Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Help an Acapella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Your identity is formed by a secret history. I'm Danny Shapiro, and these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets. He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move. And he went out the front door, and he jumped in a car and drove off. And that was the last time I saw him. Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio, app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. Is everyone lying to me about who they are? I felt such desperation. I felt it was what I had to do. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man. on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcasts. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right, here we go. Hour 2, live in L.A., it's the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. Thanks, Tom, Brady, for stopping by. I thought he did bring up an interesting point that J. Mack and I talked about during the break, is that we are asking defensive players to protect quarterbacks
Starting point is 00:02:45 instead of quarterbacks protecting quarterbacks. And as we have these quarterback injuries, we have to acknowledge quarterbacks have more design run plays than ever. And so it's not a defensive player's responsibility to protect the quarterback. Now, we know with concussions and head injuries that if they see helmet on helmet or they think they see it, they're throwing a flag. And the Will Anderson wasn't. But my first thought was, yeah, that's, that is a penalty, and they're not allowed to challenge it. So I'm going to give the referees a break on that one.
Starting point is 00:03:13 And they've been instructed in the rule book. I was actually having dinner last night, and Mike Pereira came and sat next to me. And so we talked about this for 10 minutes. Mike's a great guy. We were talking about the rule. And he's like, listen, you know, they tried it with pass interference, reviewing stuff. It was a nightmare. So you don't have to love it as an official,
Starting point is 00:03:31 but the NFL has said, listen, it's the number one asset. If you think it's helmet on helmet or rubbing the passer, call it. Error on the side of penalty. So you've got to be careful.
Starting point is 00:03:42 You got to come in lower. And that's the way it is. The other thing I was thinking about this morning, and not just because increasingly I have nothing but gray hair, but Pete Carroll is up for the Raiders job. And again, I mean, last week,
Starting point is 00:03:57 It was guaranteed Ben Johnson was going there. So this is crazy season, silly season. I don't know who's going where. And I listen to very few voices. But here's the thing. Pete Carroll 73. Warren Buffett's 94, and I still trust his stock picks. So the young generation doesn't quite see work the way my generation does,
Starting point is 00:04:15 and Pete's in my generation. We want to work. We have great energy for it. And Pete builds cultures. And, I mean, it used to be 1991. The retirement age was 57. It is now 62. And I look at Andy Reid at 66 and my takeaway, does he want to just retire and eat barbecue or retire win Super Bowls and eat barbecue?
Starting point is 00:04:35 It's a real easy decision. So, I mean, I've said this with football coaches and people in my business. What am I going to retire to? More online solitaire? How many days can I golf? You know, scrolling more Instagram? Like, what do you retire to? So I think Pete Carroll builds cultures.
Starting point is 00:04:53 He's got, I mean, you know, the toughest thing Pete, Pete, does every day is pick out what flavor of gum he's going to chew to death. Maybe his dentist wants to retire. I don't think Pete does. So I think he's a great choice. I really do. And I think it's just different today. I joke with people on the staff. I'm kind of neurotic on what I put into my body. I'm an intentional eater. I'm taking energy this and AIG that and waking up to blueberries and cantaloupe and a bunch of nonsense. But the truth is I'm in much better shape than my mom or dad were at 61, 62 years old. And so like the whole Pete Carroll thing, The last thing I worry about Pete Carroll is age and energy.
Starting point is 00:05:30 My biggest complaint on Pete Carroll, he's too loyal, sometimes to coaches on his staff and coordinators. I think he should be less loyal to. That's my knock on Pete. He tends to be overly loyal to coaches. They're friends. He's loyal. It's probably a wonderful human trait. I don't love it all the time as a head coaching trait.
