This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.
Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away,

Oh, here we go.
It's hour two.
It is a Friday.
I'm so fired up to watch all these college bowl games later.
So excited.
Live in L.A., it's the herd wherever you may be,
and however you may be listening.
Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1.
Everybody's going to go out for New Year's,
and they're going to look all beautiful,
and I'm going to be wearing sweatpants,
ordering chicken parm,
watching the Michigan Wolverines and the Georgia Bulldogs.
The chicken parm night?
Oh, absolutely.
I'm going to watch a classic Big Ten Power
and SEC power. I'm so excited for it.
Is it a cocktail and cigar
night, too?
It doesn't look like it's going to rain today.
It is? No, it doesn't look like it's going to rain today.
Folks, you can't believe what we're dealing with
here in Los Angeles. We saw moisture
in the air. You know, I was
talking about you yesterday. I was like, calling
goes through these phases when it rains in
L.A. We've known each other
and work together for so long.
We're like work family.
Yeah. I know your beats.
It'll start raining, and you get so excited that
it's raining because it's Seattle and you sleep well when it rains. I can jog. You like the nice
brisk jog with the fogs. You get excited. And then it's like day two of the rain. You're so excited.
But like, you know, it's fine. Three, you're like starting to talk about it a little bit more.
And by day four with the rain, you've had enough. By day four, I'm like, there's a reason I lived
LA. What is with somebody? I need to break up my taxes for all this rain. And that's where we are now.
All right. Well, all of our odds are provided by Foxbat Sportsbook. I tell you every week I think I have the
best picks on the board. I mean, I study this stuff. I try
really hard. Let's try to do
it this week. Let's end with a bang our blazing five.
That's a hot one. Let's
blaze it up. It's Collins
Blazing Five. Raiders at Colts. I'm going to take
the Colts minus seven. I hope
you got a better number, but I still like them. They have
an extra day of trap because
they played on Saturday. All nine of their
wins have come by six plus points.
When they win, they win big. And they've
held their opponents under 20 points
of five of six games. Translation, this
team is rolling. They can play with anybody in the league right now. Jonathan Taylor is number one
virtually at everything. They have a great identity. And the Raiders, when they do lose,
six of their seven losses have come by seven or more points. I think I get a hotter team.
I got Carson Wentz, Quentin Nelson, they're ready to go. I'm going to take Indy to win and cover
3123. Dolphins at Titans. One of my favorite games of the week, I'm going to take the Titans minus
three and a half. So remember, the Dolphins run a short week of rest, right? Because they played Monday.
The Titans play the previous Thursday. So I get one team on a short week, one team on long rest,
and the Titans defense is number two in the NFL in rush, meaning two is going to have to throw.
And by the way, he's been held under 200 passing yards in back-to-back games. That's not a
recipe for them. The Dolphins, let's be honest about them. They've beaten in their winning streak.
Tyrod, Taylor, Joe Flacco, Cam Newton, PJ Walker, Mike Glennon, Zach, Will,
than Ian Book. They did beat Lamar, but in this instance, I get a short prep against a longer
prep. I love what Tennessee is doing. They're getting healthier. I'm going to take Tennessee to
beat Miami and snap the streak 28 to 23. Eagles and Washington. I like another upset here. I'm going to
take Washington plus the points. Listen, they're six and two this year when they have one turnover or
fewer. Well, why would I then like them? Because Philadelphia's defense does not turn up the heat.
The Eagles defense is 26th in takeaways and 30th in sacks.
Quarterbacks have all day to throw.
And Jalen Hertz can run, but if he falls behind, it's not about passing.
Miles Sanders, broken hand, his ally in the backfield out.
Jalen Hertz still dealing with an ankle injury.
I'm going to take Washington and the points to upset the Eagles, 26 to 23.
Taylor Heineck, whoever quarterbacks then will be more comfortable.
Broncos at Chargers.
I bet four and against the Chargers more than any team in the league,
and I've been really good with the Chargers this year.
I think they're going to win in cover against the Broncos.
I'm going to take the Chargers.
First of all, Austin Eccler is back.
Joey Bosa is back.
Mike Williams is back.
And these really important star players matter to younger quarterbacks more than older quarterbacks.
And the Chargers' offense has 50 total touchdowns.
Only the Cowboys in Tampa have more.
Their offense this year has been spectacular for the Chargers.
Top five in virtually every single.
thing that matters. The Broncos have lost three of four. Drew Locke, who is not healthy as starting,
Teddy Bridgewater hasn't practiced. There's a protocol and a concussion protocol. So I think you could
have Drew Locke on the road against the desperate charger team with a star-studded offense. I'm going
to take the chargers to win 2820 and cover.
