And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and
friends on the ice.

Sometimes a suspect is found guilty before a verdict is ever read in court.
On the Wicked Words podcast, I talk with the writers who dig deep into the cases that changed history,
including Marsha Clark, who went from prosecuting one of the most famous murder cases to writing crime fiction.
It doesn't matter that you didn't take part in the murder.
If you were at the scene at all, you're guilty of murder.
Every week, the real story is revealed.
Join us every Monday for new episodes of Wicked Words.

Here we go.
It's a Monday.
Wild weekend, college and pro football.
And a lot of fun.
Matt Hasselbeck, five minutes out, wherever you may be.
And however you may be listening, thanks for making that as part of your day.
A lot of energy, Jay Matt.
You know, sat home yesterday, hydrated after kind of a wild weekend.
Saw the kids.
Probably had one too many cigars.
A little wine.
Slay steak on Saturday. It was amazing.
Can I tell the audience you called me, you were fired up.
You had so many good takes yesterday.
I was a coward. What a saved this?
I was a tape machine yesterday.
You were cooking.
I mean, you were cooking like a turkey on Thanksgiving just going crazy.
You and your family had a great Thanksgiving.
Yes, it would be.
Very thankful to be out here in the warm weather.
Arctic blast hitting the Midwest this week.
You see the temperatures coming?
Oh, yeah.
There'll be some cold football out there.
this weekend. Well, Buffalo's built for it.
All right. Here we go, Colin Wright.
Colin wrong in a Monday. Plenty of both. Fire away.
Where Colin was right?
Listen, I said a week ago when I got pushed back.
Tear it down to the studs.
Niners, it's official. Rebuilds
the only way. Lost 35 to 10.
Wasn't competitive. Christian McCaffrey's hurt.
Fred Warner's hurt. They're old. They're tired.
They're expensive and they're brittle.
I mean, Kyle Shanahan, first time he's lost back-to-back games by 25 plus points.
Christian McCaffrey, unfortunately, done for the season.
This isn't subtle or nuanced.
They don't have enough good players.
I mean, go watch Detroit, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Baltimore,
Kansas City play.
They don't have enough guys, especially in their prime.
Where Colin was wrong.
I have defended Ryan Day for a long time, but he got worked this weekend.
Even with Chip Kelly, I thought he was trying to prove a point more than he was trying to win a game.
Why were they running the football?
They're a beautiful, vertical passing team.
Nick Saban moved off his power running games into a passing team because Nick was about winning games.
And I like Ryan Day, but he'd never been a head coach before Ohio State.
And there are steps you get when you're Urban Meyer and go bowling green to Utah to Florida, Ohio State.
And in big games, he has not been exceptional.
And I thought this was a low point.
I don't think I would want him fired.
but this was ugly, and I've been defending him from day one.
You can't have that at home against the team that can't pass.
Michigan can't pass.
Where Colin was right.
Sammy Darnold, forever.
I said he's a first round talent.
Just get him to the right coach.
Once again, a great final drive to win a game.
He's had several of those.
Fourth in the NFL and touchdown passes.
The reckless stuff, oh, he'll have a throw every game.
I wince a little bit.
But he has become a really good fourth quarter quarterback.
Ten of his 12 starts, a hundred plus passer rating.
He's getting it to the right players at the right time.
And I trust him.
That's the one thing I'll say about good quarterback play.
He gets the ball with a minute and a half left.
I trust him.
He's going to drive that team down to a field goal minimum.
And he did it again this week, Sam Darnel.
Where Colin was wrong.
I didn't think Russell Wilson and Tomlin and the Steelers was going to fit.
But he's 5 and 1 and 6 starts.
Yesterday, eight different Steelers caught a pass of 20 plus yards.
He is throwing the ball down the field.
There's no dink and dunk here.
Russell is he is cooking it downfield, and I'm happy for him.
He's a grateful guy.
He's a hardworking guy.
He's a very focused guy.
And this is a much better fit than I could have guessed.
You know, he kind of feels like this has always been an offense that's a little dramatic and loose.
he's kind of
got it
playing more in the fair way
and still hitting on big plays
where Colin was right
you know Matt Eber Fluse
coming into this season was on the hot seat
probably they should have been best served
to start over
Jim Harbaal was the choice
but he didn't get along with the president
and I feel bad for Caleb Williams
who I think is a remarkable player
he's flawed he's got a lot to learn
but that coaching gaff
I mean when first year quarterbacks
sometimes a coach
Coach has to throw him a life preserver on timeouts and time.
And, you know, they're going to lack some self-awareness
just because they're rookie quarterbacks in a much faster game.
On the road, short week against the Great Lions.
There's just no excuse for that.
And then his, they couldn't even fire him right.
They'd let him have a press conference and fired him about an hour later.
So this was pretty predictable.
Where Colin was wrong.
Well, my next guest loves Nick Sariani.
I guess I'm on board.
They've won eight in a row.
They beat Lamar Jackson.
