Guaranteed Human.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and
friends on the ice.

This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us.
From My Heart Podcasts, Saigon.
You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam?
One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart.
This is for Vietnam.
They're pouring patril all over here.
Freedom for Vietnam!
There's a fire coming to this country, and it's going to burn out everything.
Listen to Saigon.

The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior,
and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.

Welcome back, hour number two on the herd.
Jason McIntyre in for Colin Cowherd.
Yes, I'm in relief.
I had to go to the bullpen early in this one, folks.
Cowherd under the weather, hopefully back tomorrow, definitely back Thursday for the Super Bowl.
Huge, huge sports weekend just happened.
And obviously the Super Bowl, the crown jewel on the sports calendar.
That is Sunday.
We're going to have Matt Hasselbeck on to talk about the game.
I'm going to pepper it with Miles Garrett questions.
No, my general.
are not going to get involved in Miles Garrett.
But I'm sure he has some good teams.
Obviously, I'm interested in the Super Bowl week prep.
You know, you get two weeks, which is abnormal.
What's that like?
You know, how many people are hitting you up for tickets?
Good luck, techs.
High school X is hitting you up.
I'm sure Hasselbeck has all the good stuff.
So we'll talk to him shortly.
But we're going to go back to Luca Donchich to the Lakers, just momentarily,
because I need to do another victory lap, folks.
I am like just the biggest Luca Donchich fan.
and I remember going, you know, back pre-COVID,
the Lakers would let the media get press passes and go to the games.
And sometimes you get crappy seats,
but I would go like two hours before the game and watch shoot around.
And you could do that on the floor.
So I would literally get to the arena when the players are,
just so I could go to the court and I went specifically to watch Luca.
And I'm just telling you, this guy, at his size, he's like 6-8-2-40-250.
He's like an NFL player.
He's like the size of a linebacker or a defensive end.
And he comes out and he's doing these moves and he makes it look so effortless.
And I'm not going to lie.
You guys know I'm a huge basketball nerd.
I play in three men's leagues because I'm an idiot.
And I just fell in love with Luca Donch's game.
He makes it look so easy and he makes everyone better.
And there really is only two guys in the league who can do literally everything, make everyone better.
I know Yokic is there, but the big guy, he doesn't have the ball in his hands all the time.
Everything revolves around him in Denver.
But essentially, Luca is LeBron Part 2?
That's what he is.
You watch, he carried that Mab's team to the finals last year.
Remember, at the trade deadline, Dallas was like a middling team, middle of the pack,
and Luca just put him on his back and took over and took down Mighty OKC and took down
the Timberwolves who had beaten Denver.
And they got to the finals, and I know they got smoked by Boston.
But anybody you hear taking shots at Luca Donchis, just has no clue.
what they're talking about. You look at the numbers and what he's accomplished in his first six years
in the league is unfathomable. And I know Rachel Nichols earlier just said, hey, Wembe Gama's going to
be a top 10 player. I don't think anybody would disagree. But if you just look at the numbers,
Luca Donchish is on track to be a top 10 player all time, period. That's what he's done in the first
five years of his career, first six, sorry. And now he goes to the Lakers and yeah, the pizzas
aren't quite there, but you figure it out, right? Hey, we got our super.
star, we've got our foundational piece, now we build around him.
You know, keeping Austin Reeves.
Pretty savvy move by Rob Polinka.
They gave up Max Christie, who, by the way, Max Christie had looked very good with the
Lakers since he got inserted into the starting lineup.
They were 15 and 8.
But you keep Austin Reeves and you keep that of the first pick, so you now have more
ammo to go out and make another move.
You know, a guy I feel kind of sorry for is Clay Thompson.
You know, Clay goes to a team that just went to the finals.
Hey, I'm playing with Luca and Kyrie.
And now it's like, Luca's out the door.
And I know this went down Saturday night, but guys, did you see what happened to Dallas yesterday in their game?
They were down like 50 in the first half.
I think they gave up 91 or 93 to the Cavs.
That's how shell-shock this franchise is.
And, you know, I write about stuff on gambling for foxports.com.
And they asked me for an NBA take last week.
And I looked at the landscape and I said, we don't know when lively is coming back.
maybe not this the regular season.
And Luca, we don't know when he's coming back.
You should consider betting on the Mabs to miss the playoffs.
And we posted it.
And of course, I get the usual suspects.
These meatballs.
Oh, you're an idiot.
The Mabs are going to the finals.
I'm like, okay, let's just wait.
And now you look at him and you're like, well, geez,
if something happens to Kyrie Irving for two weeks and the AD fit is a little clunky,
no lively, there's a world where the Mabs miss the playoffs entirely.
And I know Charles Barkley, I didn't want to say this when Rachel was here,
because she's close with Barclay.
Charles Barkley comes out on social media yesterday.
The Mavs are the second best team in the West.
Like, come on, Charles.
I don't need to take unnecessary shots at you Super Bowl week,
but they're not the second best team in the West.
And in fact, they could miss the playoffs.
That's how bleak it could be.
Kyrie Irving is really their only shot creator.
It doesn't look good.
