields.
Doesn't always have great protection, all right?
How much do you give him with Chase Claypool in the first couple of weeks?
Do you bring, like McCaffrey with Garoppolo, they just threw it.
We're going to go all in second game.
Would this be a slower process?
what should I expect with Claypool and the Bears?
Yeah, look, I hated this trade.
I thought that I haven't liked what the Bears have done at all in terms of getting rid of two really good defensive players.
And then you've got Justin Fields.
To me, they should be like the Ravens.
They should embrace him as a runner and the quarterback's driven runs and things like that.
He's getting set, Colin, at a historic rate.
I think he's sixth all time right now in terms of sack percentage.
and he's only had 15 completions or less in every single game he's played.
So you go and get a guy like Claypool,
and now you're going to try to force the ball to him.
And I don't think that helps the Bears,
and I don't think it really helps Justin Fields.
But you've got to justify the trade.
You've got to show everybody the value that he adds.
I think there'll be multiple plays in the first 15 to try to get him the ball,
and then there'll be multiple plays throughout the course of the game
to make sure that he gets the ball so that this trade is justified as opposed to, you know, being of real value.
Yeah.
Did it bother you that Green Bay didn't outbid Chicago because apparently the Packers were in it?
No, no.
That wouldn't have made sense to me either, Colin.
You've got a guy like Devante who you let leave the building.
He's got great chemistry with the quarterback because you don't want to pay him.
And then you're going to go out and trade for a guy that you're going to have to turn around and overpay.
And he's a 60 reception player a year.
It doesn't make sense.
And that's another one that when you're looking at a big picture and long term,
how do you justify this move when you make the move that you did in the offseason and trade away Devante?
Here's the way I justify it.
I got two more years left of Aaron.
And we in a weapons league, we just don't have enough good players.
We have to have another playmaker.
That would be my justification.
See, I would have gone and got Huckinson.
So now you bring a guy who actually can help you in the running game.
That's going to help Aaron.
He helps you in the shorter passing game.
He's reliable.
He's been a pro-bo.
He's a good player.
They're going to have to maybe draft a tight end next year anyways.
But you go add a player like that who gives you elements in both the run and pass game.
I think that helps more than an ad like Claypool would.
Now, would you, if you ran the Niners, because I love the McCaffrey,
deal and my takeaway was you can't get a deal on everything in life. If you want Apple stock and you
like their products, you like the iPhone and your kids have them and I want to get some Apple stock.
You're not going to get a perfect price. You want to buy a Tesla? You're not going to get it on a
discount. Sometimes you like something and it helps you. You buy it. And so I didn't, I didn't lose a lot of
sleep. I mean, I think McCaffrey with Kyle's offense and Elijah Mitchell, it's just a lot of, it's hard
to defend. They can do a lot of stuff. But a lot of people did not like what they surrendered.
How did you feel about it?
Yeah, unfortunately, I've bought a lot of stock in the last six months that haven't met at a price that I like it at this point.
But I like this trade.
I like this trade for so many reasons is because when you've got a guy like McCaffrey, he's dangerous on a checkdown.
You don't even have to design plays for him.
As a defensive coordinator, you're dealing with the problem players.
and when a player like McCaffrey who can just catch a checkdown and create issues, it changes everything.
You've got to know where he is at all times.
And then they can do so many different things with them.
And so now in offense that's already creative, already uses guys in versatile ways and creative ways, adds another component to that.
And also a player with when you're not creative and when Jimmy just needs a checkdown has a chance to go 35.
40 or for a touchdown. I thought great, great decision at this point and it's worth the cost.
So Jalen Hertz, we all had our doubt, second round quarterback. How surprised are you? It's a little
Josh Allen where doubters, we see something. Wow. Like in year three, it's wow. What do you make of it?
I really like listening to him. I really like his approach. As much as people are talking about being
undefeated.
You and I talk about quarterbacks and immaturity issues with quarterbacks all the time.
To me, he's the polar opposite of that.
And he's got great perspective in terms of where they are.
He's got great perspective in terms of where they want to go and looking at things,
you know, game by game moment by moment.
I was skeptical going into it, but I've been sold on what he's done.
And now they've got a plus 15 giveaway takeaway ratio.
Wow.
which is pretty much unheard of in the NFL.
And it's because of his good decision making and leadership.
It's a lot to like there.
