breaking. Whoa. March moves matter. Live in LA, it's the herd wherever you may be. Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio, FS-1. How does anybody retire from what I do? What would I be doing today with all this stuff going on if I didn't do this? You would be out in the garden? The best place in the world to be right now is our chair. This has been a really incredible couple weeks. If you were in Denver this morning and you're a stockbroker or a car salesman, or would you rather be talking about this all day? Well, yes, we have amazing jobs. This is the best.

So Denver, it's official. I'm telling you, Dallas, this is not good. Randy Gregory is a tough block. When he is healthy, he is unblockable one-on-one. Denver just got him. And DJ Jones, who is a massively disruptive interior defensive lineman, Niners to Denver. And as Peter Schreger said, this is the LeBron, Russell, Wilson, Tom Brady effect,

the Peyton Manning effect, players look around and go, I want to go win games. Boy, Denver is something else. Wow. How would you like to live in Denver today? You are high-fiving. What a day. In myel high. No, it's, I mean, this is what happens when you get a franchise quarterback.

People want to go play with him. I mean, it's like when LeBron went to Miami, Shane Badiere's like, I'll take less. Ray Allen, I'll take less. I want Mike Miller. It's more fun to win when you're in a competitive business. And by the way, I'll get to this in a second. So J.C. Jackson, five years, $82 million for the Chargers. So the Chargers have not been freewheeling and big spenders, but they have Justin Herbert,

and this is the recipe. When you have a quarterback who's really good, starts early, year two and year three, before you pay them in year four or five, open up the checkbook and go get players. So the Chargers have gone off brand. They're spending big money. I like both the moves. So here's the truth. There's two truths about free agency.

Number one, and everybody's like free agency's hit and miss. The biggest spenders do get better. In the last six years, the biggest spending team in free agency has averaged five wins better. Last year, the Patriots improved by three, the dolphins the year improved by five, jets, three, bear seven, jags seven, Giants, five. This whole thing about it just wasted money. No, no, no, no. On average, you get five games better if you spend the most money. New England needed production, and they went and bought it.

And they were better with a rookie quarterback. Okay, that's the first thing. So if you spend money, I mean, I think Jacksonville overpaid for everybody. But there will be better. They went and got productive NFL players. They're not crossing their fingers on, you know, college receivers. The second truth is, even if you know, if you have a really good free agency class.

Not everybody hits. The Patriots are a great example. Matt Judon hit. Kendrick Bourne, excellent value. Nelson Aguilar, not worth the money. Again, John O'Smith started okay. Hunter Henry. Yeah, it was kind of worth it.

It was hit and miss. Judon was absolutely worth it. Kendrick Bourne, excellent value. So, A, it does help. And B, even if you have like Denver, for instance, One of these guys isn't going to work. Randy Gregory gets hurt. Like one of them won't work.

Nobody has a perfect free agent class because, let's be honest, you're kind of rolling the dice on chemistry. But March moves absolutely matter. Don't let anybody tell you. So here's the teams that I think have gotten better. There's some arrows up and arrows down. So let's talk about this. Denver's winning it going away.

Russell Wilson changes the entire franchise. DJ Jones from San Francisco. Randy Gregory. Those are big guys. I'll say this. They don't have a lot of needs now. They may want to go. They'll probably draft an old lineman, maybe another running back, maybe a corner.

They don't have a lot of needs. Chargers, they got Khalil Mack. Why is it matter? Because Joey Bosa gets doubled and chipped on every play. And we have more games now than fewer. So Khalil Mack, who's a great run defender, put that back up again. Washington got Carson wins. Say what you want.

he's better than Taylor Heineke. Jaguars have overspent for most of their picks, but they're good players. I mean, Christian Kirk is going to be a really good solid, too. And I don't care what anybody says about the Steelers. Mitch Trubisky is an athletic upgrade. He's super cheap. They'll be better. I think the Steelers this morning are better than they were with Mason Rudolph.

They did the right thing. And they're paying him nothing. They're paying him nothing. Here's who's trending down. The Seahawks and Colts lost quarterbacks, and the Cowboys are having a rough couple days. So Lyle Collins, right, tackle, out. Pretty good player.

