If you just joined us, Nick Wright, five minutes. So we were talking about this for five minutes. Is you got to adjust, you got to adjust.

adapt or die. And we were talking about Dak Prescott, and Jared Gop got a new contract extension, and people go, well, what about DAC? Well, Dax now had multiple injuries. Dack, as the NFL is introducing new quarterbacks into the league, they all appear better than DEC.

C.J. Stroud's better than Dax, and it's not a big argument. He throws a better ball. He's a better quarterback. And so it's really funny. I just, during the break, just, you know, for giggles here, I wrote down the 12 best quarterback. And this is off top of my head. It could be missing one.

But I went Mahalms, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Stafford, five. And then Justin Herbert, six, with hardball, he'll flourish. And then I put Goff seven, C.J. Stroud, eight. I'm going to give Goff more credit because he's done it longer. But I think C.J. Stroud may be better. But let me see another year of it. And nine, I went Kyler Murray, who I love. Ten, Trevor Lawrence.

11, Jalen Hertz, 12 Jordan Love. And 13. I think Caleb Williams, Week 1 will be better than Dak and Kirk Cousins. So as you keep introducing, I mean, if you watch the Jaden Daniels camp stuff for Washington, whoo-wee, that dude, he's it. Have you seen that? Have you seen hits all over the internet? Jaden Daniels baller.

Jaden Daniels and camp is doing good, huh? Interesting. Did you forget who was runner up to MVP last year? Dack Prescott. Do you remember who got fourth? Brock Purdy. I'm looking down the list for Jared Gough. Oh, he wasn't top 10.

Interesting. I think did not Gough lead the NFL? last year. Didn't he lead the NFL in like, was it passing yards or passing touchdown? He didn't get any. MVP votes. Well, that's, what, what, you had the, how the post-season. Because golf's postseason, he was pretty good.

I didn't see Dax. Oh, you got eliminated. Yeah, Dak did not have a great postseason game. But one game versus 17. All these young quarterbacks, I saw Jordan Love and Dack play. It wasn't close. Not close. Like, it's very obvious.

C.J. Stroud. The kid's good. I mean, I have to acknowledge, I, you know, his, what's funny is, his comp was Jared Goff as if that's a bad comp. And I said, yeah, he didn't have a ton of juice, but, you know, Goff's committed with Super Bowl. And now Stroud looks like Goff, and we're all like, Stroud's amazing. Well, his comp is Goff. So, yeah, you can't not like golf and love Stroud.

They play very, I mean, I think CJ moves better, but he's not like a runner. He had a great season, no doubt. That's what I'm saying. I'd like to see Jordan Love eight more games. CJ Stroud, let me go to Thanksgiving. but it looks like Jordan Love and C.J. Stroud are top 10 guys. I didn't hear Brock Purdy on your list. He's got now two one and a half seasons of data, which is more than Jordan Love.

I bumped him up to 17 right below Russell Wilson. Anyway, so, but, you know what? I want to go before I get to my Aaron, so Nick did not get to hear my Aaron Rogers conspiracy theory. In honor of Aaron's conspiracy theories, I started the show an hour ago, saying the NFL does nothing by coincidence. Everything strategic. Christmas Day, take the oxygen out of the NBA. Free agent period, they extend it, hurt March Madness.

This is what, college football, they're going to do games during the playoff. Nothing is by, nothing is random. Nothing is coincidence. They go to the Jets and Aaron Rogers, who's become controversial. The NFL doesn't like controversy. They had it with Kaepernick ratings briefly went down. Aaron increasingly is controversial. The single toughest game on their schedule.

San Francisco opener facing an offensive coach to open the season. Andy Reed, McVeigh and Shanahan, nightmare. Three new offensive linemen veterans. Who doesn't? What's the one group in the league that is hardest to build chemistry? Offensive line. Aaron off an Achilles surgery against that pass rush

I think the NFL said, you know what? We got other stars. Caleb Williams will give him an easy opener. Aaron, go to San Francisco. Am I nuts? Yes, you are. So let me tell you I disagree.

