No team that has started this bad has ever made the postseason. And I hope the Braves keep that streak alive. What a terrible start.
Starting point is 00:03:28 I believe, what's it, Austin Riley? Some of the players are saying they're disgusted with their own performance. But it's only seven games. but still. Yeah. No, Bueno. Again, we're Covino and Rich. We're in the middle of old school when 50 hits.

Starting point is 00:04:31 Tractor supply. Yeah. That's so cool that they give you $2,500 in gift cards to tractor supply because the tractor warehouse gives you $500. In our lessons. They're a competitor, right? Yeah, no. Big props to tractor supply. Tractor supplies where it's at.
Starting point is 00:04:50 And speaking of where it's at, two turntables on a microphone, we're going to talk some music in a second. But two huge reminders. Tomorrow, Kavino and Rich are in for Colin. on the herd. So you will not hear us tomorrow here at this time, but you will hear us in the morning early like Mr. Furley. And a brand new overpromised episode 86 premieres about an hour from now on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. So you could watch what you hear, watch the show, join the live chat. It's
Starting point is 00:05:33 honestly one of the most fun things we do over promises our bonus show it's uncensored it's a lot of fun so join us in about an hour right now we do this every thursday before we talk nba and other nonsense here on the show we do this every thursday we throw it back and reminisce and we're reminiscing about movies for two reasons today it's national film score day and val kilmer passed away this week at 65 and we all knew that he was beloved and that he was a legend and a master of his craft. But I did not expect this sort of outcry from everybody. Even Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise at a Jim Carrey today. Big cinema event and he did a moment of silencer his pal Val Kilmer.
Starting point is 00:06:19 So it's a big deal. Iowa Sam yesterday was telling me how touched he was. But you see it all over social media. Not only was I was him touched. You need to finish that story. I was Sam and you were relating over your love of Val Kilmer. Yeah, after the show yesterday. And one of our co-workers came in here.
Starting point is 00:06:35 And I was Sam, I loved your enthusiasm during the break. Try to replicate what you told me because I missed this moment. Well, me and Kavino were having, like, Kavino's usually pretty quick to get out the door. He's got stuff to do. So I was just trying to steal a quick 30 seconds with Steve and be like, man, it's so cool that you got to interview Val Kilmer way back when. And, you know, got to talk to him. And I'm jealous. I'll never get to do that.
Starting point is 00:06:58 You know, he got to wear Val Kilmer's jacket? They saw that. He was dressed like Don Johnson. Yeah, he was wearing a white blazer. Like a white linen blazer. And Camino goes, sweet Don Johnson jacket, Val Kilmer. And he goes, Covino, you want to try it on? And I was like, oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:07:11 He was like a fun guy when we would interview him. He was cool and personable and humble. Like, he had a humility for such a superstar. That's the thing. So we're talking about that. So we were looking at, you showed me a couple pictures. And we were just talking about Val Kilmer. And this coworker steps.
Starting point is 00:07:27 up and I wanted to I wanted to just ask you more about the interview and so this guy just walks up and just he says hey Kavino how about those torpedo bats and I'm like yo such and such we're talking about Val Kimler here maybe you can just come back like I know that's not the same passion he dismissed he said he goes I'm trying to have a moment here with Kavino and he goes you can talk about this anytime with him yes and he's like and also he's like talk to the hand and he like dismissed well I was just like it was just so frankly I I thought about maybe a policy apologizing after, but I'm like, what so-and-so did was rude and didn't read the room, read us. He acted like I wasn't even there.
Starting point is 00:08:03 So that just immediately was like knee-jerk reaction. I'm like, yeah, we're talking Val Kilmer here. Goodbye. Talk to the wall. Talk to the hand, goodbye. It doesn't warrant an apology. It was funny. Yeah, it's like, you know, you just got to do a better job of like when you approach, like,
Starting point is 00:08:16 don't act like I'm not even there. That was a little bit of rude. We were in a conversation with a serious tone. And he was just like, Yankees, am I right? That's, I feel like this, because of the, the, the, weight of the conversation that this may have happened other times previously when the conversation wasn't as heavy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:34 But because it was heavy, Sam reached his boiling point that said, you know, all right, that's it. I got to put a stop to it. Like, today is the day I say something. When this may have happened five other times, but you guys were talking about something more frivolous. You know, Sam was, he was sort of emotional in the moment talking about how much Val meant to him. And he was rattling off his favorite movies and everything.