Randy Gregory, hard to block. Gone. They screwed around at the end with that negotiation. Cedric Wilson, gone. Amari Cooper, gone. So those are, those are, I mean, just say it out loud. Randy Gregory, Amari Cooper, Cedric Wilson. Those guys have made plays.

By the way, you're getting to get a worse Zeke next year than last year. And Tyron Smith probably plays fewer games next year than last year. year. So now, Dallas drafts pretty well. Cincinnati is not up or down, lost a tight end and an interior defensive lineman I like, but went and got a center and a guard. So they did, to Cincinnati's credit, they elevated the interior O line, which was, you can just watch the games. That was Cincinnati's problems. Their primary issue, they're pretty weak at linebacker. It doesn't really matter. They're really bad on the interior of their old line. So Cincinnati got better. But they lost the tight end who's really good and a defensive lineman they like.

They liked and had to let go. They had to make a choice on the defensive line. They let a guy go. But, you know, Joey Burrell was probably going to be better next year like Herbert than he was this year. But man, oh, man, oh man. This is crazy. Dallas is not having a good couple days. I've also been told this is crazy.

Seattle is trying to convince themselves. I'm told that Drew Locke is the answer. It's not the answer. I'll just tell you that right now. That's not the answer. You can't go from LeBron James in his prime to an all-star. And Drew Locke's not an all-star. And I'm not saying Russell's LeBron, Russell Wilson, look at his numbers.

It's not close. Drew Locke is not a starting NFL franchise quarterback. He has a starting franchise quarterback. quarterback arm, but he's got a little Baker and Johnny Mansell, a lot of chatter, a lot of cool, a little casual, lets it go, thinks he's better than he is. It's not the answer, Seattle.

Not in that division. That's not the answer in the NFC North. It's certainly not the answer in the NFC West. And if Seattle is convincing themselves that Drew Locke is the answer, and I'm told they are, you got problems upstairs in that building, because that's not

the answer. This is top five hour of my life right now. Outside of my children being born, the NFL free agency is way up there. I saw this too. NFL exec believes Tom Brady's retirement was an attempt to facilitate a trade. Now, Peter Schrager says he doesn't believe it. I would say this. Kyle Shanahan on the Niners tried to get him before. I do think Brady looks at Garoppolo getting to Super Bowls and NFC championships and thinks what would I do with that roster. And I also

think, to be honest, Brady's still great and he wasn't terribly happy in Tampa. I think the reason this doesn't work and Bruce Ariens been around the block in this league, whether this is true or not, we don't really know. But here's what is true. When Bruce

Ariens came out a month ago and said, you don't get him unless you give us five first round picks, that squashed it. That completely squashed it. And Tampa was right. Tommy's had a great career. We don't know him anything. We gave him weapons. He won a Super Bowl. And you can say what you want. Well, Tampa won a Super Bowl before Tom Brady. They rolled the dice. They made it very easy for Tom. They drafted a right tackle. They re-signed players. They went and got him Antonio Brown. I mean, they didn't have to do that.

I wouldn't have done that. I didn't like that move. They went and got him Lenny Fernette. So this is not just Tom did the Buccaneers a huge favor. They're like, dude, we gave you a great roster. We answered the call at right tackle. We brought in A B. We brought in Gronk. A lot of GMs thought Gronk was shot. We went and got Leonard Fernette.

They basically did everything Tom asked, and they kind of let him run the offense at the end of year one. So I backed Tampa on this. Tampa said, okay, if you're going to leave, we get picks. We're not doing any favors. You did us a solid, but we did you. a lot of solids too. The Antonio Brown move, I was never a fan of.

There's certainly arguments to be made. It worked. Super Bowl, had a big catch or two. Not something I would have done. All right. Let's go to Chris Sims. Eight years in the NFL. How about Denver getting DJ Jones and Randy Gregory?

We just had Peter Schrager on and he said it's a little bit of the Peyton Manning effect where good players who have options look at that and think, oh, I can win right now. But DJ Jones, Chris, was the second highest rated interior lineman. That is a math. I'll ask you this. This morning in the AFC West, I think Denver has the best roster, not Kansas City. It's up there. It's close. It's certainly the gap has closed. You're right. I think there's a lot of potential there in Denver to where you look at it and go, man, if they reach their potential, I would agree with you. Where I'd go, it might be more talented, but they got some receivers that we got to see Jerry Judy be that guy.