Okay, so the trading deadline, Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins and Claypool,
some of these you're not a fan of, free agents, and I don't remember the number,
but I think it's something like 33% of them, you know, really click.
And a lot don't, right?
Because there's expectations.
You know, the fans go crazy.
the coach wants to prove the deals right,
you force them into something.
Were you a fan of bringing somebody in in season,
especially somebody who is going to be highly compensated?
There's a lot of guys in that room that are like,
when am I getting my money?
That guy's not part of the thing.
So I mean, as a coach, can it be a little,
I mean, we all love it.
I love free agency.
It's so much fun, right?
It's like fantasy football.
Did you love it, though, as a coach?
The issue with free agency was it was far from free.
and you typically overpaid for guys.
Right.
And then there's this expectation that goes with it where because you paid him X millions of dollars,
he suddenly becomes a different player than what you went and got.
And that's not true.
The market just dictated that you had to pay him that much money.
And then there's them trying to simulate in the locker room,
learn the system, feel comfortable.
And typically, it took longer than anybody wanted to before the player that you went and got
is really the player that shows up in your locker room.
Now, with a guy like Bradley Chubb, who gets a gigantic deal,
there could be some resentment in that locker room for that.
But pass rush is a position of need,
or is an area of need right now for the Dolphins,
and they're in an arms race with all the teams in the AFC.
So guys who also want to win, say, okay, let's see what he does,
and we're happy to get him.
Now, it may be more resentful next year, though, Colin.
Yeah. Now, it's obviously it was the trade deadline, but what you're doing is you're acquiring pieces in high-profile pieces.
Roquan Smith, Bradley Chubb, Chubb got a contract an hour later.
Christian McCaffrey, big money into a locker room.
So I do sense that at the trade deadline, we, the media, I'm guilty of it.
I like it way more than it produces, right?
Because I've heard these free agent numbers and these big trade numbers.
And, you know, I can look at some trade deadlines in the last five years.
And I think you've made an interesting point with the bears.
you want to prove that the deal is good.
And a GM will be like, no, I think it's a real point.
Like, you know some of these owners and they want to prove the trade, the free agency.
It's like a real thing that we don't talk about.
It's a real thing.
And when you've got an owner and you're spending a bunch of his money and you're leveraging things in the future,
you've got to justify that.
We all have bosses.
And when you make a decision and you make a decision that affects a lot of his money,
he's going to want to be able to sit back and see, okay, there's value on this investment.
There's return on this investment.
And it affects your legitimacy to be able to go make deals in the future.
Yeah.
So you put Philadelphia, do you put them in the, I do.
I think they look like Kansas City and Buffalo where they're not just winning games.
They can kind of do the avalanche thing, where they can kind of overpower teams.
They just look different.
I think Philadelphia, Buffalo, Kansas City, Eric, look a little different.
they look more powerful a little bit more dynamic yeah and with philadelphia there's so many guys
that that other teams didn't want that that have found a home in philadelphia however they
they got through a trade or whatever the way it was but they all seem to be fitting in really
well together and playing really well together and there's value that they're not as hyped as
kansas city they're not as hyped as buffalo that that's a nice thing i was talking to
a Philadelphia fan yesterday who was disappointed that his team doesn't get more attention.
But the reality is it's great from a coaching and player perspective cannot be the team that's
always talked about every single day like a Kansas City or Buffalo.
Yeah.
Because that pressure is real.
It's palatable.
And you can't get away from it because it's happening at home.
It's everywhere.
So to keep it lower right now is a good thing for Philly fans and for Philadelphia, not a bad thing.
Yeah.
So the trade deadlines.
lot of fun. It's big stars. They often get in town. They sign big contracts. It's a dice roll.
I'm really interested. You don't like Chase Claypool. I do, so I can't wait. I like it.
I don't dislike Chase Claypool, the player. I just dislike the fit. And I dislike the idea that
you're trading away defensive players with a running quarterback and not embracing who he is like
Baltimore does and owning that identity. Yeah. All right. We'll see. I'm going to be right on that one.
come back and kind of eat some crow.
Hey, have a good weekend, Coach.
I'm good weekend, Coach.
All right, we'll talk to you soon.
Yeah, it is.
I mean, I like all this stuff.
I mean, one of the, remember baseball?
We used to talk a lot about the hot stove league, right?
And that was, and then in the NBA, we have rumors that go on for six months.
I mean, we talk about this Westbrook thing forever.
And in the NFL, suddenly, you don't even get the rumors.