If you're the Lakers, you don't care much about this year
because you've got Luca long term.
All right, let's welcome in Matt Hasselbeck,
the longtime NFL.
quarterback, just a true
legend in the industry, a
Titan when it comes to sports media.
How are you, man? What's up, man?
Wally Pip, what do we think?
What's going to
I thought we were going to get a Michael Jordan flu game today here from
Colorado, you know? Yeah, before the show.
He wasn't up for it. He wasn't feeling great.
Almost. He gave it a run. He gave it a run.
So it's Super Bowl week.
Heck, yeah. It's Super Bowl weeks.
Two weeks. Yes. So take us back
to when you went to the Super Bowl,
2005 against the Steelers. Yeah, it's 2005 season, 2006, you know, once the new year comes. And it's
very different. You know, I felt very fortunate. I think my teammates did too. Our head coach was Mike Holmgren.
Mike Holmgren had been with the San Francisco 49ers in their heyday with Bill Walsh and, you know,
Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott and Steve Young and all those guys. And he had also been to all those
Super Bowls with Brett Fav and Reggie White and those guys at the Green Bay Packers. So he had a template.
Like he had a, there was no like, hmm, what should we do here?
He like, we got to the, we win the NFC championship game, we beat Carolina, and then
immediately after the game, it was like, the schedules will be in your locker, we'll
have a meeting tomorrow, the schedules will be in your locker right away.
Like, they knew.
Like, they had it down.
And I think for us as players, there was just a lot of comfort in that.
It was like, you know what, there's a lot to worry about in this situation, parents, you know,
family tickets, travel, like all the stuff, the actual game, right?
And it was just like this idea of like coaches got it.
Like we're good.
The organization's got it.
They're going to be first class and all this stuff.
And for both these teams, like I think that is something.
They've both recently been in the Super Bowl.
Obviously, Andy Reed and these guys, like, they probably don't even have to look up the schedule and what they do.
He can probably commit it from memory.
So I think for us, you know, the two weeks was a thing as well.
And the biggest thing that I would say about that, like you saw even recently with Sean McVe,
talk about he had two weeks to prepare for the Patriots in that first Super Bowl,
how he kind of felt like he overcooked it, and he was much better the second time around.
That was one thing that I certainly felt like, you know, Mike Holmgren did a great job in our Super Bowl game planning.
He was very strict with the coaches, like in that second week, because you put the game plan in the first week,
if you want to put a new play in, fine, but something's got to come out.
you know, you get whatever the number was,
282 plays for the game plan,
but it's not 283.
You know, and so, like, I think there is,
there is something to this two weeks of preparation
where you're sort of sharpening the axe
and not necessarily just swinging harder.
You know, you're not over-trying.
And so, you know, this is maybe a wash
because these two teams have been there before.
They have but one instrumental player, Sequan Barkley,
this is his first go-round.
And I just wonder, for a running back, again, you were a quarterback, but I'm just curious, is he going to be over-aimped given, oh, my gosh, take one, you come to the Eagles, they're going right back to the Super Bowl.
Over-amped is a good thing for a running back if it's on game day.
Over-amp during the week, you know, that's where you can feel exhausted going to the game.
And I would say if you talk to most people that play in the Super Bowl, they'll tell you, I didn't know how exhausted I was from doing media for two weeks straight.
you know, talking to people I hadn't talked to, or just, you know, all the media availability.
I mean, it starts tonight, and it just kind of goes through.
And your creatures of habit as an NFL player.
But, no, I think for the running back, and you even see it with Nick Siriani and company,
I think they've really coached this season, practice this season.
You even see who gets healthy rest days on Wednesday practices during the season.
They've had, the goal has been this Super Bowl the whole time.
I was pretty vocal and critical even.
I thought they should have gone for the rushing record.
I thought they should have gone for Eric Dickerson's record.
That's a feather in the cap to this great offensive line, this great O-line coach,
the scheme, the wide receivers blocking, the year that Seekwon had to Eagles fans.
Like, no, our running back owns that record.
And they had a tough decision to make, and they said, no, you know, we're going to sit you.
We're going to let that record pass because our ultimate goal is the Hoyst of Lombardi.
And, you know, I would have personally, I would have liked to have seen them to try to do both.
But with that being said, you know, I think that in their mind, they know not to overdo it in practice these next two weeks.
You mentioned the Eagles run game, and that has been a weakness of the Chief's defense here late in the season.
I'm trying to think of the game plan the Eagles may employ.
They're not just going to come out and run the ball, run, run, run, run, right?
I can't imagine that that, you know, the Chiefs are going to be ready for it.
I think a lot of times you see those big call sheets that, you know, Andy Reid has his famous, you know, it looks like the Waffle House menu.
You know, it's like it's a huge call sheet.
And a lot of times you'll see guys notes on there.
And like in my playing career, a common thing, a common note that play callers will give to themselves, especially someone who's creative in the passing game, is something along the lines of make them prove that they can stop the run.
Like make them prove it first.
Let's let let let's just like assume that their gap sound.
Like when they want to blitz our protections or do swim moves on a pass rush,
make them prove that they're going to do that.