Browns at Steelers. Fascinating game. I'm going to take the Steelers plus the points here.
Mike Tomlin's a great underdog coach.
They're 14 and 0 against the Browns at home in Tomlin's era.
And the Steelers were humiliated last week.
You know my rule.
Proud organizations with good players that get humiliated always play well the next week.
And the Steelers were made fun of on the road.
Ben's last home game.
I'm going to get all sorts of emotion.
And T.J. Watts going to play.
Steelers are seven and two when he plays at least 60% of the snaps.
The Browns have lost three of four.
Baker has not been good on the road this year.
He's only two and five.
He was a real disaster last week.
I know it's an upset, but I've seen weird things in sports.
The Steelers have had many good Sundays.
Tomlin as a dog.
Tomlin at home against the Browns.
Big Ben's last home game.
T.J. Watt playing a lot.
Baker has struggled away from Cleveland this year.
Steelers and the points, the upset 24, 23.
So I like dogs this week.
I got a lot of dogs in two favorites.
My favorites are the Chargers and the Titans.
I really like the Titans.
But I'm going to take Washington and the Steelers.
I also have the Colts.
Washington and the Steelers with upsets in the NFL.
It's hard to call Pittsburgh over Cleveland an upset because, you know, it's a divisional game.
Remember, no weekend is the same in the NFL.
Doesn't matter what Pittsburgh looked like a week ago.
Three weeks ago, they were great.
And with that, we bring in Greg Jennings, 10 years in the league, two Pro Bowls, a Super Bowl.
So he lives in Minneapolis.
And by the way, look at Greg.
Greg looks like he's out of some GQ gentleman's magazine for fashion.
So you live in Minneapolis.
And today, you know, Carson Wentz and Kirk Cousins did not get vaccinated.
And 95% of the NFL did.
And now Kirk Cousins can't play against the Packers.
a franchise, by the way, he's had some good Sundays against Green Bay, as you know.
He's been Rogers on three or four times.
So how is it playing in your city this morning?
Kirk Cousins made a choice.
It's not the choice of a majority of Minnesotans.
What are they saying?
Well, it's tough.
With the team, obviously, the guys respect his decision to not get vaccinated.
And I think you have to come to grips with that in the locker room first.
And then the outside noise and the chatter going into the locker room doesn't matter.
But it does not mean you don't hear it.
And it's loud.
You know, obviously these fans have wanted to win.
And obviously the Packers are one of those games that is always circled,
especially at the end of the year when so much of the season lie in the balance.
And on the arm, what one thought was going to be on Kirk Cousins, who has had success.
Well, he's not available.
So now you go to a backup and you hope that there is chemistry between your quarterback and your receivers and your offensive line and all the things and the offense can look at least up to close to par of what we've seen when they have played against the Green Bay Packers.
But this is a tough one because so much is at state.
Obviously, you think about even Mike Zimmer.
His job is on the line.
Right. His job is on the line.
So this was a huge one that I think everybody is kind of scratching their head.
But because he was forthright about it, they've kind of taken it like, we got to respect his decision.
It stinks.
It sucks.
But this is what it is.
You know, I said this.
It's weird how seasons go on the Super Bowl Packers team.
If you remember, that team was all beat up.
They didn't have much of a running game.
And then at the end of the year, they found a running game.
and you guys, you did.
But you didn't have one for about 13 weeks.
And it's funny, Greg, you know the Packers well.
And I said, in the first 10 weeks of this season, I said, boy, they're more physical.
They get after it.
They can go toe to toe.
And they've gotten, unfortunately, to me, very pretty in the last three or four weeks.
They couldn't put away Chicago.
They couldn't put away Cleveland.
Cleveland ran the ball.
It will.
And I said, are they morphing into what I've seen before, which is pretty?
They play great with the lead.
but I don't trust them in a physical game.
I mean, against the run, they're like 31st in the league.
And I look at them and I think, okay, they could face Leonard Fernette, Pollard and Zeke,
Sony, Michelle, and Cam Aker.
I mean, you start looking at this, they could face Philadelphia.
And I start looking at this NFC.
It's not the AFC where Buffalo doesn't run.
It's a bunch of teams that can control the clock.
I do feel like Green Bay doesn't feel quite like they did four or five weeks ago.
