Thanks for making us part of your day.
J. Mack, so I saw this story.
Dak Prescott, his hamster.
is now pulling off the bone, which is gross, but it's not going to be four weeks.
He's going to be out a long time.
So I'm going to throw this at you.
I'm going to do two-minute opinion, and then I want you to say if this is too hot.
I think the Cowboys would be better served keeping marginally healthy players out,
a soft tank, hard to re-engine.
your Micah's high ankle sprain if he's doing a podcast.
I think there needs to be an organizational alignment to admit we're not it.
If you take the best teams in the NFC, best rosters, San Francisco, Detroit, Philadelphia.
I would argue one offensive player starts for the Cowboys, Zach Martin.
One.
AJ Brown's better than C.D. Lamb.
There's good receivers everywhere.
I don't think they have any talent.
I think they are void of talent.
Now, there's a couple things the Cowboys need to consider.
you want to root for Cam Ward and Chatur Sanders to play really, really well.
And now, Chadour, they'll be a bidding war.
There's going to be more than a few teams.
Cam Ward keeps playing well.
If you go look at the draft order right now, Cowboys draft 11th.
That's no man's land.
You've got to get up to four, five, and six.
New England, Jacksonville, and Miami, if they're ahead of you, don't need a quarterback.
So they would be sellers.
But my take is Jacksonville and Miami are going to win games.
Well, well, Trevor Lawrence.
Sounds like he's going to be out for a while.
But they're not going to draft the quarterback.
New England's not in Miami's not.
I don't think they are.
Those teams will win games.
Right now, you have three wins.
New Orleans, too, Carolina, two, Cleveland, two, Vegas, two, Giants, two.
If you look at the Cowboys, go look at the Cowboys schedule.
There are a lot of Ls on this thing.
A lot.
Philadelphia, Houston, Washington, those are Ls.
Cincinnati, Tampa, Philly, Washington.
If Dax's not playing against Cincinnati or Tampa, those are L's.
Carolina, New York, you would be favored in those games.
But if Dallas can go, five and 12, they only got three wins now,
five and 12, you are a top five team with two red hot college quarterbacks.
That's where you want to get.
Eleven, this is not a good enough draft.
I mean, Quinn Ewers maybe get drafted late first round, but we don't have a third.
quarterback. Carson Bet, as you've noted, really disappointing. Quine Uers is hurt again. Those
guys have fallen off. Riley Leonard's not a first round quarterback. So what you have is two guys
that are playing their butts off, Cam Ward should do or Sanders. It would be great if you got to
four or five and you acknowledge as a franchise. We're not close. And if you look at Detroit,
Philly, and San Francisco, forget the AFC. Cowboys have Zach Martin and a kicker. On offense and special teams,
Jack Martin and a kicker start. They're a mile away. They need to get up top five. They've got five and 12. Last year, by the way, Chargers were five and 12. Got the coach right. Went right, tackle, wide receiver, first two picks, going to battle Kansas City for the division.
So the only, the big sticking point with what you just said, which makes a lot of sense is if Jerry gives that order, McCarthy's going to look at him and say, I'm a lame duck coach. I don't have a contract and now you're,
taking my best players out so we tank for a high pick, why don't you just fire me now?
I don't want to be on the sideline if you're saying, hey, Micah, don't come back,
digs, blanche, everybody who's marginally hurt just sit out so we can get a drink.
I don't want to be here for that, so we're losing 44-10 and I look like an idiot.
Fire me now.
Okay.
You think Jerry would do that?
I think Jerry, if Mike offered that as a back Jerry into a corner, I would do it.
If it was an ultimatum, I would do it.
Well, I think it has to be if you're McCarthy, right?
Like, McCarthy doesn't want to retire.
He's still relatively young.
Yeah.
You know how bad they're going to get beat down if you pull out all their best players?
I'm not saying, I'm just saying some will play all shouldn't.
Slow play the guys back.
You're not tanking.
You don't tank in hockey or football.
You slow play guys back.
You start looking at that schedule today.
It has got mismatches.
It is loss after loss.
I mean, we thought Atlanta was the one.
one spot where they were a disaster.
Dax's now gone.
This is not one of these.
It would be hard to lose.
I look at this schedule,
and I think giants at home in Carolina
are the two you'd be favored in.
You're not beating Tampa if Baker and Mike Evans
are there.
You're not beating Tampa.
Okay, how about this?
Cooper rushed when he started last time.
Didn't he go like 4 and 0 or 4 in 1?