Guys just show up on different.
I mean, Tuesday, it's like none of those we'd heard about.
Trade deadline stuff.
And then basically you bring them in in the trade.
And in a lot of instances, they get contracts pretty quickly.
So if you go look at the history of the NFL, because in basketball, if I score 20 a game and I join your team, you do kind of mostly know.
I always feel like kind of what you get.
In the NFL, it's really offensive choreography.
How does this player fit with your playbook?
How does he?
So I think in the NFL, a lot of times historically, free agent moves.
A lot with trade deadline moves.
You got the front office trying to make sure it looks like it works.
You have four stuff.
I love it.
But if you go look at the NFL when you bring a big star in, however you bring him in, there's a lot of misses.
You wouldn't think so because they're in the league.
Right?
It's not like college.
Like the draft, you get busts.
You don't know who can play.
But in the NFL, if you're a linebacker and I watch your film and I'm like, guys, great.
Like Fred Warner would obviously work anywhere, right?
like the Niners guy. He's all over the field.
Earl Thomas in his prime.
There's guys that'll work Ray Lewis in his prime.
But Chase Claypool's not one of those guys, right?
He's not a guaranteed super.
You know, I mean, he had a really good rookie year, but his numbers have tapered off a little bit.
So I think it's a fascinating move.
I like it.
Mangini says they'll force him.
Do you like it?
I love it, yeah.
I'm a Chase Claypool guy.
I don't know.
Mangini wasn't really clear what he doesn't like about it.
He thinks they're going to force the use.
They should just let Justin run around.
Well, we'll see.
Is that sustainable?
Well, I don't know.
Has it ever been sustainable in the history of the NFL?
One more herd?

What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.

The defensive magic of Chas McCormick.
The Astros took a crucial game five to get Justin Verlander, his first first.
career World Series win.
Tomorrow, the World Series heads back to Houston, where the Astros are one win away from
securing the title, while Bryce Harper and the Phillies fight to force game seven.
Coverage of Game 6th of the World Series begins tomorrow at 630 Eastern 330 Pacific, only on
Fox and the Fox Sports Act.
Good luck getting hits.
I was looking at this this morning.
Eight teams in the NFL are going to take a quarterback in the draft.
Oh, come on.
No, no, no.
Eight.
Let me name them.
Washington's going to draft quarterback.
Of course they are.
Yes.
Detroit?
They're one in six.
Atlanta, New Orleans, Carolina.
I don't know about New Orleans.
Atlanta, probably, Carolina, definitely.
Seattle's going to take a quarterback.
I don't know, Colin.
In the first round or just overall?
Well, they'll take, they have two first round pick, so you don't think Seattle would take a quarter?
Well, it looks like they're not going to be drafting high.
They do have Denver's pick, but we think Denver's going to go on a run.
I think the best quarterbacks will be gone.
I actually posted a mock draft for Fox Sports digitally this week.
I had four quarterbacks in the first round.
Pendon Hooker going to the Colts at 15.
Colts are drafted a quarterback.
Okay, so I think this is, so I think Washington, Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans, Carolina,
Seattle.
Seattle's got two first, two seconds.
I think they're taking a quarterback in those first four picks, the Colts and the Texans.
You might be missing a green and white team.
Well, no, no, I said.
then I have five teams.
So 40% of the league
discussions in the building.
Yeah.
The Jets.
We might have to cross Falcons off.
They do have Desmond Ritter that they drafted.
We haven't seen him yet.
Desmond Ritter, Marietta.
No.
Okay.
All right.
Are you building the team to win a Super Bowl?
But again,
you've got to have like a top five, top ten pick.
So Derek Carr, for instance,
they gave him kind of a flimsy.
His dead cap money if they moved off is not very much,
like $5 million or something.
So, and if they go on this losing streak, there's going to be people in the building.
He's been there nine years, even though he's had like, I think, I think six coaches.
It's been a mess.
But it's interesting.
Zach Wilson's the one for me that you think it's only been a year and a half.
But Greg CoSell, this guy's been watching film for 40 years.
So we know in this league, as it's become more quarterback-centric, you got a guy or you don't.
And you're going to get fired if you give him enough.
year. And Robert Solomon may never, he may never get another coaching jobs. They're not going to sit
around and wait and give him a third year. And so, you know, I ask Greg Cocella. I'm like,
what is the tape say with Zach Wilson of the Jets? I think the film shows that he doesn't see the
field with the needed clarity at this point. I think he needs to settle down as a pocket quarterback.