What do you see?
well i see the same thing and colin their their lack of physicality has been the achilles hill even when
even when i was still there that was always kind of a knock when we would lose to the 49ers
out there in the bay area but when i look at the green bay packers and what they've done
their calling card this year has been the steadiness obviously of aaron rogers in that
offense just steadily moving along nothing spectacular
But you know he can give you that in that up the high game, that MVP caliber game at any moment.
But then their defense has been the highlight of their their year this season.
In the last couple weeks, I actually will eliminate the bears because as a division rival, you're going to fight.
You're going to get the best punch every single week.
But last week was a little alarming to have the lead.
and then to allow Cleveland to stick with what their DNA is,
who they are and running the ball.
And you knew it and you could not stop it.
And that right there was kind of an eye opener of, okay,
is this defense filling themselves?
Are they listening to the press clippings?
Or will they just need to take a beat back and adjust some things
and refocus on what they've been all year,
which was stout and very physical up front?
You know, I said this with the Cowboys is happiness is based on expectations.
And I do think they have a lot of playmakers.
And this is the best version of the Cowboys since Dax Rookie Year when they went 13 and 3.
But there's some similarities to previous years.
They're 5 and 0 against the NFC East.
And they're 6 and 4 against everybody else.
And the NFC East is easily the worst division in football.
Like it's not, it's close.
And, you know, it's like the Pac-12 champ sometimes goes out and, you know,
pumps their chest and all of a sudden you meet the Big Ten or the Big 12 or the SEC
and it's not the same as we have college football games today.
And I look at the Cowboys and I think I like them, but I don't love them because I think
coaching and quarterback play is so valuable in the postseason.
Then they're going to face a Aaron and a McVeigh and a Stafford and a Brady and all those
weapons.
So I'm going in, here's how I look at Dallas.
They'll win a playoff game.
And that's about what I think they are.
is that when I say that to you, how's that land for you?
It lands about around home.
I actually like the Cowboys, but because of their history
and because of what they've shown us in years past,
and if we go back to before the playoff was extended to seven teams,
the Cowboys typically would get in,
and they would win that NFCE or rotate with one of those teams,
and then they would turn around and play one another again in the Wild Car game.
And so they get that easy win, I don't want to say easy win, but they get the win that everybody's kind of not shocked.
That's what you're alluding to, beating up on your division teams.
And you have to do that in order to put yourself in position to get into the playoffs.
However, when we talk about getting deep into the playoffs, you're going to be faced challenges that you present, which is great secondary play, great pass rushes, great quarterback play,
great coaching. That's going to happen. That's going to be elevated and magnified. The deeper you get into the playoffs and they haven't shown the ability to overcome or get out their own way and climb over that mountain, if you will, of winning those types of games against those types of teams. So again, this week, I expect them to win. I expect them to win. I feel like what the Cardinals are doing, they're going in reverse. But the
Dallas Cowboys, they've been known to have lapses as well.
So this is a telling week.
By the way, what are you doing? It's New Year's Eve.
I'll be going home. I'll be in sweatpants and eating cinnamon rolls and watching college football.
You, of course, wouldn't even a peanut brittle to you would be like a bad, it would ruin your year.
So I know you eat well and you take care of yourself.
What are you doing tonight in New Year's?
I'm celebrating. We're going hard, man. 15 years ago today, I got the phone.
call from my wife saying, hey, babe, you need to get back here in Green Bay. I was lying in a
hotel bedroom next to Abdul Hodge, getting ready to play the Chicago Bears, and our first
daughter was born on this day. So that is what we're doing. We're going to be celebrating my oldest
daughter's 15th birthday. I'm going to turn up, joy. Yes, I'm going to eat some fit
butters, you know,
get it right.
Keep it tight, though.
I asked him if he ate cupcakes
last Friday. When was the last time he had a
cupcake? And it hadn't been too long because it was
another one of your children's birthdays, right?
Exactly. Yep, my daughter, my youngest
daughter's birthday. All right. Well, have
cupcakes. So see, Colin, we do
like a little icing at times.
Just a little bit. Just a little bit. Just a little bit.
Happy New Year, buddy. Happy New Year
to you guys. Yeah. So it's,
He is, he won Mr. America.
It's some bodybuilding thing.
He was like, he won.
I think he was Mr. Olympia.
Mr. Olympia.
He like won.
Yeah, Greg is very serious about it.
But he's not in his training mode right now.
So it's okay for him to have a cupcake.
A cupcake.
Yeah.
Now, if he was training, he would throw everything off.
I remember when I covered Scotty Pippen in Portland.
And Scotty had the best body in terms of a professional athlete I'd seen.
And he had great advice.
