Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. Starting point is 00:03:39 877 996-6-3-69. We be rocking out. Let's go. Now, I still have dumb Mets fans, friends that are like, don't worry, people come back to the Mets. To wrap up that last thought, sometimes ownership doesn't have a feel for what the fans are, wanting. It could be a change at the stadium with the team with something. And I think right now
Starting point is 00:04:06 for his great and almost perfect of an owner as Steve Cohen's been for the Mets, I think they're sort of dropping the ball on this Pete Alonzo thing. Now, hey, maybe they're right and Pete Alonzo from this point on, his production just keeps going down. Maybe he'll end up batting 205 hitting 28 home runs and it's just the trajectories down. But as of right now, they sign Juan Soto. They do it every, they do it all. Yeah, but what me, the Juan Soto exciting signing great is that he was going to come to a team that already had an established backbone. And Pete Alonzo was part of that. He's part of the foundation of what made the Mets great, in my opinion, last year.
Starting point is 00:04:44 He started the whole LFGM. Right. So you get rid of that guy. I'm not saying that Soto's not going to play well, but it's not going to be as a, that's a big bat to losing the lineup. That's all. He had 34 home runs on an off year last year. I'm just saying. that if there's a dude
Starting point is 00:05:01 that wants to win and you know the Dodgers look dominant on paper but the Mets are really you know they're in a different position than they used to be ownership wants to spend money and win and I look at it like if Pete went somewhere
Starting point is 00:05:18 because they said you know dude seven years 200 million you can't resist it what did you say about Pete Wentz if Pete Alonzo has an opportunity to go to like the angels or Blue Jays for a little more money, I just find it so odd that the Mets want to be like, oh, if that's the case, if that's the feeling,
Starting point is 00:05:35 just give them a little more, keep them here in Queens. Like, I just don't get it at all. It's a really interesting, it's almost like the Mets are anxious to get rid of Pete Alonzo. Yeah, it's really weird to see how this is playing out and can't wait to see what happens. Man, I wish the Yankees could have scooped them up, but they got Goldschmidt.
Starting point is 00:05:51 And it's not, like, we also have to keep this in mind, too. It's not that nobody wants Pete. It's that they've already made moves. There's not a lot of spaces for the guy. has always room for someone if you want. There's not or else the Yankees would scoop him. They got Goldschmidt. They don't need Pete Alonzo. Right. So there's a lot of teams. That's why maybe he could end up a Blue Jay because the Blue Jays have to hedge their bet on losing Vladdy.
Starting point is 00:06:12 You know, they might need them. Who knows? I'm curious to see what happens. Yeah. But based on our other conversation, too, Devin Haney called out Sylvester Sloan for not knowing anything about boxing. Yeah. off the air we were talking about how that's the premise
Starting point is 00:06:29 you know trusting an actor to be a professional that's the premise of Galaxy Quest Iowa Sam was saying yeah and it's also the premise of three amigos kind of remember because the little village thought they were the heroes and that's even that's kind of like a the Three Amigos is like a kind of a Truman show
Starting point is 00:06:46 kind of idea you know put on the movie but Galaxy Quest underrated movies from late 90s yeah but both both great you know both cult classes we talked to about how actors are kind of knowledgeable in the roles they're portraying. And Sylvester Sloan definitely one of those guys. So are you ready to put some money on it, Rich? Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Because I got five on it. We got five on it because we're all getting involved. Let's do it. Conference championship weekend, two big ones on Sunday. We're going to go around the room and each get to give our two cents on the against the spread lines here. Rich will give us those numbers in just a moment. Let's go to the studio line, see which listener is going to win a Swiggy and participate with us in the picks.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Gerald in West Kentucky. Gerald. What up, Gerald? What's happening? What's happened to, man? Gerald's game. Kavino, watch that movie and it can't stop raving about it on Netflix. Gerald's game on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:07:42 What a wild movie that is. Man, I've got a story about that. Do you? Is it quick? I'll try to. I was dating a girl when the book came out, and she bought it for me. And if you know anything about it, doesn't start real well for Gerald.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Yeah. Yes. I quit reading after chapter one, and we didn't date that much longer. Wow. Yeah, dude, I had to shut that movie off. It was so wild, but I ended up finishing it. I didn't like it that much, but it's a wild movie. It's a Stephen King movie on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:08:14 You know what? I'll tell you more about it during weekend hobnobbing later on the show. Now, there's two games. I don't want to throw you guys for any loop-de-loop, but since it's only two games, you're going to put 5-0 on it. Yeah, let's put 50. Let's do 5-0 on it. And I got 5-0 on it.