NFC teams do not beat Lamar Jackson.
Now, Justin Tucker helped him out.
But I will say this.
They may be the worst first quarter team.
That's a good team in the league.
But their second quarter was great.
And their fourth quarters, they give the ball to the right people.
And that's what I like about Philadelphia's offense.
It's what Ohio State didn't do Saturday.
They got their ball and they get their ball to the right guys.
And Siriani, maybe he's learning on the job.
I've had misgivings.
But it works.
You do not win eight games in a row.
They've beaten some good teams.
Home and away.
They've beaten good teams.
You don't win eight in a row.
Go look at Chicago.
They got good players too, unless the coach knows what he's doing.
Where Colin was right.
I don't buy an Aaron Rogers.
I don't think he's the top 15 to 18 quarterback in the league.
Turns 41 today.
Ugly pick six.
He missed the wide open Garrett Wilson in the end zone on a pretty easy throw,
pretty pedestrian NFL quarterback throw.
And they would have gone up 28 to 7 game set match.
Missed it.
Pick six followed.
So at this point, you know, he's not.
never been the biggest grinder in the off season. And so I think he's aged really, really quickly,
but I didn't think the Jets were a playoff team. I don't think Aaron's the kind of guy. He's not a
foxhole guy. He's just a really talented guy. But I would move off him. I don't think it works.
I don't think he has much of a market. We've got all these talented young quarterbacks.
Go get one somewhere or go get Sam Darnold. Where Colin was right?
I said going into the weekend, do not lose any sleep on the college football playoff rankings.
chaos will ensue, and it did.
Georgia went to eight
overtimes against Georgia Tech. Miami
lost to Syracuse. Georgia,
Ohio State lost to Michigan.
And I said Thursday, the last
couple of weekends, watch
out for rivalry week.
It's going to be a zoo.
There's a scenario where
the four conference champions
weren't in their conference last season.
And I will say this, the NIL
and the transfer portal
have created more parity
because a lot of these second-tier programs are cherry-picking the Michigan's, Notre Dame, Ohio, States, Alabama's, Georgia,
for guys that may be the third receiver that can be a number one receiver at, say, like, a Louisville or, you know, a Texas Tech.
So there is no depth, even among the Alabama's and the Georgia's.
I mean, I've watched Georgia play five times.
You can run on Georgia.
They don't throw the ball down the field.
so it is a wacky college football season.
I'll still say Texas ends up in the nanny.
I still think it's going to be Tennessee or Ohio State.
So I'm not bailing on Ohio State.
Where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong on a Monday.
And with that, Matt Hasselbeck, we love having them on.
Three-time Pro Bowler.
You know, it's funny.
I watched the Bills play last night in that snow,
and I said it looked like eight-year-olds on the first snow day.
They were having...
Yeah.
They loved playing in that.
And not that San Francisco melted like a Miami team, but it's weird.
Watching them play in that weather, it's almost like if they could choose the weather for the playoffs, that would be it.
When you were in Seattle, you probably liked the rain and watch the guys come in and fumble, right?
Colin, my rookie year, I went to the Green Bay Packers.
Most of our team, like our quarterback was from Mississippi.
Everyone thought, like, oh, he's a cold weather quarterback, Brett Farms.
He's from Mississippi.
You know, half the guys in my rookie class, they saw snow for the first time when they got to Wisconsin.
And yet they thought of us as like this cold weather team.
I used to tell people all the time, like we'd wear no sleeves.
We'd go out.
At halftime, we would come in the locker room in the quarterback meeting room.
Sorry, where we would meet was in the sauna.
It was the quarterbacks coach, Andy Reid, it was Doug Peterson's the backup.
Brett Farb is the starter.
Rick Myers there.
I'm there.
And literally, we're in there in the sauna having our like half time adjustment meeting.
We were freezing.
Then we go out in the second half and like, you know, we just play this tough guy thing.
Like, yeah, we're not cold.
You know, we're not wearing sleeves.
And I'm sure the opposing team, like the 49ers, they're like, man, these guys are crazy.
They love this stuff.
It's like they would rather be in the snow right now.
And that's what it looked like with Buffalo.
I think the fans were into it.
It's super cool to play and super fun.
It's also fun to watch.
You know, I said this about Russell Wilson.
I thought the fit was weird.
But I do think that we don't think about this, even for guys like you who are college
All-Americans, 18 years Pro Bowls.
I get you. Fit is really essential.
You're talking about 22-year-old kids.
So even though Russell's older, Denver was a bad fit
because here's Sean Payton, who has his view of offense.
And then Russell Wilson comes in with his view, clash.
Tomlin is a defensive guy.
And I almost feel like Russell feels liberated,
like I can kind of do what I do.
