Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
Starting point is 00:01:21 This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:41 From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians,
Starting point is 00:01:54 and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Welcome back to the herd.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Joy Taylor in for Colin Cowherd. He will be back tomorrow for Game 6, which we'll discuss with Ryan Hollins in studio in just a few moments. Alongside Alex Curry, globe-triding Alex Curry, heading off to Italy tonight. I'm very excited slash jealous of you. Don't worry, I'll be blasting everyone's social media.
Starting point is 00:02:54 With all the stories, all the posts, I have a friend who's in Pasitano and Capri right now, which was one of the locations that you're going. That'll be next week. I have a wedding first. It's a family wedding in Florence. Very happy about this wedding location.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Yeah, that's awesome. And it's also where I studied abroad and lived for six months. So it is like my favorite place to go back to. It's beautiful over there. And you're going to have an amazing time. And I'm glad that you were. I was actually quite sure that you had already left or you were leaving today. I texted you last night.
Starting point is 00:03:23 So you are leaving today. Yeah. I have it in my phone. actually. I have a note of when you are leaving down. Well, we have to know each other's schedules, because if you're out, I'm in, calling out, you're in, I'm in. It's like a whole, our schedules have to be a little bit combined. Yes, we are aligned. But I'm very excited for you. Like I said, we'll have Ryan Hollinson studio with us in just a few moments. And we were just talking about this with Nick Wright. The conversation around the PGA tour and the live golf series continues.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Colin and I have spoken about this a lot. I think most people know where I stand on it. But, you know, there are still being asked about this and it is very fresh and new. So a lot of people are still giving their opinions about what's happening with some of the golfers leaving the PGA tour to go play in the live golf series and not being able to play on the PGA tour anymore. It's very controversial. Obviously the live golf series is backed by Saudi Arabia. And John Ram decided to give his opinion on the situation. And here he is discussing the decision for some of these players to leave and why he's decided to stay. We started talking about it and we're like, would a lifestyle change if I got 400 million? No. It will not change one bit.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Truth to be told, I could retire right now with what I've made and I've lived a very happy life and not play golf again. I've never really played the game of golf for monetary reasons. I play for the love of the game and I want to play against the best in the world. I've always been interested in history and legacy. And right now the PGA tour has that. My heart is with a PGA tour. That's all I can say. is not my business or my character to judge anybody who thinks otherwise.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Okay. There's a couple things that he said that I have to push back on. And I don't want to pick apart what he said, but people are giving their opinions on this now, so we're going to react to them. First of all, $400 million is changing anyone's lifestyle. $400 million is important to Elon Musk. It's $400 million.
Starting point is 00:05:17 So, yes, you may not live differently, John, than someone else would with $4.4 million. million dollars, but most people's lives would change with $400 million. I do get the idea that how much money is enough money, how many yachts can you ski behind. I understand that, but making $400 million and not making $400 million is going to change most people's lives and legacy. And this is why when you talk about money and how much money or who takes what money and when they take it becomes a very sticky conversation. You don't know everybody's background. You don't know how many people they have to provide for. Now, of course, $400 million is going to provide.
Starting point is 00:05:52 for a lot of people, which is why I keep saying, $400 million is changing anyone's lifestyle. So first of all, let's just remove that from the conversation. That's not even worth discussing. The other thing that kind of bothers me about what he said here is that he doesn't play golf for money. He says, yeah, money is great, but I've never played the game of golf for monetary reasons.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I love what I do. I love coming to work every day. I love this job. It was my dream, and I am living it. but I wouldn't do it every day for free because then it's a hobby. It's not a job. The difference between doing something for free and doing something for money is that you are a professional. You are a professional golfer. So no, in fact, you don't golf for the love of golf. That's what people do on the weekends for free with their bud lights. That's for the love of golf. What you do is for money
Starting point is 00:06:44 because you are a professional. So how one particular golfer feels about how much money they make, and what they enjoy doing to the next is really no one's business, and it's why this conversation is so difficult for me. First of all, you don't golf because you love it. You may love golf, but you golf because they pay you to golf. Otherwise, we wouldn't be talking about you, and we wouldn't be playing this clip on the air. So that's just, that's not true.
Starting point is 00:07:07 It is factually inaccurate that you play for the love of golf. You play for money, period, because you are a professional by definition. So my issue with the conversation around this is first and foremost that it's golf. the least inclusive most elitist sport we have being precious i'm sorry does not fall on me the way that i feel like everyone it's falling on everyone else also conveniently leaving out the history of the pga tour whenever we talk about all of this moral grandstanding that's going on also ignoring the human rights issues that go on in our own country that no one seems to be bringing up it's not excusing what's going on in saudi arabia it's not excusing what's happened
Starting point is 00:07:49 My issue is where do you draw the line? Do you stop working for pharmaceutical companies? Where is the line drawn? Because you're starting down that road when you're picking and choosing how you judge people based off of where they take their money from. You don't always know where your money is coming from and you don't always know where the product is that you're buying. So I don't like defining, oh, this person is a good person because they're taking their money from this place. The PGA tour, the PGA tour, whose biggest tournament is the Masters? the Masters, where you had your first black player in 1975, your first black member in 1990, your first female member in 2012, it's 2022. The preciousness is just the pearl clutching. It's just not sitting well with me. I'm just saying it's very easy to tell someone not to take $125 million when you've never been offered $125 million. Let's bring in Ryan Holland's former MBA Center, Rockets TV analyst.