Starting point is 00:08:31 How about this too? Let's throw over-unders in there just for the hell of it. That makes it four bets. Okay, all right. The spread for each game and the over-under. Let's start with the early game. And I love that the early game is the, you know, the lesser of the two, in my opinion. Everyone's looking forward to Bill's Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:08:47 But commanders at Philadelphia, Eagles are favored by six. The over-under. 47 and a half. Eagles by six, 47 and a half. Kavino, age before beauty. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Speaking of Rocky and Apollo. I'll take the commanders. Plus six, huh? And I'm going with the over. Because, I mean, they were scoring points like it was nobody's business that last game. Anything could happen with Sequin on one side and Jane Daniels on the other. Yeah, I'll go with that for the fun of it.
Starting point is 00:09:26 28, 21, 2824, 2824 wins you the bet. 2821 does not win you the bet. But yeah, I just think, you know, we talk to Clay Matthews today about momentum. They both have momentum. So I think the over is a real good possibility. But when it comes to momentum, I'm not saying that Philly don't have it, but I think the commanders definitely have it. All right. Before I make my choice, Dan Byer, what's the weather looking like?
Starting point is 00:09:54 like in Philadelphia on Sunday. Do you have that off the top of your head or no? No. Okay. I'll look up. I see 38 degrees here. 38 degrees? And partly cloudy.
Starting point is 00:10:05 That's what I'm seeing, the little tiny info thing on the website. I did have the Kansas City one. I didn't look up to the Philadelphia one. Well, with that said, DB, you're up next if you want in. What do you think? Guys, you know, I'm a Kavino guy. So I like what Kavino's cooking there.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Commanders Plus 6. Nice. And I don't see any. reason why it wouldn't go over considering what we've seen of these teams as of late. I still am not convinced if Washington is actually good or not, but I think last week that they proved it, give me the commanders plus six in the over. Well, there you go. DB and Kavino on the same page.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Commanders and the over, and I don't want to, uh, right, already said that, but I, I'm, I'm going commanders and the over as well. Okay. I really am. Three for three. Anyone else? Yeah, I feel you on, your explanation was sort of what I was thinking. so I'm not going to just be a contrarian for the hell of it.
Starting point is 00:10:56 No, we could go fast here. It's exactly what I wrote down. Man, all like commanders in the over? Is that just a sentimental pick? Do we, I mean, the Eagles have not lost in a long time, but they did lose 36, 33. Let's see what spot in Iowa, Sam, and Gerald think. Yeah, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:11:12 I'm going to take the commanders because I think it's their time, but I'm going to take the under. Okay. I think they're going to cancel each other out, and I think it's going to be a little defensive battle in the first half, maybe a little nerves. Gerald, what do you think, buddy? Well, I hate to pile on, but I got to go commanders and over,
Starting point is 00:11:31 but I would be willing to go money line if I get to make some more money out of it. Commanders' money line, why not, right? So if you like the commanders, some people are saying, why not go Commander's Money Line then? All right, Gerald, Covino, myself and Bayer all the same. Danny the same. Sam, what do you got? I got the Eagles winning, commanders covering, and I'll take the over. I think so. Is that what everyone else picked, right?
Starting point is 00:11:52 We're all going commanders over except for spotty on the under. Yep. Wow, look at that. All right, let's move on to the Sunday game. Game two. Game two. AFC battle. Now we could ask about the weather on that one.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Yeah, Bill's Chiefs. What is the weather report, Dan Byr? Again, mid to low 30s, creeping into the upper 20s. No precipitation expected. So really just good playoff weather in January. Typical, chilly, crisp, cold football weather. Where are your long jumps? You know, Danny G, let's go with you to start up.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Do we like, it's Buffalo at Kansas City, as we all know. Chiefs by two. Chiefs by two. No, I was seeing that at one and a half earlier. And we got over under 48 and a half, pretty similar. Just one more point. All right. I'm going to go under on the points.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Okay. And because I like the Chief's defense. But I'm going to say the Bills and Mahomes run here. No three Pete for you, Mr. Yeah. Danny G. again, I'm sitting back. I'm just moderating this because
Starting point is 00:12:53 you just said what I'm thinking. I'm going bills. I like Bill's money line. I think Bill's just win this game. And the Chiefs have a great defense. And as you saw last week, it's not like Kansas City just slaying it offensively. They're finding ways to win. But Kansas City doesn't put up 30 or 40 anymore. It's not like Mahomes 50 touchdown season.
