This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast.
Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.
Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule.
of two. Listen to Stuff to Blow Your Mind on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what
went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends, fellow comedians,
and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. I mean, it was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black
people.

Hour number two, live in L.A.
It's the Heard.
Wherever you may be, however you may be listening, IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1.
Joel Klats around the corner, Nick Wright this hour as well.
A-Rod joining us next hour.
You watched some baseball last night?
I did.
A-Rod batting cleanup for us.
That's nice today.
I watched the Yankees game for a while.
About an hour.
I watched about an hour and a half of the Dodger game last night.
Dodgers Padres, the conclusion is always the same.
There were a lot of stars last night.
Jason Bateman was there.
The great Sandy Kofax was there.
Brad Paisley was there.
Who's that?
The country star.
Oh, it's great.
Dodger games.
Yankees game was good as well.
It was.
I still am on course for the Yankees Dodgers World Series.
We're going to speak it into existence.
I think it's going to be Astros Dodgers.
Those darn Astros got so lucky last night.
So I grew up a Mariner fan.
My entire existence, I wanted to be a play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Mariners.
That was my goal as a kid.
I gave up on that pretty quick.
And by the way, so we've only had one or two really good Mariners teams.
my whole life.
And it's weird when you're a kid,
you know,
or they care.
You love your team.
Then I got a fatigued after about 10 years.
The front office drove me crazy.
I just, I don't care.
But my friends,
the Mariners team,
they have a star.
They have a couple of young stars.
They went in at the trade deadline,
made a move for a pitcher.
And yesterday they had it one.
And then the Astros come in.
Bottom nine, bang.
I don't even know if you overcome that.
That's a gut punch for the Mariners.
And didn't they go with an ace?
out of the pen, which is always a dicey situation.
So, listen, baseball playoffs are great.
You can feel the tension watching the baseball playoffs.
So I want to touch on this.
So Ron Rivera came out.
I thought it was completely tone deaf.
What a shock.
A defensive coach is toned deaf about a quarterback.
But people asked him about the problem with Washington,
and Ron Rivera said this.
The Giants, you know, they're up to a faster start.
The Eagles, the Cowboys, you know,
they've kind of all been rebuilding, too, the last couple of years.
and it seems like they're farther ahead.
Why do you think the teams in the division are farther ahead at this point?
Quarterback.
The truth is that this is a quarterback-driven league.
And if you look at the teams that have been able to sustain success,
they've been able to build it around a specific quarterback.
He apologized for that.
So it's easy for me to say something.
Let's really break it down.
There's only 13 defensive coaches left in the league.
And I think if three or four are gone after this year, maybe.
But let's look at each one individually to prove my point that as the league is pivoted to offense,
we've got a real issue here.
So let's look at every defensive coach.
Let's start with one everybody likes, Sean McDermott, Buffalo.
Six years.
They can't develop a run game.
Six years.
Next is Belichick.
And we like McDermott.
Cannot develop a consistent run game.
Belichick, they have no pass catchers.
The Jets.
Robert Sala. Jury's still out. I won't make a judgment.
Mike Tomlin, four years. Can't get the coordinator or the O-line right.
Lovie Smith, 29th ranked offense.
Mike Vrable, 30th ranked offense.
L.A. Chargers, just underachieving.
Ron Rivera, a fourth place team.
Matt Eber Fluse, the Bears are averaging 10 completions against.
game. Todd Bulls, offense has been sluggish, but it's mostly Brady's team. Dennis Allen,
James Winston has regressed badly. And Pete Carroll, yeah, I'm not buying the Gino Smith thing
long term. It's a fourth place team. I didn't have to reach for those conclusions.
Like, we got a culture change and the defensive guys, and I like McDermott. And for years,
I worshipped Belichick. But you've got to be able to develop a run.
game in six years.
Like some consistent run game.
Weakest part of the bills.
Not the defense.
It's the O line. Better this year.
Struggled for five years.
And with that, it's going to be the best college football weekend of the year.
It's going to be absolutely sensational.
One of the highlight games is Penn State at Michigan.
Joel Clad will be on it.
Joining us now.
Here is the Clatster.
It's so good to have you.
Listen to that.
Rockest crowd.
I love it.
Crowd.
Novation.
So listen, everybody, this is the way college football works.
The whole country is pulling for Penn State to beat Harbaugh.
You think so?
Oh, I think I, that is why I'm going to double down and say Michigan wins.
Oh.
But there are a lot of people, a lot of people that are rooting for Penn State because Harbaugh is confident and that's a bad thing in today's society.