So I agree that they don't do anything, you know, accidentally everything has forethought. It would appear from what we have seen from the schedule early. The Chiefs getting the Ravens and the Bengals immediately. Aaron Rogers, toughest game in one of the most marquee games, Aaron going back to Northern California being immediately. That the NFL, I think, may be smartly, is saying some of these games are only marquee games because of the quarterbacks playing. So we want to

front load those games because if Joe Burrow gets hurt at some point, then Chiefs Bengals loses all of its appeal. Last year they saved it to Week 16 Burroughs out. How many games did the Jets have on national TV that people then didn't care about because Aaron was out? I think maybe what you're going to see on this year's schedule is teams that are really quarterback-centric, you're going to see a lot of their bigger games early with the belief being later in the season.

The people will tune in because of playoff implications, because of storylines. Early in the season, let's make sure that these marquee quarterback matchups have the best chance of having healthy quarterbacks. That's how I'm reading it. Maybe

you're correct, but I think the NFL would love Aaron to be relevant and good since the New York Giants are in a gap year. By the way, speaking of New York football, Can I give you not a conspiracy theory, but a long-term prediction that I haven't shared, I don't think, anywhere. Okay. But you brought up the Jets between anything of the Giants.

So I think it's really on the board. Daniel Jeremiah alluded to this, that Drew Locke ends up starting more games this year than Daniel Jones, that the Giants are clearly in a transition period this season. I think it is on the board that Dak Prescott. and Bill Belichick are a package deal next season to the New York Giants. That Bill gets to come back to the Giants. They get to steal away the Cowboys quarterback, answer that problem, and Bill instead of...

Because everywhere that Bill could go, it's like, well, the job's open probably because they don't have a quarterback. He already went through that. I think Bill and Dak could go, and you could remake an entire organization, head coach and quarterback a year from now, with Dak Prescott, the free agent and Bill Belichick, the head coach, and I think the New York Giants are a very viable possibility there.

So just put that out there. Not really a conspiracy theory, just a long-term prediction. So the Giants, once again, will pay a quarterback significantly more than what he's worth, and they think that's the answer to success. Well, that is true. I'll tell you what's not the answer to success. Drew Locke. Remember John Schneider?

When they sign him, they're like, oh, he wanted to go somewhere he could compete first, starting job. Daniel Jones, not the answer. Drew Locke's not the answer. Dak would be the best quarterback they've had there since Eli, when Eli was good a decade ago. I'm going to throw this out. So generally, Nick, there's about 10 superstars in the NBA. Stars, superstar guys, maybe more, but I'm talking about the real stars. And I generally like all of them except one. I push back on Blake Griffin. I said, I don't get it. Take the dunks out. What do I have? I push back on mellow. A low efficiency jump shooter. I'm not sure he's in great shape doesn't play well with others i push back on derrick rose hyper athletic can't shoot scoring at the

rim unsustainable i push back a little bit on westbrook although he was fun to watch and i often said i'd pay to watch westbrook play but i didn't think he was a title guy um and so those are the ones that i i top my head that i push back on i'm getting closer to that with luca who oh no no hold on who unlike Yokic or Steph, when they don't have the ball, Yokinj and Steph are incredibly valuable to teammates. Luca disappears on the TV screen. He's disengaged. It's very much, hey, if you get me a shot or I get a shot,

I won't even work hard for the corner three. 92 of his 96 threes, he won't go to the corner. You don't want to put the work in. He literally is hard to find on the TV screen if he doesn't have the ball. And I don't know how you take that indifference, that selfishness, and tweak it. I can tweak your shot, your low post game. I can't tweak indifference. He's a selfish player who doesn't work without the ball.