Starting point is 00:13:10 So I sort of like the bills in the under here. We got 5-0 on it. Now, since we got 5-0 on it, Yeah. I'll never bet against Mahomes. Yeah. So I'm going with Chiefs on this one. Look, they found a way to just beat everybody, right? Just be there. Why would they not just beat Buffalo in this situation? It's all about winning. It's not about, yeah, at home.
Starting point is 00:13:32 It's not about how bad they beat them. I think they're going to find a way to still beat them. They're still the Chiefs, but I'm going the under on this one. Okay. Dan Byer? I feel like I'm taking the easy way out by saying what I'm about to say. Uh-oh. We all make our preseason predictions, and I'm sure that we all have dogs in the fight. I have the bills still in the fight for my AFC representative. So I am going
Starting point is 00:13:54 with the bills to at least cover in this game. But the extreme love for Buffalo everywhere has gotten me concerned if I'm cheering for the bills in that game, considering they needed three turnovers and a drop by Mark Andrews to even get past the Ravens at home. So just worried about that. And I like the under like you guys as well. I think so far. I think so are we're all very much in agreement spotty let's go to you i'll be in disagreement again i like the i want i want you know what it's a want yeah i want the bills to win i do but i'm going to take the over i think it's going to be a chiefs in the over but bills do you want bills in the over yeah yeah you say you want it i want the bills the bills will win oh you're
Starting point is 00:14:41 willing them to win i'm willing them to win and i'm taking the over you're billing them to win Gerald, what do you think, my friend? I'm not betting against my homes. I'm sorry. And I think it's going to be a gun test, and so I'm taking the over. Nice. And I was Sam, are you left here or what?
Starting point is 00:15:00 I am. I picked the bills to be in the Super Bowl, so I'm going to stick with that. Bills win outright, and I'm taking it. So I'm with Spot here. I'm taking the over and the bills to win. There you go. All right.
Starting point is 00:15:10 There you have it. Kavino and Rich. I got five on it. What a nice Sunday. coming up. Yeah. Oh my God. I'm just thinking about Josh Allen's path too. What an awesome path if he were to continue on here. You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of when Tom Brady
Starting point is 00:15:25 won in Tampa. Along the way, he beat Drew Brees, Aaron Rogers, and Patrick Mahomes. So, you know, if Josh Allen were to beat Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and then go to the Super Bowl and beat Jalen Hertz and Sequin, that would be... That's insane. And Bo Nix. Don't forget, guys. No, really, man. That's really impressive.
Starting point is 00:15:47 It feels like a special season for Josh Allen. It does. And by the way, really quick, thank you, Gerald in West Kentucky. Thank you, buddy. Hang on the line there. We're going to ship off a Swiggy to you. I got something for Rich. Jason, who, whether man or Montana,
Starting point is 00:16:02 listening to the network, I was listening to the show, tweets in this, that if it's the, if it's the Bills Eagles, that means that the Bills will have faced the entire NFC East in a Super Bowl, becoming the first team
Starting point is 00:16:16 to actually face all teams in a division. Wow. Yes. I thought I know you and I love Super Bowl history. Dan, I was thinking that if the Chiefs somehow find a way and they beat the Eagles, the Chiefs will have had four Super Bowls beating the Niners twice and the Eagles twice.
Starting point is 00:16:36 So there's two fan bases that hate the Chiefs. Yeah. Eagles and Niners like, really? Come on. Four and O? So that is interesting. It's right. The bills will have faced the Giants, the Norwood year, against the redskins back in the day. And your 49ers would need one team to close out the AFC West.
Starting point is 00:16:57 That is true. And it would be Danny's Raiders. That is true. They beat the Chargers, 4926. The Broncos 5510. And they lost twice to the Chiefs. So we shall see. Thank you guys for all playing along.