We got to see Cortland Sutton be that guy. We got to see Bradley Chubb, you know, not be injured and be the guy that we saw, you know, his rookie season. I think that's the big thing with Denver. But to your point, you know, Colin, the Randy Gregory, hey, they're their, their defensive system, who they got their E.J. Everett, they need, you know, Randy Gregory's going to be their Leonard Floyd. E.J. Everro just came from the Rams. He's a defense end. Oh, three, four outside linebacker. And then your point with DJ Jones, I've been raving about DJ Jones for the last two days on my podcast and with Mike Floria.

He's one of the best under the radar defensive tackles and all of football. He can do everything. He can be disruptive or hold his ground and two gap. Great signings with them. They're certainly heading in the right direction there in Denver. There's no doubt about that, Colin. Okay. So I'm going to give you my Mitch Trubisky.

I was never a huge fan, but I'm going to sell him to you, Chris. and you tell me, I watched that Uber thing on Showtime last night, the Uber thing. And I made this argument that sometimes you create a company and there's an unintended benefit. When Uber was created, nobody thought about it, but DUIs have plummeted in America, plummeted, unintended benefit. So a prime example with Mitch Tribesky, here's an unintended benefit. We know he's better than Mason Rudolph. We also know he's athletic.

He costs nothing. you don't have to sacrifice any players. The second thing is he allows an offensive coordinator because I think he's a really athletic kid. You can now move the pocket in Pittsburgh, which you could not do for the last four years. I think he makes the Steelers better. Tell me I'm wrong.

I won't tell you you you're wrong. I agree with you 100%. You know, first off, unintended consequence for Mitchell Chubisky in his life is he got stuck in a crappy offense in Chicago. I mean, it's crap. We saw the offense this year without Mitchell, Trubisky, it still looked like crap. It wasn't Mitchell Trubisky.

There was issues there. That's why the head coach is not there anymore. It lacked innovation. It was very simplistic. It didn't necessarily change according to what the personnel was on the football field. So we saw that. Chubisky rebuilt himself this year, at least in the perception world, because he was awesome in the preseason.

Everybody in Buffalo raved about him. And, you know, now everybody, I think, realized, oh, wait, it wasn't him. Right. He's got some talent. He does. I liked him coming out in the draft. You said he's a special athlete of the position. You know, players like him, coaches like him. He's willing to work. He's got a good arm. He needs to work on accuracy, certainly, but it's a strong arm to where there's going to be no limitations to where he could put the ball on the field. And then I think your point, Colin with like exactly what you're saying, they want to move the quarterback there.

Matt Canada, the offensive coordinator there, that's what he's kind of famous for. I think they want to add in some redotch and some quarterback design run. Najee Harris, power running, versatile pass catcher out of the backfield. We saw last year a lot of the Chase Claypool reverses and, you know, Deonti Johnson speed sweeps and all that. I think that's the kind of offense they want to be. So that's why it makes sense for Mitchell Chubisky, let alone, you know, it gives them some wiggle room here.

Maybe he's the guy for the future, but we didn't invest so much money that, you know, if he's not the guy, we can get a new quarterback next year. Or if Dwayne Haskins outperforms outperforms him in training camp and just lights up the world. Okay, yeah, we got a $7 million backup with our $2.5 million starter in Dwayne Haskins. It still leaves the draft as an available option. So that's why I like the Pittsburgh signing.

But to your point, he does make them better and he's definitely the best option on that roster right now. You know, it's interesting. I look at the Cowboys this morning and I'm sorry, but Randy Gregory is a handful. A handful. I watched a lot of games last year where he was a major disruptor. Lyle Collins, right tackle, out. Well, we already know Tyron Smith, aging probably doesn't give you more than maybe 14 games.

You lose Amari, Cedric Wilson. The Cowboys this morning, Chris, they're not as dynamic a football team to me. No. Agreed. Definitely not. And I think their team was probably a little overrated to begin with just because of the Cowboys. You know, you said it right about the offensive line there, Colin. The offensive line, I think we all, you know, I fell in this trap early in the year, too, thinking like, hey, it's still the same off as a line from four or five years ago when Ezekiela was just tearing up the football league.