He had like a pretty good stretch.
Yeah, a pretty good defense.
So there's a world where at home this week,
AJ Brown doesn't play for the Eagles.
We know how limited the offense looks without A.J. Brown.
What if Cooper Rush gets some competitive, McCarthy Diles love some trick plays,
and they somehow shocked the world and take down the Eagles?
Let's wait for that to happen before we...
I mean, it's not out of the realm of possible.
I like the Eagles. I'm probably going to be on them, but...
You know, A.J. Brown is big.
And then, you know, C.D. Lamb has a big game coming off the injury.
I mean, taking A.J. Brown out of this Eagles team, the way they're playing.
You're taking off the salad fork from a...
great meal. Nobody's going to notice.
A.G. Brow, come on. No, I mean, he's great,
but Devante, Goddard's
coming back, Sequin Barclay, Jalen Hurts
playing well, O-Line's healthy, they're going to roll.
Did Philadelphia have a problem getting worked up for Dallas?
They're going to roll. I largely agree.
I like your strategy.
It's, you know, it's disappointing you
didn't consult me, J&C, consulting on that.
But, yeah, I think it's a good one.
All right, Greg CoSeller, a guy on Thursdays,
45 years NFL films.
He had to listen to that nine.
sense.
Okay.
I think I maybe know the answer.
It happens infrequently with the salary cap where you just get a perfect group of players.
And I watched the Lions last week, and even against Green Bay in sloppy weather, it looked
like Big Brother, Little Brother.
I'm going to ask you, why is their rush offense so effective?
I think a lot of it's just personnel.
But is there a scheme or a schematic reason why?
I mean, they just, that game with Green Bay wasn't even as close as the score.
What is it about that O line in the rush game?
Yeah, Colin, I don't think quite frankly there's a lot of mystery when teams run the ball really well.
But I think the O line, and it's funny you mentioned that because I really looked at it this week in detail
because I did a piece on Gibbs and Montgomery.
And you see certain blocks that offensive line coaches always talk about.
backside cutoff blocks, front side reach blocks.
Frank Ragnow, the center, who is playing with, I guess, a toe injury that's inoperable,
is so good at front side reach blocks in their zone run game.
They're a high percentage zone run team with both David Montgomery and Jemir Gibbs,
and their O line is so good at the little nuances and the little details of run blocking in the zone run game.
And Montgomery, you know, obviously Gibbs is the explosive back, the one who can take it to the house any time as we've seen.
But Montgomery is a little laterally quicker than he's given credit for, and he's a really strong finisher.
So he always gets the hard yards.
Just like Gibbs, while you wouldn't view him as a naturally powerful runner, he gets tougher yards as well, even though he's the more explosive one.
But I think the O line is really, really good.
and keep one thing in mind, and I think this plays into their passing game,
they put the quarterback Jared Goff, under center.
They play under center as much or more than any offense in the league,
and I've always believed that that helps both your run game
and your play-action pass game.
So I said earlier today, Greg,
there is a difference between rushing to judgment
and identifying the truth.
Three games in to C.J. Stroud's career, I said he's better than
Rice Young. He's bigger, he stronger. He's more accurate.
Five games into Herbert, Tua, I said, I like the bigger, stronger, more mobile, athletic, bigger
arm kid, Tua, or Herbert. I don't think that was rushing to judgment. I think it's born out
that most GMs would take Herbert and C.J. Stroud. Jaden Daniels, Caleb Williams. I don't think
I'm rushing to judgment to say that the issues with Caleb are surfacing, resurfacing in the NFL, accuracy,
And right now, when I watch those two in the pocket, I think Jaden has an easier, more effortless distribution.
He's more accurate.
He's more comfortable.
Some of it's coaching.
But I don't think I'm rushing to judgment saying my guess is going forward.
Jaden is always going to be in most years just a more accurate pocket passer than Caleb Williams.
Or is that a rush to judgment?
What does the film say?
I mean, I think up to this point in time, what you said is true.
I would just be careful about making that a definitive judgment about their careers.
You know, the coaching part is always hard for me, Colin, because we're not there.
So we don't know.
Sometimes guys can be coached perfectly, and they don't necessarily do it when they get in the game.
So we don't know the answer to that specifically.
But a couple of points that I agree with you 100%.
I think that Daniels is just a naturally more comfortable player in the pocket.
Yes.
And he's a really accurate thrower, and particularly deep balls.
He throws the deep ball really, really well.
It just looks easy.
Caleb Williams, and you and I have discussed this, he's obviously a great thrower just as a natural
thrower of the football.
