It's aggressively moving it around today. New shampoo, perhaps? No. I don't shampoo on Sundays. Excuse me? Come again? I use shampoo one day a week. That's all?

Yeah, your hair needs oils. It's good for your... Once a week? Yeah. Wow, I'm like an every other day guy. You'll be bald in about 45 minutes. I go away for, I go away for like four days. That's it.

I didn't see you for four days and you're like a whole new person now. Well, no, it's just I think, you know how I am. I'm kind of... Corky? Whatever. But I just, I don't use shampoo once a week. Okay. We'll have to take a poll.

And by the way, barely any. Up here, it's an oil slick. I want it oily and, yeah. I'm just telling you this, you got to take, you got to be out there a little bit with yourself. So what are you going to do during football season? Because, I mean, Sundays are tough. At the end of the day, you're exhausted. Can you even get the full flow going in the massage of the shampoo?

I'll worry about it when it happens when that challenge surfaces. Look it out for you, pal. All right. So Brandon Ayuk, according to a report, Mike Garof, says that the Niners and Brandon Ayuk are close. You know, I have said I thought San Francisco peaked last year, and I said that before this noisy off season. Now, only four years ago, the Niners missed the playoffs.

Remember, the Rams were ascending. They were a playoff team. They had a couple of key injuries, Bosa and Jimmy Garoppolo, and they had just lost the Super Bowl, a little bit of a hangover, and they did not make the playoffs. and the NFC was weakening. There's five reasons I'm concerned about the Niners this year, and I think all of them, I think the Rams are winning the division.

The number one thing I'm concerned about with the 49ers, it has been an incredibly noisy off season, and I don't love that. I've been on that for years. I don't love noisy teams. Number two is they're an old roster. They have more players 30 or older than anybody in the NFL. Like, that's an issue. older players get hurt more often and recover more slowly.

The third reason, Weren-Taron Christian McCaffrey. The last time he had back-to-back seasons with over 300 carries, the next year he got 300 touches, excuse me, he got hurt. I mean, he's like a pitcher going 275s innings. Like I just, arm fatigue. You can't lean on him like they're leaning on him. He's getting up there. Number four, I think the Rams are really good.

I think they have the better quarterback, a younger roster. Again, young players get hurt less. When they do, they recover more quickly. I think the Rams are with seven or eight to nine players just moving into their prime. Plus McVeigh and Stafford are next to Andy Reed and Mahomes, the best coach quarterback combo in the league. And then number five is, I think the getting was good the last couple of years. I think the NFC is now younger and better. Packers, last two years, weren't a Super Bowl threat.

They are now. Lions, Super Bowl threat. Rams to me, Super Bowl threat. Philadelphia, if the coordinators are improved. Super Bowl threat. Dallas, viable. I think the NFC, even the teams like Washington, watch out. Arizona?

I watched them six times last year. They played hard. The Bears, no more, no more, you know, 21 points and four turnovers. So if the Vikings finished fourth in that division, they got pro bowlers all over the offense. So I'm concerned with San Francisco. I, you know, I don't like paying receivers $30 million a year, but the NFC's better. McCaffrey, at some point, you just can't keep 300 touches. I looked at their schedule, by the way, this morning. They're going to get some wins early. It's an old team returning and facing a lot of teams with new players like New England.

The Jets have, you know, some new offensive linemen, Arizona. But from, you know, from, Week, Sunday, October 20th, Kansas City, until Monday, December 30th, it is a lot of Mahomes and and Dak and Baker and Jordan Love and Josh Allen and Caleb Williams and Matt Stafford and Tua and that offense in Miami and Jared Goff. And remember, San Francisco's an old team. You start getting into October, November, December, old teams get banged up. I mean, the Niners, the last three years have had stretches with multiple players hurt. They're not getting younger.

