Like, very, very hard to get out of. So if you have an early appointment in the morning, if you want to bolt, you think the season's over, you know, 5% of people bolt. People have a right. Stop being the fan police. You left early. Oh, the worst guy.

You're the worst guy. You're the worst. Fan police. People pay their hard-earned money to come and watch entertainment. I don't know. Seems like to me. Let me see. Let's look at the, oh, that's funny.

It's funny. It's moderately full. Yeah, it looks like it's full. Folks. Are they trying to say like Dodgers fans are not good baseball fans? They draw four and a half million people a year. And that's in a city, by the way, where there's a lot of stuff to do. You're the worst guy. You're the worst guy.

People can do whatever they want. This is their hard-earned money that they come to be entertained. If they don't want to send traffic for two hours because they live in Orange County, they can mind their own business and listen on the radio on the way home. Yeah, some people live in San Bernardino. You want to get in the road early. I get it. It's the worst person.

No, good, okay. Don't tell me what to do with my time. Okay, it doesn't make me any less of a fan. Dodgers have great fans. It's the worst. It's so, it drives me nuts. I only go to two games a year, but I sit right in front and I spend a lot of money on beer. I actually didn't get to go to a game this year.

I didn't get to go to a game this year, but generally I leave early because I don't like to sit in traffic. What are you going to do? By the way, when this home run gets hit, I don't know, it seems like there's some people at the stadium. I mean, it's the stupidest thing. It's so bad. It's so frustrating. Why don't you worry about your inferior teams? We're in Los Angeles.

All our teams win all the time. Why don't you mind your business? Yeah, and your face people who don't win as much as us. All right, let's get clad in here. I got, by the way, I packed my own fake ID because he loves them so much. I hope he loves me as much as Iowa because he treats them with such kit gloves. Okay. Can we stop for just a second?

What? I'm sorry, Joy, you're getting roped into this. You are both so wrong on the Dodger fan take. So wrong. How? You don't leave a playoff game early. You know what? It was a three-run game that you just don't do that.

You don't do that. By the way, great baseball fans do not bring beach balls and bat them around the stands. Great baseball fans, don't do the wave. All that happens at Dodgers Stadium. Are you calling Dodgers fans bad baseball fans? 1,000% You know you're in Los Angeles, right? I do know I'm in Los Angeles.

You're down in Orange County. You're out of Angel fans. Best baseball fans. I covered, so before I got here, I would do a pre- and post game show for the Colorado Rockies. Not a great team, but we would travel around

and go to all the different stadiums. St. Louis, great baseball fans, knowledgeable baseball fans. None else to do there. And San Francisco. Those are the two best baseball fan bases that I ever saw live in the stadium. Dodger fans are...

Let me ask you something, Joel. I mean, they can be passionate L.A. fans, but then they're going to just like, they're going to leave early. If you go to a movie, right? And 15 minutes of the movie, it's terrible. Do you stay there out of principle because it's your favorite actor? Or do you leave? Boom, I'm out. By the way, let me ask you.

So baseball is mostly played in the summer. The hell is she going to do in St. Louis in the summer? Joe Buck won't even leave his house. See, now you're just ripping on whole regions. Folks, America, this is why I come on the show to represent you. I am representing you. Okay. So first of all, you're doing, I want to address a couple things here.

These coaches, I defend coaches. Oh, you do. I am about freedom. But, you know, these athletic directors, they hire you. And then by the second year, if you lose a conference game, they're on the phone with Jimmy Sexton. Hey, who's your next hot coach? So I defend these coaches when they look for work. But I will tell you this, Jimbo Fisher may have done the best press conference I've ever seen.