It comes out really, really well.
But I would say at this point that in the pocket, he's not overly comfortable.
He's a little quick to move.
Sometimes he creates his own pressure by how he moves.
The O-line has been very up and down, but he's certainly not at the point in his career,
and you never know if this will happen.
He's certainly not at the point in his career where he can compensate for or camouflage for some O-line concerns,
so in some ways he makes them worse.
So, you know, it's hard to make a definitive statement right now,
because Williams is very gifted, but right now there's no question.
watch the tape, you just see a better, more comfortable player when you watch Jaden Daniels.
So you were one of the people that you pushed back on Russell Wilson from the very beginning,
even in his prime. You said it looks like planned chaos or planned scrambling, and that you didn't
love him as a pocket quarterback. Of course, as a Seattle kid, I was all in. I'm all rainbows,
birds, turp, and pot of gold. But it's interesting to watch him in Pittsburgh, like Seattle,
strong running back, good defense, defensive culture, throws a pretty mid to deep ball, nice, soft landing spot.
I am feeling like I'm seeing a little bit of the Seattle Russ, not turning it over, nice over the top throws, doesn't dissect the middle of the field particularly well.
And I think with this defense, like Seattle, I think you can win a lot of games in Pittsburgh.
How much past his prime is it?
Do you see a little Russ Seattle when you watch him here with this lineup and this run game and this defensive culture?
Yeah, that's exactly what I see.
And I think you're seeing that because that's who Russell Wilson is.
And people in the league know that.
And they've known that for years.
So I think when you have Russell Wilson as your quarterback, that's the way your offense has to be.
I mean, in the two games he started, Najee Harris has had 19 plus carries over 100 yards in each game.
Their O line, while not great, is good.
They obviously traded for Mike Williams now.
Another player, if healthy, gives you a vertical dimension.
So now they have a number of vertical dimensions on their roster with Williams, Pickins.
Austin is a track guy who can run.
So he's a vertical dimension as well.
So Friermouth is a really good tight end who can work the middle of the field.
But what have they done with Russ?
When you watch the tape, what do you see?
You see boot action, play action boot.
You see vertical throws down the field.
You're 100% right.
He's not a true drop-back passer who's going to work the middle of the field and throw in windows.
That's not his game.
So you play to what your quarterback is.
That's what the good teams do.
And that's what the Steelers.
That's the formula.
That's the profile because that's who Russell Wilson is.
You know, I said this with Jordan Schultz, our last guess.
It's not a criticism.
it is a reality
that I think Jalen hurts when he
throws 26 times, runs
8, that's his game.
I think you get him to mid-30 throws.
And that's not. Listen,
there's about three guys in the planet.
I want to throw 38 times.
You know, I mean, seriously,
Mahomes, Stafford with protection.
And so when I watch
Philadelphia, what my
eyes are telling me, Greg,
offensively, they have defined
what they have defined
what they
want from Jalen Hertz.
And his turnovers have
disappeared. Is that they're playing,
they're like they've defined a role.
This is the number of throws, rushes.
And it's almost like you talk about all the time
when you define reeds for quarterbacks.
It's almost like they've devised.
These are the boxes we want to check
with them. Let's not force
them into 39 throws. That's what I'm
seeing with them. It's a much more
efficient, stable, reliable
offense. What's the film say?
Just what you said.
In fact, you could almost argue they're the Seattle offense as well.
But, you know, I've always said when you watch film of a team
and how they use their quarterback, how they deploy their quarterback,
they're telling you what they think of the quarterback and the offense.
You don't have to figure that out.
So you're 100% right, Colin, you nailed it.
They're telling you, their offensive coaching staff is telling you what Jalen Hertz is.
This is what they want their offense to look at.
But by percentage, Barclay has had the highest number of first down runs of any running back in the league.
So that tells you what they want to do with their offense.
It starts with Barclay.
So right now, Hertz, he's a very good deep ball thrower.
Yes.
Last week, he had a 46-yarder to Smith, which is exactly what they want their offense to look like, Colin.
They lined up with three tight ends, 13 personnel, when play action, max protect,
with seven, and Devante Smith ran a great route, and Hertz can make those downfield throws.
And he can always make a couple of really, really good throws in every game, which he does,
but you're 100% right. They've defined in their mind being with him every day, because you and I are
not. They've defined being with him every day what he is, and they do not want him dropping back 35-plus
times. And keep in mind, he's still a really strong runner. There's no question that defensive
of coordinators have to game plan for him as a runner, both by design and the scrambling element.