And they're already banged up in training camp. They had to literally, two days ago, they're like, we can't even practice with the Saints. We're too banged up. This is an old team. And with that, we go to Eric Mangini live in New York, Jets, Browns, Head Coach, Fox Sports. So, I mean, it's interesting. Old teams have an advantage early. You're not teaching guys' tricks.

Old teams can fall apart late. Any of my Niner concerns do you land that you were? because I do think even great teams peak and I felt like, boy, they're old guys, kiddle, Trent, they're long in the tooth. What say you?

Yeah, a couple of your concerns really had. The fact that they're an old team, that's real, and that's been statistically proven over time that the amount of injuries with older teams mount up and the younger teams, not only do they not get as injured, but they get better as the season.

goes on as opposed to getting worse. I would say the Christian McCaffrey concern is real as well. The reason he's in San Francisco is because he couldn't stay healthy in Carolina, and he's been remarkably healthy since he's gotten to San Francisco, but it's hard to imagine that trend's going to continue. Now, that being said, the 49ers over the last decade have been the most injured team in the league. They've had the most guys miss games,

but last year was their best year of that decade. finished out of the bottom 10 in the NFL last season. So maybe they're getting a little bit better and figuring some of those things out in terms of keeping the guys healthy. I don't totally agree with the noisy offseason. I get it with Iuke. I get it with Trent Williams. But there's always going to be contract disputes,

especially if you have this success that they've had. It's not been terrible. Here's the thing that the big question, Mark, and the thing that saves them is, is it Brock Purdy is the real deal, then they're going to be competitive for a Super Bowl for a long time. And everybody's trying to figure out whether or not the guy that we've seen is a function of the coaching staff and the talent he has, or whether or not he's on that Tom Brady unheralded trajectory

that we've seen happen once in the past. So the rookie quarterbacks, I thought Drake May was not. as impressive, but going into this season, he's not as refined. The Caleb stuff, you know, it's funny, as a coach who knew personnel, you hit on draft picks, you knew them. It doesn't, I always said, I used to watch American Idol. I could tell within 12 seconds, and I don't know anything about music, I'd be like, terrible, lounge singer, wow.

I could tell, I don't know music, is that I watched Caleb Williams make one or two plays, one or two runs, and I was like, yeah, I've seen enough. I get it. And that's my interpretation. Like you can see magic from a pass rusher, a receiver. I remember Jamar Chase's first game. I'm like, yep, that works. He's good.

What did you make of the young quarterbacks? But let's start with Caleb Williams. I would say if I was a Chicago Bears fan, I'd be really excited. I'd be really optimistic. I'm sure season ticket sales have continued to improve, jersey sales, all those things. Because you've got to see the upside of Caleb Williams. You've got to see some of the wild plays, some of the plays. some of the plays that he makes with his feet,

some of the off-platform-type plays that he's capable of. I like the fact that he slid on his run. I thought that was encouraging as well. There weren't false starts. There weren't quarterback-center exchange problems, delay of games. You didn't have the operational stuff. So all those things were really positive. I'm curious, and I've said this over and over again,

my concern is that he's going to try to make a play all the time. and that that will catch up that'll catch up to you that the guys are too good in the NFL they hit harder they close faster they anticipate better so as long as he doesn't have to play hero ball all the time and will will truly understand that it's okay to live to fight another day and throw the ball away and have a long long career that to me is my biggest concern with Caleb but really optimistic about what you saw in this limited exposure so I want to want to talk about Bo Nix, who, and I've said this, I think Caleb Williams is good enough to overcome maybe a bad coach. He'll still be productive. I think the rest of these guys are situational. I don't think Bo Nix could go to a defensive coach that didn't have a feel or a bad offensive line. I think he and Sean Payton is like, that's where he needed to go. So I was kind of blown away. He made a throw down near the end zone. And I was like, oh, that's a real throw. It's a snap throw quick.

I was impressed with Bownecks. You're a coach. What did you see? What I was most impressed by and really most surprised by is the fact that Sean let him throw 21 times. Yeah. I mean, you typically don't get a rookie quarterback in his first preseason game throwing the ball that many times.

