No, here we go. It's our two and a Friday, live in L.A. It's the herd wherever you may be in. However, you may be listening, IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1. Joy Taylor, I've got to tell you a story. Okay. L.A. County is the second biggest county in America in terms of size, and it also has 10 million people.

Correct. So L.A. County is enormous. It takes you an hour and a half to drive from... In traffic, it can take you three hours to drive from one side of the county to the other. A lot of people. A lot of people. I think Duval County in Florida is bigger. Not as many people, but bigger. but just in terms of population size.

So whenever I see like, you know, L.A. County has this rule with COVID. I always think it's like three different counties. There's the desert part. There's the city part. There's the beach part. It's like it's not one county. It doesn't fall under an umbrella. We're a little different out here.

Yeah. Stop comparing us to your like town. It's not. I mean, literally there are in Los Angeles, when you watch the local weather, they give you three weather reports. They give you three temperatures. I live by the beach. I get that one.

There's the city one. then there's the desert one. And we all watch the same, you know, NBC, Fox News or whatever it is. And it's three different weather reports. So it ain't Cincinnati here. It's a different place to live. So speaking of Ohio, so Baker Mayfield, what are the chances this would happen? He comes out to Los Angeles because our surgeons are better than yours.

And he gets his shoulder worked on, right? Correct. And he's run into two friends of mine in the last two days. He's getting physical therapy, a friend of mine's at physical therapy. a friend of mine's at physical therapy. And he's just, you know, he didn't want to bother him. And then last night, he goes to a restaurant in Manhattan Beach, one of my dear friends, David Slay, that's his restaurant.

So David doesn't follow, he's busy, right? He owns multiple restaurants. So Baker Mayfield is there. He's staying at the Shade Hotel, which is where I got married to Ann. So he's staying, I've had 10 people text me. I just saw Baker Mayfield. And he's a pretty famous guy, a billion commercials. And he's hanging out there with his buddies and stuff here and with this beautiful

wife, Emily. And, you know, everybody thinks I, like, if we ran into each other, what would happen? I would be like, hi, Baker. And he'd be like, hi, Colin. You've already ran into each other. He's been on the show, guys. Yeah, it's fine. So, and not everybody likes me. I'm not always very likable. So he goes to a restaurant last night. And my friend, my chef comes up to him, sits down at their table. There had been a disturbance outside the door where somebody was smoking and being kind gross and it was kind of a situation where he was yapping and it was just sometimes you get this you know it's Los Angeles and so the chef went to Baker's table to apologize to him he had no idea of who he was and he goes oh thank you thank you thank you thank you um what's your name he said

oh Baker Mayfield and my friend goes oh doesn't my friend Colin Carrard give you a hard time Baker was funny he could not have been more complimentary he was very nice you know he's very very nice, very classy. And Baker, he apologized for the guy outside. So Baker had bought that, picked up that guy's check because Baker saw the guy was struggling perhaps mentally and physically. So Baker picked up his check. Very classy thing to do. That guy later came back into the restaurant and created a disturbance. They had to call fire police. You know, my friend's like, this is, I've owned restaurants for 35 years, nothing like this. It happens on the night Baker Mayfield's here. It was the craziest thing.

And of course, my friend is concerned about, you know, his safety and everything. Everybody was fine. But he's like, that poor guy comes into my restaurant, he probably thinks this is a, he goes, I've been doing in the restaurant business for 35 years. I've never had a night like last night. But I will say this is sometimes I'm critical of people, but I hear a lot of stories off the air. And Baker could not have been sweeter, more thoughtful. And I've said before, I was very critical of Baker, but I,

did think the Cleveland media brought out the sledgehammer at the end of the year, and I thought it was unfair. I said this multiple times. Baker was hurt. Come on, people. He was hurt. You could tell he couldn't get any velocity on the ball at the left sideline. The ball just died.

And Baker may not be the biggest guy or the fastest guy, but he's got an arm. He's got a whip. He couldn't throw the ball at the field. Whatever it was with his shoulder, he'd throw it left and the ball would die. It looked like Mitch Trubisky would just die. It's like, okay, something's wrong with the guy. So I do believe you bring Baker back. I don't know if he's the future.

