We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Starting point is 00:01:04 Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. Is everyone lying to me about who they are? I felt such desperation. I felt it was what I had to do. Starting point is 00:02:41 when the company pays, you get fillets. And that's what you have last night. So nothing better than eating on the company time. And it's always great to be on Media Row for Super Bowl 59, New Orleans, Covino and Rich. Rich for Colin on the herd.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Rich had our bosses for it. We're going to talk about that because I think you guys are am. Clowns, and I'll explain why. However, no matter where you were, when the company's paying, why does the food just taste better? Because it's free. Yeah, it's just how it is. I love that. You don't even have to do the fake reach for the wallet either. No, that's part of it. And that's part of the scene. Again, a lot of boozing and schmoozing,
Starting point is 00:03:20 a lot of events and parties leading up to the Super Bowl. And as you always point out, you know, if you go to a conference for your career, you just bump into people you've met along the way. So for us, it's like, hey, look, there's like a reunion for the industry. There's Adam Shion. There's Meena Kimes. You see everyone you've worked with over the years. So it's like Babchick. Let's kick his ass. Yeah, a lot of people you used to work with, people you know,
Starting point is 00:03:42 a lot of familiar faces that you see on TV. Actually, a lot of fun. Everyone busts out there. Their new wardrobe, their new gear for Super Bowl week and everything. Rocking my Travis Matthew Jacket. That's a nice one. You like this band boy? I broke out some new Jordans yesterday. Is it safe to say that
Starting point is 00:03:57 eight out of ten dudes in this whole conventions that are bought some new sneakers or shoes in the last week. You got it. It's like the first day of school. You don't roll up to the first day of school. Beat up 30S Air Force once. You got to bring it. That's just part of the deal. And we'll give you to play-by-play. We got Vince Wilfork stopping by later on the show. And Fred Warner this hour, one of Rich's heroes. And a quick reminder, again, we're Covino and Rich. And we do this Monday through Friday on Fox Sports Radio. So if you dig our show, even if you hate it, follow our podcast for free. Follow rate and review. Just search Covino and Rich. You can hear Pooka Nakuo.
Starting point is 00:04:31 here's some of the interviews we had earlier this week. Covino and Rich, we're on 2 to 4 from L.A., so 2 to 4 on the West, 5 to 7 on the East. But always a pleasure to fill in for Colin on the herd. So we're basically doing five hours of radio today. Now, I got to call Rich out as, oh, you know what? I see Fred Warner stopping by. I'll call you out right after that.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Save that. You know what? Calling you out is what I'm good at, so don't worry. I won't forget. Hold that thought, and you can call me out at the end of our hang with my dude, Fred Warner. Hold on. Yo, what's up, man? All right. Let's welcome with glory.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Dude, I'm the biggest Niners fan. There is, bro. He is, he is, man. Let's welcome 49ers linebacker, Fred Warner to the show. All right. Welcome, man. Thanks for having me, fellas. No, man, thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:05:16 We appreciate you. I'll try to hide my fan boyness. Listen, I tell you, as a Niners fan, this season, I got to know as a player, did you feel what I felt every week where I was like, next week they win three in a row, they'll turn it around. Of course. sneak into the playoffs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:31 I mean, that was, of course, what we all felt, right? And I hate that the season ended, or it even turned out how it did, right? We've had seasons in the past where we had slow starts, right? And we're three and five, or we're on the verge of three and six. And we find a way to pull it off and then win out and do all these sort of things. And, of course, you're yearning for that. But at the end of the day, we couldn't overcome a lot of the things that we were dealt, right? So that was the toughest part.
Starting point is 00:05:55 This nine-er season, a weird analogy, but we're feeling it for Colin today, and he does analogies all day. Yeah. It reminded me of Mike Tyson Buster Douglas. The whole time, you're like, oh, Tyson'll, you know, just a matter of time. That's right. Each round went on, you're like, Buster Douglas is whooping his ass. And then eventually like, oh, damn, Buster Douglas won. Every week, I'm like, I'm like, I wasn't a big fan of this analogy.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I don't know what I have to do with this in this current interview. But you know what? I got to say, Fred, let's take a look at next year's schedule. I know you can't think that way, but it's pretty light. Yeah, I mean, so here's how the schedule goes. The year that we just finished, everybody's looking at the teams that we've, that we're going to play, we're going off a base off the past year, right? And that means nothing.
Starting point is 00:06:40 But what happens? Like all those teams that had poor seasons, they all now have the best picks to pick up the best players. And then they go in free agency and they go get more great players. And then all of a sudden, they have a great year next year. And everybody's like, oh, my God, I thought this team sucked. And it's like, no, well, they got some reinforcements because nobody wants to stay at the bottom, right? And so it doesn't matter what the schedule is. I mean, obviously, I guess technically you want the easiest schedule,
Starting point is 00:07:04 but at the end of the day, there is no easy games because it's the NFL. Everybody's great. So you've got to go out and you've got to put the best product on the field every given Sunday. Fred Warner here on the Kavino and Rich show. Rich talked about, you know, everybody expecting the season to turn around last year, and it just never really did. So there's a lot of buzz, a lot of talking every day, social media on TV. How do you tune that out?