So, no, I do think that's going to be the thing.
And I do think that what we've seen in the playoffs,
we've seen a ton of home run runs, really all season from Sequin.
And I heard Bill Belichick talk about this, and he nailed it.
He absolutely nailed it.
And basically what he was saying is like, when you say,
oh, just stack the box against the run, well, that's no good.
Because once he gets through that first level,
It's just the angle of the safety versus Saquan that's deciding an eight-yard run to a 68-yard run.
And that has really destroyed some defenses this year.
So what Belichick was saying, I completely agree, you need to have layers to the defense.
So stacking the box is not it.
Like too high with, you know, like two deep safeties, deep-ish safeties, 12-yard safeties,
where those guys can be sort of like the actual safeties to protect home runs.
that has to be part of the game plan for Kansas.
But then isn't it just death by a thousand eight-yard runs?
Sort of.
If you think that Kellyn Moore is going to be patient enough
and boring enough to not have to feed a hyped-up AJ Brown
and feed Devonte Smith and feed Dallas Goddard
and make sure Jalen Hertz feels part of the game.
Like you're basically, this is an old Romeo Cornell saying,
like make them go the long, hard way.
Like they will get creative.
and especially like just knowing Kellan Moore, right?
Like Kellyn Moore's up for a head coaching job.
This is still an audition for him.
He doesn't have that Saints job.
He's, you know, you saw Kyle Shanahan in his Super Bowl when he could have just been boring and run it,
but like confident in the year that he had, confident in his, you know, MVP quarterback and his great receiver.
Like, hey, we can be balanced.
We can be balanced.
That's the way they're going to want, I think Kansas City is going to want them to be throwing the ball.
So that'll be interesting to see.
but no, I do think, and listen, just even going back to Kellan Moore,
knowing who he was as a player,
I remember this kid as a high school quarterback in Prosser, Washington,
throwing for, like, thousands and thousands of yards,
beating teams 63 to nothing.
His dad was his high school coach, very aggressive,
kind of air-rate-ish vibe as a passer,
and then he goes to Boise State.
You know, Heisman Trophy candidate, Kellan Moore.
I mean, people forget this.
And then he played a couple of games in Dallas
and threw for like 400-something yards,
and 400 and something yards.
He's a passing game guy.
So we think of the Eagles as a running team,
but trust me, the guy calling the plays in his DNA,
what he really is, first and foremost,
he wants to throw that ball.
By the way, should Saints fans be excited about him?
I don't mean to be negative here,
but, you know, he kind of got run out of Dallas.
We don't know the circumstances,
whether it was McCarthy didn't want him.
Then he goes to the Chargers and it was ugly there.
And now he goes to the Eagles,
and it's like, is it Kellan Moore
or is it Sequin Barclay?
Well, Saints got all kinds of problems right now, but I would just say, like, when you're talking about a coordinator who can build an offense around a special running back, and I think that's what they did.
Like, Philly struggled early, like the first month of the season.
They were trying to get an identity.
They figured it out.
Now, the Saints have Alvin Camara and Alvin Camara.
Like, to me, he's one of the more underrated guys.
Like, you can build around Alvin Camara and somebody else.
But, no, this is an audition, right?
This is still an audition, and that's what this Super Bowl is for a guy like that.
All right, let's go to the Chiefs.
I don't want to say I'm a Chiefs hater.
Chiefs fans don't like that I've been negative.
Listen, they're 15 and 2 this season, but let's be real.
The better team, would you agree as the Eagles here?
Team, everybody, not just quarterback coach.
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
I mean, like, they're, I've been on the Eagles all year.
I love the Eagles.
I think the Eagles are strong.
There's every reason in the world to love them.
Their talent level is high.
Their defense is amazing.
got a ton of respect for Vic Fangio.
I've played against him a bunch.
He's a headache, you know, to deal with.
Their D-Lines, great.
You know, the weapons.
They don't spread it around too much.
They got A.J. Brown, Devonte, Dallas Goddard,
Sequin, Jalen Hertz, great leader.
No, there's all this stuff, but they,
it's like Superman.
Yeah.
With Mahomes.
That's what is.
And Andy Reid.
And there's, and, you know, for all the turnover in the NFL,
there's been so much continuity in Kansas City.
And I, like, you know, a lot of people,
like they don't get success, they fire a coach, they make a change, they do this, like,
learn that lesson from Kansas City. Those guys know each other. Like I know Matt and Aggie went
away for a little bit, and Eric B. Enemy left, but like, really, it's been the same coaching
staff for a long time. Yeah. So, you know, again, like, I think, like, you just talk about the,
the uniqueness of generational talent with Patrick Mahomes. He's got his guy and Travis Kelsey,
and then they do have one of the more automatic kickers in the game. They're always in it. So
that'll be a tough one to go against, no doubt.
And you didn't even mention Spags, really, who is unbelievable.
Like, he seems to, at every crucial moment, whether it's against the diners in overtime, whether
it's against the bills on that fourth down, he seems to know what button to push.
And so we used to call those retirement blitzes.
