This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

We only bring on guests who are having a birthday.
That's a new rule in the show.
We only bring them on.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
excited for tonight. I took yesterday off to hang out with my son.
And today I wake up, and it is amazing that power sports has.
I'll be in a better mood knowing tonight.
Oh, I'm so excited for tonight.
You know, a big payoff.
I think my gut is Boston, protects their home court here, forces a game seven.
You don't get nearly as many game sevens as you think. You don't.
I'm low-key rooting for a game seven because they're just so amazing.
to watch. But I wouldn't be surprised if it goes either way. I really don't feel convicted about
anything because they're very evenly matched teams. We didn't have a great team this year in the
NBA. And it's been a defensive battle, been very physical. And I think Boston wins tonight,
but I also kind of like, hope they do because we get a game seven. Yeah, Robert Williams,
I believe still has the best plus minus in the series. I think he's up there for. He's been
unbelievable.
Yeah.
If we had a most outstanding player and an MVP.
It'd be different.
And Boston One.
Yeah.
Then you'd probably give it to right now, Jalen Brown, and then MVP Robert Williams.
Well, the most surprising player in this series has been Andrew Wiggins.
Yes.
And the MVP so far has been Steph Curry.
So right now, that's what's changing it is they have the MVP and probably the most
surprising performance.
So, and the third most surprising performance is Tatum, his,
numbers are okay, but it's never felt like. I mean, I thought his last game was pretty good,
and they got housed. He's been amazing in elimination games throughout this postseason ago.
He has. He has. So that's why I kind of feel like he's due tonight. Yeah. But it's so far,
if you had to hand out awards, they would all go Golden State's way. But generally,
when you have two evenly matched teams, and I still contend, I pick the Warriors in six. So if they
win tonight, that was my pick. But I still contend when Robert Williams is on the
floor, there are matchups that Boston has an advantage over. The difference in this series is we
still think Boston, Golden State's defense has been better than we thought it would be.
Boston's has still been good. The difference is the offense for the Warriors has been fine.
The offense for the Celtics has hit a wall. By the way, it did against Milwaukee in several games.
It did against Miami in games. So that's a reality. Boston isn't a great offensive team.
They were second to last in the NBA and clutch points. They were 14th and three-pointers. So
What you're seeing with Boston, if you're sitting out there thinking, oh, their offense has been terrible, no, this is what their offense is going to look like in a lot of games against the second best defense in the NBA, the Warriors.
So you're seeing a lot.
The difference in this series has really been Golden State's defense with Wiggins against the Celtics offense.
It hasn't been, the Celtics defense has made life difficult at times for Golden State, but it's persevered, really difficult when Robert Williams is on the floor.
So there was an NBA trade yesterday last night I want to talk about.
The Dallas Mavericks acquired Christian Wood from the Rockets.
They got four players.
They got a draft pick.
If you went to the last 100 trades in the NBA,
whoever gets the best player wins the draft probably 95% of the time, right?
You don't know what that 26 pick is even going to make the league.
Four players.
Will any play big minutes in a big game?
Yeah, who knows?
but Christian Woods is an 18 to 10 guy.
He's not a good defender, so he's not an ideal fit for Luca, but he's a fit.
And he's also got kind of a quirky personality last year.
You know, people feel like he should be better.
He refused to go into a game at one point.
He's a little quirky.
He's not ideal.
And again, he's not a very good defender, but he's an 18 and 10 guy.
And what are there?
Fifteen of those guys in the NBA.
So let's just look at it this way.
Does he make Dallas better?
Absolutely.
So basically, if you go to this.
NBA finals or any series, who are your top four players?
If your top four players are better than their top four, you have a chance to win the series.
So let's go to the top four players now for the Dallas Mavericks.
Lucas number one, Jalen Brunson, unrestricted free agent, Christian Wood are both really, you know, good, good players, neither
very good defensively.
Lucas terrible defensively and Spencer Dinwiddie.
That's pretty good.
So let's forget the NBA.
how would they compete against the top teams in the West?
So let's go to Golden State's top four players.
Golden State's better.
Also, Clay and Andrew Wiggins and Draymont are elite defenders.
