This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but the show.

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me. I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English. Each
episode, we pick a year, unpack
what went down, and try to make sense of how we
survived it with our friends, fellow
comedians, and favorite authors. Like
Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1, Jason McIntyre, joining me.
How important is the quarterback position?
Deshawn and Kyler Murray.
Kyler just signed today.
have signed in the last couple of months for $390 million guaranteed,
and they have three playoff games and one playoff win between them.
Deshawn in 2019 won a playoff game.
So it shows you the value of the position.
And this is one of these things.
The only downside to this,
so this happens all the time,
where we create legislation or we make a change,
J-MAC, to something, and we don't see the downside of it.
You know, Gavin Newsom, California governor, pushed for player empowerment and the NIL.
And then UCLA said, yeah, we need more money to keep up with that.
We're going to the Big Ten.
And now Gavin Newsom doesn't like it.
If you create legislation and promote the NIL, you have to understand people will react to sudden monetary changes.
Right?
People change.
And so the NFL has moved very much toward and
offensive league. And I've said this multiple times. For most of my life, the middle of a football
field was the defenses. Receivers did not want to go over the middle. The tight end would,
and maybe occasionally you'd have a bigger receiver like a Michael Irvin who would. But there was a
term used all the time, alligator arms. You could take a guy's head off. Then the NFL said,
no more doing that. We'll throw you out of the game. And now the middle of the field is the
offenses part of the field. It has neutralized defenses. That's why you got to pay big money for a
pass rusher because you can't beat anybody sitting in coverage. Receivers go all over the field.
I mean, it used to be to get down the field quickly in the NFL, it was a sideline route.
It was a post. It was a flag. It was a sideline right now. Seam route right down the middle of the
field. Offense owns the middle. And that means the only way to stop teams is edge rushers.
because you can't just sit back in coverage.
The Pete Carroll style, you know, some of these coverages now,
that's Seattle's, as their pass rush is diminished,
you can't cover anybody for four seconds anymore.
It's over.
It's an arms race.
Get quarterbacks, get weapons, and get pass rushers.
And right now the AFC West is the best by far.
So, you know, I look at Kyler Murray.
As the NFL's become more offensively driven,
it has made the quarterbacks so,
valuable. And that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as they're upright and don't get hurt.
But this is the new world we live in. I mean, we see this all the time in America. There's
legislation. It makes this industry way more important. And coal has been fighting the government
for years, right? We like to get off coal. We want to get into tech. We want to get into solar.
And so I look at the top 10 quarterbacks in the end of the highest paid quarterbacks now are
Aaron, Kyler, Deshawn, Patrick, Josh. I don't have a problem.
with any of. Now, I would not have paid Deshawn Watson that kind of money guaranteed, but he is better
than Baker. He will win a bunch of games, and Cleveland out of the Baker situation had to do something
big. I wouldn't have done it the way they did it. But I don't have, you know, the annual salary
doesn't bother me because in one year, guys will move in and out of that. Whoever signs,
there was a point that Kirk Cousins was the highest paid guy. That probably Aaron, Matt Ryan at one
point was. Tony Romo at the end got a big deal. Everybody freaks out about it. I don't care about
your annual salary. The bottom line is these guys are all exceptional and they all get paid.
People are going to push back on Kyler Murray that, you know, he's a little immature.
Folks, they're all like 24 years old. What do you want?
I mean, they're 24-year-old kids and the public eye making hundreds of millions of dollars.
What do you want them to be? Accountants? They're not. They're artists. So, you know,
sometimes I think Aaron Rogers and Kyler, in my opinion, do too much stuff out there.
A little, I don't have the stomach for it. But that's who they are.
That's their personality.
And they're going to leverage their brand and they're going to have big opinions and
they're going to fire back.
And, you know, some of these guys scrub social media accounts.
I don't like that at all.
But it's just the world we live in.
I'm not going to be, you know, the grumpy old guy screaming at clouds.
It's not everybody's the same.
You know, Kevin Durant's prickly.
It so is Aaron Rogers.
It is what it is.
It's not my cup of tea, but it is what it is.
So I would have paid for it.
I did this last week.