Like, no, literally, that's what, like, you really shouldn't do that.
Like, you should be playing this conservative.
And as a quarterback, our coaches, we'd always say, hey, this guy's reds.
resume is so strong. Like if he never coaches another game and he like buys a fishing boat and that's it for him, like he's good. You can't trust this guy. He might bring a corner blitz on fourth and eight to win the game. He's not afraid of anything. He'll dial up a retirement blitz whenever he wants to. And it's much harder to go as a quarterback. It's much harder to go up against a guy that like, well, that doesn't make sense in this situation. But he doesn't care. He's got his Super Bowl rings as a defensive coordinator.
He's good.
I just keep coming back to this whole Mahomes versus Brady stuff.
I don't.
Listen, he's a teammate here, Brady obviously of Fox.
But he's the goat to me.
And even if Mahomes wins three in a row, I can't vault him over Brady yet.
Can you?
Listen, and when I was growing up, it was always Joe Montana.
Like, Joe Montana was the guy.
No one's going to be Joe Montana.
What he did in Super Bowls, it was just ridiculous, right?
It was like, no one's ever going to get there.
And that was the talk.
You know, and there were heroes of mine when I was growing, Michael Jordan,
Walter Payton, like these guys that you were just like,
Oh, no one's at that level.
And what did Brady do?
It destroyed it.
Like just unbelievable.
Put himself in rare air, another place.
And I remember I was on TV.
I was in the media when Mahomes won his first one.
And, you know, all these producers, they want to say, oh, can Mahomes get to the Tom Brady level?
Can he get those playoff wins?
Can he win that many Super Bowls?
And I remember a lot of, like, people, you know, I think maybe even Steve Young at the time, was like, hey, just chill out.
Like, let him enjoy his first one.
but then you sit and really evaluate the whole thing
and you're like, man, if anyone could do it,
like this guy could do it.
And at the time, it just felt like
how I felt like growing up about Joe Montana,
no one's going to get there.
And then Brady, like no one's going to get there.
And here's this guy.
You look at how old Patrick Mahomes is,
how quarterbacks can play later into their career now.
They protect the quarterback in terms of hits and stuff like that.
He could definitely get there.
So it's almost LeBron versus Jordan-ish.
And, you know, LeBron's not going to catch him in rings,
but he has everything else.
Mahomes, he's probably not going to have as many rings as Brady.
Come on, we would agree with that.
Yeah, probably.
But I'm just saying, like, when I was playing, like,
it wasn't even fathomable that someone could even get close.
You'd be like, come on, that's ridiculous.
Like, no one's getting there.
It's kind of like Cal Ripkin's street, you know, like,
or Brett Farv's streak of, like, you know, consecutive games.
Like, well, no one's getting there.
But, you know, once upon a time, like,
or once a generation, like, someone comes along
and, like, they make her run at it.
And there's no doubt who that guy is.
It's Mahomes.
And I would even say, like, you know, Andy Reid and some of these coaches, like, they're coaching.
And, like, hey, people want to talk to Andy Reid.
Like, hey, when are you going to retire?
He is never going to retire if 15's his quarterback.
Like, who would do that?
Nobody.
Two more.
So you played for Pete Carroll.
Obviously, he now has the Raiders job.
I'm sure you saw the news over the weekend.
Chip Kelly is headed to the Raiders.
That's a major steal.
I think it's a great hire.
It's huge.
I mean, yeah, I mean, I love Pete Carroll.
You know, Colin talks a lot about, like, if you're hiring a coach,
would you hire an X's and O's guy, or would you hire a kind of a culture builder?
And one of the best culture builders in the history of the game is Pete Carroll.
Like, he did it at USC, did it in Seattle.
He learned from his sort of early mistakes with the Jets and the Patriots
and became an amazing culture builder.
And, you know, he's got a ton of respect.
And as do I for Chip Kelly.
You know, Chip Kelly was the head coach here at UCLA.
My son committed to play for Chip Kelly, got a tremendous amount of respect.
Chip Kelly basically gave a big middle finger to the college football,
you know, NIL transfer portal, like just screw up that, you know, the NCAA and his opinion has had,
and said, I'm getting out of here.
Like, I don't want any part of this.
I just want to coach football.
I don't want to deal with all the other stuff.
I want to get to the NFL.
He didn't have a window.
Bill O'Brien leaves Ohio State late to become the head coach at Boston College.
And what happens?
Chip Kelly gets to go just install his offense, call plays, and they win the national championship for Ryan Day.
And I think football people understand. They have a ton of respect for, you know, yes, the tempo and the passing game and all that stuff that he was at Oregon.
But he is kind of an old school, pull a guard, pull a tackle, we're running trap, misdirection.
And, you know, if you're going to build it from the ground up, foundationally, with the run game, Pete Carroll clearly feels like he's the guy.
and I think other people would agree.
Obviously, they don't have a quarterback.
No disrespect.
A. No Connell, Purdue guy.
But I'm curious, do you think a Sam Darnold would fit?
Do you think maybe they make a play for Kirk Cousins,
assuming the Falcons want to move off?
Like, what do you think Pete and Chip would want that quarterback?
