This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.

Ah, here we go. Hour 2, live in L.A. It's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be listening,
IHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio, FS-1. So the breaking story with Joy Taylor, Jeff Darlington,
good NFL reporter for a long time. He just spoke to Debo, Samuel, of the Niners, and Debo said,
I want the Niners to trade me. The Niners have been looking to make offers for a long-term deal with
Debo, but he's unwilling, unwilling to engage. You know, it's interesting about this.
So a lot of pro athletes don't grow up with money.
Some do because, you know, somebody in their family,
Steph Curry's dad was an NBA player.
So Steph Curry grew up with some money, obviously.
And you see that.
You know, Clay Thompson's dad was Michael Thompson.
Michael Zoh was, you know, did well.
He grew up with money.
It seems to me Patrick Mahomes' father was a pro athlete.
So, you know, he probably had some money around the house.
Is that, and by the way, Steph Curry has not always taken the most money.
my homes has no was taking the most money.
Peyton Manning's, you know, family grew up with some money.
And so a lot of times I feel like I don't like to ever tell somebody who didn't grow
money.
I don't know Debo Samuel's background, but a lot of pro athletes, a lot of them, probably 90%
didn't grow up a lot of money.
So who am I to tell somebody?
I mean, my dad was a small town doctor.
My mom worked at the school.
I never thought about anything about money, right?
So maybe Debo is just like, hey, man, this is my opportunity in life.
I want the most money.
I'm not going to tell people, like wide receivers especially.
And the way Debo plays especially.
I mean, he plays physical football.
Like this is not a 12-year career.
So let's start with that premise.
I don't know your background.
What does money mean to you?
Is it important?
Did you ever have it?
You know, I don't know those dynamics.
And also, I said this last week.
If I'm a receiver, I'm going to mostly take the money.
Like Tyreek Hill, go take the money.
Okay?
I get it.
Quarterbacks and coaches' legacies are really connected to winning Super Bowls and championships.
But I do think we also have situations where a coach can elevate you.
I mean, Sean Payton took Drew Brees from a nobody to a Hall of Famer.
I mean, Drew Brees, the Dolphins doctors can't play here.
He's a Hall of Famer now.
You're making, you know, 10, 20 million a year being an ounce or whatever.
Mahomes, what if he ends up with a defensive coach?
Look at Jared Goff's career with Jeff Fisher than Sean McFay.
I mean, look at that contract.
He was going to be out of the league.
and then he got a zillion dollar contract.
So there are situations where a coach is a really good fit for you.
I mean, Kyle Shanan's ability, you turn six-round running backs into stars, there you go.
And we also know Belichick has a history of finding these odd parts that don't work anywhere else,
and they work on his defense.
So you have to weigh all this stuff.
What does money mean to me?
What's my style of play?
Like here's where I, here's where Debo Samuel, I think, understands this.
Dude, I've been hurt.
I am physical.
This offense leans into my physicality, not away from it.
I got to get money.
Kyler Murray.
I've been hurting back to back years.
I'm small.
I run around.
I'm not really a true pocket guy.
I want my money.
Like, I get that dynamic.
But it has to be considered along with this.
I think Debo's with a perfect football coach.
And the Niners have offered him.
deal. The Niners are saying, no, we get your value. Here's money. Debo's like, now I want more.
So this is not the Niners not getting him or not committed to him. They are. Now,
there's points. Again, Joey and I talked about this either today or yesterday. If you want to be
top of the market like Aaron Rogers, you got to have to make sacrifices. You're going to have
to make, like Russell Wilson and Seattle got expensive. Your offensive lines bad. Aaron Rogers,
top of the market, doesn't have a number one receiver. Mahalms, team friend.
deal. Well, they're just signing people left and right. You know, so Matt Stafford,
team friendly deal. Well, they go out and get Bobby Wagner. They were considering that Honey Badger.
So these are all decisions. It's very complex. It's not just as easy as to say, what are you doing?
He's been beat up. He's missed games. He's very physical. He's not a 15-year career guy. And they
lean into his physicality. That offense leans into his physicality. And he probably are sitting there thinking,
And I think Kyler Murray is doing the same thing.
I'm not a 20-year guy.
I am not a 20-year guy.
I want my money.
And I think in Kyler's case, you pay him.
I think you pay Kyler.
In Debo's case, I said this.
I lose sleep.
But I don't know if I could because George Kittle is also great, and he gets banged up a lot.