If he doesn't have it, good luck, guys. I didn't say it was there yet. But I'm getting closer to him being in that club. All right. I think, all right, well, I think that's crazy. I also think talking about how Luca operates in a basketball game when he's doesn't have the ball is like talking about how Cowherd operates on this show when he doesn't have the microphone. Like who cares he's always going to have it. Like yeah, he's not working on

the corner three because the ball's always in his hands. So a few Luca Donchich facts just for the record. Luca has never had home court advantage in a playoff series, has been the underdog in every playoff series he's ever played in. His first two playoff series of his career, he went up against Kauai and or Paul George on every single possession, essentially. They were healthy in both those series, despite that he averaged 33 points per game. And now this year, he was a couple made free throws away from being up 3-1 in route to his second conference finals in the last three years. I still think the Mavs are going to win this series.

Luca, I think, is having by far, not I think I know, his roughest postseason to date. There is no denying that. And I think yesterday was a crushing loss because they could have, they were leading that game wire to wire despite Luca having 18 and Kyrie not breaking double figures. And they could have taken a commanding lead in that series. Luca's not a perfect player. And I don't mind the yelling at the refs. I don't love the whining at the refs. And when he's playing well, he's yelling.

When he's not, it's more whining. And I think it kind of pulls him down a bit. but there is no world that exists where he's not one of the five best players in the league. He has committed himself more on the defensive end than he had in the past. And I think right now he's in a bit of a slump. He is a great, great player who, by the way, very well might end up in the NBA finals this year. And so I think you're selling him short a bit. All right.

So this is one of Nick's things that he does. it's probably my favorite thing he does. It's called club superstar. He revealed it yesterday. So Nick, it should be noted, that all of us sort of lean into who we are, and Nick went to clubs. Probably still does. Beautiful wife.

He goes to clubs. He'll smoke cigarettes and do club things. And I don't. I go to work out clubs, do sit-ups. You're more of a club guy. I call him occasionally. I mean, I literally call Nick occasionally. What are you doing?

I'm driving home from playing poker all night, all night. So you were different people. Yeah, that's right. Listen, we don't have to get into our personal lives. I'm sorry, Colin, that I, you know, when I'm off the clock, I might enjoy myself a bit. I've met my wife when she was promoting a club. It is a bond between us. So, yeah, we still go out occasionally.

Also, as you know, even at your silly workout clubs you claim to go, just probably not even a workout club. Try like a squash club. It's you and some CFO with some hedge fund. I mean, playing paddle or something. But doesn't matter. They are one in, one out. You cannot have, you need a line out the door so people know it's popular, and you can't be over capacity.

So, NBA club superstar has a 12-person capacity. And so we had to throw out Damian Lillard, Devin Booker, and Jimmy Butler to make room for the three newest superstars, SGA, Anthony Edwards, and the most controversial inclusion. Jalen Brunson waiting in line to get in are Kyrie, Donovan, Maxi, Jamal Murray, and Wimby, and then the nine guys who were in last year who stayed in are Tatum, Luca Durant, Embed, Joker, Janice, LeBron, A.D., and Steph. Now, I know you probably are ready to kick Anthony Davis out and put in, I don't know who, but I'm certain that's your first guy out.

No, I actually... That's Club Superstar. No, I agree with your picks. I really do. I think I have no problem with Brunson. You know, your legacy has to be to a large degree. You taught me this years ago. You said when you bang on a guy about his defense, you're like, you know, outsider Russell that era.

70% of the NBA is offense, not defense. And the truth is when it comes to legacy, 70% of its playoffs not regular season, there's a different intensity. Brunson's a better playoff guy than a regular season guy. I have no problem with Brunson being in. This is the club superstar. Yeah. We opened it yesterday. And then the question I would have for you, Colin, before I move on,

I think it's a pretty good bet that Wimby gets in next year. Yes. All right, if not Wimby, someone else. So who do you think of those 12 in? Ant-Man, Janus, LeBron, A.D., Steph, Joker, Embed, SGA, KD, Luca, Tatum, Brunson. Who do you think is the most nervous? Because again, it's one in, one out. If Wimby comes in, someone's got to go out.