Starting point is 00:08:56 And that's what we're going to do right now. Now, because we didn't give Sam the proper time yesterday. He was so rudely interrupted. We're going to talk about your favorite Val Kilmer moments. And also, movies with the best music. Now, Doris comes to mind because it's about the doors. Yeah, but Val Kilmer was Jim Morrison. We're going to get to the movie scores in a second.
Starting point is 00:09:15 But if you had to, this weekend. Yeah. Pick a Val Kilmer movie to watch and tribute. What would you go with? What would you go with? Pick one Val's over me. He already picked one for the weekend. Let's hear it, Danny.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Tombstone. I'm with you. I said Tombstone with a Tombstone. One of my favorites. Someone watch Tombstone have some pizza. Let's go. I get some, I don't know. I'd rather have...
Starting point is 00:09:38 Anything but a Tombstone pizza? Yeah, they don't want to be negative about their pizza. I like to. Lay off. It's Medford, Wisconsin, original. I like that. They sold it years ago and now Kraft is taken over. It's a tombstone.
Starting point is 00:09:50 I'll go roundtable with some tombstone movie. I'm with you on that one because it's been a while and he was like I think that's what really separated him with everybody else. Yeah, his portrayal of Doc Holliday was amazing. It really was. You know, if you listen to Kavino and Rich, it's obvious, right? When you tell Kavino something, the more you try to encourage him, he resist, right, Danny J? Like, if you told Kvino, come on, dude, do karaoke.
Starting point is 00:10:16 He's never going to do it. If you ask him twice, it's like telling Kinello to fight Benavides. I won't do it. Now I really won't do it. Yeah. You are. Fuel. I fight whoever I want.
Starting point is 00:10:27 It's the, as you said, not me, you always say you're the Mexican hardheadedness of you. I think it's the stubbornness. Yeah, it's just in the DNA. Come on, Canelo, you got to fight Benavides. No, I won't. Because you say so, that's why. Kavino's seen so many movies. He's a guy that's seen all the best.
Starting point is 00:10:46 I'll give him props. He's a great guy when it comes to movies and TV. He's never seen Top Gun Maverick. And I said, Kavino, you got a great TV set up, the Sonos Surround Sound. this weekend, it was fantastic. And I wasn't even a big top gun guy in the 80s. Like, Top Gun in the 80s wasn't in my top 20 movies. But Maverick?
Starting point is 00:11:10 Really well done. That was a film. Especially waiting so many years for that sequel. And you know what? It all sort of ties together because, you know, this song right here, the Top Gun theme. That was done by Harold Faltermeyer. You know what he also did?
Starting point is 00:11:26 Didn't he do Axel F from? Yeah. I can hear some similarities there. Oh, he did the, yeah, Beverly Hills Cops Corps. Yeah. So let's hear not only what Val Kilmer movie you would throw on a tribute, but since it is National Score Day, a couple guys come to mind from me. Alan Silvestri, of course, John Williams.
Starting point is 00:11:49 If you've never seen the documentary on Apple TV, music by John Williams. Oh, that's awesome. You realize, like, this guy is the soundtrack to your life. I know it's how some people may not be down. soundtrack, not soundtracks, with music scores, they could make or break a movie. The right movie, the right sound, just takes it to a different level. Well, I'll kick it off. I'm with Danny G.
Starting point is 00:12:11 My Val Kilmer movie of the weekend is Tombstone. My top three. A Maverick, dude. You've seen Tombstone. Leave me alone. Now I won't watch. Come on, do it. By the way, I know we all hate homework, but if you're listening later in the future,
Starting point is 00:12:28 future boy you're going to have to look these songs up on youtube because we're not legally allowed to play all this music on podcasts sorry podcast future friends my top three movies with the best music now this could be soundtracks or scores okay because again it's national film score day but we're not going to be all particular about it soundtracks or scores this one encompasses both because bill conti created a master's piece and it still had a great soundtrack moving forward in the franchise. I'm talking Rocky. Rocky, the soundtrack, it wouldn't be the same without this horn section, the gun of flying out, the inspiration. He's on the steps. The kids are running with him. He's in Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:13:15 It's so powerful, dude. And then it stops on that still frame when he's just jumping up and down. Without the score, it's nothing. And then when you get into the franchise of Survivor and the tiger and there's no easy way out. The soundtrack, incredible. So Rocky wouldn't be the same without the music. If you're going to combine soundtracks and scores, Rocky is a tremendous answer. By the way, when you talk about the kids running up the stairs,
Starting point is 00:13:40 I believe that's the second one. So you're right. The music continues throughout all the movies. And even the Creed soundtrack takes pieces of Bill Conti's classic. Bill Conti's song, and this was so big, it was a radio hit at the time. And the only lyrics are really this part right here and gonna fly now.