Starting point is 00:08:47 welcome Ryan into my heated rant what's up was there you come in real hot joy oh man I'm just saying Ryan you got a lot of kids you know yeah yeah no no I'm taking the money 400 mil Italian vacations
Starting point is 00:09:02 a lot going on right now instead it's hot yeah we're not giving out $400 million but I would take $400 million as well I'm not going to pretend like I'm above that so it's been a fun series it's been an exciting series
Starting point is 00:09:14 I really enjoyed it I picked the Warriors and 7 to start so nothing has been really surprising to me throughout the series. There's been a lot of questions about Jason Tatum and we'll get to that. But what do you think happens tomorrow night in game six in Boston? You know what? I have Warriors in Six. I think
Starting point is 00:09:30 it is going to go seven. I think Boston is much better than we thought. I think they've had the Warriors on the ropes and just experience one out. Steph had to wake up and be Steph Curry and he gave us that historical performance that people have been waiting on.
Starting point is 00:09:46 I think in terms of Boston, their energy, their effort is what's made them different. That set them apart. And I know a lot of people are picking at Jason Tatum, but Jason Tatum is taking what the defense gives him. And what he's doing is he's drawing two guys. He's kicking it. His plus minus is excellent and off the charts.
Starting point is 00:10:07 And it's just rare that you have that Kevin Durant like score. You have that LeBron James. I think Jason Tatum can evolve into one of those type of players. But right now, Boston wins with their energy, their effort. the way that they compete. And when they got that identity back, they had success. I go back to Tatum's rookie year. That's what they were.
Starting point is 00:10:25 That's the way that they played. So I think that's where their success comes from. And you fall in love with Tatum because he is capable of a 40-point outbursts. And if you ask the Golden State Warriors, they're loading up on him. Andrew Wiggins is having to guard him, and he's done an excellent job. What do you make of what EMA's done this year? Because when I think of the Celtics, obviously, you think of Jason Tatum, you think of Marcus Smart, you think of Jalen Brown.
Starting point is 00:10:46 but this core's been together for quite some time. They've been good for quite some time. And this year, it's very different. And to me, that catalyst was Ima Eudoka. What do you think? It's the next wave. It's what we've seen Joanne Howard do at Michigan. It's what the Lakers hope that Darwin Ham can be.
Starting point is 00:11:06 There's a language that a former player can speak to a player that we understand. It's locker room talk. It's, hey, get back on defense. And not to say to Brad Stevens wasn't excellent. He's literally a genius when it comes to drawing plays. But as far as relating, speaking the language, I'ma Udoca does this. And I think this is a name that as new head coaches come out,
Starting point is 00:11:26 they're going to be looking for that next Ime Udoka, the guy who can put the star over the top. And like I said, I think the Lakers have gotten ahead of the curve with Darvin Hamm and hoping for similar results. But, I mean, he's just been amazing. They compete. They play together.
Starting point is 00:11:40 They play hard. And your job, I'me's hard is, Emay's job is essentially to get his stars to be on the same page. His young stars are on the same page. Jason Tatum could step up and say, man, I want 20 shots a night, 25 shots a night, and he's good enough to do that. They wouldn't have the same success if that's the way that he played.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Now he's going to evolve into that guy that can go and get it, I believe. But right now, they bought into that culture, and EMA is absolutely everything to do with that. We've got Ryan Hollins in studio. So there's been, we're talking about Jason Tatum, a little conversation about whether he's a superstar and he's been, I guess, not living up to the expectations of being the best player on a team that's in the finals. That's actually what I think he's a victim of.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Because to your point, he's not been bad. They're not winning in spite of him. He's doing things in different ways, doing what he can do based off of what the defense is giving him. But the series isn't over, and he's been amazing in elimination games throughout this particular postseason. He's played in three of them, and he's been unbelievable in those elimination games, which is why I think he's going to have a big game tomorrow night. But what do you think the narrative is on Jason Tatum right now? And is it fair?
Starting point is 00:12:47 He's knocking on the door. Now, it's not fair in a sense that we're so used to anointing the next guy. We wanted to do it with Jimmy Butler. We came one game away from doing it with Jimmy Butler. We've been spoiled. We went from Magic to Michael to Kobe, to LeBron, to Kevin Duran, a little bit of Kauai. We want to do it with Jason Tatum. It's just not there yet.