Who do you think is on the bubble right now on Club Superstar? You know I don't hold M-B'd in the same regard the rest of the world does. Oh, wow. I don't. Wow. Oh, hey, again, playoffs, regular season. I'm sorry. You're consistent with it.

That's fair. Also, by the way, I don't know if you can see. Steph Curry is in the Cancun room, which means you didn't make the playoffs. The club does not allow you to stay in that room for consecutive years, which means if they miss the playoffs next year, steps out. It's just the rules of the club. It can't be a superstar, missed playoffs two years in a row.

It's just the rules. Do you guys have a door? What do they call that when you go to a club and you pay? Bouncers. No, not the bouncers. Oh, a door charge, what it costs? Yeah, no. Yeah, it's $200 a person, but you're on the list.

You would get in for free. Okay. finally so in my theory that they're making it a little tougher on Aaron Rogers brand friendly Kansas City opens with a couple of home games Andy reads great in September even greater at home in September and I do believe the league likes the Chiefs thinks they're Midwest likable coach who loves his short ribs and burgers Mahomes stays out of it fun loving what did you make of the back-to-back home games the Chiefs got?

Well, listen, I think this is the ideal start to the season for the Chiefs. And I think if I were Baltimore or Cincinnati, I'm really not happy about it. Now, listen, who they're playing and where they're playing, that is set in stone and it's not set by the league. So they were going to get a home game against Baltimore, and they were going to get a home game against Cincinnati. But putting them where they put them in the schedule, I think is massively advantageous to the Chiefs. So let's deal with them each individually. If you're Baltimore, I know we don't talk about AFC championship game hangovers. We talk about Super Bowl hangovers.

But think about it, Colin. Last year was the best season you have had for your franchise in more than a decade. You win league MVP. You have a dominant playoff game in round two. hosting the Chiefs, it's your time. And now the next game you play is in their building, watching them hang the banner you thought you were going to get to hang? That is devastating.

And if the Chiefs beat them, then I think that can set their season off, you know, a skew to start with. And then if you're Cincinnati, you're saying, wait a minute. Joe Burrow, we start slow every year for some reason. well under with since Joe Burroughs been here every single year we've lost our week two game every single year we've been at or below five hundred through two weeks and now

our most important game not only are you putting it in week two but the chiefs get extra rest the chiefs are gonna be on a mini by for our biggest game of the year at home we're gonna be coming off regular rest so i think if i were baltimore cincinnati i'd be furious if you're at kansas city i mean listen let's

Let's be honest. I mean, the Chief probably should have been in five straight Super Bowls, if not for an odd quarter of football by Patrick Mahomes against these Cincinnati Bengals. They've been getting revenge on them ever since, and now they're going to become the first team ever to win three Super Bowls in a row. What better way to start the year than dispatching of the Ravens and the Bengals to start to let everyone know. This year's not going to be like last year where there's real trepidation. It's going to be smooth sailing from the beginning.

Let's get him on TV before, you know, he goes, crumbles down onto the turf. I tend to think the Jets will start slow, but eventually Aaron will play, have a decent season.

But, but, you know, it's interesting. You know when I did that to start the hour, J. Mack? It's so funny. I didn't put Aaron in the top 12. Because I really don't know what it's going to look like. I don't know where to put Aaron Rogers right now. I have no idea. I have no idea what it's going to look like.

Well, where did you have him last year? Well, I always feel like Aaron keeps going down like a spot or two. And I think last year it was like eight or nine. And it's like Jordan Love right now, in my opinion, is a better quarterback. Off eight games. I just, not everything has to be the 401K. People literally on American Idol would give somebody 18 seconds and go, you're a hip. Not everything takes forever.

I mean, like, CJ Stroud by the second. week. We were all like, oh, that works. Joe Burrell first week. Herbert first week. Kyler Murray first week. I remember Matt Ryan, first or second week. I was like, yeah, that's a franchise quarterback. When you have to wait to a second, third year, Justin Fields, it's not a franchise quarterback. Jordan Love is in year three. No, but I mean first year of starting. And it was choppy for four or five, but by week eight, nine, ten, you're like, yeah, this is what he kind of look like in college. So Rogers is below C.J. Stroud, obviously.