Starting point is 00:13:58 The bongos in this is very 70s, but it gives it an extra layer of coolness. It's so raw and dated and awesome, and I love it. I love the scene. So Rocky for me, then I'm gonna say, hold on,
Starting point is 00:14:12 hold on, you should do this for real? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because no one would ever fact check you? You just ruined my air guitar performance in that mean breakdown in the going to fly now. I'm glad you said that. Got to put the stank face on.
Starting point is 00:14:25 No. 70 stank face. I was going to say no one with some 76 stank no one would fact check
Starting point is 00:14:32 you you should tell people your dad was the bongo player yeah he was Big Steve oh yeah
Starting point is 00:14:38 in the 70s he's a studio musician you can make it all up he plays the bongos I'm gonna fly now it's true and my next answer
Starting point is 00:14:46 would be as far as music making the movie it's a score in fact I'm going score full on score because it is
Starting point is 00:14:53 national film score day there's endless examples, but it's an earworm through my life. You know, I'm cleaning the house or I'm just walking around. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:15:08 Dada-da-da-da-da-da-da- Indiana Jones, bro. There's different scores for every scene. Temple of Doom? Mola Ron has his own theme. You have the... You betrayed Shiva. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Ah, you Shiva. Kehattayor. Oh, Kalima. Kalima. You have the actual theme for Indiana Jones. You know what I mean? It's just endlessly great and awesome and wouldn't be the same without the score for me.
Starting point is 00:15:40 John Williams. It's just 80s magic. John Williams at his best. And I think the movie is only as great as it is because of the music that accompanied it. So Indiana Jones is my answer number two. And then I'm going more 80s, magic, but childhood magic here for my third answer.
Starting point is 00:16:01 This movie's so powerful and emotional. I can't watch it because I don't feel like crying. And it's the music that inspires you right here in the heart. Pretty woman. When I see the heart, no, not pretty woman. Nope, nope. I'm talking E.T. the extraterrestrial. Oh.
Starting point is 00:16:17 Because it's so magical. It's 80s magic and you're riding your bicycle and you're flying through the air across the moon. And it's the music that gives you that feeling of, oh my God, this is incredible. Yeah. No, it's giving me chills right now. This makes me reminisce to the drive-in movie theater.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And not only that, like, there's music to accompany every scene. Like, you remember the ride to it Universal? You're sitting there in the forest. There's, like, forest music. And you're like, oh, my God. You know every, you know, scary. Scared me. Yeah, you know every score for every scene in that movie.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Okay. So those are my three. I have my three. Now, by the way, great list. Rocky, I spread it out. Indiana Jones and E.T. All right. Now, I'm going to pay Penny. I'm going to pay tribute to John Williams in a second.
Starting point is 00:17:14 But there's another guy that gets shine, but so many of these are John Williams. Alan Silvestri, I have to just point out two of his big ones before I get to my top three. Alan Silvestri did Forrest Gump. And Forrest Gump, this is used not only in Forrest Gump, but every time there's a montage of movies. Yeah, it's definitely been stolen a couple times. This is like the most majestic, like heartfelt theme song. And this is just the nice intro when he's on the bench.
Starting point is 00:17:43 With the feather, the feather floating through the air. When this score kicks in to the next part, da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. There's so many levels. of Forest Gump. Right here, here we go, ready? You know what this makes you think of too? Like when you leave the DVD on and just keeps playing.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Yeah. Leg braces snapping off and he starts to just bucket down that dirt road, right? Isn't that one of the parts with this? It's one of them. So, Forrest Gump gets a shout. Alan Silvestri. And you said soundtracks? There was great music in this movie.
Starting point is 00:18:23 but I don't think this next movie I don't think it would be the same not without forget the great 80s music back to the future the title theme you know what
Starting point is 00:18:35 this is a double-dusy like Rocky Rich because it had the soundtrack and the score yes Rich that's on my list too I'm sorry I saw it's all good no so good it's why it's one of the most perfect films ever made
Starting point is 00:18:49 ever I mean Doc Emmett Brown Marty McFly this song, it really is perfect. And then think about Chuck Berry being played in the movie. Huey Lewis in the news, of course.
Starting point is 00:19:01 It's your cousin, Marvin Barry. That's the power of love. And of course, the Penguins, Earth Angel, a classic, right? Oh, great soundtrack. Is this just John Williams Day? Is April 3rd, 2025 John Williams Day? You know what?