They don't like that.
He can't be good.
He's confident and he doesn't care what you think.
He doesn't, and he makes it very clear.
Penn State.
It's a difficult one for Michigan.
Why?
Because Penn State has transformed.
They're far different than they were a year ago,
and their strengths are actually right where you need to be strong to face Michigan.
So from a matchup standpoint, this is a difficult matchup,
really for each team, which is why it's such an intriguing game,
but certainly from the Michigan standpoint.
And one guy stands out above any other for Penn State.
And it's not their quarterback, Sean Clifford, or even their great new running back,
Nick Singleton, a freshman or their offense.
Britain Strange, you're seeing here on your screen to tie it in running for a touchdown again Purdue.
It's a guy that was hurt in the back half of last year, and he makes them a really stout run defense.
And it's their defensive tackle, PJ Mustifer.
He's a really good player, Colin.
And if Michigan can't just own the line of scrimmage and run the ball with Blake Corum,
that means the game is going to fall on the shoulders of young J.J.
Carthy. And that's a big moment and a big stage for a young quarterback at that point. So I think the game
rests on PJ Mustifer and the Penn State's defense ability to try to make Michigan a one-dimensional
offense. The other thing about Harbaugh, he's not cool. And the internet loves cool. They love Johnny
Mansell. They don't like Russell Wilson. They love cool. And Harbaugh wears Dockers and he wears that
goofy whistle. And I'm doubling down on Harbaugh this weekend. I like Michigan to win. They do.
looked a little bit like it last year.
This team looks like, I test.
They can play with Georgia.
May not beat them, but I see size, strength,
arms, speed.
They're fast.
They can run.
So you touched on it right there in the end.
The most important aspects for Michigan this year is they are faster.
Now, they have not shown a lot of,
let's just say, offensive creativity over the last few weeks.
And I'm wondering, I'm sitting there, shoot, man,
I feels like I'm like the voice of the Wolverines.
I've seen him three straight weeks and about to see him a fourth straight week.
But Colin, in the back of my mind, I'm just sitting here and I'm wondering to myself,
is this really their entire offense or are they saving something?
Well, the quarterback to create.
Well, I understand that, but that doesn't mean.
See, here's the thing.
The misconception about creativity on offense is that it's hard for the quarterback mentally.
It's actually not.
Okay.
And the more creative you can be pre-snap than the more of,
vanilla you can be post-snap. This is the way
offenses should always be built. Make the defense look at a lot,
movement, different formations, different personnel groups, and then run
the same five to ten to twelve concepts out of those different looks.
This is what makes Lincoln Riley so good. This is what makes Steve
Sarkesian so good at the college level. And Michigan hasn't shown
that. They've got heavy tendencies formationally, and they're going to need to break
those and get more creative if they want to win on Saturday.
All right. So you got Michigan going into the
can here. You don't like them. Let's go USC.
So another gigantic, important brand for the sport.
Everybody's bailing on USC, and then I watch Utah get completely undressed by UCLA.
By the way, UCLA is a tough matchup for USC. You'll get to that later.
They are. They match up. I don't know if Utah's as tough a matchup. You know what Utah can't
do? Stop mobile quarterbacks.
Okay. No, that's fair. They struggle with Anthony Richardson. They struggled with Dorian
Thompson. I think it's very obvious. If I can see it, Lincoln Riley at
practice can see it. I watch this matchup and I'm like, I think Caleb Williams going to be a
handful for the youths. No doubt about it. Caleb Williams is a bad matchup for Utah. There's no doubt.
However, however, I will say this. This is a terrible matchup for USC. Terrible matchup for USC.
Their success this year is a bit of an illusion. And the reason being because it looks like their
defense is playing better and can stop some people. They're.
They're number one in scoring defense in the PAC 12.
I didn't hear you.
Would you say number one in the nation?
No, no, no, no, Pac 12 in scoring defense.
They're number one in the nation in interceptions and sacks.
Impressive.
But the only way they can get to that is if they play with the lead.
Their offense is so important to them because their style of play is so important to them.
Did you know they're 105th in the country in terms of yards per rush defense?
They give up over four and a half yards per carry.
Guess who's more committed to the run than anybody in the conference?
Utah, 33 carries a game, or excuse me, 39 carries per game.
Guess who does a better job than anybody in the PAC 12 of holding the ball and keeping the opposition's offense on the sideline?
Utah, 33 minutes per game time of possession.
Guess what Utah does at home in Salt Lake?