I think with Pete, now, obviously Tom Brady's involved as well.
Yes.
You know, but, like, from my experience is with Pete,
I think Pete wants to kill a mosquito with a sledgehammer at certain positions.
Quarterback has to be one.
Go back to what he did when he got.
to Russell Wilson, right? He had paid Tavares Jackson a ton of money. They signed, went out
and find Matt Flynn to like the largest free agent contract of anybody that year. And then they
drafted a third rounder in Russell Wilson. I don't think Pete cared which one of those guys was
going to become his starter. I don't think he cared. He wanted, he loves this word, compete,
compete, compete in everything we do. And let's see like who rises to the top in this kind of
a situation. And so, like, I do believe in this, you know, the money has to be a factor, right?
But, like, I would not be surprised if he does the same thing. Kills a mosquito with a sledgehammer.
Free agency, drafts a guy, maybe someone that he already knows from his past, like, all of it.
But again, he's also not a guy that believes it needs to be built just around the quarterback.
He built that Legion of Boom before he went and got his QB. So, we'll see.
I don't know if they have enough pieces.
and the division to compete?
Like, they're still probably a couple years away.
I mean, Broncos probably pull back a little.
Listen, there are people who know Pete.
They're going to want to coach for Pete.
They're going to want to play for Pete.
And there's something about that Raiders brand.
It matters.
But didn't they say the same about Antonio Pierce?
Remember, like, Max Crosby and then we're going to Devante Adams.
We must keep him.
You've got to have the support.
You've got to have the support to go and invest in the quarterback position.
I don't think that that's something that the Las Vegas Raiders ever did.
If you don't have the quarterback, it's hard to be.
successful. And it felt like they were always pushing that, you kind of kicking that can down the road.
But, no, listen, you know how I feel about Chip? I think I've made that clear. But in terms of Pete
Carroll coming in day one, culture building, it's going to be, hey, here's our goal. We're going to
maximize the ability that we have. And maybe it's not year one that they're able to do some damage,
but they're going to build a foundation for doing damage in the future.
Do you have a Super Bowl pick? Or you want to hold off on that?
Yeah, I mean, I prefer to hold off, but I would just say, like, everything as you study it,
everything that matters points to the Eagles.
Everything.
Great defense.
You run the ball.
You have great weapons outside.
You've got a quarterback who's steady, been there, done it.
Aside from one fumble, he'd have a Super Bowl ring of his own.
But, like, just look at kind of like through the years of what Brady, there's an X factor
that the chiefs have.
And so I think it would be really, really hard to go against the chiefs.
Even though everything in your brain is telling you Philly should be that team.
Yeah.
We'll see.
I will say this, though.
That sounds like a Chief's pick, America.
I would say, but listen, the story of all the playoffs has been what?
Turnovers, specifically fumbles.
And it's not a round ball.
Special teams, great players, not having a great day.
It happens.
One of the things I learned from Pete Carroll, and this was a Kobe Bryant thing,
you can absolutely try too hard in a big moment, in a big game.
And it doesn't make sense at first.
but like if you try too hard, you can actually play worse.
And that's why Pete, one of his culture things is like,
I don't care what it is.
I don't care if it's rock, paper, scissors for per diem.
This is everything we do is a competition and a championship mindset.
So when you get in that big game, this is just what we do.
And that's how I feel about Patrick Mahomes sometimes in terms of those big moments.
This is just what we do.
Matt Hasselbeck, former three-time Pro Bowl quarterback.
Great stuff.
Thank you, Matt.

Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to a...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, a pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name?
Hey Jonas, guys.
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey, Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet.
Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian.
And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast,
hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice
and thoughtful solutions.
Sike, I'm a comedian.
I'm not qualified to give good advice.
Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally

Back here on the herd, Jason McIntyre pinch hitting for Colin Cowherd.
Good stuff from Matt Hasselbeck.
We had Rachel Nichols earlier.
We will.
We just got word.
Rick Buecker, NBA analyst here at Fox Sports.
I don't want to say he's a little Ron Hater.
and LeBron have had some beef over the years.
Rick's going to talk to us about the LeBron-Luca Union in L.A.
Oh, it's an exciting time.
Let's go to Ryan Music with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Heard Line News.
All right, Jay Mack, obviously a lot going on in the NBA,
but we'll do the NFL, some breaking news in the NFL.
A lot of speculation about Miles Garrett's future with the Browns.
Well, he put out a statement today officially requesting a trade out of,
of Cleveland, citing his quote, desire to win and compete on the biggest stages.
Now, there is a report that despite this request, the Browns might not be looking to move
Garrett, and the Browns would have to take $36 million in deadcat money if they end up
trading Garrett.
How do you see this playing out as potential landing spots from Miles Garrett?
If I'm the Browns, I say that we're not trading him, but of course you've got to trade
him.
He wants out.
And frankly, the Browns have been pretty bad.
You know?
Sifansky's a great coach, but the Deshawn Watson experiment's been terrible.
I'm trying to come up with some landing spots during the break.
We talked to, I forget who it was, Hasselbeck or Rachel.