Starting point is 00:17:10 I got five on it. You know, let us know at Covino and Rich. It simply becomes a four-layer parlay, a four-leg parlay. Two point spreads, two over-unders. The consensus in the studio, for the most part, is commanders with the points and the over, bills with the points and the under. But I think we're big dreaming. I really do.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I think because we have such a soft spot for Josh Allen, Kavino's thinking with his brain. Beating against Mahomes is ridiculous. My dad, who, you know, him and I like to gamble together. Yeah. And there seems to be a team. it seems to be a year where they play to their competition. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:46 I don't care. I'll be wrong. The bills are going to force the chiefs to step up and they're going to step up and pull it out. Yeah. My dad, like I said, who I gamble with quite a bit over the years, he would always say, if I bet on Tom Brady and lose, I won't be mad. But if I bet against Tom Brady, this is in the 2010s. My dad's like, if you bet against Tom Brady and you lose, you're just a fool. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:10 You know, like, you betting against Tom Brady off. It's like, that's Mahomes. Then, like, you almost deserve it. Mm-hmm. It's like when you bet on a real trash team to cover a lot of points, and then they lose by 20, you're like, well, what was I doing, betting on, you know, a 2 and 14 team or something? Can I, I was just looking at TMZ.
Starting point is 00:18:30 This is, it's very sad news, but it could. I saw this too. It could sway the game one way or the other. Emotion-wise. Emotion-wise. I saw this, sad, sad stuff. Patrick Mahomes's grandfather is in hospice, so that means he has probably days left to live. So that could be something that either gets behind him, do it for grandpa, or that could distract him.
Starting point is 00:18:48 For Johnny rule, man. We talked about that. Johnny. So do it for Johnny or you're right, the emotions could take over. And you know what? He just became a dad. There's a lot go. You know, Mahomes has a lot of probably emotional highs and lows in his personal life.
Starting point is 00:19:04 So we shall see. He's focused. Yeah, we'll see. Do you guys miss that the lions aren't still playing? Yes. Yeah, there's a part of me that thought like, Especially since I had them going the distance. I mean, yeah, listen, Washington's a cool story.
Starting point is 00:19:18 You know what is? I feel like I'll give you a boxing analogy. When Canelo Alvarez fought Floyd Mayweather, he fought him too young. And you knew that Mayweather was just going to win. That's how I feel about it. You know, the commanders, I feel like, you know, Jane and Daniels, what a story. But they're not there yet. So I can't really take them serious against one of these teams.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Like the Lions or the Eagles would have made a formidable NFC representative. I also have a theory that. Guys like you and Rich are a little bit younger than me and Kavino. But I think we're all in the ballpark and throw Danny spot in there as well. We remember when Washington was good. Yeah. We remember when they were winning Super Bowls and they were a competitor in the NFC and they were a contender. Doug Williams.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Mark Ripon. Even Joe Thysman. Yeah, just all like. So growing up, so Washington going back to a Super Bowl while it's been a long time for their fans isn't foreign to us. The Lions were foreign. because they've never been that good. They haven't been in contention. And so I think that's a part that's missing.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Like I get their fan base. They're sitting there saying 30 years, you know, between Super Bowls. Like there's a reason that there's a drought. But as a fan in the age that we are, we do remember a time when Washington was successful. And, you know, as a Niners fan to piggyback that or a Cowboys fan for that matter, some of these teams that have such a legacy in our childhood, if you were a kid of the 80s or 90s, you know, Niners, Cowboys, Redskins, Giants. there were a handful of teams that just dominated.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Yeah. And when you really think about it, the last time the Redskins now commanders, Niners and Cowboys all won early to mid-90s. Those teams have all been on a major drought, but in our mind, they're dynasties. The opposite for me and maybe not for Kavino because it's a fan of his team, but it involves his team was it was unique for me to see the Yankees in the World Series in the mid-90s.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Oh, yeah. You know, because all I knew of them, I wasn't. old enough to remember early 80s, but then there was no Yankees for, you know. Went from, what, 81 to 96? Yeah, yeah. So I had no idea. So that whole span fit perfectly into my life. So when they go to the World Series, it's like, holy smokes, the Yankees are in the World Series where people were probably like, ah, darned the Yankees are back.