And Mike off a Kenny Pickett is sort of a pretty.
but I watch it and I'm like it kind of works Tomlin Ross doesn't it well it's definitely working
I don't see it that way necessarily I think there's this fine line between humility and confidence
and I think you need both and I don't think Russell was very humble in Denver but I think he's been
more humble this time and he definitely has the confidence listen that game started out he throws a pick
six on like the third pass or the third play of the game and you know he's he doesn't flinch he has
the confidence. He's like, you know what, I've been there, done it, had highs, had lows, I'm good.
But if you watch that game, if you really study how he got to 400 yards, it wasn't really what
we're going to see in the highlights, all these deep balls. It really wasn't. The first half,
he had two completions to a wide receiver that were past the line of scrimmage. That was it.
He won this game by using the running backs in the passing game, using the tight ends in the
passing game. And the first half, he had seven completions to running backs, four to tight ends.
And like I said, two that went past the line of scrimmage.
So is he a great deep ball thrower?
Yes, he really is.
He's got great trajectory on his throw.
But that's not how he won this game.
That's not how he got to 400 yards.
I believe he played the kind of like that division's type of football.
You heard Mike Tomlin talk about it.
He said he's acclimated well to this division and this kind of football.
And I think part of that is being humble.
And yet, like I said, having like this ultra confidence where you have confidence in yourself
and your team has confidence in you as well.
You know, I, the bear situation's interesting.
So I would have been much harder on Caleb.
Interesting.
Well, that's a really nice way to put it, Colin.
Trying to be kind on a Monday.
I do think with rookie quarterback,
sometimes a coach or a veteran backup or something,
has to throw them a life preserver.
A lot of these teams get a rookie quarterback.
They'll go get a veteran guy, a Josh McCown,
get him in here.
And I thought Matt Eberfluces, inability,
you can see Caleb's looking around,
and it's like, you gotta call timeout.
You gotta help the kid.
Now maybe in three years,
that's on Caleb.
Were you bothered by Caleb
or the lack of support he got from the head coach?
All of it.
You know, listen, I got on here,
you know, when he gave up nine sacks
and everyone was trying to blame the offensive line.
And I'm like, listen, there's shared blame.
And if I'm coaching the quarterback,
I'm blaming the quarterback for at least six of those sacks,
at least, but yet they blame somebody else.
Then it was something else, and they blamed the offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron.
They fired him.
Now this situation, they're blaming the head coach who could have called time out.
He shouldn't have needed to call time out.
You had 36 seconds.
You need to save that time out.
Two minute is different in the second quarter than it is in the fourth quarter.
Two minute is different when you're down three versus if you're down four or more.
Like at some level, there's got to be some shared responsibility by the quarterback.
So if you're coaching the quarterback, like with a closed door, I think you need to be really critical.
Like yesterday it was like almost hilarious to me how like every single comment that someone said about the bears,
everyone would say like, oh, you can't put that on the quarterback.
Like why?
Like I don't understand why.
Like the only way you're going to improve as a quarterback is if you're coach tough, if you're coached hard, if you tell the truth on Monday.
And like that's the part that I'm not sure is getting done right there.
I thought Matt Eberfluse probably needed to be fired because of all the stuff, you know,
if you look at the totality of it.
But really, I thought what he did at the podium is he tried to not throw his quarterback under the bus.
But I don't know who else you can really blame for what happened in that situation if you're coaching the quarterback.
Yeah.
So, you know, I watched Baltimore and some, you know, I said this for years with Tiger Woods.
There's a lot of great golfers.
There was one Tiger Woods and guys shot a lot of good rounds and lost to the meteor known as Tiger Woods.
and I watched the Ravens and I'm like, well, they lost a Kansas City by a foot.
You know, Philadelphia may be the best roster in the league.
You start looking around and you're like, okay, the Raiders game is what it is.
But I watched them handle the Chargers.
I'm like, I think it's a good team.
I just think the greatest kicker ever has hit a wall and they keep losing these close games.
I think if they hit field goals, they win.
And just sometimes it happens.
Like, it just, I'm not selling my Lamar Baltimore stock.
but a lot of people are.
How do you view them?
Yeah, they shouldn't.
Listen, I believe in Lamar Jackson, 100%.
He's incredibly fun to watch.
I believe in a weird way he's underrated.
People think of him as the runner,
but he's a great passer as well.
I think he's a great leader.
They've played a little sloppy this year.
Obviously, the special teams,
which was always a strength for this team,
you know, they're in a bit of a rut right now.
And just, listen, having held for field goal kickers
for a lot of my football playing career,
you know, going back all the way down to, you know, from high school to holding for Adam Venetieri
near the end of my career.
Like, you know, understanding that it's an operation.
Like it's long snapper, it's holder, it's kicker.
And just like a golfer, sometimes you're, you know, you have a stretch where you're not in the
fairway much.
But I trust Justin Tucker.
I kind of trust that team.
And I do think that this team will be a team that's battle tested once the playoffs come around.
Matt Hasselbeck joining us.
It's so funny with the.
Eagles. They're an awful first
quarter team, but yesterday they
were a great dominant second quarter team.