So as you know, as you watch Golden State take on Dallas,
their elite defenders gave even Luca issues.
So they're not the Warriors' top four players.
And the Warriors' top four players have three great players under them,
emerging as stars, and Jordan Poole.
So let's go to the Sun's top four players.
Well, Dallas beat them, and DeAndre Aiton may go.
And they're pretty good defensively, but offensively, they don't hit threes.
So I would take Dallas with Christian Wood over Phoenix in a series.
Let's go to the Clippers.
All right, the Clippers four best players.
Kauai and Paul George are elite defenders.
I don't know what the defensive rating on Norman Powell is.
I have no idea.
It's a good player.
So I think the Clippers would be a better defensive team than Dallas.
Dallas would be a better offensive team on some nights, not all nights, because Reggie Jackson is a very mercurial player.
And there are nights in the NBA where he's fantastic.
So today, with that trade for Dallas, I still think Golden State's the best team in the West.
And I think a healthy L.A. Clippers team is a really good team.
It's hard to wrap your brain around the Clippers, how good they are, because they've been hurt for two years.
I still contend their front office, their executives, their roster is, I mean, they have Terrence Mann,
who some would argue is their fourth best player, not Reggie Jackson.
So I think it puts Dallas in a really elite spot.
Again, Christian Woods' defensive reputation is poor.
He can be a little squirly personality-wise, but Dallas is better today.
And in the NBA, better today feels good.
So Mark Cuban and the Mavericks today feel better to me.
he's been a head coach for four years.
He's been in the NBA for 18.
Coached Al Horford, in fact, who's in the finals, as you know.
And it is his 48th birthday today.
From now on, we will only bring on people who are celebrating a birthday.
It's David Fisdale joining us live in the herd.
This point forward, birthday or you're not on the show?
You look fantastic, by the way.
Let me ask you this.
So you know Al Horford well.
And when Brad went from coach, and he said, Brad said, listen, my voice, it's wearing people out.
I'm going to go upstairs.
And he made that Horford move.
And I'm sitting there thinking, well, I mean, what am I going to get from Al Horford?
He's a good player.
But, you know, in game one, he was crucial.
Tell me a little bit about the Celtics culture and why Horford fit into it so well.
Al Horford is the epitome of their culture.
That was a move when he had to go away.
that's not something that they really wanted to do, I don't think.
And, you know, he's a guy who basically created the foundation for what's happening right now.
And what you're seeing out of Al Horford does not surprise me.
This was Al Horford as a rookie coming in out of Florida.
He impacted our team in Atlanta immediately and helped us get to the playoffs when we hadn't been to the playoffs yet.
And the kind of guy that he is, the kind of leader that he is, Brad made a heck of a move,
getting him back in the building.
He is a younger version of Udinas Haslam for Miami culturally.
And getting tights back in the building and making that move for Derek White.
All subtle moves by Brad are really, really effective.
He saw that Schrooter wasn't fitting in necessarily and loosened it up for Marcus Smart to become more of a handler.
And that was another subtle move that people don't talk a lot about.
But all of those moves added up to be a championship contending table.
You know, I think this is harder than fans often would acknowledge that Andrew Wiggins was a number one pick.
He was a star in a team.
And then he was never a bust.
He's been a very good player.
I think career averages around 20 a game.
And then he goes to the Warriors.
And it's a very intense culture.
Steve Kirk coaches you hard.
You got to play defense in that culture.
And everybody just thinks, oh, everybody will work.
Well, it's not that easy.
They demand a lot there.
It's a lot of smart dudes and a lot of hard practices.
And it makes me happy to watch Wiggins.
It's like, I love this.
Are you a little surprised by how valuable in this series he's become?
Nope, not even a little bit.
I really thought back when they first got him there,
that it was an incredibly subtle move,
got a lot of people shot down because a lot of people were down on Wiggins.
But I actually thought it was a great move because Steph and those guys were banged up.
He got a chance to get really familiar with the system.
He got familiar with the culture being coached by Steve on the little things,
the details about winning and being a champion.
And you cannot deny his, he's an incredibly talented player from the standpoint of skill and athleticism.