A couple of things stand out on film. He's too lazy and slow with his drop and set into the pocket.
That needs to get quicker. He's much.
too reactive to what he perceives as pressure, but is not pressure by NFL standards.
So he needs to develop a far better sense of pocket feel and presence.
He's too frenetic.
He moves too much.
His feet, while they're really light and athletic, need to settle down.
The details of the position are really need work.
And right now he's a little bit of a chaotic player.
And we had Mark Sanchez on.
We don't have a bite, but we had Mark on last, yesterday,
last segment, right?
Yep.
For like seven, eight minutes, four pieces of tape.
And the simple stuff for Zach Wilson, the easy stuff is hard.
Now, obviously, the hard stuff, Mahomes makes look easy.
But that's Mahomes a superstar.
But I always worry when like the easy stuff, the layups are hard.
And for Zach Wilson, like underneath stuff, just plant your foot and get it there.
I don't know.
I was not a huge fan out of college.
You know, again, I've been wrong a lot on quarterbacks.
I've been right a few times.
But let me ask, you're Robert Salah.
This is your big break.
You're doing your part, defense run game.
So he's done his part as a coach.
You're going to give this another year?
Because New York will blow you out, this organization, these owners,
they're not going to give you three and four years.
They have a history of blowing guys out?
Here is the case to see more Zach Wilson.
If you look at pro football focus, they can strip out the numbers.
How is he against pressure?
He's feeling a lot of pressure.
They've got one of the worst offensive lines in the league.
Fair.
He's the worst quarterback in the league under pressure.
Just turnover play.
He's a disaster.
He's running for his life.
But when he's not under pressure sitting in the pocket,
he's like a league average quarterback.
So then the question is, can you get him a left tackle?
Can you bolster the line when Vera Tucker comes back?
Do they give him a Kai Becht in another shot?
If the pieces are around him and he's got time in the pocket,
can he be a good quarter?
You're a Jets fan.
If it still looks like this at the end of the year,
would you give him another year?
Well, you have to.
He's on the rookie deal.
But I'm not taking a quarterback in the first round.
No, I'm going for Derek Carr.
No, I'm saying, would you draft another quarterback?
I'm not saying you're going to go.
Would you draft another quarterback?
I would go sooner free agency.
They've had only rookie guys forever.
Young guys, they're not getting it done.
Colin, they need to try for a Derek Carr.
They need to make a move for a Jimmy Garapolo,
a veteran who's a 28 to 30-year-old who's going to be a grown-up
and has seen pressure and all this stuff.
Because, like you said, special teams of defense is there for the Jets.
All right.
You don't like it, do you?
And we'll say, well, I don't know.
I just don't like what I see.
J. Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Let's go to a young quarterback who is doing a good job.
Jalen Hertz.
Eagles 8-0 now.
Beat the Texans, no cover.
Should be noted.
A.J. Brown talked about how the team is not worried about chasing a perfect record.
I think we're winning going 1-0 every week.
But we're not stuck on a number.
We're just trying to win every week.
This bleep is hard.
Prime example.
the first half.
They took the ball out of our hand, running the ball.
We've got to find a way to adjust.
We're not getting caught up trying to be perfect.
That's not even a conversation right now.
We're just trying to win.
Find a win.
He's great.
AJ Brown.
AJ Brown is very good.
You know who's very good?
Jalen hurts, man.
You get him number one offensive line.
Did you see last night, two, fourth down, I think he was two for two.
Red zone.
He did have the fumble in the Red zone.
When you get him in situation, what I'm saying is when you see him in these
situations.
Like fourth and short, red zone.
He is so dynamic.
Yeah.
Even if it's not a perfect play,
he is such a dynamic player in those spaces.
Yeah.
He looks good.
He's making plays.
I mean, this was a guy who was a high school superstar,
college superstar.
Didn't he lose, like, one game in Alabama?
Well, he went.
They promoted to it.
Then Lincoln Riley went and got him,
and he put up gigantic number.
I was a total doubter at Oklahoma.
I was like, it's just Lincoln Riley.
I totally doubted him.
This is a small thing,
but did you see how open that he?
Eagles receivers were last night?
I mean, three, four yards of space.
Everybody's wide open pitch and catch.
Hertz looks like an MVP candidate, Colin.
Next up, let's go to another great quarterback.
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, you may have forgot this.