Starting point is 00:21:31 You know, the perception of years, I know I sound like I'm, you guys, I have not had an edible, I promise. No, it's just where you fall into that time. No, I sound like it's like a high thought, but like time, bro, right, time. No, but when you think of the Yankees this past year making the World Series, in your mind it felt like, oh, the Yankees again, again was 09. No, again was 09. So that's the difference of when they played the Dodgers in the early 80s and the Braves in 96. Sure.
Starting point is 00:21:58 So the gap between 1980s, 81 Yankees Dodgers to the 96 Joe Torrey Jeter Yankees is the same difference of the 09. A-Rod Jeter till now. But they weren't even really making the they weren't making the playoffs in the 80s. Different format. Different format. Oh, they made it in 95 what Mattingly remember.
Starting point is 00:22:20 But yeah, man, I feel you. And really quick, Covino, back to Rich's point about Jaden Daniels being too young. We heard a lot about that last weekend. His rookie, his great rookie run's going to end here. But he plays with such calm composure. He's so poised. He does not look like a rookie out there.
Starting point is 00:22:38 And he's having fun out there. And he doesn't make barely any mistakes. Yeah, I can't wait to see it. Can't wait to see it. I get what Dan's saying, and I understand where he's coming from completely. But yeah, if he plays the way he played last week, it'll be NFL history. That'd be crazy. If it ends up, which likely the odds in Vegas would be this is the fourth
Starting point is 00:22:59 likeliest outcome, your two underdogs, Bill's commanders, you're looking at a rookie quarterback winning the Super Bowl or a dynasty that lost. four in a row in the Super Bowl and is never won. There's a happy outcome regardless. If it's Eagles, Bills, Eagles won with Nick Foles. Like, what, less than 10 years ago? As great as it would be to see a rookie win the Super Bowl, I would still be rooting for the bills there to win one.
Starting point is 00:23:27 I think after everything we've seen in the 90s. So, all right, your thoughts. And as we said on overpromise yesterday, did you guys see the story that Thurman Thomas, Jim Kelly, and all the old school bills said that they would jump through tables with the Bills Mafia if the bills win. One thing I didn't say on overpromise
Starting point is 00:23:45 and you could watch it on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page episode 77 our bonus pod. You can listen, you could watch. I really hope they wouldn't. They would break a hip and it would be horrible to watch. Thermat Thomas broke his hip. I would not want to see any of those dudes
Starting point is 00:24:01 jumping into folding tables if they won because he said they jump in four times if they won. Didn't he say that? I'd hate to see that. All right. Well, hey, we got more C&R. More Kavino and Rich. Next, we'll go over weekend hobnobbin and some more NFL fun right here on Fox Sports Radio. Starting point is 00:25:46 should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the
Starting point is 00:26:02 podcast, people could call in and say, hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Life becomes about wins and losses. We had Clay Matthews on our bonus bonus pod.
Starting point is 00:30:28 We interviewed him today. Clay Matthews, former Green Bay Packer. He was a ram for one year. And he's a stud, personable guy. Nice guy. We got along real well with him. We want you to watch the interview. It's going to be on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page in a half hour, never seen before.
Starting point is 00:30:47 So you got two over-promised episodes this week. Episode 77 yesterday, we talked about each Euro, the Hall of Fame. We talked about Super Bowl traditions, football traditions, and more. Today, Clay Matthews. Something else we talked to Clay about, which I think we sometimes neglect to remember when these young players are drafted. Danny J. You know where Clay Matthews is from? I'm just putting you on the spot. Do you know?
Starting point is 00:31:11 No, I don't know. He's from Agora Hills right over here. Oh, that's my neighborhood. He went to USC. So this is a Southern California kid. Yeah, I knew USC. I didn't know where he came from. How do you adjust to them being drafted by Green Bay?