I think he's getting threats from fans and the media's turned. I think like Andrew Wiggins, maybe time for a fresh start. I'm for that. I do think he's a franchise quarterback. But if I'm going to be critical of people, I've got to be fair. And he was very nice. And he went through a really weird situation. And so he handled it with complete class and dignity.

And he deserves that credit. That's a good story, Colin. All right. So, and by the way, it's a great restaurant. I may go to it tonight. It's Los Angeles. You kind of got to be on. alert all the time. Anything can happen. It's different. All right. So let me give you my,

I want to give you my NFL picks for the weekend. Ready to go? Let's do it. All right, let's start Kansas City hosting Bengals at Chiefs. Okay, so Kansas City's offense is always good. They had a little slump for about six games mid-season, but they are humming now. And by the way, Patrick Mahomes is eight and two in the playoffs. He's 0-2 against Brady. He's 8-0 against everybody else. The Chiefs offense in the playoffs has averaged 42 points this year and 144 yards rushing. So it's balanced and it's humming. They have the best third down offense in football so they can run it, they can throw it, they can move, they're situational.

And here's where I worry about Cincinnati. As good as Burrow is, they have one touchdown in their last 18 drives and he was sacked nine times. Spags is going to bring heat. That's what he does. I like Kansas City in this game. I initially thought it could be a blowout, but the Bengals tend to play good against good teams.

You know, they played very good against the Niners, very good against the Packers. I'm going to take the Chiefs to win 3327 around a touchdown. Rams 49ers at Rams. Right now the Rams defense, this Vaughn Miller acquisition has really started to pay dividends. Aaron Donald, as he's gotten older, may not be as dominating week to week in the regular season, he's been. But in the postseason, Aaron Donald has flipped a switch and he is again unblockable. They, the defense, is allowing 13% on third down.

Opponents are three for 24 on third down. And San Francisco's been struggling on third down offensively. So points are going to be hard to come by right now. The Rams defense is the best rushing defense so far in the playoffs. Tampa could not run on him. And if they get a lead, which they did the last time they played San Francisco, you're not going to be able to worry about, you're going to have to abandon the run game. So I do feel like San Francisco is going to be a fairly limited offense in this game. Last week, the Niners won, but it was a season low, 212 yards of offense. The Niners offense is averaging 18 points so far in the postseason, scoring two total offensive touchdowns. I just think points are going to be really hard

to come by for San Francisco. I'm going to take the Rams. It's going to be close, 28, 27. I think the Niners have some field goals. I think the Rams are more dynamic. But I do think what keeps the game close, San Francisco, Fred Warner, Bosa, Armstead really have given the Rams offense trouble.

So they're going to have to throw the football to score here. I'm going to take the Rams to win it, but it's close. If you're a betting person of the two games this weekend, this is the one I like more, San Francisco and the points. That's how it falls for me. So Mark Slareth is now joining us live. You know, let me start with this because we just had Peter King on. Nathaniel Hackett, I said yesterday, this is one of these that it feels right.

I really like the GM in Denver. They've got the left tackle, the running backs, wide receivers, fan the tight end. And Fangio built up a pretty darn good defense. I kind of feel like they are a quarterback and a coach away from being great. And I liked this higher. How is it playing in your town, Denver? I think it's playing all right.

I mean, I think people, you know, understand that you've got to have the quarterback regardless of who the coach is. So, you know, the bottom line for me, Colin, is that you look at Nathaniel Hackett and he brings some energy, he brings enthusiasm, he brings that kind of new school of coaching. You know, players just want to know that they're being developed. Players want to know that they're going to have a chance to get better. And I think that's what Nathaniel Hackett brings. You know, he brings an excitement and energy.

And, you know, I'll tell you, going around the National Football League and meeting with coaches and meeting with different organizations, like you walk into the Rams organization, for instance. And Sean McBade just lights up a room. And I think that's what happened here. I don't think he was necessarily the number one candidate right off the bat. But I think he lit up that room. He brought that energy. He brought that enthusiasm plus that football knowledge.

I mean, this guy's a football lifer. His father was a, you know, he was a football coach forever. And so I think that all that stuff came together and he became the frontrunner. He became the number one candidate through this process, through this interview process. So I think it's a really good hire. And, you know, I always say there's two types of people, the type of people that energize the room when they walk into it, and the type of people who energize a room when they walk out of it.