No, it's no longer in the conversation for one of the better offensive lines than football. Yeah. You know, you lose a guy like Cedric Wilson where I think they were planning on keeping him with Michael Gallup, who of course is not going to be 100% to start the year. You know, yes, now you're looking for a wait. Who's another guy that we can have help the football team there? You know, Randy Gregory, he is special. There's just not a lot of people on planet Earth walking around with his size and measurables and speed.

Yeah. And he can play outside linebacker and defense end. So that was a big blow to them. I agree with you. They got to be real in a little day. Colin, that totally seemed like one where a deal, a deal like, yes, I agree with your deal, Dallas Cowboys. And somebody in Denver who has a relationship with Randy Gregory's agent called and said,

hey, let us have one more crack at making an offer. And it was such a good offer that Randy Gregory said to say, sorry, Jones family. I love you and everything you've done for me, but I can't turn this down. And so be it. It has, it smells like that to me. Yeah. Boy, Denver's a different team this morning. Finally, I said this that I understood the Rams saying, hey, we won the Super Bowl. Let's bring the band back. Let's pay OBJ. The Bucks did it. They won the Super Bowl. Let's bring the band back. Green Bay got bounced in the first round, and everybody's getting paid.

And Jaya Alexander is going to want to get paid. really quickly. And I'm like, all right, but this has been a team that's disappointed us three years in a row in the playoffs, right? Like, so I don't know. I got no problem, Aaron getting richer. But I look at Green Bay and I think, you're kind of bringing the band back together and you may want to create some new hits because I don't like to.

Yeah. Right. Like, I'm not in love with what Green Bay is doing. Tell me I'm wrong. No, I'm with you. Again, I mean, bringing the band back, but I don't even know if they're going to be able to bring the full band back. I mean, again, we're still Devante Adams.

It sounds like it's far off. You know, again, Marquez-Valdes Scanling, he was the only other guy that could beat people deep down the football field. You know, he's not on the roster. What's going to happen there? And I guess there's issues there. There's no doubt about it. You know, Zazaria Smith, I know he didn't play a whole lot last year, but that's, you know,

a big loss for the football team. I don't see how, hey, we brought the band back, but I'm with you. Like, there needs to be a few more hits songs here if we want to be the band. number one band in the land. And that to me is where they miss. They miss a few elite playmakers on both sides of the ball, like real difference makers. And you got Adams and Jaya Alexander, you know, lurking on the, as far as contract extensions. That's going to be tough. I don't see them doing a whole lot more in free agency because of that. And I don't want everybody to blame Aaron Rogers. Hey, he's a pain in the butt. I get that. But his contract negotiation is not going to

hurt their team the next two or three years. It might hurt their team that those lanes. duck two years when he retires at the end. But it's not going to hurt them right now. But they were already in big issues before this. He gives them a little wiggle room, but not much. And yes, I still don't think they're as talented as the Rams or the 49ers or the Bucks and the NFC.

No, those guys, they got more beasts on those football teams. Hey, by the way, you spent a year in New England. Brady returns to Tampa, shocked it all. He came out of retirement? Well, I don't think, I think he only retired to make a play to try to go somewhere else. That would be my two cents. I mean, again, Colin, I'm one to tell you, I know that he and Sean Payton tried

the finagle away to be the quarterback coach in Miami. I know that. Florio and I have discussed that. I still think it's very odd that the week Kyle Shanahan didn't go to the NFL combine. Tom Brady was in San Francisco at the same time. I just think that's odd. I don't know. It's a lot of coincidence there to where I just can't get behind it.

I think he tried to look at some options. He couldn't find anything better. and he said, you know what, the bucks are still really damn good. And the NFC, it's there to be had. If we can beat the Packers, the Rams of the 49ers, we can be right back in the Super Bowl, and I can be winning in an eighth Super Bowl. He told everybody he was going to play to 45, and he's not the kind of guy that backs down from what he says.