Starting point is 00:05:48 But if being young is a disqualifier for coaches, then why do Belichick, Andy Reid, and Bruce Ariens have five of the last six Super Bowl trophies? you tell me with that Danny Parkins joins us he's joining us live breakfast ball former Chicago radio host and um so listen you wanted Ben Johnson he was my second choice I'm okay with it um they've got three picks in the top 41 top five cap space Caleb's talented um what will you see because I think I want to see exorcism. I want a bear's quarterback to be good. I'm rooting for this. Will there be something that you see early that I should keep my eye on? You know the politics of that city and that team. In the first year, and forget just winning and losing. But what are you worried about that may pop up
Starting point is 00:06:47 that you've seen before that a casual observer wouldn't see? Meddling from weird places. Let the football coach coach. Let the general manager, general manager. Let them work together and let Kevin Warren, the old commissioner of the Big Ten, the team president, and George McCasky worry about the stadium. Like, let the football people do the football things. And first impressions, the press conference just ended about 30 minutes ago with Ben Johnson. It was great. He looked Caleb Williams, DJ Moore and some other players in the eye and said, get comfortable being uncomfortable. That sounded a little like Dan Campbell to me. I know the guy can call an offense. The question is, can he be the leader of men? Who knows? Winning a press conference
Starting point is 00:07:29 means absolutely nothing. Matt Nagy won his introductory press conference as an offensive guy in Chicago about five years ago. But I know you say you don't mind if the guy is old or young. I will say this, I'll take young. You know, tie goes to the young guy for me because there's the upside, there's the longevity. In theory, Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson
Starting point is 00:07:50 can be together for the next decade in Chicago. I know NFL stands for not for long, but that's the dream in Chicago, that they've finally solved this revolve. door, this constant carousel of hire a coach, a year later, draft a quarterback, two years later, fire the coach, and they're never aligned at the same time. In theory, Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams should be together in Chicago for a long, long time. Okay, I want to go back to this because I defended Matt Nagy, and my argument was he got to the playoffs twice with Mitch
Starting point is 00:08:18 Trubisky in a division where Aaron Rogers and Matt Stafford and Kirk Cousins were in their prime, and he got run out of town. So Chicago's like Boston or Philly. It is a tough, loud, passionate, outspoken city with powerful media people. So why did Matt Nagy get run out if Ben Johnson makes the playoffs twice, but he loses to Matt Lefleur in a big game? Is he going to get run out? Why did Matt? I thought Matt Nagy worked.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Well, Matt Nagy won the Coach of the Year award that should have gone to Vic Fangio. Like, Vic Fangio's defense had 36 takeaways that year where they won 12 games and lost on the double doink, and that was the peak. You know, Mitch Trubisky was a Pro Bowl all. with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, and Matt Nagy would say, you know, we're at 101 of this offense, then we're at 201, and eventually we're going to get up to doctorate levels. And they never progressed. They never got better. They never took the leap. They were never winning because of their offense.
Starting point is 00:09:15 They did make the playoffs again, you know, as the last seed, and they immediately lost. Their first playoff game didn't make any noise in the postseason, did not win a playoff game, never had a great offense, never had a dominant offense, and never progressed with the quarterback. And Matt Nagy, he brought Andy Reid's playbook to Chicago and said, okay, Mitch Trubisky, go be Patrick Mahomes, go be Alex Smith. The key that Ben Johnson spoke to today that I think the best coaches do is they bend the mission to the troops. Not to use an overly militaristic cliche, but you've got to – Jared Goss's offense should not look like Caleb Williams' offense.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Right, right. Even though Ben Johnson's the – you know, Ben Johnson's the guy calling the plays for both. So you don't have a great offensive line in Chicago. You had the best or second best offensive line in the league in Detroit. Chicago doesn't have Jemir Gibbs. They have D'Andre Swift. DeAndre Swift, good. Jamir Gibbs, top five back.
Starting point is 00:10:10 They don't have Amonra St. Brown. They have D.J. Moore. He's good, but he's not a top five guy. They line up in different places. Colquette, good. Sam Laporta, better. So the Bears and Ben Johnson, they need to bend the mission to the patrol. Okay, Caleb Williams, you can do more things on the move.
Starting point is 00:10:25 You are more athletic. you have a stronger arm. Build it around that. Ben Johnson said he will. He was going to do that. Matt Nagy said he was going to do it, but he never did. He asked Mitch Trubisky to be someone that he couldn't be. You humbly won all the football picking awards at FS1 this year. Very humble. I appreciate that. I didn't even mention it. I didn't mention 34 and 20. I didn't mention the Times Square Billboard. I didn't mention that I had a winning wildcard weekend or a divisional weekend.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I'm glad you brought it up, Colin. I wasn't going to say anything about it. Of course. You've learned from your mentor, Nick Wright, very, very well to be subtle. He had a nice second-place season. It was adorable. It was adorable second-place finish. So Bill's Chiefs, I said three weeks ago, four weeks ago, this is the best version. I'm sorry, Josh Allen's too good not to win a Super Bowl. This is a really good version. Their defense isn't great. But when you get to Super Bowls and conference championships, star quarterbacks figure out ways to win. and star defenses are not closing the door on Mahomes. I like Buffalo, but again, I was 3-0 last weekend, but again, you've been great all year.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Tell me how you view this matchup at Arrowhead, but I think in the NFL now, home field is a point, not three to four. How do you view it? Home field matters less than it's ever mattered before in the NFL. Obviously, it matters more at Arrowhead than it does at Jacksonville. I think we can give a few places in the NFL that, but that's not the reason it's going to be a winner. a loss. The truth of the matter is, these teams are as close as two teams can possibly be,
Starting point is 00:12:01 and frankly, these two quarterbacks are as close as two quarterbacks can possibly be. Josh Allen is excellent. Patrick Mahomes is excellent. They're four and four heads up against each other. They had identical point differentials this year over the course of the season. The points scored almost identical over the course of the season. So this is a game that I truly believe if you played it 10 times, the Chiefs would win five of them, the bills would win five of them. I will give the edge to Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, being at home. I will give them the edge, but it's out of respect. I'm not going to see, I got a much stronger football reasons for you in the NFC championship game. This to me just is, if it is a true coin flip and I've
Starting point is 00:12:46 got to bet heads or tails, I'll bet on the guy that seems to always figure out a way to get it done. knock, by the way, on Josh Allen, because Josh Allen's got nine touchdowns and one interception and is over 300 yards total in the losses that he has to the Chiefs. He's been breathtaking, but Andy Reid seems to always figure out a way to win, so my slight lean is to the Chiefs in the scam. You know, it's interesting with the commanders now, six-point dogs to Philadelphia. Philadelphia, and I talked to this with Tom Brady, is they're the opposite of the Patriots, where everybody talks.