And last couple of years, they had one of those that energize the room when he walked out of it type of coaches. And they want to move into that new frontier of NFL coaches that are positive, that really bring that energy, that bring a different way of teaching. And I think Nathaniel Hackett is one of those guys. You know, it's interesting. John Elway, Peyton Manning, and potentially Aaron Rogers, all. I mean, Elway brings some gravitas.

Peyton Manning is super intense. I mean, he and Elway butted heads. Aaron can be a little high maintenance. So when I look at Aaron coming out there, it's a city that has a history. There's a lot of pro sports teams there. It's a big market media. It's always played bigger than it is. Denver may not be a top 10 city in terms of size.

But when you're there, the airport, the pro sports, the world. class skiing. It's a bigger city than it's rated in terms of population. It can handle big people. You know, you're not going to get mobbed at a restaurant. It's not Orlando and Shaq. I think Aaron Rogers would be happy there. That's my takeaway. The city's had Aaron. It's had Elway. It's had Peyton. I think it works there for him. I do too. And here's the other thing that's been like I find kind of fascinating and almost funny. And I keep hearing people on, you know, on national shows across America talking about, well, does he really want to go

and compete against Patrick Mahomes? Like, is that going to be the deciding fact? I'm like, hey, man, competitors compete. You think Aaron Rogers is afraid of Patrick Mahomes? You think he's afraid to compete? He's one of the, he's going to be a fourth, probably going to be the four-time MVP of the league. Like Brady was, he didn't pick the charges

because he had to compete against, Holmes. Are you kidding me? No, that has not, I don't think that has anything to do. Competitors love to compete regardless. I don't think it has anything to do with it. I think he's going to go where he feels the most comfortable, where he feels like he's got a chance to win

with somebody that he wants to play with with somebody that he wants to, you know, to have coach him. So I think it gives the Broncos a legitimate like a legitimate big leg up on the rest of the competition as far as landing Aaron Rogers if he does in fact choose to leave Green Bay. You know,

interesting. I was saying, I said earlier, I won't speak for women, but when you're a guy and you're going to go on a Vegas trip or a camping trip or a whitewater rafting trip or a hunting trip, you want guys that what I would call a good hang. They're just, you know, they're not about themselves. They're not needy.

And I said, Jimmy Garapolo is not high maintenance. He's a guy's guy. He's a foxhole guy. And you played in this league for a long time. And I said, you know, I know analytically he gets beat up and it's not artistic and he's not nearly as gifted as, you know, the other three quarterbacks. But there is value.

If you look at the Niners when he plays and everybody else that plays, there is something to be said about the guys like Garoppolo. I've seen him out-dual burrow late, out-dual Aaron late, out-dual Kyler Murray and Stafford late. Speak to that. There's a quality about him that he's a foxhole guy. guys like him and they trust him. Yeah, guys love playing with him in San Francisco. They absolutely love him. And he is. He's one of those guys. He's a foxhole guy.

And this guy, let me just tell you this. And Kyle Shanahan, straight from Kyle Shanahan, talk to me about, hey, listen, if you lined up 10, 15 quarterbacks in an arm strength test from the standpoint of how far can you throw it, he wouldn't be in the top 10. But when it comes to spinning the football and getting into a receiver, he could be late with it out on the sideline. he goes, there's nobody that spins it better than Jimmy Garoppolo. The spiral just is so tight. The ball gets there on time. He can make, you know, he can make those type of throws.

The issue that you get in with Jimmy Garablo, when you study it on film, he's going to throw it to the other team three times. It's just a matter if they catch it or not. Like he's going to make three mistakes where he's like, here you go. And if you catch it, the Niners will lose. If you, like in Green Bay, how many times do you see him? him throw that out and you're like oh no don't do it and you know the db isn't playing the ball he's playing the receiver and it had been a pick six i think it was two that i looked at that said that would have

been a pick six had the db been playing the ball as opposed to playing the receiver but you know if if you get away with it um he gives you a chance every weekend to win you know but like i said there's going to be three plays a game or three throws a game where you just kind of scratch your head and say what were you looking at why did you pull the trigger on that you know Burrow obviously went on the road, won big SEC games, and those are 100,000 seat stadiums are crazy. Everybody's licked up. The NFL doesn't have, you can make an argument that very few NFL stadiums, Arrowheads is probably one of them, can rival playing at Alabama. Those stadiums are the craziest in the country, loudest.