He just brings another dimension to their team that they didn't have.
And so when you're running around trying to take away all of these shooters,
here you got this guy who can make plays, who can post up, who can attack, who can shoot,
and who's showing that he's a really good defensive player.
When you've coached against Steve Kerr, I mean, you've gone up against the legends.
The Popovich's and Spolstra now is going to be a Hall of Fame coach, and now Steve Kerr.
Every coach has idiosyncratic habits.
Every coach has strengths, weaknesses.
When you coach against Kerr, was there anything you would tell your staff?
All right, this is what Steve's going to do.
This is what Steve likes to do.
What are his little habits that make him special?
You know, it's not as much.
I would say habits.
I would just say that Steve is always in tune with the game.
He doesn't miss very many moments.
And so when it's time to actually make a tweak, an adjustment,
to make the move that you need to make,
to make the game go in their favor.
He's not afraid to do it.
And I think a lot of it, he's just a very thoughtful guy.
He thinks about these things away from the game of what can happen.
He anticipates.
He starts to think of worst-case scenarios.
And so, you know, even in the case of sitting Draymond Green for a little bit,
you know, a lot of coaches might not have made that move, but he did it.
And it took a lot of courage to do it and it ended up paying off in his favor.
You know, so things like that, I just think he's just very in tune with the game.
He has an incredible feel for the game and basketball acumen.
And it doesn't hurt that he's got a couple of new head coaches sitting over there next to him,
feeding them all kind of good stuff as well.
That doesn't hurt.
Yeah, that doesn't hurt at all.
So I thought Golden State, I picked Golden State to win in six,
and one of my concerns was I thought the Celtics had more two-way guys, more defensive.
offensive players all in their prime.
I'm a little surprised Golden
States here, I thought Phoenix would be,
because I thought Phoenix has most of their
players in their prime, and I thought Golden
State was a little too young in spots
and a little too old in others.
Are you surprised? There's a gap
there. Moody's not quite ready.
Camingo Wiseman, and then clays
off an injury, Draymond's older.
Usually championship teams,
you've got three or four of your dogs
are all right in their prime. Are you
a little surprised the Warriors are even
here? Not at all. No. They're the greatest shooting team we've seen, at least as long as I've been
watching the game. You know, you're talking about, we already knew about Steph and Clay, but Pool is an elite
shooter. This guy is as good as it gets, and he's coming off the bench for them. They have an elite
playmaking forward switchable guy, Draymond Green. And when you talk about, again, adding a guy like
Wiggins and they're not even playing Kaminga or JTA over there.
They still got other forwards and versatile players that they have over there.
I just really thought they had a complete roster and I thought their front office did an
incredible job of really not panicking when guys were hurt and just filling in the blanks
while those guys were healing up and now you see a roster of versatility, skills, shooting,
toughness and experience.
And, you know, when you put champion guys in these situations,
man, it usually calls out.
You know, I always called Draymond the bouncer at the cool nightclub.
He was the tough guy.
Every hockey squad.
Every hockey team needs a tough guy who has skill, but just a little enforcer there to make
sure everybody, you know, treat your teammates with respect.
Draymond's a very passionate player.
I know him fairly well.
And sometimes he can get a little off the rails.
How do you coach a guy like that whose passion is really what David defines him?
You take any of that way.
It's not the same guy.
Is it harder to coach guys like that?
No, I think it's just about building trust early and really, really establishing a relationship where he allows you to bring him back and reel him back in.
You know, I think that's the biggest thing.
And watching great coaches that I've worked with and being in that seat myself and having to coach passionate players, I feel like it's always, you can always get them back.
if you really take the time to build the trust with them and really establish a relationship
where they know that if you tell them, hey, chill, reel it in, back down, that they will
understand that they're going too far and that they need to take a step back.
And even sometimes it doesn't work, but ultimately most of the time they will, you know,
connect with you and stay coach you, right?
Let me just let me reel this in.
But usually, for the most part, you want them being who they are doing what they do,
diving on the floor, making contact with people, instigating some stuff, getting in their heads.
You know, I think that's a part of the game that he's an expert at, and he drives people crazy,
so you don't want to take that away.