I was interviewing.
And at the end of the interview, I said, you know,
you're in a remarkable shape.
I mean, you're a pro athlete,
but not all pro athletes are,
I mean, Scotty had like a 12-pack, you know,
and this was the end of it.
This wasn't like in his prime.
And he said, I said,
do you ever like have sweets?
And he goes, oh, I owe every meal I order sweets
and I have one bite.
He goes, don't cheat yourself.
And I always think about that.
He goes, I have a mud pie.
If I order a steak, I have a mud pie.
I have one big bite and that's it.
Yeah, that's the advice that a lot of trainers and nutritionists say.
Like, don't completely deprive yourself.
Because then you're going to gorge on whatever it is when you,
get your quote-unquote cheat day.
If you just have a little bit, you know, just a little bit.
Last night, I was with three other people.
We ordered banana cream pie just a couple of bites.
And then I did sit-ups when I got home, but just I didn't deprive myself of banana cream pie.
I had a, what was like a raspberry tart?
Oh.
And a scoop of guava sorbet.
But I didn't eat at all.
You know, the other thing, this is a New Year's.
I also had pasta and wine.
So did I.
You know, the other thing, sometimes you just, this is real simple advice.
but I could have been so lazy yesterday, but this, here's, okay, so patience is my New Year's resolution.
Correct.
Here's my other one.
Just do stuff.
And yesterday, I was driving down to Orange County.
I drove back up.
I got a call from a buddy.
I said, I'm going to go to dinner.
It was rainy and wet.
I said, just do stuff.
Oh, oh, like, just not, like, don't say no to things.
Yeah, like, just get off the county and do stuff.
And I ended up having a great night with a baseball executive, one of my, a chef, one of my media buddies,
Great conversations for two hours.
I just said, I'm not going to, I'm just going to do stuff.
That's a good resolution.
And it's, sometimes you're comfortable and you're sitting there and you got your Cheetos.
It's like, get off the couch and do stuff.
I agree.
I agree.
I don't have that problem.
No, you are.
I need to clean my closet and I need to be more disciplined.
All right, there you go.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.

And in recognition of mental health awareness,
in this month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and
conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes
when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize
that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done
enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you're
you here on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Sunday, the race for the playoffs continues on Fox
with a huge doubleheader.
It's a full slate of games
with playoff implications highlighted by the Cardinals taking on the Cowboys
in America's Game of the Week.
Check local listings for the matchups in your area
only on Fox in the Fox Sports app.
Joy, you and I
only have an hour
and 38 minutes or so
of shows left in 2021.
We will turn the page.
It's been a great year.
Our numbers are up.
Not that you care, but the following has been great.
We appreciate it.
It has been a fun year, and here we go in the NFL
where all but eight teams are out of the playoff race.
And a team like Cleveland, who is seven and eight,
has a absolutely viable opportunity to win their division.
And not a bad division, a good division.
If they can win, if they can beat Pittsburgh and Cincinnati,
if the Bengals lose to the Chiefs this weekend, possible, certainly.
If the Ravens lose to the Rams, Lamar's limping around,
probably. How about that?
You look at this season.
The one good thing about adding one more game to the NFL,
because I was not a big fan of it,
more players hurt,
more backup quarterbacks. In the end,
if it was up to me,
I'd have 14 games,
which is what the NFL had when I was a kid,
and I would expand the playoffs another round or two.
I'm for more playoff games,
fewer regular season games,
because I think we're a more distracted society.
That's why baseball and football in the 70s
were very even in this country.
But as we've had more,
technology and more distractions and more economic options, people are not willing Monday through
Friday to give their time to sports as much. You've got to create urgency for fans, and then they'll
watch. And so the NFL has, you know, every game matters, whereas baseball, it was a much
more laid-back, chill environment. You weren't staring at your phone. You didn't have computers.
You weren't as distracted. So in the 70s, the late 70s, it was a baseball football right down the
middle country, and football's just taken off.
they just ask your attention mostly on Sunday.
And so we're very, very lucky.
I look at some of these matchups this week.
Cowboys Cardinals is interesting because as we know,
Kansas City was lost at sea for about six weeks,
and they have found themselves.
Arizona now similarly is sort of lost,
and the wheels have come off.
Can they find it at Dallas,
a team that matches up with them very well?
The Cowboys play man to man.
that's not what Arizona faces and flourishes, and Cowboys get pressure on you.
And Kyler Marie in recent weeks dinged up, maybe a little apprehensive with all that pressure to get hit.
So the Cowboys are favored.