Starting point is 00:13:19 The coach is barking at fans. It's just loud, but the city's loud. The city's passionate, so probably Nick Seriani fits. But I will tell you this. I used to say this. I don't think the Eagles are playing well. Now I think it's who they are. They just give lesser talented teams multiple opportunities.
Starting point is 00:13:42 The fact that the Rams, after that Pooka Nakua completion up the sideline, had a chance to win the game. Made no sense. I mean, Matt Stafford's a, bad cold weather quarterback short week roster's not close and so i look at the commanders and i think to myself they're great late they've got a mobile quarterback their quarterback's healthy i think they've got a shot i i you know like i i don't believe the chiefs are winning because they're lucky i don't believe the commanders are great late because they're lucky i think they've got a shot here do you
Starting point is 00:14:19 of course they have a shot and it's much more than the any given Sunday, anyone can win a single elimination football game, though that obviously does play a big role. I bet Philly when it opened at four and a half, it's up to six, and some places is even six and a half. I like Philadelphia, but what Washington is doing is not lucky, it's not fluky. It is, Jaden Daniels is orchestrating the best rookie quarterback season of my lifetime. He is first in rookie wins, first in total yards, first in touchdowns, second in pass the rating, second and, or second in total of touchdowns in first and completion percentage. It is first or second in every category that you care about. They are completing on fourth downs at a record rate.
Starting point is 00:15:03 He's got fourth quarter comebacks. He's been remarkable. I think he's the better quarterback in this game. I think there's an argument he's the best quarterback in the NFC. I still probably would give that to Stafford, but I think he's a top seven. quarterback in the NFL off this year alone, maybe top eight. He's right there. I can't give him top four. I heard you and Nick talking top five. Come on. Lamar, Burrow, Alan Mahomes. That's your solidified top four. And then the debate even starts at five. But Jaden Daniels is better than
Starting point is 00:15:32 Jalen Hertz. My question would be, other than that, what else is Washington better than Philadelphia at? And I think maybe you could give them a slight edge in coaching if you don't trust Nick Siriani in a big spot. I'll concede that. That's fine. But Kellyn Moore and Vic Fangio have been very good. He's more of a CEO coach anyway in Philly. I think everything else, including home field, favors Philadelphia. So that's why I'm laying the points with the Eagles. Breakfast ball, Danny Parkins, co-host of that show.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Also, former Chicago Insider. We appreciate you and the champion and the picks champion of, I'm taking Buffalo and I think the commanders, I may flip on the commanders. I'm just going to wait to the number. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. We're on opposite sides.
Starting point is 00:16:17 And by the way, who do you think? You know, because they told me that I was coming on after Brady. Be honest. Who's more handsome? Here, Brady. Listen, you know, the TV don't lie. Tom's good-looking. I'm just going to tell you right there.
Starting point is 00:16:28 He's pretty good-looking. All right. I'll concede that one. I'll concede that. I'll concede that. I appreciate you conceding then. Enjoy the games, Colin. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Danny Parkins. Yeah, it's, yeah, I think I'm going to go Buffalo. I'm going to go, Washington. I'm just going to wait. There's always something that. comes up on Thursday night or Friday morning before I do my picks, there's always a number. You see a line. You see something that makes me think it.
Starting point is 00:16:54 So we'll see. Well, two quick things. Number one, Eagles are doing a walkthrough. Hertz is present. And Quinyon Mitchell, the cornerback who hurt his shoulder. That's a big get back. He is present too. Yeah, he's there.
Starting point is 00:17:03 It doesn't say if he's practicing, but he's at the walkthrough. The other one, what is this FS1 NFL picks thing you were telling Danny about? Was I not invited to that? It was just like an exclusive club, or am I too good at gamble? By the way, sorry about Duquesne last night. They got smoked. That I just didn't get invited to the NFL. Well, you know, they sort of took the baton and they made it to competition.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I was not aware of it until later in the season. We didn't enter, did we? Well, we didn't. I'm glad I didn't. Let's make it a full company thing next year, assuming, you know. Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'll be quiet. Okay, whatever.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Okay. Nick Saban says he'd rather coach in the NFL than college. I'll talk about that coming up. Next, Mark Sanchez is on the show today as well. And just how long has it been since the Cowboys got to an NFC championship? I will give you a couple of examples of how long it's been. Winters officially here, snow, ice, wind, slush, driving's a challenge, braking's a challenge. It is all a challenge.