Starting point is 00:19:13 Because, I mean, the guy is just soundtrack after soundtrack. I'm just going to give you, I don't want to steal all the answer, so let me just give you two more. Okay. I don't know. I mean, one of them is arguably the most impactful. This is not my personal favorite, but this song could very well have made the movie. That wasn't where I was going, but Star Wars, everybody.
Starting point is 00:19:34 Which you're not even a fan of that franchise. I'm not really a fan of Star Wars, but I mean, you can't talk about movie soundtracks. It's a big part of what made it so majestic. Yeah, powerful, man. It's amazing. Now, the one that made the movie, it was a great movie. but I think without the soundtrack would not have been the same, and that's Jaws. That, just that simple.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Yeah. And steals fear in you, yeah. I mean, John Williams, two notes. Come on. He does eventually expand a little bit. Yeah, no, no, no, no. These are the notes that get you to them. It's like, it's like,
Starting point is 00:20:16 imagine if you heard these notes, in the dark water. You know how scary that would be? I'd probably swale myself. I'd have a whole. I'm going to, I go ahead, Danny G, what you got, man? Okay. I'm having bad flashbacks to that right there.
Starting point is 00:20:34 All right, close your eyes really quick. Where's Roy Scheider when you need him? Yeah, and I got this one queued up, Spuddy. Dun on, da-na, no, the natural? Yes. Randy Newman. I thought it was Randy Watson. Dude, the final scene with that home run and his shirt.
Starting point is 00:20:56 has the blood on it and he's rounding the bases the lights are exploding the ball flies off into into the sky forever and um there was other great songs in that too um when roy hobb strikes out the whammer uh lots of different scenes with lots of different great music from randy newman who composed the music for the natural randy newman did a lot of great music for movies he deserves a respect too he's like the b team he's not quite a john williams but he has had to have composed a lot. Yeah, but that one right there, man. He did Toy Story. Oh, he did? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Randy Newman. Because you associate that the minute, the second you play that, Danny G, I'm like, oh, hitting home runs into the lights. Yeah. It's like every kid's dream.
Starting point is 00:21:39 To this day, and Covion, I'm not going to ask you to watch it because then you won't, but the World, the 2024 World Series docu series that's on Apple TV, when they get to Freddie Freeman hitting his now infamous Grand Slam, this coming. on as he hits the Grand Slam. Barf. It's awesome. Double barf. You know, if you want to give Randy Newman some shout-out spot, I know you're quick on the punch,
Starting point is 00:22:06 Randy Newman, talking to sports movies, I thought this is true when I was right. The song from Major League, Cleveland Indians, Burn On by Randy Newman. Remember the song that There's a red moon rising? That song that played throughout. That was Randy Newman as well. Okay, so yeah, he deserves mention
Starting point is 00:22:24 on National Film Score Day. We all remember this from Major League. Wait, so is that him singing? Yeah. Oh, no way. Yeah. You're also saying, you've got a friend in me. Yeah, well, now I'm putting that together.
Starting point is 00:22:36 And short people. And I love L.A. I love L.A. Big one. Oh, come on. He deserves way more of a nod. Let me give you one more. Then we'll go to the phones.
Starting point is 00:22:45 They're hot. They're lit. This is a holiday movie. But I'm going to go to the John Williams. I'm just going to stroke this guy. What do the kids say again? glaze. I'm going to glide.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Careful now. I don't want to dump you. Well, let me tell you. Given this flowers. Home alone without the John Williams score. I don't know if it would have been the same. Oh. John Williams Day.
Starting point is 00:23:07 April 3rd, 2025. I don't mind the same. I don't know because we gave props to Bill Conti. And we gave props to Sylvester. And we gave props to Newman. But the thread in all of this is the brilliance of John Williams. Yeah. It's incredible, dude.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I'm more of a Bernie fan. But John is pretty cool. Camino's if Camino made a movie he would have Bernie Williams on the guitar I love this part here he's a great musician I mean that would be good do do do well
Starting point is 00:23:35 all right hey I love this so now we go to the phones 87799 on Fox old school and 50 hits we try to get you involved Fox Sports Radio Nation so thanks for hanging tight because Val Kilmer passed this week and it's national film score day we throw it back and reminisce and we talk about movies
Starting point is 00:23:53 with the best music. Movies with the perfect music. Simple. Soundtrack or score. It doesn't matter. Best music. We'll get to your phone calls next. All right.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Kavino and Rich, now is your business struggling to balance workforce needs with production, demands in a variable economy, balancing your spending while maintaining the necessary stuff. It can be very tricky for your team.