He's also a wildly physical player.
So my two offensive go-to guys are both physical and they get beat up a lot.
the Rams star players don't.
Cooper Cup's not hurt.
Stafford's not hurt.
Donald's not hurt.
Ramsey's not hurt.
Bobby Wagner's not hurt.
Andrew Whitworth, formerly never hurt.
So the division rival, their guys never get hurt.
My guy, Garoppolo got hurt, Kittle got hurt, and I got to pay Dbo a ton, and his style
is not going to wear a whirl over time.
So I think this is a very complex situation.
I don't think it's as easy as saying pay him or don't pay him.
I talked to Bill Polly in the Hall of Fame.
fame front office guy a couple days ago, and he said, I'd pay him and I'd draft a lot of defense
in the draft so I could get really cheap on defense. He goes, this is the guy you lose sleepover.
There's not a lot of duplication in the league with Debo Samuel.
But in fairness, the Niners have offered him a contract. They're not lowball on him here,
but they probably don't want to pay him top of the market. Now, as Joy and I have said,
had they moved off Garoppolo two months ago, which I still think they should have, that clears
up some money from Debo. I think they should move off Garoppolo. Listen, if you drafted the wrong guy
in Trey Lance, that's a you problem, but you got to find out. You can't be taking snaps from
Tray Lance. You can't. I mean, you moved all those picks around and move up in the draft to get him.
You got to play him. So I would, if it was up to me, I would consider moving Debo, but I would see
if I could get Garapolo off the books. I would go, as Bill Pollyan told me, draft as much
defense as you can. Get as
cheap as you can on defense. You may have to move
another defensive lineman. Keep Bosa, move
everybody else. But it's
not easy.
As the world turns in the NFL,
Joy, we get every...
It's nonstop. I thought it was over in March.
It just continues.
And there's still moves to be made.
Jimmy, Baker.
You know where he really fits?
Green Bay.
Niners aren't going to trade him there.
No, there's no... And they can't afford him because of
their quarterbacks.
try and find it somewhere in the AFC to send him.
Let me think about this. You know,
ready to work? New England.
Yes. So New England can call and say, we gave you Garapolo
for nothing. He works in New England. They're not paying their
quarterback. They're not paying J.C. Jackson. They didn't pay Shaq Mason.
He works in New England. And by the way,
if I'm the Niners, they're not going to beat Buffalo. They're not getting
out of the AFC, so I don't have to see Debo Samuel again.
I'll trade them there because they're not getting past Buffalo, Kansas City.
That's where I'd call.
They probably wouldn't, they probably wouldn't send him here, but I could see them being a player as Dallas.
I'm not sending him to the NFC.
I'm going to send him to Belichick.
Well, yeah.
I mean, they're going to send, well, at this point when things are hostile, they're going to send him wherever.
They're not going to do what they're doing with Jimmy or a player who has leaned into the team and, you know, try and find the best place for him.
I would imagine they're just going to send him wherever gives them the best deal.
Let's get Chris Mannix in here.
Chris has been covering the NBA
Senior Writers Sports Illustrated
also podcast with the volume
anyway where the NFL never ends
okay so this is interesting
because you know the Celtics very well and I do
like the Nets tonight
but I said this earlier Chris
if they lose tonight statistically
7% chance of winning the series
so three years
in the Kyrie KD thing
will be two first round exits and a second
round exit
and I said if you leave a rock band
and you think you're bigger than the band
and you have three albums, two are flops
and one's a mild success.
You're not standing on top of
Olympic records like you're the hot shot.
This feels like the biggest game
K.D. Kyrie have had.
In my opinion, their biggest game.
Your thoughts?
I think that's fair.
You know, the first year you throw out
because of Durant's injury,
but last year,
Durant coming back from the injury,
was playing out of his mind,
almost single-handedly beat Milwaukee in that second round. This year, when he has not been injured,
he has played at an MVP level. If they can't get out of the first round, it would be bitterly
disappointing. And I don't think they win this series if they don't win this game tonight.
I mean, Boston, they're going to get Robert Williams back at some point. Maybe it's this series.
Maybe it's not. But defensively, they have been clicking all season long, or at least the second half of this season.
They're just going to be too tough to beat if the nets go down 02.
This is a monster game for both KD and Kyrie.
Chris, let me throw this at you because Kyrie was so good in game one.
And I mean, Kyrie is just a unique personality.