I would take, no, I'm just, if you see J. Stroud, you could pick tomorrow for the next three years. Forget years. Who do you think right now is better C.J. or Aaron? I would say C.J. Stroud. Okay. Kyler Murray or Aaron? I would take Connor Murray. No, I'm not knocking Aaron. His last year in Watson or Aaron Rogers. Aaron.

Yeah. Aaron. But I would say, in Aaron's last year in Green Bay, I'm just working off what I've seen. He wasn't nearly as good Jordan loved last year. Okay. I think you need to do 1 to 32. Let's just rank them all. Rank every starting quarterback. Nobody has time for that. What do you mean?

People, stop it. Nobody has time for that. Well, no, nobody cares about quarterback 21. But I would say, I mean, it might be Drake May for all, I don't know, is it Jane Daniels? You were just hot on him for an awesome training camp or something like that. Come on. I don't know. Is Caleb? You said maybe it was during the commercial break, something about

Caleb Williams. I don't know. Maybe you have him top 25 and he hasn't taken a snap in the NFL. I think Caleb Williams, by week one or two, you will say he's better than Aaron. And that's not a knock at Aaron. I think he's that talented. You think I'm crazy. By week two, I looked at C.J. Stroud, and I'm like, oh, yeah, this is

this is Jared Goff, but it took Goff a year to get Sean McVeigh. By Goff's second year with McVeigh, you were like, okay, that's the number one pick. He looks really good. But C.J. Stroud got the right coach, right left tackle,

right out of the draft. So it's different. But Goff looked like Stroud, but it took, you know, Thanksgiving year two when he had McVeigh, he had the left tackle, he had the right staff. And maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe cousins and Rogers coming off to Sequilles aren't good. I don't, we'll see. Maybe you're right, and I'm being too harsh on you.

I think all these young guys coming into the league, they're putting in the time, they're not distracted, they're in their athletic prime, they heal faster. Many of them have excellent coaches. Aaron's got a defensive coach who's on the hot seat and a rebuilt O-W-W-W-I. You think he's listening to the defensive coach, Colin? It's Aaron Rogers. Well, they're responsible for a lot of decisions. I think Aaron's calling his own number.

there was always this complaint about how they got the perfect schedule. Kansas City is a dynasty. The NFL's like, you know, let's start it in Kansas City. Drop the banner. Burl Lamar have to go to Arrowhead. Just a thought. J. Mack with the news. Turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. NFL, I'm just saying the NFL's not a coincidence league. Sometimes I just look at Cowherty and he's got this grin like he's like suspicious of everything. It's one of those days. You're on one today. Cafe Americano times six. Is that what's going on? I've had a dark chocolate, shot a Red Bull, Cafe Americana.

What TV show, except Acorn? Well, everybody's good looking on those streaming shows. I mean, except Acorn, which has all the British actors that look like real people. And that, for the record, is wildly underrated. By the way, patronize To Be. That's ours. That's very good, too. Yes, yes, sure.

Okay. Let's start with Caleb Williams, your guy. I think we're going to talk a lot about Caleb Williams. Chicago fans are pumped up. So fired up. He went first overall. He is the new bear starting quarterback. He's got rave reviews and one NFL scout called him a supercharged Donovan McNabb. It can be the face of the franchise for years. Donovan McNabb made a Super Bowl with the Eagles, multiple NFC title games.

That would be amazing if Caleb Williams did that for Chicago. Yeah, I think he's much. better. Nothing against Donovan, but I think he's more athletic and I think he's more accurate. And I think he's just better. I think you could say, yeah, will this be a Kobe

MJ where he's not Mahomes but he's the closest thing to Mahomes? Oh, come on. So like Kobe was an MJ, but he's the closest thing we've ever seen to MJ. There's a lot of Kobe qualities where you're like, oh, he has better range. He's got better range

than Michael Jordan. What if we watch Mahomes and go, he's actually more athletic than Mahomes. He's not quite as good on the underneath stuff. Maybe he doesn't have this coach or that. I mean, it's going to be hard for him to ever get a coach that's close to Andy Reed. Remember Mahomes? You don't think that evil flus is close to Andy?