Starting point is 00:25:05 Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:25:16 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we, how do we? we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:25:31 We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:26:00 or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
Starting point is 00:26:20 help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself.
Starting point is 00:26:42 I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen Chinchin win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lernerabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now.
Starting point is 00:27:05 And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.
Starting point is 00:27:58 We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
Starting point is 00:28:33 The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to the show. Is everybody thinking Sandlot right now?
Starting point is 00:29:02 I see what you did there. Yeah, we're talking movies and music and tying sports a little bit. Now you hear that's at every ballpark too, but yeah, the whole Sandlot soundtrack. It's baseball season. It's basketball. And today is National Film Score Day. And in tribute to Val Kilmer, we're talking about movies. He was in so many great ones.
Starting point is 00:29:26 but what are the movies, old school and 50 hits, the movies with the best music, whether it be soundtrack, score, or both, before we get to the phone calls and we get to you next. 87799 on Fox. Iowa, Sam, what do you got? Oh, you want to go to mine now?
Starting point is 00:29:42 Yeah. Okay, so I love this song so much. It became the bed music for a bit that I've had over the years of Fox Sports Radio that's gone on hiatus several times called the Iowa Minute. But it's the main theme song to Stripes by Elmer Bernstein. Does this not want to make you go fight for your country?
Starting point is 00:29:59 Yes. And also, you know, maybe land some chicks in a cool RV that has missiles on it. It just makes me think of staying up late to watch 80s movies. For sure. This is a good one, Sam. I like this. So this is like the bed music to my Iowa Minute. So this is a special, this one's special to me.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Old school when 50 hits. We do it every Thursday. Again, we're Covino Enrich. At Covino Enrich on social media. Great one, Sam. And now, Danny G's on the phones at 87799 on Fox. We go to you. Who do we got?
Starting point is 00:30:27 Tripp in Vegas. What's up, Tripp? Gentlemen, great show, as always. Tombstone will be my Val Kilmer movie. I like Robin Williams better than John Williams. And then my two movies would be John Williams did Jurassic Park. And then also, how about you got to love this one. Chariots of Fire.
Starting point is 00:30:49 Chariots A Fire is a great one. But Jurassic Park, fantastic. And any running scene, in any TV show or video game included the chariots of fire music as a result moving forward. I think of vacation with Chevy Chase and Russ running to Wally World.
Starting point is 00:31:07 Any, like I said, the video game track and field. Whatever involved running, whether it be a segment on a TV show, yeah, it's this. Wait for it. But you have to do it in slow motion. This is synonymous with running now and forever. Maybe he goes,
Starting point is 00:31:25 Russ. I'll race you. And the symbols, remember Chevy Chase So this song is actually called Vangelis. Everyone knows it as the Chariots of Fire theme, but it's called Vangelis. Isn't Chariots of Fire just about long distance running, right? I believe so. I don't think anybody's actually seen Chariots of Fire. Maybe our parents, but...
Starting point is 00:31:47 No, but I play track and field on Nintendo. Listen to this. It's majestic. All right. Who do we got next? Josh and P.A. What's up, Josh? Hey, I'll be your huckle. I'll be your huckleberry.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Rich will be your dingleberry. Stop it. I'll be putting on heat this weekend. Criminally underrated movie about the criminal underworld where he's more of a supporting role. Yeah. It's a good one from Val Kilmer. Wait, which one was it? What he just said?
Starting point is 00:32:22 Did he say heat? I think he said heat. Yeah, he said heat. Oh, he said heat. He's great. Marcel in L.A. What's up, Marcel? So for Val Kilmer, I'm going to go with the movie. I got showed by my parents when I was a kid. It's the ghost in the darkness.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yes. I don't think I've ever seen it. Awesome movie. Yeah, it's a great movie about, and it's a true story kind of, I believe, because I believe those lines are in the museum. And then for soundtrack, I got to go Lord of the Rings,
Starting point is 00:32:51 any war seen in the movie especially. You guys sold my, my Jurassic Park one, so I'm going to have to. Yeah, Jurassic Park's a good one. And so many of these are Robin. Williams, not Robin Williams. John Williams or Alan Silvestri, so many of them.