Starting point is 00:07:26 Or does it start to weigh on you? for a while. No, you tune it out. I think in season is especially important to kind of just keep that stuff outside of whatever your personal things that you're allowing into your life, right? I think there's a lot of stuff out there that can kind of seep into your mind and sway the way that you think about the game or the way that you approach the game. And I've learned throughout my younger years, as I can say now, is to kind of just put all that aside, man, and just focus on the main thing. And that's playing football and preparing as hard as you can. can week in and week out to put their breast product on the field.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Well, you could focus on yourself. You're in control of that. Sure. You start to feel the tension building within the locker room. Because you are a family of sorts when things get tough. Do you start to notice that and try to keep it calm? I honestly think that we have a locker room that's made of the right type of guys. I don't think that our GM, John Lynch and Kyle Shannon, our head coach,
Starting point is 00:08:20 they don't bring guys that aren't made of the right things. And so we all stay together through all the hardships. And it has nothing to do about the pressure from the outside. If anything, there's more pressure from the inside because there is a standard of winning in our organization. So when it's not being upheld, then that's when you start to feel, okay, like we need to write the ship.
Starting point is 00:08:36 And so it was a miserable season because we didn't do that. Fred Warner, hanging with Kavino and Rich, in for the herd. Robert Salah. As a fan, I was pumped. Who cares about what I think? When you are hearing the rumors and then it happens, is that your guy, is at a nice reunion? Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I can't speak to how amazing that is right here on this set because of how much Coach Salah means to me in my progression as a young player. I mean, from the moment I got drafted to starting me as a young rookie who never played off the ballbacker before and sticking with me through the rough patches of that rookie season and me being able to ascend in this league. So I'm so grateful to him for what he's giving me.
Starting point is 00:09:16 And now being able to have him back now in these different points in our careers is going to be unique, but in such the right ways. I mean, he's such a great teacher and leader. Man, I'm so excited to have him back. And he seems like such a good dude. So what were your thoughts when you saw he was treated and what went on with the Jets and everything?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Well, look, I don't even know exactly what went on over there. Obviously, I can only speak to him being. You'll get the scoop, though. Yeah, you know, when I do sit down and talk with, I'm sure I'll have a little bit more information, but by then I might not be able to get back on the set with you guys. But, yeah, man, obviously I'm just excited that he is. However it all unfolded, he's back with us.
Starting point is 00:09:50 And so that's what makes me excited and hopeful for the future. Now, Rock Purdy, other side of the ball, but it seems like I love how you have his back. I'm not saying it's disingenuous, but do you have to have your quarterback's back, or do you really believe in what he could deliver? Yeah, no, I can honestly say that if I had a certain sort of way that I felt about a player, like I would jump around a question, right?
Starting point is 00:10:12 Like, I'd kind of find a way to say something nice about him when, you know, in reality it's probably not the right guy. Like, I don't know how much time do we have on the set. Like, we could sit here all day and we could talk about it. But at the end of the day, this is a cat that was the last pick of the draft, right? And you don't even hear about these guys who they don't even pan out in the NFL. I want people to understand this.
Starting point is 00:10:33 The last pick of the draft doesn't usually make it on a roster. This is the guy who is our franchise quarterback, you know, and it's just made of the complete right stuff and has continued to prove week in and week out that he is that guy. You know, he led us to a Super Bowl. Unfortunately, we didn't win that Super Bowl, but that's not his fault. It's a team game, right? He made enough plays in that game to win us the game. He finished with the ball with us, having a football.
Starting point is 00:10:54 with us having more points than the other team. It was our job to stop their offense. So at the end of the day, man, he just is the complete right guy for the position, and I love him. I love the way that he competes and the way he approaches it. Not to throw Trey Lance onto the bus, but they were rumblings early on that even in like early practices, it was like, take a look at Purdy. Yeah, Purdy as the, well, you're the third string guy,
Starting point is 00:11:18 and you're obviously Mr. Irrelevant, last big in the draft. You're not going to have a lot of opportunities to get out there on the practice field, So the times where he was getting reps was in training Campbell, we're in the P.M. practice out there, no helmets, no pads. It's a walk-through, but he's out there treating it as if it was a game. And I'm like, how, like, this guy is, how does he even know how to do this? Like, you're a rookie. Everything just stacked against you, and he just knew exactly what to do
Starting point is 00:11:43 from the moment he came on the team. It's kind of lame, but it's sort of the story of the ugly duckling, right? And he turned into a beautiful swan leading your team to victory, right? No, he's phenomenal. Look what he turned into. I want to talk about Purdy's game. I want to talk about your game, but not on the field. Your wife.
Starting point is 00:11:59 You met her by sliding into the DMs. That's right. Yeah, I got a little something, man. Yeah. So how cool was that, though? I'm imagining you're watching TV. You saw her and you're like, I like her. Is that how it was working?
Starting point is 00:12:10 It was a unique situation. But at the end of the day, yeah, I mean, I see her. She's gorgeous. She's beautiful. I didn't know what it was going to turn into. I did slide the DMs, and she somehow answered back. I didn't think she would. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:21 And we met in L.A. This was right before COVID happened. she was there for business and got in super late. The only thing that was open was in and out. So we went to in and out, and we just sat there. We talked for hours, and the similarities within each other. It was a match made of heaven. But you met her at In and Out?