I'm not going to criticize him.
He's unique.
He drives me nuts, but he's insane.
And this series, if it goes six or seven games, even if they lose,
Kyrie will have many great games.
I do think now, as the pandemic is mostly clear,
he's movable.
We know that KD got really frustrated with James Harden
when word leaked out after he was gone.
Could you see a moment if KD is great in this series
that he goes to him and says, listen, I'll stay.
But you've got to get me somebody who's healthy, I can depend on.
Because I think KD is too proud to say this fails.
But I don't think he's too proud to say I'm over Hardin and I'm over Kyrie.
Your thoughts on that opinion?
Well, a couple things.
One, you know, Kevin gave up a lot of his leverage when he signed that extension before the season.
So he can't really bully the Nets and threaten them with anything at this point.
He's locked into Brooklyn for the remaining prime years of his career.
When it comes to trading Kyrie and look, I had this conversation with a lot of league executives
when Kyrie made the decision not to get vaccinated.
And look, why not trade him to say Philadelphia or,
another city where there wasn't a vaccine mandate in place.
The response I got back most often was you've got to trade Kyrie to a place
Kyrie absolutely wants to go to.
Because if you trade him somewhere that he doesn't necessarily choose, there is a high
degree of probability that he's going to sulk and that he could sabotage your team
just by being there.
So the market for Kyrie on paper would seem to be robust.
he's still very much in the prime of his career.
And when he's on point, he's worth every nickel of the max contract that you're paying
him.
But if he goes somewhere he doesn't want to be, there's just a mountain of evidence that shows
he's not going to be a productive member of your team.
So I think it's interesting.
So the sons and the bucks are favored to get back.
The Warriors get a lot of glare because of the Warriors.
KD. Celtics.
We're talking the heat because of their, you know, because of their seeding.
the team under the radar, which is rare because they have high profile stars to me that's fascinating is Philadelphia.
In my lifetime, I've seen dominant center, scoring guard, Kobe Shack win titles.
I've seen that my whole life.
And they have Maxi who's ascending and Tobias and Doc Rivers who works with veterans.
And it's strange, for all the hardened and ambide talk, they're a little under the radar.
and they don't, to me, when I watch them, I'm like, they don't really have a ceiling.
They don't have it jelling yet.
But are we underselling?
God, I see the heat get more love from the press than the Sixers.
Are we underselling Philly right now?
Not yet.
The Sixers have been great through two games.
But I need to see more from Philadelphia than just beating up on a Toronto team that currently is undermanned without Scotty Barnes.
Barnes and likely without Gary Trench has been ill.
Everything's working right now.
Tyrese Maxi, you mentioned, is playing out of his mind.
Tobias Harris, in the last two games,
might have been the best two games I've ever seen him play in Philadelphia.
Like, he has been as flawless as you can get on both ends of the floor.
But James Harden, while showing his skill as a facilitator, has not shot the ball well.
So I need to see them beat up on a complete team.
in the way they're beating up on Toronto right now.
That may not happen until they get to the second round and likely face Miami.
But if they do to Miami, what they've been doing to Toronto with Ambide continues to be great against
Banadabio.
If Tyrese Maxi thrives against that defense, if James Hardin finds a way to get it going,
they're as big a threat as any team to win a championship.
I just, after watching the mixed bag that was Philadelphia for the last month and a half
with the regular season, I can't get overly excited yet.
about what I've seen from the 76 years.
What do you make of Devin Booker's injury?
That hamstring has been on and off for, I think it's like years.
What do you make of it?
What are we hearing?
Well, I think, if I'm not mistaken, it's the other hamstring that he's dealing with right now.
And look, it's a serious injury because just like Luca Donchett's calf injury,
you can't rush a hamstring back because you can exacerbate it.
You can make it worse to the point where he'd miss real time.
But losing that game, too, that put Phoenix in a tough position because the Pelicans are not just kind of here for the ride.
Like, they've got real players on that team.
The C.J. McCollum trade, Colin, I've been saying for months before that trade,
that teams should have been out there trying to get C.J. McCollum.
I don't know why C.J. McCollum was so undervalued by teams leading up to the trade deadline.
No, he wasn't Damien Lillard.
But I think teams were letting, you know, what's the phrase?
Letting perfection be the obstacle to good.
Like, C.J. McCollum is a very good player.
And in what they had to give up to get him, they got a guy that helps that team.
He is a lead guard.