And in the last four games, he hasn't turned the ball over once.
So that can't be overstated.
When your quarterback's not turning the ball over and you can run the ball really well,
and by the way, their defense is playing much, much better, then you can win games.
So I find the Chiefs, this may be repetitive to you.
They are so good in high leverage moments.
They are so good on third down.
Yes, they are.
It's just, and they're still trying to figure out what the heck to do with Worthy.
He stepped out of bounds one play.
He didn't have a lot of field awareness yet.
That was bad.
Yeah, it was really bad.
They're using backup running backs.
They're like a chef trying to figure the dish out, and they keep tasting it,
and they're like, no, it's not there, it's not there.
Yet they're unbelievable on third down.
Is that just Andy Reed, Mahal?
What is it?
Well, that's a combination, I think, of Scheme and Mahomes,
which is normally the case when you have a really good quarterback.
It becomes scheme and the player because the player is capable of doing special things.
But in a lot of these high leverage critical situations that you mention,
they do a really, really good job of how they scheme receivers.
I mean, they hit, I think the last touchdown to Hopkins, which was third down,
which was a sland from just a few yards out, maybe six yards out.
It was just a really well-schemed simple concept in which they dictated a one-on-one,
matchup with Hopkins against essentially a backup corner, Hayes, who is starting only because
they have injuries. But they're really good at doing that. And I started to see in this game this
past week, I started to see some more of their concepts really show up and take effect. But,
you know, it's funny. They haven't really been rhythmic the way we think of rhythmic. And certainly
going back a couple of years where it seemed like they hit big plays every week down the
field. They're not really hitting those, but they do a really good job on third down.
And that's Mahomes, and that's the schematics of it. And if they can be over 53% on third down,
Colin, they're going to win a lot of games.
Yeah. I want to finish with a player that we both love, but you see so much tape on him.
What is Matt Stafford of the Rams? They face the dolphins this week in a really fun game.
What is his most under, we know his arms great, we know the arm angles, we know he's a
bright kid. He's seen every defense in the league. What is his most underrated quality?
I would say pocket toughness. I would say that in this league, to me, okay, and some might think
I'm old school because the way the game has changed, and there's no question that athletic
movement quarterbacks are far more of a factor in NFL football than they've ever been.
But I think pretty much every coach would agree, Colin, that in order to be a great quarterback,
and you know me, I don't use that word loosely,
and I think Stafford is a great quarterback.
You have to be able to make throws from the pocket
when there's people around you.
That's just part of playing quarterback in the NFL
that's different from the college game.
And I think that Stafford, throughout his career,
you know, after his first two years in the league
and when everybody thought he was brittle,
he doesn't miss, he's hardly missed many games at all,
and he is so tough in the pocket.
Yeah.
And that, to me, has really stood out about him.
ability to stand and deliver.
You know, people get so caught up in what pressure is.
Pressure in the NFL, you have to see the plays to know what pressure is.
That's not a metric.
You can't just say, well, there's a defender within a yard or two.
That's pressure.
Sometimes it is.
Sometimes it isn't.
You know, you've got to see those plays, and he's just so good.
And, you know, their defense, we could get into that.
Maybe next week we'll talk Rams defense because we'll see how they do this week.
But they've made some major changes there that have really been.
fascinating to watch. But if you want to go to the play from this week, because I chose this play,
and again, I didn't know you necessarily, you're going to ask me about that particular quality,
but this really shows exactly what we're talking about with Matthew Stafford. This was a completion
last week against Seattle when he hit the Marcus Robinson. By the way, he's been a very good player
for them. So now we're going to see here, we're going to see that Stafford here he's under center.
Now, one thing about the Rams, and this has become a trend in the league, and that's 2-2 Atwell,
is they use motion as much or more than any team in the league, and that's become a big, big trend in the league.
So what you're going to see here is you're going to see Atwell, who when he's in the game,
he's their motion receiver.
So he motions across the formation.
The coverage is a little murky right now.
You don't know, but it ends up becoming man-to-man coverage.
And you're going to see that with all the match-ups across the board.
You're going to have five matchups in man-to-man coverage.
And the last one we show is the linebacker on the back, Kyron Williams.
So what do the Seahawks do here?
They're going to Blitz.
They're going to rush the other linebacker Ernest Jones, a former ram, by the way.
So he's going to Blitz here.
Now, Williams becomes really important because this is actually play action, but he sees the Blitz.
So what does he do?