Chris Sims, great seeing you again. Good seeing you, too, man. It's been a while. I like those blue stairs behind you. That's very clever. Yeah, I'm trying to be big time in my studio like you. I mean, it's not a Colin Cowherd studio, but it's not bad. over here at NBC.

We're slumming it okay over here. We have set the standard for juicy studios. Good seeing you, Chris. See you, man. Good seeing you. I just can't get over Denver. Massive upgrade quarterback. Massive upgrade defensive line.

We've been saying this. The league now is quarterback weapons pass rush. That's the league. That's the Rams. That was the Bucks. That was the Chiefs. quarterback weapons. You don't have to have a great O-line.

Don't have to have great linebackers. Don't have to have a great secondary. Box didn't have a great secondary. I mean, the Rams were a mess at safety at the end of the year. They were all banged up. You can make a Super Bowl with an arguably bad O-line. Yeah, Cincinnati did. Yeah.

Not going to win it, but you get there. Yeah. Wow. Denver. Quarterback, they got weapons. Now, Randy Gregory, Bradley Chubb, DJ Jones. That is something.

this is big. Denver's D-line was fine. It just got significantly better. Gregory and DJ Jones. That's a different defensive line. How good is that division? The loser in the NFL this morning is the Raiders.

Because the Chargers, roster, Denver's roster is significantly better today. Like, big time, you can go to data, PFF, Khalil Max, a great run defender, changes the dynamic opposite of Bosa, and Denver's D-line now is a handful. Kansas City, you know, it's just funny about this league a couple of years ago. Kansas City, you could put him down for 20 Super Bowls. Well, Andy Reid's mid-late 60s, not going to coach forever.

Mahomes has had these many slumps. They just lost Honey Badger. And the Chargers and the Broncos now from three years ago have great quarterbacks. Don't pat yourself in the bat very long in this league. Everything changes really fast. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. Well, Aaron Rogers was outraged. I got the reports of his new deal egregiously wrong. Well, quarantine, Rappaport, and Tom Pelliserro, Aaron Rogers has finally signed his new contract with the Packers. The deal is reportedly for three years at $150 million guaranteed. Pellisero says the deal will be worth $42, $49.5 million in 2022, $59.5 million in 2023 and $49.3 million in 2024. It's also said he will likely retire after his contract. So he will now have a $28.5 million cap hit next season.

and it was previously 47 million. So they'll save $18.2 million in cap space with Rogers' new deal. They were 21.2 over the cap before the deal. They are now just $7 million over the cap. Well, the Jordan love... Terrible pick. At this point, I think I'd probably move him. I mean, listen, if Aaron gets hurt, you're screwed anyway.

So to me, in a world of quarterback scarcity, somebody would give you something for him. Wouldn't they? I don't know that we've seen enough of anything from Jordan Love to know if he can play or not. So it's not that. I just, you need a solid backup quarterback and you have him. He's not expensive. All right. I mean, if you can get one for cheaper, that has more experience.

But you need to have a backup quarterback. I don't think. He's seen the value of that. He started for, especially for the last two years. Three years in college. This was his second year in Green Bay. I saw him against the Chiefs. No, it was a disaster.

But I hated that pick from the beginning. I hated all of it. I was 100% on Aaron Rogers side when the pick was made. I thought it was a egregious mistake by the Packers to do that. And he has done nothing but prove that to be correct from the moment that Jordan Love was taken. You can't draft, you can't move up in the draft and take a quarterback with Aaron Rogers on your roster and not even let him know. Well, and you remember, A, Aaron was declining. That was their argument.

And then they changed coaches. The other thing was, it's one thing to draft a quarterback, but if you're going to move up and you're going to give away draft capital to get somebody that makes it worse. Like the Niners gave up a bunch of stuff to get Tray Lance. That's why you have to move off Jimmy Garoppolo. Well, yeah, but also Jimmy Garoppolo is not Aaron Rogers. You can have this argument about Aaron Rogers was declining. Clearly he wasn't declining. He just won back-to-back league MVP. So if he had a down year, that's one thing. But to go move up and take Jordan Love without letting Aaron Rogers know, it's Aaron Rogers. You got to let him know. I mean, San Francisco let Jimmy G know and Jimmy G is certainly not

Aaron Rogers. That's true. So, I mean, I don't agree with all of the draw. that has ensued since. I've enjoyed all the content. But that was a terrible pick. Now, the contract itself, obviously, was one year off of the 200 million. So, I mean, listen, when that tweet didn't mean anything to me, no one cares. It is what it is. The idea you got to dispute every single report that's out there about you and it turns out to be one year off. Aaron likes control. So if he can't control the story, it bothers him. He always had, so by the way, I don't care. I don't care. But I don't care, but I also don't care about, I don't really care about Green Bay moving forward.