They asked him about the LSU. job. Roll the tape on Jimbo. This is how you do it. We're building something. We're recruiting great players. I really believe we're on the process of building something great. My family has roots here. I got ranches here. I hunt here. I love everything about this place. There's nothing going on there. Is there nothing happening there? And I don't be disrespectful to anybody else. I coached there. It was a great place. We won national championships. It is one of the best, you know, best places. It's a wonderful place. I believe him. That's how you do it. I didn't need to know about his ranches, but I love it

done the last. Well, I believe him. I believe him. That's how you should do it. I mean, he said virtually the same thing. Listen, I thought he handled that really well. That's what I would want to hear if I was an Aggie fan. That's what I would want to hear. What do you mean? If I was an Aggie booster. He said the same thing at Florida State. Not like that. Well, maybe not about his ranches, but it was very similar. Listen, I don't believe any coach when they say, I'm going to stay because it just sets you up for disappointment. I don't know if he's going to stay or not. He's got a great contract. They've paid him as well as anybody in the sport. He is building something very good there. They just beat Alabama. Maybe they can build on that. Obviously, if their quarterback would have

stayed healthy, maybe this would have been a different season for them because of that building. Everything he's saying is right. And this is not against Jimbo. I'm not saying Jimbo specifically. I don't believe him. I'm just saying I don't believe any coach ever. I didn't believe Nick Sabin when he said I'm going to stay in Miami or when he was going to stay in LSU or when he was going to stay at Michigan State or when Mel Tucker said he was going to stay at Colorado or so on and so forth. Todd Graham at Pittsburgh. I mean, it's just this is the nature of the beast. This don't believe coaches. Fans out there do not believe coaches. Whatever they say, they will go to the best possible situation for them. And that's not, we shouldn't begrudge them that opportunity, but don't

believe them. What he says at that podium doesn't make it doesn't make any difference whatsoever. Okay. Now I want to talk to America. Okay. Let's see. Let's hear. America. Bo Fisher is not taking the LSU job. Yeah, maybe not. I promise it. Now, are you, 100%? He's not 100% I believe him. You know what? I hope. I hope he doesn't because I like what he's building at Texas A&M. But you're not going to back me into saying like, well, absolutely, that press conference, that sold me. Just like the one he gave in Tallahassee.

Well, you and I are just to agree to disagree. All right. So I got a couple of things I want to get into. You have the Northwestern Michigan game Saturday. This week, yeah. I'm going to tell you right now, look ahead game for Michigan. It could be. I think Northwestern, watch Michigan play lousy and give Northwestern a shot to win it. I don't think they will, but this has look ahead all written all over it. Well, a couple of factors to what you're talking about. One is the fact that Michigan doesn't have the explosiveness on offense to really blow teams out. Or they haven't, haven't displayed that, really. They will grind you into potentially a two-possession win like they did against Washington early in the season, like they did against Wisconsin. But it's not like they're just going to

overwhelm you and blow you away with explosiveness on the offensive side. When they lost Ronnie Bell, their best wide receiver early in the season, the first game of the season, they lost that ability to overwhelm you, overwhelm you with explosive plays. And then you face a team like Northwest. who's inherently gritty and inherently wants to get into one of those phone booth, muddy, disgusting style of games, Pat Fitzgerald, we want to show our toughness too. So I don't think that you're wrong. I don't think that anybody should be shocked if this is a fairly close game deep into the second half.

And the look ahead is real because Michigan State is off. They're already looking at Michigan. So the entire conversation up there in that whole region is about next week. and I think this is going to be one of Jim Harbaugh's most difficult weeks to prepare his team is to try to get them to look at Northwestern and not look ahead to Mel Tucker Spartans. Okay, let me just say this because I didn't understand the media. I don't even consider myself part of the media. Unfortunately, I'm connected to it.

Unfortunately, he says. So, you know, you media people, when Mel Tucker got hired. Me? Are you saying I'm part of this? I just want to know. Am I being lumped in or not? Look at your hair. You look like the media. My hair is perfect. It's good today, isn't you?

Perfect skin. It's, you know, discouraging. So the point is- Joy's mad about the Dodger tie. I look over at her, normally for support in this chair. I look over for support and she's just looking at me with disdain today.

I don't know what's happening. Where we're going with this? You guys look like TV people. I look like a UPS driver who stumbled into a microphone. You're not Sky Bannister today. Okay, so the point is, when Mel Tucker got hired, I was like, this is going to be a home run. And the media, the response was so lukewarm.