Starting point is 00:33:09 The Lord of the Rings. All right. Bruno, Brooklyn. What's up, Bruno? What's up, Bruno? Gentlemen. Gentlemen, good afternoon. Hey, man, I'm sounding like a broken record here when everybody's talking about the same stuff. But the one thing I wanted to bring up real quick, when they made the natural, I'm going to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:33:26 But when they made the natural, they shot the stadium scenes. I was going to college in Buffalo at the time. But we were actually extras in that movie up in the stands. It was great. I mean, it was pretty funky to be there. I mean, a long time ago, but I still remember it. They had cardboard cutouts for a lot of the stands, but they actually had people. That being said, back to Val, the reason why I like the Tombstone role in Doc Holliday is think about his characters up to that.
Starting point is 00:33:50 He's a handsome cat. He always plays the stud, you know, Ice Man, all these, you know, like in heat. He always plays the good-looking tough guy. and then all of a sudden he shows off his deathly old cat. One of the best scenes ever was when Ringo starts with him in the bar, spinning his guns, doing his thing,
Starting point is 00:34:09 and then, you know, Doc just takes his cup and spins it around and spins it around and spins it around. It completely deflate him. Fantastic role. The guy looked like he was going to die at any minute. Phenomenal, such a separation from who we normally was. That's, for me, that's it for Val. As far as movies, you're going to laugh at this one.
Starting point is 00:34:28 think about more modern soundtracks but just like for rock and roll type stuff you got to look at stuff like goodfellows again the score not great but all the good two is at rennatt or casino again those kind of crazy movies where the sound set you know think about uh you know those flicks where the tracks actually set the mood really really well and leila laela the song leila especially i think of yeah when it comes to goodfellas you know certain soundtracks were must-haves in your collection that's uh Bruno the Wonder Boy, everybody. The Wonder Boy, Bruno. And you know what? Speaking of Bruto, I thought, we don't talk about Bruno. You got to give Lynn Manuel Miranda some props as far as music movies.
Starting point is 00:35:10 I mean, movies with music and everything. If you saw Moana 2 with your kids, you could realize that he wasn't part of it. The music lacked compared to the first one. I mean, he's a modern day guy making an impact. For sure. No, but you know when he has his fingers in on the action. Kevin in Ohio.
Starting point is 00:35:28 What's up? Kevin. Joe as always. You guys are, you guys are just awesome. Thanks, man. For my movie, it's a moral imperative that we watch Real Genius. Yes. Chris Knight, the Man.
Starting point is 00:35:45 And then the movies, I'm going to lump the Rockies together, if that's right, because between, there's no easy way out, and I have a tiger, and, of course, you know, the main Rocky theme, you can't go wrong there. but lethal weapon four ending on knocking on Heaven's Door and then Axel Foley. Oh, Axel F. That's a big one. Axel F for sure. Great call, man.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Thank you. Kevin, you demand as always. The second one I even thought was entertaining, the Beverly Hills cop that just came out like a year ago. I have a sports one. I thought you were a bigger fan of Beverly Hills Ninja. Isn't that true? I love Beverly Hills Ninja. That's Chris Farley.
Starting point is 00:36:26 When Chris Farley is trying out all the weapons? Oh, that was great. Like a Tarzan, Baltimore Tarzan boy? Maybe I could bounce back with that. Hey, let me give you one and then we'll go to DB for an update. Kavino's never seen this movie because, as he likes to say, if it was in the 90s, he was out getting booty while we were all sitting at home. Well, yeah, I'm three years older than Rich, so he was picking his nose,
Starting point is 00:36:48 watching movies with Mom and Dad. Yeah, I was doing my thing. I have told him plenty of times, dude, sit down with your daughter. The Mighty Ducks movies are great. And I realize, you know what? has a great soundtrack to the Mighty Ducks, and you'll load the song when you play it. Oh, yeah. Sounds quact-tastic.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Oh, yeah. It'll make you shed a tear. Gordon Bombay teaching those kids. Who's the composer on this one? The Flying V! David, music composing conducted by David Newman. So I don't know of any relation to Randy's brother? Probably not.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Hey, you never know. Who knows? Well, hey, on that note, let's go to our buddy and yours. Dan Byer for an update. What up, DB? What's going on, guys? Some news from the NFL today. Raiders quarterback, Gino Smith, getting an extension from the team.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Not much of a surprise seemed to be part of the deal when he was acquired by the Raiders from the Seattle Seahawks to your extension where the guaranteed $66.5 million dollars. Fox Sports NFL incidenter Jordan Schultz says Smith's deal could be worth up to $85.5 million. The Arizona Cardinals made 10-5 and $3 million. Craig McBride, the highest paid tight end in the NFL, gets a four-year extension with $76 million. While the Cowboys swung a deal, backup quarterback Joe Milton of the Patriots, acquired by the Cowboys, along with the 7th round pick,
Starting point is 00:38:11 in exchange New England, gets a fifth round pick from Dallas. The NBA handed out warnings, but no fines or suspensions to Grizzlies guard John Morant and Warriors Guard Buddy healed from mimicking the firing of a gun during their game on Tuesday. NBA insider Chris Haynes says Nick's guard, Jalen Brunson, will practice tomorrow, has a chance to return from his ankle injury on Saturday against the Hawks. Kyle Swarber homered for the fourth time this season. Philly's completed a three-game sweep of the Rockies 3-1. Red Sox doubled up the Orioles 8-4 and the Astros lead the twins right now,
Starting point is 00:38:40 5-2 in the top of the ninth inning. A couple of college basketball notes. Auburn All-American Forward Jani Broome practice today. He's expected to play Saturday against Florida while USC's Juju-Watkins named the Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of the Year. Guys, back to you. Hey, thank you, DB. Dan Byer on the update.