My feeling is they win this by a touchdown.
But Arizona is a fascinating team because everybody gets lost.
Like Green Bay now feels a little lost.
Kansas City was lost.
Buffalo, by the way, for about five weeks, Buffalo felt like the wheels were coming off.
Buffalo was right at it.
Kansas City has ridded it.
Rams, by the way, the way they're running the football in the last several weeks,
they get Camakers back with Sony Michelle.
It feels like they've kind of ridded the ship.
So can Arizona do it?
Can Arizona, because I think weeks one through 10,
we thought there was as good as anybody in the league.
And there now, they need a lug nut here and a screwdriver there.
This is a huge game Sunday, 4 Eastern on Fox, Joy with the news.
No, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, let's stick with that game.
The Cowboys are still in the hunt for the top seat in the NFC.
They're playing the Cardinals on Sunday, as you just mentioned,
and they're trying to break their losing streak and get back to the top of the NFC West.
And Mike McCarthy says he's preparing his team for this matchup like they're already in the playoffs.
This is a very, very balanced football game as far as, you know,
where the field could be tilted at.
I mean, you're talking about a team that has excellent balance,
offense, defense, and special team.
They have the veterans special team presence.
That's always a challenge.
So, I mean, this is going to be a playoff type game.
I mean, we both need this game.
And I think you'll see that Sunday afternoon.
Well, the Cardinals have lost three in a row.
Cowboys are favored by six, according to Fox Fed.
Now, you would not have dreamed that a month ago.
No, the Cardinals were the best watch in the league.
And the best team, arguably.
Yes, and they have not really looked the same since Kyler's been.
back and obviously DeAndre Hopkins is not out there.
We talked to Greg Kassell about some of the issues.
Everyone's trying to figure out what's wrong with the Cardinals, and a big part of it
is their third down offense.
And that's what gives me a lot of pause about this game when it comes to the Cardinals
winning, because for all this talk about all the stars that the Cowboys have, and, you know,
DAC and Seek is getting healthy.
Like, the Cowboys' defense is excellence.
the improvements that the Cowboys defense has gone through from last year to this year.
Like Dan Quinn has done a remarkable job.
Obviously they have a lot of playmakers, but it is staggering.
They've held their opponents with 20 or fewer points in four straight and six of their last seven games.
They had all these players last year outside of Micah Parsons.
So it's like they had playmakers last year, but they didn't have, they didn't sync it up with the coaching.
They didn't have the formula.
Yeah, I mean, Trayvon Diggs was good last year.
He's a remarkable player.
Everyone has stepped up.
Their first and takeaways and third down defense, which I think will be huge in this game.
There's tied for 10th and sacks, also seventh and points for game allowed.
So this is going to be a really tough game to try and get out of the nose dive that the Cardinals are on.
And the Packers can clinch the NFC's top seat this weekend with the win against the Vikings.
Kirk Cousins is out, so they will likely get that win and the Cowboys lose.
So as Mike McCarthy mentioned, this is a huge game for them.
They want the number one seed as well.
The Cowboys, if they win the remaining two games against the Cardinals and Eagles
and the Packers lose one of their final two games, they play the Vikings and the Lions.
Joey, you know what's fascinating?
There's an argument to be made that the two worst matchups for the Packers, if they're the number one seed,
are the Niners or the Eagles because of the run games.
That's who they're going to play first.
I'm telling you right now, if you start looking at matchups,
if you start looking at who Kansas City could potentially play,
they match up well.
Green Bay could not get Cleveland off the field unless Baker threw a pick.
Could not stop the run and knew exactly what they were going to do,
coming into the game and playing the game.
If Philadelphia or San Francisco are going to end up as that number seven seed
or a chance to move up a little bit,
there's a chance, Green Bay, because they'll get a buy, in that second game,
I'm telling you, the bottom of that NFC, those teams are kryptonite.
Watching that Brown's game, if you're trying to figure out a way to beat the Packers,
obviously you have to take care of the ball, try not throwing four interceptions.
But everyone was just screaming at the TV for the rounds to just run the ball.
Like, you're getting over eight yards per carry.
Why are you doing anything with running the ball?
single team that Green Bay
could face after the by
can run the ball.
Rams now have Cam Acres and
Sony. The Cowboys are getting healthier.
Leonard Fernette will come back.
Eagles, Niners. There is
kryptonite all over
the NFC for the Packers.
I don't feel that way with Kansas City.
I think what they do well,
nobody can stop them. I mean,
Buffalo... Their defense
is great again. Well, and also,
Buffalo can't run the ball. So they're not
to make Patrick Mahomes sit on the sideline for hours.
