Here we go.
Howard 2.
Albert Breer is going to join us.
There were a couple of teams looking to move up.
We're going to ask Albert about that.
And the top of the second round, there are some big-time players.
Will Johnson, cornerback Michigan, some injury stuff, fell out.
Somebody's getting a real good corner.
Somebody's getting a real good corner.
Trayvion Henderson, running back.
Ohio State.
That's a really good player.
I'll make this argument.
Shadoor Sanders.
That's a pretty good second round quarterback.
Now, historically, people take quarterbacks in the first round
because they view them as starters, or they take him in the third round, they view them as backdown.
Teams don't draft a lot of quarterbacks.
Drew Greys, Andy Dalton were.
Derek Carr was.
But most of your quarterbacks, your great ones, they most come in the first.
If a team drafts you first, they view you as a starter, even late first.
There's a small number of quarterbacks in the last 15 years drafted in the second round that becomes starters.
Everybody passed on Chador.
I think it's a mistake, but I'm not a professional scout.
Well, professional scouts get it wrong a lot, too.
But Colin, you know who can't take Chador in the second round?
Cannot?
Pittsburgh Steelers.
They don't have a second round pick.
And we talked about this during the break.
I was just talking with Zach about it.
If Aaron Rogers gives Pittsburgh, I think I'm just going to retire.
They're screwed.
Mason, Rudolph, and Skyler Thompson are your quarterbacks at Pittsburgh right now.
So that's interesting.
So what do you do as a team?
I can't beat up on Pittsburgh because of this.
They have a very good scouting department.
And the last time they didn't trust their instincts and reached, it was Kenny Pickett.
And he was a top of the third round prospect.
Shador Sanders is not a first round prospect to NFL general managers.
So do you just take him?
Now, they don't have a pick until late 3rd.
So, you know, Aaron Rogers has now owned four teams, only quarterback ever.
The Packers, the Jets, the Steelers, and the Bears.
I mean, so it's a very word situation.
But their scouting department historically, they went defensive linemen, which is so Pittsburgh, it hurts.
But if you're scouting department and theirs is excellent, they have an excellent roster.
I don't necessarily love their defense-first culture.
They spend too much money on defense, not enough on offense.
but if their scouting department doesn't like him and nobody else has did
nobody else drafted chadour and i don't think anybody but the giants would have moved up for
jackson dart so well you know who's your quarterback going to be well it's a very very
interesting next year draft and mason rudolph you're probably a six-win team that's probably what you
are here's mike tomlin on on going with a defensive lineman there's no substitute for young talent
You don't have a chance to fill the quality defense unless you stout inside and up front.
This is a young guy that has an opportunity to learn from the likes of Cam Hayward
and put his hand in that pile and be a significant contributor for us for years to come.
Again, hard for me to criticize an organization that drafts well, the Steelers draft well, the Packers draft well.
So Harmon's a defensive lineman from Oregon.
Oregon puts a lot of dudes in the NFL.
Mike Tomlin knows defense.
If you don't love the quarterbacks, they did reach before.
And it cost him.
It was a wasted draft pick.
They wasted a year and a half of their life pretending Kenny Pickle was the guy.
So I can respect somebody just saying, listen, we need a quarterback.
But what we don't want to do, if you do draft a quarterback there, and he's not the guy,
then you have to fake it for two years.
So what if Pittsburgh just saying, we'll go get Jalen Millroll late third round if he's available?
We'll try that.
But at third round, you can give him one year.
And if it doesn't work, you're on.
The problem drafting a quarterback in the first round, you've got to kind of fake it.
Oh, we're all in on this guy, even if half of you know in the building by Thanksgiving of his rookie year, he can't play.
I mean, then all of a sudden you get into a Daniel Jones situation where you're like, yeah, he can, no, he can't.
And then you start validating your draft pick and you sign him to an extension.
So if you don't like him, don't draft him.
I'd rather Pittsburgh stink next year and get a better draft pick.
I mean, Pittsburgh doesn't draft in the top 10 very often.
They're going to need to next year.
So that's sort of how I view it.
Okay, Albert Breer is joining us.
Monday morning quarterback.
All right.
I was told by people I trust that a couple of offensive coaches did like Colston Loveland a lot,
but the Bears took them at 10.
Was there anything else that you had heard about teams trying to move up,
But they just, the price tag was too much.
I don't think there are very many teams trying to move up at all.
Like, I honestly think you had so many teams that were looking to go down
that I think the teams that were looking to go up were kind of sharks about it, you know,
and figuring this is a buyer's market.