Either do I. I'm the same one. That was my, that was when we were deciding or waiting to see what Aaron Rodgers' decision was going to be. If he left, that's interesting to me. He didn't. And we've seen this with Green Bay. Last year was the year that they should have won. They had the number one seed in the NFC, home field advantage, back-to-back MVP's. Now you're $7 million over the cap. They're still trying to work out a deal for Devante Adams, who has said he won't play on the franchise tag. So are they better this year than they were last year? I don't think so.

We saw how it ended. Now listen, it's a long season. A lot can happen, but I'm not riding the roller coaster of Aaron Rogers next season. That's fair. I'm not interested. So Deshawn Watson will be speaking with potential teams this week, but one of the teams he will not be speaking with is the Colts. According to reports, the Texans declined to allow Watson to talk to Indy. They don't want him going anywhere near the AFC South.

I think that's fair. He was set to speak with the Saints and Panthers as well as the Browns. And according to Schefter, the Falcons have emerged as a sleeper team. It might be interested in trading for Watson as well. He will reportedly meet with Atlanta tomorrow. The Saints remain the frontrunners based on the assets. Now, he has a no trade clause, so he does have some control in his landing spot. So he really can determine what the final place is.

As long as someone has assets, Houston obviously is going to try and get the best deal for them. but because of the no trade clause, it's kind of got to be in agreements between Houston and Deshaun Watson. If I'm Deshawn, Carolina and New Orleans, Atlanta, I get solid owner, offensive coach, a couple of stars offensively. It's an easy one for me. I got nothing against Carolina, but that roster... Well, the Saints, there's just a lot of turnover this year.

It doesn't... It's not the same place as you're getting with Sean Payton. I'll take Carolina, Atlanta. I get an offensive coach. Look around the league. now you want to move on even more from Carolina. I think that Matt Rule is in a very unstable place. Saints aren't nearly as attractive to me today.

Elevating a defensive coach who failed once. That doesn't attract me. I'm not attracted in New Orleans right now. I think Atlanta is the place that make the most sense. So I. I think it's a big city endorsement possibilities. Atlanta is the L.A. of the South. It's a big, vibrant music, art, corporate city.

that's where you go. And if the Texans can get Matt Ryan, I mean, why? For a year. That's a good deal. That's a good deal. And you're going to get a bunch of assets, obviously, as well. So next year and you're not paying Mills anything.

So Matt's contract doesn't crush you. You're not paying anybody. It's a bad right. You just lost Justin Reed. You're not paying anybody. You're moving to Sean Watson. So you take Matt Ryan for a year and draft someone next year with all the assets that you have. According to Fox bet, the Saints have the best odds to land Watson at minus 150.

The Panthers are the second best odds at plus. 175. So we're talking a lot about the Broncos today, and they've become a much desired free agency destination. I'm thinking about turning the color of this set, an orange hue. The Broncos are going to win the Super Bowl, so let's just get ahead of it. Their roster's insane now. We've got some orange going on. I feel like we got the panels, the blue. We kind of already are Broncos. I'm not trying to go overboard here. Is everybody looking at this Denver roster? So they signed DJ Jones, and it was announced that they are going to sign Randy Gregory, getting him from the Cowboys.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Russ has been trying to recruit Bobby Wagner there as well. This would be an embarrassment of riches. This would be insane. They played together for a decade and won a Super Bowl. Seahawks released Bobby Wagner last week. He had a career high at 170 total tackles last season. If they get Bobby Wagner, schedule the parade. Honestly, downtown, schedule one for Boulder.