He is a scoring guard.
He takes pressure off everybody else on that roster, most notably Brandon Ingram.
So if Devin Booker is out for any substantial period of time or is hampered by that hamstring injury,
I think the door is wide open for New Orleans to win this series.
All right.
Chris Manick, Sports.
Illustrated, Senior writer. Good seeing you, bud. You got it, Colin. Tonight, KD, a three and a half
point dog, the Nets, a dog at Boston. I am taking the Nets tonight. The underdog Nets. Very excited.
So, Maddox brings up a good point. You know, Robert Williams for the Celtics will come back.
So if you're going to beat Boston, beat them now. Like, beat them now because Williams is their best
offender.
This is the season for Brooklyn.
Here we go.
This is it.
It's very exciting.
It's fantastic.
Just drama and conflict.
The other story, as we talked about, Jeff Darlington reporting, Debo Samuel wants out
of San Francisco.
The Rams are giggling.
They would, to me, it feels really obvious.
New England.
You did a deal with Garapolo.
The front office get along.
Belichick is very.
very respectful of Kyle and Mike Shanahan and John Lynch.
So Belichick really likes the guys in the front office.
And the guys in the front office, you know, have some reverence for Bill Belichick.
And you're not paying Mac Jones.
And you didn't pay J.C. Jackson.
And you didn't pay Jack Mason.
You got money.
So you know what you do?
Here's what you do.
You call Belichick and you say, okay, I'm going to send Debo Samuel to you.
Give us Kendrick Bourne back.
give us a receiver and give us a couple picks so we can draft a receiver.
This draft has a couple of players that fit a little bit into Debo's mold.
So give us a couple of picks and then give us one of your receivers
because they went big on free agency last year on receivers.
I just, I'm curious to know what the issue is like that's forced this situation.
Because it's not a dysfunctional organization.
No.
It doesn't seem like it's not a.
place where players enjoy playing.
So I'd like to know the backstory.
But wherever he goes,
they're going to probably get the best deal for.
Like whoever's going to give them the most picks for him.
Yeah, yeah.
So let me throw this out there.
Is that guys, this is just,
we're into our careers and money means a lot, right?
We're judged often.
The way it works in society, unfortunately,
is women are often judged by appearance and men by money.
Fair or not, that's just the way it is.
Nobody judges me in appearance.
I never walk into a room and think,
They think less of them because of my nose.
I just don't.
But I do think professional careers for guys.
So Christian Kirk signs this massive deal as a slot receiver.
And the whole market's like, whoa.
And then Tyreek Hill, five picks.
And there's a couple of these contracts out there.
And guys are like, Christian Kirk?
What?
And guys start stacking themselves up.
You know, when Tony Romo signed that $17 million a deal with CBS.
to be a football analyst.
Every single analyst in the country
that did sports and football was like,
what?
That's just the way it works with guys.
But you're also worth what the market says your worth.
That's right.
And I think Debo has some real value here.
Well, he does.
The Niners wanted to keep him.
They made an offer to him.
It's not that they weren't trying to keep him.
That's why I want to know how this all fell apart so dramatically.
I think Debo's thinking,
I'm looking at this market.
I single-handedly beat Green Bay.
a quarterback. I want to be the highest paid guy in the league. Somebody's telling him that beyond
quarterback and I can't make him. Well, I don't know if he's going to get that, but certainly the
market for wide receivers has skyrocketed. And he's not just a wide receiver. Now, you could argue
that that that's Shanahan using him in that way. So that's what I think. So I think Green Bay
But Shannon's not the only, not to diminish anything. I'm just saying there are other
Kansas City, I think,
would probably figure out a way to use him properly.
Now, could they bring him in and pay him what he wants to be paid?
Probably not.
But there are some other, you know, good coaches out there
that could probably find a way to use him.
But is he going to go to one of those organizations?
I don't know, because I think that they're probably going to try
and get the most amount of picks for him if they're going to have to trade him.
I'm going to tell you, if you ever thought about being a sportscaster,
you should give it a try because we get news
every day.
It's a new world now.
Netflix's stock is plunging.
Their subscribers are bailing.
Sports is where you want to be.
It's crazy, isn't it?
Well, you can't write this kind of drama.
Unless you're winning time.
Then you're going to get yelled out for it.

I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

USFL action
continues Friday at 8 Eastern
as the Michigan Panthers take on the New Jersey
Generals on USA.