Starting point is 00:18:01 I am looking right now at the weather in the south. Forget Chicago. snowstorms in Sarasota and Jacksonville. Wow. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within the IHeart radio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:18:38 We just contributed to a podcast. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide. of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
Starting point is 00:19:09 where people could call in and say, Hey Jonas. and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and Head, writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between
Starting point is 00:19:44 songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
Starting point is 00:20:01 We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapulted Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come
Starting point is 00:20:25 across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions,
Starting point is 00:21:19 the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlic on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. So it's interesting. Nick Saban, who now does an excellent job for the other place on their college football stuff,
Starting point is 00:21:55 legendary coach, greatest college football coach of all time, was talking about all the changes in the transfer portal. He came out yesterday and said two things. One, I think Dion Sanders should coach the Dallas Cowboys. The second thing he said was, I'd rather be an NFL coach than a college coach with all. all the changes. And this is something my friends and I've talked about for years. I think it's all your personality. So I think there's advantages to the NFL, which is in college, you're constantly replacing everybody.
Starting point is 00:22:20 You know, you're replacing your assistance. They want to be coordinators, your coordinators. You're recruiting your own players. You're recruiting other players. It's just constant recruiting to keep people and bring people in. In the NFL, because they have coaching pensions, that you'll lose a coordinator from time to time. But a guy, you know, your assistants are making 1.9 million.
Starting point is 00:22:39 million with a coaching pension. A lot of these old-time guys, the O-line coaches, D-line coaches, you can keep those guys forever. You also don't have to do high school recruiting or NIL recruiting. The GM takes care of the free agent recruiting. So the NFL coach and college coach, you know, the NFL coach on average makes more, but not much more than the biggest coaches at Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame, and those sort of levels. I don't like one thing about college. and that is the constant need to kiss butt to recruits and tell them how great they are. You just have to show them more love than Georgia did or Alabama. I think that would get old, just constant conciliatory to the NCAA, the boosters, the donors, your AD, the kids.
Starting point is 00:23:25 It's like it's always green, no yellow, never stop. It's just go, go, go, constantly having to sell yourself in the program. In the NFL, I got to talk about football. The downside, there's probably five great jobs in the NFL, because to have a great job in the NFL, you have to have a non-meddling owner and a star quarterback. And it helps if it's a superstar quarterback, and there's about five jobs that are great. Matt Lefleur, because he doesn't have an owner, Andy Reid's got one, John Harbaugh's got one, Sean McDermott's got one, and Sean McVeigh has one. And that is 16% of the league. That's about it.
Starting point is 00:24:01 I will say that the college football playoff now, which is going to explain. band from 12 to 14 and maybe 16, that is going to get college coaches paid more because it's going to be harder to fire guys if they say, well, I've made the playoffs and won a game or two in the playoffs, eight straight years. And so I think the playoff actually ensures a longer runway for the coaches at the very best jobs. I mean, Marcus Freeman just got Notre Dame into a nanny. Even Notre, I mean, you couldn't even, even, even if he had back to the job, back bad seasons. You're not getting rid of Marcus Freeman. He got him into a nattie. So I think the impulsiveness of the NFL is now worse than college, and the playoff will
Starting point is 00:24:44 help college coaches as long as the big dogs can get, though. And the other thing to remember is the NFL mandates competition. In college football, the better you are, the more NIL money you attract and the better recruits you get. So college football is built for powerhouses. The NFL has had a couple in Brady and Mahomes, but largely they're trying to mandate and smush everybody to the middle, and your impulsive owner who's now worth $9 billion, not one, will blow out a staff. It'll be a rounding error to get rid of all you guys. So I don't think there's a better.
Starting point is 00:25:20 It's personality-based. I would choose NFL just because the constant pandering you have to do to everybody from donors to high schoolers to me would just wear me out. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, Colin, we got to go back to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Listen, I'm not going to shy away from it. I'm sick of the Chiefs. They're very good, they're dominant, great coach, great quarterback, but it feels like the ball just magically always bounces their way. Seven straight appearance in the AFC championship game. But hey, guess what? I'm not the only one fed up with these guys. Check this out from Marlon Humphrey, quarterback.