I don't do a lot of quarterback ratings per se, but I hadn't done one in a while.
and I said, there was some story that came out, and I said, I would, my top 10 quarterbacks in the league,
Mahomes, Alan, Brady, Rogers, Russell, Stafford, Burrow, Herbert, Kyler, and Derek Carr.
Now, I like Derek Carr more than everybody else, but he leads the NFL and fourth quarter comeback since he entered the league.
I had like DAC 11, Lamar 12, or vice versa.
You know, there's about 12 guys in the league who I'd build my franchise around.
You're looking at them right there.
So to me, Kyler's size worries me.
The injuries worry me a little, but I'd pay for it.
Folks, what are the Arizona Cardinals without him?
Irrelevant, awful in that division, and in chaos.
I'd pay the money.
Peter King, haven't talked to Peter in a while, joining us live.
Football Morning in America, NBCSports.com.
Yeah, I mean, you know, listen, Peter, some things cost a lot of money.
You live in the Northeast.
If you want to buy a house in Cape Cod, it's going to cost you a lot of money, right?
So I kind of look at it, and I would have paid Kyler.
I would have paid him.
I mean, your thoughts on it.
Well, you know, Colin, this is one of the kind of the really difficult things to try to figure in today's football. How much is Kyler Murray worth? How much is Lamar Jacksonworth? You know, the Arizona Cardinals have now agreed to pay Kyler Murray more over the next five years on average than Patrick Mahomes makes. And most people are going to think that that's lunacy. But everything in quarter of the year,
back contracts is a hopscotch. And my personal feeling is, if I were the Ravens, I would not pay
Lamar Jackson until after the season. You still have to be very concerned about what he is as a
playoff player, because he has been bad in the playoffs, in four games. And I know that that's a
different subject. But Kyler Murray, to me, you just said something that is absolutely totally right.
Did he play lousy down the stretch? Did he play a crummy playoff game? Yes, yes, all that.
But the bottom line is when he was drafted, the Cardinals were arguably the worst team in the
league. And right now, he has them relevant. He has them in position every day they go out and play a game
with Kyler Murray, the quarterback, they've got a chance.
That was not the case before.
You know, I said this before.
I've heard reports that it could be a little standoffish.
He's got a unique personality.
And, you know, it's really, I try to think about this, Peter, because I got a lot of kids.
Mike, I have six kids.
They all have different personalities.
And Aaron's a little too cryptic for my taste.
I don't like when Kider Scrubs his social media.
I'm not into that at all.
And I think to myself, well,
one of my kids would do that.
One of my kids is cryptic.
And I look at Kyler's personality.
And you know what I think?
For three and a half hours on Sunday, I like his personality.
He's a game.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
So sometimes I'm too hard.
Maybe I was too hard on snarkiness of Baker or kind of the cryptic nature of Aaron.
But you've heard these reports on Kyler, I'm sure, that, you know, he's not always the
greatest guy in the room.
He's a, you know, baseball is an.
individual sport. He's kind of an individual. Does that bother you at all? Well, you'd prefer everybody
to be kumbaya and have the, you know, the sort of Brady allure and personality and gravitas.
But people are all different. Kyler Murray grew up in the video game generation. He's not an
outgoing guy. You can't make the guy something that he isn't. And he is not in any way a jerk.
He's just, he's quiet, he's reserved. That's just, that's life. And so I don't really mind it at all.
And, you know, I think to me, when I consider who Kyler Murray is as a player, you said it at the top of this segment, Colin.
And that is that every time they play a game, they have a chance because of him.
And, you know, over the next five years, you know, I knew that they'd get something done before the start of the season.
and I like the fact that this is only five years because if the zits continue to show, as they did
occasionally this year, and if he's heard a lot, if all that stuff, well, you haven't hamstring
your franchise beyond five years.
So I think that this probably is a fairly reasonable compromise.
You know, this will sound like a crazy question, but just play with me here.
So do you play
Do you play Wordle?
I don't, but I know what it is, obviously.
I play crossword puzzles a lot.
Yeah, I'm a Wordle guy.
My wife and I every morning.
So Wordle got purchased for like $2.5 million, $3 million.
And I remember when I got purchased, I told my wife,
I said, I could have afforded Wordle.
It's my favorite game in the world.
I'm like, I can't believe it went for that price.
And I say that because I look at Jimmy Garrette.