Since 2017, they're 23 and 2.
Utah wins this weekend, folks.
Utah wins.
They're favored by three and a half.
They should be.
USC is good.
I love what Lincoln Riley is doing.
you know that more than anybody. I sit here and sing their praises, but this is a terrible
matchup because of the illusion of quality defense. That defense is not quality if they can't
play with the lead. So let me guess. Michigan USC stink. You got Tennessee beat in Alabama.
Stink, what are you talking about? Let me guess. Tennessee beats Alabama.
Oh, this is a terrible matchup for Bama. Oh, boy. You know how many times I've heard that in
last 10 years? And you know how many times I've seen it? Not many.
Well, at some point, you just got to watch the film, look at the data.
I like Tennessee's uniforms.
Well, no, I thought the gray uniforms were atrocious last week.
Now, I thought what was the most impressive about Tennessee last week was their quarterback.
He's fantastic.
I love Hendon Hooker.
By the way, who beats Alabama?
Fairness.
Quarterbacks.
Yeah.
If the quarterback can move, I mean, if you go to the hits.
Exactly.
I will say this.
Tennessee has a way of breaking your heart.
Nobody tags like Tennessee football.
No, that's true.
But I will say, this is the kind of quarterback that it has beaten Alabama.
And in particular this year.
This is what they struggled with in the first quarter against Texas,
is that Quinn Ewers could hurt them down the field.
When it comes to down the field passing, nobody, well, maybe Ohio State does it better than Tennessee,
and nobody else really.
In fact, when you look at who's thrown more 30-yard completions or more in college football,
explosive pass plays, Tennessee is second on that list to Ohio State with 16.
Hendon Hooker has 40 touchdowns, over 40 touchdowns, only three interceptions since transferring to Tennessee.
it's a bad matchup for Alabama.
Plus, Alabama doesn't know about their status of their quarterback.
And they struggle on the road in the last couple of years.
Really, since they lost a dominant offensive line,
they have struggled on the road.
Last year, they won a tight one against Florida on the road.
They got beat by Texas A&M, four overtimes against Auburn.
This year, they go to Texas.
They have to win by a point with their quarterback putting a cape on their back.
And this might be the toughest environment of them all.
Neeland is going to be on fire.
Hinden Hooker is playing as good of football as anybody.
He's really good.
I think Tennessee wins this weekend.
I hate it.
You know, after whatever I said, you know, what it was,
seven years ago, like, oh, Alabama's done.
You do not make money betting against Nick Sabin,
betting against the tide.
But just this matchup is bad for them.
John Quincy Adams was the last time Tennessee beat Alabama.
He was the president.
When's the last time Tennessee beat Alabama?
Alabama. It must have been 15 years ago. I think that they win Saturday. I think that they win Saturday.
So you got USC rolling down the hill getting whacked in Utah. Well, they're not even favored in that game.
That's a terrible, again, football is always about matchups. This is a really bad matchup for USC on the road against Utah.
And this is a really bad matchup for Alabama on the road against Tennessee. These two teams are strong where they need to be to beat Bama and to beat USC.
Let's look at your Joel Klatz's top 10.
You know, I got to be honest with you a little bit.
I think I'm not in love with Clemson this year.
I'm not.
And I'll tell you this.
Well, we just don't know.
Oklahoma State, I watched them last weekend.
I think Clemson and Oklahoma State, I'm not buying it.
I think they're good.
I think Tennessee is underrated.
I'd move Tennessee up.
I think, okay, UCLA may be a basketball school.
I got UCLA in there at number 10.
UCLA's got seniors on the offensive line.
Senior court.
They got a lot of snaps.
Let me just put it to you this way. If you're looking at this top 10, the top five are clearly kind of the top five. And I know you threw out some questions about Clemson. Top four might be the top four. But those are the five schools that you could have made playoff appearances outside of everybody else. USC, Penn State, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma State, UCLA have not. If you're saying of those next five, Tennessee, which team is most likely to go to the playoff? Well, I'm saying the four teams you have, Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, Georgia, Michigan, I think they're the top four.
Tennessee, I would put it five.
So of those next teams, I think UCLA might be the team that's most likely to go to the
playoff.
Oh, no, and most likely to go to the playoffs.
That's what I was bringing up.
Because Tennessee is going to win two of three against Bama, Georgia, Bama.
Right, right.
And I don't see that.
USC, they got a bad matchup against Utah, and it's a terrible matchup against UCLA.