He abandons the play fake.
This is just really smart football.
But now there's something called a green dog, Colin.
that linebacker, Terrell Dotson, who was responsible for Williams in coverage, he now adds into the pressure.
But I just want you to be aware of DeMarcus Robinson here.
He's going to catch the ball, as we know.
But the pressure now is going to come from Dotson because there's no one to account for him.
You can see that he's clean.
He's what we call a free hitter.
There's no one who can block him because Williams has picked up Jones, who was an actual called Blitzer.
So again, just keep in mind that Robinson now is running across.
route and he's going to run into space. It's man coverage, but he's going to run into space.
He beats Witherspoon across the field. So just watch Stafford here. You're going to see a much
better angle from behind Stafford that we're going to look at now. But this throw, this is not
a routine throw call. And this is NFL quarterbacking. You've got to be able to make throws like
this in the NFL. I mean, yeah, that's about as big time as it gets. And that's what Stafford
has done throughout his career, and he just is so good in the pocket and making throws like that.
You talk to coaches, which I do. They'll tell you that he's the best quarterback in the NFC.
Yeah, I don't doubt it. I've said this before.
Yeah.
He was a better high school college quarterback than Aaron Rogers. He was better the first four years in the league.
If Stafford goes to Green Bay and Aaron goes to Detroit, I think Stafford would be,
I think he'd be in that sort of elevated Mahomes, Brady, because you would have had continuity.
excellent coach. I think Stafford is the most underrated player in the league probably in a decade
because of where he went initially to a poorly run franchise for a decade.
And you could be right. Yeah.
For a guy like myself who watches tape and talks to coaches, he is so highly respected because of
the way in which he plays the game.
Greg Kosell, 45 years NFL films as always on a Thursday. Thanks, Greg.
Thanks, Colin. Appreciate it.
You bet. And that's not a shot at Aaron, but Aaron, I mean, high school, he was number one in the country.
college number one in the country first four years in detroit very good and just over time the chaos
with detroit cheap owners bad coaching it was a mess and so you we kind of just forget about it the
minute he goes back like at georgia and gets really good players around him you're like oh wow he's just
that throw if you can't watch it on radio obviously that throw is so hard and it's just that's what he does

I'm down to talk about crack on day
but just so y'all know
I mean at this point Mark this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack so I'm starting to see
there's a through line
We also have AIDS on the table right now
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me,
it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Welcome back.
Jordan Schultz money today.
Greg Kosell made us smarter.
Greg Olson, last hour coming up, J. Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, they call me Money McIntyre.
Not Money Maywood.
Money McIntyre.
You have had seven straight winning weeks on our big bet segment coming up.
I've had two, I've had three or four winning weeks.
You have been on a two-month heater in our Big Ten bets.
I love my bets this week.
I'm in trouble this week.
But let's get to the NFL calling because we've got to talk about the Jets who kind of have fallen off the face of the earth this week with this show.
Almost no mentions, but Aaron Rogers.
Oh, we love Aaron Rogers, Colin.
So the Jets haven't lived up to expectations with Rogers healthy.
Sala was fired, and next man up is Joe Douglas, who spoke about his future yesterday.
Obviously, it starts with me, you know, so I can look back, and there's quite a few things that I could have done better,
obviously, when the situation happens, like happened four weeks ago.
You have a lot of self-affective moments on the things that you could have.
done better to keep that from happening.
Yeah, well, he, I like Joe.
I think this roster has good players.
Joe Douglas, because he whiffed on a quarterback and a left tackle,
and those are the two positions you can't whiff on,
is easy to beat up on.
I actually think he's actually really good at his job.
I did not like Zach Wilson.
I've said it a hundred times.
What about Mikey Beckton?
You like him?
I thought he was, he had weight issues in college.
he was 375.
But remember, they needed a quarterback.
It was the COVID year, so a lot of smart executives got fooled by the COVID year.
Trey Lance went to John Lynch.
He got fooled too.
The COVID year, guys didn't play as many games.
They came in.
So I kind of give him a Zach Wilson pass.
But I think by and large, I was talking to a Jets fan yesterday, and I said, they have
seven or eight players I really like.
And I don't think Aaron's one of their top five players.
Garrett Wilson, Brees Hall, Elijah Barrett Tucker, Quinnin Williams, Sauce Gardner.
They got a better roster than the Cowboys.
Like, it's undenial.
No question.
But the knock on Douglas is, listen, you whiff on Wilson, you whiff on Bechtin.
It's rough.