And I'm like, presence can build a staff. man's man. Kids love him. Dad's going to think he's cool. Shocker. He's hitting it out of the park. Now here's the thing. He's going to get off for the LSU job. He is because Franklin wants the USC job. Heard here second. Luke fickle may be in line for the USC job. But Mel Tucker's going get the call. And Mel has SEC ties, right? I mean, this is where his nature is. He cut his Teethunder Sabin and then he was with Kirby at Georgia. So there's a lot there. There is a lot. I would hire. That would be my choice. Mel has done a great job this year, and he did it in a year in which no one really expected Michigan State to be good because they had to do this with really, you know, string and bandages, if you will, lots of transfers. Kenneth Walker is one of those transfers. Gets there in December. He's the nation's leading Russia. But it's that toughness and presence that you're talking about that was starting to help Colorado become a tougher team.

Thank you. And then he goes to Michigan State. He's done that there. He's certainly. has that. The only thing that I would throw at you is, is we haven't seen him really win as a head coach. He's doing it now, and we'll see how this November winds up. Remember, they still have to play Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State. So this 7 and O'N O'O right now could turn into something very great. It could turn into something very different by the end of the year. They're going to beat Michigan. Potentially, I think that's going to be a phenomenal game. By the way, Gus Ginny and I will also be in East Lansing next week. So we'll have that Michigan, Michigan state game. And I can't wait for that one. That one's going to be one of the five best college

games of the year. I hope so. And I think it's and also it's got the vitriol of the local that's in East Lansing. So it'll be in Spartan Stadium. Upset City, baby. I tell you, it's, well, I don't know what the line is going to be. Upset. I mean, would you say Michigan State would be an upset in that one? I have no idea. I think Michigan State will win. I think that would be a coin flip from Vegas, probably. Maybe a two-point favorite from Michigan. We'll see what happens with Michigan this week.

Back to your original premise, though. I agree. Tucker is going to get a hard run from LSU. A hard run. Let me ask you, Clat. Michigan State's a fine program. Geographical footprint. They can't build a roster to win a national title. Saban was winning seven games a year.

In the end, LSU calls. You are the... Well, LSU is a far better job than Michigan State. Okay, but that doesn't mean you always take it. That doesn't mean you always take it. Now, it would be the second time Michigan State lost a head coach to LSU because Nick Sabin went from Michigan State to LSU. By the way, quick aside, the two GAs on that.

Michigan State staff for Nick Staveman, were Adam Gase and Josh McDaniels, which is a fascinating deal when you look at like young coaches and where they ended up being. Now, having said that, LSU is the better job. It's a great job. It's a top three, four, five job in all of college football. They have resources. They have the footprint to recruit. And they've had success over different staff. So the last three head coaches have won national championships. The only thing that you have to get over, and I've thrown this out on social media and the LSU fans cannot stand this truth is that, yes, the last three coaches have won national championships, the last two have been run out of town. Yeah. So if you're not winning at that national

championship level, it's, but that's it. That's life. That's life in particular in the SEC East and in particular at that location. The LSU job is a great job and it's far better than Michigan State. Whether he takes it or not, I have no idea. Okay. Listen, I'm going to make this brief. I don't want you go down some rabbit hole talking a hawkye football. Okay. You're going to get in on Iowa. Once again, I'm not going to, listen, not going to make fun of Iowa. This is something you media guys do that drives me crazy.

Okay. You feel an obligation. Well, they haven't lost any games. They're number two in America. Wrong. Wrong. This is a bad take. This is a bad take.

They'd thump Iowa. Alabama's two, Georgia's one. There has to be some combination of what you've earned and what the eye test is. We can't just go by Vegas odds. My eye test said Iowa is slow. Yeah. They're not the number two team in the country. And they were operating on very small margins.

That's the problem with a team like Iowa or even like Michigan this year or even an Oklahoma State. Because they earned it. They beat Iowa State on the road. They beat Indiana. They beat Penn State in that game that was a ridiculously good game. I mean, they had the wins to put themselves up there. Boy. Being ranked number two doesn't automatically mean that we think you're the second best team in the country.

It means that you've earned your right to be there. Oh, I don't like that at all. Why not? Well, it can't just be Vegas because then it's all just about the stars. It's just all about like the recruiting rankings. You've got to at least allow the games to matter, and the Penn State game has to matter the previous week. The fact remains is that Purdue always had success against Iowa. They beat them last year 2420.