There are way more sellers, and we can go find ourselves a deal.
And so, you know, I know for New England at four, for Cleveland at five,
the phone didn't even ring because of the stuff that had happened during the week,
where during the week it was just the logistics of the class got in the way of trades happening.
And look, I think a huge part of that, too, Colin.
I mean, teams just didn't see there being a big difference between four and 15 or five and 20.
And I think that even was reflected later in the round,
like the reason the Falcons trade up into the bottom of the first round to 26 to get James Pierce is,
that's the guy they would have taken at 15 if Jalen Walker hadn't slipped to 15.
So there was a lot of volatility to the class, a lot of unpredictability to the class.
And I don't know that there was a ton of reason for people to move up and go and get a singular player.
Again, amongst a group where there just weren't a lot of blue chippers.
Those first round returns for some of those picks, those just weren't there.
So if you go look at what the Giants did, which is they moved up in a group of teams that don't need quarterbacks,
and they had the number two pick today.
So they must have felt somebody else was going to move up for Jackson Dart, but Chatur was still on the board.
So the truth is if a team wanted a quarterback, they may have gone Chadour.
So my takeaway is, you're not a good team, you're in a division with surging Washington and loaded Philadelphia.
I would not be giving up lots and lots of second and third round draft picks.
It's not an attack on Jackson Dart, but in that late first round, those were teams with quarterbacks,
and you had top of the second round, and both Shadour and Jackson Dark were probably going to be there.
I didn't love that move.
Yeah, so I guess the Giants' concern would be two-fold.
Number one, they were behind the Browns who needed a quarterback.
And then you start to ask around, and there were a lot of teams there.
at the bottom of the first round that we're looking to get out.
I think my count at the end was like eight of the teams from 20 to 32
were actively trying to move the picks
and actively trying to take advantage of the fact
that there might be a couple of teams at the top of the second round
that were looking to move up for quarterbacks.
And so I think as much as anything else, you look at it,
if you're the Giants, you say, okay, it's hard for us to justify
if our jobs are on the line,
if you're Joe Shane and Brian Dayball,
taking someone with a third overall pick
who is not going to help me today, right?
And if you draft a quarterback
and he goes into a room with Russell Wilson
and James Winston, he might not help you today.
Abdul Carter will help them in 2025.
So we're not going to spend the third overall picking a quarterback.
We don't value them there.
We know the league doesn't value them there outside of Cam Ward.
And then you look at it and say, okay, if we go back into the first round,
now we're assured of getting our guy,
we get the fifth year option on them, which is valuable.
Is there a spot there where a team is going to be willing enough to give us a decent price to go down,
where we don't have to give up next year's first round pick to go into the bottom of the first round?
And so there were, again, a lot of teams trying to sell off picks,
trying to take advantage of those teams at the top of the second round that didn't have quarterbacks
that could look to come into the bottom of the first and get one.
And, I mean, if you want to just look at it on balance, the team they jumped in front of was the Rams.
and I think the idea there, there were some whispers,
the Rams liked Jackson Dart.
I don't think there's a world where they would have taken Jackson Dart,
but maybe for the Giants, just a certainty of knowing you got your guy,
it was worth going up that high to get him again
with all the other conditions that I laid out in mind.
By the way, the Ohio State Emeka Buka went up higher,
great character, Tyler Booker, Alabama, team captain, great character.
I kind of thought that the NFL, this NFL,
NFL, this NIL thing with a Tennessee quarterback going to UCLA taking a picket.
Nobody wanted him.
And should do, or it's not the end of the world, but, you know, the New York giant cleats,
legendary in his draft room, you know, a little humility could have done him well.
I don't know.
It's not the end of the world.
But I felt like, I felt like with that Tennessee quarterback that went to UCLA, college football
sent a message.
And by Booker moving up and a mecca moving up, A plus character got.
it was a little bit of messaging that, you know what, it's not a great draft.
Character may be the difference here.
That was my interpreter.
I'll give you two more players at non-premian positions that it applied to,
Gray Zabel, going to the Seahawks and Donovan Jackson going to the Vikings.
Both those guys are guards.
Maybe those guys wouldn't be first-round picks in a normal year, but this year they are.
And I do think that that, I think that did exist this year.
where this was almost like the screw it draft is the way that I put it.
You can call it the F it draft if you want.
Yeah.
But this was a screw it draft where it was like, yeah, you know, like in a normal year,
I'd want this guy five or ten picks later.