Starting point is 00:13:10 I think it will be there. I think we're in an extremely intriguing place in the NBA where there's no one. I don't care. I challenge any analysts to come at me with this take. There's no best player in the NBA right now. It's on any given night. You can count out it could be yon andesant to the coupo. It could be LeBron James with a squad around him.
Starting point is 00:13:29 It could be Kevin Durant. There's no guy, Jason Tatum, when he dropped, what, 43, 45, Steph Curry looked like at the last game. If Steph Curry had another back-to-back 40 piece, we'd have lost our minds. I don't think there's a guy right now. I don't know if it's the conditioning that these guys go through in the season. I don't know if it's the, you know, lack of mid-range game shot in the game right now. I'm not sure what it is, but we don't have that next guy to crown as much as we want to. And I think Jason Tatum falls into that.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Tatum, we want to crown you were so used to doing it with LeBron and Katie and those. We just can't do it right now. And I don't think that's any disrespect to Jason Tatum. He's playing winning basketball. Look at his plus my. I'm a team guy, Joe. I'm plus minus, so he's had his effect on this series. No, I absolutely agree with you.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Not only do I think that there's not a consensus best player in the game right now, I don't think that there was a great team this year. And, you know, I was talking this weekend about, you know, just some of the, I guess, not misconceptions, but stereotypes about the NBA that I don't think are actually playing out this year. A lot of, now, the referees are fair. This is like it's been a lot for everybody. but aside from the referees and how the games are being called, the idea that there's still super teams, there aren't.
Starting point is 00:14:46 No. The idea that these guys aren't, they're not tough, that's not true. A lot of it has been defense throughout the postseason. A lot of it has been big guys stepping up and having their moments and contributing, and a lot of it's been coaching. It's been who has had a deeper team. So I agree with you. I don't think there's a consensus best player,
Starting point is 00:15:05 and I don't think that there was a great team this year. No, you're absolutely right. And you know it's so funny, Joy, everybody couldn't stand the Golden State Warriors. Everybody couldn't stand having a villain in the NBA or a hero, however you looked at it or where you lived. And now you're right. We stepped in from our side as analysts. We didn't know who to pick. When you looked at these four teams, you did not know who to pick.
Starting point is 00:15:28 And we still could go either way. We saw this happen with Milwaukee. And Boston walked them down in one game six and in one game seven. So it is not a foregone conclusion that Golden State. just wins this in six or wins it in seven as much as we like to lean on their experience. It's not a foregone conclusion. Boston is more physical. They're tougher. They can point out the mismatches in Golden States lineup. Bigger. And then they attack them. And I think the question is, are they going to do it on the boards with their toughness? Are they going to go small?
Starting point is 00:15:58 Did they give too much attention to Curry, which I thought so last game? Or did they give too little to Curry when he busted them up for, what, 43 points? So I think there's a lot of factors in there. But I think, man, Boston is no pushover. I think everybody who's writing them off, you might want to relax a little bit. Oh, I'm definitely not writing them off, but I also think this is going to go seven. So throughout the panic that's gone on through this series, I'm like, guys, you want these to be long series. In order for it to be long series, both teams have to lose. It's going to be okay. If you make it to seven, that's a great situation. Who among us doesn't want to game seven other than, of course, Warriors fans who definitely want to get this
Starting point is 00:16:36 done tonight. But yeah, I mean, I think that when it comes to the warriors, they're very patriot-like and that they're not going to beat themselves. So I think the turnovers, and maybe this is some inexperience with Boston, is what's really hurting Boston. Because to your point, they're very well matched up. They have the ability to score. Obviously, you have Jason Tatum, you have Jalen Brown, who's been unbelievable. So they can match the warriors in that way. We saw them go on a three-point run in this last game. The Warriors were just able to bounce back from it, unlike how they were in game one. So, yeah, I don't think that it's a question of, you know, is Boston capable?
Starting point is 00:17:13 It's are they going to beat themselves? No, you're absolutely right. And I think they have to find a way to finish. That's the problem when you get two, the ball just finds your energy, next man up, you know, who's going to take this shot? I think the challenge we'll address this for Ime Udoka is saying, what are our looks down to stretch? How do we get Jason Tatum to basketball?
Starting point is 00:17:34 and how do we get Andrew Wiggins off him? And I say get Andrew Wiggins off him because Andrew Wiggins is lights out guarding him. He's playing career basketball and it's on the defensive end of the floor. Shoot, he could be finals MVP. Some made challenge, but Steph did make history and he is Steph. And you notice Steph haters going to be out there cheer for that. But ultimately, he has to find a way to get Wiggins off him, get Tate in the basketball when they need a shot and they need something that they can go to.