And he's going to be on the market.
And Peter, you and I know at the end of this year, eight teams are going to be looking for a quarterback because my entire life eight teams are looking for a quarterback.
You and I also know, half the first round quarterbacks will not work.
Garapolo has won big games.
He's won at Lambo.
He's outplayed Mahomes in the Super Bowl for three quarters.
He's had two brilliant coaches.
By the way, they say he's never healthy.
He was healthy for 15 and 17 and three playoff games.
He played every game of the Super Bowl season.
I don't get why the market for Garapolo, it's got a one-year deal at $25 million.
I don't understand why it's not more dynamic, Peter.
Explain it to me.
Because I think too many people doubt that they want to put their franchise in the hands
of Jimmy Garoppolo for the long term.
And I think if you make a deal for Jimmy Garoppolo, you don't want it to be a 17-game experiment.
You know, you probably want to say,
let's see what happens and let's sign him for the next X number of years.
So like if you're John Schneider right now and you're in Seattle and you're thinking about what you have,
the one thing that John Schneider has that I'm sure he likes is he's got the first decent salary cap situation over the next few years that he's had in a while.
And he doesn't have to invest all that money in a quarterback.
and quite honestly, if they invested money in Jimmy Garoppolo right now, Colin, I ask you this,
would you be sure they had their quarterback in the long-term future?
I don't think you would be. I don't think you can be.
But I like Jimmy Garapolo, and I think he can be a winning quarterback with the right team
as he was in San Francisco this past year.
Yeah, I think Tampa is a place I'd put him.
So I had this theory on Seattle, Peter, I'll throw it at you.
But Tampa can't afford him.
Okay, I'll throw this at you.
That because of the Russell Wilson trade, the Hawks have two first and two seconds next year.
That's four premier picks.
The Niners probably only get a fourth rounder for Jimmy.
Probably that's the market.
But they could go to the Seahawks and say, okay, you're in division.
Okay.
So we're taking a risk trading him to you.
You got to give us a second.
So the Niners could get a better pick out of Seattle.
and here's my argument.
I don't know if Jimmy Garoppolo's the future,
but I know this year and next year he'd be better than anybody you could get,
even if you got Bryce Young.
He wouldn't be as good as Jimmy next year.
And so I go to Jimmy and say, I'll eat your contract this year.
Let's make it a two-year deal with a team option third.
And I think that's the best he's going to get on the market.
I think if I'm Seattle, I make a move because if nothing else,
we know Peter, he's a great guy in the room.
and that if you draft a quarterback and he can't beat him out, he's a terrific mentor and he's a good guy.
Did I sell you?
Great guy.
I mean, he's one of my favorite players to deal with in this league.
He's just a good human being.
And he's a great competitor, played hurt down the stretch last year.
As you said, he didn't play great, but they went into Lambo.
He beat Aaron Rogers.
I mean, there's a lot to like about Jimmy Garabolo.
I'd love to have him on my team.
My only question is, do I want to commit my future to him?
That is a good compromise.
You know, to get him in there for a couple of years, lower the cap number this year by giving them some money in the future.
I don't mind that, but I just think right now, if I were Jimmy, I would tell the Niners, listen, if you want me to report to camp, I'll report to camp.
I will not be a squeaky wheel.
But can we please wait until Labor Day weekend?
Because Colin, remember the San Bradford deal?
It doesn't happen a lot.
But there are times when your quarterback is Teddy Bridgewater
and he gets hurt at the end of training camp
and you need a quarterback and you're going to be desperate to go get one.
If I were Garapolo, I would either want to go to Seattle
or I would want to wait.
I'd want to wait for the next five weeks.
so that I could then go to a place where I'd be welcome with open arms
rather than with sort of a side-eye look.
How does anybody in Seattle know that he's going to be the guy long-term?
Yeah.
Okay, I'm going to throw up.
You guys have my NFL predictions from yesterday.
I make three predictions before camp, during camp, and right before the season.
So I'm going to put them up real quickly and just tell me something.
Find something that you totally disagree with.
So I'm not going to put any pressure on you.
So can we put up the AFC?
And I think a lot of this stuff is reasonably predictable.
Do we have that?
Okay, here we go.