David Bell had 190 yards two years ago, 130 yards last year, now 200 yards this year. They struggle specifically with Brahms' offense. If you would let me go to it, I was going to give you the almost upset special of Purdue last week, but that's all right. I gave some other people online. You're welcome.

I like how he says, you know, they struggle with it. You know what Iowa struggles with? Teams with speed. And then, like I said, they operate in the margins, in small, small margins. And when they got into the kind of the scoring area inside the 40, they turned the ball over, and they can't do that. They can't do that.

But this notion that we just have to be like, we don't think you're any good. So even if you win games, we're not going to put you up there. Alabama. It's just, it's elitist. I have already acknowledged I'm an elitist. So my dad was an optometrist. My eye test is very, very dependable. That doesn't look like.

Yeah, but your dad being an optometrist doesn't make your vision good. Almost always. If you go in the history of optometrist children. That's it. Really? I didn't know that. Live on carrots and have great vision. I didn't know that.

Let me think. I got a couple things here. I have to manage you because you go off on these crazy rants. Let me see what I can. Okay, here's one. I call them avenues of truth. So second time I have lost money. That's not important.

Bet Sark. And at the end of a game, he hemorrhages leads. Now, again, I've always said this. You can lose. If you start losing the same way. It's a problem. Okay. I saw a little bit of this at USC, where lead and,

evaporates. What's going on with Sark and Texas? Because I watch them for three quarters against Oklahoma and I'm like, better team and then they're a disaster late. Is it just depth and lack thereof? If I knew I'd make a lot more money because I'd go fix it. I don't know. They've got a good running game and a great running back and yet they cannot run the ball late. One yard they gained one yard in the fourth quarter. I know it. So it wasn't just a defensive collapse. It was an offensive collapse as well. It was very, very strange. And the strategy from the defense, and this ultimately goes, I know he calls the offense, Steve Sarkesian, but when you're defensive coordinator in the last four minutes of the game, when you desperately need,

you've got timeouts left, and you desperately need to stop them in that set of downs. They've had a one-point lead. It's 25, 24, and Oklahoma State has the ball. And I mean, you're desperate for stops. You're calling timeout so that you can get the ball back. They played cover two against the team that was definitely going to run the ball. Just so you know, folks, if you put two high safeties back, they can block everybody in the run front. It's crazy. And so all of a sudden, they just run for a first down, then they have to let them score. I didn't know what was going on. And ultimately, that falls on the head coach. You've got to click over on the headset and say, hey, get down low, stop the run, something, because that defensive scheme that they were

trying to run late was terrible. Okay, let's get me, give me claps top 10. And then I have one more thing I want to talk about with you because I need to hold America's college football voices accountable. Okay. This is when you come on this show, none of this sideways stuff. All right, give me clats top ten. There it is. Oh, okay. Now, finally we've got a grown-up.

Cincinnati's not number two. They're not three either, but whatever. Well, I moved to Oklahoma, one, because the changing quarterback makes them a totally different team. I agree. So I would go Georgia one, Bama two. Why is Bama two? They played a one possession game against Florida. They lost at Texas A&M.

Well, because I don't know. There are clearly holes with Alabama and you're just like anointing them number two. First of all, this is not their best defense. They probably should have beat Florida. Or excuse me, Florida probably should have beat them in the swamp. I don't think losing in Gainesville to Dan Mullen's a crime. Oh, but beating Penn State is a crime and I got to move you down because my dad's an optometrist. Hey, Georgia has 11 NFL players on defense, I swear to God.

Do you know actually a great stat? You ready for this? Did I tell you the last week? No. Georgia's defense alone, defense alone on their two deep have nine, five. star players that were recruited as five star players. That's a lot, right? Do you know how many five star players are in the entire Pac-12 right now that were recruited at any moment as a five-six? Nine. Georgia's defense, nine. Entire pack-12, nine. Yeah, that's a problem. I had rooting for Joe. I like