And he made a remark about it this week. I've been in SEC stadiums. But I will say this. winning on the road is special. Like San Francisco won on the road, you know, Cincinnati won on the road. Kind of take me to your career. There is a bonding experience on the road.

And I've watched some of the best games I've seen this year. Green Bay beating Arizona, missing 11 starters on the road, may have been the best I saw a team play this year. Your thoughts about Cincinnati's chances at Arrowhead and just kind of that reality of being the dog going into a loud place and trying to conquer. Yeah, I think one of the things that changes for you in Kansas City, and I've won a playoff game in Kansas City on the road. So it is incredibly loud.

The other thing is the way the stadium is built, the benches are about eight feet behind, or the fans are about eight feet behind the bench where you sit. And they're about maybe 10, 12 feet above your head. And so they're like leaning over almost in your, like you get a little huddle on the bench, you know, and you're talking about game planning stuff. And they're in your ear just dog cussing you. I mean, they are right on top of you in Arrowhead. So I think it even plays louder than a lot of stadiums that have space between the benches

and where the fans sit. It just, it's, again, it's the loudest stadium I've ever played in, an incredibly difficult whole place to go win a football game. And I think it will rival any stadium as far as crowd noise is concerned, whether it's the SEC or whether it's in Seattle or wherever the case may be. So I think it is one of those things that's going to be tough. And ultimately, you know, you talk about giving up nine sacks. I just did a reunion with the 91 Washington team that, you know, was a world champion,

Super Bowl 26 reunion. Joe Gibbs spoke and Charlie Cashley. who probably had 20 guys that were a part of that Zoom reunion. And Joe Gibbs brought up that in 19 games, they gave up nine sacks in a game. I just, I still can't believe that you won that game. Yeah. Like Joe Burrow, I tip my cap to Joe Burrow and obviously Ryan Tannaill threw three picks. But the bottom line is that was as gutsy of performances I've ever seen.

you are not going into Kansas City with that crowd noise and with that lack of protection and that spread offense and win a game against the Chiefs. If you don't shore that up, I personally feel like you're going to suffer a double-digit loss in Kansas City. And it's been a good run. And like I said, Joe Burrow in this offense has been incredible. And the defense played exceptionally well against Tennessee. But this is a different animal going into Kansas City. Mark Slareth, have a great weekend. Three rings, two-time Pro Bowler.

Nice talking to you, buddy. Fox Sports. A lot. Likewise, buddy. Take care. Yeah. I initially thought Kansas City would blow them out. And then I just went game to game, half to half with Cincinnati. And they tend to play really well against good teams. But it's a different animal. And that Kansas City, so much of this stuff, I feel like Kansas City has this certain inertia. And again, they're one play from losing.

So I think, I mean, if you ask me who the best teams in football are, I believe the best teams in football, not all left. I think Buffalo, Kansas City, and the Rams are the best three teams in football. And Buffalo's gone. So it's not always sometime, I say this all the time, you know, Alabama, Georgia were the two best teams in football, and they, you know, they played twice and they split them. And Alabama lost the second one because Alabama's two best receivers, thousand yard receivers got hurt, and that's the reality of it. It's attrition. I think the three best teams in the world right now are, and it may both be in the AFC. Deep down, I think it may both be AFC teams. I think it's Kansas City

one, Buffalo, two, Rams three. We'll see. But it's, that's why I feel so bad for Buffalo, because I really do. There was a Peyton Manning Colts team a couple of time that lost to Brady and you kind of felt like that's the best team outside of Brady and football. And sometimes it happens. One more herd? I just, I, I, the internet yesterday was just cats and dogs, you know, fur flying everywhere, yelling and screaming and barking.

It's just like, folks, it's just sports. Let's have some fun and argue. No reason to put people down. It's fun. It's sports. It's a good time. You're so reasonable, Colin. Everybody just gets all worked up.

I like Jimmy G. But I know it's limited. You know, this is the way. And with quarterbacks, we want to put them in two boxes. And there's three. There's the, they're great. There's about six of those. And they're not very good.

and there's about 10 of those. And then there's another box. And Dax's in that box. And Kirk Cousins is in that box. And Jimmy G's in that box. And there's a lot of guys in that box. It's not a great, awful league. And there's a lot of people that haven't been good, but could be Jalen Hertz.