I think Penn State and that gauntlet in the Big Ten East, that's tough.
They got two teams ahead of them in the rankings.
Oklahoma State's not that much better than the rest of the teams in the big 12.
And now you're sitting there and it's like, hey, the way you CLA played, they could win the Pact 12.
Okay, I tend to be one of these people.
The internet is just everything is outrage.
You and I joke about it.
You're the voice of reason.
I tend to think I am.
You're the calming influence of the internet.
I tend to be patient with the long history of giving things time to bake.
But I'd fire Venables this weekend.
So Matt Rule is available.
Yes.
If I'm the athletic director at Oklahoma, I say,
Hold on.
Hey, time out.
I'd call his agent.
I'd say Matt, golf.
We'll give you free golf.
Golf.
I got four games to watch.
This is a whiff.
You got to own stuff.
Hey, Arizona said,
I'm talking right now.
When I watch Oklahoma,
tackling, coverage,
do you see that sideline the last two weekends?
Like guys are bailing.
We have a transfer portal now.
You can lose 10 starters in this thing.
If they don't get it right in the next month,
I think you have to call Matt Rule.
You can't go to the S.
By the way, look at the SEC right now.
Offensive coach at Tennessee, they're surging.
Offensive coach at Ole Miss.
They're surging.
I know y'all love Sabin and Kirby Smart.
There are a lot of smart offensive coaches in that comment.
Even Sabin's defense now is not as dominant as it was.
Really?
It doesn't look as fast as it used to.
All I'm saying is,
Matt Rule, he's not taking to Wisconsin or Nebraska jobs.
Come on.
I don't know.
That is a quick trigger and a huge number to move away from Brent Venables.
I think that Brent is, I think he is a guy that can and will have success.
This last weekend was a tough one because he loses his quarterback.
49-0-0?
I know.
Trust me.
I get it.
And what was most disturbing is the lack of effort in heart showed.
by Oklahoma in that game specifically and in that venue.
That's the spot that it's like, you make your last stand.
If you're on one of those teams, that's it.
You leave it all on the field, and Oklahoma certainly didn't do that.
Okay, so let's shift to this.
You talk about playoff.
Oklahoma stinks.
Baylor, to me, is a little down.
Oklahoma State feels a little, a little fraudulent but solid.
Quinn Ewers, Texas, they are not out of the playoffs.
Yeah, this is interesting.
This is interesting.
By the way, best loss in the country.
Well, and without their quarterback for three quarters, and they had outplayed Alabama.
I know this is wild.
And here's the deal.
Texas has, we do this all the time with Texas.
You know, they're back, and then they ebb and flow.
And their charge now is to go out there and play with some level of consistency.
Having said that, it's clear to me when I watch Texas with Quinn Ewers as their quarterback.
Different team.
They're a top 10 team.
Absolutely.
They can beat anybody in the country and certainly in their conference.
I will ask you this.
Let me just paint a picture for you.
All right.
This four-team scenario.
Are you ready for this?
Alabama 12-1 losing the SEC championship game.
Okay, so non-champ.
Michigan 11 and 1, non-champ, non-division champ.
Pac-12, USC or UCLA, one-loss champ, Texas, two-loss, Big 12 champ.
Who goes?
There's one spot available.
Because in that scenario, Clemson, Big 10, champ.
and Georgia would go.
Who goes?
Texas would be in the conversation.
That's what I'm trying.
Like Texas would have an argument at that point.
When I watch Texas, first of all, Sark is such a clever offensive coach.
He is.
He's really clever.
Now, I'm not saying they're going to win all their games, but college football has been
dying for what's happening this year.
Like I watch USC and UCLA, and I'm like, the game's shifting to offense, you may have
two of the smartest offensive guys in the last 10 years in college football.
Those teams can score.
And I think that college football in particular has gone wildly to like just defense, just running, just passing.
And what it's kind of evening out to right now is you better be complete.
There's a completeness that you have to have.
And when you look at the way Texas played last week, they've got Bejohn Robinson at running back, they've got now Quinn Uers,
they've got a passing game, a defense that played very well.
And you can say the same about UCLA.
They can throw it, they can run it, they play tough on defense.
Completeness is what's rewarded.
That's why I have Ohio State at number one right now.
They're a more complete team than anybody else in the country.
But that's why these teams like UCLA and Texas could be surging into a position
where we're talking about them late November for a playoff spot.
I am vulnerable.
I'm willing to have my heart broken by Texas again.
You're out there.
You're ready to just put it out there.