Starting point is 00:26:02 All right. of the Baltimore Ravens. I have no reason of saying this other than being a hater. The bills or whatever NFC team got to beat the Chiefs. We can't keep let... Sorry, we can't
Starting point is 00:26:14 let them keep getting away with this. Getting away with winning. No, no, no, getting away with you know what. It's the Chiefs Against the World. They've really become Shaq Kobe. It wasn't that the Lakers had the two best finishers, the best perimeter finisher, and the best big man finisher. No, it was the Rouse.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Well, no, no, stop. Come on, I love those Shaq Kobe teams. Now, they were phenomenal to watch. I was on the East Coast as a Laker fan. So you weren't threatened by them. You don't like the Chiefs in the AFC dominating, and your jets are a doormat. Well, that's obvious.
Starting point is 00:26:46 The Jets have been a doormat since Sanchez walked out the door, basically. But I don't know, it does, you have to admit, it feels like the vibes are everybody's rooting Buffalo. Yeah, but everybody's always rooting against the dynasty. Yeah, this was... The only dynasty of my life that people did not root against me. There's been one, Michael Jordan. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:27:06 What are you talking about? I mean, New Yorkers rooted against him. But most people in America love the Bulls. Why? Because Michael Jordan was the coolest player and the best player. No, it's because there was like no internet, no social media. You just didn't know what everybody around the country thought, because now everybody's got a microphone and they could just pop off about whatever.
Starting point is 00:27:23 I went to half a dozen Jordan games live. People cheered when he scored in Atlanta, in L.A., in Portland. They do that for Korea. they do that for LeBron. People are in the lower bowl in Memphis. People are not cheering for LeBron in Boston when he scores. Well, not Boston, but in Memphis, you go that people show up early to watch LeBron, the greatest player in NBA history, warm up.
Starting point is 00:27:44 They do this for Curry. Like, I think they love those guys around the country. I don't think anybody goes to the stadium early to watch Mahomes warm up. People are rooting against the Chiefs. They're sick of this dynasty. It is a dynasty. I'll tell you this. I think this is a little jealousy about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey's Torrid.
Starting point is 00:28:02 love affair. And I like Taylor Swift. You know, I went to the concert. I saw Caitlin Clark in the booth. I texted my wife and daughter. And they instantly turned the game on to look for daily. People are into this. Monday is going to be fun on this show if the Buffalo Bills win. Probably a funeral. Well, no, no, I'm picking Buffalo and I like Buffalo. I told you Buffalo Lions was the perfect Super Bowl. But I got friends in the building in Kansas City, so it's not going to break my heart if they win. I think I like to see people that do a really good job, get rewarded. and I think Baltimore and Buffalo do a really good job at what they do, ownership down, so I'd like to see them get rewarded.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I root for people who put the time in and the brain power in and are successful to ultimately get the trophy. What's your guest, Eagles, Washington? Is it similar to Chiefs' bills in a massive split, or is it kind of 50-50, you know? I don't think Washington has a fan base outside of D.C. Well, I just wonder if this Jaden Daniels, he is exciting. They've won seven straight. like, I wonder if there is a... I'm trying to see Jake Daniels in the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:29:04 I am trying to think in the history of professional football in America if there's ever been a story like the commanders. They flush out everybody in the building, bringing a rookie quarterback, and he beats all the Titans
Starting point is 00:29:18 on the road to get to a Super Bowl. That's never happened in league history. Mahomes didn't play its first year. And it couldn't get past Tom Brady when he did early. Do you remember that game? When Tom left the AFC, he was allowed to win the AFC.
Starting point is 00:29:32 How about this? Toronto Raptors, the year they won their fraudulent title, they had been always just a doormat to LeBron. They bring in Kauai Leonard, okay? And Kauai hits that game seven shot. But they had been, Toronto's always viable. They were always good, but they never broke through. Washington was the most poorly owned team in the league.
Starting point is 00:29:50 There was a smell around that organization. The stench. Oh, boy. Yes, for sure. Speaking of stenches, Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat, it's getting ugly. but it's also getting super interesting. Jimmy Butler returned last night from his suspension
Starting point is 00:30:04 and also tripled down on his trade demand. Well, guess what happened also last night? The Phoenix Suns traded a 2,031 first round pick for three future firsts, giving the Suns the ammo they need to go get Butler. Now, I've been talking to Suns fans. I'm trying to understand. This could be like a 14 trade
Starting point is 00:30:24 because you've got to reroute Bradley Beale somewhere. There's talk that Milwaukee will then move off Chris Middleton. Here are the shoes you see on this one that Butler wore elastic Phoenix Sun's colors. Yeah. But the idea of Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker together, is a good team. Pretty formidable. Now, Bradley Beal, I will say I was wrong.
Starting point is 00:30:43 He's been disappointed. Total disaster. I did just look at the odds. Just to make the playoffs, the Phoenix Suns, as of right now, it moved. It was plus 100. Now explain that to the fans. Right. So you could have got plus months.
Starting point is 00:31:00 on the Sons to make the playoffs. Now they're minus 105, so it's not as good. Bet $100, $100 to win $100. The Sons are going to make the playoffs with Butler, that's for sure. Yeah. And my hot take on this is he walks into that locker room and who's the alpha in the Phoenix Sun's locker room? Jimmy Butler.