Starting point is 00:31:24 So his whole experience back then, yeah. I'll give you a little hint. It's almost very, it's almost Vince Lombardi-like where he's like, where's green bay? It was almost the same story, yeah. Yeah. I also asked him about as a former football player, how he'd handle this whole Patrick Mahomes situation. Like, what do you want to pop them? And if you want to hear a little something, a little bit of what you're going to see later on on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page, take a listen. As a fan and former
Starting point is 00:31:52 player, when you're watching with your family, do you say to your bros, your buddy, man, I would totally have popped Mahomes if he tried that on me. Like, yeah, what's your mindset with that? It is difficult at times to watch the referees throw flags on these hits that are clear as day, not roughing the passer fouls. you know, if we're looking for a solution, I think there needs to be an emphasis on intent, you know, intent. And you look at, I want to say it was the Anderson hit on Mahomes. And, you know, they said he hit him up high, clearly hit him in the shoulder pad or chest. Is that a close one, perhaps? But then the next one where he darts back inside Mahomes, that is, and the two people go over top of him. Immediately they throw a flag. Well, you got a, the intent of Mahomes running the ball is to
Starting point is 00:32:36 draw a flag too. And you saw that on another one where he went on the sideline. He kind of slowed down. flopped out of bounds. It ruins the game a little bit. And if they are going to do that, they just need to be runners. They need to designate themselves as runner. They need to take those hits. And if they don't want those hits, they stay in the pocket, throw the ball away. Full interview, lots of fun. It'll be posted right after the show. Yeah, we talk about Aaron Rogers. We talk about life as a dad, life after football. We talk about Mark Andrews and how he had the worst game ever and how players feel when things like that happen. and should they be expected to talk to the press?
Starting point is 00:33:13 Because, as you know, Andrews didn't, but he addressed it on social media and he said he was just too gutted and he apologized and all that. I mean, let me ask you in a world we live in now where, you know, 10, 20, even obviously longer than that years ago, there was no social media. There was no real way for a player or celebrity or a notable person to put their thoughts out there. Right? I mean, if you could. Well, that's why they had. publicists. I mean, publicists still exist, but a lot of people,
Starting point is 00:33:44 a lot of players don't need them because they could express themselves on their own platforms, on their own social media. Yeah, no, I mean, actors, actresses, athletes, and listen, even politicians, Donald Trump, Barack Obama, there have been presidents that you'd social media to get a message out there. Yeah, legitimate statements
Starting point is 00:33:59 are made. Yeah, so with that said, let me ask you, do you think it's the responsibility of a player to comment on, I guess, she would say like a game gone wrong or a play gone wrong or like does mark Andrews owe it to the fans to the people like that was a very nice statement that he's gutted and you know that he's a great player the guy is one of the better tight ends in the league
Starting point is 00:34:22 but do you think he in today's social media world is a statement expected uh no not from your tight end who's done everything he could again hall of fame career you know how he felt in that moment you know he felt terrible and I think when you're not going to bring your best, like I subscribe to, like I won't even go out if I don't feel my best. Like if I feel like I'm not going to bring good company, I'm like, I'm going to stay home. That's just how I am.
Starting point is 00:34:51 I want to bring my best at all times. And he didn't want to present something that could be used against him. In the future, he may have said something that, you know, wouldn't have sounded right in the moment. He was really down on himself in the moment and probably wanted to just clear his thoughts. I think there are people that you do expect to hear from. And you could say, well, that's not fair to them, but they're also the quarterback and the coach for a reason.
Starting point is 00:35:14 You know, you're going to hear from Lamar Jackson. You're going to hear from Harbaugh. You're going to hear from the other leaders of the team. And I think falls on their responsibility a little more than the tight end. What do you think? Do you guys ever have that friend that just doesn't do anything or flakes out on stuff? Yeah. You have to cover up for him or her all the time.
Starting point is 00:35:35 It's not fair. I get it. Yeah. Mark Anders is the leader of the team. You shouldn't have to, he can answer the questions for himself. Shouldn't fall on everybody else. But they're going to have to answer those questions anyway. Even if Mark Andrews, let's say Andrews did answer those questions, right?
Starting point is 00:35:51 Lamar Jackson is still going to be asked about it. Lamar Jackson will, but I think that there's, you're looking for someone because Mark Andrews isn't speaking, so now you're asking a bunch of other players who don't have any say on the matter. If Mark Andrews was in his locker room taking questions after the game, That's where all the reporters are going to be because they're hearing from Mark Andrews in that scenario. You know what? I don't mind, though, in that scenario. I don't mind that he did the equivalent of let me write the email, save it in my drafts, and I'll send it tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Because like Kavino said, a lot of times Joe Rogan says, I don't want to talk to a fighter right after he got his bell wrong. He's not right. And I get it. They're pros. They get paid. They're, you know, celebrities to a lot of young boys and girls everywhere. they're heroes. But, you know, when you just make the, you know, arguably the worst gutting play of your life.