And I'll ask you, hold your applause until the end, Peter.
So here we go.
Go to the next one.
Okay, so I got Bill's Dolphins, Patriots Jets.
Let's go to the AFC.
Keep moving them, guys, quickly.
Here we go, AFC North.
Now, this is a hard one for me, but I just don't know what I get from Lamar
and Deshaun, I think he's going to be suspended for a lot.
I'll go bingle, Steelers, Ravens, Browns, okay.
Let's go to the...
I put Steelers forth.
Okay.
Broncos...
I just really...
Quarterback there.
A lot more than the quarterback in both other places.
All right.
Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders.
That is insane.
I think the Chargers are going to win that division.
Broncos are not winning the division.
Wow.
I like the Chargers.
All right.
Isn't it crazy when you look at that division?
division to have the Raiders fourth.
I think this makes sense, assuming that Matt Ryan is Matt Ryan.
Okay.
And Ryan Tanna Hills, Ryan Tanna Hill.
Okay.
So in review, you like the Steelers to win the division?
Or finish fourth?
No. You don't like the Steelers?
Fourth.
Okay.
So you think the Steelers are fourth.
I think the Browns because of Deshawn fourth.
I don't think he's going to play until Thanksgiving.
All right.
So my, my AFC playoff teams are Bills, Bengals, Colts, Broncos, Dolphins, Chiefs, Chargers.
anything out you don't think the Broncos are going to be good
I mean I think they're going to be a lot better than they were
but I don't I'm not a bullish Broncos
winning the division I just think that's really
I think that's a huge leap of faith
when you haven't beaten Kansas City
in 900 years
and when the other teams in the division are all you'll be lucky if you split with them
okay let's go to the NFC we'll go
division by division and let you have an opinion.
NFC East, Philly, Dallas, Washington, Giants thoughts.
That's exactly how I would have.
Okay. Let's go to NFC North.
I think the Vikings are the most improved team in the league.
My opinion, Vikings, Packers, Lions, Bears.
I mean, I don't know.
I think the Vikings, look, I'm just not sold on the Vikings.
I've heard all these things in the offseason.
Vikings are great and all that.
I just will say one thing.
The Packers, by Thanksgiving, will be a top three defense in football,
and the quarterback is Aaron Rogers, and they'll figure it out.
The Packers are going to win the North.
Okay, let's go to NFC West.
Rams, Cardinals, Niners, Hawks.
I think Trey Lance will be good enough with the great coach.
Thoughts?
Niners ahead of the Cardinals.
I agree with the Rams, and I agree with the Seahawks.
All right.
So finally, to the worst division, arguably in football,
Bucks, Saints, Panthers, Falcons, Falcons feel like they're tanking thoughts here?
This is exactly how I would have it.
Falcons worry me long term a little bit.
I think they should be better by now.
The Panthers, David Tepper, is finding out that money can't buy a quarterback
or a training facility in Rock Hill South Carolina.
I think the Bucks, I think the Bucks have a tough schedule.
They absolutely do.
But I think that they are a step ahead of the Saints.
Colin, you know what's weird about this division, though?
Why?
Why?
Why are the Saints?
Why are they so much better than Tom Brady, like, consistently?
The Bucks are not going to sweep the Saints this year.
And in fact, they might go O and 2 against them.
So if the Saints are better than we all think, we might go into Week 17 with still a battle
on our hands in that division.
But I digress.
Okay.
The NFC playoff team, Eagle, Vikings, Bucks, Rams, Packers, Cardinals, Niners, anything that's outrageous.
Vikings?
I mean, I just don't like the Vikings as much as you do.
I think Green Bay still has the best chance to win home field in the NFC.
But these are not outlandish, in my opinion.
I mean, you got the Vikings and the Broncos.
And, Colin, the reason why I'd never say, other than the fact I just called you insane.
Yeah. The reason I would never say that, oh, my God, this is unbelievable, it's ridiculous,
is because every year two or three teams like this happen. You've just got the Cajonais right now
to pick a couple of these and everybody said you're crazy. Like, I think the Lions are going to be
a contender to be 500. I like the Lions. Yeah. I think there's a bunch of other teams. I like
the Eagles to be a top 10 team this year. I mean, there are just some things that when you say,
and people go, oh, you're out of your mind.