Starting point is 00:31:16 There it is. And how is Durant going to handle that? I know Booker's been there forever. Durant, he doesn't care about that. Booker's never got anything until Chris Paul showed up. No, no. We like Booker as a score. I love it.
Starting point is 00:31:26 But he's more Clay Thompson than he is face of the franchise. and that's not a knock. He's an accessory and a great one. Durant? I think Durant doesn't have the need to be the alpha. I just think he likes to be part of a cool collective. He likes to ball. And I think Jimmy Butler comes in and gives them a better defender than Beal,
Starting point is 00:31:48 a tougher, a bigger athlete. He walks in. Hey, I got the heat to the finals. What have you done, KD, without the Warriors? Why do you make it? Because that's Jimmy Butler style, man. He don't mess around, Colin. I'm a huge Butler fan.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Dating back to his story is incredible. Well, Jimmy Butler's never played with anybody as good as Kevin Durant. There you go. So Kevin Durant can say, you think this is Ben Simmons you're talking to? You think I'm Tyler Hero? You're talking to K.D. Some respect on that name. Final story is Jaden Daniels has taken the NFL by Storm and has continued to the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:32:21 He was masterful against Tampa and amazing against Detroit. Eagles, D.C. Vic Fongio, isn't overlooking. The Youngster. How about this one? He's a young quarterback by a birth certificate, not by the tape. You know, the guy's playing extremely well. You could tell how much they think he's playing, you know, so good by the volume of their offense and the things they trust him to do. And he's come through for them in a big way.
Starting point is 00:32:54 And he's tough to handle. Yeah, he's a real deal. I know we tend to be a little skeptical of a rookie quarterback doing things, and C.J. Stroud, you know, he went back, but that's because the Texans had major injuries to their skill players, and their own line wasn't as good. C.J. Stroud, when he was protected and at home, was still very good. C.J. Stroud did not lose that game against the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:33:17 The special teams lost that game against the Chiefs. So we can say that C.J. Stroud pulled back, but he was very, very good when he had decent levels of protection and his primary assets on the perimeter. I'm trying to get psychologically into Daniel's third meeting with the Eagles. By now they've seen everything he has. There is the narrative that's kind of been shattered about Cliff Kingsbury. As the season goes on, his play calling gets a little suspect.
Starting point is 00:33:41 That's out. No, he's actually been better. Yeah. I just, it's a tall order for Daniels going on the road. But we said that last week. I mean, just sometimes I think about before something happens, can you see the headline? average commander's roster
Starting point is 00:33:59 heading to the Super Bowl there is a huge gap in football between getting to a conference championship Andrew Luck and a bad Colts roster got to a conference championship and got crushed I think by New England. The two artist games you play and the two best teams you play all year are in the conference championship in the Super Bowl. A lot of forgettable
Starting point is 00:34:22 teams have gotten to a conference championship to win that game in the Super Bowl, I just can't see the commanders hoisting a trophy. It's just too unlikely. So you were a college basketball fan in the 80s. Do you remember Danny Manning's Kansas Jayhawks? Very well. Danny and the Miracles.
Starting point is 00:34:38 He basically took a rag-tag group and they won the national chain. It was an amazing run. Look it up on YouTube. That's the only parallel I can think up for Jane Daniels. Colin, go look at their defensive numbers on pro football focus. Their defensive line's been crap all years. They got a rookie quarterback from Michigan.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Lattimore, they just got from the Saints. You know what it feels like? They don't have a lot of guys. You know what it feels like that Bears team with Jay Cutler that got to the NFC championship? Is that the game where Cutler kind of got hurt, but it didn't look bad and he refused to go back in? Yeah, and it's like really forgettable team. There are forgettable teams that have gotten to conference championships. Super Bowl teams?
Starting point is 00:35:13 They're not a lot. I mean, there was a Stan Humphrey's team that got to the Super Bowl with the Chargers. They lost like 56 teams. Yeah, I mean, that was like one of those, like how did they get here? The Natron Means was either. running back? I don't know if anybody. I mean, you get, I mean, listen, Nick Foles Eagles, not a great
Starting point is 00:35:29 defense, had kind of a, how the heck did this happen. So it happens, but I mean Washington's roster is not good. And Jaden Daniels going to New Orleans for the Super Bowl would be interesting because he played at?
Starting point is 00:35:45 Jaden Daniels? Yeah, didn't he finish at LSU? Yeah, yeah. By the way, Blake Bordels got a Jags team. They had Ramsey. They had Fulnet at his peak. No, they had some talent, but they moved off Blake, and they moved off winning soon after that. J-Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. J-Lab has the best audio products in the game. It's always in a blue box. You can get it. Walmart Best Buy. Headphones are unbelievable.