I think the Rams could be a player.
I think Washington makes a ton of sense.
But you as a Bengals fan will be thrilled when Miles Garrett leaves the division.
He's causing Joe Burroughs some heartache and some scary moments there, huh?
That's right, yeah.
Getting him out of the division will certainly make those offensive line issues seem
a lot less glaring twice a year
when you have to face up against someone like
Miles Garrett. Yeah. In terms of
other teams, you know, I also
wonder, we know, the Lions
will get Aidan Hutchinson back, but
it was a significant injury, so
and I also don't think you could ever have too many
pass rushers in the NFL, especially
in the NFC North there, or
staying in the NFC North, maybe a
sneaky Green Bay Packers.
Last time they took a big swing on a defensive
player like that, Reggie White,
Charles Woodson. You, okay.
Every once in a while, it's out of their nature.
Not really something they do consistently,
but the times they have done it seems to pay off in the long run.
We're mentioning all NFC teams,
because if you're the Browns, you don't want to see Miles Garrett.
Certainly not in the division,
and certainly not, like, blocking your path
to get to a Super Bowl, should you be there in a couple years.
So, yeah, what about, like, an Arizona Cardinals?
I don't know what they have going on.
I saw some people speculate in the 90s,
But, yeah, Bosa's always hurt.
Sure.
It's a tough one, but Miles Garrett's going to certainly command something,
and I don't think you keep him.
If he wants out, hey, you know, we'll trade you.
Yeah, the AFC teams feel a little bit more complicated to pin down
because you think about, like, okay, who are these young, up-and-coming kind of teams?
Obviously, the Chargers had a surprising season, but they're probably going to try
and get rid of Joey Bosa.
Are they really going to replace him?
Same thing, you know, the Denver Broncos, who had a great season and a great defense.
Again, can you have too many pass around?
No, but do you really need to add there?
Or are you looking to maybe add more pieces to build around Bo Nix on the offensive side of the ball?
Baltimore Ravens, obviously, I don't think, not only do they want to avoid the AFC,
they certainly don't want an in division.
So to your point, it doesn't seem like the AFC has too many clear landing spots if they end up going that direction.
Well, this weekend's Super Bowl on Fox, we have Mahomes and the Chiefs looking to secure the NFL's first three-peat.
Mahomes is prepping for his fifth Super Bowl in the last six years.
And when he was asked, if there's anything about this team that separates them from the rest,
here's what he had to say.
This team's been special because it's been everybody.
I mean, if you look at our entire season, it's like someone that makes a big play at the biggest moment
to go out there and win a football game, if that's offense, defense, or special teams.
And so I think the fact that it's been everybody is not just offense, it's not just defense,
it's everybody on the entire team is something I'll remember this season by.
And hopefully we can do it the right way and get this final win.
Also, don't forget to catch us live from New York.
New Orleans, Thursday and Friday at noon Eastern on FS1, then check out our Super Bowl special
Friday for Eastern on Fox.
Yeah, big, big week.
Last time the Eagles and Chiefs met, it was Cadarius Tony, remember?
He had two electric plays, including the punt return, that got them into it.
Who's your guy for the Chiefs, I guess Karim Hunt, Noah Gray?
Could he make an appearance, the number two tight end?
I think what we know about the Chiefs is we actually don't know who it's going to be until the actual game.
just based off of, I mean, would you be surprised if D'Andre Hopkins has a turn back the clock game
and goes for 110 and two touchdowns?
Yeah.
And that's, what's interesting about this Chief's team is you have the balance between roster and team
construction versus collection of talent.
By the standard of collection of talent, they don't come anywhere close to being maybe even
one of the best teams in the league this year, as you've liked to point out along the way
and they may or may not have proven you wrong time and time again.
But in terms of team construction, the balance is unquestionable.
I mean, from what they're able to do on defense with a lot of those young pieces around Chris Jones,
anchoring in the middle of the defense there, and then on offense, I mean,
it all works because Mahomes elevates the receivers.
Anywhere else, it's a bottom receiving group in the league.
To Kansas City, it's maybe their third straight Super Bowl.
Yeah, I wish I had in hindsight asked Hasselbeck about a game plan.
Is there any idea during the week, hey, we see this on film.
Hollywood Brown, get ready.
You can cook either the young kid Mitchell or whoever you're matched up against.
Do they see that during the week on film and say, hey, this is potentially a Hollywood Brown game?
Sure.
I don't know.
I mean, listen, like, you've already seen it change from they just gave Travis Kelsey all the targets, made him the focal.
of the offense and their first game against the Houston Texans, and then against the Buffalo
Bills, more of an afterthought again.
Yeah.
So you can read the film or watch the film as much as you'd like.
It doesn't mean that Andy Reid and Mahomes haven't come up with something different.
I'm so sick of these guys.
Damn chiefs.
Well, at least, oh wait, no, actually, they could keep going for years after this.
Three, five, seven, whatever.
This is not a last dance type situation.
All right, the Raiders, though, are in the early stages of Pete Carroll's new regime and
have reportedly made a splashy hire.