Starting point is 00:17:58 The one thing he's done a great job of, but it may not finish well in the fourth quarters is they're like, all right, where's Jordan Poole at? all right, go attack him. Where's Steph Curry at? Go attack him. Excellent game plan. But you got to get the ball to your guys or whoever the hot hand is or, hey, man, go let Taylor be that dude. Put the ball in his hands, put him in possessions to be successful and let him go and get it. And I think every NBA player, star player has a sweet spot. I remember playing with Paul Pierce. Paul Pierce would like to get to that elbow, go work out, get to a signature step back. Dirk Novitsky on that left block, right leg up, the fade away. You can guard it.
Starting point is 00:18:32 So you've got to get Tatum in his sweet spot. And right now he's taking what the defense dictates, and you got to get him where you want him to be. I'm glad you brought up Andrew Wiggins because I was going to ask you. He's been unbelievable. And I'm genuinely happy for him because I love seeing people go to functional situations with no drama, good cultures, and be able to thrive when they've been written off. And he has just completely bought into everything.
Starting point is 00:19:00 He was a great teammate throughout the year. He didn't want to get vaccinated. He leaned into that. He did whatever he needed to do to be able to get out there. And we've seen players not do that this year, and it has cost their team. I think he deserves all the credit in the world. He's been unbelievable. He does.
Starting point is 00:19:14 And I give even more credit to the Golden State Warriors and their front office, Bob Myers and Kerr and everybody. Why? When you pay somebody that much money, there's normally the expectation of joy, like shots, right? Like he's got to score 30 a game. We're paying them. They say, you know what, Jordan Poole? You get the great.
Starting point is 00:19:30 light. Wiggins, be comfortable. I feel like he had been forced into a role in Minnesota that he wasn't comfortable with. And now they're like, play defense, hit an open three, run the floor. We need you. You're going to have a Jason Tate on the play against. You're going to have a LeBron James you have to compete against. We need you. And you know, we don't need you to be, Kevin Durant. He came right behind. Those are hard shoes to fill. And you know, mentally I'll say as a former athlete, you're thinking about the guy before you. You're thinking of the guy before you. You're thinking about what you're supposed to be, and he's saying, I'm going to be me. And never at one point in time that he forced it or try to be that. And hats off to the Warriors for not saying, these are your
Starting point is 00:20:10 expectations. He got realistic expectations. And on that same note, Joe, I'm going to throw this to you. The Warriors are the new spurs, man. See, it's interesting you say that, because I, I feel like the Celtics are more spur-like than the Warriors. In this sense, in this sense. We've created excellent. We drafted, right? We're- We're homegrown. Okay, we trinkled in a little KD, but ultimately we still have our guys a little older, a little more banged up, little injured, and then we have some more homegrown talent than we've been able to acquire and still playing at a high level of success.
Starting point is 00:20:46 I agree with you there. I think the image of the Warriors is not accurate to what they really are. A lot of people talk about culture and homegrown and draft and develop and do things the right way, but then they don't include the warriors in it. And I'm like, hold up. First of all, the Warriors won a championship before KD got there with this core group. So that's one.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Two, the Warriors were in place. They managed their team in a way that they could keep that core group that already won a championship and add someone like Kevin Durant. So complain about how bad your front office is. Why are you mad at the Warriors? Because they do business better than you do.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Do better. I can't be mad at the Warriors for being able to be in a position to do. that. But it's also similar to what happened with LeBron when he went to the heat. Like this idea, and it was a super team, but this idea that they just wrote a check, nah, they all took less money to play
Starting point is 00:21:40 together. There were sacrifices made to do that. They had to be very strategic with the role players that they brought in, they brought in because they had those three guys there. So I think the idea that the Warriors are like this super team that just writes a check to their championships, like no, that's wildly
Starting point is 00:21:55 inaccurate. Everyone should be doing business the way the Warriors do it. I always look at it like this Joy, if we're going to play some pickup basketball and just about everybody has, I'm not stacking my team with bums, no disrespect. I'm going. Because there's proof a point? I'm going to get the ringers. I'm going, him, him and him, you playing with me.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Or you walk into a gym, hey, hey, hey, who are you playing? Who you and me? Sit the next game. We'll play. You do that. It's no different in the NBA players speak amongst themselves. You want to load yourself up ultimately with the best team, the best players, you know, that you can get.
Starting point is 00:22:27 And I think in that same note, hey, you know what, Warriors, you do what everybody did. But if they win a championship right now, if they win this one, they dispel all of that. And they say it wasn't Kevin Durant. It was us. And to me, it's not about KD. It's about having your worth and finding that chip on your shoulder. And I don't think staff or Clay or Draymond are doing it any type of a disrespectful fashion.
Starting point is 00:22:50 I think it's respect the work that we put in, guys. And we want to dispel all narratives. And I think as a pro athlete, as a business exec, you've got to keep. keep that chip on your shoulder. And that is fair of the warriors that have a chip on their shoulder, but not taking it out of balance and out of context, where it's all about Kevin Durant, because now he's living rip-free in your head.