Starting point is 00:37:37 Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
Starting point is 00:38:07 one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say,
Starting point is 00:38:20 Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notes. Notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends.

Starting point is 00:39:07 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen, kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come
Starting point is 00:39:35 across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. is somebody coming after me. Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Starting point is 00:41:14 and help people recover from this disaster. So earlier Danny Parkins pushback on Jaden Daniels may be being the top five quarterback in the NFL. But I, I do. think we have four that are established, you know, Mahomes, Alan, Burrow, and Lamar Jackson are established. Not everybody's going to hoist trophies. And then I think you get into five, and a lot of people would say Stafford, I would. But if you considered everything, if you were starting a franchise today, you're the GM. Age, health, salary. I think you've got an argument. You'd pick Jaden Daniels. The great stock pickers in America, don't pick it when the stock is at $80 a share.
Starting point is 00:41:57 They find it at $2 a share. So, I mean, part of the attractiveness with Jaden Daniels, no bad habits to correct, very inexpensive for the next four years, he's got his health. Like, this is going to be the worst roster
Starting point is 00:42:11 Jaden Daniels plays for on his first contract. Here's what Tom Brady said earlier, what blows him away about Jaden Daniels. He is tremendous poison the pocket. He's calm, under the chaos of being an NFL quarterback. They were blitzing him the other night,
Starting point is 00:42:29 the lions were he's standing in the pocket, waiting the very last second, a lot like Patrick does in so many ways, and then delivers the ball accurately to his receivers. Some players need production to become confident. Some people become confident before they have any production. That's a great trait to have as an athlete. Before you walk on the field, you're confident.
Starting point is 00:42:53 you don't need to complete your first five passes to become confident. And I think that's what I see in a young Jane Daniels. That's a really good thought. Okay, do we have the breaking bar? It should be in green, not red. We have a new coach for the New York Jets. Aaron Glenn, defensive man. I think he's impressive.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Former Jett. I think he was a scout for the team for a while. I don't have a problem with it. I think of all the job openings this year. There were six or seven. I think the Jets have the best roster. I don't think it's a bad, I mean, it just came out of a great culture. So I don't have a problem with it.
Starting point is 00:43:32 I think we tend to look at offensive coordinators as the future of the NFL. And I would prefer if I had a young quarterback. Generally, I'd prefer an offensive coach. But Washington's got Dan Quinn, and they hired a great coordinator. So it can be done. DeBico Ryan's with C.J. Stroud. defensive coach, Sean McDermott. He went from Brian Daybolt.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Now they got Joe Brady. So, I mean, it can be done. I mean, let's be honest. John Harbaugh is not an offensive coach. And Sean McDermott's not an offensive coach. And Dan Quinn isn't. And they were around last weekend. Tomiko Ryans was around last weekend.
Starting point is 00:44:11 And if I was the Raiders, I think I'd hire Pete Carroll. So I don't have a problem with it. I think, again, we're seeing defensive coaches. with young quarterbacks succeed. And I also think this organization has made a pivot. Whether or not Aaron Rogers is in the building, he will not control things. He's not going to tell them, go get me this, this, this, this. They don't care.
Starting point is 00:44:33 There is a new sheriff in town. It's Aaron Glenn. I like the hire. I don't have a problem with it. I mean, I thought Vrable was an excellent hire. I mean, so far, I think the hires have been pretty shrewd. I mean, my opinion, Vrable is exactly who New England should have hired. had Ben Johnson number two on my list, but by all accounts, that's a smart hire.
Starting point is 00:44:55 I think if Pete Carroll goes to the Raiders, that's an excellent hire. I don't have a problem with this hire at all. They weren't going to get Ben Johnson. So, okay, and they weren't going to get Vrable. So I like the hire. I don't have a problem with it. I mean, Aaron, I called somebody last night, and he thought this was going to happen, and nothing but good things to say about Aaron Glenn.
Starting point is 00:45:17 And this is a good team. This is a good roster. You know, you can say what you want about Robert Sala. They got way worse after Robert Sala left. So let me read this. Okay, this is interesting. This is Adam Schaefter. The Jets have now hired seven head coaches since the end of 2000 season.
Starting point is 00:45:37 So in fairness, that is 25 years. And with Aaron Glenn, six of them have been first-time head coaches with defensive backgrounds. Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles, Robert Sala, Glenn. Now, Herm Edwards had some success. Eric Mangini early had some success. Rex Ryan had some success. Bulls, Sala, didn't. The lone exception was Adam Gase, and that was the biggest mess.
Starting point is 00:46:04 So I am offensive coach guy, but not in all cases. I think Vrable is a good hire. J. Mack, your reaction. So I wasn't super positive on this earlier this week. remember when it seemed like it was trending this way. I got to be honest, I'm a Jets fan. I've been rooting for this team for a long time. You remember the Aaron Rogers stuff.