And over the course of the throws that he had to make, he was pretty efficient. He looked in control. There were some times where I thought he left the pocket a little bit earlier than he had to. But Sean obviously went into the game, and said, we're going to take a long look at him, and we're not going to go in and have him hand off two times

and then throw a screen pass. We're going to see what he can do. And I thought he did a really nice job for his first exposure. But in fairness, Zach Wilson, I think was seven for nine. So both guys had a pretty good outing for the first exposure. It's going to be interesting to see as we get to this next game, where there's a little bit more game planning, a little bit more variety from the defense, asked a little bit more in terms of what you're giving

them offensively, whether or not we see that same level of efficiency. You know, I read a study years ago about Facebook. People when Facebook came out would go and they'd rekindle with their high school or their college flame. And, you know, people that they'd been out with and the study said that there's a reason you left somebody and that Facebook made you feel like, oh, I'm back in high school or college and we do that we tend to forget the bad we remember the good times in relationships and i watched just in field that i'm like i'm trying to be so

optimistic i really am and i watched him with pittsburgh and i'm like this is why he drove me crazy i can't handle the snap what did you make of it yeah i i get that analogy but i do think some relationships can be more toxic than others and and sometimes if you if you get out of a bad one and get into a good one things can look totally different and and this is a this is a really outstanding opportunity for for Justin Fields but it's it's not all going to get fixed at once and and Justin was sacked 135 times over his first three seasons he averaged 10 picks a year over the over that time period and and there's some some problems that he's got to work through you saw the upside

and then there's the quarterback center exchange problems where you're you're just you're just frustrated and you want more from from him who's played in a ton of games but in fairness we haven't seen Russ either and and he really benefited he benefited from having the exposure but he also is getting downgraded because we didn't see how Russ would have done in in that same scenario and whether he would add problems with that same center or not so it's let's let's give him some time and and and again I say have a Justin Fields package every single game, an extensive package, and let him play in addition to having Russell Wilson play.

So I was watching just clips. I didn't get to see it live because I was busy entertaining America on this show. But I was watching... You weren't busy shampooing your hair, from what I understand. That only happens weekly, not wasting a lot of time on that. So be quiet, J. Mack. Don't encourage him. so I was watching clips of Aaron on WFA and in New York, real popular morning show. And there was a moment

I thought it was so funny. And it was an earnest question. They let a producer ask a question to Aaron Rogers. I guess he'd been itching to ask Aaron, the franchise quarterback for the Jets a question. And the producer asked the question,

the Malaysian airliner that went down, do you think possibly and they started going into some internet conspiracy and I thought I would be mortified if I went on a popular show and it was labeled essentially as a guy that buys into conspiracy theories

and I just thought Aaron's become 50% quarterback 50% podcast guest and I thought this is not where you want to be what do you just make of where he is now I really, I was really high on Aaron Rogers going to the Jets and obviously I went through that experience with Brett Farb going to the Jets when I was there and I think he can be really good. It's just I'm so frustrated with all the other stuff that he's bringing.

And Brett was great when we had him. He was, you know, he was part of the team. He was willing to do whatever we asked him to do. Yeah. He wanted to be treated like everybody else. And with Aaron, it's always something. It's, it's, it's, uh, mandatory minicap, you know, that's just an OTA. That the preseason games, that's not real football.

It's, it's whatever he thinks at the moment is absolutely right and is absolutely the way it should be. And then things can't be as they appear. They have to be some sort of diabolical plot from the deep state to, to overthrow the government or create world domination. I don't get it. I think he's bright. I just don't get why he has to go there. You know, everybody's entitled to their opinion and their thoughts. I just don't know if this is the most productive thing for them to win football games this year.