You know, then there's, and we argue all the time about that. But we want to put everybody in these boxes. He's great. He's not. Aaron Rogers is a great talent, but there's sometimes, I think he can wear people out. Jimmy G's not a great talent. but I think he's a foxhole guy and everybody loves playing with him.

And so, you know, it's okay to have differences of opinion. Well, I mean, generally, if you don't have a good argument to counter the other person, you generally just say some nonsense to distract from it and basically say you disagree.

Yes, call them names. There's no reason to do that. There's no reason. Well, I mean, there's a perfectly good reason to do it when you don't have a good argument to counter them. You just feel like you disagree. Feelings cause people to act in...

And I don't have it. any of those. So it's just no big deal. You're a Capricorn. That's right. We've been gifted with this experience. Hey, by the way, I got to get, time out. Time out here. Hold on. Can somebody get my phone over there? Folks, I didn't put up two fight-ons. I put up one. Oh. But I'm Jackson Dart.

I need to turn my alerts on for your Twitter call on. So Jackson Dart, USC quarterback is officially, I've been told he's old miss with Lane Kiffin. That's going to get done. That means USC has a quarterback potentially. I'm hearing things. Hearing things. One fight on. But when I give one fight on, that could very well mean peace on earth. It doesn't mean necessarily anything more than that.

If I give two fight ons, that is... It's the whale. Caleb Williams is a Trojan. I'm just hearing things. Okay, so does that make you feel like two phytones is coming? I don't want to get people worked up. The bedrock of this show, it's very Kronkidian. It's very journalism.

Let me see. Kronkidian. All right. So there's one right now, but I am hearing this. things and today is the last day to enroll at spring semester USC. So my guess is... Well, so if he is gone...

Well, my guess is Caleb Williams. I'm throwing this out there with no knowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if Caleb Williams announces it and not USC or a coach. It's 2022 M.I.L. He needs the, you know, he's got to direct the traffic to his page.

His Instagram. Yeah. So my guess is Caleb Williams and his father, they will announce it. because that's the way the world works now. So USC doesn't have a quarterback at the moment, correct? Not one they are going to win a ton of games with. So no. So if he doesn't show up, I may go out for practice and see if I can sling it.

He still got it. Joe here with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, let's talk about some guys that can sling it. The young quarterback talent in the NFL has been unbelievable this season. and the athletics surveyed seven coaches, executives and analysts around the league to see who would they pick between Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Justin Herbert if they could only choose one.

What? It was very fun. This is a fun little exercise. So they ranked the quarterbacks one through three and Burrow came out on top with four of seven first place votes. Josh Allen was close behind with the other three. It's an interesting exercise. I would obviously choose Joe Burrow, but I am number one Joe Burrow fan. Okay, so, oh boy, I don't even like that.

That's not even a list I want to be part of. I don't want to have to choose. You got to do it. No, I like all of them. They're all different. That's weak. You got to pick. That's not how this game works.

I can't do that. Then I don't want to be part of the game. You're making me choose between Justin Herbert, Joe Borough, and Josh Allen. Well, it's not like, you know, if the other two are, you know, outcasts now. It's just a ranking. I can't do it. By the way, there's sometimes people ask you for a political opinion and you're on an airplane. You don't want it to be next to a crazy person.

You just say, oh, I'm a... You talk to people in it. You do talk to people on airplanes. Well, I've had people ask me about stuff, and I'll just play dumb. Oh, I... You know, the mask thing, I'm so over the masks. Yeah, listen, we both are on that. But there are some silver linings.

For example, if you look terrible and you need to run errands, not a problem. Nobody sees your face. Yeah. And two, nobody wants to talk on the airplane, which for me... I mean, listen, I love you guys. I want to talk in the airplane. I cannot, because I cannot choose between Burrow, Herbert, and Allen. I can't do it.

I would go Joe Burrow. See? I think I would go Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Justin Herber. Because I am also a... Put that in the archive when he's ruined the Super Bowls. What have you accomplished person as well? That's fair. Totally fair.