You assistant coach the Lakers this past year, Darvindham's building a new staff, you're not retained there.
But I've said this.
I said this when the season started.
I said, listen, they don't have a player, maybe Malik Monk.
I said they just don't have enough players in their physical prime.
So what will happen, they'll get injured a little more.
and they'll be out a little longer.
So you're going to have a lot of different lineups with the Lakers.
They're just, you do have to have,
because injuries happen to even good young players like a Robert Williams.
You do have injuries.
It's the reality of the sport.
And I just felt the Lakers are too old.
There's not enough guys in their prime.
And it kind of happened.
You had a million different lineups.
So there is no, you know, it's hard to reboot stuff in this league.
Right.
L.A. does have the advantage.
The Lakers, as you know, David.
Players want to play here.
They do want to play here.
So in my theory, my theory has kind of been you start with LeBron and then everybody else, I'd take phone calls.
I would just take phone calls.
Is that approach, my approach, realistic to how to rebuild it?
Well, I will always start with LeBron.
That's the number one place.
You know, you always, I think as a front office person, you always have to be open to phone calls regardless,
especially after coming off a tough year like they did.
But it doesn't mean that everybody has to go or anything like that.
But the centerpiece of the whole thing for me would be LeBron.
I mean, what he did this year, 37 years old,
if he would have played two more games,
he would have led the league in scoring.
You know, I went back through some of his offensive numbers.
This guy was not only was he one of the most effective ball handling players in the league,
but he was one of the best as setting and rolling on pick and rolls this year.
year. So the way that he's evolved himself and turned himself into this, he's really the today's
NBA player and the positionless systems. He's again established himself at the top of that.
I would definitely start there, but you know, you can't deny the talent of the other guys.
Obviously, the front office is going to have to make some tough choices with some guys.
But I think the biggest thing that they're really going to have to focus on is get, like you said,
getting some more youth in there, but guys that can really guard multiple people.
positions and that can also make
shots when that ball is sprayed out
because we generated
the second most quality threes this year
and that's not to knock the guys that were
shooting it but we just didn't knock down enough of them
and that's Russell touching the paint
that's bronze touching the paint
and then you look at the whole picture those guys never
played enough games together they never got on the floor
enough together it was just too many injuries
at too many crazy times
or it was COVID so
you know they got a lot of stuff they got to work
out but uh you know to be able
to look at it and say I got AD Russell Westbrook and LeBron James to start with
and a few other good young players and Taylor Word Tucker, Austin Reeves, and some other guys.
You know, that's a good place to start.
And I think with getting tough Darwin and ham in there, they're going to have a chance to
really get themselves going again.
By the way, who do you like tonight?
Let's circle back to the finals.
I kind of think Boston defends their court.
I think it's going to be tight.
But I actually think Jalen Brown's going to rebound with a big night.
I think Tatum's going to play well.
my gut tells me they have too much pride.
It's going to be a raucous environment.
I kind of like Boston.
You're shaking your head.
Why?
I'm shaking my head because it's just too hard.
You put me in a very difficult position because you're talking about a Boston team
who has shown when their back is against the wall, they dig in and get it done.
But you're also talking about getting it done against a team who is probably the most likely team that can go into Boston and close it out.
So it's just, I've been going back and before all my friends, all my buddies, we've been talking shopping.
It's just like, oh, man, one minute I'm Boston, one minute I'm Golden State.
But I'm going to go against you, and I'm going to go with the experience.
And then we can talk later about it when you take me to dinner over this.
There you go.
You have a great reputation from the people in the league I know.
They adore you and speak so highly of you.
Happy 48th.
You look fantastic.
By the way, I got a lot of gray hair.
I think that gray in the beard is.
really coming into its own.
Nice.
I'll tell you what.
Thanks, Collie.
When you sit that head coach seat,
the beer seems to change colors really fast.
Great talking to you, coach.
All right, Colin, take care.
All right, David Fisdale,
a really, really respected guy in the NBA.
He's going to go with experience.
You and I like Boston.
You know, but are you and I picking Boston
because it's better for our business?