Then Saturday at noon,
Pittsburgh battles Philadelphia on Fox
and the Birmingham Stallions take on the
Houston gamblers at 7 on FS1
and on Sunday, New Orleans
squares off against Tampa Bay on
NBC.
Man, we got a lot of stuff going on.
Hope you didn't own any Netflix stock.
Cable is the future.
that streaming stuff is going right down the tubes.
I got 38 streaming services.
I said I was done with them.
Yeah, I sort of suspected,
I think I should be more,
I should have more wealth for the,
the way I can see around the corner with this business.
You're good at that. You really are.
I just don't do anything about it.
I probably should start charging for this consultation services or something.
You really should.
I mean, when everyone was talking about cutting the cords,
like, well, where are you going to get all your content?
How do I watch college football, college basketball,
without cable?
Well, I mean, to be clear,
I have cable television
because I want to watch those things.
I also have the streaming services.
So now I just have everything.
And it's a lot.
But I don't use all of it, though.
No, I use Netflix.
Actually, that's not true.
I use most of them.
I like news, politics, sports.
I ain't getting that on Netflix.
I don't have time for politics.
Yeah.
I've exhausted my capacity for it.
Yeah.
Although we have an election coming up here.
Soon.
Do we?
Oh, midterms.
Yeah.
We're the mayor, Los Angeles.
Oh.
I'll be voting in that.
She's very strident.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
You know how to have to complain about politics and they don't vote for their local politicians.
Oh, you ever notice?
Those are the ones that actually affect your life.
Oh, no.
There's no question.
The mayor of Los Angeles?
Yeah.
I know there's a one side to vote for me that will, that has the things I
care about aligned with his
platform.
Yes.
Don't complain.
So Kyrie had a huge game won against the Celtics.
They lost.
And he also had some interactions with fans.
Yeah.
He said after the game he was just giving them back the same energy they were giving
him.
That is how we wandered into the being ballot conversation the other day.
Yeah.
The league just did decide to punish Kyrie for his actions.
They fined him $50,000 yesterday.
this isn't the first time he's been fine for getting into it with fans of a former team.
He was fine $25,000 for getting into it with Cavs fans.
You've got to find him, though.
You have to tell this is a messaging.
It's like...
Yeah, I mean, listen, did what he do offend me?
Absolutely not.
I'm sure if any of us were standing around listening to the things that were being screamed at Kyrie,
you would have probably tried to do more.
Yeah.
I don't have a problem with it.
I also am just me.
So, you know, maybe if there was a child behind you, you're a little more upset.
whatever. It's not that big of a deal. Also, if you're bringing a child to a Boston Celtics game,
eh, like, miss me with the whole, like, precious thing. You're pretty much subjecting to them
that there might hear some decorative language when they're there. But the league does have to
take some kind of measures when this happens, so I can see both sides of it. Well, they'll face the Celtics
again tonight, which we are very much looking forward to. You are going to be sober with a sandwich.
Nope. I'm going to have a gigantic sandwich. Total clarity on the television.
They're currently three and a half point underdogs, according to Fox Bet.
I'm taking the nets and the points. That's juicy.
And I'm also taking Katie to have a spicy night, 36 points.
He's going to go big. Kyrie won't be as good. Katie's going off.
Well, there are underdogs to win the series at plus 175. The Celtics are currently favorite at Myos 213.
Teams that go down 02 have a 7% chance of winning the series.
Not great.
So it doesn't feel.
that desperate because they haven't played a home game. Hey, Ben Simmons, six, seven minutes a half.
Brother. I mean, which I don't even follow that story anymore. Let me know when he's back.
I've got like so much time in a day and like me following the ups and downs of Ben Simmons possibly
coming back is not helping me be more successful at this point. But this game is going to be
I don't want to be hyperbolic. It's going to be a good one. A good one, but this has a lot of
implications. A lot. Major legacy implications here. But they are, they weren't like they came into the
postseason of seven seed. They should not be winning this series. Hey, they should have won. In reality,
when you look at how they came into the postseason, they shouldn't be favored. Like the Celtics
should be winning this series. First of all, Brooklyn had a ton of turnovers in the first quarter.
Katie played poorly. And they led with a couple, they led with 30 seconds left. They should have won the
game. So Brooklyn's ticked off. They gave one away. Tonight they take it out.
I get it because it's Katie and Kyrie, but shouldn't some pressure be on the Celtics?