And then they were bad in the third. Then they were
unstoppable in the fourth.
But when I watch them,
every unit has like
an unbelievable player.
They're so stacked.
And it's like, but you've
been telling me this for a month. I've been
pushing back. There is
something with Siriani.
Aren't you a little
concerned that eventually
in the playoffs. You're not concerned
that can't score in the first point. I like
Nick Siriani. I think he's a really good coach.
I think the Eagles are a really good team.
I feel like I like the Eagles
more than Eagles fans like the Eagles, which is in a
weird way. Like I believe in them more.
No, listen, I thought like yesterday's game,
they coached around their injury situation
injury situation. They didn't have Devonzi Smith.
And so they said, okay, you know what? We are
going to be, you know, a lot of people talk about
RPO. The Eagles in that game,
they were an RRO offense, a run
or a run option. It was
either Jalen or it was Sequin.
And then once they get into the red zone, then they operate their,
they're more their like RPL game where it's either Jalen,
Sequin or Dallas Goddard, Jalen Sequin or A.J. Brown.
They coached around the situation that they had,
understanding who the quarterback was on the other side.
I think Jalen hurts through for like 118 yards.
He had seven completions that ended up in a first down.
It wasn't that kind of a game, but it's winning football.
Vic Fangio does a great job.
I've told you, Kellan Moore is learning his guys.
And really, it's a one-two punch and the defense is off balance.
I thought they mixed up tempo.
I just, I like Nick Siriani.
I think he's got his team focused each and every week.
And we pay attention to some of the antics like on game day.
But I think if you look at that team like Monday to Saturday, they're locked in.
They don't have distractions.
So do you think, it's easy for me to say this, do you think in the locker room?
that those veteran Niners players know,
this ain't working.
It's time for a reboot.
I mean, they're highly compensated.
But do you think in the room,
they're questioning, we got to start over
because I watch Philly, I watch Detroit,
I watch Buffalo, I watch Baltimore.
San Francisco's not close.
They're not one big swing away.
They're old, expensive, brittle, hurt a lot.
Do you think they know that?
Yeah, I don't think,
I hear what you're saying.
I think they feel that this year.
Like, I think the real talk or the real thoughts or something like, man, this just isn't our year.
Like, we're banged up.
And listen, you mentioned all the time.
I played 18 years in the NFL.
Not every year was the same.
There were some years where I just wasn't banged up.
I felt great.
My teammates felt great.
Just that's how it was.
Then there were other years where we felt snake bit.
Everybody in the building had an injury.
Every player shoot.
We had coaches basically getting surgery during the season.
And it was just like, what's going on with this team right now?
We feel cursed or something.
I think that's what they feel.
I feel like the 49ers are probably like, man, we can't catch a break this year.
This is not our year.
But I don't think they feel like, oh, we got to blow it up, start over, get younger,
because there's no king in that division.
The NFC West is like, it's like right there.
They can taste it.
They know they're close.
And they feel like if healthy, it would be their division.
But I think it's a real thing where you feel snake bit a little bit.
Okay, so speaking of that division, because I think all of the teams have something.
Seattle, again, just keeps winning.
The Rams now, Stafford's on a bit of a heater now.
Stafford's playing well.
That game, by the way, flew by it.
It was like one of those baseball games now when you have the starter pitcher.
It goes like two hours and 20 minutes.
The Rams game was like over like that.
And you're like, okay, do you buy the Rams?
Because this is a quarterback head coach league, especially in the playoffs.
and I think their defense is actually in the front seven pretty tasty.
What do you make of the Rams?
Do you buy them at all?
Do they worry you?
Do you think they could, you know, last year they shocked us.
They're better than last year, I think.
What do you make of them?
Yeah, well, listen, it's a fun division.
So a really good team is going to win that division with a bad record,
which is like I wouldn't say that about the NFC South.
I think a bad team with a bad record is going to win that division.
but there's going to be a good team coming out of this NFC West.
The Seahawks are hot right now.
That was a good win, but it was also a win against a, you know, a three-win Jets team.
But the Seahawks in Arizona go head-to-head this week.
This division is going to kind of eat itself.
And I think that if they can stay healthy, Matthew Stafford is playing really good football.
Now that second half was great football.
That first half, you know, wasn't quite as good.
So, you know, this is a team and this is a division that I truly think it could be anybody's
division. And you can't really say that about much of the league. You know, some of the teams that
are winning their division, they're playing against people that have already packed it in.
They're putting guys on the IR. They're saying, hey, for who, for what? We'll see you next year.
That's not at all how this division is. Everybody feels like they're in it. And so for that reason,
I think this is going to be one of the more competitive and more fun divisions to watch as we finish
out the year. Yeah, he's got a 121 passer rating, eight touchdowns, no picks in the last three games.
And so, yeah. But it was interesting, Colin.
I think they didn't score a touchdown in the first half,
which is something that a Sean McVeague team hasn't done.
They've been a, who knows.
They've actually been a Super Bowl against the Patriot.