Well, he's been neutered, basically.
We know that now.
Aaron Rogers is pulling the strings and Woody Johnson, too, like, I don't think Douglas has any real power.
He has no power.
Can he draft non-quarterback?
Sure.
But I'm telling you, a lot of people can.
There are a lot worse GMs in the league than Joe Douglas.
I would need to give that more thought, but what is that?
So what?
He hasn't, I mean, look at the numbers under Douglas since 2019.
Jets are 30 and 62.
That's his players, Colin?
Well, well, the big issue is when you whiff on a quarterback, you get trapped,
and then you bring in Aaron as this magic elixir to fix everything,
and that's not what Aaron is.
The savior thing doesn't work.
So there's a lot of things here.
You also have to take it under consideration, who is.
owner is. Yeah, he's a
we don't like Woody Johnson, but look at that note
from our research guy at the bottom.
The Jets under Joe Douglas have more
double-digit losses than they
do wins. So they're not even, not
just losing. They're getting blown out. More
than they're winning. And like, I get it,
Joe Douglas can draft well. Making the assistant
GM.
I'll just say this. This is why I don't like talking about
the Jets. Certain organizations,
like take the Chargers, historically,
Fouts, Drew Brees,
Philip Rivers, Justin Herbert.
So we don't always think the chargers have been brilliantly run.
They never miss on quarterbacks.
The Jets are the opposite.
They've hit on dozens of players.
They can't get the quarterback right.
So it just goes to show you the chargers remain viable.
Despite the fact they've missed on multiple coaches, they always get the quarterback right.
The Jets can't get the coach right or the quarterback right, but they've had good rosters.
So Rex Ryan was a little bit of a hit.
But I guess my point is,
It really comes down to if you get the quarterback right,
it solves, I mean, Brett Veach has missed on wide receivers.
John Lynch has had big misses in the first round on quarterbacks.
This stuff is hard.
Of course it's hard.
So I had Bruce Feldman on my podcast,
and we talked about quarterbacks in the draft after Shadur and Cam Ward.
And he made a decent case for Beck,
who has a tough schedule down the stretch.
We know Beck has not been good.
but if he's able to deliver in say the SEC title game,
there's another really big game he has.
I think it might be LSU.
Well, he's going to have several big games.
Exactly.
And if he can overcome the slow start that he's had,
he gets back in the discussion.
And there's like four or five other guys
who probably aren't first rounders,
but are like, hmm, that guy in the third
could have a lot of value.
So the Jets almost certainly would be taking a quarterback,
and we just got to move on from Aaron Rogers.
Now watch Rogers beat Arizona this weekend.
Oh, the Jets are back!
That is one of my.
My bet.
I'm not touching it.
Not with your money either.
All right.
Next story is the Atlanta Falcons.
They won five of six.
Lead this NFC South at six and three.
We saw a number of contenders make moves to improve with the deadline,
but Atlanta chose to stand back.
Here's Rahim Morris on the decision.
We just had a couple of discussions about things,
and obviously Terry's always grinding on the phone,
and I'm not definitely a part of all those conversations,
especially preparing for the Saints.
Those are the things you really want to be concerned with.
But, no.
So, you know, man, we feel really good about the guys we got.
So it's feeling really good about where we're at.
You know, there was a courageous American sportscaster when the world was crapping on the Falcons,
drafting Michael Pennix after acquiring Kirk Cousins.
And one sportscaster in a rainstorm was a glee of sunshine who said,
I like the Falcons to win 12 games.
Cousins is a brilliant pickup.
Do you recall who that American sportscaster,
some call him the honesty broker.
Oh, gosh.
Oh, gosh.
All right, so you're right.
They got Pennix.
You loved it.
The reason they're six or three has nothing to do with Michael Pennix.
Now, they could have gotten the draft.
Let's look at some guys who were right after Pennix.
Rookies midway through the season.
Yeah, but let's do that.
Roma Dunzee, nothing special yet.
He's kind of buried.
J.J. McCarthy hurt.
The lineman from Penn State to the Jets.
He's been okay.
Bohnicks.
They're not taking him.
Brock Bowers.
He would look good.
catching passes from Kirk Cousins.
Then Latu from the Colts.
He's been pretty good off the edge.
And they sure as hell could use him in Atlanta, which is second Alaska.
Well, they got Matt Judon, so they got somebody.
Byron Murphy, the defensive tackle who's shown well for Seattle.
Not healthy.
He's not healthy, but when he's playing, Dallas Turner, not much.