Starting point is 00:12:39 Basically. Really? That was the first date. That's wild, dude. And by the way, if you guys don't know the story, she was on Bachelor season 24. So I'm assuming you're a fan and you're just watching and you're like, you point at the TV. Hey, as Sydney. By the way, you guys are great on social media together.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Honestly, like my wife's like, they're so cute. I appreciate it, man, thank you. Now, I got to ask this whole season, you played hurt. I mean, I'm not saying that's, you know, I know everyone's a little hurt, but you are hurt. Yeah. Is this all season going to be just the perfect rest you need to come back even stronger? Absolutely. And, you know, I hate to kind of just put this, I don't ever want to put this spotlight on myself
Starting point is 00:13:20 because I know that everybody's dealing with something at some point. It was a very hard and unique season for myself because I hadn't had to push through something like that before. But I'm proud of the way that I was able to fight through it, even through the circumstances. And I'm excited, yeah, to get back healthy this offseason to ultimately get back to form going into the next season. Are you more concerned this offseason about working on your right hook trying to knock that ball out? I don't know if that's part of the training nowadays. I got to start working on my left. Yeah, that's the problem right now.
Starting point is 00:13:47 And are you still hitting the weights? Because when I searched Fred Warner, I was just doing some research on your stats. The first thing that came up was how many times could you bench 225? Yes, yes. What did it say? It said 41. Wow. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:13:59 That's absolutely not right. Do you still care about that stuff? No, no, no. Not at all. I mean, I do care about the way room, but I don't get that. Let's not get that wrong. Like, the wayroom is very important for ultimately performance and longevity in this league. But do I care about how many times I bench two only wife?
Starting point is 00:14:14 No. What is he 17? Yeah. Those times are those times were good while they lasted. Right. They weren't. But it was, you know, it was part of the process. And now it's just about just being the best version of myself for Sundays.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Fred, we had Pookin the Kua here earlier. Awesome. And he's a good dude. He says hello. He says hello. And we're talking about the culture now of, like, you can't really tackle guys the way you used to. Right. Is there such an emphasis on punching out the ball?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Is that something like defensive specialists are telling you, like, we got to do this? Yeah, I think it is for absolutely something that teams are honing in on now. It's not easy, though. You know, some guys have more of a knack forward than others, but at the end of the day, as long as you practice something. You got to hit that speedbag, man. You got to do it every single day. You got to practice it every day to make a muscle memory, and that's what I've done. I added it to my game in my second season and first game being out there with Quaun Alexander, I go and I punch a ball out, right?
Starting point is 00:15:06 And so that was just how it all unfolded. Again, we're here with Fred Warner, and I know you're here with Experian. That's right. So, yeah, tell us about it, man. Yeah, no, listen, Experian's all about saving everybody time and money, right? And so you download the Experian app. they help you cancel all your subscriptions that you don't use that you don't need everybody falls victim to it right a lot of people pay I was checking my bills once like babe we're still paying for our peloton exactly it's like we don't even have a peloton anymore
Starting point is 00:15:29 that thing broke like three years ago okay why are we still paying for this so you know we all fall victim to it where things just go unnoticed but they do all the heavy work all the heavy lifting of doing all that for you and saving you time of money I think my mom was still paying for a OL by the way I got to ask which is true it because it hurt me as a fan and I and I hate that to compare it because I'm just a fan. I was there both times against the Chiefs. Does this make you want to see them lose? Are you pulling for the Eagles? Are you not watching some guys? Like, I don't even want to watch. What's your thoughts? I'm not the cat that doesn't watch.
Starting point is 00:16:01 I'm a complete fan of the game, so I'm absolutely going to be tuned in, but I'm not pulling for either team. I dislike both teams, honestly. Same. And your wife hates the Eagles fans, I heard, right? Oh, well, I wouldn't say hate, but it wasn't it wasn't the most cordial encounter when we went out there that one time.
Starting point is 00:16:19 But yeah, I dislike both teams, so I hope they both lose. You know what I'm saying? I don't know how that works, but we can figure out. There was that meme where it's like who's rooting for who and it's like meteor strike. What was the number one answer? I mean, yeah, let the lights shut out again like they did back. What was that when we played the Ravens? Oh, yeah, it was the same stadium, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:16:39 I'm 0-3 as a fan. Can we change this next year? And Levi's. Come on. Let's do it. Yeah, I got you. Fred, a pleasure having you got around. Pleasures all mine, man.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Thank you, man. Always, always success. A pleasure to meet you. Thank you, man. Fred Warner on the Covino and Rich Show. In for Colin Cowherd, Super Bowl 59, New Orleans. We got more next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:17:04 FS1 and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:17:18 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:17:58 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:18:18 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the civil war. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things.
Starting point is 00:19:09 The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal. campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Gianmanca seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else. A master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea?
Starting point is 00:19:53 It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No. I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets.
Starting point is 00:20:15 But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All yeah, it's Media Row Super Bowl. Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Covino and Rich. In for Colin on the herd. Everything at Covino and Rich. Follow our Nolan's Adventures. We're posting a lot at Covino and Rich, our IG Story, at Fox Sports Radio. Lots of videos on YouTube. And definitely follow rate and review our podcast. Covino and Rich.