No, we're just saying that they should just not be.
I maybe, but I think Brooklyn, there's a, there's legacy pressure, franchise pressure,
Steve Nashville's pressure.
He's got to coach his game of the year.
Boston's supposed to be the better team.
So AJ Green's first season with the Cardinals didn't go the way he expected,
and he acknowledged that his chemistry with Kyler Murray needs some work.
You mentioned on just working with Kyler in that first year and having a chance to come back here.
Just how do you see your relationship with him and is there room for growth to get to get better,
even though you've already spent a year together?
Yeah, I think so.
I think there's a lot of room.
I think for me it's just, you know, communicating with him what I see or, you know,
what he want me to do, how he want me to run this route.
And I think last year I was a lack on my part.
You know, I didn't really communicate with him about, you know, stuff like that because I don't want to
put a lot of stuff on his plate.
He also said it's fair to question whether he and Kyler were on the same page.
He had 54 receptions for 848 yards and three touchdowns.
In his final season with Cincinnati coming off of before the ankle injury,
he had 47 receptions for 523 yards and two touchdowns.
So it's not that he had overall a bad season for where he is at this point in his career
and sometimes, you know, expectations can inflate how well things are supposed to go.
Christian Kirk isn't there anymore.
He's in Jacksonville.
so it should give AJ a little bit more opportunity at the position,
but with the way things are going with Kyler Murray and the Cardinals,
they'll sign him.
Who knows how this is going to play out?
My question is, as always, in any of these situations,
what else are you going to do?
By the way, I just thought of a Debo take, but I'll wait to you.
There's a perfect time to talk about it.
Right, Don?
You're going to hold on to it.
I'm going to hold on to it.
I'll wait to the better time.
I just thought of a Debo take.
So the Cowboys traded Amari Cooper to the Browns this off season,
and tight end Dalton Schultz knows it will be hard,
but he thinks they'll be okay without him.
So they have CD Lamb who's going to step into the number one role.
They re-signed Michael Gallup.
They're going to draft a receiver too.
They lost Cedric Wilson to Miami,
who's way undervalued is a really good three.
Yes, but Cooper led the Cowboys wide receivers for the past three seasons.
Yeah. Great route runner, great technician.
I'm very interested to see how it works for them because he,
He is a volume guy.
He's great.
Dak's numbers are significantly better with him than without him.
And remember, Zeke's not the same as he was two years ago.
They lost their right tackle and their left tackles aging.
So it's not just Amari left.
It's Amari left.
I'll probably have less time to throw and I can't rely on Zeke.
That's a convergence of a lot of things that are not great for Dak.
The thing about the number one wide receiver,
and this is why I believe they're getting so much money right now.
and it's become, you know, the one A to the quarterback in the league is while you can get a great receiver who contributes right away in the draft,
their transformative talents like any of the other positions.
Like we knew Jamar Chase was going to have huge value.
That's why they took him instead of an offensive lineman.
Like Burrow was advocating for him.
You could see how good he was before he got there.
So it's just like any of these other receipts.
receivers. Like, there are good receivers and then there are great. There are good linemen and then there are great. And you can see that in the draft. Now, how they're going to translate to the NFL, obviously, is a jump. But if you're talking about someone who needs to contribute right away, can you always get that in the draft? Like, you can get guys that can come in and develop. No, no, no, listen, I think we said this on the air. Jamar Chase was a professional football player playing in college. Like, it was obvious. He was one of those rare. Julio Jones was like that.
like, oh, yeah, that guy's a pro. He just happens to play.
He's taking classes in college.
He's a pro in college.
You get, like, Chase Young at Ohio State.
Yes. Oh, that's a professional football player. He's just going to school.
So, you can tell he was literally better than everybody he played.
Right. So, yes, the Cowboys can draft ride receivers, but are they going to be able to come in and contribute right now at the level that Amari Cooper was?
That's a good question.
Can I get my Debo take?
That's your Debo take. Are you done now? I am done.
Okay. So Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.
I just thought of this.
So I'm trying to think, and I say this all the time,
when an athlete's going through something,
I try to think, okay, what if I was him?
So I'm Debo Samuel,
and I look at all these other receivers getting their money.
But my coach asks me
to also be a running back.
And what does that do?
It gets me hurt more.
because receivers don't get hit.
Running backs is the last position.
You can get hit from any angle anytime.
And Debo was banged out.
Remember that Niner game?