Jared Verst of the Rams?
Monster.
Oh, my gosh.
What a whiff by the Falcons.
Can you imagine Jared Verst opposite Judon?
Come on.
Colin, they can't pressure anybody.
Can you imagine Michael Pennix is a rookie.
playing and have two wins.
Wait, he's not. He's sitting on the bed. That's right,
because they went and acquired Kirk Cousins.
We're going to relitigate this again, aren't we?
Oh, Brian Thomas Jr. for Jacksonville,
dominating. He's good.
Yeah, big width. Chop Robinson for the Dolphins.
It's very easy when a draft is over to go.
Jared Burst. I heard all these people before the draft banging on the Rams,
like he's a one move guy. He didn't have a lot of moves.
You can't stay in front of the dude. He's a monster.
Utterly dominant in college.
By the way, the Rams last couple years,
hit on all their defensive draft picks.
They're like eight for eight.
All of the guys that...
They got an undrafted guy at safety from Tennessee's got four picks.
So listen, if the Chargers won't let us, us, not just you, us in the war room, maybe
the Rams will let us in.
The Rams will let me in the war room.
Old three-point gunner out there on his phone.
All right.
Jay McClain.
Whoa.
We got one more.
Okay.
You got something pressing, obviously.
No, go.
A big matchup in the AFC North tonight, Thursday night football.
Bengals, Ravens, T. Higgins listed as doubtful.
Everybody in their mom says he's not going to play.
Does that do anything for you?
No T. Higgins?
I think the side is Cincinnati.
Joe Burrow is a very good underdog quarterback.
He is a tremendous quarterback getting three or more as an underdog.
Burrow is the side here.
Did you have that number?
Dang, I thought I was going to surprise you with it.
Joe Burrow getting three or more is 16 and 3 against a spread.
He's very good.
And it's a divisional.
Mike Tom.
Mike Tomlin is an underdog coach.
Joe Burrow is an underdog quarterback.
Just bet them.
You'll win some, you'll lose some.
But Joe is a great.
And he's also a very good road underdog quarterback.
Very good.
Four and O this year, I believe.
It's terrible.
Let's be real.
It's not good.
Jay Mackle of the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

Friday night on Fox, one of college football's breakout stars.
Running back, Caleb Johnson leads the Iowa Hawkeyes into the Rose Bowl for a showdown
against UCLA.
It all kicks off tomorrow at 9 Eastern, 6 Pacific on Fox.
All right, seven weeks in a row for J-Mac, three out of four weeks for me.
We do our big bets, and here we go on a Thursday.
It's time for big bets.
Colin and Jemak make their favorite big 10 bets of the week.
Okay, I like Iowa tomorrow to beat UCLA.
Caleb Johnson's second leading rusher, they'll control the ball.
This Iowa team is scoring points.
They're always a good defense, excellent special teams with Kirk Farrants.
This team is ball control.
UCLA's offense struggles.
And I also think UCLA,
They probably played their game of the year last week.
I thought they played as bad as well as UCLA can.
I think they get humbled.
I think this is the most reliable Iowa offense in a while.
This running back, he's the real deal.
I think they win by a touchdown.
They play keepaway from UCLA's hot and cold, often cold offense.
Yeah, I don't hate that.
Let's start with Ohio State Purdue.
I went under 53.5.
College football is way more week-to-week than the NFL.
Ohio State, game of the month or whatever, against Penn State, I think we'll see a little regression.
They'll dial back the aggressiveness.
Maybe this is a 35-10 and it stays under 53 and a half.
Purdue is an absolute train wreck.
Just a terrible football team this year.
Okay, I don't like big numbers in pro football.
I do in college.
I like Oregon to win and blow out Maryland.
These programs are going in totally different directions.
Oregon's getting better every week.
Maryland's getting worse.
Oregon is the best home team in the first.
the country. Better than Georgia and Texas. They're a great home team beat Ohio State.
Maryland's the third worst scoring defense in the Big Ten. All of their losses have been blowouts.
Maryland to me, and by the way, Oregon in Big Ten play, they are built for it. This is a physical
team. Teams in the Big Ten, ask the Buckeyes. You go to Hudson Stadium. This is the loudest
stadium, in my opinion, in the country. I think if you've never been there before,
you have no idea what you're in for
and I think Oregon
lay the 24 and a half points
I think they're rolling and getting better by the week
I miss that one that's a good
that's a good pick Oregon in a destruction
I'm going risky
Indiana favored by two touchdowns
against the defending champs Michigan
this is just a brutal stretch for the Wolverines
two weeks ago they hosted Michigan State
real tough rivalry game
then last week of course hosted number one
Oregon they got destroyed
and then now you got to go on
the road to face Indiana. So I alluded to
quarterbacks earlier. This kid Rourke for
Indiana transfer. He's 24 years old.