Starting point is 00:21:10 We're on every day, Monday through Friday. In fact, not only are we in for the herd today, we're still doing our regular show. Because, well, Super Bowl Meteor Rose is like a second home. for us. We've been doing us a lot and love coming back every year. Want to keep that going. Love catching up with people. This is your 34th year? Our 155th year here, we are, we're actually 70. Yeah, yeah. And we got Vince Wilfork stopping by next hour of the Patriots, former Patriot legend. Two-time Super Bowl champion. Know what I got to ask Vince Wilfork about? We're what? Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday.
Starting point is 00:21:45 We're four days away from Super Bowl Sunday. and my wife's at home with the kids. She hit me up and she's like, babe, I think I want to buy a new grill and smoker to make all the appetizers for our Super Bowl party. And I'm like, do you think now, well, I'm out of town and we're having a bunch of people come over? Is that the time to experiment with new food?
Starting point is 00:22:05 Right, yeah, exactly. Is now the time we're going to be the family that makes pulled pork? Maybe you try that without company coming over. Vince knows. Vince Wilfork knows his grilling. He knows his. barbecue. We'll talk to him about that and more. He's working with Jason Kelsey on some grilling stuff for the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Yeah, yeah. And we just had Fred Warner on the show. I know that was huge for Rich as a big 49ers fan. The one thing I kind of wanted to get to if we had more time is something you bring up all the time about your 49ers and the fear of, you know, you only get so much of a window in the NFL. Then again, the Eagles, you thought they were done and now they're back. I'm going to give you his answer? I'll give you his answer. Okay, ready? Hey, Fred Warner, Rich Davis. Yeah, baby. He's smooth.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Do you ever get scared that maybe the 49ers window is closing? His answer is clear. Because it's what any niner would say. When you have John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan running the show, guys that know how to work contracts, they know a system. And Salah coming back. And Robert Sala now heading up.
Starting point is 00:23:11 What you're talking about. Rich, the window closed already. There is no window closing for the 49ers. And you know, he did give one great answer, which is, I gave a lot of great answers, but what I thought was interesting is, yeah, as a fan, you do look at those schedules and say, you know, the Niners play all weak-ass teams next year, because they have the, quote, easiest schedule winning percentage-wise going into the next season, because they were technically a last-place team,
Starting point is 00:23:37 but he's right. All the bottom feeders get the top picks in the draft, and they spend the off-season trying to revamp because what they did didn't work. So it's not like every garbage team last year is going to be garbage again, it's just not how it is. But again, much how the 49ers fell off this year, and you think about their window closing. That's why the Eagles are inspiring
Starting point is 00:23:58 heading into Sunday, because we felt that way about them last year. You get one major piece, like a Sequin Barclay. You get a good, healthy year from Jalen Hurts. The whole thing is right back, you know, and turns it all around again. So I would never count your 49ers out, is my point. You get McCaffrey,
Starting point is 00:24:15 Ayuk, all these guys that missed the whole season. Exactly, you know, and maybe make a good move here and there. And you know who you could also put in that conversation of, oh, you know, we counted them out, a team that came within a field goal of being here at Super Bowl 59. Everyone said,
Starting point is 00:24:31 oh, Buffalo, that ship of sale. And people were saying jets and dolphins. There were so many people, even on our network, they were saying, yeah, Buffalo, that Josh Allen window is closed. McDermott, no thanks. You know, they were a Josh Allen bad, fourth-down spot. away from having the ball in the fourth quarter already up, scoring again.
Starting point is 00:24:51 So the NFL things change very quickly with little adjustments. You know what? I'm going to call out Rich later on. I want to make fun of Rich, and you definitely want to hear that. Because he was splitting food last night at a company dinner. He went split skis. But since you're talking about, again, the Super Bowl, and we're not going to avoid it. That's why we're here.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Let's talk about the ticket sales and the ticket fatigue. Do you think because we saw this already and because Chiefs fans have been here, twice already that they're not buying tickets because they're cheaper than ever before. Well, not ever before, but in recent history. Yeah, I mean, they're not like $10, like, $1967 in Super Bowl 1. Do you think it's Chief's fatigue, Super Bowl fatigue, do you think they're sick of the matchup? Like, what do you think is going on that the tickets are significantly lower? I mean, what you're saying is probably the number one answer, and I say that because if this
Starting point is 00:25:44 Super Bowl was Detroit Lions, Buffalo, bills. I think you would have seen most expensive ticket in the Super Bowl history. And I think it's as simple as this, ready? Break it down, just a regular guy. Let's say you went to the last two Chief Super Bowls. Imagine the guy having to go to his wife again. Be like, honey,
Starting point is 00:26:01 I'd like to go again with the boys, or even you want to take your family, whatever the case may be. If you went the last two years, coughing up the change for a third one in New Orleans might be like, hey, you know, maybe it's a little too much. Or maybe like, yeah, I went to the last
Starting point is 00:26:16 Maybe I'll sit back and watch this one. But what do most grown men and women call going to the Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals? They usually say things like, this is a once-in-a-lifetime. Yeah, bucket list. Bucket list. I got to go. And then, you know what those people did? They went in 2020.