You know, I have a theory on that. Never married, no kids, extra time on the phone. The two other conspiracy theorists I think of, that I kind of know, Never married no kids. My wife, if I suggested to my wife, the Malaysian airliner was a conspiracy, she'd say sleep on the couch or move. So, you know, again, it's when you control your own world and your own narratives and you don't sacchar- And I know fans like say, oh, it doesn't matter, but it's like at some point, this stuff is, is, it feels silly. And he's not a silly person.

It just feels silly, right? It does, and he's not a silly person. He obviously is very bright, but also when you're idolized for so long and when you're you've been elevated because of the things that you've been able to achieve athletically, sometimes we can all get a little bit infatuated with our own ideas and our own thoughts. And it's really healthy to take a step back and listen to what other people have to say. and be open to that. By the way, not to get personal.

When's the last time you had to sleep on the couch? I'm away so often that I think that helps. J-Mack. J-Mack's been enjoying this whole thing. Shots at my hair, personal questions. I barely recognize you with that new hairdo, Colin. It's not a new hairdo. It's not a hairdo. It's not a hairdo. It's just the comb work today.

That's all it is. You guys are making it sound like. all that oil in there it probably just sits differently you're making it sound like I had a renaissance in santropay over the weekend it the comb moved to the left more than the right that's the whole thing okay well it looks good on you yeah sure thanks I appreciate that Eric Manjean all right the um yeah you see you you started that thing you just lit a match and threw it into the campfire now it's an inferno every guest has to you know you know I made my as a disruptor in the sports media.

You did. So now I'm disrupting this flow of preseason NFL info. What did you exactly disrupt? All right, the Buffalo Bills have moved on from Stefan Diggs, their top receiver. Also, Gabe Davis, number two guy, he's gone. But they drafted a felon in Keon Coleman, who's been kind of buzzing. on social media, second round pick. Funny. Very talented. Josh Allen is raving about this young receiver. I thought he was kind of a mix between like a Michael Thomas and a Des Bryant.

Yeah. Obviously, a big guy, great body control. And I think that's his basketball background. Yeah. But again, he's 6'4. I think he plays faster than what his 40 times said. I know everybody knocks him for that. But, you know, he's a gamer too, and he loves the game of football.

So I'm excited to throw him. Yeah, that position, if he had 75 catches, six touchdowns, I wouldn't be shocked. Gabe Davis was hit and miss. Stefan Diggs, I thought, like, hit a shelf with him. It doesn't really bother me. I think Buffalo's going to be great. I think they're upgraded at running back, tight ends. Josh gets better, I think, you know, I think they're fine.

The whole culture there is sort of defense anyway. Like, I feel like McDermott, it's details, little boring sometimes outside of Josh. I just don't think Stefan Diggs defined who they were. I think it's a Josh Allen, McDermott defense. That's what they are. Yeah, Coleman, if you remember, he started, yeah, started at Michigan State and was good. And then last year at FSU, he was unbelievable. Yeah.

Making 11 touchdown catches. I think 75 receptions as a rookie would be a little bit much for him. I don't know. If I have Josh Allen, look at that schedule, especially early. There's a lot of wins. That's a lot of wins right there. At Baltimore's brutal at Houston. a little two-game stretch.

Well, remember, that early season date in Miami, it's probably going to be 100 degrees on the field. Remember, Matt, didn't they, was it last year or two years ago? They had an early season match. Well, let's say it's 100 for both teams. I know, but the Miami guys are used to it. The Buffalo cold weather dudes aren't, and they lost that one in Miami a couple years ago.

That Jacksonville game, you're not going to just roll over Trevor Lawrence, okay? They're going to be retrieving. Yeah, global warming. It could be 95 today in Buffalo. You don't know. Anyways, so let's say they start one and two. then you've got to go at Ravens, at Texans, at Jets. You're taking a very negative tag.