So I think Justin Herbert didn't go into a complete rebuild. Joe Burrow was in a worse situation than him. How good is the AFC? We didn't even mention Mahomes, Lamar, Derek Carr. was just these three. I don't think he put, I don't know. I would just say,

by the way, there's a reason he only got seven votes because the other 30 GMs are like, I don't want to be part of the survey. They did what I did. Like, no thank you. Opting out of this game. So the Raiders have requested to interview Patriots offensive coordinator,

Josh McDaniels for their head coaching position. And the interest is reportedly mutual. If McDaniels does get the job, Patriots director of player personnel, Dazee Gleer, is likely the front runner to join him in Vegas as the team. team's new GM. Josh McDaniels has been with the Patriots for the majority of his coaching career.

He got there in 2001. He was the Broncos head coach in 2009 and then went to the Rams in 2011 and then back to the Patriots and then he infamously accepted the head coaching job with the Colts before returning to New England. I mean, we all assumed that Josh McDaniels was going to get another head coaching job. So this isn't terribly surprising. His name has been out there in this hiring cycle. Yeah.

to me I always felt like Josh McDaniels was sort of the air to the Patriots throne. Yes. But if Bill Belichick has intentions on coaching for another 10 years, then maybe this is time for Josh McDaniels to move on if he wants another head coaching job. It does feel like though, if he does go, and maybe his intention is, you know, maybe he doesn't want to be the heir apparent to the Patriots, maybe he doesn't care about that. I wouldn't want to be the heir apparent. I wouldn't want to either.

but if I was in the building already and Belichick retired, then I would want it. But I go back to this. And everybody thought I was crazy when I said this. I've seen Josh Allen and I've seen Mahomes and I've seen Burrough and I've seen Herbert. I don't want nothing against Mac Jones. I like getting Derek Carr. I'm serious on that. If you're McDaniels?

Aaron Rogers comes into the AFC and Derek Carr. I'm just saying nothing against. against Mac Jones. I've seen the ceiling in college and the pros. I don't think the New England job for the next 10 years, I don't think it's close to the best job in the AFC. Oh, I think if Josh McDaniels moves on, that's really bad news for the Patriots. I don't know how good about a head coach he is. They would hire Bill O'Brien. They would go back and get Bill O'Brien, who's, by the way, way, way better than average. But I'm just saying, when I suggested

if you could move tomorrow, if I ran the Patriots tomorrow and you said you can move Mac Jones and trade him for Derek Carr, I do it in one second. Absolutely one second. That's what you think. But when I suggested,

they built up Mac Jones enough that could you move Mac if you could upgrade to a veteran quarterback. There's people that think that Mac Jones is better than Derek Carr? Oh, I think all of Boston and lots of people in the media. I mean, there's not disrespect to Mac Jones.

He had a nice year. I just think Derek Carr is a different athlete. Well, also, what is the situation? Like, if I'm, the Patriots are sort of in a win now situation, aren't they? I mean, you're just telling me, is the Raider job with Derek Carr better than the Patriot job with Mack Jones tomorrow? That I don't know, because the Patriots are, I mean, the Raiders are habitually dysfunctional. I know, but I like getting Derek Carr.

That's what I'm saying. a job is as good as the quarterback or else you get fired. No, that's absolutely, but the job is also as good as the owner. I mean, the Bengals are in the AFC championship, so you can overcome some of that nonsense. But Joe Burroughs better than Derrick Carr. Yes. But I think they're both really competent, really good players. No, listen, I love Derrick Carr. We're kind of, you know, we're arguing the same thing.

But I don't know. I just don't, I don't look at the Raiders job as a great job outside of Derrick. Like Derek Carr is great. Totally fair. He did an amazing job this year, and they have lots of fun pieces, but they fire coach every, like, what, three, four years? I don't look at the Patriot job as a great one if Bill leaves. I really don't. The Belichick leaves?

I get Robert. Well, you never want to be the guy that replaces the guy. Well, yeah, I get Robert Kraft. Where's all my skill people? It's a skill person league. Where are my skill people? Well, many of the Niners have stood up for Jimmy Garoppolo. Jimmy Garoppel had himself a day yesterday.

And they credited him with helping the team get to the NFC championship game. And Kyle Shanahan agrees that Jimmy has been an important factor this season and is happy his teammates have us back. Yeah, they probably feel a need to stick up for them. You know, so social media probably hasn't been that great. So I'm glad they're sticking up for them because what they say is the truth. I mean, Jimmy is one of the main reasons we're here. He's done an unbelievable job. People don't give him enough credit.