And maybe, you know, I'd love to trade back and get a little more capital.
But that, you know, trades, that trade partner doesn't exist.
So screw it, I'm just going to take the guy I like.
Screw it, I'm just going to take the guy that I feel good about.
And I do think, like, the character came in for some of these guys, some of these teams where there's just like, if I can get a good player that I'm sure on in this year's draft, then that's a home run.
That's right.
That's fine.
And it's really interesting, Colin.
I had a coach bring this up to me.
And he said that it's even gotten harder with NIL to suss out character and practice happens in a certain way where in some cases, these NIL deals have conditions baked into them that you wouldn't believe.
like, I only have to practice two days a week.
You only play me on third down.
So it's gotten harder and harder in some cases where you look at somebody like, yeah, he's a good kid,
but what about his practice habits?
Oh, is that part of his NIL deal?
You've got all these things kind of at work with a lot of these kids where when you see a kid
who checks every box from a character standpoint, like a Booker, like an Abuca, like a Zabel,
like a Jackson, all of a sudden in your mind, you're like, you know what?
I don't have to deal with the rest of this with this kid.
Just give me him.
So I think that certainly exists.
Okay.
It's interesting.
Ben Johnson goes to Chicago.
So the first thing he does is Joe Tuny,
Dolman the center,
Jonah Jackson,
quarterbacks can handle edge rushing.
They don't like people at their feet and their knees.
I'm cleaning up the middle of our own line.
I thought they'd go defense because of Roma Dunzee
and get another pass rusher.
And there were a few in this draft.
They went back to offense.
kind of is it is it signaling hey if caleb's not the guy we're going to figure it out real
soon because this is a fairly stacked roster well i would tell you like if it hadn't if things
had played out a different way that could have been ashton jentzy at 10 and it could have been a
tackle like if kelvin banks doesn't go one pick ahead of them to to to the saints i think
Calvin Banks might be a bear right now.
They send a huge contingent out to Austin to take a look at him.
So getting a left tackle in place, like I think was part of the equation for them as well.
So I think overall you're right to say this is about getting a clear look at Caleb Williams.
Like you're taking every excuse out of it now.
Like you're saying, okay, we've got your Roma Dunseye, we've got your DJ Moore,
we've got you competent running backs in Rocheon Johnson and DeAndre Swift.
We've got an offensive line where we're going to.
We've invested in the middle of it.
And now we've got a tight end who could be a lethal matchup guy in Colston Loveland.
So at the very least, after the next couple of years, you're going to have a clear answer on what Caleb Williams is.
And you're going to pay them accordingly.
You're going to build around them accordingly.
This is a chance to get a very clear vision of who Caleb Williams can be.
And it does reflect also the way that they built in Detroit.
I mean, look, like I think tackle was way up on their priority list.
with a 10th overall pick.
Obviously, it didn't work out with the three guys going between four and nine at that position.
But that's the way they built in Detroit, right?
With Penae Sewell as their first draft picked there when those guys got there to play opposite Taylor Decker.
And, you know, this is another element that they had in Detroit.
They had a super reliable tight end in Sam Laporta, who was a weapon in the passing game.
And clearly that's what Colston Loveland can be.
And I'll tell you this, there were teams.
This isn't the only one.
There were a number of teams that liked Loveland overworn because of his route running ability
and because he's three years younger.
Yep.
Yep.
I heard the same thing.
Okay.
So now Cleveland's got the first pick.
Cleveland could use a young quarterback.
Shadour Sanders is sitting there or there's got to be another team that needs a quarterback.
They could trade down and get more picks.
What do you think Cleveland does?
Yeah, Cleveland's in a good spot because if you want a quarterback, you got to come to them now.
Yeah.
Right. And so, you know, there's the, there's the opportunity to sit there on Friday. And this has become a thing since they changed the format of the draft where this really is a power position to be in, where you've got an opportunity to spend the whole day. And you know what happens, Colin, is everybody goes back into the draft room, resets the board and they're like, wow, like, that guy's still there. And that guy's still there. And it sort of gives you, like, everyone a fresh set of eyes on the class. And they may decide they really want somebody. Some team may decide there's someone at the top of the round.
maybe it's a quarterback, maybe it's another position that they have to have,
so it can enhance the value of the 33rd pick.
One name that I, like one connection that I think is really interesting here,
the Louisville quarterback Tyler Shuck.
Like I had heard Kevin Stefansky took a liking to him now.
There are questions.
Like, what do the doctors say about him in Cleveland?