No, I'm just, it's a plausible scenario. They could go one and two, or they could go two and oh. Actually, Arizona. I'll take Miami to beat him. I'll take Miami to beat him in a week two. And I think that Arizona game has to be in the Blazine Blase A5, sorry. No. Buffalo's like a seven-point favorite.

I got the okay for management. Do not have to run Blazzen five week one. Tick down to six. It's amazing what a buy a lunch does at this course. corporation. You bought somebody loves. You buy a little sushi for a boss and you get out all sorts of stuff. I may not even show up next week.

Using his superpowers to pick up a tab. Nicely done. Next up, Albert Breers talking about Malik Neighbors being a high maintenance receiver at LSU, following in the footsteps of Odell Beckham, possibly. But on Monday, another report indicated the Giants' decision makers wondered aloud before the draft how neighbors may respond to lack of targets this season. Uh-oh. But Giants' wide receivers coach Mike Grove said he's not anticipating any problems, adding any good player wants the ball, and they want to impact the game.

I think Neighbors is easily their best skill position player already. Oh, yeah. I don't think the Giants, you just have to get him. Let me see the maintenance before we predict it. They just need a guy who can break plays. That team needs help. Let's not predict that it'll be high maintenance. Let me see it.

I mean, Brandon and I, you didn't hear anything for three years. I mean, sometimes it develops. Yeah, I mean, I don't think Malik neighbors. When's the last time a rookie came into the league? A rookie and was high maintenance. Rookie receiver. Oh, Del Beckham. People forget.

O'Dell Beckham was normal until he made the catch against the Giants. O'Dell Beckham. In L.A., no issue. At L.S.U., no issue. Coughlin, early, New York, no issue. Then all of a sudden they became a circus in New York, and he became a star. He made that catch and he became a global superstar.

You guys remember you remember. I don't think he was an issue in Cleveland. No, he had beef with Baker Mayfield. Well, no, no, he had a little, but it was private. But Malik neighbors are going to have beef with Daniel Jones. Odell Beckham was such a big star that you remember his maintenance. But I would say LSU none, early Giants, none, Cleveland, he and Baker. You didn't hear about it until he left.

In L.A., he had none. Yeah, I don't hear about Odell's maintenance. I do think he's had moments and stretches where he's going to be. got a little over his... I mean, he became the one-handed catch was, like, iconic. And he got a little into it. You're forgetting that he organized the boat trip famously. It wasn't his best decision, but it's not the end of the world.

I know, young guy, yeah, he got water under the bridge. Now, neighbors, though, I'm just telling you, we know Daniel Jones is spraying the football all over the field. He does not have, he's not good on accurate short passes. Neighbors are going to be ticked. By the way, if you've looked at any giants or read about their beat, they're terrible right now as a football team. Well, where did you get that at? I'm reading the beat right.

The reports, like the offense is not crisp. The defense looks awful. Other than their pass rush, I don't see any redeeming qualities on this team whatsoever. Yeah, it's not great. So, you know, it is, we talked about this briefly yesterday. Think about this. So generally speaking, the baseball playoffs are going to have the Dodgers full of stars. I mean, literally loaded full of stars.

Yankees. So the baseball playoffs are going to be great. Probably. Yeah. I mean, you've got big, I mean, literally you're going to have Otani, Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Aaron, Judge. I mean, you're going to have all the stars in baseball, right? Bryce Harper, the Phillies, star-studded team Marsh, you know, Aaron Nola.