Starting point is 00:23:09 But I think ultimately at the end of day, Kevin Durant wants to do his best for him and be a championship, get a championship and have something that he developed. And the Warriors want to show, hey, we love you, but we didn't need you. Well, I don't even know that it's that they didn't need him. They did need him. He was the finals MVP, and they won two championships with him. They did need him when he was there.
Starting point is 00:23:28 He made a little too easy. I mean, come on. What are you talking about? They lost also with him. I understand he got injured, but like this is how things go. There's injuries throughout the postseason. Nothing is handed. Nothing is given.
Starting point is 00:23:40 You know this. So you can have a great team and it's still all fall apart in the ends. I do agree. If they win the championship this year, that's going to close the book on that, that whole narrative that they bought their way or it was too easy or that they weren't capable or that they quote unquote needed him, which I do think they did need him, obviously, because they won with him. Therefore, you needed him.
Starting point is 00:23:58 I don't think it takes anything away. from that. We kind of blur the lines of legacy when it comes to that. Speaking of finals MVP, it's kind of interesting because it's like it feels like it's Steph, right? But Andrew Wiggins has been unbelievable. And I think Jalen Brown, if the Celtics win, has to get finals MVP. Now I know there's still time, Jason Tatum could have two back-to-back, you know, 40-point games and it changes things. But right now, as it stands, who would you give it to? It's Steph Curry. I think he scored in 29 plus in the first three games, then he dropped that 43 ball. And if you take a look, and from my standpoint, when we're scouting Steph Curry, and I see what Boston did,
Starting point is 00:24:35 he got face guarded, he got double teamed. They're like, yo, those other four guys have to beat us. When he was running to the weak side, his man would just be running with just turning his head blindly. That's the Cardinals sending basketball. When you run to the weak side, just was the turn being help side. With Steph Curry, there was no help side. So I think hands down unanimously, Steph Curry is the finals MVP. Now, hats off to Andrew Wiggins, but Wiggins is in a role where it's like,
Starting point is 00:24:59 Dude, just play defense, grab some boards, hustle. He's relaxed. There's a different load on Steph Curry. And I think it's tough because if Steph Curry sees that same defense, forgive me, he's not Dirk, he's not LeBron, he's not KD. He may not shoot the ball well. He may not have a great night, but I don't think that diminishes his impact and importance and why Wiggins got wide open shots.
Starting point is 00:25:23 And Gary Payton, the second, got wide open shots. because Steph Curry was on the floor and those other guys stepped up and Draymond stepped up and as a unit they were successful and I'm intrigued because role players normally play better at home. That same exact same blueprint
Starting point is 00:25:39 may be the reason why Boston wins but the comeback full circle, Steph Curry, by far MVP even though he didn't score. What if it's the Celtics? You said what? What if it's the Celtics? I think you got to go. Assuming things trend in the direction that they have been with Jason
Starting point is 00:25:53 Tatum. I think I stay with Tatum. I think you got to give it to Jalen Brown. Jalen Brown has been excellent, but Jalen Brown ain't getting that same attention. And I think you're right. I think that Tatum has to have a, he got to have two lights out performances. He closes out six and seven in a monster way. He's going to be the, he's not been contributing offensively either. Like he's putting up three point games or something. But I do think Jalen Brown has been, he's been that little extra. Jailen Brown is not getting Andrew Wiggins. He's not getting the same.
Starting point is 00:26:26 energy that Tatum is getting. That's no disrespect to Jaylen Brown. He's a dog. And that's what makes Boston good because they're deep. But I would say, in a sense, it's going to have to be Tatum. But Tatum, put it like this too. I hate to say, Tatum's going to have to go 25, 30 plus for them to win, potentially. Oh, yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:26:43 That will spring him into it. And I think if Jaylen Brown has those type of numbers, I don't know if they necessarily win. Thanks for joining us today, Ryan. Very excited for tomorrow night. So you are taking who tomorrow night? You had the Warriors and Six. You're going to stick with it? Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Do you make me go against my pick? Are you going to stick with it? I didn't know Boston was that good. I didn't know they were that good. Ryan, I'm with you. I pick Warriors and Six. Yes. I'm going to go seven.
Starting point is 00:27:09 I'm going to go seven. You're going to go Warriors and Seven? Yes, Warriors and Seven. Warriors and Seven. I think Boston wins tomorrow. I think it's going to be a very, very intense environment more than any game that we've seen throughout this postseason. So I'm looking forward to it.

Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:28:10 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th.