You know, he's got the clavicle injury, and that was an issue for him.
He is older.
He spent seven years in college.
The guy was a backup to Justin Herbert.
at Oregon for two years. That's how old he is. That's how long he's been around. He was in Trevor Lawrence
and Justin Fields recruiting class. But I have heard that Kevin Stefansky likes Tyler Shuck. So if it's a
quarterback, maybe it's Shador. I think there's a chance it could be Tyler Shuck to the Browns at one of
those two picks also. And it just will be interesting to see where Shador goes. Like I think
I think Shuck, Shador, and Milro all go at some point tonight. I'm just not sure what order.
it's in.
Boy, look at Cleveland and the Chicago Bears.
Just sitting there with a Trayvian Henderson's going to make somebody happy.
Will Johnson's going to make somebody happy.
Okay, let's talk about this.
J. Mack doesn't agree with me.
But my take is when you draft a quarterback in the first round, like a Kenny Pickett,
you know you're reaching because the Steelers draft department's been good for years.
You know it's a bit of a reach.
But you've got to pretend, even if by his sixth start, you're like,
you've got to pretend for a couple years.
He's the guy.
If you draft the quarterback late third, by the first Thanksgiving, you can, hey, it misses.
So my take is the Steelers that draft well are like, we're going to take the guy that's going to start.
We don't love the quarterback, and we don't want to be forced to take a guy that we have to pretend can compete against Joe Burrell and Lamar Jackson and maybe a Shindor Sanders.
So I'm going to defend the Steelers on if you don't like a guy, even if there's a need,
Don't draft a quarterback and then pretend he's the guy and everybody in the building's going eye-rolling for two years.
And I think that's a great point.
And it's one of the reasons why the context of taking a quarterback tonight is much different than the context of taking a quarterback last night.
There's one example, which is Arizona in 2018 and 2019, and they had to go through a coach firing to get there and all kinds of different circumstances.
but almost always.
Like if you take a quarterback in the first round,
that takes you off the quarterback market
for the next two to three years.
In other words, it's really hard if you're a coach or a GM
to go back to your owner and say,
you know what, yeah, we spent that first rounder last year
on this guy and we told you for three months
how much we loved him and why we're taking him.
But screw up, we're going to take another one again.
Like, it just doesn't happen.
So not only do you risk making a mistake
if there's a guy that you view as good, not great in the first round.
There's also the opportunity cost that can come the next two years
if you've taken yourself out of the running for quarterbacks
that could be available then.
If you take one in the second or third round,
well, that's just a swing, right?
And it's very easy then to come back the next year in the first round
or on the veteran market and go and get one.
If you look back in history, in 2010, the Panthers took Jimmy Clause,
in the middle of the second round.
They took Cam Newton first overall.
the next year. In 2017, the Browns took Deshawn Kaiser in the second round. They turned around,
took Baker Mayfield, the first overall pick the year after that. So I'd say like that's the beauty
of taking one now, is that you're not married to the guy. You're sort of dating him, where it's like,
okay, like, let's see how this works out. And maybe we hit a home run. But if we don't, we're not tied
to him. And we'll have the opportunity to go back and look at it again after a year,
two years, whatever the timeline
might be. Whereas if you take a quarterback in the
first round, it's really tough to come back
the next year, even the year after that. Look at
the position again. Good stuff. Albert
Beer, Monday morning quarterback. Can't wait.
Really, really interesting stuff
going to happen at the top of tonight's
picks. Thanks, man.
Awesome. Thanks, Colin.
Yeah, you've got to play a game.
First round quarterback. Oh, yeah,
yeah, they've played the game with Kenny Pick and everybody in the
building new by camp. It's like
saying great. He came in
a little older. He had a lot of starts.
And you're like, yeah.
I mean, I just, there's nothing worse than having to fake it.
Like, have you ever had a situation in life where you've got to pretend something is true and it's not true?
It's just an inauthentic way to live.
And if you don't like a guy, then don't draft a guy.
Well, we need a quarterback.
Go overpay for Kirk Cousins for a year.
But, I mean, to have to literally, I would rather tough it out in life for a year than fake it for two.
Right.
But that's you toughing it out.
losing your job, you're not getting replaced, you're not getting fired, right?
People in Pittsburgh could get fired, you know?
Heck, heck, people in Jacksonville could get, we don't know what's going to happen.
But I want to go back to a pick that I haven't heard anybody talk about.
Were you surprised that Loveland went ahead of Tyler Warren as the first tight end taken
because everybody loved Warren.