I mean, it's like nine of the biggest stars in the sport. In the NBA, it kind of hurt when Yokic was in the final, like the Celtics, you want big names. In the NFL, when I think of the Giants, think about this, the Bears have been in the toilet, Washington's been in the toilet, both New York teams uninteresting. And the league is setting records with Green Bay, Kansas City, Cincinnati. Baltimore and Buffalo crushing. That is bulletproof. The league, literally all the big markets,

I mean, L.A. is good, but they just moved here, so they're still not as big as the Dodgers or the Lakers in town. They're ascending, but it's like the Rams are behind the Dodgers and Lakers in terms of talking points. And the Chargers are, they're still bitter in San Diego, and they're still trying to find footing here. They'll get it with Harbaugh. But it is amazing when you look at the NFL,

is that all the small market teams are carrying the league has no negative impact. So, I mean, it's, I look at the Giants and, like, they'll be bad, and I think, you know, they've been bad forever. I mean, between the Jets and the Giants, if you combined it, what's it been like 20 years, no playoffs? And by the way, in that time for Star Stud at New York, when's the last time either team was great offensively? They're both anemic. It doesn't even matter who the coach is, Bulls, Gase, Sala, Rex Ryan. And it's just, it's amazing how bad and uninteresting.

And not just bad. I mean, teams can be bad, but they can be fun bad. I mean, the Chargers don't have Super Bowls, but they had been in more close, weird, crazy games than you can, the last decade. Always been interesting. The only thing I keep coming back to is baseball 162 games. Literally, every week, there's six games. There's no urgency, right?

Well, there is a basketball. 82 games. NFL is just basically one day a week. I know it's like Monday night or whatever. I think the iPhones changed our lives. We used to not worry about how many games there were in baseball in the 70s. We weren't distracted. We're too distracted now.

So if you ask me once a week, be in. It's easier. iPhone, internet, streaming. Like, there's just so many options. NFL was not on top in the 80s. It was not the number one sport of America. No, no. The more distracted we get, the more scarcity drives your sport.

That's why, by the way, the Olympics. I thought the Olympics were dead. But it was like politics is tribal and ugly. People wanted to smile and feel good about the country. so it's like the World Cup set records, COPA set records, Olympic set records. I mean, it's all that, you know, it's funny, we always hear about TB's dying.

Everything's setting records. Like everything, you put anything on cable, Copa, Euros, WNBA, Olympics. I mean, everything's setting records, and I think a lot of it is you don't get the Olympics much. Anything that has scarcity, and in an election year, it's exhausting. People want something that's light.

fun and optimistic. That's like some of these exclusive brands that they just offer scarcity. Hey, we're only making 17 of these bags. Women, you've got to come get them and then the price goes up and then, oh, I've got to get one of those Chanel bags. I know Anne's asking for Chanel bags. I can say that sounds like something that's happening in your house

right now, doesn't? No, no, no, my wife's not about that stuff. She's not about that life. Anyway, final story. Eagles, remember last season? 10 and 1? Awesome start. And then they just collapsed, losing five of their final six, including getting blasted by Tamif. off. And again, they look gutless. Well, Jason Kelsey has retired, the great center, and he opened up

about the collapse, saying the cohesion was certainly not there like it was the year before. We completely overvalued our defensive coordinator and system. Oh, I'm sorry, overhauled our defense coordinator system, and you saw the downsides of both of those. Offensively, we probably went too simple and got a little too predictable. Is that a shot at the head coach? Mike McCarthy survives, and Nick Sariani gets run after the season. I think this thing, why is this the second story that is leaked in a week on the Eagles? Stuff gets out because somebody wants it out. That Jalen Hurts story by Jeremy Fowler, why did that get out?

Who wanted that out? That's people protecting their arse. Why is this story? Why is this story? I mean, it seems to me I got two stories on the Eagles. Stuff's getting out because somebody wants it out. Jason Kelsey is probably closer to Jalen Hertz than he is the coach, so he wants to make sure it's out there.

The cohesion wasn't great. Well, who does that fall on? Everybody loves Hertz. He gets along with everybody. So it's a big year for Siriani. It is weird. I think he's on a much hotter seat than you think Mike McCarthy is. I mean, we haven't said the name Iberflus in a minute on this show.

Meanwhile, he's been a disaster as a head coach. Robert Salon, total train wreck. Meanwhile, McCarthy can win 12 games, no extension. Siriani goes Super Bowl. Well, Philadelphia is a more urgent sports city than like Dallas. Like Jerry, if they win 11, he'll bring him back. They fired Doug Peterson who won a Super Bowl with Nick Foles. Philadelphia is some sports cities.