I put my heart out there and it gets slapped around the hockey table all the time.
I think Texas is legit.
When Quinn yours is quarterback, I think they're totally legit.
That's, I mean, that's the caveat.
When he's out there, I don't disagree with you.
I don't disagree.
By the way, I'm not pulling the trigger on Brent Venables for Matt Rule.
Not this quick.
No, no, no.
I won't do that.
Good luck in your recruiting cycle next year.
Okay, he's got a new podcast.
The Joel Clack.
It was good this week.
Thank you.
You did a good job on that stuff.
Wherever your podcast go, new episodes drop three times a week.
Boy, they're working you here.

You've got to go, you've got to go listen to Monday's podcast. I told a story about playing
minor league baseball. It was fantastic. And facing Mark Pryor in one of his rehab starts.
I am the Mark Pryor of talk show host.
No, I'm sorry, you're not.
I actually faced Mark Pryor, and now I'm sitting in this chair and you're not.
He is Joe Clark.
Michigan, Penn State.
You're the best.
I'm going to go to Michigan, but I do think it's close.

I'm glad you're locked in on that game, one of the best games of the week,
and it's a great NFL and college weekend, as well as MLB playoffs.
It's one of the better weekend.
Well, I mean, it's October.
It's mid-October.
Mid-October's always great.
And then this year, November starts.
Can we get the World Cup?
NBA, college basketball, World Cup.
Oh, my God.
How good is sports right now in America?
The rest of the country is divided sports brings us together.
So much fun.
Watching Yankee Stadium and Dodgers,
stadium last night and that scene in Houston.
The fans are amazing.
Electric. Just incredible.
All right, Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.
This is the Herdline News.
We'll start with a quarterback we rarely talk about on this show, Jimmy Garapolo,
because after an offseason full of drama, surprise surgery, trade rumors,
awkward reunion at training camp, Jimmy G's had a, you know, pretty decent start
to taking over for Trey Lance.
And he believes his story is one made for high.
Hollywood.
It's still being written.
One day this will be hell of a movie.
I'll tell you that.
Yeah, well.
And we've got to figure out who's going to play you.
I don't know.
I think the best thing about, you know, me and Kyle just being in this situation is we've been in weird situations in the past.
This being no different.
And I think just the professionalism of both of us and what really at the end of the day keeps us together.
We both won't win games, man.
I mean, that's what's all about.
It's why we're here.
We're not here to put up cool stats and look good on the stats.
We're here to get Ws and that's it.
You know what?
Am I the only, I don't get to listen to a lot of their shows.
I know in San Francisco the defendant, and I know the rest of the country bangs on him.
Am I the only, like you would say, syndicated national person that loves Jimmy Garapolo?
I think I am, because I heard something the other day.
I was driving around and I'm like, I am on a total island.
I think there's a leadership thing, an alpha thing, a guy's guy thing.
He is Chris Paul.
They ask him to just get rid of the ball quickly, get it to the scores, get it to the receivers.
there are quarterbacks in this league with more talent.
Kyler Murray does not fit this offense.
I don't know.
You think I'm crazy when I say this.
I'm not sure Aaron Rogers does.
Aaron wants to do his own thing.
Garoppolo is perfect for this offense.
If he had never had an injury ever, you wouldn't move off him.
That's why they've drafted a quarterback because he couldn't stay healthy.
I think he started his career 35 and 15 in his first 50 star.
I mean, like, listen, it's unquantifiable because there aren't stats to back up his greatness,
but he just wins football games.
I know that's silly to say.
And a lot of them, convincingly.
I cannot wait.
Listen, I'm not a huge Niners fan.
I hope they go to the Super Bowl.
Just so Shanahan and Lynch can eat Crow for trying to kick this guy to the curb and go with Trey friggin' lands.
Well, we did.
Trey Lance could be very good.
We don't know that.
We don't know that.
We don't know.
Yeah, likely story.
All right.
Following last week's loss of the Colts, it was revealed that Russell Wilson has been dealing with a strained lat muscle on his throwing shoulder.
Ouch.
Painful.
Fear not.
Broncos Nation.
Nathaniel Hackett believes.
Russ will be good to go for the Monday matchup against the Chargers at SoFi.
Here's what he had to say.
Where does it stand with Russ?
Is he going to be able to play?
Or where does it stand with him in his shoulder right now?
Yes, no, he should be ready to play.
Most of the stuff that we've done as we collaborated and made this offense,
the stuff that he's comfortable with, that we're comfortable with.