Yeah, we win as a team. And that's why he doesn't always have the same stats as some of these MVP candidates have and stuff. But Jimmy's a very good quarterback. and he doesn't worry about any of that stuff. Here's the thing about Jimmy G. And, you know, if you were on the internet yesterday, then you saw the, you know, the arguments about Jimmy G. Niners fans don't really like Jimmy G.

Every Niners fan I talk to, I'm like, oh, so you guys back in on Jimmy G and they're like, no, no, no, no, calm down. Hold on. Like, he's done a nice job, but Trey Lance is the future. Like, and I just think, I think it's funny. I don't know, obviously I'm not going to generalize all 49ers fans. But I know a lot of 49ers fans and every single one of them that I have talked to has the exact same response.

So don't want to generalize, but this is my experience. And in my experience, Niners fans aren't even all the way in on Jimmy G. So I like Jimmy G. I think he is way better than he gets credit for. At the end of the day, we give quarterbacks all the praise and all the criticism. So if that's the case, and we all know Jimmy G has limitations, we all know he has health problems saying healthy and he makes bad decisions. But they're in the NFC championship game.

he's got to get a little bit of credit for that. Yes, he's made mistakes, but they've overcome them. He has also put them in situations to win games. So he needs credit for that too. And on top of all of that, and this is sort of where I fall with DAC, when people criticize DAC, there are intangible things outside of the analytics that quarterbacks can bring to the table that can translate to winning. And to me, that's what Jimmy does.

And I think that's what Kyle Shannon is talking about as well, where he's clearly a great locker room guy. The locker room and the team love him and play for him. And there's something to that. You can't measure that in statistics. And I know I'm getting very philosophical here, but I think Jimmy deserves a lot of credit for what he's done this year. And the best

part of this Jimmy G conversation is we're going to get the opportunity to see him with another team next year and see how he does and see how Tray Lance does with this roster. Yep. And I've said before, I think this is the strongest indication he could leave. I don't think it's a great time to leave because the NFC is kind of a mess at quarterback. There's like 10 of the 16 teams in the NFC are unsettled or bad at quarterback or limited, like Kurt Cousins Matt Ryan. So I think it's the time to stay if you're him.

But he's talking family. Talk to Jim Gray. Here's what he said. I would say I'm proud and satisfied of everything we have. accomplished this year. So I know when I give it my all, that's something to be proud of. And I've literally given everything I had this year, last year, the year before that, the year before that. Like, I don't leave anything half-ass. You know, I think I leave it with everything that I have. First of all, Bruce Ariens and Brady, we've seen it publicly. It can be a little

chippy, a little rocky, little one-sided. I think those two need a buffer. The buffers Byron Leftwich. He's now going to leave. Second thing is it would be kind of a perfect time for Brady to leave because he's in the MVP conversation. So it would be very good for his legacy and also good for the TB12 brand, wellness. He left on top. He wasn't a dog. He wasn't beat up. He wasn't limping.

You know, he's got a Superman quality. It's good for his wellness brand. He left at the top. He was very good. The other thing is Tampa would plummet if he leaves because they don't have a quarterback, even in that lousy division. And that would be good for his legacy in his brand. It would make him look like he was the reason in Tampa they won, not the coach. We already know he was a big part of the reason they won in New England, not the coach.

So it would be good for Brady's legacy if the Patriots and the Bucks don't have a great quarterback the minute he leaves. It makes Tom's legacy even greater and more profound. I will go back to something, and this is something I think we all can relate to. I tend to be intense. I tend to be somebody that likes structure. I really like structure. I wake up in the morning. I like to do things and have things.

done. Just my personality. My wife's more the artist. She makes it up as she goes. It works. The ying and the yang work on vacation. But day to day, I like lists. I like things to do. Tom is a structure nut. Belichick is a structure guy. Ariens is not. Not as much. And I do think there was a lot of subtle messages by Brady post- Thanksgiving focus. We're not focused. People have to be accountable for their job. you throw in Crazy Town A, B, doing his stuff. And I just think it got loose. And I think that frustrates Tom. And Tom's thinking to himself, well, what's going to change?