Starting point is 00:46:29 I did not want Rogers. I did not want Rogers. When they got him, all right, let's go, Rogers. Let's get us to the playoffs. So I'm on board with the Aaron Glenn higher. I just had to go on YouTube. Do you remember the Dan Marino fake strike touchdown pass against the Jets? 1994.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Do you remember the cornerback who was victimized on that play? Aaron Glenn, my God. He was good player. It was excellent, yeah. So listen, I'm going to be positive, and you're right. They have a good roster, but there is a lot of crap. You've got to clean out of that roster. A lot of garbage.
Starting point is 00:46:56 What garbage do you have to clean out? Do you want to start under center? You want to start with the quarterback? Okay. Let's talk about he's the best available guy in the market. So let's move off Aaron Rogers. Alan Lazard's contract's a little pricey for me. If I could move off that, I would.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Tyrone Smith, that's done. Okay, but you already have a left tackle. We hope he got injured, the kid from Penn State. By the way, I don't have the Jets picks in front of me. Do they have all of them? I think they have all of them. They definitely have their first round pick. Devante Adams, I assume, is out the door with Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:47:27 And by the way, the Jets don't have, it's not a great quarterback class, so they don't have an immediate need. So, Colin, the real problem with the Jets is their window was last year. Now you're on the cusp. Breece Hall, who underwhelmed last year, going to be looking for a contract soon. He's going to show out. Garrett Wilson, he wants a contract. Sauce Gardner. Now they're not up yet.
Starting point is 00:47:48 But the window is shrinking before you have to pay all these young, talented guys that are on the roster. So, and without a quarterback, I just don't see any reason. Now, Aaron, no, let's be positive. Aaron had a good seven of his last eight weeks. He's not the future. He is 15th best quarterback in the league. Okay, that's fine. I don't, I, all I'm going to say is this, of the coaching vacancies,
Starting point is 00:48:16 New England doesn't have this roster. Saints don't have this roster, and the Saints have Cap Hell coming up. This team has some space. They do have a quarterback who played well down the stretch. They've got, they have six elite players. Quinn and Williams, Sauce Gardner,
Starting point is 00:48:32 the young linebacker they like, I think Brees Hall, Garrett Wilson, Devonte Adams, and the tight end from Penn State's going to be elite this year. The left tackle from Penn State. Left my back. So Colin, here's the thing. Without a quarterback, you really don't have much. The last time that when they hired Rex Ryan,
Starting point is 00:48:47 as head coach, they traded up and got Mark Sanchez and they went to back-to-back AFC championship games. Is there a world where the Jets can dangle something to the Titans and go up and get Cam Ward? I'm willing to move off, Suss Gardner. I'm going to move off Garrett Wilson. Let me say this. Let me throw this out there, is that the Jets also, the good thing about having the number seven pick is you have that pick at the top of every round.
Starting point is 00:49:16 So remember. So Ryan, by the way, do the Jets have a second round pick? I believe they do. I think it was last year they lost it in the Rogers trade. I'm going to make a prediction that the Jets try to move down from the number seven spot. They won't have a ton of success doing that. Okay, it says they have a round two pick or a third conditional raiders. So I don't know what they have this morning.
Starting point is 00:49:45 but they have a third, fourth, two, five, two, five, two sixes. Who do you want? Don't tell me. I'll tell you right now. If I ran the Jets, number one, I would move down with a seven pick. I don't think, if they had the four they could, I don't think they can at seven. So they're going to go out, you know what they're going to go out and get? They're probably going to go out and get.
Starting point is 00:50:05 I would guess, I don't think he'll be available. No, T-Mack, the receiver won't be available. Okay, let me throw it out here. I'll throw it out. Mason Graham, who I think is the third best player in the draft, the defensive tackle, is going to be in that 6-7-8 spot. He will start day one and be an impact player. I think they'd move down, but if they could get Mason Graham, I would take him.
Starting point is 00:50:30 Next to Quinn and Williams in the middle. I think it would, and that, by the way, in the NFL, if you talk to executives, the interior D-line has now superseded the end as the place to have your talent. Second pick, if they have a second, I don't know if they, If they do keep your eye on Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord. All right. Well, yeah, I get that. Well, I'll get a little hotter than that.
Starting point is 00:50:55 This is really rich at seven. But we've seen now four mobile quarterbacks are left in the playoffs. Mobile quarterbacks are winning. Tom Brady talked about quarterbacks leaving the pocket. Why not kick the tires on Jalen Milrow at seven? I know that's a little rich. And people are going to say no. But if you want to keep Rogers, Milro sits for a year the way Patrick Mahomes did.
Starting point is 00:51:15 and Milrow then takes over as your quarterback in a year. He's mobile. He can make things happen. That's kind of a reach, but I like him. It is a little reach. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
Starting point is 00:51:27 I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:51:37 We get to ask other people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. but, you know, tired and sick, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