And we're always going to do what's best for our guys and what's best for Russell.
And we'll continually develop a plan for him on all the things that he does well.
Okay, I'm in a weird spot because I have friends at the Chargers,
so I always root for them to win.
but I'm tired of Russell Wilson getting dragged by everybody, and I want Russell to win.
Yeah.
This will be very emotional.
I'm going to make a martini.
I usually don't drink during games.
I'm going to martini Monday on this because I don't know if I can handle it.
This is a six-point spread at the open charges.
That's high.
It is a lot.
And I've been beating up on Nathaniel Hackett.
His agent's mad at me.
Listen, what I see is troubling.
They're a penalty-clogged mess, and the offense seems disjointed.
There isn't a credible defense at this.
point for Nathaniel Hackett through five games. There's like nothing you can say to back him.
He hasn't done one thing right, Colin. Has he? Name one thing. Well, now, he would privately say
Russell has lost all-touch accuracy on the deep ball. Oh, yeah, that's going to work. Hey, it's
Russell Wilson's fault, not mine. Russell Wilson will want to say that publicly, but if he was
defending himself to the owner or the GM, if he had a text chain or a call, it's like, listen,
Russell's not hitting open, deep shots.
And that was his strength in Seattle.
Was the tear drop rainbow.
I mean, Russ wasn't always statistically a monster in Seattle,
but he always beat you over the top.
That was like a given.
He doesn't do that anymore.
Like he's completely inaccurate over the top.
Fair, but Russ is solely responsible for that win over San Francisco, right?
The one drive they had at the end of the game, scrambling.
So he's the only reason they're not one and four right now, Colin, I would say.
All right.
Hackett's in trouble.
Sorry to his agent out there.
since he's watching.
Final story, Colin Odell Beckham Jr.
You know, he's still coming back from the tour in ACL,
but of course he's on social media.
And according to OBJ,
the Rams did not make him an offer,
saying, and I think we have the tweet,
L.A., he's responding to random guys on the internet.
Never a good sign.
L.A. knows where I wanted to be,
but they didn't offer me anything.
So I don't know what people want me to do.
I definitely know my worth and what the offer was.
Is it reflective of that?
So it's tough to say that I can come on back, even though I thought I finally found a home.
I don't know why Green Bay doesn't get on this.
Green Bay has an issue right now, and nobody disputes it.
All the analytics and data point to it.
Green Bay can't beat you downfield, right?
Like what they're doing now is throwing the ball behind the line of scrimmage, screens, jet sweeps.
Because they lost scantling to the chiefs, they lost the downfield component, and Devonte Adams.
So they're really now a screen team, a bubble screen, an underneath team.
They are the perfect place for OBJ.
But he's coming off an ACL.
I don't think we can expect him.
You're not signing him to do a four-year deal.
Does he want to play with Aaron Rogers for a year?
Does he want to live in Green Bay?
He just had a kid with an influencer out here in L.A.
He likes Los Angeles.
It was perfect for him.
He wants to stay here.
You think he wants to spend the winner in Green Bay home?
He doesn't have to spend, though.
I mean, listen.
They're going to make a run in the playoffs.
I mean, we don't think they're not making the playoffs.
Colin, come on it.
If Dallas and Philadelphia both make it, and today it looks like they would,
there's one of the wild card spots.
Do we need to count the 17?
Do you think San Francisco and the Rams both make it?
I do.
Rams?
Oh, they'll get it corrected when they get healthy.
Toughest schedule in the league remaining, Colin.
Rams problems are somewhat solvable.
If you don't bring an OBJ, you have no deep passing game in Green Bay.
It's not a solvable.
There's no solution to OBJ is a solution to Green Bay.
problems. I would agree with that, but coming off the ACL, is he going to be running deep routes
all afternoon? He was hurt in Cleveland. He got to L.A. He was wide open all the time. I mean,
and by the way, he is a legendary workout. I mean, OBJ puts the time in. Yeah, well, we know the
giants are beat up at receiver. Remember, they showed him around. Sepon. Barclay's calling him.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions.
bro. Absolutely. And that's two
different levels of trust. I want you to
just really be a good person.

And he always has strong opinions.
Having been born and raised
in Kansas City. So let's... Oh, yeah.
The breaking news is Devante Adams.
I defended him initially because I think he's a good guy and he has a history been a good guy and your resume matters.
Second thing is the initial video from above was not conclusive.
The second video behind him, a kid walked in front of him.
Shouldn't push people.
But what do you make of now the misdemeanor assault charge against him having been born and raised in that town?