Georgia. Yeah, because you're a frontrunner. You're an elitist. You see the five stars and you're like, I test, dad's an optometrist. They're number one. I'm a fan. Hey, I don't apologize for my elitism. Clearly, because you're going to leave a Dodger game early. I may leave in the fourth inning if you're not up to standards. Okay. So one more thing. Let me support. Let me support something. Now, people are going to be very surprised by this. But LSU has an opening and USC has an opening. And I'll tell you this. I would rather have the USC job, but that's because I like the beach. I'll say this. LSU is a better job. Why? They're different. Because LSU cares more about it. And nothing against USC. But, you know, this is a pack 12. They want all the teams to be good. The one thing I appreciate about these crazy SEC

programs is, I don't care about anything other than winning in football. If you tell me I walk into an athletic department, I like that. I want the pressure on me. There are two lines of thought here. You have a little more runway at USC because of that. Like I said, three coaches win national team. They'll give you an extra five. Shoot. I mean, look at what we just had. But At LSU, while the recruiting is amazing, amazing. You can't open up your back door and get a number one class in the country. You can at USC. You don't have to go anywhere to pull a number one class in the country.

And if you just start retaining some of those players, I think that you are within a playoff berth within three years automatically. Now, to be fair, LSU is in that same boat. I just think that you have to go out and compete a little bit more in that footprint, the SEC footprint, rather than just your back. And also you have to face Saban. And Jimbo Fisher, who apparently you think is... Dan Mullin.

And you're about to have to face... How about that guy, Kentucky? Mark Stoops. You've got to face Kirby Smart and Georgia. You've got to now... Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma are coming down the track where you don't have that competition. At USC, all you've got to do is be competent,

and you're the best team in the league. That's a good point. And all of a sudden, you can make a huge run at LSU. That's not guaranteed. I'm not saying it's a bad job. You hear what I'm saying, though, right? No. USC is a different.

deal. I'm going to end it here because you have 15 minutes you finally won an argument. So I feel as a guest to the show. Well, my dad's a psychiatrist, so you just give me some time. He's not. He's not. That's a really good point. I don't have to, in the Pac 12, I don't have to face Sabin and

mulling. By the way, I'll get fired if I don't beat him. I'll tell you that's a strong point. I wouldn't talk until you're on the air Saturday. I would just stay with that. That's so good. I would just hide for four days and then start talking for the game.

Chris Sale, I'll take him. They come back, bounce back, had a shot last night. Listen, these are really good baseball teams. Atlanta's a really good team. The last four teams, they can all hit for power. They've all got stars. They've all got, you know, an ace. We've got the four best baseball teams.

This is what we have. That's by they're there. Tampa's good. They generally can't pay for big bats. The minute the guy gets really good and expensive, they got to let him go. So we've got, you know, over the course of 162 games, You can kind of separate from people. San Francisco certainly has an argument.

They're as good as anybody else. But the game came down to game five, and it was close, and the Dodgers won because they're from Los Angeles and all our teams win here. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

These bats, the best or nothing. I love people in other cities talking about fans leaving early. Well, you and I are, I kind of, When it comes down to sports, I'll get an example. So there's something in television, you know this called, I think they call them like HUD levels, what percentage of people are watching television? It's almost always cold climates. Yeah.

So if you get into cold weather in Buffalo, there's five months of the year. You're going to be inside for a lot. If you took a guy from Buffalo and he moved to Los Angeles, he would watch less television because our weather is better. So in Los Angeles, we have all these teams, all these things to do. We have late night places, early morning places. If the teams aren't good here, people bail because there's other stuff to do. It's not a knock at Cincinnati or Buffalo.

But when you're in a lousy weather climate in the winter, especially for football, you're just going to stay and watch the games because you have very few options outside of your favorite local team. Sure. You also don't have 6 billion people living in the same city. So you have two hours of traffic to get home. There's always a little game traffic. There's a difference between game traffic in Pittsburgh, which I know, and game traffic in Los Angeles. I've been in both.

L.A. is worse. Now, that's not to say that's why people left the game, but it just drives me nuts. Let people enjoy sports however they want to enjoy it, all right? Stop being the fan police. Well, you're better fans. Well, your team's not better, so that's why you're watching it. Aaron Rogers scored a rushing touchdown on the Bears game and was caught yelling to the fans afterwards. I still own you.

He was on the Pat McAfee show yesterday, and he said he has no regrets. It was definitely spur of the moment. But when I get down to my knee and I looked up, all I could see in here was obscenities. And I don't know, just spur of the moment hit my mind. I didn't plan on telling the crowd that I own them. I think based on the statistical reference of my career, Winperson is down there and against them. Definitely our teams have done some good things. He's including the playoffs.