Listen to Stuff to Blow Your Mind on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your problem. podcast. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Starting point is 00:30:37 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. The final weekend of the USFL regular season is here. And Saturday, the championship favorite Birmingham Stallions,
Starting point is 00:30:59 look to get ready for the playoffs in a showdown, the Tampa Bay Bandits at 4 Eastern on Fox. Then on Sunday, the New Orleans Breakers and the Houston Gamblers square off under the lights at 8.30 Eastern on FS1, USFL football, Saturday and Sunday on Fox and FS1. Joy Taylor in for Colin Coward, with Alex Curry. Calm will be back tomorrow for game six.
Starting point is 00:31:22 Thanks to Ryan Hollins for hanging out with us there. Nick Wright joining us earlier. Let's get to Alex Curry with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, Deshawn Watson held his first press conference yesterday since March 25th, and he addressed the new lawsuits,
Starting point is 00:31:40 reclaiming that he has never assaulted any women that he wants to clear his name. Now, following his presser, Tony Busby, the attorney for the women involved, released a statement, and he said, given the volume of the credible cases filed, the undisputed fact and the heartbreak, pain, and havoc Watson has caused, we think it would be appropriate to see Deshawn Watson, express some regret or remorse in the way he treated these women, some of which have sued, and many others haven't yet. Attending some sort of counseling would at least be a step forward. Now, Busby said, many. We don't know what many
Starting point is 00:32:17 is. Right now, there are currently 24 cases against Watson, two more pending, and the New York Times article reported that he had 66 different massage therapists. This whole situation makes me sick to my stomach. It's not a coincidence that 24 women have the exact same situation and the same story, and much more. You talked about this earlier. The way this is going to be handled is going to be a very big deal. 24. Those are just the ones that have felt comfortable coming forward right now. Let me put that forward.
Starting point is 00:32:50 It is very hard as a woman to come through in a situation like this because most of the time you are not believed. Well, yeah, I believe you and I have had conversations about this off air. I've talked to many people off air about this. And I've been very strategic how I've talked about this on air for multiple reasons. One of them being, which you just mentioned, which. is that when situations like this come to light and become public, there is an immediate reaction that everyone is lying. And by everyone, I mean, of course, the women. And that is, there's the,
Starting point is 00:33:26 you know, innocent until proven guilty. And, you know, it's all about money. And, you know, all of these labels just immediately get thrown on to the situation. As I said earlier, my opinion about this has been the same from day one. Nothing that's happened has changed how I feel about this story and what's got on. If you needed 24 cases to be convinced that this was a real story instead of 22, I feel like talk to more people.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Talk to more women in your life. I mean, most women I know have dealt with sexual assault at some level and that's because most women have dealt with sexual assault at some level. That's just what the numbers are. That's just the reality of being a woman. And in this particular situation,
Starting point is 00:34:09 as I said earlier, I am no longer I'm not that I'm not longer interested but nothing's going to come out that's going to change my opinion about what's happened with Deshawn Watson all I'm concerned about now is what is the NFL going to do because it was catastrophic what happens with Ray Rice
Starting point is 00:34:25 in that whole situation and there were very simple things that could have been done to avoid that happening and my fear and anxiety with this situation is that that is going to be a situation that repeats itself and the fallout from that is is not great. And keep in mind, whatever your opinion about women and sports, 50% of the fans of the NFL are women.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Why is that? Because there's women. There's men and there's women and there's people in the world. Like, that's what it is. So there are female fans. And this does, whether you feel like it does or care of it does, it matters. A lot. To us. I won't speak for all women. I'll speak for me and Alex. It matters to us. Like how the NFL handles this matters to me. This is a big deal. And I hope we've come a long way since the last situation to where the right thing happens. Yeah. Just leave it there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Moving on. Kyler Murray's contract situation is still up in the air, but Cliff Kingsbury is hoping everything gets resolved soon. I'm praying before training camp. I just want him there. They want a training camp. There's no doubt. I mean, he's the leader of this franchise. You know, we're about to make him.
Starting point is 00:35:37 I'm sure the highest paid player is franchise history. And so he understands what comes with that. And the guys know what he can be at his best. And any time we can get the whole band out there, things pick up. Well, let's note a few things. Kyler is set to earn $5.5 million this season and $29.7 million next year after his fifth year option was picked up for 2020. However, he wants a new deal that puts him on par with the contracts of some of the top-tier quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Deshawn Watson, and Dak Prescott.
Starting point is 00:36:11 There has been a lot of off-season drama with this whole situation. And Joy, I know you and I both agree on this. Pay your quarterback. If you have the guy, you have the guy that you believe that can help you win your division, get you to the postseason, win a Super Bowl, what are you waiting for? This is what it's all about, is the most important position on the field, the one that has the biggest impact, not only game to game, but on your friends. franchise on the outcome of your season.
Starting point is 00:36:40 If you have the guy, just pay him. Yeah, I'm with you. I think it's a good problem to have. I never understood why teams, you draft a guy, you develop him, he gets better. It's time for him to get paid. And you're like, oh, where are we going to find the money? Like, who are you planning on paying?