No, but remember this about Mahomes. Don't forget this, J. Mack. If you go back to Mahomes' early career with Tyreek Hill, a lot of free stuff over the top. That shut down. Mahomes can get a little bit into the weeds mechanically, and Andy would bring him back.

like Brian Daibold did with Josh Allen, who could get a little off his mechanics. Matt Stafford has a tendency to get a little mechanically raw, loose. McVeigh brings him back. So a lot of these really talented guys in Stafford and Mahomes and Allen, you know, they're like a great golfer who's long off the tea. Sometimes they get, you know, they're a little out in the weeds a little bit. And, you know, when you have all that great talent, you want to show it off and you lean into it. So remember, Mahomes was an unfinished product, and every time early in his career, he kind of detour.

Andy take about two to three weeks, Andy would get him back in the fairway. Caleb's not going to have that in Chicago. So that is the one. I think eventually he'll get an offensive coach. I'm not saying this year next, but I do think with a young quarterback, especially one that has a propensity, Lamar, Mahomes. Josh Allen, to be a little bit of a freelancer at times, you got to, I think the offensive coach helps.

Over under, and this is a projection, over under one and a half NFC title game trips for Caleb Williams. Over. Just remember, if we did this for Trevor Lawrence coming into his career, you would have smashed the over. And he has... Well, the AFC has been much, much deeper at quarterback. Also fair, but the NFC's kind of coming up with your guy, Jordan Love,

and your guy, Jared Gough, and my guy, they're just good quarterback. Bryce Young? My guy. Come on, you love George. Nobody loves Jordan Love as much as you. I think the state of Wisconsin loves him. Well, obviously, they do. They're fans.

You're just a guy out here in California who loves Jordan Love. Irrational love. No, I think I'm reasonable and fair. And when I, five weeks in, I'm like, this is garbage. This isn't good enough. Matt Lefleur was mad with him. But I also have to be reasonable. reasonable, fair. And when somebody flourishes, I have to say, yeah, okay, I'm wrong.

I don't have a problem doing it. I don't know why that's a hard thing. Well, Brutte's flourished now for a year and a half, and you're just not giving them the respect. With nine Hall of Famers around. Here we go again. It's like driving a Mercedes to work. Just don't hit a tree. Yesterday, next story. Yesterday at the company up fronts, Fox announced Tom Brady will make his broadcasting debut, calling America's Game of the Week. featuring the Cowboys at the Browns in week one September 8th, 4 p.m.

on Fox. Brady's first announcing game in the NFL. I know you're fired up for it. I will probably be on the Browns in this one. Browns are tough at home. I don't trust Deshawn. I mean, Joshon Watson wasn't even healthy at the end of the year. I don't, I take

Dallas. I don't. I don't know. A lot of unknowns. I don't know where Nick Chubbs, what's going to be? Cleveland's got way too many issues that are mysteries. Dallas doesn't have any mysteries. They just don't have enough weapons for DAC, but I don't think they're mysterious. Cleveland's too murky for me. I don't know what to make of the whole Deshawn injury thing.

I don't know. He was injured. I know, but there was this didn't practice, did practice, and then game time I'm not playing. You never see that with a quarterback. He was clear to play and said, I want to play. I've never seen that in my life. life in the NFL. You're clear to play. You play. Late last year, their offensive

line was decimated. Yes, three, four guys down. And you may have forgotten. They have Jerry Judy in Cleveland now to pair with Amari Cooper. I know you weren't high on Judy. I'm not high on Judy. I think he's loose and not dependable. I think the Browns are a good bet to win that division.