And I had someone on my podcast who pointed this out there, were like, Jay, did you look
at Tyler Warren's numbers the first three years at Penn State?
He did like nothing.
Yeah.
He was 23 years old and popped.
oh, by the way, when teams asked him to do the three cone shuffle and the broad jump and all,
he didn't do any testing.
So I don't know if he's hiding something.
I don't know what's going on, but Loveland leaped past him.
Loveland is a more unique prospect.
He's not going to block, but he'll go vertical.
He'll beat you down the field.
Warren is more traditional tight end, better blocker.
You got to kind of scheme him open.
Loveland, you can go, go out wide.
He'll beat a corner.
So he's like, he's a little bit of a Brock Bowers, and you're getting, there's very few of these,
we thought Kyle Pitts would be this as well, and he hasn't.
Has not even come close.
No, no, but Bowers did.
So Loveland is the new tight end that didn't exist 10 years ago, which is split out wide,
be a third receiver.
What's the kid on Buffalo?
They got the second tight end.
I'm spacing on his name right now.
Kincaid.
Yes, Dalton Kincaid is kind of in that.
Well, Kincaid will block all Utah players block in the NFL.
Kincaid is the new model.
Like he's the new George Kittle-ish.
you can line him up.
He's a mismatch for a safety or a linebacker.
He's really good.
So, it's exciting.
How about the Jets?
No excitement there?
Well, they have a left tackle.
Now they have a right tackle.
Again, I'm not.
You're never going to hear me.
Criticized teams for drafting offensive linemen in the first round.
Agreed.
The only position in the history of football
where almost all the great players come from one round is left tackle.
Most immediate, Tristan Worf's was right to left.
Why?
There's just not many people that are 6.6.3.30 with good feet.
There's a lot of dudes that can run, and there's a lot of guys that can run and tackle.
There's not a lot of that. I will never criticize any time you go O-line.
So if that kid ends up being left or right tackles, the Jets have both their tackles for the next five years.
And AVT on the inside. They got the center from Minnesota, I believe.
They're in good shape. Just need a quarterback.
Yeah. Jets, cowboys, you may drive me nuts.
I will defend you to the ends of the earth on drafting
first round linemen.
I think there were like nine or ten offensive linemen taken in the first round.
By the way, whenever the last time the Cowboys were great,
when they used to spend all their picks in the first round
on Tyron Smith and Zach Martin.
It wasn't about their receiver.
I got CD Lamb now.
They got Micah now.
When they went full on first round O. Lyman, everybody ripped them for it.
They had about an eight-year run
where they just mauled.
people. That's why they can't beat Philadelphia. Now, it's not the receiver issue.
They can't block Philadelphia's front.

Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news.
What's the news, huge news?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
for people could call in and say, hey Jonas,
and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay.
Jen she went.
I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French for me.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now,
and I actually can win on any surface.
Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect.

He felt destined for greatness.
So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world,
he doesn't look back.
Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud.
But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
The largest tax investigation in American history.
You need to tell me what you know.
Is somebody coming after me?
Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.

You know, there's been this criticism, and I think it's very fair of the media that they have agendas.
And I'm not talking politics all the time.
I sometimes see it in the sports media where they always root for the most heart-tugging story.
Just be honest.
Just tell the truth.
The public's not a bunch of idiots.
and the college football media does this every year.
SMU is every bit as good.
You've got to put them in in, and Boise State,
and it's all these heart-tugging stories.
Stop.
Stop.
Fans aren't stupid.
They watch the games.
Every year annually, there's this constant Indiana Hoosiers have to be in the playoffs.
Yeah, they embarrass themselves.
A game against Notre Dame was embarrassing.
And her entire game plan was trying not to lose by much.
So, 26 of the 32 players got drafted last night from the Big Ten in the SEC.
Kirby Smart, Nick Sabin and Ryan Day have more first-round picks in their careers than losses.
College football's always been like tennis.
It's really top-heavy.
Stop trying to convince yourself that, you know, Nadal, Serena, Federer aren't way better than everybody else.
So let me read to you the order of the schools that draft, that got guys chosen,
starting with the ninth pick through the 32nd.
Texas, Michigan, Georgia, Bama, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia,
Ole Miss, Texas, NM, North Dakota State, that player was offered to go to power schools,
NIL, but he stayed there for various reasons.
Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Carolina, Texas, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee,
George, Ohio State, Oregon, Kentucky,
Bam, Ohio State.