He's 22 and 5 against the Bears as the team starting quarterback. He has the most wins against any opponents. The next closest is 18 wins against the Lions. I had absolutely no problem with Aaron Rogers doing this. Again, Chicago fans aren't going to love it. You know why I love this? Because Aaron Rogers cares. And Aaron Rogers is passionate.

Have I ever seen Jared Gough pump a fist in seven years? Aaron Rogers has been playing this game since he was a little boy, and Aaron Rogers goes to Chicago, scores a touchdown, and he's absolutely can't contain himself. That's exactly what I want for my quarterback. Brady is pumping his fist, 20 years into it, Brady is still in your face. I've told you before. The Aaron I love is the happy Aaron or the pissed Aaron. Yeah. I don't love the ethereal zen-like, I don't know.

I thought about my, it's like, Aaron, keep that to yourself, see a therapist. But Aaron going all in on it and Aaron being ticked off at teammates, that's the great Aaron. And this is the great Aaron. But also, this is what rivalries are. Everyone always complains. There's no rivalries in sports anymore. Everyone just loves each other. There's nothing to, you know, get excited or angry about.

Well, there you go. He owns you, Chicago. I thought it was fan. By the way, I still... We love Chicago, but this was completely appropriate for Aaron to do in that situation. Yeah, and fans, by the way, you get to the end zone. Chicago's a drinker town. Like, you got lubed up a little bit.

Oh, no, I'm sure they had plenty of choice words for him. And that's how it goes. Now, they host Washington and the Packers do on Sunday and are currently favored by eight, according to Fox Bed. Washington's defense is a mess. I actually, I don't love big favorites, but I like Green Bay. Yeah. You know, the thing about Green Bay is I still don't think they're playing great football.

I really don't. And they're winning and they're winning convincingly. So the good news for Green Bay, they have got to eventually develop a consistent number two and three receiver. Because the league's got too many playmakers. And Devonte Adams is ridiculous. But they have got a. They have another gear they can get to. Yeah.

Green Bay is winning and not playing great. Like I feel like there are certain teams. Like, I kind of think with Kansas City, I've seen their best. And I think this year, even, the halves, they're great. I'm like, that's what they are. Yeah. But I do think there's certain teams that have another gear. I think Green Bay's got another gear left.

Well, the new look, Lakers failed to win their first game together. AD and LeBron looks good. Russell Westbrook struggled. And LeBron didn't want Russ to get down on himself. I told Russ to go home and watch a comedy. You know, something that can put a smile on his face. So hard on himself. I told him, don't be so hard on yourself.

It's one game. I mean, it's just, you know, challenging to go into a new system and trying to fit in, but also bring what you bring to the table at a high level to fit out as well. And, you know, if there's three guys on this team that should be worrying about not fitting in, it's probably myself, A.D. and Russ. Well, you did see good things from A.D. and LeBron yesterday. Russ obviously struggled, but I think collectively, we can all agree at this point. Russ is not a shooter, and that's not what he was brought in to do.

Play minutes, play hard, play passion. Bring energy. He's going to have games where he puts up big numbers, but that's not what he should be counted on. Now, they were outscored by 23 points when Westbrook was on the floor. This is also one game. And look, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a little bit of time for the Lakers to get rolling. generally LeBron teams that add a new player or in a new situation take a little time to get things rolling.

In the end, it's LeBron James and in LeBron, I trust. I thought Nick Wright brought something up earlier. LeBron should not be their best three-point shooter, but Rondo's not going to hit him, Westbrook's not going to hit him, Dwight Howard's not going to hit him, AD's not going to hit him. Now, I do not believe playoff basketball is defined by three-point shots, but it's a nice luxury to have. I mean, Milwaukee, you know, Chris Middleton,

will go on tears for a half. They do not. To me, a trading deadline move for them would be to get slightly smaller and another shooter. But for the record, the entire league wants another shooter. They host the Sons on Friday nights. So speaking of Jared Goff, Sean McVeigh will be coming face-to-face with his former quarterback this Sunday. And he said he has regrets about the way everything went down with Goff. I wish that there was better, clear communication.