Oh, come on. Organizationalally, it's number four. I love to Pan-Ski. I'm not betting on the organization. I'm betting on the team. Not the organization. Yeah, I know the owner's stinks, but I love their coach. I think he's right up there with one of the best in the league. I think he's great.

I think he's better into Bengals coach. Sorry, Bengals fans. Well, I think Stafansky's really, really good. Yeah. And then it's Ravens are going to pull back a little. We know that. Shocking. You ever listen to Cleveland, uh, uh, Cleveland media has been hard on Stafansky.

Like, do they realize what he's dealt with for years? It's the media. That's what they do. They're angry. Like they're negative. Laughs, good times on the show. Well, that's, we're not really the, are we the media or we're just? Not really.

You could stop right there, nobody cares. I'm crushing it, but I need the Pacers tonight.

It's tough as a Knicks fan, Colin? I love New York games at home. I just like the garden, the vibe. I think it's cool. I mean, I don't know if they have enough left in the tank. I don't think, I don't know if they do either. And Indiana's got better depth. They have better bench scoring.

Way better. They made a good adjustment. Listen, putting knee-smith on Brunston. Carlisle's a veteran coach. He knows what he's doing. He was messing it up early in the series. I got on his case after game two. No, small market issue.

By the way, there is a, I don't know if it's a rumor, but there's an extra day in this series at between game five and six. And some people are saying it's because Caitlin Clark's home opener is in Indiana. Remember, you made that bold call. And if there's an extra day to help the Knicks because of Caitlin Clark, that would kind of be funny if it ends up ruining the Pacers. Because an extra day for the Knicks would be huge. When's her home opener?

I believe her home opener is Thursday? Okay, yeah, Thursday. And then Friday, they push the Pacers game. So if the Knicks are able to win this and then get an extra day thanks to Caitlin Clark. Huge. It'd be big. Game 7 in New York. That's a big break.

And Caitlin Clark's game Thursday is going to be big. It will get a... I'm telling you right now. Listen, I don't know if it'll lead the show Friday because the NFL schedule is coming out, but... Well, NFL schedule comes out. But technically Wednesday. But Thursday's when, like, all the fun stuff comes. And then the lines are out and second and third order effects.

our dog's name is buddy that's a great name for a dog it is hey buddy uh in case you forget it you know So it is, I said this, I'm willing if I have questions about a quarterback and they end up being good to go on the air and just say, yeah, I missed on that one. I mean, NFL GMs whiffed all the time. I didn't like Zach Wilson. The Jets people did. I like Darnold. A lot of people did. Others didn't.

It didn't work. We'll see how he does in Minnesota. But the Justin Fields thing, I was willing to give him a chance, but he just never got better. How? that the talent around him got better. They kept drafting O'Linemen. O'Line was never as bad in Chicago at the end as everybody wants to say. PFF had it middle of the pack.

It wasn't great. It wasn't terrible. But it is interesting. A story out today about Justin Fields is, according to Ty Dunn, who we've had on this show, in fact, he won our first Big J. Journalism Award in the herd, first and only, said that the quarterback room was blanking toxic as hell with Justin Fields, Nick Foles, Andy Dalton. That there were arguments among the quarterbacks. Nick Foles finally just gave up on him multiple times trying, you know, as a Super Bowl-winning quarterback to help the young guy,

and he would often find Justin Fields not paying attention on his phone, not really interested in taking advice. And so, listen, word travels fast in the... NFL, it can be a very gossipy league. The fact he only went for a sixth round pick is an indictment clearly, because it's not like Mac Jones. You didn't see a ton of upside or talent. With Justin, you did. And there've always been a lot of defenders with Justin Fields.

Again, it's easy to fall in love with talent. But I always felt with Lamar Jackson, and I'm seeing it now with Jordan Love, I may have some misgivings year one, but you see. the time they have put into the position. You could watch Lamar get better in the pocket. His body got bigger. Lamar Jackson is better every single year. He adds a layer to it.