Starting point is 00:26:34 Exactly. When the Niners lost to the Chiefs in Miami. And then for the people that were like, oh, man, such a bummer I didn't go. They maybe went the next year with Tom Brady, face my homes. Oh, dude, I totally missed my opportunity. The Rams Bengals, faster to another year. Oh, wait, they're back in the big game.
Starting point is 00:26:50 They're playing the Eagles. There's been five opportunities now for a Chiefs fan. So small market, Kansas City fans that are like, this is a bucket list item. You are now on chance number five. They're a spoiled. Bro, it's the spoiled mentality. I've been there as a Yankees fan.
Starting point is 00:27:05 In 96, of course, I was there. You know, 98 I was there again. You know, 2000, yeah, I wasn't as excited to go. I was excited to watch. Nothing would bother me more. Don't get it wrong. I was watching and rooting, but it wasn't the same exciting because you become spoiled and entitled a little bit. And I think maybe that's why there's not as many Chiefs fans willing to come and cough up that money.
Starting point is 00:27:27 In fact, we went to opening night, which is just a big media celebration at the Superdome. And media's asking all the players, you know, question to answer. You saw it on television. It was mostly Eagles fans, you know, and again, that's early on in the week. So maybe that is partially the reason. It's just a little bit of an entitlement. And listen, I have a buddy who's an eagle fan that watched them win with Foles within the last 10 years, watched Tim lose, watched Jaylen Hertz lose a couple years ago. This is the third time in the last decade.
Starting point is 00:27:59 He said, and my kid's got sports. My wife's like, hey, babe, maybe sit this one out. There is a fatigue, which is 100% true. And on top of that fatigue, Kavino, maybe people are broke. The economy, you know, some people might say, I don't got that disposable income. However, there's nothing more infuriating than a spoiled fan. There was a time when I was living in New York. Danny G., you're a West Coast guy, so if this happens with Dodgers fans,
Starting point is 00:28:26 I'll equally roll my eyes and hate it. I would have Yankee fan friends, and I'd say, dude, you go on the playoff games? They would say, bro, it's only the divisional round. Only the division on. Dude, I'm going to wait until the World Series. it's only the American League championship. I'm like, what are you saying? Yeah, so maybe we're seeing some habits of a spoiled fan here.
Starting point is 00:28:49 That could very well be it because ticket prices have plummeted. And that is a side story. By the way, plummeted means $4,000. But in comparison, when last year the average ticket price was around $8,000? Exactly. I mean, that's significant. I mean, it's still expensive. I get it.
Starting point is 00:29:05 And, you know, I also do think, Rich, I mean, we touched on it, that people don't have that sort of money to spend right now. Maybe they're just playing it safe because they're looking to the future. Who knows? So that is a story we wanted to touch on and wanted to get your thoughts on maybe as to why. Those are our reasonings. That's our theory. Let us know at Covino & Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Now, we're going to get into the heard-line news a little bit with Danny G. But one last question about the Super Bowl from a light perspective. We're having people over. Yeah. What's your take on TV volume? People talking, people shutting up. I know one of our favorite comedians, Bill Burr, does a whole bit about how, hey, I can't watch the Super Bowl with non-fans because he wants to watch.
Starting point is 00:29:50 People yapping the whole time when you're trying to concentrate. It's almost disrespectful. His take is all these morons talk during the game, and then they're quiet during the commercials. And he's like, it should be the opposite. Oh, my God. He's so right about that. I got the TV in, like, the Den family room, and I have the living room. Oh, so you don't come here with questions.
Starting point is 00:30:10 You come here with solutions. I'm saying, do I make a proclamation that if you want to hone in on the game, hey, listen, Slappy, hey, Zippy, zip it. If you want to yap the whole time, get in the kiddies' room and watch over there. Like, Danny, if you and Brenda and Koe would come by, do I say, hey, if Brenda and Koe are going to be playing with the kids, that's where you go in the family room. The game will be on, but if you want to watch.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Forget the Super Bowl, regular season. I don't like it when my own kids. Even the teens in our family are in the living room. while I'm watching. It's such a great. You know what, though? Kids at least have an excuse, right?
Starting point is 00:30:45 They're running around. They're being rambunctious. They're being kids. You're an adult. So many adults show up just to hobnob, you know, and eat the free food. I hate it. It's like, oh, man, you're ruining the atmosphere here. I've been to a Super Bowl party or two.
Starting point is 00:30:57 I'm sure you have two where they turn the volume down so that people could hear their chit chat better. Oh, man. I hate that. Turn the game up. I'm going to get extra. I'm going to get extra sono speakers and crank them. No, it is.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Just because you need to hear it. It's Super Bowl. You've got to have the surround sound, and you've got to have it like sports bar level where the game outweighs the chit-chat. That's the method. But, again, Rich's solution if you missed it, is he's going to have a separate TV where if you want to chit-chat about the latest Bachelor episode while the game is on, you go in that room. All right? This room's for the real fans that are concentrating. I love.