Starting point is 00:38:59 We're Covino and Rich. We throw it back every Thursday. Speaking of updates, Iowa, Sam just did the research. And apparently David Newman is cousins with Randy Newman. And the uncle is Alfred Newman? Of Mad Magazine? Alfred Newman, the renowned film composer, not the guy from Mad Magazine. Also, Vangelis is the composer of Chariots of Fire.
Starting point is 00:39:22 So it's not the name of the song. I'm sorry. There you go. Thank you, D.B. So, hey, learn a little something today. Again, it is National Film Score Day. And rock and peace, rest in peace, legend Val Kilmer. Your feedback continues.
Starting point is 00:39:38 87799 on Fox. And if we don't get to you, again, chime in any time at Covino and Rich. We'll talk some NBA next. All right. Well, how about this? Tires, they matter. You know this, man. The only part of your vehicle that touches the road.

Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:40:47 And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
Starting point is 00:40:57 First people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was...
Starting point is 00:41:20 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast. We could call in and say, hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:41:56 This week, my guest, and L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:42:13 or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs' tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening. at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenshin win.
Starting point is 00:42:34 I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:43:24 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:43:51 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff, no. Nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. And for more, follow Timbo SlicLife 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Can you guys name this?
Starting point is 00:44:32 It's like Brian's song or something? No, face paint, holding up a sword. Gladiator? No, no, no, I'm not. Braveheart. That's a good one. Once it got to the swell there, I knew it. James Horner in the London Symphony.
Starting point is 00:44:53 Yeah. Hey, speaking of movies, again, rest in peace, Val Kilmer. It is National Film Score Day. We honor him today and throughout the weekend, because you got to pick a movie to watch this weekend. I do want to say that today, a legendary trailer came out. I say legendary because I didn't know what to expect and it made me laugh out loud. And that's not easy to do.
Starting point is 00:45:14 The naked gun trailer came out today. Did you see that? I saw it. And at first, when I first heard they were going to redo this movie, I was like, oh, come on. I don't do that. But you got Seth MacFarlane involved and he's handling it just right. Liam Neeson doing his thing. We laughed.
Starting point is 00:45:30 And that dude, you know the, I always forget his name. You know Stingray from Cobra Kai? He's playing Chris Farley in his biopic. I always forget his real name. But he's also in the movie. It's Paul something. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, him.
Starting point is 00:45:44 He's also in this movie and it looks really funny. So when you're doing the bowl scroll later on today. Paul Walter Houser. Paul Walter Houser is also in it with Ian Nissen and. So in Naked Gun, it was obviously Frank Trubbin. Yeah. Norberg. was OJ. What was the
Starting point is 00:46:03 big galute, Frank's partner? What was his name, the character? The guy that's like, Frank? He was, he was dragline in a... Yeah, that guy. In Cool Hand Luke, right? So, in the trailer, you realize that Liam Neeson,
Starting point is 00:46:20 this is not giving anything away, it's in the trailer, he's playing Frank Drumbin Jr. And Stingley... George Kennedy. George Kennedy, the character of the president. Ed. Ed. Ed. Ed's kid? is Paul Walter Houser is Stingray. Stingray from
Starting point is 00:46:35 Cobra Cohn. And then Liam Neeson plays Leslie Nielsen's kid and then they go to see who's playing OJ's kid and it's a young black actor and he's like, no. It's really funny stuff. So later on check the trailer, it dropped today for Naked Gun.