Like LeBron and basketball, he just adds a layer to it. I never saw that with Justin Fields. Dan Orlovsky got criticized for questioning work ethic before he was drafted. I didn't hear that. I made calls, but he took a lot of pushback on that. Well, Justin Fields never got better. Some of that's on Justin Fields because the offensive line got better and the weapons got better. And now this story where a couple of veteran quarterbacks wanted to help and he wasn't there for it.

So quarterback more than any position maybe in American sports is a highly collaborative position. I mean, Brady would take his receivers on vacation to Costa Rica with him. Mark Sanchez talked to, he'd fly the guys out off season to Los Angeles to work out. That's what they do. It's a collaborative position. Justin Fields, too often,

his default position in trouble, freewheel. I'm on a freewheel. That's not the position. It is a timing position. Timing is hours on task. And I see that with Lamar. I've seen that with Josh Allen. I've seen that with other quarterbacks.

And with Justin Fields, he never got better. He went for a six-rounder. He was awful in the fourth quarter. And now this story. So I always thought one of his issues, and I saw this was Zach Wilson, that he struggled to identify defenses quickly. I think Zach and Justin both struggle with this. I don't know work ethic of either.

I'm sure they care. But it's reasonable to say a way to solve. that is obviously film room time on task more hours and so I went to Justin Fields draft profile weaknesses and many people

didn't have a feel for edge pressure doesn't release ball quickly enough stagnant eyes invite coverage to the passing party I'm not sure exactly what that means so it's again there were a lot of defenders

of Justin Fields but you got you have to be fair as well. And if we're going to be critical to Zach Wilson, which I was, I was pretty supportive of Justin Fields, but like Thanksgiving of his last year in Chicago, like he did not getting better. And I'm seeing Jordan Love make big improvements. I'm watching Lamar Jackson every year make substantial improvements, body, mind, pocket awareness passing. I never saw it with Justin Fields. So this is not a great story for him. Word travels fast. It's a gossipy league and now basically the quote is the quarterback room in chicago was blanking toxic as blank nick foals andy dalton those are not toxic guys those are not like you know pokey in the ribs

guys like nick foals is like one of the most chill guys in the league andy dalton may be the nicest guy in the league so it's something right it's a little bit of an indictment right something a little isn't he more talented than six round four pick looks like it like mac jones six round pick i kind of get justin you're like weren't we all like that that's it i mean tray lance didn't work in san francisco but the niners coaches loved him everybody in san francisco liked him that was never the issue they liked the kid it just didn't work accuracy but he garnered a fourth round pick he's good in the room so if you're not going to be great on the field you got to be good in the room you can't be bad on the field bad in the room

that was, you know, that's, that we've had quarterbacks in the league like that. Like Johnny Mansell wasn't committed in the room, wasn't good on the field. Like you're out of the league. You can't do that. And I'm not saying, I'm not saying Justin doesn't rise to that, not perfectly analogous to that. But it's not, it's not a great story. Yeah, we had someone a little over a year ago come in here and tell us, you remember to our face about. Fields would be like, you know, and show up one minute before the meeting starts. He's got his hat on.

We heard that. slouched. Like, imagine if I just came up here and sat and I was just like, you know, just checked out. That was last Wednesday, I didn't say anything. No, again, again, when you're that talented and go for a six-round pick, it's reason. And this story comes out. Well, who would nobody, Albert Brewer's not making the story up. It's definitely not made up.

It's something. And then you start the drip, drip, drip, drip, drip. I said, hopefully he gets his wake-up call, you know, now in, you know, nobody wants you around the league. and now you're back up to? We say this all the time. We root for all quarterbacks to succeed. Bad quarterback play, because 50, 60 guys will play.

We don't root for any bad quarterback play. It's bad television, and we're forced to watch this stuff because it's our job. We are looking for B plus and up. We are rooting for B plus and up quarterback play. I'd love, I think Justin Fields will get another shot. I don't think it'll be Pittsburgh. Hour three next.