Starting point is 00:36:57 Why do you care about paying? Honestly, no disrespect, but why do you care about paying anyone else? This is the, if you don't have the quarterback, everything else that you do, has a ceiling. Like you've got to have the guy. We've seen this over and over and over again. So this should be the position that you are,
Starting point is 00:37:15 you are planning for the most. Now, I do think Kyler is going to get paid. It's just a question of when. And when you get into, that's where it starts to become complicated. I don't think that the Sean Watson's contract is going to reset the market because I think that that whole entire situation is going to end an unmitigated disaster.
Starting point is 00:37:33 So I don't think that, that players in the future are going to hold that. contract up and teams are going to say, yeah, like we're going to do business out of Cleveland Browns do business. Nobody says that. So I, where immediately I thought that would be a, reset for the market. Now I don't feel that way. So I think he's going to be somewhere in the DAC Prescott, Derek Carr range, which is more than fair. And it makes sense. And I don't think you need to plan for 15 years from now when you're talking about your quarterback. Plan for the next three to four. That's what, that's what you should be paying attention to when
Starting point is 00:38:07 comes the quarterback. And don't you want to not only pay your guys sooner, so you're not stuck behind that next big contract, and then you have to pay even more? And then on top of that, you're going to make him feel happier and more welcome earlier on. So he's going to go into the season with a better attitude and mindset and want to help you win, opposed to having any sort of animosity heading into the season. Yes, yes, yes. Lots of reasons. Pay your guys. All right, moving on. Steph Curry is having one of the best finals performances of his career, and to no one's surprise. He is currently the heavy favorite to win finals MVP. According to Fox Bet, he is currently favored at minus 333. Now, Steph, this finals is averaging a series high 30.6 points per game. He's already
Starting point is 00:38:50 made 25 three pointers in this series. It's the third time in his career he's made at least 25. And he needs eight more three pointers to break his own record for most in a finals that he set in 2016. I believe I did pick the Warriors to win in six. I did pick Steph to win finals MVP. So this is all right align with everything I said on Fox Bet Live. But I do believe that Steph is going to go off in game six because he had such an uncharacteristic game five. Steph, my cuss for MVP, let's go. Yeah, I don't think he's going to repeat the performance that he had in game five. I do, I agree with you there. I think he's going to be better. And that sense.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Not that he was bad. He obviously still contributed in other ways. But I do think he's going to be better. I think it's going to go seven. So I just think that Jason Tatum is going to have a big night tomorrow night. And that they're going to force it back to Golden State. And then Golden State will get the win there. But I don't say I'm rooting for Golden State.
Starting point is 00:39:54 But I will say I like the idea that Steph could truly get, not just as flowers. And I do think people respect Steph Curry, but if he gets this finals MVP, that's another jewel in the crown for his, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:10 legacy and career. And that's been sort of the question about Seth Curry is, you know, is he big in the finals? And we obviously judge the greats by how they are in big moments. And so I would like that for
Starting point is 00:40:23 Steph Curry because I think he's just, he's just such an incredible player, but in what he's given to the game. He's changed the game. He completely changed the game. He inspired it an entire generation. Oh, if he can do it, I can do it too.
Starting point is 00:40:37 Yes, which is, especially for a sport like basketball, it's kind of rare. Like I wanted to be Michael Jordan, right? But we all kind of knew like, we're not going to be Michael Jordan. We just want to try and be like Michael Jordan. And Steph made it feel attainable. And in some ways, I think, I think in some ways that's actually not hurt him, but I think that the idea that people think they could be Steph Curry makes it feel like he's not really as great as he is. I always point to this.
Starting point is 00:41:07 When you talk about Steph Curry being the greatest shooter of all time, it's not just that he's wildly accurate. And this is the one thing that's irritating about talking about basketball with people because it's because we go play basketball and we don't go play football. I think a lot of people feel like. You can go down the street and there's a court. Yes. So people feel like they can go play. I play. So the idea that they could do.
Starting point is 00:41:29 do what Steph Curry does night in and night out. Like I've had conversations people like, Steph's not that strong. Like listen, just listen to me. Okay. The three point line in the NBA is so far. You could, you would throw your shoulder out just trying to hit the basket.
Starting point is 00:41:46 Yeah. Let alone shoot that with someone in your face at a split second moment. Stop it. Like the fact that he does that night in a night out with the volume that he does with the accuracy that he does is unprecedented. It's always the conversation.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Like he's not that strong. Stop it. Like, Steph Curry is way stronger than you. Oh, yeah. He is very good at basketball. And I'm excited to see how these next two games go. There's a lot of basketball left. There's a lot.
Starting point is 00:42:13 But if he ends up winning the finals MVP, I'll be very happy for him. It's deserved. He is one of my all-time favorite players. He's unbelievable. I don't know. The last name might help a little bit. I guess.