Half of me, yes.
I can admit.
I really want to see a game seven.
Yeah.
But no, I mean, FIS is right.
Like, they've shown in elimination games that they're going to play their best.
I think a lot of what's happened with Boston over the last couple games has been mistakes.
Golden State is very patriot-like, very spur-like, and they're not going to beat themselves.
No.
So if you're going to make a bunch of mistakes, they're going to take advantage of it.
You can't give them extra possessions.
Can't turn the ball over the way that they have.
So they just have to play really disciplined basketball tonight, Boston does.
And I think you could go either way.
I don't feel convicted that Boston's going to win tonight.
Yeah.
There's so many different ways to think about it.
I was talking, I may have said this on the show, I forget.
But I said Boston's had two amazing quarters, the fourth quarter in game one.
Yes.
And then I think it was the third quarter in game three.
No, they had a good third quarter in this last game also.
Was it?
But Golden State was just, it was the third quarter.
So Golden State was able to hold them off.
I feel like the Warriors, I get a more consistent.
fluid offense.
Boston, it feels like it's ice cold or unbelievable.
And so that's what worries me is that I just think Boston,
they have these long stretches where I find their offense doesn't move,
get very reliant, take bad shots.
But twice in this series, they've hit eight straight threes,
and in one of them they blew the Warriors out.
In the other one, they had overcome a gap.
Yeah.
And so I just, I don't love the idea that Boston has really surged based on these seven-minute spurts where they're unbelievable.
I think offensively against this Warriors team, now that Peyton's healthy, I just think Draymond elite defender, Wiggins elite defender, Clay still good, Peyton elite defender.
Well, that's also a big part of what's affected Jason Tatum.
Like, this is a great defensive team.
Everyone has these ideas, these like labels for every team, for what they are.
and it's not exactly accurate to what they are this year.
Yeah.
Like they are a great defensive team, Golden State is, and they are consistent offensively.
Yeah.
Boston is a great defensive team, but they aren't as consistent offensively.
They have the potential.
They have moments.
They have moments, but they aren't at the consistent level that Golden State is.
No.
I mean, they were a, Boston was a bad clutch team.
If you take every team in the league, they were near the bottom in clutch points.
So this is an issue and exacerbated because the Warriors are such a good defensive team.
So that's why Boston's offense feels like it comes in these brief spurts when they can't miss a three.
But on a day-to-day game-to-game level, it gets clunky fast.
But that's why tonight is so fun.
Because I really don't know which way it's going to go.
Yeah.

podcast. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look
Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what
went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark
Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not
just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get

As I've told you before, I tried to invest in the MLS twice. I couldn't afford it.
But one of the reasons I think it's so smart is because of the deal, the MLS brokered.
And I know a lot of you aren't, you know, in tune to the MLS. But I like soccer. I grew, my mom was British.
As a kid, I went over there during a World Cup and I can remember it. And I grew up in the Pacific Northwest.
Portland, Seattle are very in tune to soccer, Clive Charles, the late great Portland pilots coach.
So I grew up with a Seattle Sounders and, you know, I just sort of Portland timbers, that kind of stuff.
So I think it's a brilliant move because Apple has a lot of young employees.
And the MLS fan base is a lot of young kids.
And they all use Apple products.
So you've already got some loyalty from Apple and Apple Plus TV.
And now you're moving those young consumers into, I told somebody a private,
a few years ago, if I was Apple, I would have bought the PAC 12 all their gaming or TV rights
because a lot of those employees are Stanford kids and cow kids.
And, you know, they're in the building.
So I thought it was a great move.
And I also think this is kind of the future of what's happening in sports.
And you're seeing this in the PGA, where the PGA doesn't own the Masters of the U.S.
Open and the Ryder Cup or the British Open, those golfers are independent contractors.
And if Apple would have decided we just want to do what the Saudis are doing and we're going to buy golf,
All these players would have gone to Apple almost instantly.
Who cares if you'll lose out on a second, third tier?
Everything you care about in golf, according to TV ratings,
everything you care about is not really associated with the PGA.
You don't see people wearing PGA hats around.
You see them wearing Master's hats all over the south.