They've been a weirdly bad first half offense.
And I don't know what the answer is because McVeigh is brilliant.
But they've been, I couldn't tell you the last great first half they had.
They adjust.
They play well late.
But it's, you know, it's like Philadelphia.
I can't explain Philadelphia in the Rams first quarters.
They have the component.
Well, I think one thing that does happen is you don't really know what somebody else's
game plan is going to be against you until you get into the game. Like if you're unique,
like I think Matthew Stafford's unique. I think Jalen Hertz and that Sequin offense now is unique.
So you get into the game and you're like, oh, okay, now I see what their game plan was.
They're going to play us nickel, meaning five DBs when we're in big people personnel. Got it.
Or say, oh, okay, I know what they're going to do now. They're going to play a two shell and allow no big
plays. Got it. But you don't necessarily know that until you get into the game.
Matt Hasselbeck on a Monday.
Always love having you, man.
Make us smarter.
I appreciate it.
Appreciate it.
You bet.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers,
and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news,
huge news?
We created our own podcast called,
Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

Denver Broncos, Bo Nicks, Sean Payton tonight.
What is the grimace?
How about they win by a couple of touchdowns, a couple of tuddies?
So, first of all, do you have any money on this game at all?
I don't have a scent on it.
I have no read on this whatsoever.
I do.
I have a read.
Here's what I'm reading.
Denver, another W.
Bo Nix, three touchdown passes.
Read it here in the Denver Post.
Here we go.
So I'm going against Bo Knicks and fantasy.
You know, my brother is too.
So we're rooting for Boonex to do nothing tonight.
So I'm a Brown's fan.
I know you don't care about that.
But there is a world where Bo Nix comes back down to Earth just a little under the spotlight of Monday night football.
Against a Brown's defense that showed up against Russ.
Remember it was a blizzard.
It's much easier with you can't see.
I went to that Cosm dome to watch that game.
Honestly, I think I said this on the air.
I'm like, so I was sitting watching the game, and this Cosm's amazing,
and it makes you feel like you're with the game.
And I'm kind of standing where a safety would be.
And I'm like, how do you see the running back?
There was a blizzard.
You couldn't see anything.
Tonight it'll be clear vision for one Bo Nix.
So you're on Bo Nix again.
Unbelievable.
Six or minus five and a half, something like that?
I like Denver.
Comfortably.
Okay.
Jemak with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
I'll be texting you at about 745 tonight.
Yeah, okay.
Can't wait for that one.
Let's start with Thanksgiving Day and the Lions.
So they survived in a rough game against the Bears.
But the big story over the weekend was Jamir Gibbs,
the talented young running back.
He inadvertently leaked some of the play's past protection calls
when he posted a video of a teammate on Instagram.
You can see it here on FS1.
I don't know why he would.
would post us in front of the whiteboard with all that information.
And it had code words for calls at the line of scrimmage.
Well, Dan Campbell was talking to the media.
The media is grilling Campbell about this.
And here's what Dan Campbell said about it.
I don't really give a crap.
I mean, if we're going to lose because of code words, then we're not good enough anyway.
So I think we'll just post the whole freaking playbook out there and every code word we've got.
And it doesn't matter.
It's not going to hurt us.
It won't affect us.
And it's all good.
By the way, guys, can you keep your phones in your locker?
You ever go to the gym?
I see this at the gym, I can't believe it.
And guys are checking their phones.
It's like, guys, you can't give an hour of your day to sitting on your phone.
Like, don't take phones into restaurants and the gym and the meetings.
I can't believe that an NFL team allows players to have their phones in meetings.
He had a great look for Gibbs.
And then he had the fubble inside the five-yard line.
That was a killer.
I do like Campbell's reaction.
Like, I don't give a crap.
This is the dance.
This is leadership right here.
Us against the world.
Our guy screwed up.
Who cares?
I'm with him.
The media,
they want Jamir gives his head for this.
How could this is outweigh?
Well, it's not real smart.
Come on.
It's not,
it's not genius level stuff.
But, you know,
they got a big game this week against a Packers.
Oh, Thursday night game.
The line is shrinking.
Let me guess.
Let me guess.
Let me guess.
So where's the game?
It was Detroit minus six.
Detroit at home against the Packers.
No, I'd take Green Bay,
minus six.
It's not six anymore.
What is it?
It's minus three and a half.
Okay, yeah.
Green Bay is to play.
So Detroit's got some major injuries on defense.
Oh, no, they went and got Jamal Adams.
I didn't even see them.
Detroit went and got Jamal Adams.
They got linebacker issues.
They're all banged up.
Two of their top three linebackers are out now.
Not good at all for Detroit.
I like Green Bay in that game.
I think I do too.
I like being backers are coming on.
And then it opens the door.
Could Philly host the NFC championship?
Detroit having to go outdoors in January to the link.
Not great Gerard.
I said this.
my podcast last night.