I lost my buffer. Gronk could leave. Bruce is not at his age going to run a tighter ship. And I do think there's part of Brady. And Peter King said this earlier, and I agree with him. In New England, Tom Brady always had, always knew there was an adult in the room. you know, in Belichick. And in Tampa, it's just a looser ship.

And so part of that is great for Brady, you know, that you don't really feel the pressure and the sort of, and the real tight reins around you. But on the other hand, sometimes I think he misses that. I think he misses, you know, the fact that there is one guy who is absolutely in control, of everything. And I would say this, is that

how many of you are watching, man or a woman, that you are somebody that likes structure and your brother or sister doesn't, and they drive you nuts? And you like them in small doses. But your brother or your sister are not, my sister tends to be very much habit as

well, so we get along. But there's a lot of families where, you know, the sister is really in the structure and the brother isn't, and she just, in small doses can handle it. He drives her nuts. And so I think in small doses, Brady and Ariens, when they have a buffer, I think it works.

But I can see Tom being over it really fast. And when he kept saying post Thanksgiving, everybody's got to be responsible and focused and locked in, he was telling you that people weren't on this team. And so he's asking, essentially, he's telling the coach, lock this thing down. It's not tight enough. and I think Tom's a real creature of habit. And I think he feeds off it. And I think, you know, it's like anything else.

It's, you know, when people get divorced after 20 years of marriage, there's a reason you were married for 20 years. There was something about the – I never understand when people get divorced after 25 years and they badmouthed the other person. We were together 25 years. Something had to work. And a lot of times people go the other way. The pendulum swings.

And you know, I don't want any of that. I'm going to go over here. and I met this woman. She was very structured. I want to go get party girl. And after about three years of the party girl, showing up late at home, not as good a parent,

you're like, and I miss that. So you were in something for a long time for a reason. And, you know, I used to work in local news, and I used to say this, this was always the way local news worked. You'd get a kind of a rough, loud,

domineering news director. You know, and he was just a fire brand. And then after about, and he worked. The ratings were good. And they would wear people. out. And I saw this like three or four times. And then the next guy you hire is the opposite of that guy. He's a cupcake and a marshmallow and everybody likes him. I'm like, no, you hired that guy and we were

number one because it worked. He just wore people out. So don't go the opposite of him. Go to somebody that's a little more gentle, but has his same qualities or her same qualities. So a lot of, I think there's a part of Brady and it worked obviously that won a Super Bowl. He kind of went and found the opposite of New England. Well, I think a lot of what worked for Tom in New England is that structure and that intensity and those crappy winners where you might as well stay and look at film because it's crappy outside. And Tampa is almost in this league the opposite of New England. I mean, there's 51 universities. I've lived in Connecticut. I've been to Boston plenty of times. It's very academic and very intense and very competitive. The talk radio is angry. It's very judgmental.

It's also very principled on its academics and its family and its values. And it's a really interesting place. But it's, I would say New England is intense. The old saying is fences make good neighbors. People are covert. They're private. They're intense. They've got families.

There's 51 boarding schools, you know, 51 universities in the Boston metro area. I lived in Tampa. It's the opposite. It's beach volleyball. It's a crazy town. You can always tell about a. city by what they lead the news with. Tampa was the strangest place I've ever lived in my life. It's older. It's laid back. Some people moved there to chill out. It's sailing. It is in Tom's

intensity. How does it play short-term intense people love a vacation? But if you're an intense person, let me ask you, when you go on a vacation, that last day, all you can think about is, I got to catch up. I got to get up on emails. I got to. to get my things back. And it takes you about two days to get into vacation mode. I got this stuff. I got to make sure I get it right. And your seven days, about four and a half of them are vacation.

But going in and coming out, it's on your mind because that's who you are. That's your genetic makeup. And so I think short term, Tampa Tom can work. But I do sense that he misses the structure of New England. I think he's great. I think Belichick and him have so many similarities from a professional career. They may not be guys going to dinner, but there's a lot of similarities with those two guys. And I've always said, Aaron Rogers has never felt like Green Bay to me.

Aaron Rogers feels like the quarterback for the L.A. Rams. Little loose, little cocky, good-looking. Football's important, but, you know, he likes to golf on the weekends. There are certain people they can make it work. It doesn't necessarily feel perfect. I think Tom and New England really felt perfect. for a long time. Hour three next.