You go to an airport in the south.
You'll see 10 green hats, 5,000 the week of the Masters.
You see people with Tiger Woods gear or Phil gear or Brooks Keppka gear.
You don't see anybody with a PGA hat.
That's not the reality of this.
And so the PGA is much like boxing.
It's wildly divided.
And somebody came into boxing called the UFC and said, no, we're going to be more interesting.
That's not a well-run business.
I don't think the PGA is that well-run.
And I think they were incredibly vulnerable.
And so I think the future of sports outside of the NFL, NBA, and baseball is going to be broadcast companies, content companies, buying sports.
buying, you know, UFC or buying the PGA.
College football is a little bit of a mess.
I love it, but it's a mess.
And the NCAA is vulnerable.
If I ran a broadcast company, I would go by one in each time zone.
I'd go by Penn State, who has already been independent.
Ohio State, Michigan would not leave the big tent.
I would go buy Penn State, by Notre Dame, by Texas, by USC, and I'd run their four games every week.
I'd give each a couple of buys.
And at the NCAA squawked and said, you can't play, you can't play in blankety-blank
playoff.
I'd say, yeah, it's kind of embarrassing.
Two of our teams are undefeated and they're not in.
It would delegitimize the playoff.
Just like if seven or eight golfers go over to the Saudi oil group, it's going to de-legitimize
the PGA.
It won't hurt the Masters.
It won't hurt the U.S. Open.
It won't hurt the British Open.
It won't hurt the Riter Cup.
It'll hurt the PGA.
Have you ever?
rooted for the PGA? Did you ever root for boxing? No, you rooted for boxers. You root for
golfers. I root for Tiger and Brooks and Rory. I don't root for the PGA. So I think it's the world
we're moving into. And I think it's an exciting time. And I think the NFL, baseball, and
basketball, they're all protected. But there's, if you are vulnerable at all and you're not
taking care of your top performers, get ready. Because Apple,
and Amazon's and global money is coming to help you out.
Joy with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, Andrew Wiggins has had an unbelievable finals,
and Steph Curry said he is proving to be the player they knew he could be.
There's a reason we wanted him here.
There's a reason that trade made sense for us.
He's shining on the brightest of stages in the playoffs,
and you can tell how much he's.
He's enjoying it.
And it's just amazing to see things working out in his favor in terms of kind of dispelling
all the narratives around him and who he is as a basketball player, right front of us.
Yep.
He's averaging 38.2 minutes per game, 18.4 points per game on 44.7 field goal percentage.
How many rebounds?
9.4 rebounds.
Yeah, because you and I both said after game one, golden state,
They look small.
They do look small, but they're still rebounding the ball.
And he's shooting 29% from three.
He's been really impressive.
He leads the finals with 101 shots contested, 26 more than the next player.
He leads both teams and rebounds with Goldsape being a significantly smaller team.
Oh, he leads both teams in rebounds.
He leads both teams and rebounds.
He's second in blocks and is holding Tatum to 37.5% shooting.
What if he has a great night tonight and Steph's a lot?
okay. He will get MVP consideration and should. He will. I do think I talked to Ryan Hollins about
this yesterday about whether he would give the MVP to Andrew Wiggins. And I do think the conversation
is fair. I just think there's been so many games throughout this finals where it's been like,
is anyone else going to make any shot except for Steph Curry? So I do think Steph has such a
considerable lead in that space that he will end up winning it. But Andrew Wiggins has been incredible.
If you would have asked Andrew Wiggins, this is why I try to tell young people all the time, your time will come.
If you work hard, you'll find the right job, you'll find the right space.
It's not going to be your first job at a college.
That's not the way it works.
No.
And so if you'd have told Andrew Wiggins, yeah, you're going to get drafted by a team.
It's going to be kind of a disaster.
But your second team, you're going to fall into the perfect spot.
I do think he's a smart enough kid that he would have said, yeah, I'll take that.
And I think that's what's happened.
and this happens a lot in the NBA,
the better you are in college,
you go to the worst more defunctional team.
Yes.
And then,
if you're still good,
Miami comes and says,
LeBron,
we've got all the things you want.