Okay, Kentucky's a basketball school.
Give me a break.
Stop.
I mean, look, we had a weird year where Travis Hunter was the best player
and went to Colorado with Dion.
But this annual tradition of trying to convince the fans
in a now 14-team playoff,
it did come on, that team went 11-1.
Look at their schedule.
Who did they play?
That's why I've said if you have a 14-team playoff and 9 to 10 teams came from the SEC and the Big 10, I'm good.
I watched SMU.
I watched Indiana.
The SEC and the Big 10 have the best players entering the program.
And as you watched last night in the first round, the best players exiting the programs.
So it's like, be honest with the audience.
Urban Meyer last hour on the Big 10 over the last several years catching up to the SEC,
and first-round talent.
I first got hired at Ohio State and even Shelley,
and everyone said,
we were used to blocking first-round draft picks in the SEC,
and you were not doing that in the Big Ten.
It was a slow league, and that's no disrespect.
It's a fact.
The investment in Big Ten football changed
in the early part of 2012, 13-14.
And what I mean by that,
recruiting, they got out of their footprint.
They went nationally.
The stadiums got better.
The crowd's got better.
Everything got better.
And as a result, you can see it on draft date.
Yeah.
I mean, I said it this year.
Jay Mack and I said that this year, the last two years of college football,
if you have watched Big Ten football and SEC football, there's no gap.
Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, they look like LSU and Alabama.
There's no gap.
There was a 15-year run where the SEC looked different.
The linebackers were fast.
faster than Big Ten running backs.
Those days are over.
Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, let's start with the Raiders.
We haven't talked much about Ashton Genti going to Vegas.
Big Get for Pete Carroll and company.
GM John Spitech called Ashton Genty a foundational piece.
And Pete Carroll spoke to what he expects from Genty in Vegas.
There's a lot of things to talk about, but one of things, he was hard to tackle.
I mean, you guys couldn't get him on the ground.
And, you know, we compared, I compared him with a lot of players in the past,
that skill to make people miss and to bounce off tackles and to use the force of the tacklers.
And he had marvelous talent in that regard.
And he reminded me, and I'm not going to share him with you because I don't want to compare.
But with a number of players that we've watched over the years and, you know, going back quite a ways,
I thought it was that unique.
I really like this pick.
I like it for a million reasons.
One, Chip Kelly makes it work.
Two, Pete's success has been with dominant run games.
Three, Gino Smith is a different quarterback with a substantial run game.
You mentioned this.
Before the injury, when he had Walker healthy a couple years ago, he was a pro bowler.
And also, if you're going to win in this division now against Reed and Harbaugh and Bo Nex,
some of it's got to be ball control.
You're not going to get into a fireworks show with Peyton Harbaugh.
Andy Reid. I like this pick. Again, I don't always love the Browns. I love what they did. I don't know what's love the Raiders. I love what they did. I like it a lot.
Yeah, they couldn't go wrong. Interesting. Again, I don't hear people saying this, but like Chip Kelly came from where?
He was just at Ohio State. Right, right. They had two awesome running backs. I like Gentie a lot.
Do you think if Chip Kelly saw something from Henderson or Jenkins, he's going to be like, listen, guys, we could just pass on Gentie and get
one of those two guys in a second.
Could we have gotten someone better than Jetty?
But I don't know that there was any even better than him.
Okay, so here's what I heard yesterday from a GM in the NFL.
He said there are four stars in this draft.
The Raiders got one without giving anything up.
Jacksonville got one, but gave up a ton.
And so there were four guys in this league that have, I mean, like Abdul Carter,
Travis Hunter, Genti, they're different.
and a lot of people think Cam Ward is different.
After that, it's a lot of players like Mason Graham,
rock solid B-plus prospect, would probably get drafted 14th to 15th in most drafts.
Now it gets drafted five because it's a weaker draft.
So you didn't have a Bosa.
You didn't have a Khalil Mack where it's like, whoa,
Aidan Hutchison.
It was a three to four star draft, and the Raiders got one without moving up.
think I think Hampton and Henderson are great, but they would be over drafted at that point,
and running back was clearly a need.
You could say that.
Also, somebody would have to move up.
So their take was we need a running back more than anything.
And that's what they really need.
And their take is, okay, let's not take him here.
Pete Carroll wants to win now, so I get it.
You know, you got Gentile running back.
Myers and Trey Tucker outside, they probably got to upgrade that room.
Bowers is a superstar.
Bowers is a superstar.
We'll see on Gino Smith.
I don't know.