What if, now I'm not saying money doesn't matter.
But what if it's a money thing?
I want to be paid more.
But what Debo is saying is, hey, man, you use me in a way that I don't get to just run
routes.
I'm playing two positions.
I'm playing two positions.
And I'm all beat up here.
Like the other receivers don't look.
line up behind and get whacked by linebackers.
And so Debo is saying, listen, I don't, Debo is saying either you have to pay me top of the
market the way you use me or I'll take less, but get me out of the backfield because they
don't use him like any other running back.
So, you know, because I keep thinking to myself, they're offering them a contract and according
to stories, it's a lot of money.
But Debo is saying, okay, you're putting me in a space here to get crushed.
You're not asking Cooper Cup to line up in the backfield.
You're not asking DeAndre Hopkins to.
You're not asking all these other guys.
They're not asking Stefan Diggs to carry the rock out of the backfield.
You're asking me, and that is a punitive physical assignment.
So what if it's that?
It's not just, you know, everybody will say it's the money.
It's money, but hey, man, the way you use me, it ain't good for my long-term health.
I'm not going to last long.
Now, is his agent called them and say, okay, take me out of the backfield and I'll sign
a little less. But if you're going to use me
like that, I know I'm not going to last
in this league. Because I mean, they use
him. He's a hybrid
player. I mean, even looking at Tyreek
Hill's numbers. Running backs do not last
in this league. And they're asking him to be a running
back 30% of the time. Debo had
365 rushing yards
last season. Tarreek had
96. And we think
of Tyreek as a jet sweep guy and running around
guy. Yeah, it's very dynamic. He does
multiple things. Let's say this.
In any job in America, my stepdad was a utility foreman.
So he would go out during storms and climb telephone poles.
He once got hit, you know, got hit by lightning once.
So, I mean, that was his job.
So as he aged, he didn't want to get hit by lightning anymore.
So, you know, as the age, he wanted to go a little to the front office part of the job, a little bit less.
And so his whole takeaway was if you're going to keep asking me to do this, then I want this, right?
Like, okay, I want my union dues paid for.
So anytime you ask anybody in America, okay, I want you to add this to your job,
especially if it's a job that physically you're lifting, you're pulling, you're pushing.
Well, any union, anybody in any union would be like, okay, you're asking me as a longshoreman
to do something that is really, really physically dangerous.
I want a different union protection.
So what Debo is saying is you're asking me to do a position that literally in the NFL you don't get a second contract for.
That's like 30% of my job.
So pay me top of the market.
Or get me out of that and I'll take a little less.
Like I could see him doing that.
I'm speculating on this, but I can see that.
Yeah.
I mean, I think that that's perfectly fair.
But again, if he does go somewhere else, is he going to be used the way that they use him in San Francisco?
Well, here's my take.
After you watch the way San Francisco uses them, you're going to try it.
Yes.
You can say, I like, I mean, Belichick's going to say, I kind of like, right?
Yeah.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack,
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Listen, the Kansas City Chiefs moved off Tyreek Hill because they trust their GM and scouting
department.
San Francisco, if they trust their scouts and their scouting department and their GM,
you move Debo, Samuel to a team like the Jets, by the way.
The Jets are classic.
They'll overpay.
They won't know how to use them as well.
But in the end, the Jets could be a good trading partner because they have a coach who's
on the hot seat.
Robert Sala had a disastrous for his year.
Zach Wilson needs as many weapons as he.
can possibly get to compete now with Miami in that division and Buffalo?
I mean, if you're the Jets and I'm Robert Sala, I look at what Miami did this offseason
and what Buffalo's become, and I'm not as good a coach as Belichick, Jets are dead last right
now in that division.
They don't have an elite coach, an elite quarterback, an elite roster.
Go get Debo Samuel.
Give me your first pick.
I mean, if I'm, what are the Jets pick?
Jets got a top 10 pick.
I'll trade him, but I want your pick.
Okay, they got four and ten.
Jets have a four and a ten.
Jets don't want both those picks anyway.
Give me your four.
And that's a great deal.
If I'm the Jets and I'm the Niners.
Jets don't want both those picks.
Most teams don't want two picks early, right?
Because it's not a great draft.
The Niners are like, okay, we give up Debo,
but this draft has good offensive linemen and good receivers.
And go get your receiver.
Maybe you take the 10, not the four.
But I think the Jets are, the Jets are, when you're going to have to give it more than that.