Now, LeBron felt like,
because of the way it ended it,
I got to go back.
But it's amazing.
LeBron, Michael,
had to go through three coaches,
two or three coaches,
until he found Phil Jackson.
And he had to run through a roster
until he found Scotty Pippen.
So even for the great,
your first job, your first coach, your first boss.
It might not go that way for you.
But also, I think that, you know, there is a responsibility on the organizations to do things the right way
and to not try and force players into roles that they're not suited for or put certain expectations on them
because of where they're selected.
And I think that's kind of what happened with Andrew Wiggins.
Why should he have to be the leader of a team because you drafted him where you drafted him?
if you know that his intangibles are not that that's going to work for him.
Right.
So you as an organization should know, yes, this kid is this talented and we want to take him here,
but we can't bring him in and expect him to lead the team if that's not what he does.
And I think organizations try to force fits that don't work as well,
and this is clearly the perfect fit for him.
The Warriors are one win away from their fourth title in eight seasons.
And they are currently four-point underdogs, according to FoxxBet, the Warriors are.
I think Vegas and the fan duels of the world do believe it's Boston's night.
I do, but not with any conviction at all.
I have no conviction.
I think Jalen Brown's going to have a good night.
I think Jalen Brown's going to have a good night.
I think Jalen will have a good night.
He's been very consistent throughout the series.
I feel like slash I'm kind of hoping for this is Jason Tatum's big night.
He's been great in the elimination games throughout this postseason.
So we'll, but we'll see.
It's everyone's guess at this point.
So WMBA legend Sue Bird will retire at the end of the 2022 season.
She made the announcement today on her Twitter.
Everyone was kind of wondering if this was going to be here last year.
She said, I've decided this will be my final year.
I have loved every single minute and still do.
So I'm going to play my last year just like this little girl played her first.
She put a little picture, a cute little picture of hers.
How many years she been in the league?
The final year Seattle Storm.
She's played 21 years with the Seattle Storm.
Wow. 21 years.
That is very Kareem-like.
That is very, wow, and been really good the entire time.
She's been unbelievable.
She previously contemplated retirement since she signed a one-year deal with the storm,
but this is her official announcement.
She won four championships with the Seattle Storm.
She's the WMBA all-time assist leader, 12-time WMBA All-Star,
which is the number one pick in 2022 from Yukon, two-time NCAA champion,
five-time Olympic gold medalists with USA basketball,
five-time EuroLeague champion, and is averaging 27 women.
per game and 7.8 points this season. She's up there on the Mount Rushmore,
Diana Tarasi, Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Swoves. Always gets a good shot. She's unbelievable.
A little KD to her game in terms of put it on the floor, find her shot, always get a good look.
And a winner at everywhere she goes. Yeah. She's won on every single level. So
congrats on an incredible career. We will miss you, Sue, and enjoy watching your final year in the
WMBA. So Minkett Fitzpatrick and this.
Steelers have agreed to a four-year extension.
According to Maltau reports, it's $18.4 million per season with $36 million guaranteed
at signing.
That's the highest annual average salary and most money guaranteed at signing for any safety
in the league.
He was a first round pick in 2018 by the Dolphins who traded him to the Steelers in
2019, which is a move he requested because he felt like Miami was playing him out of
position, made the Pro Bowl and first team all pro in his first two seasons with the
Steelers, 84 solo
tackles, 124 combined tackles.
He's an unbelievable player.
He's somebody you have to pay.
My question with the Steelers is kind of similar to your question
with the Steelers, which is, this is not on Minka.
It's what are you doing on the offensive side of things?
They are the least invested NFL team this morning
offensively in terms of money, least invested.
Now, you've got to pay guys when they're up.
They have a young O line, maybe.
But I mean, I'm sorry.
but they're also very cheap at quarterback too.
So you have a rookie quarterback obviously
that you drafted this year and you're paying Mitchell Trubisky nothing.
So that is why they have some extra money.
So you can, you know, when you look at where the money is being spent,
normally you would be spending a haul on a franchise quarterback,
which they don't know if they have yet.
So that's why I also don't have a problem with them locking up their key defensive players.