Starting point is 00:31:34 That invested a whole season, a whole time, you know, all this time into this entire season, not to listen to you on a season. Super Bowl. I love all the chit-chat. Hey, new Levis Blind comes out this week. Hey, you're watching Shrinking on Apple TV? That's the chit-chat, Danny, for the family room. Yeah, you're a hobnobber. That's why we do that feature on Fridays.
Starting point is 00:31:52 And it's also when you know you met the right significant other because Brenda, she knows if NFL's on, don't talk unless there's commercials. She's even grabbed the remote and turn the volume up for me. That's a great game day wife. I love that. Danny with the game day. Game Day Wifee. Game Day Wifee.
Starting point is 00:32:12 And what do you think about halftime, too? Again, I'm not the biggest Kendrick Lamar fan, but I want to hear what's going on. I want to hear it. I don't want to hear you. You're not the halftime show.
Starting point is 00:32:22 He is. Those are cultural moments that I think, exactly, if you're a human being. Because what a people? I see it as like historical moments, because we'll be talking about it. Same way you bring up Bruno Mars
Starting point is 00:32:33 and Prince and whoever performed, you're going to be like, yo, remember when Kennedy? Even if he stinks, you want to watch it. and you want to remember it. So it's almost a disrespect that some dude is going to talk over and stomp over this entire historical moment. It's like, yo, man, it's the time and place. Could I predict something?
Starting point is 00:32:51 Yeah. Because in 2025. I like your solution, by the way. In 2025, we live in a world of eye-rolling critics. Everyone. Oh, God. Like, you can see the greatest thing in the world yet there's people somehow find a way to hate it. Without a doubt, there's going to be a bunch of people that no matter what Kendrick Lamar does,
Starting point is 00:33:10 No, I thought it stunk. And there's going to be people that think every commercial stinks. And there's going to be those people that live in the past about like, you know, used to be better back in the day. It's like the fireworks on the 4th of July. There's always that one jerk that's like, oh, better last year. That's better last year. So be prepared for the haters and the jerks, but enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday. Fireworks usually end with it.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Is that it? That's it? Is it over? So I think you got to prepare yourself for all those ass clowns that mocking. everything that talk in your living room. So have at it, have fun. And with that, let's go to Danny G. For the Hurdline News. No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:33:51 This is the Hurdline News. All right, guys, leading headline from Super Bowl Week in New Orleans. Premier Network's Big Shot Julie Talbot is soft and says that Rich Davis sharing food with our boss Scott was cute. Let me tell you, it is. I think we'll talk about it more on our show this afternoon because there was a lot of people chat about how me and the boss decided to split two entrees. Two grown men.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Totally little bit. I mean, embarrassed. At least I thought you were. We didn't feed each other scallops, guys. Did you guys share a little cocktail with an umbrella too? You guys fed each other a dessert and I took a picture of it and that is now going to go in the blackmail file. Perfect. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Let's start with the NFL here. Nick Sariani, the Eagles head coach, of course. He weighed in on your guy's debate yesterday about motivation and adversity. This team's embraced adversity, Seriani said yesterday. Even going back to the 23 season, which we haven't talked a lot about since the beginning of the year, we're grateful for that. We're thankful for that. As bad as it sucked at the time, I know I'm grateful for that because it shaped us into who we are now
Starting point is 00:34:54 and a big reason why we're back here. Embracing adversity is huge for your development as a person, as a player, as a coach. You know, we got Vince Wilfork stopping by later on. He's lost a few Super Bowls. We'll ask him about it. Like, how does that work as far as staying motivated? That's the, you know, Vince Woolfork is a guy that's won a couple close ones and lost a couple close ones. So that's some perspective right there.
Starting point is 00:35:18 All right, the NBA trade deadline is tomorrow. I have one rumor and one trade. KD. is dealing with a left ankle sprain, and it is unclear whether or not he's played his final game for the sons. No one's safe. Sources say Phoenix has been willing to listen to offers for Kevin Durant in recent days. the Warriors are among the teams with interest, according to Brian Winfors. Well, the rumor is that the Warriors are reaching out to everybody just to see who's willing. Yeah, they're reaching out to everyone.
Starting point is 00:35:47 It's like, they don't want to waste Steph's final years. Exactly. All right, and Shams had more breaking news this morning. The Bucks have traded three-time All-Star Chris Middleton to the Wizards in a deal that sends Kyle Kuzma to Milwaukee. Middleton's 33 spent 11-plus years in Milwaukee, key member to that Bucks championship team. team and 21. He's averaging just 12.6 points per game this season. His lowest average since 2013. Injuries have been a big part of why he declined. And Kuzma, on the other hand, 29, averaging 15.2 points and almost six rebounds this season. So the bucks, they get a younger guy
Starting point is 00:36:26 here to fit in with Janus Lillard and Brooke Lopez. Hey, Davey. G, as a resident Lakers guy, do you keep your eye on Kuzma? and move for them a little bit. Yeah, of course. Okay. I look at that and say they're getting some youth, but, you know, for that Milwaukee Bucks fan base, it's hard to say goodbye to a lifer that was part of a championship team,
Starting point is 00:36:47 especially when you got that one chip with Yannis, and it was very special for that organization. Middleton was such a big part of that. And don't forget, he rose up from the G League. So he's one of the better stories in the league. Well, you know, Danny, speaking of the NBA, when you look at the standings, I know we always have to stick with Eastern Conference, Western Conference,
Starting point is 00:37:04 but I just looked at, I'm like, hey, where are the Golden State Warriors? As of right now, they're that 10 seed that would be in the playing game. Dallas is over 500, and they are on the outside looking at number 11. Now, when you go to the East, seven on wouldn't even make the playoffs in the West. So there's an imbalance in the league. Like, you know, every few years you get a way heavier conference. And right now, the worst teams in the West are as good as playoff teams in the East. It's going to be a fun NBA season that we're looking forward to after the Super Bowl is over.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Suddenly, some life injected to the league, especially with the Anthony Davis and Luca trade. Look at it in the east. Detroit is currently the six seed. If they were in the West, they would be the 12 seed. That's crazy. It's a big imbalance. So lots of drama show in the next two days as far as moves being made. And let's wrap it up with LeBron.