But every year, things like that happen,
I just try to predict a few of them as you are.
For the record on the Lions, I said this last year.
They were the most entertaining bad team in the league.
I loved Campbell's sometimes cheesy, sometimes odd,
Jurassic sort of approach to the microphone.
I think sometimes he's outdated, but the players bought it,
and they have really nice offensive pieces, Peter, left tackle, receiver, tight end,
running back, quarterback, it's a pretty good offense.
Hey, listen, listen, if Jameson Williams is playing by, let's say, Thanksgiving,
or, you know, early December, which I think the projections are that way,
if he's playing with six weeks to go, all of a sudden, you saw what the Lions
did last year.
They go three and three down the stretch.
They're three and one in Jared Gough's last four starts.
And so, look, I'm not in the Jared Gough fan club necessarily,
but their whole idea this year, Colin, is Jared Gough is accurate in certain areas of the
field.
And so in my opinion, you know, if you got a fantasy tight end need, you look for T.J.
Hawkinson because he's going to get 115 targets. And you look at the short and intermediate areas
where they're going to make, hey, the one other thing I would say, don't overlook DJ Chark this
year. That guy, in my opinion, has got a chance to really rekindle his career in Detroit.
Yeah, I don't necessarily think you're wrong. I don't. I don't think Green Bay is going to
dominate the division. I think I don't like what I see in Chicago. I may love the city.
but I don't necessarily love everything about the bears.
Peter King, read his stuff.
Kyler Murray has been signed by Arizona.
That's the breaker today. NBCSports.com.
Hope you have enough, seven weeks of summer.
Enjoy it, Peter.
Thanks so much, Colin.
Take care.
You bet.
Yeah, so there we go.
Kyler Murray, officially in Arizona Cardinal
for the foreseeable future.
Not fully guaranteed like Cleveland,
but, you know, I look at the deal.
I think it's good for Kyler.
I think he could have gotten more waiting, but I think with his relative injury history,
I would have taken the money up front.
And I think Arizona got a reasonable deal.
Maybe it's not Kansas City Mahomes team friendly, but it feels pretty team friendly.
It leans team friendly, and Kyler got his.
And so, I mean, listen, if you are, it's a reality of sports.
Anthony Davis, by the way, he wanted a long contract.
He's like, I get hurt a lot.
like but I talked about Zion Williamson.
I'm like, is he going to sign long term?
After the second big injury, Zion's like, yeah, I'm going to stay here and take the money.
That's generational stuff.
Zion Williamson got one more big injury.
He's never getting that money.
There's no way you can pay him.
If Kyler Marie this year, week 11, out, he's not getting that money.
Smaller athlete getting hurt for a second, third time.
Like, I'm not paying that.
So again, he could get.
Good money, this is great money.
So I think Kyler and his agent wanted to get signed early with that in the back of their head.
And I think Arizona got a deal that's reasonable, maybe not friendly, but reasonable, both teams win.
Sometimes in trades, both teams win.
In this deal, both sides won.

I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.

Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

After one of the greatest games in recent memory,
the MLB returns to the place where dreams come true.
Relive the magic when the Reds take on the Cubs for one game in heaven.
One game at the Field of Dreams, August 11th on Fox.
So I saw something that's the unintended consequence of idealism.
So Gavin Newsom, California's a good.
economy is very good. We got a hundred million, $100 billion budget. Most states are broke.
So we're doing something right. And I don't think, you know, some of the criticism of Gavin Newsom is
warranted. I think he's a very smart guy. But he got caught with some hypocrisy here. So,
so Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, was on the forefront of creating NIL. And he went back
and said, we are going to punish the outdated NCAA. And now Gavin Newsom is outraged that UCLA,
is leaving California's college football conference of note and going to the Big Ten.
Well, time out.
What Gavin Newsom wanted to create was a more pro-like system.
Pay the players.
Well, that's like the pros.
He was all for that.
Well, guess what also happens in the pros, Gav?
The Rams leave St. Louis and go to L.A.
They upgrade.
The Raiders go to Vegas.
They upgrade.
That's pro sports.
The Sonics leave Seattle.
They feel they upgrade.
You wanted a pro sports model.
This is a pro sports model where it's about money and upgrading.