Well, listen, I love my hometown.
Do I think the Kansas City Police have bigger problems to deal?
with and Devante Adams? Yeah, of course I do. I don't know if there's the greatest use of
resources, but it is by the letter of the law, simple assault. It was caught on film.
Devante then admitted to it after the game when he apologized, so I guess they have to
follow through if the gentleman wants press charges. I'm sure Devante Adams is not going to be
any real legal jeopardy. And I totally agree with you that your track record has to matter.
Yes. His apology was sincere. I think it was a heat of the moment, you know,
issue. I don't think it means he's a bad guy. With that said, Colin, I came on this show and on
our show and argued that Mike Evans should not be suspended, but the NFL decided to suspend him.
I think what Devante did is worse than what Mike Evans did. So, David, Mike Evans pushed another
football player. Devante pushed a civilian, you know, on the outskirts of the football field.
I don't think either should be suspended. But with the NFL setting the precedent that Mike
Mike Evans gets a game for shoving Marsha on Lanhamore, how do you, do you think they're going
to suspend Devante?
Because I think with the Evans precedent, they almost have to.
Yeah.
Because what Devante did is worse.
Okay.
So I, not that I defended Draymond, but I said when it came out, I said the internet thrives on
outrage and that I, Damian Lillard and Steve Kerr both said, oh, yeah, the fistfights
happened all the time.
Flip Saunders, the late great Flip Saunders said, the reason none of us coaches want our
practice videoed. This happens all the time. We're trying to create tough mental teams,
tough physical teams. Our practices are hard. And I do believe there is a sanitized version of
sports the public sees. And then we put cameras in places and we don't like what we see.
But do you think this rises to a culture splitting moment by Draymond and Jordan Pool that
it could really hurt? Well, listen, I disagree with you on the Draymond thing. Just first of all.
Yes, I think things happen at practice.
I think this right here does not happen very often, if ever.
And my general rule of thumb is if everyone's go-to example is something that happened a quarter century ago between Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan,
then it must be pretty rare if we've got to go 25 years back.
And this isn't a practice scuffle.
This is Draymond Green walking up on a much smaller person.
and if you watch everyone else's reaction,
nobody thinks this is about to elevate to the level of a haymaker
and then throwing a straight right that easily could have broke the guy's jaw or eye socket.
Very lucky that Jordan Pool did not get significantly injured.
Steve Kerr then also said,
this is the biggest crisis of my career.
And yet, Draymond gets essentially no penalty.
He's not even going to miss the entire preseason.
So to answer your question,
absolutely. I think this could be
a massive moment for the Warriors.
I think that if you're,
let me give Draymond credit kind of here.
I listen, and I know he's your guy.
I believe his sincerity of the apology.
But Draymond has now entered an area
that is a dangerous spot,
which is I believe you are apologetic,
I believe you are sincere,
I do not believe you can help yourself.
I do not believe that you,
Because I think he felt badly when he almost fought Kerr six years ago.
I think he felt badly when he slapped the kid at the Michigan State Bar when he was a pro and a champion,
and that was a college kid.
I think he felt badly when he helped run KD out of town.
He felt badly when he got suspended for an NBA finals game.
I think he feels badly now.
I don't think he has adequate control over his impulses.
I think he's demonstrated that over five, six years.
and I think that if there's a real chance that this is a moment for the Warriors,
where the veteran side with Draymond and the younger guy's side with Poole,
and that could be a very, very big problem.
That's an interesting take.
So listen, two things can happen.
I can feel empathy and the Miami Dolphins put two in a horrible situation.
And I can also simultaneously believe quarterbacks get hit and small ones.
It's more punitive.
the league is overreacting to this.
Where do you land on right now the Chris Jones play,
which I thought was the worst call I'd ever seen.
The Jarrett call.
A lot of people think I didn't,
but a lot of people think they just took the ball out of Atlanta's hands.
Atlanta was rolling in that game.
What do you make of where we're at?
So I want to stay here if we can for a moment
because I want your opinion on this, what I'm about to say.
Because I agree with you, we have to be able to do two things at once.
We have to be able to have a,
rigorous adhered to
concussion protocol for all
players, not just quarterbacks,
and we have to call roughing
the passer as it's presently written
and don't have those two things.
The issue with the two of plays was
not, was it roughing or was
it not roughing? The issue with the two
of play was, did you allow a
concussed player to go back into the game
and skirt the concussion protocol?