I would take this morning Philadelphia over
Detroit, and I didn't feel that way three weeks ago.
I don't think that's a hot take. Now, here's a question.
Is Philadelphia the best team in the NFL
now? Because you were saying Detroit a week ago was.
I think Buffalo
Buffalo and
Philadelphia
and then Detroit, Kansas City.
Those four, put it in any order you want,
but that feels like it to me.
I'm going to tell you that, Buffalo playing at home.
Decent.
Yeah, they're decent.
Next up.
Pittsburgh Steelers, the team I owe an apology to.
What a performance.
They beat the Bengals, scoring 44 points.
Russell Wilson was tremendous.
What a resurgence for Russell Wilson.
But a subplot here is Mr. George Pickens.
As you see here on TV, he made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Getting two unsportsman-like penalties was lucky to avoid an ejection.
I don't know what he's doing, man.
He's putting a football on a Bengals player's head, making the finger guns.
Dude, what do we doing?
So Mike Tomlin addressed his wife.
side receivers antics.
They just got to grow up, man.
This emotional game, man,
these divisional games are big.
He got a target on his back
because he's George. He understands that.
But he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up
in the hurt.
He does. That's well put.
It's fine against Cincinnati,
but you're not, you know, the margins
shrink when you play play playoff teams.
You don't want to go overboard, but is there a little
Randy Moss in this kid?
I mean, Moss was supremely
talented. Pickens is unbelievable.
I mean, watching this guy in space and going to get it?
I mean, listen, for whatever reasons, wide receivers, it's an emotional position, whatever reasons.
And so it's not the first time we've seen this.
You know, it's even receivers I really like get highly emotional.
So it's just kind of just part and parcel to the position, I think.
Now, Tomlin knows his receivers well.
He moved off, remember Deontay Johnson?
He just got rid of.
He knows his personnel.
By the way, side story.
Did you see what Deontay Johnson did for the Ravens yesterday?
Nothing.
Zero targets. Think about this.
Steelers tend to move off receivers at the right time.
Antonio Brown,
Julius Smith, Schuster, Martavis Bryant, Chase Claypool, Deonté Johnson.
They know, now I think Pickens is better,
is more talented than all of those except AB.
Okay, yeah.
A.B. was, I mean, listen, he's a,
he's all-time talent, yeah.
Like, the guy's ridiculous.
So Pickens has to clean that up.
Colin, I don't want to get, listen, I obviously owe the Steelers an apology.
I've been bashing them all season, Fugazi, fraudulent.
I mean, they had eight different pass catchers with a 20-yard catch yesterday.
Eight.
Who's the second best team in the AFC?
Take your time on this.
Well, Buffalo's number one.
Kansas City's two.
Coaching quarterback.
Newtrial field.
Kansas City.
Kansas City.
For sure.
Yeah.
Pittsburgh will be close with everything.
Pittsburgh's not getting blown out by anybody.
It's like Philadelphia is too good.
If Philadelphia loses, it's close.
If Pittsburgh loses the way they play, it'll be close.
They're just, they're just, Russell doesn't turn the ball over.
So they're like Baltimore.
He threw a pick six early.
I know.
They're not there.
Russell.
But they're not his day.
That's for 400 yards.
Yeah, I mean, they just beat you.
I mean, Arthur Smith has done some impressive stuff.
No, he's been a great hire for them.
I mean, they got, you can't really man up pickings because he's going to beat anybody one-on-one.
Friarmooth is good.
Nagee Harris.
I mean, the kid Austin had some nice catches.
Yeah, no, they're, they're good.
I mean, we said this last year.
I think they have a top five roster in the league.
I said it last year.
They just weren't good at quarterback.
The first year was quarterback.
And, you know, Russ, again, maybe I'm getting sucked in.
You know he's only played like six or seven years.
I've been saying this now for a year.
You all keep clinging to Aaron Rogers is good and he's not,
and you all keep bashing Russell and he's actually good.
But I mean, this whole thing about Aaron's done.
Kirk Cousins looks done.
Russell's not done.
Isn't that incredible?
Aaron Rogers is done.
Russell Wilson was supposed to be done two years ago.
He's back down.
I mean, Russ could go to the AFC champions.
Well, Russ also, I think works harder in the offseason, is more focused.
And I also think the Steelers are a better organization by far than the Jets.
So a lot of times in life, it's where you land.
And I think Russell landed with an elite organization.
Last thing on the Steelers.
Coach of the Year is Tomlin or Kevin O'Connell.
Who you got?
Well, Pittsburgh's got better players, so you'd say Kevin O'Con.
If Sean Payton gets this team into the playoffs, I give it to Sean
Oh, over.
Tomlin?
They were a five-win over-under team with a rookie quarterback in a division with Mahomes, Harbaugh, Herbert, and Andy Reid.
It's hard.
They get it.
Sean Payton, Tomlin, Kevin O'Connell.
I'm not a huge awards guy, but that's a tough one.
Also, we need to talk about the high split at some point.