And UCLA is going to the Big Ten and two and a half to three times annual revenue.
That's pro sports.
So you're completely naive as a politician.
And I like Gavin Newsom.
But you're naive if you think you can do a quick,
sudden change to an industry and not get pushback or the duality of change.
It's just one of many dominoes.
So Gavin Newsom wanted a pro model.
Pay the players.
I want it to be like pro sport, not amateurism.
Amateurism is ridiculous.
And UCLA is like, yeah, it is kind of ridiculous.
We're $100 million in debt.
We're going to go to the Big Ten and make three times the annual revenue.
upgrading like pro sports.
So I support UCLA moving and I support the NIL.
But I'm not naive on this stuff.
If you take a big swing financially or create rapid sudden change,
you're going to get reactions to it.
People are going to protect their turf.
And UCLA is part of the UC system.
And Gavin wanted to punish the NCAA.
Well, UCLA is part of the NCAA.
And UCLA is like, okay, now we're in a bidding war.
we got to get more solvent financially how to do that.
Boom,
Big Ten.
And I think it's better for the UCLA students.
Isn't it better to play Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Penn State,
Big Brands, or Oregon State again?
Or go to Pullman again.
So you wanted your kids to benefit.
They are.
You wanted to be a pro model.
It is.
Stan Cronkey.
Love you, St. Louis Baseball Town.
We're going to the big city.
Well, that's what the Bruins are doing.
They're going to the big city.
The big city is the big 10.
Not the fast, quickly, swiftly eroding Pact 12.
J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, Kyle, first story.
Jimmy Garapolo is on the trade market.
We've talked about it mad nauseam.
But the Browns, curiously, don't seem to be interested.
Cleveland reportedly will not pursue Garapolo.
however, they are bringing in two quarterbacks to potentially back up Jacoby Brissette during
Deshaun Watson's suspension. Now, these are big-time named quarterbacks who you know, number one,
A.J. McCarran of Alabama Crimson Tide fame. And the other guy is Josh Rosen, former top 10 pick.
That's fine. Colin, this is, to put it mildly, underwhelming, right? Do either of these guys excite you
and Jimmy G? A proven winners on the market?
This is not the fit. Listen, you guarantee the contract for,
a guy with all sorts of civil suits and you're going to pay the price.
The price being this year, you're going to be unsettled at quarterback.
There's no reason to dig the whole deeper.
You're going to be unsettled at quarterback that you knew going in that this wasn't going
to be smooth and he would be, you knew there was going to be turbulence.
You're going to discover how bumpy the ride is, how bumpy the flight is here in about a
week or two.
And my guess is it's six to eight game suspension.
This is part.
If you buy an old house, you want to fix it up.
You know the first year, you're going to have tarp all over the house,
and you're going to have dust all over the house.
It's like, that's the reality.
You make a decision.
Honey, we're going to buy a house that needs work.
Are you willing to have tarp downstairs in the kitchen for four months?
If the answer is yes, then you buy the house.
You knew this was part of Deshaun.
It was going to be turbulent for a year.
Eat it for a year.
Don't bring in another quarterback.
So the pushback is pro football focus says that the Browns have
sixth best roster in the entire league.
Well, it's not going to be terrible in a year.
Okay.
Yeah, but I mean, AJ McCarran coming off a torn ACL, 41 pass attempts in four years.
Josh Rosen, four teams in four years.
Brissette and either of those guys, do you think they can hold down the fort until Watson shows up?
Well, no, not in that division.
If he misses eight games, they're probably going to go two and six and end up 500 with Deshaun.
But again, this, Deshaun move was a five-year deal.
And you knew it was going to be bumpy in year one.
The flight will eventually land.
But you know on the takeoff, you know, you've said the pilot said before,
we're going to be bumpy here leaving so-and-so city,
but we'll smooth out by the time we get to 33,000 feet.
You're at the takeoff for Cleveland for the next month.
All right.
Two.
Second story sticking in the division, Colin, the Cincinnati Bengals, your guy, Joe Cool,
Joe Burrow.
They're trying to capitalize on last season's success,
the incredible Super Bowl run.