This guy knows how to sling it. Indiana
is doing some things, man. They are real.
They have a lot of transfers. They went through
the portal heavily. I know 14
is a lot to lay. I'm telling you,
I've got in front of Indiana twice, and it's cost me
money. I'm not doing it again. Give me the Hoosiers
covering 14. I'm going to take the
over 46 points, Washington at Penn State.
Do you know that James Franklin's
28 and 1 against everybody?
but Michigan and Ohio State.
They roll to a lot of big wins.
Washington's defense gave up almost
475 yards to the USC.
USC just couldn't in the red zone
push it through. So USC
moved the ball very well. I don't love the
Husky secondary. I think
Washington is capable enough to score
some points, but I'm betting on Penn
State. In a game in which
I think they're really disappointed
how they played against Ohio
State. I don't think they
played as well as they can. I don't
think they're as good as Ohio State, but I think
this is the over 46 points here.
So this is tricky. I did lay it with Penn State
13 and a half. You don't make money
long-term betting double-digit favorites. However,
again, this is kind of a guess on my part, but what do you
think the fallout was for that Penn State loss?
We heard a lot of negativity about Franklin.
All this team chokes in big games.
Do they rally around that and galvanize and be like,
we're going to destroy this Washington team?
By the way, Washington, I know, travel is a lot for college kids.
We haven't seen cross-country a lot.
They went to at Rutgers lost, at Iowa lost, at Indiana lost.
And now you've got to go back across the country.
That's a lot of travel for a college.
When they went to Rutgers, they were a mistake-filled mess.
I think these kids traveled.
Same thing with Iowa.
Yeah.
It's too much to travel for kids.
And I just think Penn State kind of, you know, not win one for the Gipper,
but embattled Franklin and they win like 27 to 8 or whatever the score is.
So I laid it with Penn State.
Two big favorites.
We both like Penn State to roll.
big.
Iowa's that running back?
He's good. Oh no, he's a real good player.
What we're seeing in college and pro is the best
teams are starting to separate
late in the season. And that's why I went
favorites last week, and that's why I like
some more favorites. Okay, by the way, I watched
the second half of the Celtics Warriors
game last night. We were talking about this.
Is that when you get D-Hop
from an organization
that's a bit of a mess and you put them in Kansas
City, it is unbelievable
how good he immediately gets.
When you take Amari Cooper, kind of a mess in Cleveland, and you put him in Buffalo,
and you're like, wow, look how good he is.
So very interesting, Buddy Healed, and he just bounced around the league.
They bring him into this excellent culture with the Warriors.
Have you watched him?
He's having an unbelievable year.
Steph Curry and Buddy Healed, the number one net rating combo in the league.
Now, they're 7 and 1.
They're playing 12 players, but it is interesting.
Curry was great last night.
You know, he was Steph Curry.
It was funny because I kept thinking Boston was going to come back and win this game.
I'm like, there's no way.
But it didn't have Jalen Brown.
But it's interesting.
Buddy Healed, bounce around the league guy, nice guy, grown up, mature.
You put him in this culture with Steve Kerr, Steph Curry.
He has been hugely important.
It goes back to something we say all the time, is that most of these athletes are young kids.
They're in their 20s or early 30s.
where you let them land.
It's Lamar Jackson and Baltimore,
Joe Burrow and Cheap Cincinnati.
It is amazing how often we blame the player,
and he's just in a bad spot with a bad GM
and a bad coach and an impulsive owner.
It's great to see Buddy healed.
Now with Steph Curry cooking.
Good guy, always been able to fill it up.
But they are right now, they are, isn't that funny?
They are the number one combo net rating the league.
So, Steph and Buddy,
on the floor at the same time. Colin, I didn't know this. Buddy Heald is shooting 50% on nine three-point
attempts a game. They're playing 13 players double-digit minutes a night. Now, and I know they're
blasting folks, but Steve Kerr's doing a smart thing, whereas you see Reddick is playing LeBron
in AD 39 minutes a game. Curry's averaging 27 minutes a game. He played 34 last night, but he's not,
yeah, they've really spread it out. It was a fun game. It was a fun second half. NBA in November?
I know, but I feel the excitement.