Starting point is 00:46:51 It's Naked Gun 4 and a quarter because remember it was 33. Yeah, yeah. So now it's 4 and a quarter. So the reboot of toughness. Naked Gun is back. It's kind of funny. Speaking of movies comes out August 1st. Again, we're Covino and Rich. And Express Employment Professionals can provide contract workers to flex up for peak seasons
Starting point is 00:47:10 without having to raise your core workforce headcount. Manage your workforce differently. Visit ExpressPros.com today. That's ExpressPros.com today. And since we're filling in for Colin tomorrow, Rich, tomorrow morning we're in for the herd. We're going to do this week's Pro of the Week. and the Express Pros Pro of the Week goes to
Starting point is 00:47:33 who is it? Who is it? Big surprise. Shohei Otani when you got Otani millions of people waiting for a bobblehead and then you hit a walk-off
Starting point is 00:47:45 home run on your MVP bobblehead day. In typical Shohei style, you deserve the Express Pro of the week. He's batting 333, three home runs, three RBI, and he's just a superstar. So props to him.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Congrats to Shohei Otani for, again, having another moment last night and for being Our Express Pros, pro of the week. I feel like Otani is going to be the pro of the week, many weeks, know who I would have given it to? Who?
Starting point is 00:48:13 Remember former Met now, San Francisco giant Wilmore Flores? Like a really, like a great clubhouse guy. People love Wilmore Flores. I remember that. He was so happy to be with the Mets. You know, he's the league leader in home. He's taught, he's, I believe, second in home runs.
Starting point is 00:48:27 four in the first week. Wilmer Flores has four home runs in the first week of the major league baseball season. So does Anthony Volpito. Well, hey, you know what else is going besides baseball and, of course, some great NBA tonight. We're going to talk to Lakers Warriors in a second. But you got the last four. The last four teams, NCAA, Florida, Arburn, Houston Duke. Some would say, like, where's the underdog?
Starting point is 00:48:51 Some would say, this is what it's supposed to be like, all your number ones. First time since 08, you have all four number ones. ones. And if you go to Draft Kings and you're trying to figure out what to do, I mean, do I, is there really such thing as an underdog when it's four number one seeds? But Duke is the biggest favorite. Duke is a five and a half point favorite over Houston. Houston 34 and four this year. Houston is not, this is not an easy game for anyone. So maybe if you want to have some fun with it, go with the underdogs. Houston, five and a half point underdog. And Florida favored over Auburn, two and a half point favorite. So if you ask me, I feel like Houston.
Starting point is 00:49:27 might be the fun one there because I feel like everyone's like Duke's going to win the whole thing. Have some fun. Houston. Why not? You're getting five and a half points. Again, all draft king sports. And speaking of basketball, big game tonight. And it's not going to be blacked out, thankfully, because out here in L.A.,
Starting point is 00:49:42 it's hard to watch the Lakers. So Danny G. You sit on TNT tonight, right? What do you expect him tonight, man? A dog fight. Because this game is important for both teams, you know. Yeah, the West has not been this tight in years. It's tighter than Rich's jeans in the early 2000.
Starting point is 00:50:01 Yeah, for fun later, look up Western Conference NBA, and look how many teams are log-jammed with the low 40s in the wind column. And you know what, Danny? That means that if a team finishes hot or cold, that could be the difference between like a four and eight seed, or like a five and a play-in, essentially. So again, tonight, the Golden State Warriors, 44 and 31 Golden State Warriors at the LA Lakers, 46 and 29.
Starting point is 00:50:25 TNT game, definitely. watch it because we'll be talking about it tomorrow. So a fun game to look forward to tonight. Wait, hold on a second. You know the 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. That's Nuggets, Golden State, T-Wolves, Clippers, and Grizzlies. Those are 1, 2, 3. Those 6 of your 5-year teams are within 2 games in the loss column.
Starting point is 00:50:47 Insane. Yeah, enjoy the game and enjoy your Thursday night. Start the weekend tonight. And enjoy Overpromised. Episode 86, we start it in 6 minutes on 5. Sports Radio's YouTube page. That's our bonus show. We're talking Dodgers and people we don't forgive.
Starting point is 00:51:03 I'm a little mad at somebody you'll find out who on Overpromised. Got to forgive. Plus tomorrow, we're in for Colin on the herd. We'll see you then. Until then. Arrivederechi, baby. See you in the Overpromised land. Let's go.