You don't want to catch guys off guard. It came together a lot faster than anybody anticipated. But yeah, of course. I think that anytime that tough decisions and things like that where people are affected, you always want to be as understanding, as empathetic as possible. Think about it through the other person's lens. And there's certainly things that, you know,

I know I would do it a little bit differently. if I, you know, when those situations arise in the future. I like that he said that, and it's not surprising coming from Sean McVeigh, because he is a very smart individual, and they run a good organization over there. This happens a lot with guys, and we, you know, we dehumanize athletes in a lot of ways in the way that we talk about them and these trades and all, he's going here and he's going there,

and don't think about all of the elements, the personal elements that go into a trade. It's just like, oh, here comes Stafford. there goes golf and it's not like oh their family their life everything that they do is here and on the coast and now they're going to detroit the communication thing to me is always what bothers me it's it's not so much that there are trades there's certain parts of our business that we don't love that exist but they're a part of the business and when you get into it you know you're going to deal with it getting traded possibly getting cut guys moving on things changing that's an inevitable

part of professional sports right even college sports but especially professional you have a awareness that this is going to happen or could happen at all times. But communication, like when organizations tell guys we're never going to trade you, you're not going to be moved, and then two days later, two weeks later, they're gone. It's like, what's the value in that? Because that's the type of stuff that spreads throughout the league. It's an unnecessary thing to do. And I think this is what McVeigh is saying.

Goff told reporters that they had no contact with him from the end of the season until the phone call when he found out it was traded. No contact from McVeigh or the trade. Rams. Well, first of all, let's acknowledge Rams made the right move because McVeigh never won. His two experiences without McVeigh have been disasters. So it was the right move

to make. Here's where I would defend the Rams. It was the right move. Stafford was being pursued by everybody. I mean, we know now, like, eight teams wanted Stafford. I would rather apologize to Gough for not communicating than be a nice guy, spend a day

with Jared, and the Colts get Matt Stafford. No, I don't think it's about spending a with someone. I think it's about having an honest conversation about where they are with the organization and the possibility that you might not be here. But what if I have that? What if I have that with Goff and Goff talks to somebody and it leaks to the... Well, no, maybe that was a concern. And maybe that's what McVeigh doesn't want to say. And that's why they chose to apologize. I don't know how he moves personally and maybe that was a concern. And that's certainly fair from an organizational standpoint. But look, you know, he's

apologizing about it. So, you know, there's nice. Well, I do think it's important. I think that there's a level of dehumanization and the lack of trust in professional sports, which is part of the business. But some of it, just a small part of it, can be avoided through some communication. Yeah.

I'm harsher of that way. I'm like, get the deal done, apologize later. I'm, I'm much more. No, I'm much more of ask for forgiveness and ask for permission for person. I definitely have asked for forgiveness many times. I also think the more you pay somebody and professional sports, much more is asked, and the ending may be a little uglier. Yeah.

Like, if you're firing somebody in a mail room, you don't do it at Christmas. You could fire me at Christmas. I've done well. I think sometimes you... No, no, no, you're right. That's what I'm saying. There's a reality of this in professional sports. Like, there is no loyalty.

The loyalty is for the fans. There is no loyalty on the professional side of professional sports. Right. But I do like when organizations acknowledge, hey, we could have been a little more human about it. Yeah, they're nice. Maybe I'm not nice enough. I don't know. I always figured my compensation dictates that I can be fired on Christmas and I can't complain about it.

I always kind of say, you know, if they have to get rid of me on Christmas, I'm going to have. I think awareness is important about it. Yeah, I get a big cushy office and everything. I feel like they're going to win tonight. I think the Red Sox and the Dodgers will win tonight. We don't talk a lot of baseball regular season on this show. And one of the reasons is, this is behind the, I'll just not waste more than 30 seconds, is this show, basically you've got to give me urgency or stars. Urgency meaning games matter. Well, college football, pro football, you get fewer games. So the games matter more.

NBA, I get a lot of stars. I mean, good God, last night I had like eight stars. Baseball doesn't have a lot of transcendent stars. and you don't get a lot of urgency. When it's great is when I talk about it, which is playoffs. The whole season for the Dodgers came down to the eighth inning. That's when the Dodgers, that's when baseball is unbelievable. Well, it's just, there's no way to explain it.