Just file it away.
We do.
I know nobody cares.
Final story is Minnesota Vikings.
Did not start strong yesterday.
It was really ugly.
I think they had like 75 yards at halftime or something.
They didn't.
To be honest, only three penalties.
They were super.
efficient. They got out game big by Arizona. What hurt early on, Aaron Jones had a fumble and a drop and they bailed on him.
Oh, look at that throw. But I think that was the fourth down pass to Justin Jefferson. Sammy D. He was excellent.
Sammy D. was bringing it. Listen, man. You need a game winning drive. Sam Donald's your guy.
Convording a fourth and long and then the go-ahead score with 70 seconds left. Yep.
Fifth straight wins. Listen, they're 10 and two. I know it's crazy. And they're going to be the fourth seed in the NFC.
And you know here they've done it. It's like Baltimore has tried to.
to work through its problems, special teams in defense, but has lost a lot of games.
Minnesota in the weaker conference has worked through some problems, but they're winning
those games. Remember the Jacksonville game? They won. They were terrible in the red zone.
They weren't very good for two and a half quarters in this game. So Minnesota, it's a little bit
of an advantage to play in the NFC over the AFC.
Oh, huge. I'm sorry, not fourth seed for Vikings. Fifth. So they're going to have to go on the road
in their first game. And I'm taking them over.
over Tampa.
Are you sure they're not going to win the division?
When Detroit loses Thursday.
That opens things up.
I like Green Bay Thursday against Detroit.
I can't believe that opens six.
Well, it was six on the look-ahead line,
and then the injuries and the unimpressiveness Thanksgiving,
so it's down to three and a half.
But, yeah, Packers, Vikings, Lions,
that's a tough three-off.
I wouldn't cancel Minnesota out from winning the division.
And, oh, by the way, like Green Bay going to Seattle or Arizona,
That's not a tall order.
We could have three teams from the north in the second round.
Listen, Chicago is like five plays from being an eight-play team.
They've played elite teams.
That's why a lot of people like that job and like them this week in San Francisco.
I guess we'll say for later.
J-MAC with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd line news.
I was thinking about this with the San Francisco 49ers.
You're not going to fire Kyle Shanahan.
He's very good.
But I do think you have to get him away from personnel.
And here's what happens.
It hurt Bill O'Brien.
It hurt Gruden.
It hurt Belichick.
I think it hurt Pete Carroll.
Is that what happens is the coaches, the star coaches,
make three times what the general manager does.
I mean, McVeigh makes much more than less need.
Shanahan is going to make much more than John Lynn.
And so when these coaches get into these power situations, they get a lot of personnel say.
And I think Kyle is drafting players for the moment.
They've let their O line and their D line.
They've neglected it.
And I think he has to step back.
You know, Pete Carroll and Seattle, the death of Paul Allen, there was a leadership void, a vacuum.
And then Pete kind of got in and had, in my opinion, a little too much control with personnel.
John Snyder was going to take the lion's job.
They pulled him back, and John, the last two or three drafts,
has controlled it.
Shocker, the Seahawks have had three straight great drafts.
I like Kyle Shanahan, but I look at their drafts,
and it feels like the coach has a little bit too much power.
Now, there are some coaches who are very good with personnel.
Sean Payton, Jimmy Johnson.
I've been told McVeigh is good with personnel.
He's got a real sense for it.
Most coaches, I think, are better off coaching.
players playing, GM's GMing.
But, I mean,
when I look at Kyle Shanahan
on that team,
I mean, they're spiraling out of control.
There's no easy fix. They're not one swing away.
And when you're watching Brock Purdy on the field with Josh Allen,
remember what these games are going to look like in December and January, February,
as they're going to look like, did that look like an even fight at quarterback?
So here's Shanahan on his team spiraling out of control.
This is the whole we put ourselves in and made a lot of tough.
offer and if we want to get out of it, we got to do some special here.
We're not as good of a team as those past teams.
So that's kind of how I look at it.
We're not the same team at all.
Every team each year is different.
But I'm not going to say that this team is the same as last year's team.
We're just not fighting us hard.
We've got a bunch of different guys out there.
We've been trying to find our way since the beginning.
Haven't quite found that yet.
There's still a lot of season left, and we expect to play better.
And by the way, when you added the cold and the snow in the wind of Buffalo,
That looked like Josh Allen against Mac Jones last night.
I'm just saying, I mean, you can talk about all you want.
Everybody looks good in September and October.
That football game, that's what the weather is.
That's why Northern teams, historically, that's where the dynasties happened.
As good as the dolphins were with Marino and Shula.
Dan Marino got the one Super Bowl.
John Elway got to a lot of them in cold weather, Denver.
Because this is how this sport ends every year.
It looks like that.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.
Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast.
Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a podcast.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about.
what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
one of the early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast
where people could call in and say,
Hey Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

So during the Michigan Ohio State game when it ended, and this thing will go away.
It was the flag planting.