Last year, the Titans murdered them.
273.
That was like kind of the low watermark for Patrick Mahomes.
The defenses have solved him.
And now he wants revenge.
The five and two chiefs are not taking the Titans lightly heading into the Sunday
matchup.
Mahomes said, last year, we weren't ready, and they beat our,
bleep, a lot of curse words today.
Per Haley Lewis of NBC.
This is a team that is a lot better than I think people on social media think.
We know that it is a great football team coming to town, so we have to play our best.
Colin, lines creeping up.
I know.
I love Mike Vrable.
Mike Vrable, a couple weeks ago, there was a show, a connecting point with him and one of his offensive linemen in the tonne.
in the tunnel and he got super emotional
and the player was crying on his shoulder.
I think Brable is one of the most
likable guys in the league. He's a tough
old school guy, but I love him. He just
I never feel like he has enough
pieces offensively.
And I feel like he overachieves every
year for his offensive personnel.
Every year I feel they're better than they should
be. I think Brable's fantastic.
Is he the new Mike Tomlin? Remember, Mike Tomlin as an
underdog was awesome. It still is pretty good.
But Braybill right now is a dog. Mike Tomlin
had big band, star receipt.
Mike Tomlin's had great offensive players.
It always feels like the Titans are a player shy offensively.
It looks like no Ryan Tanyhill this week.
So now Derek Henry is going into Arrowhead with Malik Willis.
Well, he's a young kid.
Let's see him play.
Under center. Lines up to 12 and a half.
Finally, let's go back to Zach Wilson because your audience loves talking about the Jets.
It's taking a lot of flack for the Patriots debacle this weekend against the Buffalo Bills.
It will be difficult, but we've got to monitor those bills injuries.
However, Josh Allen offered some words of support to his opponent.
Yeah.
Here's what he had to say.
It's a guy trying to make a play.
And I was at that same position.
I threw three picks against the Patriots my second year.
And that's kind of the game where it all clicked for me after that game.
So he's a guy that guys can get behind and really follow.
Sometimes, again, it takes a little longer.
It took me a while.
kind of understand the nuances of this game and trying not to do too much.
So I think that's kind of what it comes down to of not trying to do too much
and allowing you to trust your guys on the field with you.
And I don't want to give too much advice, you know, before we play them.
So maybe next week we can have a more, a longer talk.
All right.
I'm done talking jets.
Well, hold on.
Your staff put together a nice side-by-side.
First two seasons.
Oh, boy.
Josh Allen.
Zach Wilson.
What do you see there, Colin?
I don't want to get it. I don't want to get into it.
I like the headband.
The Mormon Mahomes.
Yeah, one has 30 touchdown passes. The other has 12.
Wilson's been heard, but I digress.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
You know, it is interesting.
You come into these seasons, and we thought Tom Brady was going to be this, this, this,
and Tom Brady has just had a personal strife.
And we thought Matt Stafford of the Rams were going to be this.
this and the Matt Stafford Rams are a mess.
The offensive line's been hurt.
We thought Joe Burrow was going to be this, and then they've been up and down.
And last week they got hammered on Monday Night Football by rival Cleveland.
And it's, you know, overreaction Monday, but this stuff is hard.
And even for really, really high-end quarterbacks, Brady and Stafford and Burrow.
I mean, Lamar Jackson has struggled in the fourth quarter of some games.
I mean, you saw it last night.
At one point, I'm watching this thing.
It's like 17-17, Philadelphia, Houston.
And you like, what was the score?
I think they were tied at 17 at one point.
You know who's better.
But Houston's up there, you know, getting outplayed.
But you're like, well, they're tied.
This stuff is hard.
Bad teams can hang around for a long time in the NFL.

But like this weekend, Bama is going to face LSU and Tennessee and Georgia are going to play.
And that game, those two games will look different than every other game because there'll be more NFL players on the field.
We've just got to be honest about this.
The SEC is easily the best conference.
If you look at their bowl record, their first round picks over the last 10 years,
I think they've played in like 14 of the last 15 national championships.
I like the Big Ten.
There's no third best team.
Ohio State and Michigan are excellent.
Who's the third best team?
Illinois?
Go look at that riveting nine, six, win over Iowa,
they're a total fraud.
I mean, you've got to give their coach credit.
They've won, but look at who they've played.
There is no third best team.
Penn State?
Michigan dissected them.
At one point, it was 18 first downs to one.