Listen, this is the toughest division in football.
Let me say this.
Round two is a great wide receiver round.
Round two and three are great tight-end round.
Raiders don't need that.
Well, they need a receiver.
No, no.
So watch today.
There's going to be some really good players.
It's a very good wide receiver.
It was not a good first-round wide receiver draft.
Very strong second and third round.
Tuffest division in football?
It's better than the NFC North.
I know the North is great.
Hey, Raiders upgrade coach, upgrade coordinates, upgrade quarterback, upgrade run game.
Yeah.
That is, if, I'm telling you, they have a team.
So at 37, I would circle Luther Burden a kid out of Missouri.
Very interesting.
He's very talented.
Slot guy, the gunner.
Browns may take him at 33.
I don't know.
That pick for Raiders has to be, I feel like, either a wide receiver or go defense.
Because in that division where you're facing Mahomes and Herbert, it's like, hey, we need to fortify the defense.
But Raiders arrow's pointing up.
I mean, what, six, seven, maybe eight wins?
I feel better about the Raiders now than I have in 10 years.
Chip and Pete Carroll.
I don't think that's a hot of a take.
No, I think Pete reasonable.
You're smart guys.
And, again, I don't love Gino.
But he is like Darnold.
Circumstantially, when you provide him with some protection and a run game, you can.
Gino made a Pro Bowl two years ago.
He's more than capable.
Let's go to the Green Bay Packers, Colin.
Interesting pick here.
Interesting.
They probably have one of the deepest wide receiver groups in the league.
Well, Watson got hurt.
Watson keeps getting hurt.
And they drafted Matthew Golden out of Texas.
Now, I like Golden a lot.
I thought he was going to Dallas.
A lot of love for the Texas wide receiver.
Super fast.
I think he ran a sub 4-440.
It was the first time since 2002 Green Bay took a wide receiver in the first round.
They never do that.
They're never do that.
They don't take offensive linemen or receivers using it.
So let's look at the Packers wide receiver room.
Okay.
Jaden Reed is a stud.
He's almost like a golden.
Romeo Dobbs, possession guy.
Christian Watson is very good.
But he hurt a lot.
Heard a lot.
And also they have the other kid.
Wicks.
There's something there.
He's wildly inconsistent.
Yeah, he is.
Big Body receiver.
They might have the best wide receiver room in the lead.
Here's my thing.
In Green Bay, I trust.
I trust them.
I think last 20 years they draft as well as anybody.
I'm going to take their word for it.
a receiver with an offensive coach and a capable quarterback.
I trust the pack.
There was some thought that they would go Will Johnson because Jireeer Alexander is on his way out.
But Holden's a more dynamic athlete.
Holden's really good.
Yeah, no, he wasn't he the guy at the combine that tore it up?
Oh, he was a monster.
He was a burning.
And he's excellent in Texas.
There's a lot to like about this Packers team.
I don't have a price.
Chicago's loaded up on offense.
Minnesota's got offensive players.
This is an offensive division.
Yeah.
That's what it is.
You've got to score points.
Would it surprise you if, like, if the Packers finished fourth in the
division. No, no. They're not finishing for it. Again, it's a really tough division. No, it's a
great deal. Give me the division right now, the order for, again, a long way to go, but still.
I don't want to. It's going to be really good. Are you afraid? Detroit's got the best
personnel, but I think, I think Chicago's going to be. So you have Minnesota last?
I think I do. Okay. All right. Interesting. Finally.
I don't know her quarterback yet. Yeah. J.J.M. NBA, Colin, this was not seen by many last night because the Nuggets
Where was it on television?
Who knows?
Nuggets got embarrassed, and Yokic was not happy.
I'm sure Denver fans will be very upset that this video is airing,
but on the bench in the fourth quarter,
Yokic was lighting into his team,
and afterward, he revealed a message to a locker room.
I didn't say nothing.
I mean, I think everybody needs to step up.
You know, they were better than us today
in every aspect of the game.
like her so we need to be
as a group and to play together and
play more like
fighter basketball not
we cannot back down we need to attack
shots
shots fired at his team so they fire their
coach Michael Porter Jr. now has a shoulder
thing Westbrook left early with
foot inflammation and you've got
a guy who's finished top two
in MVP the last five seasons
on the bench unhappy
he doesn't seem like the
kind of guy who would ask out, but he cannot be
thrilled to win a title and now possibly
losing the first round of the paperclips.
Clippers are looking good, man. They're going to
be dangerous for OKC. Who'd you
have in this series? I did not have a
pick on this. Who'd you have?