According to Adam Schefter,
Chip Kelly will leave Ohio State
after just one season
to become the Raiders' new offensive coordinator.
And according to Albert Breer,
Chip Kelly is now going to be the highest paid coordinator
in the league at $6 million per year,
doubling the previous highest paid coordinator,
excuse me, in Todd Munkin, who was at $3 million.
You like this higher?
Wow.
I like this a lot.
Remember, I was speculating
could Ryan Day and Chip Kelly be a package somewhere,
and now Chip Kelly goes to the Raiders?
I mean, listen, he was great at Ohio State.
They were an awesome watch in the playoff.
Just don't watch a Michigan tape.
We do have some Raiders fans on the staff here.
I haven't asked them how geek they are, but Ryan, I mean,
Chip Kelly, proven winner, Pete Carroll, proven winner.
Oh, yeah.
Like, they could make some noise.
It could be interesting this year.
Oh, certainly.
I mean, look, when you, if, from Vegas's perspective,
to go from Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly,
and then we'll see a lot of mocks have them getting Shador,
Sanders falling a bit in the draft.
I mean, those three moves,
that's a win of an offseason.
No doubt about it. Now, again,
the division is just an absolute
juggernaut. So it's hard to
say that they're somehow going to go from
the four or five win team
to, you know, 10 plus.
But
Colin New with the Broncos, that
they were a team that could quickly go from
not close to contending
to a playoff spot. So if
You feel good about Chodor Sanders as an NFL prospect,
and then you have great coordinator on the offense to help develop him,
and then we know Pete Carroll can set the culture.
Wouldn't be totally out of the question.
Yeah, it's interesting.
Ohio State has two good backs, Henderson and Judkins, who are coming to the draft.
The Raiders run game situation when they lost Josh Jacobs, it was bleak-cloth.
They were starting like Amir Abdullah.
I would almost guarantee in round two or three.
They're going to grab one of the Ohio State guys.
They almost have to.
They need a run game.
They need a quarterback.
I don't know.
I know Colin's calling his shot with the Patriots next year.
I can't get there with the Raiders, but I definitely like the foundation that they've got.
Definitely heading in the right direction.
We wrap up with this.
We were talking about the Raiders there.
And after Pete Carroll was brought into Vegas, rumors were circulating that there could be a reunion
between Pete and Russell Wilson, who's a pending free agent.
But he sidestepped questions about the Raiders at the Pro Bowl, saying,
I'm looking forward to hopefully being back with the Steelers,
and we'll see what happens with the rest.
I love it in Pittsburgh.
How do you feel about a potential Russ in Vegas,
or where do you think Russ ends up next season?
I guess I'll stick with Russ in Pittsburgh,
but I don't think they're going to be as good as last year, Ryan.
I don't see it.
Some smoke and mirrors early in the season.
Reality set in.
They struggled at the end, bounced in the playoffs.
I just can't make it.
case that Russ is going to get them to 10 or 11, 12 wins again.
Almost more interesting is Justin Fields.
Sure.
Is he coveted?
Like, I don't know, is he coveted as a backup?
Does he get a shot as a starter somewhere?
Aren't many chairs left to be a starter.
But, yeah, I'm happy for Russ if he's happy, you know?
Yeah, certainly.
I mean, look, I get why for Russ, he looks at it and goes much better off in Pittsburgh.
I mean, the infrastructure of where they're at as opposed to what is going to be considered
a semi-rebuild going on in Vegas doesn't mean his chances of success are very high in the immediate
future. And as where he's at in his career, he's not looking for a three-year rebuild. He's looking
to hopefully continue building where he's at. I just don't know if like you're Pittsburgh,
are you really feeling great about bringing Russ back? At the right price?
I mean, at the right price. Like he, I think it was basically a,
like the veterans minimum.
Yeah.
So the price can't go any lower.
So what do you give, 20 mil a year?
Or is he scoffing at that because he would be one of the lowest fade quarterbacks in the league?
Yeah, I just don't see how you go much higher than that.
I know.
There's like not a case for that.
Now, is there a world where they would be interested in Kirk Cousins?
Although, Kurt Cousins, I don't know what he's got left in the tank?
Yeah, I couldn't go there with Kurt just because he, you had a good situation in Atlanta,
playing in a dome and it fell off quick.
So now you're going to take him,
I mean, he hasn't had,
he played in a dome in Minnesota
and then in Atlanta for that short time.
So like, I don't know if at this point in this career,
based off of how we saw it finish,
that all of a sudden you want him to just go
weather the elements of an AFC North division.
It's a brutal division.
With those pass rushes?
Yeah.
All right, ride music with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lies.
News. All right, we got Mark Sanchez in the final hour.
Going to talk Super Bowl week. Sanchez, he never got there, but he got to two
AFC championships. You know, he's a Jets guy, so I'm obviously a big fan. And as I said,
Rick Buecker at the top of the hour. We'll be back here on the herd after a break.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports

We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture.
Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss.
And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right?
So check us out.
We like to get you involved too.

This week we are headed to New Orleans.
The herd and the entire FS1 lineup will be live from Bourbon Street on Thursday and Friday as we get ready for Super Bowl 59.