Exactly. The Chargers, by the way, can't stop the run.
So it's not like Kansas City couldn't have some effectiveness running the ball and passing.
They've actually struggled offensively.
Kansas City's route, I don't see a lot of kryptonite there for them.
I see everybody in the NFC could be a potential nightmare for the Packers at Lambo.
Well, speaking of the Chiefs, the Bengals and Chiefs game this weekend holds significant
playoff implications.
Kansas City's on an eight-game winning streak.
And Joe Burrow has been on fire.
recently, and Chiefs defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnolo, gave Burrow a lot of praise with a player comparison.
This may sound crazy, but I see a young Tom Brady.
I mean, this guy does everything.
He does not look like a second year quarterback that missed a lot of his first year.
Totally impressed with him.
Began the meeting on Tuesday.
You know, we were just finishing up on the last game, but began the meeting talking about Joe because I think he's that good.
Well, the Bengals have a 9 and 6 record.
They're first in the AFC North currently.
He has 69.9 completion percentage, 4,165 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
What if he beats Mahomes this weekend?
Start looking.
Google right now is stats.
I think you'll be surprised because he's had a couple high-profile ugly losses to Cleveland
the Chargers.
If he beats Kansas City this weekend, he and Aaron Rogers look like the MVP's.
I was shocked at how good his numbers.
I went to my phone this morning.
I'm like, this kid is putting up huge number.
He's almost a, you're talking about 70% completion percentage,
leads the NFL in big plays over the top.
And as Steve just mentioned, he was injured for a considerable amount of the year last year with a major injury.
So he's doing this coming off of a major injury.
And as Albert Rear mentioned earlier,
we're talking about somebody who literally is elevating the team.
It's not just that he's having a great statistical season.
The culture.
It's the Bengals.
like where they are a serious contending team,
and he is the reason why.
Well, this is also problematic for the Steelers
because they don't have a succession plan.
You got Joe Burrell twice next year.
You got Lamar twice next year.
And that Cleveland roster is fantastic.
And for the record,
Baker's had some success with the Steelers.
You don't have a quarterback.
That's why they have to go big.
I agree.
They're going to need to swing.
It cannot be stagnant.
So the Lakers have reportedly agreed to trade Rajan Rondo to the Cavaliers.
Rondo played in 18 games in his return to the Lakers this season.
He averaged 3.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 16 minutes per game.
L.A. will get Denzel Valentine in return, but they're expected to waive his partially guaranteed deal to open up a roster spot.
He's bouncing around the league a lot.
It's a nice team.
Well, this is actually a good deal for both these teams.
Obviously, the Lakers want to bring in, you know, another player, hopefully a young player.
And the Cavs are sitting at 5th in the Eastern Conference right.
now and they just lost Ricky Rubio to a torn ACL that he'll be out for the rest of the season.
So they need a point guard. And Rondo's a veteran. Obviously, been on a lot of teams at this point,
but still is a veteran. And so this is a good move for both these teams. Good stuff. Joy with the
news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Lie News.

not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day,

I mean, at this point,
this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack,
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so...
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.

Joy's New Year's resolution, and now that she has disclosed it to America, is more discipline.
Mine is more patience and just do stuff.
But I thought when we look around college football and the NFL,
what I believe should be New Year's resolutions for a lot of the stars of college football and pro football.
You know, we both love both.
It's good for us.
USC has a new coach.
Miami's got a new coach.
We've never,
Joy and I've never been happier together.
I cannot wait.
I'm the same thing.
I'm following recruiting all day on my phone.
And my nephew's at LSU now.
Boom.
We're going to have a great college football season.
So here we go, New Year's resolutions.
All right.
What should Aaron Rogers resolution be for 2022?
Stop talking.
Stay with the Packers,
regardless of how the season ends.
Okay, can we stop this?
He leads the NFL the last two years in completion percentage,
touchdown passes, touchdown interception ratio, and passer rating.
Let's stop all the victimhood.
You've got it really good.
Yes, there's not much of a nightlife, but let's be honest.
You head to Malibu the minute the season's over,
and do you really want nightlife and distractions while you play?
this is a great place for you.
Just stay in Green Bay, even if you're won and done in the playoffs.
What should Russell Wilson's resolution be?
Learn French once he moves to New Orleans.
It is one of the four teams that he mentioned.
CR is an entertainer.
Yes.
They don't have a first round pick, and they need multiple first round picks.
They don't have the offensive firepower.