Even when we show the highlights, like, you just get chills. Because it's just one moment and the whole series changes. The whole season went from dead to very much alive on a single fastball up in the strike zone. And it's so unique in that way from football and basketball. because even though you can have big moments and big shots, there's more of a momentum leading up to it. Like, it can be just complete desperation, and it's one hit, and it's the whole history changes.

Yeah, well, there's not a ton of scoring in baseball. The best players hit 280 to 300. So there's very few opportunities to be great. And then when you get the opportunities, it's hard to hit a baseball. So you get very few opportunities where you get a fastball right in your wheelhouse to knock it out, and it was a remarkable moment. So I do this thing. I've always called it the Super Bowl.

bubble. And it's just so odd that every time I do it, there's always eight teams that I believe really are favorites to win the Super Bowl. And this morning was a prime example. I don't think there's anybody else in the Super Bowl bubble. So this morning I said to the staff, I said, we're going to do some baseball today. We're going to do a lot of NBA today. We'll do more football tomorrow. Baker, not going to play for the Browns. Friday, we'll do tons of football. But I said, let's just do a Super Bowl bubble today. And I swear to God, I didn't know how many teams. would be in it. But this is my Super Bowl bubble as of today. And I don't, this is it. I think Dallas, Green Bay, the Rams, Arizona, four teams from the

NFC, and then five teams, excuse me, Tampa. And then three teams from the AFC, Kansas City, Buffalo, and Baltimore. You know, the Colts have played four good teams. They've lost all of them. Tennessee, I think, has a certain way they can play. I don't love them from behind. They're not in it. San Francisco, I think it would probably be the closest, but I just don't trust their quarterback space. They've got a kid that's not ready to play and the guy that can't stay healthy. I would probably have Seattle would be my one team on the periphery, but Russell Wilson's out. So, and I just don't feel this way about Cleveland. Their defense has been disappointing. It's been very bad on third down. Offensively,

they're not quite as good as I thought. Cleveland's not as good as I thought. There's just not. There's no other way to say it. I don't think the Chargers are good enough defensively through the middle. I think you can run on the Chargers. Cleveland ran on the Chargers. Baltimore ran on the Chargers.

Some of the better teams in the NFL are going to just run the ball down your throat. And I don't think the Chargers are bill. I think the Chargers need another free agency period and another draft. And they're not paying Justin Herbert anything for two or three years. So they can go pay for it and get better on the defensive front and on their interior. So that's where we are today. You know, I don't want to spend a ton of time on it. In fact, I'm going to do it next hour.

I don't want to give it up. I'm not going to give it up this hour. I got something really good here, but I'm not going to give you a freebie. I can't just be giving out freebies. And so I'll just keep it. There we go. I think you're right on the Chargers. That would be the one team that everyone would obviously bring up.

By the way, because they have a great left tackle and great quarterback and great receivers, there's a lot of stuff you like. But they basically, if you gave them Aaron Donald, I'd be like. Like, okay, they can win a Super Bowl. They're just, you can run on them and what happens. And this is the Kansas City issue, but their offense is better. When I can run on you, your quarterback becomes a spectator. Right.

So that is a, now, you can run on Kansas City, but their offense is so outrageously good. And they're experienced and they know how to win. They know how to come from behind. They've been in those situations. So when they are behind, there's no panic. Yeah. Like you saw that in the game this weekend. like, all right, let's just go out there and with this game. Stop falling around.

So, by the way, you know, what is interesting, Steph Curry's an interesting player. So he struggled last night. But this is why Steph Curry is so great. 10 assists, 10 rebounds, and they were plus four when he was on the floor. Westbrook doesn't have the nuance game. He's just a great athlete. Lakers were minus 23 when Westbrook was on the floor because he had a bad shooting night. But it was funny because Curry did not shoot the ball well. But there's so much complexity and nuance to his game, they were still plus four when Steph was on the floor and he didn't shoot. Assists, rebounds.

That's why. It's not a shot at Westbrook. It's just the reason Curry's aging so well and Westbrook isn't is Curry gives you more than just athleticism. All right, hour three coming up next.