They're mostly northern cities. There's a lot of urgency. Like Boston fires good people. Remember when they fired Bobby Valentine, you know, 8, 12 minutes into the season with the Red Sox? I don't recall that, but I'm sure it happened. So, I mean, Philadelphia is a very urgent city. It's driven by the sports talk, the intensity. Philadelphia moves off winning coaches, NBA, NFL, the Phillies.

So I just think, Seriani, coaching in Philadelphia is not like coaching in Seattle or Baltimore. You know, it's just not, it's not the same. The sea, it's angry, my friends, in Philadelphia. When Matt Stafford goes to the Rams, it's a great story if he wins. Brady goes to Tampa, a better story if he wins. Let's face it. If Russell Wilson was playing great with Sean Payton, it's a better story than restarting with Bo Necks. and Russell's career going to Pittsburgh.

I root for quarterback play. I do it in college. I do it in pro. I like good quarterback play. And what happens, if you don't have good quarterback play, after about four weeks, I don't have to watch your games. So I like to be engaged, watch the league, red zone, take notes. The Jets are much better for the NFL and my content, if they're good.

They've been boring and bad forever, 13 years. I want that one o'clock window. Like I said before, I'm rooting for the Bears. I'm rooting for Washington. I see the one o'clock window at Fox. I know the late games will be good. The Baltimore, Kansas City, borough, Josh Allen. I know Monday night football, Sunday night football, the Fox late game.

I know those are good. It's that one o'clock window watching the Red Zone. Like, give me some games. Give me some quarterback play. And I have a feeling the NFL has engineered the jet schedule to put Aaron on those late big TV games. They'll be at 1 o'clock six weeks in if they're losing these things. So I want to see it work. he was on WFAN yesterday

they were doing I guess they're I don't know if the station or the morning show was at Jets Camp and he talked about the pressure of playing in Gotham we realize that success and failure is not binary wins or losses you know as a mindset it's going out there and willing to put your best on the line

knowing it's not going to be good enough in a win loss matrix every single time I've been fortunate enough to play for two organizations that set a standard of excellence and it's not, hey, let's just have a pretty good season. No, let's be the best. And I think that's what you want to play. You don't want to play in a city where they're just so excited to win a few games every year.

Okay, I don't want to be negative, but there is a difference between the Packers and the Jets. I would like to state that unequivocally. Okay, those are two different organizations. All right. So it's not like he's just played for two similar organizations. One is always great offensively. One has been anemic for a decade plus. One is almost always over 500.

One is almost always under 500. One has continuity. Small Town America drafts and develops brilliantly and always has an offensive coach. The other is the Jets. So these are not similar organizations. One's got no owner. therefore Mark Murphy diligently and quietly runs the team. The other has Woody Johnson, and it's a bit of a clown show, very impulsive, running through GMs and coaches.

So it's not the same environment. Also, strangely, the Jets are one of the rare franchises that aren't good, yet the expectations are always high. The Mets have that. Why would the Mets be good? They're never good, right? You have to go back and talk Keith Hernandez. is. So, by the way, this is breaking news. This is breaking news. And not good news. J.J. McCarthy, Vikings rookie, going to miss the entire season. Torn meniscus, sources tell Rapsheet, Ian Rappaport.

Disappointing, it gives McCarthy the best chance of a long career, though, is a year-long repair of the torn meniscus. So bummer. Now he wasn't going to start. He just looked very good in the opener. So it doesn't change what I think of the Vikings. I think J.J. McCarthy will eventually flourish to some level with the Vikings. I do believe that. And I think Sam Darnold's going to start.