Starting point is 00:38:01 The Lakers are now. and O at the Clippers new Intuit Dome home. Oh, how sad for the Clippers. I know. They crushed the Clippers last night. 122 to 97. And, you know, the Clippers have been dominating in Lakers, at least in the regular season the past decade, but not lately. That's nine wins in the Lakers' last 11 games. And LeBron said that when he went to the bench for his first breather, it was strange to not have his usual seat right next to his homie AD, but that a smiling Luka helped make the adjustment for him.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Smiling Luka. I thought that the trade news for sure was fake, LeBron said. I thought it was a hoax, people messing around or whatever. But then when AD called me and FaceTime me and I talked to him for quite a while, and even when I got off the phone with him, I still didn't think it was real. You know, I think we're still processing it and absorbing it. Did you think it was a hoax? Because you even believe in like drones and UFO.
Starting point is 00:38:52 So you missed it. I was like, get out of here. I thought I was going to click the link and it was to be a naked guy. You know, I thought it was a fake link. I didn't know what it was. but I was pretty impressed by the professionalism of all involved, meaning LeBron saying, you know, hey man, this happens, it's a business, I get that, and, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:09 got to move forward, that sort of thing. AD seemed oddly content. Like, you know, I was watching the clip. I'm like, wait, is that a current clip? Because I expected to see him like sad and somber, but he was sort of like, yeah, we're going to go at it and get it. And it was cool to see that he's moving forward. If anything, Luca seemed, you know, the most torn up about it.
Starting point is 00:39:27 But we talked about it earlier. He's also dealing with the most adversity. There's a hundred million dollar difference and the most loss here. But again, I know he's excited still. He's carrying the most weight. You know what? Yeah, pun intended. But I will say, though, that, you know, in a world of critics where everyone's, you know, leaning on every word they say.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Yeah. Everyone's going to handle it pretty professional. I think the right amount also of... Oh, an AD turned down $6 million trading clause just to have extra money so they can get the key components that they need. Yeah, that was a big move. I think we're also seeing the right amount of greed. like LeBron saying goodbye to AD, Lucas saying goodbye to Dallas. It's not too much where it's like, I don't get over it, but it's also the right amount of respect.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Yeah, now let's see it all on the court. And to say you know who won this trade, you're full of it because no one knows yet. We shall see. And that is the herd line news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping back. The herd line news. All right.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So you mentioned the Lakers. We still got to talk Brony. and the most exciting, and I say this respectfully, the most exciting garbage time players. In any sport, it could be backup quarterbacks, it could be, you know, guys off the end of the bench in the NBA, those garbage time players that get people. Fan favorites usually like that.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Dude that used to come off the bench for the Celtics. Yeah, yeah, all your fan favorites. That red-headed Kobe? Oh, I thought you're going to say Taco. Oh, him too. Yeah, I've had a few. Taco Grande? Your favorite Weird El Song?
Starting point is 00:40:56 Yeah. Taco Grande. Oh, Taco Fall. So, again, it didn't make Danny's herd line news, but Brony hit his first three. And say what you want about the guy. When he's in, and when I hear his name and the highlights, I'm tuned in. So the most exciting garbage time players, and I say that respectfully, we'll chop it up. And we got more Kavino and Rich in for Colin on the herd.
Starting point is 00:41:19 And stick around for Vince Wilfork here from Super Bowl 59, New Orleans, Fox Sports Radio. Let's go. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. And together we're Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You can catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and, of course, the IHeart Radio app. Why should you listen to Kavino and Rich?
Starting point is 00:41:47 We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world? We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? So check us out. We like to get you involved too. Take your phone calls, chop it up, as they say.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio. Maybe the most interactive show on Planet Earth. Be sure to check out Covino and Rich live on Fox Sports Radio on the IHeart Radio app from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific. And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich, wherever you get your podcast and, of course, on social media. That's Covino and Rich. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:42:32 We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:42:42 We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
Starting point is 00:43:00 one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Starting point is 00:43:17 Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title. for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is. Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the civil war.
Starting point is 00:44:17 To get to school, I had to go down. Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes, in Rebel Spirit season two, goes deep on both of those things.
Starting point is 00:44:32 The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are dishealing a fire that is really catching.