Well, I'm saying you got to give it.
I mean, they don't have any good players I'd want.
So I'd want, give me two firsts.
I mean, Tyreek got five.
Give me a first and a second next year.
But for Debo, my takeaway is, if I get rid of Debo, Samuel, is he worth a first round pick?
In today's market, what Tyreek got, absolutely.
I'm saying with what Tyreek got.
And DeBonte Adams.
So I'd take a first and a second.
Now, you may not get this year's second, but maybe you give me a first,
maybe you give me a first, a fourth, and next year's second.
Well, I get more picks.
Because San Francisco without Debo is not the same team, but they're still really good.
Of course.
They're very, and by the way, they're very good.
They're better than Green Bay today.
They're better than Dallas.
They're better than Philadelphia.
They're not as good as the Rams.
Well, they're going to have.
This isn't matter anymore.
He wants out.
And the Jets have to.
The Jets, the bills are the best team in their division.
And Miami has made a massive pivot to the right side of the ball.
So Miami, Cedric Willis.
Wilson, Tyreek Hill, Mike Gaseki, two new backs, an offensive coach.
Jets here are a dead, they're a doormat.
They got to make a move in Debo, Samuel, and gives them a little bit of everything.
He can catch, he can run, he can block, he's a back, he's a receiver.
And, you know, maybe Debo's from the East Coast.
He wants to go back out east.
I get it.
Like, I understand it.
But the Jets and the Patriots to me feel like Miami going all in on offense.
I mean, Cedric Wilson, Tyreek Hill.
Mike Gaseki, Jalen Waddle.
That's the game.
The game is moving to offense.
The dolphins are packed, loaded at wide receiver and tight end.
What do you got?
Pop Gun.
You got nothing there.
And I don't even know if my coach can coach.
And my quarterback struggled as a rookie.
I mean, Tua today is more dependable than Zach Wilson.
Doesn't have the arm, but he's more dependable.
So if you're the Jets, you've got to make calls on this.
And just the Jets, this is a perfect trade partner.
I can get them to the AFC.
By the way, I can send him to a team that I know that it's not going to
to punish me later. I'm not worried about the Jets even getting out of their division. Perfect place
to send them. Maybe I say, give me both of your first round picks. Jets won't. Jets won't. Jets want
one. But I would make the argument, maybe the 10 is better. Maybe I can take the four.
By the way, how about this? I'm going to take the four from the Jets if I can trade it down to
get two picks because we probably gave up one too many picks to get Tray Lance.
There's your trade partner. Here's Fox Bet. All right.
Look at this, Joy.
Who is the best odds?
You and I should run the world.
The Jets plus 250 are the Fox Bet second favorite after the Niners.
So that's the place to go.
To keep him?
Yeah, the Jets are the leader in the clubhouse to get him if he doesn't stay with the Niners.
And so Jeff Darlington reported Debo wants out.
Who else is on the list?
Colts is interesting.
Colts is interesting.
Again, offensive coach.
You know, again, Packers, I think is a great fit.
But, you know, I mean, the crux of the issue is money.
Right.
I mean, Aaron's making 50 million years.
Zach Wilson makes, you know, nothing.
He's a second-year quarterback.
So you have to imagine you're going to go somewhere that has a young quarterback,
somewhere where they're not paying the quarterback,
or they're on an extremely reasonable deal.
Here's another one that's interesting.
What could they give you?
What about Carolina?
I know it's the NFC, but.
And what are they going to give me a pick?
They have a pick.
I'd rather...
First of all, to be clear, it's going to be multiple picks.
it's not just going to be one first round pick.
I think the Jets is the place.
Listen, the Jets, don't kid yourself here.
Jets makes the most sense.
If Robert Sala finishes in fourth again, and it was ugly last year,
I mean, there were games they didn't look prepared.
No, they need to be significantly better.
And Miami's absolutely better.
Buffalo, Josh Allen's better.
And New England?
Competent.
Well, Mac Jones' second year, they'll be better.
Yeah.
Can't sit around on your hands out there in New York.
The rest of your team's all stink, except the Mets.
And the Nets.
Nets are winning tonight.
Very excited.
I told my wife yesterday, I said, let's throw a party because we were almost finished with her house.
She goes, I need a month to plan it.
I need like four hours.
I'm like, I'll buy some tequila, meet you guys over at the house and over some chicken wings.
She'll like a month for a party.
They've got to set it up properly.