And so it got really ugly during Ohio State Michigan.
But Arizona State did it to Arizona.
South Carolina did it to Clemson.
North Carolina did it to NC State.
By the way, Texas was going to do it to Texas A&M
and Sark pulled the longhorns off the field.
He's like, nah, I've been watching TV today.
I know what's going on.
Get out of here.
So it's going to go away.
Kids are emotional.
I'm not going to make too much of it.
The much bigger issue, because they won't allow this stuff going forward.
It'll be a huge fine.
And, you know, when you have a big rivalry game and 19 to 23-year-old kids,
stuff can get sideways pretty quick.
This is pretty classless, both sides.
But it happens.
It's ugly. I mean, there was pepper spray. It was brutal.
It's not the end of the world. It'll get fixed real quick.
So the bigger issue is, and it's that Ohio State has lost, or I'm not sure it's ever had under Ryan Day, an identity.
They brought Chip Kelly in to be more of a run-centric power football because that's what Chip Kelly does.
But they're not. And I said this earlier, and I really believe this, a head coach's job is to win games.
and sometimes he's got to tell a coordinator
or a special teams coordinator.
We're not going for a block here.
We're not blitzing here.
We're throwing the ball here.
It felt like Ohio State was trying to prove,
hey, we can be more physical than Michigan.
Well, Michigan's two best players are arguably defensive linemen,
so it was going to be hard to run on them.
And Ohio State's old lines all banged up this year.
Throw the ball.
I mean, they were missing in one of their better corners,
I believe Michigan was like,
throw the ball. You're at home. Speed the tempo up. Michigan's not as deep as you this year.
They lost too many NFL guys. And so Ryan Day acted a lot like coordinators act.
And I do think a lot of, and I, you know, Ryan Day is a good coach. I don't think he's a great coach.
He's not Urban Meyer. He's not Nick Saban. He's not Davos-Sweeney.
But, but I, and I see this before, is that Mark Rickett, Georgia, never been a head coach before the Georgia job.
He did a good job. He was a fine coach. But you always felt like what is Georgia beyond
talented. What's their identity? An Urban Meyer team, a Saban team, a Pete Carroll team. There are multiple
steps that Ryan Day skipped. He was a quarterback coach, briefly a coordinator. Your job,
that's usually like Dayton or Toledo. That's not Ohio State. So I feel like he's struggling
to have an identity and your identity should be based on a couple of things. One, your personnel.
Ohio State has become the best wide receiver university in the country.
They have a great recruiter, Brian Hartline.
Their receiving core every year is better than 50% of the NFL or more.
Throw the ball.
Spend money on quarterbacks, left tackles, and recruit high school wide receivers.
Throw the ball.
That's what you are.
Oregon, by the way, has figured that out.
Oregon has a real identity with Dan Lannning.
And again, this is a guy who'd never been a head coach, but Dan Lannning is like,
we are going to play relentless aggressive football,
but they recruit California speed.
So Oregon's like, let's go pay money for a transfer quarterback,
and we're going to spread it out and throw the ball.
Oregon has an identity.
So some coaches who have never been head coaches,
they can figure out that identity.
When I watch Oregon, Oregon is telling you,
we're faster than you.
We're going to spread you at you can't cover our receiver.
We got too many good fast guys.
You don't have that many good corners.
Let's roll.
We're going to throw the ball.
going to go vertical and they play hard and they're aggressive and they go for it.
Oregon's got that identity with Dan Lanning.
You're not beating us in Opson.
We're faster than you.
We're a track team.
You can't keep up and we're going to hit you in the mouth.
We're going to be hyper aggressive.
Fourth downs, we're going for it.
Blitzing, we're all for it.
I don't know what Ohio State's identity is.
They're talented.
Michigan has an identity.
And their identity this year is they can't pass.
But they're physical.
They're physical, and they can stop your run.
But that's as bad a loss as I can ever remember an Ohio State team having.
At home, against a walk-on quarterback, Michigan was missing two of their best players.
I mean, it's just, I woke up the next morning.
I still couldn't figure it out.
What did I watch?
Hour three next.
Hey, guys, it's us and the Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite on humor.
with Robert Smygel and friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021.
and I'm Kunky, his best friend, and business manager.
And we've got a new show called The 1021 podcast.
I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers.
We also love sports.
And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest
storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA.
Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano.
It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs.
We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.
And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
If we didn't talk ever again, I was part of it.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game seven, Marquis come in to him, he's like, you know I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get
your podcasts. This week on
Crimless, Rory and I welcome
a very special guest. When I
did a podcast, I wear my sleep masks. I like
where this is going. So,
if you guys will indulge me. That's
right. The incredibly talented and hilarious
Will Ferrell on an
episode dedicated to crimes committed
by people named
Will Ferrell. You're good for 300
crimes? Yeah. We've got
two. I'm
ready to go right up to present
day. Listen to Crimless on the
iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
This is an IHeart podcast.
Guaranteed human.