I got to tell you, the Darnold thing is fascinating because they really do have very nice offensive personnel, and the Lions and the Packers may be better, but they don't have great defenses. So we saw Baker Mayfield's career reborn, Gino Smith reborn. Sam Darnold could have that. But, I mean, Kevin O'Connell won games last year. Josh Dobbs won a game without a practice. Sam Darnold, and I think it's a better roster now.

They'll win games. So I'm not going to guess on injuries. I said yesterday I got a text from two players that don't lead me wrong, very often. They were a little concerned that J.J. McCarthy would miss a lot more time than I was predicting. So he's going to miss the entire season, torn meniscus. Twin Cities' orthopedics did the surgery and repaired it today. Yeah. I mean, my take is, I think they're a third or a fourth place team with Sam Darnold. McCarthy was a, you know, if you look at these quarterbacks, Caleb's going to star now. Jaden and Bownecks should be very, very,

interesting early. But Pennix is going to sit. McCarthy was going to sit and Drake May was going to sit. We kind of feel like a couple of these guys are going to play now and they're going to make mistakes. Jaden Daniels, Caleb Williams, Bo Nicks, three of these quarterbacks. But there's three other guys, Pennicks, J.J. McCarthy and Drake May that weren't going to play. So this is a bummer. The Viking schedule, my idea of what they are and where they're going doesn't change at all. I think it's a really tough schedule early. It softened up a little later where you've got your Arizona's, your Tennessee's, your Atlanta's in Chicago again.

But I think whoever is quarterbacking for this team, Kevin O'Connell, the tall Sean McVeigh, the great thing about JJ's career and Darnold's, whoever is quarterbacking in Minnesota, you will get the truest version of who they are. Sam Darnold could blame Woody Johnson. He could have he wanted to blame Adam Gase. Blame the culture. Blame Todd Bulls.

There'll be no blame for Sam Darnold. This is as smart and offensive coach, great left tackle, two nice weapons, a running back that can make plays happen. Like, you know how sometimes you know, if you fail in life, you can point fingers. That's all politics is about.

It's all pointing fingers. If Sam Donald can't get it done here, then he can't at done in the league. He had a really bad pick six at practice yesterday and it was like, uh, Sam Arnold. He gives you one of those games. So whether it was McCarthy or not, you're going to get a completely true version of, right, it's almost like with McVeigh. He could get Goff to a Super Bowl. He could get Stafford there to win. That's who they are. Goff may never win a Super Bowl, but he could probably get you there a couple times. Stafford, even with an imperfect team, can win it. With McVeigh, you get the

truest form of your quarterback. If you're good, you'll win a bunch of playoff games. If you're great, you'll win Super Bowls. I feel like McVeigh does that, and Kevin O'Connell does that as well. So the Vikings are now waiting for the league to rule on the Jordan Addison suspension for the offseason DUI.

That could be a game to maybe three. T.J. Hawkinson, I'm reading, is not going to be ready. They're a great tight end for the beginning of the regular season. They don't know if he's going to be back by week three, the bye week. So now, Colin, you're looking at quarterback goes down, bade your bummer. Jordan Addison going to be suspended, that stinks, and Hawkinson not ready. Is that just too much negativeness to, like in preseason? What it does, it actually does Darnold and the Vikings a little favor.

Because this schedule has some L's in it, and now there's no pressure. So Darnold's going to have a much longer runway. That's good for the entire room. So, I mean, my take is they could beat the Giants, they're probably not beating the Niners, Houston, or Green Bay. They might be one and four heading into the byway. It would have become a huge distraction with J.J. McCarthy, especially if the way he's playing in preseason, it would have just hung over the franchise. Now it won't. Now, J.J.

will get healthy. He'll come back from this. He'll be, he'll come back. And Donald has no distraction behind him. And so, I mean, I think it's not like a win for anybody that he was hurt, but what you're going to get now is there's, there's no question. We're all in on Sam Donald. There's no talk radio debates. Now if Sam throws a couple of ugly pick-sixes, and he will, that's his reality.