They don't have a number one receiver.
do not believe D.K. Matt Kvissette. Nothing resembling a top back. O-line, their best old lineman's
Duane Brown. He ranks as the 27th best last tackle from Pro Football Focus. They're okay at
tight end, not dynamic. Look around his division. He's going up against Cooper Cups and Sean McVeys
and great old lines and great running games and George Kittle and DeAndre Hopkins and James
Connor. And you're outmanned, a 70-year-old defensive coach, no first-round picks. And the Saints
defense is top four, and if you have four quarterbacks, you don't have one. That's the move.
Get your Kingmaker and Sean Payton.
Pittsburgh Steelers, resolution for 2022. I believe they have to go out aggressively and get a
current NFL star quarterback. First of all, your division now, Lamar's a star, Burroughs a star,
and Baker is clearly competent, certainly against the Steelers. You have an excellent young base.
They need guidance. Naji Harris.
is a great young player. Deontay Johnson, Chase Claypool, a rookie tight end who's great.
Minka Fitzpatrick, T.J. Watt. There's young, great talent here. You can spend some money on a
quarterback. You don't need to save money at quarterback. You have a young group. You don't want to get
too young. You want to have some experience. I would go heavy after Aaron, heavy after Russell.
I would consider strongly to Sean Watson. This team is kind of young and cheap in a lot of key
spots. Even the O-Lines got two rookies.
Go spend some money and get a big boy quarterback.
The Lakers and LeBron,
resolution for 2022. This will sound
weird, joy, but I would consider moving
off Anthony Davis.
Okay, LeBron now leads
the NBA in minutes and
scoring. This is ridiculous.
Two years ago, LeBron
wanted to pass the minutes' baton
to Anthony Davis. He came in out of shape.
And now this year he's hurt.
And he's increasingly hurt more than he's
ever been. All this talk about
Russell Westbrook, Russell Westbrook hasn't been disappointing with the Lakers.
He's given you everything he's always given you.
You have 13 years of data.
Hustles, production, 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7.5 assists.
That's exactly what Russell Westbrook's always done.
And he plays every night and he plays hard every night.
Anthony Davis has missed 55 of 200 games with the Lakers.
And by the way, he's still out for a couple of weeks.
He doesn't want to play his position.
He doesn't put the time in the wait room.
He doesn't have leadership DNA.
I think the Lakers have to strongly consider redoing all of it
if they want to get into a championship window
and all of it starts with Anthony Davis
because we're not moving LeBron
and stop blaming Westbrook for your problems.
He's exactly what he's always been.
He's always been this way.
The Cowboys Resolution for next year.
Don't overreact if you win a playoff game and that's it.
It's baby steps.
Last year, Mike McCarthy wins six.
This year they win the division and a playoff game.
The NFC at the top is,
Tom Brady and Sean McVey and Matt Stafford and Aaron Rogers.
You have an incredibly young roster, many of your best players.
C.D. Lamb is a kid. Tony Pollard is a kid.
Micah Parsons, Trayvon Diggs, your top defensive interior lineman from UCLA.
Don't get impatient. This is not Tampa or Tom is old.
You know, you've got veterans on the defensive side that have been paid.
There's pressure. Bruce Ariens could retire at any moment.
this is just step two.
Jerry Jones historically is patient with his coaches.
He's not running off anybody.
This year was the year to solve the defensive side of the ball.
You have, and oh, by the way, the offensive line,
you've got to find a left tackle because Tyron Smith continues to have health issues,
but it does rank number one.
So this is a good team.
I don't think it's a Super Bowl winning team.
Don't blow anything up if you don't win three.
and four playoff games. The future,
Dak and Pollard and C.D. Lamb and
Micah Parsons and Young Tide Ends and Trayvon Diggs is very bright.
So they should have your resolution. Be patient.
What about the Browns?
I actually think it is time to move off Baker and he does have some trade value.
I think he's got death threats this week. It's too toxic for him.
It's too turbulent. He's only a $19 million player.
There are eight teams in this league that are desperate for a quarterback.
Baker, does he deserve a restart or reboot?
I think he does.
I think it's too toxic.
The fans have now turned on him.
The media is incredibly harsh.
Harsher than I am on him.
The Cleveland media now is just, he's a pinata.
I also think privately, Stefansky, they would like to bring down the temperature in the room.
So I think it's a great time for a clean break.
I think Baker could work in a lot of different places, a little less toxic, hopefully
humbled a little bit. This organization doesn't trust him. They put reins on him. The quarterback
coach Van Pelt acknowledged as much yesterday saying, yeah, we've kind of put handcuffs on him. Why?