That'll be the second one. You can't do Boulder first because just all that can of a smell. get Bobby Wagner. That is going to be an embarrassed. At that point, you're just, this is an all-star team defensively. Patrick Sertan, they got a great young safety, Patrick Sertan at Corner. If you get Bobby Wagner, Bradley Chub,

Randy Gregory, that is stars everywhere. They're starting to work with that Rams Bank. The Swiss Bank, the Rams use. Well, the good GMs figured out. Well, yeah, they do. That's, I mean, yes, of course. We say this all the time. There's only a handful of great coaches. There's only a

handful of great GMs. There's only a handful of great quarterback. Well, but, you know, I mean, back. There are only a handful of great capologists. And if you can make all of this fit, Bobby Wagner added to that roster would be pretty incredible. By the way, Seattle's going with Drew Locke. No, I'm from the Pacific Northwest. I don't know if I believe that. I'm getting it from very legitimate sources.

Are they tanking this year? Is that what happening? I think they're trying to convince themselves. Okay, George Payton's a really good GM. He's like, see ya. I've always said this about certain teams. If Jerry West calls you... The Broncos were like, see ya. They brought in Teddy Bridgewater.

Yeah, that's true. They didn't want him. Right. Teddy, who is now the backup for Tua. I actually like Miami's moves. I like the Dolphins. Miami's making some moves. Yeah.

watching a movie with Jim Carrey, this Canadian comic, who we all know now, pretty iconic, watching Ace Ventura Pet Detective. And I remember watching the movie, in telling a friend, this movie would be unwatchable without Jim Carrey. You could put other, forget actors. You could put other comedians in that. It would bomb.

Like Robin Williams was the only person at the time that could have done that and it wasn't a complete bomb. Like he made that movie work. Otherwise, it's straight to video. Like certain people change everything. Right? Like he made, the mask wasn't a great movie. He made it work. Dumb and Dumber was just dumb.

And then you put Jim Carrey in it, and it worked. Like certain people just change everything. And it's like, New England Patriot fans are really struggling with this. Is that I saw a story this morning, Tom Brady's attention grabbing act has really become annoying. I lived in New England for 11 years. Those people are annoying. They have a saying in the New England area.

It's called Fences Make Good Neighbors. I'm not joking. They're annoying. and cranky perpetually. Memo to Patriot fans. Whenever I hear this, hey, this is the way Belichick does it. Yes, all those rules and principles and values worked when you had the movie star. They don't work anymore.

So Tom is annoying. No, Tom's the goat. And you can do things with a Jim Carrey in a comedy or with Tom Brady you couldn't do. like have awful wide receivers. And he'll make all of them palpable. Just consumable, I'll use that word. Just a memo seven years. Let's see.

Four, five, six, seven. Eight and a half years in Belichick's career, Brady hasn't started. Four in Cleveland, last two in New England, the Matt Castle year and the first year and a half before Bledso got hurt. here is Bill Belichick's NFL record in the regular season without Brady sub 500 playoffs sub 500 combined sub 500 none of this stuff works Brady was what's that stuff he used to use whiteout when you screw up with the

typewriter he was the white out to like several bad wide receiver selections like New England a couple years ago took two tight ends. Neither could play. They have whiffed on multiple picks for the last seven to eight years. And Brady, you know, he just whites it out. Just start over and type a new word. So Bill Belichick, all these, all these, well, this is what Billethechuk does. Letting J.C. Jackson go, he was second in the NFL to Trayvon Diggs with picks.

he's a long playmaking corner. So just think about who is the best player on New England's roster now. They have what I would call like one super elite player, Matt Judon. You're good, good player. He's not Vaughn Miller dominant, but Matt Judon, they spent money for war down at the end of last year. You can double them now. They don't have big pass rushers all over the defensive line. You start looking at Denver's roster and Tampa's roster and the Rams roster.

just it doesn't match it doesn't match up new england and that playmaker so all this stuff about oh we do it this way and we do it that way that stuff worked with tom ace ventura's funny with jim carey it is a box office poison with carrot top or rob schneider or anybody else that's by the way made a great living prime millionaires done very well you can take a lot of funny guys those movies don't work this don't work so yeah i i can live with tom brady being a little by the way i like the fun tom I like the roll with it, Tom, have too many margaritas, Tom, throw the trophy in the pond, Tom. I'm good with it.