Starting point is 00:36:45 He says he wanted to collect his thoughts. He said the shock and disappointment were unlike anything he's ever felt before. Yeah, I'll give him that grace, man. I'll give him the grace to say I'll put out a statement for the fans, you know, later or tomorrow. I get it. We live in a now world. But again, I know he didn't get knocked out. But it is the equivalent of.
Starting point is 00:37:04 And it's also not the standard for this guy, right? Like this is an exception here. That's why I'm understanding of it. I don't think it should be the norm, DB, but it's a one-time thing from a guy who's always proven to be a good leader. I think you give people with a solid past the exception in the past every once in a while. I don't think it's like who he is. It's just a moment that he had.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Yeah. We all have a rough moment. Like I said, a lot of times people send that email. Like I've made the analogy that it's like, oh, if you sit on it for a couple hours, think about it. I don't think it's the end of the world. Yeah. You know, sort of scenario either.
Starting point is 00:37:39 But I just think he probably should have smoking. Well, find out what Clay Matthews thinks about it on overpromised. Again, right after this show on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page, we asked me about it. What a good promoter. Let's go to Dan Byer for an update. DB, what's going on, man? Pete Carroll's going to be the next head coach of the Raiders, getting a three-year deal with an option for a fourth. When he coaches a game this fall, he'll be 74 years old.
Starting point is 00:38:00 That's in mid-September. So maybe not the first game or two. But after that, he'd be the oldest person to ever. be a head coach in an NFL game once he coaches this fall for the Raiders. Jaguars officially announced the hiring of Liam Cohen as their head coach. While there's some assistant news, Hank Fraley was sought after by a variety of teams, but the Lions offensive line coach is going to stay in Detroit, gets a bit of a promotion as he's also been named their run game coordinator.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Texans and offensive coordinator Bobby Sloick parted ways after two seasons. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts says he'll probably wear a knee brace for Sunday's NFC championship game against the commanders. Patriot Safety, Gibral Pepper is acquitted by a jury in his trial for assault and battery involving an on-again, off-again female partner in Massachusetts. Ohio State running back Quinn Sean Judkins will enter the 2025 NFL draft. While On3.com reports that Ohio Statewide receiver Jeremiah Smith has an offer of $4.5 million to enter the transfer portal. And his teammate at Ohio Statewide receiver, Carnell Tate has an offer of $1 million to leave the Buckeyes. Las Vegas will host the college football
Starting point is 00:39:05 Playoff National Championship game for the 2026 season. That game will take place on Monday, January 25th of 27. Warriors Guard Steph Curry, the most popular jersey sold jersey for the first half of the NBA season according to NBA store.com
Starting point is 00:39:21 and seven and a half minutes to go in women's basketball, number two South Carolina, up on number 5 LSU, 52 to 41. This game was supposed to be played yesterday, but they postponed it until today. a few days ago because of the storm that hit the South. LSU came in
Starting point is 00:39:37 20 and 0 and 5 in the SEC while South Carolina's 18 and 1 and 6 in O' and conference play Gamecocks with the 11 point lead in the fourth quarter. Guys, back to you. Thanks, DB. And congrats again, Danny G.T. Raiders and Pete Carroll. Oh, yeah. I just saw two contradicting Pete Alonzo headline. So I'm sorry. I'm a Mets fan.
Starting point is 00:39:55 You know, blame me every time I bring up Pete. But I saw two contradicting articles. One said, Mets have told other plays to start essentially preparing to take reps at first base. Like Mark Vientos, who's a third baseman, they're saying, be prepared in spring training to take reps at first, which means...
Starting point is 00:40:14 Well, the Mets announced that they were moving on from the Pete Alonzo deal. Dan Byer would back me up in saying that the sporting news is a pretty reputable source, sporting news. I mean, that's not like, you know, Doug's blog. It's a, you know, a legit source. And they're saying... Doug who? Yeah, Doug.
Starting point is 00:40:32 What did Gottlieb do to you? I like Doug. Mets predicted, this is as of an hour ago, there's a new report saying Mets predicted to get back into the Pete Alonzo sweepstakes, which seems like it doesn't have many bidders, maybe offering six years 140, which would be a little more than 20 a year.