And in this division, you do have to have a strong defense.
It's been their calling card for years.
I am with you.
The standard in Pittsburgh can't be,
we have a winning season every year.
We got to stick up from there.
There is going to be a moment where,
especially now that you have Joe Burrow
and Lamar Jackson,
who's going to get locked up very soon,
in the division for the next 10 years,
there's going to be some urgency
that's coming up on the offensive side of the ball.
But congrats to me, I mean, he definitely earned it.
You got to pay guys when they're up.
I don't have a problem with how much it is,
mostly because they're not running a check
for a quarterback right now.
Yeah.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day
but just so y'all know
I mean at this point
Mark this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack
so I'm starting to see
there's a through line
We also have AIDS on the table right now

Thank you finishing that sentence

Mike McCarthy has always felt like he's trying a little too hard.
Remember when he was unemployed?
He became Mr. Hyper Analytics guy down in his basement.
Oh, boy.
Then when he interviewed for the Cowboys job and got it, he said, I watched every single snap of the Cowboy games.
He later acknowledged he didn't.
And he got the job one time and he was on hard knocks.
And he had that really kind of cheesy thing, that long speech where he talked about high school, Harry.
It was always kind of trying a little too hard.
And I don't think you can ever fool players.
now he decided it was time for a team bonding event
which is normal it's not a negative
I just think you know young players
you know veteran guys that were resting the different combinations
I mean this is six seven and eight installs always
it's always a tough stretch for your rookies
I don't know last year he smashed a watermelon
before the Vikings game to make a point they did win
or was the year before
It's not great.
He also has mojo moments in practice.
He calls them spontaneity mojo moments where he cranks up sound from the Sunday night football theme and wants you to bring your mojo in the moment.
I don't know.
Am I being cynical?
It just feels a little like guy trying too hard.
Ask yourself this.
If you're a cowboy fan and disagree with me.
If they play the Rams tomorrow, of all those boxes you check,
Do you think you'd win the coaching matchup?
No.
You would think you have no shot at that.
You'd be praying he didn't screw it up.
It's like I've always said about Westbrook.
Westbrook's not going to make your team better.
At this point, you're crossing your fingers.
You don't screw it up with ball movement.
So the good news for Cowboy fans, I mean, we know Mike's not great with clock management.
There's no proof he has great game plans, although I can't criticize him because it's not like the Cowboys
perennially start slow with him.
They don't. Clock management concerns me.
Late game execution really concerns me.
The good news if you're a cowboy fan,
you'll have an answer by about November 1st.
The Cowboys schedule, they start with Brady and Joe Burrow.
Good news, they get them at home.
But they also played Kyler, San Francisco at home and Jimmy Garoppolo,
and they didn't do very well in that game.
and then they have to go to the Rams, two playoff Philadelphia,
to Green Bay, and two Minnesota.
So about Thanksgiving, you will have an answer for the Cowboys.
I do think their schedule lightens up at the end considerably.
But by that time, my gut feeling is, my instincts are they will have lost momentum.
And Jerry has always been about a year more patient.
I mean, he was actually very patient with Jason Garrett.
People wanted Jason Garrett out two years earlier.
He was patient with Barry Switzer, more patient than many would have been with Chan Galey.
So I think you'll know my guess is they lose to both Brady and Burrow.
They lose to the Rams and at Philadelphia.
And they lose at Green Bay at Minnesota.
They're 0 and 6 in those.
I think it's going to be a rough year.
I think they're going to be, I think if they can go, you know, five and five through their first 10, you'd almost feel like it's a win.
There's a lot of good coaches they face early.
A lot of good quarterbacks.
Save big in your water bills and get a 15-year limited warranty with Navian.

Tankless made simple.com.
So they went to Top Golf.
There's a bonding.
It's important to bond.
Apparently practices have not been great.
Although, and I've moved off this, I don't take really anything.
from any of this stuff.
Although I do think if you've got
young skill players,
quarterbacks receivers,
I'd love to see everybody show up to these things.
I'm not going to take too much
from the Mike McCarthy Cowboys
mandatory camps.
All right, hour three around the corner.