It was a total landslide.
It was not remotely competitive at all.
That's not a third best.
team in a conference. I like the Big Ten, but it is really heavily weighted on Michigan and Ohio State.
It's not very deep. Right now in the SEC, and you're going to see those two games this weekend,
and they're just going to look different. Tennessee's number one, Georgia's two, Bamas III, LSU.
Ole Miss is the fifth best team in the conference. Ole Miss is ranked 11th in the country.
They're the fifth best team in the SEC. So they have five of the top 11 teams. Now the PAC 12 has
five teams ranked. Not all in the top 11.
And when you watch old misplay, you can see NFL bodies everywhere and a coach who was coached in the NFL.
So I think it's a weird space.
It used to be where if you gave people data or you gave them proof or you gave them numbers,
people just said, okay, I lost the argument.
How many years does the SEC have to dominate the first round of the NFL draft,
dominate the national championship playoff, dominate recruiting rankings?
Go look at the top seven or eight recruiting classes every year.
It's all SEC guys.
Now all of a sudden out of the blue it's Tennessee.
And I don't know how good they are.
They're going to score a lot of points.
Hen and Hooker's fun to watch.
But when you watch Tennessee and you watch them play Georgia,
you're going to be looking at NFL athletes all over that field.
It will not look like a Pac-12 game.
It just won't.
And you know me.
I'm a West Coast Pac-12 guy.
It will not look like a Pac-12 game.
USC is a very good team.
They have one NFL player defensively in their front seven.
one NFL player.
Georgia in their front seven probably has six.
They may have seven for seven.
So my guess is everybody in the world's betting Tennessee,
so I'll probably take Georgia and everybody loves Bama.
I'm going to go with Bama.
I think Bama's underrated at this point.
So I think Bama is going to beat LSU probably by 10.
And I think Georgia's going to slip past Tennessee.
It'll be very, very close.
But I think everybody's betting Tennessee.
They're the hot team.
They're fun to watch.
The hooker's a great story.
I'm going to take Georgia.
Yeah.
Hey, listen, we're a Big Ten.
We're a Big Ten network.
So I, but you notice who we put on a lot, Michigan, because they're really good.
And I think this is by, for the record, I think this is the best Michigan team Harba's had.
In terms of speed, I finally look at Michigan and think, I think they can run with the Tennessee's, Bamas, and Georgia.
They, they've always had some muscle, but you never quite felt on the corners they could keep up with them.
I think maybe this team can.
Maybe.
Well, I know you're not going to want to hear this, but USC has no defense at all.
But I guarantee you that that offense with Caleb Williams will be able to keep up with Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
They can score on those guys.
They've got pros all over the place.
Caleb Williams, probably top five pick next year.
Yeah, but you got to stop.
You got to stop people.
They can't get stops.
They will not be able to get stops.
No, no.
And by the way, this will probably be Lincoln Riley's worst team, his worst roster.
Not his worst team.
Caleb Williams is so good.
Alabama couldn't stop Tennessee.
They scored 52 points every time up and down the field.
Well, that's, you know, and again, it's, Tennessee is always one of these programs.
It's the classic sleeping giant.
Like the last 15 years, you think they're going to be good because they recruit good players.
They've had a lot of pros.
And this is not a knock in any of your conference, but it's like, it used to be, you could give people proof.
And people would be like, okay.
It's like, just watch Georgia and Tennessee play and watch Alabama LSU play.
And, you know, you're going to see NFL dudes everywhere.
I don't understand.
People are like selling their Alabama stock.
when Bryce Young is 100% healthy, they're going to be fine.
I think what's almost more interesting is everybody's kind of selling Ohio State a little bit.
They have not looked dominant.
They lost to Michigan last year.
Marvin Harrison looks amazing.
And when they get the other kid, Jackson Smith, Nijima, back, those two receivers can beat any defense.
And their defense look really good against Penn State.
Colin, I think this Ohio State team almost, there could be some value on them betting them to win the national title right now.
I think they're going to have their hands full with Michigan.
I think Michigan's going to, everybody is just, because Michigan won last year,
everybody's just said Ohio State's winning this year.
I'd be very careful about that.
Maybe we'll have to side.
I think Michigan, side to side.
Watch Michigan, if they can run on Ohio State, you take that ball out of Stroud's hands
and those receivers' hands.
That's how to beat Ohio State.
Take the ball away, make them defend the run.
Hour three next.