Starting point is 00:44:51 You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Gianmanca seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad. But secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. but I felt so desperate that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong on what that might look like?
Starting point is 00:45:30 No, I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, welcome back to the show. Covino and Rich, follow our adventures.
Starting point is 00:46:15 At Covino and Rich on social media, I always post the new stuff. We came from Vegas to New Orleans. We were in Vegas this past weekend for the Benavitas fight. David Benavitas with a nice win. And there's lots of rumors in the world of fighting, Rich. Fighting! That Canello is going to fight Jake Paul and Terrence Crawford in September. So he's willing to fight everybody but David Benavitas.
Starting point is 00:46:41 It's really the moral of that story. But we love a great fight, a nice heinie. And we love being here at Super Bowl. All 59 Media Row in New Orleans. Again, in for Colin on the herd. And we're still joined by Vince Wilfork next hour. In fact, if you look at Kavino's Instagram algorithm, it's Booty's fight game and the Yankees.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Oh, yeah, and football. And football. And football, because we're real excited about the Super Bowl, man. So you brought up Ronnie James, and I love to disagree with Kavino. That's what I do for fun. That's what I do for a living. But I agree with him 100% when he said,
Starting point is 00:47:15 with all the respect, Bronny James might be the most exciting garbage time player ever. And you give a great example, too. It's usually when it's the kid of a player, I'll be honest. Let's see, the little nerdy white dude on the end of the bench or the seven-footer. In the NBA, there's always that guy where you're like, oh, get him in. Now, to me, I know this. It's like sort of the Rudy of the Lucas of the team.
Starting point is 00:47:40 It's the fan favorite after a while, and he's that guy. And let's make it clear, too, again, for the hurt audience, we don't hate on Brony James. Not at all, man. At all. In fact, we're rooting for the kid. He's just a kid, man. He's got a lot of pressure on him. His dad's putting all this pressure on him.
Starting point is 00:47:58 So when I see him deliver, you know, I get excited for him. I do. Also, I feel like it kind of opened the door for the Lakers to be their own man and not have to clear everything through LeBron for this Luca trade. Because, in a sense, they felt like, we, did you a solid with your son. It's almost like when you do someone a solid or a good, we don't know you anymore. It's funny you bring that up to him. Yeah, because I thought about that in a lot of different ways too, because when you saw LeBron's reaction to it publicly, he seemed to be cool with it. And I'm wondering if they said things to him like, look, man, Luca knows the deal
Starting point is 00:48:36 with Brani moving forward, you know, or we're still going to look out for Brony moving forward. Or if LeBron said something like, yo, listen, guys, you're not keeping me in the loop. About brawny. Right. You know, like, yeah, in my opinion, they said all the right things after the fact, too, to keep them happy. And let him feel like, yeah, this was still a part of keeping the winning tradition for Brony or something, right? How's that flat screen TV doing that I helped you wall him out? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:49:04 It's sort of like that. You know, when you bring up garbage time players, I'm going to make it a little kinder. Sure. I mean, it's just an expression. It's not meant to be a disc. But Garbage Time player is also translation like backup fan favorite, you know, utility guy, because I have two that come to mind as a Mets fan. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:49:30 Jose Iglesias was a dude that the Mets got from the Tigers, like, minor league deal, brought him up. Candalita. He's a Latino music star. That's 300 in key spots for the Mets. And he becomes the rally cry of a team that had an amazing playoff run. So you could say Jose Iglesias went from, like, utility garbage guy to a key component of a really fun playoff run. You know who I think of when you say that as a Yankees fan?
Starting point is 00:50:01 And by the way, yeah, that would be a great example. And he stepped up. In fact, no one has signed him yet. And I'm like, I just think, like, by no number. means a charity case the guy delivers but I feel like just for just for vibes the Mets how do you move on for it? I also think not only do the fans
Starting point is 00:50:17 rally around that type of player the team rallies around that type of player. You see how LeBron reacts when his son scores it's actually endearing to watch like wow he's his heart is out there when his son is playing when he's scoring and the team knows that too say they're rallying around Brani whether
Starting point is 00:50:34 you think it's fair or not it might be good for the team I think of as the Yankees fan Louis Soho Who wasn't like the greatest player ever, but the fans and the team rallied around that dude, and he came through all the time. He was sort of a garbage time utility guy that stepped up and people loved them. He doesn't know who comes to one in baseball, and then I got a couple of football ones. Well, now baseball sort of abuses a little bit because they're always still in position players into pitch during a blowout.
Starting point is 00:50:59 That's more than ever before we've seen that. I was going to say, well, take you back like 10 plus years. He was around the league on different teams. Do you remember Super Joe McEwing? Yeah, of course. Like Darrow says always those guys. And now in the NFL, you could say it's backup quarterbacks that when they get a chance, eyes are peeled. Before he was a starter.
Starting point is 00:51:17 And then what happens is they become starters and they lose that appeal. I know where you got. Gardner Minchu. Number one. The pasturnot. Oh, yeah. I mean, we're talking about guys that when they got a shot, you're like, oh, man. But then sadly, they lose that appeal when they got the job.
Starting point is 00:51:34 So here's what we'll do, again, because we're on location on Media Row here at the Super Bowl. Super Bowl.