The organization got unanimous.
approval, Colin, from the city to build an indoor practice facility in Cincinnati. Now the team's
looking to sell the naming rights to Paul Brown Stadium. They're upgrading. They're leveling up thanks to
Joe Burrow. That's right. Do you know who got the stadium upgrades in Lambo built, Brett Farvin,
Aaron Rogers? Do you know how Safeco Field got built in Seattle over the kingdom? Ken Griffey.
So Joe Burrow, this is going to be the practice facility Joe Burrow built. This is what Griffey did in Seattle.
it's what Farr and Aaron Rogers knows it.
All these upgrades, they weren't upgrading the stadium with Lynn Dickey.
They're upgrading the stadium with Aaron Rogers.
So Aaron is absolutely economically the engine.
And so is Joe Burrell.
I mean, do you think it's a coincidence that Joe Burrell gets them to the Super Bowl
and they get unanimous approval?
If they're one in 16, they're not getting approval.
Remember going into last season, Zach Taylor was the favorite to be first coach fired.
That's right.
The Bengals were plus 10,000 to win the Super Bowl.
they came within a quarter of winning it.
Look at that.
So if Joe Burrell was a whiff,
Zach Taylor would be fired,
they'd be an utter chaos,
and they still wouldn't have an indoor practice facility,
which matters, by the way,
because one of the knocks I've heard free agents say,
if you're going to go play North,
you've got to make practice reasonable.
Yeah.
Like there's literally free agents
who have said through the years,
dude, I'm not going to be in a hail storm
or a sleet storm in Cincinnati,
November 18th practice.
I'm not going to do it.
I thought Cincinnati was beautiful in December.
You go on a lot of vacations.
You're not going to check out the Chile in December in Cincinnati.
All right, final story, Colin, this one's a whopper.
Charles Barkley has told the New York Post he will be playing in the Live Golf Pro Am next week.
Barkley could also be making a move to live as a broadcaster.
Colin, he had dinner apparently with Greg Norman on Wednesday.
The PGA is quaking in their boots here.
We know Charles Barkley can't golf at all, but he is going to win you headlines.
His golf swings funny.
Colin, how big would it be for Live to land Charles Barkley as a broadcaster or?
I think Charles Barkley, if he wants to occasionally dabble in it, would be great.
But Charles Barkley is the best basketball analyst in the world.
He's the funniest guy on his set.
I don't think you should ever give up your strength.
So if he can make an extra $10 million a year or whatever doing golf, I'm for it.
Do you know not to name drop who contacted me four days ago?
I'm going to go to Charles Barkley.
No.
Greg Norman's people.
They want me to go to a live golf event.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
My schedule doesn't match up, but I, you know,
Greg has appreciated our support and his people.
Look at you breaking news.
This is as big as the Kyler Murray News.
So wait, so let me ask you,
you initially liked me because I was a bit of a disruptor in sports media.
Very much.
So Live is a disruptor as well.
You are disrupting the podcast space.
Okay, whatever.
Colin, seriously, this is an issue for the PGA.
At some point, they can't just keep turning their nose to this and say,
like, oh, forget these losers. We don't care.
Colin, this is becoming a problem.
Yes.
I had this discussion yesterday with somebody.
There's 45 PGA events.
I watched none of them.
Masters, they don't run that.
British Open, they don't run that.
Rider Cup, they don't really run that.
US Open, they don't run it.
So the golf events that I literally schedule my weekend around,
they don't run.
So golfers have always asked for exemption.
They just don't like the live golf exemption because they've got bottomless wallets, right?
So my takeaway is golfs being the hypocrite here.
For years, they've understood.
They don't run all of golf.
In fact, there's two PGAs.
There's PGA of America.
There's a PGA tour.
There's a USGA.
You know, Masters does its own thing.
It has always been, they're just an organizer.
That's all they are.
They're an organizer.
So you're not going to get massive loyalty when the truth is your favorite tournaments have always been.
non-PGA tournament.
Yeah.
So, Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

Kyler Murray signed a new contract five years.
They wrapped it up.
I think both sides won.
Just to show you the importance of quarterbacks.
Here's the average salary last five years.
This is the average top 10 quarterback contracts.
So in 2018, it was 26 million.
2019, it was 30.
2020, it was 34.
2021, it was 36.
and now it's 42 million.
It's exploding.
Why?