That Matt Milano was called for roughing
the passer on that play. So those are separate
things. But here's what I want your take.
on, Colin, because this, I do think in a different way, the Tua circumstance, is what led to
the Grady Jarrett and the Chris Jones penalties. Because everyone in the media, and you were
the first person, by the way, I give you credit that I heard throw this out there. I think it was
on Sunday night or Thursday night after the Tua thing. And you didn't use the word a taxia,
but a taxi is the medical term. The idea of if a guy's wobbly, he's out. Take him out for the
game. Have it be an automatic.
The NFL did that.
And now you saw immediately
Teddy Bridgewater,
it seems like not suffer a concussion,
but be ruled out for that game
and now is in the concussion protocol
because they're following those rules.
I believe this, Colin,
that the NFL knows now
that, okay, everyone demanded
that if any player,
most notably quarterbacks,
get up in their wobbly,
they have to be out for the game.
So now we have to make even more.
sure, those guys never end up wobbly.
And so I do think they are trying, I think we are, that Chiefs Raiders game, the first
two quarterback sacks, one on the homes, one on car, they never took them to the ground.
They got there, they wrapped them up and the refs blew it dead.
I think that's where this is going.
I think they are going to do a version of two-hand touch on the quarterback because if the rule
is going to be, if you show any sign.
of dizziness or lack of stability, you're out for the game.
What they don't want is in this weekend's Chiefs' Bills game
for Josh Allen to take a big hit, stumble for a moment,
concussion related or not, and now he's done for the day.
So the only way to prevent that is to try to prevent him from taking a big hit.
I think that's where this is headed.
Well, I'll tell you what I thought.
My first takeaway when I watched Bridgewater leave after a play
is a lot of teams want to carry two quarterbacks.
Now you must carry three.
is that what will happen is there's always been an understanding in the NFL
that if Brady didn't like Garoppolo around, you got him out of the building.
Now it's like tough luck.
You have to.
Now, the good news is there's never been more quality quarterbacks in high school and college.
But now that last roster spot is absolutely a quarterback.
Because to your point, I think it would be great if everybody did a Max Crosby.
It would be wonderful.
And I do think, you know, the NFL's always been pretty good unlike baseball.
they're pretty good at moving in the direction of, you know, it's a TV show.
And they'll do it quick.
Yep.
You know, they understand, like, listen, nobody likes the Chris Jones penalty.
Nobody does.
And the Grady Jarrett penalty, listen, if you're shocked that, you know, Tom Brady got the benefit of a game-changing call,
well, where have you been the last 20 years?
But set that aside.
Nobody likes it.
But what people really won't like is if in this weekend's Chiefs' Bills game, Patrick Mahomes gets sacked.
swears he's fine, but it gets ruled out for the football game.
And what they really won't like is if that happens in the playoffs.
And the only way to do their best to prevent that is to try to make sure the
quarterbacks don't take big hits.
I'm not saying it's the right call, but I think that's the direction this is going.
All right.
I'm going to let you save all your Kansas City Buffalo stuff because I like the Chiefs this weekend, too.
I run out of time, but you're right.
Underdogs at home, Colin.
Underdogs in Arrowhead.
the big bad champion Buffalo Bills.
Oh, God.
By the way, number one scoring offense in the league, Colin, not Buffalo.
Kansas City with no tirey kill.
It's almost like they have the better quarterback and the better coach and they're at home.
And they're underdogs?
Underdogs.
Okay.
No problem.
Yeah, it's my favorite bet of the week, Kansas City.
Nick Wright.
Good seeing you, buddy.
See you, my friend.
I loved his Draymond Green take, very thoughtful, that we're talking about a plighton.
player maybe that some people, this is, some people have a temper. Go back to your childhood.
I mean, people are, you know, genetically wired to be what they are. And at some point,
Draymond feels bad. But if this is the third, the fourth, the fifth instant that he is
struggling with this control, it may be just a reality of personality. And that happens all the time.
I got six kids. Like they all have unique personalities. You can put them in therapy. You can try to
teach them and mentor them and add wisdom. Kids are what they are. Remember, Draymond Green is the one
who cost them the 2016 finals.
Some have argued he cost them Kevin Durant with a sideline explosion.
No.
I'd move on from Draymond.
You would.
At this point, yeah.
He's a liability offensively.
Really good defensive player.
But you got Wiseman, Cominga.
You got some young guys.
You're not the only person.
Wiseman and Cominga are bouncy.
Really twitchy and bouncy.
Good point.
All right.
Hour three.
Just starting, man.
They're heard.