Clippers.
Can the Clippers meet the Thunder?
I'm winning all my series.
Now the next
Pistons has been tighter than I thought.
Who do you have in Lakers'Wolds? Lakers
in five, they'll win it in six.
So you might go 8-0
in the first one. This is not bad.
We've been really good, by the way.
We told everybody last night, take the Clippers,
and we told everybody take the Knicks.
So we went to-0 again last night.
We'll do tonight's games later.
J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
Hmm.
Come on a little bit of a heater.
Remember that old sweet 16 there, J-Mack, Mr. March over here.
Didn't you love...
I got to say something.
I got a crush on Jim Harbaugh.
He officially has his team.
His pick.
We'll talk about that next.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to our first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about,
what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
one of the early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast
where people could call in and say, Hey Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Tim Harbaugh's a great coach.
He's won everywhere he wins immediately.
And half of you are absolutely trying to convince
those of us who get it that he can't coach.
So he goes to the Chargers.
They have the 32nd ranked defense.
he makes it number one with most of the same players.
Yeah, he can coach.
Makes them a playoff team.
So last year he gets Joe Alt.
So it takes, usually in year two, that's when Harbaugh's teams pop.
So he takes Joe Alt, and now they got their two tackles.
And in this offseason, he gets Naji Harris, power running back, maybe more of a 1A than a 1.
And then yesterday he gets Hampton, Amarian Hampton from UNC, a power back.
Joe Mixing with speed.
So now he's got two starbacks, two star tackles, his star quarterback, a great slot receiver
at Ladd McConkey, now they've got to go get a perimeter wide receiver and a tight end.
Everything's set up for him, though.
But it's remarkable to me that some of you are still clinging to, yeah, he's overrated.
You notice how Michigan has been thumping Ohio State for years?
you do get those are Jim's players
and nobody else seems to be beating Ohio State
Michigan is annually
so here he is on picking up
I mean at the 22nd pick
you got that kid
here's Jim
you know to have
you know those
two really great
great players running the football
and and protecting it
in the backfield and being able to catch passes out of the
backfield I mean I think they're
They're both outstanding.
We're really fired up to have made our team better tonight.
And then back to work tomorrow to keep making the team better.
Stanford 49ers, Michigan, L.A. Chargers, wins really quickly and makes his teams very physical.
Same khakis.
Same whole milk with his steak.
Not into trends.
What's hot now?
The hard boss do it the same way.
draft developed toughness i'd say this all the time u s c was rolling in the pack 12
stanford was awful worst team in the country arguably jim takes over by the end of his second
year i thought they were the most physical team in the conference they weren't the best they were
the most physical and by year three get out of the way and this is what he did with the niners
it's what he did with michigan michigan was a mess when he took him over and it took him years and
years and years to build up enough talent to beat like bama and georgia but football at its
is about big, tough, intimidating physical men.
It's not cute. It's not finesse.
This is so on brand for Harbaugh.
Joe Alt, Naji Harris,
Amarian Hampton,
so on brand.
And remember, because he was a college coach,
he's recruited all these kids.
So last year, they're a great draft.
This year, they're going to have a great draft.
Now, by next year,
it'll get... Pete Carroll did this when he came from SC to Seattle.
His first two drafts were insane.
He just knew college personnel about it.
That might your third and fourth draft.
It's not, you know, you're losing some connectivity.
But it's just, I watched what they're doing here.
Isn't it amazing?
When people are really good at something, they make it look easy.
And every time I watch Harbaugh, you know, you sit there and watch Harbaugh,
and my takeaway is always, you know, why can't anybody else,
why didn't anybody else get Joe Alt and Hampton at the 22nd pick?
Like, they just make it look easy.
The good GMs.
I mean, I'll give the Colts Chris Ballard credit.
And he didn't have the right quarterback, and their owner is impulsive, but, I mean, you go look at what the Colts got last year and this year.
They're just patient, they just wait, and they get Warren to drop to him, a position of need, and they go get an excellent tight end.
Like, no, no, the really good GMs in this league make it kind of good cultures, Baltimore, patient.
Oh, best safety, Georgia guy.
Isn't it amazing how the same teams crush every year in this draft?
Yeah, interesting.
Baltimore is doing something nobody else in the league is doing.
We're going to make our two best players on defense,
safeties, Hamilton and Starks.
That's strange, but I kind of sort of like it.
Safeties are making a comeback.
Hey, guys, it's us, the Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