Starting point is 00:40:53 So I don't know, man. Your thoughts on polar bear Pete. We'll do that. And of course, weekend hobnobbing. What do you got to watch this weekend in the world of sports and entertainment? do it next. Now, definitely watching the playoffs. Playoffs. We're

What's a, what's a, yeah? Some Celtic ass. Like it's, you know, like the Cobian Jack days. That was definitely the Lakers best win of the season. No doubt.

Your winning bets for talking points if you get stuck socializing. You ever done anything dangerous? You ever dance with the devil and the pale moonlight? That is dangerous. Friday brings us.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Weekend Hobnob. Now, we men, we men have things we watch by ourselves sometimes. Manly men. Well, you know, sometimes you watch shows with your wifie. And then there's other shows. she's like, can we watch something else? One of those shows I recommend is called I Am a Killer. And yeah, there's a lot of women into True Prime and killing and things like that.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Some are not. But if you want to watch it, season six just came out. And there's one episode that people are really fired up about. I think it was episode three of season six. But the whole season so far pretty good. I am a killer. They're real stories about people in prison for life for murder. That's on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:49:32 It's a good show. Sad story, good show. You know what else is on Netflix? We mentioned it before. I know everyone's talking about the games this weekend, but what's the game? No, it's not the Chiefs and the Bills. It's Gerald's game.
Starting point is 00:49:45 I'm serious. Why watch two exciting matchups when you can watch an eight-year-old movie? This came out in 2017, but I saw an article that people can't finish this movie because it's so disturbing. And it's a Stephen King movie. So I watched it just, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:50:02 to kill time. I couldn't believe how disturbing it was. It had my attention for the entire movie. I thought the end was whack. But if it holds your attention in today's world of short attention span, you got to give a credit for that. It stars Carla Gugino. By the way, it looks fantastic in this movie.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Yeah, it does. I didn't realize how hot this woman was. And Bruce Greenwood, who's like a ripped 75-year-old guy. So, Gerald's game, a really decent thriller. And then I got a shamelessly promote, Rich, on what to watch. watch this weekend. Over Promise 77. debuted yesterday on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page. That's our bonus podcast. You could watch it. You could listen.
Starting point is 00:50:41 We talked about Ichero and we talked about Super Bowl and football traditions. And episode 78 premieres in eight minutes. Our interview with Clay Matthew, so definitely check that out. Overpromised our bonus pod. All right. A couple of things on Netflix. I've watched these. Danny G. You brought it up a couple weeks ago. If you've yet to watch the Jerry Springer documentary, two parts, an easy watch,
Starting point is 00:51:03 and it makes you realize what was behind that show when we were, you know, maybe in high school or college. Wags to riches, not my steeds, but I feel like there's a lot of people that love all those players,
Starting point is 00:51:14 wives and stuff. There's a new season that's on Netflix now. A show, a movie, I'm sorry, Jamie Fox and Cameron Diaz, the return of Cameron Diaz, spot.
Starting point is 00:51:23 You were going to mention this last one. I was. Back in action. Back in action. Looks great. Looks fun. There are a couple that their kids don't know
Starting point is 00:51:30 that they're formerly. spies. Like, you know, an equation you've seen before, but I think I'll check it out. Yeah, sort of. And a baseball movie, you've got to believe with Luke Wilson is on Netflix. And Danny, you were so right about the latest season of shrinking on Apple TV. And you hit me up. You're on Silo now? Yeah, so we finished shrinking and then went to Silo. Silo's good, huh? We're two episodes in. It's worth the weight for me. What else you're watching, Danny? I noticed there's something on priming. actually on Prime Video that we might want to
Starting point is 00:52:03 check out. It's called Blink Twice. Zoe Kravitz is her directorial debut. It's a film about a group of people invited to the private island of tech billionaire Slater King Channing Tatum. And it's got a great cast. This critic here says, don't watch the trailer if you do want to see this because they
Starting point is 00:52:23 spoil things with the trailer. Wasn't Zoe engaged to Channing Tatum at one point? So there's to work together? Yeah. Oh, speaking about shows that are on the comeback now. Spide also Severance. Season two. Season two is out.