And Friday we have a Super Bowl special at 4 Eastern on Fox.
We'll be joined by guests, special guests all week long, counting down to the big game.
Can't wait for it.
Unlike Hasselbeck, I will have a pick.
And it's going to be the Eagles.
In a teaser and stuff.
But also straight up, we'll get to obviously the game later.
But let's go back real briefly to the NBA.
The Luca Donchich moved to the Lakers.
You could just tell the excitement.
I mean, folks, everybody in L.A. is geeked.
And it is fortuitous that the Lakers keep just falling backwards
into the likes of Kobe Bryant, into Palgassol, into Luca Dantch.
It really is amazing.
And we had Rachel Nichols on earlier.
And she talked about the Luca AD trade.
What we do know is that, yes, there have been conditioning issues with him over the years.
The idea that he might be perennially unavailable, whether he was sort of flouting team rules,
whether there was a bit of sort of, hey, we've asked you to do this and you've refused time and time and time again,
whether it's the arguing with officials that they've asked him to tone down and that has actually cost his team specific losses that you can point to.
If you add all of that stuff up over all the years, I personally,
would still not trade Luca Donchich.
The idea of trading a 25-year-old
who really isn't even in his prime yet,
you are a betting against the next 10 years of Luca's future.
That is a heavy bet to make
with a guy who has frankly been a prodigy
since he was 11 years old.
You know, I saw someone compare this.
You guys have seen the movie The Big Short.
I know Coward loves that movie.
Essentially, the Dallas Mavericks are shorting Luca Donchich right now.
They decide, hey, we're out.
out of the Luca business. We think it's going to be all downhill from here. He got to the
finals once, but he just refuses to get in shape. And again, we're not in the building. Nobody is,
but we don't know how ugly it's gotten. Here's my guess, though. If it were really ugly,
like Lucas showing up with a 12-pack of beer or, you know, a rack of ribs trying to, like,
pig out in the locker room, if it were that bad, I'm sure some players would have said something
to their agent and it would have leaked out. We haven't seen reports of like a gluttonous
Luca Donch is just being really unhealthy and unsavory.
Like, I don't know.
I just, I don't totally get it.
That being said, the Lakers getting Luca may have just been the first domino.
What do they have next?
Rachel Nichols also chimed in on what the Lakers could be planning next.
And they're in a great position to make another move now, right?
Because before it was, I don't know, do you get rid of Austin Reeves because of what he means to the team right now?
Well, you don't need that anymore because you have Luca Donchich.
And so I think that they are much more flexible.
They still have a first round pick to give out.
There is no question.
A, they need a center presence, and they need a defensive center.
Because the downside of this trade that the Lakers just made is that they might score 200 points a game,
but the other team might score 230.
So, you know, they have got to get a strong defensive presence in the middle.
And I expect them to go out and do that because they have assets now.
It is interesting how the NBA trade deadline usually lines up with Super Bowl week.
I remember being in Arizona, I think it was two years ago we had the Super Bowl,
and I had left a party and I was in an Uber and my phone just starts buzzing with just a torrent of text.
And Kevin Durant had been traded to the Sons.
And it was like, oh my gosh, Katie, wow, that's crazy.
So you guys know I pay attention to the NBA and NFL very closely.
and one of the things that I try my best to do is kind of read between the lines,
what are the reporters really saying?
We know when like Schaefter and these guys put stuff out there,
they're saying what they can,
but there's other stuff that they've been told not to say they're holding back.
As a reporter, you don't unload everything that you have.
And one of the things I'd been detecting in the NBA for about two weeks now
is some, a lot of teens, it started with the Steph Curry stuff,
hey, let's keep our powder dry for the summer.
We don't know who could become available.
And I heard this from several different either teams or reporters,
and I'm like, well, I looked around.
I'm like, who the hell are they talking about?
Luca didn't even cross my mind.
And I don't think anybody thought it was Luca.
But the guy I kept coming back to was Kevin Durant.
And this is NBA trade deadline week.
It sounds like this Luca thing is going to be a springboard.
Within 24 hours, the Spurs said, let's go get this Deer and Fox deal done.
they got him.
Folks, this Jimmy Butler stuff
keeps getting ugly in Miami.
Apparently Miami wants nothing to do with Bradley Beal.
Milwaukee wants nothing to do with Bradley Beal
in like a rerout three-team trade thing.
I keep coming back to,
and I talked about it on my podcast last week,
Kevin Durant as potentially a big name
that could be on the move.
The producers did tell me
during the last commercial break,
hey, there's some Kevin Durant stuff bubbling up.
I'm just saying the NBA is wacky wild Kool-Lade style.
I love it. I love all of this.
Player movement, guys unhappy,
internal suspensions,
absolute chaos. That's kind of an environment I like to think I thrive in,
although I probably don't.
I'm excited. So Rick Buechor will be here at the top of the hour.
We will chop up what happened, what's next,
all of that. Do the Lakers have more ammo?
I want them to keep Austin Reeves,
but I would understand if he gets shipped.
Hour number three coming up.
Hey guys, it's us.