The league has changed to an offensive-centric lead.
Even excellent defensive coaches.
Mike Zimmer, Belichick, Pete Carroll, struggling now.
So this is what the league is.
It has pivoted to an offensive league.
It's why the dolphins had Brian Flores.
You're great.
See you.
Let's bring in an offensive coach from the 49ers.
So we just had Sean McVeigh and Zach Taylor in a Super Bowl.
We had in the NFC.
I mean, if you go look, I think I think my,
memory serves me correctly. Every single team that made the playoffs in the NFC had an offensive
coach. Ariens, Nick Sariani, Matt LaFleur, Sean McVeigh, Kyle Shannon. Every single NFC team had an
offensive coach. So there you go. There's only one ascending defensive coach in the NFL,
Sean McDermott, and he has Josh Allen. He's the only young defensive coach who's really ascending.
The rest of the ascenders are all offensive.
coaches. So, all right, here's, here's an interesting story. Suddenly now, it's beat up on Russell
Westbrook week. So Joe Van Buha is a writer for the athletic. Somebody told him this story.
So when stuff gets out, somebody wants it out. He works for the athletic, covers the NBA.
Here's some things he's hearing about Russell Westbrook and the Lakers.
From stuff I heard last season, like during film sessions, he would, you know, push back on stuff
that was very obvious of like, hey, you missed this defensive rotation.
He did not like being the center of attention in those film sessions.
Okay, not good for Russell Westbrook.
Here's a second bite about Westbrook's same reporter.
I think it's one thing to publicly not acknowledge it, but clearly behind the scenes,
he's not really realizing, like, if anyone trades for you,
it is because of your contract and them wanting to get off money.
and get an asset from the Lakers.
It is not because they want you to be the face of the franchise.
They want you to be the starting point guard.
Any team that takes him on is facilitating, clearing their cap sheet.
Okay, that's more opinion than source.
But here's another thing that sourced Dave McMinneman.
Zach Lowe podcast said this.
LeBron's eligible for an extension, and he's not signing it.
Let's say he goes into a year that way.
You're just added a circus to your plate for the intent.
of the 22-23 season.
That's something, in my opinion, should be leverage on the LeBron clutch side to say,
let's get this figured out.
I'll commit to you guys for a one-plus-one deal or something like that.
And let's clean up the end of this ride we've had together.
And yeah, it was small sample size last year with Russ,
but it's pretty darn clear that LeBron's seen enough.
and he has no interest in going into another year with Russ and his teammate.
All right.
Two people who are all over the Lakers beat in the NBA are hearing film sessions.
LeBron's done with Westbrook.
So now we know this.
Why are the stories getting leaked?
Stuff gets leaked.
When somebody wants it leaked,
this certainly doesn't help the Lakers trade argument.
It doesn't help their cause in trading him.
You hear all these stories about,
man, he's bad in the film room.
LeBron's done with him.
So why would these stories leak from inside the Laker organization?
This is my guess, my hunch.
They can't move him, and they've tried to move him.
And there's no market.
And so these stories are a cover for when they basically buy him out and send him home.
They don't want him in the room.
They don't want them on the court.
They don't want.
That's why stuff gets out because somebody wants it out.
So when they move off and people go, how can you just buy them out?
The Lakers can say, I mean, you saw the stories.
Film sessions were ugly, couldn't get along with Vogel, LeBron was done.
So it gives you cover.
So when you make a move, you can say, you get some favorable press that this is the only way out.
That's my hunch on this because I've been doing this for a long time.
Stuff gets out when somebody wants it out.
How did that film session get out?
Who was in it?
Coaches and players.
How did it get out?
LeBron's tired of him.
How does that get out?
You know, I mean, did LeBron personally call you?
Stuff gets out when somebody wants it out.
And so to me, it feels like they just can't find a trade partner for Russell Westbrook.
They can't get out of the deal.
They would love to.
There's no market currently.
Currently, there could be in a week.
What do we know?
But it's a little bit of cover for if they have to just move off him.
We saw a story two days ago.
Darvindham wants him to play defense.
He's not happy.
We know he's fired his agent.
So it feels inevitable like him or not that Westbrook, not a Laker this year.
That's what it feels like to me.
Could be wrong.
Feels like that.