He's having fun. So the other thing we talked about this earlier, and I want to put this graphic up again, who is winning and losing free agency? You know, the goal in the NFL is just to be better than last year. I mean, everybody wants to win Super Bowls, or most everybody does. Most owners do. But, you know, we know you can eliminate in all sports, the bottom seven, salary teams in baseball, the bottom seven rosters in the NBA.

You know, we know this morning the Jets are not winning the Super Bowl, the Giants are not winning the Super Bowl, the Jaguars are not winning the Super Bowl, the Texans are not winning the Super Bowl. The NFL doesn't have a lot of them, but there's about six that are not winning the Super Bowl. If you look this morning, who's trended up, who's trended down? Denver by far and away has had the best free agent period. to bring in DJ Jones and Randy Gregory and Russell Wilson is massive. Those are really elite players at their spot. Say what you want, but the commanders are better with Wents.

Jags have overpaid for everybody, but they are better. Mitch Trubisky, Chargers getting Khalil Mack and J.C. Jackson, those are real moves. And as we told you earlier, the last six years, the top spender in free agency, on average, is five games better. Not one or two, five. That is now almost a third of the schedule. Denver's going to be significantly better. The chargers are going to be better. Also, you get Justin Herbert a year of growth, Brandon Staley, second year coaching his systems.

You know, players know it now. The teams that are trending down, and I don't think it's any question, Seattle is a mess this morning in that division. They are a mess. They lost their leader, the centerpiece of their defense, and their star quarterback. Dallas losing Randy Gregory, Lowe Collins, Cedric Wilson, and Amari. Those guys made plays. Those are good football players. The Colts, Jim Ursay, wanted a new quarterback.

Congrats. You got one, probably Gardner Minshue. I mean, that's who's left. So those teams are not as good today. In fact, if I was picking the AFC South today, I'd take Tennessee one. Depending on what the Texans get for Deshawn Watson, I'd take Jacksonville, too. I don't think they're a playoff team, but I think Jacksonville is going to be around 500. I think you're going to see a real coach, an NFL coach, who's won big games.

Trevor Lawrence gets a second year. They've clearly, although overpaid, elevated at wide receiver. And they also have good draft picks. Remember, when you have the top three draft pick, you get the top three in every round. So when you're drafting top second, that's a first round pick. Top third feels like a second round pick. So Jacksonville is going to get four starters. If they know what they're doing, they're going to get four starters in the draft and not pay them anything except for the first one.

So that's where we are today. Chargers, J.C. Jackson. And I, so I made two calls over the last couple days on J.C. Jackson. So I said, you know, why? Because I asked this on Twitter, and I had a couple people in the NFL reach out to me. I'm like, why? I don't understand it. Like, why wouldn't you go get him? He's arguably your second best player.

And the feeling was the Patriots felt that J.C. Jackson would not react well to a franchise tag. that he wanted to be paid. They didn't think he'd react terribly well to a franchise tag. Frankly, I'd try to see if that's true. I would still do it. I would just roll the dice and see, but they felt he wanted a big deal if he didn't get it. Now, Devonte Adams has said,

now, Devante Adams is better than J.C. Jackson. They're both really talented. But Devante has said, like, I've earned beyond a franchise tag. I'm the best receiver. But there's an argument to me made. J.C. Jackson, you could say, is the top three corner. He's got a lot of Jalen Ramsey qualities. You can do a lot of things with him.

Big, a lot of length playmaker. He's not as good as Jalen Ramsey, but he can play. So that's where we are today. But you've got to give me a break on all this. This is what we did with Belichick. Put the numbers up again on the board. This is what Belichick is without Brady. And there's been a bunch of four years in Cleveland without him.

Last two years without him. Matt Castle year. The year that Drew Bledso first year and a half. Like we have a lot of different moments. This was not like a season. It's like seven. That's what his number is. So I'd say the elite player over culture.

Cultures work when you have Tim Duncan. Cultures work when you have Kobe, LeBron, Brady, Russell Wilson. That's when cultures are good. Stafford. Sean McVeigh's culture suddenly got better. It's funny how that works. Hour three next. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,