They don't trust him. I think it's time for a reboot for Cleveland and Baker. It's not a criticism.
Drew Breeze had a reboot. Brady wanted one late in his career. There's nothing wrong starting over.
How about Lincoln Riley, his resolution for 2022 in his first year at USC?
Just be interesting. This team
hasn't won. They've won one pack 12 titles since Pete Carroll left, but they've been boring.
They're inconsistent, there's chaos, but more than anything, they're just not fun.
They were fun briefly with Sam Darnold. They beat Texas and Penn State and the Rose Bowl.
Here's a coach that averaged 43 points a game. It's not about winning a national title.
They do not have the offensive line personnel right now to compete against an Ohio state, a Notre Dame, or any top SEC team or in Oklahoma.
They don't. Oklahoma right now has better players. They do not have the deal.
defensive line depth or personnel to play with the big boys.
They're not a top six team right now.
Use the transfer portal.
You've got some nice offensive pieces.
Jackson Darts, an excellent young quarterback.
Nice receivers, tight ends and backs.
Get fun again.
Be fun.
Score 45 points.
You don't need to win a national title.
You don't need to win a Rose Bowl.
Get interesting.
In a market now, when Pete was here, no NFL teams,
and the clippers were unwatchable, and the Dodgers were just good.
The market is distracted.
You need to get fun and interesting.
If you go 9 and 3, but you're scoring 44, that is a win in year one.
You are not built to win big next year.
How about Brian Kelly at LSU?
I'll play a little bit of sound.
I want him to stop doing this.
So excited to be in the great state of Louisiana.
All right, stop doing that.
Next to Nick Saban, believe it or not, Brian Kelly has become the FBS head coach
since 2004. Only Nick Saban has more wins. You're a great coach. It's a great program.
Now, since winning the title, you're 11 and 11. So in the SEC, you're winning games. You're not
terrible, but you've got to get the quarterback situation more productive. You've got to keep the
recruiting ball rolling. But there's no reason to not be totally authentic, probably here, because
your record is next to Sabin is the best in college football. So we all know you're a great coach.
We all know you do a terrible Southern accent. If you're going to do that,
do it in a home, not on television,
not where we can use our iPhone and watch it.
But those are my New Year's resolutions.
I'm going to be at a tiger game or two this year.
You are?
Well, yeah, my nephew Mason committed to LSU.
The top tight ends in the country.
Can you fly direct?
You probably can.
L.A. has directs everywhere.
Can you do L.A. to New Orleans direct?
Yeah.
Oh, you can?
Yeah.
Okay, then there you go, because Baton Rouge is a 90-minute drive up to North.
The last time I went to New Orleans, I connect.
in Houston, I believe.
But I was like trying to get there
Friday night a certain time. So last time
it's a fascinating place. Smells like
bourbon on game day. The whole town does.
So the last time I was at LSU, I went to a football game.
Nick Saban was coached in LSU.
Mike Riley coached Oregon State
and it was really competitive. A lightning bolt
hit the stadium. We had a massive flood, a delay
and a naked guy ran onto the field and did a
slip and slide. It was so, I'd never
been in southern humidity like that.
Oh yeah. That rain
humidity is like it's suffocating.
It's incredible. I remember I got a cold towel.
They had an ice bucket and I rang the towel out and in the second half.
I was soaking wet and I just put it around my neck in the second half.
My shirt was soaked.
I was like, you could not believe if you've never been, if you ever been to.
It's a swamp.
It is so.
It's next level.
But I will tell you this.
They, there are, there is no place in America that is more unique than New Orleans.
in Baton Rouge. I went for a jog
because I was at that point running half marathons. I was jogging
all the time. And I never forget going for a jog in a
Baton Rouge neighborhood.
And they've got those trees, those kind of spooky trees.
And I got... The willows. Yeah. And I got lost on the run.
And it was seven in the morning and I was terrified.
And there were vans everywhere and there was those spooky
trees and it was soupy and you could hear the bugs.
and I'm in a neighborhood I'd never been in and I'm like, man, this place, there's a reason.
They make a lot of movies in New Orleans.
I absolutely love New Orleans.
It's maybe my favorite city in the country.
It's the most unique city in America.
Definitely is all culture.
Everyone there is authentic and...
Voodoo.
Great food.
A lot of spirits.
Voodoo is celebrated.
They wrap their arms.
Because it's a part of the culture.
It's not something to be afraid of.
It's a part of the culture of the city.