Starting point is 00:42:24 That's Alex Curry with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. Think about your happy place. Maybe it's on your sofa, on game day. Maybe it's your fishing boats. Wherever your happy place is,

The Dollar Shave Club Six Blade Razor brings noticeably smooth shaves with six stainless steel blades for swift hair removal and a lubricating strip that keeps things smooth. Starting point is 00:46:56 The NFL season is in camp mode right now, mandatory mini camps. And we've had an interesting off season with the NFL, pretty wild. And I'm going to give you my trending up and trending down teams very early, very early. Okay, so these are not in stone for everyone who's going to start freaking out.
Starting point is 00:47:15 But the way I see things right now, we'll start with the teams that are trending down. this season for me. Starting with the Cowboys. I am salty at the Cowboys. I'll be honest about it. I'm petty about them. I've spent enough time buying into the Cowboys. It's silly. I don't know why I do it. My mom is a Cowboys fan. I love Skip Bayliss. Maybe that's why I am sensitive to these cowboys, but it's nonsense. They've won three playoff games in 25 years. I'm not into it anymore. I do think that they lost a lot of key pieces. They won 12 games and won the NFC East
Starting point is 00:47:44 last season. I don't think that they are going to do as well this season. The loss of Marie Cooper, obviously, which was huge. Lyle Collins, Cedric Wilson, Randy Gregory, Xavier Woods. I think the Cowboys are trending down. The Packers won 13 games and won the NFC North last season, and then, of course, lost in their first home playoff game as the number one seed to the wildcard Niners.
Starting point is 00:48:05 They lost Devante Adams, which I don't think is replaceable. It feels like at this point Aaron Rogers is just enjoying the twilight years of his career. He's talking a lot about retiring. I don't like their other losses as well. Markis Valde Scantling, Zedarius Smith. I think they're trending down. They're not going to do as well this year. The Titans are completely out on the Titans.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Titans won 12 games with the number one seed in the AFC last season. Sacked Joe Burrow nine times and still lost in the playoffs. And they lost A.J. Brown and Julio Jones. And they're starting linebackers. I don't like the Titans this year. I don't like relying solely on Derek Henry or having to lean too much into Ryan's Hannah-Hill throwing the ball, especially when he doesn't have A.J. Brown. Titans trending down.
Starting point is 00:48:44 The Niners. one 10 games went to the NFC championship game last year. That was what Jimmy Garapolo. They're going to have essentially a rookie quarterback this year. They also lost their offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniel. How is that going to affect them? I just don't think that they're going to have that kind of run. Now, they might have a decent regular season,
Starting point is 00:49:05 but I don't see them going that far in the postseason trending down. And way down is the Cleveland Browns. I am so out on the Cleveland Browns. I sold my stock on them a while ago. But I don't think Deshaun Watson's going to play a game for them this season, which Jacoby Brissette will be the quarterback there. In this division, that's not going to get it done. They also lost Jarvis Landry, Austin Cooper.
Starting point is 00:49:25 They obviously added Amari Cooper, but if Deshawn Watson's not throwing to him and I don't think that it matters, Browns are trending down. All right, positives, trending up. Obviously the Denver Broncos added Russell Wilson. We've talked about how they've been a quarterback away forever. Now they do have a new head coach. He is an offensive guy, Nathaniel Hackett.
Starting point is 00:49:43 I do think it's going to be an easy start for them this season. They have the easiest schedule to start the season in the NFL for the first nine games. I think the Broncos are trending way up. The Colts won nine games and obviously notoriously missed the playoffs, which got Carson Wentz up out of there. But I like Matt Ryan here. I think the Colts are a very, very sneaky team. I'm going to pay very close attention to them up with the Colts.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Also up with the Eagles. I'm down on the Cowboys, up on the Eagles. Another year with Jalen Hertz. Seriani's going to be more comfortable another year. They won nine games and reached the playoffs last season. And they added AJ Brown. high on the Eagles. The Dolphins reluctantly. They won nine
Starting point is 00:50:17 games, missed the playoffs, but they did add Mike McDaniel trend offense, Tyreek Hill, Cedric Wilson, Chase Edmonds. Love the additions that they've made. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I do think Tua is going to be better this year. They're trending up. And finally, the Chargers, Justin Herbert. They won nine games and missed the playoffs last season.
Starting point is 00:50:34 But I think they have to make the playoffs this year. They have to. So I think they're going to be coached a little bit more conservatively, which I think is smart. Also, obviously, added Khalil Mack and J.C. So the Chargers are trending up this season. But yeah, they got to make the playoffs this year. There's going to be, I think, some changes there. I can't waste another year with Justin Herbert.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Joy Taylor in for Colin Cowherd alongside Alex Curry. He's headed off to Italy right after the show. When we come back, we'll talk game six tomorrow night.
